3. Longboarding
Longboarding is an offshoot of street skating, but, like all board sports, its roots lie in surfing.
Developed as a single sport on the west coast in the 1950s, by the 1990s, Longboards and
Skateboards branched off into their respective disciplines. With the right setup, a longboard can
give the feeling of surfing on hard smooth surfaces. There are a variety of riding styles: downhill,
cruising and carving, slalom, dancing, freeriding, vert and sliding.[citation needed]
A longboard generally can be as short or as long as the rider desires; the most popular range is
about 36 to 60 inches. As well as being usually longer than a standard skateboard, longboards may
also be equipped with larger, softer wheels which afford a smoother ride. ... Show more content on

Wider trucks with lower pivot angles (to increase stability at the expense of turning capability)
may be used as well as axle bearings that rotate independently of wheel bearings to further
increase top speed. (Note; this theory is disputed and many people believe that axle bearings are
not beneficial to speed, but are beneficial in the rare case of bearing failure[citation needed]). A
new type of downhill truck was invented by Jim Ziemlanski of Coquitlam, British Columbia,
Canada that incorporates the use of a spherical bearing on the kingpin which allows the hanger to
pivot on a precise axis without any of the slop caused by bushings compressing under the weight of
the rider. Downhill longboarders sometimes use leather suits and streamlined helmets to protect
themselves as well as reduce aerodynamic drag.
Variations of setups include:
Drop Decks are characterized by a riding platform that is lower than the mounting point of the
trucks. This configuration is more stable (less susceptible to wobbling) and easier to control
during a slide, but sacrifices traction and turning capabilities due to the board s lowered center of
gravity and decreased leverage over the trucks. Examples of this style of board include: Landyachtz
DH Race, Landyachtz Switch, and the Rayne Nemesis.
Drop through Decks have holes machined between the truck mounting hardware so that the
baseplate can be mounted to the top of the board. This is probably the most popular method of

pipe, and tell stories. He receives his call to adventure when Gandalf shows up and asks him to

Locus of Control and Explanatory Style
The University of Pennsylvania website, Authentic Happiness, was developed by the Positive
Psychology Center with the purpose of providing free resources where people can learn about
Positive Psychology (Authentic Happiness). Positive Psychology, according to the Positive
Psychology Center, is the scientific study of the strengths that enable individuals and communities
to thrive. The field is founded on the belief that people want to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives,
to cultivate what is best within themselves, and to enhance their experiences of love, work, and
play. The Optimism Test and Satisfaction with Life Scale are two questionnaires offered on the
website. The Optimism Test measures optimism about the future and the Satisfaction with Life
Scale measures life satisfaction (Authentic Happiness). The purpose of taking these tests is to
examine the similarities and differences I have with my peers, whether or not if I am in
agreement with the scores and determine if there is a correlation between the scores of each
test. The Satisfaction with Life Scale was developed to assess satisfaction with people s lives as
a whole. The scale does not assess satisfaction with specific life domains, such as health or
finances, but allows subjects to integrate and weigh these domains in whatever way they choose
(Positive Psychology Center). The score range for the test is 5 to 35. My overall score of 24 is an

6. Comparing Daoism And Confucianism
While Daoism and Confucianism are of two different strains of thought they often flow in the same
way like two parallel rivers in governance in aspects of life, in practice the two systems are often
flow be each other to some degree but never interconnect at any points. Confucianism deals with
social matters, while Taoism concerns itself with the search for meaning. They share common
beliefs about man, society, and the universe, although these notions were around long before either
philosophy. Confucianismand Daoism are the two most influential philosophies in China both

According to Confucius, each person should act with virtue in all social matters; family,
community, state, and kingdom, to ensure order and unity. Man s virtue in all its forms is called

ideal ruler and government do not interfere in the lives of the people and lead them to prosperity of
primitive simplicity by nonaction and focuses on intuitive spontaneity. It is civilization that has
corrupted humanity from its early state of innocence but realistically as a person or society lives
and ages there is no such thing as innocence as one must grow and learn. The sage practices
nonaction, gives up worldly ambitions, and lives a simple life in accord with nature though that one
does. The dedication to right relationships and a solid social order contrast directly with the inner
direct intuition of Taoism. While both philosophies of Confucianism and Taoism may end up with
the same result in having a healthy society, one is taught and can culminate in results while the
other is impeded by environmental variables and through inaction and exclusiveness may cause

7. Analysis Of The New 2015 Budweiser Lost Puppy
Budweiser Lost Puppy This is an analysis of the new 2015 Budweiser Lost Puppy commercial
ad. This ad was interesting, the speaker is obviously Budweiser; however, typical beer ads would
focus on American audiences over the age of 21. The commercial has no spoken language so it
can apply to any language and any country as long as the same kind of values demonstrated
visually are shared. The audienceis not as broad as beer drinkers; maybe it s a specific kind of beer
drinkers as well. Perhaps one who has affection for puppies? One who buys into the classic
American dream style image of sharing a cold brew with a buddy next to your dog and horse. If that
sounds nice to you, you re their target audience. Their purpose is obviously simple; sell more
beer. But the way they have all wrapped it up is interesting. It begins with a Caucasian male,
maybe an American in his 30 s, wearing a hat saying Budweiser. This scene says multiple things
about Budweiser, Budweiser is for hard workers, Budweiser is for cowboys, etc. Then in the next
scene a puppy suddenly emerges from a haystack, from that moment the audience becomes attached
to the puppy. It turns into an emotional commercial in that moment where the puppy pops out of
the haystack. That puppy that we ve become attached to runs outside since it s typical for a little
puppy to be curious, and that horse gives him a little neigh so that continuous to foster the
relationship between the two animals. These two have

on the morning of the first day, Lily s observations showed that she was: tachycardic, hypotensive,
tachypnoeaic, had an oxygen saturation level of 88% and was becoming confused and drowsy. It
became apparent that Lily had become hypovolaemic. The hypovolaemic shock seen in this patient

Lily had only recently began dialysis treatment, and her unwillingness to proceed with treatment
would have resulted in her care becoming palliative, something the healthcare professional did not
think was suitable at this point in her illness trajectory. Tait (2012) points out that a critically ill
patient experiences not only physiological trauma, but also psychological trauma. This
psychological trauma that can be experienced after critical care has been addressed by the National
Outreach Forum (2003) who suggested that services should be developed to address the
implications of critical illness. Samuelson (2011) suggests that any negative emotions associated
with critical care can be counterbalanced with memories that reinforce safety, control and trust. This
is a useful point to consider in Lily case, who fortunately had the time to talk through her worries
concerning continual dialysis treatment with the staff on the ward, who were able to convince her
she was in the safest possible hands and that continuing her dialysis treatment would be the best
option.
The psychosocial impact of this event and its repercussions surrounding Lily unwillingness to
continue her dialysis treatment is a key aspect to consider when looking at involving Lily in the
decision making process. The DOH document No decision about me, without me (2012)

11. Analysis Of Pablo Neruda
In most cases, texts that are translated lose meaning, as sometimes words from a native language
cannot be translated exactly into a desired language, or they lose context. World literature
translations also lead to the dangers of a single story where you only get to read one side of the
story (the one of the author) without having a perspective of the natives about the story that was
written. To understand, how language is used in world literature, and how text translations change
our understanding and meaning of the text, we need to be able to understand the culture, have
historical understanding of the time the literary work was written, and factors that might affect
society in which the author had written. When one wants to study world literature, they need to
consider that translations of the text smooths out not only linguisticsrichness but also the original
and political force a work can have in its original context. World literature needs to be studied
with close attention to the original language and context, including works that have new meaning
and take new dimensions abroad. There is a shift that unfolds on the internal logic of the work
itself, but often come as complex dynamic of cultural change and contestation. For a work to be

As a frozen product, ice cream is often related to environmental issue. As Gwanpua (2015) points

In contrast, the citizenship emphasizes people s social and ecological responsibility. Consumers are
supposed to be concerned with the environmental sustainability when they are consuming.
To begin with, Ben Jerry s focuses more on their sourcing than the ecological sustainability. The
company feels honored that the ingredients of their ice creams are from across the country. For
instance, they emphasize that the nuts in Rainforest Crunch ice cream are supplied from native
peoples of the Amazon (Mirvis, 1994). Only five percent of the nuts are from local farms
(Murray, 2015). Peaches are purchased from a Georgia peach growers co operative, cherries are
from Pacific Northwest and wild blueberries are from Native American tribes in Maine (Mirvis,
1994). The chocolate brownies used in ice cream sandwiches are shipped from Greystone Bakeries,
a small business run by Buddhist monks. However, Freeman (2010) suggests that eating more local
and organic food is a more environmentally efficient way to achieve the sustainability of nature
(Freeman, 2010). Henderson (2009) also indicates that discouraging the wasteful long distance
transportation of food supplies and favoring local farming communities contribute to environmental
protection (Henderson, 2009). After all, long distance and processed foods are connected to
unsustainable cereal monocultures and production of greenhouse gases (Shrybman

In today s world, Law Enforcement polices society twenty four hours a day seven days a week.
Society expects ... the police to serve their community and discharge their legal authority within
the boundaries of the law (Ross, 382). Who polices the very people society had entrusted with
such legal power over them? In the world of technology there is a product that is moving to the
forefront to answer this question. Body cameras, this technology if used will allow rarely seen

14. Analysis Of The Book Opens With Carruthers
The novel opens with Carruthers, a British Foreign Office employee, recalling the many invitations
extended to him during his stay in London. Unfortunately, in his arrogance, the man turned down
the majority of invitations, only to find himself with nowhere to go. This pushes Carruthers to
consider the unappealing invitation of his old acquaintance Davies. Davies has invited Carruthers
on a yachting journey filled with sailing and duck hunting, across the North Seaand into the Baltic,
towards the Frisian Islands, right off the coast of Germany. Carruthers arrives to find a rather
small vessel with no crew present. He quickly realizes that this is no relaxing vacation after all.
While Davies shows him the ropes, Carruthers tries his best to help sail the Ducibella. As they
travel across the sea, they encounter beautiful scenery and even other sailors. Eventually, Davies
tells Carruthers about his previous journey through the Frisian Islands. He reveals that a German
barge yacht, owned by a man named Dollmann, had baited the Ducibella onto a shoal in a
troublesome sea that surely would have caused the small yacht to perish, if not for a small channel
and the Bartels. Davies finishes his story in a mode of inquiry; he cannot figure out the motivation
behind Dollmann s behavior. He comes to the conclusion that Dollmann must be an Englishman
and a spy, due to his actions, looks, and Davies analyses of the channels. Davies proceeds to lay
out Dollmann s possible route and tells

15. Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility in the Music...
Since the music industry is quite diverse it is consequently impacted by a great number of ethical
issues. The issues span across the production side to the consumptions side of music. They issues
deal with things as inconsequential as lip syncing to the breaking of laws when stealing music.
Although there are a lot of different areas that can be examined within the industry, the most
important ethical issues fall under the category of compensation.
The first major aspect of compensation is in regard to royalties. Royalties are defined as an amount
of money that is paid to the original creator of a product, book, or piece of music based on how
many copies have been sold according to Webster s dictionary. Artists... Show more content on

The question then became Just because we can get the music we want without paying for it,
should we? (Tyson, 2000, p.1). This issue of illegal downloads, which is also referred to as
piracy, has been a hot topic ever since the introduction of Napster. According to Recording
Industry Association of America In the decade since peer to peer (p2p) file sharing site Napster
emerged in 1999, music sales in the U.S. have dropped 47 percent, from $14.6 billion to $7.7
billion (RIAA, 2014).
When people illegally download music they are robbing the artists of royalties. The fact that
people are increasingly stealing music begs a further question of how slippery this slope is. Will
the music industry stop making money altogether because people can just find a way to get their
music illegally? While this is the far extreme it is important to note the far reaching implications
of what this could mean for the industry. Striking losses of profits would cripple artists and
everyone involved in producing or distributed the music. An example of how the music industry
is losing profits on royalties is evident with the declining us of CDs. Today, the CD is becoming
an outdated and inferior product that only true fans of an artist will seek out. Another example is
when music is being purchased legally online. When consumers purchase online music it is almost
always going to be a lower cost. As a consumer, you have the option to just buy the songs you like.

The main political factor that would influence the success of Scooterino in a particular economy is
state regulations concerning ridesharing business. Specifically, the more regulations there are in a

Scooterino in that economy.
What is interesting in this analysis is that the four cities under consideration Berlin, London, Madrid
and Paris are, naturally, all parts of the EU political and legal framework. It is worth noting that
one of the biggest names in a ridesharing business Uber has faced considerably more obstacles on
its rise to prominence in Europe, compared to the United States, where it originated. As it appears,
in Europe, traditional modes of transportation business prove to be a bigger resistance towards ride

One of the major factors deciding whether a ridesharing business will sustain in the long run is the
corruption level in a particular economy. Specifically, the higher the corruption level is, the easier
it would be for competing businesses to using various bribing schemes to enforce a ban on your
business. In the case of a ridesharing platform, the ban might be initiated in the interest of taxi
industry, and such cases are outlined further in the section dedicated to analysis of legal factors.
While there is no evidence to suggest that bans on ridesharing sector are caused solely by corrupt
state officials, in certain cases it is virtually to impossible to identify other reasons for restrictive
legislative acts. The more corrupt the particular state is, the easier it is for a particular lobbying
company to enforce legislative acts that would limit their competitors

The Battle of Waterloo and its Effect on Today s Artillery
Napoleon Bonaparte, one of the world s greatest military strategists, led the French at the Battle of
Waterloo. During his time as a General, even in defeat, his tactics in the way he used artillery were
beyond reproach. His successes and errors made throughout the Battle of Waterloohad a direct
effect on how we use artillery today.
The Battle of Waterloo, which took place on 18 June 1815, was the final battle of the Napoleonic
wars and ended Napoleon s reign as emperor. The French marched into Belgium with 70,000 troops
and 256 artillery pieces (Stevenson, n.d.). They were met by the British Army led by, the Duke of
Wellington, Arthur Wellesly. Combined with its allies (Germans, Belgians, Dutch, and Prussians),
the British Army consisted of 67,000 troops and 156 artillery pieces.
Napoleon s greatest strength was the use of artillery, but with the heavy rain preceding the battle, he
worried that the muddy battlefield would restrict his artillery from advancing. This led to a fatal
miscalculation he decides not to attack until midday, in an attempt to allow the battlefield to dry.
The delay, would allow Marshal Blucher s Prussian Army enough time to join the fight.
Napoleon starts the battle by bringing up 74 artillery pieces and begins bombarding the British with
canon fire. They sweep and zone the battlefield with 3000 rounds over 30 minutes. To counteract
the artillery fire, Duke Wellington

22. International Mathematics And Science Study
Many students in the United States are not ready to compete in a society that demands critical
thinking, the ability to problem solve, and to work with others (Team Pennsylvania Foundation,
2011). Team Pennsylvania Foundation has reported sub par performance on state mandated high
school assessments suggesting that our classroom instruction lacks the rigor required to ensure
student success on these exams (2011). In 1957, the launch of Sputnik marked the need for the
United Statesto take a serious look at the educationprovided to its children (Powell, 2007). The next
30 years ushered a renewed emphasis on mathematics and science in schools across the country.
Focus centered on systemic changes to curriculum and improving instructional techniques. Schools
increased expectations to meet the realized needs of a nation ready to take the next technological
step (Thomas, 2013).
Nearly 40 years later, the effectiveness of the United States educational system again came into
question. The launch of the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) in
1995 measured student performance in mathematics and literacy worldwide. Twelfth grade students
in the United States ranked among the lowest in the world (Schmidt, 2012). While the United States
demonstrated growth ranking in the top 36%, just 9 years later many of the countries that
participated in the first study chose not to participate in the follow up study. Schmidt (2012)

23. The Would Be Gentleman And The Marriage Of Figaro
The focus of this paper will be to compare and contrast the works of two playwrights. The works
that will be considered are MoliГЁre s The Would Be Gentleman and Beaumarchais s The
Marriage of Figaro. Both considered comedies, Moliere s is a short play that tells the tale of
Monsieur Jourdain, a tradesman who desires to become a gentleman. Beaumarchais s play,
second in the Figaro trilogy, follows the series of event prior to Figaro s wedding. Figaro and his
companions scheme to ensure that his marriage occurs smoothly. Furthermore, the plays are dated
100 years apart from each other, and they deal with the representation of social hierarchy, social
mobility, and gender roles in various ways. With that in mind, they become good sources to
compare and contrast the changes in society that occurred within those 100 years. This paper will
compare both plays to examine how MoliГЁrefurther endorses the social values and ideas of his
time, while Beaumarchais s presents a shift in attitude towards those values and challenges them.
Before delving into the analysis, it is important to establish some context of the time that
MoliГЁre s The Would Be Gentleman was first performed. The play was first performed in 1670,
which would have occurred during the reign of Louis XIV. As the editor of this collection
establishes in the introduction, one of MoliГЁre s main audiences was the King. Considering the
King was a main spectator, what tastes would you need to please in order to satisfy the

24. Global Flow of Silver Dbq Essays
The global flow of silver managed to redefine the social structure in many societies, as well as
dramatically altered the basis of the economy in many European and Asian countries. Despite the
economic change that came from the mass production of silver and its use as a standard currency,
the growth of the silverindustry brought as much change socially and culturally as it brought
economic transformation. Many people viewed the conversion to silver being the standardized
currency as a huge hindrance to their daily lives, but the silver industry brought wealthto many
societies and became a necessity in trade. On one side of things, the flow of silver throughout the

Documents 3,5,6, 7 and 8 all mention how the economy changed dramatically due to the arrival
and growth of silver as a currency. In document 3, a Ming dynasty court official writes about
how the silver coin is hard to come by because the government is hoarding all of it. They take
silver for taxes but do not redistribute it to the people. He is writing this because he is trying to
convince the emperor to distribute the silver more appropriately to the people, and because his
family is obviously not doing well financially. He is a court official who most likely has small
influence in the government and writes in hopes of getting the emperor to consider spreading the
wealth to the lower classes of China, to save his family, and other families like his. Document 5
expresses a different, but somewhat related view about how silver has become a hindrance to
regular business interactions, because customers can no longer trade items of their own to
purchase goods, they have to go through a lengthy process to pay everything in silver. Document 6
shows a counter point of view about the wealth that the mining of silver has brought to Spain.
Document 7 is a report written to convince the emperor of China that there is much wealth to be
found in foreign trade, because of how much silver some countries will pay for Chinese goods.
Finally, document 8 examines how European countries are able to purchase Asian commodities
freely because of their immense supply

Throughout almost all of act 1 Romeo is heartbroken over Rosaline, until he sees Juliet. Laying
his eyes on Juliet, Romeo says Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear! (Act 1, Scene 5) saying
that Juliet was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen.
Furthermore, Romeo and Juliet s love changes their personalities, which further contributes to
the theme of love within the story. At the beginning of the play, Juliet is a young girl who is
very faithful to her family, and compliant to her elders. This is exemplified in Act 1, Scene 3
when Juliet is called by the nurse and comes forth at once saying How Now! Who calls? and
also when she refers to her mother as Madam . When Juliet meets Romeo, however, her
faithfulness to her family is no longer the most important thing to her. Juliet s family, the
Capulet s, and Romeo s family, the Montagues are foes, so the mere fact that Juliet would even
associate with a Montague, let alone fall in love, shows her loss of devotion to the family.
Meeting Romeo also helps Juliet to mature, she changes from being passive and not wanting to
love a man, to being in love and wanting to start a relationship. My only love, sprung from my
only hate. (Act 1, Scene 5) Romeo is also matured by the relationship between him and Juliet.
Romeo s first love towards Rosaline is lustful love but when Romeo meets Juliet, it is true,
passionate love that Romeo is looking for.

26. Challenges Facing Argentina Offers Its Residents Free...
Summary of Opportunities and Challenges Argentina offers its residents free tuition at its public
institutions. While this incentive may seem wonderful for the citizens of Argentina, it has also
created multiple issues. Economic hardship has exacerbated these issues. The tuition free and open
admission policies, while offering students a chance at success, have left the higher education
institutions broken as faculty were not being paid appropriately, this has since changed, but little
funds are being dedicated to research and development.
Higher education institutions in Argentina have long fought for autonomy. Under the 1918 reform
of Cordoba, GarcГa de Fanelli (2007) writes that students argue for a self governing university with
the participation of students, professors, and alumni on university councils, (p. 573). In addition to
this reform, the Catholic Church had a strong influence on higher education institutions in 1958.
The church supported the privatization of institutions within the country, GarcГa de Fanelli (2007)
writes that growth of the private sector has gone hand in hand with an increase in the number of
public and private institutions, (p. 573). These institutions include professional programs as well as
vocational schools.
Argentina, under these autonomous institutions, has the highest higher education gross enrollment
rate in the region 48% in 1999 2000 and a top female tertiary gross enrollment ratio of 60%, (p.

27. The Detrimental Effects of Concussions
In recent years concussions have become more and more of a topic due to their effects on the
people who receives them. Concussions can cause a multitude of problems for a person later in
their life whether they suffered from a major concussion or just a minor concussion. These
problems can occur if a person ended up with multiple concussions over a lifetime or if they only
have had one single concussion The problems a person can encounter are all somewhat connected
but very diverse at the same time. Most of the problems a person will encounter will be due to a
change in that person s brainbut they can range from simple memory problems to suicidal problems.
The problem with concussions are that not everybody takes them serious enough. Some people
like football players will just blow it off. After taking a big hit and barely being able to get to the
sidelines they will be right back in the game on the next possession. Others like coaches might not
take a player s concussion serious because they know without that player they might not be able to
win thus putting the players long term health into effect. Concussions are very devastating and
cause many people future problems no matter what some doctors say.
The brain is an organ that is essential to everything people do. Whether it is remembering
something or just talking to someone the brain is in charge of it. So when a person takes a blow

studies show that as of 2016 43 percent of Americans read online books, magazines, or

country. They believe that tablets would be more effective for learning purposes and improve
standardized testing. In the U.S over 8 billion dollars are spent on outdated textbooks each year.
Replacing textbooks with tablets will benefit students in and outside the classroom.
The K 12 system has shown that switching to tablets instead of textbooks will lower the cost spent
on outdated textbooks by $250 $1000 a year per student. The textbook industry is made up of three

30. Social Entrepreneurship And Social Innovation
Social Entrepreneurship The term social entrepreneurship first appeared in the scholarly literature
over 35 years ago in a publication titled The Sociology of Social Movements (Banks,1972).
However, Social entrepreneurship has its origins in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries when
philanthropic business owners and industrialists like Robert Owen, demonstrated a concern for the
welfare of employees by improving their working, schooling and cultural lives. Since then, social
entrepreneurship has been associated with community enterprise and development, education,
churches, charities, the not for profit sector and voluntary organisations. (Shaw Carter, 2007) Dees
(1998) defined social entrepreneurship as the production of social value by individuals with: A
mission to create and sustain social value, as change agents in the social sector; The relentless
pursuit of new opportunities to serve that mission; A commitment to the process of continuous
innovation, adaptation, and learning; The readiness to act boldly without being limited by
resources currently in hand; Heightened accountability to the constituencies served and for the
outcomes created (Light, 2009). This definition lays emphasis on the need to produce social value
by instilling various behaviours and attitudes on an individualistic level. Dees has accurately
defined the exact characteristics of general entrepreneurial behaviour in the definition. I feel that

We are living in an era where technology is evolving at an exponential rate. Not long ago, when
in need of driving directions, we pulled out a large folded street map from our vehicle s glove

Better yet, rather than visiting the local discount mart to replace our laundry detergent, we tell
Alexa to reorder it and have it shipped directly to our door. Throughout the day, we use technology
to routinely accomplish specific tasks or obtain information.
Even the simplest human actions performed for centuries, such as reading, have been made easier

human capabilities beyond what we ever imagined 20 or 30 years ago. It is very apparent that
Technology has made human life better, by improving communications with each other, and
healthier by improving the diagnosis and treatment of illness.

In Edgar Allan Poe s The Murders in the Rue Morgue , a crucial statement is declared about how

Then, the Ourang Outang realizes his faults and tries to conceal then, as would any man,

34. The Monkey s Paw Character Analysis
The Monkey s Paw by W. W. Jacobs and The Third Wish by Joan Aiken are similar stories
because of their characters, and contrasting stories because of the wishes. The characters both
receive wishes in a similar way, but the main characters use their wishes in different ways. First,
I will be comparing the ways the main characters receive their wishes. In The Monkey s Paw Mr.
White receives his wishes from Sergeant Major Morris, who sells The Monkey s Paw to Mr.
White. Sergeant Major Morris warns Mr. White about the paw and says the first person wished
for death on their third wish. In The Third Wish Mr. Peters was driving his car at dusk, hearing a
faint cry, so he stops his car. Then he enters the woods beside him to investigate the noise,
finding a white swan trapped in a thorny bush, and Mr. Peters decides to rescue the swan, but it
pecks and hisses at him. Eventually Mr. Peters saves the swan and it floats away, but then a little
man wearing green clothes and a golden crown appears and grants Mr. Peters 3 wishes. Next, I
will be contrasting the differences between the way the characters use their wishes. I think Mr.
White uses his wishes in a curious kind of way because he isn t really sure whether The Monkey s

To the average American teenager, high school may have seemed like a real life nightmare. So
why is it that so many movies today revolve around this hellish concept? According to David

these teen films. As explained by Denby, such genre films include stereotypical male and female
villains of the social queen or jock type, mixed up emotions and teens rising above the poisonous
system of status, snobbery and exclusion that is commonly known as high school(Denby 367). By

However, for the majority or teens, there is a considerable amount of teen angst that comes from
this emotional growth. When depicted in movies, Denby explains that these films arise from
remembered hurts which then get recast in symbolic form. (Denby 369). In Denby s example,
the main character may have suffered from the death of a parent and thus is ill equipped for the
emotional pressures of school. (Denby 369). This can be seen to be incredibly true for the main
character of The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Through out the film, there are memories brought
up from Charlie s past about his best friend s suicide, his Aunt s Death, and his past sexual abuse.
For example, when Sam kisses Charlie and rubs his leg, Charlie gets flashbacks of a similar
situation in which his adult Aunt sexually abuses him. Due to his past, Charlie is depicted as
unable to cope with the problems he faces, through his actions over the course of the film.
Charlie takes a passive role in his life. For example, when his sister is abused by her boyfriend,
Charlie does not step in. He also doesn t speak up when Mary Elizabeth declares that she and
Charlie are dating, though he clearly doesn t have any interest in her. From the audience s point
of view, it is known that his passive actions are a result of his emotional problems. However, as
explained by Denby, the motherless child also has powers and will someday be a

41. Disadvantages Of Fossil Fuels
Ever since the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century, fossil fuels have seen a huge rise in
popularity. Used to power the economy and numerous factories, fossil fuels started the leap in
technology that gives us the power we take for granted today. Since the beginning of the oil
industry in the 19th century, petroleum has risen to global everyday usage. Initially kerosene, a
product derived from petroleum, was used for lighting and heating, but with the appearance of
oil drilling technology petroleum became mass produced. Used to generate electricity to power
automobiles, ships, planes, etc. Today the world is almost completely dependant on fossil fuels.
World consumption of fossil fuels has increased from 3.8 billion tons of oil in 1965 to 11.1
billion tons of oil in 2007. Of all the fossil fuels available, oil has had the most profound effect on
society. However, fossil fuels are a finite resource. Fossil fuels work by converting the heat energy
released by combustion into electrical energy. Once the hard resources are extracted and refined,
they are ready for use. When combustion commences, the hydrocarbons present create energy. The
heat used to burn the fossil fuels causes the molecules of carbon and hydrogen to react, which

42. What Is The Symbolism Of The Catcher In The Rye
Journal 5 (Reading Between the Lines) Sometimes it s what characters don t say that matters.
Symbolism provides readers with a chance to read between the lines and further interpret the work
further. J.D. Salinger uses this method to create more depth in his novel, The Catcher in the Rye.
By looking deeper into the symbols of the novel readers understand the true message he wishes to
convey.
One symbol Salinger uses is when Holden has a conversation with an arrogant taxi driver: I didn t
want to start an argument. Okay, I said. Then I thought of something, all of a sudden. Hey, listen, I
said. You know those ducks in that lagoon right near Central Park South? That little lake? By any

When Holden is questioned by his younger sister, Phoebe, regarding what he would like to do
when he gets older, Holden replies, Anyway, I keep picturing all these little kids playing some
game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little kids, and nobody s around nobody big, I
mean except me. And I m standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to
catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff I mean if they re running and they don t look
where they re going. I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That s all I d do all
day. I d just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it s crazy, but that s the only thing I d really
like to be. Here Holden exposes his deepest desire and interprets the book s theme. Holden attempts
to keep children in the innocence of childhood and his wish to save other children from the descent

43. Examples Of Personal Choice In Frankenstein
In the novel Frankenstein Mary Shelley is sending a clear message that personal choice is
extremely important in one s life. Any bad choice can result in terrible consequences that could
haunt one for the rest of their life. Before any choice is made one should think one the
consequences that can result from that decision. Personal choice can help one succeed, but it can
also cause them to suffer. Victor made the terrible choice of abandoning his creation after it s birth
which results in the deaths of all of his loved ones and eventually himself. One excellent example is
the trial and execution of Justine Moritz who died because of Victor s mistakes. Throughout the
trial and eventual execution of Justine Moritz, Shelley demonstrates the powerful role personal
choice plays in the lives of Frankensteins characters.
The novel shows that one s personal choices can sometimes affect the lives of those closest to
them. Throughout the novel Victor s personal choices proves fatal to those that he holds most dear.

The choices one makes can shape their life as well as the lives of those their loved ones. One
must think before they make any decision, especially one that could have an effect on human life.
One must realize how important personal choice is and the lives of the characters in Frankenstein
make this obvious. Justine Moritz and William Frankenstein suffered due the choices of Victor
and the Frankenstein family suffered due to these loses. All of the problems that faced Victor and
the misery it caused his family was all due to his choice to abandon his creation when it needed
him most. His personal failures as a human being causes the deaths of his friends and family who
were completely innocent. Frankenstein s failure to make any competent decisions lead to his life

44. The Meaning Of Courage In The Shawshank Redemption, And...
What is the meaning of courage? This is a question that many people ask themselves. Is courage
doing something others are too afraid to do or is it facing your fears and pain? You can find
examples of courage in the books The Kite Runner, Life of Pi, Beastly, Rita Hayworth and the
Shawshank Redemption, and Plainsong. I have also shown courage with my past and how I
grew up. The way that I showed courage in my past was facing what scared me the most. Two of
the things that scared me the most was watching my mom get abused and worrying about food.
As a kid we were forced to watch my mother get abused by her boyfriends. The only time my
sister, brother and I got food was when we would go and beg for food from our neighbors. My
mom also taught us how to steal, which was a bad habit I had until I broke it at 12 years old. We
all developed habits, my sister hoarded food, my brother hurt himself, and I stole stuff. When I
moved in with my Aunt, I was 8 years old and it was the happiest day of my life. However, I was
still not getting a lot of food because my sister would eat her food then eat all of mine. This
happened until my sister turned 18 and my Aunt found out and kicked her out because she was
abuse me. I found the courage to stand up and tell my Aunt so the abuse would end. My life
started out rough, but at least it taught me what not to do in life and what to try and avoid. I have
shown courage by facing my fears and getting rid of my old habits from my childhood. You can
also find examples of courage in the books The Kite Runner, Life of Pi, and Beastly. An example
of courage is when Assef goes to hit Amir, Assef suddenly freezes because Hassan has his
slingshot aimed at him, which allows Amir and Hassan to get away. Hassan shows courage by
facing his fear of Assef and stands up for Amir and himself. You can also see courage when Pi
has to face Richard Parker and decides that they need each other. Pi had a fear of Richard Parker
because he watched what happened to the goat. This made Pi realize how strong and powerful
tigers are and how they can kill you very easily. Even though he knew this he also knew that they
need to stick together and help each other. Another example is in Beastly when Kyle

Individuals worldwide are affected by Parkinson s disease. Parkinson s is a chronic disorder
with onset of symptoms occurring at a mean age of 60 years. The prevalence of Parkinson s
increases with age and may affect up to 5% of individuals over 79 years old. (Tosin, Campos,
Andrade, Oliveira, Santana, 2015). Those affected by the disease, experience impairments in
movement, balance, and have difficulty performing everyday life tasks. Due to posture deficits and
gait dysfunction, patients with Parkinson s have an increased risk of falling which may lead to
secondary health problems. Although exercise programs have been implemented to decrease falls,
few programs are proven successful. (Li, Harmer, Fitzgerald, Eckstrom, Stock, Galver, Maddalozzo,
Batya, 2012). In order to find an effective program in decreasing falls, nurses are performing various
rehabilitation interventions that focus on improving postural stability. Two examples of
interventions include QiGong and Tai Chi. Qi Gong is a mindful exercise that effects neuroplasticity
in the brain and can have an effect on the postural instability that Parkinson s patients experience
(Loftus, 2014). Tai Chi is a balance based exercise that may have an effect on muscle strength and
stability for those living with Parkinson s (Li, et al., 2012). Qi Gong and Tai Chi are two

Gambling has proven to be one of the more profitable things that the Mafia provides. From their
own private casinos to games for elite clientele, to booking off track bets in Belmont and
Saratoga, their profit margins are tremendous. In the 1920 s Mafia Boss Bonanno started to fix
horse races, betting huge amounts of money on the known outcomes. Fixing boxing matches
was also a favorite of the early crime lords. Sammy The Bull Gravano, John Gotti s ex Underboss
states that charitable casino events in New York from the period of 1970 1995 were most likely
a front for private profiteers. A man named Joe Pistone, an undercover FBI agent who became a

bribing city officials and local police officers. In the 20th century this has proved very profitable,
but in the last few years has slowed down due to police forces cracking down heavily. Gambling,
however, serves only a limited number of people, and more money can be made on a larger

50. A Comparison OfThe Legends Of King Arthur And Merlin
The King Arthur story takes on many perceptions and interpretations. These perceptions and
interpretations can be very different. The show Merlin is an adaptation of the King Arthur story but
Merlin is the main hero in the story not King Arthur. In the book, The Legends of King Arthur and
His Knights, the main hero is King Arthurnot Merlin. These two versions both incorporate King
Arthur s last battle but are both very different. Merlin and The Legends of King Arthur and His
Knights are different by Merlin tries to save King Arthur from dying but in the The Legends of
King Arthur and His Knights Merlin is not even mentioned.
The death of Arthur is different in both texts because the show wants to appeal to a bigger
audience. The main difference is that in The Legends of King Arthur, Arthur dies right after he
gets stabbed from Modred, but in the show Merlin, he lives for a another couple of days while
Merlin tries to find the place where Arthur will be saved. Merlin showed Arthur s death the way
it did because they wanted the audience to be on edge. In the show, Merlin is the main hero and
reveals that he has magical powers to Arthur while Arthur is dying. In the book Merlin is never
mentioned and never was this close to Arthur. The show focuses on Merlin being the main hero
because they wanted to portray that a common day person can be a hero. Merlin has magical
powers and the show is based off of these magical powers. For example, in the middle of King

I have never had a literal, involuntary jaw dropping moment. Nothing in my life has ever been
that devastating or overwhelming where I felt like my body didn t belong to me anymore.
Where my only response was a gaping mouth, tears escaping my eyes to drip down my cheeks,
shaking with every breath. Not until I saw footage in the museum of the South Tower come
crashing down. On repeat. The weight of this tragedy had never felt so heavy and unbearable
than in that moment. 2,997. A number I could count to in about an hour. Unlike a million,
billion and trillion it seemed relatively easy to fathom and grasp. It wasn t until I heard the
voices of those who had first hand witnessed the collapse of the South Tower that, that number
became infinite. Each tragic passing meant an immeasurable network of family, friends,
colleagues and neighbors who would feel the constant, painful void of losing a loved one. My
mind then went to think, what if it were my mom or dad or sister or best friend or close
colleague or next door neighbor in that building. I felt extreme urgency to call my family to
remind them how much I loved them and needed them in my life. I then thought about all of the
people who couldn t say I love you one last time. Who couldn t hug their mom and snuggle with
their dog and kiss their spouse and laugh with their friends. Life is immense. It was the first time

53. What Is The Theme Of Through The Tunnel By Doris Lessing
Through the Tunnel It is widely known that through childhood and adolescence growing up is not
only inevitable but also difficult. In the short story Through the tunnel the author, Doris Lessing
shows this through the main character, Jerry, and his journey in becoming more independent from
his mother. Although the journey was difficult in the end, Jerry has matured as a person and does
not need his mother to constantly be with him; but she becomes a place where he knows that he is
safe. In the short story, Through the Tunnel , the author portrays the difficulty of growing up
through symbolism and imagery. One example of how the author uses symbolism to help the
reader understand the struggles of growing up is by using bright colors whenever he refers to the
mother. The bright colors are used to symbolize that Jerry s mother is his safe place to go to in
need of help. According to Doris Lessingpage 358 There she was, a speck of yellowunder an
umbrella that looked like a slice of orange peel. The color yellow, as the mother is being
described represents happiness. This means that Jerry s mother is the main source of his joy. The
color orange is used in caution signs and could mean that his mother is reminding him to be
careful, even without her being present. Another example of the author using bright colors when
referencing the mother is the following, His mother walked on in front of him, carrying a bright
striped bag in one hand (Lessing 356). This is once

To correct all misunderstandings, breakfast indeed helps us control healthy diets and even lose
weight. How? Technically, skipping breakfast means your sugar level in blood drops even lower
than the required standard. As a result, it will trigger your hunger and you will have less energy,
which means that by lunch time you would be starving to death, and feel like you can eat a
whole cow. As a consequence, you would end up overeating. What s about if we just ensure that
we do not over consume for the rest of the day? Admittedly, for that case, you might lose some
weight, but according to www. prevention.com, a reward of longterm skipping breakfast is to
