We Need Electronic Surveillance Essay
Our society would not survive in the 21st century without the help of electronic surveillance.
Safety is one of the main purposes of electronic surveillance. Safety is the state of being secure and
free from danger of any sort. Today, many would rather give up their privacy for safety
(Smithsimon). In fact, surveillancegadgets such as cameras, radio tracking chips and house alarms
are used in many places to ensure safety. For instance, a parent can easily place a hidden camera
in a stuffed animal in order to see how the babysitter handles his or her child (Public Places Have
Eyes). Cameras are also used to ensure safety on school premises. According to the GCC College
Safety website, the college has an extensive system of surveillance... Show more content on

Some say that the key to success on preventing terrorism, or any crime for that matter, is the use
of massive surveillance enforcement (Someone s Watching). For instance, airlines have used
the Computer Assisted Pre Screening System (CAPS) to spot any dangerous passengers that
have checked into the airline. Additionally, metal detectors are heavily used in airlines to check
for any weapons that a terrorist might use. Video cameras that capture faces and license plates
found all throughout the airport are now equipped with a software that allows images to be
recognized and matched with several databases (Public Places Have Eyes). Cameras in general
are present in every corner of the airport to monitor all irregular activities. Some also believe that
having a floating eye in the sky could prove to be a major deterrent in the war on terror when
talking about aerial surveillance (Surveillance Tech). Moreover, these surveillance tools are not
only used in airlines to prevent crime. These surveillance gadgets can also be used to prevent
other crimes such as robberies, trespassing, assaults, and shopliftings everywhere. In fact, with
the help of aerial cameras, the Tampa Florida Police Aviation Unit was able to perform 500
arrests in the year of 2003 (Surveillance Tech). As for metal detectors, they are found at the
entrances of almost every store we go to as well as school premises that push for a weapon free

Questions On Fixed Income Securities
To properly analyze fixed income securities, we established six major factors to consider. First is the
security s depth of the market. Have there been significant changes in the market since the financial
crisis? The second factor is the main players in the market. This includes issuers and buyers of the
financial instrument along with any other servicing institutions. The third reason, the purpose of
the investment. Fourth is the current condition of the financial instrument s secondary market.
How active is it? Are there transaction costs? How are the instruments priced? The fifth factor is the
risks in the investments. Last but not least is the sixth reason which is the financial instrument s
valuation. How should intrinsic value be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
GICs are not traded and nontransferable without the explicit written consent of the issuer. There are
two basic types of GICs issued. The first is participating GICs which involve investors to receive a
variable rate of return. Thus they are literally participating in the risks and rewards resulting from
the fluctuations in the interest rate. When interest rates are expected to rise in the future,
participating GICs become attractive to benefit from the expected rise in the interest rate. Different
from participating , nonparticipating GICs offer a fixed rate of return. This makes nonparticipating
GICs more attractive when market interest rates are high to lock in the high fixed rate of return for
the life of the investment contract. The change in the market for guaranteed investment contracts
since the financial crisis continues to be mixed. GICs have become as popular as other investments
like stocks and bonds. With the rising of interest rates and decreasing concerns about the credit
merit of the insurance companies issuing the contracts, traditional GICs have had a steady growth
within the last decade. The total amount of new GIC business done in 1982 was about $8 billion.
Today, the annual figure is somewhere between $35 and $40 billion Guaranteed Investment
Contracts are marketed by insurance companies, which are considered nonbank financial
institutions. They are usually Collective Investment

ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF ORGANIZATIONAL
CULTURE
1. INTRODUCTION
One of the significant elements while discussing about organization development is to discuss its
own existing culture as the culture itself is part of organization behavior that gives significant role
in shaping organizational sustainability.
Above all there is a need to recognize the right culture for any organization to achieve excellence.
Peters and Waterman (1982) clearly described organizational cultureas the human side of an
organization with managers key role being to shape culture by making meaning for employees out
of the confusing place that some organization can be. It is no doubt one of the absolute function of

While preparing the planned change, an organization must be able to identify its own culture.
According to Md Zabid Abdul Rashid, Sambasivan and Azmawani Abdul Rahman (2003)
organizational culture is associated with attitudes towards organizational change. Different types of
organizational culture have different level of acceptance on attitude towards organizational change.
Organizational culture gives impacts on organizational change process. While referring to the
transformational type of change, there is no doubt that the transformation process, which regarded
as the most complex and comprehensive type of change process requires radical shift that covers
change in culture, behaviour and mindset of all the components within the organization.
Thus it is clearly understood here that complete understanding of organizational culture will lead to
and rightful approaches to tackle any organizational development and change process.
Organizational culture decides the way its members make decisions, the way they make
interpretation, manage and operate. In other words, organizational culture affects organization s
competitive position. Inability to manage organizational culture will give negative consequences on
organization s performance.

Electron Microscopes Lab Report
Summarise the differences between how the Light Microscope, Transmission Electron Microscope
and Scanning Electron Microscope work; Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each type
of microscope.
The three different types of microscope all work very differently. They all have limitations as to
what can and cannot be seen through them and two key factors as to why this is are magnification
and resolution. Magnification determines how closely we can look at the object, whereas resolution
presents the limits of the microscope as to what sized structures can be seen clearly and can remain
in focus, even at a very large magnification. The light microscope only has a magnification of up to
x1500, which is very small in comparison to the x250,000 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These work because the aqueous interior of a cell (cytosol) is negatively charged, so the dyes
are either repelled or attracted to it. The cytosol bonds with positively charged dyes like
methylene blue. It repels negatively charged dyes like nigrosin, which results in only the
background being stained. The samples used for light microscopes must be translucent. There are
many advantages and disadvantages for each type of microscope, depending on what sort of
image you would like to produce. The scanning electron microscope has a function that is very
different to the TEM because it is able to show the surfaces of samples, rather than just going
through them. This unique function is very useful is specific circumstances, like when looking at
antigens on the surface of a cell, but not very useful when trying to look at the organelles found
inside that cell. The transmission electron microscope is able to show smaller organelles very
clearly due to its higher magnification and better resolution. The light microscope is not able to do
this and only the simplest structures can be seen. An advantage of light microscopes is that
specimen can be living, and the samples have not been treated very much. Although it is possible to
see much smaller structures with an TEM, the treatment required in order to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Collaboration
Almost all organizations and companies know the required to break and become effective
collaborators. Collaboration doesn t happen by small throwing a switch. Instead, organizations and
companies must create a culture that accepts shared responsibility and authority for results. The
organizations which learn to collaborate are creating competitive advantage on the market which is
difficult to do it again. Collaborative Advantage is the ability to form effective and rewarding
partnerships with other organizations, for mutual benefit. Kanter found that the most productive
relationships achieve five levels of integration: Strategic integration. This involves continuous
contact between the top leaders of each organisation. Leaders should not form a partnership and

Why School By Mike Rose Analysis
Beyond the Classroom Many are quick to disregard education s role outside of the classroom.
According to Mike Rose, a good education helps us make sense of the world and find our way in
it (Rose 33). Rose emphasizes the value in the experience of education beyond the value of
education for the purpose of custom or intelligence; he explores the purposeof going to school in
terms of how he defines himself and his personal growth in the stages of his academic career. By
reflecting on his personal experiences and how those gave him the tools applicable to his daily
life, he emphasizes why education should never be overlooked. Rose s use of referencing
relatable experiences in a logical manner makes his argument persuasive to the readers and he
succeeds in making the readers reconsider why education matters to them. Mike Rose s Why
School?: Reclaiming Education for All of Us effectively persuades his audience of the
importance of education beyond the classroom, which proves true in our everyday lives because
the essential aspect of education is what we do with it and how it helps develop one s personal
growth. Rose elaborates on the significance of education by reflecting on his own perspectiveon
how that shaped his identity. His childhood gave him the opportunity to experiencethe contrast
between a positive learning environment and a negative one. This also shaped him to have an
evident positive outlook on education. It can be assumed that the right learning

Tracy Chevalier s novel Girl With a Pearl Earring explores the notion of В‘self thorough the main
character Griet and her journey from innocence to experience. Firstly, we see throughout the novel
Griet is aware she has much to learn about the world. Furthermore, under Vermeer s roof, Griet s
self exploration spans many realms; artistically, emotionally, morally and religiously, and she
emerges a more complex and mature character. Moreover, Vermeer assists Griet to expand her

It does not take long before Griet begins to feel she has two families now and they must not mix
As Griet s ties with her family begin to weaken, so too, do her moral convictions. Griet is so
blinded by her infatuation with Vermeer that she becomes his servant not on just a domestic, but
an emotional level as well. She sacrifices her morals on many occasions and does not remain true
to herself I did whatever he asked of me . We see the truth in Van Leeuwenhoek s warning that the
women in his paintings he traps them in his world, as it is only with Vermeer that Griet loses control.
When she was with Pieter she would not let him do all he wanted , but for Vermeer she pierces her
ears, parts her lips, reveals her hair and is in all sense a ruined woman.
Not only does Vermeer become the focus for Griet s emergent sexuality, he also serves to expand
her mind and perspective on life. Teaching her that there is little pure white in clouds , Griet
realises that the world is not always as it seems. Similarly, Griet s religious prejudices instilled in
her by her family and society are quelled by Vermeer who teaches her that Its not the painting that
is catholic or ProtestantВ…but the people who look at it, and what they expect to see .
Furthermore, Griet s artistic ability is fostered by Vermeer as he teaches her to grind paints and

A Hart And Ronald Dworkin s Theory Of Law
This paper will examine both H.L.A Hart and Ronald Dworkin s position in the theories of law
and will try to determine who has won the famous debate between the two. Having considered
both sides of the argument, I would have to say that Ronald Dworkin s argument was better than
H.L.A Hart s argument. In applying both Dworkin and Hart s theories of law, they come to very
different conclusions in regards to the case of Riggs v. Palmer. According to Dworkin s theory of
law, judges do not solely focus only on the rules, instead, they focus on seeking right answers.
Dworkin has many problems and disagreements with Hart s theory, one in particular is relating to
what Dworkin labels principles and policies . Dworkin defines a principle as... Show more content

Primary rules have an internal aspect to them, in which individuals have a relationship to the
rules and regard them as grounds to criticize those who violate them, making primary rules duty
imposing (MacAlister, 2017). Secondary rules on the other hand, are seen as supplementary to
the primary rules, which, instead of imposing duty upon individuals, they confer powers to them
(MacAlister, 2017). Secondary rules are split into three different types: Rules of change (allow
public/private powers to fix old rules), adjudication (remedy for inefficiency, introduces courts
and law enforcement), and recognition (confers powers on people to identify law, and unification
of rules) (MacAlister, 2017). Another important concept within Hart s theory of law is that he
thinks judges have to their discretion. Hart proposes the idea of open texture in law, which states
that at times, the law does not cover every situation that arises and that law may run out
(MacAlister, 2017). Within this open texture, the is a clear core of certainty, where application of
the law is apparent, and beyond the core, is the penumbra, the uncertainty and indeterminacy in
law in which hard cases are based upon. As law branches out of this core of rules, it becomes
more and more indeterminate. Due to this indeterminacy, Hart believes that since there is no clear
answer written in the law, judges should have the discretion in dealing with hard cases. In the case
of Riggs, since the relevant rules of

Good Pride Research Paper
There are two kinds of pride, both good and bad. Good pride represents or dignity and self respect.
Bad pride is the deadly sin of superiority that reeks of conceit and arrogance. John C. Maxwell.
This quote has a great explanation on good and bad pride. It helps the audience realize that good
prideis great. Therefore, good pride is an amazing this to possess because it can lead someone to
do terrible things, it can help one achieve their personal goals and help one preserver. Pride can
lead someone to do terrible things. It was bad enough having an invalid brother but having one
who possibly was not all there was unbearable, so I began to make plans to kill him, by
smothering him with a pillow (Hurst 172). This quote proves pride can cause a person to do
terrible things as the older brother plotting to kill his younger disabled brother. As having good
pride is better than having bad pride and it leads you to good things and have a better relationship
with people. Sadly, having bad pride can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally one day after, many weeks of practicing he stood alone for a few seconds, when he fell i

are for Doodle to learn to walk all on his own. He would like to teach his disabled brother to walk
before school starts he begins to take him to Horsehead Landing everyday so he can learn to walk.
Also, pride can inspire one to have self respect. Doodle and I went down to Horsehead Landing and
I gave him a swimming lesson or showed him how to row a boat (173). This quote proves the older
brother tries to get Doodle to gain self respect by learning how to walk, run, swim, and fight. All the
older brother wants is for his brother to be able to walk and do other things on his own. He is
looking out for Doodle but he is also pushing Doodle a little too far. Therefore, pride can help one
preserver. Oh yes you

how, when, and where to make pro environment investments that will pay off with financial returns
for long term shareholders. To do so, we create a conceptual framework that maps the influence of
regulators, public health scientists, environmental advocates, consumers, employees, and other
interested parties upon corporate financial returns. Our discussion has relevance to all parties
interested in influencing corporate actions that affect the environment.
2. An Investigation of the Perceived Financial Performance
Abstract
This paper is primarily based on Rogers diffusion of innovations theory and Auger s empirical study.
An empirical research study was conducted to investigate the perceived financial performance of
commercial printing firms for conducting business to customer (B2C) activities using Web
technology. Financial performance was measured using four financial indicators: sales, profits,
costs, and return on investment (ROI). The diffusion of innovations theory states that an innovation
brings changes to a company. Web technology is an innovation that affects company s performance.
This paper investigates the effect of Web technology on commercial printing firms financial

Johnny Tremain Character Analysis
Throughout the novel Johnny Tremain, the author, Esther Forbes, displays the universal concepts
of growing up and changing. When the story began, the protagonist, Johnny Tremain, was a
fourteen year old boy. At the end of the novel, Johnny emerges as a sixteen year old man,
unrecognizable from his younger self, due to carrying characteristics that contrast the traits of the
young boy he once was. As Johnny aged in the story, he underwent immense changes. Johnny had
changed by gaining the knowledge of how to make good choices, obtaining a better
comprehension on things in life, and learning to value certain items or deeds in life. During the
time when one is maturing, it is common that one will discover how to act wisely and behave
properly. When Johnny was growing up, he learned to think before he speaks. Formerly, Johnny
would attack someone verbally if they infuriated him. For instance, he acted out of anger and
called Merchant Lyte a gallows bird when the merchant took his cup. As Johnny matured, he
eventually rid himself of his proclivity for verbal attacking those who anger him and started to take
his words into consideration before saying them. Johnny found this method to be rewarding when
the slave of Sam Adams soaked him with dishwater and he waited before speaking. Because Johnny

The Role And Role Of The Public Sector In The UK
The public sector is owned and operated by the Government, and exists to provide non profit
services for its citizens (privacysense). The main aim of the public sector is to provide value for
money for taxpayers and other stakeholders defined as the most advantageous combination of cost,
quality and sustainability to meet customer requirements (finance ni.gov.uk). It is essential that
management of public sector organisations realise the importance of providing good quality
information, in order to facilitate effective decision making, efficient performance measurement
and provide assurances as to good value for the taxpayer (nao.org.uk). The public sector in the UK

In addition to duty to reporting, I was quiet surprised at how mandated Laws requiring reporting
and the limitations to Confidentiality differ in various states, because coupled to what Joseph
and Nellie were discussing in Feldman s video , New York lawyer are not obligated to carry out
reporting (Stein, 2004). In some cases, Professional Counselors/therapists are covered under
attorney Client privilege, if the Counselor/therapist is employed under the attorney, thus making
reporting of an abuse void. (Stein, p. 11). Furthermore on the issue of Confidentiality, I found
the video s information and the information I gathered from the State of Maryland, Board of
Professional Counselors/therapists and the ACA code of ethics websites, contradictory.
According to the discussion, on the Video, a third party can be granted access into a victim s
records, but according to both Maryland and ACA code of ethics websites, Clients recorded are
not supposed to be made known to a third party, unless the Client issues an informed consent. So I

Distributed parameter models are systems where any dependent variable can be assumed to be a
function of both time and spatial position. (Seborg, et al., 2011) Processes are usually described
using lumped parameter models, to keep it less complex, but inherently, the most important process
units are distributed parameter models.
A distributed parameter system was modelled using a constant volume cylindrical tank in which
water is heated using hot CO2. A very straightforward system that works on the same principles as a
heat exchanger. The main purpose of any heat exchanger is the transfer of heat, also known as
thermal energy, between two fluids. (Incropera, et al., 2013) Thus, the temperature inside the
cylindrical tank is dependent on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The counter flow is preferred due to the fact that it provide higher heat transfer than parallel flow.
The high heat transfer is obtained with the fact that with a counter flow pattern a high log mean
temperature difference can be obtained and the heat exchanger will have a better performance
(Anon., 2010)The parallel and counter flow concentric tube heat exchangers are shown below.
Figure 2: Concentric tube heat exchanger Figure 3: Concentric tube heat exchanger
The temperature profile describing the heat transfer between the fluids in different flow
arrangements is also given. The hot fluid transfers heat to the cold fluid. Usually the cold fluid
is transported by the inside pipe. By combining the principles of the electric heating tank with
the principles of the counter flow concentric heat exchanger we can save electricity by using the
hot gas produced during production in chemical plants. The gas that is used in this text is carbon
dioxide gas, this gas is mostly produced as an unwanted gas. A hot gas in the pipe will be passed
through the tank to cause heat transfer from the pipe to the tank. The will be no mass transfer
between the gas and the water, only energy in the form of heat will be transferred. The counter
flow of fluids will be used to promote heat transfer.

conductor was Franz Anton Krager, he conducted the Cello ConcertoNo. 1 in A Minor, Op. 33, by

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome or SARS for short, is an internationally known epidemic
that first broke out in 2002 in southern China. SARS is caused by the SARS coronavirus, or
SARS CoV which was genetically proven to have originated from Guangzhou. Guangzhou is the
origin of which caused the spread of SARS into other countries. By 2003 SARS became a global
disease severely affecting several other countries such as, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, Canada,
and Singapore. SARS causes numerous respiratory complications, some of which become fatal if

patient s health continues to deteriorate they are placed in the hospital s ICU. If further decline
of the respiratory system takes place and treatment does not succumb to the disease ARDS can
take place, which will require invasive mechanical ventilation. Death has occurred as a result
from this disease which is why the seriousness of seeking treatment early on is momentous. Due
to SARS being a newly discovered disease in 2002 2003, treatment options, possible cures, and
plans for care of this disease were unprecedented. Oxygen therapy was normally initiated in the
preliminary stages of SARS. Non Invasive Ventilation (NIV) was reported to be found
efficacious in those with respiratory failure as a result from SARS. NIV reduced the occurrence
of intubation or invasive ventilation, as well as reduced the length of hospital stays in patients
researched with SARS. Ribavirin which is a drug that is helpful in fighting certain viruses by
preventing replication of viral cells has been greatly used in the treatment of SARS. Research later
provided that the drug had no notable effect on the disease. Lopinavir, another antiviral drug was
another drug that was experimented with as a treatment of SARS and was found to reduce overall
death rate by 2.3% as well as intubations. Other drugs such as IV pulse

Hills Like White Elephants By Ernest Hemmingway
Hills Like White Elephants By Ernest Hemmingway is an interesting piece that consists entirely of
an odd conversation between two people sitting at a train station in Spain, having drinks while they
wait on their ride. The couple do not have names, just The American and The Girl who is also
called Jig a time or two by The American. Hemmingway uses these characters and their actions
along with the setting and symbolism to paint a beautiful picture of an untruthful relationship and a
secretive Operation that brings out the true feelings between an unknown couple. The point of view
of this piece is told from the third person. Almost third person limited as we never get to hear the
actual thoughts of any of the characters, making both of them rather unreliable as we never will
know for certain the true intentions either one of them has. At the beginning of the story, the
conversationbetween these two people seems very strange. Each of them are speaking but it is clear
that neither are truly listening to what the other is saying making it obvious that each has
something much bigger on their mind that they know they must address but neither are yet
comfortable with bringing up the topic. This is initially what I figured the hillssymbolized when that

Feral Cats Essay
Cats are one of the most beloved pets to humans beings. Though they provided a sense of
comfort and love, there is a dark side to these soft, adorable, felines. Cats, both domestic and
feral, poses a serious threat to native bird populations in the United States and health risk to both
people and other animals. It is important that people realize the impact that feral cats have in the
environment that they inhabit and how it not only effects other species, but us humans as well.
Feral cats have no form of human interaction and therefore are difficult and or nearly impossible
to assimilate as a regular house pet. There appears to be limited options on what can be done to

Argumentative Essay On Memorials
Memorializing events in the history of the world for any purpose has it s positives as well as the
negatives. Ranging from a memorial of a popular United States president from a loved one of a
family, memorials have generally served as a purpose of remembrance from the past of said event.
The purpose of the memorialis usually associated with a positive, uplifting feeling towards the
deceased individual or past event. While this is more or less simply defining what memorials are

ridiculous, I imagined taking a knife and cutting into the earth, opening it up, an initial violence and

College Tuition Cost Essay
A simultaneous groan can be heard across the country by every college student as a new semester

both private and public universities, the average four year college tuitioncost was $23,000

Steven Pearlstein, a researcher and writer on the Washington Post, firmly believes that this
would reduce the need to hire lecturers and adjunct (Pearlstein). Even so, Noah Smith, another
researcher, points out that, if research was in fact not needed, then less professors would be

have researchers do research. He says, In science and engineering, university professors are one
of the main forces behind the U.S. s innovative edge. They produce important basic research and

If you apply too much pressure and puncture a hole through the reproductive tract and into the
rectum it can have serious consequences and can even be fatal to the mare. There is also an
increased chance of spreading disease if the semen isn t screened properly. Some of the most
common diseases that are passed on through semen are Contagious Equine Metritis, Equine Viral
Arteritis, and Equine Infection Anemia. These viruses are transported in the semen and can
survive both chilling and freezing so any imported semen has to undergo strict screening tests

Even though there are problems and risks associated with artificial insemination in horses there

Williams also states that victim heroes are the focus of melodramas through recognition of the
character s virtue, where the victim s point of view is the main concentration of melodrama. The
protagonist s moral virtue ultimately causes immense suffering, thus causing audiences to

The Transition Between Classical And Romantic Styles
Franz Joseph Haydn was a kind, simple man whose eyes beamed with benevolence (Dies), and he
never forgot his humble origin. His string quartet known as The Lark embodies the Romantic and
Neoclassical styles of its time and is a well represented example of the Apollonian Order aesthetic.
He was an important aspect in the transition between the Classical and Romantic styles as well as
an excellent model for the music of his time.
Joseph Haydn was born March 31, 1732, in the marshy town of Rohrau, Lower Austria. Born as
one of six surviving children of Maria and Mathias Haydn, he began his education in music at a
young age and, upon maturity, began his work as a freelance musician. He quickly started to
acquire aristocratic patronage, and in 1761 gained a music director (or Kappelmeister) position at
the EsterhГЎza Palace in Austria working for Prince Nicolaus I. His composition of the six string
quartets comprising Opus 64 was completed in 1790 after nearly thirty years of experiment.
Opus 64 was one of two sets of six string quartets commissioned by and written for Johann Tost, a
violinist in Prince Nicolaus Esterhazy s orchestra. The quartets were said to be encouraged by the
Prince s housekeeper, Maria Anna von Jerlischek (or Fräulein Nanette as referred to by Haydn in
his letters to Maria Anna von Genzinger), who would later become Tost s wife. The period during
which the quartet was written occurred on the cusp of Romanticism, in the midst of the American

To make matters worse, when she arrived home a letter awaited her saying that she had been

Death Of A Leader In Walt Whitman s O Captain My Captain
Many Leaders lack the ability to move people. Mourning the death of a leader is an even bigger
task to take on. Abraham Lincoln, in this case was an exception. In the famous poem, O Captain!
My Captain! Written by, Walt Whitman in the year 1865. The poem, refers to a terrible event in
American history; the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Instead of the country
celebrating and rejoicing over the ending of the Civil War and being happy over the country
being kept whole, everyone was mourning in the loss of their leader. Aboard a ship, the poem is
about a fellow sailor grieving from the loss of his captain. The sailor in the poem is singing a
song that praises his captain for leading them safely on their voyage and leading them back
home. As the other sailors are celebrating their homecoming with everyone on shore, the sailor
notices the captain. He is dead, lying on the deck of the ship fallen cold and dead (line 8). The
sailor goes on and mournfully walks on the deck where the captain had died while the people on
shore are unaware of their fallen leader. Rise up and hear the bells; (Line 9). The sailor says
wishing his captain could witness the excitement. Everyone adored the captain and admitted that
his death feels like a terrible dream, It is some dream that on the deck, you ve fallen cold and dead.
(Lines 15 16). Then in the final stanza of the poem, the sailor puts together his feelings of mourning
and pride. (Whitman)

what the American individual is expected to be. In this song, the American individual is

Given this, it is explained that the expectations listed above are the problems with society.
Society s expectations of perfection and hiding of emotions give unrealistic ideas to women
about the individuals they should be. Instead of trying to fit the expectations of society,
everyone should reveal their flaws and be proud of themselves. When everyone tries to be
perfect, they are only disappointed because of how unrealistic and impossible it is to achieve
their goal of perfection. These expectations and disappointments are the problems with society,
because perfection is an unachievable objective. These lines explain that the American individual
should not be one to follow societal expectations, even though it is falsely believed that
perfection makes the ideal individual. An additional line that describes the American individual
is, South beach, sugar free / Vogue says / Thinner is better (BeyoncГ© 19 21). Considering this,
BeyoncГ© is explaining that society believes everyone should be thin which can be achieved by
being sugar free. Only those who are sugar free will be skinny and therefore will be satisfying
society. Society expects all women to be thin and slender, and not following these expectations not
acceptable. These lines, once again, explain that the American individual is expected to be thin, or

The Author To Her Book Ap Prompt
Anne Bradstreet in her poem, The Author to Her Book , elaborates on the true struggles of the
publishing process that writers may experience in their writing careers. Through a unique
perspective, Bradstreet introduces the narrator of the poem as a writer with a deformed piece of
work, which is compared to a motherwith a child with deformities; both of which are exposed to
the public eye. Though the use of an extended metaphor, Bradstreet in The Author to Her Book

Additionally, she reveals through this comparison, that her blushing was not small, meaning that
she is thoroughly embarrassed by her work. Her work is a product of her. However, given the
circumstances of the public viewing it without the prior consent of her, she may not be too proud
of her work. This can compare to a mother that gave birth to a child with defects, the mother may
be very hesitant or even embarrassed to show the world her product. Since she focuses on the
many mistakes and errors contained in the novel, it reveals that she is, again, very self critical.
However, a shift occurs in the middle of the poem, which reveals the narrator s more loving and
affectionate side. Through the use of an extended metaphor, the goal of showing both of her
feelings to her product is successful. This affectionate side to the narrator becomes apparent
when she says the following: yet being [the narrator s] own, at length affection would thy
blemishes amend, if so [the narrator] could. She accepts this child as her own. Like a mother
with a child with birth defects, the mother still loves and cares for her child. This is much like
how the speaker, even though embarrassed and very self critical of her work, still cares for her
work. The work is a product of her. Such a product, like a book or even a child, could mean so
much to her, even though it may not be completely perfect. The

Charlotte s Back by Sydney Kennedy, all include this theme of horror. Horror is this intense feeling
of fear, shock, or disgust and many authors choice this feel for their stories because there is such
a demand for it. We all have this built up fear and horror and movies and books include horror
give us an away to release it. Many authors, like these three, choice to place horror into flash fiction

Kennedy also borrowed the train crash which she transformed to a car crash, which both
resulted in death. In the text it states, It was he who had been in the newspaper office when
intelligence of the railroad disaster was received, with Brently Mallard s name leading the list
killed. This quote shows how Kennedy effectively took the train accident, and turned into a fatal
car crash, which in this day in age is more relevant. She cohesively included both borrowed
elements quite effectively. In Charlotte s Back it indicates a sense of fear and horror in the
reader. For example, the text states, She was covered in blood, her eyes were red, and her pink
dress was cut and mangled. This quote explains how Kennedy included graphic elements and
descriptions to frighten the reader. Gothic elements and were also included into the the work.
The gloomy ad ominous setting of the insane asylum gave off a mysterious and gothic feel.
Kennedy also included supernatural elements to hit on the the horror genre. Charlotte reappeared
as a ghost and came back to haunt and kill her father, which fits right into the gothic feel of the
story. These gothic elements, such as the ghost, are also some of Kennedy s childhood fears. She
once stated in an interview that she always believed as a child that her baby dolls moved and were
real. It even got to the point where she had to throw them away. She used this childhood fear

Robert Mondavi and the Wine Industry Case Analysis
Executive Decision Making Strategic Analysis
Robert Mondavi and The Wine Industry,
HBS 9 302 102 (Case 1)
Post Class Analysis
Individual Assignment
Student: ГЃlvaro Toro
I. Executive Summary
On May 2001, Michael Mondavi took over the position of chairman of Robert Mondavi
Company, as well Greg Evans assumed as CEO. They company was founded in 1966, and has
became one of the world s finest and most innovative winemakers, currently having sales for 480
millions, and firm s market value about $ 600 million.
The executives estate that, as the competitors spent considerable amount of money pursuing
aggressive acquisition strategies, they are doing well on the track of organic growth of its premier
brands, as they note ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case of retailers they are on premise (restaurants, hotels, pubs, etc.) and off premise
(supermarkets, wholesale price clubs, mass merchandisers and liquor stores). This three tier model
was mandatory in USA to avoid organized crime, and is not longer mandatory in several estates, as
well as many countries, but this structure tends to exist.
Wholesaler distributors. The current trend is the concentration in both wholesalers and retailers. In
the case of USA, today the top 5 distributors control 33% of the market, and the top 10 control
45%. This high concentration supposes higher buyer power, as they buy larger volumes. In this
scenario some producers have their own distributors, like Gallo. In other markets, this is also a
trend, as Europe, where large firms, particularly the leading breweries, dominate the alcoholic
beverage distribution. In this sense, the buyer power is high.
Retailers. The current trend, further than the wine market, is clearly the concentration of the off
premises retailers. The well known Wal Mart and others became very large retailers, concentrating
as well high bargaining leverage. For example, Costco is currently the largest wine retailer in the
U.S.
The same concentration is happening in the on premises buyers, where many large hotels and
restaurants chains are purchasing wine centrally rather at locally, increasing their buyer power.
Thus, the retailers buying force is also

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Psychological Disorders
A psychological disorder is defined as a behavior that exhibits a collection of symptoms that
cause stress and/or disability to an individual. These disorders can range from alcohol and
substance abuse to Alzhiemer s and schizophrenia. Studies show that about 46% of the United
States population suffers from a mental disorder some time in their life. There are many forms
of treatment available, as the effects of these disorders cause distress and suffering not only to
the individual, but for those around them too. The two main forms of treatment are biomedical
therapy and verbal therapy. Biomedical therapies are medicinal drugs administered to a patient
by a psychiatrist. Verbal therapies are talk sessions that a patient has with a psychologist. The
prescription of drugs is the most common type of treatment in resolving psychological disorders.
Based on a study done by the National Center for Health Statistics, the usage of psychiatric drugs,
more specifically antidepressant drugs, went up 400% in the span of just twenty years. This may
be because medications are seen as an answer to people s prayers. People think that they re fast
and they ll cure anything and everything, making people feel normal again. Therapy could be quite
expensive when compared to medication, making individuals choose drugs over therapy. Another
reason for more people wanting to use medication could be that there are many commercials on TV
and on the radio advocating for medicinal drug usage, but

Katherine Anne Porter s The Jilting of Granny Weatherall...
Stream of Consciousness in Katherine Anne Porter s The Jilting of Granny Weatherall
In The Jilting of Granny Weatherall, Katherine Anne Porter applies the rhetorical technique stream
of consciousness to guide her audience through the last sixty years of a leathery, bitter woman jilted
in life, and finally in death. The seemingly aimless and casual technique, similar to a human s
thought pattern, effectively develops the exposition, conflict, and denouement.
By using the stream of consciousness technique, Porter establishes Granny Weatherall s background.
The occasional glimpse into the main character s past reveals the demanding responsibilities of a
young widow. She reflects on how digging post holes, riding country roads in the ... Show more

This technique establishes the dramatic conflict as Granny Weatherall recalls how her beau,
George, jilted her at the altar. Although it is unclear to the reader what leads up to the wedding
day abandonment, she was clearly haunted for sixty years as she had prayed against
remembering him and against losing her soul in the deep pit of hell. She becomes a bitter,
controlling woman striving for a neat and orderly life by tucking in the edges as if it were a sheet.
She spends her life avoiding and despising surprises, after the stunning surprise at the altar.
By applying the stream of consciousness technique to demonstrate the effects of Granny Weatherall
s lifetime struggle with the jilting and its effects, Porter establishes the main character s need to
control circumstances, even death. The darkness of death, like the familiar dark, smoky hell of
being jilted, surprises Granny Weatherall. After sixty years of anger and bitterness, the jilting of
death blocks out any other sorrow because the grief of dying erases them from her memory.
Determined to control her death as she had her life, she blows out the light.
In conclusion, Porter s flowing inner monologue provides an opportunity for many interpretations.
Did the jilting cause her to be an angry, bitter woman

Spanish Official Language
Spanish is the official language spoken in 20 different countries and it is one of the most spoken
languages around the world based on the number of people who are native speakers. Spanish is
one of the official languages of the United Nations and it is spoken as first and second language for
more than 400 million people. Many people may think that Spanish is just one language, therefore,
it should be understood the same way by all Spanish speakers around the world; which is true up
to a point. The truth is, there are thousands of ways in which a person can write or say something
in Spanish and each country has developed a unique way of using a specific word. Countries that
speak Spanish have a wide combination of words and slang words that make them unique in
themselves, giving Spanish languagea different identity according to the place people live in.
There might be various reasons of why a same word may mean different things depending on the
county in which it is used. When Spanish settlers came to the New World, each country already had
a native or indigenous base of language. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People would say no tengo un chavo in these countries as an expression that they don t have
money. Then again, the same word chavo means a boy in Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua. The
variations of same Spanish words makes it difficult for people from different Spanish speaking
countries to comprehend each other with no misunderstandings, and it is even more difficult for
translators and interpretations to translate from one language to another when the interpreter is
from a different country than the person needing an interpreter. The interpreter needs to know the
variations of all the words used by the person they are interpreting by using localization through
knowledge of regional terminology. Localization is used to adapt a message for a specific country or

Manchester s United Of The Football League
Prior to the arrival of Matt Busby, Manchester s United s chapter in the history of English
football begins with the founding of Newton Heath LYR [Lancashire Yorkshire Railway]
Football Club in 1878 (Manchester United F.C., В§1878 1909). Football was the most popular
sport in the nearby counties of Lancashire and Yorkshire in the mid 1800s, and it enjoyed
popularity in Manchester as well (Harvey, 57, 67). One historian attributes part of its success to
the abundance of playing space and events sanctioned by local business owners seeking to increase
revenue (Harvey, 67). Newton Health LYR joined the Football Leaguein 1892, and was rechristened
Manchester United after an early infusion of funding. After moderate success through 1920 that
prompted the construction of and relocation to Old Trafford, the club entered a period of
stagnation and decline, characterized by relatively poor performance and plagued by financial
difficulties. This floundering was exacerbated by public perception of association football as an
undignified, inferior sport. Academic institutions, swayed by the patriotic qualities of toughness
and leadership emphasized by rugby and perceived to be absent in football, opted to field rugby
teams (Taylor, 122). Numerous scandals further tarnished association football s reputation, the most
notable of which involved Manchester United and Liverpool F.C. Players from both sides, after
arranging bets on the match outcome, ensured a win for Manchester United by

  • 2. We Need Electronic Surveillance Essay Our society would not survive in the 21st century without the help of electronic surveillance. Safety is one of the main purposes of electronic surveillance. Safety is the state of being secure and free from danger of any sort. Today, many would rather give up their privacy for safety (Smithsimon). In fact, surveillancegadgets such as cameras, radio tracking chips and house alarms are used in many places to ensure safety. For instance, a parent can easily place a hidden camera in a stuffed animal in order to see how the babysitter handles his or her child (Public Places Have Eyes). Cameras are also used to ensure safety on school premises. According to the GCC College Safety website, the college has an extensive system of surveillance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some say that the key to success on preventing terrorism, or any crime for that matter, is the use of massive surveillance enforcement (Someone s Watching). For instance, airlines have used the Computer Assisted Pre Screening System (CAPS) to spot any dangerous passengers that have checked into the airline. Additionally, metal detectors are heavily used in airlines to check for any weapons that a terrorist might use. Video cameras that capture faces and license plates found all throughout the airport are now equipped with a software that allows images to be recognized and matched with several databases (Public Places Have Eyes). Cameras in general are present in every corner of the airport to monitor all irregular activities. Some also believe that having a floating eye in the sky could prove to be a major deterrent in the war on terror when talking about aerial surveillance (Surveillance Tech). Moreover, these surveillance tools are not only used in airlines to prevent crime. These surveillance gadgets can also be used to prevent other crimes such as robberies, trespassing, assaults, and shopliftings everywhere. In fact, with the help of aerial cameras, the Tampa Florida Police Aviation Unit was able to perform 500 arrests in the year of 2003 (Surveillance Tech). As for metal detectors, they are found at the entrances of almost every store we go to as well as school premises that push for a weapon free ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Questions On Fixed Income Securities To properly analyze fixed income securities, we established six major factors to consider. First is the security s depth of the market. Have there been significant changes in the market since the financial crisis? The second factor is the main players in the market. This includes issuers and buyers of the financial instrument along with any other servicing institutions. The third reason, the purpose of the investment. Fourth is the current condition of the financial instrument s secondary market. How active is it? Are there transaction costs? How are the instruments priced? The fifth factor is the risks in the investments. Last but not least is the sixth reason which is the financial instrument s valuation. How should intrinsic value be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... GICs are not traded and nontransferable without the explicit written consent of the issuer. There are two basic types of GICs issued. The first is participating GICs which involve investors to receive a variable rate of return. Thus they are literally participating in the risks and rewards resulting from the fluctuations in the interest rate. When interest rates are expected to rise in the future, participating GICs become attractive to benefit from the expected rise in the interest rate. Different from participating , nonparticipating GICs offer a fixed rate of return. This makes nonparticipating GICs more attractive when market interest rates are high to lock in the high fixed rate of return for the life of the investment contract. The change in the market for guaranteed investment contracts since the financial crisis continues to be mixed. GICs have become as popular as other investments like stocks and bonds. With the rising of interest rates and decreasing concerns about the credit merit of the insurance companies issuing the contracts, traditional GICs have had a steady growth within the last decade. The total amount of new GIC business done in 1982 was about $8 billion. Today, the annual figure is somewhere between $35 and $40 billion Guaranteed Investment Contracts are marketed by insurance companies, which are considered nonbank financial institutions. INTRODUCTION One of the significant elements while discussing about organization development is to discuss its own existing culture as the culture itself is part of organization behavior that gives significant role in shaping organizational sustainability. Above all there is a need to recognize the right culture for any organization to achieve excellence. According to Md Zabid Abdul Rashid, Sambasivan and Azmawani Abdul Rahman (2003) organizational culture is associated with attitudes towards organizational change. While referring to the transformational type of change, there is no doubt that the transformation process, which regarded as the most complex and comprehensive type of change process requires radical shift that covers change in culture, behaviour and mindset of all the components within the organization. Thus it is clearly understood here that complete understanding of organizational culture will lead to and rightful approaches to tackle any organizational development and change process. Organizational culture decides the way its members make decisions, the way they make interpretation, manage and operate. Electron Microscopes Lab Report Summarise the differences between how the Light Microscope, Transmission Electron Microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope work; Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each type of microscope. The three different types of microscope all work very differently. They all have limitations as to what can and cannot be seen through them and two key factors as to why this is are magnification and resolution. Magnification determines how closely we can look at the object, whereas resolution presents the limits of the microscope as to what sized structures can be seen clearly and can remain in focus, even at a very large magnification. The light microscope only has a magnification of up to x1500, which is very small in comparison to the x250,000 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These work because the aqueous interior of a cell (cytosol) is negatively charged, so the dyes are either repelled or attracted to it. The cytosol bonds with positively charged dyes like methylene blue. It repels negatively charged dyes like nigrosin, which results in only the background being stained. The samples used for light microscopes must be translucent. There are many advantages and disadvantages for each type of microscope, depending on what sort of image you would like to produce. The scanning electron microscope has a function that is very different to the TEM because it is able to show the surfaces of samples, rather than just going through them. This unique function is very useful is specific circumstances, like when looking at antigens on the surface of a cell, but not very useful when trying to look at the organelles found inside that cell. The transmission electron microscope is able to show smaller organelles very clearly due to its higher magnification and better resolution. The light microscope is not able to do this and only the simplest structures can be seen. An advantage of light microscopes is that specimen can be living, and the samples have not been treated very much. Although it is possible to see much smaller structures with an TEM, the treatment required in order to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Why School By Mike Rose Analysis Beyond the Classroom Many are quick to disregard education s role outside of the classroom. According to Mike Rose, a good education helps us make sense of the world and find our way in it (Rose 33). Rose emphasizes the value in the experience of education beyond the value of education for the purpose of custom or intelligence; he explores the purposeof going to school in terms of how he defines himself and his personal growth in the stages of his academic career. By reflecting on his personal experiences and how those gave him the tools applicable to his daily life, he emphasizes why education should never be overlooked. Rose s use of referencing relatable experiences in a logical manner makes his argument persuasive to the readers and he succeeds in making the readers reconsider why education matters to them. Mike Rose s Why School?: Reclaiming Education for All of Us effectively persuades his audience of the importance of education beyond the classroom, which proves true in our everyday lives because the essential aspect of education is what we do with it and how it helps develop one s personal growth. Rose elaborates on the significance of education by reflecting on his own perspectiveon how that shaped his identity. His childhood gave him the opportunity to experiencethe contrast between a positive learning environment and a negative one. This also shaped him to have an evident positive outlook on education. • 9. A Hart And Ronald Dworkin s Theory Of Law This paper will examine both H.L.A Hart and Ronald Dworkin s position in the theories of law and will try to determine who has won the famous debate between the two. Having considered both sides of the argument, I would have to say that Ronald Dworkin s argument was better than H.L.A Hart s argument. In applying both Dworkin and Hart s theories of law, they come to very different conclusions in regards to the case of Riggs v. Palmer. According to Dworkin s theory of law, judges do not solely focus only on the rules, instead, they focus on seeking right answers. Dworkin has many problems and disagreements with Hart s theory, one in particular is relating to what Dworkin labels principles and policies . Dworkin defines a principle as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Primary rules have an internal aspect to them, in which individuals have a relationship to the rules and regard them as grounds to criticize those who violate them, making primary rules duty imposing (MacAlister, 2017). Secondary rules on the other hand, are seen as supplementary to the primary rules, which, instead of imposing duty upon individuals, they confer powers to them (MacAlister, 2017). Secondary rules are split into three different types: Rules of change (allow public/private powers to fix old rules), adjudication (remedy for inefficiency, introduces courts and law enforcement), and recognition (confers powers on people to identify law, and unification of rules) (MacAlister, 2017). Another important concept within Hart s theory of law is that he thinks judges have to their discretion. Hart proposes the idea of open texture in law, which states that at times, the law does not cover every situation that arises and that law may run out (MacAlister, 2017). Within this open texture, the is a clear core of certainty, where application of the law is apparent, and beyond the core, is the penumbra, the uncertainty and indeterminacy in law in which hard cases are based upon. As law branches out of this core of rules, it becomes more and more indeterminate. Due to this indeterminacy, Hart believes that since there is no clear answer written in the law, judges should have the discretion in dealing with hard cases. When the story began, the protagonist, Johnny Tremain, was a fourteen year old boy. At the end of the novel, Johnny emerges as a sixteen year old man, unrecognizable from his younger self, due to carrying characteristics that contrast the traits of the young boy he once was. As Johnny aged in the story, he underwent immense changes. Johnny had changed by gaining the knowledge of how to make good choices, obtaining a better comprehension on things in life, and learning to value certain items or deeds in life. During the time when one is maturing, it is common that one will discover how to act wisely and behave properly. When Johnny was growing up, he learned to think before he speaks. Formerly, Johnny would attack someone verbally if they infuriated him. For instance, he acted out of anger and called Merchant Lyte a gallows bird when the merchant took his cup. As Johnny matured, he eventually rid himself of his proclivity for verbal attacking those who anger him and started to take his words into consideration before saying them. A distributed parameter system was modelled using a constant volume cylindrical tank in which water is heated using hot CO2. A very straightforward system that works on the same principles as a heat exchanger. The main purpose of any heat exchanger is the transfer of heat, also known as thermal energy, between two fluids. • 18. Hills Like White Elephants By Ernest Hemmingway Hills Like White Elephants By Ernest Hemmingway is an interesting piece that consists entirely of an odd conversation between two people sitting at a train station in Spain, having drinks while they wait on their ride. The couple do not have names, just The American and The Girl who is also called Jig a time or two by The American. Hemmingway uses these characters and their actions along with the setting and symbolism to paint a beautiful picture of an untruthful relationship and a secretive Operation that brings out the true feelings between an unknown couple. The point of view of this piece is told from the third person. Almost third person limited as we never get to hear the actual thoughts of any of the characters, making both of them rather unreliable as we never will know for certain the true intentions either one of them has. At the beginning of the story, the conversationbetween these two people seems very strange. This three tier model was mandatory in USA to avoid organized crime, and is not longer mandatory in several estates, as well as many countries, but this structure tends to exist. Wholesaler distributors. The current trend is the concentration in both wholesalers and retailers. In the case of USA, today the top 5 distributors control 33% of the market, and the top 10 control 45%. This high concentration supposes higher buyer power, as they buy larger volumes. In this scenario some producers have their own distributors, like Gallo. In other markets, this is also a trend, as Europe, where large firms, particularly the leading breweries, dominate the alcoholic beverage distribution. In this sense, the buyer power is high. Retailers. The current trend, further than the wine market, is clearly the concentration of the off premises retailers. The well known Wal Mart and others became very large retailers, concentrating as well high bargaining leverage. These disorders can range from alcohol and substance abuse to Alzhiemer s and schizophrenia. Studies show that about 46% of the United States population suffers from a mental disorder some time in their life. There are many forms of treatment available, as the effects of these disorders cause distress and suffering not only to the individual, but for those around them too. The two main forms of treatment are biomedical therapy and verbal therapy. Biomedical therapies are medicinal drugs administered to a patient by a psychiatrist. Verbal therapies are talk sessions that a patient has with a psychologist. The prescription of drugs is the most common type of treatment in resolving psychological disorders. Based on a study done by the National Center for Health Statistics, the usage of psychiatric drugs, more specifically antidepressant drugs, went up 400% in the span of just twenty years. This may be because medications are seen as an answer to people s prayers. People think that they re fast and they ll cure anything and everything, making people feel normal again. Therapy could be quite expensive when compared to medication, making individuals choose drugs over therapy. Another reason for more people wanting to use medication could be that there are many commercials on TV and on the radio advocating for medicinal drug usage, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The seemingly aimless and casual technique, similar to a human s thought pattern, effectively develops the exposition, conflict, and denouement. By using the stream of consciousness technique, Porter establishes Granny Weatherall s background. The occasional glimpse into the main character s past reveals the demanding responsibilities of a young widow. She reflects on how digging post holes, riding country roads in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This technique establishes the dramatic conflict as Granny Weatherall recalls how her beau, George, jilted her at the altar. Although it is unclear to the reader what leads up to the wedding day abandonment, she was clearly haunted for sixty years as she had prayed against remembering him and against losing her soul in the deep pit of hell. She becomes a bitter, controlling woman striving for a neat and orderly life by tucking in the edges as if it were a sheet. She spends her life avoiding and despising surprises, after the stunning surprise at the altar. By applying the stream of consciousness technique to demonstrate the effects of Granny Weatherall s lifetime struggle with the jilting and its effects, Porter establishes the main character s need to control circumstances, even death. The darkness of death, like the familiar dark, smoky hell of being jilted, surprises Granny Weatherall. After sixty years of anger and bitterness, the jilting of death blocks out any other sorrow because the grief of dying erases them from her memory. Determined to control her death as she had her life, she blows out the light. In conclusion, Porter s flowing inner monologue provides an opportunity for many interpretations. Manchester s United Of The Football League Prior to the arrival of Matt Busby, Manchester s United s chapter in the history of English football begins with the founding of Newton Heath LYR [Lancashire Yorkshire Railway] Football Club in 1878 (Manchester United F.C., В§1878 1909). Football was the most popular sport in the nearby counties of Lancashire and Yorkshire in the mid 1800s, and it enjoyed popularity in Manchester as well (Harvey, 57, 67). One historian attributes part of its success to the abundance of playing space and events sanctioned by local business owners seeking to increase revenue (Harvey, 67). Newton Health LYR joined the Football Leaguein 1892, and was rechristened Manchester United after an early infusion of funding. After moderate success through 1920 that prompted the construction of and relocation to Old Trafford, the club entered a period of stagnation and decline, characterized by relatively poor performance and plagued by financial difficulties. This floundering was exacerbated by public perception of association football as an undignified, inferior sport. Academic institutions, swayed by the patriotic qualities of toughness and leadership emphasized by rugby and perceived to be absent in football, opted to field rugby teams (Taylor, 122). Numerous scandals further tarnished association football s reputation, the most notable of which involved Manchester United and Liverpool F.C. Players from both sides, after arranging bets on the match outcome, ensured a win for Manchester United by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
