What Are The Causes Of The Haitian Revolution
In 1791, the Haitian Revolution began. This revolution was the largest slave rebellion in the
western hemisphere. Since the start of forced slavery in the Caribbean, there have been many
resistance against slavery, revolutions and revolts. Haiti had the most successful in the Caribbean
and by the year 1804 slaverywas demolished. The results of this revolution have produced a
historical memorial that has influenced civil right movements all over the world up to this day.
Such a revolution and its effect must have been considered a surprise and an ordinary rebellion that
could have been overrun at the time it began. However, circumstances in the Haitian society such as
the social hierarchy, ill treatment of slaves and the French revolution,... Show more content on

After the rumours of the ill treatment of enslaves in the colonies, the French government was
aiming to enforce laws to increase the working conditions that enslaves of St. Dominique were
working under. Thus, white planters wanted a form of independence because they didn t agree
with the laws that the government were putting in place. They thought that their way of treating
enslaves was the best to get the most amount of effort from enslaves. Although the free people of
colour were members of a free and educated propertied class the system prevented them from
occupying many public headquarters because of their colour. In addition, they were forced to
join the French military which most was hesitant to do. Even though they were still struggling
for full rights of citizenship, the concept of the equality embedded in the doctrine of The Rights
of Man attracted them. Some of these free d colour even made voyages to France to speak on
behalf of enslaves for its ending. Some of the poor whites hated the fact that did were not
financially stable and coloured people were treated better than them. The bitterness in slaves grew
because there was still abuse. In such a society no one could have lived in peace, so tension grew

Enzyme Rate Lab Report

The 6В°C had a rate of 0.133 kPa/sec for Trial 1 and 0.0015 kPa/sec for Trial 2, which averages out
to 0.06725 kPa/sec. The 24В°C had a rate of 0.083 kPa/sec for Trial 1 and 0.001 kPa/sec for Trial
2, producing an overall average of 0.042 kPa/sec. The 34В°C had a rate of 0.014 kPa/sec for Trial 1
and 0.0008 kPa/sec for Trial 2, which averages out to 0.0074 kPa/sec. In 46В°C, both trials resulted
in 0.00 kPa/sec, producing an average of 0.00 kPa/sec. Compared to 24В°C, 34В°C, and 46В°C,
the 6В°C had the highest rate of enzyme activity. At 46В°C, there is no rate of enzyme activity. The
graph presents a direct relationship between the temperature and rate of enzyme activity. The line of
best fits shows that as temperature increases, the rate of enzyme activity decreases.
Conclusion:
If the enzyme is placed in higher temperatures than its optimal temperature, then the rate of enzyme
activity will decrease or possibly denature. This hypothesis is proven correct throughout the
experiment results and findings. In this experiment, once the enzyme was placed in a temperature
beyond its optimal temperature of 37В°C, the enzyme denatured. This ... Show more content on

more variables in the experiment will make it easier to see the trend on a graph. Having freezing
temperature to very hot temperatures will help determine the optimal temperature of an enzyme, at
what temperature the enzyme denatures, and how the enzyme rate of activity changes throughout
the temperature range. Another scenario that could have been done differently to improve the

Masculinity Brokeback Mountain Essay
The raison d etre of the Western is arguably to celebrate masculinity, but Brokeback Mountain is a
revisionary Western that challenges definitions of masculinity. Discuss this statement with
reference to Jane Marie Gaines s and Charlotte Cornelia Herzog s comments on the homoeroticism
of the Western.
The Western genre is undoubtedly one that is governed by the traditional male hero and its
masculine stereotypes. Rarely does the genre break away from this mould, however Ang Lee s
renowned film Brokeback Mountain defies the set expectations of the Western and its celebration of
masculinity. The film depicts the tragic love between the two central characters Ennis del Mar and
Jack Twist , set against the backdrop of the American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Noticeably, Jack Twist almost always wears these two colours throughout the entirety of the film.
Between the two male leads, Twist is most obviously more effeminate than the hard exterior
portrayed by del Mar s character. The introduction of Lureen shows her wearing vibrant scarlet
clothing or red lipstick. This is presented as a more masculine colour illustrating Lureen as a strong,
independent woman. It is also observed that Lureen maintained the business and that her father
constantly questioned Jack s ability as a man . The opening scene is significant, as it positions the
viewer to immediately understand the characterisations of each male lead and provides a glimpse
into the future development of their relationship. Stenning Edgecombe claims,
From the different attitudes the camera had toward their bodies in the opening sequence, to the
economies of looks and talk between them, to their different sexual positions and experiences, this
act masculinised Ennis while feminised Jack (2007)
The contrast between the two characters is most evident, and though there is no dialogue, their
body language highlights the different roles in which they play. Ennis leans against the trailer,
hands buried deep into his pockets, with his head bowed low. While Jack attends to his physical
appearance with shaving, while they both somewhat cautiously surveyed one

The reason why this is the way to go is that relational databases are limited in the number of
relationships that can be dug down and analyzed. Using a dimensional model will allow the use
of multi dimensional cubes to be able to pull 3 or more dimensions back into a pivot table. An
example would be Sales by customer service rep by assigned sales territory. This provides a
deeper detail of data than you would be able to get out of a relational database. For each
department of the university, I propose a Data mart for each one. The reason why this is the
case is so that every department can manipulate their own data as they see fit with their own
resources because it is on a different server than another data mart typically. The look and feel of
the Data Mart is up to that department and does not bother the other departments Data Marts.
Individual data marts can also increase response time because there are not as many people
hitting them all at one time. If a new department were to pop up, data mart creation is very easy
to do. Each record will be unique based on the primary or composite keys of the table, and those
keys could be surrogate keys such as using AutoNumber like in Microsoft Access. Depending on the
analysis of the data, it may be determined that the ID numbers between student and teacher are
unique and this can be the way to link items together throughout the database. The

Loss Of Children In The Stone Boy By Gina Berriault
The Stone Boy
Way too often we see kids who are neglected emotionally after a tragic event, and how negatively
it effects them later on. It forces them to give up their innocent childhood. That is exactly what
happens in Gina Berriault s short story The Stone Boy . The story is about a 9 year old boy who
accidently shoots his older brother dead. The boy shows no emotion, whatsoever, and it is clear the
grownups do not understand him, so he is labeled with words like cruel . He does not understand
his feelings and he loses his identity when his mother rejects him in a way no mother should. So he
is left alone, beginning to believe that he is actually cruel.

When the accident happens, we see Arnold go into some state of shock and his actions after this
point are described as mechanically . This is a way for Arnold to shut off his feelings so he does
not have to feel the great grief of the loss of his brother. The Sheriff and the parents misinterpret
his way of dealing with his sorrow, and instead they label the boy as cruel. Arnold is already in
between identities because of the accident, which threw him out of the childish innocence, so he
needs his parent s guidance and comfort more than ever. He is very insecure, and in the interview,
he relies completely on his father s answers. However, when his parents believe he is cruel, he
thinks it must be right, so he takes on this new identity.
This new identity is described in the title as the stone boy , but this is not at all the boy we meet in
the beginning, so Arnold goes through quite a change in the short story.
There is also a transformation in Arnold s identity from day to night. In the daytime, we see a kid
who does not show any emotions. He does not seem to regret his brother s

The Fourteenth Amendment s Due Process Clause Bars...
Judge Simon Skinner and Judge Leslie Tiller are judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the
Eighth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, respectively. Each judge
has an involved history with Minnesota s governor, Joyce Cooper. In this paper, I address whether
the Fourteenth Amendment s Due Process Clause bars Skinner and Tiller from hearing two unique
cases to which Cooper is a party. I conclude that, for both judges in both cases, it does not.
***
I begin with the relationship between Judge Skinner and Governor Cooper, who are related in two
ways, one significant and the other less so. First, and less significantly, Cooper taught Skinner
construction law at Minnesota s flagship law school. Skinner would later own a construction
company of his own, NWA Construction. Upon his confirmation to the 8th Circuit, Skinner sold the
company, in its entirety, to his son.
More significantly, Cooper, then serving as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, actively
lobbied to confirm Skinner to the 8th Circuit after his nomination. Cooper contacted all other
members of the Senate, promising them gratitude and a yay vote on a future federal judge
nominee for a yay vote on Skinner s confirmation. Cooper even targeted 51 other Senators, for
whom she held fundraisers that raised $58,000 per Senator. These fundraisers occurred
immediately before the Senate s vote on Skinner s confirmation, and all 51 Senators for whom
Cooper fundraised and Cooper

The Quarrel Between Two Princes

Professor Mufti
13 February 2015 Paper # 1: Close Reading ?Sometimes the quarrel between two princes is to
decide which of them shall dispossess a third of his dominions, where neither of them pretend to
any right. Sometimes one prince quarreleth with one another; for fear the other should quarrel with
him. Sometimes a war is entered upon, because the enemy is too strong, and sometimes because
he is too weak. Sometimes our neighbors want the things which we have, or have the things
which we want; and we will both fight, til they take ours or give us theirs. It is a very justifiable
cause of war to invade a country after the people have been wasted by famine, destroyed by
pestilence, or embroiled by factions amongst themselves. It is justifiable to enter into a war
against our nearest ally, when one of his towns lie convenient to us, or a territory or land, that
would render our dominions round and compact. If a prince send forces into a nation, where the
people are poor and ignorant, he may lawfully put half of them to death, and make slaves of the
rest, in order to civilize and reduce them from their barbarous way of living.? (Swift 2602). This
quotation comes from the middle of chapter five, part four of Gulliver?s Travels, by Johnathon
Swift, as Gulliver begins explaining the state of England to the master Houyhnhnm, and more
specifically, why princes in England go to war with one another. This passage is of particular import

Gender Role Expectations On College Students
Education is a huge factor affecting women s job placement. From a young age, gender role
expectations are taught to students through books, televisions, advertisements, and adult social
interactions (Etaugh Liss 129 130). These gender role expectations are extremely institutionalized
but currently, women have made strides to have a greater representation at the college level. The
percentage of women (68%) between the ages of 18 to 24 enrolled in college, exceeds that of
men, which is 66% since 1990 (Parrillo 441). Even amongst minority groups, women have a larger
presence on college campuses. Even though women are not the minority in college, they are still
minorities in the science majors and overrepresented in majors required for more

The Development of AI in The AI Revolution is on by...
When the earth began there was no life, it was a world of fire and oceans of lava, after
thousands of year s life began in the ocean and soon came onto land. The land creatures
developed into dinosaurs which ruled the world for thousands of years until a meteor wiped
them out and a great ice age came. Once the ice age ended monkeys came and from them
humans. We have been around for two thousand years and now we have created artificial
intelligence which is becoming more and more integrated into our ever increasingly
complicated world to make it simpler but have humans also created the next cycle of evolution?
The AI Revolution is on by Steven Levy is about Artificial intelligence (AI). Levy writes about
how the AI came around and how it affects our daily life. Levy explains impeccably how its
developers strayed away from imitating human intelligence, and how it is integrated into our
society. Levy has been reporting on digital technology for over twenty five years and his articles
have been published in many distinguished magazines according to Writing and Reading Across
the Curriculum. Levy s article begins by talking about how robots are used in ware houses that
are linked to a main computer that tells the robots what they need to get. The ware house is
organized in small groups of products spread out threw out it, this way the robots don t have to
travel as far to get the product but to a human it looks like a random pile or stuff that isn t sorted at
all. Levy goes on

The Competitive Forces Challenging Hertz
External Analysis Based on the results of Porter s model, the following are the competitive forces
challenging Hertz (Appendix A). Competitive Forces Firstly, Hertz faces low threat of entry from
the competitors. As Hertz serves in the car rental and equipment rental industry it has low barriers
to entry due to need of excessive amount of startup cost and through product differentiation. With
the company s excellent economy of scale the new entrants might find difficult to survive. By
aiming at the product differentiate Hertz gained very good customer loyalty which new entrants
might lack. To initiate a rental business one needs to have good financial resources. The likelihood
of achieving profit in the rental industry may serve as a low barrier to the new entrants. Secondly,
Hertz also faces the threat of substitutes. There are other platforms such as train, taxi, bus shuttle
that consumer uses as the means of transport. Due to heavy competition in the car rental and
equipment rental industry, consumers are attracted towards the other rental services which offer
similar products with low prices. For example, Avis provides excellent customer service with low
price on its car rental and United Rental provides equipment rental service at lower price. This can
make the Hertz rental business less useful. This can affect the overall attractiveness of the industry.
Thirdly, Hertz suffers high bargaining power from the buyers as it is dependent on the customer s

A Review On Coaching And Mentoring
Text Purpose
This book is a comprehensive review of coaching and mentoring and how it can be implemented in
a variety of settings and for multiple purposes. It is evidenced based and requires the reader to think
differently about coaching and mentoring. The authors go beyond the research in challenging the
reader to pay attention to the wider implications of coaching and mentoring. In the second part of
the book, there are strategies to overcome and embrace influences that can affect the coaching and
mentoring process. This book is ideal for anyone wanting the research behind coaching and

Part Two consists of the regulatory and practice issues found in coaching and mentoring. A
thorough review of the influence of power, the development and learning networks, the use of
technology, and the organizational issues such as purpose and goal orientation in coaching and
mentoring are developed throughout this section. Part Three focuses on the practice of supervision
and standards while exploring some of the contemporary diversity issues facing coaching and
mentoring. Part Four brings together all the above topics and moves toward a theory of coaching
and mentoring. This section concludes with a review of the emerging concerns from coaching and
mentoring.
The authors point out that the history of mentoring is extensive and began with a more mature and
experienced person engaging in a relationship with a less experienced person. The central purpose
of both coaching and mentoring is to transfer specific knowledge and skills from one to the other
with the intent of fostering independence (Garvey, Stokes, Megginson, 2014). Garvey et al., (2014)
distinguish the difference between coaching and mentoring. According to the authors, coaching is
the act of facilitating and mentoring is the practice of giving advice and expert recommendations
(Garvey et al., 2014). The authors believe that coaches listen, ask questions, and enable mentees to
discover for themselves what is right for them, whereas mentors talk about their personal experience

Learner Drivers Reversing In Research
Are you finding reversing a car very difficult? I mean annoyingly, frustratingly difficult? Try not to
be too disheartened because believe me you are not alone. In my experience, the majority of
learner drivers struggle with reversing at first. The main reason, I think, is that although they have
reverse gear engaged, their mind is still in forward gear! Let me explain what I mean by that.
Because it feels normal and reassuring to steer the front of the car, a lot of beginners are still trying
to do that whilst going backwards! Not surprising then that they have such problems! Can you
imagine driving forwards whilst looking out of the rear windscreen? Impossible, right? Even the
most experienced driver would struggle to do that.
So, you have to put your mind into reverse mode as well as the car. In other words, accept that the
back of your vehicle becomes in effect the front when you are ... Show more content on

2. Always steer the rear of the car however tempting it may be to look around at the front to steer.
3. Remember to look a long way behind you and not at where your rear wheels are!
If you keep in mind these important points and keep on practising I hope and believe that you
will soon start to see improvements in your reversing abilities.Once you get comfortable
reversing and steering the rear, then you will find that you can start to go a little bit faster and
even look around at the front of your vehicle. The difference is that you will not be looking in front
to steer but only to check that your car is not causing problems for any other road user as you start
to turn.

Reflection On Family Relationship
In this skills session my client brought her relationship with her mother and her feelings about
that relationship. She brought feelings of sadness hurt upset and grief . She states early in the
session I m constantly searching for some sort of love and affection from her . She describes
feeling neglected and disregarded by her mother and the rest of her family. She admits that these
feelings have stretched into the rest of her life and have left her feeling unworthy not good
enough and like she doesn t matter . She states that she feels not worthy of affection or care or
regard . My client was questioning why her mother behaves the way she does towards her. She
finds her mother s behaviour difficult to understand and feels she doesn t understand where it s
coming from . During the session my client describes her mother s behaviour in a particular
scenario when she felt her mother behaved differently when she had an audience to play to. My
client described feeling ganged up on by her mother, who was backed up by her visiting
relatives. It is clear my client wants a relationship with her mother and states this clearly when
asked. She is seeking answers what is going on , what is going on with this attitude? My client
states that she has suffered with feelings of being unworthy for most of her life and suffered a
nervous breakdown two years ago after which she sought help from counselling and her GP.
Considering what I have outlined above it would appear that my client s feelings of being
unworthy and of not being good enough arise from feeling that she doesn t matter to, or is
disregarded by her mother and other family members. It would appear that my client s evaluation
of her self worth or self esteem has been affected by her close family relationships. Carl Rogers
(1959, p200 p223) describes the development of the self concept (how an individual perceives
themselves) and how this self concept is heavily influenced by the conditions of self worth set out
by others. Conditions of worth are constraints or preconditions, which an individual perceives are
placed upon them by individuals external to them. The individual believes that these preconditions

The Effects Of Alcohol Abuse On The Body
Alcohol abuse can also cause short term effects to the body. Although there are many different
short term effects, the most common happens to be a hangover which is a group of symptoms
experienced by a person after a heavy consumption of alcohol (Alcoholic 1). Symptoms of a
hangover often consist of nausea, fatigue, thirst, headache, diarrhea, and sensitivity to light and
noise. The severity of a hangoverdepends on several factors; these factors include the amount of
alcoholconsumed, the level of hydration in the body at the time of alcohol consumption, and
disease. Although hangovers are the most common short term effect, blackouts are also a short term
result of alcohol abuse. Consuming large amounts of alcohol can lead to temporary amnesia
where the person is unable to recall events that occurred after he or she began drinking.
Unfortunately, blackouts can lead to serious repercussions, especially if the person is engaged in
sexual activity during that time. Blackouts are much more common among social drinkers than
previously assumed and should be viewed as a potential consequence of acute intoxication
regardless of age (National 1). Drinkers who experience blackouts typically drink too much and
too quickly, which causes their blood alcohol levels to rise very rapidly. Typically, college
students are at risk for experiencing a blackout, as an alarming number of college students engage
in binge drinking. Even though these short term effects do not seem as bad as the

Ancient Greek And Roman Empires Essay
Most of the history of the past that is known today has been gathered from primary sources of
the times of interest such as original documents and objects. It is through these sources that
historians are able to gain an in depth, and maybe sometimes biased, view into the lives of the
people of the time and what was going on in the period. Despite being two vastly different genres
of primary sources, Cicero s letters and Homer s epic poem The Odyssey, give some of the best
ideas into life for the ancient Greek and Roman empires. Through analysis of these two works,
some key similarities and differences of how both empires functioned are brought to light.
During Odysseus s travels and Cicero s exile, both dreamt of nothing but being able to return
home to the place they belonged. Calypso, who had been keeping Odysseus on her island for
several years, in an attempt to get him to stay with her even tries to tempt Odysseus with
immortality and warns him of the troubles he will have attempting to return and upon arriving
(Odyssey 72 73). Despite this temptation and the warning, Odysseus says: My thought full
Penelopeia, beside you, is not so tall or striking to look at. The lady will die; you are undying and
ageless. Even so I go on longing all of my days here to sail back home, to see that homecoming
light. (Odyssey 73)
Despite the pleasures he may have and the troubles he may avoid by staying with Calypso,
Odysseus still desires nothing more than to return

Kathmandu is a historic site that demonstrates the art of metallurgy through its ornaments in the

is regarded by countries as an opportunity to expand their economy. According to Borona and
Ndiema (2014), it helps to boost employments, investments as well as the growth of local business.
In addition, they conclude that place identity of the community members grows in line with their
pride in heritage. Besides, Vong (2015) interviewed Macau youths for evaluating the mediating
effect of place identity of Macau youths in cultural tourism corresponding to their place attachment.
It was found that their place identity grows with their perception about heritage conservation in
Macau. Similarly, it appears to apply to less concentration of historic environment when local
residents perceive something special to them (English Heritage, 2009). Therefore, heritage
conservation contributes social cohesion which favours the sustainability of the society. Cultural
tourism obtains the support of the community because their interests are secured. In general,
cultural tourism not only restores the historic structures but also promotes the investments on
cultural values (Borona Ndiema, 2014). Naumov (2015) emphasizes that the involvement of people

Better Than Hum Why Robots Will-And Must Take Our Jobs
Nearly all jobs, blue and white collar alike, will eventually be automated by a worker who never
makes mistakes, never needs to stop working, and can learn faster than any human alive. This is
the future we face, according to Kevin Kelly, writer of Better Than Human: Why Robots Will
And Must Take Our Jobs. Kelly discusses the future of machines doing our work for us. Kelly
believes that all jobs currently occupied by humans will eventually be taken over by machines, and
humans will benefit from the results. While Kelly presents engaging arguments, his examples and
writing style are ineffective in fully demonstrating his view of automation in the workplace. One
flawed example Kelly uses to prove his point is the use of autopilot on an airliner, saying that the
pilot is largely unnecessary because the autopilot is perfectly capable... Show more content on

He even addresses the reader ( Dear Reader ) directly to tell them that their job will certainly be
taken over by machines, whether they like it or not. Even though the article is meant to be
educational, its nature is almost taunting. Kelly s article, white thought provoking, makes
sweeping generalizations and talks down on the reader, both of which weaken his argument.
While reading, I wondered if the career path I want to go into, automotive design, could be
automated. The thing with automotive design is that it s such a delicate blend of art and hard
science. A computer could already design a car to be perfectly aerodynamic and generate the
perfect amount of downforce, but cars are still designed by humans, because people can insert
graceful (cosmetic) design motifs and aggressive body lines that a computer wouldn t bother with.
Computers have a specific way of tackling problems, and to assume that that way of problem
solving would apply to nearly every career out there is simply

Joan De Agnes A Hero
Heroes come from all backgrounds. They are renowned or unknown, great or minor.
They span across various ages and nationalities and might rise from any situation. What mark them
as incredible individuals, worthy of being called heroes, are the defining qualities that compel
them to rise above the mundane. All heroes require some level of courage and perseverance, as
well as the defining trait of a hero: selflessness.
In history, there have been countless heroes who braved the battlefield and found recognition
through their feats of heroic courage. One of the most notable in Catholic culture is Joan de Arc,
the Maid of Orleans. Although this hero was only a farm girl, at the age of thirteen she began

Force Awakens Vs Rogue One Analysis
#1 Draft Pick: Force Awakens Over Rogue One When you think of the number one draft pick,
the majority of the time football comes to mind. Well, this is not in this case. The number one
draft is the Star Wars movie which is the seventh movie in the series. That one fairs far better
than the antithetical film Rogue One. The Force Awakens occurs thirty years after the Galactic
Empire is defeated. The galaxy is faced with a new threat from an evil villain named Kylo Ren
and also the First Order which is a military dictatorship. A defector stormtrooper FN2817 also
known as Finn escapes the realm of the darkside and Kylo Ren. He ends up on Tatooine, which is

For both movies, it is a little confusing in the beginning because of the new characters in the
beginning of the movies and you just jump right into the plot line. The Force Awakens plot line
seems to make more sense throughout the movie and it s easier to understand if you have
watched the other movies. It has the same characters as the previous movies but there are a few
new characters. In The Force Awakens, the movie takes place at least 20 years after Return of
the Jedi. Princess Leia and Han Solo have a son together, and becomes evi. Rogue One has new
characters in it and doesn t fit as well as it should because of the new characters, which makes it
a little more complicated to follow along with since there is a lot of new characters to keep track
of. When watching the movies, watching them in order by movie number is ideal. Rogue One fits
in after the Empire Strikes Back and before Return of the Jedi because the plot line places the
movie in that time period. The Force Awakens fits in after Return of the Jedi because that is what
the timeline places the movie

Solomon Asch Conformity Study
In 1951, Solomon Asch, a gestalt psychologist conducted an experiment regarding conformity. In
this experiment, Asch tested how an individual can be influenced by a group of people and their
views. Even though the test wasn t extremely crucial. The purpose was to measure how likely
individuals in this society are to conform to the majority. Throughout the experiment, Asch saw
how an individual responded based on the answers of the group. With this, he was able to
demonstrate how likely we are to conform when there is group pressure.
In this experiment, Asch conducted a lab to test the conformity of the participants. All fifty of the
participants were males and students from a college in the United States. To be able to identify
the percentage of individuals that could conform to the thoughts and ideas of the majority, Asch
had to deceive the participants. The experiment involved seven confederates, most of them had
agreed on what they were going to say before the experiment unlike the real participant. In each
of the trials, both the participants and the confederates were shown cards one would be a single
line, while the other was a card with a set of lines. The participants and the confederates were to
pick a line that looked like the single line on the other card. However, the participant would usually
be the second to last to answer. Asch... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of LaocoпїЅn And His Sons
Mussels twisting in agony, fans savagely piercing the flesh, faces drowning in suffering. This
intense visual is shockingly manifested through marble in the sculpture Laocoön and His Sons by
Hagesandros, Polydoros, and Athenodoros of Rhodes. This alluring orchestra of artistic elements is
the perfect compilation of technical perfection and emotional expression. The exaggerated drama
of the piece is the style of the Greek s Hellenistic period. All things considered, Laocoön and His
Sons possesses both exquisite formal components and content and has the ability to provide insight
into both the culture of the Greeks, as well as the attitudes of humanity withholds towards enemies.
To commence, the formal composition of Laocoön and His Sons is enticing. The piece is carved
in marblewith a height of eight feet. The marble white hue of the statue seems to accentuate the
detailed anatomy of the figures. The three males are placed upon a base. On one of the far sides
of the base, there resides a pillar style seating with drapery which hangs off in a waterfall like
motion. The central figure, and by far the most substantial in size, Laocoön, seats at an angular
position. This angular position creates a dynamic composition. His two sons, Antiphantes and
Thymbraeus, struggle at his side as sea serpents attach all three the figures. There appears to be
two sea serpents, one who is notably digging its fangs into Laocoön s hip. Moreover, a significant
aspect of the piece is that

Our Town Analysis Essay
Our Town is a play that takes place near the turn of the century in the small rural town of Grover
amp;#8217;s Corners, New Hampshire. The playwright, Thornton Wilder is trying to convey the
importance of the little, often unnoticed things in life. Throughout the first two acts he builds a
scenario, which allows the third act to show that we as humans often run through life oblivious to
what is actually happening. Wilderattempts to show life as something that we take for granted. We
do not realize the true value of living until we are dead and gone. The through line of the action
seems to be attention to the details of life. Wilder builds up a plot that pays attention to great details
of living.

While at the funeral, the living members of the cast all have umbrellas above their heads. The
dead members sit in chairs imitating graves, and are rained upon. The symbolism represented by
the umbrellas could be that the living are sheltered from the light of reality and importance. Only
when you are dead do you notice that there was more to it, and the umbrella that you held while it
was raining is taken away, allowing you to be opened up to a whole new light of realization.

I Have A Good Idea Of My Stress

been more prone to become stressed, due to my anxiety. Therefore, stress is a big obstacle in my
life, and it is something that I need to find a way to deal with, especially now that I have begun
to attend college. Because I have dealt with anxiety before, I have a good idea of my stress
level. My stress levels can become very high, and as a result, I have several ways of dealing with
stress. As a result, I am familiar with some of the techniques mentioned in the textbook. For
example, exercising has always been an effective stress technique for me. As mentioned in the
textbook, performing exercises such as running and walking on a regular basis has been an
effective way for me to reduce stress. However, the textbook has also introduced me to new
techniques to helpmanage my stress, as well as ways to improve techniques I already use. One of
these new techniques is eatinghealthy. Prior to reading the text, I never considered that my eating
habits would affect my stress levels. However, after reading through the text, I can definitely see
how my eating habits and stress levels affect each other. After evaluating my eating habits, I
noticed that I do not eat healthy when I am stressed. When I become stressed or have an important
event coming up, such having a test or a paper due, I tend to skip meals like breakfast and lunch,
and instead eat smaller snacks of foods such as candy

After reading this first page, I was intrigued by Mr. Lockwood s character. He missed all the
obvious signs that Heathcliff did not want to invite him into his home, that he was not comfortable
speaking to him or that he had an unfriendly nature. Lockwood, who comes from a more
domesticated region of England finds himself in a less sociable area. My impression is that
Lockwood is interested about the people and about the setting, he wishes to learn more about them
by how he shows curiosity.
I felt interested in a man who seemed more exaggeratedly reserved than myself.
Once Lockwood has been granted permission, grudgingly by Heathcliff, he enters his house. He
encounters an incident with some of
Heathcliff s dogs, although Heathcliff did warn him about them, to which he pulls faces provoking
them to attack him, to which neither
Heathcliff or the servant Joseph seems to bother about. Fortunately for Lockwood, a female servant
comes and shoos the dogs away.
Although Lockwood is not injured, he appears to sulk in a childish manner, resulting in Healthcliff
making up for this incident when he sees how angry Lockwood is. Wine is offered, and a
conversation is brought about. Lockwood s foolish character analysis and bad judgement of
Heathcliff prompts him to think of returning to
Thrushcross Grange the next day,

Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Horror Genre Essay
Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Horror Genre Typically the Horror or more specifically
Vampire genre will have the theme good vs. evil where the hero represents good and the villain
represents evil. This is consistent in Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Buffy is the hero and the evil
vampires she slays (in this episode Glory/Ben) represent evil. There is also a clichГ© within this
genre where good is always triumphant over evil. Buffy in this episode conforms to this clichГ©
but with a twist; which is also typical of the Genre, good triumphs over evil in the end but not
without a sacrifice. Although Buffy contains many of the conventions that are typical of the horror
genre it also contains many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is something unusual about the villain in this episode of Buffy in so much as she has
taken on the body of an innocent teenage boy called Ben meaning Buffy faces a moral dilemma
(moral dilemmas are typical of this genre) when trying to eradicate Glory s threat. Buffy decides
she cannot take a human life (Ben) even if it ensures the safety of the world proving her to be a
hero that holds a strong grip on her morals. However, another group member ; Giles who from
his appearance looks clever takes a different course of action to the problem; he decides the only
way is to kill Glory/Ben and with this he slowly suffocates the severely injured Ben . This
provides the audience with a tear jerking moment. Typical stock characters of a horror film
include Vampires, Goblins, Zombies and innocent Victims. In this episode of Buffy we see only
one of these stock characters: Goblins. The Goblins are typically ugly looking creatures who have
hunchbacks and green skin as in this episode of Buffy. They are loyal to their mistress and help
her to fight Buffy and her friends. Stereotypically the horror genre will contain a twist at the end.
Buffy conforms to this in her tragic death, she saves Dawn but not without a sacrifice. As Buffy

Positive And Positive Aspects Of A Positive School
Introduction
A positive school climate is essential. Schools with a positive climate tend to have less discipline
problems. In addition, positive climates can encourage positive development, as well as promote
academic motivation and engagement. This, in turn leads to fewer absences and improvements in
academic achievement.
Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) is a prevention oriented way for school
personnel to organize evidence based practices, improve their implementation of those practices,
and maximize academic and social behavior outcomes for students. (PBIS: Positive Behavioral
Interventions Supports, 2015)
Creating a system that recognizes and appreciates positive behavior is a key part of maintaining a
positive school climate.
Participants
Teams identified at the school will consist of an administrator, counselor, lead teacher, and PBIS
coordinator or other student services coordinator. Substitutions for team members are permitted
except for the school administrator.
Teams, with the assistance of a facilitator from the School Safety Resource Center, the Anti
Defamation League or the Colorado Education Initiative, would work through data and decide on a
plan of action.
After receiving the necessary training, the selected team would then present material to school staff
and monitor progress throughout the school year through staff evaluations and student and parent
surveys.

The Curious Case of Dax Cowart Essay example
The concept of autonomy in the medical practice brings many different views. Autonomy is the
ability individuals have to be self governing. In these different views there exist two schools of
thought, one is the belief that people are born with the ability to do what they want their body and
no organization can tell them what to do with their body, like the government. On the other hand,
some people believe that it is more complicated and conditional on mental competency so that
person can make rational decisions. However, the majority of people seem to advocate for
autonomy. A particular largely uncontroversial discussion arises with the case of Dax Cowart, who
had his right to autonomy taken from him in a tragic accident and is... Show more content on

We came to this decision because we felt that if a few professional psychiatrist can render him
mentally competent than he should be allowed to make his own decisions because it is moral.
This is moral because people should be allowed to do what they want with their body, and as
Cowart says it is, the right to control your own body is a right you re born with... (Cowart 2).
However, this is refuted when that person cannot make rational decisions because that person
would be mentally incompetent. People that are mentally incompetent are incapable of making
decisions that are in their best interest. We also discussed his mother and how all she cared about
is for him to receive treatment which we thought was a bit selfish. This is a typical parental
perspective considering that parents do not want to outlive their children. However, she should
have sought out what was best for him and what he was going to be happy with and not her. As a
group we also felt that he should have received better pain treatment especially since Cowart found
out later that they could have done more for his treatment. If someone is in as much pain as he was
and when a doctor is confronted with the request to die, that doctor should be doing everything he
or she can to bring down the pain. My decision was that he should not receive the treatment because
no matter how you look at it you cannot argue with autonomy as long as that person is competent.
However, I

Life During The Renaissance Era
The renaissance was a period of rapid change in many European countries. The constant struggle
between Catholicism and Protestantism alone created a country torn between both political and
spiritual ideologies. As different kings and queens came into power, many were forced to change
ideologies simply based on the beliefs of these monarchs. During this time, literature was used as a
way to protest these ideologies. The works of Edmund Spenser, author of The Faerie Queene, Sir
Thomas More, author of Utopia, the records of Anne Askew s burning, From the First
Examination of Anne Askew and John Foxe s Acts and Monuments, provide insight into the
political climate of spiritual reform in the renaissance era. These authors critiqued life during the
renaissance and used their writings to protest the old ways, encouraging England to abandon its
Catholic roots in favor of Protestantism. Sir Thomas More s radical ideas portrayed in Utopia
help lay the foundation for the religious reformation in England. In order to bring about this
reform, More creates a fictional utopia where he addresses the problems he has with England s
current state of being. In the analysis of More s fictional character Raphael Hythloday s, his trip to
Utopia draws a parallel with reforming England, including transitioning England from Catholicism
to Protestantism. According to Hythloday, on the island of Utopia, they believe in the idea of a
God but, different people define him differently, and each supposes

The Theory Of Evolution Within Tennessee Public Schools
On March 13, 1925 the state of Tennessee passed the Butler Act. This law prohibited teaching the
Theory of Evolution in Tennessee public schools. Any teacher who taught a theory that denied
the story of the Divine Creation would be punished by a fine. The American Civil Liberties
Union offered legal defense to any Tennessee teacher who would break the law and fight it in

Bryan had run as the Democratic presidential candidate three times, and he was the fundamentalist

the Dayton s streets became more and more crowded and I saw many preachers with revival tents,

Findings of tuberculosis in the homeless population are no surprise, as this specific population has a

Several studies have found a significant positive relationship between these variables and a strong

Analysis Of Legally Blonde
In the acclaimed 2001 film, Legally Blonde, the main character, Elle Woods, is a fantastic
feminine icon for females. The film represents the struggle of women to prove their ability.
Remarkably, Elle never succumbs to those who so strongly see her as being stupid. While others
put down her abilities and intelligence, Elle hardly ever doubts herself. She moves through the
world with pure confidence. As Callahan, a law professor at Harvard who later selects Elle Woods
for his internship quips, it s as if she just woke up one day and said, I m going to law school. She
decides on a goal and knows she can attain it, even if others only respond with incredulity or
mockery. Legally Blonde has many positive depictions of women and femininity for a 2001 film.
Elle doesn t fit the misogynist prospect of submissive femininity. She is loud, emotional, and
flamboyant. When she enters a room with the clacking of her bright pink heels, Chihuahua in arm,
beaming and effusive, you cannot ignore her. Elle s bubbliness and enthusiasm is often disdained,
especially in the legal world, but she continues to express her true self. She is unapologetic about
being attractive, sexual and caring about her appearance. She does not stop being stereotypically
girly despite that it makes others think she is less legitimate and intelligent. She proves that sexy
and smart are not opposing forces. Elle is the perfect example of how being feminine does not mean
you submit to patriarchal notion of submissiveness.
One of the fundamental themes in Legally Blonde is that a female having an ardor for fashion
does not make her dim witted and that fashion insight is not an immanently futile form of
knowledge. Elle s fashion knowledge is introduced when a retailer labels her as a dumb blonde, and
tries to take advantage of her by ripping off the last season sale tag and selling it to her for full
price. Did you see this one? We just got it in yesterday. the retailer told her. Slyly, she asks Is this
a low viscosity rayon with half loop top stitching on the hem?. Why yes, it s one of a kind, the
retailer replied. Elle uses her fashion knowledge and wittily replies It s impossible to use a half
loop topstitch on low viscosity rayon.

The Greatest Nation
America is well known for being the land of opportunities, the land of freedom, land of diversity,
and overall, the land of success. However, the title of being The Greatest Nation didn t come to
America so easily. It surely is a challenge to make of the United States of America the ideal nation
that Thomas Jeffersonenvisioned. For this reason, the constitution emphasizes the guidelines that
one must follow in order to be an ideal American. In the Bill of Rights, James Madison remarks
the 10 basic amendments that America needs to follow in order to maintain its values. To be an
ideal American, one must understand the vision of the founding fathers. It is understandable to
conclude that The Bill of Rights is a set of guidelines that make up an ideal American. Therefore,
what truly defines an ideal American is being able to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In America, you are entitled to your own beliefs as well as guaranteed your rights unlike other
countries. In third world countries you are not able to speak your mind. You are restricted while
here in America induvial are able to fight in what you believe in. You need to also contribute to
the improvement of the nation. This refers to the idea that one must take advantage of the
opportunities that America offers to all its citizens. If one is able to succeed with the tools that
this land has to offer and is willing to give back, we can conclude that a person deserves to be
called an ideal American. In The Vision of the Founding Fathers by Myron Magnet, the article
illustrates how reading the bible was very influential. Magnet mentions that the founding fathers
assumed that individuals had some type of connection with god. This belief created the idea of
individualism as well as responsibility amongst people. The Bill of Rights are heavenly influenced

Massage In Diabetic Patients
In massage therapy today, massage is considered a way to improve poor circulation in the lower
limbs of diabetic patients (Rattray 1015). However, persistent inflammation also contributes to
diabetic feet (Armstrong). A modality that can address both inflammation and poor circulation
would be ideal.
Cold hydrotherapy could be that modality. Brief cold exposure leads to vasodilation and thus
increased blood flow (Daanan). Plus, that vasodilation follows a period of vasoconstriction
(Daanan), which reduces the inflammatory response (Rattray 71). That means that the increased
blood flow caused by the cold induced vasodilation (CIVD) has fewer inflammatory factors in it
(Dulian). In that case, cold foot baths could simultaneously prevent the degeneration ... Show more

The literature also supports using CIVD to treat diabetic patients (Armstrong), but there was
mixed support for CIVD s impact on blood flow. None of the studies directly measured the impact
of CIVD on blood flow in diabetic patients.
Impact on hypothesis. The literature review inspired this paper s hypothesis: none of the studies
directly addressed CIVD and blood flow in diabetic patients even though it s a promising topic.
CIVD and blood flow. According to Daanen s literature review, [c]old induced vasodilation
(CIVD) in the fingertips generally occurs 5 10 min after the start of local cold exposure of the
extremities. However, Gregson et al found that no difference in femoral artery conductance 30
minutes after immersion of healthy patients lower limbs in cold water for 10 minutes. (Buy
Daanen. Why the discrepancy?)
GSM and blood flow. Massage significantly increases blood flow in healthy adults. Wood and
Becker found that deep stoking and kneading of the calf doubled the rate of blood flow for forty
minutes in healthy adults (26). Goats article confirmed that forceful massage in a healthy adult
increases both local blood flow and cardiac stroke volume

The Murray Darling Basin (MDD)
The Murray Darling River Basin: The Basin can be found in South Eastern Australia and mostly
in the New South Wales, with a hot semi arid North and North East and a warm semi arid South
due to the proximity of the Southern Pacific Ocean ( About The Murray Darling Basin , 2016);
vegetation consists of mostly small shrubs and sparse to semi dense trees. The two largest rivers
are the Murray and the Darling. They both find headwaters in the Australian Alps, along with
other tributaries which flow into the basin, and are influenced by seasonal rainfall but also the
La Nina and El Nino oceanic patterns. The basin itself is a flat plain located on what is known as
the Murray Darling Depression (MDD). The plain as it is roughly seen today was created about 50
60 million years ago the region was a shallow sea; but the region had been a shallow see many
times before this, as sea levels have risen and fallen over the past few hundreds of millions of
years. As a recent the tertiary and quaternary sediment deposits found here can be up to 600m
thick (NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, 2003). Inflow of water to the plains is... Show

Another interesting issue is the carp that were introduced to the dams by fisherman ( General
information about carp biology, ecology and impacts | NSW Department of Primary Industries ,

rapidly and lower the water quality. The carp are also suspected of coming from fisherman who
used them as live bait. There is now an eradication plan underway using daughterless carp (The
Australian Government, 2012). The plan entails introducing genetically modified carp into the
ecosystem that only produce male off spring, thus in theory slowly eradicating the

My Favorite Quote Analysis
My favorite quote will always be by Sappho in which she says, Someone, I tell you, in another
time will remember us. She was right. She s remembered for being a gay poet and is
immortalized despite a lot of her works not being found completely. It s one of my favorite
quotes because identifying as a nonbinary queer person who also likes girls, I can relate to
Sappho a lot when she writes about her desire for love and personal heartbreaks. This quote also
brings me ease as even in another time someone will still remember me. I think we all want to leave
a legacy of some sort, and for me I want my legacy to be centered around my experience and
accomplishments as an American born Punjabi artist and social activist, who was also highly
active in the LGBTQ+ community. I want someone to remember me because it is a vicious
cycle that people of color and members of the color in the LGBTQ+ community get forgotten in
history. History is white washed. But the idea that I will do enough in my life to be remembered
in some shape or form, reminds me that my efforts and failures as a Punjabi artist and social
activist are just part of a legacy I am starting.
Moving on, my strength and determination did not magically appear one day. I had a lot of
amazing people who are a part of my support network who helped show me what healthy self
love and growth is supposed to be. One of the people I will be highlighting is my AP English
teacher. Candice Ligator, was one of the best, and one of my favorite teachers in my high school
career. She was a big part of my support system when it came to being a trans and queer student
who had a lot of family issues. She was also a big inspiration to me as she told us stories full of
struggles growing as a teacher. She talked about how starting off as a teacher at first made her
cry every night, showing me that it takes persistence to be adept in a profession. Her choices on
the pieces of literature she taught were engaging as they touched upon feminism, gay rights, and
race. This allowed me to explore both my interest in writing and in social justice. Reading about
personal experiences from Mary Shelley, Oscar Wilde, and Ralph Ellison was inspiring as it
allowed me to see that I can

Let s Take Football Players
Let s take football players, for instance. During the season many are told to bulk up or gain

are eating many more calories than necessary and are often eating the wrong foods. So after the
season is over the athletes have established bad habits and are carrying excess weight around. Now,
on the opposite side of the spectrum, many athletes are not eating enough. Their caloric intake is

When athletes are not properly fueled they may become fatigued, and they are more prone to illness
and injury. This will most certainly affect their performance. But there is something we can do
about this. Matzkin says that anytime a young female athlete comes to her office with shin splits or
fractures, she now asks about nutrition and menstruation. We may be able to identify the root
cause of bone mineral density problems, she says, and patients can be helped early to chart a
new course in eating. It s not just about eating enough, Matzkin says. It s also about eating the
right things like fruits, vegetables, protein and foods rich in calcium and vitamin D. It s critical
to build bone when you can, she says, because there s literally a countdown to how long women
have to build strong bones. (Patti Neighmond) Neighmond in this radio show says that it is all
about what they eat. By not fueling their bodies properly these athletes are setting themselves up
for failure. Now looking at the opposite end of the spectrum. Listening to all of the football
players talk about bulking up for the season always makes me wonder: How could that possibly

The Maltese Falcon, was not only a detective film, but a film that displayed many different aspects
of the female and the male character in the movie. The film was more than a story, but a story that
explored the ideas of the detective genre and the different characteristics of femininity and
masculinity. It also brought forth subjects of sexual desires and the greediness of money. The
characters and the visual motifs in the film contributed to the developing of the plot and assisted in
creating a more detective and gender oriented film. In the film, The Maltese Falcon, the role of men

in these cases were very distracting to the male characters in the film. Sam said to Iva, ?You

was in the way of Sam Spade?s work. Iva was seen as a suspicious character in film as well. Effie
said to Sam, ?She kept me waiting at the door while she undressed, her clothes on a chair where
she dumped her hat and coat underneath, her slip was still warm.? This quote described the

men may have a harder time trusting woman who are very feminine.
A character that Sam Spade had a hard time trusting was a woman named Brigid O?Shaughnessy,
who was also know as Miss Wonderly. Effie said to Sam, ?She?s a knockout.? Not only did Effie
and Sam Spade see that she was pretty, but so did his partner, Miles. Miles said to Sam, ?She?s

Patience Analysis
What is patience? Patience means the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering

every other pair of siblings do. We normally have very small, stupid fights over things that do not
matter. For some reason that day I did not have any patience at all and then it all happened. On a

Since the start of forced slavery in the Caribbean, there have been many resistance against slavery, revolutions and revolts. Haiti had the most successful in the Caribbean and by the year 1804 slaverywas demolished. The results of this revolution have produced a historical memorial that has influenced civil right movements all over the world up to this day. Such a revolution and its effect must have been considered a surprise and an ordinary rebellion that could have been overrun at the time it began. After the rumours of the ill treatment of enslaves in the colonies, the French government was aiming to enforce laws to increase the working conditions that enslaves of St. Dominique were working under. Thus, white planters wanted a form of independence because they didn t agree with the laws that the government were putting in place. They thought that their way of treating enslaves was the best to get the most amount of effort from enslaves. Although the free people of colour were members of a free and educated propertied class the system prevented them from occupying many public headquarters because of their colour. In addition, they were forced to join the French military which most was hesitant to do. Even though they were still struggling for full rights of citizenship, the concept of the equality embedded in the doctrine of The Rights of Man attracted them. Some of these free d colour even made voyages to France to speak on behalf of enslaves for its ending. Some of the poor whites hated the fact that did were not financially stable and coloured people were treated better than them. The bitterness in slaves grew because there was still abuse. The 24В°C had a rate of 0.083 kPa/sec for Trial 1 and 0.001 kPa/sec for Trial 2, producing an overall average of 0.042 kPa/sec. The 34В°C had a rate of 0.014 kPa/sec for Trial 1 and 0.0008 kPa/sec for Trial 2, which averages out to 0.0074 kPa/sec. In 46В°C, both trials resulted in 0.00 kPa/sec, producing an average of 0.00 kPa/sec. Compared to 24В°C, 34В°C, and 46В°C, the 6В°C had the highest rate of enzyme activity. At 46В°C, there is no rate of enzyme activity. The graph presents a direct relationship between the temperature and rate of enzyme activity. The line of best fits shows that as temperature increases, the rate of enzyme activity decreases. Conclusion: If the enzyme is placed in higher temperatures than its optimal temperature, then the rate of enzyme activity will decrease or possibly denature. This hypothesis is proven correct throughout the experiment results and findings. In this experiment, once the enzyme was placed in a temperature beyond its optimal temperature of 37В°C, the enzyme denatured. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means having a variety of different temperatures rather than just four temperatures. Having more variables in the experiment will make it easier to see the trend on a graph. Having freezing temperature to very hot temperatures will help determine the optimal temperature of an enzyme, at what temperature the enzyme denatures, and how the enzyme rate of activity changes throughout the temperature range. Another scenario that could have been done differently to improve the results of the experiment is the agitation of the yeast in test tube should have been done in a more consistent manner. • 5. Masculinity Brokeback Mountain Essay The raison d etre of the Western is arguably to celebrate masculinity, but Brokeback Mountain is a revisionary Western that challenges definitions of masculinity. Discuss this statement with reference to Jane Marie Gaines s and Charlotte Cornelia Herzog s comments on the homoeroticism of the Western. The Western genre is undoubtedly one that is governed by the traditional male hero and its masculine stereotypes. Rarely does the genre break away from this mould, however Ang Lee s renowned film Brokeback Mountain defies the set expectations of the Western and its celebration of masculinity. The film depicts the tragic love between the two central characters Ennis del Mar and Jack Twist , set against the backdrop of the American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Noticeably, Jack Twist almost always wears these two colours throughout the entirety of the film. Between the two male leads, Twist is most obviously more effeminate than the hard exterior portrayed by del Mar s character. The introduction of Lureen shows her wearing vibrant scarlet clothing or red lipstick. This is presented as a more masculine colour illustrating Lureen as a strong, independent woman. It is also observed that Lureen maintained the business and that her father constantly questioned Jack s ability as a man . The opening scene is significant, as it positions the viewer to immediately understand the characterisations of each male lead and provides a glimpse into the future development of their relationship. Stenning Edgecombe claims, From the different attitudes the camera had toward their bodies in the opening sequence, to the economies of looks and talk between them, to their different sexual positions and experiences, this act masculinised Ennis while feminised Jack (2007) The contrast between the two characters is most evident, and though there is no dialogue, their body language highlights the different roles in which they play. Ennis leans against the trailer, hands buried deep into his pockets, with his head bowed low. The reason why this is the way to go is that relational databases are limited in the number of relationships that can be dug down and analyzed. Using a dimensional model will allow the use of multi dimensional cubes to be able to pull 3 or more dimensions back into a pivot table. An example would be Sales by customer service rep by assigned sales territory. This provides a deeper detail of data than you would be able to get out of a relational database. For each department of the university, I propose a Data mart for each one. The reason why this is the case is so that every department can manipulate their own data as they see fit with their own resources because it is on a different server than another data mart typically. The look and feel of the Data Mart is up to that department and does not bother the other departments Data Marts. Individual data marts can also increase response time because there are not as many people hitting them all at one time. If a new department were to pop up, data mart creation is very easy to do. Each record will be unique based on the primary or composite keys of the table, and those keys could be surrogate keys such as using AutoNumber like in Microsoft Access. Depending on the analysis of the data, it may be determined that the ID numbers between student and teacher are unique and this can be the way to link items together throughout the database. The ... The story is about a 9 year old boy who accidently shoots his older brother dead. The boy shows no emotion, whatsoever, and it is clear the grownups do not understand him, so he is labeled with words like cruel . He does not understand his feelings and he loses his identity when his mother rejects him in a way no mother should. So he is left alone, beginning to believe that he is actually cruel. When the accident happens, we see Arnold go into some state of shock and his actions after this point are described as mechanically . This is a way for Arnold to shut off his feelings so he does not have to feel the great grief of the loss of his brother. The Sheriff and the parents misinterpret his way of dealing with his sorrow, and instead they label the boy as cruel. Arnold is already in between identities because of the accident, which threw him out of the childish innocence, so he needs his parent s guidance and comfort more than ever. He is very insecure, and in the interview, he relies completely on his father s answers. However, when his parents believe he is cruel, he thinks it must be right, so he takes on this new identity. This new identity is described in the title as the stone boy , but this is not at all the boy we meet in the beginning, so Arnold goes through quite a change in the short story. There is also a transformation in Arnold s identity from day to night. In the daytime, we see a kid who does not show any emotions. He does not seem to regret his brother s ... • 9. The Fourteenth Amendment s Due Process Clause Bars... Judge Simon Skinner and Judge Leslie Tiller are judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, respectively. Each judge has an involved history with Minnesota s governor, Joyce Cooper. In this paper, I address whether the Fourteenth Amendment s Due Process Clause bars Skinner and Tiller from hearing two unique cases to which Cooper is a party. I conclude that, for both judges in both cases, it does not. *** I begin with the relationship between Judge Skinner and Governor Cooper, who are related in two ways, one significant and the other less so. First, and less significantly, Cooper taught Skinner construction law at Minnesota s flagship law school. Skinner would later own a construction company of his own, NWA Construction. Upon his confirmation to the 8th Circuit, Skinner sold the company, in its entirety, to his son. More significantly, Cooper, then serving as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, actively lobbied to confirm Skinner to the 8th Circuit after his nomination. Cooper contacted all other members of the Senate, promising them gratitude and a yay vote on a future federal judge nominee for a yay vote on Skinner s confirmation. Cooper even targeted 51 other Senators, for whom she held fundraisers that raised $58,000 per Senator. These fundraisers occurred immediately before the Senate s vote on Skinner s confirmation, and all 51 Senators for whom Cooper fundraised and Cooper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Quarrel Between Two Princes Gargiulo 2 Teddy Gargiulo English 242 Professor Mufti 13 February 2015 Paper # 1: Close Reading ?Sometimes the quarrel between two princes is to decide which of them shall dispossess a third of his dominions, where neither of them pretend to any right. Sometimes one prince quarreleth with one another; for fear the other should quarrel with him. Sometimes a war is entered upon, because the enemy is too strong, and sometimes because he is too weak. Sometimes our neighbors want the things which we have, or have the things which we want; and we will both fight, til they take ours or give us theirs. It is a very justifiable cause of war to invade a country after the people have been wasted by famine, destroyed by pestilence, or embroiled by factions amongst themselves. It is justifiable to enter into a war against our nearest ally, when one of his towns lie convenient to us, or a territory or land, that would render our dominions round and compact. If a prince send forces into a nation, where the people are poor and ignorant, he may lawfully put half of them to death, and make slaves of the rest, in order to civilize and reduce them from their barbarous way of living.? (Swift 2602). This quotation comes from the middle of chapter five, part four of Gulliver?s Travels, by Johnathon Swift, as Gulliver begins explaining the state of England to the master Houyhnhnm, and more specifically, why princes in England go to war with one another. From a young age, gender role expectations are taught to students through books, televisions, advertisements, and adult social interactions (Etaugh Liss 129 130). When the earth began there was no life, it was a world of fire and oceans of lava, after thousands of year s life began in the ocean and soon came onto land. The land creatures developed into dinosaurs which ruled the world for thousands of years until a meteor wiped them out and a great ice age came. Once the ice age ended monkeys came and from them humans. We have been around for two thousand years and now we have created artificial intelligence which is becoming more and more integrated into our ever increasingly complicated world to make it simpler but have humans also created the next cycle of evolution? The AI Revolution is on by Steven Levy is about Artificial intelligence (AI). Levy writes about how the AI came around and how it affects our daily life. Levy explains impeccably how its developers strayed away from imitating human intelligence, and how it is integrated into our society. Levy has been reporting on digital technology for over twenty five years and his articles have been published in many distinguished magazines according to Writing and Reading Across the Curriculum. Levy s article begins by talking about how robots are used in ware houses that are linked to a main computer that tells the robots what they need to get. The ware house is organized in small groups of products spread out threw out it, this way the robots don t have to travel as far to get the product but to a human it looks like a random pile or stuff that isn t sorted at all. • 13. The Competitive Forces Challenging Hertz External Analysis Based on the results of Porter s model, the following are the competitive forces challenging Hertz (Appendix A). Competitive Forces Firstly, Hertz faces low threat of entry from the competitors. As Hertz serves in the car rental and equipment rental industry it has low barriers to entry due to need of excessive amount of startup cost and through product differentiation. With the company s excellent economy of scale the new entrants might find difficult to survive. By aiming at the product differentiate Hertz gained very good customer loyalty which new entrants might lack. To initiate a rental business one needs to have good financial resources. The likelihood of achieving profit in the rental industry may serve as a low barrier to the new entrants. Secondly, Hertz also faces the threat of substitutes. There are other platforms such as train, taxi, bus shuttle that consumer uses as the means of transport. Due to heavy competition in the car rental and equipment rental industry, consumers are attracted towards the other rental services which offer similar products with low prices. For example, Avis provides excellent customer service with low price on its car rental and United Rental provides equipment rental service at lower price. This can make the Hertz rental business less useful. This can affect the overall attractiveness of the industry. Thirdly, Hertz suffers high bargaining power from the buyers as it is dependent on the customer s financial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Part Three focuses on the practice of supervision and standards while exploring some of the contemporary diversity issues facing coaching and mentoring. Part Four brings together all the above topics and moves toward a theory of coaching and mentoring. This section concludes with a review of the emerging concerns from coaching and mentoring. The authors point out that the history of mentoring is extensive and began with a more mature and experienced person engaging in a relationship with a less experienced person. The central purpose of both coaching and mentoring is to transfer specific knowledge and skills from one to the other with the intent of fostering independence (Garvey, Stokes, Megginson, 2014). Garvey et al., (2014) distinguish the difference between coaching and mentoring. According to the authors, coaching is the act of facilitating and mentoring is the practice of giving advice and expert recommendations (Garvey et al., 2014). It would appear that my client s evaluation of her self worth or self esteem has been affected by her close family relationships. Although there are many different short term effects, the most common happens to be a hangover which is a group of symptoms experienced by a person after a heavy consumption of alcohol (Alcoholic 1). Symptoms of a hangover often consist of nausea, fatigue, thirst, headache, diarrhea, and sensitivity to light and noise. The severity of a hangoverdepends on several factors; these factors include the amount of alcoholconsumed, the level of hydration in the body at the time of alcohol consumption, and disease. Although hangovers are the most common short term effect, blackouts are also a short term result of alcohol abuse. Consuming large amounts of alcohol can lead to temporary amnesia where the person is unable to recall events that occurred after he or she began drinking. Unfortunately, blackouts can lead to serious repercussions, especially if the person is engaged in sexual activity during that time. Blackouts are much more common among social drinkers than previously assumed and should be viewed as a potential consequence of acute intoxication regardless of age (National 1). Drinkers who experience blackouts typically drink too much and too quickly, which causes their blood alcohol levels to rise very rapidly. Typically, college students are at risk for experiencing a blackout, as an alarming number of college students engage in binge drinking. Ancient Greek And Roman Empires Essay Most of the history of the past that is known today has been gathered from primary sources of the times of interest such as original documents and objects. It is through these sources that historians are able to gain an in depth, and maybe sometimes biased, view into the lives of the people of the time and what was going on in the period. Despite being two vastly different genres of primary sources, Cicero s letters and Homer s epic poem The Odyssey, give some of the best ideas into life for the ancient Greek and Roman empires. Through analysis of these two works, some key similarities and differences of how both empires functioned are brought to light. During Odysseus s travels and Cicero s exile, both dreamt of nothing but being able to return home to the place they belonged. Calypso, who had been keeping Odysseus on her island for several years, in an attempt to get him to stay with her even tries to tempt Odysseus with immortality and warns him of the troubles he will have attempting to return and upon arriving (Odyssey 72 73). Despite this temptation and the warning, Odysseus says: My thought full Penelopeia, beside you, is not so tall or striking to look at. The lady will die; you are undying and ageless. Even so I go on longing all of my days here to sail back home, to see that homecoming light. He encounters an incident with some of Heathcliff s dogs, although Heathcliff did warn him about them, to which he pulls faces provoking them to attack him, to which neither Heathcliff or the servant Joseph seems to bother about. Fortunately for Lockwood, a female servant comes and shoos the dogs away. Although Lockwood is not injured, he appears to sulk in a childish manner, resulting in Healthcliff making up for this incident when he sees how angry Lockwood is. Wine is offered, and a conversation is brought about. Lockwood s foolish character analysis and bad judgement of Heathcliff prompts him to think of returning to Thrushcross Grange the next day, I was encourages so far as to volunteer another visit tomorrow. • 31. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Horror Genre Essay Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Horror Genre Typically the Horror or more specifically Vampire genre will have the theme good vs. evil where the hero represents good and the villain represents evil. This is consistent in Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Buffy is the hero and the evil vampires she slays (in this episode Glory/Ben) represent evil. There is also a clichГ© within this genre where good is always triumphant over evil. Buffy in this episode conforms to this clichГ© but with a twist; which is also typical of the Genre, good triumphs over evil in the end but not without a sacrifice. Although Buffy contains many of the conventions that are typical of the horror genre it also contains many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is something unusual about the villain in this episode of Buffy in so much as she has taken on the body of an innocent teenage boy called Ben meaning Buffy faces a moral dilemma (moral dilemmas are typical of this genre) when trying to eradicate Glory s threat. Buffy decides she cannot take a human life (Ben) even if it ensures the safety of the world proving her to be a hero that holds a strong grip on her morals. However, another group member ; Giles who from his appearance looks clever takes a different course of action to the problem; he decides the only way is to kill Glory/Ben and with this he slowly suffocates the severely injured Ben . This provides the audience with a tear jerking moment. Typical stock characters of a horror film include Vampires, Goblins, Zombies and innocent Victims. In this episode of Buffy we see only one of these stock characters: Goblins. The Goblins are typically ugly looking creatures who have hunchbacks and green skin as in this episode of Buffy. They are loyal to their mistress and help her to fight Buffy and her friends. Stereotypically the horror genre will contain a twist at the end. • 32. Positive And Positive Aspects Of A Positive School Introduction A positive school climate is essential. Schools with a positive climate tend to have less discipline problems. In addition, positive climates can encourage positive development, as well as promote academic motivation and engagement. This, in turn leads to fewer absences and improvements in academic achievement. Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) is a prevention oriented way for school personnel to organize evidence based practices, improve their implementation of those practices, and maximize academic and social behavior outcomes for students. • 33. The Curious Case of Dax Cowart Essay example The concept of autonomy in the medical practice brings many different views. Autonomy is the ability individuals have to be self governing. In these different views there exist two schools of thought, one is the belief that people are born with the ability to do what they want their body and no organization can tell them what to do with their body, like the government. On the other hand, some people believe that it is more complicated and conditional on mental competency so that person can make rational decisions. However, the majority of people seem to advocate for autonomy. This is a typical parental perspective considering that parents do not want to outlive their children. However, she should have sought out what was best for him and what he was going to be happy with and not her. As a group we also felt that he should have received better pain treatment especially since Cowart found out later that they could have done more for his treatment. If someone is in as much pain as he was and when a doctor is confronted with the request to die, that doctor should be doing everything he or she can to bring down the pain. • 36. Life During The Renaissance Era The renaissance was a period of rapid change in many European countries. The constant struggle between Catholicism and Protestantism alone created a country torn between both political and spiritual ideologies. As different kings and queens came into power, many were forced to change ideologies simply based on the beliefs of these monarchs. During this time, literature was used as a way to protest these ideologies. The works of Edmund Spenser, author of The Faerie Queene, Sir Thomas More, author of Utopia, the records of Anne Askew s burning, From the First Examination of Anne Askew and John Foxe s Acts and Monuments, provide insight into the political climate of spiritual reform in the renaissance era. These authors critiqued life during the renaissance and used their writings to protest the old ways, encouraging England to abandon its Catholic roots in favor of Protestantism. Sir Thomas More s radical ideas portrayed in Utopia help lay the foundation for the religious reformation in England. In order to bring about this reform, More creates a fictional utopia where he addresses the problems he has with England s current state of being. In the analysis of More s fictional character Raphael Hythloday s, his trip to Utopia draws a parallel with reforming England, including transitioning England from Catholicism to Protestantism. • 41. Analysis Of Legally Blonde In the acclaimed 2001 film, Legally Blonde, the main character, Elle Woods, is a fantastic feminine icon for females. The film represents the struggle of women to prove their ability. Remarkably, Elle never succumbs to those who so strongly see her as being stupid. While others put down her abilities and intelligence, Elle hardly ever doubts herself. She moves through the world with pure confidence. As Callahan, a law professor at Harvard who later selects Elle Woods for his internship quips, it s as if she just woke up one day and said, I m going to law school. She decides on a goal and knows she can attain it, even if others only respond with incredulity or mockery. Legally Blonde has many positive depictions of women and femininity for a 2001 film. Elle doesn t fit the misogynist prospect of submissive femininity. She is loud, emotional, and flamboyant. When she enters a room with the clacking of her bright pink heels, Chihuahua in arm, beaming and effusive, you cannot ignore her. Elle s bubbliness and enthusiasm is often disdained, especially in the legal world, but she continues to express her true self. She is unapologetic about being attractive, sexual and caring about her appearance. She does not stop being stereotypically girly despite that it makes others think she is less legitimate and intelligent. She proves that sexy and smart are not opposing forces. Elle is the perfect example of how being feminine does not mean you submit to patriarchal notion of submissiveness. One of the fundamental themes in Legally Blonde is that a female having an ardor for fashion does not make her dim witted and that fashion insight is not an immanently futile form of knowledge. Elle s fashion knowledge is introduced when a retailer labels her as a dumb blonde, and tries to take advantage of her by ripping off the last season sale tag and selling it to her for full price. Did you see this one? We just got it in yesterday. the retailer told her. Slyly, she asks Is this a low viscosity rayon with half loop top stitching on the hem?. She s remembered for being a gay poet and is immortalized despite a lot of her works not being found completely. It s one of my favorite quotes because identifying as a nonbinary queer person who also likes girls, I can relate to Sappho a lot when she writes about her desire for love and personal heartbreaks. This quote also brings me ease as even in another time someone will still remember me. I think we all want to leave a legacy of some sort, and for me I want my legacy to be centered around my experience and accomplishments as an American born Punjabi artist and social activist, who was also highly active in the LGBTQ+ community. I want someone to remember me because it is a vicious cycle that people of color and members of the color in the LGBTQ+ community get forgotten in history. History is white washed.
