The Debate Of Banning The Death Penalty
Public Executions The United States has been going through the debate of banning the death
penalty for decades; however, it continues to remain at a standstill as crime rates continue to stay
the same throughout the country. The people for continuing the death penalty happens to see their
group split in to two groups. One for the private executions and the other for public. Public
executions can do many things like deter crimes from happening, giving the victims closure, and
finding the right kind of execution method that is inexpensive and once used throughout history.
The ability to deter crimes with the method of public execution is one we should not waste. It
leaves everyone with the knowledge that there is nothing to keep them from being the next one on
the chopping block so to speak, especially if they have committed such a crimeto deserve the
sentence. It takes removes this mindset that the public has come to grasp that everything does not
have a consequence for the actions they take. The scare factor works brilliantly in this regard,
holding the public to a line they know not to cross. With the line drawn, the number of convicts in
the prisonsystem would decrease. This will also free up taxpayers money for other things like
education, medical, security, and paying off the national debt. Secondly, this would bring closer to
the families, as well as, friends and acquaintances of the victim. This type of execution would give
everyone the benefit of seeing

Examples Of Opposition In Anthem By Ayn Rand
Opposition in Society The society in which the characters from Anthem by Ayn Rand live in is one
of little to no opposition. The World Council made rules at their own discretion and the citizens
followed them without question. The big question, though, is why. Why did the citizens mindlessly
follow the rules and restrictions of the World Council? The citizens of this futuristic society
followed their leaders because they were suppressed. They were trained to believe that the World
Council was smarter than them, they were lied to about their jobs and the common good, and
anyone who thought differently was punished. These three things are seen in several places
throughout the novel, highlighting how much the citizens in the futuristic society of Anthem were
suppressed in order for the State to remain in power. In the first chapter of the novel, readers see
that, at an early age, the citizens of the society are taught to think nothing of themselves and more
of the World Council. Equality tells us of his childhood in the Home of the Students where they
were required to say the following every day, We are nothing. Mankind is all. By the... Show more

Equality also shares with the readers in the first chapter that the teachers at the Home of the
Students told them, Dare not choose in your minds the work you would like to do when you
leave the Home of the Students. You shall do that in which the Council of Vocations shall
prescribe for you. For the Council of Vocations knows ... where you are needed by your brother
men (22). By telling the students this, the teachers were instilling the lies in them that whatever
they were assigned was needed by the citizens. In doing this, the State kept the majority of
citizens from opposing their job since they were lead to believe that the job they were required to
do was vital to the success of the

History Of The Exclusionary Rule
More than a century since the Fourth Amendment, its value was hardly recognizable by the
criminal defendants since evidences seized by law enforcement in violation of warrant and
probable cause requirements was justifiable during the defendant prosecution. The penalty for
improperly search and seizure that the evidence is obtain will be excluded from the court case,
better known as the exclusionary rule. Between the dawn and the intermediate of the 20th century,
the exclusionary rule obstruct illegal seized evidence from the federal courts, all of sudden, in
1961 the well known case that revolves around the exclusionary rule, Mapp v. Ohio, was applied to
state courts and as a result, federal supervision under states search and seizureguideline

Concert Report Two concerts I attended this semester were Steve Aoki and Datsik and The Brown
Bag Series. Although two completely different music styles, they were both fun to attend and
interesting to think about when considering their musical elements. Steve Aoki is an American
electro house musician, record producer and founder of Dim Mak Record. Datsik is a Dubstep DJ
and music producer from British Columbia, Canada. The Brown Bag Series was an instrumental
concert consisting of six people, one being Professor Golove, who played instruments such as the
cello, the double bass, and the piano. Steve Aoki and Datsik brought their tour Deadmeat to Buffalo

A lot of the notes are often shuffled notes which mainly comes from jazz influenced music, where
they would be referred to as swing. According to John Mello, a shuffle note is a practice in which
some notes with equal written time values are performed with unequal durations, usually as
alternating long and short. The tempo of dubstep is almost always in the range of 138 142 beats
per minute, with a clap or snare usually inserted every third beat in a bar. House music is an upbeat
and dance oriented style of music. This concert consisted of non stop dancing and everyone
going wild. One big characteristic of electro house music is that it features a drop in every song
or several times in a song. The music will be playing at a slow or medium speed and then all of
the sudden the beat drops into a powerful, unpredictable beat. These drops come off really well in
a live performance and usually make the crowed respond by dancing intensely. Electro house tracks
usually range from 5 to 6 minutes in length with a gradual build up beat which makes it easier to
synch the current song with the next song. The difference with electro house music and dubstep
compared to other music genres

Lymes Your Dog: What you Need to Know!
Lymes disease is present here in Nova Scotia and has also affected humans and dogs in different
parts of North America. It is one of the most common tick causing symptoms however only 5
10% of dogs are affected showing different forms of the disease. Living in Lunenburg Queens
County (NS), there seems to be a higher population of deer ticks, as well as other parts of the
province. The deer ticks are the primary carrier of the disease. A tickcarrying the bacteria
(B.burgdorferi) that can cause Lyme disease can transmit it to a dog after filling itself with blood,
which takes at least 48 hours. Even if it is attached for 48 hours, the dog may not contract the
disease.

recipe Liane Ferraro mixture TICK REPELLENT FOR DOGS:
40 drops of Eucalyptus
1.5 Cups of White Vinegar
2 drops of dish soap (it helps blend the ingredients)
Вј Cup of water.
DIRECTIONS:
Spray generously, daily, before going out until the coat is nice and damp. Spray in hand and rub
mixture on the head and ears of your dog. Avoid contact with the eyes and muzzle.
You can add lavender oil (10 20 drops), and/or tea tree oil(10 20 drops) to the mixture. I just use
the simple recipe above and so far, it s working great. Before I started to apply this mixture, my
dog was indeed getting ticks, and since using this, there hasn t been any!

Finding Truth In The Mainstream Media Bias
Viewers are the puppets and Journalists are the puppet masters. Finding truth in the media is
difficult because of all the false information given. Journalist tend to give one sided views when
reporting news. Major news sources only give information that supports their side. Current
events have proven that a person can not believe one news sources to validate a claim. Viewers
are blinded by their bias and need to have a more broad view. In order to find the truth in
journalism, the viewer has to be open minded. The viewer has to go to multiple news sources in

Bacon s Rebellion Analysis
The elderly Berkeley had some secret scheme in mind, having governing Virginia since 1641, he
wanted to maintain an alliances relationship with friendly neighboring Natives tribes and uses them
as the buffers while fighting the Susquehannocks war, and in fact maintaining his fur trade
monopoly. On the other side, Bacon and his followers, the discontented Virginians blamed the
Natives, friendly or not, for all their problems. Theirs viewed of the Susquehannocks war as an
opportunity to solve all their problems at once, for good.
Not being able to convince the Governor for the commission he felt warranted, Bacon secretly fled
Jamestown only to returned later with five or six hundred armed men and marched directly to
where Governor and the Council were in the meeting. In the meantime, the news flock Jamestown
with more raids and murder of the settlers committed by the Natives. Having his men surrounded
the building, Bacon presented himself before the Council, alleged that had not his commission been
tardy for so long, the war against the Natives might have done. Feeling insulted and resentful by

Investigating the History of the Universe and the Big Bang...
Investigating the History of the Universe and the Big Bang Theory
The Big Bang theory is a theory that states that the universe originated as a single mass, which
subsequently exploded. The entire universe was once all in a hot and dense ball, but about 20
million years ago, it exploded. This explosion hurled material all over the place and all mater
and space was created at that point in time. The gas that was hurled out cooled and became our
stellar system. A red shift is a shift towards longer wavelengths of celestial objects. An example
of this is the Doppler shift. Doppler shift is what makes a car sound lower pitched as it moves
further away. As it turns out, a special version of this everyday life effect applies to light as... Show

Life Cycle of a Star
A star is born in a high density nebula and condenses into gas and dust and contracts under its
own gravity. Next, a region of condensing matter will begin to heat up and star to glow, forming
protostars. The temperature at this point is 5 million degrees centigrade. When this temperature
is reached, hydrogen fuses and forms helium. A star then begins to release energy which causes
it to contract and shine. After millions of years, the core of the star which is helium, contracts
and a reaction begins to occur in a shell around the core. The core is at a high enough
temperature for helium to form into carbon and the out layer of the star expands, cools and
becomes less bright. The core then burns out and the outer layer leaves the core as a gaseous
shell. The rest of the core cools and becomes a white dwarf and is less bright. When the white
dwarf stops shining, it is called a black dwarf.
Every now and then, a large star reaching the end of its life collapses in on itself, and then
explodes very violently. The star explodes so violently that for a few weeks the star can out shine
its parent galaxy. This type of explosion is known as a supernova. Neutron stars form during a
supernova.
What is a nebula?
Nebula are clouds of gas and dust many light years across. They can be formed by dying stars as in
supernova remnants or planetary nebula. They can be formed by young stars just emerging from
their nurseries and beginning to

England which closed the Boston harbor. The Massachusetts Government Act was to regulate
government in Massachusetts. This act also prohibited special town meetings in order to

The Psychological Assessment Practitioners
As stated by Foxcroft (2011) the psychological assessment practitioners core ethical responsibility
is that nothing should be done during testing and assessment to harm the client, and that it is their
responsibility to follow ethical practices so that the test takers can perceive the assessment to be
fair and beneficial. This discussion will be covering ethical issues in psychological assessment with
an emphasis on the South African context. We will look at what a psychological test is, what ethics

psychological act with regards to assessment is the use of measures to assess mental, cognitive, or
behavioural processes and functioning, intellectual functioning, aptitude, personality etc. Only
registered psychologists are allowed to perform psychological acts, and the tests devised may only

Love Medicine Chapter 18 Summary
Foster brings up rebirth again through the idea of baptism within chapter 18 of his novel. He
starts off by defining what Baptism is and how it is the symbolic death and rebirth of a certain
person. Foster states that drowning is a type of symbolic baptism because the character would
come back up and be reborn. He explains how this is representing a form of rebirth where the
character who is being baptized is leaving behind their old life and gaining a new one. Other
forms of symbolic baptism that Foster mentions are traveling on water such as oceans and rivers.
Some people don t want to survive the drowning and he shows this by explaining the story Love

You can see how the rain chapter is correlated through this one because it even states that rain is
able to baptize and have some sort of purity. The other chapter is the Biblical one because
Baptism is obviously something relating to the religion of Christianity and has been used in the
religion traditionally. However, when these two chapters mix together it does emphasize many
points. It doesn t only show that rain can baptize but other things are able to also. I m going to
bring up the story Lord of the Flies because, again, it has many symbols relating to the Bible and
religion. When the story begins, we notice that a plane full of English boys is headed towards
army training or some sort of recruitment. However, the plane crashes and ends up on an island.
Here we can assume that everyone on that plane has died. That assumption is somewhat right

and on an island where they don t know anything. They don t know how to survive at all when
stranded and they are like babies that need help from their mother. However, they do learn and
eventually create a small society with enemies and such. With the plane crash, we are able to see
how baptism can be symbolized by anything in

Holistic Management Part One: British Airways and Further International Expansion of their
Luxury Brand Company Profile and Problem British Airways is one of the airline brands in the
world and the company has been operating (under different names and forms of ownership) since
1919 (British Airways, 2012). In its earliest incarnation, the airline was an international carrier
which began by offering service from London to Paris. Operations changed over the years as the
company was nationalized in 1939 and then re privatized in the 1980 s, but the focus remained
international flights (British Airways, 2012). Due to the fact that the people of Great Britain were
interested in some of the most exotic locations in the world, British Airways has always tried to
deliver routes that can take passengers from Heathrow to any destination in the world. However,
any of these routes are unprofitable, and sense the government was no longer subsidizing the airline
as heavily, new means of finding and maintaining these routes had to be explored. In recent years,
British Airways, and other airlines, have realized that to maximize the number of destinations that
they could service, they had to work together. In some cases this meant merging with other airlines,
but for many airlines it meant that exclusive partnership agreements were reached that would allow
customers to reach a destination flying different airlines, but with a lower cost because of these
types of agreements. British

I.NEEDS STATEMENT
Children who live in extreme poverty or who live below the poverty line for multiple years appear,
all other things being equal, to suffer the worst outcomes Income poverty is the condition of not
having enough income to meet basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter. Because children are
dependent on others, they enter or avoid poverty by virtue of their family s economic circumstances.
Children cannot alter family conditions by themselves, at least until they approach adulthood

Archaeology provides material evidence such as coins, pottery, brooches, metalwork, sculpture,
inscriptions, architecture, roads, villas, military camps, forts, temples, tombs, graves, weapons, etc.
Studying the remnants of ruins and the discovered artefacts teaches one more about the people who
created and used them more quickly and efficiently than studying literary sources. These can help
us to understand how people in civilisations accomplished certain things, such as how the Athenian
democratic constitution worked and survived as long as it did. Furthermore, material evidence also
helps us to better understand the literary sources and even more clearly visualise some of the

Satirical Device Of Dehumanization In Jonathan Swift s A...
Child Devouring Ogres:
Examining the Satirical Device of Dehumanization in Jonathan Swift s A Modest Proposal Satire
produces a distortion of reality that enlightens its readers about the unadmirable traits of society
by using irony and humour (Snodgrass 406). A Modest Proposal, written by Jonathan Swift in
1729, presents a satirical proposal through an anonymous proposer. The proposal argues that in
order to deal with the poverty and overpopulation in Ireland, the children of the poor should be
sold as food to the wealthy. It advocates that the benefits include an increase in the income of the
poor and in Ireland s economy. Swift s A Modest Proposalhas been analyzed by various scholars
many of which have analyzed Swift s persona and his critique of Ireland s economic conditions.
However, there has been little scholarly discussion on Swift s satirical method in the text, which
uses cannibalism and dehumanization. Many scholars such as Oliver W. Ferguson s Swift s
Saeva Indignatio and A Modest Proposal focus on Swift s anger towards the social classes in
Ireland; and other scholars such as Thomas Lockwood s Swift s Modest Proposal: An
Interpretation focus on the role of the anonymous proposer. Rather than focusing on the effect of
the proposal on the contemporary audience, these scholars choose to look at the text from Swift s
view and do not consider the audience s reaction. An investigation into the satirical form that Swift
uses will be useful to discern the impact of the proposal on the public and the message it
presented. This essay will attempt to address this gap by using close reading and historical
evidence to explore the text s satire through the use of cannibalism and dehumanization. By using
the satirical device of dehumanization to commodify the poor people of Ireland, Swift challenges
the prevailing mercantilist theory of the population being the nation s riches . The problem will be
investigated with a study of the contemporary mercantilist thought, a close reading of the use of
dehumanization in the text and the proposer s tone. In the eighteenth century, the prevailing
economic thought was mercantilism. Mercantilism advocated that people are the riches of a nation
(Wallerstein 25).

Honey Bee Virulence Report
Discussion With this information, it can help build the foundations needed to find anti virulence
factors against P. larvae to reduce the need for antibiotics. The current treatments options available
for AFB are becoming progressively obsolete due to antibiotic resistance. Honey bee colonies are
constantly exposed to these antibiotics until approximately two weeks before the honey is collected
(Caron and Connor, 2013). As mentioned previously, this is the only effective way of killing the
vegetative cells, but not the spores. The spores still persist within the colony and once the
bacterium becomes resistant to treatment, it results in disastrous outcomes (Caron and Connor,
2013). Therefore, treatments that could neutralize these virulence factors should be sought after.
Also, with the use of antibiotics, there are possibilities of toxic residues being found in the honey.
This could take a devastating toll on the individuals who consume this hive product. Therefore, the
need for natural treatments are becoming popular because of regulations related... Show more

It provides the necessary knowledge of whether or not honey bee larvae can survive and develop in
a laboratory setting. Once possible treatment options begin to emerge, the uninfected larvae could
be exposed to these alternatives. These larvae can be observed for any anomalies throughout the
developmental period to determine the effects of these potential treatments. Unfortunately, during
the experimental process none of the larvae made it to the adult stage in the control plate. This was
partly due to the development of mold during the larval stage. With the elevated humidity levels
and the presence of condensation within the incubator, it provided optimal conditions for mold
growth. The mold caused undesirable larval death for almost half of the larvae; therefore, it may

Advantages And Disadvantages Of FDMA
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a design for multiple antenna full duplex (FD) eNodeB (eNB)
and user equipment (UE) transceiver, based on recent progress in the area of self interference
cancellation (SIC). For FD communication, .i.e., simultaneous in band uplink and downlink
operation, same subcarriers are allocated to UE in both uplink and downlink. Hence, contrary to
traditional LTE, we propose using single carrier frequency division multiple accesses (SC FDMA)
for downlink along with the conventional method of using it for uplink. Taking advantage of
channel reciprocity in the case of FD communication and multiple antennas at eNB, use of singular
value decomposition (SVD) in the downlink allows multiple user (MU) to operate... Show more

Athletic Training Summary
Athletic training is a growing field and predicted to have a 37% increase in jobs by 2018
(Bowman Dodge, 2013 pg. 79). Although this field is growing, some frustrations from graduates
about the educational programs have been on the rise. This article discusses what could be a
contributing factor to these frustrations and possible solutions to alleviate them. Bowman and
Dodge s assessment of these factors provides helpful insight as to why athletic trainers are
dissatisfied with their jobs, however, the article has several components that are not done well.
Bowman and Dodge s argument about frustrations in graduate ATEPs, athletic trainingeducation
programs, was supported in these ways: organization, specific chosen ATEPs, and the interview...

Because I am a student athletic trainer, I can relate to the frustrations that some of the participants
expressed. I also found it very interesting that the article included a section about low
compensation. Bowman and Dodge stated in the article that the amount of complaints about
low compensation are in the minority, and this could be one of the reasons that more has not
been done to increase the compensation for athletic trainers. The article also discussed that the
NATA was doing more to help with increasing the pay, but more people are needed to bring the
topic to a larger issue. I also found the article helpful in that I am currently looking for schools to
attend for a master s in athletic training. This article has helped me realize that I need to look at
more than financials and requirements of a program when I look into different schools. While
these are important things to consider, I now know to be aware of what I don t want in a
program, to look at the professors and their backgrounds and evaluations, the BOC passing or
failing rates, and the classroom/clinical expectations and academic load on the students. I will
continue with this topic, but I d like to move the topic towards compensation. The experience that I
have, although little, is enough to make me curious as to why athletic trainers get paid so little
when they do so much for an

Compare How Two Common Pressures Affecting Children s Demands
Two common pressures that can tear at marriages are the demands of careers and the demands
of children s schedules. In today s society we see much less emphasis placed on family first and
more focus and energy going into carrier demands and activities. We work hard and we play
hard. Many of today careers seem to require longer hours, more work travel, more expectations
from employers, etc. I ve see so many where work has become their highest priority, even over
their families because they feel the financial pressure to make money. I ve seen a pattern in couples
who feel like they need to do whatever it takes for their careers and sacrifice, many times without
being aware, healthy boundaries to protect their relationship with each

Analysis Of The Quiet Screams Of The Horror Blockbuster
A discussion about the strong interest in thrilling movies is both tantalizing and more academic
than one may think. In a story, Why We Crave Horror Movies, by Stephen King the interest lies
in the psychology behind horror movies. However, the article, The Quiet Screams of the: Horror
Blockbuster, in SCREEN EDUCATION relates to how the filmmakers incorporate specific
elements to create an experience. There are many noticeable similarities and differences
between a story and a related article about why humanity desires to watch horror movies. Both
the story and the article indicate that the evil essence in scary films makes the viewer feel more
normal. The story gives an example of the audience, not being the most alluring of the human
species, but none of the viewers will ever be anything like the true repulsiveness sometimes seen
on the silver screen. In the article, however, a point is made that there may be no evil being, or
horrendous picture to compare oneself against in order to feel more average. It is merely the
atmosphere of the motion picture that creates a sense of fear. The SCREEN EDUCATION
article, written in April 2017, goes in depth explaining how fear is circumstantial and how a
monstrous agency is unnecessary. instead that horror is that which invokes the frightening and
provokes fear on the part of the audience... no monstrous agency need be present (3). The article
explains how a scary movie can rely simply on build up and can still be considered a

Long-term Recall of Traumatic Experiences Essays
On the morning of September 11, 2001, exactly at 9:22 a.m., I woke up to start my day and turned
my television on. Instantly, Fox News had reported that a commercial plane had smashed into the
Twin Towers of New York City, just minutes earlier. While the story was certainly shocking, I
wanted to know more and watched the horrific aftermath unfold, as it continued to happen. I
remember an incredible feeling of sadness that I could do nothing to help the people in these
buildings, as well as a great concern that more attempts could be made to create further tragedy
elsewhere.
As time went on that morning, sketchy pieces of information about rescue plans and other efforts
came to light; screen shots of the downtown devastation permeated ... Show more content on

As mentioned earlier, for example, the images of the second plane flying into the building will
surely stay with me; however, smaller details of the incident, which have become generalized
over the years, are not nearly as clear or in order like they were on the day they happened. This is
not at all surprising, since according to Perina (2002), flashbulb memories do, in fact, degrade
over a short period of time (para. 1). The extent to which these events fade or change in our
thoughts can vary in degree, and is generally believed to be directly proportionate to a person s
level of involvement in the events that occurred.
How accurate is this memory now? Although, according to my recollections, much of that morning
seems to be more precisely recorded and recalled than other events I have experienced, further
indications are that this may not be so, for research shows that... supposed flashbulb memories are
not necessarily any more accurate than other memories (ScienCentral, 2007, para. 6). To easily
illustrate these findings, minor details, which were a part of my memory during or shortly after the
attacks, have since been forgotten. Examples of such information are: names of rescuers and
firemen mentioned during broadcasts, flight numbers of the planes used in the tragedy, and the
identities of the passengers aboard each plane. On the other hand, disasters do seem to affect a
person s ability to remember a number of significant details, which under

Principles behind the Growth Process of Thin Films
CHAPTER 2: BACKGROUND Deposition and characterization of the thin films discussed in
Chapter 1 will require an understanding of many different tools and processes that are currently
used in the semiconductor industry today. This chapter will cover the principles behind the growth
process, the experimentation and the material properties. The equipment used for these processes
will be discussed in depth as well.
2.1 Equipment The equipment used in the deposition of thin films can vary widely depending on
what material is being grown. Different deposition techniques affect different material properties,
such as: index of refraction, surface roughness, crystallinity, film quality and many others [VLSI,
Seshan]. The two main techniques are physical vapor deposition (PVD) and chemical vapor
deposition (CVD). These techniques are used for different materials and different processes and
CVD is the deposition technique this thesis focuses on. These techniques are implemented in
different deposition systems with many different features and they have a wide range of
applications. After the material is grown, the parameters of the material need to be characterized.
This requires a complete understanding of the tools which are being operated. Different tools are
necessary to determine the different important parameters of a material such as: reactive ion
etchers, ellipsometers, atomic force microscopes, and x ray diffraction spectroscopes. An
inductively coupled plasma reactive ion

Finance Major Essay
The definition of finance is rather complex but Merriam Webster seems to provide the most
comprehensive explanation, stating, the management of revenues; the conduct or transaction of
money matters generally, especially those affecting the public, as in the fields of banking and
investment (Merriam Webster). The management of revenues is essentially the core of what
separates the jobs of finance majors, compared to other business related majors such as accounting
and economics. While accountants identify where the money comes from, the finance people
identify how to best use that money. While economic majors study how to grow the entire
economy of a country, finance majors study how to value a company. The reason behind my
decision to pursue a major in finance is because I want to study how to manage money in a
company and the role companies play in affecting the banking system. Also, I am convinced that
majoring in finance is one of the most effective and efficient ways in becoming a successful
entrepreneur. As a finance major, I can only study; as a successful entrepreneur, I will be equipped
with the resources to improve the lives of hundreds if not thousands of people. According to

continues to be one of the country s leading regions for high tech
innovation and development, accounting for about one third of all venture capital investment in the

The Power Of Thinking Without Thinking By Malcolm Gladwell
Books are the most easily driven routes toward education. They present themselves differently to
different readers. We learn by what the dark words say on the bright pages. Authors that write
traditional textbooks are not really singled out in terms of recognition among individuals. However,
authors that talk to their readers but teach them simultaneously in books are the ones we tend to
think about and respect more. Malcolm Gladwell is a stellar example of the latter. This essay will
contain my findings on Malcolm Gladwell and his literature.
Malcolm Gladwell is a journalist, an author, and a public speaker. He s been a staff writer for The
New Yorker since he was 33. He has been featured in Time Magazine s 100 Most Influential
People . Malcolm Gladwell graduated the University of Toronto s Trinity College with a history
degree in 1984. In 2005, he published a book that would not only be one of his best sellers, but
would also inspire others to study psychology. The name of that book is called : Blink; The Power
of Thinking Without Thinking.
Blink s overall synopsis contains a tactic that we use to make decisions everyday called thin
slicing. Gladwell often describes thin slicing as a decision made based on our undetected
subconscious opinions and biases. He shines a light of the fact that those decisions are often made
within two seconds and that our subconscious is a locked door. He relates thin slicing to mind
reading based on our memory of facial expressions and

lessons. Krishna specifically discusses dharma, karma, and how to obtain liberation from samsara.
Krishnais a powerful god and confidant to Arjunaduring a time of war and chaos. Arjuna, however,

Krishna repeats this importance of dharma because it is needed to balance the karma in people s
lives. Obtaining a respectable balance in life and working off karma can eventually lead to a soul

explaining how a person may be released from the continuous cycle of death and rebirth. He tells
Arjuna that someone must be selfless and detached from the material world in order to obtain
complete liberation. They must also ignore their own egos and focus on the divine instead. Krishna
declares that men who always follow my thought, trusting it without finding fault, are freed even by
their actions (Gita, 45). People must find God in all of their actions and turn this into a way of

Groupname is where you put in the specific name of the group. If you don t specify additional

The narrator describes near death experiences due to hunger and dehydration, the power of
mother nature and how the sea destroyed their ship. Survival instincts forced the crew to resort to
cannibalism for their survival before they finally landed on a tropical island where they were met
by natives who were intimidated by the white skinned strangers. The meeting of the civilized
sailors and the uncivilized natives described very different people who did not trust each other.
When the natives killed most of the sailors, Poe illustrates the similarity and primitive side of all
people as they kill for their own protection and survival. Pym managed to escape the island together
with Peters and the novel ends as they near the South Pole, leaving the conclusion to the
imagination of the reader.
Edgar Allan Poe portrayed various themes throughout the novel. However, the main theme that
stood out was that of survival. Arthur Gordon Pym describes in his writings how he managed to
stay alive on board the Grampus after the mutiny that occurred and after the massive storm that
nearly destroyed the ship, tearing the sails, breaking the mast, and flooding the hold. All four men

The Importance Of Term Limits Of Judges
Recorder Philip Cattan, a respected Manchester barrister who sits as a judge part time, was seen
to nod off as ran under aged victim answered questions from the defense (Ollie Mcateer
September 21st 2015). The Supreme Court is a very important part to our U.S government. The
court decides the legality of our laws, and how lives are effected by them: therefore we need to
have active and healthier judges that have some experience and know what they are doing.

had when they were young once they hit a certain age. They can also get diagnosed with a
sickness such as amnesia which can cause you to lose your memory fairly easy. Health issues can
really tamper with how you preform and results can end up bad.... Show more content on

  • 2. The Debate Of Banning The Death Penalty Public Executions The United States has been going through the debate of banning the death penalty for decades; however, it continues to remain at a standstill as crime rates continue to stay the same throughout the country. The people for continuing the death penalty happens to see their group split in to two groups. One for the private executions and the other for public. Public executions can do many things like deter crimes from happening, giving the victims closure, and finding the right kind of execution method that is inexpensive and once used throughout history. The ability to deter crimes with the method of public execution is one we should not waste. It leaves everyone with the knowledge that there is nothing to keep them from being the next one on the chopping block so to speak, especially if they have committed such a crimeto deserve the sentence. It takes removes this mindset that the public has come to grasp that everything does not have a consequence for the actions they take. The scare factor works brilliantly in this regard, holding the public to a line they know not to cross. With the line drawn, the number of convicts in the prisonsystem would decrease. This will also free up taxpayers money for other things like education, medical, security, and paying off the national debt. Secondly, this would bring closer to the families, as well as, friends and acquaintances of the victim. This type of execution would give everyone the benefit of seeing ... • 3. Examples Of Opposition In Anthem By Ayn Rand Opposition in Society The society in which the characters from Anthem by Ayn Rand live in is one of little to no opposition. The World Council made rules at their own discretion and the citizens followed them without question. The big question, though, is why. Why did the citizens mindlessly follow the rules and restrictions of the World Council? The citizens of this futuristic society followed their leaders because they were suppressed. They were trained to believe that the World Council was smarter than them, they were lied to about their jobs and the common good, and anyone who thought differently was punished. These three things are seen in several places throughout the novel, highlighting how much the citizens in the futuristic society of Anthem were suppressed in order for the State to remain in power. In the first chapter of the novel, readers see that, at an early age, the citizens of the society are taught to think nothing of themselves and more of the World Council. Equality tells us of his childhood in the Home of the Students where they were required to say the following every day, We are nothing. Mankind is all. By the... By telling the students this, the teachers were instilling the lies in them that whatever they were assigned was needed by the citizens. Although two completely different music styles, they were both fun to attend and interesting to think about when considering their musical elements. Steve Aoki is an American electro house musician, record producer and founder of Dim Mak Record. Datsik is a Dubstep DJ and music producer from British Columbia, Canada. The Brown Bag Series was an instrumental concert consisting of six people, one being Professor Golove, who played instruments such as the cello, the double bass, and the piano. A lot of the notes are often shuffled notes which mainly comes from jazz influenced music, where they would be referred to as swing. According to John Mello, a shuffle note is a practice in which some notes with equal written time values are performed with unequal durations, usually as alternating long and short. The tempo of dubstep is almost always in the range of 138 142 beats per minute, with a clap or snare usually inserted every third beat in a bar. House music is an upbeat and dance oriented style of music. This concert consisted of non stop dancing and everyone going wild. One big characteristic of electro house music is that it features a drop in every song or several times in a song. The music will be playing at a slow or medium speed and then all of the sudden the beat drops into a powerful, unpredictable beat. These drops come off really well in a live performance and usually make the crowed respond by dancing intensely. Electro house tracks usually range from 5 to 6 minutes in length with a gradual build up beat which makes it easier to synch the current song with the next song. The difference with electro house music and dubstep compared to other music genres ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Investigating the History of the Universe and the Big Bang Theory The Big Bang theory is a theory that states that the universe originated as a single mass, which subsequently exploded. Life Cycle of a Star A star is born in a high density nebula and condenses into gas and dust and contracts under its own gravity. Next, a region of condensing matter will begin to heat up and star to glow, forming protostars. The temperature at this point is 5 million degrees centigrade. When this temperature is reached, hydrogen fuses and forms helium. A star then begins to release energy which causes it to contract and shine. After millions of years, the core of the star which is helium, contracts and a reaction begins to occur in a shell around the core. The core is at a high enough temperature for helium to form into carbon and the out layer of the star expands, cools and becomes less bright. The core then burns out and the outer layer leaves the core as a gaseous shell. The rest of the core cools and becomes a white dwarf and is less bright. When the white dwarf stops shining, it is called a black dwarf. Every now and then, a large star reaching the end of its life collapses in on itself, and then explodes very violently. The star explodes so violently that for a few weeks the star can out shine its parent galaxy. This type of explosion is known as a supernova. Neutron stars form during a supernova. What is a nebula? Holistic Management Part One: British Airways and Further International Expansion of their Luxury Brand Company Profile and Problem British Airways is one of the airline brands in the world and the company has been operating (under different names and forms of ownership) since 1919 (British Airways, 2012). In its earliest incarnation, the airline was an international carrier which began by offering service from London to Paris. Operations changed over the years as the company was nationalized in 1939 and then re privatized in the 1980 s, but the focus remained international flights (British Airways, 2012). Due to the fact that the people of Great Britain were interested in some of the most exotic locations in the world, British Airways has always tried to deliver routes that can take passengers from Heathrow to any destination in the world. However, any of these routes are unprofitable, and sense the government was no longer subsidizing the airline as heavily, new means of finding and maintaining these routes had to be explored. • 20. Satirical Device Of Dehumanization In Jonathan Swift s A... Child Devouring Ogres: Examining the Satirical Device of Dehumanization in Jonathan Swift s A Modest Proposal Satire produces a distortion of reality that enlightens its readers about the unadmirable traits of society by using irony and humour (Snodgrass 406). A Modest Proposal, written by Jonathan Swift in 1729, presents a satirical proposal through an anonymous proposer. The proposal argues that in order to deal with the poverty and overpopulation in Ireland, the children of the poor should be sold as food to the wealthy. It advocates that the benefits include an increase in the income of the poor and in Ireland s economy. Swift s A Modest Proposalhas been analyzed by various scholars many of which have analyzed Swift s persona and his critique of Ireland s economic conditions. However, there has been little scholarly discussion on Swift s satirical method in the text, which uses cannibalism and dehumanization. Many scholars such as Oliver W. Ferguson s Swift s Saeva Indignatio and A Modest Proposal focus on Swift s anger towards the social classes in Ireland; and other scholars such as Thomas Lockwood s Swift s Modest Proposal: An Interpretation focus on the role of the anonymous proposer. Rather than focusing on the effect of the proposal on the contemporary audience, these scholars choose to look at the text from Swift s view and do not consider the audience s reaction. An investigation into the satirical form that Swift uses will be useful to discern the impact of the proposal on the public and the message it presented. This essay will attempt to address this gap by using close reading and historical evidence to explore the text s satire through the use of cannibalism and dehumanization. By using the satirical device of dehumanization to commodify the poor people of Ireland, Swift challenges the prevailing mercantilist theory of the population being the nation s riches . The problem will be investigated with a study of the contemporary mercantilist thought, a close reading of the use of dehumanization in the text and the proposer s tone. In the eighteenth century, the prevailing economic thought was mercantilism. Mercantilism advocated that people are the riches of a nation (Wallerstein 25). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The current treatments options available for AFB are becoming progressively obsolete due to antibiotic resistance. Honey bee colonies are constantly exposed to these antibiotics until approximately two weeks before the honey is collected (Caron and Connor, 2013). As mentioned previously, this is the only effective way of killing the vegetative cells, but not the spores. The spores still persist within the colony and once the bacterium becomes resistant to treatment, it results in disastrous outcomes (Caron and Connor, 2013). Therefore, treatments that could neutralize these virulence factors should be sought after. Also, with the use of antibiotics, there are possibilities of toxic residues being found in the honey. While the story was certainly shocking, I wanted to know more and watched the horrific aftermath unfold, as it continued to happen. I remember an incredible feeling of sadness that I could do nothing to help the people in these buildings, as well as a great concern that more attempts could be made to create further tragedy elsewhere. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As mentioned earlier, for example, the images of the second plane flying into the building will surely stay with me; however, smaller details of the incident, which have become generalized over the years, are not nearly as clear or in order like they were on the day they happened. This is not at all surprising, since according to Perina (2002), flashbulb memories do, in fact, degrade over a short period of time (para. 1). The extent to which these events fade or change in our thoughts can vary in degree, and is generally believed to be directly proportionate to a person s level of involvement in the events that occurred. How accurate is this memory now? Although, according to my recollections, much of that morning seems to be more precisely recorded and recalled than other events I have experienced, further indications are that this may not be so, for research shows that... supposed flashbulb memories are not necessarily any more accurate than other memories (ScienCentral, 2007, para. 6). • 27. Principles behind the Growth Process of Thin Films CHAPTER 2: BACKGROUND Deposition and characterization of the thin films discussed in Chapter 1 will require an understanding of many different tools and processes that are currently used in the semiconductor industry today. This chapter will cover the principles behind the growth process, the experimentation and the material properties. The equipment used for these processes will be discussed in depth as well. 2.1 Equipment The equipment used in the deposition of thin films can vary widely depending on what material is being grown. Different deposition techniques affect different material properties, such as: index of refraction, surface roughness, crystallinity, film quality and many others [VLSI, Seshan]. The two main techniques are physical vapor deposition (PVD) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD). These techniques are used for different materials and different processes and CVD is the deposition technique this thesis focuses on. These techniques are implemented in different deposition systems with many different features and they have a wide range of applications. After the material is grown, the parameters of the material need to be characterized. This requires a complete understanding of the tools which are being operated. Different tools are necessary to determine the different important parameters of a material such as: reactive ion etchers, ellipsometers, atomic force microscopes, and x ray diffraction spectroscopes. An inductively coupled plasma reactive ion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Finance Major Essay The definition of finance is rather complex but Merriam Webster seems to provide the most comprehensive explanation, stating, the management of revenues; the conduct or transaction of money matters generally, especially those affecting the public, as in the fields of banking and investment (Merriam Webster). The management of revenues is essentially the core of what separates the jobs of finance majors, compared to other business related majors such as accounting and economics. While accountants identify where the money comes from, the finance people identify how to best use that money. While economic majors study how to grow the entire economy of a country, finance majors study how to value a company. The reason behind my decision to pursue a major in finance is because I want to study how to manage money in a company and the role companies play in affecting the banking system. Also, I am convinced that majoring in finance is one of the most effective and efficient ways in becoming a successful entrepreneur. As a finance major, I can only study; as a successful entrepreneur, I will be equipped with the resources to improve the lives of hundreds if not thousands of people. • 29. The Power Of Thinking Without Thinking By Malcolm Gladwell Books are the most easily driven routes toward education. They present themselves differently to different readers. We learn by what the dark words say on the bright pages. Authors that write traditional textbooks are not really singled out in terms of recognition among individuals. However, authors that talk to their readers but teach them simultaneously in books are the ones we tend to think about and respect more. Malcolm Gladwell is a stellar example of the latter. This essay will contain my findings on Malcolm Gladwell and his literature. Malcolm Gladwell is a journalist, an author, and a public speaker. He s been a staff writer for The New Yorker since he was 33. He has been featured in Time Magazine s 100 Most Influential People . Malcolm Gladwell graduated the University of Toronto s Trinity College with a history degree in 1984. In 2005, he published a book that would not only be one of his best sellers, but would also inspire others to study psychology. The name of that book is called : Blink; The Power of Thinking Without Thinking. Blink s overall synopsis contains a tactic that we use to make decisions everyday called thin slicing. Gladwell often describes thin slicing as a decision made based on our undetected subconscious opinions and biases. He shines a light of the fact that those decisions are often made within two seconds and that our subconscious is a locked door. He relates thin slicing to mind reading based on our memory of facial expressions and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Krishna spends a significant amount of time in the Bhagavad Gita explaining how a person may be released from the continuous cycle of death and rebirth.
