Essay Methodology
Writing an essay on the topic of "Essay Methodology" presents a unique challenge, as it requires
a thoughtful exploration of the methods and approaches one employs when crafting an essay.
The difficulty lies in dissecting the intricate process of essay writing itself, examining the various
methodologies that can be applied to ensure coherence, clarity, and effectiveness.
One must delve into the initial stages of brainstorming and outlining, addressing how these
foundational steps contribute to the overall structure and organization of the essay. Discussing
the research process becomes essential, shedding light on the diverse methodologies for gathering
information, conducting literature reviews, and selecting appropriate sources.
Furthermore, tackling the actual writing process involves exploring different styles, tones, and
techniques that can be employed to engage the reader and convey the intended message
effectively. This may involve discussing the use of persuasive language, storytelling, or
incorporating evidence to support arguments.
Editing and revising also constitute crucial aspects of the essay methodology, demanding an
understanding of how to refine and polish the content for optimal impact. Addressing the
importance of feedback and peer review adds another layer of complexity to the essay
methodology, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the writing process.
In conclusion, navigating the intricacies of essay methodology involves a comprehensive
examination of the various elements that contribute to successful essay writing. It requires a keen
understanding of the entire process – from inception to completion – and the ability to
articulate the methodologies employed at each stage.

Aladdin The Musical Reflection
The theater was largely attended by children and toddlers. To my surprise, I noticed
that there were a decent number of adults attending the show too. I was not sure if
they were dragged into the show by their own children or that they came to watch the
performance willingly. Unfortunately, I was dragged into the theater to watch Aladdin
the Musical with my younger siblings during a family outing in Disneyland. I tried
my best to spot other adolescents in the theater. However, it felt like I was the only
one. Embarrassed, I sat in deeper into my seat, hoping that no adults could find and
criticize me. Aladdin the Musical uses the same plot from the movie, Aladdin as a
foundation for their own plot. The plot is about how a thief was destined to be the
prince of Agrabah with the help of a powerful genie and how an evil vizier named
Jafar desired to take over the kingdom of Agrabah by abusing the genie s powers. As
the emcee made his announcements, I assumed that I would fall asleep on the
cushioned seat from all the boredom I would experience from a children s fairytale.
Surprisingly, I was wide awake throughout the entire show. In fact, I enjoyed the
performance very much.
When the mammoth purple curtains were raised, my jaw dropped as I witnessed the
props for the first scene. In the first scene, there was a ... Show more content on

The flow of the scenes made the story understandable. However, the performance
did not exactly follow the same storyline as the movie. For example, Aladdin was
actually sent to prison by Jafar and he escaped it by using one of the genie s three
wishes but the performance altered their story so they need not to reenact that scene.
I also believed that the performance could have had more backstory. For example, the
performance did not inform the audience that Princess Jasmine was fussy about
choosing her suitors and that Jafar was trying to court her so that he can take over

Antitrust Laws Of The Sherman Act And The Ftc Act
Antitrust are a series of laws designed to protect competition in the marketplace.
Antitrust laws prevent restraints of trade or commerce. Black s Law Dictionary
defines antitrust laws as [t]he body of law designed to protect trade and commerce
from restraints, monopolies, price fixing, and price discrimination. The main law
regulating antitrust is the Sherman Antitrust Act, which makes it illegal for
individuals or groups to restrain trade or commerce. Besides the Sherman Act, the
other law that factors into Dental Examiners is the Federal Trade CommissionAct,
which prohibits any [u]nfair methods of competition. This law serves as the basis for
the majority of Federal Trade Commission lawsuits such as Dental Examiners. The...

While the Court found that the standards were an antitrust activity, it was not
unreasonable because it was for the purpose of protecting athletes, not controlling the
market. In summation, antitrust laws prevent only unreasonable restraints of trade,
which is based upon the circumstances of the restriction.
Goals of Antitrust Law
Antitrust laws are meant to protect competition in markets. They try to ensure that all
individuals have an equally opportunity in honest competition. Early in the nation s
history, there was widespread fear of the dangers of monopolies and other restrictions
on competition. In 1890, Congress passed the Sherman Antitrust Act to prevent limits
on competition caused by private parties. Thus the main goal of antitrust law is to
preserve economic freedom and a free enterprise system. Specifically, it attempts to
preserve the freedom to compete for businesses. In a practical sense, antitrust laws are
seeking to prevent burdens on competition in the marketplace.
Damages in Antitrust Lawsuits Antitrust plaintiffs have many different remedies
available to them under Federal antitrust law. Plaintiffs can receive damages for any
loss they sustained from the antitrust activity. For example, if an antitrust activity
prevented a salesperson from conducting their normal profession then that person
would likely be able to recover damages for that loss. In antitrust law, plaintiffs
receive treble damages,
Baby Monkey Psychology
A psychologist in the 1950 s by the name of Harry Harlow did a study on the parent
infant bond using a baby monkey and two artificial mothers. To make the
experiment proper, Harlow removed the infant from its biological mother early on
and was raised with individual cages (Myers, 2010, p. 188). The experiment was set
up so that there were two mothers ; one with the monkey s blanket and the other had
a bottle attached to a wire skeleton. This experiment was to test if a soft, caring
mother, or one that provided food whenever pleased would more comfort an infant
monkey.
Data Analysis
In the course of raising these infants we observed that they all showed a strong
attachment to the cheesecloth blankets which were used to cover the wire floors of
their cages. Removal of these cloth blankets resulted in violent emotional behavior.
These responses were not short lived; indeed, the emotional disturbance lasted
several days, as was indicated by the infant s refusal to work on the standard learning
tests that were being conducted at the time (Harlow, 1959). The infant monkey would
become distressed when its comfort blanket, a cheesecloth, was removed so this
started the experiment to see if the monkey would prefer a nourishing mother or a
comforting mother. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to further experimenting with other monkeys and the absence of a
comforting mother and just having a wire mother. The monkeys with a comforting
mother would be able to calm themselves by clinging to the mother and having a safe
place, while the monkeys without a cloth mother would just throw themselves on the
ground and cry in distress (Kozlow, 2012). This shows that not only do infants need a
mother for nutrition, but also it is very important for an infant to have a nurturing
mother to be their emotional
Fungal Meningitis Case Study
In September of 2012, an outbreak of fungal meningitis was detected in Tennessee.
This outbreak was linked to environmental contamination of three lots of
methylprednisolone acetate injections (MPA) from one supplier, the New England
Compounding Center (NECC). Most clinical cases were identified as Exserohilum
rostratum. The index case was infected with Aspergillus fumigatus and twenty two
other fungal species were identified (CDC, 2015). There were 753 total cases and 64
deaths across 20 states. Patients developed meningitis, infection, and stroke.
In 2012, the NECC sold several lots of contaminated medication including the MPA
injections linked to the outbreak of fungal meningitis. In addition to the three MPA
lots, five lots of betamethasone, three lots of triamcinolone, and one lot of
cardioplegia solution were contaminated by a variety of bacteria and fungi including
Aspergillus spp. and Bacillus spp (CDC, 2015). In addition to the MPA lots recalled

rostratum is typically nonpathogenic and is commonly found in the environment.
Under normal conditions, the dematiaceous fungus lives in the soil and only causes
disease in plants. It contains high levels of melanin and is brown or black in
appearance. E. rostratum causes disease in plants, such as leaf spot, blight, and rot
(Gauthier, 2013). This fungus rarely causes disease in humans. The Katragkou
literature review of 2014 used forty eight published cases of Exserohilum infections.
Another literature review found 33 cases between 1950 and 2006 (Adler, 2006). The
majority of infections were in immunocompromised patients of related to trauma
(Adler 2006, Katragkou, 2014). Only nine of the 48 cases used for the Katragkou
study had no underlying condition (Katragko, 2014). Both studies found a majority
of infections impacted the skin, cornea, lungs, or sinuses (Adler, 2006; Katragkou,
2014). Infections most commonly occur in India, Israel, and the United States (Adler,

Symbolism Between C.S. LewisВґ The Lion, The Witch and

The symbolism between C.S. Lewis The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, the
fourth book in The Chronicles of Narnia, and the New Testament in the Bible,
particularly the account of Jesus death is not merely coincidental because The Lion,
The Witch and The Wardrobe is, in fact, an allegory. An allegory is a story with
morals in which characters, plots and settings are used as symbols. The Lion, The
Witch and The Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis is rich with Christian symbolism even
though the allegorical nature of it is the subject of much controversy. Nonetheless,
The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is an allegory. In this tale, four ordinary
children find a wardrobe that leads them into Narnia, an extraordinary land parallel to
our universe... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. and Mrs. Beaver are symbolic of guardian angels since they are forever trying
to help the Pevensies by guiding them to safety and leading them through the
snow. Some critics also argue that the Beavers are a representation of Moses. The
fox represents people who do not seem to be religious but when tested are proved
to be very pious and like the fox, willing to give up their lives for the sake of their
beliefs. Aslan is symbolic to Jesus, God, and the goodness of the world. C. S.
Lewis seems to have taken the form or Aslan as a lion for the Bible as well. See, the
Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed (Revelations 5:5). Lewis
tells the story of the Paschal Mystery through Aslan.
The plots and settings of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe only further
prove that Narnia is an allegory. Edmund betraying Aslan is the same as us
betraying God, yet Aslan as does God, rescues Edmund and is prepared to give his
life for him. Aslan knowing he has to die to give Edmund life makes a treaty with
the White Witch to sacrifice his life over Edmund s and naturally, the White Witch
is overjoyed and readily agrees, forgetting the deep magic . Christ was who died on
the cross in payment for our sins and Aslan died for Edmund. On the way to
Calvary, Jesus remained silent, as did Aslan. It is said that Aslan could have killed
them all with one swipe of his paws and it was said that Jesus could have killed

History According to OSHA, on December 29, 1970, the bipartisan Williams Steiger
Occupational Safety and Health Act was sign into law by the United States Congress
and President Richard Nixon. The OSH Act of 1970 was passed to prevent
workers from being killed or seriously harmed at work, required employers to
provide their employees with working conditions that are free of known dangers
and created OSHA, which sets and enforces protective workplace safety and health
standards. (OSHA) OSHA was officially established on April 28, 1971. (Wikipedia)
Background
In order for OSHA to carry out its mission, OSHA employs the following strategies to
help employers and employees reduce injuries, illnesses and deaths on the job with
enforcement by making sure OSHA Regulations are followed, assistance in using
outreach and training to employers and employees and cooperation from partnerships
and alliances through voluntary programs. (All About OSHA) Also according to All

The Diverse Social Self-Verification And Self Enhancement
Reaction Paper: The Diverse Social Self and Self Verification and Self Enhancement
(PSY 138)
Understanding the foundation of the social self, premise of self verification and self
enhancement are crucial to the development and framework of the human psyche.
This response paper will analyze the basic social self, the way humans perceive their
own image and the importance of self verification and self enhancement (Swann et
al., 1989). Once people have a good understanding of the different aspects in their
personalities and self awareness, they can apply positive upward or downward
momentum of self verification and self enhancement to daily activities; this will build
self esteem and can serve as a solid foundation in living a good life.
The Diverse Social Self
The human psyche is diverse in nature. Social psychologists view the three parts
that make up the social self as the individual self, relational self, and collective self
(Gilovich et al., 2013). These categories make up the framework of how humans see
themselves as individuals, how they are in relationships, and how they fit into
society. Several important factors in the social self are self esteem and self worth.
The effects of self verification and self enhancement on positive self esteem and
negative vs. positive self worth can be further analyzed by Swann, Pelham, and Krull
in their 1989 study.
Comparison of the Social Self
Upon review of the required material, it is apparent that there are theories of social

As has been noted before, when we look at the authors of The Declaration of

people who were there. The wealthy, white, landowners make up the Constitution to
fit their needs and exclude everyone else. The people most notably left without rights

formed a bond with each other because they were outside the dominant group. These
groups of people helped gain their strength and voice through speeches and

He goes on to explain his real life experiences. Douglas says: Fellow citizens, I am
not wanting in respect for the fathers of this republic. The signers of the
Declaration of Independence were brave men. They were great men too great
enough to give fame to a great age. It does not often happen to a nation to raise, at
one time, such a number of truly great men. The point from which I am compelled
to view them is not, certainly, the most favorable; and yet I cannot contemplate
their great deeds with less than admiration. They were statesmen, patriots, and
heroes, and for the good they did, and the principles they contend for, I will unite
with you to honor their memory (1822). What Douglas does here is recognize and
respect these men to the crowd and make himself part of the group by honoring
them together and yet he still gets his point across. Douglas was known as an
articulate antislavery speaker his speeches for the Massachusetts Antislavery Society
cemented Douglas role as an abolitionists. Douglas also worked for the Underground
Railroad (owl eyes 1).
Another minority to gain his voice during the American Renaissance was William

Christianity (1867). Apess uses the Bible to gain his audience s sympathy with his

Tinker vs. Des Moines 2200 2800 words
I. Introduction
It was the month of December in 1965 in Des Moines, Iowa. By 1965, about
170,000 U.S. soldiers were stationed in Vietnam. Everyday there was intense
graphic footage of the war broadcasted into American homes. Being only 13 years
old, Mary Beth Tinker was strongly affected by the war and the news it carried with
it. With this, she decided wear a black armband to school protesting the war in
Vietnam. She was not alone in this protest, as her brother, John, and other students
decided to wear black armbands to protest the war as well. The Des Moines
Independent Community School District found out about the protest before it
occurred and passed a preemptive ban. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The schools legally censored the ability to show their symbolic speech by having
uniforms to limit expression. In the Majority opinion of the Tinker v Des Moines
it says that Under our Constitution, free speech is not a right that is given only to be
so circumscribed that it exists in principle but not in fact. Freedom of expression
would not truly exist if the right could be exercised only in an area that a
benevolent government has provided as a safe haven for crackpots. The Constitution
says that Congress (and the States) may not abridge the right to free speech. This
provision means what it says. We properly read it to permit reasonable regulation of
speech connected activities in carefully restricted circumstances. But we do not
confine the permissible exercise of First Amendment rights to a telephone booth or
the four corners of a pamphlet, or to supervised and ordained discussion in a school
classroom (Tinker v. Des Moines, 1969). This statement exemplifies that based on the
first amendment the students have the ability of expression allowed by the

To what extent was the Soviet Union responsible for the consolidation of communism
in Eastern Europe in the period 1945 1953?
Introduction
During the aftermath of World War II, the Soviet Union was primarily responsible for
the consolidation of communism in Eastern Europe.
It was in the spring of 1948 that the Soviet Union had aggressively pushed for the
imposition of Communist rule in most East European nations o Eastern Europe under
Communist rule was comprised of Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland, Albania,
Bulgaria, Romania and Yugoslavia
East European nations started to adopt USSR foreign policy agreements and
embarked on Stalinist transformations of their political, social and economic systems
The Soviet Union s domestic policies combined with Stalin s external ambitions were
key factors in the consolidation of Communism in Eastern Europe
The Soviet Union as an emerging global power in the post war context
After WWII, Stalin and other Soviet officials were determined that Eastern Europe be
converted into a buffer zone against future invasions from other nations o Many
Eastern European countries began to support the Soviet Union
Stalin viewed the creation of a buffer zone in Eastern Europe as the best way to
obtain economic benefits from the region o From eastern Germany, the Soviet
Union extracted 3 500 factories and 1.15 million pieces of industrial equipment in
1945 and 1946 o There was an increase in Soviet military power in Eastern Europe
1984 Vs Eurasia
Undoubtedly, Eurasia is George Orwell s image of what a totalitarian society is
and how he thinks it would feel to live in such a country. However, it would not
take much imagination to think of such a society, especially being as 1984 was
written only four years after North Korea officially split from South Korea.
Whether or not this is a coincidence, North Korea and Eurasia have many similar
characteristics, such as their focus on spreading propaganda, their treatment of
citizens and government workers, and their rewriting of history. The telescreen is
one of the most recognizable objects from 1984, but the idea of an item that
endlessly spews out propaganda is not too far off from what actually happens in
North Korea. Not only does nearly every North Korean home have a speaker, but that
speaker, much like the telescreen in 1984, cannot be turned off, only turned down.
This speaker is commonly called The Third Broadcast. These two forms of
broadcasting systems are not only similar in physical characteristics and usage, but
the propaganda that comes from them is also eerily similar. Along with propaganda,
both the telescreen and the speakers announce news, such as the telescreen, which
had someone reading out,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While almost the entirety of the outside world would agree that North Korea has
done nothing to help their citizens, their own government would claim that they
liberated their people from the rest of the world, much like the Party, claimed, of
course, to have liberated the Proles from bondage (163). While what the Party and
the North Korean claimed to have liberated their low class citizens from different
problems, the parallels are still quite undeniable. However, there are many other
similar features between North Korea and

Shiloh was written by Bobbie Ann Mason in 1982. The center of attraction of this
narrative is a married couple, Leroy Moffitt and his wife, Norma Jean. During this
story the characters are affected by their changing social rural Kentucky environment.
In this time period, Kentucky transforms to a more suburb environment from their
usual rural surroundings. Apart from their marriagechanging with their social
environment, so does their role of gender. Leroy and Norma Jean swaps traditional
gender roles, which alters their marriage and leads to the breakdown of the Moffitts.

to begin her journey. Norma jean does not know where this path will lead her, but
she knows that she is finally leaving.
Leroy and Norma Jean are both victims of rapid social change. Norma Jean was the

the age of eighteen to the man who got her pregnant, and in a cruel twist of fate, the
child dies of sudden infant death syndrome. This event from her life prevents her to

The RFID technology consists of three key elements: RFID tags, RFID readers,
and a back end database server to identify information. The RFID tag stores its
particular ID and some application data for RFID readers thus the tag contains
electronically stored information which is used for access control system. The
major advantage of using the RFID tag is that it allows convenience contactless
access. However, the traditional RFID based access control system identifies an
individual only by means of his or her RFID card that is anyone who presents a
registered RFID card will pass the authentication even he/she is not the genuine card
holder or owner. Moreover, there are many RFID attacks which are:
Sniffing this is reading data from a RFID chips without being given a permission;
Spoofing this is the cloning of information from one chip to another
Tracking this involves the tracking of goods or services without acknowledging the

Denial of Service this involves the jamming of RFID signals to block its normal

The Juvenile Justice System Is The Primary System Used
The Juvenile Justice System is the primary system used to handle youth who are
convicted of criminal offenses. It is just over 100 years old. Over time it has gone
through several changes and its unlikely to disappear anytime soon. We as
Americans are still trying to find different ways to approach juvenile justice vs.
approaching it as adult justice. Throughout most of history, young adults and or
children did not have a separate status between juvenile and adults. Once you
reached the ages of 5 or 6, you became apart of the adult society. There was no
separate system for dealing with youth offenders. In the early 1800s, problems with
how to deal with youth offenders began to come about due to society going through

All juveniles under the age of 16 could be handled by the court. Between 1960s and
the 1980s, attention and speculation began to rise about the concern of the juvenile
delinquency and court system. During this time, this era was characterized by
distinctly harsh punishments for youths. They were also wanting to focus on
providing minors with due process and legal counsel in court. Even though they were
trying to provide help to youth offenders, criticism during this time, focused on racial
discrimination, gender disparities and discrimination towards children with mental
health problems or learning disabilities. Through out the years, crime rates rose and
the misrepresentation from the media began around the 1960s and went through the
1980s. Today in America, no population poses a larger threat to public safety than
juvenile offenders. Juvenile justice system deal with three types of case; Delinquents,
status offenders, neglected, abused or dependent youth. Over the years, many states
have established family courts to deal with offenders and cases with the status of
neglect. Throughout the years, there has always been some type of tension between
police and young offenders. In my personal opinion, I think this comes from the
music that the youth listens to. Most state statues provide some guidance for arrest
procedures. As an officer, you have the discretion in deciding when to arrest juvenile
offenders.

The Renaissance was a rebirth of cultural awareness and learning that took place
during 1400 1500. Art became a branch of learning during the Renaissance. It was a
period of time when art was very important. Artists had finally recaptured the
amazing detail and realism that the Greeks and Romans perfected. Artists broke
boundaries with new exciting mediums and bright colors. Filippo Brunelleschi
permitted artists to decide the proportional size of a figure by inventing the
vanishing point perspective. This made it possible to put everything into perfect
proportion. Many elderly people are found in the paintings. Such as Man in a Red

The rebirth of art in Italy was associated with the rediscovery of ancient philosophy,
literature, and science and the growth of practical methods of study in these fields.
Therefore material subject matter became increasingly important to artists. With the
revived interest in antiquity came a new collection of subjects drawn from Greek and
Roman history and mythology. Like the Maesta shown on page 232 14.9 or online at
http://keptar.demasz.hu/arthp/html/g/giotto/maesta.htm.
The types provided by ancient buildings and works of art also encouraged the
development of new artistic techniques and the need to re create the forms and styles
of classical art. Such as the Branacci Chapel on page 249 fig 15.12 or online at http:/
/www.wga.hu/tours/brancacc/index.html.
Crucial to the development of Renaissance art was the emergence of the artist as a
creator, sought after and respected for his intellect and imagination. Art became
respected as a means for religious and social teaching, and a form of personal, visual
expression.
Although the progression of Italian Renaissance art was a continuous process, it wass
usually divided into three major phases: Early, High, and Late Renaissance. The last
phase has been the subject of complicated interpretations that recognize many
opposing and comparing trends. Some
Analysis Of Juggler By Richard Wilbur
The poem Juggler describes how the tricks the juggler acts out for the crowd amaze
and intrigue them. In the poem Juggler by Richard Wilbur, the author uses imagery,
figurative language and tone to describe the juggler as someone who brings
happiness and fun to others. The use of imagery, figurative language, and tone are
used to describe the juggler and reveal the speaker s own views about the world.
Throughout the poem the author uses imagery to describe the juggler s appearance
and the tricks he is accomplishing in his show. For example, Wilbur states, it takes
a sky blue juggler with five red balls...to shake our gravity up. (lines 6 7). The
author s description of the juggler as someone who can shake our gravity up (line 7)
shows that the juggler is someone who has a tremendous impact on the audience and
the speaker because the audience is full of serious people and the juggler evokes
happiness and astonishment from the audience. Moreover, by saying this the
audience is able to get an insight into the life of the speaker; we are able to see that
not a lot of things happen in the speaker s life that make the speaker happy.
Additionally, Wilbur shows the reader the the juggler is performing, the author says,
Oh, on his toe the table is turning, the broom s Balancing up on his nose, and the
plate whirls. On the tip of the broom! (lines 9 21). We can see the juggler as he is
performing his great trick and how the crowd is happy and amazed at what he is
accomplishing through his performance when the author says, Damn, what a
show,we cry... ( line 21). Having the crowd cheer at the juggler as he completes his
trick of the balancing act showed that people are made happy with small things like
the juggling trick the juggler was performing for the crowd.
As the poem progresses, we can see how the juggler manipulates the five red balls
he is using to move around his body. Richard Wilbur uses figurative language like
personification to show how the balls move by the tricks the juggler does. Wilbur
says, The balls roll around, wheel on his wheeling hand, learning the ways of
lightness, alter to spheres, grazing his finger ends, cling to their course there. ( lines 8

Character Analysis Of Charlotte Douglas
Surprisingly, I found myself liking Charlotte Douglas from Didion s novel more
than any of the other characters that we have read so far. Grace s initial analysis of
Charlotte as someone who merely dreams their life left me with the impression that
she was not going to be a character I would relate to or even remotely identify with.
As the book went on, Charlotte grew on me more and more. I loved how mysterious
behaviors such as her frequent visits to the airport were explained early on in the
book as a mere vehicle for socialization, masquerading, and entertainment, leaving the
readerto view her with a certain degree of disdain. Later in the book, the reader
begins to realize that Charlotte is possibly using the airport as a means of... Show

Churchgoing Christian men are convinced they are on a moral crusade to violently put
an end to the convent in Ruby only through a series of misunderstandings that lead
them to believe that mass abortions and witchcraft are occurring in the confines of
their town. Even though readers will not often particularly like many characters in
the novels they read, insights can absolutely be gained from them.
The differing styles in approaching perspectives in their storytelling between
Didion and the combination of Boyle and Morrison have significant effects on
each of their stories. Didion chooses to provide her story through the use of a
singular narrator, while Boyle and Morrison choose to offer multiple perspectives.
At no point did I feel like my involvement in A Book of Common Prayer was
affected negatively by the use of a singular narrator. By only introducing the reader
to Grace s point of view, the reader is able to fully immerse themselves in the allure
of Charlotte Douglas s character and Grace s fascination with her. The reader is
able to see their own opinion of Charlotte change just as Grace s does when she is
provided with new information about her character. Had Didion s novel been from
multiple perspectives, it likely would have been a vastly more political novel, with
the tensions of Marin, Antonio, Gerardo, and Victor s characters being highlighted.
The singular perspective of A Book of Common Prayer allows for more impetus to

Will Popcorn Pop The Most Kernels
This project is all about popcorn. Everyone likes that right? Well, my research was
all based on how many kernels were in the bag after the popcorn got done popping.
What made me want to do this project was more because of people with money
issues. The point was to help these people find a way to test how much popcornthey
can get with their own money. This is the information on which popcorn brand will
pop the most kernels?
Since the experiment is on which popcorn brand will pop the most kernels, you
need to find some information on reasons why popcorn may not pop. If popcorn is
much drier, it will not pop (Hartman). So if the popcorn is dry, it won`t pop. This is
why popcorn won`t pop which leaves non popped kernels in the bag. Temperature

This will help me understand why popcorn may not pop, because if heat doesn t
transfer to the kernels, they won`t pop (Kruszelnick). Temperature is very important
in this experiment (Energy Heat). Temperature affects the amount of steam, and
steam makes the popcorn pop. So if the temperature is low, it will take more time to
pop. If the temperature is high it will take less time to pop. In conclusion, the lower
the temperature, the less steam created, and the higher temperature, the more steam
created. Resulting in the popping time needed. The temperature is very important,
because the temperature determines when the popcorn will pop. So if the
temperature is low or way high, the popcorn will either burn or not pop (Walker).

The Initiative Of The Pathways Programs Essay
Achieving goals on the roadway to twenty first century jobs is the initiative of the
Pathways Programs. These programs help high school students and adults achieve a
college bond high school diploma or equivalent, and technical skills that will build a
career and educational pathway. Community Colleges work toward partnerships with
K 12 schools, the private sector, government, higher educationand other entities as
one cohesive unit, preparing students for industry occupations and furthering
educational opportunities for students. (Campbell, 2012) These benefits go beyond
the individual affecting the colleges, communities and workforce needs of local
industries.
The changing tide in colleges from the traditional 18 24 year old students to the non
traditional student that attends school and works or re trains for career advancement
works well with Pathway Programs. All students should leave high school with a
college ready diploma even if they choose a technical or trade career, recognized as
one of the goals of the Common Core State Standards. (Campbell, 2012) Pell Grants
are available for adults entering the Career Pathways programs making college
success easier and the early numbers are showing an upward trend in retention to
graduation rates for adult learners in these programs. (Jobs for the Future, n.d.)
The integration of Common State Standards and Common Career Technical Core
readies students for the workforce and community technical colleges. (Pahlow
Henry David Thoreau And Transcendentalism
Henry David Thoreau was a leading transcendentalist. He was most known for his
essays, with the major themes focusing on nature and government. His works weren t
highly appreciated during his lifetime, but as years went on they became very
influential. He was one of the first environmentalists, and he laid the groundwork for
a lot of progressive movements. Henry David Thoreauwas born on July 12, 1817 in
Concord, Massachusetts. In 1833 he started studying at Harvard college, till 1837.
He studied rhetoric, the classics, philosophy, mathematics, and science. Thoreau
didn t like the idea of traditional professions, so in 1835 he took a break from
Harvard to teach. When he went back to Harvard, he refused to pay the five dollar
fee for his diploma. After he graduated, he started teaching at a public school in
Canton, Massachusetts. He quit a few weeks after starting because he refused to use
capital punishment on his students. In 1838, he and his brother, John, opened a
grammar school. This school was extremely progressive for its time; they would take
nature walks and bring their students to local shops and businesses. The school
closed in 1842 when John died. Shortly after college, Thoreau met Ralph Waldo
Emerson. Emerson took a great interest in Thoreau and opened him up to amazing
opportunities. Emerson introduced him to some of the most influential people of the
time; Ellery Channing, Margaret Fuller, Bronson Alcott, and Nathaniel Hawthorne. In
1842, Thoreau moved in
Inherit the Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee
One of the most controversial plays of its time is hands down, Inherit the Wind.
The main debate throughout the play is the debate between science and religion.
A bit of a background for those that are naive to the topic in this time period to
follow. Small towns such as Hillsboro were very prone to streamlined views in
every possible topic of extremities such as religion to minor topics relative to
eateries, gossip, and small town politics. Lawrence and Lee do an exceptional job
representing and setting the scene of this town by painting the history of the play s
main characters. They make a strong point about the lack of strayed opinion as
everyone is primarily religious in views and science is taught according to the bible.
In a sense it is wrong for one to have a mindor speak about views that clash with
what has been widely accepted in Hillsboro. Drummond is a notorious criminal
defense lawyer who openly voices his opinions about one s ability to think and have
a valid opinion about racy topics; anything that comes to mind. He is deemed atheist
and uses his wit and knowledge of the world to humiliate his nemesis (Brady).
Drummond stems his argument from the townspeople s tunneled vision of religion.
He dissects the bible in its entirety and exposes its truths to all. The individual human
mind. In a child s power to master the multiplication table there is more sanctity than
in all your shouted Amens! , Holy, Holies! and Hosannahs! An idea is a greater

Ellis Harris Narrative
Throughout the afternoon sessions, thankfully only two remained after Emily
Harris, the image of Ellis Harris lingered. He could still vividly envisage her model
features, the manner in which her perky young breasts strained the fabric of her shirt,
her luscious blonde hair, smile, youth. and, oh god, that ass. The perfect, tight
buttocks that flexed under the thin fabric of her uniform as stood, and which his gaze
never left until the office door had closed behind her.
When it had, Dr McHugh not longer attempted to stop the physical reaction her

The Consequences Of Discipline In Children By Ray
Bradbury
Jim Rohn once said, Discipline is the foundation upon which all success is built.
Lack of discipline inevitably leads to failure Ray Bradbury would agree with this
notion as he addresses the consequences of not disciplining your children. Ray
Bradbury shows the conflict of Lydia and George, wealthy parents who live in a
futuristic society, of not spending enough time with their spoiled and entitled
children Wendy and Peter. The conflict between the parents and the children is the
harms of technology. The author uses motifs, conflicts, and allusions to suggest
that a healthy family unit is parents disciplining their children and spending time
with them. Ray Bradbury uses various motifs in the nursery to warn the audience
of the impending fate of Lydia and George for not disciplining their children. The
nursery consisted of lions so real, so feverishly and startlingly real that you could
feel the prickling fur on your hand and the couple s screams after which they
realized why those other screams had sounded so familiar. (Bradbury 3, 14). The
description of the lions provides the reader with a clear sense of how real the
nursery looks; the couple s screams foreshadow the downfall of the couple in the
nursery. These items show how the parents allowed the kids to become spoiled and
attached to the nursery and gave the love for their parents to the nursery, and we see
this with the motifs. The nursery shows the relationship between the children and the
parents. The nursery

Operating expenses includes production costs, such as direct labor, indirect labor,
inventory carrying costs, equipment depreciation, materials and supplies used in
production, and administrative cost. This was not happening at Alex s plant. His
inventories had increased over the past six or seven months and operational
expense also increased. This meant he had a lot of work to do to keep his plant
open and he was now aware of it. It takes a day out with the Boy Scots for Alex to
discover one of his biggest problems at the plant bottlenecks. A bottleneck is any
resource whose capacity is less than the demand placed upon it and thus limiting the
throughput. A nonbottleneck is a resource whose capacity is greater than the
demand paced upon it and thus will contain idle time. A capacity constrained
resource (CCR) is one whose utilization is close to capacity and could be a
bottleneck if not scheduled carefully. Every production system needs some control
point or points to control the flow of product through the system. If the system
contains a bottleneck then the bottleneck is the best place for control. The control
point is called the drum because it will strike the beat that the rest of the system uses
to function. If there is no bottleneck, then the next best place to set the drum would
be a capacity constrained resource. If neither a bottleneck nor a capacity constrained
resource is present, the control point can be

Nelson Mandela Analysis
The relationship that develops between Nelson Mandela and Francois Pienaar in
the movie Invictus suggests how crucial of a role they play as leaders to the people
of South Africa. Even though, Pienaar is white and Mandela is black, they both
work towards uniting a divided nation despite their differences. Regarding Nelson
Mandela, he uses his voice and presidential power to find a way in which he can
unite the whites and blacks of South Africa. When he discovers that sports,
particularly rugby, can be used as a method to unite the people of South Africa to
cheer for one team despite how divided its people may be, it signifies how
influential and wise of a leader he is to the people of South Africa. This is so
inspiring for me because he found an interest that both the whites and blacks of
South Africa have in common that will help bridge the gap between them despite
their troubled history with each other. Some characteristics of Mandela that indicate
how influential of a leader he became for the people of South Africa is because of
his transparence, empathy, courtesy, and humility. Mandela served as such a vital
figure as a leader in uniting South Africa through his devotion to the rugby team. He
understood how influential this team was to the entire nation, and he made every
effort to establish a close relationship with the team by frequently meeting and
speaking with the players and attending their games. Due to his valiant efforts, he
did everything he could to help inspire the team by investing so much time into
their success as a leader to the point where they felt that they would have failed the
entire nation had they not won the World Cup. Now, this surge of success among
the rugby team was ignited by the captain of the team himself, Francois Pienaar.
Francois Pienaar developed into a very crucial leader for not only the South African
rugby team, but for the people of South Africa. He not only led the rugby team to
success on the field, but due to his close relationship with Mandela he was able to
inspire and motivate his teammates towards winning the World Cup. For Pienaar,
winning the World Cup meant so much more to him than simply having the
opportunity to hold up a trophy, but rather to provoke

were considering their options. Before making and rash life altering decisions she

If you are a believer divorced by an unbeliever it also would be ok for that person to

family involved. Going back to the duct tape illustration, people come out hurt and
damaged. I think; however, the church needs to come along side and support the
divorcee. We live in a fallen world where divorce is a very real thing and not
something to be taken lightly.

Though these issues typically come to be resolved, many of the leading issues cause

Perhaps more importantly, it is believed they have little understanding of their own

Some people are so autistic they can almost do nothing for themselves, and are
completely dependent on others for their everyday needs. There are other autistics
that are considered high functioning, and thus are able to do much on their own,
although they may still be better off living in institutions that care for the mentally

ordinary limitations of most autistics, but they also have special mental skills that are

A cross tabulation is a two dimensional frequency distribution of two nominal or
ordinal variables that records the frequency of respondents that have the specific
characteristics. These tables provide a wealth of information about the relationship
between the variables. For an example I chose to use poverty levels and smoking to
show how a contingency table can illustrate a frequency distribution. Poverty level
is a nominal variable that will be the independent variable and the dependent
variable will be smoking. The end table is a chi square test and it is used to
determine if the variables are unrelated.

Fly Fishing History
Imagine sitting on a dock at a nearby pond, fishing and it is peaceful and quiet
when all of sudden a fish bites the hook! Fishing is all about waiting patiently for
the right fish, having the right equipment, and knowing what a person wants to
catch; fishing is more than a way to survive, it has now grown into a lucrative sport,
and become a big hobby for many people around the world. Fishingis a sport that all
started with a stick, line, a hook, and a bait. The whole goal of fishing is to catch a fish
, either fresh or saltwater. The sport is also called angling, but since it has increased
around the world, it has been changed to fishing. The development of fishing
equipment has gradually increased throughout the years. Equipment used to be just a

The main purpose of fly fishing is to get the fish to bite and imitation of a bug.
There are many techniques for fly fishing, to fit the weather conditions such as the
haul cast for it is windy. Bait fishing is also called bottom fishing, which is to catch
fish purposely by using a type of bait such as worms, crickets, and even small fish.
Some of the techniques for bait fishing are bottom rigging, jugging, and the most
common is with a cork (RBFF). Trolling is the use of live bait and artificial lures
that are left in the water behind a slow moving boat. Netting is a setline that traps
the fish. Netting is mostly used in commercial fishing and catching baitfish. The
object of noodling is to catch only catfish, with out a rod and a line, and use only a
person s hands, or feet. Noodling is mostly done in shallow waters. Ice fishing is
normally done in the colder states. When someone goes ice fishing they would need

Donald Trump s Use Of Artifice In The Media
Political leaders who use the tools of mass propaganda to create a sense of faux
intimacy with citizens, no longer need to be competent, sincere, or honest. In the
quote, Hedges is explaining who uses artifice and what they do with their power.
Artifice is a skill that is difficult to maintain and keep realistic. Being the most
essential skill, artifice is the art of deceiving. People s ideas and thoughts are
altered for the gain of one and the loss of another. Everyone will need artifice at
some point in their life to get the attention, item, or person they want. Specifically,
our current President, Donald Trump, uses artifice all too much. He has exceeded
his use of artifice. Trump won was because of his excellent use of artifice. He was
able to persuade enough people to vote for him and his changes he would fulfill.
Artifice takes quite skill to make believable for your audience. The importance of
artifice during his ruling is immense, making it the most essential skill. Donald
Trump is portrayed as a lying, evil individual in the media. Although we may not
know the complete and total truth, we are able to identify that he is lying about
something. For example, one of the very first things Trump had said to gather the
attention of the audience would be about getting rid of all illegal immigrants. Rapidly,
people began turning their heads and opening their ears when they finally understood
what he was trying to do. The consistency and emotional appeal
The Pain Scale By Eula Biss
What is the point in measuring something that is unique to every individual? In
The Pain Scale, the author, Eula Biss, attempts to convey her pain to the reader.
She tells the reader how she has tried to describe and measure her pain. There is a
system set up for doing so, but it leaves much up to individual interpretation. The
arbitrary process by which we are supposed to evaluate the level of pain we are
experiencing doesn t seem to accomplish much. Throughout the essay, Biss uses
unique ways of comparing the suggested levels of pain to other scales. This raises
the question, why can the scale, itself, doesn t do adequate job of helping people
understand pain. The Beaufort scalewas developed by in 1805 by Sir Francis... Show

In the century spanning Defoe and Beaufort s scales, many others adapted and added
measures that helped establish Beaufort s definitive measure of winds. Temperature
scales are also used in an attempt to make the concept of measuring pain more
relatable. Across the world, temperature is measured in degrees Celsius. At zero,
water freezes and, at one hundred, water boils. Despite Celsius being the global
standard, the Fahrenheit scale was developed decades earlier. Daniel Gabriel
Fahrenheit based his temperature scale on two marks: on the lower end, the point
where a mixture of salt and water would cease to exist as a liquid, and, on the upper
end, a measure of normal body temperature. In an effort to add more confusion to the
two standards, Lord Kelvin introduced the idea of an absolute zero. Absolute zero is
the point where molecules and atoms are supposed to be essentially motionless.
Despite this, research has showed that the motion doesn t really stop. As Biss says,
...absolute is not absolute. She finds that comforting, but not quite enough.
Throughout Biss essay, she also attempts to equate the pain scale to something that
seems much more insidious. To many, the thought of Dante Alighieri s Divine
Comedy brings about a reminder of the pain many suffered having to analyze the text
in high school. Biss sees an
Child Interview Research Paper
Imagine moving from the city to the very outskirts of somewhere you have known
ever since you can remember. Luckily, Ashley only did this one time in her life. I
have known Ashley since 9th grade and I know she isn t your average girl. While

Ashley Marcoz is a 16 year old born on March 5th, 2001 at Westmoreland Hospital
in Greensburg Pa. She has only moved one time, for the first 9 years of her life she
lived in the city of Greensburg but she now lives in the outskirts of Greensburg

in her family is a 34 year old half sister Jenniffer, then her 21 year old half brother
Cody, and the youngest sibling is her younger biological sister Megan. Ashley isn t

immediate family members live with her but on the weekends she stays with her

A Modern Synthesis of Science with Eastern Christianity...
Introduction
Since the dawn of consciousness, humans have strived to understand the world
around them and their place in it. From the first naturalistic surveys of the flora and
fauna of the earth painted on the rocky walls of fire lit caves millennia ago to the
enormously complex investigations into quantum physics ventured at today s particle
accelerators, human curiosity has known no bounds. By way of organizing the
countless questions posed and answers sought, broad conceptions of science, reason,
philosophy, and religion have been created and debated by humankind for centuries.
Beginning in earnest during the Age of Reason following the Renaissance, two
distinct ways of understanding the world seemed to form. On one hand, ... Show more

Conceptions holding that science and religion should operate (epistemologically and
philosophically) in basically the same manner lead to the Conflict or Integration
models . At issue for philosophy, from the most formal seminars in leading
universities to the most basic ideas of personal morality conceived by individuals
world wide, is achieving a supreme understanding of humanity and its role in the
world. Should this understanding encompass both science and religion (Dialogue and
Integration) or favor one or the other rather than some synthesis of both
(Independence and Conflict)? How a specific philosophy answers these sets of
essential questions determines how science and religion will interact and the role of
each in a greater understanding of the world.
It seems to me that the most complete and satisfying understanding of the world
must take into account both scientific ideas of reason and rational progress in
synthesis with some religious conception of a divine designer, infinite in power
and scope. The reasons for this insistence for both shall become clear in the
following pages. Science, as I will take it for the remainder of this essay,
encompasses the various fields known as physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics
and most of philosophy. It is a rational system based on a combination of reason,
intellect, and empirical observations. Religion, as I will use it, refers to a specific
outlook on Christianity developed in the eastern
Hurricanes In The Atlantic Basin
Hurricanes are large, swirling storms. They are faster than a cheetah. A hurricane
can perform speeds of 74 mph or greater. Each year is different in hurricane count,
but the most hurricanes that have ever happened in one year in the Atlantic Basin
are 12, the least was 2. The Eastern Pacific Ocean has as many as 14 hurricanes a
year. Hurricanes form over the water of 80 degrees or warmer. The atmosphere must
cool off very quickly the higher you go. Hurricanes also need the windblowing in the
same direction and at the same speed to force air upward from the ocean s surface.
Hurricanes can destroy buildings, trees, beaches, homes, and can take lives. To
protect yourself from hurricanes you can check your roof of your house to prevent
Three Different Types Of Conflicts In Short Stories
Types of Conflicts in Short Stories
Short story writing literature is a very important art and has been around for long
time. Every short story will consist of five different elements. These are as follows:
Setting, Plot, Character, Point of View and Theme. In this essay, we are going to
discuss three of these stories and try to look at them from different perspectives. We
will be considering the elements of the stories and how the writers expressed that. We
are going to discuss the different phases and changes that each character in these three
different stories from the beginning until the end with some highlight on the events
and conflicts that lead to these changes. We will start with A Letter from Gaza by
Ghassan Kanafani, then After Twenty Years by O. Henry and last will be The
Scarlet Ibis by J. Hurst. I will give a summarizing overall conclusion at the end of
this essay.
Conflict is a major component within the plot element of a story and moves the
events. It is about the struggle that characters face to lead them ... Show more content

about being ashamed about it that drives him to force the little brother to become
better or else more normal. When the brother said ..Renaming my brother was

He taught Doodle to stand and walk. He even wanted him to run, swim and climb

and wanted him to be normal. It was also because he was ashamed to pull him in

his parents the first time. ..They didn t know that I did it just for myself, that Doodle

A Better Understanding Of Glaucoma
Better understanding of glaucoma, requires assessment of the different components
incorporate ,retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), and, and visual function. On the other
hand, elevated intraocular pressure, are not only risk factor of glaucoma .RNFL
thickness measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a reliable early
marker of glaucoma[1,2]. As the pathogenesis of glaucoma involves the
degeneration of axons as well as cell bodies and dendrites, The primary site of
axonal damage in glaucoma is thought to be the lamina cribrosa , based on findings
from previous studies [3 5] ,which thought to be via several mechanisms, including
mechanical damage, [6]compromised vascular supply, [7] and increased translaminar
pressure gradient[8]. The main load bearing tissue of the eye is the sclera and its
deformations due to the IOP changes are transmitted to the optic nervehead (ONH).
ONH cupping in glaucoma is thought to be a combination of the two components
prelaminar and laminar cupping [9]. Clinically, glaucomatous optic nerve damage is
diagnosed by the deepening and extension of the optic cup ,with dimension of the
neuro retinal rim [10]. The anterior and posterior surface of the LC is well visualized
on the OCT, and this may be used in understanding glaucomatous changes [11].
Optical coherence tomography is a method of using low coherence interferometry to
scan through the layers of the retinawith very high axial resolution (3 to 15 Ојm) , for
imaging disorders affecting

Technology Today
Imagine this: the year is 1980, a family is sitting around a dinner table engaging in
conversation about how his or her day went, everyone is listening to each other, all
is well. Now, fast foreword to 2016, that same dinner table looks completely
different. Everyone is looking down, distracted by his or her phone, no one is really
listening to each other; this is the reality of today and it shows how much we have
changed in the short span of a decade. Without a doubt, I believe that the use of
technology has more negative effects than positive ones on our worldtoday. The use
of technology has created a place where no one really knows how to talk or
communicate with each other, teens and kids can t function without their phones, and

Not only is technology hindering our use of communication and our school systems,
but has anyone ever sat down to study the toll that this much screen time could be
taking on our minds and brains? I remember as kid my mom would limit my TV
time to an hour and a half a day in fear that my brain would turn into mush. Now,
with an average screen time of at least six or seven hours, it s no wonder why I am
always complaining about my eyes hurting or how tired I am, but alas, it is
impossible to escape technology. While not having to step out of one s house to
do simple things like shop, check out books, and play games is great, in the end,
with every new version of the iPhone to come out, we, as people, have only
become more reliant on technology and frankly less knowledgeable. Something
needs to be done to change this. Should we just sit back and let the next generation
of kids be as lazy and dependent on these compact devices as we are? No, something
needs to be done to assure that our world will be safe in the hands of the future
generations to come. It is because of the lack of communication, the feeling of being
lost without our phones, and the effect that screens are having on our brains that I
believe the limitation of human contact because of technology has more negative
Informative Speech On Iceland
General Purpose: To inform about the various aspects of Icelandic culture.
Introduction
Attention Gainer: *draws a huge circle representing Iceland* *smacks the
whiteboard* ICELAND IS GREEN... GREENLAND IS ICE...
Reason to Listen: As you will soon see, Iceland is full of beautiful scenery and
natural wonders that everyone should have the chance to see at least once in their
lifetime.
Speaker Credibility: While reading an article from The Telegraph, I came across the
astonishing truth of just how popular of a tourist attraction Iceland is. Morris (2016)
stated in his article that 2016 will mark the first time that the total number of
American tourists will be greater than the number of Icelandic residents . After
reading that I knew I wanted to research more about the culture of Iceland and find
out why it is such a popular tourist spot.
Thesis Statement: Today, we will be informing everyone about the unique culture of
Iceland.
Preview Main Points: We will be discussing Icelandic geography, common leisurely
activities, food, and century old traditions.
Body
Main Point # 1: Because the island of Iceland is both geographically and
volcanically active, it is home to some of the world s most beautiful geography.
(Aaron)
(Sub Point # 1) (Natural wonders) Iceland is known for its geothermal spas,
specifically the Blue Lagoon, and its stunning waterfalls.
The seawater blue color is due to its high concentration of sulfates... the minerals in
the water are believed to give the water curative powers (Petroski, 2012, p. 23).
(Sub Point # 2) (Landscape photography subculture) Many tourists year round visit
Iceland in attempt to capture the natural beauty of the island.
TRANSITION STATEMENT: Iceland s beautiful geography gives way to incredible
activities for both locals and tourists to do. (Maddie)
Main Point # 2: Iceland s natural hot pots and mountains make swimming and hiking
very popular activities across the country. (Maddie)
(Sub Point # 1) One of the most popular activities in Iceland is swimming, whether it
be in a man made pool, geothermal bath, or hot pot. (Maddie)
A popular hot spring pool in Iceland is The Secret Lagoon which is surrounded by
geothermal spots and a little Geysir which erupts every 5
The Relationship Between Central African Franc And
France...
Lowrey (1995) supports the fact that there is a theoretical relationship between the
Central African Franc (CFA) and France s inflation rates, and that the CFA members
monetary policies are, in effect, still determined by France. In the case of French
economic aid, various scholars demonstrate how this has traditionally been deployed
to maintain influence and power in Africa. As noted above, Cumming (2001) has
written extensively about political conditionality as something that the recipient
country had to do prior to receiving French aid. Others such as Olsen (2001) also
questions the impact of public opinion on the setting up of French ODA.
Others still focus on cultural assistance (Andereggen 1994Нѕ Kanu 2007), as culture
represents an essential and integral part of any country s diplomacy. For example,
Andereggen (1994) stresses the cultural side of this relationship through the
promotion of instruments such as the Alliances Françaises and the Centres Culturels
Français, which ceased to exist after 2011 and were replaced by the Instituts
Français. Some authors highlight more coercive tools such as political
conditionality (Crawford 1997Нѕ Cumming 2001). Cumming also details civil
society building aid programmes and is less acerbic and explores France s attempts
to bolster the efforts of French and Cameroonian civil society actors. Ultimately, he
however recognises that the French state has not been willing to jeopardise its own
interests in the stability of the

As a marketer in BP, he was disappointed when a man he outclassed was promoted
to become his direct boss. This he considered very unfair especially because he had
just then helped boost the company s sales by about 25% with the winning over of a
new contract.
He left the job to serve himself at a time when it was considered stupid to leave the
certainty of a colonial job for the uncertainty of private enterprise. The result was the
establishment of a small family business (with his wife) now known as ELIZADE
NIGERIA LIMITED.
HOW THE BUSINESS WAS ESTABLIHED
His Start up funding: Chief Michael Ade Ojo did not make it that easily; he started
with the little money he was able to save at the time he was working combined with
the help from his wife.
Registration of the business: In 1968, he registered a business name Known as
Elizade Trading Stores handling general textile sales including underwear under the
1968 Companies Decree (now known as Companies and Allied Matters Act 1990
as amended), but later started business as an automobile marketing company named
Elizade Independent Agencies formed in 1971. By 1973 Elizade Trading Stores
and Elizade Independent Agencies were merged and Elizade Nigeria Limited was
incorporated and in 1976 the company secured Federal Government License which
was dealing in Toyota vehicles and spare parts in Nigeria.

biological weapons being used today around the world are; Brucella, Brucellosis,
Smallpox, and Anthrax, etc. These bio agents are mostly being used in terrorism

The Threat Of The Tropical Cyclone
Introduction
Throughout the nation, natural, technological, and man made disasters jeopardizes
communities as a whole. Many people rely on their local communities emergency
preparedness plans, while they should be utilizing their knowledge, information
provided for them, and using their capabilities to ready themselves and their
families. The outcome that can come from any disastrous event mainly relies on
how you respond to the specific threat, and the steps one takes to minimize the risks
of such a scenario. Being from Florida, I have been subject to several types, and
forms, of disasters; but the most common and the one that can pose one of the
greatest threats is the tropical cyclone, also known as the hurricane. When concerning

Many times, these choices can be based on their previous experience and their
knowledge of tropical cyclones. Many families, including my own, that has been a
resident of Florida for a multitude of years has experienced numerous storms and
aware of their capabilities. Over the past quarter decade alone, there have been severe
landings that have stricken the Florida Coast line, such as Hurricane Andrew in 1992,
Hurricane Irene in 1999, and the four storms that landed in 2004, Hurricanes Charley,
Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne.
All of these landings have convinced many people to seek further knowledge and to
conduct better preparation standards in the inevitability of another landing. In fact,
Chris Landsea, through the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration
Hurricane Research Division states, For the U.S., the locations that have the highest
chances are the following: Miami, Florida 48% ( 2014). This means that every year
Florida, Miami more specifically, has a forty eight percent chance of being hit by a
hurricane. With the high percentage of Florida possibly being struck each year, many
residents have possibly become disillusioned about the possible catastrophic damage
these storms can truly cause.
In addition to the residential firsthand knowledge, and reoccurrence of these natural
disasters, another aspect that can affect the decisions

they were brave beyond belief. Perhaps with this book I have at last touched them

Analysis Of The Pedestrian By Ray Bradbury
Can conforming to a culture prove beneficial to one s character? Or will it have
permanent, damaging effects on an individual s state of mind? The Pedestrian by
Ray Bradbury is an introduction to the idea of the conflict between personal desire,
and an obligation to behave according to the social norm. Ray Bradburyantagonizes a
world of technological advancements. It is valuable to note that the story is a
reflection of Bradbury s concerns of an automotive world. These concerns stem from
the endangerment of writing as a consequence of technological innovations, since
new technology comes hand in hand with new forms of media. This explains
Bradbury s antagonization of a world that relies on technology considering the
inevitable decision between conforming to ever evolving standards, or fulfilling
personal desires. In this case, Bradbury had the choice of either adapting to new
advancements and self expressing through modern forms of media, while sacrificing
the enjoyment as well as the familiarity of future work, or refusing to conform and
sacrificing success. The standardization of television was an endangerment of
professional writing, which the author expressed in the story. For instance, the robot
implied that writing has become obsolete by stating that the protagonist had no
profession. The short story The Pedestrianby Ray Bradbury is an explicit
representation of the conflict between personal desire and having to conform to
society.
An individual who refuses to submit to the pressure of a dominant culture will
become cast out. This introduces a conflict between personal desire, and yielding
to the surrounding civilization. Mr. Mead was cast out as a direct consequence of
refusing to adopt the behavioural standards of other members of the society. This
becomes evident when Mr. Mead s is cast out by a police officer, and transported to
the Psychiatric Center for Research on Regressive Tendencies. Mr. Mead is also
cast out by fellow citizens when, through the windows on the street faces appear and
an entire street be startled by the passing of a lone figure when carrying out what
Mr. Mead most dearly loved to do. In Bradbury s dystopian society, being an outcast
has dire consequences. Thus

  • 2. Aladdin The Musical Reflection The theater was largely attended by children and toddlers. To my surprise, I noticed that there were a decent number of adults attending the show too. I was not sure if they were dragged into the show by their own children or that they came to watch the performance willingly. Unfortunately, I was dragged into the theater to watch Aladdin the Musical with my younger siblings during a family outing in Disneyland. I tried my best to spot other adolescents in the theater. However, it felt like I was the only one. Embarrassed, I sat in deeper into my seat, hoping that no adults could find and criticize me. Aladdin the Musical uses the same plot from the movie, Aladdin as a foundation for their own plot. The plot is about how a thief was destined to be the prince of Agrabah with the help of a powerful genie and how an evil vizier named Jafar desired to take over the kingdom of Agrabah by abusing the genie s powers. As the emcee made his announcements, I assumed that I would fall asleep on the cushioned seat from all the boredom I would experience from a children s fairytale. Surprisingly, I was wide awake throughout the entire show. In fact, I enjoyed the performance very much. When the mammoth purple curtains were raised, my jaw dropped as I witnessed the props for the first scene. In the first scene, there was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The flow of the scenes made the story understandable. However, the performance did not exactly follow the same storyline as the movie. For example, Aladdin was actually sent to prison by Jafar and he escaped it by using one of the genie s three wishes but the performance altered their story so they need not to reenact that scene. I also believed that the performance could have had more backstory. For example, the performance did not inform the audience that Princess Jasmine was fussy about choosing her suitors and that Jafar was trying to court her so that he can take over the kingdom of
  • 3. Antitrust Laws Of The Sherman Act And The Ftc Act Antitrust are a series of laws designed to protect competition in the marketplace. Antitrust laws prevent restraints of trade or commerce. Black s Law Dictionary defines antitrust laws as [t]he body of law designed to protect trade and commerce from restraints, monopolies, price fixing, and price discrimination. The main law regulating antitrust is the Sherman Antitrust Act, which makes it illegal for individuals or groups to restrain trade or commerce. Besides the Sherman Act, the other law that factors into Dental Examiners is the Federal Trade CommissionAct, which prohibits any [u]nfair methods of competition. This law serves as the basis for the majority of Federal Trade Commission lawsuits such as Dental Examiners. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the Court found that the standards were an antitrust activity, it was not unreasonable because it was for the purpose of protecting athletes, not controlling the market. In summation, antitrust laws prevent only unreasonable restraints of trade, which is based upon the circumstances of the restriction. Goals of Antitrust Law Antitrust laws are meant to protect competition in markets. They try to ensure that all individuals have an equally opportunity in honest competition. Early in the nation s history, there was widespread fear of the dangers of monopolies and other restrictions on competition. In 1890, Congress passed the Sherman Antitrust Act to prevent limits on competition caused by private parties. Thus the main goal of antitrust law is to preserve economic freedom and a free enterprise system. Specifically, it attempts to preserve the freedom to compete for businesses. In a practical sense, antitrust laws are seeking to prevent burdens on competition in the marketplace. Damages in Antitrust Lawsuits Antitrust plaintiffs have many different remedies available to them under Federal antitrust law. Plaintiffs can receive damages for any loss they sustained from the antitrust activity. For example, if an antitrust activity prevented a salesperson from conducting their normal profession then that person would likely be able to recover damages for that loss. In antitrust law, plaintiffs receive treble damages,
  • 4. Baby Monkey Psychology A psychologist in the 1950 s by the name of Harry Harlow did a study on the parent infant bond using a baby monkey and two artificial mothers. To make the experiment proper, Harlow removed the infant from its biological mother early on and was raised with individual cages (Myers, 2010, p. 188). The experiment was set up so that there were two mothers ; one with the monkey s blanket and the other had a bottle attached to a wire skeleton. This experiment was to test if a soft, caring mother, or one that provided food whenever pleased would more comfort an infant monkey. Data Analysis In the course of raising these infants we observed that they all showed a strong attachment to the cheesecloth blankets which were used to cover the wire floors of their cages. Removal of these cloth blankets resulted in violent emotional behavior. These responses were not short lived; indeed, the emotional disturbance lasted several days, as was indicated by the infant s refusal to work on the standard learning tests that were being conducted at the time (Harlow, 1959). The infant monkey would become distressed when its comfort blanket, a cheesecloth, was removed so this started the experiment to see if the monkey would prefer a nourishing mother or a comforting mother. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This led to further experimenting with other monkeys and the absence of a comforting mother and just having a wire mother. The monkeys with a comforting mother would be able to calm themselves by clinging to the mother and having a safe place, while the monkeys without a cloth mother would just throw themselves on the ground and cry in distress (Kozlow, 2012). This shows that not only do infants need a mother for nutrition, but also it is very important for an infant to have a nurturing mother to be their emotional
  • 5. Fungal Meningitis Case Study In September of 2012, an outbreak of fungal meningitis was detected in Tennessee. This outbreak was linked to environmental contamination of three lots of methylprednisolone acetate injections (MPA) from one supplier, the New England Compounding Center (NECC). Most clinical cases were identified as Exserohilum rostratum. The index case was infected with Aspergillus fumigatus and twenty two other fungal species were identified (CDC, 2015). There were 753 total cases and 64 deaths across 20 states. Patients developed meningitis, infection, and stroke. In 2012, the NECC sold several lots of contaminated medication including the MPA injections linked to the outbreak of fungal meningitis. In addition to the three MPA lots, five lots of betamethasone, three lots of triamcinolone, and one lot of cardioplegia solution were contaminated by a variety of bacteria and fungi including Aspergillus spp. and Bacillus spp (CDC, 2015). In addition to the MPA lots recalled in September, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... rostratum is typically nonpathogenic and is commonly found in the environment. Under normal conditions, the dematiaceous fungus lives in the soil and only causes disease in plants. It contains high levels of melanin and is brown or black in appearance. E. rostratum causes disease in plants, such as leaf spot, blight, and rot (Gauthier, 2013). This fungus rarely causes disease in humans. The Katragkou literature review of 2014 used forty eight published cases of Exserohilum infections. Another literature review found 33 cases between 1950 and 2006 (Adler, 2006). The majority of infections were in immunocompromised patients of related to trauma (Adler 2006, Katragkou, 2014). Only nine of the 48 cases used for the Katragkou study had no underlying condition (Katragko, 2014). Both studies found a majority of infections impacted the skin, cornea, lungs, or sinuses (Adler, 2006; Katragkou, 2014). Infections most commonly occur in India, Israel, and the United States (Adler, 2006; Katragkou,
  • 6. Symbolism Between C.S. LewisВґ The Lion, The Witch and The... The symbolism between C.S. Lewis The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, the fourth book in The Chronicles of Narnia, and the New Testament in the Bible, particularly the account of Jesus death is not merely coincidental because The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is, in fact, an allegory. An allegory is a story with morals in which characters, plots and settings are used as symbols. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis is rich with Christian symbolism even though the allegorical nature of it is the subject of much controversy. Nonetheless, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is an allegory. In this tale, four ordinary children find a wardrobe that leads them into Narnia, an extraordinary land parallel to our universe... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mr. and Mrs. Beaver are symbolic of guardian angels since they are forever trying to help the Pevensies by guiding them to safety and leading them through the snow. Some critics also argue that the Beavers are a representation of Moses. The fox represents people who do not seem to be religious but when tested are proved to be very pious and like the fox, willing to give up their lives for the sake of their beliefs. Aslan is symbolic to Jesus, God, and the goodness of the world. C. S. Lewis seems to have taken the form or Aslan as a lion for the Bible as well. See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed (Revelations 5:5). Lewis tells the story of the Paschal Mystery through Aslan. The plots and settings of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe only further prove that Narnia is an allegory. Edmund betraying Aslan is the same as us betraying God, yet Aslan as does God, rescues Edmund and is prepared to give his life for him. Aslan knowing he has to die to give Edmund life makes a treaty with the White Witch to sacrifice his life over Edmund s and naturally, the White Witch is overjoyed and readily agrees, forgetting the deep magic . Christ was who died on the cross in payment for our sins and Aslan died for Edmund. On the way to Calvary, Jesus remained silent, as did Aslan. It is said that Aslan could have killed them all with one swipe of his paws and it was said that Jesus could have killed

History According to OSHA, on December 29, 1970, the bipartisan Williams Steiger Occupational Safety and Health Act was sign into law by the United States Congress and President Richard Nixon. The OSH Act of 1970 was passed to prevent workers from being killed or seriously harmed at work, required employers to provide their employees with working conditions that are free of known dangers and created OSHA, which sets and enforces protective workplace safety and health standards. • 8. The Diverse Social Self-Verification And Self Enhancement Reaction Paper: The Diverse Social Self and Self Verification and Self Enhancement (PSY 138) Understanding the foundation of the social self, premise of self verification and self enhancement are crucial to the development and framework of the human psyche. This response paper will analyze the basic social self, the way humans perceive their own image and the importance of self verification and self enhancement (Swann et al., 1989). Once people have a good understanding of the different aspects in their personalities and self awareness, they can apply positive upward or downward momentum of self verification and self enhancement to daily activities; this will build self esteem and can serve as a solid foundation in living a good life. The Diverse Social Self The human psyche is diverse in nature. Social psychologists view the three parts that make up the social self as the individual self, relational self, and collective self (Gilovich et al., 2013). These categories make up the framework of how humans see themselves as individuals, how they are in relationships, and how they fit into society. Several important factors in the social self are self esteem and self worth. The effects of self verification and self enhancement on positive self esteem and negative vs. positive self worth can be further analyzed by Swann, Pelham, and Krull in their 1989 study. Comparison of the Social Self Upon review of the required material, it is apparent that there are theories of social

He goes on to explain his real life experiences. Douglas says: Fellow citizens, I am not wanting in respect for the fathers of this republic. The signers of the Declaration of Independence were brave men. They were great men too great enough to give fame to a great age. It does not often happen to a nation to raise, at one time, such a number of truly great men. The point from which I am compelled to view them is not, certainly, the most favorable; and yet I cannot contemplate their great deeds with less than admiration. They were statesmen, patriots, and heroes, and for the good they did, and the principles they contend for, I will unite with you to honor their memory (1822). In the Majority opinion of the Tinker v Des Moines it says that Under our Constitution, free speech is not a right that is given only to be so circumscribed that it exists in principle but not in fact. Freedom of expression would not truly exist if the right could be exercised only in an area that a benevolent government has provided as a safe haven for crackpots. The Constitution says that Congress (and the States) may not abridge the right to free speech. This provision means what it says. We properly read it to permit reasonable regulation of speech connected activities in carefully restricted circumstances. But we do not confine the permissible exercise of First Amendment rights to a telephone booth or the four corners of a pamphlet, or to supervised and ordained discussion in a school classroom (Tinker v. However, it would not take much imagination to think of such a society, especially being as 1984 was written only four years after North Korea officially split from South Korea. Whether or not this is a coincidence, North Korea and Eurasia have many similar characteristics, such as their focus on spreading propaganda, their treatment of citizens and government workers, and their rewriting of history. The telescreen is one of the most recognizable objects from 1984, but the idea of an item that endlessly spews out propaganda is not too far off from what actually happens in North Korea. It is just over 100 years old. Over time it has gone through several changes and its unlikely to disappear anytime soon. We as Americans are still trying to find different ways to approach juvenile justice vs. approaching it as adult justice. Throughout most of history, young adults and or children did not have a separate status between juvenile and adults. Once you reached the ages of 5 or 6, you became apart of the adult society. Even though they were trying to provide help to youth offenders, criticism during this time, focused on racial discrimination, gender disparities and discrimination towards children with mental health problems or learning disabilities. Through out the years, crime rates rose and the misrepresentation from the media began around the 1960s and went through the 1980s. Today in America, no population poses a larger threat to public safety than juvenile offenders. Juvenile justice system deal with three types of case; Delinquents, status offenders, neglected, abused or dependent youth. Over the years, many states have established family courts to deal with offenders and cases with the status of neglect. Throughout the years, there has always been some type of tension between police and young offenders. In my personal opinion, I think this comes from the music that the youth listens to. Most state statues provide some guidance for arrest procedures. As an officer, you have the discretion in deciding when to arrest juvenile offenders.

In the poem Juggler by Richard Wilbur, the author uses imagery, figurative language and tone to describe the juggler as someone who brings happiness and fun to others. The use of imagery, figurative language, and tone are used to describe the juggler and reveal the speaker s own views about the world. Throughout the poem the author uses imagery to describe the juggler s appearance and the tricks he is accomplishing in his show. For example, Wilbur states, it takes a sky blue juggler with five red balls...to shake our gravity up. (lines 6 7). The author s description of the juggler as someone who can shake our gravity up (line 7) shows that the juggler is someone who has a tremendous impact on the audience and the speaker because the audience is full of serious people and the juggler evokes happiness and astonishment from the audience. Moreover, by saying this the audience is able to get an insight into the life of the speaker; we are able to see that not a lot of things happen in the speaker s life that make the speaker happy. Additionally, Wilbur shows the reader the the juggler is performing, the author says, Oh, on his toe the table is turning, the broom s Balancing up on his nose, and the plate whirls. Small towns such as Hillsboro were very prone to streamlined views in every possible topic of extremities such as religion to minor topics relative to eateries, gossip, and small town politics. Lack of discipline inevitably leads to failure Ray Bradbury would agree with this notion as he addresses the consequences of not disciplining your children. Ray Bradbury shows the conflict of Lydia and George, wealthy parents who live in a futuristic society, of not spending enough time with their spoiled and entitled children Wendy and Peter. The conflict between the parents and the children is the harms of technology. The author uses motifs, conflicts, and allusions to suggest that a healthy family unit is parents disciplining their children and spending time with them. Ray Bradbury uses various motifs in the nursery to warn the audience of the impending fate of Lydia and George for not disciplining their children. The nursery consisted of lions so real, so feverishly and startlingly real that you could feel the prickling fur on your hand and the couple s screams after which they realized why those other screams had sounded so familiar. (Bradbury 3, 14). The description of the lions provides the reader with a clear sense of how real the nursery looks; the couple s screams foreshadow the downfall of the couple in the nursery. The nursery shows the relationship between the children and the parents. The nursery

This was not happening at Alex s plant. His inventories had increased over the past six or seven months and operational expense also increased. This meant he had a lot of work to do to keep his plant open and he was now aware of it. It takes a day out with the Boy Scots for Alex to discover one of his biggest problems at the plant bottlenecks. A bottleneck is any resource whose capacity is less than the demand placed upon it and thus limiting the throughput. A nonbottleneck is a resource whose capacity is greater than the demand paced upon it and thus will contain idle time. A capacity constrained resource (CCR) is one whose utilization is close to capacity and could be a bottleneck if not scheduled carefully. Every production system needs some control point or points to control the flow of product through the system. If the system contains a bottleneck then the bottleneck is the best place for control. The control point is called the drum because it will strike the beat that the rest of the system uses to function. If there is no bottleneck, then the next best place to set the drum would be a capacity constrained resource. If neither a bottleneck nor a capacity constrained resource is present, the control point can be

Nelson Mandela Analysis The relationship that develops between Nelson Mandela and Francois Pienaar in the movie Invictus suggests how crucial of a role they play as leaders to the people of South Africa. Even though, Pienaar is white and Mandela is black, they both work towards uniting a divided nation despite their differences. Regarding Nelson Mandela, he uses his voice and presidential power to find a way in which he can unite the whites and blacks of South Africa. When he discovers that sports, particularly rugby, can be used as a method to unite the people of South Africa to cheer for one team despite how divided its people may be, it signifies how influential and wise of a leader he is to the people of South Africa. This is so inspiring for me because he found an interest that both the whites and blacks of South Africa have in common that will help bridge the gap between them despite their troubled history with each other. Some characteristics of Mandela that indicate how influential of a leader he became for the people of South Africa is because of his transparence, empathy, courtesy, and humility. Mandela served as such a vital figure as a leader in uniting South Africa through his devotion to the rugby team. He understood how influential this team was to the entire nation, and he made every effort to establish a close relationship with the team by frequently meeting and speaking with the players and attending their games. Due to his valiant efforts, he did everything he could to help inspire the team by investing so much time into their success as a leader to the point where they felt that they would have failed the entire nation had they not won the World Cup. Now, this surge of success among the rugby team was ignited by the captain of the team himself, Francois Pienaar. Francois Pienaar developed into a very crucial leader for not only the South African rugby team, but for the people of South Africa. He not only led the rugby team to success on the field, but due to his close relationship with Mandela he was able to inspire and motivate his teammates towards winning the World Cup. For Pienaar, winning the World Cup meant so much more to him than simply having the opportunity to hold up a trophy, but rather to provoke

Donald Trump s Use Of Artifice In The Media Political leaders who use the tools of mass propaganda to create a sense of faux intimacy with citizens, no longer need to be competent, sincere, or honest. In the quote, Hedges is explaining who uses artifice and what they do with their power. Artifice is a skill that is difficult to maintain and keep realistic. Being the most essential skill, artifice is the art of deceiving. People s ideas and thoughts are altered for the gain of one and the loss of another. Everyone will need artifice at some point in their life to get the attention, item, or person they want. Specifically, our current President, Donald Trump, uses artifice all too much. He has exceeded his use of artifice. Trump won was because of his excellent use of artifice. He was able to persuade enough people to vote for him and his changes he would fulfill. Artifice takes quite skill to make believable for your audience. The importance of artifice during his ruling is immense, making it the most essential skill. Donald Trump is portrayed as a lying, evil individual in the media. Although we may not know the complete and total truth, we are able to identify that he is lying about something. For example, one of the very first things Trump had said to gather the attention of the audience would be about getting rid of all illegal immigrants. Rapidly, people began turning their heads and opening their ears when they finally understood what he was trying to do. The consistency and emotional appeal

The arbitrary process by which we are supposed to evaluate the level of pain we are experiencing doesn t seem to accomplish much. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the century spanning Defoe and Beaufort s scales, many others adapted and added measures that helped establish Beaufort s definitive measure of winds. Temperature scales are also used in an attempt to make the concept of measuring pain more relatable. Across the world, temperature is measured in degrees Celsius. At zero, water freezes and, at one hundred, water boils. Despite Celsius being the global standard, the Fahrenheit scale was developed decades earlier. Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit based his temperature scale on two marks: on the lower end, the point where a mixture of salt and water would cease to exist as a liquid, and, on the upper end, a measure of normal body temperature. In an effort to add more confusion to the two standards, Lord Kelvin introduced the idea of an absolute zero. Absolute zero is the point where molecules and atoms are supposed to be essentially motionless. Despite this, research has showed that the motion doesn t really stop. As Biss says, ...absolute is not absolute. She finds that comforting, but not quite enough. Throughout Biss essay, she also attempts to equate the pain scale to something that seems much more insidious. To many, the thought of Dante Alighieri s Divine Comedy brings about a reminder of the pain many suffered having to analyze the text in high school. Biss sees an

How a specific philosophy answers these sets of essential questions determines how science and religion will interact and the role of each in a greater understanding of the world. Lowrey (1995) supports the fact that there is a theoretical relationship between the Central African Franc (CFA) and France s inflation rates, and that the CFA members monetary policies are, in effect, still determined by France. In the case of French economic aid, various scholars demonstrate how this has traditionally been deployed to maintain influence and power in Africa. As noted above, Cumming (2001) has written extensively about political conditionality as something that the recipient country had to do prior to receiving French aid. Others such as Olsen (2001) also questions the impact of public opinion on the setting up of French ODA. Others still focus on cultural assistance (Andereggen 1994Нѕ Kanu 2007), as culture represents an essential and integral part of any country s diplomacy. For example, Andereggen (1994) stresses the cultural side of this relationship through the promotion of instruments such as the Alliances FranГ§aises and the Centres Culturels FranГ§ais, which ceased to exist after 2011 and were replaced by the Instituts FranГ§ais. Some authors highlight more coercive tools such as political conditionality (Crawford 1997Нѕ Cumming 2001). The outcome that can come from any disastrous event mainly relies on how you respond to the specific threat, and the steps one takes to minimize the risks of such a scenario. Over the past quarter decade alone, there have been severe landings that have stricken the Florida Coast line, such as Hurricane Andrew in 1992, Hurricane Irene in 1999, and the four storms that landed in 2004, Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne. All of these landings have convinced many people to seek further knowledge and to conduct better preparation standards in the inevitability of another landing. In fact, Chris Landsea, through the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration Hurricane Research Division states, For the U.S., the locations that have the highest chances are the following: Miami, Florida 48% ( 2014). This means that every year Florida, Miami more specifically, has a forty eight percent chance of being hit by a hurricane. With the high percentage of Florida possibly being struck each year, many residents have possibly become disillusioned about the possible catastrophic damage these storms can truly cause. • 53. Analysis Of The Pedestrian By Ray Bradbury Can conforming to a culture prove beneficial to one s character? Or will it have permanent, damaging effects on an individual s state of mind? The Pedestrian by Ray Bradbury is an introduction to the idea of the conflict between personal desire, and an obligation to behave according to the social norm. Ray Bradburyantagonizes a world of technological advancements. It is valuable to note that the story is a reflection of Bradbury s concerns of an automotive world. These concerns stem from the endangerment of writing as a consequence of technological innovations, since new technology comes hand in hand with new forms of media. This explains Bradbury s antagonization of a world that relies on technology considering the inevitable decision between conforming to ever evolving standards, or fulfilling personal desires. In this case, Bradbury had the choice of either adapting to new advancements and self expressing through modern forms of media, while sacrificing the enjoyment as well as the familiarity of future work, or refusing to conform and sacrificing success. The standardization of television was an endangerment of professional writing, which the author expressed in the story. For instance, the robot implied that writing has become obsolete by stating that the protagonist had no profession. The short story The Pedestrianby Ray Bradbury is an explicit representation of the conflict between personal desire and having to conform to society. An individual who refuses to submit to the pressure of a dominant culture will become cast out. This introduces a conflict between personal desire, and yielding to the surrounding civilization. Mr. Mead was cast out as a direct consequence of refusing to adopt the behavioural standards of other members of the society. This becomes evident when Mr. Mead s is cast out by a police officer, and transported to the Psychiatric Center for Research on Regressive Tendencies. Mr. Mead is also cast out by fellow citizens when, through the windows on the street faces appear and an entire street be startled by the passing of a lone figure when carrying out what Mr. Mead most dearly loved to do. In Bradbury s dystopian society, being an outcast has dire consequences. Thus
