Houston s Fine Arts Museum Analysis
The Museum of Fine Arts is one of the largest museums in the United States. Walking throughout the
museum one will see more than six thousand years of history and about sixty four thousand works
from six continents. Houston has one of the largest and most diverse art collection in the Southwestern
United States. The main reason behind my museum choice is my love and fascination towards all the
different art pieces from around the world. The major focus that can be found at Houston s Fine Arts
Museum is informing and teaching many of all ages about the history of art. Also, positioning art and
the museum as a meaningful part of a well rounded life. Majority of the Fine Arts Museum collection
include the areas of Italian Renaissance painting,

Reading And Thought By Dwight Macdonald
Reading and Though
In Dwight MacDonald s Reading and Though, he disagrees with Henry Luce s Idea of functional
curiosity. Luce coined the term functional curiosity, meaning the kind of searching, hungry interest in
what is happening everywhere. MacDonald s opinion of functional curiosity is that it only encourages
practice in reading rather than giving beneficial information. He considers today s literature as flimsy
and overwhelming. MacDonald assumes that all reading done in today s society is shallow thinking. I
agree with MacDonald that there is a great amount of mediocre literature floating around, but he does
not take into account the technological advancements, the lifestyles of people today, and students.
With the new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The way media is run justifies MacDonald s argument that people are making things that are, hastily
slapped together stuff... and would be foolish to waste much time or effort on writing or reading. All in
all technological advancements have made everything more accessible and eventually handicaps
people from finding the truth for themselves. Instead society just takes in the information that is spoon
fed to them with no thinking required.
MacDonald s argument was written in the 1940 s. Now it is the 21st century and his argument hardly
applies to how information is processed today. Our society has become a more fast paced and busy
lifestyle. Time is something that people do not have to spare. People like instant gratification and that
is the same way we like our information. Literature is written in a way to obtain the most information
with the least amount of time. Newspapers for example, are purposely written where the first couple
of paragraphs give you the gist of what is going on and then the rest is detail. If you are interested in
the topic then you would continue reading or you just move on. MacDonald s example of a 16th
century man reading today s newspaper is a very flawed argument. Reading is something that only
people with money and high social status is able to accomplish. Not only is it restricted to the upper
class, but in the 16th century people were mainly farmers, and could not read. Most

The Significance of the Title of To Kill a Mockingbird by...
The Significance of the Title of To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee The title of this novel is To Kill
a Mockingbird and throughout the book the word mockingbird appears several times. The
mockingbird is the most significant symbol in the novel. The motif of the story is the innocent
creature of the mockingbird. What is a mockingbird? A mockingbird is a type of finch. It is a small
plain bird and has a beautiful song. It got its name because its beautiful sing mocks other birds. The
mockingbird idea first comes about in chapter 10,when Atticus is telling the children how to use their
shotguns. He tells them: Shoot all the blue jays you want, if you can hit em. But remember it s a sin ...

They haven t done anything wrong and are scared that they may get hurt or something bad may
happen when the dog appears. Another time the mockingbird idea comes up is in chapter 21,when
everyone is in the court room waiting for the verdict on whether Tom Robinson has been found guilty
or not. Scout describes the atmosphere in the courtroom like this: The feeling grew until the
atmosphere in the court room was exactly the same as a cold February morning, when the
mockingbirds were still and the carpenters had stopped hammering on miss Maudie s new house. I
think that when Scout talks about the atmosphere being like a cold February morning she is describing
the tension in the room. When everyone is still and silent. When Scout says that the mockingbirds
were still I think that she was referring to Atticus and Tom Robinson. I think this because Tom is
waiting to see if he has been found guilty or not and Atticus is waiting to see if he has won his case.
They are both deadly still and anxious to hear the verdict. They have been regarded as mockingbirds
because both Atticus and Tom are innocent characters that have done nothing wrong. Also another
place in which the idea of mockingbirds appears is in chapter 25,when Mr Underwood is talking about
Tom Robinson s escape and death. He seems very opposed to Tom being shot, as he was a cripple. In
the newspaper article he wrote he said

Looking Back at the OJ Simpson Case
The numerous ups, downs, and controversies surrounding the life of former star football player OJ
Simpson have led to a strangely divided collective memory of the man. The term collective memory
refers to a shared pool of information held in the memories of a group from aggregated individual
recollections. The story of OJ Simpson s life is both sad and puzzling after overcoming adversity to
become one of the best football players of all time and a public figure beloved by many Simpson
would go on to put himself in a worse situation than ever before. Orenthal James Simpson otherwise
known as O.J. Simpson or The Juice was born July 9, 1947 in San Francisco, California. O.J. Simpson

Capricorn One, Back to the Beach, and the Naked Gun Trilogy. OJ even started his own production

Koster, E., Koster, K., Berninger, F., Aaltonen, H., Zhou, X., Pumpanen, J. (2017). Carbon dioxide,
methane and nitrous oxide fluxes from a fire chronosequence in subarctic boreal forests of canada.
Science of the Total Environment, 601, 895 905. doi:10.1016/j.scitotenv.2017.05.246
In the article Carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide fluxes from a fire chronosequence in
subarctic boreal forests of canada, the authors studied the effects of forest fires in Northwestern
Canada. Koster et al. focused on the effects that forest fires had over time, on three greenhouse gases.
There were three main hypotheses in the research paper: The increases of carbon dioxide, methane and
nitrous oxide will change as a consequence of fire and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The biomass and density of trees surrounding each plot were also recorded. A static chamber method
was used to measure the fluxes of the three GHG. The method was carried out using a closed
cylindrical chamber equipped with a small fan, and gas concentrations were measured with an
infrared, non dispersive scope. There were other more detailed, accurate methods used as well to be
more accurate with exact numbers for the concentrations of each gas. The concentrations of each gas
were compared between each location and results are as follows: As the thickness of the active layer
increased, all three greenhouse gas emissions increased. Carbon dioxide fluxes increased with time
since the last fire, with the 1969 fire area having the highest CO2 emissions, and the 2012 fire area
having the lowest CO2 emissions. Methane fluxes had a significant increase in the 1990 fire area, and
a lower influx in all other fire areas. Nitrous oxide had a high influx in every fire area except for the
1990 area, where the fluxes were significantly lower. Addressed in the discussion, the authors write
about how their results indicate that areas affected by fire will take approximately 50 years to fully
recover to their pre fire conditions. As well, areas with a recent fire had much lower soil moisture than
areas with a long time since last

Define Drug Trafficking
Assignment #6
Discuss the production and trafficking of drugs i.e., heroin, cocaine, and crack, and how the
trafficking relates to the criminal enterprise. Discuss the criminal justice systems role in the fight
against drugs.
Cocaine, crack, and heroin are three of the most abused illegal drugs in the United States. There are
some forms of cocaine that are used for medicinal purposes. Cocaine is shipped from South America
by drug cartels, mainly from Peru, Bolivia and Colombia. Drug cartels (coalitions or agreements
between parties intended to further a mutual interest). Drug cartels handle the trafficking of the drug to
one of its biggest customers, the United States.
Heroin is an opioid drug that is manufactured from morphine. The heroin is extracted from the Asian
opium poppy plant. It is believed that 24 percent of people who use heroin become addicted
(dependency on a substance) and they cannot stop using it without adverse affects either
psychologically or physiologically.
Crack, or rock is more addictive than powder cocaine and heroin. Robin Haslam (2013), Director of
Operations and Procedures for Addiction Canada, said that he has never seen someone who can just
smoke crack casually. Heroin, like cocaine is produced from the resin (a sticky substance oozed by the
Asian poppy plant).

Living Conditions During Ww2
Several conditions in the Nazi concentration camps and work camps made it very hard for children to
survive. The camps were tremendously ruthless. The epidemics that broke out in the camps, including
the awful living conditions were very diverse mainly during the years that the camps operated. They
were also uniquely contrasting in each different camp. Whereas many other conditions such as,
executions, hard labor, etc. had a great effect of death of the children, some conditions were worse
than others causing the children to pass away real quick. Medical experiments and living conditions
had the greatest effect of death of children in the Nazi work camps during WWII. Not only were the
children involuntarily used for medical experiments they were also forced to live in brutal living
conditions.
Children died very easily because of how they were being treated. They became very weak. They were
not fed the right amount of calories and were not treated properly. Feeding the prisoners in the
concentration camps was a big issue during the holocaust. The Jewish prisoners were fed three times
thought the day which was spread out evenly between the morning, noon and evening. It wasn t
always the amount of food given to the prisoners daily that was the issue, sometimes is was just the
way they fed them. When the Nazis would feed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Modern Day, Multi National Companies Are Becoming More...
In contemporary organizations where globalization and multi national companies are becoming more
popular, management requires flexibility in how to handle different issues and manage each employee.
Four areas of management that pertain to contemporary management are the approaches to
management, classical, behavioral, quantitative, and modern. Each of the approaches were practiced
commonly in the past, however in the modern day, organizations must incorporate each management
approach to different business situations and work environments. In the modern day, multi national
companies face issues such as culture shock, conflicting ethical standards, and working conditions that
vary between countries. With these varied cultures, managers must ... Show more content on

At Microsoft the chief executive officer is in charge of the company as a whole and holds the most
power while the executive vice presidents oversee each of the departments with managers overseeing
employees at the retail level. An advantage of this approach is that when issues occur at the retail level
such as technical issue that employees are unable to handle, the manager is available to solve these
minor issues. Weber describes this advantage of bureaucracies as the capability of attaining the highest
degree of efficiency since employees have knowledge of who handles which issues and employees are
also highly trained in their routine responsibilities (Schermerhorn et al. 2014). Alan Marsden shows
another advantage of bureaucracy through its use in banks, where the impersonal employee behavior
gives customers a sense of equality and the formal rules in place prevent larger issues such as banks
over borrowing (Marsden 2009). However due to the strict procedures, when larger issues occur, the
bureaucratic approach causes delays to communicate to higher executives on how to solve issues.
Critics have pointed out that the delays become a disadvantage in the modern day since management
must be flexible and adapt to different scenarios, however the rules and regulations in bureaucracy do
not allow these changes to occur easily (Schermerhorn et al. 2014). Overall, the

Negative Effects Of Sexism
Eradication of Sexism
Sexism is another social problem troubling human societies all over the world. Though the roots of
sexism are a lot less broad when compared to racism (when taking into account there are only two
flexible, recognizable human sexes), there is still a large amount of conflict surrounding the social
problems between men and women. If one might not know sexism (or gender discrimination) is
prejudice or discrimination based on a person s sex or gender. Sexism is something that can be
affected by anyone. It has been effective mostly in history as well as the present, which has
predominantly targeted many women and girls. As many people believed in Laurel Ulrich s quote
Well behaved women seldom make history meant women who behave themselves as women should,
rarely make history. This quote is accurate because each woman who made history had to portray
themselves in a terrible manner or behave badly at some point in time to get there point across or
make themselves significant . The eradication of sexism needs to be enforced because sexism creates
disadvantages towards women in the world, substantially in the workplace. Sexism allows the
development of negative emotions in young girls and women, and it impacts the self perception of
men. I would like to change the issue of sexism towards women in our society. This conflict troubles
societies around the country in several ways, and taking several forms. Sexism is a recurring problem
in our country that has

Categorical Imperative Essay
Having argued for the view that hypothetical imperatives are wrong, I now wish to consider rival
views. The other imperative that Kant talks about is the categorical imperative; wish is known to be
the right one. Categorical, or unqualified, imperatives are the right kind of imperatives, because they
show proper recognition of the imperial status of moral obligation (pg. 128). Kant named it,
categorical imperatives (CI), which according to Kant is a strategy for control of morality in any
course of movement. The CI consists of a couple steps that I will explain below: First step is to find a
maxim, which is also known to be the general rule. Meaning, say you were in the spirit to help
someone who was in need. The maxim would be to help the person, but to have no load of weight on
your shoulders by helping them. The second step consists to see if the maxim affects everyone. If the
steps can be made available, then we obtain the maxim, and it is considered to be moral. If they are

129). The core of this concoction of the CI is the desire of a rebuttal, in which has been debated in
what Kant had in mind. The first law is logical contradiction, where the given movement would
clearly be unimaginable. Secondly, Kant might have meant it to be teleological contradiction.
Teleological contradiction is where the top most couldn t be able to work in a functioning manner
lawfully in a well regulated system of nature. The third one Kant mentioned was the practical
contradiction, where my activity wouldn t be affective in trying to achieve motivation, if everyone
wanted to use if for that same purpose. Kant illustrates how the CI principle of the law of nature works
by applying it to each of these maxims (pg.130). Not only does Kant talk about the principles of
nature and the CI, but he also explains what a lying promise

estates. In 1852 he joined the Russian Army and fought in the Caucasus against the Chechen Tribes.
He married a woman named Sonya Bers in 1862, then he died from pneumonia in 1910. In one of his
stories names The Long Exile , he uses the literary elements of foreshadowing, setting, and dialogue to

The Bickerstaff Paper
The Bickerstaff papers begins sometime in 1708, were an almanac, almanac at the time were arguably
the most popular forms of literature. What the almanacs did was predict future events by Astrologers,
usually the upcoming year. The Bickerstaff papers were, in my opinion, the most difficult to
comprehend and interepert. Nevertheless, after careful reading and obtaining background information
in lecture, we can begin to notice just how humorous it is. Isaac Bickerstaff was the alias of Jonathan
Swift. Swift being frustrated that Partridge s attacks upon the church, decided he would attempt to not
only mock but also discredit the Astrologer. Therefore, eventually forcing Partridge to no longer
publish his almanac. Furthermore, what makes these papers so amusing is the fact that Swift or
Bickerstaff, in this case, made an almanac of himself. Where he predicted the death of Partridge.
Predicting the exact time and place of his passing. The prediction was that Partridge would die at
exactly 11 p.m. on March 29th of that year. This prediction shocked most Londoners. As a result of the

erroneous predictions and claims that were present in his previous almanac. In addition, Bickerstaff

throughout Geoff s life, he uses his passion for beans to express his emotion. These emotions are
always emotions of joy. Heinz also uses real life situations to relate to the audience. For example,
when his kids would sit alone on the dining table and eat sloppily. Geoff put in the effort to make a
can of beans that would not be spilled once eaten in a sloppily manner. Once Geoff s boy ate the bean

Heinz used this scene specifically to symbolize that the can of beans brought Geoff s family together.
Expressing signs of joy as they ate on the dining table. Symbolism could also be found when Geoff s
wife was giving birth. The babies were portrayed as two beans inside their mother s stomach. Instead
of having two embryos. That could also show how the beans brought happiness through Geoff and his
wife s life through ways that are very different from the cans of beans that were portrayed throughout
the advertisement. By using symbolism in their ad. Heinz successfully related to a wide range of

Nietzsche Dionysis Essay
What method does Nietzsche use to become the Dionysian Overman? What perspective on life does
the Overman adopt? How does it enable amor fati and express optimum Yes saying to our present
natural life in the world? How does this overcome slave morality or religion ? Nietzsche uses
acceptance of fate, its obstacles, adversity and also its divinity to become the Dionysian Overman. He
believes by affirming life in both its cruelty and beauty that we can achieve joy in the present without
the need for beliefs in an afterlife or future existences. Nietzsche states the Overman holds a love for

mindset free from societal pressure and preconceived ideals one may become overman and go forth
with a joyful perspective on life. The Overman adopts the perspective that beauty, cruelty, happiness
and sadness despite their definitional differences are to be appreciated all the same. He explains that it
is the obstacles in life that spurn the greatest happiness, it is explained in this Chinese Proverb: The
flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of all. Nietzsche believes that as there
is no adversity in Heaven there can be no such beautiful flowers blooming there (PHIL1087 #4) and
hence no chance for courage, generosity and personal growth. There is hence no chance to adopt a
Dionysian perspective and be at one with all of what is natural, to thence be able to find true
Dionysian virtue. This virtue lies in the acceptance of all that is pleasurable and painful. It then brings
happiness as Nietzsche argues that vice sprouts from disaffection...resentment, spite, from the...lack of
inner power and its joy . As the Overman can hold no sense of resentment, or grudge and through

Optometry Application Essay
My decision to pursue a degree in optometry started from an unlikely source within the field of
healthcare. I originally aspired to become a pharmacist and had extensive experience as a pharmacy
technician throughout high school and the start of college. As I progressed I became more unsure of
the profession, and did not feel as though as if I was making a difference. Patient interaction was
minimal and I felt that having a more personable connection would make for a better healthcare
professional. I always knew I wanted to become a healthcare professional, I just was not sure
pharmacy was the path for me.
What drew me to the field of optometry specifically is the fact that our eyes can be considered one of
our most precious gifts. Growing up my siblings always needed some sort of corrective lenses, leaving
me in the dark so to speak. When I was younger I suffered a corneal ... Show more content on

I have also come to realize that this particular practice focuses more on disease and disease prevention
juxtaposed to only offering refractions and other optical solutions. This type of practice is what
interests me most in the field of optometry. Having extensive experience in the health field, namely
the field of pharmacy, I was unsatisfied with the level of patient interaction and patient care a
pharmacist can convey toward his/her patients. I understand the field of pharmacy is more complex
than that of a local practice and that I may have been in a particular situation, but I wanted to have
more of a connection with those in need. Being able to see patients at the clinic progress through
treatment is what drew me even closer to the field after I started observing. I know the field of
optometry can give me the opportunity to have a direct effect on patients and their ocular health.
Which is why I have never wanted anything more for myself then to have the chance to become an

Teaching Assistant Report
The fascination and interest in text can be kept up with daily reading sessions. This will spark their
interest in decoding words. The teaching assistant will help with these skills including reminding the
child or their alphabet and phonic sounds to assist with decoding. Modelling is a key supporting
method for learning literacy both with speaking and writing words. In reading to children, the teaching
assistant will be showing them how to read fluently and how their voice can help make sense of the
text being read. Hearing modelled reading can lead to an increased interest in reading, an
improvement in vocabulary and more knowledge of the world around them. It is important for
children to read regularly, if not daily. This may be within the school ... Show more content on

Differentiation can be guided by a teaching assistant. The teacher will plan guided reading sessions
where the children are divided into their appropriate reading abilities. During the week, each group
will rotate with the teacher ensuring that the teacher is able to help improve their fluency and
investigation through reading instruction at their own reading levels. In turn, the teaching assistant
will give reading instruction to a separate group who will be working towards questioning the text
they are reading through comprehension. During these sessions, there will be emphasis on speaking
and listening together, and reading and writing together. These sessions also allow additional groups to
work independently, reading at their own specific level. The roles of the teacher and teaching assistant

The Effects of a Tumor on the Family Members Essay
The Effects of a Tumor on the Family Members
A tumor that is specifically in the frontal cortex can cause many changes physically and emotionally
which can affect the way you interact with your family. Some of the functions of the frontal lobe are
attention, abstract thought, problem solving, intelligence, creative thought, initiative inhibition,
judgment, mood, major body movements, bowel and bladder control, memory and reasoning

Denial involves the rejection of even the possibility that this could be happening. Anger involves
feeling upset at the world, the patient, the Doctor etc.
Acceptance is the emotion that includes excepting the situation and remaining hopeful towards the
future. If some family members are having an especially hard time coping with the news, it might be
wise to seek family therapy.
Someone in the family might volunteer to help during the difficult time. The effects of care giving can
be rewarding and stressful. It is important to remember that one person cannot handle everything.
Other family members and friends can assist with even the smallest situations. Attempting to take on
all the responsibilities can lead to burnout or even anger towards the person with the illness. As the
caregiver, venting can be a form of distressing yourself. Discussing ones feelings is imperative, you do
not even have to speak to a professional, you can just speak to good friend (retrieved from

but they just have to listen.

children will notice the differences even if they are very young. Talking to a

Big Pharma Research Paper
Big Pharma: An Unethical Reputation The Pharmaceutical industry has been in the spotlight for
decades due to the fact that they have a reputation for being unethical in its marketing strategies. In
The Washington Post Shannon Brownlee (2008) states, We try never to forget that medicine is for the
people. It is not for the profits. The profits follow. This honorable statement is completely lost in today
s world of pharmaceutical marketing tactics. These tactics are often deceptive and biased. Big Pharma
consistently forgets their moral purpose and focuses primarily on the almighty dollar. Big Pharma is
working on restoring their reputation by reforming their ethical code of conduct.

Big Pharma has not had much say whether or not their ethics code would change. The pharmaceutical
industry is getting a major overhaul of their sales and marketing strategies. The International
Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Associations (IFPMA), started their changes by adding
into their code of ethics and by vowing to publicize all names of companies that wrongfully market
their products. According to an article in Medicine, Health Care, and Philosophy, Badcott (2013)
states, Under the international group s newly revised code of ethics, pharmaceutical representatives
cannot lavish expensive gifts on doctors to influence prescribing practices. Still permitted are lesser
gifts such as pens or stethescopes. In order for a code of ethics to be effective there must be
repercussions when the rules are broken. This seems to be the main issue that Big Pharma is having
trouble with. They made the change in policy, but who is enforcing it? An ethical code is not useful if
they are not effectively implemented and communicated. Badcott (2014) goes on to say, While
PhRMA has no rule to punish violators, the IFPMA pledges to immediately post information about
incidents including the name of the company involved on its Web site. While public shaming is a step
in the right direction for holding the industry accountable, is it enough to make a difference? The

Of Mice And Men Quotes About Lonliness
No one ever said lonliness is a great passtime, our whole is filled with it. We witness it almost
everyday and are, once in a while, affected by it, but never longer than we can bear. However, many
individuals during the Great Depression lived with this unbearable and inescapable lonliness, working
all day and not having anyone but themselves to care for them or to care for. Jhon Stienbeck, the
author of Of Mice and Men, demonstrates that too much lonliness can cause a person to live with the
unbearable pain of knowing that they only have themselves, shown with Candy, Crooks, and Curley s
wife Candy the old swamper showed how seniors were treated during the Great Depression, and how

During the great depression coloured people were highley discriminated. In the book Crooks said, S

loneliness by clearly stating he has nobody. Crooks is the stable buck on the ranch, and completes the
tasks that are too difficult for others to do. He is seen as inferior and is completley unwanted, which
leads to lonliness because no one wants to talk to him. He is never talked to, so he is aloof and lonely
and all he ever wishes for is someone to care for him or just be near him. Another part of the novella
Crooks shows lonliness is , long as you wont get out and leave me alone, you might as well set down.
this quote indicates that Crooks is aloof and unfriendly to white men but, enjoys everyones company.
That is because he is left all alone and never talked to, so he finds great pleassure in the smallest

According to the number on the dice, players move either 1 6 spaces. If they land on a normal square,
they read the writing on the space aloud before obeying the instructions, whether it tells them to lose
or gain points or miss their next turn. If they land on a fortune square, (the large squares in the corner)
they pick up a fortune card, read the quote aloud and then flip it, where the fortune is. If the
background is red, that will mean that you just picked up a good fortune card, but if it is green it will
be bad. Then the player follows the instructions on it, alike to the normal squares where it might be
gaining or loss of points. If the player gains points, and if that means their total equals five they can
place a button on one of the dots leading up to the centre. If not, they simply mark another point on
their tally sheet, which is included in the game. If they lose a point and that means that their total is no
longer five but instead four, they take off their counter and mark on the tally sheet their amount of
points.
Order of turns: The game begins with the player who has rolled the highest amount on the dice. They
move off their fortune square and onto another square. Once all players have moved off of their
starting squares, the fortune squares are in play.

Perception Is A Important Process For Human Beings
Countless data pass through our minds every single moment. Consider about height, colour, size and
even message from actual language or body language, those are information we perceive everyday as
usual. Perception is a very important process for human beings because it is a process that allow us to
experience any data around us such as smell, touch, taste, temperature and so on. (Otara, 2011) As we
perceive things, we collect data, we analyse it and interpret data in our minds in order to give the
reaction back. However, sometimes we might face some situation that we think we already have a
conclusion or outcome to some cases or some particular situations in our mind without receiving all of
the information first. This cognitive process is called bias which means the process of using shortcut
to see the outcome based on personal preferences without using all of information. This is not
unfamiliar process to human beings because this process used to help us in order to survive through
many eras. (Ross, 2011) For instance, you see a black shadow diving to your head so, you duck your
head to avoid it. After that, you see that it s just a bird. (Ross, 2008) Before you duck your head, you
didn t look at it well enough that means you didn t use all of information before react to the situation
also you might face with these experiences before so you know it is safe to avoid at first. However,
your bias is still useful because what if it s not a bird but a heavy object? You could

The Survival Rates Of Breast Cancer
Breast Cancer is the most common misfortune in women and second leading cause of death by cancer.
Today, woman with breast cancer have a 90% chance of surviving for five years post diagnosis.
However, African American women have a national survival rate of 79%. Socioeconomic barriers and
lack of access to health services have crippled African American women in breast cancer
advancements. Studies have show that African American women tend to be diagnosed with a higher
stage of cancer because of the delay of being tested until it is late in the stage. African American
women in contrast to their white counterparts generally have a more aggressive stage of breast cancer

Much advancement has been made for the treatment of breast cancer, yet the object of the matter is its
utilization. Lack of recommendation for screening mammography, poor access to health care and
cultural beliefs discouraging women from seeking care for a potential breast problem have each been
linked to disparate breast cancer outcomes between African American and White women. (American
Association for Cancer Research) Even though race based disparities have been explored in breast
cancer outcomes, direct evidence linking these disparities to social injustice is deficient. Few studies
have been reported examining the correlation between breast cancer disparities and racial
discrimination. Yet, there are evident reasons to suspect that racial prejudice contributes to the African
American disparities in breast cancer mortality. Studies have suggested that social injustice maybe be
linked to unequal access of breast cancer treatment. Caplan et al. reported that, African American
women had greater difficulty scheduling follow up appointments than did White women, which
resulted in delays in breast cancer diagnosis. (AACR) This utilization of treatments illustrates a drastic
and distant mortality rate overtime between White and African American women.

Impact of Foreign Aid on Poverty and Economic Development...
CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION
This project focuses on the poverty profile in Nigeria, the foreign aids given to the nation to help
alleviate poverty and how it affects the economic development of Nigeria. According to the World
Bank website, poverty is hunger. It is lack of shelter. Poverty is being sick and not being able to see a
doctor. It is not being able to go to school, not knowing how to read, and not being able to speak
properly. Poverty is not having a job, and is fear for the future, and living one day at a time. It is losing
a child to illness brought about by unclean water. And lastly, it is powerlessness, lack of representation
and freedom.

By 1996, it was very obvious that urban poverty had become an increasing problem in Nigeria. For
example, the number of people in poverty increased from 27% in 1980 to 46% in 1985. it declined
slightly to 42% in 1992, and increased very sharply to 67% in 1996. In 1999, estimates showed that
over 70% of Nigerians lived in poverty. The government then declared in November 1999 that the 470
billion naira budget for the year 2000 was to relieve poverty.
By 1996, Nigeria had become the 13th poorest country in the world and occupied the 142nd rank on
the human development index (HDI) scale. (World Bank, 1996)
With the reforms, the real growth became positive but there was still a question whether the reform
alleviated poverty; how far poverty was reduced.
Foreign aid is the economic help provided to communities of countries due to the occurrence of a
humanitarian crisis or for the achievement of a socioeconomic objective. There are two types of aids:
Humanitarian aid is the immediate assistance given to individuals, organizations or government for
emergency relief caused by war or natural disasters. Development aid is help given by developed
countries to support economic or social development in developing countries so as to create long term
sustainable economic growth.

Breakfast Is Essential For Children And Adults Alike
Breakfast?
While most people would not consider skipping lunch or dinner, numerous people think nothing of
trying to get through the morning on an empty stomach. In the hustle and bustle of the morning,
breakfast falls last on their list of priorities. Some may even think that a sip of coffee or Redbull will
give them enough energy until lunch. A well balanced breakfast can be a cup of yogurt with granola,
and some fruit, scrambled eggs with toast and orange juice or cream cheese on a whole grain bagel
with orange juice or milk. Eating a well balanced breakfast is essential for children and adults alike
because it provides fundamental nutrients, improves mental and physical health.
The word breakfast was first used in 1463 by an English women, but breakfast was eaten way before
then. Breakfast goes as far back as 7000 B.C. Back then people in the middle east were eating cereals
made out of wheat and barley. The Roman soldiers ate a kind of porridge called pulmentus in the
mornings to strengthen them for battle. Breakfast officially started to be a daily activity for everyday
people in the early 19th century. The English extended breakfast to include 2 courses. The first course
consists of porridge. It is followed by a full English breakfast which includes toast with eggs and
bacon or fish. Later, breakfast expanded to include cold joint of meat, game pies, broiled mackerel,
sausages, bacon and eggs, muffins, toast, marmalade, butter, jam, coffee and tea. Breakfast

Theme Of The Interlopers
Why do we engage in war? Is there ever a significant outcome?Just like the Korean War, the story
Interlopers by Saki, share similar themes and outcomes. In the Interlopers, the author Saki conveys a
theme of don t waste your life on engaging in hatred cause death will follow, using the literary
techniques of situational irony, imagery, and foreshadowing.
Saki has displayed a theme of wasting your life on engaging in hatred because death will follow, by
using the technique of irony. This theme comes into notice when the forresters walk out into the open
to explore. Ulrich and Georg, the forresters, meet eyes in the middle of the open forest. Then, lighting
struck and branches from the trees fall down onto Georg and Ulrich. The hatred turned from each
other onto nature. Hoping that the other is dead, Ulrich shouts I m caught in my own forest land , and
then their was a moment of silence (Saki 8). Georg was silent because he knew that this situation he
got in, is very ironic. They re on their own land but yet trapped and nearing death all because of this
long lasting family feud. Since death is nearing, Georg starts to get into panic mode. He shouts at
Ulrich and says, Death and damnation to you, Ulrich Von Gradwitz , as they were trapped under the
heavy tree branches (Saki 8). Georg didn t mean that in a bad way. He just wanted to make sure that

Death Of A Salesman And The American Dream
The United States in the mid twentieth century was a time of change. In the 1960 s the civil rights and
women s rights were in their embryonic stages. All of these ideas coming together created the illusion
of The American Dream. Back then; the American dream was equated with freedom and material
prosperity, two concepts that ring true today. The definition of the American dream changes as society
in the United States changes, and the connotation and reality of the American Dream is disheartening.
Two literary compositions give a realistic outlook on what the American Dream really is. In Death of a
Salesman and The American Dream, Arthur Miller and Edward Albee masterfully relay the true nature
and ideologies of The American Dream. In theory, the American Dream is the idea that every person
residing in the United States of America should live a richer and fuller life, regardless of the class one
is born in. It is not a dream about cars, high wages, and a picket fence. The idea, for it to work, is
supposed to be that every man and woman in this beautiful country has the ability to gain the highest
class in their ability regardless of their previous background. The ability to achieve such high success
is based on academic success and hard work. In current times, it seems the American Dream has
become a pursuit of material objects. Citizens of the United States work countless hours to be able to
afford bigger cars, better homes, and the newest technologies. On the surface,

The Death Of The Barn
I can still remember the day that my dad made a dream of mine come true. One night my family was
sitting down for supper when my dad said, Oh, and by the way Sarah you can have a goat this
summer. At that point I just looked my dad and laughed. I thought he was joking, I had been asking for
a goat for about three years. He had proclaimed multiple times throughout my childhood that I would
not be getting a goat anytime soon. I guess my time had come. Within a few mouths it was May, I had
set up a wired pen for my goat and could barely contain my excitement as we went to go pick up my
goat.

That day I discovered that goats are very stubborn animals. For five minutes I dragged him around

As time passed and the days grew warmer and longer, Beans and I became better friends. He would let
me pet him when he was in his pen, but when I tried to enter or leave his pen he would attempt to get
out. He never really succeeded until one humid afternoon.
I was feeding Beans and had left the pen to retrieve his ice cold water from the hydrant near the hog
barn. After getting the water I went back to his pen and poured it in the trough. Once I had finished, I
opened the gate, stepped out and tried to get the clunky five gallon pail through the gate. Instead of
getting the pail out, Beans ran out as fast as a cheetah chasing a gazelle. I chased Beans all over the
farm. We weaved in and out of the equipment that had been dormant because planted season had
ended months ago. I ran all over the green knee high tall oat plants in the field, when Beans made the
fatal mistake of running in the inside of the green old rake.
The rake is rectangle shaped with one side open and the other side closed off by a wall of rake spikes.
The rake s butt end rested on the ground, preventing Beans from crawling out. Very carefully I

and picked him up.

through the use of the camera, sound and mis en scene. Also, it will be discussed how each characters

  • 2. Houston s Fine Arts Museum Analysis The Museum of Fine Arts is one of the largest museums in the United States. Walking throughout the museum one will see more than six thousand years of history and about sixty four thousand works from six continents. Houston has one of the largest and most diverse art collection in the Southwestern United States. The main reason behind my museum choice is my love and fascination towards all the different art pieces from around the world. The major focus that can be found at Houston s Fine Arts Museum is informing and teaching many of all ages about the history of art. Also, positioning art and the museum as a meaningful part of a well rounded life. Majority of the Fine Arts Museum collection include the areas of Italian Renaissance painting, ... • 3. Reading And Thought By Dwight Macdonald Reading and Though In Dwight MacDonald s Reading and Though, he disagrees with Henry Luce s Idea of functional curiosity. Luce coined the term functional curiosity, meaning the kind of searching, hungry interest in what is happening everywhere. MacDonald s opinion of functional curiosity is that it only encourages practice in reading rather than giving beneficial information. He considers today s literature as flimsy and overwhelming. MacDonald assumes that all reading done in today s society is shallow thinking. I agree with MacDonald that there is a great amount of mediocre literature floating around, but he does not take into account the technological advancements, the lifestyles of people today, and students. With the new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way media is run justifies MacDonald s argument that people are making things that are, hastily slapped together stuff... and would be foolish to waste much time or effort on writing or reading. All in all technological advancements have made everything more accessible and eventually handicaps people from finding the truth for themselves. Instead society just takes in the information that is spoon fed to them with no thinking required. MacDonald s argument was written in the 1940 s. Now it is the 21st century and his argument hardly applies to how information is processed today. Our society has become a more fast paced and busy lifestyle. Time is something that people do not have to spare. People like instant gratification and that is the same way we like our information. Literature is written in a way to obtain the most information with the least amount of time. Newspapers for example, are purposely written where the first couple of paragraphs give you the gist of what is going on and then the rest is detail. If you are interested in the topic then you would continue reading or you just move on. MacDonald s example of a 16th century man reading today s newspaper is a very flawed argument. Reading is something that only people with money and high social status is able to accomplish. Not only is it restricted to the upper class, but in the 16th century people were mainly farmers, and could not read. Most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Significance of the Title of To Kill a Mockingbird by... The Significance of the Title of To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee The title of this novel is To Kill a Mockingbird and throughout the book the word mockingbird appears several times. The mockingbird is the most significant symbol in the novel. The motif of the story is the innocent creature of the mockingbird. What is a mockingbird? A mockingbird is a type of finch. It is a small plain bird and has a beautiful song. It got its name because its beautiful sing mocks other birds. The mockingbird idea first comes about in chapter 10,when Atticus is telling the children how to use their shotguns. He tells them: Shoot all the blue jays you want, if you can hit em. But remember it s a sin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They haven t done anything wrong and are scared that they may get hurt or something bad may happen when the dog appears. Another time the mockingbird idea comes up is in chapter 21,when everyone is in the court room waiting for the verdict on whether Tom Robinson has been found guilty or not. Scout describes the atmosphere in the courtroom like this: The feeling grew until the atmosphere in the court room was exactly the same as a cold February morning, when the mockingbirds were still and the carpenters had stopped hammering on miss Maudie s new house. I think that when Scout talks about the atmosphere being like a cold February morning she is describing the tension in the room. When everyone is still and silent. When Scout says that the mockingbirds were still I think that she was referring to Atticus and Tom Robinson. I think this because Tom is waiting to see if he has been found guilty or not and Atticus is waiting to see if he has won his case. They are both deadly still and anxious to hear the verdict. They have been regarded as mockingbirds because both Atticus and Tom are innocent characters that have done nothing wrong. Also another place in which the idea of mockingbirds appears is in chapter 25,when Mr Underwood is talking about Tom Robinson s escape and death. He seems very opposed to Tom being shot, as he was a cripple. In the newspaper article he wrote he said ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Looking Back at the OJ Simpson Case The numerous ups, downs, and controversies surrounding the life of former star football player OJ Simpson have led to a strangely divided collective memory of the man. The term collective memory refers to a shared pool of information held in the memories of a group from aggregated individual recollections. The story of OJ Simpson s life is both sad and puzzling after overcoming adversity to become one of the best football players of all time and a public figure beloved by many Simpson would go on to put himself in a worse situation than ever before. Orenthal James Simpson otherwise known as O.J. Simpson or The Juice was born July 9, 1947 in San Francisco, California. O.J. Simpson had a challenging childhood. When O.J. was two years ... OJ Simpson up until this point was well liked figure by the public and why not he was a charismatic NFL legend. Koster et al. focused on the effects that forest fires had over time, on three greenhouse gases. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The biomass and density of trees surrounding each plot were also recorded. A static chamber method was used to measure the fluxes of the three GHG. The method was carried out using a closed cylindrical chamber equipped with a small fan, and gas concentrations were measured with an infrared, non dispersive scope. There were other more detailed, accurate methods used as well to be more accurate with exact numbers for the concentrations of each gas. The concentrations of each gas were compared between each location and results are as follows: As the thickness of the active layer increased, all three greenhouse gas emissions increased. Carbon dioxide fluxes increased with time since the last fire, with the 1969 fire area having the highest CO2 emissions, and the 2012 fire area having the lowest CO2 emissions. Methane fluxes had a significant increase in the 1990 fire area, and a lower influx in all other fire areas. Nitrous oxide had a high influx in every fire area except for the 1990 area, where the fluxes were significantly lower. Addressed in the discussion, the authors write about how their results indicate that areas affected by fire will take approximately 50 years to fully recover to their pre fire conditions. As well, areas with a recent fire had much lower soil moisture than areas with a long time since last ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Define Drug Trafficking Assignment #6 Discuss the production and trafficking of drugs i.e., heroin, cocaine, and crack, and how the trafficking relates to the criminal enterprise. Discuss the criminal justice systems role in the fight against drugs. Cocaine, crack, and heroin are three of the most abused illegal drugs in the United States. There are some forms of cocaine that are used for medicinal purposes. Cocaine is shipped from South America by drug cartels, mainly from Peru, Bolivia and Colombia. Drug cartels (coalitions or agreements between parties intended to further a mutual interest). Drug cartels handle the trafficking of the drug to one of its biggest customers, the United States. Heroin is an opioid drug that is manufactured from morphine. The heroin is extracted from the Asian opium poppy plant. It is believed that 24 percent of people who use heroin become addicted (dependency on a substance) and they cannot stop using it without adverse affects either psychologically or physiologically. Crack, or rock is more addictive than powder cocaine and heroin. Robin Haslam (2013), Director of Operations and Procedures for Addiction Canada, said that he has never seen someone who can just smoke crack casually. The camps were tremendously ruthless. The epidemics that broke out in the camps, including the awful living conditions were very diverse mainly during the years that the camps operated. They were also uniquely contrasting in each different camp. Whereas many other conditions such as, executions, hard labor, etc. had a great effect of death of the children, some conditions were worse than others causing the children to pass away real quick. Medical experiments and living conditions had the greatest effect of death of children in the Nazi work camps during WWII. Not only were the children involuntarily used for medical experiments they were also forced to live in brutal living conditions. Children died very easily because of how they were being treated. They became very weak. They were not fed the right amount of calories and were not treated properly. Feeding the prisoners in the concentration camps was a big issue during the holocaust. In contemporary organizations where globalization and multi national companies are becoming more popular, management requires flexibility in how to handle different issues and manage each employee. Each of the approaches were practiced commonly in the past, however in the modern day, organizations must incorporate each management approach to different business situations and work environments. Weber describes this advantage of bureaucracies as the capability of attaining the highest degree of efficiency since employees have knowledge of who handles which issues and employees are also highly trained in their routine responsibilities (Schermerhorn et al. 2014). Alan Marsden shows another advantage of bureaucracy through its use in banks, where the impersonal employee behavior gives customers a sense of equality and the formal rules in place prevent larger issues such as banks over borrowing (Marsden 2009). However due to the strict procedures, when larger issues occur, the bureaucratic approach causes delays to communicate to higher executives on how to solve issues. • 10. Negative Effects Of Sexism Eradication of Sexism Sexism is another social problem troubling human societies all over the world. Though the roots of sexism are a lot less broad when compared to racism (when taking into account there are only two flexible, recognizable human sexes), there is still a large amount of conflict surrounding the social problems between men and women. If one might not know sexism (or gender discrimination) is prejudice or discrimination based on a person s sex or gender. Sexism is something that can be affected by anyone. It has been effective mostly in history as well as the present, which has predominantly targeted many women and girls. As many people believed in Laurel Ulrich s quote Well behaved women seldom make history meant women who behave themselves as women should, rarely make history. This quote is accurate because each woman who made history had to portray themselves in a terrible manner or behave badly at some point in time to get there point across or make themselves significant . The eradication of sexism needs to be enforced because sexism creates disadvantages towards women in the world, substantially in the workplace. Sexism allows the development of negative emotions in young girls and women, and it impacts the self perception of men. I would like to change the issue of sexism towards women in our society. This conflict troubles societies around the country in several ways, and taking several forms. Sexism is a recurring problem in our country that has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The other imperative that Kant talks about is the categorical imperative; wish is known to be the right one. Categorical, or unqualified, imperatives are the right kind of imperatives, because they show proper recognition of the imperial status of moral obligation (pg. 128). Kant named it, categorical imperatives (CI), which according to Kant is a strategy for control of morality in any course of movement. The CI consists of a couple steps that I will explain below: First step is to find a maxim, which is also known to be the general rule. Meaning, say you were in the spirit to help someone who was in need. The maxim would be to help the person, but to have no load of weight on your shoulders by helping them. The second step consists to see if the maxim affects everyone. If the steps can be made available, then we obtain the maxim, and it is considered to be moral. If they are not ... Teleological contradiction is where the top most couldn t be able to work in a functioning manner lawfully in a well regulated system of nature. The third one Kant mentioned was the practical contradiction, where my activity wouldn t be affective in trying to achieve motivation, if everyone wanted to use if for that same purpose. Kant illustrates how the CI principle of the law of nature works by applying it to each of these maxims (pg.130). If they land on a normal square, they read the writing on the space aloud before obeying the instructions, whether it tells them to lose or gain points or miss their next turn. If they land on a fortune square, (the large squares in the corner) they pick up a fortune card, read the quote aloud and then flip it, where the fortune is. If the background is red, that will mean that you just picked up a good fortune card, but if it is green it will be bad. Then the player follows the instructions on it, alike to the normal squares where it might be gaining or loss of points. If the player gains points, and if that means their total equals five they can place a button on one of the dots leading up to the centre. If not, they simply mark another point on their tally sheet, which is included in the game. If they lose a point and that means that their total is no longer five but instead four, they take off their counter and mark on the tally sheet their amount of points. • 27. Perception Is A Important Process For Human Beings Countless data pass through our minds every single moment. Consider about height, colour, size and even message from actual language or body language, those are information we perceive everyday as usual. Perception is a very important process for human beings because it is a process that allow us to experience any data around us such as smell, touch, taste, temperature and so on. (Otara, 2011) As we perceive things, we collect data, we analyse it and interpret data in our minds in order to give the reaction back. However, sometimes we might face some situation that we think we already have a conclusion or outcome to some cases or some particular situations in our mind without receiving all of the information first. This cognitive process is called bias which means the process of using shortcut to see the outcome based on personal preferences without using all of information. This is not unfamiliar process to human beings because this process used to help us in order to survive through many eras. (Ross, 2011) For instance, you see a black shadow diving to your head so, you duck your head to avoid it. After that, you see that it s just a bird. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much advancement has been made for the treatment of breast cancer, yet the object of the matter is its utilization. Lack of recommendation for screening mammography, poor access to health care and cultural beliefs discouraging women from seeking care for a potential breast problem have each been linked to disparate breast cancer outcomes between African American and White women. (American Association for Cancer Research) Even though race based disparities have been explored in breast cancer outcomes, direct evidence linking these disparities to social injustice is deficient. Few studies have been reported examining the correlation between breast cancer disparities and racial discrimination. Yet, there are evident reasons to suspect that racial prejudice contributes to the African American disparities in breast cancer mortality. Studies have suggested that social injustice maybe be linked to unequal access of breast cancer treatment. Caplan et al. reported that, African American women had greater difficulty scheduling follow up appointments than did White women, which resulted in delays in breast cancer diagnosis. (AACR) This utilization of treatments illustrates a drastic and distant mortality rate overtime between White and African American women. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Death Of A Salesman And The American Dream The United States in the mid twentieth century was a time of change. In the 1960 s the civil rights and women s rights were in their embryonic stages. All of these ideas coming together created the illusion of The American Dream. Back then; the American dream was equated with freedom and material prosperity, two concepts that ring true today. The definition of the American dream changes as society in the United States changes, and the connotation and reality of the American Dream is disheartening. Two literary compositions give a realistic outlook on what the American Dream really is. In Death of a Salesman and The American Dream, Arthur Miller and Edward Albee masterfully relay the true nature and ideologies of The American Dream. In theory, the American Dream is the idea that every person residing in the United States of America should live a richer and fuller life, regardless of the class one is born in. It is not a dream about cars, high wages, and a picket fence. The idea, for it to work, is supposed to be that every man and woman in this beautiful country has the ability to gain the highest class in their ability regardless of their previous background. The ability to achieve such high success is based on academic success and hard work. In current times, it seems the American Dream has become a pursuit of material objects. Citizens of the United States work countless hours to be able to afford bigger cars, better homes, and the newest technologies. On the surface, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One night my family was sitting down for supper when my dad said, Oh, and by the way Sarah you can have a goat this summer. At that point I just looked my dad and laughed. I thought he was joking, I had been asking for a goat for about three years. He had proclaimed multiple times throughout my childhood that I would not be getting a goat anytime soon. I guess my time had come. Within a few mouths it was May, I had set up a wired pen for my goat and could barely contain my excitement as we went to go pick up my goat. He would let me pet him when he was in his pen, but when I tried to enter or leave his pen he would attempt to get out. He never really succeeded until one humid afternoon. I was feeding Beans and had left the pen to retrieve his ice cold water from the hydrant near the hog barn. After getting the water I went back to his pen and poured it in the trough. Once I had finished, I opened the gate, stepped out and tried to get the clunky five gallon pail through the gate. Instead of getting the pail out, Beans ran out as fast as a cheetah chasing a gazelle. I chased Beans all over the farm. We weaved in and out of the equipment that had been dormant because planted season had ended months ago. I ran all over the green knee high tall oat plants in the field, when Beans made the fatal mistake of running in the inside of the green old rake. The rake is rectangle shaped with one side open and the other side closed off by a wall of rake spikes. The rake s butt end rested on the ground, preventing Beans from crawling out.
