The Collapse Of The Space Shuttle Before Columbia
In the year of 2003, on February 1, a tragic accident had occurred in the atmosphere above Texas
as the space shuttle called Columbia was on it s way to land at the Kennedy Space Center. The
shuttle itself was on its 28th mission and was just one of the five space shuttles that was used
amongst NASA. But on this particular day, it wasn t like the rest because astronauts are supposed
to return home safely; that s not what happened on this day. There were seven astronauts that were
inside the shuttle. Their names were Rick Husband, David Brown, Michael Anderson, Laurel Clark,
William McCool, Kalpana Chawla, and Ilan Ramon. They had all died in an explosion within the
shuttle itself.
NASA was trying to figure out how this could ve happened. They ran through many possibilities
of what could ve gone wrong and they came to the conclusion that the reason the shuttle had
exploded when coming through the atmosphere was because a chunk of foam hilt a wing of the
craft. This was suspected to be the reason when tape was analyzed of the takeoff before
Columbia went into space. NASA wanted to know if it was the real reason but didn t want
anyone else to know of the issues besides them. The Department of Defense had asked
permission from the people working for NASA to use orbital spy cameras to analyze the problem.
But NASA had said no to their offer and went on to analyze and check the disaster for themselves
so that they knew what the problem was. They call this a common check .

Analysis Of The Book Watchmen By Dave Gibbons
Watchmen written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons utilizes the literary tool of
symbols to connect ideas and themes. Time is a major theme throughout the comic and plays a
significant part in the structure and outcome of the story. This theme is successfully coupled to the
theme of destiny by the use of the clock and other symbols that are present throughout the comic.
Symbols such as clocks, the smiley pin, and the graffiti are utilized to efficiently connect the themes
of time, justice and the loss of innocence and morality throughout Watchmen. The combination of
all of these themes ultimately allude to Ozymandias decision to unleash chaos on Manhattan by
foreshadowing his betrayal and explaining how impossible it is to entrench the peace that he has
manufactured by unleashing this chaos. The clocks in Watchmen are used to foreshadow crucial
future events and connect the themes of morality and time. Other than the literal connection
between calling themselves Watchmen and recurring images of actual watches, doomsday clocks
and time in general plays a huge part in the arc of the comic s storyline. This is because of the
impending destruction that the world is to face at the hands of Ozymandias. Doctor Manhattan s
father was a watchmaker before learning that time is irrelevant and therefore useless. Jon himself
finds this out through his own experience with time and seeing back and forth through it. This is
particularly important because the whole reason he

Emirates Airlines Mission Statement
Introduction
The company that I have chosen is Emirates Airline.
The foundation of Emirates Airline started in the offices of Dnata, when in 1978 Mr Maurice
Flanagan became the director and general manager of Dnata.
Dnata is a company offering aircraft ground handling, cargo, travel, and flight catering services
across five continents.
In 1984 Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Mr Flanagan discussed launching an
airline in Dubai and with just a 10 man team he produced the business plan for the new airline.
The names he proposed were Dubai Airlines or Emirates airline.
Finally the decision was made and Sheik Mohammed opted for the Emirates Airlines and decided
to launch it on top of the Dnata, which was already settled in the Airline ... Show more content on

Even though Emirates Airlines has had some crisis during their evolution such as the 2001 terrorist
attacks which led to the cancellation of all flights going to America.
Emirates Airlines have always resisted the temptation of merging and acquisitions.
The main reason of avoiding merging and acquisition is mainly because it would lower their
flexibility and future decisions would have been done with outside partners.
I believe that this ambition of looking at the future has brought them even more up in the airlines
markets.
Free Competition
Emirates Airlines have also decided to allow free competition.
This decision has brought benefits for the Airline because the fact of raising competition would
mean raise the standards.
By doing this they have putted them in a great position because I believe that they are the leaders in
continuous innovation and development within the industry.
Courage
Another main strength of Emirates Airline is their courage in such market and the fact they were
never scared of the other competing airlines, such as British Airlines or

Comparing Night And Life Is Beautiful
You will always define events in a manner which will validate your agreement with reality
(Maraboli ). Maraboli s statement explains that the way each person tells their story is defined by
how they see reality. The truth of this can be seen in the differences between the book Night (2006)
by Ellie Wiesel and the movie Life is Beautiful . Both stories depict the life of a young man sent
Auschwitz with their father during the Holocaust. However, despite the similarities of their
circumstances at camp, the main characters have two radically different descriptions of what the
Holocaust was like. Each character saw the events around him in a different light, therefore, his
interpretation of what happened is completely different. In the novel Night and the movie Life is
beautiful, the Holocaust is portrayed both similarly and differently through the father/son
relationship, the debate between... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Life is Beautiful the audience is given feelings of hope and joy, while in Night readers are
given feelings of despair. For example, when Joshua is liberated, he believes that he has won a
game and received a tank as a prize. The movie ends when he finds his mother and is overjoyed
to see her again ( Life is Beautiful, 2000). The movie , while showing the struggles of the
Holocaust, focuses on the positive moments and ends with a happy reunion to leave the
audience with hope. When Ellie is liberated, on the other hand, he is sick and only thinks of how
hungry he is. The book ends when Ellie looks at himself in the mirror and says, From the depths
of the mirror, a corpse was contemplating me (Wiesel, 2006, p. 115). Night ends with a reminder
of how the Holocaust damaged so many people forever. Despite the similarities of their
circumstances, Joshua and Ellie s stories are framed in dramatically different

The Emperor Of The King
After Otto had received the imperial crown at Rome (2 February, 962) Liutprand was often
entrusted with important commissions, in 963 when he was sent as ambassador to John XII at
the beginning of the quarrel between the pope and the emperor, owing to the former s alliance
with BГ©renger s son Adelbert. Liutprand also took part in the assembly of bishops at Rome, 6
November, 963, which deposed John XII. Liutprand describes from his point of view these
events of 960 64, and sides entirely with the emperor, condemning the Romans very harshly.
After the death of the pope, Leo VIII, Liutprand again went to Rome with Bishop Otgar of
Speyer, as the emperor s envoy, to conduct the election of a new pope, on which occasion John
XIII was chosen. The Bishop of Cremona undertook another mission to Constantinople by order
of the emperor in the summer of 968 to ask the Byzantine Emperor to bestow his daughter in
marriage on Otto s son, later Otto II. In regards to the Capitulary of the Missi, inhabitants of the
district they administered had to provide for their subsistence, and at times they led the host to
battle. The missi were protected by a triple wergeld and resistance to them was punishable by
death. They were to execute justice, to ensure respect for the king, to control the government of the
military dukes and administrative counts (then still royal officials), to receive their oath of

Microchips in humans
Microchips in Humans In today s society, technology continues to find new ways to protect our
children and families. Several devises have already been developed to track children when they
are away from home. These devises work by GPS signal to track the movement of the child and
are worn externally or are imbedded in an item of clothing. There are also GPS devices already
approved for implantation in humans. VeriChip was the only Food and Drug Administration
approved human implantable microchip for use in medical purposes (DHHS pg. 71702 71704).
These developments have sparked a debate over whether we should consider implanting microchips
in humans for tracking and safety reasons and not just medical purposes. Today there are... Show

In combination with the surgery, the implant represents a permanent intrusion of our privacy.
With an implanted microchip, your brain is hotwired into a computer that has a GPS tracking
systems to monitor your movements, every minute of every day, for the rest of your life. Just
imagine how creepy that really sounds. The concept of privacy for anyone implanted would
never exist again. To protect our privacy, we need to better understand its value and the purpose
it serves. Privacy is understood as an important barrier that gives us space to develop an identity
that is separate from the supervision, assessments, and values of our society. Privacy is crucial
for helping us manage all of the pressures that shape the type of person we are in society. Privacy
is also used as the groundwork to protect our other fundamental rights. If our right to privacy were
compromised then our other rights would soon faultier as well. To implant microchips into human
being seems to be a clear case of intrusion of our bodies and our lives. Another reason our
government should not allow microchips implanted in humans is that it would serve no real
purpose except to track our movements and why should anyone have that much power over any
individual. We need to consider the bigger picture as stated in this article: Imagine what the
government could do with this kind of technology. If it wanted to, it could use this technology to
track literally every movement and behavior of

Puppy Mill Speech
Puppies are amazing, special creatures that seem to be born with that unconditional unique quality
of love and loyalty for their humans. Depending on the prospective owner, dogs make the best of
companions, with the potential to love, cuddle and play.
Annually, there are more than 6 million puppies born throughout the United States alone. Similar to
the human newborn, puppies are born without teeth. They also cannot see, hear or smell. They gain
their senses typically between 9 and 12 days old and totally rely on mom during that time.
Not all puppies are lucky enough to have the best start in life, subjecting them to some of the most
horrendous conditions, especially those born and raised in puppy mills or puppy farms. If you
have your heart set on adding a new puppy to your home and family, consider nothing less than a
reputable breeder or shelter with healthy puppies.

Homelessness In San Diego
In America s finest city, vivid thoughts of beaches, sunshine, and excitement all come to mind.
Pictures that do not come to mind are the streets that are lined with tents, trash bags full of clothes,

Racial Barriers In The Film Remember The Titan s
Remember the Titan s is a film produced in January 2000 by Jerry Bruckheimer featuring black
and white schools integrating. As a result, the football teams also unified forming the titans.
Although at the beginning there was tension among them, they eventually came together to form
a truly worthy team. In the duration of the film, there are many instances in the film where racial
barriers are broken down, and as a result both races are able to get along. When Boone takes the
team for a run through the woods into the graveyard where the battle of Gettysburg took place; he
delivers a speech which breaks down racial barriers because of its hidden meaning. He tells them
to take a lesson from the dead and states that if they didn t come together, they would surely be

Negative And Negative Effects Of Marijuana
Negatives of Marijuana Marijuana is a dangerous drug and should not be legalized. Marijuana
can damage lungs, it can affect cardiovascular shape and it puts you at higher risk for heart
attack or stroke, raises blood pressure and many other harmful effects. You can also end up
getting addicted to marijuana (Watson4). It s a very dangerous drug especially if driving. There
are many DUI s and deadly accidents that are marijuana related each year (gray1). That s why
marijuana is illegal in almost every state. Nevertheless, the number of teenagers partaking in
marijuana does appear to be on the rise, at least partially due to a reduced perception of risk
among teens who have been following the various legal debates around the country around
legalization of medicinal and recreational marijuana. Noelle swan (Christian Science Monitor2).

most common used drug in the United States and polls show that Americans are in favor of
marijuana (congressional digest1). It has various slang names such as; weed, pot, grass, ganja,
bud, herb, and many more. In two states recreational marijuana is legal and twenty eight states

earlier periods the musicians job was the composition or works for specific occasions and
audiences. For church services Bach would write weekly cantatas. Haydn wrote symphonies for
concerts in palaces and Beethoven worked as a freelance musician. Beethoven s free artist

Religious Characters in The Canterbury Tales by Chaucer
*Works Cited Not Included
When thinking of the figures in the church, they are thought to be loyal, respectful, giving, and
dedicated. Sadly to say this, but not all figures follow that description. In
The Canterbury Tales , Chaucer shows the corruption of the church in the medieval period through
some of his characters, particularly through the Nun, the Monk, and the Friar. Yet, Chaucer does
show one character, the Parson, as goodness and holiness in the church. Nuns are member of a
religious order for women, living in a convent under vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Their
orders vary in the stipulations of the vows, some being permanent, and others only for ... Show

One positive point is that she does have a clean mouth and watches what she says. Monks have
abandoned the world for religious reasons and devote their lives, either separately or in a
community, to spiritual perfection. The vows of celibacy, poverty, and obedience under which
they live, are termed the religious counsels. A person bound by such vows is known as a religious.
Chaucer s Monk s sport was hunting. The Rule of good Saint Benet or Saint
Maur (Prologue, 177) says hunters are not holy men (Prologue, 182). He does not keep to his
studies, but instead would rather be doing labor. In addition, he holds worldly possessions, such as
his wrought gold cunningly fashioned pin (Prologue,
200), which shows that he has money. Friars differ from monks, in that the monk was attached to a
specific community within which he led a withdrawn life, having no direct contact with the secular
world.
Friars, on the other hand, belonged to no particular monastic house, but to a general order and
worked as an individual in the non religious world. Thus, friars and monks are not on synonymous
terms. Friars are members of certain religious orders who practice the principles of monastic life
and devote themselves to the service of humanity in the secular world.
Originally, their rules forbid holding either community or personal property. The resulting
dependence of friars on voluntary

How Does The Brain Drain Be Hot Potatoes Throughout The...
For years, brain drain issues have been hot potatoes throughout the world. Brain drain is also
academically known as the human capital flight, refers to the large scale migration of highly
educated, skilled and talented people of developing countries to highly developed countries of the
world (Wikipedia, 2016). The brain drain originated in 1960, when most of human resources like
scientists, engineers, and technologists emigrated from United Kingdom to America (Wikipedia,
2016). This phenomenon has become a global issue, and it is happening all over the world in
particular for developing countries. China, which is the largest population country with a
remarkable economic growth, is also suffering from severe brain drain issues. In recent years,
China is one of countries facing the highest loss of top talented people. An official from mainland
China s Office of Central Talent Work Coordination Group noted that estimated 87 percent of
talented individuals choose to stay overseas, particularly in the fields of science and engineering
(Zhang, 2013). China is also considered as the biggest worldwide contributor of emigrants
(Wikipedia, 2016). In the United States, Chinese immigrants make up the largest group of arrivals
a year and Chinese immigrants are growing in number. The Census Bureau says China replaced
Mexico as the top country of origin for immigrants to the U.S. in 2013 (Lee, 2015).

The University Students Epistemological Beliefs About...
Abstract
14 sophomores and 22 seniors participated in this study. The goal of this study was to examine
whether sophomore and senior level university students differ in their beliefs about construction
and modification of knowledge. Students rated their responses to an Epistemological Beliefs (EB)
questionnaire on a 5 point Likert scale. This survey measured students beliefs about constructing
and modification of knowledge between sophomores and seniors. Results indicated that sophomores
have a more sophisticated epistemological view than seniors. Time spent in school may not be the
only factor determining students level of EB sophistication.

In Schommer s 1997 study, she found that seniors in high school have a more complex view of
epistemology (Schommer, M. 1997). Perry s 1968 study also defends the idea that more education
should predict a more complex view of epistemology (Perry, W.G., Jr, 1968). However, it was not
clear whether the results would be similar in a university setting. Therefore a test was conducted to
find out.
Methods
14 sophomores and 22 seniors from Eastern Illinois University participated in this study.
Participants were taken from 3 different classes: Honors Intro to Psychology, Cognitive
Psychology, and Research Methods. The Wood Kardash (2002) Epistemological Belief Survey
was administered to each class in a classroom setting during the Fall semester of 2012. Students
rated their responses to EB questionnaire on a 5 point Likert scale. This was done a total of 3
times, once at the begging of the semester, once at the end of the semester, and again at the end of
the semester. Before the last survey was administered, the percipients were required to read an
article about epistemology. Once all the participants read the article they were then given the
survey. However, since this was a comparative study, only one of these tests was actually used, the
final test. The independent variable is the students, which involved two levels: sophomores and
seniors. The dependent variable is the level of sophistication. An independent sample T test was

The chimpanzee became its own species when it separated...
The chimpanzee became its own species when it separated from bonobos about 2 to 3 million
years ago (Mitchell, and Gonder). According to the article Chimps And Bonobos , this most
likely happened because of allopatric speciation which is the separation of a species through
physical forces like mountains or rivers that isolate the two groups. The physical force that
separated the two species was most likely Zaire River which is also called the Congo River in
Sub Sahara Africa. About 2 million years ago there was a drought south of the river and drove the
gorillas that were living the area north. Without an apex predator in the area the common ancestor

According to Chimpanzee, an example of a homologous structure it shares with its descendants is
its relatively large skull. As the animals became more evolved their skull shapes started to
change to accommodate for a larger brain. This size difference is shown in Figure 2 because you
can see the difference in the brain and skull size of the chimpanzees (bottom) and humans (top)
(Chimpanzee). This is because Cranium size is determined by brain size and recent evidence by
(Dumas, 2012) shows that this is likely determine by a protein domain called DUF1220.
DUF1220 is a domain, a sub section of a gene, which is about 65 amino acids long and expressed
mostly in neurons (DUF1220). Research (Dumas, 2012) shows that more copies present in the
genome the larger the brain size is in that animal. Humans have 270 copies and the trend goes
down from there with Chimps having 125, Gorillas 99 and marmosets 30 and mice just one
(Dumas). This research shows the reasons hominids increased in brain size is because there was a
mutation that increased the amount of DUF1220 in their lineage which led to gradually larger
brain sizes. Since the Chimps split off (Figure 1) before this mutation their brains did not increase in
size; hence the reason they are still similar to the common ancestor of both chimps and humans.

Colleges Should Require Class Attendance
Does your attendance record reflect your final grade in college? No not because the professor
will mark you down a certain percentage of your grade, but because of the relationship between
students that show up for class and the ones that regularly skip. When I started attending college,
I was a bit confused why such a large percentage of students weren t attending class. It seemed as
the quarter moved further along, class attendance went down. After spending a bit of time on
google, I found a few statistics that reflect why I believe class attendance should be mandatory. On
the contrary, some students will say that they should have the freedom to decide if they want to go
to class, because they are now adults. However, to improve students grades and schooldrop out
rates. Colleges should require class attendance. Building in class continuity will help prepare
young adults for the work world and requiring class attendance will help develop students for a
thriving career. Fortunately, in grade school you are required to go to school. If you don t there
will be some form of consequences. However, once students enter collegethey now have the choice

What is a curse? A curse could be defined as anything negative wished upon a person or place. So
is it possible that an entire franchise be cursed? Well this is the case for one Major League
baseball club, the Chicago Cubs. It has been over 100 years, 1908, since the Cubs have won the
World Series. With many many great teams since then and no World Championships, is it too much
to think that maybe, just maybe this franchise, is cursed? Well from the Billy goat in 1945 to the
black cat in 1969 and Steve Bartman in 2003, many unfortunate events have occurred that have led
many to believe that in fact the Chicago Cubs franchise is cursed. Cub pride was at its height in
1945. The war was over, the boys were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Mets won both games, and the Cubs left New York with a record of 84 58 just ВЅ game in
front. Disaster followed in Philadelphia, as a 99 loss Phillies team nonetheless defeated the Cubs
twice, to extend Chicago s losing streak to eight games. In a key play in the second game, on
September 11, Cubs starter Dick Selma threw a surprise pickoff attempt to third baseman Ron
Santo, who was nowhere near the bag or the ball. Selma s throwing error opened the gates to a
Phillies rally.
After that second Philly loss, the Cubs were 84 60 and the Mets had pulled ahead at 85 57. The
Mets would not look back. The Cubs eight game losing streak finally ended the next day in St.
Louis, but the Mets were in the midst of a ten game winning streak, and the Cubs, wilting from
team fatigue, generally deteriorated in all phases of the game. The Mets would go on to win the
World Series. The Cubs, despite a respectable 92 70 record, would be remembered for having lost a
remarkable 17ВЅ games in the standings to the Mets in the last quarter of the season.
Some superstitious fans attribute the Cubs collapse to an incident at Shea Stadium on September
9: a black cat (an omen of bad luck) walked behind the Cubs on deck circle. Some fans blame key
errors by center fielder Don Young and captain Ron Santo s immediate. Still others blame the

Standardized Databases And Benchmarks For Experiment
In order to evaluate which approach is better in this field, some standardized databases and
benchmarks for experiment are designed. Many databases are designed for different kinds of
methods, owing that different methods may have different assumptions on shapes. A commonly
used database is 99shapes, by Kimia et al. It contains ninety nine planar shapes which classified
into nine classes, with eleven shapes in each. Shapes in the same class are in different variant
form, including occluded, noised, rotated, etc. Other databases including MPEG 7 Shape
Dataset [5], Articulated Dataset, Swedish Leaf Dataset and Brown Dataset are used to have
further experiments. Similar to [13], Precision and Recall is used for benchmark for the reason
of fair comparisons. C.Results and Discussion Table I shows the optimal result from test on
99shape dataset. The numbers of points we sampled from the shapes are 50, 50 and 25 for RSD,
RAD and TF respectively. For the articulated dataset, 45, 35 and 45 points are sample for RSD,
RAD and TF. Retrieval result on articulated dataset was presented in Table I. We have noticed that
result on 99shape from RAD is slightly better than RSD, while on articulated dataset RSD performs
slightly better than RAD. During the above experiment, we tried to normalize the descriptors and
found that experiment on 99 shapes received little influence from normalization while result from
articulated dataset has some improvement. From the Table I, our

My Leadership Philosophy Of The Coast Guard
Subj:MY LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY
1.Leadership in the Coast Guard is the process of guiding and inspiring others toward closer
adherence to the core values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty. Leadership is a set of
behaviors rather than just a set of ideals. Ideals are good, but ideals without the corresponding
behaviors are useless. The best way to guide others is to show by example; a true leader not only
speaks out in favor of the core values, but also exhibits them in their daily life.
2.Although leadership traits can be studied from textbooks, the best way to adopt good leadership
traits is to follow an example of positive leadership. In my career, I ve been very fortunate to have
had numerous positive role models on which to model by own behavior after. The following
examples are some situations where shipmates and supervisors have demonstrated outstanding
leadership, and have had a profound impact on me:
a.At my first duty station, my biggest desire was to fit in with everybody else. So whatever
everybody else did, I usually followed along and did likewise. This strategy is great if everybody
else always does the right thing; however, when the majority does the wrong thing, then this
philosophy will lead you astray. In this case, a member who was struggling to perform up to
standards was becoming the subject of jokes and disrespect by the rest of the crew. This lack of
respect towards a shipmate became flagrant. Unfortunately, as a new member of the

Football Hooligans
Football hooligans.
Football has been an attractive sport around the world. Through this sport, many inhabitants have
denominated themselves as fans of a particular football team. These people support the players in
each match they have. Every football team has a group of fans that go to the stadium to encourage
them in the game, but also they attend there to enjoy the show. Nevertheless, not all the fans go to
see the matches since there are some people who belong to groups called hooligans. Those groups
are highly violent, and they do not mind killing other people to defend their team. Consequently,
citizens who belong to these violent groups should not be able to come back to the stadiums
because hooligans do not benefit the image of football, do not understand the meaning of football,
and do not respect the diversity of preferences. Violent hooligans have been damaging the image of
the football day to day. First of all, the hooligans affect the perception of football because most
members of violent hooligans are adolescents, and it makes people think that football promotes the
violence. According to a study performed by a web page called Monographs said that of every one

Our Experiment to Separate a Mixture of Organic Compounds...
Purpose/Introduction
What were we trying to accomplish with this experiment? What method did we implement to
accomplish the task? What techniques were used to purify and identify the product(s) of the
reaction? In this experiment, an acid base extraction was done to separate a mixture of an unknown
acid and fluorene, a neutral compound. The possible unknown acids were 2 chlorobenzoic acid, 3
chlorobenzoic acid, and 3 methylbenzoic acid. The purification of the isolated unknown acid was
performed by recrystallization and its identity was established by analyzing the melting point range
of the pure product and comparing it to the provided standards. In addition, a mixed melting point
experimentation enhanced the fidelity of the unknown s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially, the organic carboxylic acid becomes a charged species after it is deprotonated by a base
like sodium hydroxide, producing a carboxylic salt. After completing the extraction, an acid, such
as hydrochloric acid, is added to the basic aqueous solution causing the sodium carboxylate salt to
change back to the default carboxylic acid, which will precipitate out of solution since it is water
insoluble. Recrystallization is a technique when a solute is dissolved in a hot solvent (destruction of
the impure crystal lattice) and is then precipitated out of solution as the solvent is immediately
cooled (selectively producing a purer lattice). The unknown acid was recrystallized using hot water
followed by hot ethanol in order to dissolve the solid, followed by cooling which resulted in the
precipitation of the desired product. Afterward, melting point experimentation was used to match
the melting point data of the unknown acid with the provided standards of the known acids. If
there is a melting point depression, one has acted as an impurity to the other compound. In contrast,
if there is no noticeable decrease in melting point relative to the two separate compounds; it is safe
to say that they are the same substance.

A Journey of Valuable Lesson in Niccolo Ammaniti s I m...
The novel, I m Not Scared, by Niccolo Ammaniti takes you on a memorable journey with
Michele Amitrano, a nine year old boy, who learns valuable lessons on how trust and loyalty
gives you more than greed and money oriented acts. The journey arises in 1978 in Aqua Traverse
during the time when the small, isolated town of Southern Italy suffered from a major heat wave.
Around this time is when Michele makes a tragic discovery of a young, kidnapped Filippo who is
chained up in a hole and made to live in the most inhumane conditions. Through the finding of
Filippo Michele s innocence becomes a thing of the past as it uncovers the truth about the real
monsters in Aqua Traverse. Although, Michele never loses sight of his strong belief in the values
of trust and loyalty even with his regretful selling out of Filippo to Salvatore Scardiccione and Pino
s (Papa s) to deter him from knowing the truth but then his materialistic ways of winning him back
after the truth is discovered.
Michele s first experience with the acts of betrayal is when he discovers the villager s involvement
in the kidnapping of Filippo. From this he realizes the value of trust and loyalty is far more
important than money. Prior to his discovery of the kidnapping, Michele admired and looked up to
all the adults in Aqua Traverse, especially his parents, Pino and Teresa. Throughout the novel we
see Michele s views and opinions of his father change dramatically with hints Ammaniti provides.

Active Learning Is The Best Option Of Learning
Active learning is productive, enhances opportunities and is supported or directed by technology.
However, that is not to say that active learning is the best option of learning for all. To determine
how well students learn while not physically in a classroom we need to evaluate how well learning
takes place in on line classroom environments. Skorton (2013) documented that an online course
has the potential to transform higher educations with substantial benefits for students, their
eventual employers, and participating communities. Therefore, evaluation of learning
environments indicates a real measure of the effectiveness of what is learned. Experiments have
shown the way that it is beneficial to a person s daily activities or student however; from
experiences, there should be a means to demonstrate what is learned. Did learning take place, at
least to meet defined objectives from a class or other learning environments? To me learning via
collaborative, instructional, and with a team of mixed backgrounds can promote a higher degree
(Jones 1995). My initial thoughts on this subject were that active learning seems to be a bit more
difficult in an online course that it would be sitting in an actual classroom with the personal and
physical interactions of others. That is unless there are sessions providing interactive, near real
time or live online classes. Learning in a classroom or while sitting at home on the couch accessing
classrooms through online resources is

Imagine being confined in a cold cage, trembling, isolated and deprived from the outside world
you once lived in; suddenly realizing your life is now in the palms of a large human in a white lab
coat. Every year in the United States, more than 25 million animals partake in biomedical
experimentation, product and cosmetic testing, and science education (Neavs). With countless
effective, reliable, and beneficial alternatives relating to the human species for which the drug is

being unwillingly imprisoned and inhumanely treated, animal experimentation costs not only

Many drugs, medicines, and operations that could benefit humans may never be discovered, for
they produced no diagnosis in animal tests. Although drugs that fail in animal experiments rarely
appear tested on humans, there have been a few evident cases determined. For example, while
Lipitor did not appear promising in early stages of animal testing, a research scientist requested that
a small group of healthy human volunteers tested the drug, and only then was it found effective
and useful. In many instances, medical discoveries are delayed as researchers vainly waste time,
money, effort, and animal lives trying to create an animal model of a human disease (Aavs).
As well as inhumane treatment and delay of discovery existing as main flaws in animal testing, cost
plays a role just as large. An exceptional amount of animal cruelty is supported by the National
Institutes of Health, which designates 40% of their annual research budget and funding to animal
testing. Animal research and experimentation is a billion dollar industry, in which more money is
lost than gained. Animal importers, breeders, dealers, cage and equipment manufacturers, feed
producers, and drug companies spend a significant amount of money on procurement, handling, and
upkeep of animals (Neavs). While research founded from animals does not always promise useful
results, it is safe to conclude that

Hester Prynne And Reverend Dimmesdale
Trials and tribulations are experienced by everyone. Ups and downs are just peaks and valleys
where people grow and learn from. Hester Prynne, from The Scarlet Letter, is punished for
committing a crime but she matures and understands why she is being punished. On the other hand,
the person she commits this crime with, Reverend Dimmesdale, holds his tongue forcing him to
always think about it. Therefore, Nathaniel Hawthornewrote The Scarlet Letterto express that the
journey one faces in the past is irrelevant to the decisions and actions of the present. In the
beginning, Hester Prynne commits adultery with Reverend Dimmesdale and she becomes pregnant
with his child. Hester will not give the name of the father to the townsfolk, urging Dimmesdale...

more tremulous than before [he has also made] a constant habit, rather than a casual gesture, to
press his hand over his heart? (90). Dimmesdale feels obliged to give his heart to Hester Prynne
and Pearl, and he lets that damage him. Because he is guilty of the same thing as Hester, he also
interprets a meteor as a sign from the heavenly father. Richard Hull states, Dimmesdale and
Hester consider the meanings they attach to things to be meant by a sender, but both the
Enlightenment narrator and Pearl deny such meanings were sent. Thus there are two
interpretations of interpretation (Hull). He talks about the two ways of interpreting things,
believing they are signs or dismissing them completely. Hester believes her child is a sign as
Dimmesdale believes the meteoroid is his sign, and then the narrator and Pearl decline the idea
of messages being sent from a higher power. Dimmesdale may have been hallucinating when he
saw this shooting star but he still depicts it as a message from God. The narrator says, We impute
it, therefore, solely to the disease in his own eye and heart that the minister, looking upward to the
zenith, beheld there the appearance of an immense letter the letter A marked out in lines of dull
red light (116). There is a motif of the scarlet letter and the author uses it to disclose that
Dimmesdale is guilty of the same crime as Hester. They are both guilty but only one of them is
convicted, Hester. Because one of them must deal with their crime publically and the other in

European And American Indian Interactions
Ripon Ali Professor James Boles September 20, 2014 U.S. History Origins 24000 European and
American Indian Interactions The dominant themes of early European and American Indian
interactions were trade, warfare, and religion. According to the Created Equal 2nd Edition textbook,
the first interaction that took place between the Europeans and the American Indians was in 1492,
which was the year when Christopher Columbus first landed in America. (1.Borstlelman, Jones,
May, Ruiz, Wood, pg 11) When Columbus first came to America his way of interacting with the
American Indians would define theme of interactions for a long period to come. Amazed by the
gold that was to be found from the American Indians and the common belief at that time that the
whole world is the rightful inheritance of Christianity. Columbus and his followers set to rule the
American Indians and impose Christianity on them. Having more advanced warfare than the
American Indians, early Europeans enslaved and robbed them of their land and possessions. Due to
the European diseases that were brought, most island populations of American Indians became
extinct. Therefore, in search for more labor Europeans moved to explore the mainland. The French
trade increased mainly because of the Indian s ability to procure beaver pelts. Furthermore, without
the Indian s cooperation, the Europeans could not carry its trade in furs and skins. Without the
Indians, the Europeans wouldn t have been to increase their economy. The

Solitude Cannery Row Analysis
While solitude and loneliness may appear similar, ... all resemblance ends at the surface
(Estroff, 2003). Solitude is a desirable way to deal with problems when life begins to be too much
as it was for Doc. Solitude also gives one an opportunity to start anew, as the burrowing gopher
hoped it could. However, when solitude carries on for too long, it takes a strong will and a definite
goal to avoid loneliness, the undesirable offspring of isolation and rejection. Doc wanted to get
away from his life after he likely had trouble with love, so he chose solitude in Cannery Row, but he
overstayed his solitude. Doc s walk from Chicago to Florida over a breakup with his girlfriend
shows how deeply affected by love he can be. Coupled with the sad story of a lost lover in the
poem that Doc memorized and read at the end of Cannery Row, it is safe to say that Doc
suffered badly from an issue in his love life, so he chose solitude in a place with no one similar
to him in which he could start his life again. Solitude can be a beneficial way to deal with such
events and it could have been great for Doc until he lacked the motivation to leave solitude in

Key Themes In Macbeth
In the story of Macbeth there are a myriad of themes that can be explored and analyzed within the
text, which become distinct and unique in their own way. As the main character, Macbeth, goes
through continuous conflict and self doubt based on the morality of his choices; other characters
slowly get assorted within the chaos that ultimately changes and influences the scenes and murders
that play out throughout the book. Lady Macbeth(Macbeth s wife) can be attributed to most of her
husband s actions as she calls his manhood and pride into question over and over again. Lady
Macbeth manipulates her husband into murdering King Duncanand anyone else that threatens their
power, which steadily begins to address her own morality as a human being. As the book
continues, further on, a sense of guilt can be discovered as part of the aftermath of murdering
Duncan. Near the end Lady Macbeth begins to feel a burden of guilt. This burden towards the
innocent and brutal murders committed drives her into madness, which ultimately leads to her own
death. In essence, Shakespeare s Macbeth suggests a vision of the world in which Macbeth s

Persuasive Essay About Community Service
As an 18 year old tennager, I was forced by my parents to participate a summer volunteer
program in my freshman year. Even though I felt that I was a victim of tyranny in the beginning,
I realized that I actually enjoyed the process of helping people in the middle of the program. Now,
I participate that program every year as an active member, and I have gained the personal
enrichment that I am unable to learn from other sources such as math club or SAT preparatory
class. There is no doubt that community service can bring essential benefits in helping students
develop their moralvalue and future interest, and it should be mandatory because some students
attempt to utilize community service as a tool for their own profit without the school supervision.
Volunteerismenables students to gain the moral lesson that is vital to their life and develop their
future interest. According to source 2, community service teaches us through experience about the
relationship between empathy and responsibility, about what it takes to be part of a community, in
essence, about human being . While students are helping their community, they learn the crucial
moral lessons in the most direct and impressive way. Through an actual experience of volunteering,
students are reminded that it is their responsibility to serve for their community because they are a

Analysis Of A Raisin In The Sun
A Raisin in the Sun written by Lorraine Hansberry tells the story of a lower class African
American family s struggle to gain middle class acceptance when Mama, the sixty year old
mother, receives a $10,000 insurance check from the death of her husband. The drama primarily
focuses on how the ten thousand dollars should be spent. Walter Lee Younger, the son, so
desperate to better provide for his family, wants to invest all the money into a liquor store with
two of his friends. Mama objects and instead decides to use part of the check as a down payment
on a house in a white neighborhood. Conflicts with Walter escalate. In an attempt to resolve
things with her son, Mama entrusts Walter with the rest of the money. He immediately invests
it, without the consent of Mama, in his liquor store idea, with the belief he will quadruple his
investment. However, one of Walter s business partners runs off with the money. In spite the

Arthur Ashe s Influence On African American
Before I begin to talk about Arthur Ashe, I feel that it would be appropriate to talk about what
was going on around the world at the time. One of the reasons why Arthur Ashe was famous was
because he was African American and in that time period, americans found themselves question
the ideals of the country. Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence that all men
are created equal , yet africans were segregated from everything; from schools to water fountains.
Africans were treated like second class citizens even though many of them have brought fame and
honor to the country. Many black athletes would go on to shock the world, including Jesse Owens
who would win four gold medals in the 1936 in Nazi Germany Olympics, and Jackie Robinson
who became the first major league african americanbaseball player. Among these famous players

The demand for avocados might have increased as a result of changes in the income of the
population as an increase in the income of consumer s increases their ability to buy more avocados

In addition, an increase in the size of the population living in that area which means more people
wanting to buy avocados leading to increases in demand. As a result, the demand curve shifts to the
right causing a shortage in the market as demand exceeds supply in the market at the equilibrium
price P as shown in the Diagram.
The diagram above shows an increase in a demand for avocados as the curve shift from D to D1
leading on increase in the equilibrium quantity from Q to Q1, this increase causes a shortage (A
shortage is a situation in the market where more goods and services are demanded by the
consumers more than what is supplied.) from Q to Q2 where Q avocados are supplied while Q2
avocados are demanded. Avocado does not have a substitute and its demand is ineslastic (Inelastic
Demand occurs when a change in price leads to a less than proportional change in quantity

Abstract
In this essay, Erikson Identity Crisis theory and Marcia s four stages of Identity Statuses
demonstrates how adolescences analyze and make decisions about one s identity. Many
adolescences struggle with decisions about where they fit in. Also, in this essay I will explain
how you know you are LGBTQIA and I will discuss why so many adolescence of LGBTQIA
have a hard time fitting in with society. The intent of this essay is to discuss the problems of
LGBTQIA adolescences and why the impact of LGBTQIA is mainly in adolescent ages and the
discrimination based on sexual orientation gender identity.
Adolescence is a dynamically evolving theoretical construct informed through physiologic,
psychosocial, temporal, and cultural lenses. The most readily recognized hallmark of adolescence
is the pubertal metamorphosis or chest rating the visible transformation of a child into an adult.
Development occurs both within the individual and through interactions with the environment. At
the stage of adolescences, it s hard for teenagers to figure out their sexual identity because girls
menstruate cycle begins, the level of adult hormones increases, the pubic hairs begin to grow,
development of sex interest increase, and one begins to wonder who they really are. The process
of accepting one s sexual orientation is particularly difficult for adolescents who identify as
LGBTQIA and face that is not necessarily accepting of anything outside traditional expectation of

Water Scarcity A Growing Threat Of Humanity
Water Scarcity a Growing Threat to Humanity The world s population is growing. The need for
water is rising with the birth of every child. Sooner than most people would want to admit, the
water resources available in the world would be inadequate to cater for the needs of humanity.
As developing countries seek to become industrialized, more water will be needed for their
industries. The developed world is also not slowing down its water usage in its industries. Given
the important part it plays in growth, the world is well in its path to facing its worse season yet:
living without water. When one goes to a country where water problems are real, they find
businesses have made water a prominent factor in determining whether or not to set up and run
their businesses there. No one can afford to bury their head in the sand anymore. The water
problem that is not far away in the future must be addressed now. Water resources by 2050 The
society cannot afford to ignore the fact that water resources are limited. According to IFPRI
(International Food Policy Research Institute), by 2050, there will be 4.8 billion people who will
be struggling with limited water resources. This is over half of the world s population. As the
world s population grows, there will be a greater need for economic development and more food.
Factories producing grain use water more than any other input. In fact, water accounts for almost
half of all inputs in the manufacturing industry across the globe. By

Go Tell It On The Mountain
Go Tell It on the Mountain is a story than many African Americans can relate too. Author James
Baldwin paints a picture of what the post Civil War era was for former slaves and their families.
Many African Americans moved north in areas such as Harlem to find better job opportunities and
to escape the harsh treatment of the Jim Crow laws in the South. As black families were moving to
the North, many saw this as an opportunity to start over. It was a sentiment of being reborn again.
That is why I believe the Pentecostal church was very attractive to many African Americans. The
Pentecostal church gave the African Americancommunity a sense of relief. It was an outlet from
the harsh and cruel treatment that was distributed on a daily basis. The Pentecostal gave the
black community hope just like how Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. There is a parallel to the
Pentecost that the church would lead people to a better life and after their time on Earth is over.
One of the main themes discussed in the book is silence. Silence was mainly discussed in the
section of Gabriel s Prayer . Gabriel is a preacher in the novel. He was once a very ambitious and
wild who felt like he was on top of the world and nothing could stop him. In this part of the book,
his sister, Florence is crying at the altar. This gave him a flashback to when he was crying on a tree
he often sees on a daily basis. He was waiting for a sign from God to cleanse him of all his sinbut

Narrative Essay On Meet Your Foster Mom
I fidget to find a comfortable position in the cheap plastic chair. It s okay to be nervous, assures
Cynthia. I m not nervous, this chair is uncomfortable, I explain. She sighs and rolls her eyes. I
have been at a foster care center for the past three years following my parents death because I do
not have any living relatives. My Dad left me some money, but I can t spend it until I am
eighteen. I ve hated living here. All the walls are painted random bright colors, the sheets are
rough, and every meal is chewy and tastes like cardboard. I finally get to move in with a pair of
foster parents today. Two people enter the room and Cynthia gets up to shake their hands. Meet
your new foster parents, Cynthia says enthusiastically. This is Mel, your foster mom, and Frank,
your foster dad, says the woman. Frank passively stares past me and at the empty parking lot
through the window. He is slouching which makes his round belly stick out even more. Mel is
standing up straight with her lips curled upward and eyebrows raised. She has dark circles under
her eyes that are very obvious on her translucent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

mattress covered with a blue sheets is plopped on the stained brown carpet. The only piece of
furniture in the room is a cherry dresser with peeling wood. I have to jiggle the drawers before

Era Of Good Feelings Dbq Questions And Answers
How did economic policies after the War of 1812 reflect the nationalism of the period?
President James Madison enforced many economic policies that greatly reflected nationalism. The
economic policies included the creation of the second national bank which purpose was to provide
a stronger currency since the former currency was not always reliable and plentiful. Creating a
stronger currency would strengthen the national economy. Another example was the Tariff of 1816
that was issued to protect industries against foreign competition therefore strengthening the
economy. Also, the creation of internal improvements such as canals, roads and developments in
transportation would to improve commerce and economy. These efforts to strengthen the economy
and America in general shows that people were filled with nationalism and wanted to confirm that
America is the greatest nation.
What characterized the Era of Good Feelings?
After Thomas Jefferson left office, James Monroe succeeded him and served as president. James
Monroe s administration left America at peace and also the economy prospered. In Boston
Massachusetts a newspaper was published titled the Era of Good Feelings which characterizes

government has power over the states therefore strengthening the government and economy.
Marshall also declared that a state taxing the federal bank is unconstitutional, in turn saving the
national bank and the economy. The Gibbons vs. Oden case in 1824 helped establish national

Rough Draft About Friendship
Friendship draft
A true friend is someone who would stop whatever they are doing to help you through anything
and you would do the same for them. In a friendship both people need to posses the same
essential traits for the friendship to be successful. Friends are a big part of my life because
without them life would be very dull. I think God made us to find people that we are compatible
with so we can go through life together. Three traits that a person should posses to be a good
friend are honesty, loyalty and encouragement. In my experience my friends who live out all three
of these traits fully, are my closest friends and I hold the same traits back to them.
Honesty is a difficult subject when it comes to friendship. There are two ways it can go. The first
scenario being one lies to their friend because they think they are protecting their feelings. This
case is bad because if you are always lying to your friend they are not going to trust you. The
second scenario is you are always honest to your friend about everything. When you are being too
honest it can be taken offensively and hurt the friendship. True friends find the perfect balance
between the two. They are honest with each other but they discuss topics in a respectful manner....

When you are feeling sad or depressed a true friend will always be right there to pick you up and
encourage you until you feel better. Life is hard and honestly having someone to just say the right
thing at the right time to get you through the hard time. Maybe they will give you that extra boost
to just keep going. I know personally lately I have been having a lot of negativity and jealousy
towards me and I was letting other peoples words get to me, but in that situation I found out who
my true friends are and they encouraged me and that is something I will never

Summary Of The House Of The Scorpion
In the book The House of the Scorpion , by the author Nancy Farmer tells about a clone name
Matt, who enjoys a special status as the clone of El Patron. However, he is in a future where
humans despise clones. El Patron a 140 year old leader of a corrupt empire who nestled between
Mexico and United States of America wants him to be educated, respected, and to be cared for.
The theme of this book is to compassionate and forgiving even if they are you hate them. The
summary of this book is about a boy name Matt. But people treat him like a beast because he
was a clone. He has chicken litter for friends and old chicken bones for toys. But for the lord of
Opium (a strip of land of poppy fields between Mexico and United States of America), El Patron
loves Matt. They also share identical DNA. While Matt tries to understand his existence a
grasping cast of characters is threatening him such as sinister and El Patron s power hungry

name Furball but everyone blamed Matt. For example on page 135 it states, I d feel sorry for
you if you if I had not seen Maria first. And I would feel more kindly if you stepped up and took
the blame. Another is when Felicia or Tom s mother on purposely told Matt to go to the hospital
to apologize to Maria so they could see McGregor or Tom s father clone. For instance on page

Nationalization Of Health Care
If it can t be fixed with Advil, NyQuil, and a good night s sleep, I really don t have a solution for
it. Jaime, like many Americans, does not have health insurance. Under such circumstances, even a
minor illness has the potential to be devastating, while major illnesses can be fatal. Fortunately,
America has several programs to increase access to health care, such as Medicare and Medicaid.
The most important of these reforms is the Affordable Care Act, signed into law in 2010. Many
people question the existence of programs like the ACA due to perceived drawbacks. With
mounting calls to repeal the ACA, this issue is more critical than ever. However, evidence shows
that we absolutely need national health care because it saves lives, decreases... Show more content

Some people claim that mandates under nationalized health care requiring everyone to be insured
are unconstitutional and violate individual liberty, as the government has no right to determine
consumer consumption. However, everyone must pay into the system to offset costs of paying
for the neediest populations. The only way that disadvantaged people can gain insurance is if
everyone purchases insurance. As this affects interstate commerce, mandating participation
legally falls under the jurisdiction of the government by the Commerce Clause. Most of the
international community except for the United States has already decided that access to health
care is a fundamental human right. As a result, the government is able to do what it must to
protect and secure this right. Some people complain that they are being forced to pay for a
service they do not need in order to benefit other people. However, the mandate is good because
it increases effectiveness of national health care while allowing everyone to be prepared for a
worst case scenario. States still have freedom to set their own local policies under nationalized
health care, allaying any fears about unchecked federal power. For example, under the ACA states
can set up required exchanges however they feel would be most efficient

The Impact of Exchange Rate Fluctuation on Macroeconomic...
THE IMPACT OF EXCHANGE RATE FLUCTUATION ON MACROECONOMIC
PERFORMANCE IN NIGERIA
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
This study is designed to examine the causes of exchange rate fluctuations and their impact on the
Nigerian economy since there is scarcely any country that lives in absolute autarky in this
globalised world. The economies of all the countries of the world are linked directly or indirectly
through asset or/and goods markets. This linkage is made possible through trade and facilitated by
foreign exchange. The price of foreign currencies in terms of a local currency (i.e. foreign
exchange) is therefore important to the understanding of the growth trajectory of all countries of
the world.
According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1.2STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
In every country of the world, exchange rate level is the paramount target of economic policy
targeting. In other words, exchange rate policy should be geared towards the attainment of long
term equilibrium rate, so as to achieve certain macro economic objectives e.g. balance of payments
equilibrium, through proper management of the Nigerian exchange rate policy. The country started
operating the floating exchange rate system in 1986 after the introduction of SAP. It was expected
that the country experience development but the reverse was the case because the country
suffered consistent hopeless development situation as her naira depreciates often against other
foreign currencies, especially the dollars which was universally accepted as the global medium of
exchange. Before the floating system was introduced, $1=NO.89 but after that in 1966 we have
$1=N22.05 and even today we have $1=N150.7 .This is quite disheartening, regardless of the
effort of the government of Nigeria through the activities of the regulatory body such as the
establishment of second tier foreign exchange market (SFEM) in 1986 and interbank foreign
exchange market (IFEM) in 1989 and currently the foreign exchange market (AFEM) in 1995.
The depreciation of naira over the years has caused many firms especially the import dependent
firms to suffer many loses as a result of exchange rate fluctuations. This has further led to difficulty

The Factors Of Homicide Suicide
Factors of Homicide Suicide

Kean University Fall 2015
Research Methods
Prof. Fernando Linhares
Introduction This paper is being submitted for research methods at Kean University for the fall
2015 semester to discuss factors of homicide suicide. The variables I will be using in the discussion
will be, male perpetrators, male victims, female perpetrators, female victims, marriage victims and
marriage perpetrators. Murder suicide is defined as a homicide that is followed by the suicide of
the perpetrator within one week, sometimes a max of two weeks in some cases. The definitions
of the variables are as follow. A male perpetrator is a male that has committed the act of homicide
on another human being, than in return take his life within a week of the killing. A female
perpetrator is a female that has committed the acts of homicide on another human being, than in
return takes her life within one week of the killing. A male victims is a male who is the victims of
the homicide. A female victims is a female who is the victimof the crime. Marital status is the
status in which both the perpetrator and the victim are in which each other. It can be classified as
married, separate, divorced or single. Homicide Suicide rates are a growing number in the United
States and the countries around. They were once something that rarely occurred but then they
became the front news of every media and news outlet. Many different things can lead to the result

Character Analysis Of King Henry In William Shakespeare s...
King Henry s rise to the throne in William Shakespeare s Henry V could be likened to the life of
a rich, careless playboy who has to abandon the party life and instead become responsible and
run the family business that gave him his wealth. Henry s life before becoming king was filled
with revelry and tomfoolery in the pubs of London, wasting his time with friends and parties.
But great power and responsibility are thrust upon him after the death of his father. Many of the
people of England and the world, such as the country of France, are skeptical of Henry s ability to
lead a country because of his previous life choices. However, in Shakespeare s play Henry V, King
Henry is portrayed as a strong leader through his character, actions,... Show more content on

Henry has the wisdom to seek the counsel of men whose opinions he trusts. Overall, King Henry
s good character adds to his leadership ability. Good intentions are nothing without a follow
through, and Henry does in fact act as a good leader for England. After ascending to the throne
Henry consistently shows to his advisors and subjects and foreign ambassadors that he is
eloquent in his speech. When he speaks in the play, anyone listening is aware of his intentions;
the clear and articulate speeches for his intentions are never mistaken. Additionally, Henry uses
communication to inspire his subjects during wartime. During the battle of Harfleur, Henry
calls to his troops in lines 1096 1098, But when the blast of war blows in our ears, Then imitate
the action of the tiger; Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood, (n.p.). He inspires them with
fierce words and brave speeches. The best example of Henry s excellent leadership is that he
fights with his troops in the battles against France. He even goes as far lines 2295 2297 to say,
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to day that sheds his blood with me, Shall be
my brother; (n.p.). Henry identifies himself with his troops, which a king, someone of extreme
nobility, would never normally do. However the phenomenal and sacrificial act of fighting
alongside his army as a king and inspiring them with his words makes Henry one of the best
leaders. The last trait of King Henry that

Difference Between Corporate Governance And The Uk Public...
Critically analysis the key differences and similarities between corporate governance in the uk
public and private sectors.
Corporate Governance and laws or regulations related to it affect both the private and the public
sector in the UK. There are key differences and similarities in their corporate governance practice
and can affect how businesses run under governance codes which they must follow. The UK
corporate governance code affects the private sector and focuses on Leadership, Effectiveness,
Accountability, Remuneration, Relations with shareholders. The public sector has Accounts and
Audit Regulations among others to follow which has its own rules and regulations which are
legally required.
Corporate governance in itself has no single definition but common principles which it should
follow. For example in 1994 the most agreed term for corporate governance was the process of
supervision and control intended to ensure that the company s management acts in accordance
with the interest of shareholders (Parkinson, 1994)1. Corporate governance code is not a direct
set of rules but a self regulated framework which businesses choose to follow. This code has
continued to change in the past 20 years in accordance with what is happening in the business
world. For example the Enron scandal caused reform in corporate governance with the Higgs
Report which corrected the issues which were necessary. Although it does not quickly fix problems,
it gives a better framework to

Love And Romance Essay
How has our perception of love changed throughout the centuries? In today s media, our
perception of romance has been distorted due to movies, tv shows, and songs. While in the Middle
Ages, literature and ballads were how most people learned about romantic love. Stories told
through the ages to describe variations of loveas it is found, challenged, lost, denied or thwarted,
only to flare up again, carrying all before it, or else destroying the lovers in a conflagration of
desire . Although, our culture is more open and accepting of relationships, in the Middle Ages,
secrecy and adulterous relationships were normal in order to have love and romance.
In Andreas Capellanus The Art of Courtly Love , in a letter from the Countess Marie of
Champagne, she states that it wasn t possible to experience courtly love with your spouse. Yet,
sexual contact typically had nothing to do with courtly love. Most of us consider sexual acts to
be something shared between lovers. But at medieval court, the term lover referred to the person
with whom someone danced, giggled, and held hands. As long as the rules relating to chastity and
fidelity were strictly adhered to, such as having heirs with your spouse or waiting to have
intercourse until marriage, you could go outside of the marriage to find romance and love . Why
did love and marriage have nothing to do with each other? At the time, noble marriages were often
arranged in order to increase the status and wealth of each family. It

  • 2. The Collapse Of The Space Shuttle Before Columbia In the year of 2003, on February 1, a tragic accident had occurred in the atmosphere above Texas as the space shuttle called Columbia was on it s way to land at the Kennedy Space Center. The shuttle itself was on its 28th mission and was just one of the five space shuttles that was used amongst NASA. But on this particular day, it wasn t like the rest because astronauts are supposed to return home safely; that s not what happened on this day. There were seven astronauts that were inside the shuttle. Their names were Rick Husband, David Brown, Michael Anderson, Laurel Clark, William McCool, Kalpana Chawla, and Ilan Ramon. They had all died in an explosion within the shuttle itself. NASA was trying to figure out how this could ve happened. They ran through many possibilities of what could ve gone wrong and they came to the conclusion that the reason the shuttle had exploded when coming through the atmosphere was because a chunk of foam hilt a wing of the craft. This was suspected to be the reason when tape was analyzed of the takeoff before Columbia went into space. NASA wanted to know if it was the real reason but didn t want anyone else to know of the issues besides them. The Department of Defense had asked permission from the people working for NASA to use orbital spy cameras to analyze the problem. But NASA had said no to their offer and went on to analyze and check the disaster for themselves so that they knew what the problem was. They call this a common check . ... • 3. Analysis Of The Book Watchmen By Dave Gibbons Watchmen written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons utilizes the literary tool of symbols to connect ideas and themes. Time is a major theme throughout the comic and plays a significant part in the structure and outcome of the story. This theme is successfully coupled to the theme of destiny by the use of the clock and other symbols that are present throughout the comic. Symbols such as clocks, the smiley pin, and the graffiti are utilized to efficiently connect the themes of time, justice and the loss of innocence and morality throughout Watchmen. The combination of all of these themes ultimately allude to Ozymandias decision to unleash chaos on Manhattan by foreshadowing his betrayal and explaining how impossible it is to entrench the peace that he has manufactured by unleashing this chaos. The clocks in Watchmen are used to foreshadow crucial future events and connect the themes of morality and time. Other than the literal connection between calling themselves Watchmen and recurring images of actual watches, doomsday clocks and time in general plays a huge part in the arc of the comic s storyline. This is because of the impending destruction that the world is to face at the hands of Ozymandias. Doctor Manhattan s father was a watchmaker before learning that time is irrelevant and therefore useless. Jon himself finds this out through his own experience with time and seeing back and forth through it. This is particularly important because the whole reason he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Emirates Airlines Mission Statement Introduction The company that I have chosen is Emirates Airline. The foundation of Emirates Airline started in the offices of Dnata, when in 1978 Mr Maurice Flanagan became the director and general manager of Dnata. Dnata is a company offering aircraft ground handling, cargo, travel, and flight catering services across five continents. In 1984 Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Mr Flanagan discussed launching an airline in Dubai and with just a 10 man team he produced the business plan for the new airline. The names he proposed were Dubai Airlines or Emirates airline. Finally the decision was made and Sheik Mohammed opted for the Emirates Airlines and decided to launch it on top of the Dnata, which was already settled in the Airline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though Emirates Airlines has had some crisis during their evolution such as the 2001 terrorist attacks which led to the cancellation of all flights going to America. Emirates Airlines have always resisted the temptation of merging and acquisitions. The main reason of avoiding merging and acquisition is mainly because it would lower their flexibility and future decisions would have been done with outside partners. I believe that this ambition of looking at the future has brought them even more up in the airlines markets. Free Competition Emirates Airlines have also decided to allow free competition. This decision has brought benefits for the Airline because the fact of raising competition would mean raise the standards. By doing this they have putted them in a great position because I believe that they are the leaders in continuous innovation and development within the industry. Courage Another main strength of Emirates Airline is their courage in such market and the fact they were never scared of the other competing airlines, such as British Airlines or ... • 5. Comparing Night And Life Is Beautiful You will always define events in a manner which will validate your agreement with reality (Maraboli ). Maraboli s statement explains that the way each person tells their story is defined by how they see reality. The truth of this can be seen in the differences between the book Night (2006) by Ellie Wiesel and the movie Life is Beautiful . Both stories depict the life of a young man sent Auschwitz with their father during the Holocaust. However, despite the similarities of their circumstances at camp, the main characters have two radically different descriptions of what the Holocaust was like. Each character saw the events around him in a different light, therefore, his interpretation of what happened is completely different. In the novel Night and the movie Life is beautiful, the Holocaust is portrayed both similarly and differently through the father/son relationship, the debate between... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Life is Beautiful the audience is given feelings of hope and joy, while in Night readers are given feelings of despair. For example, when Joshua is liberated, he believes that he has won a game and received a tank as a prize. The movie ends when he finds his mother and is overjoyed to see her again ( Life is Beautiful, 2000). The movie , while showing the struggles of the Holocaust, focuses on the positive moments and ends with a happy reunion to leave the audience with hope. When Ellie is liberated, on the other hand, he is sick and only thinks of how hungry he is. The book ends when Ellie looks at himself in the mirror and says, From the depths of the mirror, a corpse was contemplating me (Wiesel, 2006, p. 115). Night ends with a reminder of how the Holocaust damaged so many people forever. Despite the similarities of their circumstances, Joshua and Ellie s stories are framed in dramatically different ... • 6. The Emperor Of The King After Otto had received the imperial crown at Rome (2 February, 962) Liutprand was often entrusted with important commissions, in 963 when he was sent as ambassador to John XII at the beginning of the quarrel between the pope and the emperor, owing to the former s alliance with BГ©renger s son Adelbert. Liutprand also took part in the assembly of bishops at Rome, 6 November, 963, which deposed John XII. Liutprand describes from his point of view these events of 960 64, and sides entirely with the emperor, condemning the Romans very harshly. After the death of the pope, Leo VIII, Liutprand again went to Rome with Bishop Otgar of Speyer, as the emperor s envoy, to conduct the election of a new pope, on which occasion John XIII was chosen. The Bishop of Cremona undertook another mission to Constantinople by order of the emperor in the summer of 968 to ask the Byzantine Emperor to bestow his daughter in marriage on Otto s son, later Otto II. In regards to the Capitulary of the Missi, inhabitants of the district they administered had to provide for their subsistence, and at times they led the host to battle. The missi were protected by a triple wergeld and resistance to them was punishable by death. They were to execute justice, to ensure respect for the king, to control the government of the military dukes and administrative counts (then still royal officials), to receive their oath of allegiance, to let the king s will be known, at times by distributing ... • 8. Microchips in humans Microchips in Humans In today s society, technology continues to find new ways to protect our children and families. Several devises have already been developed to track children when they are away from home. These devises work by GPS signal to track the movement of the child and are worn externally or are imbedded in an item of clothing. There are also GPS devices already approved for implantation in humans. VeriChip was the only Food and Drug Administration approved human implantable microchip for use in medical purposes (DHHS pg. 71702 71704). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In combination with the surgery, the implant represents a permanent intrusion of our privacy. With an implanted microchip, your brain is hotwired into a computer that has a GPS tracking systems to monitor your movements, every minute of every day, for the rest of your life. Just imagine how creepy that really sounds. The concept of privacy for anyone implanted would never exist again. To protect our privacy, we need to better understand its value and the purpose it serves. Privacy is understood as an important barrier that gives us space to develop an identity that is separate from the supervision, assessments, and values of our society. Privacy is crucial for helping us manage all of the pressures that shape the type of person we are in society. Privacy is also used as the groundwork to protect our other fundamental rights. If our right to privacy were compromised then our other rights would soon faultier as well. To implant microchips into human being seems to be a clear case of intrusion of our bodies and our lives. Another reason our government should not allow microchips implanted in humans is that it would serve no real purpose except to track our movements and why should anyone have that much power over any individual. We need to consider the bigger picture as stated in this article: Imagine what the government could do with this kind of technology. If it wanted to, it could use this technology to track literally every movement and behavior of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Monks have abandoned the world for religious reasons and devote their lives, either separately or in a community, to spiritual perfection. The vows of celibacy, poverty, and obedience under which they live, are termed the religious counsels. A person bound by such vows is known as a religious. Chaucer s Monk s sport was hunting. The Rule of good Saint Benet or Saint Maur (Prologue, 177) says hunters are not holy men (Prologue, 182). He does not keep to his studies, but instead would rather be doing labor. • 16. How Does The Brain Drain Be Hot Potatoes Throughout The... For years, brain drain issues have been hot potatoes throughout the world. Brain drain is also academically known as the human capital flight, refers to the large scale migration of highly educated, skilled and talented people of developing countries to highly developed countries of the world (Wikipedia, 2016). The brain drain originated in 1960, when most of human resources like scientists, engineers, and technologists emigrated from United Kingdom to America (Wikipedia, 2016). This phenomenon has become a global issue, and it is happening all over the world in particular for developing countries. China, which is the largest population country with a remarkable economic growth, is also suffering from severe brain drain issues. In recent years, China is one of countries facing the highest loss of top talented people. An official from mainland China s Office of Central Talent Work Coordination Group noted that estimated 87 percent of talented individuals choose to stay overseas, particularly in the fields of science and engineering (Zhang, 2013). China is also considered as the biggest worldwide contributor of emigrants (Wikipedia, 2016). In the United States, Chinese immigrants make up the largest group of arrivals a year and Chinese immigrants are growing in number. The goal of this study was to examine whether sophomore and senior level university students differ in their beliefs about construction and modification of knowledge. Students rated their responses to an Epistemological Beliefs (EB) questionnaire on a 5 point Likert scale. This survey measured students beliefs about constructing and modification of knowledge between sophomores and seniors. Results indicated that sophomores have a more sophisticated epistemological view than seniors. Time spent in school may not be the only factor determining students level of EB sophistication. In Schommer s 1997 study, she found that seniors in high school have a more complex view of epistemology (Schommer, M. 1997). Perry s 1968 study also defends the idea that more education should predict a more complex view of epistemology (Perry, W.G., Jr, 1968). However, it was not clear whether the results would be similar in a university setting. Therefore a test was conducted to find out. Methods 14 sophomores and 22 seniors from Eastern Illinois University participated in this study. Participants were taken from 3 different classes: Honors Intro to Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, and Research Methods. The Wood Kardash (2002) Epistemological Belief Survey was administered to each class in a classroom setting during the Fall semester of 2012. Students rated their responses to EB questionnaire on a 5 point Likert scale. This was done a total of 3 times, once at the begging of the semester, once at the end of the semester, and again at the end of the semester. Before the last survey was administered, the percipients were required to read an article about epistemology. Once all the participants read the article they were then given the survey. According to the article Chimps And Bonobos , this most likely happened because of allopatric speciation which is the separation of a species through physical forces like mountains or rivers that isolate the two groups. The physical force that separated the two species was most likely Zaire River which is also called the Congo River in Sub Sahara Africa. According to Chimpanzee, an example of a homologous structure it shares with its descendants is its relatively large skull. As the animals became more evolved their skull shapes started to change to accommodate for a larger brain. This size difference is shown in Figure 2 because you can see the difference in the brain and skull size of the chimpanzees (bottom) and humans (top) (Chimpanzee). This is because Cranium size is determined by brain size and recent evidence by (Dumas, 2012) shows that this is likely determine by a protein domain called DUF1220. DUF1220 is a domain, a sub section of a gene, which is about 65 amino acids long and expressed mostly in neurons (DUF1220). Research (Dumas, 2012) shows that more copies present in the genome the larger the brain size is in that animal. Humans have 270 copies and the trend goes down from there with Chimps having 125, Gorillas 99 and marmosets 30 and mice just one (Dumas). This research shows the reasons hominids increased in brain size is because there was a mutation that increased the amount of DUF1220 in their lineage which led to gradually larger brain sizes. Since the Chimps split off (Figure 1) before this mutation their brains did not increase in size; hence the reason they are still similar to the common ancestor of both chimps and humans. Recrystallization is a technique when a solute is dissolved in a hot solvent (destruction of the impure crystal lattice) and is then precipitated out of solution as the solvent is immediately cooled (selectively producing a purer lattice). However, that is not to say that active learning is the best option of learning for all. To determine how well students learn while not physically in a classroom we need to evaluate how well learning takes place in on line classroom environments. Skorton (2013) documented that an online course has the potential to transform higher educations with substantial benefits for students, their eventual employers, and participating communities. Therefore, evaluation of learning environments indicates a real measure of the effectiveness of what is learned. Experiments have shown the way that it is beneficial to a person s daily activities or student however; from experiences, there should be a means to demonstrate what is learned. Did learning take place, at least to meet defined objectives from a class or other learning environments? To me learning via collaborative, instructional, and with a team of mixed backgrounds can promote a higher degree (Jones 1995). In many instances, medical discoveries are delayed as researchers vainly waste time, money, effort, and animal lives trying to create an animal model of a human disease (Aavs). As a concern of security no staff member had access to all the data necessary to operate the marketing and sales activities in an efficient manner. Discussion Since Lassiter came on board MSCC several areas have improved within the Marketing department after some reorganization. A growing concern, however was how the MSCC would continue to use Information in an effective manner that drove revenue streams to newer heights. Some of the questions that needed to be considered were: * How would MSCC use information? * MSCC needs central database to enter member information and updates * Database needs to be accessed by marketing department without interruptions * Scalability needs to be built in to allow more functions to be added To meet the growing needs of the MSCC, Lassiter discovered a small software firm that developed an extensive piece of software. • 35. Key Themes In Macbeth In the story of Macbeth there are a myriad of themes that can be explored and analyzed within the text, which become distinct and unique in their own way. As the main character, Macbeth, goes through continuous conflict and self doubt based on the morality of his choices; other characters slowly get assorted within the chaos that ultimately changes and influences the scenes and murders that play out throughout the book. Lady Macbeth(Macbeth s wife) can be attributed to most of her husband s actions as she calls his manhood and pride into question over and over again. Lady Macbeth manipulates her husband into murdering King Duncanand anyone else that threatens their power, which steadily begins to address her own morality as a human being. As the book continues, further on, a sense of guilt can be discovered as part of the aftermath of murdering Duncan. Near the end Lady Macbeth begins to feel a burden of guilt. This burden towards the innocent and brutal murders committed drives her into madness, which ultimately leads to her own death. In essence, Shakespeare s Macbeth suggests a vision of the world in which Macbeth s vaulting ambition and lust for power is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 36. Persuasive Essay About Community Service As an 18 year old tennager, I was forced by my parents to participate a summer volunteer program in my freshman year. Even though I felt that I was a victim of tyranny in the beginning, I realized that I actually enjoyed the process of helping people in the middle of the program. Now, I participate that program every year as an active member, and I have gained the personal enrichment that I am unable to learn from other sources such as math club or SAT preparatory class. There is no doubt that community service can bring essential benefits in helping students develop their moralvalue and future interest, and it should be mandatory because some students attempt to utilize community service as a tool for their own profit without the school supervision. Volunteerismenables students to gain the moral lesson that is vital to their life and develop their future interest. According to source 2, community service teaches us through experience about the relationship between empathy and responsibility, about what it takes to be part of a community, in essence, about human being . While students are helping their community, they learn the crucial moral lessons in the most direct and impressive way. Through an actual experience of volunteering, students are reminded that it is their responsibility to serve for their community because they are a part of it. Analysis Of A Raisin In The Sun A Raisin in the Sun written by Lorraine Hansberry tells the story of a lower class African American family s struggle to gain middle class acceptance when Mama, the sixty year old mother, receives a $10,000 insurance check from the death of her husband. The drama primarily focuses on how the ten thousand dollars should be spent. One of the reasons why Arthur Ashe was famous was because he was African American and in that time period, americans found themselves question the ideals of the country. Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence that all men are created equal , yet africans were segregated from everything; from schools to water fountains. Africans were treated like second class citizens even though many of them have brought fame and honor to the country. The intent of this essay is to discuss the problems of LGBTQIA adolescences and why the impact of LGBTQIA is mainly in adolescent ages and the discrimination based on sexual orientation gender identity. Adolescence is a dynamically evolving theoretical construct informed through physiologic, psychosocial, temporal, and cultural lenses. The most readily recognized hallmark of adolescence is the pubertal metamorphosis or chest rating the visible transformation of a child into an adult. Development occurs both within the individual and through interactions with the environment. At the stage of adolescences, it s hard for teenagers to figure out their sexual identity because girls menstruate cycle begins, the level of adult hormones increases, the pubic hairs begin to grow, development of sex interest increase, and one begins to wonder who they really are. As developing countries seek to become industrialized, more water will be needed for their industries. The developed world is also not slowing down its water usage in its industries. Given the important part it plays in growth, the world is well in its path to facing its worse season yet: living without water. • 44. Go Tell It On The Mountain Go Tell It on the Mountain is a story than many African Americans can relate too. Author James Baldwin paints a picture of what the post Civil War era was for former slaves and their families. Many African Americans moved north in areas such as Harlem to find better job opportunities and to escape the harsh treatment of the Jim Crow laws in the South. As black families were moving to the North, many saw this as an opportunity to start over. It was a sentiment of being reborn again. That is why I believe the Pentecostal church was very attractive to many African Americans. The Pentecostal church gave the African Americancommunity a sense of relief. It was an outlet from the harsh and cruel treatment that was distributed on a daily basis. The Pentecostal gave the black community hope just like how Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. There is a parallel to the Pentecost that the church would lead people to a better life and after their time on Earth is over. One of the main themes discussed in the book is silence. Silence was mainly discussed in the section of Gabriel s Prayer . Gabriel is a preacher in the novel. He was once a very ambitious and wild who felt like he was on top of the world and nothing could stop him. In this part of the book, his sister, Florence is crying at the altar. In my experience my friends who live out all three of these traits fully, are my closest friends and I hold the same traits back to them. Honesty is a difficult subject when it comes to friendship. There are two ways it can go. The first scenario being one lies to their friend because they think they are protecting their feelings. This case is bad because if you are always lying to your friend they are not going to trust you. The second scenario is you are always honest to your friend about everything. Some people claim that mandates under nationalized health care requiring everyone to be insured are unconstitutional and violate individual liberty, as the government has no right to determine consumer consumption. However, everyone must pay into the system to offset costs of paying for the neediest populations. The only way that disadvantaged people can gain insurance is if everyone purchases insurance. As this affects interstate commerce, mandating participation legally falls under the jurisdiction of the government by the Commerce Clause. Most of the international community except for the United States has already decided that access to health care is a fundamental human right. As a result, the government is able to do what it must to protect and secure this right. The economies of all the countries of the world are linked directly or indirectly through asset or/and goods markets. This linkage is made possible through trade and facilitated by foreign exchange. In other words, exchange rate policy should be geared towards the attainment of long term equilibrium rate, so as to achieve certain macro economic objectives e.g. balance of payments equilibrium, through proper management of the Nigerian exchange rate policy. The country started operating the floating exchange rate system in 1986 after the introduction of SAP. The UK corporate governance code affects the private sector and focuses on Leadership, Effectiveness, Accountability, Remuneration, Relations with shareholders. The public sector has Accounts and Audit Regulations among others to follow which has its own rules and regulations which are legally required. Corporate governance in itself has no single definition but common principles which it should follow. For example in 1994 the most agreed term for corporate governance was the process of supervision and control intended to ensure that the company s management acts in accordance with the interest of shareholders (Parkinson, 1994)1. Corporate governance code is not a direct set of rules but a self regulated framework which businesses choose to follow.
