Social Mobility In America
Social mobility is the foundation of the American Dream. Immigrants come to the United States
with hopes that the social policies and economic opportunities in this country will provide them
with a better future than they would receive back home. The main factors immigrants believe will
allow them to elevate themselves within this country are hard work and education. However
contrary to their belief, only a proper education, achieved in part through the knowledge of
resources, will allow them to elevate themselves socially and achieve things that their forefathers
could not. Inclusively there are very clear inequalities with the opportunities, the access to these
opportunities, and the foreseeable potential this country offers immigrants. For example there is a
clear uneven... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though we often boast about our country being the best; there are clear discrepancies that
demonstrate how we as a society have forgotten about the needs of the lower classes. All of these
social and political factors influence and affect the potential for success of children in different
rungs of the socioeconomic ladder. Furthermore the American Dream is the built upon the belief
that hard work will lead to prosperity in this country. However it more or less acts as a veil cloaking
the reality that not only are resources stacked against low income communities but access to the
resources and specifically those in the educational system are unequally distributed, thus
perpetuating the social stratification of the working class and specifically immigrants. In particular,

Pros And Cons Of Overfishing
Chai Lin

LA 11
20 April 2016
Fresh Fish Forever Fish have been one of mankind s greatest resource throughout history. They
have been sustenance to civilizations in the most extreme climates. But now they are being
overfished. There are pros and cons of overfishing. Some pros include more jobs, healthier food,
and it provides food for the world. Overfishing should be stopped because the fishing methods that
companies use can be very destructive to aquatic ecosystems, they can disrupt balances in the food
chain and can lead to the exploitation of non fishing zones/areas, and it can cause overpopulation of
other species. Stop overfish and regulate commercial fishing.
Critics of regulating fishing would say that overfishing creates ... Show more content on

When predatory fish are gone, the population of the fish that they used to eat will grow. Then the
fish themselves can cause another fish species to go extinct by eating all of them. Then their
population will fall as well because they won t have any food source. An example of this is when
Harelip Sucker went extinct. The Harelip Sucker was a snail eating fish that lived in the Ohio
River over a hundred years ago. The snails were killed off by topsoil and the Harelip Sucker
went extinct (Ohio.gov). The third reason why I believe my claim is because it can lead to the
exploitation of non fishing zones/areas. Fishing companies will try to move to non fishing areas
because they need to meet their fishing quota and other fishing areas have been overfished. This
is called illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. IUU fishing accounts for an estimate
of about 40 percent of all fish caught in West Africa, and is also the highest level in the world.
The reason they are able to fish in the areas is because they have no reason to fear any checks by
fisheries

Comparing The Vain Jackdaw And The Donkey In The Lion Skin
The theme, be yourself reflects on both stories The Vain Jackdaw and the story The Donkey In
The Lion Skin both made by Aesop. In both stories It s about animals that learn That they
shouldn t be someone they re not/be yourself. In The Vain Jackdaw even at a kingdom you
should be yourself. One day the king made a competition to see which bird is most beautiful. At
the middle of the story the Jackdaw was searching the kingdom for other birds feathers to win the
competition. Later he made an outfit of all the other birds feathers. Other Jackdaws say we don t

Woman In The Odyssey
In the beginning there was darkness, and then magically God came to bring light. This light he
brought on Earth would be day, when the light disappears it will be called night. Genesis is a
crucial part of the bible because through this people could understand how the world was created.
Not only does it answer how the world was created, but also it answer the question of how man and
womanwere created as well. When Godcreated humans he wanted us to stay pure. This did not
happen because a snake manipulated Eve to eat the fruit off the tree she was forbidden from.
Although she knew it was wrong Eve ate the fruit hoping it would make her wise. This story
depicts woman as being curious beings, which most people might view as her being foolish.
Proverbs is somewhat different since it is more of a list a woman should fulfill; these tasks
however are not to be belittled. A woman does a lot more than what society thinks. They are wise
creatures capable of a lot more than they are given credit... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Genesis most people would characterize Eve as being foolish for listening to a snake,
however, I see it as being curious. The snake is described as being more subtil than any beast of
the field (Genesis 1.1). She cannot be blamed for being a fool since the snake was clearly more
cleaver than she was. Adam however committed the same crime as Eve, but he was convinced
by his equal to do so. When God created man and woman he made them clueless, they were
unaware of good and evil. Eve saw the opportunity the tree of the knowledge of good and evil
had to offer her. The tree would make her wise and although God said they would die from eating
the fruit they did not. By acting independently Eve was able to open her eyes to the truth of her
surroundings. In Proverb they describe everything a woman does more than just bare children. They
are smart individuals who have the ability to achieve

The University of Maryland s MBA Program
As a young professional, I am offered many pathways in this prominently developing business
world. My undergraduate studies and first hand work experience thus far have provided me with an
opportunity to make clear of the limitless possibilities within many career industries. Upon
graduating from the University of Maryland s Masters of Business Administration program, I want
to become a project manager for a top global defense technology company such as my current
employer, Northrop Grumman. My intention to seek a managementopportunity in this versatile
position would allow me to better expose my leadership abilities that I demonstrate through project
tasks and volunteer work on an everyday basis.
After indefinable further years of experience post MBA, my long term goal is to retain a program
manager position on an innovative program in the public sector. I will seek a program pertaining to
military technologies that would assist the United States in combat defense. I would be very
content in managing team resources and contribute value to a company s growth while positively
impacting our country s military. At Northrop Grumman, I have excelled by providing the customer
with micromanaging support to increase project structure on a largely noticed Social Security
Administration system.

Compare And Contrast The Devil Wears Prada Book And Movie
The job a million girls would die for: Novel vs. Movie
In 2006, David Frankel made a movie version of The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger.
The book and the movie are both set in New York and tell the story of a girl named Andy. In both
versions Andy starts working for Miranda Priestly, editor in chief of Runway, a fashion magazine.
Generally the film version of The Devil Wears Prada, what kind of experiences Andy passes
through is similar to what Andy experiences in Weisberger s novel. However, the movie is
different form the book because some characters have a different appeal and image, Andy s love
life might end up positive, and it ends in a different way.
One difference is the appeal and image of the characters. For example, in the book Andy has blond
hair and lives with her boyfriend named Alex Fineman. Later in the story, Alex breaks up with
Andy. In contrast, Andy has brown hair in the movie. Also the boyfriend s name is Nate Cooper,
instead of Alex Fineman. Another difference in characters is... Show more content on

They see each other every week for dinner. Also yellow cabs, nice looking people from New York
are well represented in both versions.
Another similarity, the main storyline, is that Andy gets to work for Runway in which Miranda
Priestly is editor in chief. Andy got accepted due to an interview which was different form all
other girls. Miranda gives it a shot. In both versions Miranda was in the beginning very
dissatisfied about Andy. There is also a similarity in Miranda s way of communication. She refuses
to share elevators with others and dismisses everyone with a cold That s

My Special Day
Today is my dad s birthday! I know that we are inviting some close friends over to celebrate his
special day, but no one is here at the moment. Because none of my friends have shown up, I
begin to play by myself. I know they are coming but I thought they would be here by now. I am
lonely and I wish someone was here to play with me. As people are filling the yard, I am not
recognizing any of the adults at the party. As of now, I am alone so I take my dog Goldie out to
the deepest part of my backyard.
5:00pm Friday the 6th
As I wonder when the cake will be served, I look back to my house. I continue playing with the
sticks that are in front of me. Since I am by myself, I try to stack the sticks on top of one another.
Bored, I walk through my yard to see if I recognize anyone. I find a huge stick on the ground,
which grabs my attention. I always love clearing out the backyard with sticks so I continue on my
way. As I pick up the stick, I swing it around like a sword. I find the perfect spot to start whacking
at the weeds, until I hear footsteps behind me. Who could that be? I thought Goldie was the only
one with me. I still hear the footsteps.

These interactions not only helped me understand various behavioral problems in children, but
fueled my interest in the field of child psychology.
Although marital commitments required me to relocate to a new place, my passion for
understanding child psychology continued. As a non paid volunteer, I worked for the welfare of
abused children from red light areas. I still consider those three years to be the most rewarding
ones in my potential career, owing to unique learning experiences and novel challenges faced
almost on a daily basis. In retrospect, my experience in handling the academic, emotional and
social issues of these kids during the Sunshine Foundation s after school program, was surely the
first concrete step in the field of child Psychology.
My decision to pursue graduate education in child psychology is accumulation of real life
experiences. These experiences gave me a feeling of extreme helplessness and developed an
urge to seek advanced knowledge in the field of child psychology. While working with abused,
abandoned children from red light areas, I came across one beautiful, reticent seven year old
girl. Though she was a very shy girl, I somehow managed to create an amazing rapport with her.
One day, I received a call from the organization informing that the child had vaginal bleeding and
was not ready to disclose anything to anyone. Since I had a rapport with her, I was called for help. I

Essay On Retrograde Amnesia
What is Retrograde Amnesia? Retrograde Amnesia is, being a common type of Amnesia, is the
one most people are familiar with. Retrograde Amnesia is the loss of past memories. If someone
falls and hits their head, the damage caused by that accident could cause the person to forget that
the accident even occurred. For example, a friend once decided to try snowboarding, and did
not learn how to stop before she went to the top of the hill. She went down, picking up speed,
and did not notice the small cliff at the bottom until it was too late to turn away. She decided to
fall so she would not go over the cliff, and while she was successful at that, she unfortunately hit
her head on a patch of ice as she fell. She remained conscience, but lost not only the memory of the
accident, she lost her memory of the entire week of the trip. Since this type of Amnesiausually
happens when trauma occurs to the brain, it seems likely that the accident causes failure in the
brains ability to retrieve information. Information is stored in many different parts of the brain, so
retrieval must also be in more than one part to occur. When a blow occurs to the head, the brain
essentially is bounced, from one end to the other. Since the brain is floating in fluid, typically
damage occurs in more area s than where the hit actually happened. Because damage occurs to
several parts of the brain, the risk

1.1 Explain The Difference Between Fire Intensity And...
1.1Explain (using words) how each of these three is calculated and identify the primary variable(s)
used in the calculations. Describe how these variables cause this influence.
Fireline intensity (IB) the rate of heat released over a set distance by the actively flaming front of
the fire (kW/m). It is calculated by measuring the weight of the fuel burned and the rate of spread.
The equation is IB = w h R
w is the weight of the fuel consumed by the fire (kg m 2).
h is the low fuel heat content and is a constant. 18260 kJ kg 1 = h
R is the rate of spread (m 1 s 1).
The weight of the fuel and the rate of spread affect fire intensity by increasing or decreasing it,
which in turn affects the fireline intensity. The heavier the fuel is, the more there is and the faster
the spread therefore increasing both the fire intensity and fireline intensity. The lighter the fuel, the
less there is and the slower the spread therefore decreasing both types of intensities.
Heat per Unit Area (HA) is the total heat released from a given area (kJ m 2). Heat per Unit Area is
a measurement of rate of spread and flame length.
The equation is HA = (60 IB) / R
IB is the fireline intensity (kJ m 1 s 1).
R is the rate of spread (m 1 s 1).

The Dalit Movement
Dalit Movement In Modern India
All those people of distinct castes and sub castes among the depressed classes who were
traditionally subjected to invidious discriminations on grounds of untouchability, and categorized as
the downtrodden, untouchables, depressed classes, exterior classes or Scheduled Castes were
called Dalits.
Dalit movement can be defined as institutional or organizational efforts made by Dalit leaders for
the liberation of the downtrodden masses. It is a movement of protest against untouchability,
casteism and superstitions. It aims at uplifting Dalits to the level of non Dalits.
The Bhakti movement was a reformative Hindu religious movement of the medieval period and it

Parkinson s disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the classical
motor symptoms: resting tremor, bradykinesia, akinesia, rigidity and postural instability. Although
the complete PD pathogenesis is not well understood, we have gained a better understanding of
its etiology, pathology, and molecular mechanisms, thanks to the use of animal models.
Importantly, none of the current available models is able to fully recapitulate PD symptoms and
pathology. Each model is based on the production of one or few pathological processes of PD,
which are either artificially induced in a way that is seldom relevant to the disease (like toxin

All stars are born in nebulae. Nebulae are huge cold clouds of gas and dust. The formation of
protostars requires huge clouds of gas and dust collapsing under gravitational forces. The stage of

core runs out of hydrogen and helium, the contacts and outer layers of the core expand, become
cold, and the brightness decreases. This is also known as a Red Giant or a Red Supergiant which
mainly consists of the stars mass. After a while of beginning the process of its death it goes through
other stages. The beginning of a star s death starts when their core runs out of hydrogen and then

Interpreting the Periodic Table Lab Report Name: Kelsey Cordero and Bruno Canteros Lab
Partners: Ashley Fernandez, Lab Experiment: Interpreting the Periodic Table Date: January 15,
2015 Introduction: The periodic table is the most important chemistry reference there is. It arranges
all the known elements in an informative array. Just like when entering a grocery store similar
items are grouped together which makes an item easier to find. Elements are arranged left to right
and top to bottom in order of increasing atomic number. The different rows of elements are called
periods. The period number of an element signifies the highest energy level an electron in that
element occupies. An element is a substance that is made... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In Lies We Trust Analysis
In Lies We Trust
The 2009 romantic fantasy movie The Invention of Lying portrays a world completely devoid of
untruths, where everyone tells the truth all the time and everything said is taken at face value.
Mark Bellison, the protagonist, begins by explaining that in his world, everyone tells the entire truth
, not matter how hurtful or cruel. The audience notices a Pepsi ad with the tagline, Pepsi: when they
don t have coke, among other peculiar things. This premise is not only humorous because it is so
contrary to reality, but also unsettling, because it brings to light how frequently humans lie and are
dependent on lying, as well as how the world cannot exist without it. Indeed, although lying is often
negatively perceived, the ubiquity of it is observed all around the world, particularly in
commonplace and social exchanges. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The offerings or help that the village people made to their so called brothers fighting for their Land
was a voluntary act but the bitter realization of the truth and the loss of the intitial romantic
fervour have made them feel that the rebels are nothing more than extortionist. The starting of
the story aptly presents the feelings of the poor villagers: There was an uneasy quiet in the
village: the underground extortionist had come and gone and along with them the hard earned
cash the vilagers had earned by digging the first alignment for a motorable road to their village.
(54) The poor villagers were fed up of the viloence wreaked by the overground as well as the
underground army. They succumbed to the pressure and gave up without any resistence. The
following lines reflect the fear and the helplessness of the villagers: they knew that these fierce
looking goons from the forest had come to the village at night with only one purpose: to rob them
in the name of underground government. Resisting them was of no use: they carried guns and the
consequences of any conflict would only mean retaliation. (55) At one point of the story, when a
poor man appealed to the leader of the rebel group to excuse him this time as he

Examples Of Bram Stoker As A Perverted Christ Figure In...
Dracula as a Perverted Christ Figure In Bram Stoker s novel, Dracula, is presented as a perverted
Christ figure because he imitates multiple actions of Christianity, and perverts those ideas. An
example of how Dracula is a perverted Christ figure would be when Dracula forces Mina to drink
his blood, he tries to mimic the Christian Communion, like when Christ gave up his blood for us. In
the novel Draculaalso takes the lives of numerous people, just two of them being Renfield, and
the mother looking for her child. Dracula also has the ability to transform into different figures,
for example a bat and a wolf. God is also has the ability to do this, but Dracula uses this power to

Satan In John Milton s Paradise Lost
When hearing the word Satan , people often think of a red man with horns, a pitchfork, and a
tail; he is often visualized in the pits of the underworld surrounded by flames. Why does society
picture him this way? Some may say Because he is evil or Because he fell from heaven , but
people mostly believe this because this is what they were taught. Satan is a figure appearing in
many texts of religion as someone who brings evil and temptation. He is known as the deceiver
who leads humanity astray, like he deceived Eve into eating the forbidden fruit. Some religious
groups teach that he originated as an angel, or something like an angel, who used to possess
great piety and beauty, but fell because of pride. He seduced humanity into the ways of
falsehood and sin, and has power in the fallen world; in other groups, Satan, also called the devil,
is described as a more malevolent entity opposed to God. Although Satan is generally viewed as
having negative characteristics, some groups have very different beliefs. Throughout literature,
Satan has been represented as the evillest entity to ever have existed, but Satan is not truly as evil
as he is portrayed because he is more of an anti heroor Byronic Heroin texts such as John Milton s
Paradise Lostas well as other academic scholars arguments, rather than being a complete antagonist.

Legal Issues Of Booking Online
As we have learned in this course, there is a lot of excitement regarding the fact that businesses
are revolutionized by cyberspace. The internet has become a very dominant force in the
marketplace and almost every retailer now has a website with the option to purchase online.
While buying online is time and occasionally cost efficient, we must weigh the benefits and
drawbacks of both methods. To control illicit behaviour on the internet, there must be a model
implemented for dealing with undesirable conduct. Based on our lectures, it is my
understanding that the purpose of a contract acts as a model to deter illicit conduct but it does
not stop all unlawful conduct. In this essay, I will discuss the legal issues surrounding online
shopping, more specifically purchasing/booking travel online and the risks associated with that.
For many, booking travel online offers a few perks such as the ability to compare prices, the
chance to comb through online reviews, and the convenience of booking your vacation at the
click of a button. Nevertheless, booking travel online also comes with some risks and more and
more scams are targeting consumers who are booking travel online. Booking your own travel can
create a lot of headaches for yourself and for trip companions. People are experiencing significantly
more issues when booking online. Of the pitfalls consumers are experiencing, there are legal issues
that may arise out of booking your travel online which supports my main argument

Analysis of Northrop Grumman and Raytheon Essay

The purpose of this company analysis is to discover why one company would be better to invest
in over the other. The analysis is based on two competing companies within the same industry.
While these two companies compare in products and services, they do not relate in overall size. To
assist in making an educating decision, many areas of each company were looked at. A
comprehensive financial ratio analysis was completed for each company, as well as an evaluation
of their strengths, weaknesses and future opportunities. While it is important to consider how a
company manages its finances, it is equally important to consider its future prospects as well.

further look at Raytheon s financial position, the data from a financial ratio analysis can be viewed.
To compare both Raytheon and Northrop Grumman, a financial ratio analysis was constructed for
the two companies. There were 19 total ratios and other financial factor utilized to compare both
companies. Out of all 19, Raytheon was able to best Northrop Grumman in 11. Some of the bigger
areas that are of concern are: current ratio, debt to asset ratio, times interest earned ratio, gross
profit rate, and asset turnover ratio. This is a good accomplishment for a company that sees s much
smaller revenues than many of its competitors. Although the company has much going for it, there
are still some concerns that should be taken into consideration. As mentioned above, the company
does see smaller revenues than many of its competitors. This lower generation of revenues could
end up putting the company at a disadvantage in such a competitive market. Raytheon s size could
also lead to a reduction in bargaining power against its competition (DATAMONITOR). Another
weakness is the company s dependence on government contracts. Since these contracts are

Franz Haydn Accomplishments
The composer that I have chosen to write about is Franz Joseph Haydn. I selected this composer
over all the rest because he is said to be the creator of the fundamental genres of classical music.
Franz Haydn is considered by some as the father of the symphony and the father of the string
quartet. He also influenced and inspired many other composers. For instance, many say Ludwig van
Beethovenwas one of his pupils. Beethoven is a fundamental composer (so anyone who teaches
him is, as a result, fundamental himself). And some even go as far as saying that he was
responsible for the success of both Mozart and Beethoven. During the time that he lived (between
March 31, 1732 and May 31, 1809) the main element of musicwas the counterpoint. He, however,

It s A Nomad World
In It s A Nomad Nomad World , Bruce Chatwin explains the value of travel in a human s life and
how one can benefit from it. A thesis to take away from the text is that humans are travellers at
heart. When humankind is presented with a challenge, they are not prone to shying away;
furthermore, once humans have started a journey they are admirably resilient to quitting, and
finally; humans are constantly searching to experience new sights and sounds. Because of these
traits, it is evident why humans are often found on journeys. As John Steinback once said, People
don t take trips, trips take people , emphasizing that although humans believe they are the ones who
decide to embark on a trip, it is actually the opposite: they are unable to... Show more content on

My knife is gripped underhanded, and my spear waggles in the air. And then I bark again and
again (Hitt 110). When Hill encounters these dogs he is prepared, with his knife and spear in
hand he will do whatever it takes in order to conquer this obstacle that stands in his path even if it
means barking. As Hitt is a traveler at heart, he will not allow the dogs, mere mortals, to stop him
from continuing his pilgrimage. Also, humans often encounter physically draining problems like
Bill Bryson experiences while hiking the Appalachian Trail in A Walk in the Woods: It was hell.
First days on hiking trips always are. I was hopelessly out of shape hopelessly. The pack weighed
way too much. Way too much (Bryson 50). In this case Bryson is struggling to deal with the
intense physical strain that hiking places on a traveler. Nevertheless, Bryson refuses to give up as
he mentions Still you stagger on (Bryson 51); showcasing how humans refuse to give in even when
the journey becomes physically tiring. Another type of challenge, oftentimes the most difficult to
deal with is the emotional war the journey unleashes on the traveler. For Bryson, this comes from
how difficult it is to see the progress that is being made while hiking through the mountains: The
elusive summit continually retreats by whatever distance you press forward, so that each time the
canopy parts enough to give a view you are dismayed to see that the topmost trees are as remote, as
unattainable, as before

Lucy Human Evolution
Lucy was exposed by Donald Johanson, an anthropologist, with his team, went to survey Hadar
in Ethiopia during the late 1970s for signs in understanding Human origins. On November 24,
1974 by the Awash River, Donald s plan for the day was to update his notes but decided
otherwise when one of his students, Tom Gray, joined him to find fossil bones. Both of them
were on the hot waterless plains examining the sandy terrain when a fossil was spotted; it turned
out to be an arm bone fragments on a slope. As they looked closer, more and more bones were
found, including a jaw, arm bone, a thighbone, ribs, and vertebrae. Donald and Tom had cautiously
examined the limited skeleton and calculated that a remarkable 40% of a hominid skeleton was
salvaged,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Experts claim that Lucy was in certain ways more adapted to walking vertical than a modern human
, as the pelvis has to cooperate between bipedal (using only two legs for walking) movement and
the capability to give birth to big brained offspring. Others talk about her arms, saying they were
longer than a modern human s, and the bones of her fingers were curve, these were also seen in
tree dwelling primates. This adds the question, how much did she use her climbing skills, or
were they purely evolutionary remains from arboreal descendants, is a matter of debate.
Although Lucy s hip and knee joints were not as specialized for a upright posture like humans,
she was clearly able of walking on two feet, although running like a modern human was
undoubtedly outside her capabilities. The size and shape of her ribcage and pelvis indicate that
she most likely had a quite large belly, like a modern ape, evidence to a relatively low quality,
high bulk diet. Due to her diet this would of given her a thicker waist, which most likely would
have impeded her flexibility, secondly her high shoulders and the shape of her torso meant she
would most likely not of been able to swing her arms like a human when running. All these
answers are due to her skeleton being so complete; Lucy gave the world an extraordinary picture
of her kind. In 1974, she exposed that human ancestors were up and walking around way before
the first stone tools were made, as fossil finding of much earlier bipedal hominids have deep rooted
that conclusion. Bipedalism, it seems, was the initial stage towards becoming

As the senior class this year, our class decided to bug the junior highers by forming BUG groups.
BUG, standing for Buddies Under God , was designed with the purpose of leading the junior
highers by example. The world and those who don t have a saving knowledge of Christ, look at
the Church. The impression they should see is one that results from following Christ s example.
They should see people who are full of the love of Christ. As leaders everyone should lead by
example, but the example that you use must be based on the Bible. It is foolish to believe that
people will want to do what they are told to do unless the leader is willing to do what he has asked
of his followers.
In addition to, and perhaps even more important than, leading by example is leading through
serving. Servant leadership at first thought sounds like an oxymoron. Popular opinion believes
that the leader is supposed to have people who serve him. But if we are to follow Christ s
example we must first serve. Quite possibly the most perfect example of servant leadership is the
well known story of Jesus washing his disciple s feet. The disciples were appalled that Christ would
do such a thing for them because it was a servant s job and Christ was their leader. But because He
washed their feet I am willing to bet that the disciple s respect for Jesus increased greatly. At the
first retreat of the year our class went up a day early for a time of fellowship and

William Carlos Williams Philomena Andronica And Gertrude...
William Carlos Williams Philomena Andronica and Gertrude Stein s Identity, a poem are both
visually and tonally very different texts. However, Stein and Williams have both used similar
approaches to literary form in their poems as can be seen in their non traditional approach to
meaning generation and rejection of grammatical convention. The poems also both show an interest
in the notion of identityand it s fluidity, although Stein employs repeated images in her
investigation whilst Williams approach lies in his clever use of parenthesis and vignette form.
The two texts both take an approach to punctuation and formatting that strays from grammatical
convention. The passage from Stein s Identity, a Poem presents a syntactic exploration of the idea
identity and self. By rejecting the form that the reader expects of a poem, Stein guides her
readers to an understanding of how language shapes identity. One example of this is the use of a
full stop where grammatical rule dictates there should be a question mark, and if the little dog is
not there is it alone. The lack of expected punctuation makes the reader question the idea that
meaning is dependent on grammatical conventions; why do we need a question mark in order to
understand the words as a question? Stein also uses a mixture of prose and poetic voice in her
poem. By contrasting lines such as I say two dogs but say a dog and a dog, which is distinctly
poetic, with lines with a prosaic tone The person

Why the mention of Clapham omnibus ? The Bolam judgment was pronounced in 1957 and
Clapham, at that time, was a nondescript south London suburb. It represented ordinary London.
Omnibus was used at that time for the public bus. Thus, the man on the top of a Clapham omnibus
was a hypothetical person, who was reasonably educated and intelligent but was a non specialist.
The courts used to judge the conduct of any defendant by comparing it with that of the hypothetical

Argumentative Essay On Food Deserts
Eradicating food deserts has definitely become a significant issue in food and nutrition guidelines

a huge advocate for this and aimed on eliminating food deserts within seven years in the United
States (Corapi). To achieve this goal, accurate definitions and the identification of the numerous
fooddeserts are certainly required. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

According to a New York Times article, Michelle Obama once stated, In so many neighborhoods,
if people want to buy a head of lettuce or salad or some fruit for their kid s lunch, they have to

the food deserts in the several low income neighborhoods within the city of Chicago. Mrs.
Obama has also advocated in getting schools to serve healthier lunches, as part to reduce
childhood obesity within these neighborhoods. Studies done in the past have shown that limited
access to healthy food and rather easier access to less nutritious food may be linked to poor diets
and, ultimately, to obesity and diet related diseases. Even when these food deserts do have access
to nearby convenience stores, it tends to be either overpriced or low quality food, which carry
mostly processed foods that offer little to no nutritional value, when compared to the food and
products that supermarkets have to offer. Adding on to this, those who depend on food stamps also

gathering research to develop a Comprehensive Conservation Plan. The research gathered can be
from previous research conducted by a variety of scientists. In addition, new data should be
collected on the current populationof Pygmy sloths in addition to the amount of mangroves on the
island. This plan will make sure that the endangered animals on the island are protected and
ensure that the refuge management is taking the steps to help recuperate the mangroves that have
been cut. The first step would be to gather a team to head the proposal. Some of the team
members should be from the refuge management, as well as people who are well informed on the
animals that inhabit the island and environmental information. Once the team is built, they will
need to gather local fishermen and regular visitors to the island to assess the situation and receive
feedback on what they believe to be the largest problems facing the island. With the help from the
local fishermen, who are the ones that are cutting down the pygmy sloth habitat, the refuge
management team will be able to assess the needs of the fishermen as well as the need of the
animals to create a plan of action to better ensure the safety of the island. From this research, the
team can create an initial draft of a plan for the next ten or fifteen years. The Comprehensive
Conservation Plans should focus on getting data on

The World Is Blue By Sylvia Earle
Nikki Etchenique Dr. Harper Marine Biology November 24, 2014 The World is Blue Final
Paper In 2009, Dr. Sylvia Earle wrote The World is Blue to educate and alert the reader about
human impacts on marine ecosystems. Through this book she conveys her passion and methodical
arguments concerning the importance of the conservation of the ocean, which encompasses
approximately 80 percent of the earth s surface. Dr. Earle states the ocean touches you with every
breath you take, every drop of water you drink, every bite you consume (17). This statement
emphasizes the significance of the ocean, not only for marine life, but all life forms on earth. The
book implies that currently in today s world, the conservation of the ocean requires a global effort
to reduce human damage from the past generations. Using facts gleaned from credible scientific
resources, she defines the problems of overfishing, bycatch, and pollution. By analyzing human
impacts on marine ecosystems, Dr. Earle determines successful and unsuccessful solutions to these
problems and suggests various ways individuals can change their lifestyles to reduce impact on the
environment as a whole. One may find it difficult to imagine the world as it was a century ago.
However, Dr. Earle informs us that with less than a quarter of the population occupying the Earth,
many believed that the ocean could yield limitless quantities of fish, whales, and other marine
wildlife (30). Through her book, she points out one problem

The Relationship Between Weather And Motor Vehicle Accidents
Within this research proposal, I will be discussing my hypothesis that will determine the question I
have for my final research study. This research study will gather information from archival data
and will not have any contact with any participants. This proposal will discuss the types of archival
data being collected, the variables that will be measured, the foreseen limits of this researchstudy,
and the procedure to intact the ethical principles of the population. I hypothesize that the number of
motor vehicle accidents declared in North Americawill be higher with rain, fog, and snow weather
conditions. For this research proposal I will be looking at completed studies and research to
determine if there is a relationship between weather and motor vehicle accidents. I will also look at
statistics, specifically Statistics Canada, data collection on vehicles driven and weather conditions
specific to areas in North America. One variable that are being measured is the type of weather
conditions, such as rain, snow, or fog. Another variable that is being measure is the amount and
type of motor vehicle. These variables will be researched specific to North America areas. Many
of the studies I am looking at are accessible through universities library and Google scholar.
Although for some of the studies, I need to have access to a student number for the universities
resources or pay for the material, it is still accessible publicly. I can be confident that the

Skyforger By Sampo Poem
It is presented in this musical composition as an allegory of all the innovation and comforts of the
modern world: by solving all of the basic needs of its owner, the Sampo turns him into an apathetic
and lazy figure, which doesn t rely anymore on his capabilities. The Sampo is the perfect metaphor
for the machine, whose work is inexorably replacing that of mankind.
In the 1970 s progressive rock also drew inspiration from the verses of the Kalevala. A Finnish band
by the same name was the first to be active in the genre, and was pretty popular in those years as a

The track Silver Bride reminds of the maiden of Pohjola, Ilmarinen s beloved, whose hearth he
tries to conquer in the verses of the Kalevala. The narration is from the perspective of a single
character and echoes different parts of the poem, relying on the structure of Tales from the
Thousand Lake. The sound is more melodic and folk rock than the other albums, making Skyforger
the most commercial work of the Finnish band.
The artwork of The Beginning of Times features the cosmic egg from which Väinämöinen is
born. Released in 2011, the album offers all the musical elements introduced in all the previous
works, summarised in one single masterpiece. In this album the band praises Väinämöinen as
the iconic hero of Finnish mythology in the same way Lönnrot did in his epic poem.
It is quite likely that the author of the Kalevala himself would have never imagined the potential
influence of the poem on the various branches of Finland s cultural life, especially the music. The
most representative work of Finnish literature and the most remarkable beacon of the ancient
traditions of the Finns had been an important source of inspiration for musicians inside, and outside,
the Finnish territory, and it s outstanding charm will hopefully be passed on to the next

I went into this research trying to have a clear mind, blocking out the facts that his father, George
H. W. Bush, and brother George W. Bush, were both former presidents of the United States
. I did not
want to try and categorize Jeb into a category with others. I wanted to keep him as an individual.
After researching Jeb on his political stance in running for President of 2016, I have soon
discovered that he fell into the category as, another Bush . I do not agree with some of his
standing issues, mainly his insight on education. The common core curriculum is a horrible
learning formula for our children. As an adult and knowing how my education experience was
growing up through school, and looking at how my children are being forced to learn common
core, makes my job as a parent even more difficult. I struggle day in and day out, trying to wrap
my head around the way my children are learning at school, so I am able to offer the support
they need at home while completing their homework assignments. When I have to look at my
children and say, I m sorry, mom will not be able to help explain this to you because I just don t
understand how you are being taught , just breaks my heart as a parent. This Common core has
made learning a deeper struggle for our children and I will not, and I mean will NOT, support it. I

The Stereotypes Of `` Stuff Asian People Like `` And The...
Asians are typically loud especially when we are on the phone because we do not take insights
of our surroundings. This is one of the biggest stereotypes about Asians out there. According to a
2008 online article called Stuff Asian People Like written by Peter; states that Asians tend to be
loud due to adversity. We were compared to the Anglo Saxon legend of Beowulf. Asians are
actually peaceful looking creatures who are soon to be evolved into creatures of such legends
like Beowulf . According to Peter, we are compared to Beowulf because when Asians tend to talk
loudly, it is as if we are screaming at the top of our lungs while trying to kill someone as
Beowulf; a barbaric warrior would do. Peter also states that Asians tend to speak out loud due to
the fact that we are stressed out in life. Peter is really basing this stereotype off of some kung fu
movie, because we all know it is true that when someone like Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee starts
fighting, they tend to pull out some loud grunts. Also the article states that we speak loudly
because we are not able to express our opinions due to communism laying a barrier on our world
and once we hit America, we are loud due to that barrier being lifted. What a big load of lies. I say
it is a lie because I used to visit my country of Vietnam back then, and Vietnam is a huge communist
country, yet I have seen many people especially other ethnic Asians visiting the country talking
extremely loud. Voicing opinions are one thing,

Universal Set Of Codes In Health Care Case Study
1) Why is a universally accepted set of codes for diagnoses and procedures/interventions
important? In the prior weeks, I had noted that many health care professionals utilize many
different methods of practice, as well as implement a certain something to each of the medical
cases that reflects that clinician s style. No matter the endless routes to get to a diagnosis or the
many diverse recommendations of treatment for that diagnosis, codes are the same. The medical
field having a universal set of codes for diagnoses and procedures/interventions is very important
because this set of codes keeps all clinicians, medical facilities and insurance companies on the
same page. From what I read, the universal set of codes consists of two volumes

A simple database search will supply a smorgasbord of articles, papers, and personal writings
about the abuse and inhumanity of sweatshop factories. However, there is always two sides to
every coin and Zwolinski s article approaches the topic from the much less popular position of
defending international factories and cheap labor. He formulates a well written academic journal
entry presenting a stout argument for sweatshops while also presenting possible counterarguments.
Zwolinski s strongest premise is the central idea of choice and voluntary action. In fact, he opens
his paper saying: For the most part, individuals who work in sweatshops choose to do so. They
might not like working in sweatshops, and they might strongly desire that their

Exploring Morality in Measure for Measure Essay
Exploring Morality in Measure for Measure
In Measure for Measure, Shakespeare is able to examine the concept of right and wrong through
the characters of Mistress Overdone and Mariana. Throughout the play, by using characters that
most people would find morally reprehensible, Shakespeare is able to give the audience a
different view of these people and, hopefully, show his audience that people aren t always what
they appear to be. Through the character of Mistress Overdone, Shakespeare is able to bring a
jovial side to the oldest job known to man prostitution. Through the character of Mariana,
Shakespeare allows the audience to decide if two wrongs do, in fact, make a right. While the
concepts of right and wrong are given a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, who gives the right to one man, or a group of people, to determine what is right and
wrong for everyone? This question allows Shakespeare to challenge the general notion of
something always being right or wrong. Through this scene with Mistress Overdone, Shakespeare
wants his audience to consider if something can be always right or always wrong. However, what
he does prove is that a person determining morality for everyone else is always wrong. By not
allowing individuals to determine what they want to do for themselves, no society will ever be able
to become right.
In lines 244 253 of act five, scene one, Angelo explains to the Duke why he could not marry
Mariana. Shakespeare, by showing a petty reason like her dowry was lost at sea, is able to have
his audience believe that the actions of Mariana were right. However, even though these actions
seem right, the audience has to wonder if, in fact, they are right. Is it right to lie to someone you
are in love with in order for you to sleep with them? By putting that spin on it, most people would
assume that not on is this wrong, but also immoral as well. By challenging people s general
conceptions about what is right and wrong, Shakespeare is able to have his audience look at the
situation in two different ways, and, in the end, make a decision for themselves.
In Measure for Measure, Shakespeare uses the audience s general conceptions of

The first humanoids appeared in Ireland during the 7th millennium BC. They are believed to have
arrived from France and Scandinavia over the open ocean. They settled areas on the North Eastern
coast of Ireland. During the Mesolithic period inhabitants depended mostly on fishing and hunting
and gathering. Curraghs, light weight boats, were used to navigate inland water and coastal fishing.
The only remnants of this culture are the imprints left in pottery, there were no major contributions

Patrick s Confessio was written circa 440 AD, by St. Patrick. In the Confessio St. Patrick tells
the story to the Irish people of why he came to Ireland. He tell them of the messages sent to him
from God throughout his life that had saved him from slavery during his childhood. He uses the
story of his life to show the Irish why they should turn to Christianity. St. Patrick even explains
the Irish that he is not a perfect person. I know I cannot trust myself as long as I am in this body
subject to death This quote shows that he does not hold him above the Irish people, but as an
equal. He talks about how even though he has sinned God has forgiven him and has even saved
him in times of need. This confession by St Patrick also defends his actions in Ireland. When I
baptised so many thousands of people, did I hope to receive even the smallest payment? If so,
tell me, and I will return it to you This quote tells the Irish that he is not converting them in a
selfish way. He is converting them for their sakes and because he was asked by God himself. In
1171 internal struggle for power caused the Irish to be open to attack from Anglo Welsh warriors.
This is the first time that Ireland had faced an army from outside of it s own borders, which had
this meant that he Irish had not had to keep up with the current military innovations. In October of
1171 King Henry II arrived in Ireland. In 1172 King Henry took Dublin under his protection and
issued the first Charter for his city .

Commentary on Alphonso Lingis’s article, The World as a...
Commentary on Alphonso Lingis s article, The World as a Whole
Martin Heidegger s work in Being and Time elucidated a phenomenological ontology in which
death and anxiety function as the imminent possibility of impossibility, circumscribing Dasein and
inscribing weight to Dasein s temporal existence. He constructs an individual whose ontological
whole is made of three fundamental elements that function as a whole; understanding, feeling and
action. This being, Dasein (translated as Being There), exists in the world, and Heidegger
constructs Dasein s ontology as being in the world. This is the way Alphonso Lingis predicates his
understanding of Heidegerrian phenomenology in an essay from Research in Phenomenology
entitled The World... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heidegger spoke of Dasein intentionally. He did not want to limit his language to that of
Heidegger and speak of just the human, because the limitations this term would imply. Being
and Time is a very complex work, this article does a very good job at tackling Heidegger s
project, but it focuses on a few things. Lingis discusses Dasein as being constitutive of the world
, Dasein is being in the world. Dasein is in the world, and dwelling is characterized as care ,
states Lingis. He shows us how Dasein sees the things in the world as a field of equipment for
use, The practicable field, a layout of relays, is later characterized as openness. This openness is
suspended in the abysses of nothingness, death. Dasein is thrown into the world, Heidegger shows
us how we are born into a world which we have not constructed, which we cannot control. The
Others are already there, we encounter them when we encounter their buildings, their
constructions, their language. The common world precedes and makes possible the perceptual
field of any individual. The language, the interpretive system of Das Man precedes and makes
possible any singularizing interpretation of one s own situation. Dasein is being in the world with
others. Dasein s function is projection, Dasein is temporal, and as we ve said Dasein has three facets

Why Lacrosse Should Be A Professional Sport
Everyone loves the popular professional sports like baseball and football, so why should people not
be able to see what lacrosse players can do? Young kids in the world can be encouraged like other

who want to play lacrosseall of their life will have a chance at getting into the professional s and
they can see how good they have become. Clearly, lacrosse should become a professional sport.
Young kids will be encouraged like other kids in other sports to play lacrosse. The reason most
kids are wanting to play popular sports is because they can see people and be encouraged by
them. People who are young lacrosse players want to go to a game but they never know where to
find one because people don t know where they are played. Lacrosse should be a professional sport
because it is dominating with popularity and the population is increasing fast. Many quotes are
stated to build up the encouragement like Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a

The Five Stages Of Freud s Theory Of Development
Introduction
Theories of development provide a framework for thinking about human growth, development, and
learning. The psychosexual theory of development was proposed by the famous psychoanalyst
Sigmund Freud, this theory defines how personalities grow during childhood that can later be
reflected in the attitude and behaviors of adults. Freud believed there to be five stages of
psychosexual development: Oral, Anal, Phallic, Latent and Genital. At each of these stages,
pleasure is focused on a particular part of the body. Too much or too little pleasure in any one of
these stages caused a fixation which would lead to personality or psychological disorders. The
purpose of this assignment is to evaluate whether the students are able to apply ... Show more

At first Freud would likely recommend that parents encourage their children s natural tendencies to
focus on the above body parts and functions without allowing the children to overindulge. I think
most parents naturally try to guide their children toward control in all things, but of course, if you
believe
Freud s theories, it seems logical that parents will certainly be limited by their own fixations left
over from childhood, making it especially difficult for them to objectively steer their kids. I
believed that the most applicable part of Freud s psychosexual theory is said to be observed during
the phallic stage, concerning the Oedipus complex. Freud s theory states in psychology when a
small child develops an unusual attraction to one of their parents.
Conclusion
Now I can conclude that Freud s psychosexual theory only can explain and predict some of the
human development. In my opinion, Freud explained the oral, anal, latency and genital stage

  • 2. Social Mobility In America Social mobility is the foundation of the American Dream. Immigrants come to the United States with hopes that the social policies and economic opportunities in this country will provide them with a better future than they would receive back home. The main factors immigrants believe will allow them to elevate themselves within this country are hard work and education. However contrary to their belief, only a proper education, achieved in part through the knowledge of resources, will allow them to elevate themselves socially and achieve things that their forefathers could not. Inclusively there are very clear inequalities with the opportunities, the access to these opportunities, and the foreseeable potential this country offers immigrants. For example there is a clear uneven... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though we often boast about our country being the best; there are clear discrepancies that demonstrate how we as a society have forgotten about the needs of the lower classes. All of these social and political factors influence and affect the potential for success of children in different rungs of the socioeconomic ladder. Furthermore the American Dream is the built upon the belief that hard work will lead to prosperity in this country. However it more or less acts as a veil cloaking the reality that not only are resources stacked against low income communities but access to the resources and specifically those in the educational system are unequally distributed, thus perpetuating the social stratification of the working class and specifically immigrants. • 4. Pros And Cons Of Overfishing Chai Lin Ms Signorino LA 11 20 April 2016 Fresh Fish Forever Fish have been one of mankind s greatest resource throughout history. They have been sustenance to civilizations in the most extreme climates. But now they are being overfished. There are pros and cons of overfishing. Some pros include more jobs, healthier food, and it provides food for the world. Overfishing should be stopped because the fishing methods that companies use can be very destructive to aquatic ecosystems, they can disrupt balances in the food chain and can lead to the exploitation of non fishing zones/areas, and it can cause overpopulation of other species. Stop overfish and regulate commercial fishing. Critics of regulating fishing would say that overfishing creates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When predatory fish are gone, the population of the fish that they used to eat will grow. Then the fish themselves can cause another fish species to go extinct by eating all of them. Then their population will fall as well because they won t have any food source. An example of this is when Harelip Sucker went extinct. The Harelip Sucker was a snail eating fish that lived in the Ohio River over a hundred years ago. The snails were killed off by topsoil and the Harelip Sucker went extinct (Ohio.gov). The third reason why I believe my claim is because it can lead to the exploitation of non fishing zones/areas. Fishing companies will try to move to non fishing areas because they need to meet their fishing quota and other fishing areas have been overfished. This is called illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. IUU fishing accounts for an estimate of about 40 percent of all fish caught in West Africa, and is also the highest level in the world. The reason they are able to fish in the areas is because they have no reason to fear any checks by fisheries ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Woman In The Odyssey In the beginning there was darkness, and then magically God came to bring light. This light he brought on Earth would be day, when the light disappears it will be called night. Genesis is a crucial part of the bible because through this people could understand how the world was created. Not only does it answer how the world was created, but also it answer the question of how man and womanwere created as well. When Godcreated humans he wanted us to stay pure. This did not happen because a snake manipulated Eve to eat the fruit off the tree she was forbidden from. Although she knew it was wrong Eve ate the fruit hoping it would make her wise. This story depicts woman as being curious beings, which most people might view as her being foolish. Proverbs is somewhat different since it is more of a list a woman should fulfill; these tasks however are not to be belittled. A woman does a lot more than what society thinks. They are wise creatures capable of a lot more than they are given credit... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For Genesis most people would characterize Eve as being foolish for listening to a snake, however, I see it as being curious. The snake is described as being more subtil than any beast of the field (Genesis 1.1). She cannot be blamed for being a fool since the snake was clearly more cleaver than she was. Adam however committed the same crime as Eve, but he was convinced by his equal to do so. When God created man and woman he made them clueless, they were unaware of good and evil. Eve saw the opportunity the tree of the knowledge of good and evil had to offer her. The tree would make her wise and although God said they would die from eating the fruit they did not. By acting independently Eve was able to open her eyes to the truth of her surroundings. In Proverb they describe everything a woman does more than just bare children. They are smart individuals who have the ability to achieve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast The Devil Wears Prada Book And Movie The job a million girls would die for: Novel vs. Movie In 2006, David Frankel made a movie version of The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger. The book and the movie are both set in New York and tell the story of a girl named Andy. In both versions Andy starts working for Miranda Priestly, editor in chief of Runway, a fashion magazine. Generally the film version of The Devil Wears Prada, what kind of experiences Andy passes through is similar to what Andy experiences in Weisberger s novel. However, the movie is different form the book because some characters have a different appeal and image, Andy s love life might end up positive, and it ends in a different way. One difference is the appeal and image of the characters. For example, in the book Andy has blond hair and lives with her boyfriend named Alex Fineman. Later in the story, Alex breaks up with Andy. • 11. My Special Day Today is my dad s birthday! I know that we are inviting some close friends over to celebrate his special day, but no one is here at the moment. Because none of my friends have shown up, I begin to play by myself. I know they are coming but I thought they would be here by now. I am lonely and I wish someone was here to play with me. As people are filling the yard, I am not recognizing any of the adults at the party. As of now, I am alone so I take my dog Goldie out to the deepest part of my backyard. 5:00pm Friday the 6th As I wonder when the cake will be served, I look back to my house. I continue playing with the sticks that are in front of me. Since I am by myself, I try to stack the sticks on top of one another. Bored, I walk through my yard to see if I recognize anyone. I find a huge stick on the ground, which grabs my attention. I always love clearing out the backyard with sticks so I continue on my way. As I pick up the stick, I swing it around like a sword. I find the perfect spot to start whacking at the weeds, until I hear footsteps behind me. Who could that be? I thought Goldie was the only one with me. I still hear the footsteps. 9:00 pm Friday the 6th Walking through my back yard, I find the boy who will change my life. I do not recognize this boy, which means my parents must know his parents. My Interest In School Psychology Is A Sheer Result Of My My interest in School Psychology is a sheer result of my experiences at various workplaces and certain decisions I have opted for in my life. These experiences have prepared me to pursue advanced studies in the field, while strengthening my passion and in providing me with the background required to succeed in this important area. In order to achieve my full potential in the field, I look forward to entering MEd/EdS program at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These interactions not only helped me understand various behavioral problems in children, but fueled my interest in the field of child psychology. Although marital commitments required me to relocate to a new place, my passion for understanding child psychology continued. As a non paid volunteer, I worked for the welfare of abused children from red light areas. I still consider those three years to be the most rewarding ones in my potential career, owing to unique learning experiences and novel challenges faced almost on a daily basis. In retrospect, my experience in handling the academic, emotional and social issues of these kids during the Sunshine Foundation s after school program, was surely the first concrete step in the field of child Psychology. My decision to pursue graduate education in child psychology is accumulation of real life experiences. These experiences gave me a feeling of extreme helplessness and developed an urge to seek advanced knowledge in the field of child psychology. While working with abused, abandoned children from red light areas, I came across one beautiful, reticent seven year old girl. Though she was a very shy girl, I somehow managed to create an amazing rapport with her. • 14. Essay On Retrograde Amnesia What is Retrograde Amnesia? Retrograde Amnesia is, being a common type of Amnesia, is the one most people are familiar with. Retrograde Amnesia is the loss of past memories. If someone falls and hits their head, the damage caused by that accident could cause the person to forget that the accident even occurred. For example, a friend once decided to try snowboarding, and did not learn how to stop before she went to the top of the hill. She went down, picking up speed, and did not notice the small cliff at the bottom until it was too late to turn away. She decided to fall so she would not go over the cliff, and while she was successful at that, she unfortunately hit her head on a patch of ice as she fell. She remained conscience, but lost not only the memory of the accident, she lost her memory of the entire week of the trip. Since this type of Amnesiausually happens when trauma occurs to the brain, it seems likely that the accident causes failure in the brains ability to retrieve information. Information is stored in many different parts of the brain, so retrieval must also be in more than one part to occur. When a blow occurs to the head, the brain essentially is bounced, from one end to the other. Since the brain is floating in fluid, typically damage occurs in more area s than where the hit actually happened. Because damage occurs to several parts of the brain, the risk ... • 18. 1.1 Explain The Difference Between Fire Intensity And... 1.1Explain (using words) how each of these three is calculated and identify the primary variable(s) used in the calculations. Describe how these variables cause this influence. Fireline intensity (IB) the rate of heat released over a set distance by the actively flaming front of the fire (kW/m). It is calculated by measuring the weight of the fuel burned and the rate of spread. The equation is IB = w h R w is the weight of the fuel consumed by the fire (kg m 2). h is the low fuel heat content and is a constant. 18260 kJ kg 1 = h R is the rate of spread (m 1 s 1). The weight of the fuel and the rate of spread affect fire intensity by increasing or decreasing it, which in turn affects the fireline intensity. The heavier the fuel is, the more there is and the faster the spread therefore increasing both the fire intensity and fireline intensity. The lighter the fuel, the less there is and the slower the spread therefore decreasing both types of intensities. Heat per Unit Area (HA) is the total heat released from a given area (kJ m 2). Heat per Unit Area is a measurement of rate of spread and flame length. The equation is HA = (60 IB) / R IB is the fireline intensity (kJ m 1 s 1). R is the rate of spread (m 1 s 1). For Bryson, this comes from how difficult it is to see the progress that is being made while hiking through the mountains: The elusive summit continually retreats by whatever distance you press forward, so that each time the canopy parts enough to give a view you are dismayed to see that the topmost trees are as remote, as unattainable, as before ... • 36. Lucy Human Evolution Lucy was exposed by Donald Johanson, an anthropologist, with his team, went to survey Hadar in Ethiopia during the late 1970s for signs in understanding Human origins. On November 24, 1974 by the Awash River, Donald s plan for the day was to update his notes but decided otherwise when one of his students, Tom Gray, joined him to find fossil bones. Both of them were on the hot waterless plains examining the sandy terrain when a fossil was spotted; it turned out to be an arm bone fragments on a slope. As they looked closer, more and more bones were found, including a jaw, arm bone, a thighbone, ribs, and vertebrae. Donald and Tom had cautiously examined the limited skeleton and calculated that a remarkable 40% of a hominid skeleton was salvaged,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Experts claim that Lucy was in certain ways more adapted to walking vertical than a modern human , as the pelvis has to cooperate between bipedal (using only two legs for walking) movement and the capability to give birth to big brained offspring. Others talk about her arms, saying they were longer than a modern human s, and the bones of her fingers were curve, these were also seen in tree dwelling primates. This adds the question, how much did she use her climbing skills, or were they purely evolutionary remains from arboreal descendants, is a matter of debate. Although Lucy s hip and knee joints were not as specialized for a upright posture like humans, she was clearly able of walking on two feet, although running like a modern human was undoubtedly outside her capabilities. The size and shape of her ribcage and pelvis indicate that she most likely had a quite large belly, like a modern ape, evidence to a relatively low quality, high bulk diet. Due to her diet this would of given her a thicker waist, which most likely would have impeded her flexibility, secondly her high shoulders and the shape of her torso meant she would most likely not of been able to swing her arms like a human when running. All these answers are due to her skeleton being so complete; Lucy gave the world an extraordinary picture of her kind. In 1974, she exposed that human ancestors were up and walking around way before the first stone tools were made, as fossil finding of much earlier bipedal hominids have deep rooted that conclusion. Bipedalism, it seems, was the initial stage towards becoming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The mother duck easily climbs the first stair and waits for the other little ducks to climb up. The impression they should see is one that results from following Christ s example. They should see people who are full of the love of Christ. As leaders everyone should lead by example, but the example that you use must be based on the Bible. It is foolish to believe that people will want to do what they are told to do unless the leader is willing to do what he has asked of his followers. In addition to, and perhaps even more important than, leading by example is leading through serving. Servant leadership at first thought sounds like an oxymoron. Popular opinion believes that the leader is supposed to have people who serve him. But if we are to follow Christ s example we must first serve. Quite possibly the most perfect example of servant leadership is the well known story of Jesus washing his disciple s feet. The disciples were appalled that Christ would do such a thing for them because it was a servant s job and Christ was their leader. But because He washed their feet I am willing to bet that the disciple s respect for Jesus increased greatly. • 39. William Carlos Williams Philomena Andronica And Gertrude... William Carlos Williams Philomena Andronica and Gertrude Stein s Identity, a poem are both visually and tonally very different texts. However, Stein and Williams have both used similar approaches to literary form in their poems as can be seen in their non traditional approach to meaning generation and rejection of grammatical convention. The poems also both show an interest in the notion of identityand it s fluidity, although Stein employs repeated images in her investigation whilst Williams approach lies in his clever use of parenthesis and vignette form. The two texts both take an approach to punctuation and formatting that strays from grammatical convention. The passage from Stein s Identity, a Poem presents a syntactic exploration of the idea identity and self. By rejecting the form that the reader expects of a poem, Stein guides her readers to an understanding of how language shapes identity. One example of this is the use of a full stop where grammatical rule dictates there should be a question mark, and if the little dog is not there is it alone. The lack of expected punctuation makes the reader question the idea that meaning is dependent on grammatical conventions; why do we need a question mark in order to understand the words as a question? Stein also uses a mixture of prose and poetic voice in her poem. By contrasting lines such as I say two dogs but say a dog and a dog, which is distinctly poetic, with lines with a prosaic tone The person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Bolam judgment was pronounced in 1957 and Clapham, at that time, was a nondescript south London suburb. It represented ordinary London. Omnibus was used at that time for the public bus. As part of her Let s Move! campaign, Michelle Obama was a huge advocate for this and aimed on eliminating food deserts within seven years in the United States (Corapi). To achieve this goal, accurate definitions and the identification of the numerous fooddeserts are certainly required. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), food deserts are areas that lack access to affordable fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low fat milk, and other foods that make up a full and healthy diet (CDC Features). She was referring to the food deserts in the several low income neighborhoods within the city of Chicago. Mrs. Obama has also advocated in getting schools to serve healthier lunches, as part to reduce childhood obesity within these neighborhoods. Studies done in the past have shown that limited access to healthy food and rather easier access to less nutritious food may be linked to poor diets and, ultimately, to obesity and diet related diseases. The research gathered can be from previous research conducted by a variety of scientists. In addition, new data should be collected on the current populationof Pygmy sloths in addition to the amount of mangroves on the island. This plan will make sure that the endangered animals on the island are protected and ensure that the refuge management is taking the steps to help recuperate the mangroves that have been cut. The first step would be to gather a team to head the proposal. Some of the team members should be from the refuge management, as well as people who are well informed on the animals that inhabit the island and environmental information. Once the team is built, they will need to gather local fishermen and regular visitors to the island to assess the situation and receive feedback on what they believe to be the largest problems facing the island. With the help from the local fishermen, who are the ones that are cutting down the pygmy sloth habitat, the refuge management team will be able to assess the needs of the fishermen as well as the need of the animals to create a plan of action to better ensure the safety of the island. The World Is Blue By Sylvia Earle Nikki Etchenique Dr. Harper Marine Biology November 24, 2014 The World is Blue Final Paper In 2009, Dr. Sylvia Earle wrote The World is Blue to educate and alert the reader about human impacts on marine ecosystems. Through this book she conveys her passion and methodical arguments concerning the importance of the conservation of the ocean, which encompasses approximately 80 percent of the earth s surface. Dr. Earle states the ocean touches you with every breath you take, every drop of water you drink, every bite you consume (17). This statement emphasizes the significance of the ocean, not only for marine life, but all life forms on earth. The book implies that currently in today s world, the conservation of the ocean requires a global effort to reduce human damage from the past generations. Using facts gleaned from credible scientific resources, she defines the problems of overfishing, bycatch, and pollution. By analyzing human impacts on marine ecosystems, Dr. Earle determines successful and unsuccessful solutions to these problems and suggests various ways individuals can change their lifestyles to reduce impact on the environment as a whole. One may find it difficult to imagine the world as it was a century ago. However, Dr. Earle informs us that with less than a quarter of the population occupying the Earth, many believed that the ocean could yield limitless quantities of fish, whales, and other marine wildlife (30). However, what he does prove is that a person determining morality for everyone else is always wrong. By not allowing individuals to determine what they want to do for themselves, no society will ever be able to become right. Commentary on Alphonso Lingis s article, The World as a Whole Martin Heidegger s work in Being and Time elucidated a phenomenological ontology in which death and anxiety function as the imminent possibility of impossibility, circumscribing Dasein and inscribing weight to Dasein s temporal existence. He constructs an individual whose ontological whole is made of three fundamental elements that function as a whole; understanding, feeling and action. This being, Dasein (translated as Being There), exists in the world, and Heidegger constructs Dasein s ontology as being in the world. This is the way Alphonso Lingis predicates his understanding of Heidegerrian phenomenology in an essay from Research in Phenomenology entitled The World... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Heidegger spoke of Dasein intentionally. He did not want to limit his language to that of Heidegger and speak of just the human, because the limitations this term would imply. Being and Time is a very complex work, this article does a very good job at tackling Heidegger s project, but it focuses on a few things. Lingis discusses Dasein as being constitutive of the world , Dasein is being in the world. Dasein is in the world, and dwelling is characterized as care , states Lingis. He shows us how Dasein sees the things in the world as a field of equipment for use, The practicable field, a layout of relays, is later characterized as openness. This openness is suspended in the abysses of nothingness, death. Dasein is thrown into the world, Heidegger shows us how we are born into a world which we have not constructed, which we cannot control. The Others are already there, we encounter them when we encounter their buildings, their constructions, their language. The common world precedes and makes possible the perceptual field of any individual. The language, the interpretive system of Das Man precedes and makes possible any singularizing interpretation of one s own situation. Dasein is being in the world with others. Dasein s function is projection, Dasein is temporal, and as we ve said Dasein has three facets : understanding, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 58. The Five Stages Of Freud s Theory Of Development Introduction Theories of development provide a framework for thinking about human growth, development, and learning. The psychosexual theory of development was proposed by the famous psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, this theory defines how personalities grow during childhood that can later be reflected in the attitude and behaviors of adults. Freud believed there to be five stages of psychosexual development: Oral, Anal, Phallic, Latent and Genital. At each of these stages, pleasure is focused on a particular part of the body. Too much or too little pleasure in any one of these stages caused a fixation which would lead to personality or psychological disorders. At first Freud would likely recommend that parents encourage their children s natural tendencies to focus on the above body parts and functions without allowing the children to overindulge. I think most parents naturally try to guide their children toward control in all things, but of course, if you believe Freud s theories, it seems logical that parents will certainly be limited by their own fixations left over from childhood, making it especially difficult for them to objectively steer their kids. I believed that the most applicable part of Freud s psychosexual theory is said to be observed during the phallic stage, concerning the Oedipus complex. Freud s theory states in psychology when a small child develops an unusual attraction to one of their parents. Conclusion Now I can conclude that Freud s psychosexual theory only can explain and predict some of the human development. In my opinion, Freud explained the oral, anal, latency and genital stage ...
