Significant Differences Between The Articles Of...
Introduction
There were significant differences between the governance system under the articles of
confederation and the new constitution. The weaknesses of the later caused bad experiences and
the clamor for a new constitution. For instance, under the articles of confederation, congress had no
power over interstate or foreign commerce (Constitution Society, n.d). States made their decisions
that were not always in the best interest of the whole nation. In addition, all federal laws were
enforced by the states because congress did not have the capacity to implement them. The outcome
is that some laws were ignored or misinterpreted (Ablavsky, 2014). This paper compares and
contrasts the form of governance under the Articles of Confederation ... Show more content on

For instance, all federal laws were enforced by state courts because Congress had no way of
enforcing them. Therefore, states could just ignore them without fear of retribution (Ablavsky,
2014). Furthermore, the constitution could only be amended with the approval of all countries,
which made it possible for some states to block legislation. Also, only state governments could act
directly on the people. The states were sovereign, and there was no independent executive. Lack of
a presidential figure meant that the U.S had no person to conduct foreign affairs. At one point,
Britain complained that there was no one to contact so as to initiate diplomacy (Clark, 2013). The
emergence of the Shay rebellion also demonstrated the weakness of the articles of the
confederation because it was attributed to the lack of a national army to respond to both internal
and external aggression. The national government was not allowed to raise an army and had no
resources to finance a state militia. Therefore, the rebellion demonstrated the need for a strong
central government. These weaknesses made it necessary for the U.S. to change its

Last, and most important, is that studies have not shown that more hours spent on homework leads
to more knowledge. Time spent on homework does not correlate to better test scores. Some
students can spend twice as much time as others and still not do as well. Grades do not necessarily
improve with more hours of homework. In conclusion, homework for high school students is not
necessary. Time is better spent getting exercise, working off stress and interacting with others.
Choose one of the following topics to address in your paper. Be sure to use specific reasons
/examples to support your point. Colorize your rough draft.
1. Many people feel Americans are too concerned with material goods. Think about your opinion on
this issue. Do you feel Americans are too materialistic? Support your opinion.
2. There is much discussion as to whether some video games are responsible for aggressive
behavior. Many adults want violent video games banned. Write a persuasive paper stating whether
you believe that violent video games are responsible for aggressive behavior.
3. Much attention is being paid today to improving the environment, yet many people feel the job is
overwhelming or not that important. Do you feel we should focus on improving our environment?
4. Due to potential problems, many school systems have adopted a policy that bans cell phones on
school grounds. However, some parents have

Analysis Of Helft Mir, Ihr Schwestern
Analysis of Helft mir, ihr Schwestern Helft mir, ihr Schwestern is song number five from Robert
Schumann s song cycle Frauenliebe und leben. The song cycle was set to the text of a poem
cycle of the same name by Adelbert von Chamisso. Each poem in the cycle provides a glimpse
into the story of a woman falling in love with a man, getting engaged and married to him, getting
pregnant and having a child, becoming a widow and finally sharing her life story with her
granddaughter. At the time that Schumann wrote this song cycle, he was going through a legal
battle with his future wife s father over the right to marry her. This poem cycle contains themes of
unending love, devotion, and longing that Schumann could personally relate to with his feelings for
Clara Wieck, who would soon become Clara Schumann. In this essay, I will demonstrate how
Frauenliebe und leben is directly reflective of Robert Schumanns own life experiences. In so doing,
I will be analyzing the ways in which Schumann set the music in a fashion that emphasized the
structure and emotional content of the poetry.
Robert Schumann used a variety of musical elements to support the text of Helft mir, ihr
Schwestern in both structurally and emotionally impactful ways. Each stanza of the poem has six
lines, where the third and sixth lines rhyme. With the setting of music to the poetry, three lines of
text constitute a phrase, and each stanza, in turn, has two phrases. This ultimately aligns the rhyme
and phrase

Core Skills Self Reflective Essay
Core Skills Self reflective Essay In this essay I will go through the most important skills that I
acquired in the last few years in relation to the ones needed in the industry. In addition, I will also
look at my weaknesses and what I can do to overcome them. Since I started my studies and up to
this date, I have learned a lot about what is required to work in the Aviation industry. There is a
wide range of skills required, although most of them apply to roles one can take on in the
specific industry. In other words, some skills are more role specific. Reflecting on my skills, I
believe I have excellent social, communication and language skills. These skills are essential in
any customer facing or team work oriented job. As explained by Morgeson, F. P. et al. in
Selecting individuals in team settings: The importance of social skills, personality characteristics,
and teamwork knowledge. (2005): Social skills are particularly important in team settings
because working in teams increases the interdependence among workers, typically producing
greater conflict, workload sharing, and coordination demands than work that is performed
independently... I have always been a people person and my communication with people is very
good. It gives me great pleasure to make other people laugh and cater for their needs. It has never
been difficult for me to form new friendships and maintain existing ones. For instance, when I was
in primary school, I had made a lot of friends, four

Gene Flow In Full Genotypes
Gene flow is the process by which individuals (full genotype), and/or the genetic material they
carry (certain alleles of genes), move from one population to another and is an important source of
genetic variation, because it brings new alleles in the population. Gene flow can be subdivided in
three categories: (1) Migration: the movement of full genotypes (individuals) from one population
to another within the same species, which may be further integrated later by breeding, (2)
Introgression: the movement of genes from one species or strain to another through a process of
successful mating (hybridization) and backcrossing, (3) Horizontal (or lateral) genetransfer: the
movement of genes from one species or strain to another without successful

Large Scale Change in Business
The business model is a design for a successful operation in business, identifying revenue sources,
customer base, product and details of financing. It describes the method of how an organization or
company creates, deliver and capture values in economics, social and cultural contexts. The
business model may also be used by the company to generate revenue and make profits from the
operations. The module, therefore, includes the components and functions of a business.
Large scale change
Short term plans There are several factors that should be considered before starting a business.
These factors could be personal, social, environmental, cultural among others. Some of these factors
include changing one s standard of living, start up cost among other factors. The financial state of
the company must be considered before starting a business or expanding it to other places. At this
stage, one considers business loans from financial institutions. Such institutions could be banks,
finance brokers and other loan brokers putting into consideration there different interest rates. For
the business to succeed there must be a plan as to what business of instance a franchise, buying
into an existing business or starting a business from the bottom. Expanding business in some new
areas always requires good research and proper design making. In this case, for instance opening a
jewelry shop in Shangai china will need some research done, and it is, therefore, important to try it

Behind Closed Doors
Analysis (350 words) The short story, Behind Closed Doors , is about a young girl who is
tricked into getting trafficked by being given the incentive of earning money for her sick father s
treatment. It vividly describes the betrayal by the protagonist s uncle in entering her into this sick
human trafficking trade. Her uncle s communicative behavior and registers show that at times bad
things must be done for a good reason. First, the use of communicative behavior allows us to see
how the uncle appeared as bad at first and we later find that he actually did those things for a good
reason. It shows us that because the buyer could not handle the little girl he actually got out of the
car and helping him take (her) into the deserted house .

A Comparison Of The Bachelor And The Bachelorette Franchise
If there was a topic that I was an expert in, it would be The Bachelor and The Bachelorette
franchise, and that is exactly what it is, a franchise. I have watched the shows since I was a little
girl, I remember watching them with my mother at a young age and now I watch them with my
friends. I have not watched every season, but I have watched a plenty. Many people do watch the
show for entertainment or so they believe, but studies have shown that it perpetrates the way that
people think about loveand life. Although, they do get entertainment from it, often people will leave
the show feeling entertained, amused, cheered up, or stimulated. (ARTICLE)
Some background information on the show, The Bachelorette; it is based off of the show The
Bachelor. The concept of the show centers around one woman finding love within a group of 25
suitors. A season typically only lasts 7 or 8 episodes, which is normally filmed over a span of 3
months. The first episode is primarily introducing the different men to the woman, with her only
learning their names and a few things about each of them. Throughout the middle of the season,
she will go on group dates and individual dates with all of the men. Each week she gives out roses
to the men that she would like to keep around and further develop relationships with. In the last
episode, there are 2 men remaining. They will meet her family and go on one final date. On the last
day, she will be standing in a beautiful destination

A Fair And Open Electoral System
For decades, Canadians have been defending their right to have a fair and open electoral system.
Since its creation in 1867, Canada has been proud to call itself a true democratic country, but today
there would be many people who disagree with this statement. The Canadian electoral system,
which uses First Past The Post (FPTP), has come under scrutiny for not being as fair as it claims to
be. Over the past couple of decades, many countries have switched their system to Proportional
Representation(PR) or some form of it. Based on successful results in other nations, Canada s
current FPTP system should change to Mixed Member Proportional (MMP), which is a form of
Proportional Representation, as it will allow for more fair elections. The intent of this paper is to
outline how an electoral reform from First Past the Post to Proportional Representation or Mixed
Member Proportional, will lead to more confidence in the government, more accurate seat vote
percentage, and better overall representation of the population.
The first past the post system runs on the idea that whichever party has the most votes wins. In
Canada, the government has split geographical regions into constituencies which are called
ridings. Each riding has a representative from each party that has chosen to have an individual
represent them. When the election date comes, voters will go to the polling station and cast their
vote for whichever individual they want to represent them. Whichever representative that

Male Gender Roles And Women
In society today, boys and girls are taught by those around them that there are but two ways only
to live a life the manly way and the feminine way and that to stray from one s designated role in
the world is unacceptable. Men in particular suffer from the confinement of gender roles and are
exposed pitilessly to society s punishing repercussions if one chooses to defy his preordained
position. I myself have felt the pungent sting of the male genderrole in my own life, having grown
up alongside a twin brother who was about as manly as a boycan be. I can recall one day only a few
years ago when I, thrilled and eager, was sitting down to watch my newly purchased copy of the

That was simply who I was. It took time and much self examination to eventually accept that there
was nothing wrong with me. I was not inferior to or less of a man than any other male in the world
merely a victim to a long line of harmful misunderstandings of the male gender. Society has set a
precedent of aggression, barbarity, and dominance for men to follow to be perceived as normal
, effecting youth negatively and damaging one s self image. Men are influenced strongly
everyday by the world around them to put aside traditionally feminine tendencies and behave
like a man beginning, first and foremost, in the home. The household serves as a boy s initial
introduction to the exclusive sector that is manhood. It is there that they are brought up and
reared to be the strapping, virile man they are destined to become. It is rare to find a boy who is
not at least familiar with the phrase Wipe some dirt on it, teaching them to [employ] the
automatic I m fine response to almost any emotional difficulty (Glazer 7) and fooling family
members into thinking they are valiantly tough warriors, dismissing any possibility of help or
protection. It is understood that boys run around and play in mud and scrape their knees while
girls sit inside and play with dolls any sign of the opposite being quickly ended by parents. Boys

The Secret Agent
Joseph Conrad s The Secret Agent is a before its time political masterpiece in the form of fictional
literature that grips the minds of an audience who may or may not have ever thought to question the
majority existence. After the occurrences of the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001, scholars,
educators, and the general public, in a desperate attempt to justify what was happening in the
United States, took notice of an otherwise buried great work. The terrorist theme in The Secret
Agent is initially straight forward to readers, but as the novelunravels with Conrad s immense use
of adjectives to describe the characters and setting of the story line, it becomes apparent that
Conrad s objective is to demonstrate social chaos as well as... Show more content on

On April 20th, 1999, two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, walked into their high school
and opened fire killing twelve fellow students, one teacher, and then finally themselves (Lamb). The
nation stood still. At that time, it was considered the deadliest school shooting in US history. After
the mourning and confusion opened way to questions, the students were closely examined and
people tried to make sense of why these two had planned for over a year to exterminate so many
innocent students and teachers. The Konformist, an anarchist website and blog, released statements
by Bill White of the Utopian Anarchist Party in response to the Columbine shootings. He stated
There is no ballot for young people, there is only the bullet. So it can be of no surprise today that
students have struck back with bullets and not through ineffective non violent civil disobedience (
Konformist ). White s salute to the two young men and their insurrection against the indoctrination
machine ( Konformist ), is in line with the notion that anarchism can be found in any rebellion
against the norm. Winnie, who lives her life to maintain a stable environment for her mentally
challenged brother, also manifests anarchy in a very different way. She revolts against her character
and in some ways against the role of the Victorian woman. Winnie momentarily breaks character
when she kills the man she is serving in return for stability. She becomes the novel s focused
anarchist. The only anarchist to correctly carry out such an extreme act to avenge her brother.
Literary reviewers such as Colas, suggests that Winnie failed her anarchist title when she took her
own life. He compares her to Satan as she shamefully begs Ossipon to care for her after murdering
Verloc (Colas). However, in the author s notes,

The Analysis Of Financial Statements
The analysis of financial statements is the critical process that is aimed at assessing the present
and past financial position and the results of operations that are carried out in a company. The
primary objective of this analysis is to establish the best possible estimates and predictions about
future results and conditions that the company can reach. It is based on two primary pieces of
knowledge, where the first is the in depth knowledge of the accounting model and the second
would be the domain of the tools used for the financial analysis, which enables the identification

A viable alternative to solve this problem is based on providing the company the analytical tools
necessary to include indicators of liquidity, solvency, and profitability, but also serve as support for

the efficiency of the management. The financial statements of a company facilitate efficient and

The Medieval Islamic Attitude Towards Christianity
The medieval Islamic attitude towards Christianity varied quite considerably; often Christians
would be considered as either People of the Book , or as heretics. There was a common belief
among Muslims that, while Muslims tolerated Christians and accepted them, Christians had a
tendency to pre condemn Muslims. On the other hand, although Christians did undeniably attempt
to convert Muhammad, and many other Muslims, to Christianity, as well as refer to them repeatedly
as pagans within their literature, it is almost understandable; within a century of the death of
Muhammad in 632, Islamhad spread across much of the known world, a dilemma that was
unfathomable, theologically incomprehensible and simply terrifying for most Christians.

It is clear that the East was a place that filled many European Christians with both fear and
fascination, but the very nature of the Christian holy places being largely ruled by Muslims meant
that the Christian West could not help but come into repeated contact with the East. The Islamic
world was generally associated with relentless stereotypes, such as the character of the oppressive
Oriental ruler, as well as the persistent idea of sexual immorality within Eastern customs. Some
Christian doctrines, for example the thirteenth century Franciscan friars, strongly identifies Islam
with the coming of the anti Christ, and many medieval Christian writers displayed resentment
towards Islam through attacking the basis of the religion in an attempt to undermine its validity.
Muslims in Christian literature were ultimately not Muslims at all, but the fictional, projected

In 1968, two black American male athletes made history at the Mexico Olympics by making a
silent protest against racial discrimination during the American National Anthem in the victory
ceremony. Tommie Smith and John Carlos, gold and bronze medalists in the 200m run stood with
their heads bowed and a black gloved hand raised as the American National Anthem played. Both
men wore black socks and no shoes and Smith wore a black scarf around his neck. They were
demonstrating against the continuing racial discrimination of black people in the United States.
When they left the stand at the end of the ceremony they were booed by the crowd. At the press
conference after the event Tommie Smith said: If I win I am an American, not a black
American. But if I did something bad then they would say a Negro . We are black and we are
proud of being black (BBC On this Day 1968: Black athletes make silent protest). Smith raised
his right fist to represent black power in America, and Carlos raised his left fist to represent
black unity. Together they form an arch of unity and power. The black scarf represented black
pride and the black socks with no shoes stood for black poverty in racist America. A person from

Beginning from deep within the depths of Nazi held territory to appearing on virtually every

advent of modern missile technology has changed the face of modern warfare and politics, and
coupled with the advent of the two stage hydrogen bomb, they have now brought humanity the
closest to another World War. Ballistic missile
development, proliferation, and usage have had one
of the largest and most profound impacts on modern warfare and international politics. On the cold

Suu Kyi did the same. Some in their country were concerned that both these leaders were too far
influenced by their time in the west. In order to disaffirm these concerns, Gandhi dressed like a
common Indian civilian. In this way, he was displaying his love for India over his love for
England. Suu kyi acted similarly. Suu Kyi was the daughter of the former leader of the country.
She could have dressed in all the opulence and affluence of royalty. Rather, in the film she
dressed simply, and elegantly. This dress choice reflected her graceful character. This costuming
decision gave us insight into Ang Suu s character. As Michelle Yeoh (the actress who played Suu
Kyi) told Pagesix, a branch of the NYTimes, the silk and cotton costumes are all Burmese.
(Pagesix.com Staff) Additionally, the movie pictured Suu Kyi in key scenes with flowers in her
hair. These flowers made Kyi look angelic.. To many westerners, these flowers represented the
hope for a greater life that Ang San Suu Kyi offered her nation. However, others viewed these
flowers as a threat. Hannah Beech of time.com writes about the real life military dictators of

Personal Media Manifesto Essay
Personal Media Manifesto Media usage can be a positive thing, it benefits many businesses as a
way to promote their brand and items, as well as creates networks for young entrepreneurs.
Media usage however, also has it down falls, from cyber bullying to misrepresenting news to
people as well as portraying a false image of what one should look like. Media is a blank canvas
for young minds to express themselves, and it is advancing so fast that it is being integrated in
our everyday lives. Which ever way you look at it, media can be interpreted in many different
ways, as the consumers are all different and have all had many different experiences. I
personally try not to let the media surrounding my life affect how I think, it is just hard, because
even though I am aware of it I still tend to let it get to me because it is in almost every aspect of

to post pictures and it is now used for news, pictures, videos, direct messages and much more.
These changes have been added because of the demand that lies within its users, who get easily

We Are Submerged Into A Vivid Retelling Of An African...
In Susie King Taylor s Memoir, we are submerged into a vivid retelling of an African American
woman s experience during her time serving as a nurse and laundress for African American
infantries during the Civil War. Taylor describes in great detail what life was like for the African
American soldiers whom she would care for during their battles against the rebels of the
confederacy. Taylor also shares what her own life was like prior to, during, and after her time as
an infantry worker. Taylor s personal story parallels the lives of many African Americans during
the civil war era, and the array of social challenges African Americans were forced to endure day
in and day out. As we look into this great recollection of history, it is important to understand the
significant influence education had over Taylor. During Taylor s lifetime, education granted her
the ability to survive during her time working for the military, educate those around that were
around her, and formulate her own life experiences into literature. Education is a very powerful
thing, it is a tool that allows us to challenge ourselves intellectually and achieve great amounts of
success. Education also serves as a crucial tool for survival. Being educated allowed Taylor to

her in escaping the racist environment she was exposed to in Savanna Georgia. Taylor s academic

My Group Presentation Was Over Myasthenia Gravis
My group presentation was over myasthenia gravis. Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular
auto immune disease that is characterized by fatigable weakness in the skeletal muscles. This
occurs at the neuromuscular junction, in which acetylcholine that is being released by the pre
synaptic neuron attaches to receptors at the post synaptic neuron in order to generate a muscle
contraction. Basically the body produces antibodies that block, alter, or destroy these receptors thus
halting motor neurons from signaling the muscles to contract. It is currently unknown why the
body makes these antibodies. There are a multitude of ways of treating MG these include
anticholinesterase, steroid, and immunosuppressant medicines. In my paper, I will focus on the
most long term solution of thymectomy by first giving an overview of characteristics of the surgery,
then contrasting open thymectomy (trans sternal and trans cervical) and video assisted thoracic
surgery (VATS), and finally focusing on the overall effectiveness of the surgery. First we must
define the term thymectomy, why it is needed, who should receive it, and the goals of the surgery.
A thymectomy in layman s terms is the surgical removal of the thymusgland. The thymus plays a
major role in immune defense for the human body. As already stated MG is an autoimmune disease

The Importance Of Education In Immigrant Students
Compared with the native born students, immigrant student success rate is significantly lower.
Many immigrant children who struggle to reach their optimum levels in school because of language
barriers, acculturation, and lack of resources at home. This problem is affecting thousands of young
immigrant studentis a negative way. When students newly come the United States, they have a
difficult time with learning the English language and adapting to the way that schools work. What
programs can schools implement to help immigrant student to ensure success in their new
environment?
The first article I researched was, I m Telling You...The Language Barrier Is the Most, the Biggest
Challenge : Barriers to Education among Karen Refugee Women in Australia (2012) by Paula
Watkins, Husna Razee, and Juliet Richters. The authors discussed about how language proficiency
is a prerequisite for economic, political, social and cultural integration (126). It made me aware
that in order to fit into a new culture you have to be able to understand them politically,
economically, and socially. The authors support this claim by doing a case study with female
immigrants from Burma to see how the lack of English proficiency effects them social,
economically, politically, and culturally (129 133). Their data and findings from the case study
showed that to be able to blend into a new society and culture you need to not just be English
proficient, but also have to know the environment that it

Personal Narrative-Off The Computer
Did I turn off the computer? Of course I did. Seriously, did I? My face was sweating, but I just
wanted to look away from that locked door but it was midnight and she was still awake.
Reanalyzing my own thoughts, I was pretty sure that I turned off the computer at precisely ten o
clock after counting to my lucky number seven before leaving. What if it s not off? What if it
explodes? Yes. No. I don t know, everything was getting worse. The bedroom became more of a
blur while the door seemed like the only clear thing to me. My thoughts were racing at a hundred
miles per hour as I tossed and turned through the agony and frustration. Gripping on my mom s
nine year old blanket, I wanted to scream very loud, but my parents were asleep. What are you
doing?!!! The computer is going to explode. No. Shut up. I DON T KNOW , I was hearing both
sides of her mind screaming either to give in or to stay strong. I could not take it anymore. I
NEEDED reassurance. I got off my bed to check my computer downstairs. With a fast heartbeat, I
hurried downstairs to check. It s off. It was relief for now. But I just sat there and stared off to
space, wondering when everything was going to be over. My desk is always orderly and pens are

Substantive Law Vs Procedural Law
Procedural law provides the process that a case will go through (whether it goes to trial or not).
Procedural law decides how a case will be tried and if all procedures were followed.
Substantive law defines how the facts in the case will be handled, as well as how the crime is to
be charged. It deals with the substance of the case.
Every charge is made up of elements. Elements are the specific acts needed to complete a crime.
Substantive law requires that the prosecutor or DPP prove every element of a crime in order for
someone to be convicted of that crime. The elements that are required will depend on the crime
with which the person is charged and the state s substantive laws. For example, for a driving while
intoxicated charge, it is

Aesthetics Of Aging Essay
An Aesthetics Of Aging

Dante, Comedy1
ARGUMENT: THE RELEASE FROM THE BODILY EGO
Many recent studies on visual culture highlight the representation of the body in photography as a
signifier of social constructions. Photography however has always played an important part in the
construction of the subject, a perspective that I suggest in what follows, one that combines
analytical concepts with aspects of the phenomenology of perception, indispensable for the
understanding of art works and of our relation to them.
By contrast with the overexposure of the body in commercial photography, photographers in ...

of the self. Instead of showing old people , her photographs become carriers of optical distortions,
signifiers of self perception and self representation. Rather than an instrument more or less adapted
to the necessities of life, the body is shown as something concurrently solid, stable, and changing,
movable. A paradox epitomized in the phrasing of the philosopher Marc
Richir as: an inner statue, infinitely labile and moving, ephemeral and changing in its
manifestations. (11)
An art photography perspective on aging connected to time, movement, and change neither
documents nor sentimentalizes but, I would argue, contributes to a creative rethinking of aging.
Significantly, I will not approach aging as a state (documented by the photographic image) but as a
process of growth (that is, of subject construction, and of shaping, adapting subjectivity to new
parameters). In this dynamics of change and becoming rather than a destructive agent, time is
conceived of as a formative category and a source of creativity.
How can photography visualize aspects of aging that do not merely correspond in a documentary
way to visible realities? How are such complex psychic structures as those related to aging
translated into visual patterns? These are the

Nuclear Power And Nuclear Facilities
In 2014, it was reported that nuclear reactors provided 2411 billion kWh, over 11% of the world s
electricity (Plans for Reactors). During that year, the International Energy Agency held special
attention toward hazardous scenarios. Minus the conspiracy, World Energy Outlook 2014 had a
special focus on nuclear power, and extends the scope of scenarios to 2040 (Plans for Reactors).
In 2030, it is noted that there will be sixty percent capacity growth among nuclear reactors.
Countries with existing nuclear power plant count will increasingly expand their nuclear
stations. China will have an increase of 46%, while Korea, Russia and India will have 30% all
together, whereas the US will have a 16% expansion of nuclear capacity. The plan in motion for
2030 is to have nuclear power plants to have low carbon pollution. It is noteworthy that in the
1980s, 218 power reactors started up, an average of one every 17 days (The Nuclear
Renaissance) today, there are more than 400 nuclear power plants already made and used, now
in the process of expanding their count. In the 1980s, the US had 47 reactors in their base, 18 in
Japan and 42 in France. Now, the generating capacity increased in various countries such as
USA, Belgium, Germany and Sweden. Many countries have power plants which increase in
capacity each year, ...in Switzerland, the capacity of its five reactors has been increased by 13.4%

Gender Stereotypes In The Gutting Of Couffignal
Carving Out Gender Stereotypes in The Gutting of Couffignal The Gutting of Couffignal is a
detective fiction short story written by Dashiell Hammett that focuses on the mystery surrounding
the attack on the town of Couffignal by an unknown gang, and more specifically, the robberies and
murders that ensue. Hammett s story is classified as hard boiled fiction, which Encyclopaedia
Britannica defines as a tough, unsentimental style of American crime writing (The Editors of
Encyclopaedia Britannica). Due to its hard boiled nature, The Gutting of Couffignal mainly focuses
on the issue of large scale crime in the city. However, throughout the story, Hammett uses gender
stereotyping of both the protagonist and the antagonist by the readers... Show more content on

Unlike the Continental Op, Princess Zhukovski allows some of her most significant actions to
be ruled by her own gender stereotyping. To begin with, the princess is taken by surprise when
the Op announces his suspicions of her. Her reaction proves that she does not believe he would
come to those conclusions, not only because she is of royal birth but also because she is a
woman. Once the princess realizes she is found out, Zhukovski attempts to gain sympathy from
the Continental Op by expressing the woes of her troublesome past life. She laments, There was
no place for us in world. Outcasts easily become outlaws (Hammett 250). Zhukovski hopes that
her sob story will touch the heart of the Continental Op and that her portrayal of the damsel in
distress will drive the point home, but the Continental Op is having none of it. Growing in
desperation, the princess plays her last card by seductively offering herself to him, and it appears
it is a hand she has played before. Zhukovski expects even the strongest willed men to bend before
her at the promise of a sexual favor. At the conclusion of the story, the princess employs both her
wealth and feminine wiles to save her own skin, bribing Flippo to kill the Continental Op for her.
Hammett illustrates her tactics when he writes She was singing, chanting, crooning Italian syllables
into his round face (252). Although Zhukovski successfully manipulates Flippo, it ultimately does
her no good; once the

The Pardoner And Summoner In The Canterbury Tales
The Relationship Between the Pardoner and Summoner
In The Canterbury Tales, written by Geoffrey Chaucer, characters from medieval times are
portrayed. Two important characters discussed are the Pardoner and the Summoner. The Pardoner
is a young man who sells church pardons to those who have done wrong. The Summoner is
responsible for issuing summons which order people to appear in court. Due to the author s view of
the church, the Pardoner and Summoner s physical description, and the two men s actions, it is
clear that the Pardoner and Summoner are in a homosexual relationship.
The author of The Canterbury Talesexpresses his views of the church through the characters he
chooses to portray. N.S. Thompson writes about the Pardoner and says, The Pardoner, who sells
indulgences for money on his own behalf (Chaucer, Geoffrey 54). The Pardoner lacks respect for
the people who come to him for indulgences. He is concerned about his own wealth instead of
helping others receive forgiveness. Thompson then describes the Summoner as, A man who knows
all the secrets of his parish and is in a position to take bribes and other gifts (Thompson, The
Canterbury Tales 45). The Summoner is only interested in receiving money and gifts from... Show

Theodore Roosevelt Contributions
Theodore Roosevelt spent his life trying to preserve the natural land and resources of the United
States, while promoting other countries to do so too. While president, he expanded the power of
the government to preserve land and create National Parks in order to promote a healthy use of the
land and allow all people in America to enjoy what the outdoors have to offer. Theodore Roosevelt
believed that the land was being over exploited by companies and land grabbers, therefore, he
wanted to protect the land, but wanted the land to still be used in a way that was healthy for the
environment and would benefit the greatest number of people.
Theodore Roosevelt was born in New York City in 1858 and is the second oldest child in the
family (The Life of Theodore Roosevelt). He loved to be in nature and enjoyed reading books,
therefore, he decided to combine both loves and studied nature (The Life of Theodore Roosevelt).
As a child, he gathered a collection of dead animals in order to preserve and study them then
created The Roosevelt Museum, a museum held in his room and keep an inaccurate description of
what he found or of what he saw in the marketplace (Roosevelt). Theodore Roosevelt suffered from
severe asthma and would have constant asthma attacks, but his father still pushed him to be
physically and mentally strong this is what made Roosevelt what he would become (The Life of
Theodore Roosevelt). Once he turned 18 he was accepted into Harvard planning on teaching history,

Bodily Commodification Summary
Almeling did a comparative analysis of how the social process of bodily commodification varies

construction of gender has influenced many aspects of society but it never occurred to me that
woman would be compensated more for their eggs than men for their sperm and that women of
color are paid more than both.
Although both egg and sperm are parallel in the creation of a child the terms of payment and
screening, and selection are subject to gender stereotyping. Almeling made some interesting
observations surrounding the end to end process of gender in the fertilization market. In advertising

Water Quality Of The Mine Drainage Running Into The Afon...
Treatment Plan The number of problems related to the water quality of the mine drainage running
into the Afon Goch North has meant that any remediation system must be multi staged.
Furthermore, the unique characteristics of the mine and the heavily polluted water requires an
exclusive method of mediation. The treatment system outlined uses passive systems that require
relatively little maintainence and have low running costs in order to be used as a long term solution
to the pollutionbeing produced.
Extending the Mine Adit Initially, the hillside needs to be excavated along the mine adit. An area of
approximately ***** m along the mine adit needs to be removed. This will allow further room to
construct the treatment system. Furthermore, the adit needs to be diverted from the path of the
Afon Goch North so polluted water can enter the river. The adit will enter river once treatment has
been completed.
Proposed System The water running from the mine adit is polluted with a number of elements
requiring various methods of extraction in order to purify water. As each mine setting is unique it
is often necessary to develop a system original to the site, as is the case at Parys Mountain. Figure
* shows the pathway of the mine drainage before eventually running off into the Afon Goch North.
As the water exits the mine with a pH below 2 and a near reducing condition, a peat biofilter will
work effectively to remove metals from solution. As the water travels through the

diagnosed with cancer. When exploring the 2013 incident rates of men with cancer black men
had an incident rate of 518. Compared to white men of 473.9, next came Hispanic and Asian;
black males had the highest death rate among all races (Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, 2016b). In regards to women, white women had an incident rate of 417.4, followed by
blacks, Hispanics, and Asians, but the highest death rate is among black women (Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, 2016b). According to the statistics the needs for increased
screening and care is needed in the African Americanand Hispanic community.
Hospice patients vary in age, race, and socioeconomic demographic. Hospice agency care for
neonate, pediatric, adult and generic patients, in 2014 0.5% of patients were less than 24 years
of age, 32.4.% of patients were 25 74 years of age , and 67.1% of patients were over 75 years of
age (National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, 2015). Most importantly when looking at
hospice patients by race/ethnicity, we are able to see the need for cultural diversity and
sensitivity, in 2014 76% of hospice patients were Caucasian, 7.6% were African American, and
7.1% were Hispanic or Latino. This indicates a decrease in diversity compared to the findings of
2013.

The People s Insurance Company Of Canada

Assignment: Midterm Assignment, Management 3990
While the intention was that the People s Insurance Company of Canada (PICC) would have an
organic organizational structure, this intention was at least partially offset by the close integration
of the Insurance company with the parent People s Bank. The result was an entity in which the
superficially organic, generally non hierarchical Insurance organization has been overridden by the
highly hierarchical and mechanistic bank organization. The PICC s actual structure has both
mechanistic and organic aspects. With regard to work specialization, it is generally narrow and
mechanistic with the VP for HR, Mary Thorne, fighting an ongoing battle with the Bank on the
grounds that PICC needed staff with specialized skills in the insurance industry. With respect to
chain of command, while the structure of PICC was intended to be open, non hierarchical and
organic, it is clear that it is generally mechanistic in its most important aspects. For example, while
there may be an open office environment in general, the senior team members have private offices.
Similarly, while the the emphasis of PICC is towards self managing teams, many approvals such
as new purchases had to be signed off by multiple layers of the bank s management. Thus, the chain
of command is very rigid in terms of its senior decision makers. In terms of centralization of
decision making, it appears that

Using Online Reading Comprehension Skills
To find whether a source is credible they must develop online reading comprehension skills; these
skills are crucial because other researchers have found that children go online to clarify what they
are being taught in school. When kids are curious about something or have a question, it s always
more difficult for the teacher to get to everyone right away in class so they naturally become
proactive and find it out for themselves (Tsikalas). Kids researching and looking up information
throughout the day can make huge impacts on their learning and also improve cognition. It might be
betterto say that today s children, more than ninety percent of whom will have an online history
by age two, are developing key tech friendly skills at an earlier age. By engaging kids brains in
more complex tasks at a young stage in their lives, toddlers are improving cognition, developing
critical review skills, and displaying a more advanced comprehension of both virtual and real
worlds. Along with stronger memory, better comprehension, and abstract thought, children who
regularly use the internetalso show a more proactive approach to gathering information and feel an
improved performance in reading comprehension. Language fluency and vocabulary get a boost as
well, and some kids even experience a jump in IQ as high as six points. Beyond mental

The Corruption Of Cairns Police
Few doubted the endemic corruption of Cairns police in the early years of the 20th century, with
the local cops so notoriously crooked even newspapers in far off Brisbane reported on their
transgressions.
When solicitor Percy Le Vaux represented property owner Peter Lumberg in an action against a
watch house constable for filching his watch during Lumberg s overnight incarceration, the
Brisbane Truth saw light at the end of the tunnel, believing this spark would ignite the fire that
brought the entire criminal edifice tumbling down. So it has come, at last, announced the paper.
However, a magistrate dismissed the case, and nothing changed.
Undeterred, Truth continued to publish veiled allegations that the police took bribes from criminal
overlords whose Sachs St enterprises included illegal gambling, sly grog shops, opium dens and
whore houses. Consequently, intent on quietening the vexatious scandal sheet, the Police
Commissioner transferred north Inspector Durham, a senior officer of impeccable credentials, but
again, nothing changed.
Until 5th September 1905.
On that date, a different inspector, the Inspector of Nuisances, a council officer, discovered the
aforementioned Lumberg hacked to death in the bush on the outskirts of town. Undoubtedly a
stingy old bugger, the unmarried and wealthy Lumberg invested money made in the gold rush years

Arrowhead Pharma is a company with several potential catalysts over the next two years that will
determine if they make it as a company. After the first quarter they only have $77 million in cash,
and they burned an average around $22 million a quarter in 2015. They are currently presenting
positive Phase I data at The International Liver Congress, which sent their shares up 12%

Argumentative Essay On Cute Girls
Cute Cute girls are the best girls in this world. Their cuteness makes the whole sex something
wildly arousing, as fucking a cute girl brings incredible amount of pleasure. These babes not
only look good, but can spice up the things in the bed beyond belief. Cute girl porn videos bring
loads of chicks which look beautiful, with their pretty faces as the focus of the clips. Cute babes
make the world go round. Cute girl sex videos are one of the most searched on the web, as they
have the prettiest girls acting in them, babes who are not only pretty but are very skilled when it
comes to sex. These babes will first show their beautiful bodies with curves in all the right places
while the camera frequently focuses on their mesmerizing faces. Nose, eyes, lips everything looks
just perfect. They will take off all of their clothes, and these naked cute girls will show to the...

They bang these babes the best they can in this condition, drilling their pussies with their erected
cocks. Some of them might even get a lot hornier from drinking so much, and shag the babes
like there s no tomorrow. These chicks, who are also, of course, drunk, will first give them a
drunken blowjob, where they suck the cock possibly enjoying that act more than when they are
sober. Guys will enjoy this cock sucking, but will just want for it to end so that they can
penetrate their cunts in drunken sex videos. Sometimes there s a party with loads of alcohol
drinks, where everyone will be carried by atmosphere and music, drink too much and then
collectively bang each other in a so called drunken orgy, where everyone drills the first hole which
he finds. These people don t care what might happen they are just incredibly horny and want to
fuck as soon as possible. Banging in a drunken state might be very pleasurable but sometimes also

Analysis Of Paradise Of The Blind
Concept of Love in Paradise of the Blind As one explores the novel, Paradise of the Blind, the
author Duong Thu Huong shows occurrence of the concept of love throughout her novel by
manipulating each character to show this through both their actions and emotions. Although the
characters are manipulated by the author to show love, it is the interactions between them that show
us the deeper analytical meaning behind their perspectives of love. Thus, the concept of love is
prevalent throughout Paradise of the Blind as shown through the progression and motives of main
and side characters. First, we will explore through the adventure of the trail of love between Hang

in to intervene. After being scolded by Aunt Tam, My motherlifted her head off the table and

degenerated slowly. I didn t know what to do, so I tried everything. ... First, there was her
coldness tinged with irony (Huong, 188). Through the progression of events, Aunt Tam
continuously provides for Hang while Que was not able to provide for her because of Uncle
Chinh s illness. Through this altercation, we see that as Aunt Tam provides for Hang
materialistically the relationship and love between Hang and Que starts to disintegrate. Starting
from motherly love and the progression to materialistic love and now finally the descent of love
between the two. Que feels that Hang looks up to Aunt Tam more than she does to her because
she demonstrates a feeling as if Aunt Tam is able to provide better for Hang than Que herself can
provide. Next, when Hang meets Aunt Tam for the first time within her life, Hang instinctually
feels a sense of the love that comes from that of a father through her Aunt because of their close
resemblance. Her initial emotional response was This voraciousness put me ill at ease. I knew she
was my blood, the link to my father. This was the love that had been buried, impossible to imagine

Similarities Between Bruxism And Sleep Apnea
Bruxism (teeth grinding) mainly occurs during sleep, which is why years often go by before

Not having personal time to relax
Untreated depression
Changing jobs or living arrangements

Books In The Outsiders
Over the last few years, more writers of fiction do not earn enough money to live from their writing.
The Australian government are thinking of giving them a hand by supporting them financially.
More writers of fiction are living their lives along the poverty line, the Australian government
should definitely give them a hand as it encourages good literature. Many fictional books are now
being used for educational purposes for schools in the subject of English. Fictionbooks teach
humans about how to live a good life in all sorts of forms. In this context, fictional books referred
to the class of literature comprising works of imaginative narration, especially in prose form.
It is essential that the Australian government should provide them with financial assistances

Within-Class Ability Grouping Essay
Within Class Ability Grouping
As a future educator ability grouping is more than likely going to be a part of my classroom. I
think it can and will be a valuable tool in effectively teaching all students of varying abilities.
Ability grouping is a greatly debated area in the field of education. Opponents to the practice
believe ability grouping is detrimental to learning and student self esteem, but ability grouping,
specifically within class ability grouping, can be very effective in teaching children. The students
are able to learn at a pace that is suitable to their individual abilities and teachers are able to
construct lessons that are specifically geared towards each level. Within class ability grouping
necessitates flexibility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This involves assigning students within the classroom to small groups based on ability with
each group working on their own material according to their ability level. Within class grouping
appears to be a useful means to facilitate student learning (Lou, 451). The positive effects are
slightly greater for low achieving students than for average or high achievers (Hollifield). A
child may have lower abilities in one subject, but be more proficient in another; the child should
be placed accordingly. For example, an elementary child may be placed in a low ability group for
reading and a high ability group for mathematics, but for social studies, spelling, and science be
with the entire class. This enables the child to get needed help in the weaker area and extra
stimulation in the stronger area while allowing the child to interact with all of his peers in other
subject areas. Many elementary schools use within class grouping and it has been effective.
W. R. Borg, educational researcher and author, examined the consequences of grouping systems by
comparing two adjacent school systems, one using homogeneous (children of the same ability)
groups, the other using heterogeneous (children of varying ability) grouping. Borg s research
concluded that elementary level ability grouping provided the slower and average pupils with a
better chance for social recognition than did random grouping

Russia and It s Culture
Most people can agree that Russia is an interesting culture, even if they know very little about it. It
has unique aspects to it, such as its political power, military, food, and even language. The US is
competitors with them, yet neither ever called for war. Russia is a very literate country, one of the
highest in literacy. Russia has so much more to it than its stereotype, such as being known for
large mobsters and mafia groups. Russia is much more than that, and not many people want to

Subliminal Context of Horror within Frankenstein by Mary...
Frankenstein deals with much. It has the obvious nightmarish terrors represented in the monster,
terrifying in both sight and murderous actions. There however exists a subliminal context of horror
within the narrative. The characters within the narrative reveal the moral shortcomings of
humanity, and when stripped to its base constructs, amount to little more than what the monster
becomes. It shows the psychological frailty of man, and when unhinged the dangers it is capable of.
The civilized mindcan refer to both the individual and society, or humanity as a whole. It is also
interesting and worth to note the interaction and juxtaposition of the two entities interacting with
each other; the terrors within the individual under the cloak of a civilized mind intermingling with
society and the demons in hides away in the shadows. Fearis oftentimes the culprit of a mind s
downfall. It transforms average anxieties and typical __ into nightmarish terrors which run
rampant in Gothic Writing. It is why Gothic writing had, and stil has a foothold in the realm of
literature, the texts within the genre speak to the fears that incessantly itch the brain. One of these
fears would be loneliness (reword). Unwelcome solitude has the ability to drive a sane man to
insanity and a mad man to decrepitude. It is what first borne the ill will within the monster, for I
was benevolent; my soul glowed with loveand humanity: but am I not alone, miserably alone?

WORLDCOM S ACCOUNTING SCANDAL
WorldCom, established in 1983, whose CEO was Bernard Ebbers, was the second largest long
distance phone company in the US after AT T. It could be seen as a pride of America until it got
into one of the biggest accounting scandals in the American history which finally led to its
bankruptcy in 2002. On July 21st, 2012, WorldCom filed for bankruptcy, which was worth 103.9

There would be no effect on current net income as increasing in Equipment means increasing in
depreciation expense. Instead of being spent in the current year only, the cost is spread over many
years. At the moment, you may have the general image of the tactics that WorldCom used to cook
their books.
WorldCom announced $3.8 billion in improperly booked expenses for 2001 and 2002, and an
additional $3.3 billion in accounting errors. Moreover, WorldCom officially filed for bankruptcy
when found an accounting fraud with the amount up to $11 billion. So how did it happen? As
having mentioned, WorldCom s CEO Bernard Ebbers was convicted of being guilty for the stock
and accounting fraud, so it was obvious that the fraud occur from the management level of the
company. WorldCom s major operating expense was called line costs, which means cost paid to
lease other telephone operators network, phone lines and so on. In short, just remember that line
costs are its main operational expense. In 2000, WorldCom was actually not doing a good business,
and they somehow tried to cover the current reality by performing some magic with their
accounting stuff, and here is the thing: WorldCom was managing to cover the truth behind its
business, so according to his indictment, Mr. Scott Sullivan former CFO tried to move around the

Why Is Hannibal Lecter Considered A Villain
In every great novel or film there is an antagonist, and in some cases what people would consider
a villain. Every villain has different motives for what they do and different character traits. The
one thing in common with most villains is being an opposing force to a hero. In many cases, the
best villains are the most complex. One example of a complex villain from both a series of films
and novels is the characterHannibal Lecter. In the books you can see that Hannibal Lecter is a
villain with many positive traits that are perceived negative because of the way he uses them.
Some people may even say that towards the end of the series, Hannibal is more of an anti hero than
villain. Hannibal Lecter is the main character of the novels by Thomas... Show more content on

Hannibal is an extremely intelligent character. It s mentioned in the books and throughout the
films/TV series that Hannibal could go through tests that show intelligence scores with no
struggle at all and scored perfectly. Hannibal uses his intelligence to get himself out of situations
where he would be arrested, and uses his intelligence to manipulate people. In The Red Dragon,
the author states this, Lecter is so lucid, so perceptive; he s trained in psychiatry... and he s a
mass murderer. Despite being to intelligent and perceptive, having degrees in thing he is a mass
murderer. Hannibal is a cannibalistic serial killer, and how he manages it is because of his
intelligence. Hannibal s level of intelligence makes him interesting, but makes his own character
disinterested in others. Hannibal has used his intelligence to escape from prison, manipulate
people in authority, and lead a life of cannibalism behind closed doors for years with no one
noticing. He managed to live his life as a psychiatrist while secretly killing people and feeding
them to his associates for a good amount of time before being apprehended by Will Graham.
Hannibal is capable of reading people very easily, pin pointing their weaknesses and anything
important to know about them within one short glance. Overall, Hannibal is one of the most
intelligent villain characters there

  • 2. Significant Differences Between The Articles Of... Introduction There were significant differences between the governance system under the articles of confederation and the new constitution. The weaknesses of the later caused bad experiences and the clamor for a new constitution. For instance, under the articles of confederation, congress had no power over interstate or foreign commerce (Constitution Society, n.d). States made their decisions that were not always in the best interest of the whole nation. In addition, all federal laws were enforced by the states because congress did not have the capacity to implement them. The outcome is that some laws were ignored or misinterpreted (Ablavsky, 2014). This paper compares and contrasts the form of governance under the Articles of Confederation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, all federal laws were enforced by state courts because Congress had no way of enforcing them. Therefore, states could just ignore them without fear of retribution (Ablavsky, 2014). Furthermore, the constitution could only be amended with the approval of all countries, which made it possible for some states to block legislation. Also, only state governments could act directly on the people. The states were sovereign, and there was no independent executive. Lack of a presidential figure meant that the U.S had no person to conduct foreign affairs. At one point, Britain complained that there was no one to contact so as to initiate diplomacy (Clark, 2013). The emergence of the Shay rebellion also demonstrated the weakness of the articles of the confederation because it was attributed to the lack of a national army to respond to both internal and external aggression. The national government was not allowed to raise an army and had no resources to finance a state militia. Therefore, the rebellion demonstrated the need for a strong central government. These weaknesses made it necessary for the U.S. to change its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Time spent on homework does not correlate to better test scores. Some students can spend twice as much time as others and still not do as well. Grades do not necessarily improve with more hours of homework. In conclusion, homework for high school students is not necessary. Time is better spent getting exercise, working off stress and interacting with others. Choose one of the following topics to address in your paper. • 5. Analysis Of Helft Mir, Ihr Schwestern Analysis of Helft mir, ihr Schwestern Helft mir, ihr Schwestern is song number five from Robert Schumann s song cycle Frauenliebe und leben. The song cycle was set to the text of a poem cycle of the same name by Adelbert von Chamisso. Each poem in the cycle provides a glimpse into the story of a woman falling in love with a man, getting engaged and married to him, getting pregnant and having a child, becoming a widow and finally sharing her life story with her granddaughter. At the time that Schumann wrote this song cycle, he was going through a legal battle with his future wife s father over the right to marry her. This poem cycle contains themes of unending love, devotion, and longing that Schumann could personally relate to with his feelings for Clara Wieck, who would soon become Clara Schumann. In this essay, I will demonstrate how Frauenliebe und leben is directly reflective of Robert Schumanns own life experiences. In so doing, I will be analyzing the ways in which Schumann set the music in a fashion that emphasized the structure and emotional content of the poetry. Robert Schumann used a variety of musical elements to support the text of Helft mir, ihr Schwestern in both structurally and emotionally impactful ways. Each stanza of the poem has six lines, where the third and sixth lines rhyme. With the setting of music to the poetry, three lines of text constitute a phrase, and each stanza, in turn, has two phrases. This ultimately aligns the rhyme and phrase ... • 6. Core Skills Self Reflective Essay Core Skills Self reflective Essay In this essay I will go through the most important skills that I acquired in the last few years in relation to the ones needed in the industry. In addition, I will also look at my weaknesses and what I can do to overcome them. Since I started my studies and up to this date, I have learned a lot about what is required to work in the Aviation industry. There is a wide range of skills required, although most of them apply to roles one can take on in the specific industry. In other words, some skills are more role specific. Reflecting on my skills, I believe I have excellent social, communication and language skills. These skills are essential in any customer facing or team work oriented job. As explained by Morgeson, F. P. et al. in Selecting individuals in team settings: The importance of social skills, personality characteristics, and teamwork knowledge. (2005): Social skills are particularly important in team settings because working in teams increases the interdependence among workers, typically producing greater conflict, workload sharing, and coordination demands than work that is performed independently... I have always been a people person and my communication with people is very good. It gives me great pleasure to make other people laugh and cater for their needs. I have not watched every season, but I have watched a plenty. Many people do watch the show for entertainment or so they believe, but studies have shown that it perpetrates the way that people think about loveand life. • 12. A Fair And Open Electoral System For decades, Canadians have been defending their right to have a fair and open electoral system. Since its creation in 1867, Canada has been proud to call itself a true democratic country, but today there would be many people who disagree with this statement. The Canadian electoral system, which uses First Past The Post (FPTP), has come under scrutiny for not being as fair as it claims to be. Over the past couple of decades, many countries have switched their system to Proportional Representation(PR) or some form of it. Based on successful results in other nations, Canada s current FPTP system should change to Mixed Member Proportional (MMP), which is a form of Proportional Representation, as it will allow for more fair elections. The intent of this paper is to outline how an electoral reform from First Past the Post to Proportional Representation or Mixed Member Proportional, will lead to more confidence in the government, more accurate seat vote percentage, and better overall representation of the population. The first past the post system runs on the idea that whichever party has the most votes wins. In Canada, the government has split geographical regions into constituencies which are called ridings. Each riding has a representative from each party that has chosen to have an individual represent them. When the election date comes, voters will go to the polling station and cast their vote for whichever individual they want to represent them. Whichever representative that ... • 13. Male Gender Roles And Women In society today, boys and girls are taught by those around them that there are but two ways only to live a life the manly way and the feminine way and that to stray from one s designated role in the world is unacceptable. Men in particular suffer from the confinement of gender roles and are exposed pitilessly to society s punishing repercussions if one chooses to defy his preordained position. I myself have felt the pungent sting of the male genderrole in my own life, having grown up alongside a twin brother who was about as manly as a boycan be. Society has set a precedent of aggression, barbarity, and dominance for men to follow to be perceived as normal , effecting youth negatively and damaging one s self image. Men are influenced strongly everyday by the world around them to put aside traditionally feminine tendencies and behave like a man beginning, first and foremost, in the home. On April 20th, 1999, two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, walked into their high school and opened fire killing twelve fellow students, one teacher, and then finally themselves (Lamb). The nation stood still. At that time, it was considered the deadliest school shooting in US history. After the mourning and confusion opened way to questions, the students were closely examined and people tried to make sense of why these two had planned for over a year to exterminate so many innocent students and teachers. The Konformist, an anarchist website and blog, released statements by Bill White of the Utopian Anarchist Party in response to the Columbine shootings. He stated There is no ballot for young people, there is only the bullet. So it can be of no surprise today that students have struck back with bullets and not through ineffective non violent civil disobedience ( Konformist ). White s salute to the two young men and their insurrection against the indoctrination machine ( Konformist ), is in line with the notion that anarchism can be found in any rebellion against the norm. Winnie, who lives her life to maintain a stable environment for her mentally challenged brother, also manifests anarchy in a very different way. She revolts against her character and in some ways against the role of the Victorian woman. Winnie momentarily breaks character when she kills the man she is serving in return for stability. She becomes the novel s focused anarchist. The only anarchist to correctly carry out such an extreme act to avenge her brother. Literary reviewers such as Colas, suggests that Winnie failed her anarchist title when she took her own life. The Medieval Islamic Attitude Towards Christianity The medieval Islamic attitude towards Christianity varied quite considerably; often Christians would be considered as either People of the Book , or as heretics. There was a common belief among Muslims that, while Muslims tolerated Christians and accepted them, Christians had a tendency to pre condemn Muslims. On the other hand, although Christians did undeniably attempt to convert Muhammad, and many other Muslims, to Christianity, as well as refer to them repeatedly as pagans within their literature, it is almost understandable; within a century of the death of Muhammad in 632, Islamhad spread across much of the known world, a dilemma that was unfathomable, theologically incomprehensible and simply terrifying for most Christians. Some Christian doctrines, for example the thirteenth century Franciscan friars, strongly identifies Islam with the coming of the anti Christ, and many medieval Christian writers displayed resentment towards Islam through attacking the basis of the religion in an attempt to undermine its validity. Ballistic Missiles have had a long history dating back to 1939 and the beginning of the V Weapons program, and have been around in one way or another for over 70 years, indeed the advent of modern missile technology has changed the face of modern warfare and politics, and coupled with the advent of the two stage hydrogen bomb, they have now brought humanity the closest to another World War. Ballistic missile development, proliferation, and usage have had one of the largest and most profound impacts on modern warfare and international politics. On the cold and misty morning of October 3rd, 1942 Wernher Von Braun and his team at the remote baltic island of Peenemunde stood around a launch console from their safety bunker looking upon the apex of their years of engineering. For years the team at Peenemunde, under the direct orders of the FГјhrer himself labored building the most technologically advanced weapon system ever devised, in an operation rivaling the scale of the Manhattan project. Some in their country were concerned that both these leaders were too far influenced by their time in the west. In order to disaffirm these concerns, Gandhi dressed like a common Indian civilian. In this way, he was displaying his love for India over his love for England. Suu kyi acted similarly. Suu Kyi was the daughter of the former leader of the country. She could have dressed in all the opulence and affluence of royalty. Rather, in the film she dressed simply, and elegantly. This dress choice reflected her graceful character. This costuming decision gave us insight into Ang Suu s character. As Michelle Yeoh (the actress who played Suu Kyi) told Pagesix, a branch of the NYTimes, the silk and cotton costumes are all Burmese. (Pagesix.com Staff) Additionally, the movie pictured Suu Kyi in key scenes with flowers in her hair. These flowers made Kyi look angelic.. Personal Media Manifesto Essay Personal Media Manifesto Media usage can be a positive thing, it benefits many businesses as a way to promote their brand and items, as well as creates networks for young entrepreneurs. Media usage however, also has it down falls, from cyber bullying to misrepresenting news to people as well as portraying a false image of what one should look like. Media is a blank canvas for young minds to express themselves, and it is advancing so fast that it is being integrated in our everyday lives. Which ever way you look at it, media can be interpreted in many different ways, as the consumers are all different and have all had many different experiences. I personally try not to let the media surrounding my life affect how I think, it is just hard, because even though I am aware of it I still tend to let it get to me because it is in almost every aspect of my life. I personally do not use media as much as society tends to interpret about my generation and peers. I limit myself and have control over how much time I spend on my social accounts. I have one Instagram account and a snapchat account. Instagram was originally made to allow users to post pictures and it is now used for news, pictures, videos, direct messages and much more. In Susie King Taylor s Memoir, we are submerged into a vivid retelling of an African American woman s experience during her time serving as a nurse and laundress for African American infantries during the Civil War. Taylor describes in great detail what life was like for the African American soldiers whom she would care for during their battles against the rebels of the confederacy. Taylor also shares what her own life was like prior to, during, and after her time as an infantry worker. Taylor s personal story parallels the lives of many African Americans during the civil war era, and the array of social challenges African Americans were forced to endure day in and day out. As we look into this great recollection of history, it is important to understand the significant influence education had over Taylor. During Taylor s lifetime, education granted her the ability to survive during her time working for the military, educate those around that were around her, and formulate her own life experiences into literature. Education is a very powerful thing, it is a tool that allows us to challenge ourselves intellectually and achieve great amounts of success. Education also serves as a crucial tool for survival. Being educated allowed Taylor to survive early on in her life despite being born into slavery. Taylor s education would eventually aid her in escaping the racist environment she was exposed to in Savanna Georgia. Taylor s academic studies began after her grandmother s ... • 22. My Group Presentation Was Over Myasthenia Gravis My group presentation was over myasthenia gravis. Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular auto immune disease that is characterized by fatigable weakness in the skeletal muscles. This occurs at the neuromuscular junction, in which acetylcholine that is being released by the pre synaptic neuron attaches to receptors at the post synaptic neuron in order to generate a muscle contraction. Basically the body produces antibodies that block, alter, or destroy these receptors thus halting motor neurons from signaling the muscles to contract. It is currently unknown why the body makes these antibodies. There are a multitude of ways of treating MG these include anticholinesterase, steroid, and immunosuppressant medicines. In my paper, I will focus on the most long term solution of thymectomy by first giving an overview of characteristics of the surgery, then contrasting open thymectomy (trans sternal and trans cervical) and video assisted thoracic surgery (VATS), and finally focusing on the overall effectiveness of the surgery. First we must define the term thymectomy, why it is needed, who should receive it, and the goals of the surgery. A thymectomy in layman s terms is the surgical removal of the thymusgland. The thymus plays a major role in immune defense for the human body. As already stated MG is an autoimmune disease in which the body makes antibodies that disrupts the function of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Procedural law decides how a case will be tried and if all procedures were followed. Substantive law defines how the facts in the case will be handled, as well as how the crime is to be charged. It deals with the substance of the case. Every charge is made up of elements. Elements are the specific acts needed to complete a crime. Substantive law requires that the prosecutor or DPP prove every element of a crime in order for someone to be convicted of that crime. A paradox epitomized in the phrasing of the philosopher Marc Richir as: an inner statue, infinitely labile and moving, ephemeral and changing in its manifestations. Significantly, I will not approach aging as a state (documented by the photographic image) but as a process of growth (that is, of subject construction, and of shaping, adapting subjectivity to new parameters). In this dynamics of change and becoming rather than a destructive agent, time is conceived of as a formative category and a source of creativity. The treatment system outlined uses passive systems that require relatively little maintainence and have low running costs in order to be used as a long term solution to the pollutionbeing produced. Extending the Mine Adit Initially, the hillside needs to be excavated along the mine adit. An area of approximately ***** m along the mine adit needs to be removed. However, the physiological responses of these two species to salinity, desiccation and ultraviolet radiation (UV), which still remain unknown, would be studied during the research stay project in Germany. This research goal perfectly suits the expertise of the Applied Ecology and Phycology research group at the University of Rostock. During the research stay we plan to conduct several salinity experiments on Spanish specimens of both red seaweeds for the measurement of photosynthetic responses and the quantitative and qualitative determination of organic osmolytes and sunscreen compounds (MAAs). These methods might afterwards be implemented in my home laboratory to keep on researching in this field to develop future studies and collaborations. The People s Insurance Company Of Canada Name : Dolphine Bisase Id : 213349311 Assignment: Midterm Assignment, Management 3990 While the intention was that the People s Insurance Company of Canada (PICC) would have an organic organizational structure, this intention was at least partially offset by the close integration of the Insurance company with the parent People s Bank. The result was an entity in which the superficially organic, generally non hierarchical Insurance organization has been overridden by the highly hierarchical and mechanistic bank organization. The PICC s actual structure has both mechanistic and organic aspects. With regard to work specialization, it is generally narrow and mechanistic with the VP for HR, Mary Thorne, fighting an ongoing battle with the Bank on the grounds that PICC needed staff with specialized skills in the insurance industry. With respect to chain of command, while the structure of PICC was intended to be open, non hierarchical and organic, it is clear that it is generally mechanistic in its most important aspects. For example, while there may be an open office environment in general, the senior team members have private offices. Similarly, while the the emphasis of PICC is towards self managing teams, many approvals such as new purchases had to be signed off by multiple layers of the bank s management. Thus, the chain of command is very rigid in terms of its senior decision makers. In terms of centralization of decision making, it appears that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Corruption Of Cairns Police Few doubted the endemic corruption of Cairns police in the early years of the 20th century, with the local cops so notoriously crooked even newspapers in far off Brisbane reported on their transgressions. When solicitor Percy Le Vaux represented property owner Peter Lumberg in an action against a watch house constable for filching his watch during Lumberg s overnight incarceration, the Brisbane Truth saw light at the end of the tunnel, believing this spark would ignite the fire that brought the entire criminal edifice tumbling down. So it has come, at last, announced the paper. However, a magistrate dismissed the case, and nothing changed. Undeterred, Truth continued to publish veiled allegations that the police took bribes from criminal overlords whose Sachs St enterprises included illegal gambling, sly grog shops, opium dens and whore houses. This involves assigning students within the classroom to small groups based on ability with each group working on their own material according to their ability level. Within class grouping appears to be a useful means to facilitate student learning (Lou, 451). The positive effects are slightly greater for low achieving students than for average or high achievers (Hollifield). A child may have lower abilities in one subject, but be more proficient in another; the child should be placed accordingly. For example, an elementary child may be placed in a low ability group for reading and a high ability group for mathematics, but for social studies, spelling, and science be with the entire class. This enables the child to get needed help in the weaker area and extra stimulation in the stronger area while allowing the child to interact with all of his peers in other subject areas. Many elementary schools use within class grouping and it has been effective. W. R. Borg, educational researcher and author, examined the consequences of grouping systems by comparing two adjacent school systems, one using homogeneous (children of the same ability) groups, the other using heterogeneous (children of varying ability) grouping. It has the obvious nightmarish terrors represented in the monster, terrifying in both sight and murderous actions. There however exists a subliminal context of horror within the narrative. The characters within the narrative reveal the moral shortcomings of humanity, and when stripped to its base constructs, amount to little more than what the monster becomes. It shows the psychological frailty of man, and when unhinged the dangers it is capable of. The civilized mindcan refer to both the individual and society, or humanity as a whole.
