Impact Of Globalization On Non Institutional Investors
Impact on Non HFT institutional investors There is a severe variation of capital at risk of high
frequency trading when compared to capita at risk for institutional investors as noted by KF Y.
Capital at risk is the total amount of capital that an organization deploys in all of its market
positions at any specific point of time, as defined by IRRC institute. A high frequency trader
generally keeps its capital at risk negligible. Although, HFT companies contributes for nearly 65%
by volume in equities, their capital risk is small. On the other hand, the institutional investors or
non high frequency traders amount to a larger market ownership, more than 64% at the end of
2009. The hypothesis is that a small percentage of minority ownership... Show more content on

There is no definite scientific proof for the same but there are some anecdotal evidences. It is
evident that the Flash Crash of May 6, 2010 was provoked by HFT resulting in the decline in
markets in a very short amount of time. However, it was a singular event, and thus, the
assessment cannot be verified that HFT caused a systemic disruption. Different HFT Strategies
There are primarily 3 high frequency trading strategies: Liquidity providing, trading the tape and
Statistical Trading. And each of these three strategies are classified further into two sub
categories. 1.LIQUIDITY PROVIDING Rebate Trading: This type of trading provides liquidity
in stocks by posting bids and offers in order to collect ECN rebates without requiring capital
gains. It is most prevalent in higher volume, lower volatility stocks and is capable of tolerating
small trading losses (Borchgrevink, 2015). Example: Post bid to buy shares, upon execution
immediately post offer on the inside market to sell position thus capturing rebate from ECN with
or without capital gain (Borchgrevink, 2015). Market Making: It attempts to reduce spreads by
creating a more liquid market and earns profit from the spread as well as ECN rebates for providing
liquidity (Borchgrevink, 2015). Examples:

The Human Condition By Hannah Arendt
Hannah Arendt s most influential work The Human Condition was published in 1958. It makes
distinctions between labor, work and action, between power, violence and strength and between
property and wealth. It is surprising that more than 55 years later the originality and novelty of this
book is still present. Arendt compels the reader to open their eyes and to look at the world and
human affairs in new ways and with a completely different perspective. In her prologue she
professes that she wants us to do nothing more than to think what we are doing. The Human
Condition is associated with Arendt s work on totalitarianism. The Human Condition and her work
on totalitarianism work together to highlight the contemporary human predicament. Arendt s
interest in human affairs was due to her encounter with Nazis which led to her interest and
participation in political activities. Hannah Arendt developed her philosophy of education during
her time in the United States. Her philosophy is shaped by the political turmoil that played out in
public schools at that time. Arendt was influenced by many philosophers. One sees Jasper s
influence in The Human Condition in which Arendt developed this idea of action: public, political
behavior based on communication (Snelgrove, 4). Hannah Arendt was struck by Cal Marx s picture
of individuality which was devoted to production and consumption. For Arendt this is a revealing
representation of modern society in which economic concerns have come

The Grapes Of Wrath By Ma Joad
Ma Joad: Keeping her family in line since 1939
In a time where women were considered inferior, The Grapes of Wrath uses secondary characters,
specifically Ma Joad, to demonstrate a woman taking charge in a family setting, and the
relationships of such a woman with others. Ma helps amplify the theme of feminism and women s
rights in different scenarios. Her relationships with Pa, her daughter Rose of Sharon, and even
herself all convey different elements of an extraordinary leader and an amazing mother.
Ma and Pa s relationship throughout The Grapes of Wrath defies the idea of a normal couple in the
era of the Dust Bowl. They are represented very much as equals through the conflicts their family
has to face, contrary to other couples, where the husband is in charge. Ma takes the lead in
many situations and Pa respects, and maybe even fears her opinions. Ma commandeers decision
making and often causes conflicts with her strong beliefs. This passage conveys the dynamic of
their relationship very early on in the book: Pa broke in, But s pose there just ain t room? He
had twisted his neck to look up at her, and he was ashamed. Her tone had made him ashamed.
[...] She stopped, and Pa turned back, and his spirit was raw from the whipping. (Steinbeck 132)
Not only does Pa look to Ma for advice, but he also notices that she has a higher authority over the
family than he does. It becomes obvious as the book goes on that he is not well equipped to deal
with the situations that

High School Musical Analysis
When watching a movie about high schoolers, there are usually many different groups of
students who all conform to one social group only. Take the movie High School Musical for
example. There is specifically one scene devoted to a song about fitting in with the status quo .
There are stereotypical groups such as jocks, nerds, theater geeks, skater kids, and the popular
kids in this movie and in other movies like it. Each of these groups can be broken down and
explained more in depth. When thinking of a jock, people would most likely picture a muscular,
sweaty guy wearing some sort of jersey. A stereotypical jock is usually also fairly popular, so
there is some overlap between the groups in some cases. Everybody knows their name and
whenever people talk to them, the subject of sports usually comes up. People ask questions like,
How s the team looking this year? or When do you have practice? Being a jock doesn t
necessarily mean that your grades are bad, but with practices every evening or two to three hours,
finding time to study and work can be difficult for jocks. Teachers usually like jocks and they
might ask them questions about the game from the week before. This bond between jocks and
teachers can give the jocks an advantage. The teachers might be more lenient when it comes to
assignments if they know that the jock has a big game coming up or had a tournament the weekend
before. Nerds are on the opposite end of the spectrum. They tend to spend their free time

Body Care Products and their Impacts Essay
Body care products. We use them every day. On our hair, on our body, on our face. And,
sometimes but not often, we think about the environmental, ethical and social impacts it has.
Nowadays, it s a standardised idea that it is extremely important to take in these factors when
choosing and purchasing products; however, is it really as important as it is portrayed to be? To
come to a conclusion as to whether or not it is important to think about the environmental, social
and ethical impacts when buying a product, both sides shall be discussed.
The environment is probably one of the most debatable subjects around right now. And yet another
debatable aspect about the impact on the environment is related to the body products. One must be
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chemicals used and the consequences related to them are similar to those stated above.
Another factor where body products endanger the environment is when it comes to packaging.
Statistics show that in fact body products make up a third of all landfill waste. The packaging
being non bio degradable is left lying in landfills, waiting for hundreds of years to break down.
With enough threats to the environment, is there really need to worsen its condition even more? As
can be seen above, the environmental impact of body products is quite profound. Body products
that go into the ocean can also cause dangerous consequences to the eco system, especially to the
organism living there. Even the packaging of body products affects the environment. Therefore, the
environmental impacts should be taken seriously when choosing a body care product.
Yet, some are still doubtful. They think that perhaps they are part of a scheme to scare people
with over exaggerated statistics and dangers. Some believe we are being too paranoid and easily
swayed by what we hear. So are we creating needles worries and stirring a storm out of nothing?
Before, we jump to conclusions too quickly by drawing conclusions from things we hear; we
should see the concrete evidence first. Although there has been lots of research, nothing has been
100% confirmed nor are they extremely certain the effects are caused by the body care

The Mandatory Voting Age
The Proper Voting Age Recently, there has been some debate whether the voting age should be
lowered from 18 to 16, in an attempt to increase voter turnout. Yes, it may succeed in that but I
believe the most important thing beyond voter turnout is educated voting. How much of the age
group of 16 and 17 year olds follow politics closely enough to make an educated decision? Many
younger voters are influenced by their parents; it would just encourage people to have more
children to give them more votes in a particular election. That may sound ridiculous to some but
for something such as the Presidential election it is a possibility. However, for the sake of
argument let s assume giving the power to vote to people at

Dilemmas Facing the People of Norway Today Essay examples
Norway is a country with a long and interesting history. They are the descendants of Vikings. They
managed to survive being occupied by Germans in World War II, even fighting back as well as they
could. Now they are dealing with the same issues that many countries are dealing with, how to
interact with the rest of the world in this new age of global connectivity. They are trying to find the
balance between progress and trying to maintain their cultural uniqueness. In this increasingly
technologically fueled society, how can they manage to maintain interpersonal relationships? Where
should the line be drawn between technology and nature? Which one should be given the
preference? These are all dilemmas facing the people of Norwaytoday.... Show more content on

Together, the countries of the EFTA and the EU make up the European Economic Area (EEA). This
group allows for the following four freedoms, the movement of goods, services, persons and capital
through the 30 member states. As well as allowing for the aforementioned freedoms, the EEA has
agreed to cooperate with each other with ...research and development, education, social policy, the
environment, consumer protection, tourism and culture, collectively known as flanking and
horizontal policies (Baur). While they do have many benefits, the EEA does not share common
fishing and agricultural policies, customs union, common trade policy, common foreign and
security policy, justice and home affairs, or monetary union (Baur). This makes it so there are
many benefits to both the EU and the EFTA, but the benefits are not as good as the ones they enjoy

The culture of Norway is an amazing thing to study. The country has managed to retain some of
their most important traditions, while moving into a modern world. Along with traditional dress
and customs, there are also many prominent pieces of art, music and architecture that are well
known and loved. The Norwegian people consider themselves to very honest and feel that humility
is an important character trait. They have carried their traditional attitudes over into their business
dealings. Norwegian business people respect confident people who do not waste time. There is

The Political Disaster of Watergate Essay
The political disaster of Watergate in the early 1970s marked the first time a president resigned.
Essentially, it began when a former Marine, Daniel Ellsberg, who no longer supported war in
Vietnam, leaked an analysis of American involvement there to The New York Times, starting in
1971. President Richard Nixon, a very private man, demanded that these Pentagon Papers be kept
secret in order to prevent the public from finding out exactly what was going on. The scandal that
followed ruined Nixon and led Americans to be more critical of the politicians they put in power
and to question their leadership. Nixon wanted to prevent news articles from being published about
the papers and their conclusions for reasons of national security . He is... Show more content on

His identity was not revealed until 2005 , although there had been many suspicions. He told the
reporters about the federal government s role in the cover up of the scandal. Woodward was
able to discover, through conversations with CREEP employees, that $70,000 of funds had
been used as payoffs to the burglars. In March 1973, one of the burglars and a former CIA agent
James McCord, reported a list of those in the government who were involved with the break in
and cover up. Two of them were John Dean, who had been previously mentioned by FBI Director
L. Patrick Gray, and Jeb Magruder, who had been involved with Nixon s campaign. The Los
Angeles Times and The Washington Post both ran the story, facing lawsuits from Dean s lawyer.
Dean testified that Nixon knew about the cover up, and then Nixon refused to appear before the
Senate Judicial Committee based on executive privilege, which allows officials to keep information
private if releasing it would disrupt the function of the government. He had previously said that he
would not invoke executive privilege.
In the court case, one of Nixon s aides testified that there was a taping system in the Oval Office
that the president used to record all his conversations. Immediately afterwards, Nixon had the
recorder removed, and refused to submit the existing tapes as evidence. On August 15,

This is incorrect because although there are some positive outcomes because of magazine
advertisements, there are far more negative ones. Wanting to be healthy and having a source of
entertainment isn t nearly as serious as eating disorders and depression which are just some of the
negative effects caused by magazine ads. In The Best Women s Health and Fitness Magazines it
explains, The report, which says young women look at thin models and see themselves as fat in
comparison, calls on broadcasters and magazine publishers to use a more realistic range of body
images. It also suggests society should put more emphasis on better eating and health to increase
awareness about the impact of poor nutrition and dieting on young women. The evidence states that
since women are getting heavier, we should use more models with a realistic body shape. Most
women do not look like the photoshopped models in the magazine advertisements, so seeing them

lead to eating disorders. Since magazine advertisements exist, they send unhealthy signals to young

Technological Upbringing Essay
A Technological Upbringing I stand on my feet with the intent to walk for the first time.
Thankfully, my parents are there to help me stand... I looked as happy as any attention showered
newborn could be, through a camera s point of view at least. This month in Bloomfield, New
Mexico, had been as eventful and exciting as ever. However, today there was yet another
discharge of pride for my parents, but I did not know I was doing something so incredible.
Suddenly I could speak; with the help of an unexpected aid, sending a sense of shock across my
whole family tree. He s talking and walking now? He s growing up so fast. We are all so proud,
my grandparents told my parents in a tone that seemed a slightly worried. My grandma had
always worried about employing technology on children. There had been no evidence to show
any repercussions of using online teaching websites, but she still could not trust it. I continued to
learn more from the useful asset. My parents had never had much to boast about, and this month
had just brought two huge conversation pieces. How on earth could I go from not mumbling a
single word to asserting two in such a short period of time? Everyone wanted to see me before I
augmented more, but it could never be arranged, and time was flying. Sitting on a clock s hour

Throughout the 20th century the nation of German went through a number of cataclysmic, and
paradigm shifting changes. One of the longest lasting changes to Germany was the division of
Germany into two separate nations, the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany), and the
German Democratic Republic (East Germany). These two nations were the results of a fundamental
difference in political ideals of two of the great nation at the time, the United States of American,
and the Soviet Union. Throughout the life spans of these two nations one of the largest concern

The principles are afraid of the superintendents. The superintendents are afraid of the Board [of

This goes to show how the system of rule that the western countries were using was only going to
lead to further degeneration of the youth, to the point where they had the entire teaching system
afraid of them. And a good number of these youth related cases could be attributed, by the word of
the very culprits themselves, to the consumption of Western media. Turning to the East, GDR
officials had a fundamental problem with western culture simply by it being just that, western. In
many cases the GDR actively tried to halt the access to western media, and tried to get other

Optimism And Relationships
Optimism s relationship with well being and satisfaction with life has been well studied, even
before positive psychology was seen as a major topic in psychology. Optimism is positively
correlated with life satisfaction (Szczesniak Soares, 2011). A students degree of optimism is a
predictor of satisfaction with life and distress in college (Brissette, Scheier, Carver, 2002; Yalcin,
2011). Newlyweds who were higher in optimismsolved problems more constructively, had lower
decline in marital well being in the first year of marriage, and were better able to handle
relationship trouble (Andersson, 2012a; Neff Geers, 2013). A husbands optimism is associated

There are differences and problems that still need to be clarified. For the sake of this article,
optimism and pessimism are shown as one dimension, with someone low in optimism being high in
pessimism. However, there are contradictory ideas about whether optimism and pessimism are
unidimensional or two dimensions. There is evidence to support the theory that they are
unidimensional with low optimism being the same as high pessimism and vise versa (Rauch,
Schweizer, Moosebougger, 2007). However, there is evidence to support the theory that they are
two separate dimensions and people can be high or low in both optimism and pessimism (Herzberg,
Glaesmer, Hoyer, 2006). Additionally, optimism studies are largely done on European Americans
so there is no clarification on the universality of the results. People from eastern cultures experience
more positive emotions when they are experiencing negative emotions so they might be more
optimistic than western

The Crucible Reverend Hale Essay
In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, witchcraft is arising in Salem, Massachusetts and Reverend John
Hale is the one at fault. Reverend Hale is a spiritual doctor who was chosen to come to salem to
investigate what was going on. Numerous people were being accused of their involvement in
witchcraft and were put to trial. Some town people confessed but some had nothing to confess,
leading them to be hung or stoned to death. There are many justifications why the events in Salem
occurred and the author brings them to the reader s attention, more than once. He shows them
through many flaws. Reverend Hale is foolish, headstrong, and his self righteousness make him the
one at blame for the Salem witch trials.
Reverend hale s strong willed personality suddenly backfired, making him not trustworthy to the
the court members and people of Salem. Hale contemplated a lot and spent more time on his
studies. He stated that, the people he had named as witches, were not witches. Because he
changed his mind so often, and went back on his word, the jury cannot trust him which made
anything he said pointless. He quits the court when he says I denounce these proceedings I quit
this court. (Miller). Since Hale was so hard headed, it took him awhile to realize the extent of the
witch trials was extreme and that it was not active in the town of salem. It was a mixture of
extreme ignorance, pure cruelty to banish the unwanted people of the town. As Elizabeth was
signing john s death warrant, Hale was watching. Excellency it is a natural lie to tell, I beg you,

Essay On Greg Pape s The River Comes Closer
Greg Pope s The River Comes Closer and Louise GlГјck s Threshing uses Imagine and Sound to

Poets usually begin with words or phrase which appeal more because of their sound than their
meaning, and the movement and phrasing of a poem. Every poem has a texture of sound, which is
at least as important as the meaning behind the poem. What often attracts us to poetry is its sound
and imagery. Poets use sound to express the themes of their poems and it allows them to find a
deeper meaning behind the poem. Greg Pape s The River Comes Closer and Louise GlГјck s

Both poets has an unique ways of controlling their poems by using imagery and sound to create
tension, which makes the reader have a visual and audio sense of the two poets. Therefore poet
like Pape and GlГјck mainly focus on imagery and sound by controlling how their own poem are
going to be, by showing the importance of how these two poems make imagery and sound their
main goal.
Pape s control his poem by emphasizing the imagery and sounds used. An owl calls across the

glitter which could mean brightness or radiance through branches of pines and on the back of the
river, which could represent light passing through and reflecting off objects. The opening lines make
it clear that the speaker, and therefore the reader, is alone with nothing but their connection to
nature in their consciousness. Louise GlГјck s

Essay about Charles Darwin s Life and Revolutionary Work
Charles Darwin by far, revolutionized biology as known to modern society. He is responsible
for the theory of evolution that people of today still go by. He was born on February 12, 1809 in
England as the fifth child into the family of Dr. Robert and Susannah Darwin. He had three older
sisters and one older brother. Because of his father s success as a physician, and his mother
coming from the Wedgewood family fortune, the Darwin family was considered well off. Robert
Darwin worked many great hours while Susannah stayed home to take care of the children.
Unfortunately, when Charles was eight years old his mother passed away from complications of an

After graduation, he received a letter from his friend Henslow informing him that he knew of a
sailor captain in search of a naturalist and thought Charles was best suited for the job. Though
Robert Darwin was hesitant about letting his son go, he eventually caved. The journey that Charles
Darwin went on became known as the Voyage of the Beagle. The ultimate goal of the journey was
to study and map the coast lines of South America. Charles Darwin had been given the chance to
explore a world unknown by Europeans. Not only that, but Charles would be able to do some
science as well.
From the adventure, Charles Darwin learned many new fascinating things. He saw animals on
land that resembled other animals but were adapted to different things. For example, he saw two
types of lizards one that was made to live in the water and one that was made to live on land. This
sparked his curiosity. According to the book of Genesis, nothing that God has created changes.
Everything remains the same, as God had intended. When he found fossils, the same was true. He
found things that had resembled animals of his time but were slightly bigger or different in some
way or another but they had been extinct. Charles began to believe that the animals were changing
despite the fact that his thoughts went against everything he was taught. He took lots of samples of
animals and findings back home to England. He was going to need evidence to support his new
theory yet it took him nearly twenty

Race in America 2014: The Washington Redskins
The Washington, D.C. football team, known as the Redskins, has generated controversy for years
because of its name and mascot. Some say that the name should be changed because the term
redskin is a racial slur that denigrates Native Americans. Others, including team owner Dan Snyder,
insist that the name denotes only the football team s proud history, and that changing the name is
unnecessary.
In September of 2014, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, a satirical comedy news program, aired

Csds s Structural And Organizational Dynamics
Over the past thirty years, the Cornell Speech and Debate Society ( CSDS ) has established itself as
a internationally recognized debate and speech organization. Like all organizations, however, the
CSDS and its members experience conflict that arises from various sources. In particular, many of
the CSDS s structural and organizational dynamics create and exacerbate conflict rather than
resolve it. The most common and recurring sources of CSDS conflict include status differences
among various stakeholders, competition for limited resources, and perceptual differences of the
CSDS s purpose. To mitigate conflict that arises from these sources and others, the CSDS should

A Reflection On My Philosophy Of Education
My philosophy of education is that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring,
and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically,
and socially. A safe environment is very beneficial to a child s learning. Providing a safe
environment will allow a child to expand his or her horizons and feel free to learn new tasks and
topics. A vision statement is a public declaration that schools use to describe their high level goals
for the future and for what they hope to achieve if they successfully fulfill their organizational
purpose. A vision statement may also describe a school s ideals, its organizational values, long
term objectives, or what it hopes its students will learn or be capable of doing after graduating.
We will have a peaceful, productive, caring, and orderly learningenvironment that meets the
academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of all students. Our goal is to prepare
students for a successful school experience without the need for remediation.
I incline to have an effective impact on the culture at Waynesboro Middle School. There will be a
reinforcement of trust, collaborative decision making, and a shared sense of purpose within the
school environment. Everyone will be a lifelong learner at the school including: students, teachers,
parents, and administrators. Professional development will be a key aspect in meeting the needs of
diverse learners and student achievement; in

Elton Mayo Human Relation Theory
When we think of manager everyone gets the same image in their head of such. Someone going
around giving orders and making sure employees do what they have been ordered to do. At one
point managers focused on the productivity and efficient division of labor and workers as an
extension of machinery also known as Scientific Management. But in the years after WW2, there
was an almost immediate change to this because of the introduction of The Human Relations
Theory, also known as the behavioral theory of management. This theory saw workers in a
different light; they were now seen as thinking beings with needs who liked to receive attention.
Companies eventually saw that attention motivated employees and even allowed them to get more
out of themselves for the benefit of the organization. The man known to have discovered the
behavioral theory of management was Elton Mayo. Elton Mayo (12/26/1880 09/07/1949) was a
psychologist, industrial researcher, and organizational theorist. He was educated at medical schools
in Edinburgh and London but lost interest in medicine at the University of Adelaide. In 1922 Mayo
left the United States of America. There he acquired a Rockefeller grant there enabling him to
investigate the high turnover at the textile mill. This work got the attention of the Harvard school
of administration where he became a professor of industrial research in 1929 this led to him
conducting research into personal and social factors determining work output at the

Racism And Its Effects On Young Black Males
Racism throughout time has had a powerful negative force in society. There have been many
efforts made to relieve racism. Racism is still present in America, although many people are doing
their best to put a stop to racism and its somewhat devastating effects on young black males in
society. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view...
Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it. (Lee) The negative stereotypes and racial
profiling that Americans hand down from generation to generation are damaging not only to the
minorities but to those perpetuating them as well. The behaviors that are kept alive because of
these negative stereotypes and the behaviors associated with them, create an emotional and social
struggle as well as presenting obstacles when receiving an education and employment opportunities.

racism is a controversial topic, other issues have experienced just as much contention. One of these
is discrimination. Discrimination is the denial of equal rights because of someones personal

Prospero was seen as a God of his civilization because he was the richest amongst all of the people

The masquerade, however, dispels the sense of claustrophobia within the palace by liberating the
inner demons of the guests. These demons are then embodied by the grotesque costumes. Like the
carnival, the masquerade urges the abandonment of social conventions and rigid senses of personal
identity. However, the mysterious guest illuminates the extent to which Prospero and his guests
police the limits of social convention. When the mysterious guest uses his costume to portray the

knows, the prosperity of the party relies upon the psychological transformation of fear about the
Red Death into revelry. When the mysterious guest dramatizes his own version of revelry as the
fear that cannot be spoken, he violates an implicit social rule of the masquerade. The fall of Prospero

It also shows her trying to save herself from persecution of these people also. She changes the
names of the people within her story, and writes under a different name to save herself from

Harriet Jacobs says, I have not written my experiences in order to attract attention to myself; on
the contrary, it would have been more pleasant to me to have been silent about my own history.
Harriet is correct in this statement she could have sat back and let slavery go on without her
stating what happened to her. She wants to bring awareness in the North about the conflicting

the true integrity of herself as an African American women living in the South during the period of

The Importance Of Censorship In College Education
The United States, the land of the free, prides itself in the rights given to its people. Despite the
acclaimed freedom of America, Americans, especially college students, are not as free as the
founding fathers would have hoped. When the First Amendment was adopted on December 15,
1791, Americans were given the Freedom of Religion, Speech, the Press, Assembly, and Petition.
While the Constitution clearly grants these rights to all U.S. citizens, individuals still fight for these
freedoms. Specifically, the Freedom of Speechis an ongoing issue which people continue to pursue.
This freedom is essential to student growth in higher education, yet collegestudents are often
limited by what they can say while on campus. The censorship of individual and group speech
threatens the purpose of a liberal education. It also limits the freedoms of a free society.
Students should be encouraged to voice their individual feelings and views on worldly issues,
instead of being shunned and threatened for doing so. The purpose of a liberal education is to not
only to educate individuals but also to introduce them to the different cultures and beliefs of the
students they sit beside during class. Exposure to the views of others allows students to expand
their own knowledge on current issues, individual rights, cultural differences, and more. An
important part of one s education is to grow spiritually, individually, and culturally, as well as
intellectually. One must note that the experiences

Andy Warhol Accomplishments
When considering the life and works of Andy Warhol, one thing is agreed upon for good or bad,
he changed the visual construction of the world we live in. His window advertisements were the
beginning of an era, where art would be seen in an array of forms away from the traditional
paintings and sculptures of the old world. He made people see everyday material objects in a
whole new light; through Pop Arthe could transform mundane into extraordinary. He was a
working man, a social climber, a builder, an acquirer of goods, and a known homosexual. These
attributes all contributed to the interesting and complicated nature of his art. One of the most
significant decades in 20th century art, the 1960s saw the rise of Pop Art, Op Art, Minimalism,
Conceptual Art, Performance Art, and Feminist Art, among countless other styles and movements.
Artists began to notice that American culture was filled with commercial images: on television and
billboards, and in magazines and newspapers, commercial art was used to sell everything from
dish scrubbers to soup cans to cars to movie stars and their movies. Pop artists used commercial art
techniques to create new artistic forms. Andy Warholwas born in 1930, in the town of McKeesport,

How Does Ethanol Affect The Rate Of Respiration In Yeast
The effect of ethanol on yeast respiration
Purpose: To use the phenolphthalein indicator to indicate the respiratory activity of yeast cells
Hypothesis: The greater the concentration of ethanol, the slower the rate of respiration will be.
Conclusion
We conducted this experiment in order to observe the rate of respiration in yeast cells. When yeast
cells metabolize glucose, they produce carbon dioxide and that can change the color of water. This
connects to the purpose of this lab because respiration produces CO2 which is acidic and lowers
the solution s pH. Rate of respiration cannot be measured directly; however, it produces CO2
which is acidic and will lower the pH of a solution, meaning that if the solution s pH drops
sufficiently, the color (huge indicator) would change. In this scenario, phenolphthalein, which
changes color from pink to colorless at pH 8.2, was used. The time taken for decolorization
corresponds to rate of CO2 production which is inversely proportionate to rate of respiration
(shorter time = greater rate).
Prior to this lab, we were aware of the fact that most of the time, the ... Show more content on

knowing whether there were temperature changes from the time we put the samples into the water
bath and the time we took them out, meaning that the rate of respiration may have been affected in
other ways instead of just the amount of ethanol present in the sample. In order to prevent this
limitation, we could consistently monitor the temperature by adding a thermometer in the water so
that we can be aware of any changes if they

Asch On Conformity
Although not every individual is affected by it, the fear of being alone is prevalent throughout the
world. Monophobia, or the fear of being alone, can cause a person to conform. Whether it be to a
majority, a small group, a single individual, or an idea, conforming is so frequent that it is often
performed blindly. A common example of conformityis dress code within a workplace. If
somebody sees their coworkers wearing a suit and tie, odds are that they will conform to this
standard and dress the same way, in order to not stand out. So why exactly do we conform?
Author Doris Lessing provides an answer to this question in her article, Group Minds. Lessing
describes how westerners conform and how it affects their individuality. Social psychologist at
Rutgers University, Solomon Asch provides similar ideas, but in a more scientific manner. In his
article, Opinions and Social Pressure, Asch studies how men conform to the social pressures of a
group. While each piece presents feasible information, Asch delivers said information in a more
credible format. Lessing and Asch take different approaches to address this topic. Lessing takes a
more philosophical approach, focusing on a western attitude towards conformity. She opens by

Rhone-Poulenc Rorer, Inc Case-Study

1.
Almost every aspect of the complexity of the merger can be explained through RhГґne Poulenc s
financial constraints. RP s motives to acquire Rorer were to create crucial capital for its own
strategic entry into pharmaceuticals. RP could not buy Rorer either in cash or shares due to the
following factors:
First, RP had limited ability to pay with borrowed cash. The company was more levered than other
firms in the industry. RhГґne Poulenc didn t want to borrow all the cash because it would have

In turn, the world population was aging, analysts noted that computers and biotechnology were

The $3.2 billion merger was consummated in a three stage transaction, by which RhГґne Poulenc
obtained 68% of Rorer s common stock (91.6 shares), which was enough to permit RhГґne Poulenc
to consolidate Rorer s results for financial reporting.
First, RhГґne Poulenc would tender for 50.1% (43.2 million shares) of Rorer s common stock for
$36.50 cash per share. RhГґne Poulenc increased its debt/capital ratio to 45% by borrowing the
funds to finance the tender offer. The debt/capital ratio was considerably high compared to its
competitors ratio of 20 30%.
Second, Rorer assumed $265 million of RP debt (guaranteed by RP), made a $20 million cash
payment to RP, and issued 48.4 million new common shares to RP in exchange for RP s HPB

  • 2. Impact Of Globalization On Non Institutional Investors Impact on Non HFT institutional investors There is a severe variation of capital at risk of high frequency trading when compared to capita at risk for institutional investors as noted by KF Y. Capital at risk is the total amount of capital that an organization deploys in all of its market positions at any specific point of time, as defined by IRRC institute. A high frequency trader generally keeps its capital at risk negligible. Although, HFT companies contributes for nearly 65% by volume in equities, their capital risk is small. On the other hand, the institutional investors or non high frequency traders amount to a larger market ownership, more than 64% at the end of 2009. The hypothesis is that a small percentage of minority ownership... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is no definite scientific proof for the same but there are some anecdotal evidences. It is evident that the Flash Crash of May 6, 2010 was provoked by HFT resulting in the decline in markets in a very short amount of time. However, it was a singular event, and thus, the assessment cannot be verified that HFT caused a systemic disruption. Different HFT Strategies There are primarily 3 high frequency trading strategies: Liquidity providing, trading the tape and Statistical Trading. And each of these three strategies are classified further into two sub categories. 1.LIQUIDITY PROVIDING Rebate Trading: This type of trading provides liquidity in stocks by posting bids and offers in order to collect ECN rebates without requiring capital gains. It is most prevalent in higher volume, lower volatility stocks and is capable of tolerating small trading losses (Borchgrevink, 2015). Example: Post bid to buy shares, upon execution immediately post offer on the inside market to sell position thus capturing rebate from ECN with or without capital gain (Borchgrevink, 2015). Market Making: It attempts to reduce spreads by creating a more liquid market and earns profit from the spread as well as ECN rebates for providing liquidity (Borchgrevink, 2015). Examples: ... • 3. The Human Condition By Hannah Arendt Hannah Arendt s most influential work The Human Condition was published in 1958. It makes distinctions between labor, work and action, between power, violence and strength and between property and wealth. It is surprising that more than 55 years later the originality and novelty of this book is still present. Arendt compels the reader to open their eyes and to look at the world and human affairs in new ways and with a completely different perspective. In her prologue she professes that she wants us to do nothing more than to think what we are doing. The Human Condition is associated with Arendt s work on totalitarianism. The Human Condition and her work on totalitarianism work together to highlight the contemporary human predicament. Arendt s interest in human affairs was due to her encounter with Nazis which led to her interest and participation in political activities. Hannah Arendt developed her philosophy of education during her time in the United States. Her philosophy is shaped by the political turmoil that played out in public schools at that time. Arendt was influenced by many philosophers. One sees Jasper s influence in The Human Condition in which Arendt developed this idea of action: public, political behavior based on communication (Snelgrove, 4). Hannah Arendt was struck by Cal Marx s picture of individuality which was devoted to production and consumption. For Arendt this is a revealing representation of modern society in which economic concerns have come ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Grapes Of Wrath By Ma Joad Ma Joad: Keeping her family in line since 1939 In a time where women were considered inferior, The Grapes of Wrath uses secondary characters, specifically Ma Joad, to demonstrate a woman taking charge in a family setting, and the relationships of such a woman with others. Ma helps amplify the theme of feminism and women s rights in different scenarios. Her relationships with Pa, her daughter Rose of Sharon, and even herself all convey different elements of an extraordinary leader and an amazing mother. Ma and Pa s relationship throughout The Grapes of Wrath defies the idea of a normal couple in the era of the Dust Bowl. They are represented very much as equals through the conflicts their family has to face, contrary to other couples, where the husband is in charge. Ma takes the lead in many situations and Pa respects, and maybe even fears her opinions. Ma commandeers decision making and often causes conflicts with her strong beliefs. This passage conveys the dynamic of their relationship very early on in the book: Pa broke in, But s pose there just ain t room? He had twisted his neck to look up at her, and he was ashamed. Her tone had made him ashamed. [...] She stopped, and Pa turned back, and his spirit was raw from the whipping. (Steinbeck 132) Not only does Pa look to Ma for advice, but he also notices that she has a higher authority over the family than he does. It becomes obvious as the book goes on that he is not well equipped to deal with the situations that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. High School Musical Analysis When watching a movie about high schoolers, there are usually many different groups of students who all conform to one social group only. Take the movie High School Musical for example. There is specifically one scene devoted to a song about fitting in with the status quo . There are stereotypical groups such as jocks, nerds, theater geeks, skater kids, and the popular kids in this movie and in other movies like it. Each of these groups can be broken down and explained more in depth. When thinking of a jock, people would most likely picture a muscular, sweaty guy wearing some sort of jersey. A stereotypical jock is usually also fairly popular, so there is some overlap between the groups in some cases. Everybody knows their name and whenever people talk to them, the subject of sports usually comes up. People ask questions like, How s the team looking this year? or When do you have practice? Being a jock doesn t necessarily mean that your grades are bad, but with practices every evening or two to three hours, finding time to study and work can be difficult for jocks. Teachers usually like jocks and they might ask them questions about the game from the week before. This bond between jocks and teachers can give the jocks an advantage. The teachers might be more lenient when it comes to assignments if they know that the jock has a big game coming up or had a tournament the weekend before. Nerds are on the opposite end of the spectrum. They tend to spend their free time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Body Care Products and their Impacts Essay Body care products. We use them every day. On our hair, on our body, on our face. And, sometimes but not often, we think about the environmental, ethical and social impacts it has. Nowadays, it s a standardised idea that it is extremely important to take in these factors when choosing and purchasing products; however, is it really as important as it is portrayed to be? To come to a conclusion as to whether or not it is important to think about the environmental, social and ethical impacts when buying a product, both sides shall be discussed. The environment is probably one of the most debatable subjects around right now. And yet another debatable aspect about the impact on the environment is related to the body products. One must be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chemicals used and the consequences related to them are similar to those stated above. Another factor where body products endanger the environment is when it comes to packaging. Statistics show that in fact body products make up a third of all landfill waste. The packaging being non bio degradable is left lying in landfills, waiting for hundreds of years to break down. With enough threats to the environment, is there really need to worsen its condition even more? As can be seen above, the environmental impact of body products is quite profound. Body products that go into the ocean can also cause dangerous consequences to the eco system, especially to the organism living there. Even the packaging of body products affects the environment. Therefore, the environmental impacts should be taken seriously when choosing a body care product. Yet, some are still doubtful. They think that perhaps they are part of a scheme to scare people with over exaggerated statistics and dangers. Some believe we are being too paranoid and easily swayed by what we hear. So are we creating needles worries and stirring a storm out of nothing? Before, we jump to conclusions too quickly by drawing conclusions from things we hear; we should see the concrete evidence first. Although there has been lots of research, nothing has been 100% confirmed nor are they extremely certain the effects are caused by the body care ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Mandatory Voting Age The Proper Voting Age Recently, there has been some debate whether the voting age should be lowered from 18 to 16, in an attempt to increase voter turnout. Yes, it may succeed in that but I believe the most important thing beyond voter turnout is educated voting. How much of the age group of 16 and 17 year olds follow politics closely enough to make an educated decision? Many younger voters are influenced by their parents; it would just encourage people to have more children to give them more votes in a particular election. Essentially, it began when a former Marine, Daniel Ellsberg, who no longer supported war in Vietnam, leaked an analysis of American involvement there to The New York Times, starting in 1971. President Richard Nixon, a very private man, demanded that these Pentagon Papers be kept secret in order to prevent the public from finding out exactly what was going on. In March 1973, one of the burglars and a former CIA agent James McCord, reported a list of those in the government who were involved with the break in and cover up. Two of them were John Dean, who had been previously mentioned by FBI Director L. Patrick Gray, and Jeb Magruder, who had been involved with Nixon s campaign. Dean testified that Nixon knew about the cover up, and then Nixon refused to appear before the Senate Judicial Committee based on executive privilege, which allows officials to keep information private if releasing it would disrupt the function of the government. He had previously said that he would not invoke executive privilege. One of the longest lasting changes to Germany was the division of Germany into two separate nations, the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany), and the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). • 18. The Crucible Reverend Hale Essay In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, witchcraft is arising in Salem, Massachusetts and Reverend John Hale is the one at fault. Reverend Hale is a spiritual doctor who was chosen to come to salem to investigate what was going on. Numerous people were being accused of their involvement in witchcraft and were put to trial. Some town people confessed but some had nothing to confess, leading them to be hung or stoned to death. There are many justifications why the events in Salem occurred and the author brings them to the reader s attention, more than once. He shows them through many flaws. Reverend Hale is foolish, headstrong, and his self righteousness make him the one at blame for the Salem witch trials. Reverend hale s strong willed personality suddenly backfired, making him not trustworthy to the the court members and people of Salem. Hale contemplated a lot and spent more time on his studies. He stated that, the people he had named as witches, were not witches. Because he changed his mind so often, and went back on his word, the jury cannot trust him which made anything he said pointless. He quits the court when he says I denounce these proceedings I quit this court. (Miller). Since Hale was so hard headed, it took him awhile to realize the extent of the witch trials was extreme and that it was not active in the town of salem. It was a mixture of extreme ignorance, pure cruelty to banish the unwanted people of the town. As Elizabeth was signing john s death warrant, Hale was watching. Someone going around giving orders and making sure employees do what they have been ordered to do. At one point managers focused on the productivity and efficient division of labor and workers as an extension of machinery also known as Scientific Management. But in the years after WW2, there was an almost immediate change to this because of the introduction of The Human Relations Theory, also known as the behavioral theory of management. This theory saw workers in a different light; they were now seen as thinking beings with needs who liked to receive attention. Companies eventually saw that attention motivated employees and even allowed them to get more out of themselves for the benefit of the organization. The man known to have discovered the behavioral theory of management was Elton Mayo. Elton Mayo (12/26/1880 09/07/1949) was a psychologist, industrial researcher, and organizational theorist. These demons are then embodied by the grotesque costumes. Like the carnival, the masquerade urges the abandonment of social conventions and rigid senses of personal identity. However, the mysterious guest illuminates the extent to which Prospero and his guests police the limits of social convention. When the mysterious guest uses his costume to portray the fears that the masquerade is designed to counteract, Prospero responds antagonistically. As he knows, the prosperity of the party relies upon the psychological transformation of fear about the Red Death into revelry. When the mysterious guest dramatizes his own version of revelry as the fear that cannot be spoken, he violates an implicit social rule of the masquerade. The fall of Prospero ... • 35. The Importance Of Censorship In College Education The United States, the land of the free, prides itself in the rights given to its people. Despite the acclaimed freedom of America, Americans, especially college students, are not as free as the founding fathers would have hoped. When the First Amendment was adopted on December 15, 1791, Americans were given the Freedom of Religion, Speech, the Press, Assembly, and Petition. While the Constitution clearly grants these rights to all U.S. citizens, individuals still fight for these freedoms. Specifically, the Freedom of Speechis an ongoing issue which people continue to pursue. This freedom is essential to student growth in higher education, yet collegestudents are often limited by what they can say while on campus. The censorship of individual and group speech threatens the purpose of a liberal education. It also limits the freedoms of a free society. Students should be encouraged to voice their individual feelings and views on worldly issues, instead of being shunned and threatened for doing so. The purpose of a liberal education is to not only to educate individuals but also to introduce them to the different cultures and beliefs of the students they sit beside during class. Exposure to the views of others allows students to expand their own knowledge on current issues, individual rights, cultural differences, and more. An important part of one s education is to grow spiritually, individually, and culturally, as well as intellectually. One must note that the experiences ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His window advertisements were the beginning of an era, where art would be seen in an array of forms away from the traditional paintings and sculptures of the old world. He made people see everyday material objects in a whole new light; through Pop Arthe could transform mundane into extraordinary. He was a working man, a social climber, a builder, an acquirer of goods, and a known homosexual. These attributes all contributed to the interesting and complicated nature of his art. One of the most significant decades in 20th century art, the 1960s saw the rise of Pop Art, Op Art, Minimalism, Conceptual Art, Performance Art, and Feminist Art, among countless other styles and movements. Artists began to notice that American culture was filled with commercial images: on television and billboards, and in magazines and newspapers, commercial art was used to sell everything from dish scrubbers to soup cans to cars to movie stars and their movies. Acquaintances can now be better established through digital profiles, knowledge can be readily shared, thoughts and feelings are better formulated, and distance between the parties allows for better managing of the situation. This is especially true in regards to breaking up within relationships. The distance aspect allows the individual to disassociate from the other person with minimal knowledge to the outcome. Ambiguity and social habits remain the same with new age media but given the explicit, slow response and distant nature of new media in comparison to in person discussion allows for a potentially safer, manageable and controlled environment. • 41. How Does Ethanol Affect The Rate Of Respiration In Yeast The effect of ethanol on yeast respiration Purpose: To use the phenolphthalein indicator to indicate the respiratory activity of yeast cells Hypothesis: The greater the concentration of ethanol, the slower the rate of respiration will be. Conclusion We conducted this experiment in order to observe the rate of respiration in yeast cells. When yeast cells metabolize glucose, they produce carbon dioxide and that can change the color of water. This connects to the purpose of this lab because respiration produces CO2 which is acidic and lowers the solution s pH. Rate of respiration cannot be measured directly; however, it produces CO2 which is acidic and will lower the pH of a solution, meaning that if the solution s pH drops sufficiently, the color (huge indicator) would change. In this scenario, phenolphthalein, which changes color from pink to colorless at pH 8.2, was used. The time taken for decolorization corresponds to rate of CO2 production which is inversely proportionate to rate of respiration (shorter time = greater rate). Prior to this lab, we were aware of the fact that most of the time, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though a water bath is still better at maintaining temperature than other methods (eg: heating the glassware over flame, etc), they can also have fluctuating temperatures which in this case, would be very significant since temperature has a huge effect on the rate of respiration. There is no knowing whether there were temperature changes from the time we put the samples into the water bath and the time we took them out, meaning that the rate of respiration may have been affected in other ways instead of just the amount of ethanol present in the sample. In order to prevent this limitation, we could consistently monitor the temperature by adding a thermometer in the water so that we can be aware of any changes if they ... • 42. Asch On Conformity Although not every individual is affected by it, the fear of being alone is prevalent throughout the world. Monophobia, or the fear of being alone, can cause a person to conform. Whether it be to a majority, a small group, a single individual, or an idea, conforming is so frequent that it is often performed blindly. A common example of conformityis dress code within a workplace. If somebody sees their coworkers wearing a suit and tie, odds are that they will conform to this standard and dress the same way, in order to not stand out. So why exactly do we conform? Author Doris Lessing provides an answer to this question in her article, Group Minds. Lessing describes how westerners conform and how it affects their individuality. Social psychologist at Rutgers University, Solomon Asch provides similar ideas, but in a more scientific manner. In his article, Opinions and Social Pressure, Asch studies how men conform to the social pressures of a group. While each piece presents feasible information, Asch delivers said information in a more credible format. Lessing and Asch take different approaches to address this topic. Lessing takes a more philosophical approach, focusing on a western attitude towards conformity. She opens by stating that westerners view themselves as free individuals, but in actuality they are conforming to the groups they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... RP could not buy Rorer either in cash or shares due to the following factors: First, RP had limited ability to pay with borrowed cash. The company was more levered than other firms in the industry. RhГґne Poulenc didn t want to borrow all the cash because it would have affected in a negative way to its balance sheet despite the fact that it borrowed for the cash portion of the deal.
