A Comparison of the Two Film Versions of Romeo and Juliet
A Comparison of the Two Film Versions of Romeo and Juliet I have been studying the prologue to
Romeo and Juliet written by the magnificent playwright, William Shakespeare sometime between
1594 and 1596. Still globally acknowledged, it has been restyled by many directors for both stage
and screen. Shakespeare starts his play with a prologue: an introduction to a play or other piece of
writing. The prologue sets the tone of the theatrical production; it... Show more content on

Sir Lawrence Olivier reads Zeffirelli s narration. The tone of the narrator sounds calm, masculine
and very traditional. It sounds like a bedtime story trying to soothe the audience. Zeffirelli
focuses on familiarising his audience with the setting of the film. In stark contrast, an African
American female reads Luhrmann s narration. The TV changes channel to a news report,
immediately recognised as the prologue of the play. The verbal style of the film is set as the
female anchorwoman reads the prologue s original text in the tone of a journalistic
contemporary reportage in which we are accustomed to hearing the news of tragedies in modern
life. From the onset, Luhrmann makes his spectators aware of his modern setting and the fact
that he is making a clear cut modern movie. The prologue is read slowly, giving Luhrmann s
spectators enough time to chew on what is said. The way it is read and directed draws the
audience slowly as the camera zooms in on the reporter, wearing red to symbolise the blood shed
during the feud between the two households . There is a contrast in her background, the
Shakespearean language and her American accent. The prologue is marked as news broadcast on
television, a unique way of narrating. It sets the scene of the play by illustrating the violence

The Characteristics Of Odysseus In Homer s Odyssey
The main character in the Odyssey, Odysseus, displays many valuable traits throughout the
novel, which helped support the main idea that cunning, endurance, and loyalty are more
valuable than brute strength Odysseus was incredibly clever and cunning. He solved many
problems this way which was different than other heroes who relied on brute strength. Odysseus
recalled the horror in a telling of his encounter with Polyphemus his story is a gruesome story of
cannibalism ...but starting up laid hands on my companions...Tearing them limb from limb, he
made supper, and ate as does a mountain lion... (pg. 85) and he has to come up with a plan to
stop Polyphemus. Odysseus was able to come up with a plan to escape from Polyphemus and
defeat him [Seized] the olive stake, sharp at the tip, they plunged it in his eye (pg. 87)and him
and his men were able to leave the island. Odysseus defeated Troy by getting inside their gates
with a symbol of surrender and then returning to defeat the Trojans, he gave himself quite the
reputation This is also the sort of deed that brave man [Odysseus] did and dared within that
wooden horse where all we Argive chiefs were lying, bearing to the Trojans death and doom. (pg.
34) and he had stories told about his cleverness and cunning, even if his memory brought the
Trojans grief and misery when they heard his name. Odysseus sent his men to Circe s home, where
trusting her proved to be a detrimental mistake Now after she had given them

An in-Depth Analysis of the Use of Specific Musical...
The Romantic Era was a period of great change and emancipation. It moved away from strict laws
by allowing artistic freedom, experimentation and creativity. Romantic music evolved from ideas
established in earlier periods, such as the classical period, and went further through the use of
expression and passion. New musical concepts evolved due to current trends and the musicwas
deeply personal and nationalistic. Musical concepts including pitch, tone colour and dynamics and
expressive techniques each express the style of the Romantic period in differing ways. These
concepts are exemplified through Nocturne and Valse, both by Chopin.
Nocturne and Valse are both emotionally expressionistic pieces typical of the romantic era, written
by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the Nocturne is played with legato articulation, this creates more freedom and expression. The
Valse however, is played with Tempo Giusto. This means it is much more strict as it must be played
in exact time. This does not allow for variation, unlike the Nocturne, which is common with waltzes.
The smooth character of the Nocturne and Valse is also linked with the inclusion of sostenuto
articulation. The loud pedal creates an overlapping effect, which contributes to the nature of the
piece.
The type of layer relationship shown in both the Nocturne and Valse is homophonic. They consist
of a dominant melodic layer accompanied by subordinate harmonic layers.
Many composers of this time, reached for extremely high or low sounds. This was in search of
increased brilliance and depth in sound. Throughout the Nocturne the broken chords in the bass
span from relatively high to low pitch with the lowest note, an f, in bar 8 and the highest, an a#, in
bar 37. The treble experiences a similar type of pitch pattern, with notes ranging from mid pitch to
high pitch, which can be seen in bars 30 37 of the piece.
Romantic composers revelled in rich and sensuous sound, using tone colour to obtain variety of
mood and atmosphere. Never before had timbre been so important. Composers sought new ways of
blending and combining tone colours to achieve the most poignant and intense sound.
The Piano, the favourite instrument of the romantic age, was vastly

Essay about Parker’s Redemption
Parker s Redemption
Flannery O Connor s story Parker s Back introduces us to a man who feels incomplete and is
seeking to fill the empty space in his soul. He attempts to do so the only way he knows how, by
getting tattoos. He continues this until the front of [his body is] almost completely covered... (514).
In fact, Parker even considers getting a religious tattoo to appease his over zealously religious wife
Sarah Ruth. A brush with death that is literally a burning bush experience drives him to mark the
change in his life by getting that tattoo. He races to the tattoo parlor and demands to see the
religious tattoos. He chooses a Byzantine Christ. In this story, Flannery O Connor tries to show that

Whenever he gets a chance, he looks at his tattoos, but notices that the effect was not of one
intricate arabesque of colors but of something haphazard and botched. A huge dissatisfaction
would come over him.... As the space on the front of him for tattoos decreased, his
dissatisfaction grew and became general (514). He is seeking something greater. This
dissatisfaction is amplified when he meets Sarah Ruth. Even though he finds her physically
unattractive, he cannot help falling in love with her. She is the only person he reveals his true
name to. Several factors play into this attraction. Although Parker s tattoos were attractive to the
kind of girls he liked but who had never liked him before (513), Sarah Ruth detests them and
calls them vanity of vanities (515), and this playing hard to get fascinates him. Sarah Ruth s
religiosity attracts him as well: She had asked him if he was saved and he had replied that he
didn t see it was anything in particular to save him from. After that, inspired, Parker had said, I d
be saved enough if you was to kiss me (518). Although religion was something he ran from
previously, Parker desires to be near to it as an attempt to appease his unrest. But more importantly,
Sarah Ruth s demand to know his full name, his identity (something she does twice), is the
strongest attraction. When

Why Did The Inca Created Terraces
The Incans were sophisticated farmers. They used very advanced and specialised techniques to
grow a huge variety of crops. The Incans created terraces to grow their crops on. They built
terraces on the hillsides for two reasons. First to make hillsides flat and second to suit the
different altitude requirements of different plants. By building the terraces on the sides of
mountains the Incans also enabled their crops to get more sunlight instead of planting in the
shaded valleys. The terraces were formed with stone walls and included steps to move from one
level to the next. The stone walls prevented erosion. The stone walls were also used as they would
heat up during the day and slowly release heat into the soil when temperatures cooled

As a group of baptized believers, the Baptist are still holding to these truths that we believe can
be found Scripturally within the word of God. Again, although we may not experience physical
persecutions yet, to this day we are persecuted for what some would consider our traditional
views on the definition of a family, same sex marriages, abortions, just to name a few of the
stances we are yet being persecuted for. Although we are persecuted and sometimes even
labeled closed minded and not evolving with the times I will always uphold the word of God as
authoritative and surmise that it has the final say in all matters. Thank God and our forefathers
for their contribution to our religious freedom and liberties. Paul Lim post... To what extent were

Abraham Lincoln Synthesis Essay
Synthesis Essay Abraham Lincoln
As a leader, do you feel as though you could unite subordinates, units, organizations, or even a
nation? Abraham Lincoln faced the task of reunifying a nation, even during a time of civil war. He
was a visionary leader through the war as his actions advocated intellectual stimulation through
change management leading to decisions that shaped innovative efforts within the United States
Air Force (USAF) today. Additionally, Lincoln was an ethical leader, not for the actions that
history books recognize with the freedom of slavery, but more so for the decision to face ethical
challenges altering his behaviors through critical thinking. We will look at an example of how he

Lincoln valued this idea and wanted Lowe to brief the War Department. However, the War
Department was not receptive. In particular, General Winfield Scottcould not understand how this
idea would change strategy. General Scott believed it would hinder current operations and waste
time. Jarrow (2010) alludes to Lincoln s frustration and disappointment when Lowe returned with
this information. Lincoln s frustration stemmed from the lack of cognitive flexibility that General
Scott was demonstrating. The Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education [BCEE] (2017a)
highlights that cognitive flexibility involves incorporating different thinking strategies and mental
frameworks into your planning, decision making, and day to day activities (pg. 4). Lincoln
believed in Lowes idea; therefore, he took it upon himself to go to the War Department and address
the matter. A few days later, hot air balloons were scanning the battlefields and relaying messages to
ground commanders. Lincoln s trust in this innovative idea and understanding of change altered the
dynamics of war; now aerial reconnaissance guaranteed information to the Union Army concerning
the battlefield. This was a small vision that transformed into an essential part of today s USAF
mission of ISR. Now that we have discussed the visionary leadership of Lincoln, let us change

themes in A Tale of Two Cities is oppression and violence, which is making life difficult for those

Expositions Of Exposition In Trifles By Susan Glaspell
11. Exposition: The exposition in a play gives background information to the audience about the
characters and situations the characters are in. Expositions are necessary in plays because without
them, audience members would have no clue what is going on. Expositions are also useful in
letting an audience know what to expect and see later on in a play. Exposition can occur through
action, narration, or dialogue from the characters. In Trifles, by Susan Glaspell, the exposition
occurs through action and dialogue. The characters Mrs. Peters, Mrs. Hale, Mr. Hale, the sheriff,

that something bad must have occurred at that house. Mr. Hale then... Show more content on

It occurs after the conflict of a play is displayed to indicate that the falling action will soon be
taking place. Climax is important in literature as it helps the audience get ready for the resolution.
After a climax occurs, audience members can usually guess what will happen in the end. Climax
can also aide in the understanding of the rising action that occurred before hand. Sometimes the
climax can be a plot twist and make a plot more interesting and exciting. The climax in the play
Zombie Love, by Earl T. Roske, is used thoughtfully due to the fact that it is surprising and
unexpected. The conflict in the play is centered on, Emily and Kathy, two best friends who can t
agree about one thing, Emily s zombie boyfriend. The climax occurs when Emily has Walter
turn Kathy into a zombie as well, so she doesn t have to lose her boyfriend or best friend. The
climax in this play lets the audience know that Emily is a selfish person as she took the life away
from her best friend in order to get the best of both worlds.

The Identity Crisis In John Okada s No-No Boy
John Okada s novel of the same name of these disloyal men, No No Boy, traces 25 year old Ichiro
Yamada s experience directly after his internment and imprisonment, as he moves back home to
Seattle. Here, he is attempting to reconcile his internment in a nation he once thought belonged to,
and now is placed in a nation that is cold and unwelcoming to Japanese American citizens. Ichiro
returns home to his mother, father and brother who all have helped manifest Ichiro s identity
crisis in some way. Although Ichiro was born in American and his full American citizenship, he
feels displaced by his own citizenship, Okada writes, I blame myself and I blame you. (Okada

imprisonment, Ichiro was a scholar, Okada writes, He had almost forgotten that there had been a
time before the war when had had actually gone to college for two years and studiously applied
himself to courses in the engineering school. The statement staggered him. Was that all there was
to it? Did she mean to sit there and imply that the four intervening years were to be casually
forgotten and life resumed as if there had been no fours and no war... (Okada ##) Importantly,
Okada demonstrates that Ichiro s disillusionment is learned and brought onto him by outside forces.
Ichiro does not see his dual identity, or does not view it as a negative, until he is imprisoned by the

Disadvantages Of Crumple Zones
Crumple Zones Crumple zones are a safety feature in many cars that can greatly reduce the
impact of crashes. They are a feature that saves lives, and as humans advance in technology,
crumple zones are improving to reduce the impact of crashes by even more. Car Safety Pictures
10 September 2008. HowStuffWorks.com. 27 July 2017 Crumple zones reduce the force in a
crash when they deform and crumple. This is a very effective way of reducing force because it
redistributes the force of the crash around the car, as well as increasing the time taken for the car

As well as other features, car crumple zones greatly improve the the safety of a vehicle. There
are very few disadvantages to having a new and working car crumple zone. The disadvantages
are: After a collision, the cost of repairs to the vehicle is greatly increased. Because crumple
zones are so effective, often even minor crashes must be repaired. Crumple zones also have to
be kept up to date because of road safety regulations. This is an extra expense, and also makes
selling cars with old safety systems difficult. In conclusion, it is very advantageous to have a
new and working crumple zone. Car crumple zones greatly reduce the force that reaches the
occupant of the car by redistributing the force of the collision around the car, and increasing the
time taken for the car to stop. Redistributed force means that less of the force of the impact
makes it to the occupant of the vehicle, and increased time taken for the car to stop means that
the force of the collision is actually lowered. All of this makes it less likely for people to be injured
in crashes, so crumple zones make vehicles

using an algorithm. This is one of the most improved and effective technique used in today s
architecture that is related to communication systems. This encryption combined all the different
services that are needed together without letting out the data to any of these services. This
homomorphic encryption data can be transferred into cryptographic encryption by altering the
design. This change allows their encryption to be used in cloud computing ... Show more content on

On the other hand any cryptographic encryption that s allows only limited arbitrary functions such
as multiple addition options but only one multiplicative option to perform on data is known as
partially homomorphic encryption. When compared with complete homomorphic encryption
partial encryption is much faster and more intact. Although this encryption is open to attacks and
can be attacked at its base but if this encryption is properly used then it can perform computations
in a secure environment. One of its important features is to secure data on cloud. It allows
customers to feel secure that their data has been protected on cloud but at times when the
customer wants to edit their data then the data needs to be decrypted by the cloud service
provider. The entire security of your data is lost and the cloud provider who is in procession of the
secret key can alter your personal data. The idea of homomorphic encryption started way back but
breakthrough in recent times with complete homomorphic encryption would break down the
problems faced by security in cloud computing and would wide spread cloud adaption.
New solution:
Homomorphic encryption are studied widely after they became very important and pat of many

John Millington Synge s Romantic Vision of the Aran...
John Millington Synge s Romantic Vision of the Aran Islands When John Millington Synge made
his way to the western most islands of Ireland he was in search of inspiration for his writing. The
fruit of his journey was the fame winning book entitled The Aran Islands. Synge had many
purposes for this book, but one of the most compelling was his desire to write an anthropologically
geared account of the people and lifestyle of what many believed to be the last bastion of true
Irishness. However, Synge s anthropological work could not avoid the strong Romantic tendencies
that influenced his writing. In my opinion it is Synge s Romanticismthat makes his account more
believable.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Part One of the book he begins by relating the image of the Aranmor countryside as he walks
through it for the first time. He states:
I was wandering out along the one good roadway of the island, looking over low walls on either
side into small flat fields of naked rock. I have seen nothing so desolate. Grey floods of water
were sweeping everywhere upon the limestone, making at times a wild torrent of the road...
Whenever the cloud lifted I could see the edge of the sea below me on the right, and the naked
ridge of the island above me on the other side... (Synge 2)
The most vivid aspect of this passage is the diction, which Synge uses to describe the island s
environment. More than once Synge uses the word naked to refer to the rock. He also builds
further that image by calling the land desolate and wild . Synge also makes an important play of the
colors of the Aran Islands. He uses the images of grey and black quite often throughout the book. At
one point he states that everywhere he turns he finds, ...the same grey obsession twining and
wreathing itself among the narrow fields... (Synge 46). By describing the island thus he helps the
reader build the image of the Aran Islands as something quite distinct from the lushness of the Irish
mainland. The contrast between the environment of the islands and the mainland is important for
Synge to establish,

View Of Justice Reflected By Amazing Grace Essay
Thrasymachan View of Justice Reflected in Amazing Grace In the Republic, Socrates starts the
discussion with the definition of justice. When Thrasymachus angrily interrupts and gives his own
definition, he in fact takes an opposite view on justice and argues that injustice is more
advantageous and profitable. Glaucon and Adiemantus further develop Thrasymachus view with a
theory of the nature and the origins of justiceand claim that justice is desired only for the sake of
rewards. In Amazing Grace, injustice happens every day at every corner of Mott Haven, yet there
are still a lot of citizens trying to lead a just life. In the conflict between the authorities and the Mott
Haven citizens, the ceaseless injustice in Mott Haven, and some people s just acts, Thrasymachan
view of justice is reflected. To start with, Thrasymachus argues that it is profitable to act unjustly
and harmful to act justly. When Thrasymachus first defines justice as nothing other than the
advantage of the stronger, he refers to the ruler, which is the stronger, and the ruled (Plato, 338c). In
this context, he believes that the ruling party in any type of regime tyranny, democracy, or
aristocracy makes laws to its own advantage and defines the acts to its disadvantage as unjust
(338d 339a). For the subjects it is just to obey the laws and serve the ruler s interest, so if there is a
conflict between the interests of the ruler and the subjects, the ruler seeks what benefits itself

The Great Depression and the Life of Italian Immigrant Workers
Commentary: In order to develop ideas for this paper, I first analyzed the time of the Depression
and what Italian Immigrants lives were like typically living in America. Using this background
knowledge, I was able to analyze the lifestyles of the working class in each of the stories. Even
though the background story of each of the family s lives differed, they all had a common basis in
that they were Italian Immigrant families working a hard lifestyle in order to support the family
during economic hardship. I revised this paper by looking to see if my ideas were clearly
expressed. I ran into an obstacle of trying to figure out which ideas to express, since the novels ...

Cooking and baking is a central quality of this family s lifestyle. The narrative goes into great
detail and this has to do with a cultural placement. For Giovanni s family, cooking and eating is a
set of cultural rituals and the making of an experience. It is a part of a performance art, not just a
consumption product. Another central quality of this family s lifestyle is essentially work. Puma
writes: With Johnny s help, father and son would finish up by eleven instead of after midnight for
the father alone. The next morning Johnny would still be sleepy, and his mother would tickle his
toes until he climbed out of bed for breakfast with his sister and brother. By then his father would
already be on the subway headed again for the pastry shop Downtown (From the Margins 86).
This shows that Giovanni s life centers around work. Giovanni spends most of his time working
about six days a week. He is doing this in order to support his family. In another scene when
Johnny is making dough, he sees bugs in the flour, and Giovanni also accidentally knocks
cigarette ashes into the flour. Giovanni shrugs it off as if it is no big deal. Giovanni is exhausted
and he is simply being realistic and just wants to get work done. Puma shows Giovanni s hard
lifestyle when he writes: The physical work, the heat from the ovens...the long hours for little pay in

This week s movie clip showed images and clips of before and after the visual effects in the
Great Gatsby. I was excited to see the visual effects used in this movie as it is one of my old time
favorite. Just seeing how the visual effects brought the movie to life was so amazing. I think this is
on the list of one of the most important elements in filmdesign, and I really think it doesn t get as
much recognition as it should. As the clips showed us before the visual effects, the movie looks

a movie without the use of visual effects, let s take the Great Gatsby for example. If there wasn t

The Mafia s Influence On Hip Hop
The Mafia s influence on Hip Hop In Rap, there is a unique culture, history, social impact and
influence on society. Hip Hop/Rap is one of the most popular genre of music. It has helped shape
the pop culture into what it is today. What is popular culture? The ideas, activities or products,
which are popular among the general mass. In today s pop culture, one subject that is at the top of
the list is hip hop/rap. Hip Hop music highlights verses consisting of slang and catchy phrases,
which some parents find troublesome. However, the younger generation find it to be an expression

When talking about the American Mafia, mostly it s referring to the Italians and their influence.
During the height of the Mafia its influence on society was massive and mostly in a negative
way. In pop culture, the Mafia represented violence, gang affiliations, and criminals. Although, in
the perspective of our generation today some view them as heroes. The reason for this is mostly
from the rise of hip hop in society and how people view it. The Mafia s impact on hip hop goes
up against various structures, glorifying the lives of mobsters over a significant time span such
as Al Capone, John Gotti, and Bugsy Siegel. The American Mafia originated in New York,
Chicago, New Orleans, Detroit, and Philadelphia during the 1920 s. Many generations later,
rappers would predominantly be born from these cities aspiring to get the many benefits of
fame, the sudden notoriety and popularity. Despite the fact that the height of the Mafia s impact

The Grimm Brothers Fairy Tales
Everything from music, to movies, and fairytales has been influenced by society. More
specifically, society has influenced the Grimm Brothers fairy tales. The Grimm Brothers fairy
tales would be considered dark and gruesome by today s standards. Parents would not allow their
own children near the stories, which caused society to give the tales a more PG feeling. The
tales changed and became what we know them as today. Disney has played a major role in
creating the innocent versions that today s early generations have experienced. While they rarely
admit it, societies, such as Disney, caused the original works of the Grimm Brothers to be
overshadowed by their infantile adaptations. Most of you have probably heard of the Grimm
brothers, and if you haven t heard of them, you have most likely seen their work. Disney movies
like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Cinderellaare child friendly versions of the Grimm
brothers original fairy tales. Ironically, the brothers had no intention on becoming story tellers,
when first starting their journey. The book The Annotated Brothers Grimmstated, that when trying
to study other languages they found it easiest and best to share stories that had been passed down
generation to generation. The brothers kept all the stories they had heard and published a book in
1812 called Kinder und Hausmarchen, which translates to Tales of Children and thee Home .

Throughout the book, Margery Kempe describes the events that took place during her lifetime, and
were written as she could remember them, not as a chronological and organized order. In today s

disorganized behavior, continuous hallucinations, and her self destructive behavior depicted

The Thousand and One Nights, is a frame tale, where there are stories within stories, in which all
the tales included have a connection. The overall frame of the tale is the transformation of a
good king to a tyrant, which was caused the deception of his wife that invoked the King s anger
by her infidelity. As the overall tale continues, stories come into perspective and back up the
main topic of the story by using its own issues as examples. When reading the recurring theme in
the overall frame and the stories within the story is rage. There is a frequency in the tales, in
where an issue occurs then it enrages the subject, which causes a consequence that affects the

Who Is Catherine The Great
Biography of Catherine the Great
One of the most interesting, hard working and powerful people to grace the pages of history
during the eighteenth century was Catherine II, Empress of Russia. Historians have not always
been so kind to her memory, and all too often one reads accounts of her private life, ignoring her
many achievements. The stories of her love affairs have been overly misinterpreted and can be
traced to a handful of French writers in the years immediately after Catherine s death, when
Republican France was fighting for its life against a coalition that included Russia.
Catherine was born Sophia Augusta Frederika of Anhalt Zerbst on April 21, 1729 in Stettin, then
Germany, now Poland. Her father, Prince Christian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

man, you will be the most wretched creature on Earth. Watch your step, so far as affection for this
gentleman is concerned, think of yourself, Madame. The young couple settled down, but the
marriage was a miserable failure.
Catherine was disappointed with her marriage, but decided to stick it out and concentrate on
building herself a powerful group of allies. Catherine occupied herself with reading everything she
could lay her hands on. She discovered satisfaction in the works of Plato and Voltaire. Her interest
in the intellect caused an even greater distance between Peter and herself. The years passed and
there was still no heir in sight.
This of course irritated the Empress who wanted to secure a powerful dynasty, and could not do so
without the presence of a male heir. She thought it must be Catherine s fault because she was not

Elizabeth permitted an affair between Catherine and a Russian military officer named Serge

Great Barrier Reef Threats Essay
Threats to The Great Barrier Reef
The Great Barrier Reef is a reef located in the Coral Sea, on Australia s north eastern coast. It
stretches more than 2,300km along the state of Queensland s coastline, beginning at the tip of Cape
York Peninsula in the north and extending down to Bundaberg in the south.
The Great Barrier Reef has recently been faced with threats of climate change which is set to
wreak irreversible damage by the year 2030. This is because over the past century, human activities
have released considerable amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the
atmosphere. The majority of greenhouse gases come from burning fossil fuels to produce energy,
although deforestation, industrial processes, and some agricultural practices also emit gases into
the atmosphere. the increase of these greenhouse gases can change Earth s climate and result in
dangerous effects to human health and welfare and to ecosystems. The Great Barrier Reef has been
and will be more and more soon, greatly effected by this as well as other serious threats such as,
catchment pollution, coastal development and fishing.

Solar Cell And Its Industry
Solar Cell and Its Industry The conversion of the sunlight directly into electricity by using the
electronic properties of various suitable materials appears to be an attractive energy conversion
process and more or less an ideal alternative to available conventional energy sources. The solar
cell technology has developed enormously over the last four decades, initially for being used to
provide electrical power for spacecrafts and also more recently for various terrestrial
applications. The main reason for this technological development lies in the realization that
traditional fossil energy resources like coal, oil and gas are not just rapidly depleting, but they
also contribute to unpredictable and probably irreversible climate changes in the approaching
future through the extreme high emission levels of greenhouse gases (e.g. CO2, CO, SO2 and
P2O5) and also due to acidification. The photo voltaic source of energy that is solar irradiation,
has the major advantage of being widely distributed over the world. The solar irradiation falling on
the earth s surface is not a limiting factor and also supersedes our needs by far. Photovoltaic
industry has leapfrogged the barriers over the last three decades from merely being a conceptual
industry to a full fledged commercial industry. Recent major investments and the on hand
manufacturing facilities are only mainly for silicon based technologies, with more than 93% market

Gay Marriage Rights
Children don t choose their parents when they are born and for those who are adopted they often
don t have a choice at such a young age who their parents are either. These children can only hope
for loving parents no matter what race, sexuality or marital status. With knowing this, LGBT
couples rights when adopting children are still questioned. Even though abuse and divorce, which
can negatively affect a child s mental state, are possibilities in any relationship no matter what
sexuality. For most cases adopted children live happy lives and having gay parents is normal to
them. Still, the rights of LGBT couples being able to adopt children has been debated recently
with some saying these couples should not be allowed to adopt at all, and others saying that LGBT
couples should have the same rights as straight couples when adopting children. A third side to this
debate is that too many children are in foster careand it should be encouraged for every couple to

The Negative Effects Of Smoking On The Environment
Smokers possess the tendency to kill more people per year than guns. However, this does not only
include smokers, as second hand smoke also enhances the tendency of negativity on this planet.
Smokers negatively affect the environment through numerous ways and they cause irreparable
damage to the entire ecosystem, water pollution, land, air, etc. Different facts clearly depict that
how smoking creates a long lasting negative impact on this planet. The tobaccoindustry sacrifices
around 600 million trees every year to fulfill the rising trends of smokers. Excessive amount of
carbon dioxide production takes place because of excessive cigarettesmoking. The United States
contributes 16 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in a single year (Tobacco Free Life ).
Managing the tobacco industry in an effective manner would reduce the flow of carbon dioxide that
would create a proactive impact on the environment.
The Cultivation of tobacco also negatively creates an impact on the environment. The cultivation of
tobacco results in a negative effect on the land, deforestation, and world hunger. In certain third
world countries, governments emphasize mainly on tobacco cultivation and these results in limiting
the land allocated for edible food farming (Tobacco Free Life ). Different private organizations also
earn effectively through the platform because of which they opt for tobacco cultivation.
The resilient nature of this crop makes it extremely vulnerable to different diseases and pests. The
utilization of extra pesticides affects the crops and the land. Nicotine is widely used as a natural
pesticide and these pesticides possess the tendency to malign the water and soil. Some of the
commonly used pesticides in the tobacco industry are Imidacloprid, chlorpyrifos, 1,3
Dicloropropene, etc (Tobacco Free Life ).
Tobacco not only contributes towards water pollution, but it also results in different negative

these cigarette butts. Smoking also causes wildfires and they negatively affect different habitants

Porter Five Forces Analysis
PORTERS 5 FORCES FOR THE NORWEGIAN SMARTPHONE INDUSTRY.
Porter s Five Forces Model is one of the most used tools to analyze an industry and help to
develop a business strategy. Michael E Porter introduced the model in 1979, and published by
Harvard Business Review under the name How Competitive Forces Shape Strategy . The model
uses five forces that have been identified to categorize an industry as intensely competitive or not
competitive at all and this will then determine the attractiveness of the market. An attractive
industry with high profits will have high barriers to entry, weak supplier and buyer bargaining
power, few substitute products and low competition. An unattractive industry will have the mirror
image. Usually there are not these two outcomes of a porters five forces analysis.

Criminal Behavior Analysis
The ways in which offenders think about their potential actions are all diverse. This varied nature
can stem from the characteristics of the criminal being inherently different. However, the actual
crime commission can play a role in how offenders think about crime. This same thought process is
true for how an offender makes the decision to engage in criminal activity. There are countless
variables and factors that are moving and connected at any given time, that can result in the
engagement of criminal behavior and/or activity. Therefore, it is imperative that we understand the
complex thought processes that offenders participate in, with this knowledge we learn how to

For those offenders that are found guilty, the statement above also seems even more bizarre.
However, as we have learned this half of the semester, an often used method by white collar
criminals in their decision making process, as well as their own personal thought process about
their crime, often times can center around varied thoughts of deniability. Benson (1985), states that
normally with white collar crimes there is not necessarily a lengthy search of who committed the
crime, the primary focus is why. However, a great deal of the offenders use some tactic of
deniability to describe their decision making process during the commission of their crimes. For
example, some offenders deny that the person they embezzled from had enough money as it is,
therefore denial of a victim, which allowed the continuance of criminal behavior, activity, and
obviously thinking patterns. The deniability aspect can branch further into allowing the offender to
not feel shame for his or her actions, which is why they felt secure in committing the crime in the
first place. Also, they did not believe that there was actually a victim, for example a top executive
stealing millions from customers. The theme of deniability is vast, and covers a tremendous
amount of irrational thoughts and neutralizations, and from what I gathered from the literature,
allows the offender to build a positive

Testosterone is released from the leydig cells and circulates the body. Like estrogen, testosterone can
enter the target cell, bypassing the cell membrane and is transported to the nucleus by a carrier
protein. Testosterone is also a transcription factor in which testosterone binds to genes and
influences the function. Depending on the type of cell, testosterone can be converted into another
form before reaching the nucleus. Only about seven percent of circulating testosterone is converted
to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and less than one percent is converted to estrogen. Testosterone first
takes effect in the womb, allowing male reproductive organs to differentiate from female organs.
The presence or absence of testosterone determines whether a baby will be male or female. At the
onset of maturity, testosterone also signals other cells in the testes to begin production of sperm.
Secondary sex characteristics include hair distribution on the face and body, the deepening of the
voice as testosterone causes a growth in the larynx, induced male pattern fat distribution, bone
growth, increase in sex drive and behavior. The hypothalamus regulates the amount of testosterone
circulating the body by releasing follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone (Nieschlag,
Behre, and Nieschlag, 2012). Testosterone utilizes a negative feedback loop by acting upon the
hypothalamus to inhibit GnRH release and on the pituitary

To a greater extent doctors and well known figures are presenting that contraceptives aren t as
innocent as they seem. In this informative display given at the 4th National Forum on the Theology

possibly severe and physical side effects connected to contraceptives. She also talks about the

Roosevelt s Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine Essay
Before considering Professor X s assertion that the Roosevelt Corollary actually corrupted the
Monroe Doctrine s benevolent intent, it is worth considering whether or not the Monroe Docterine
was as benevolent as the unnamed professor seems to suggest. Professor X considers Monroe s
1823 Doctrine an act of benevolence, in which an increasingly dominant world power generously
extends protection over its continental neighbors. Yet the Professor ignores the inherently
imperialistic subtext that is contained within the Doctrine, and thus his comparison of the Monroe
Doctrineto the Roosevelt Corollaryomits a fundamental aspect of America s colonialist history.

Yet as the century progressed and America began using the Doctrine as the basis of militaristic
action, these countries struggled to reconcile the idea of America as an ever present force of veiled
imperialism within their own national identity. This deceptively paternalistic hierarchy produced an
evaluative system that relegated the recipient of such political protection as inferior, and
fundamentally undermined any larger political benevolence the Monroe Doctrine contained.

DTCA Sales Promotion
Synapsis
Direct to consumer advertising of prescription medicines (DTCA) can be defined as an effort
(usually via popular media) made by a pharmaceutical company to promote its prescription
products directly to patients.[1] DTCA is prohibited in Canada, under two provisions in Food and
Drugs Act, which is enforced by Health Canada. Despite this prohibition, Health Canada currently
allows two forms of advertising that mention either the product (reminder ads) or the indication
(help seeking ads), but not both.[1,2] The United States and New Zealand are the only countries
where direct to consumer advertising, including full product claim ads, is legal.[1,2] The $395
billion US pharmaceutical industry spent $5.2 billion on DTCA in 2015.[3]

According to an Apr. 2013 survey, 68% of doctors agree that prescription drugs are marketed
before safety profiles can be known.[3] In response to the Vioxx recall from the market in 2004, it
was proposed to institute a mandatory waiting period for new drugs before DTCA is being
permitted. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommended a two year advertising moratorium to
conduct adequate post marketing safety surveillance.[1] The same approach could be adopted as a
policy in Canada, to ensure patient safety, while promoting consumer empowerment by enabling
them to participate in informed decisions about their health care with their doctors.
Option 3: Mandatory Pre clearance of Drug Advertising by Health Canada
Drug advertisements should be reviewed and pre cleared by Health Canada in accordance with
their mandates. They have to contain a fair balance of information be provided to consumers,[4]
and require the disclosure of risks that are common and significant, as well as those that are rare
but serious (for example, paralysis or death). Health Canada could impose a fee for this service to
be paid by the pharmaceutical companies.

Reaction Paper On Deviance
Throughout the semester deviance has been our primary focus of the class, I actually have gotten
into the habit of determining things that I do whether they fall under the spectrum of deviant
behavior. Certain behaviors correlate with certain theories that have been enmeshed into
categories. Since many theories can be grouped together to explain certain behaviors I actually
have a few that I am going to be talking about today. But the main form of deviance that I will be
focusing on today is rape. Emotional numbness, Anxiety, loss of confidence and constant
flashbacks are just an array of things that these young girls will have to deal with for the rest of
their lives.
Rape is something that continues to happen not only in the United States, but in every country,
and is continuing to ruin many people s lives. Also there are myths that women and young girls
are the main victims when it comes to rape cases, although there may be many cases that are
directed mainly towards women , men and young boys are also victims. I believe that because it
is more common for women to get raped it s easier in a way to report it as to where if it were a
male, he may not want to report it because he would feel demasculinized, and embarrassed. But
what if you lived in a country where rape is considered normal amongst the villagers because
young girls , simply had it coming to them because for some reason they looked at a man or said
thank you to them. Obviously she was flirting with him and

was raised by my parents to never lose sight of my goals and to always have a positive work
ethic. My parents were born in India and they moved to Canada in hopes that their children

school like they did. My greatest eye opening experience was when I started working with my
mother as a general factory worker in grade ten. The working conditions were very tough in which
we stood for long hours and we had to be constantly working quickly. I met many great women and

Career Research: Agriscience Educator
Learning to do, Doing to learn, Earning to live, Living to serve is the motto of the National FFA

Agriscience educators teach in a project based learning environment that reaches all students by
teaching about innovative agricultural topics and working with new technology all while traveling

In conjunction with the FFA Organization, agriscience educators help students conduct Supervised
Agricultural Experiences (SAEs). These experiences are based on student interest and designed
to give the student an opportunity to build skills related to an agriscience career. One example of
an SAE would be working with a mentor to learn about poultry or hay production. Project based
learning happens every day in an ag classroom. Students gain knowledge and career skills related
to welding, construction, and even electrical work by conducting hands on learning activities
guided by an agriscience educators. Project based learning is not new. It is a concept that
agriscience education has built its foundation on. Not every student thrives in a traditional four
walled, 30 desk classroom with a person giving a lecture. Many students feel lost in this learning
setting. Agriscience education has the unique ability to reach many of those students who aren t
successful in a traditional classroom. Students have different learning styles. For example, one
student might have an auditory learning style which means that he or she learns best by hearing.
Another student might be a visual learner which means they learn by seeing. For many who find
success in agriscience, it is clear that they are tactile learners. These types of students are a hands
on learner who prefers to touch, move, build, or draw what you learn, and you tend to learn better

Dystopia In The Hunger Games
Ender Ho
Prof Jawad Ali
LBST 301
April 2014
Dystopia has never been a stranger to the science fiction movie genre nor popular culture. Indeed,
Metropolis (1927), set in a futuristic urban dystopia, is regarded as the first feature length science
fiction movie; Professor Saul Tobias of California State University, Fullerton, assigns his Liberal
Studies 300 students to watch the dystopian science fiction thriller, Blade Runner; and The Hunger
Games movie series set opening day and opening weekend gross records in North America.
Although dystopian science fiction films are, by definition, works of fiction, they resonate with its
viewers because the realities of poverty, oppression, and violence depicted in the films are indeed
realities in the world in which the viewer lives.
The Hunger Games is a series that holds the imagination captive, as its stories deal with themes
larger than itself. The themes amidst the dystopian setting are the same ones its viewers wrestle
with every day: love, compassion, and justice in the midst of oppression. The dystopian story
resonates with its viewers because it leaves open the possibility that injustice and oppression can
be overcome, but it acknowledges that the process will be unpleasant and loaded with hardships.
Yet for many this sort of cinema represents the only honest way of imaginatively responding to the
injustices in society. Films like The Hunger Games series create space for conversation about
oppressive systems in the world,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Concept
First of all what is a concept and why do we need it?. A concept is a way of categorizing and
organizing things and situations so that the human mind can function well and doesn t break down.
To continue with issue of the status of concept, we have three main options to identify concepts
which are mental representation, abilities and abstract objects.
Concepts as mental representations in which they contain psychological entities and their starting
point has to be from the representational theory of the mind. Where thinking happens in the internal
system of representation, in which beliefs and propositional attitudes enter into the mind as internal
symbols, example : Sue might believe that Dave is taller than Cathy, and also believe that ... Show

According to this theory some concepts and features are better than others. This type of theory has
its connection with Wittgenstein(1953) famous remark, in which things that fall under a same
concept and share a family resemblance can cause similarities and over lapping. The prototype
theory is there to deal and define things that are unexplained in the classical theory like lack of
definitions, objectivity. The prototype also has its disadvantages and limitations. Starting with
categorization when comparing the target object with a prototype, it fits the conceptual category if
there is enough overlap in terms of features. Another problem is compositionality. When a patently
complex concept has a prototype structure, it often has emergent properties, ones that don t derive
from the prototypes of its constituents, example PET FISH encodes properties such as brightly
colored, which have no basis in the prototype structure for either PET or

Why Did Sitting Bull Play In The Battle Of Little Bighorn
5. What hard dilemma did President Grant face after the discovery of gold in the Black Hills?
Why did this conflict between minors and Indians result in the Great Sioux War of 1876? What
role did Sitting Bull play in the Battle of Little Bighorn?
4. Why did Sitting Bull oppose the building of the Northern Pacific Railroad? What act of Bravery
did he perform at the Battle of Arrow Creek that added to his reputation as legendary leader of his
people? In 1874 gold was discovered in the Black Hills. President Grant was forced to make a harsh
decision because the Black Hills were located in the Great Sioux Reservation that the Indians had
gained under the Treaty of 1868. President Grant allowed miners to enter the Black Hills and
insisted that this act would be legalized. Government attempted to acquire the Black Hills where
the gold was located however Sitting Bull was against the sale of the land. The Great War of
Sioux 1876 resulted from a disagreement between miners and Indians. Miners had already began
to come to the Black Hills to mine for goal and the government allowed these things to happen.
Because Sitting Bull and his army men were not sure of what would happened when the white men
entered they were forced to attack in fear. They had not interfered with the gold rush, and although
they had not signed the Treaty of 1868, in sanctioned their residence in the unceded territory. (Utley

Ethical Issues In Healthsouth
HealthSouth is mentioned in this week s chapter regarding companies that have suffered due to
ethical and fraudulent behaviors. In the early 2000 s, HealthSouth was under investigation by the
SEC for overstating earnings by 2.5 billion dollars. Simply stated, the CEO, Richard Scrushy, and
his leadership team were cooking the books. Fortunately for HeatlhSouth, Jay Grinney succeeded
Scrushy and the company has rebounded better than before, seeing growth across the country and
showing increased stock prices (Macfadyen. 2015).

HealthSouth expects the Compliance Work Plan to be implemented and embraced by all
stakeholders in order to ensure success. As they have for years now, the findings are published on
the HealthSouth intranet site for employees to view.
Fortunately, our top executives and board of directors have set a good example and upheld the
business standards and values of the company. Remaining true to our mission to provide high
quality health care in the communities we serve, and maintaining our values of quality, integrity,

Bringing Peace to Northern Ireland Essay examples
Bringing Peace to Northern Ireland It has proved hard to bring peace to Northern Ireland. There are
many factors causing the difficulties. I think some are more important than others are. I think the
most important factors are as follows. Religion is a problems because throughout history there have
been rivalries between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland. Paramilitaries are a problem
because they have a huge amount of control. Difference of opinions between people is a problem
because it has been difficult to keep everyone happy. Extremists, to justify their actions, often refer

Martin McGuiness, the current Education Secretary, has openly admitted to being an ex IRA
member. Also Gerry Adams, a leader of Sinn Fein is believed (by Unionists) to have close
connections with the IRA. There are very recently problems with area boundaries. In September
2001, Catholic families were walking to school through a Protestant area. This caused problems for
Protestants as they couldn t see a need for them to walk through their area, especially as they claim
the same Catholics vandalise their properties. Throughout these recent events we can see why it has
been difficult to bring peace to Northern Ireland.
One reason for the obstacles in bringing peace is religion. Although the main argument is between
Nationalists and Unionists, Nationalists are mainly Catholic and Unionists are mainly Protestant.
Throughout history there has been an altercation between Protestants and Catholics in Ireland. I
think this began because in the 17th Century, both Elizabeth I and James I gave English Protestants
Irish Catholic rebel s land to increase the security in England. These Catholics did not like this
because they felt the land was rightfully theirs. They refused to accept that the land belonged to the
English Protestants. Catholics not only hated the Protestants for this but they resented British rule
because it was them that gave the Protestants the land.

The most commonly used instrument for hedging are Forward Rate, Futures Rate and currency
Options. According to Jean Folger (2012), Derivative is a contract between two or more parties
whose value is based on an agreed upon underlying financial asset, index or security. Then currency
derivatives are a contract whose prices are partially derived from the value of the underlying
currency that it represents. And firms especially MNC s commonly take positions in currency

  • 2. A Comparison of the Two Film Versions of Romeo and Juliet A Comparison of the Two Film Versions of Romeo and Juliet I have been studying the prologue to Romeo and Juliet written by the magnificent playwright, William Shakespeare sometime between 1594 and 1596. Still globally acknowledged, it has been restyled by many directors for both stage and screen. Shakespeare starts his play with a prologue: an introduction to a play or other piece of writing. The prologue sets the tone of the theatrical production; it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sir Lawrence Olivier reads Zeffirelli s narration. The tone of the narrator sounds calm, masculine and very traditional. It sounds like a bedtime story trying to soothe the audience. Zeffirelli focuses on familiarising his audience with the setting of the film. In stark contrast, an African American female reads Luhrmann s narration. The TV changes channel to a news report, immediately recognised as the prologue of the play. The verbal style of the film is set as the female anchorwoman reads the prologue s original text in the tone of a journalistic contemporary reportage in which we are accustomed to hearing the news of tragedies in modern life. From the onset, Luhrmann makes his spectators aware of his modern setting and the fact that he is making a clear cut modern movie. The prologue is read slowly, giving Luhrmann s spectators enough time to chew on what is said. The way it is read and directed draws the audience slowly as the camera zooms in on the reporter, wearing red to symbolise the blood shed during the feud between the two households . There is a contrast in her background, the Shakespearean language and her American accent. The prologue is marked as news broadcast on television, a unique way of narrating. It sets the scene of the play by illustrating the violence between the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He solved many problems this way which was different than other heroes who relied on brute strength. Odysseus recalled the horror in a telling of his encounter with Polyphemus his story is a gruesome story of cannibalism ...but starting up laid hands on my companions...Tearing them limb from limb, he made supper, and ate as does a mountain lion... Odysseus defeated Troy by getting inside their gates with a symbol of surrender and then returning to defeat the Trojans, he gave himself quite the reputation This is also the sort of deed that brave man [Odysseus] did and dared within that wooden horse where all we Argive chiefs were lying, bearing to the Trojans death and doom. • 4. An in-Depth Analysis of the Use of Specific Musical... The Romantic Era was a period of great change and emancipation. It moved away from strict laws by allowing artistic freedom, experimentation and creativity. Romantic music evolved from ideas established in earlier periods, such as the classical period, and went further through the use of expression and passion. New musical concepts evolved due to current trends and the musicwas deeply personal and nationalistic. Musical concepts including pitch, tone colour and dynamics and expressive techniques each express the style of the Romantic period in differing ways. These concepts are exemplified through Nocturne and Valse, both by Chopin. Nocturne and Valse are both emotionally expressionistic pieces typical of the romantic era, written by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the Nocturne is played with legato articulation, this creates more freedom and expression. The Valse however, is played with Tempo Giusto. This means it is much more strict as it must be played in exact time. This does not allow for variation, unlike the Nocturne, which is common with waltzes. The smooth character of the Nocturne and Valse is also linked with the inclusion of sostenuto articulation. The loud pedal creates an overlapping effect, which contributes to the nature of the piece. The type of layer relationship shown in both the Nocturne and Valse is homophonic. They consist of a dominant melodic layer accompanied by subordinate harmonic layers. Many composers of this time, reached for extremely high or low sounds. This was in search of increased brilliance and depth in sound. Throughout the Nocturne the broken chords in the bass span from relatively high to low pitch with the lowest note, an f, in bar 8 and the highest, an a#, in bar 37. The treble experiences a similar type of pitch pattern, with notes ranging from mid pitch to high pitch, which can be seen in bars 30 37 of the piece. Romantic composers revelled in rich and sensuous sound, using tone colour to obtain variety of mood and atmosphere. Never before had timbre been so important. Composers sought new ways of blending and combining tone colours to achieve the most poignant and intense sound. The Piano, the favourite instrument of the romantic age, was vastly ... This dissatisfaction is amplified when he meets Sarah Ruth. Even though he finds her physically unattractive, he cannot help falling in love with her. She is the only person he reveals his true name to. Several factors play into this attraction. Although Parker s tattoos were attractive to the kind of girls he liked but who had never liked him before (513), Sarah Ruth detests them and calls them vanity of vanities (515), and this playing hard to get fascinates him. Sarah Ruth s religiosity attracts him as well: She had asked him if he was saved and he had replied that he didn t see it was anything in particular to save him from. After that, inspired, Parker had said, I d be saved enough if you was to kiss me (518). Although religion was something he ran from previously, Parker desires to be near to it as an attempt to appease his unrest. The Incans created terraces to grow their crops on. They built terraces on the hillsides for two reasons. First to make hillsides flat and second to suit the different altitude requirements of different plants. By building the terraces on the sides of mountains the Incans also enabled their crops to get more sunlight instead of planting in the shaded valleys. The terraces were formed with stone walls and included steps to move from one level to the next. The stone walls prevented erosion. Abraham Lincoln faced the task of reunifying a nation, even during a time of civil war. He was a visionary leader through the war as his actions advocated intellectual stimulation through change management leading to decisions that shaped innovative efforts within the United States Air Force (USAF) today. Additionally, Lincoln was an ethical leader, not for the actions that history books recognize with the freedom of slavery, but more so for the decision to face ethical challenges altering his behaviors through critical thinking. However, the War Department was not receptive. In particular, General Winfield Scottcould not understand how this idea would change strategy. General Scott believed it would hinder current operations and waste time. Jarrow (2010) alludes to Lincoln s frustration and disappointment when Lowe returned with this information. Lincoln s frustration stemmed from the lack of cognitive flexibility that General Scott was demonstrating. The Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education [BCEE] (2017a) highlights that cognitive flexibility involves incorporating different thinking strategies and mental frameworks into your planning, decision making, and day to day activities (pg. 4). Lincoln believed in Lowes idea; therefore, he took it upon himself to go to the War Department and address the matter. A few days later, hot air balloons were scanning the battlefields and relaying messages to ground commanders. Lincoln s trust in this innovative idea and understanding of change altered the dynamics of war; now aerial reconnaissance guaranteed information to the Union Army concerning the battlefield. When we arrived at about 9:20, there were three Budget em ployees behind the counter and we could visibly see three computer monitors on the counter. Exposition: The exposition in a play gives background information to the audience about the characters and situations the characters are in. Expositions are necessary in plays because without them, audience members would have no clue what is going on. Expositions are also useful in letting an audience know what to expect and see later on in a play. Exposition can occur through action, narration, or dialogue from the characters. In Trifles, by Susan Glaspell, the exposition occurs through action and dialogue. Climax is important in literature as it helps the audience get ready for the resolution. After a climax occurs, audience members can usually guess what will happen in the end. Climax can also aide in the understanding of the rising action that occurred before hand. Sometimes the climax can be a plot twist and make a plot more interesting and exciting. The climax in the play Zombie Love, by Earl T. Roske, is used thoughtfully due to the fact that it is surprising and unexpected. The conflict in the play is centered on, Emily and Kathy, two best friends who can t agree about one thing, Emily s zombie boyfriend. The climax occurs when Emily has Walter turn Kathy into a zombie as well, so she doesn t have to lose her boyfriend or best friend. The Identity Crisis In John Okada s No-No Boy John Okada s novel of the same name of these disloyal men, No No Boy, traces 25 year old Ichiro Yamada s experience directly after his internment and imprisonment, as he moves back home to Seattle. Here, he is attempting to reconcile his internment in a nation he once thought belonged to, and now is placed in a nation that is cold and unwelcoming to Japanese American citizens. Ichiro returns home to his mother, father and brother who all have helped manifest Ichiro s identity crisis in some way. Although Ichiro was born in American and his full American citizenship, he feels displaced by his own citizenship, Okada writes, I blame myself and I blame you. (Okada 17). Ichiro blames himself for his imprisonment, but also blames his mother. Before his four year imprisonment, Ichiro was a scholar, Okada writes, He had almost forgotten that there had been a time before the war when had had actually gone to college for two years and studiously applied himself to courses in the engineering school. The statement staggered him. Was that all there was to it? There are very few disadvantages to having a new and working car crumple zone. The disadvantages are: After a collision, the cost of repairs to the vehicle is greatly increased. Because crumple zones are so effective, often even minor crashes must be repaired. Crumple zones also have to be kept up to date because of road safety regulations. This is an extra expense, and also makes selling cars with old safety systems difficult. In conclusion, it is very advantageous to have a new and working crumple zone. Car crumple zones greatly reduce the force that reaches the occupant of the car by redistributing the force of the collision around the car, and increasing the time taken for the car to stop. Redistributed force means that less of the force of the impact makes it to the occupant of the vehicle, and increased time taken for the car to stop means that the force of the collision is actually lowered. It is a type of encryption that allows all the computational process to be made available to carry on cryptographic which is one on a plain text using an algorithm. This is one of the most improved and effective technique used in today s architecture that is related to communication systems. John Millington Synge s Romantic Vision of the Aran Islands When John Millington Synge made his way to the western most islands of Ireland he was in search of inspiration for his writing. The fruit of his journey was the fame winning book entitled The Aran Islands. Synge had many purposes for this book, but one of the most compelling was his desire to write an anthropologically geared account of the people and lifestyle of what many believed to be the last bastion of true Irishness. However, Synge s anthropological work could not avoid the strong Romantic tendencies that influenced his writing. In my opinion it is Synge s Romanticismthat makes his account more believable.... He states: I was wandering out along the one good roadway of the island, looking over low walls on either side into small flat fields of naked rock. I have seen nothing so desolate. Grey floods of water were sweeping everywhere upon the limestone, making at times a wild torrent of the road... Whenever the cloud lifted I could see the edge of the sea below me on the right, and the naked ridge of the island above me on the other side... (Synge 2) The most vivid aspect of this passage is the diction, which Synge uses to describe the island s environment. More than once Synge uses the word naked to refer to the rock. He also builds further that image by calling the land desolate and wild . Synge also makes an important play of the colors of the Aran Islands. He uses the images of grey and black quite often throughout the book. At one point he states that everywhere he turns he finds, ...the same grey obsession twining and wreathing itself among the narrow fields... (Synge 46). When Thrasymachus angrily interrupts and gives his own definition, he in fact takes an opposite view on justice and argues that injustice is more advantageous and profitable. Glaucon and Adiemantus further develop Thrasymachus view with a theory of the nature and the origins of justiceand claim that justice is desired only for the sake of rewards. In Amazing Grace, injustice happens every day at every corner of Mott Haven, yet there are still a lot of citizens trying to lead a just life. In the conflict between the authorities and the Mott Haven citizens, the ceaseless injustice in Mott Haven, and some people s just acts, Thrasymachan view of justice is reflected. To start with, Thrasymachus argues that it is profitable to act unjustly and harmful to act justly. When Thrasymachus first defines justice as nothing other than the advantage of the stronger, he refers to the ruler, which is the stronger, and the ruled (Plato, 338c). In this context, he believes that the ruling party in any type of regime tyranny, democracy, or aristocracy makes laws to its own advantage and defines the acts to its disadvantage as unjust (338d 339a). The main reason for this technological development lies in the realization that traditional fossil energy resources like coal, oil and gas are not just rapidly depleting, but they also contribute to unpredictable and probably irreversible climate changes in the approaching future through the extreme high emission levels of greenhouse gases (e.g. CO2, CO, SO2 and P2O5) and also due to acidification. The photo voltaic source of energy that is solar irradiation, has the major advantage of being widely distributed over the world. The solar irradiation falling on the earth s surface is not a limiting factor and also supersedes our needs by far. Photovoltaic industry has leapfrogged the barriers over the last three decades from merely being a conceptual industry to a full fledged commercial industry. Recent major investments and the on hand manufacturing facilities are only mainly for silicon based technologies, with more than 93% market share, mainly due to its maturity, growth and huge ... These children can only hope for loving parents no matter what race, sexuality or marital status. With knowing this, LGBT couples rights when adopting children are still questioned. Even though abuse and divorce, which can negatively affect a child s mental state, are possibilities in any relationship no matter what sexuality. For most cases adopted children live happy lives and having gay parents is normal to them. Still, the rights of LGBT couples being able to adopt children has been debated recently with some saying these couples should not be allowed to adopt at all, and others saying that LGBT couples should have the same rights as straight couples when adopting children. A third side to this debate is that too many children are in foster careand it should be encouraged for every couple to adopt a child if they can. For the stance that LGBT couples should not be allowed to adopt, nature and religion and the main arguments. Allowing gay couples the right to adopt children could offend those who believe that homosexualityis a sin. Many religions believe that being gay is not correct and is punished in the afterlife. With this viewpoint of the LGBT community it is feared that gay parents will influence their children to also be gay leading to more sinners in the world. Another religious issue with ... Porter s Five Forces Model is one of the most used tools to analyze an industry and help to develop a business strategy. Michael E Porter introduced the model in 1979, and published by Harvard Business Review under the name How Competitive Forces Shape Strategy . The model uses five forces that have been identified to categorize an industry as intensely competitive or not competitive at all and this will then determine the attractiveness of the market. An attractive industry with high profits will have high barriers to entry, weak supplier and buyer bargaining power, few substitute products and low competition. An unattractive industry will have the mirror image. Usually there are not these two outcomes of a porters five forces analysis. This varied nature can stem from the characteristics of the criminal being inherently different. However, the actual crime commission can play a role in how offenders think about crime. This same thought process is true for how an offender makes the decision to engage in criminal activity. There are countless variables and factors that are moving and connected at any given time, that can result in the engagement of criminal behavior and/or activity. Therefore, it is imperative that we understand the complex thought processes that offenders participate in, with this knowledge we learn how to better protect society, as well as how to prevent further crimefrom occurring.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For those offenders that are found guilty, the statement above also seems even more bizarre. However, as we have learned this half of the semester, an often used method by white collar criminals in their decision making process, as well as their own personal thought process about their crime, often times can center around varied thoughts of deniability. Benson (1985), states that normally with white collar crimes there is not necessarily a lengthy search of who committed the crime, the primary focus is why. However, a great deal of the offenders use some tactic of deniability to describe their decision making process during the commission of their crimes. For example, some offenders deny that the person they embezzled from had enough money as it is, therefore denial of a victim, which allowed the continuance of criminal behavior, activity, and obviously thinking patterns. The deniability aspect can branch further into allowing the offender to not feel shame for his or her actions, which is why they felt secure in committing the crime in the first place. Also, they did not believe that there was actually a victim, for example a top executive stealing millions from customers. The theme of deniability is vast, and covers a tremendous amount of irrational thoughts and neutralizations, and from what I gathered from the literature, allows the offender to build a positive ...
