The Categorization of Rape as a Hate Crime Essay examples
The Categorization of Rape as a Hate Crime As rape and hate crimes are separated into different
categories, their definitions are almost exactly alike. Rape is the crime of having sexual
intercourse with a person against their will usually influenced by violence and the will for
domination. Hate crimes are physical crimes against a certain group; fortunately they also are
usually influenced by violence and the will for domination. Rapeand hate crimes are a huge part of
today s society however they are protected under and placed in different categories, where as they
should both be in the same category. Rape should be categorized as a hate crime.

Bringing into account the crimes against the black race. Another large, well known hate group
/clan were the Nazi s. The Nazi s were against the Jewish religion, the white race, and the
homosexuals. Since the end of Adolph Hitler, Nazism has spread most rapidly since the 1980s
because of the use and availability of the Internet (Green haven). Adolph Hitler, the founder of
the Nazi s, hated Jews, whites, and homosexuals. Hitler tried killing off these races, the only
group of people Hitler wanted was people with blue eyes and blonde hair. In addition, he tried to
dominate the other groups, which he did well at, and he also fulfilled this sense of domination
by extreme violence. Also this new Nazism originated in Europe. In April 1995, a bombing
happened in Oklahoma City. Timothy McVeigh, the man who bombed Oklahoma City, killed at
least 168 people (Green haven). Tom Metzger was the founder of the White Aryan Resistance
(W.A.R). Tom Metzger, 1981, a large people involved in hate crimes wanted to bring ideology to
the Ku Klux Klan. He also used technology to spread knowledge about what he wanted to do. As
a result to this, his followers appeared on television shows. Unfortunately, their appearance on the
Geraldo Rivera Show led to a violent brawl. Fortunately in 1990 the Southern Poverty Law Center
(SPLC) won a civil suit against Tom Metzger for an Ethiopian immigrant who had been murdered.
This civil suit awarded the SPLC with $12.5 million.

The Reconstruction Era During The Civil War
The Reconstruction Era beginning in 1865 marked the period where white men and recently freed
African Americans quarreled over the concept of equality on the basis of race as well as where
freedom extended to. After the Civil War, there was a power struggle between the Republican and
Democratic parties as they had extremely distinct ideas on whether African Americans should be
free and hold citizen rights. African Americans were able to achieve citizenship as well as have
equality through the 14th amendment, however the struggle did not finish here, tensions between
races remained throughout the decades and the actual use of the amendment was not widespread.
During this time, two influential men were able to experience each side of this political spectrum.
Robert Smalls was a former slave who was able to gain positions in congress and advocated for
political equality throughout the southern states. Wade Hampton, was a highly educated southern
planter, war leader and senator who never accepted racial equality, always seeking to end all
attempts of reform alongside the Democratic Party. The Reconstruction proposed by congress
was meant to abolish slavery and enforce fair labor laws. As this sounds ideal, both Smalls and
Hampton were bitterly disappointed with it and would agree that Reconstruction was a failure
despite their contrasting political views. In a speech in 1876 Robert Smalls advocates against the
removal of federal troops located in the South to enforce the new

Definition Of Corporate Social Responsibility
Rogers Telecom s definition of corporate social responsibility is similar to the ISO 26000 in
addressing the seven principle subjects, organizational governance, human rights, labour practices,
the environment, fair operating practices, consumer issues, and community involvement and
development. Although, not all issues belonging to these principles were addressed. The strongest
attributes of the Rogers CSR definition supported by their 2013 CSR report are organizational
governance, fair operating practices, consumer issues, community involvement and development,
and the environment. The weaker attributes of the Rogers CSR definition supported by their 2013
CSR report are human rights and labour practices. Organizational governance and fair operating
practices were evident in both Rogers Telecom s CSR definition and report as they were
frequently mentioned as an important factor in all business activities. Specifically, Rogers
addressed two issues under the fair operating practices principle, anti corruption and fair
competition. Rogers approach in addressing the issue of anti corruption is to adhere to the Rogers
Business Conduct Guidelines, guidelines that define the expected behaviour from all employees in
standards of business conduct, integrity and ethical behaviour. In addition, Rogers Board of
Directors must also comply with these guidelines as well as a separate, Directors Code of Conduct
and Ethics. Furthermore, Roger s combats anti corruption with their whistle

Hoodoo Vs Voodoo
Hoodoo versus Voodoo: Alike in Name but Not in Practice
The Basic Aspects of Hoodoo As everyday people become more mindful of alternative forms of
medicine to employ in place of rigid western medicine, longstanding methods of healing from
around the world have experienced a revival, especially the West African practice of Hoodoo.
Hoodoo, otherwise known as rootwork or conjuring, is a manner of folk magic and spiritual
practice that focuses upon the innate powers of the earth and its dwelling life forces (Rave, n.d.).
Brought by slaves transported to the United States as part of the Transatlantic Slave Trade the
ways of Hoodoo spread throughout the Mississippi Delta, and utilizes a wide variety of methods to

beliefs and traditions; occasionally it is good to reevaluate what knowledge is known and how it is
known. It is through learning and coming to understand those with differing beliefs that society can
overcome its apprehension, and recognize that a contrast in beliefs do not make people any less

How Did Erasmus Use Folly to Criticize the Catholic Church
How did Erasmus use Folly to criticize the Catholic Church of his Day? It may seem odd or
different to admire and acclaim Folly, but there is a definite benefit to foolishness: the freedom
to tell only factual information. In Praise of Folly, Erasmus put this independence to good use in
repeating to the readers, a civilization significantly besmirched by mature worries, that a person
is unable to serve both God and Mammon. He leveled over his irony by promising us that there
is merit in being attacked by Folly (7), and closed with the recap that it s Folly and a woman who
s been speaking (134), a renunciation that permitted him to be as brutal as he desired to be in his
condemnation. He definitely found necessity for severity,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The story of bioremediation and its recent development as an oil spill response technology provides
an interesting example of how a new environmental technology comes into being. Based on the
U.S. experience (highly influenced by the Exxon Valdez oil spill), the history of bioremediation in
spill response can be divided into three development periods (after Hoff, 1993): the courtship period
until 1989, the honeymoon period from 1989 until 1991, and the establishment period since 1992.
1. Courtship Period (pre 1989)
The first courtship period was primarily a research period, when bioremediation was little known
outside the microbiology or hazardous waste community. Many published articles from the 1970s
and earlier documented the process of microbial degradation of oil, both in the laboratory and in
field trials. A number of scientific papers on this topic were published during the 1970s and 1980s,
including several review papers covering mechanisms of biodegradation, and papers presenting
results from controlled field experiments measuring degradation rates in various environments.
Several studies following major oil spills like the Amoco Cadiz measured oil degradation in the
environment and confirmed previously published results from laboratory studies (Hoff, 1993).
These works established a basic understanding of biodegradation of oil as an important component
of the process known as

The Dosage Of Ionizing Radiation Increases The Risk Of Cancer
The Dosage of Ionizing Radiation Increases the Risk of Cancer
On November 8, 1895, a German physics professor named Wilhelm Roentgen discovered x rays.
This advance in technology helped man explore the unknown of the human body without
performing surgery. Only the microscope could compete with x rays in the contribution to
medical vision (Gunderman 2). After the discovery of x rays, researchers found that there were
therapeutic and also cancerous results from radiation emissions. Before this discovery became
public, the Radium Watch Company began coating their watch dials with radium in order for
them to glow, to allow owners of these watches see the time, even at night. However, the women
workers, as watch dial painters, at the company would wet there brushes with their mouths to
create a finer point. After months of this practice, many of the women received cancerous tumors
and necrosis of the jaw. As a result, most were buried in lead lined coffins because of the high
emissions of radiation from their bodies. Lead is now used to shield radiation from patients that
are not receiving a full body scan. An x ray is made from a beam of high energy photons passing
through the body which are either diminished or blocked entirely when they hit subatomic particles,
like bone or metal. The denser and thicker the substance the brighter the image on the radiograph.
Both radiological scans, x rays and CT scans both use ionizing radiation to capture the images of the
human body.

Five Pillars Of Islam, The Most Important Article Of Faith
Five pillars of Islam, are spiritual practices that define what it means to be a member of the
Muslim community and believe in Islam. Shahadah, is the first pillar of Islam. This is a self
profession of faith, an inner testimony of faith. There is no god but God, and Muhammad is his
true prophet. Shahadah is considered the most important article of faith. The Qur an says that in
those with true faith should tell others, giving them information to make an intelligent choice in
regards to faith and religion. At the same time one must respect all prophets and all revealed
religions. Salat, ritual prayer is the second pillar of Islam. The call to prayer and an affirmation of
Gods unity. There are five daily prayers starting at sunrise, midday, afternoon, sunset, and after
night falls. The time of each prayer changes from day to day with the orientation of the sun in
the heaven. These prayers are continuous reminders for Muslims to submit to God, keeping them
on a pure path, rejuvenating their faith, and giving thanks to God for all of the blessings they
enjoy. Prior to each prayer one must ritually purified and cleanse one s self both spiritually and
physically in preparation for prayer. There is strict gender segregation during prayer. The Quiblah
in each Muslim mosque faces in the direction of Mecca, which is the way one prays, facing the Ka
bah. Prayer starts with Allahu Akbar (Allah is great), standard resuscitation Devotional verses,
verses of the Karan. Friday

An Interview On College Athletes
In an interview, former University of Connecticut (UConn) basketball star Shabazz Napier voiced
his opinion on college athletes not getting paid to play. The interview was conducted just after
UConn won a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship, in which Napier
won the most outstanding player award. The interview conducted by Fox News was only one
minute and thirty five seconds long on TV, however in that short time frame, Napier skillfully used
rhetoricto support his claims. An analysis through the lens of Aristotle s three proofs, Ethos, Pathos
and Logos demonstrates Napier s aptitude to galvanize his audience to support his claims.
Ethos was specifically important in Napier s ability to spur the NCAA in considering making
changes in their no compensation policy towards college athletes. Aristotle states that Ethos is used
to build credibility of a person towards their audience. The rethor not only has to prove that he is
knowledgeable of the subject at hand (demonstrating mental habits), but also that he has good moral
and emotional habits. Through the interview Napier was able to exhibit all of these characteristics
in positively shaping the perception of the audience.
Napier exuded good mental habits throughout the interview. He was able to create that perception to
the audience by the way in which he addressed each question, while also appearing to address the
questions that may subsequently follow. Starting from the beginning of the interview

The 1972 Presidential Election Essay
The 1972 Presidential Election
The election of 1972 was one of the largest landslide victories by a presidential candidate in
United States history. President Nixon was reelected to the presidency by beating Senator
George McGovern of South Dakota in an impressive victory. The Nixon landslide victory tied
FDR s 60.8 percent of the popular vote in 1936 for the second largest popular vote get in
American history. Nixon s 60.8 percent of the vote compared to McGovern s 37.6 percent, a
difference of 23.2 percent, was also the fourth largest margin of victory in a presidential election in
United States History. Nixon not only won with an impressive popular vote margin, but he also

Muskie also had some strong opponents for the democratic nomination for president. Hubert
Humphrey who lost to Nixon in 1968 was seen as a possible contender, along with Alabama
Governor George Wallace, and Senator George McGovernof South Dakota. Muskie s campaign
was crippled when he only won the New Hampshire primary with 47 percent of the vote compared
to the 65 percent he was predicted to receive. Followed by bad publicity and his fourth place finish
in Florida Muskie began to finish poorly in the remaining primaries. When McGovern won
Massachusetts Muskie halted his campaign. Wallace was still considered a possible contender until
an attempt to assassinate him left Wallace paralyzed and he thus withdrew from the campaign.
Humphrey and McGovern were the remaining contenders. The California primary was one that left
the Democratic Party divided. In debates between Humphrey and McGovern, Humphrey accused
McGovern of being too liberal. Although McGovern won California, he won by a narrower margin
than expected, which seemed to show that Humphrey s attacks had taken their toll. McGovern won
most of the remaining primaries and received the democratic nomination for president. Although
McGovern received the nomination, a divided Democratic Party may have hurt his campaign early
on.
The policy issues of the 1972 presidential election were some of the most highly publicized issues
of any modern day election. The war in Vietnam was a hotbed of

Jackson Epiphenomenal Qualia Analysis
In the essay Epiphenomenal qualia, Jackson introduces the mental experience of qualia as an
objection to physicalism the idea that all true information is physical information. Beyond this
conclusion, Jackson further argues that qualia are epiphenomenal by rebutting three possible
responses. I believe that Jackson s objections are valid but unsound, and that epiphenomenalism of
qualiais more plausible than its counterargument. As for the knowledge argument which proves that
physicalismis false, I agree with Churchland that it is unjustified, but I concur with Jackson s
conclusion that physicalism is false.
First of all, we need to clarify the meaning of epiphenomenal qualia . Using Jackson s language,

it is simply a property of this trait. In fact, Jackson s claim that every evolved characteristic is
either conducive to survival or a by product of one that is conducive is false. Producing a by
product is a waste of energy and harms the probability of survival. Thus, if a by product is
avoidable , then evolution would act to decrease this by product, not to preserve it. To fix Jackson

How Is Blanche Dubois A Victim
Streetcar Named Desire Assignment.
Blanche DuBois is a fallen southern heiress to the DuBois empire that is Belle Reve. Born into
wealth, Blanche has never had to work or face the harsh realities that life brings along. The play, A
Streetcar Named Desire shows both parts to the eccentric persona that is Blanche DuBois; the
unfortunate victim of society and the victimizer who uses lies to deceive people to get what she

Blanche lives in a world that is actually a figment of her vast imagination. A world where she is

She prefers to live in this fantasy world to distract her from the plight she currently faces in the

Western Parenting Vs Western Parenting
To be a parent, by definition, is to be or act as a mother or father to (someone). Success, by
definition, is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. Parents should want their child to succeed,
but the way to do it is very controversial and it can stir many arguments and disputes. Eastern
parenting, or Chinese parenting, is very harsh and strict, while Western parenting is a bit more
relaxed. I believe that the best way to raise a child is by using a combination of the Western and
Eastern parenting styles by letting children pursue their interests, preparing them for the future,
and being strict while still understanding every child s limits. First of all, parents should allow
children to pursue their interests and allow them to choose what they want to do, whether it be a
hobby or an academic career. Parents that use the Eastern parenting style, in this case, highly
limit what their child is allowed to do. On the other hand, parents that use the Western parenting
style mostly allow children to do as they please, but it has to be used in moderation. Amy Chua
is a parent that uses the Eastern parenting style, and she highly limits what her children are able
to do, Here are some things that [Chua s] daughters, Sophia and Louisa, were never allowed to

Re Astor s Settlement Case Summary
The essence of a trust lies in the principle that a settlor appoints a trustee, who then holds onto a
property for a beneficiary. The trustee has power of the property but also duties to perform as a
part of their role. The beneficiary is the ultimate owner and has all the associated rights to the
property. The beneficiary principle states that in every non charitable trust there must be
ascertainable beneficiaries. This means that there must be an actual human to which the court can
decide in favour of. This rests on two propositions, firstly, a trust that cannot be enforced must
fail. This view is widely accepted. The second view is that only beneficiaries can enforce trusts and
this view is less accepted, as it is believed that beneficiaries... Show more content on

The rule is that one must be able to determine that before the end of the perpetuity period, that the
trust will definitely come to an end. The perpetuity period defined as the age of the life in
question, plus 21 years. However, the problem with private purpose trusts is that they often don t
have an ascertainable beneficiary, and so where this is the case, the court will define it as the
twenty one years. The perpetuity principle can be problematic in that where there is no named
beneficiary, or where the trust is for the purpose of maintaining monuments as in the case of Re
Hooper. However, in Re Hooper, the settlor had stated that the trustees were to carry out the
purpose as far as was legally possible and this was found to be saving words, meaning that the trust
was upheld and in line with the perpetuity principle. However, in the absence of such saving words,
all trusts will fail. In Musset.v.Bingle there was no perpetuity period stated for the upkeep of the

was assumed that the monument would be completed within 21

Genocide In Darfur
Concerning the ethnic minorities of Burma, I believe that we are in a period where carefully
analyzed humanitarian input can have a successful impact. Unlike the genocide in Darfur, we re
aware of a developing situation where large scale genocide has not taken place yet. History further
lends a hand in paralleling the cordoning in society of minorities such as the Rohingya with that of
the black African minorities in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan. Lessons gained in the events in
Sudan should be considered in defending the minorities of Burmawho are facing human rights

The Sudanese government refused to allow NGOs into the Nuba Mountains, where genocide by
attrition was taking place. However, a London based human rights group, African Rights, played an
instrumental part in both reaching out to the Nuba as well as bringing their plight to the attention
of the international community. African Rights was able to gain access to the Nuba Mountains and
provide valuable communication logistics to the Nuba, which provided a window to the
international community of the human rights violations carried out by the Sudanese government.
Similarly, Burmese minorities such as the Rohingyas have been separated from the larger Burmese
society. They have very little rights and sustenance. A scenario eerily familiar to that of the Nuba

documentation. Moving this groups work beyond university campuses and onto the ground in

What are the Trade Barriers into entering an Asian Market?
Trade barriers are the ways that governments or public are familiarizing to make imported goods
or services less economical than locally produced goods and services. For an American company
to make an exchange and enter the Asian sector, they need to identify which country they would
like to establish their business and to identify the trade barriers for that exact country. There are
several barriers such as government imposed barriers are the ones that are connected to import
regulations, import quotas, tariffs and product specifications. Invincible trade barriers were linked
to cultural and social conditions or on the government s policy. The visible trade barriers were
linked to the concern of tariff and non tariff barriers. Tariff barriers were related to high and low
tariff rates of certain goods but non tariff barriers were related to quotas, norms and consumer
protection measures.
U.S firms need to understand certain types of the Asian market such as employment relationships
and the different kinds of cultures. The host country factors included the government s restrictions
on foreign direct investment (FDI), lower protections of intellectual property and the cost of land.

A Short Note On Failure And Emergency Department
Congestive heart failure (CHF) as a disease which nearly five million Americans suffer from and
this number is expected to double in prevalence by the year 2030. CHF is the most common reason
for hospitalization and emergency department (ED) visits by those 65 years and older in the United
States (American Heart Association, 2002). Horowitz, Rein, and Leventhal (2004) wanted to

Horowitz et al. (2004) found interventions done to date did not benefit from sufficient data in which
potentially modifiable factors are responsible for suboptimal treatment, inadequate self
management, and adverse CHF outcomes. The researcher s perspective on the problem of self
managing CHF came from determining whether a patient understands and perception of CHF
demonstrated the features of the disease, which are important for participation in their own care.
According to Polit and Beck (2008), literature reviews vary in purpose and length in order to
critically appraise the state of research evidence. There are major steps which must be completed in
order to properly analyze literature. Literature review broadens the understanding of a research
problem and summarizes the existing body of knowledge related to the phenomenon of interest.
Horowitz et al. (2004) reviewed different sources, which provided a solid base for this study. The
researchers utilized current studies and trials to provide reliability and validity to their study. The
researchers integrated the literature throughout the study, highlighting clinical guidelines and
current thoughts of best practice. Although the majority of literature reviewed was pertinent and
timely, there were several journal articles dating back 15 years, which may render the information

How Did Hitler Have Blind Faith
After the Great war the allies congregated in France to sign the treaty of Versailles. The treaty
stated that the Germans were to blame for the war and had to pay for all of the damages. The
German people to begin with had very little money and after the war they had literally nothing to
lose. In this time of desperation, a man rose up from the shadows and started to talk about how he
would make their country prosper one more. Adolf Hitlerwas his name. He won over the German
people with his charismatic personality. The German people gave him so much power due to his
charisma and in his pursuit of purifying the German race he because one of the monsters in history.

An Orthopedic Field That Specializes Avoidance And...

An orthopedic field that specializes avoidance and management of sports related injuries that range

correlate with injury rehabilitation, a relatively new treatment that is performing breakthrough in
medicinal science is gene therapy. It displays great potential in getting athletes back into physical
activity faster, whilst regenerating injury to complete fitness. Even though gene therapy is
relatively new with ten years of research, it is based on the evidence that generating genes outside
of the body and genetically modifying them, before re injecting them back into the body, can help
to reinstate missing genes that are caused by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first type is a viral vector, which is a genetically altered virus that specifically targets injury
sites. Here the genes that are used by the virus to duplicate themselves are detached and substituted
with the anticipated growth factor gene. Viral vector systems remain the most efficient vehicles to
achieve long term stable gene expression in the CNS (Bower, 2011). Afterwards the virus attaches
itself to the injured targets using receptors. Next, viral and/or cellular proteins will allocate the
genetic code (rDNA) for the wanted growth factor within the cytoplasm and into the nucleus.
Manifestation of the growth factor by the genetically transformed target cells can promptly be
commenced.
Other ways to introduce growth factors are the use of non viral vectors, like genetically
modified liposomes. The reason non viral vectors are sometimes more preferred is due to the fact
that they are safer, in the sense that they possess lower toxicity and are simpler to concoct that
viral vectors. Although they are safer they have far lesser efficiency in terms of gene transfer,
which is a fundamental element in the achievement of the procedure. The reason gene transfer isn t
more prominent and all over the place is simply due to the fact is the presence of unproductive
transfer vectors, and that is why finding a safer more efficient way of vector transferring

Based on the recent communications with Palm, it is clear that they are not interested in
negotiating with ttools despite the fact that they have reminded them about infringement. Palm is
already in a contract with IDEO to design a stylus similar to ttools which means that Palm will
cease to publish any ads about ttools products from their online newsletter. Negotiating or
competing without taking any action to stop infringement of its intellectual property would not
enable ttools to leverage its core organizational strengths in competing with Palm. In its current
state ads through the online newsletter is the most helpful marketing tool for ttools to reach out
to the PDA owners. If Palm stops publishing ads which is highly likely action from Palm s
perspective in order to promote their own product ttools need to develop their own marketing
capabilities. Even if they start their marketing campaign, ttools might not be able to compete Palm
in terms of resources and market reach. The other alternative of ceasing negotiation and competing
with Palm might not be very effective because of the fact that we do not have the capabilities to
set a solid ground for such competition. Even if ttools start competing based on its superior pricing
and material quality, Palm could easily match its pricing and material quality as long as they could
infringe ttools product design. If ttools does not file litigation charges, Palm has not compelling

Essay On My Grand Ole Opry
I have always been a lover of photography. Photos reveal a sense of emotion whether that is
happiness, sadness, or anger. It can capture such a powerful moment in time. It shows a person who
they are, their past, present, and most importantly how they have grown. With the technology that
is readily available, and as many pictures that are captured on a daily basis, a story can unfold.
My Grand Ole Opry photo shows a huge smile on my face. It reminds me of my love for music and
how just by attending that one show at the Opry, I knew that I wanted to be in the music
business for the rest of my life. Being with my mom and grandma, I go back to the daily car
rides to preschool with my karaoke machine in hand singing at the top of my lungs to the
cassette tape in the radio. Grandma and I sitting down to write the lyrics so maybe one day I
could sing the correct words instead of some made up ones. Now I look at myself and scoff, being
too embarrassed to sing anything in front of nearly everyone.

This has allowed the She Runs campaign to be successful in securing more active participants in
the brand community and ultimately growing Nike s customer base. Part of Nike s mission
statement explains, If you have a body, you are an athlete (Nike, 2013). The She Runs campaign is
in line with this mission statement, as they encourage all types of women to get involved and
inspire them to discover their own athletic potential. This motivates women to consider themselves
as athletic, modifying their self schema and therefore shaping their behaviours, perceptions and
motivations in favour of the Nike brand.
Social Psychology, Culture and Attitudes
Nike identified that women have a tendency towards self handicapping behaviour. Women perceive
running in groups as competitive and intimidating, leaving them to overcome running fears and
goals in isolation (AdNewsAus 2013). This is greatly contrasted to the female stereotype and
inclination to discuss and partake in shared experiences (MarketingMag 2013). Nike recognised this
behaviour and turned it into an opportunity through the formation of the She Runs community. Due
to the need of belonging, women have conformed to the actions of those in their reference group
both on and offline in the campaign. Women are connected to those that share their aspirations,
beliefs, attitudes and their ideal self . This community continues to grow due to conformity and how

One hypothesis is that since it is so easy to transmit to animals this may be why so many people
have gotten BU.
Even though BU has been reported in 33 countries there are only 15 that have been documented as
having a significant amount of cases. In those 15 countries there have been between 5,000 6,000
reported/documented cases of BU (Mycobacterium, www.who.int). Most patients, with this
disease, are younger than 15 years old (Buruli Ulcer, Nigeria). In Benin over half of the BU
patients are children.
There are so many poor families in Benin, and that makes it hard for them to take their children
to hospitals, which is why a lot of the patients that go to the hospitals have already had the disease
for 2 4 months (Small). If the patient was caught in the early stages of the disease then about 80%
of those patients could be cured by a combination of antibiotics (Mycobacterium, www.who.int).
For poor families it isn t only that they may not have insurance but it is also the traveling that is an

The Epidemic Of Ebola Virus Ebola
The virus Ebola, or formally known as Ebola haemorrhagic fever, is something most, if not all,
Americans have heard of in these past few months since it has taken American media by storm.
Ebola is a severe, often fatal illness, with an astonishingly high case fatality rate. It is considered
one of the world s most virulent diseases and is transmitted by direct contact with the blood, body
fluids and tissues of infected animals or people ( EbolaVirus Disease ). This, however, is not the
only aspect of Ebola that should be considered. Even though it is often difficult to accept that
humanity has an innate stereotypical attitude and a dormant racism that surfaces in times of
distress (like the Ebola outbreak), it is crucial to recognize that the virus Ebola has not only the
power to evoke physiological harm, but also political and social harm. It is slowly worsening an
already fragile Western society, weakened from previous years of blatant racism and constant fear.
Therefore, the naive American public should care to examine the virus Ebola from a sociological
viewpoint, in addition to a medical one. Western culture has peculiar views on global disease in the
twenty first century, especially since geographical location largely contributes to a global public
health inequality. Consequently, the American media s portrayal of people of color, specifically
Thomas Duncan and President Barack Obama, contributes to and sheds light on the healthcare
disparity in the United States.

Comparison Of Wuthering Heights And Othello
Compare and contrast how love is explored in Wuthering Heights and Othello
The theme of love is found throughout the complete history of literature and is still being explored
in a vast majority of works today. It is a theme that brings strong emotions to both the characters and
the audience. Love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs , an extract from Shakespeare s Romeo
and Juliet is one of the examples of this love throughout literature. This quote shows the negative
side of love, made with the fume of sighs makes you think that love is produced from bad things.
This is because the word sighs is a reaction to something unfortunate happening. Both Othello and
Wuthering Heights show a negative side of love of the much explored theme of love. Characters
driven by desire, lying just to try and catch a glimpse of love, and overall heartache all these
things are shown in the two texts. They truly show just how love is a smoke made with the fume of
sighs .
Cathy, Heathcliff, Desdemona and Othello all go against the society expectations of the times set.
That I did love the Moor to live with him, my downright violence and storm of fortunes, may
trumpet to the world. My heart s subdued , this shows how much Desdemona loves Othello. It
shows how much Desdemona loves Othello. It shows the passionate love that she has for him,
violence and storm of fortunes portrays the passion in her heart. The word storm suggests that her
love for Othello is in the moment

The indigenous population of Czechoslovakia were the Slavic tribes. These tribes were made up of
West Slavs tribes who were the Poles, the Czechs and the Slovaks. The East Slavs tribes consisted
of Russians, Ukrainians and Belarusian s. The South Slavs tribes consisted of Bulgarians,
Croats, Macedonians Serbs and Slovenians. In 550 BC the Slavs began settling in the eastern

Empire was established and in 1085 Vrastislav II became the first Czech king which started the
Premyslid dynasty. The Premyslid dynasty ended with the death of King Wenceslas III in 1306. In

Persuasive Essay On Obesity
As years go by American weight struggle has been getting worse. People with diabetes today has
more than double since 1994. While there are ways to help bring down obesity, most companies
have not taken action. There are many factors to why obesity has only been increasing all these
years. First off, in Radley Balko essay, What You Eat Is Your Business he thinks people need to
start being responsible for their actions, because maybe it will help people from being so obese.
Health Insurances should reward people for having a health style. Radley Balko talks about that
if someone is paying for his health medicines, what is stopping him from not having something
unhealthy (467). Nutritional testing is being conducted on restaurants by Congress (Balko
467). In addition, in David Zinczenko essay Don t Blame the Eater he indicates unhealthy food
places make it easy for kids to get to and are not warning kids about the food they eat. Kids often
go for cheaper meals, which usually means going to some fast food place. David Zinczenko said
that if you want something healthy, you may have to make a little farther drive for that (463).
From 1994 to today childhood cases of Type 2 diabetes went up about 25 percent (Zinczenko
463). When eating at a fast food restaurant people cannot see how much calories they are
consuming from their meals. Eating two meals a day from fast food places is not a good idea,
because you will consume way more than you should be for calories. If you are trying to watch
out for how much calories you have at a fast food place then you should make sure you are
considering everything you order. Some places may tell you how many calories is in their
burgers or nuggets, but that does not include any sauces you may want (Zinczenko 463 464). At
this rate, more people will just become obese and/or have diabetes. Last of all, in Marion Nestle
essay, The Supermarket: Prime Real Estate she states that supermarkets manipulate you on buying
extra things you do not need. During her research, she realized there were a lot of different studies
for designing the layout of the stores (Nestle 499 500). For instance; Stores do not use a lot of

The most impactful event in my life so far was the two week service trip I took to Ecuador with

seventeen, I secured enrollment at Northeast MississippiCommunity College majoring in fashion
merchandising. My first two years at junior college were wonderful, and I thoroughly enjoyed
participating in the arts, being the Captain of the Tiger Dancers and Pom Squad, playing as a
member of the tennis team, and supporting Prentiss county as Miss Hospitality 2013. These years
taught me time management like no other while also leading me down the path of self expression
and competitiveness. Finding immense knowledge and encouragement from professors in little
classrooms and civilians in a small Mississippi town perfected my willingness to strive to do my
utmost best in every circumstance, whether it be reaching my goals or helping others. Attending

Birth Of A Nation Stereotypes
You can clearly see this film was backlash from Birth of a Nation. It made a stance and
questioned all stereotypes in the other film. It had a good balance between good and evil. The
producer crushed all the stereotypes in Birth of a Nation, and shows you what it would look like
if the south did free the blacks. The film really focuses on even with freedom, even with education,
wealth and rights; there are still similar struggles blacks had to go through. No matter what they did
to progress.
Birth of a Nation was a very biased film. It was produced to influence rich white people to justify
their actions towards the black race by skewing what happened in history. Within Our Gates was
seen in Ghetto movie theatres, meaning pretty much blacks ... Show more content on

Sylvia is awaiting her fiance Conrad. All the characters are sophisticated individuals. The film
makes this image seem as a normality. In Birth of a Nation they do the same opening scene with
the Cameron s and that being the normality. There are no white villains in Birth of a Nation. The
producers go out of their way to portray black stereotypes and make blacks out to be horrible
human beings. It s very clear cut that whites are good, blacks are evil. Even the battle between
the Camerons and the Stoneman still showed goodness. For example when Ben Cameron was
shot at war, Phil had his sister Elsie take care of him. No matter what difficulties are between
them, they still do the right thing. Yet when they look at the blacks, they were doing nothing but
wrong. Such as when the black man chased Margaret to her death. It s not so black and white in
Within Our Gates. They focus more on each individual character. They all have a story and there
are reasonings behind their actions. For example Larry Prichard ended up shooting red during a
poker game and killing him. Now there was a motive and a purpose in larry s actions. Yesit was
wrong, but it was a realistic action anyone, of any race or gender could make. I feel like in Birth
of a Nation blacks were acting like animals and destroying things and hurting people for no reason

Spirit Of Offense
Do you walk in the spirit of offense?
The truth is, all of us at one time or another, have either been offended or offended someone.
And the good news is, we all have the opportunity to SHIELD UP!
How Do I know if I have the spirit of offense?
Before we get into what it means to Shield Up, let s first identify if we have the spirit of offense.
Even though we are told in James 1:19 to be slow to take offense, we have seen relationships
destroyed and people leave their church family over the spirit of offense. (Block Quote)
Understand [this], my beloved brethren. Let every man be quick to hear [a ready listener], slow
to speak, slow to take offense and to get angry. ~ James 1:19 (AMPC)
So how can we tell if we walk in the spirit of offense? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Submission is meant for every believer. As Godexpects us to submit to Him, to each other, to our
spouses, employers, and our government!
Remind the believers to submit to the government and its officers. They should be obedient,
always ready to do what is good. ~ Titus 3:1(NLT)
The slippery slope here is that without submission, we can almost guarantee that we will walk in
the spirit of offense.
That s because to be discipled is to be mentored. To be mentored is to be held accountable.
However, you cannot be discipled without being teachable. You cannot be mentored without
yielding to submission. And you cannot receive accountability without humility.
In other words, when you walk in humility you will avoid walking in the spirit of offense!

When you walk in humility you avoid walking in the spirit of offense! #ShieldUp
Hurting the Already Wounded
Sometimes we are quick to walk in the spirit of offense when we re already hurt. This is why it s
so important to get to the root of our wounds.
But, what happens when you offend someone who hasn t dealt with the root of their

Importance Of Coming Of Age Experience
College always seems to find a way to the back of student minds. Every single one of them
wondering if college is worth the time and energy. College have opened many doors for people
who went to college and graduated than the ones that did not. The ones who already experienced
college report how the experiencehelped them shape themselves. They also claim that their college
experience made them confront many different challenges that they later again experienced in the
real world . Even though some individuals think that college is not a coming of ageexperience, it
has been proven that college is an important coming of age experience because it makes students
realize some of life s obstacles and help them prepare for their future journey called life.
College is an important coming of age experience because young adults confront some of life s
challenges earlier. Mrs. Henderson, a former teacher at Desert Pines High School, spoke how
college was a challenging event in her life, but that the benefits will show at the end (Henderson).
Mrs. Henderson also explained how college made her feel much more confident in herself when
she showed up for job interviews (Henderson). College has helped many overcome their
insecurities and worries about becoming an independent adult, a challenge that they probably will
face in their life. College also helps young adults become more open minded about their
surroundings and the advantages that life provides them. In the passage, My

How To Drought In California
Californians have been struggling with trying to conserve our water for over three years.
Twenty Thirteen was our driest year in many populated areas in California, and it doesn t seem
to be changing any time soon, unless we all act now. In twenty thirteen, Los Angeles and
Sacramento, went down on record as the driest two cities in California. A drought is when area of

resulting in a shortage of water. Water is vital for all living things and is the essential component of
all life. This ongoing drought has drastically affected the state of California. The long term change

Satire in American literature has evolved in response to the development of the American mind, its
increasing use of free will, and the context that surrounds this notion. Satire is the biting wit that
authors (labeled satirists) bring to their literature to expose and mock the follies of society. Satirists
can be divided, however, into two groups with very different purposes. One type mocks simply for
the enjoyment of mocking. These satirists are found almost everywhere in the world, on every
street corner, household, and television sitcom. It is the second type of satirist who is a strong
force in the world of literature. The satirical author will mock to ... Show more content on

The complexities of institutions such as business and government are confusing the sense of
direction needed in order to prosper, causing a spiritual decline that results in the warping of the
public s morals. Vonnegutalso feels that the American attitude of dwelling on the worst events of
life is contributing this loss of spirit. Vonnegut offers solutions to this problem in Slaughterhouse
Five, as he introduces new ways of perceiving our lives. With the increasing amount of free will
that is being granted to people around the world, many have no sense of how to use it. Vonnegut is
particularly upset with the way that Americans are living and the way in which society is moving.
Through his literature, he offers a path for the use of free will with the notion that all people are
given the opportunity to better themselves. Through the bettering of the individual comes the
bettering of society.
Vonnegut s last addition to the literary world is his wantonly satirical novel Timequake.
Timequake is devoted to the concept of free will and its dominance in nature. In this novel
Vonnegut forces people to take a step back and look at how the human race is doing: At 2:27 p.m.
on February 13th of the year 2001, the Universe suffered a crisis in self confidence. Should it go
on expanding indefinitely? (32) At the end of thisprocess of imploding, however, the universe

The Movie The Help
The Help, is a movie about a would be author named Eugenia Skeeter Phelan who is caring,
courageous, trustworthy, kind, outspoken, smart, a loner and quite different from most of the
other women in Jackson, Mississippi. She is a 23 year old college educated woman who had self
esteem issues growing up, never had a boyfriend or children and was raised primarily by a maid
named Constantine Jefferson. While many of the young ladies of Jackson were having babies,
Skeeter was going to college as she wanted to become a serious writer. She wanted to write a book
and give the African American maids a voice to explain the daily struggles they encounter when
taking care of white families during the 1960s civil rights movement.

Art History 21
1. Discuss the impact of photography on the nineteenth century landscape. How did it affect
painting? What were the political implications of the medium? Use examples to support your essay.
Landscape painting was a particularly effective vehicle for allegory because it allowed artists to
make fictional subjects appear normal, conditioned, acceptable, or destined. Art was not just about
the landscape, it actually allowed the spirit of the painter to come alive in their work. The allegory
was for moral and spiritual concerns. The introduction to photography therefore impacted 19th
century landscape in a manner that was found to be unacceptable because personal intertwinement
of expression and emotion could not come from photography. ... Show more content on

Constable is representing this environment in his canvas by portraying the oneness that once was

Bierstadt s canvas is the basis of manifest destiny of the United States. Albert Bierstadt furthermore
presented Romantic panoramic landscape views that also participated in the continuous exploration
of the individual s and the country s relationship to the land. He focused on identifying qualities that
rendered America unique, which was part of the manifest destiny. The sunrays attempting to break
through the clouds are further support of the manifest destiny suggesting the heavenly light shining
through on a portion of the land (uncultivated and wild) is awaiting the people. His canvas is
focused on the Western part of the country to create attention of the uniqueness of the regions that
need be discovered, that expansion throughout the country was the logical destiny for the United

pieces of art respective to their countries and environment is the building and destruction of

As technology has progressed so has our composing practices. Dennis Baron, a linguist who
studies literacy and communication technologies, wrote From Pencils to Pixels: The Stages of

writing technology, for example the pencil and computer. Grabill et. Al, a collaboration of
professors and assistant professors, wrote From Pencils to Pixels: The Stages of Literacy
Technologies, a paper about the writingtechnologies that students use most, and there importance
to the student. The Grabill et. Al paper demonstrates how students have moved toward computers
and away from paper for writing. Technology has greatly affected composing practices as it has
progressed and developed. Baron states The computer, the latest development in writing technology,
promises, or threatens, to change literacy practices for better or worse, depending on your point of

A Link Between Cervical Cancer And Hpv
Introduction Did you know there is more of a link between cervical cancer and HPV than smoking
and lung cancer? Cervical cancer is currently the fourth most common cancer in women and the

worldwide. The prevalence of women having a strain of HPV that ultimately leads to or increases
the chance of cervical canceris highly relatable. What is pathophysiology, signs, symptoms,

stratified squamous epithelium. This is where the virus will proliferate into more differentiated
cells to spawn offspring virus. The virus replication is what causes the skin characteristics of a
wart. With the help of a pap smear, we are able to investigate if cervical epithelial cells are
healthy and normal or determine which point in dysplasia they are at in transforming to
cancerous cells. The HPV virus does not need a host to survive, and can survive in low and high
temperatures. The different stages of the squamous intraepithelial lesion can include low grade,
high grade risk types of HPV, at this point HPV can spontaneously go away on its own and shows
no signs of concern to the patient. If a biopsy is done and is showing dysplasia the physician can

  • 3. The Reconstruction Era During The Civil War The Reconstruction Era beginning in 1865 marked the period where white men and recently freed African Americans quarreled over the concept of equality on the basis of race as well as where freedom extended to. After the Civil War, there was a power struggle between the Republican and Democratic parties as they had extremely distinct ideas on whether African Americans should be free and hold citizen rights. African Americans were able to achieve citizenship as well as have equality through the 14th amendment, however the struggle did not finish here, tensions between races remained throughout the decades and the actual use of the amendment was not widespread. During this time, two influential men were able to experience each side of this political spectrum. Robert Smalls was a former slave who was able to gain positions in congress and advocated for political equality throughout the southern states. Wade Hampton, was a highly educated southern planter, war leader and senator who never accepted racial equality, always seeking to end all attempts of reform alongside the Democratic Party. The Reconstruction proposed by congress was meant to abolish slavery and enforce fair labor laws. As this sounds ideal, both Smalls and Hampton were bitterly disappointed with it and would agree that Reconstruction was a failure despite their contrasting political views. In a speech in 1876 Robert Smalls advocates against the removal of federal troops located in the South to enforce the new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Definition Of Corporate Social Responsibility Rogers Telecom s definition of corporate social responsibility is similar to the ISO 26000 in addressing the seven principle subjects, organizational governance, human rights, labour practices, the environment, fair operating practices, consumer issues, and community involvement and development. Although, not all issues belonging to these principles were addressed. The strongest attributes of the Rogers CSR definition supported by their 2013 CSR report are organizational governance, fair operating practices, consumer issues, community involvement and development, and the environment. The weaker attributes of the Rogers CSR definition supported by their 2013 CSR report are human rights and labour practices. Organizational governance and fair operating practices were evident in both Rogers Telecom s CSR definition and report as they were frequently mentioned as an important factor in all business activities. Specifically, Rogers addressed two issues under the fair operating practices principle, anti corruption and fair competition. Rogers approach in addressing the issue of anti corruption is to adhere to the Rogers Business Conduct Guidelines, guidelines that define the expected behaviour from all employees in standards of business conduct, integrity and ethical behaviour. In addition, Rogers Board of Directors must also comply with these guidelines as well as a separate, Directors Code of Conduct and Ethics. It may seem odd or different to admire and acclaim Folly, but there is a definite benefit to foolishness: the freedom to tell only factual information. In Praise of Folly, Erasmus put this independence to good use in repeating to the readers, a civilization significantly besmirched by mature worries, that a person is unable to serve both God and Mammon. He leveled over his irony by promising us that there is merit in being attacked by Folly (7), and closed with the recap that it s Folly and a woman who s been speaking (134), a renunciation that permitted him to be as brutal as he desired to be in his condemnation. The story of bioremediation and its recent development as an oil spill response technology provides an interesting example of how a new environmental technology comes into being. Based on the U.S. experience (highly influenced by the Exxon Valdez oil spill), the history of bioremediation in spill response can be divided into three development periods (after Hoff, 1993): the courtship period until 1989, the honeymoon period from 1989 until 1991, and the establishment period since 1992. 1. Courtship Period (pre 1989) The first courtship period was primarily a research period, when bioremediation was little known outside the microbiology or hazardous waste community. Many published articles from the 1970s and earlier documented the process of microbial degradation of oil, both in the laboratory and in field trials. A number of scientific papers on this topic were published during the 1970s and 1980s, including several review papers covering mechanisms of biodegradation, and papers presenting results from controlled field experiments measuring degradation rates in various environments. Several studies following major oil spills like the Amoco Cadiz measured oil degradation in the environment and confirmed previously published results from laboratory studies (Hoff, 1993). These works established a basic understanding of biodegradation of oil as an important component of the process known as

The Dosage Of Ionizing Radiation Increases The Risk Of Cancer The Dosage of Ionizing Radiation Increases the Risk of Cancer On November 8, 1895, a German physics professor named Wilhelm Roentgen discovered x rays. This advance in technology helped man explore the unknown of the human body without performing surgery. Only the microscope could compete with x rays in the contribution to medical vision (Gunderman 2). After the discovery of x rays, researchers found that there were therapeutic and also cancerous results from radiation emissions. Before this discovery became public, the Radium Watch Company began coating their watch dials with radium in order for them to glow, to allow owners of these watches see the time, even at night. However, the women workers, as watch dial painters, at the company would wet there brushes with their mouths to create a finer point. After months of this practice, many of the women received cancerous tumors and necrosis of the jaw. As a result, most were buried in lead lined coffins because of the high emissions of radiation from their bodies. Lead is now used to shield radiation from patients that are not receiving a full body scan. An x ray is made from a beam of high energy photons passing through the body which are either diminished or blocked entirely when they hit subatomic particles, like bone or metal. The denser and thicker the substance the brighter the image on the radiograph. Both radiological scans, x rays and CT scans both use ionizing radiation to capture the images of the human body. ... • 13. An Interview On College Athletes In an interview, former University of Connecticut (UConn) basketball star Shabazz Napier voiced his opinion on college athletes not getting paid to play. The interview was conducted just after UConn won a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship, in which Napier won the most outstanding player award. The interview conducted by Fox News was only one minute and thirty five seconds long on TV, however in that short time frame, Napier skillfully used rhetoricto support his claims. An analysis through the lens of Aristotle s three proofs, Ethos, Pathos and Logos demonstrates Napier s aptitude to galvanize his audience to support his claims. Ethos was specifically important in Napier s ability to spur the NCAA in considering making changes in their no compensation policy towards college athletes. Aristotle states that Ethos is used to build credibility of a person towards their audience. The rethor not only has to prove that he is knowledgeable of the subject at hand (demonstrating mental habits), but also that he has good moral and emotional habits. Through the interview Napier was able to exhibit all of these characteristics in positively shaping the perception of the audience. Napier exuded good mental habits throughout the interview. He was able to create that perception to the audience by the way in which he addressed each question, while also appearing to address the questions that may subsequently follow. Jackson Epiphenomenal Qualia Analysis In the essay Epiphenomenal qualia, Jackson introduces the mental experience of qualia as an objection to physicalism the idea that all true information is physical information. Beyond this conclusion, Jackson further argues that qualia are epiphenomenal by rebutting three possible responses. I believe that Jackson s objections are valid but unsound, and that epiphenomenalism of qualiais more plausible than its counterargument. As for the knowledge argument which proves that physicalismis false, I agree with Churchland that it is unjustified, but I concur with Jackson s conclusion that physicalism is false. • 20. Western Parenting Vs Western Parenting To be a parent, by definition, is to be or act as a mother or father to (someone). Success, by definition, is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. Parents should want their child to succeed, but the way to do it is very controversial and it can stir many arguments and disputes. Eastern parenting, or Chinese parenting, is very harsh and strict, while Western parenting is a bit more relaxed. I believe that the best way to raise a child is by using a combination of the Western and Eastern parenting styles by letting children pursue their interests, preparing them for the future, and being strict while still understanding every child s limits. First of all, parents should allow children to pursue their interests and allow them to choose what they want to do, whether it be a hobby or an academic career. Parents that use the Eastern parenting style, in this case, highly limit what their child is allowed to do. On the other hand, parents that use the Western parenting style mostly allow children to do as they please, but it has to be used in moderation. Amy Chua is a parent that uses the Eastern parenting style, and she highly limits what her children are able to do, Here are some things that [Chua s] daughters, Sophia and Louisa, were never allowed to do: attend a sleepover, have a playdate, be in a school play, complain about not being in a school play, watch TV or play computer games, choose their own extracurricular activities, get any grade less than an A, not be ... The trustee has power of the property but also duties to perform as a part of their role. The beneficiary is the ultimate owner and has all the associated rights to the property. The beneficiary principle states that in every non charitable trust there must be ascertainable beneficiaries. This means that there must be an actual human to which the court can decide in favour of. This rests on two propositions, firstly, a trust that cannot be enforced must fail. The perpetuity principle can be problematic in that where there is no named beneficiary, or where the trust is for the purpose of maintaining monuments as in the case of Re Hooper. However, in Re Hooper, the settlor had stated that the trustees were to carry out the purpose as far as was legally possible and this was found to be saving words, meaning that the trust was upheld and in line with the perpetuity principle. However, in the absence of such saving words, all trusts will fail. Unlike the genocide in Darfur, we re aware of a developing situation where large scale genocide has not taken place yet. History further lends a hand in paralleling the cordoning in society of minorities such as the Rohingya with that of the black African minorities in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan. The Sudanese government refused to allow NGOs into the Nuba Mountains, where genocide by attrition was taking place. However, a London based human rights group, African Rights, played an instrumental part in both reaching out to the Nuba as well as bringing their plight to the attention of the international community. African Rights was able to gain access to the Nuba Mountains and provide valuable communication logistics to the Nuba, which provided a window to the international community of the human rights violations carried out by the Sudanese government. Similarly, Burmese minorities such as the Rohingyas have been separated from the larger Burmese society. They have very little rights and sustenance. A scenario eerily familiar to that of the Nuba people. We need to insert humanitarians within these cordoned communities to document human rights violations. Next, viral and/or cellular proteins will allocate the genetic code (rDNA) for the wanted growth factor within the cytoplasm and into the nucleus. Manifestation of the growth factor by the genetically transformed target cells can promptly be commenced. The Epidemic Of Ebola Virus Ebola The virus Ebola, or formally known as Ebola haemorrhagic fever, is something most, if not all, Americans have heard of in these past few months since it has taken American media by storm. Ebola is a severe, often fatal illness, with an astonishingly high case fatality rate. It is considered one of the world s most virulent diseases and is transmitted by direct contact with the blood, body fluids and tissues of infected animals or people ( EbolaVirus Disease ). This, however, is not the only aspect of Ebola that should be considered. Even though it is often difficult to accept that humanity has an innate stereotypical attitude and a dormant racism that surfaces in times of distress (like the Ebola outbreak), it is crucial to recognize that the virus Ebola has not only the power to evoke physiological harm, but also political and social harm. It is slowly worsening an already fragile Western society, weakened from previous years of blatant racism and constant fear. Therefore, the naive American public should care to examine the virus Ebola from a sociological viewpoint, in addition to a medical one. Western culture has peculiar views on global disease in the twenty first century, especially since geographical location largely contributes to a global public health inequality. Consequently, the American media s portrayal of people of color, specifically Thomas Duncan and President Barack Obama, contributes to and sheds light on the healthcare disparity in the United States. ... Love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs , an extract from Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is one of the examples of this love throughout literature. First off, in Radley Balko essay, What You Eat Is Your Business he thinks people need to start being responsible for their actions, because maybe it will help people from being so obese. Health Insurances should reward people for having a health style. Radley Balko talks about that if someone is paying for his health medicines, what is stopping him from not having something unhealthy (467). Nutritional testing is being conducted on restaurants by Congress (Balko 467). In addition, in David Zinczenko essay Don t Blame the Eater he indicates unhealthy food places make it easy for kids to get to and are not warning kids about the food they eat. Kids often go for cheaper meals, which usually means going to some fast food place. David Zinczenko said that if you want something healthy, you may have to make a little farther drive for that (463). From 1994 to today childhood cases of Type 2 diabetes went up about 25 percent (Zinczenko 463). When eating at a fast food restaurant people cannot see how much calories they are consuming from their meals. Eating two meals a day from fast food places is not a good idea, because you will consume way more than you should be for calories. If you are trying to watch out for how much calories you have at a fast food place then you should make sure you are considering everything you order. Some places may tell you how many calories is in their burgers or nuggets, but that does not include any sauces you may want (Zinczenko 463 464). At this rate, more people will just become obese and/or have diabetes. Last of all, in Marion Nestle essay, The Supermarket: Prime Real Estate she states that supermarkets manipulate you on buying extra things you do not need. During her research, she realized there were a lot of different studies for designing the layout of the stores (Nestle 499 500). • 40. Trip To Ecuador Research Paper The most impactful event in my life so far was the two week service trip I took to Ecuador with Renbrook in june of 2015. It was a two week service trip in which we would be helping at medical clinics and building wheelchair ramps for a school for disabled kids. I went into the trip having no idea how much of an impact it would have on my life, and I definitely had no idea that I would create strong bonds with people I had never even met. I came out of this tripa different person, a better person. The night before we left for ecuador we were invited to spend the night at Renbrook. That night was the beginning to our bonding, we got pizza and watched a movie and everyone had a great time. Even though we had an early morning flight the next day, we still stayed up until 12 because we were having so much fun. The next morning was rough we had to wake up at 4 to drive to John F. Kennedy airport. We took two flights one to Columbia and then one to Ecuador. When we got to ecuador we first went to our hotel a small one but very nice considering we were in a third world country. For the next week we would be bonding, going on bike rides, walking in caves, and white water rafting. The first week was so fun and I learned so much about everyone on the trip including some new things about myself. After the first week was over I was completely immersed in the ecuadorian culture and the other people on the trip felt like family to me. I did not know it yet ... The trip really made me think of how I should take every opportunity I am handed, for there are kids in other parts of the world that would do anything to have what I ... When I was a young child of five years, I would continually play dress up and dream of becoming a Fashionista that assists movie stars and social elite for their red carpet appearances. I wanted to contribute to others in seeing the beauty in themselves and the world around them. After about eighteen years, nothing has really changed within my mind set. Today, I still dream of working in the fashionindustry, but more importantly, making a difference in the world. In the process of making my fashion dreams become a reality, at seventeen, I secured enrollment at Northeast MississippiCommunity College majoring in fashion merchandising. My first two years at junior college were wonderful, and I thoroughly enjoyed participating in the arts, being the Captain of the Tiger Dancers and Pom Squad, playing as a member of the tennis team, and supporting Prentiss county as Miss Hospitality 2013. These years taught me time management like no other while also leading me down the path of self expression and competitiveness. Finding immense knowledge and encouragement from professors in little classrooms and civilians in a small Mississippi town perfected my willingness to strive to do my utmost best in every circumstance, whether it be reaching my goals or helping others. It had a good balance between good and evil. The producer crushed all the stereotypes in Birth of a Nation, and shows you what it would look like if the south did free the blacks. The film really focuses on even with freedom, even with education, wealth and rights; there are still similar struggles blacks had to go through. No matter what they did to progress. All the characters are sophisticated individuals. The film makes this image seem as a normality. In Birth of a Nation they do the same opening scene with the Cameron s and that being the normality. There are no white villains in Birth of a Nation. The producers go out of their way to portray black stereotypes and make blacks out to be horrible human beings. It s very clear cut that whites are good, blacks are evil. Even the battle between the Camerons and the Stoneman still showed goodness. For example when Ben Cameron was shot at war, Phil had his sister Elsie take care of him. No matter what difficulties are between them, they still do the right thing. Yet when they look at the blacks, they were doing nothing but wrong. Such as when the black man chased Margaret to her death. It s not so black and white in Within Our Gates. They focus more on each individual character. They all have a story and there are reasonings behind their actions. For example Larry Prichard ended up shooting red during a poker game and killing him. Now there was a motive and a purpose in larry s actions. And the good news is, we all have the opportunity to SHIELD UP! How Do I know if I have the spirit of offense? Before we get into what it means to Shield Up, let s first identify if we have the spirit of offense. Even though we are told in James 1:19 to be slow to take offense, we have seen relationships destroyed and people leave their church family over the spirit of offense. Satirists can be divided, however, into two groups with very different purposes. One type mocks simply for the enjoyment of mocking. Vonnegut offers solutions to this problem in Slaughterhouse Five, as he introduces new ways of perceiving our lives. With the increasing amount of free will that is being granted to people around the world, many have no sense of how to use it. Vonnegut is particularly upset with the way that Americans are living and the way in which society is moving. Through his literature, he offers a path for the use of free will with the notion that all people are given the opportunity to better themselves. Through the bettering of the individual comes the bettering of society. Vonnegut s last addition to the literary world is his wantonly satirical novel Timequake. Timequake is devoted to the concept of free will and its dominance in nature. Use examples to support your essay. Landscape painting was a particularly effective vehicle for allegory because it allowed artists to make fictional subjects appear normal, conditioned, acceptable, or destined. Art was not just about the landscape, it actually allowed the spirit of the painter to come alive in their work. The allegory was for moral and spiritual concerns.
