Csu-Long Beach Thesis
1. Discuss some of your concerns about attending CSU Long Beach.
At the moment my biggest concern is not having the ideal class schedule I have my SOAR
orientation soon, but right now I am not sure what classes I need to take in order to complete my
degree. I m also curious to see how different community college and university are. Will class be
different? Moreover, is the coursework more difficult? I believe there is more pressure to do
better now, at CSULB than there was at community college, since the cost is greater and perhaps
professors will expect better. And well, final concern will be getting lost on campus and arriving
late to class. The community college I attended Pasadena City College was small comparing it to
CSULB.

What are your experiences with reading and writing?
I am a first generation American, but due to my family s constant moving between the U.S. and
Mexico, I did not learn English till the age of 10 so around the 5th grade. I was in ESL courses in
middle school. And eventually moved on to regular English in high school and soon enough became
an English honor student. But even then, I experienced great difficulty writing papers, primarily
because I struggled with thesis statements. Reading comprehension is not difficult, especially not,
because I have a tendency of underlining and annotating. Now, after graduating from community
college, I do believe I am a better writer, but I do believe there will always be room for
improvement.
6. What are your favorite things to do when you are not in school or working?
If I am not busy with school or work, I like to spend time with my family, friends, and my pet
birds. They are my main support, and I think I owe to them to make time for them. That is in the
form of a dinner, or spending a day at the beach. My hobbies aside from that, will include reading,
and going to concerts or watching old concert footage on the internet from bands like Led Zeppelin,

General Dwight Eisenhower as a Critical Thinker
Strategic decisions made by General Dwight Eisenhower during WWII were significant and give
excellent examples of four components of Steve Gerras Critical Thinking model. Generals during
World War II faced daily innumerable difficult and grave decisions. Critical decisions made during
WWII did not have the depth and speed of today s modern communications infrastructure.
Eisenhower quoted, Making decisions is of the essence in leadership. 1 During World War II,
while in command of the Mediterranean theater, Eisenhower made the strategic decision of making
the commitment to radiate confidence no matter how dire the circumstances or how pessimistic he
might actually feel. He wrote, My mannerisms and speech in public would always reflect the
cheerful certainty of victory that any pessimism and discouragement that I might ever feel would
be reserved for my pillow. 2 Critical thinking according to Professor Steve Gerras is deliberate.
Gerras Critical Thinking Model components are as follows: clarify the concern, point of view,
assumptions, inferences, evaluation of information, and implications. The model is not meant to be
sequential or linear, however always starts with clarify the concern . Evaluation of Eisenhower s
decision to radiate confidence no matter how dire the circumstances in context to Gerras Critical
thinking model spotlights clarify the concern and point of view . Application of these two
components to his strategic decision demonstrates

If too much inventory builds up, cash is tied up in goods that cannot be sold this is not good news
for the company. Management might have to slash prices, to move out this inventory quickly,
possibly selling its product at a loss. If AR is handled poorly, it means that the company is having
difficulty collecting payment from customers. This is because AR is essentially a loan to the
customer, so the company loses out whenever customers delay payment. The longer a company has
to wait to be paid, the longer that money is unavailable for investment elsewhere. On the other
hand, the company benefits by slowing down payment of AP to its suppliers, because that allows it
to make use of the money longer. Cash to cash cycle time ratio servers in evaluating how effectively
the company utilizes its cash in its business operation cycle.
CCC is most effective with retail type companies, which have inventories that are sold to customers.

Descriptive Writing On The Beach
It was a hot summer day and Amanda was elated her father had agreed to take her brother and
her to the beach. Amanda took a deep breath, taking in the beautiful scent of the ocean air. She
could hear the voices of animals and the hum of pleasant conversations. Amanda glanced up at
the radiant, sapphire sky and the yellow as a lemon sun. It was a sweltering day in July and
Amanda was exhilarated that she was in the turquoise ocean. Once in a blue moon, a refreshing
breeze blew by everyone and gently shook the nearby palm trees. Amanda had on an azure
swimsuit. She hastily peeked back at her rose flip flops to ensure that her impish, youthful brother
hadn t stolen them. Thank goodness, they re still there. Amanda peered into the crystal clear salt
water and saw her immature brother gliding through the water. She examined the beach and saw
her father keeping an eye on her brother and waved at him. Her father waved back, immediately
putting on a humongous smile to mask his uneasy feelings. Amanda noticed her brother who had
started swimming towards her, creating tiny splashes and drops of water glimmered in the
sunlight. Oh, no! Amanda instantaneously dove under the water, hoping her brother would miss
her and not think she was there. But it was too late, her brother had already spotted her and was
trying to make her come up for air. Ugh, well at least I tried. He better have excellent intentions for
bothering me. Amanda popped her head out of the water and gingerly opened her

sympathetic nervous system and the adrenal cortical system. The sympathetic nervous system uses
nerve pathways to initiate reactions in the body, and the adrenal cortical system uses the
bloodstream. The combined effects of these two systems are the fight or flight response. When the
hypothalamus tells the sympathetic nervous system to kick into gear, the overall effect is that the
body speeds up, tenses up and becomes generally very alert. If there s a burglar at the door, you re
going to have to take action fast. The sympathetic nervous system sends out impulses to glands and
smooth muscles and tells the adrenal medulla to release epinephrine and norepinephrine into the
bloodstream. These stress hormones cause several changes in the body, including an increase in
heart rate and blood pressure. At the same time, the hypothalamus releases corticotropin releasing
factor into the pituitary gland, activating the adrenal cortical system. The pituitary gland secretes
the hormone ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone). ACTH moves through the bloodstream and
ultimately arrives at the adrenal cortex, where it activates the release of approximately thirty

Original Sin In The Bible
One of the most commonly known stories of the Bible is the story of Adam and Eve. The story is
contained within that of Genesis, and a crucial moment in this tale is the moment Eve is tempted
by the serpent to go against God s will. This crucial moment is known as original sin, as this
moment is when both Adam and Evefall from God s favor into the suffering and sin that is present
in our modern world. The tribulations that we were exempt from previously were now instated in
our dominion due to this original sin. However, while reading this Biblestory, I did not truly
understand this insight. While analyzing and reading the actual story for the first time, I gained
more insight into this original sin, and God s almighty power over all,... Show more content on

In Milton s Paradise Lost, Satan is characterized as a vengeful fallen angel who, while attempting
to rile his fallen army once again to battle, constantly battles with the inner despair and sorrow he
feels due to his loss against God. Satan struggles to fully realize God s almighty power against
the fallen angels, although the point is made by multiple different fellow commanders. Satan
then focuses his destruction upon God s creation, humans. He believes that by introducing sin to
them, he will grieve God. The epic poem ends the second book with Satan s ascent into Heaven
to trick Adam and Eve. In Paradise Lost, the book s message states that when humans are given
the choice between sin and salvation, the choice of salvation and return to God s grace makes
God s power even stronger than any evil s. Paradise Lost reinstates the insights I claimed through
the story in the Bible, that we must be aware of the choices we make between good or bad, and
that if we are drawn into temptations and sin, God s salvation is always more powerful than any
temporary luxury that temptation

Operations Management At Sainsbury s Value Chain
Operations Management is the systematic (where everything can be defined, measured and
managed) control of processes that translates inputs into services and products (output). All the
processes are linked together to form a supply chain and all the operations are about
transformations (adding value). Two types of operation systems are used : opened and closed loop.
The first one treats time (speed) as a high priority and starts from the input, through the process to
the output. In the opposite, the second one includes a control stage between the process and the
output and, a feedback at the end. In the first part, I m going to describe briefly some of Sainsbury
s operations using Porter s value chain.
Two categories of operations management exist : service or manufacturing based. Services
processes can be analysed through the customer contact matrix, the degree of labour intensity
degree of interaction and customisation, and the volume and variety against customer contact.
In this case, by delivering goods ordered online to customers from a local supermarket, Sainsbury
s more like a service process because their outputs are perishable ; there s a low customer contact
(face to face or moment of truth) ; there s a short response time (feedback is quick) ; it is labor
intensive ; the quality is not easily measured ; and there is low level of customisation (basic
process). It is the downstream part of the supply chain.
The value chain lean system starts with the inbound

Essay on Relationships between Asthma and Air Pollution
Relationships between Asthma and Air Pollution
Professor s comment: This student s research paper synthesizes the results of a well selected group
of articles that explore relationships between asthma and air pollution. That laboratory science is at
base a social enterprise is nicely exemplified by the focus of the studies she reviews. In drawing
from the articles she reviews and in organizing her paper, the student maintains a good balance
between discussing air borne pollutants themselves and their physical effects, between analysis and
implication. The result is a readable and interesting explanation of current work on this increasingly
important subject.

In order to reset EPA air quality standards and to determine which therapeutic actions can be applied
to patients to prevent deterioration of their asthma conditions (Neukirch et al., 1998), researchers
have found it increasingly necessary to discover the relationships between asthma symptoms and
episodes of air pollution and to identify the pollutants that are responsible for the rise in the number
of people seeking respiratory medical treatment.
Pollutants of Concern
Epidemiologic studies have determined that the following are the major air pollutants
contributing to respiratory diseases: sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3),
and particulate matter (PM) less than 10 mm and less than 2. 5 mm in diameter (PM10 and
PM2.5, respectively) (Baldi et al., 1999; Chew et al., 1999; McConnell et al., 1999; McDonnell
et al., 1999; Neukirch et al., 1998; Ostro et al., 1998; Sheppard et al., 1999; Taggart et al., 1996).
Particulate matter is the product of solid and liquid particles being directly emitted into the air from
such things as diesel engine soot, road and agricultural dust, and manufacturing processes, while
SO2, NO2, and O3, are predominately byproducts of fuel combustion.
In controlled studies of the inhalation of either SO2 or O3, subjects with asthma have been shown
to be especially sensitive to these pollutants, with decrements in pulmonary function, increases in
asthmatic bronchial hyperresponsiveness,

The United Kingdom is a country located in the North West of Europe that has four parts, England,
Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The capital city is London, which the River Thames flows
through from Thames Head to 140 miles later at Teddington Lock where it ends. Compared to the
United States, the United Kingdomis quite small in fact it is approximately the size of New England
. Despite being diminutive in size, there is layer upon layer of cultures and history. Also, it has

Each wave of migrations and invasions brought different cultures and added to what is now
modern day the United Kingdom. The Romans left their numerous long roads, whose names
became lost in time since there was no written records or inscribed sources. Built by the Roman
army and long after they returned home, their roads survived, and some routes are in use today.
The Normans built fortified castles, which was a new concept since before that time there was
none in the United Kingdom. One example is Restormel Castle, which is in a circular in shape as
well as surrounded by an entrenched circular ditch for protection against attacks. The Vikings left
parts of their language in the names of the towns and villages, such as names ending in by are
where Vikings settled first. Places ending in Thorpe are their secondary settlements, and places that
end in ton is for town or city.

The Determination Of The Rio Grande
Blair, Akhil, Kyle, Divya (1C 9A) The Determination of the Rio Grande being the Texas official
border was influenced by many policies and beliefs. Although one large piece was influenced by
the Manifest Destiny. Manifest Destiny was a belief that God wanted America to expand all the
way to the west coast of the American Continent. The Americans wanted the Rio Grandeto be the
Texasborder because of this belief. However, Mexicoobjected and claimed that the Nueces River
was the Texas border. The United States did not want the Nueces River to be the border because
it did not fulfill the Manifest Destiny. So then the only way to make the Rio Grande the border
was to push Mexican out of the area. American had to make Mexico recognize that the Texas
border was the Rio Grande.
The Rio Grande is the fifth longest river to run through the United States and the 20th longest in
the world. It flows 1,900 miles from the San Juan Mountains of Southwestern Colorado to the Gulf
of Mexico. Along its way, it travels 175 miles through Colorado, 470 miles through New Mexico,
and the remaining 1,240 miles through Texas. Currently, the river is used as a border from Texas
(United States), to Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo LeГіn, and Tamaulipas (Mexico). During this
conflict, Mexico had a different point of view. They Claimed and wanted the Texas Border to be
the Nueces river. This was because Mexico wanted most of the rich land in Texas. They also
thought that the Mexicans had the right to

Manchurian Candidate And Animal Farm Comparison Essay
Despite having vastly different plotlines, characters, settings, the stories of Animal Farm and
Manchurian Candidate have strikingly similar parallels when it comes to the basis of theme.
Animal Farm is a simpler, almost light hearted take on a communistic society, told through the
perspective of farm animals who rebelled and overtook the farm; these animals represent those
involved in the Russian revolution, as well as the rise of communism. Manchurian Candidate has a
story that is a bit more rough on the perception of communism; it s a story of a man who is
struggling with corruption and brainwashing to further a communistic agenda. While both of these
stories seem to have only a few ideals in common, they both share a common central theme

Compare The Relationship Between William Wordsworth And I...
From my reading of both the Grasmere Journals written by Dorothy Wordsworth and also the
poem I wandered lonely as a cloud written by William Wordsworth, I believe that there is a strong
relationship between the two. I think that both William and his sister Dorothy experienced the same
relationship with the Daffodil s they saw. The only difference is that William expressed his
experience through poetry while Dorothy expressed hers through diaryentries. From the evidence
we have with the dates of when both were written, I believe William wrote his poem based on
Dorothy s journals. I would be of the opinion that Dorothy s journals were written from her
experience alone while Williams s poem was written under the influence of Dorothy s Grasmere...

Much of Dorothy s diary entries include reflective moments in her life. As Sara Crangle said
[T]here is much of this solitary, reflective image that can be transposed to the larger depiction of
Wordsworth s life. Dorothy s journals are mostly written either at the beginning of the day or in
the evening. This time of day is when she is either reflecting on the day gone by or thinking
about the day ahead. As she is often out walking with William or Coleridge it is probable that
she is reflecting on these events quite a lot. On May 14th she writes I sate a long time upon a
stone at the margin of the lake, and after a flood of tears my heart was easier. Dorothy explains
how after she reflects she becomes happier. Reflection is a sense of relief for her. This sense of
relief shows how significant writing diary entries are for her. They are her escape where she can be

Walter J. Paulits Ambivalence Of Young Goodman Brown
Walter J. Paulits examines the character Goodman Brown through his actions of attending a
meeting with the witches and falling for the temptations of the Devil. Goodman Brown was a man
of good nature, yet his attendance to a meeting with the Devil changes everything. He discards his
wife s advice and starts on his journey through the woods. While falling for each of the Devil s
temptations, he proceeds into the woods leading to the climax of the walk into the woods with the
meeting with the witches. Paulits examines Brown as a man who represents ambivalence through
his actions in the woods. I agree with Paulits examination of ambivalence of Young Goodman

Spiritually, he is tormented by the Devil because of his willing to tempt and persuade which leads
to his lack of trust in his wife (Paulits). Brown regrettably never sees the ambiguity that is
necessary, yet the Devil has created two meanings as one and filled it with one of the feelings
contending with him...ambivalence has led Brown to the point where ambiguity confuses him
(Paulits 582). I believe that Goodman Brown was a weak character and eventually becomes highly
affected by the temptations of the Devil. He fights with his faith in humankind and his own self
(Pualits). Doubt destroys Brown which leads to his potential downfall of a caring human being. His
decisions had consequences that he was unfortunately unaware of, leading Brown to disregarding
his wife, listening to the Devil, and ultimately becoming a changed man within his own community.
The ambivalence of Goodman Brown gets him in trouble because he has constant mixed feelings
and contradictory ideas leading him to listen to the Devil rather than his wife,

Comparison Of Isaac And Jephthah s Daughter
When examining the stories of Abraham s willingness to sacrifice Isaac, and Jephthah s sacrifice
of his daughter there are similarities. For instance, both Isaac and Jephthah s daughter were both
only children, and both were willing participants. However, there are also distinct differences as to
how both of these sacrifices initiated. The story of Isaacs sacrifice starts with Godtesting Abraham
s by telling him to take his son to Moriah and to offer him as a burnt offering (Authorized King
James Version, Genesis 22:1 2). Furthermore, upon arrival Abraham goes the process of the
sacrifice, but tells Isaac that God will provide the lamb (AKJV, Genesis 22:8). The complete

Secondly, before being willing to lead Gilead he had to be assured that he would become their
captain (AKJV, Judges 11:8 11, Tullock, McEntire, 2012). The third difference was Abraham
simply followed God s instructions, while Jephthah seemingly takes his time sending numerous
messages to the King of Ammon (AKJV, Judges 11: 12 28). Finally, the vow Jephthah makes
appears to be Jephthah s doing rather than Gods, and as this is likely a suzerainty covenant
Jephthah was obliged to uphold his end of the bargain (Wilcox, 2014). The basis of this premise
is backed by the passage ...for I have opened my mouth unto the Lord, and I cannot go back.

Rama s Quest For Sita, Justice And For Dharma
The tale of Sugriva in the Ramayana is crucial to Rama s quest for Sita, justice and for Dharma.
The story serves a number of purposes within the Hindu epic such as giving the reader an
understanding of the relationship between brothers, friends, and rulers as well as giving us a
complicated but important look at a different side of Rama. Sugriva s story within the context of the
Ramayanais quite different than the others because of a few controversial topics and questions
that come up while reading it. All of them pertain to Rama and his development not only as the
leader of the state but as a god. Rama, the epitome of virtue and valor, is the incarnation of the
Hindu god, Vishnu. As this incarnate of the most widely praised Hindu god, there are certain
qualities that are expected of him. These qualities are exemplified throughout the Ramayana with
the exception of one or two acts within Sugriva s story. Rama s role in this tale seems to be a
blemish on his otherwise virtuous and spotless history. I will first present a synopsis of this tale in
order to build a foundation for my argument that Rama is actually justified in his actions with
Sugriva, and towards Vali, which are so easily condemned as not god like.
Sugriva is the brother of Vali, the ruler of the kingdom of Kishkindha. Kishkindha is the home of
the Vanaras, a species of monkeys with human qualities who later aid Rama in retrieving his wife,
Sita. The kingdom of Kishkindha was disturbed one day by the Mayavi, a

How Does Justine s Trial Affect The Treatment Of Women In...
Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein, lived in a time period of great inequality between men and
women where women were restricted in their roles and rights. During Justine s trial, Shelley not
only strives to argue against male dominance in society but also to elucidate irony in the
subjection of women through overemphasis on male power over women. Shelley uses abstract
diction to show Justine s presumed guilt and inability to defend herself against her accusers
because of her class and gender and also makes a combined emotional and ethical appeal that pokes
at women s gullibility. She also juxtaposes Justine s innocence and Victor s guilt in order to
accentuate how Victor, a man, negatively influenced the outcome of Justine s trial. By creating...

Shelley reveals Justine s justification for confession as being a result of man s manipulation.
Justine cries, The God of heaven forgive me! Ever since I was condemned, my confessor has
besieged me... I almost began to think that I was the monster that he said I was. He threatened
excommunication and hellfire in my last moments if I continued to obdurate. The jailor s threat of
higher punishment in afterlife with exocommunication and hellfire allow Shelley to expose the
pressure men put on women. She also alludes to God of heaven to depict the measure that man
would go to obtain power over women, which questions her audience s ethics in whether God
should be used to attain control over another person. The authoritative power of Justine s jailors is
exploited to forcefully manipulate and conjure a confession, evoking sympathy from readers for her
gullibility. Justine s pushed confession and justification for it further depicts a weakness of women
and overbearingness of men that Shelley is constantly reiterating to prove the deep inequality
between men and

Time Machine Fear
H. G. Wells novella The Time Machine is a story about the price for a life of luxury. Through his
writing, he warns society of what could happen if they continued the path they were on. Arriving in
the future, thanks to the time machine that Wells created, readers observe a world where society
has split into two species. In Victorian England, there was a fear residing in the upper classthat the
working class would engage in an uprising and throw them from power. This brought the desire
for security, which is what the Eloi hold in the year 802,701. Degeneration occurs when people
live in a society that requires little work and there is dependency on others for food, shelter, and
clothing. No physical labour means extinction of the survival... Show more content on

These include poor air and water quality and the cramped conditions of working class areas of
cities; poor diet; and the use of narcotics such as alcohol, tobacco, or opium (Vorachek 200).
Wells used these environmental factors when creating the living space of the Morlocks. They
lived underground in dark tunnels which the Time Traveller described as very stuffy and
oppressive, and the faint halitus of freshly shed blood was in the air (Wells 54). The cannibalism
of the Morlocks also played on another fear of society in the fin de siГЁcle. Since there was a
fear of the working class causing the degeneration of society, the cannibalistic activities can be seen
as representing the imminent proletarian revolution feared by some following the growth of
militant trade unionism and working class political organisation (Partington 59). The Time
Traveller addressed this fear and how the upper class seemed to have combated it. He stated The
too perfect security of the Upperworlders had led them to a slow movement of degeneration, to a
general dwindling in size, strength and intelligence (Wells 49). The Eloi became comfortable in
their security that they no longer needed to defend themselves; consequently, leading them to being
slaughtered by the

The Conflict Between The Between Civilizational Blocks,...
Huntington predicted that future clashes will occur between civilizational blocks, Muslim and
Christians or Muslin and Hindu for example. However, the Lebanese and Bangladeshi cases show
that clashes occur between civilizations as shown above, but also within civilizational blocks or
even within religious groups . Before going further into Lebanons and Bangladesh s history, a brief
review of Islammust be done. Muslims are split into two mains branches: Sunnis and Shia. The
origin of this division was a dispute right after the death of the Islam s founder, Prophet
Muhammad, in 932. The subject of the dispute is Who should lead the Muslim community? . In
the whole world there is a broad majority of Sunnis, who represents between 80 to 90% of
Muslims and Shia Muslims are representing only 10% of the Muslim population. Shia Muslims and
Sunnits Muslims share many fundamental practices and beliefs, these two religions have co exists
for many centuries. However, some ritual, theology or religious organisation triggers to sporadic
fights. During many century Sunni Muslims were marginalized, but in 80 s, we saw their
emergence, in Lebanon with creation of Hezbollah and in Irak after Sadam Hussein s fall. Lebanon
is composed by approximatively 50% of Muslims: 20% Shia and 25% of Sunnites. This country s
current tensions are not opposing Christians to Muslims, as Huntington would have predicted, but
rather inside of the Muslim civilization opposing Sunni Muslims to Shia

Advertising and Experience Design Strategies
In the business world today, marketers have various options on how to promote and sell their
products and services. On top of the traditional methods of advertising such as print adverts and
direct marketing, today there is web based advertising, email advertising as well as many social
media sites such as Twitter, You tube, Linked In and Facebook. Businesses have now learn that
traditional methods of advertising are not as effective as they used to be. Marketers must realize
that promotion and communication have changed due to the Internet and technological
advancement (Molan, 2011, pp.34). Therefore, due to the existence of a range of advertising
channels, marketing executives must effectively manage the integrated marketing communications
(IMC) to achieve desired results (Laric Lynagh, 2010, pp.109). These IMC include the use of
social media, experience design and advertising.
This paper analysis the IMC strategies of Dell Incorporation (Dell Inc.) in promoting and
advertising its products. The discussion will further analyze and compare Dell Inc. s strategies
with that of its major competitors. Dell recently entered the industry of tablets by launching its
products Latitude 10 devices and XPS 10. The company had to go back to the drawing board and
create effective marketing strategies to introduce and create awareness of the

Aaron Hernandez
Why Did Aaron Hernandez Kill Odin Lloyd?
Aaron Hernandez a very youthful accomplished NFL player with a 40 million dollar contract will
now be serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole. This is all due to him being
convicted of murdering long term companion Odin Lloyd. In June of 2013 Lloyd was shot seven
times and found dead near the player s home. The prosecution had prodigious and significant
amounts of evidence against Hernandez. Surveillance video ten minutes after the murder shows
surveillance of Aaron in his own home walking with what resembles a gun. Text messages from
Lloyd and Hernandez shows intent from them meeting up with each other that same momentous
night. The only part missing out of this case in the motive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One example is the image on Hernandez holding a black object that appeared to be a gun.
Although no one could tell for sure what this object was, more than likely it was a gun. The
prosecution had government experts and lay witnesses to present to the jurors that this was
more than likely a gun. Other evidence introduced was a pair of red sneakers earlier on in the
trial. Jurors didn t know what was so important about this evidence but once the prosecution
explained about the foot tracks later on this made sense. So the jury had to go back to the
evidence that they were presented earlier and put the clues together to perceive the evidence.
Now the million dollar question is why this talented NFL player committed such crimes with a
40 million dollar contract at risk. What happened that made him so angry? Odin Lloyd knew a
lot about Hernandez it seems that the more people know about him the more suspicious he gets.
Aaron seems to have a paranoid type of personality partly from his drug usage with angle dust
and marijuana. His brain doesn t function properly while he is on these drug making him quickly
flustered and always thinking someone is out to get him or disrespect him. This successful NFL
player is convicted of murdering his close friend also he is fighting two more first degree murder
charges. Also a lawsuit for shooting on of his friends

Essay on East of Eden With Cain and Abel
Gandhi once said, I have also seen children successfully surmounting the effects of an evil
inheritance. That is due to purity being an inherent attribute of the soul .
The novel East of Eden by John Steinbeck is an allegory to the biblical story of Cain and Abel,
and many of its characters become embodiments of both good and evil. As they struggle to
overcome what has been decided for them they are taught they hold the power to overcome and
rise above their destiny s. When the Hebrew idea of timshel is introduced to the allegory of Cain

the downfall of him because it prevents him from seeing a person for who they really are. His
kind nature ultimately is the reason he is able to be tricked by Cathy s manipulative ways.
However, after believing he is left with nothing and letting himself wallow in self pity, the
honorable and wise Samuel Hamilton reminds him of an important story. Mr. Hamilton reminds
Adam that King James of the bible once said, thou salt prevail over sin , however it is up to the
man to rise above his pain and mistakes. Adam, still feeling sorry for himself, is hesitant to
believe Samuel s advice. However, after making a visit to his wife Cathy in her new life as a
whore, he finally realizes he can be okay with out her. He realizes that his children deserve a
father better than one who is in love with a whore. He sees through Cathy s manipulation and
decides that he can live happily with what he has. Adam confirms his choice to overcome Cathy
saying, I seemed to come out of a sleep, in some strange way my eyes have been cleared. A
weight is off me (Steinbeck 328). Adam rises above the Cathy he once idolized and allows
himself to see who she really is. In result not only does he realize the improved Eden he can build

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Solar Panels
Solar panels have become increasingly popular and increasingly common, but there is a huge
disadvantage to using them; they require a lot of space. To power the average US home one
would need 600 square feet of space about 55 square meters which costs $55,000 almost
€70,000 (Statistic Brain). Now researchers at the Michigan State University believe that they
have found a solution to make solar panels more space efficient. A team of researchers at the
Michigan State University has developed solar panels that are transparent. The advantage of this
is that [they] can be placed directly over a window to harvest the sun s energy (Mail Online) and
still be transparent. Usually the solar cells are blue, but the researchers managed to use transparent
luminescent solar concentrators (TLSC) (Extreme Tech) to make the cells transparent. TLSC is
made of organic salts, which absorb specific non visible wavelengths of ultraviolet and infrared
light (Extreme Tech). The cell converts these wavelengths into a different infrared light through a
glow. The glow is then guided to the edge of the cell which uses thin strips of photovoltaic solar
cells (Mail Online) to convert the light energy into electricity, just like the normal solar panels. The
cells appear to be transparent because [They] do not absorb or emit light in the visible spectrum
(Mail Online).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Extreme Tech the TLSC currently has an efficiency of around 1% (Extreme Tech),
but scientists estimate that at least 5% efficiency should be possible. Hailtek GmbH recently
managed to achieve transparency levels of 40% with an efficiency level of over 7% (Hailtek),
which proves the researcher s estimate. To make the cells cost effective though, one could buy
enough to cover a whole building or wall. Despite the lack of efficiency in the cell, there are
several advantages to having a fully transparent solar

The Hoover Dam
Review of Literature
I. Introduction to the Hoover Dam According to the Cobuild Advanced Learning Dictionary, a
dam is defined as, A wall that is built across a river in order to stop the water flowing and to make a
lake. The Hoover Dam is located in the Colorado River between Arizona and Nevada. It was first
called the Boulder Dam but was later named the Hoover Dam. It was named after President Herbert
Hoover. Hoover was not only president but also an engineer, and when he was Secretary of
Commerce (before being President) he urged the construction of the dam. The dam is 726 feet tall
and is about 1200 feet wide. The Hoover Dam was starting to be built in March of 1931.

This is because of a drought in Lake Mead and a high demand for the water in the Colorado River.
If the water level falls too low, the dam will no longer be able to generate power. This is causing
new workers to make five new wide head turbines that are being designed to be used by 2017.
These turbines are made to work with less flow of water.
II. How It Was Built There were many steps to building the Hoover Dam. The first step was to
blast the canyon walls of the Black Canyon. The blasting of the canyon walls helped make four
diversion tunnels to move the constant flow of the Colorado s River water around where the
workers were constructing the dam. There were two tunnels made on each side of the canyon.
When it was summer the tunnels would be very very hot ( about 140, but in the winter the
tunnels would be the exact opposite. When the canyon walls were blasted the extra rock was
then used to make a different route for the Colorado River. After blasting the walls and clearing
the rock, workers would then clear the walls of the Black Canyon. During the clearing of the
walls, the workers carried 44 pound jackhammers to get rid of the unstable rock. Workers hung to
heights of 800 feet to do this treacherous

It also proves that because of the new things we have found out, we can begin to look even
deeper to uncover more of the unknown about our universe. By the Hubble Telescope getting
images of the Butterfly Nebula, we can truly see how stars are formed. This helps support the
theory of the Nebular Hypothesis because now that we have images of a nebula and how stars
form from it, we can prove that that was the way our star, the Sun, was formed. The discovery of
dark matter helps us realize how much mass there truly is in the universe and can help us
determine the future of the universe. Hubble discovering the age of the universe helps us to date
when certain events have occurred and have an understanding of how long it took for it to form. It
has also proved the Big Bang Theory because it discovered distant galaxies using redshift and
shows how the universe came from a small area and started expanding, which is still continuing
today. Overall, Hubble s discoveries have opened up the door to many more

Analysis Of The Man In Richard Wright s The Man Who Was...
In Richard Wright s The Man Who Was Almost a Man, Dave finds himself throughout the course of
the story. Throughout the story, Dave is constantly seeking the pleasure of obtaining and then
eventually shooting a gun in order to be a man and find himself. However, Dave does not expect
the consequences that are to follow the pursuit of pleasure. The moral of the story pertains to the
role pleasure and its consequences have in development and finding oneself. The story narrates a
common, but little talked about problem, that runs rampant in today s society. In the story The Man
Who Was Almost a Man, Richard Wright illustrates Dave s development, or lack thereof, through
the symbols of the gun, the train, and the mule.
The most obvious symbol mentioned in this story is the gun. Throughout the story, the gun is
constantly shown as a symbol for power, as well as masculinity and independence. Several times
throughout the course of the story the narrator states, If anybody could shoot a gun, he could
(Wright 222). In the fields, Dave is treated as a child, and he believes that he is an adult and
should be treated as once, which includes owning a gun. Dave is disillusioned by the gun, and
believes that it will solve all of his problems and strengthen his weaknesses, including granting him
independence. Dave fails to realize that not being able to properly operate a gun only relinquishes
freedom. This can be further evidenced when Dave accidentally shoots Jenny, the mule. This
situation should have put an end to Dave s obsession with power and guns, but instead he was still
fascinated, demonstrating his lack of maturity and development. Overall, the gun demonstrates the
maturity, independence, and developmental level that Dave wishes to achieve, but severely lacks.
Mr. Hawkins s mule, Jenny, represents Dave. Overall, Dave fears working on the fields under
everyone else for the rest of his life, constantly being treated as a child. Dave connects with the
mule and consciously draws connections between the two of them such as the time Dave states,
They treat me like a mule, n then they beat me (Wright 221). Dave believes he is treated like a
mule, and believes there is little hope for anything

life, but continuously been faced with maintenance issues and part availability for an aging
aircraft. The studies that have been accomplished have validated the overall need for companion
trainers, however, there has been limited studies conducted that focused on the tactical relevance
of a companion trainer. This study builds on the previous requirements defined for a B 2
companion trainer, and adds tactical requirements in order to recommend a solution that
achieves both objectives. The Nature of the Problem This research is necessary because T 38s
are aging out at all units. The T 38A at Whiteman AFB, MO, currently reaches its end of service
life in 2028. Currently, the B 2s end of service is 2058, which highlights the urgent requirement
for a replacement trainer. B 2 pilots fly limited sorties due to the size of the B 2 fleet and the
nature of stealth aircraft. Stealth aircraft require specific Low Observable (LO) maintenance
which is both time consuming and costly. Due to the limited sorties, B 2 pilots have utilized a
CTP since 1993 to provide additional time necessary for crews to maintain flight currency and
continue to develop airmanship skills . In 2011, an independent study was performed by Michal

victim of some form of trauma. Trauma can come in the form of experiencing natural disasters
such as hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, or floods. Personal traumas such as being robbed,
assaulted, raped, physically or sexually abused, or tortured can cause PTSD. Those who have
suffered extreme illness such as Cancer and AIDS may experience it. And even those who have
watched their loved ones suffer through extreme illnesses can succumb to the disorder. They

viewing media coverage of a traumatic event can even get PTSD. There were people viewing

Organic Food Vs Organic Foods
Organically grown foods are not new to the world, they have been around since Native
Americans lived on the land. Most people do not buy organic goods because of the cost and fear
that the foods have been contaminated with different types of disease insects carry. Some do not
even know what organic foods are; organic foods are foods produced by organic farming. while the
standards differ worldwide, organic farming in general features cultural, biological, and mechanical
practices that foster recycling of resources, promote ecological balance a conserve biodiversity
(Arnett, 1). The U.S Department of Agriculture(USDA) regulates the organic foodand make sure it
is clean enough for human consumption. Different health organizations around the country try to
encourage people to add organic to their diet. Conventional food chemicals are polluting the soil
and finding their way into people s water systems and slowly destroying their bodies. The
destruction finds its way through the consumption of the food or the chemicals in the water.
Despite the cost difference, organically grown foods are better than non organic foods because
they are healthier for human consumption, are more sustainable for the environment, and support
the local food movement. All over the world people are making the switch to organic because it is
a better choice for one s health. Some people may not even know what organic grown food is.

Although the Taliban s territory is distinctly Afghanistan, their Pakistani foundation resonates
throughout much of their history and structure as an international support and through their ties

The Watsons Book Report
The book I chose to read was called ВЁThe Watsons Go to Birmingham 1963ВЁ by Christopher
Paul Curtis. Admittedly, I did quite enjoy some events that occurred throughout the story. No doubt
that there were lots of quirky, hilarious moments that actually got me to chuckle quite a bit.
Furthermore, there were also lots of historically accurate events that occurred throughout the book.
On the contrary, though, there were also a couple of dull and fictional events throughout the story.
Anyhow, I would have to say that this is quite and interesting book, and I would recommend it to
others.
The story begins in Flint, Michigan, 1993 and revolves around a colored skinned family name the
Watsons. The whole story takes perspective of a little boy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Eventually, after researching the real life story of this book, I found it to be true about the Church
bombing. According to wikipedia.org, there was a bombing at the Baptist Church, Birmingham,
Alabama, 1963. There were indeed four girls who were killed, and another girl was badly injured
and went blind afterwards. As described in the book, the Church bombing happened in
Birmingham, Alabama, 1963 and well as the four girls who were killed. Hereafter, I also
discovered that the racial events in the book to be true. According to socialwelfarehistory.com,
the 1950 s and 60 s were a time of segregation. Specifically, it was a time where slavery was
ending, but the whites were not satisfied, so they decided to pass laws that mandated Separate but
equal ; likewise, the laws meant that black people had to attend separate schools and churches, use
public bathrooms marked for Colored Only , ate in a separate section of a restaurant, and had to sit
in the rear of a bus. As described in the book, the father mentions a Coloreds Only bathroom, but it
would ve been nicer if the author mentioned about the segregation to better explain the timeline.
Though the author did a very well job on using history throughout the book, there was still some
parts that are quite indeed fiction. For example, the main characters, Kenny and his family (the
Watsons), are pure fiction. To summarize, I believe that the author

Computer literacy The impact of mobile computing
INF 103
Bonita Spight Williams
September 8, 2014
Mobile computing is growing at an extremely rapid rate and you can see it everywhere you go.
You are probably doing it yourself multiple times a day and don t even realize it. Phones, laptops,
tablets, cloud storage and wireless networks that we use everyday are just a few elements of
mobile computing. A survey listed by Bowles states that 26% of smartphone users makes them feel
like they are being more productive than without them. (Bowles 2013) I can remember taking
typing class in high school and now almost every school in America issues tablets to their students.
In order to fully discuss mobile computing we first have to ... Show more content on

There are a few highly advance word processing apps like Microsoft web apps, Polaris and
documents to go for the iPad. (Bowles 2013) I have used both Polaris and Microsoft but have
not tried documents to go. Polaris was extremely good on my Android Galaxy S3 smartphone
and let me do almost everything I could do at my desk out and about. I was a deployment manager
for the Air Force at the time so I always need to be able to view and edit Excel documents on the
fly. It was great to just be able to do it without having to call the office and have someone else do it
or try to make a mental note to do it later. I can say it saved my backside several times.
The iPhone was first release in 2007 and it was the first handheld device that really advanced the
web browsing experience (Newton, 2008). It was such an important event that TIME Magazine
awarded it with the invention of the year.
According to Newton this also was the signal that web marketing was entering a new day and age.
Say hello to the mobile web. You no longer needed to be tethered to your computer to browse the

Causes Of Crime
Causes of Crime
Crime is a part of life that all nationals must manage as it appears to have been around as long as
human progress itself. Crime has violated groups for a considerable length of time and I think one
declaration is that crime is more pervasive in poor inward city neighborhoods than it is in
reciprocals that are more affluent. I think the three noteworthy reasons for crime stem from an
absence of training, living in destitution, and being brought up in a solitary parent home.
Training is a great deal more critical today than it was before. The quality and amount of training
a man gets I accept is a determinate of how a person succeeds in life and what kind of lifestyle
they live before others. I likewise trust that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For me we live in a general public where individuals are judged not by what kind of individual
they are, but rather by what they have. My status in the public eye might be judged by what sort
of auto I drive, what kind of garments I wear, or even by the brand of telephone I have. To get
these things to have the capacity to fit into society a few people may choose not to work hard and
save up, their covetousness overwhelms them and they swing to violations that will make them a
lot of cash rapidly.
To wrap things up from my point of view being raised in a single parent home or in a broken
family can affect crime. Young men and women from broken families may have a substantially
weaker feeling of association with their neighborhood and are more probable inclined to misuse
their individuals to fulfill their neglected needs or goals. This thusly can add to loss of a sense
of community and to the breaking down of neighborhoods into social disorder and brutal crime.
In the event that policymakers are to manage the underlying drivers of crime then they likewise
need to manage the fast ascent of illegitimacy. Children that are raised in these kinds of homes
may confront dismissal from other kids, battle in school, and take an interest in gangs. The
absence of devotion and the climate of dismissal or strife inside the family may lessen the child s
involvement of his own life as one of adoration, commitment, and a place to feel wanted. Rather, it

Pros And Cons Of Social Hierarchy Theory
This particular model is well established in today s modern communities. However, there are
certain disadvantages of the said model. It does not take into consideration social aspects such as
standard of living and the financial system as a whole. There are several other factors other than
biological that are responsible for an illness in individuals such as hierarchyand power that vastly
affects a person s health in today s world.
Hierarchy is defined as the categorization of collection of individuals in accordance with their
financial, societal and professional position in the society. Individuals are divided on the basis
of race, religion, class, ethnicity and many more factors which in turn have great impact on the
health and services provided to individuals in these distinct categories. Firstly, we will discuss
social dominance theory which was developed by Sidanius and Pratto in the year 1999. The
theory describes the source of societal hierarchies and how these classifications boost certain
groups and adversely affect people in particular groups (Moss, 2016). According to this theory,
there are dominant and subordinate groups and there exists inequality in both these groups.
There are three different arrangement of hierarchy in all developed economies on the basis of
age, gender and subjective reasons such as ethnic group, race, rank, belief and faith. There are
five key determinants of this theory. To start with, governing groups possess dominance over
other minor groups. Also societal background greatly impacts these groups. It is more prevalent in
males than females and is affected by traits of people and socialization happenings. We further
discuss Karl max s theory of socialism which classifies individuals in society into three groups
namely upper, middle and lower class (Hierarchy structure, 2017). Normally known as the Marxist
Social Hierarchy, the said theory explains that the wealthiest individuals owning land belongs to
upper class, individuals who work for upper class and sells their talent in return of money
comprises of middle class. Lastly, less earning group with no property comprised the lower class.
There have been discrepancies amongst all these groups as far as health and health care

Summary Of The Perils Of Indifference
Holocaust survivor, Elie Wiesel, in his speech, The Perils of Indifference, argues that indifference
can destroy mankind as it can obliterate a person s humanity. He supports his claim by first
expressing his gratitude for his audience for their fight against insouciance to gain their trust, then
uses logical reasoning to convey that the United Stateshas committed acts of indifference to
showcase the severity of the situation, and evokes emotion by proclaiming how children endure
indifference. Wiesel s purpose is to expose the harsh reality that apathyimposes on its victims to
bring awareness of the issue in hope that the audience acts upon it. He adopts an empathetic tone for
government officials and politicians who influence society.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Wiesel proclaims that We see their faces, their eyes. Do we hear their pleas? Do we feel their
pain, their agony? Every minute one of them dies of disease, violence, famine. Wiesel specifically
utilities children as examples of victims of indifference as it is an easy way to induce the audience
to gain sympathy for the victims who endure apathy, and ultimately will want to create change.
Children are seen as helpless beings due to the fact that they depend a considerable amount on
others. Due to this reality, children are usually more vulnerable to impassivity as they become
much more impotent as they receive little or no aid in their fight against indifference. This method
is used in many subject matters such as the United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF) who
provides humanitarian assistance to children in developing countries. The UNICEF puts out
many commercials to help hungry children in developing countries; however, children aren t
the only ones who are hungry. There are many adults and some elderly who face starvation as
well, but using footage of starving children provokes more emotion from consumers in first
world countries who are the ones who donate money and food to those children out of sympathy
for them as children are universally known to be dependent on others and are seen as helpless
beings. Wiesel utilizes the same strategy in his speech. He could use other examples of victims
of apathy, but ultimately employs children as an examples for the purpose of inducing emotion
out of his audience. Wiesel also inputs this emotional appeal at the end of his speech as a final
attempt to bring awareness to his audience about the severity of insouciance to prompt them to
create change. It is as if it is a final call to action as he ends the speech carried by profound fear and
extraordinary hope. This fear is evoked and supported by

Essay about Forever Young in the Poem Old Man Dreams by...
In the poem, The Old Man Dreams by Oliver Wendell Holmes, Holmes demonstrated that an old
man craved to be young again. Holmes supports his message by writing the poem as an extended
metaphor by comparing youth to old age. At the end of the stanzas, he reveals that the old man
didn t just want to be a young boy again, but he also wanted to be a father and a husband, too. In
conclusion, one can understand that the theme of Holmes poem is to be forever young and to be
with his loved ones. Oliver Wendell Holmes used imagery, symbolism and rhymescheme to
illustrate the character s desire to be young again. One can also believe that the purpose of this
poem was to display the hunger of youthfulness for which the man lust for.This... Show more

The intention is to pull the reader in by showing how fun and bright youth is. He used rainbow
instead of black to appeal to the reader that being young is a pleasant time. He also revealed in
this quote that the old man wanted to be a husband and a father again, too. This part in the poem
foreshadows that the old man wants to be young again because when he was younger, he had a
wife and child. Therefore, one can infer that the old man probably lost his loved ones, or maybe
something happened between them when he got older. Holmes also used imagery to describe
the angel in this poem. He used an angel because an angel symbolizes power and greatness.
Holmes did not use a genie because a genie would of tricked him or messed up his wish; that is
why he used something that represented purity like an angel.Throughout this poem, Holmes also
only used bright and appealing words to bestow the love and desire the old man wanted for youth.
However, when Holmes was describing old age, he used dull and depressing words, so one could
feel static about old age and feel bias towards youth. On another note, Holmes did a great job by
expressing his overall theme with the use of imagery.
Holmes also used symbols to express his theme in this poem. For example, Tear out life s Wisdom
written page... (famouspoetsandpoems). Holmes was using life as a symbol in this example.
Throughout this poem, Holmes is not only just talking about

Ethics in Mission and Safety Critical Software Engineering
Engineering has a direct and vital impact on the quality of life for all people. 1 It is by this premise
that engineering codes of ethics have been written to outline professional standards for both
managers and engineers. Exhibiting the highest standards of honesty and integrity are imperative
for the protection of public health, safety, and welfare.2 When ethical principles are compromised,
the risk of endangering others greatly increases, especially with mission and safety critical systems.
Extreme consequences include not only complete mission failures and great financial loss, but also
fatalities. Though most engineering accidents are associated with aerospace, ... Show more content

engineering accidents could have been avoided. Principle 3 outlines all the professional practice
guidelines for Product. These include:
. Ensuring that, as a software engineer, you are qualified to work on a particular project
. Ensuring that the appropriate method is used for the project
. Ensuring adequate testing
. Maintaining data integrity
. Treating all maintenance with the same professionalism as new development
. And many others (Click here for all Principle 3 guidelines).4
Principle 5 outlines all the professional practice guidelines for Management. This applies to all
managers and leaders of software engineers. It is important to note the management/engineer
relationship, as success depends on both sides. Though the ultimate authority over business
decisions lies with management, they must still be willing to listen to any of the engineers
concerns during the process, and duly take this into account. The relationship also works the other
direction, in that management will not know of any problems unless accurately reported by the
engineers. Open and honest communication is key for ethical engineering. The guidelines for
management detailed in Principle 5 include:

Colombia s and the 13 colonies were later established, a term like apprentice was used as the
term teenagers are used today. Children depended on their parents but in these times back when
many immigrants fled to America vise versa was the case to find work in order for the family to
succeed. Children and young adults would work for other families or business as servants
example caring for animals, gardening, spinning, candle making, and preparing food. Even
school was different because a twelve year old would attend classes with a twenty year old and
received the same education. Apprenticeship was the knowledge to show young teens to specialize
in a certain work learning the skills from there master. The Boston English High School opened in
1821 being the first high school in the world. But its fame didn t reach to all adolescence for the

  • 2. Csu-Long Beach Thesis 1. Discuss some of your concerns about attending CSU Long Beach. At the moment my biggest concern is not having the ideal class schedule I have my SOAR orientation soon, but right now I am not sure what classes I need to take in order to complete my degree. I m also curious to see how different community college and university are. Will class be different? Moreover, is the coursework more difficult? I believe there is more pressure to do better now, at CSULB than there was at community college, since the cost is greater and perhaps professors will expect better. And well, final concern will be getting lost on campus and arriving late to class. The community college I attended Pasadena City College was small comparing it to CSULB. 2. What are you most excited about? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What are your experiences with reading and writing? I am a first generation American, but due to my family s constant moving between the U.S. and Mexico, I did not learn English till the age of 10 so around the 5th grade. I was in ESL courses in middle school. And eventually moved on to regular English in high school and soon enough became an English honor student. But even then, I experienced great difficulty writing papers, primarily because I struggled with thesis statements. Reading comprehension is not difficult, especially not, because I have a tendency of underlining and annotating. Now, after graduating from community college, I do believe I am a better writer, but I do believe there will always be room for improvement. 6. What are your favorite things to do when you are not in school or working? If I am not busy with school or work, I like to spend time with my family, friends, and my pet birds. They are my main support, and I think I owe to them to make time for them. That is in the form of a dinner, or spending a day at the beach. My hobbies aside from that, will include reading, and going to concerts or watching old concert footage on the internet from bands like Led Zeppelin, or The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. General Dwight Eisenhower as a Critical Thinker Strategic decisions made by General Dwight Eisenhower during WWII were significant and give excellent examples of four components of Steve Gerras Critical Thinking model. Generals during World War II faced daily innumerable difficult and grave decisions. Critical decisions made during WWII did not have the depth and speed of today s modern communications infrastructure. Eisenhower quoted, Making decisions is of the essence in leadership. 1 During World War II, while in command of the Mediterranean theater, Eisenhower made the strategic decision of making the commitment to radiate confidence no matter how dire the circumstances or how pessimistic he might actually feel. He wrote, My mannerisms and speech in public would always reflect the cheerful certainty of victory that any pessimism and discouragement that I might ever feel would be reserved for my pillow. 2 Critical thinking according to Professor Steve Gerras is deliberate. Gerras Critical Thinking Model components are as follows: clarify the concern, point of view, assumptions, inferences, evaluation of information, and implications. The model is not meant to be sequential or linear, however always starts with clarify the concern . Evaluation of Eisenhower s decision to radiate confidence no matter how dire the circumstances in context to Gerras Critical thinking model spotlights clarify the concern and point of view . Application of these two components to his strategic decision demonstrates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the absence of such operating results and resources, we could face substantial liquidity problems and might be required to dispose of material assets or operations to meet our debt service and other obligations. These restrictions may limit the ability to engage in acts that may be in companys long term best interests, and may make it difficult for the company to execute their business strategy successfully or effectively compete with companies that are not similarly restricted. Consumers tastes and preferences along with fashion trends influence the products in the marketplace. The ability to provide a compelling value proposition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If too much inventory builds up, cash is tied up in goods that cannot be sold this is not good news for the company. Management might have to slash prices, to move out this inventory quickly, possibly selling its product at a loss. If AR is handled poorly, it means that the company is having difficulty collecting payment from customers. This is because AR is essentially a loan to the customer, so the company loses out whenever customers delay payment. The longer a company has to wait to be paid, the longer that money is unavailable for investment elsewhere. On the other hand, the company benefits by slowing down payment of AP to its suppliers, because that allows it to make use of the money longer. Cash to cash cycle time ratio servers in evaluating how effectively the company utilizes its cash in its business operation cycle. • 5. Descriptive Writing On The Beach It was a hot summer day and Amanda was elated her father had agreed to take her brother and her to the beach. Amanda took a deep breath, taking in the beautiful scent of the ocean air. She could hear the voices of animals and the hum of pleasant conversations. Amanda glanced up at the radiant, sapphire sky and the yellow as a lemon sun. It was a sweltering day in July and Amanda was exhilarated that she was in the turquoise ocean. Once in a blue moon, a refreshing breeze blew by everyone and gently shook the nearby palm trees. Amanda had on an azure swimsuit. She hastily peeked back at her rose flip flops to ensure that her impish, youthful brother hadn t stolen them. Thank goodness, they re still there. Amanda peered into the crystal clear salt water and saw her immature brother gliding through the water. She examined the beach and saw her father keeping an eye on her brother and waved at him. Her father waved back, immediately putting on a humongous smile to mask his uneasy feelings. Amanda noticed her brother who had started swimming towards her, creating tiny splashes and drops of water glimmered in the sunlight. Oh, no! Amanda instantaneously dove under the water, hoping her brother would miss her and not think she was there. But it was too late, her brother had already spotted her and was trying to make her come up for air. Ugh, well at least I tried. He better have excellent intentions for bothering me. Amanda popped her head out of the water and gingerly opened her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Prospero s case in Masque of the Red Death Prince Prospero, was faced with the threat of survival, surviving the Red Death, a plague sweeping his kingdom killing all it comes into contact with. To produce the fight or flight response, the hypothalamus activates two systems: the sympathetic nervous system and the adrenal cortical system. The sympathetic nervous system uses nerve pathways to initiate reactions in the body, and the adrenal cortical system uses the bloodstream. The combined effects of these two systems are the fight or flight response. When the hypothalamus tells the sympathetic nervous system to kick into gear, the overall effect is that the body speeds up, tenses up and becomes generally very alert. If there s a burglar at the door, you re going to have to take action fast. The sympathetic nervous system sends out impulses to glands and smooth muscles and tells the adrenal medulla to release epinephrine and norepinephrine into the bloodstream. These stress hormones cause several changes in the body, including an increase in heart rate and blood pressure. At the same time, the hypothalamus releases corticotropin releasing factor into the pituitary gland, activating the adrenal cortical system. The pituitary gland secretes the hormone ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone). ACTH moves through the bloodstream and ultimately arrives at the adrenal cortex, where it activates the release of approximately thirty different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Original Sin In The Bible One of the most commonly known stories of the Bible is the story of Adam and Eve. The story is contained within that of Genesis, and a crucial moment in this tale is the moment Eve is tempted by the serpent to go against God s will. This crucial moment is known as original sin, as this moment is when both Adam and Evefall from God s favor into the suffering and sin that is present in our modern world. The tribulations that we were exempt from previously were now instated in our dominion due to this original sin. However, while reading this Biblestory, I did not truly understand this insight. While analyzing and reading the actual story for the first time, I gained more insight into this original sin, and God s almighty power over all,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Milton s Paradise Lost, Satan is characterized as a vengeful fallen angel who, while attempting to rile his fallen army once again to battle, constantly battles with the inner despair and sorrow he feels due to his loss against God. Satan struggles to fully realize God s almighty power against the fallen angels, although the point is made by multiple different fellow commanders. Satan then focuses his destruction upon God s creation, humans. He believes that by introducing sin to them, he will grieve God. The epic poem ends the second book with Satan s ascent into Heaven to trick Adam and Eve. In Paradise Lost, the book s message states that when humans are given the choice between sin and salvation, the choice of salvation and return to God s grace makes God s power even stronger than any evil s. Paradise Lost reinstates the insights I claimed through the story in the Bible, that we must be aware of the choices we make between good or bad, and that if we are drawn into temptations and sin, God s salvation is always more powerful than any temporary luxury that temptation ... • 8. Operations Management At Sainsbury s Value Chain Operations Management is the systematic (where everything can be defined, measured and managed) control of processes that translates inputs into services and products (output). All the processes are linked together to form a supply chain and all the operations are about transformations (adding value). Two types of operation systems are used : opened and closed loop. The first one treats time (speed) as a high priority and starts from the input, through the process to the output. In the opposite, the second one includes a control stage between the process and the output and, a feedback at the end. In the first part, I m going to describe briefly some of Sainsbury s operations using Porter s value chain. Two categories of operations management exist : service or manufacturing based. Services processes can be analysed through the customer contact matrix, the degree of labour intensity degree of interaction and customisation, and the volume and variety against customer contact. In this case, by delivering goods ordered online to customers from a local supermarket, Sainsbury s more like a service process because their outputs are perishable ; there s a low customer contact (face to face or moment of truth) ; there s a short response time (feedback is quick) ; it is labor intensive ; the quality is not easily measured ; and there is low level of customisation (basic process). It is the downstream part of the supply chain. The value chain lean system starts with the inbound ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Call Of Duty As A Satire This is disgusting and appalling! What a far cry from the glory and praise the series has experienced since it revolutionized the FPS genre in 2007 with the launch of Call of Duty 4. All I can say is that I m glad this garbage didn t occur when I played Call of Duty extensively when I was still in school. If I was still involved in the franchise the way I used to be in 2009 when I was 15, I would have wasted hundreds of dollars on a gamethat I simply wanted to play for fun. As reprehensible as this is, the people that should be most ashamed are Ali A , TmarTn and other COD Youtubers. • 10. Urban Farming Experience Paper My experience at DePaul s Community and Involvement fair was a bit overwhelming to say the least. I was so inspired to join so many politically active organizations. I ve signed up to join Depaul Democrats, DePaul Community Peacemakers, International Socialist Organization, and DePaul s Urban Farming Organization. The reason why I consider DePaul s Urban Farming Organization to be a politically active organization is because urban farming allows urban communities to obtain healthier, fresher, and cost reducing foods. One other organization also got me thinking, I never really did consider myself a socialist before, but after share ideas and opinions with the International Socialist Organization, I firmly believe it is a human right to acquire food, shelter, and an education. • 11. Essay on Relationships between Asthma and Air Pollution Relationships between Asthma and Air Pollution Professor s comment: This student s research paper synthesizes the results of a well selected group of articles that explore relationships between asthma and air pollution. That laboratory science is at base a social enterprise is nicely exemplified by the focus of the studies she reviews. In drawing from the articles she reviews and in organizing her paper, the student maintains a good balance between discussing air borne pollutants themselves and their physical effects, between analysis and implication. The result is a readable and interesting explanation of current work on this increasingly important subject. Introduction While air pollution is currently controlled nationwide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to reset EPA air quality standards and to determine which therapeutic actions can be applied to patients to prevent deterioration of their asthma conditions (Neukirch et al., 1998), researchers have found it increasingly necessary to discover the relationships between asthma symptoms and episodes of air pollution and to identify the pollutants that are responsible for the rise in the number of people seeking respiratory medical treatment. Pollutants of Concern Epidemiologic studies have determined that the following are the major air pollutants contributing to respiratory diseases: sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3), and particulate matter (PM) less than 10 mm and less than 2. 5 mm in diameter (PM10 and PM2.5, respectively) (Baldi et al., 1999; Chew et al., 1999; McConnell et al., 1999; McDonnell et al., 1999; Neukirch et al., 1998; Ostro et al., 1998; Sheppard et al., 1999; Taggart et al., 1996). Particulate matter is the product of solid and liquid particles being directly emitted into the air from such things as diesel engine soot, road and agricultural dust, and manufacturing processes, while SO2, NO2, and O3, are predominately byproducts of fuel combustion. In controlled studies of the inhalation of either SO2 or O3, subjects with asthma have been shown to be especially sensitive to these pollutants, with decrements in pulmonary function, increases in asthmatic bronchial hyperresponsiveness, ... The capital city is London, which the River Thames flows through from Thames Head to 140 miles later at Teddington Lock where it ends. Compared to the United States, the United Kingdomis quite small in fact it is approximately the size of New England . Despite being diminutive in size, there is layer upon layer of cultures and history. The Normans built fortified castles, which was a new concept since before that time there was none in the United Kingdom. Although one large piece was influenced by the Manifest Destiny. Manifest Destiny was a belief that God wanted America to expand all the way to the west coast of the American Continent. The Americans wanted the Rio Grandeto be the Texasborder because of this belief. However, Mexicoobjected and claimed that the Nueces River was the Texas border. The United States did not want the Nueces River to be the border because it did not fulfill the Manifest Destiny. So then the only way to make the Rio Grande the border was to push Mexican out of the area. American had to make Mexico recognize that the Texas border was the Rio Grande. The Rio Grande is the fifth longest river to run through the United States and the 20th longest in the world. It flows 1,900 miles from the San Juan Mountains of Southwestern Colorado to the Gulf of Mexico. Along its way, it travels 175 miles through Colorado, 470 miles through New Mexico, and the remaining 1,240 miles through Texas. Currently, the river is used as a border from Texas (United States), to Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo LeГіn, and Tamaulipas (Mexico). During this conflict, Mexico had a different point of view. • 16. Manchurian Candidate And Animal Farm Comparison Essay Despite having vastly different plotlines, characters, settings, the stories of Animal Farm and Manchurian Candidate have strikingly similar parallels when it comes to the basis of theme. Animal Farm is a simpler, almost light hearted take on a communistic society, told through the perspective of farm animals who rebelled and overtook the farm; these animals represent those involved in the Russian revolution, as well as the rise of communism. Manchurian Candidate has a story that is a bit more rough on the perception of communism; it s a story of a man who is struggling with corruption and brainwashing to further a communistic agenda. • 17. Compare The Relationship Between William Wordsworth And I... From my reading of both the Grasmere Journals written by Dorothy Wordsworth and also the poem I wandered lonely as a cloud written by William Wordsworth, I believe that there is a strong relationship between the two. I think that both William and his sister Dorothy experienced the same relationship with the Daffodil s they saw. The only difference is that William expressed his experience through poetry while Dorothy expressed hers through diaryentries. From the evidence we have with the dates of when both were written, I believe William wrote his poem based on Dorothy s journals. As she is often out walking with William or Coleridge it is probable that she is reflecting on these events quite a lot. On May 14th she writes I sate a long time upon a stone at the margin of the lake, and after a flood of tears my heart was easier. Dorothy explains how after she reflects she becomes happier. The story serves a number of purposes within the Hindu epic such as giving the reader an understanding of the relationship between brothers, friends, and rulers as well as giving us a complicated but important look at a different side of Rama. Sugriva s story within the context of the Ramayanais quite different than the others because of a few controversial topics and questions that come up while reading it. All of them pertain to Rama and his development not only as the leader of the state but as a god. Rama, the epitome of virtue and valor, is the incarnation of the Hindu god, Vishnu. As this incarnate of the most widely praised Hindu god, there are certain qualities that are expected of him. These qualities are exemplified throughout the Ramayana with the exception of one or two acts within Sugriva s story. Rama s role in this tale seems to be a blemish on his otherwise virtuous and spotless history. I will first present a synopsis of this tale in order to build a foundation for my argument that Rama is actually justified in his actions with Sugriva, and towards Vali, which are so easily condemned as not god like. Sugriva is the brother of Vali, the ruler of the kingdom of Kishkindha. Through his writing, he warns society of what could happen if they continued the path they were on. Arriving in the future, thanks to the time machine that Wells created, readers observe a world where society has split into two species. In Victorian England, there was a fear residing in the upper classthat the working class would engage in an uprising and throw them from power. This brought the desire for security, which is what the Eloi hold in the year 802,701. These include poor air and water quality and the cramped conditions of working class areas of cities; poor diet; and the use of narcotics such as alcohol, tobacco, or opium (Vorachek 200). Wells used these environmental factors when creating the living space of the Morlocks. They lived underground in dark tunnels which the Time Traveller described as very stuffy and oppressive, and the faint halitus of freshly shed blood was in the air (Wells 54). The cannibalism of the Morlocks also played on another fear of society in the fin de siГЁcle. Since there was a fear of the working class causing the degeneration of society, the cannibalistic activities can be seen as representing the imminent proletarian revolution feared by some following the growth of militant trade unionism and working class political organisation (Partington 59). He stated The too perfect security of the Upperworlders had led them to a slow movement of degeneration, to a general dwindling in size, strength and intelligence (Wells 49). Throughout the story, Dave is constantly seeking the pleasure of obtaining and then eventually shooting a gun in order to be a man and find himself. However, Dave does not expect the consequences that are to follow the pursuit of pleasure. The moral of the story pertains to the role pleasure and its consequences have in development and finding oneself. The story narrates a common, but little talked about problem, that runs rampant in today s society. In the story The Man Who Was Almost a Man, Richard Wright illustrates Dave s development, or lack thereof, through the symbols of the gun, the train, and the mule. The most obvious symbol mentioned in this story is the gun. Throughout the story, the gun is constantly shown as a symbol for power, as well as masculinity and independence. Several times throughout the course of the story the narrator states, If anybody could shoot a gun, he could (Wright 222). In the fields, Dave is treated as a child, and he believes that he is an adult and should be treated as once, which includes owning a gun. Dave is disillusioned by the gun, and believes that it will solve all of his problems and strengthen his weaknesses, including granting him independence. Dave fails to realize that not being able to properly operate a gun only relinquishes freedom. This can be further evidenced when Dave accidentally shoots Jenny, the mule. This situation should have put an end to Dave s obsession with power and guns, but instead he was still fascinated, demonstrating his lack of maturity and development. Overall, the gun demonstrates the maturity, independence, and developmental level that Dave wishes to achieve, but severely lacks. Mr. Hawkins s mule, Jenny, represents Dave. The story begins with the employer having trouble finding good employees. This is until the employer hires Bartleby. This is significant because it shows that he still uses polite wording even though he has given up living. It does not take into consideration social aspects such as standard of living and the financial system as a whole. There are several other factors other than biological that are responsible for an illness in individuals such as hierarchyand power that vastly affects a person s health in today s world. Hierarchy is defined as the categorization of collection of individuals in accordance with their financial, societal and professional position in the society. Individuals are divided on the basis of race, religion, class, ethnicity and many more factors which in turn have great impact on the health and services provided to individuals in these distinct categories. Firstly, we will discuss social dominance theory which was developed by Sidanius and Pratto in the year 1999. The theory describes the source of societal hierarchies and how these classifications boost certain groups and adversely affect people in particular groups (Moss, 2016). According to this theory, there are dominant and subordinate groups and there exists inequality in both these groups. There are three different arrangement of hierarchy in all developed economies on the basis of age, gender and subjective reasons such as ethnic group, race, rank, belief and faith. There are five key determinants of this theory. To start with, governing groups possess dominance over other minor groups. Also societal background greatly impacts these groups. It is more prevalent in males than females and is affected by traits of people and socialization happenings. We further discuss Karl max s theory of socialism which classifies individuals in society into three groups namely upper, middle and lower class (Hierarchy structure, 2017). Normally known as the Marxist Social Hierarchy, the said theory explains that the wealthiest individuals owning land belongs to upper class, individuals who work for upper class and sells their talent in return of money comprises of middle class. Children are seen as helpless beings due to the fact that they depend a considerable amount on others. Due to this reality, children are usually more vulnerable to impassivity as they become much more impotent as they receive little or no aid in their fight against indifference. This method is used in many subject matters such as the United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF) who provides humanitarian assistance to children in developing countries. The UNICEF puts out many commercials to help hungry children in developing countries; however, children aren t the only ones who are hungry. There are many adults and some elderly who face starvation as well, but using footage of starving children provokes more emotion from consumers in first world countries who are the ones who donate money and food to those children out of sympathy for them as children are universally known to be dependent on others and are seen as helpless beings. Wiesel utilizes the same strategy in his speech. He could use other examples of victims of apathy, but ultimately employs children as an examples for the purpose of inducing emotion out of his audience. Wiesel also inputs this emotional appeal at the end of his speech as a final attempt to bring awareness to his audience about the severity of insouciance to prompt them to create change.
