The Ones Who Walked Away From Omelas Essay
Ursula Le Guin s short story, The Ones Who Walked away from Omelas, is Guin s depiction of
the relationship between societies and the maintenance of animalistic instinct in man. Omelas is
described as a luxurious sophisticated Utopia, that is completely self efficient, however it
participates in ritualistic public neglect of some children. They, the society of Omelas, cage
certain children and put their suffering on display for the whole City, and World to see. As the
reader we must ask ourselves what do societies need to be societies? It is clear when looking at
historical context, and the fictional city of Omelas, that societies need an outlet for aggression. The
reason human work cohesively together in society is because of law and... Show more content on

The story says, but they all understand that their happiness... depend wholly on this child s
abominable misery (Guin 5). Why would this be? Look at the negative aspect of successful
societies. Germany right before WW2. Germany was a broke country, with no infrastructure.
The Nazi party gained public traction by assigning hate to the Jewish community. The Nazi
party used Jews as their outlet for public angry. The jews have money when we are poor, the
jews are the reason for Germany s downfall. Germany s infrastructure and economy started to
rebuild at rates never seen before in World economics, simply because the public was connected,
although by hate, such connection made them organized and unified. Germany was prosperous
and advanced for its time much like Omelas. Omelas could be doing a similar thing. This child
is on display, people choose to visit the attraction to relive their built up frustrations or angers.
This child is continuously in agony. This could be, for Omelas, as well as be therapy for the
common man. This might not make sense to sane individuals, but, from a community that has
seen this torture since an early age, it is going to be normalized. If this child fills the gap for society
s worst desires and needs, it would make sense the way Omelas uses it as a tool for unity and

Community College Is A Little Out Of Place
One question that I am often asked after introducing myself is but why are you here though? For
many people that I ve talked to, the thought of a Wisconsinite moving to Michigan for
community college seems a little out of place. For most people, community college is something
that is done before moving to another state for college, not after. However, this was not the route
I was destined to take, and it payed of to be one of the best ones of my academic career, even if it
does come of as a little strange.
If there were one thing that shapes my identity the most, it would be my home. For most of my
twenty year existence, I lived a fairly comfortable life in the sleepy town of West Salem,
Wisconsin. It was the type of town where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One possible beginning stems from my time spend at our said family cabin in the Northwoods of
Wisconsin. Where I could be found spending time reading an atlas for fun as the calming sounds
of crickets, and loons echoed in the distance. Besides my academic interests, many of my
hobbies also came into being there. Whether that be in the form of ukulele playing, reading,
photography, or one of my personal favorites trying new foods (especially of the ethnic variety),
they all exist thanks in part to America s dairyland. My passion for photography, for example, all
began one summer day three years ago when I picked up my Dad s Nikon camera, and began
taking pictures as I hiked through our forty acre property. This is a passion that continues to this
day, and one that I am excited to pursue more while I am here in Michigan. Which brings me to
another part of my story, the move here itself.
My Dad was originally from the Jackson area, and for the longest time I had absolutely no idea
where that even was (well besides a rough geographical area from a finger pointing on to a spot
on his palm.) While I lived in Wisconsin, we barely had time to visit Michigan. Often times only
visiting once every few years, usually around easter. Before the move I barely even knew my
relatives in Jackson, besides the correspondence of a birthday letter, or the occasional phone call.
This all changed, however, one summer day when my Dad sat my sister

Gung Ho, And Other Cases
Introduction The globalization, from society change to economic growth, is happening more
frequently in this world nowadays. Business is one of the most impacted fields of globalization.
For the best development and other reasons, more and more businesses have enhanced their
businesses from local market or their own countries to global width by mergers and acquisitions.
Meanwhile, the conflicts of the mergers and acquisitions occurred as their predictable and
unavoidable consequences, leaders and managers should be able to understand conflicts, indentify
and classify them, and also solve conflicts and dilemmas. There are many kinds of conflicts and

considered having two headquarters, but we realized we need to send a strong, clear message to our

Foreaskin Research Paper
Foreskin Hygiene, Pediatric
The foreskin is the loose skin that covers the head of the penis (glans). Keeping the foreskin area
clean can help prevent infection and other conditions. If this area is not cleaned, a creamy
substance called smegma can collect under the foreskin and cause odor and irritation.
The foreskin of an infant or toddler does not need unique hygiene care. You should wash the penis
the same way as any other part of your child s body, making sure you rinse off any soap. Cleaning
inside the foreskin is not necessary for children that young.
RETRACTING THE FORESKIN
Usually, the foreskin will fully separate from the glans by age 5 years, but it may separate as early
as age 2 years or as late as puberty.
When the foreskin has separated from the glans, it can be pulled back (retracted) so that the glans
can be cleaned.
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Forcing the foreskin to retract can injure it and cause problems.
Children should be allowed to retract the foreskin on their own when they are ready.
KEEPING THE FORESKIN AREA CLEAN
Before puberty, the foreskin area should be cleaned from time to time or as needed.
After puberty, it should be cleaned every day.
Until the foreskin can be easily retracted, wash over the foreskin with soap and water.
When the foreskin can be easily retracted, wash the area under the foreskin in the shower or bathtub:
1 Gently retract the foreskin to uncover the glans. Do not retract the foreskin farther back than is
comfortable. The distance the foreskin can retract varies from person to person.
2 Wash the glans with mild soap and water. Rinse the area thoroughly.
3 Dry the glans when you get out of the shower or bathtub.
4 Slide the foreskin back to its regular position.
Teach your child to perform these steps on his own when he is ready to start bathing himself.
During urination, a bit of foreskin should always be retracted to keep the glans

Thesis On Code Switching
Students Language Attitude towards Classroom Code Switching in the Institute of Teacher
Education
Chapter 01
The Problem and Its Background
Language as a medium of teaching is one of the common factors in the teaching learning processes.
In terms of instructions, some learners fail to do such tasks due to misconception or
misunderstanding. Oftentimes, they were also inattentive in class interactions due to the teacher s
use or choice of words whenever he/she is explaining. In today s 21st century education, it is a fact
that seventy percent of class performance is given to the students while the remaining thirty percent
is allotted to the teacher as entitled to be the facilitator. Throughout the instruction, classroom

The Egyptian Process Of Mummification
The Egyptian Process of Mummification
In ancient Egyptian society, preserving a body after death was an important process necessary for
entrance into an immortal existence.
According to Egyptian belief the soul did not die. The soul would take the form of a bird usually
a falcon and fly around in the world of the living returning later its dead body. The importance of
preserving the body revolved around the idea that the roaming soul would be able to recognize the
right body and return to it. As a result of this theology, Egyptiansdeveloped an effective system of
embalming.
The Egyptian embalming process was a significant and complicated process performed by priests.

The most well known mummies are those of Egyptian Pharaohs. The body of Tutankhamun is the
most renowned fully intact mummy. Several other royal mummies have survived the centuries but
they have been re wrapped and stripped of their jewels. Re wrapped mummies were not properly
completed and were always hurried(for fear of divine retribution). The Egyptians worshipped
several animals. Divine animals such as cats, jackals, hawks, and bulls were allowed the same
mummification privilege as humans. Entire cemeteries were reserved for animals. The cat
cemeteries were situated around Bubastis the center of worship of the cat goddess Bastet.
Underground catacombs house hundreds of thousands of mummified hawks. It was common
practice for visitors to the catacombs to purchase an animal mummy and dedicate it to a specific
animal god in return for a favour.
Nevertheless, most of these animal mummies when unwrapped contained no sacred animal, but
twigs and sawdust. The manufacture of phoney mummies would hundreds of years later in the
eighteen century again generate big business. The process of mummification was so esteemed that
major criminals would not be executed but denied being mummified. In another case, a prince who
attempted to assassinate Ramesses II was mummified alive. The wretched pose of this prince would
suggest he was asphyxiated. Another suggestion, is that the prince was impaled on a

Their romance induces a confrontation between the two ethnic groups. I would like to point out
that Demetrius has never set foot in Africa, he was born in the United States and that Mina and her

racism blinds him to the fact that he survived only thanks to his black African childhood friend,

From the standpoint of Demetrius and Mina s families, they probably do think of it as a black

Demetrius argues with Jay about this point exactly saying, Your skin is just a few shades lighter

own races. When talking about Mina, one woman at the Indian wedding says, You can be dark and

is referring to Mina s light skin and lack of money. Raju is wealthy Indian man who is looking for a

A Change Of A Chromosome Number
A change in a chromosome number is known as Aneuploidy. Aneuploidy is a genetic condition
where an organism acquires fewer or more chromosomes than the normal diploid number. A
monosomic organism has one less than the diploid number of chromosomes meaning the human
zygote will have 45 chromosomes. A trisomic organism has one more than the diploid number of
number of chromosomes i.e. the organism will now have 47 set of chromosomemeaning there are
three homologous copies of one chromosome. It can develop in many ways. For example, during
mitosis a centromere can be deleted as a result a chromosome can be lost. Aneuploidy usually alters
the phenotype drastically because it alters chromosome number but not the DNAsequence. Between

Gene alterations on an organism have profound effects on both cellular and physiological levels.
Aneuploidy can be present in two ways if its present in only certain cells its known as somatic
aneuploidy but its its found in all of the cells then its called constitutional aneuploidy. The effects
of constitutional aneuploidy can be lethal. In humans, a condition known as down syndrome is
caused is due to third copy of chromosome 21 and a third copy in any autosome will always result
in childhood problems. (Hassold TJ, 1984). They can survive but will have significant health
problems and will be mentally affected. Also, the absence of any autosomal chromosomes can lead
to embryonic death.
One of the basic consequences of aneuploidy is the genomic instability. Genomic instability refers
to the change initiated during the life cycle of a cell. Genetic instability is hallmark of aneuploidy
that leads to wide range of changes in the genome of the organisms. These changes can cause
serious effects to the organism these include the chromosome alterations, chromosomal mutations.
The Structural rearrangements of chromosomes are thought to develop from the repair of double
strand DNA breaks (DSB) by non homologous end joining (NHEJ) pathway and its variant,
alternative NHEJ (also known as backup NHEJ) (Quinlan and Hall, 2012).
During a cell division, it is believed that genomic instability is minimized by four major
mechanisms, which include chromosome segregation in

Rat Observation Report
On May 16 2017, my partner and I dissected a rat in Anatomy. I was looking forward to the
dissection, although the thought of cutting a rat open was not very appealing. Although, I do
enjoy partaking in and watching surgeries on YouTube. The sad part though for this lab was that
it would be our last one with Mr.Cantrell. My partner for this lab was Caitlin Ledbetter, as she has
also been my partner for the whole year. Once walking into the classroom, the smell of
formaldehyde filled my senses, making me want to gag. The aroma is not very pleasant, although,
you tend to get used to it after a while. As class began, we were given a packet with the directions

The rat was laid face down on the tray and immediately we were able to distinguish whether it
was male or female. We could tell our rat was male because of the inflamed or overly sized
testes. After Mr.Cantrell gave us advice on how to successfully skin the rat, we began our
dissection. Before we began to cut down the rat, we had to break both of the rats arms and legs
in order to pin it down onto the tray. After doing this and pinning the rat down, we were able to
begin. Caitlin picked up the scalpel and began to cut vertically down the rats stomach. We had to
do this operation very slowly and delicately, otherwise we would cut through the muscle. After
finishing cutting it vertically, we cut across both arms and legs. By then, we were able to peel the
skin back and pin it onto the tray. We weren t able to see the organsyet, therefore we had to cut
through the muscle. By cutting through the muscle, a lot of formaldehyde and bodily liquid began
to pour out which was nauseating yet interesting. We decided to take both the rat and tray over to
the trash can and dish out all of the formaldehyde that was filled inside of the rat s body. After
doing this, we went back to

I walked into a room full of strange faces. No one bothered to look at me because they were so

room was dead silent. Some people were signing about politics, how their day were going, and
the new upcoming events they were going to host. Each person had different facial expressions,
which was so intriguing; I simply could not focus on one person. As I looked around I saw all of
the desks against the wall and a big empty space between everyone. Representation was an
important factor because there was a huge bright poster that had several people demonstrating the

deaf people are proud of their roots because all cultures have their own set of behaviors that are

My Perceptions On The Wild, And The Connections
Avila, Jaron
ID# 23733359
Preface
These writing have allowed the opportunity to expand my perceptions on the wild, and the
connections I have with environments that surround my daily encounters. I have compares some
of these experiences to the readings such as To build a fire and Buckeye , as both stories convey
ideas of survival, sentimental values, and inner connections with nature and learning to understand
it better as individuals. This has been a great opportunity to relearn the ideas we conceive about
nature and how in some ways, we as people take for granted. It is important to understand these
refreshed ideas about nature, to better ourselves as humans and to care for the environments we call
home.

physical being feel refreshed, rejuvenated, tempered down to a slow pace and feeling relaxed.
After jumping in and eagerly swimming around the shallow coves, I swim back to the ledge
where I had been sitting, and from which I was taking in the view. The warm humid breeze and
the clouded sun dry me with ease and I hardly notice. I continue to embrace and enjoy the visual
beauties of Hawaii, feeling blessed to have this privilege.

There were a few reasons why I decided to write about the coast of Hilo bay. The main reason
was it had an open area to observe, and that it was not secluded and close quartered as some of
the other areas I thought of. This area felt more accessible to particular subjects I could touch on,
rather than having to feel limited. Hilo bay is open wide with its brisk coastal breeze and the
ocean waters, offering a sense of purity and oneness with nature. It would be hard to imagine if
others thought this was a place of dread or unsettledness, though I could imagine that others might

Coming Of Age By Margaret Mead
Through Margaret Mead s ethnography, in the book Coming of Age in Samoa, we learn about
the lives of women in Samoan culture. Young girls of Samoan culture have very little freedom in
the beginning of their lives. Girls are expected to take care of the infants in their families until
there is a younger and more capable girl that can provide care. Taking care of the babies in the
familyis a Samoan girl s main responsibility as a child. The author further explains, She also
develops a number of simple techniques. She learns to weave firm square balls from palm
leaves, to make pin wheels of palm leaves or Frangipani blossoms...But in the case of the little
girls all of these tasks are merely supplementary to the main business of baby tending (Mead 20).
At a young age women are expected to attain skills in certain household tasks that help provide
towards their Samoan families.
Weaving is a household task that a Samoan girl is required to learn and become very skilled at.
She learns different techniques and styles of weaving which help Samoan families throughout
their everyday duties. Usually the older women of the household teach the younger girls how to
weave. When a girl is 13 or 14 she is expected to weave a fine mat. The fine mat represents the high
point of Samoan weaving virtuosity (Mead 24). This fine mat takes about 1 to 2 years to
complete. Often these fine mats are not finished until a girl is about 19 or 20 years of age. It is

Mead Halls In Beowulf
In Beowulf, many parts of the story have realistic and true qualities, one of those qualities is the
quality of how and where they lived. In the pre medieval era, mead halls were commonplace in

ancient times. Lords ruled from them, and enemies would to try to loot from them. Mead halls
in the Anglo Saxon culture were used for many reasons, among them, bragging rights. Mead
halls conveyed a message of power and strength that are still heard today, not by the factions and

Thesis On 12 Angry Men
Twelve Angry Men
In the 1957 MGM film, Twelve Angry Men, a young boy from the slum is on trial for allegedly
stabbing his father to death. The jury from New York City is forced to have 12 men agree as to
whether the boy is guilty or not guilty. If they decide not guilty, the boy is set free; if he is found
guilty, the boy will receive the death sentence. In the beginning all but one agreed the boy was
guilty; Juror 8, Mr. Davis, argues that the boy deserves some deliberation. Mr. Davis changed the
other eleven jurors minds by using his core values such as keeping an open mind, staying humble,
and believing every life is valuable. By keeping an open mind, Mr. Davis was able to look into the
details of the facts presented and create an argument as to why the boy could perpetually be not
guilty. Henri Bergson, a French philosopher, said The eye sees only what the mind is prepared to
comprehend. Everyone but Mr. Davis came into the room closed minded and was unable to see a
different perspective. They were unable to understand, sympathize and make sense of the
argument Mr. Davis was making. Mr. Davis was able to persuade one man to have an open mind;
juror number five. The two men then began to look further into the details of the evidence. This is
when they discovered the eye glass indents in the nose bridge of the woman witness. They
discussed the possibility of the woman having the ability to actually see through a moving train,

Direct Advertising In The Pharmaceutical Industry
The human body experiences a powerful gravitational pull in the direction of hope. That is why
the patient s hopes are the physician s secret weapon. They are the hidden ingredients in any
prescription, this quote by journalist, Norman Cousins, embodies a controversial aspect of the
current pharmaceutical industry. Who doesn t fear death or sickness? Taking care of our bodies is
extremely important, since we only have one. In modern days there are all kinds of unnatural drugs
to help us advance in our daily routines. Our normal every day troubles can be easily manipulated
by drug advertising companies, making people fear that they have a problem. The pharmaceutical
industryadvertises prescription drugs to doctors and consumers trying to make the most profits and
keep up with competitors. The more prescriptions written, the more profit the company makes.
There has been controversy with pharmaceutical companies because it is one of the most important
and largest industries in the world. The pharmaceutical drug industry has to have the FDA approve

Questioning the Normal American Family in American Beauty
American Beauty, released in 1999, was a tragic comedy, created by Sam Mendes. The movie had
audiences questioning the ideal American family. You see the usual midlife crisis that most people
go through but watching further uncovers a deeper conflict of feeling oppressed with what society
considers a normal life. The movie has many connecting themes through plot, characterization, and
cinematography and these themes carry well throughout the movie. The main themes are listed
accordingly, appearance versus reality, loneliness versus feeling connected, denialand repression,
and beauty.
A theme that is consistent throughout the movie is of empty promises of materialism. From afar
the Burnhams seem to have the American Dream: a nice house in the suburbs, children, cars and
good jobs. The Art Culture Film website describes them as trapped by the ideology of the
American Dream (Structural 1). Carolyn Burnham unnaturally obsessed with materialism and
other s opinions of them (Newman 8). She has an obsession with her material items that she
owns and to her they equal success. Mendes shows us a scene where Lester is trying to show
passion by kissing Carolyn on the couch but all Carolyn could worry about was the beer almost
spilling on the couch. Lester, frustrated, yells, It s just a couch! to which she replies that it is not
just a couch, but one that cost $4,000 and is upholstered in Italian silk. In another scene where
Carolyn fights with her daughter, she yells at Jane

Refugee Crisis Essay
Refugee crisis is a global societal problem for two major reasons; it is causing great suffering to
societies across the globe. Among the sufferings, include unmet goals in life, death of civilians and
separation of families. The second reason is that it is slowing down global integration and progress.
The failure to resettle refugeescondemns them to poverty and cuts them off from normal lives being
led by other people. The situation created is one where not every human on earth gets to enjoy
equal human rightsjust because some are refugees.
Solutions to the Refugee Crisis
To generate solutions for the refugee crisis, the existence of refugees cannot be wished away. If it
could, the first pursuit would be stability in countries that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, the UN currently has plans to annually resettle 10% of the refugees. This plan has been
affected by underfunding since the rich nations are distancing themselves from the responsibilities.
The UN is greatly underfunded as it stands. The challenges notwithstanding, an immediate solution
that qualifies as a starting point is the resettlement of the vulnerable individuals among the refugees
(Tufekci, 2015).
The vulnerable individuals are people with special needs ranging from severe psychological trauma
to physical challenges. Torture victims need resettlement as soon as possible and put under therapy
before their mental state deteriorates. This group of the vulnerable also include individuals with
special medical conditions who cannot survive the conditions in refugee camps any longer.
Statistics indicate that presently, over 1.2 million refugees need emergency resettlement. This will
also ease the crowding at the refugee camps and set the solution to the refugee crisis in motion
(Tufekci, 2015).
Adoption of a More Humanitarian Approach
As it stands, countries are handling the refugee issue from an economic point of view. Other
countries are more focused on national superiority that they would not help a dying person. Reports
indicated that thousands of people who were fleeing persecution in Myanmar in May 2015 suffered
for weeks due to reluctance by Thailand,

In the last few years, the industrial production in India has redeveloped; and especially in the last
few months; as the industrial output expanded to 2.7% compared to that in 2016.
Add to that the increase in the production of capital goods by 10.7%, with the growth in basic
goods output yet at a slower pace.
Annually, the average growth in industrial production recorded an increase by 0.7% in less than a
year (five months).
We can see that India has one of the fastest growing major economies. It is also known as a modern
industrialized country.
Future speaking, Focus Economics Panelists expect a 4.9% increase in industrial output for the

High Graduation Rate Is The Best Fit For Me
Another action step I need to engage in, is finding graduate schools in North Carolina that will
be the best fit for me. There are currently four fully accredited occupational therapy programs in
North Carolina. Although I am not picky about the city the school is in, I would like for the

A Survey On Product Development Surveys
5. Surveys :
Whenever we want to launch a new product to the market, it is very important to do market
research with product development surveys. This kind of surveys help to know whether such a
product will really work, long before you ve invested in a product launch.
The survey is usually divided into two parts :
Survey introduction: Creating the correct introduction is the most important part of developing a
survey. Majority of potential respondents will decide whether or not to drop out of the survey
based solely on the introduction. The introduction will set the tone for the rest of the survey.
Without providing the correct information your respondents may feel uncomfortable or suspicious
of the research study. So when you create your introduction, look at your survey from the
perspective of the respondent. Remember, each respondent has to decide whether they are going to
provide you with their personal information. The best advice is to try to predict if there are any
concerns a respondent may have, and address them immediately in the survey. Always add the topic
and purpose of the survey, expected time to complete it, a confidentiality statement, reward
information if there is any and finally a thank you note.
Survey questions: Good survey questions lead us to getting reliable responses that will help to
achieve our product goals. The key points to remember while creating survey question are, always
give respondents an option of I don t know as many

Why Do We Need to Understand Group Dynamics to Understand...
I.Introduction To understand Organizational Behavior and Management, we must study three
different levels. The first is the individual level, because every individual has its own unique
perception of the world and what surrounds him. Individuals behave following how they interpret
this and their environment. Each individual is different from the next one, because of its
personality and characteristics. However, it s possible to organize them by categorizing their
perceptions. Categories such as Appearance, Social behavior and Status are often considered.
Individual s motivations must be analyzed to understand the next level : the Group. A Group is
composed by 2 or more individuals, who come together to accomplish a particular task or... Show

If members are attracted to the group because they like members of the group, or the group
activities/goals or just because it fills a need for affiliation, they are more likely to be
productive. The size of the group also has an influence on the group s performance. According to
recent research, medium sized groups of 5 to 7 people seem to have the higher performance in
organizations. If the group is smaller, there s a chance it can highlight the individual differences
and harm the group cohesiveness. If group are too large, people tend to work more by
themselves ( Free riding ) rather than with the whole group, or create smaller teams within the
group. c)Group norms. Norms are acceptable standards of behavior within a group that are shared
by the members of the group. Norms define the limits of what is acceptable and what is not in
terms of behavior. They are typically imagined in order to facilitate group survival, make behavior
more predictable, avoid embarrassing situations, and express the values of the group. Each group
will establish its own set of norms that may determine anything from the appropriate clothes to wear
at a dinner to how many comments to make in a meeting. Groups pressure members to force them
to conform to the group s standards. The norms often reflect the level of commitment, motivation,
and performance of the group. The majority of the members of the group must agree that the norms
are appropriate

Essay on Babies in the Workplace
Babies in the Workplace As we move into the new millennium more and more employers are
allowing, some are even encouraging, their employees to bring their newborn babies to work
with them. This is probably one of the greatest changes in child care norms that this country has
seen in the past 30 years. Once upon a time, when a woman had a baby she almost always quit
her job to raise her child, depending on her husband to support her and her child. Then along came
the idea of maternity leave. This is when a woman takes a certain amount of time off to be with
newborn. Once this time period was up, the woman still had a job to go back to. This meant that
women no longer had to rely on their husbands for support. Unfortunately it also... Show more

The change in policy that allows women and men to bring their newborn children to work with
them is, in a sense, just one more change in our country norms and values. At one point leaving
your child with a baby sitter or at a daycare center all day was considered being a bad parent,
meaning it was the norm to stay home and take care of your child yourself. Then, as divorce
rates went up and more women were forced to raise their children on their own, that changed
and it became the norm for women to go back to work after a set time for maternity leave. This
also made sending you child to a daycare center or leaving them with a babysitter the norm since
you couldn t be there to take care of your child. With women being allowed to bring their babies
into work with them, that is again changing the norms of society, specifically those having to do
with the care of children. Women used to be given a hard time when they brought their children
into work with them, even if it was only for a matter of minutes. Now many of them are allowed
to bring their children in for a whole day, every day. This is enabling women to care for their own
children and raise them in their own way with their own values, instead of entrusting those
important responsibilities to someone else. Mothers are also forming a closer bond with their
children in an important time in a child s development. This will lead to a stronger bond later

The Grand Nursing Theory Chosen By The Future Apn Is Roy...
The grand nursing theory chosen by the future APN is Roy s Model of Adaptation. In 1970,
Sister Callista Roy identified the need for conceptual frameworks to be developed in order to
have a foundation from which to build nursing knowledge. She developed the Model of
Adaptation based on her theory that all patients must adapt to his/her given situations; we as
nurses must guide and encourage positive adaptation for our patients (Roy, 1970). Roy s grand
theory addressed all four of Fawcett s concepts identified in her meta paradigm of nursing,
adding an additional concept, adaptation. Roy referred to the concept of person as man,
identifying man as a biopsychosocial being who received a nurse s services. Roy identified the
environment as any and all focal, contextual, and residual stimuli (1970). She addressed the
concept of health as an aspect of a man s life, lying somewhere along the health sickness
continuum (Roy, 1971). In regards to the concept of nursing, Roy identified nursing as a duty that
helps and encourages man s response to environmental stimuli (1970). The additional concept,
adaptation, was identified by Roy as man s encounter and reply to any given stimuli. This reply
can be positive or negative (Roy, 1970). In addressing all the concepts identified by Fawcett as
nursing s meta paradigm, Roy strengthened her grand theory s foundation thus adding strength to
the foundation of nursing. In using Roy s framework as a model with which to view the chosen

The Myth Of Endometriosis In The Human Body
If one breaks down endometriosis, one will find that it means an abnormal condition of the lining
inside a uterus. Specifically, the tissue that is inside the uterus will form on an external structure.
This has unpleasant consequences when a tissue made for a certain region of the body is acting
elsewhere. This condition will mainly affect women and young ladies during their most
reproductive years and can affect them both physically and mentally (Reich et al., 2016). Even
though most cases are, it is a myth that endometriosisoccurs exclusively in women over twenty
years of age. This disease can begin in a body as soon as the female obtains her first menstrual cycle
and will unfortunately persist over a lifetime in the body unless an act of... Show more content on

The basal layer of the endometrium produces the external functional layer, and if the basal layer
is not removed, then the disease will continue to grow back. This is why laparoscopic excision
surgery is the optimal treatment for endometriosis. This procedure will act to remove the
deepest layer of the endometrium like tissue. Reich et al. (2016) mentions that receiving a
hysterectomy is not the best way to get rid of this condition, even though a large majority of
people have come to believe this is true. As previously discussed, endometriosis can spread to
areas other than reproductive organs, so pain will persist even after removal of the entire uterus.
Pain killers, oral contraceptives and IUDs are common methods for pain treatment and slowing
the disease. However, as soon as one is eligible for the diagnosis of endometriosis, laparoscopic
surgery to remove all layers of disease should be amongst the top considerations to rid the body of
this abnormality, for it has proven to be the most

Equality 7 2521: A Lone Scholar Living in a Society of Street Sweepers
Robert Green Ingersoll, a lawyer, Civil War veteran, and political leader, once said that It is a
blessed thing that in every age some one had had the individuality enough and courage enough to
stand by his own convictions. In Ayn Rands novel Anthem, Equality 7 2521 represents this salient
being. Equality has never been destined to be a street sweeper, instead, it is a sinister motive of the
Council that determines his position. This is proven by several aspects throughout the book,
encompassing the idea that Equality has been set aside from society from a young age, Equality is
an individual in a communistic society, and that the Council has had unjust determinations ... Show

Equality is often locked in the cellar as a child, more so than the other children, for being taller
and more intelligent than his teachers. In Anthem s society, It is not good to be different from
[your] brothers, but it is evil to be superior to them (Rand 21). This saying, told to Equality
multiple times by his teachers for excelling in his lessons, indicates that Equality is evil, for being
intelligent. He often understands the subject matter of his lectures before the teachers have even
completed the curriculum. Equality himself states that No single one can possess greater wisdom
than the many Scholars who are elected by all men for their wisdom. Yet [I] can. [I] do (54).
Equality is one of the smartest mortals in his society, and he even goes so far as to say that he is
more intellectual than members of the Home of the Scholars. Equality s treatment by his teachers
justifies that his occupation as a street sweeper was a sinister motive because his intelligence could
lead to him surpassing the influence of the Council, if citizens decide to depend upon the man

A comparative study of Shakespeare s play, The Tempest and Yojiro Takita s film, Departures
reinforce the concept that an individual s competency to recognise the connotations of foreign
contexts, leaves lasting impacts on their perspectives of the world and those around them. Both
composers incorporate the vital idea that characters confrontation with morality induces
developments of change and subsequently reflect integral actions of compassion. The Tempestsets
the discourse of an abortive revenge drama that focuses on Prospero and his outlook on humanity

Takita emphasises the flaws of the human condition through Daigo as he starts his first day
working with a rotting corpse. Medium shots are employed to highlight Daigo s body language
where he forces himself to close his eyes and tries to stray away from the body. Such techniques
strongly suggest distaste and disturbance as systematic responses whilst illustrating the extent of
which the impacts of discovery can be provocative in confronting world values. Takita s
manipulations with camera work effectively triggers automatic disfigured expressions in the
audience, reminding them of their weaknesses whilst encouraging consideration for actions in
response. This perspective of weakness and violation is further emphasised with the utilising of
close shots where it captures Daigo washing himself like someone who has a cleaning disorder.
Daigo s sense of affliction fully encompasses the concept confrontation instigates a process of
emotional discovery as inevitable actions for attempts to accept universal truths of weakness and
the inevitability of death. Thus positioning us to view such conflicts with sympathy as while

Plato s Theory Of Forms
In Platonism, few philosophical theories are as essential as the theory of Forms. This is besides
the fact that it is generally overlooked in many of Plato s writings even though it lays the
foundations to many other theories of his. The Republic is where the theory is first mentioned,
followed by discussion in Phaedo and criticized in Parmenides and Timaeus thereafter. (These
works will be further discussed later throughout the essay.) Platos theory of Forms, (sometimes
referred to as the theory of Ideas) states basically: that which is made of matter and can be
physically perceived by a human through one of his five senses does not represent true reality.
The realm of ideas and abstract thought is in fact the ideal representation of reality. (When used in
this manner, the first letter of form is usually capitalized). The aim of this essay is to identify
What is a Form? and What are the critiques of Plato s theory of Forms?
According to the theory, a Form is technically bound to nor space or time. A Form does not exist
as a material object and therefore cannot exist in three dimensional space. Because this is true of
a Form, it consequently can neither exist at any particular given point in time. In truth, Forms can
only be sensed by the intellect, but they are not bound to the confines of one s mind. Forms exist
outside of the mind itself. Occasionally referred to as Ideas , Plato s original term in Greek for
Form was eidos .
As stated earlier, Forms do not depend

The astrology signs go in this order: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio,
Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces. You ve probably heard about fire signs, earth signs, air

So what does a fire sign mean? These signs tend to burn hard and fast. They start strong and then
can flame out just as quickly as they began. Do you know a person with a Aries, Leo or Sagittarius

Earth is much more slow and grounded. Much more practical and even tempered. Less likely to
have a very wide range of emotions and more likely to be stubborn and set in their ways. This
goes for Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn Sun signs. Again, if a person with a Taurus Sun happened to
have other planets in their chart that had lots of fire say Mars in Leo and Moon in Aries, then you
would see a better blending of emotion and action. If this same Sun in Taurus person also had a

The Issue Of Paid Parental Leave
INTRODUCTION
Is America falling behind the rest of the world in terms of the services it provides? As a proud
citizen of this great nation I, unfortunately, have to say yes. Our once outstanding country has been
falling behind in a number of areas including technology, education, economics, and yes, even in
family care! America is now one of only three industrialized countries that hasn t set up a
nationwide policy for paid parental leave. With this knowledge I desired to know more,
particularly if we as a nation are not doing much to rectify the situation. Then, to learn if any
states were doing something about this issue which effects so many people in the workforce. I
wanted to see exactly how far behind, compared to the rest world, we are in the issue of paid
parental leave. The Pew Research Center conducted a study of government supported leave in
38 OECD countries, and found that the US had the lowest figures with zero weeks of paid leave.
Though we did fare better when it came to the number of weeks provided for protected leave
with 12 weeks. We were still far worse than most other OECD countries (see Figure 1 at right).
Knowing that we were rated worse I wanted to know what people are saying that we can and
should be doing to change this situation?
BACKGROUND
The first recorded policy involving working pregnant women was in 1877 in Switzerland. It stated
that a women could not work for at least six weeks after giving birth. Then in 1878 Germany

The Building Sector Affects The Society
Executive Summary
The building sector affects the society in various ways: economically, socially, naturally, and built
environmentally. In a more direct or indirect manner, the various building activities including
designs, construction, use, refurbishments, as well as demolition of the buildings affects the
environmental performance differently. In bringing environmental issue into the context, it is true
that a feature of environmentally sustainable is not only comfortable to occupy, but also consume
small amount of energy. Studies argue that the major goal of sustainable design involves reducing
or ultimately eliminating depletion of natural resources and degradation of environment due to the
infrastructures and facilities made by man. Although various factors are barriers, this situation calls
for a better ways of approaching the building activities that are environmentally sustainable.
Building policies plays critical role in reducing environmental impacts although little research has
been done as far as this sector is concerned. These policies should focus on codes for environmental
sustainability of building designs that establishes better planning practices, designing as well as
constructing buildings with environmental concerns of the impacts of the build structures (Davies,
2004).

in molecular and cellular biology, biotechnology and medicine. We classify these technologies as
either active or passive. Active systems generally use external fields (e.g., acoustic, electric,
magnetic, and optical) to impose forces to displace cells for sorting, whereas passive systems use
inertial forces, filters, and adhesion mechanisms to purify cell populations. Cell sorting on
microchips provides numerous advantages over conventional methods by reducing the size of...

Meanwhile, the growing interest in theranostics and personalized medicine, in which treatments
are tailored to the prognoses of patients, is further driving the demand for rapid and high
performance cell sorting. This review will survey recent developments in microchip cell sorting
by organizing each technology into one of three principal categories based on its primary cell
recognition modality: (i) fluorescent label based, (ii) bead based, and (iii) label free cell
sorting. Within each category, several subsections are provided to further categorize each
technology by the physical principles governing the sorting process. We emphasize more recent
technologies, especially those that integrate multiple functions on the same device toward a
fully integrated point of use device. II. FLUORESCENT LABEL BASED CELL SORTING
Fluorescent label based cell sorting relies on fluorescent probes or stains to identify cells by
type. In traditional FACS, fluorescently labeled cells organized in a laminar flow stream
encounter a focused laser beam that scatters into a detector. The fluorescent signal is then
analyzed to assign each cell a type for discrete sorting, whereby in the case of FACS, each cell is
encapsulated into an aerosol droplet that is charged and

Essay on A Comparison of Christian and Islamic...
A Comparison of Christian and Islamic Architecture in Spain
By the 6th century a Germanic tribe called the Visigoths, converts to Arian Christianity, had
established themselves as the aristocratic elite. The Christians built many monumental basilica plan
churches. The Santa Maria de Quintanilla de las Vinas, Burgos, Spain and San Juan de Banos de
Cerrato are two such churches that still remain today. In the beginning of the 8th century Islamic
Muslims conquered Spain and ended Visigothic rule. They constructed militaristic and religious
architecture including castles, watchtowers, rock castes, the Great Mosque, and the Red Palace.
The remaining Christians adopted some of the Islamic styles and soon built upon a new style that

The Moors also built atalayas, or watchtowers and rock castles that served as part of the defense
system for the castle. The watchtowers were used as communication devices for castles that were
great distances apart. The watchtowers would signal the castle in case of an enemy attack by using
smoke and mirrors. They built rock castles, or small defense castles high on rocks, using the natural
terrain to the maximum effect. Since the rock castles were small they did not house many soldiers.
Another important Islamic site is situated in Cordoba, southern Spain, along the banks of
Guadalquivir river (the Great River). Cordoba served as the capital of the Caliphate of Cordoba.
Cordoba houses the famous Great Mosque or Gran Mezquita, the largest mosque in the Western
World. The interior of the mosque consisted of a mirhab, a niche that separates the qibla wall from
the others. The mirhab was intentionally positioned facing Mecca for the faithful who prayed in
that direction.
The mosque can be identified by its elaborate squinch supported domes. The Great Mosque of
Cordoba is one of the finest surviving examples of Umayyad architecture in Spain. The mosque
has marble capitals and columns in the hypostyle prayer hall. A person enters the hall through an
open courtyard called a sahn. Its famous horseshoe arches have an alternated pattern of pale stone
and red brick voussoirs

Residential Paintings
As a homeowner there is nothing more exciting than the idea of painting your home yourself. A
fresh coat of paint makes everything look so much better right? You can choose colors for the
inside or the outside and just get to work! Maybe you will even use a paint sprayer because they
look like they get the job done fast!
Are you out of your mind? Have you thought about the work involved, especially if you are
considering doing your own exterior painting? All of the scraping and cleaning that needs to be
done, the preparation for laying on a new coat of paint and the small repairs that are going to be
inevitable are going to be your job. If you have experience, and time then go ahead and jump right
in there and get that job done. If you don t have any experience it might be time to think about
painting services. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A reputable painting company should be able to provide these.
Find out if they are experienced with house painting. Residential painting is very different from
commercial. If you need interior painting, make sure to specify. Talk to people who have had
similar jobs done for them. This is a great way to find a good painting service.
Ask for what materials and paint they are using. Make sure everything is quality. Quality lasts
longer and always makes for a much better finished product no matter what the painters skill.
Ask about a warranty! These are worth the money as they often deal with touch ups and other paint
issues inside and outside of your home. This can save you a lot of stress in the future.
If you have any other concerns such as environmental friendliness then it is up to you to ask
pertinent questions. You are the customer, and you are inquiring about purchasing their services
which should be reputable and consistent. Ask for a list of the products they plan to use on your
home. If you do not like their selections, you can always supply your own

Great Gatsby Disillusionment Analysis
The Great Gatsby is a tale of of the rich and their fantastical fancies. This novel has become
representative of America s roaring twenties and Fitzgerald praised posthumously for his work.
However, Sven Birkets states that The Great Gatsby is a story of disillusionment and hope and I
must say that I agree with this assertion. By reading carefully and looking into the hidden messages
of The Great Gatsby, readers will begin to have a glimpse into the heads of the rich, seeing and
feeling their outlandish problems and pastimes. Jay Gatsbyis a prime example of these fevered
dreams and the Buchanans represent how deceiving these illusions can be at their point of
culmination. Gatsby spent all of his time after the war dreaming of Daisy and... Show more content

Although their relationship is strained there is still something between them that keeps them
together which Gatsby just can t see or understand. To him Daisy loved only him and no one
could compare, but somehow Tom did, he had taken the place that Gatsby left unattended during
the war. Tom appeared in Daisy s darkest hour, She wanted her life shaped now and the decision
must be made by some force... That force took shape in the middle of spring with the arrival of
Tom Buchanan. (151) Daisy grew up over in those short years that Gatsby was away, and with
her maturity came a change that would eventually pierce the wonderful world of Gatsby. The
Buchanan family was the result of this change, although the couple has quiet disputes, as all
marriages contain, they remained together and strong. Their bond remaining strong was when
Gatsby finally began to become disillusioned with his paradise, but he was determined and
hopeful to the bitter end. Throughout the novel, Gatsby is throwing parties and hoping Daisy
will wander in, he finally finds a link to her in Nick and hopes she will sit with him in front of a
fireplace one more time, and even when defeated by Tom, Gatsby remains ever faithful, watching
over Daisy all through the night. This fighting spirit is held back by Tom, who needs to feel like he

Similarities Between 70 And 70
The 70 s v. 2017 Life in the 70 s was very different than it is today. When you compare the 1970s
to 2017 you can see the huge differences, and maybe some similarities. A lot has changed since
the 70 s, including the style, lifestyle, pop culture, and more. Since the 70 s a lot has changed, we
have changed in some ways and are similar in more ways than one. Here are the differences and
similarities between the 70 s and today, 2017. In the 70 s the first president of the decade was
Richard Nixon, he was the 37th president and was in office 1969 1974. Eventually Gerald Fordheld
office after Nixon resigned to avoid the eventual outcome of Watergate, which would have led to
impeachment. Jimmy Carter then served as president in years 1977 1981, with Walter Mondale
as vice president. Today in 2017 we have Donald Trump and Mike Pence, and people are begging
for Trump to be impeached, similar to Nixon. Though people do see impeachment in Trump s
future, but some do not. Another difference since the 70 s is the inflation of the dollar. A dollar
in 1970 is worth $6.30 today, which is a 530.0% increase. A dollar in 1979 is worth $3.37, which is
a 237% increase. When comparing the 70 s to today it is always best to compare the cost of
living. In 1970 minimum wage was $1.60, today in New Mexico minimum wage is now $9.25. A
year of tuition at a public college was about $1,200 in the 70 s, according to the college board, the
average student payed about $9,650 for tuition. In January of

Briar Rose Case Study
Top 2 5 things that happened:
When Rebecca s grandmother died, she had made a dying promise to her, which is to find the
castle and the prince from her tale about Briar Rose. This is an important event to the story that
made Rebecca question about Gemma s past.
Becca found a box full of old pictures of Gemma leading all the clues to a place called Kulmhof.
Kulmhof is not an ordinary place, it was a concentration camp no, it was a place of extermination.
Harvey had said that no woman nor a man had ever escaped the extermination camp alive. This is
important because this is providing us a pathway to Gemma s past.

revealed that two men and one woman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gemma had always been secretive about her past and no one in the family even knew her real
name, let alone where she came from or how she came to be in the United States. Becca had
made a promise to her dying grandmother which leads her to a remarkable journey to uncover the
truth about Gemma s astonishing claim, I am Briar Rose . What would Becca find about Gemma s
real identity? Who is Gemma really is?
The story of Briar Rose is a mysterious, interesting, and sometimes depressing book which keeps
you on the edge of your seat to find out what twist will happen next. It is a darker version of the
fairy tale, so if you pick it up don t be surprised expecting something like Disney s Sleeping Beauty
because this is not an ordinary fairy tale that has witches or curses.
The story follows the same general lines as the fairy tale BUT one major change is that it was
taken during the Holocaust, some of these events did happen, making it a story that strikes deep.
This book makes it the perfect story that makes you jump around in different time periods and
perspective. The fairy tale of Briar Rose was the only tale Gemma is always talking about when
Rebecca and her sisters were young, but was it a fairy tale or real life she was talking about to her

The Enlightenment And The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment was a change in the hearts and minds of men. It left a significant impact on the
world we know today and gave us great men to remember. The Enlightenment was a intellectual
movement that brought change to the views of Christianity, the importance of reason, the
understanding of nature and humanity, and the equality of man. Those of the later will be the
focus of this paper. Curiosity for understanding the natural world led to new scientific exploration
as well as new discoveries. The philosophical aspects of the period made their way into effecting
politics from its time and on. The Age of Enlightenmentbegan in the early 17th century and
officially continued into the 18th century. The movement at the time held high praise for
intellectual developments made with its roots in reason. This was so much so that the movement
was also known as the Age of Reason. This basis that the world and humanity could be bettered
through the application of reason spread from the influence of Greek philosophy1. Greek
philosophy played a role in the development of Scholasticism, which was the questioning of
scholarly Christians trying to solve new philosophical questions2.

The Enlightenment was indeed and Age though as it s ideologies for the masses were swayed back
into those based upon religion. Idealism took over from Materialism, as religion became the
champion of humanitarian reform instead of reason.
The Age of Enlightenment was set to make a major impact in the scientific community. A new trend
had spread across Europe. This was a trend of questioning what the natural world was truly an
inquisitive movement seeking evidence and proof. Though there were many whom focused on
asking of the hypothetical while answering with philosophical ideology, there were also profound
scientist that would only except undeniable truths of the universe. These profound scientists which
either emerged or made their great discoveries during the Enlightenment did so because of the

  • 2. The Ones Who Walked Away From Omelas Essay Ursula Le Guin s short story, The Ones Who Walked away from Omelas, is Guin s depiction of the relationship between societies and the maintenance of animalistic instinct in man. Omelas is described as a luxurious sophisticated Utopia, that is completely self efficient, however it participates in ritualistic public neglect of some children. They, the society of Omelas, cage certain children and put their suffering on display for the whole City, and World to see. As the reader we must ask ourselves what do societies need to be societies? It is clear when looking at historical context, and the fictional city of Omelas, that societies need an outlet for aggression. The reason human work cohesively together in society is because of law and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story says, but they all understand that their happiness... depend wholly on this child s abominable misery (Guin 5). Why would this be? Look at the negative aspect of successful societies. Germany right before WW2. Germany was a broke country, with no infrastructure. The Nazi party gained public traction by assigning hate to the Jewish community. The Nazi party used Jews as their outlet for public angry. The jews have money when we are poor, the jews are the reason for Germany s downfall. Germany s infrastructure and economy started to rebuild at rates never seen before in World economics, simply because the public was connected, although by hate, such connection made them organized and unified. Germany was prosperous and advanced for its time much like Omelas. Omelas could be doing a similar thing. This child is on display, people choose to visit the attraction to relive their built up frustrations or angers. This child is continuously in agony. This could be, for Omelas, as well as be therapy for the common man. This might not make sense to sane individuals, but, from a community that has seen this torture since an early age, it is going to be normalized. If this child fills the gap for society s worst desires and needs, it would make sense the way Omelas uses it as a tool for unity and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Community College Is A Little Out Of Place One question that I am often asked after introducing myself is but why are you here though? For many people that I ve talked to, the thought of a Wisconsinite moving to Michigan for community college seems a little out of place. For most people, community college is something that is done before moving to another state for college, not after. However, this was not the route I was destined to take, and it payed of to be one of the best ones of my academic career, even if it does come of as a little strange. If there were one thing that shapes my identity the most, it would be my home. For most of my twenty year existence, I lived a fairly comfortable life in the sleepy town of West Salem, Wisconsin. It was the type of town where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One possible beginning stems from my time spend at our said family cabin in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Where I could be found spending time reading an atlas for fun as the calming sounds of crickets, and loons echoed in the distance. Besides my academic interests, many of my hobbies also came into being there. Whether that be in the form of ukulele playing, reading, photography, or one of my personal favorites trying new foods (especially of the ethnic variety), they all exist thanks in part to America s dairyland. My passion for photography, for example, all began one summer day three years ago when I picked up my Dad s Nikon camera, and began taking pictures as I hiked through our forty acre property. This is a passion that continues to this day, and one that I am excited to pursue more while I am here in Michigan. Which brings me to another part of my story, the move here itself. My Dad was originally from the Jackson area, and for the longest time I had absolutely no idea where that even was (well besides a rough geographical area from a finger pointing on to a spot on his palm.) While I lived in Wisconsin, we barely had time to visit Michigan. Often times only visiting once every few years, usually around easter. Before the move I barely even knew my relatives in Jackson, besides the correspondence of a birthday letter, or the occasional phone call. This all changed, however, one summer day when my Dad sat my sister ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Business is one of the most impacted fields of globalization. For the best development and other reasons, more and more businesses have enhanced their businesses from local market or their own countries to global width by mergers and acquisitions. Meanwhile, the conflicts of the mergers and acquisitions occurred as their predictable and unavoidable consequences, leaders and managers should be able to understand conflicts, indentify and classify them, and also solve conflicts and dilemmas. • 5. Foreaskin Research Paper Foreskin Hygiene, Pediatric The foreskin is the loose skin that covers the head of the penis (glans). Keeping the foreskin area clean can help prevent infection and other conditions. If this area is not cleaned, a creamy substance called smegma can collect under the foreskin and cause odor and irritation. The foreskin of an infant or toddler does not need unique hygiene care. You should wash the penis the same way as any other part of your child s body, making sure you rinse off any soap. Cleaning inside the foreskin is not necessary for children that young. RETRACTING THE FORESKIN Usually, the foreskin will fully separate from the glans by age 5 years, but it may separate as early as age 2 years or as late as puberty. When the foreskin has separated from the glans, it can be pulled back (retracted) so that the glans can be cleaned. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Forcing the foreskin to retract can injure it and cause problems. Children should be allowed to retract the foreskin on their own when they are ready. KEEPING THE FORESKIN AREA CLEAN Before puberty, the foreskin area should be cleaned from time to time or as needed. After puberty, it should be cleaned every day. Until the foreskin can be easily retracted, wash over the foreskin with soap and water. When the foreskin can be easily retracted, wash the area under the foreskin in the shower or bathtub: 1 Gently retract the foreskin to uncover the glans. Do not retract the foreskin farther back than is comfortable. During urination, a bit of foreskin should always be retracted to keep the glans ... • 7. The Egyptian Process Of Mummification The Egyptian Process of Mummification In ancient Egyptian society, preserving a body after death was an important process necessary for entrance into an immortal existence. According to Egyptian belief the soul did not die. The soul would take the form of a bird usually a falcon and fly around in the world of the living returning later its dead body. The importance of preserving the body revolved around the idea that the roaming soul would be able to recognize the right body and return to it. As a result of this theology, Egyptiansdeveloped an effective system of embalming. The Egyptian embalming process was a significant and complicated process performed by priests. The body of Tutankhamun is the most renowned fully intact mummy. Several other royal mummies have survived the centuries but they have been re wrapped and stripped of their jewels. Re wrapped mummies were not properly completed and were always hurried(for fear of divine retribution). The Egyptians worshipped several animals. Divine animals such as cats, jackals, hawks, and bulls were allowed the same mummification privilege as humans. Entire cemeteries were reserved for animals. The cat cemeteries were situated around Bubastis the center of worship of the cat goddess Bastet. Underground catacombs house hundreds of thousands of mummified hawks. It was common practice for visitors to the catacombs to purchase an animal mummy and dedicate it to a specific animal god in return for a favour. Nevertheless, most of these animal mummies when unwrapped contained no sacred animal, but twigs and sawdust. The manufacture of phoney mummies would hundreds of years later in the eighteen century again generate big business. The process of mummification was so esteemed that major criminals would not be executed but denied being mummified. In another case, a prince who attempted to assassinate Ramesses II was mummified alive. The wretched pose of this prince would suggest he was asphyxiated. Aneuploidy is a genetic condition where an organism acquires fewer or more chromosomes than the normal diploid number. A monosomic organism has one less than the diploid number of chromosomes meaning the human zygote will have 45 chromosomes. A trisomic organism has one more than the diploid number of number of chromosomes i.e. the organism will now have 47 set of chromosomemeaning there are three homologous copies of one chromosome. Gene alterations on an organism have profound effects on both cellular and physiological levels. Aneuploidy can be present in two ways if its present in only certain cells its known as somatic aneuploidy but its its found in all of the cells then its called constitutional aneuploidy. The effects of constitutional aneuploidy can be lethal. In humans, a condition known as down syndrome is caused is due to third copy of chromosome 21 and a third copy in any autosome will always result in childhood problems. (Hassold TJ, 1984). They can survive but will have significant health problems and will be mentally affected. Also, the absence of any autosomal chromosomes can lead to embryonic death. One of the basic consequences of aneuploidy is the genomic instability. Genomic instability refers to the change initiated during the life cycle of a cell. Genetic instability is hallmark of aneuploidy that leads to wide range of changes in the genome of the organisms. These changes can cause serious effects to the organism these include the chromosome alterations, chromosomal mutations. The Structural rearrangements of chromosomes are thought to develop from the repair of double strand DNA breaks (DSB) by non homologous end joining (NHEJ) pathway and its variant, alternative NHEJ (also known as backup NHEJ) (Quinlan and Hall, 2012). During a cell division, it is believed that genomic instability is minimized by four major mechanisms, which include chromosome segregation in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My partner for this lab was Caitlin Ledbetter, as she has also been my partner for the whole year. Once walking into the classroom, the smell of formaldehyde filled my senses, making me want to gag. The rat was laid face down on the tray and immediately we were able to distinguish whether it was male or female. We could tell our rat was male because of the inflamed or overly sized testes. After Mr.Cantrell gave us advice on how to successfully skin the rat, we began our dissection. Before we began to cut down the rat, we had to break both of the rats arms and legs in order to pin it down onto the tray. After doing this and pinning the rat down, we were able to begin. Caitlin picked up the scalpel and began to cut vertically down the rats stomach. We had to do this operation very slowly and delicately, otherwise we would cut through the muscle. After finishing cutting it vertically, we cut across both arms and legs. By then, we were able to peel the skin back and pin it onto the tray. We weren t able to see the organsyet, therefore we had to cut through the muscle. By cutting through the muscle, a lot of formaldehyde and bodily liquid began to pour out which was nauseating yet interesting. We decided to take both the rat and tray over to the trash can and dish out all of the formaldehyde that was filled inside of the rat s body. After doing this, we went back to ... The main reason was it had an open area to observe, and that it was not secluded and close quartered as some of the other areas I thought of. This area felt more accessible to particular subjects I could touch on, rather than having to feel limited. • 15. Coming Of Age By Margaret Mead Through Margaret Mead s ethnography, in the book Coming of Age in Samoa, we learn about the lives of women in Samoan culture. Young girls of Samoan culture have very little freedom in the beginning of their lives. Girls are expected to take care of the infants in their families until there is a younger and more capable girl that can provide care. Taking care of the babies in the familyis a Samoan girl s main responsibility as a child. The author further explains, She also develops a number of simple techniques. She learns to weave firm square balls from palm leaves, to make pin wheels of palm leaves or Frangipani blossoms...But in the case of the little girls all of these tasks are merely supplementary to the main business of baby tending (Mead 20). At a young age women are expected to attain skills in certain household tasks that help provide towards their Samoan families. Weaving is a household task that a Samoan girl is required to learn and become very skilled at. She learns different techniques and styles of weaving which help Samoan families throughout their everyday duties. Usually the older women of the household teach the younger girls how to weave. When a girl is 13 or 14 she is expected to weave a fine mat. The fine mat represents the high point of Samoan weaving virtuosity (Mead 24). This fine mat takes about 1 to 2 years to complete. • 17. Thesis On 12 Angry Men Twelve Angry Men In the 1957 MGM film, Twelve Angry Men, a young boy from the slum is on trial for allegedly stabbing his father to death. The jury from New York City is forced to have 12 men agree as to whether the boy is guilty or not guilty. If they decide not guilty, the boy is set free; if he is found guilty, the boy will receive the death sentence. In the beginning all but one agreed the boy was guilty; Juror 8, Mr. Davis, argues that the boy deserves some deliberation. Mr. Davis changed the other eleven jurors minds by using his core values such as keeping an open mind, staying humble, and believing every life is valuable. By keeping an open mind, Mr. Davis was able to look into the details of the facts presented and create an argument as to why the boy could perpetually be not guilty. Henri Bergson, a French philosopher, said The eye sees only what the mind is prepared to comprehend. Everyone but Mr. Davis came into the room closed minded and was unable to see a different perspective. They were unable to understand, sympathize and make sense of the argument Mr. Davis was making. Mr. Davis was able to persuade one man to have an open mind; juror number five. The two men then began to look further into the details of the evidence. Who doesn t fear death or sickness? Taking care of our bodies is extremely important, since we only have one. Our normal every day troubles can be easily manipulated by drug advertising companies, making people fear that they have a problem. The more prescriptions written, the more profit the company makes. There has been controversy with pharmaceutical companies because it is one of the most important and largest industries in the world. The pharmaceutical drug industry has to have the FDA approve a New Drug Application (NDA) before a product can be placed in the market. They have to regulate whether physicians should prescribe a drug or be over the counter. The FDA also controls the marketing for pharmaceutical products. The movie had audiences questioning the ideal American family. You see the usual midlife crisis that most people go through but watching further uncovers a deeper conflict of feeling oppressed with what society considers a normal life. The movie has many connecting themes through plot, characterization, and cinematography and these themes carry well throughout the movie. The main themes are listed accordingly, appearance versus reality, loneliness versus feeling connected, denialand repression, and beauty. A theme that is consistent throughout the movie is of empty promises of materialism. From afar the Burnhams seem to have the American Dream: a nice house in the suburbs, children, cars and good jobs. This kind of surveys help to know whether such a product will really work, long before you ve invested in a product launch. The survey is usually divided into two parts : Survey introduction: Creating the correct introduction is the most important part of developing a survey. Majority of potential respondents will decide whether or not to drop out of the survey based solely on the introduction. The introduction will set the tone for the rest of the survey. Without providing the correct information your respondents may feel uncomfortable or suspicious of the research study. So when you create your introduction, look at your survey from the perspective of the respondent. Remember, each respondent has to decide whether they are going to provide you with their personal information. The best advice is to try to predict if there are any concerns a respondent may have, and address them immediately in the survey. Always add the topic and purpose of the survey, expected time to complete it, a confidentiality statement, reward information if there is any and finally a thank you note. The first is the individual level, because every individual has its own unique perception of the world and what surrounds him. Individuals behave following how they interpret this and their environment. Each individual is different from the next one, because of its personality and characteristics. However, it s possible to organize them by categorizing their perceptions. Categories such as Appearance, Social behavior and Status are often considered. Individual s motivations must be analyzed to understand the next level : the Group. A Group is composed by 2 or more individuals, who come together to accomplish a particular task or... If the group is smaller, there s a chance it can highlight the individual differences and harm the group cohesiveness. If group are too large, people tend to work more by themselves ( Free riding ) rather than with the whole group, or create smaller teams within the group. c)Group norms. Norms are acceptable standards of behavior within a group that are shared by the members of the group. Norms define the limits of what is acceptable and what is not in terms of behavior. They are typically imagined in order to facilitate group survival, make behavior more predictable, avoid embarrassing situations, and express the values of the group. This is probably one of the greatest changes in child care norms that this country has seen in the past 30 years. Once upon a time, when a woman had a baby she almost always quit her job to raise her child, depending on her husband to support her and her child. Then along came the idea of maternity leave. This is when a woman takes a certain amount of time off to be with newborn. Once this time period was up, the woman still had a job to go back to. The change in policy that allows women and men to bring their newborn children to work with them is, in a sense, just one more change in our country norms and values. At one point leaving your child with a baby sitter or at a daycare center all day was considered being a bad parent, meaning it was the norm to stay home and take care of your child yourself. Then, as divorce rates went up and more women were forced to raise their children on their own, that changed and it became the norm for women to go back to work after a set time for maternity leave. This also made sending you child to a daycare center or leaving them with a babysitter the norm since you couldn t be there to take care of your child. With women being allowed to bring their babies into work with them, that is again changing the norms of society, specifically those having to do with the care of children. Women used to be given a hard time when they brought their children into work with them, even if it was only for a matter of minutes. Now many of them are allowed to bring their children in for a whole day, every day. This is enabling women to care for their own children and raise them in their own way with their own values, instead of entrusting those important responsibilities to someone else. Mothers are also forming a closer bond with their children in an important time in a child s development. This will lead to a stronger bond later ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1970, Sister Callista Roy identified the need for conceptual frameworks to be developed in order to have a foundation from which to build nursing knowledge. She developed the Model of Adaptation based on her theory that all patients must adapt to his/her given situations; we as nurses must guide and encourage positive adaptation for our patients (Roy, 1970). Roy s grand theory addressed all four of Fawcett s concepts identified in her meta paradigm of nursing, adding an additional concept, adaptation. Roy referred to the concept of person as man, identifying man as a biopsychosocial being who received a nurse s services. Roy identified the environment as any and all focal, contextual, and residual stimuli (1970). She addressed the concept of health as an aspect of a man s life, lying somewhere along the health sickness continuum (Roy, 1971). In regards to the concept of nursing, Roy identified nursing as a duty that helps and encourages man s response to environmental stimuli (1970). The additional concept, adaptation, was identified by Roy as man s encounter and reply to any given stimuli. This reply can be positive or negative (Roy, 1970). In addressing all the concepts identified by Fawcett as nursing s meta paradigm, Roy strengthened her grand theory s foundation thus adding strength to the foundation of nursing. • 33. The Myth Of Endometriosis In The Human Body If one breaks down endometriosis, one will find that it means an abnormal condition of the lining inside a uterus. Specifically, the tissue that is inside the uterus will form on an external structure. This has unpleasant consequences when a tissue made for a certain region of the body is acting elsewhere. This condition will mainly affect women and young ladies during their most reproductive years and can affect them both physically and mentally (Reich et al., 2016). Even though most cases are, it is a myth that endometriosisoccurs exclusively in women over twenty years of age. This disease can begin in a body as soon as the female obtains her first menstrual cycle and will unfortunately persist over a lifetime in the body unless an act of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The basal layer of the endometrium produces the external functional layer, and if the basal layer is not removed, then the disease will continue to grow back. This is why laparoscopic excision surgery is the optimal treatment for endometriosis. This procedure will act to remove the deepest layer of the endometrium like tissue. Reich et al. (2016) mentions that receiving a hysterectomy is not the best way to get rid of this condition, even though a large majority of people have come to believe this is true. As previously discussed, endometriosis can spread to areas other than reproductive organs, so pain will persist even after removal of the entire uterus. Pain killers, oral contraceptives and IUDs are common methods for pain treatment and slowing the disease. However, as soon as one is eligible for the diagnosis of endometriosis, laparoscopic surgery to remove all layers of disease should be amongst the top considerations to rid the body of this abnormality, for it has proven to be the most ... • 34. Equality 7-2521 Research Paper Equality 7 2521: A Lone Scholar Living in a Society of Street Sweepers Robert Green Ingersoll, a lawyer, Civil War veteran, and political leader, once said that It is a blessed thing that in every age some one had had the individuality enough and courage enough to stand by his own convictions. In Ayn Rands novel Anthem, Equality 7 2521 represents this salient being. Equality has never been destined to be a street sweeper, instead, it is a sinister motive of the Council that determines his position. This is proven by several aspects throughout the book, encompassing the idea that Equality has been set aside from society from a young age, Equality is an individual in a communistic society, and that the Council has had unjust determinations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Equality is often locked in the cellar as a child, more so than the other children, for being taller and more intelligent than his teachers. In Anthem s society, It is not good to be different from [your] brothers, but it is evil to be superior to them (Rand 21). This saying, told to Equality multiple times by his teachers for excelling in his lessons, indicates that Equality is evil, for being intelligent. He often understands the subject matter of his lectures before the teachers have even completed the curriculum. Equality himself states that No single one can possess greater wisdom than the many Scholars who are elected by all men for their wisdom. Yet [I] can. [I] do (54). Equality is one of the smartest mortals in his society, and he even goes so far as to say that he is more intellectual than members of the Home of the Scholars. Equality s treatment by his teachers justifies that his occupation as a street sweeper was a sinister motive because his intelligence could lead to him surpassing the influence of the Council, if citizens decide to depend upon the man bringing them new innovations in science and ... Both composers incorporate the vital idea that characters confrontation with morality induces developments of change and subsequently reflect integral actions of compassion. Takita emphasises the flaws of the human condition through Daigo as he starts his first day working with a rotting corpse. Medium shots are employed to highlight Daigo s body language where he forces himself to close his eyes and tries to stray away from the body. Such techniques strongly suggest distaste and disturbance as systematic responses whilst illustrating the extent of which the impacts of discovery can be provocative in confronting world values. Takita s manipulations with camera work effectively triggers automatic disfigured expressions in the audience, reminding them of their weaknesses whilst encouraging consideration for actions in response. This perspective of weakness and violation is further emphasised with the utilising of close shots where it captures Daigo washing himself like someone who has a cleaning disorder. • 36. Plato s Theory Of Forms In Platonism, few philosophical theories are as essential as the theory of Forms. This is besides the fact that it is generally overlooked in many of Plato s writings even though it lays the foundations to many other theories of his. The Republic is where the theory is first mentioned, followed by discussion in Phaedo and criticized in Parmenides and Timaeus thereafter. (These works will be further discussed later throughout the essay.) Platos theory of Forms, (sometimes referred to as the theory of Ideas) states basically: that which is made of matter and can be physically perceived by a human through one of his five senses does not represent true reality. The realm of ideas and abstract thought is in fact the ideal representation of reality. (When used in this manner, the first letter of form is usually capitalized). The aim of this essay is to identify What is a Form? and What are the critiques of Plato s theory of Forms? According to the theory, a Form is technically bound to nor space or time. A Form does not exist as a material object and therefore cannot exist in three dimensional space. Because this is true of a Form, it consequently can neither exist at any particular given point in time. In truth, Forms can only be sensed by the intellect, but they are not bound to the confines of one s mind. Forms exist outside of the mind itself. Occasionally referred to as Ideas , Plato s original term in Greek for Form was eidos . As stated earlier, Forms do not depend ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Issue Of Paid Parental Leave INTRODUCTION Is America falling behind the rest of the world in terms of the services it provides? As a proud citizen of this great nation I, unfortunately, have to say yes. Our once outstanding country has been falling behind in a number of areas including technology, education, economics, and yes, even in family care! America is now one of only three industrialized countries that hasn t set up a nationwide policy for paid parental leave. With this knowledge I desired to know more, particularly if we as a nation are not doing much to rectify the situation. Then, to learn if any states were doing something about this issue which effects so many people in the workforce. I wanted to see exactly how far behind, compared to the rest world, we are in the issue of paid parental leave. The Pew Research Center conducted a study of government supported leave in 38 OECD countries, and found that the US had the lowest figures with zero weeks of paid leave. Though we did fare better when it came to the number of weeks provided for protected leave with 12 weeks. We were still far worse than most other OECD countries (see Figure 1 at right). Knowing that we were rated worse I wanted to know what people are saying that we can and should be doing to change this situation? BACKGROUND The first recorded policy involving working pregnant women was in 1877 in Switzerland. It stated that a women could not work for at least six weeks after giving birth. Then in 1878 Germany issued a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In a more direct or indirect manner, the various building activities including designs, construction, use, refurbishments, as well as demolition of the buildings affects the environmental performance differently. In bringing environmental issue into the context, it is true that a feature of environmentally sustainable is not only comfortable to occupy, but also consume small amount of energy. Studies argue that the major goal of sustainable design involves reducing or ultimately eliminating depletion of natural resources and degradation of environment due to the infrastructures and facilities made by man. Although various factors are barriers, this situation calls for a better ways of approaching the building activities that are environmentally sustainable. Building policies plays critical role in reducing environmental impacts although little research has been done as far as this sector is concerned. These policies should focus on codes for environmental sustainability of building designs that establishes better planning practices, designing as well as constructing buildings with environmental concerns of the impacts of the build structures (Davies, 2004). Within each category, several subsections are provided to further categorize each technology by the physical principles governing the sorting process. We emphasize more recent technologies, especially those that integrate multiple functions on the same device toward a fully integrated point of use device. II. In traditional FACS, fluorescently labeled cells organized in a laminar flow stream encounter a focused laser beam that scatters into a detector. The watchtowers were used as communication devices for castles that were great distances apart. The watchtowers would signal the castle in case of an enemy attack by using smoke and mirrors. They built rock castles, or small defense castles high on rocks, using the natural terrain to the maximum effect. Since the rock castles were small they did not house many soldiers. Since the 70 s a lot has changed, we have changed in some ways and are similar in more ways than one. Here are the differences and similarities between the 70 s and today, 2017. In the 70 s the first president of the decade was Richard Nixon, he was the 37th president and was in office 1969 1974. Eventually Gerald Fordheld office after Nixon resigned to avoid the eventual outcome of Watergate, which would have led to impeachment. Today in 2017 we have Donald Trump and Mike Pence, and people are begging for Trump to be impeached, similar to Nixon. Though people do see impeachment in Trump s future, but some do not. Another difference since the 70 s is the inflation of the dollar. A dollar in 1970 is worth $6.30 today, which is a 530.0% increase. A dollar in 1979 is worth $3.37, which is a 237% increase. It left a significant impact on the world we know today and gave us great men to remember. The Enlightenment was a intellectual movement that brought change to the views of Christianity, the importance of reason, the understanding of nature and humanity, and the equality of man. Those of the later will be the focus of this paper. Curiosity for understanding the natural world led to new scientific exploration as well as new discoveries. The philosophical aspects of the period made their way into effecting politics from its time and on. The Age of Enlightenmentbegan in the early 17th century and officially continued into the 18th century. The movement at the time held high praise for intellectual developments made with its roots in reason. This was so much so that the movement was also known as the Age of Reason. This basis that the world and humanity could be bettered through the application of reason spread from the influence of Greek philosophy1.
