Similarities Between Rockefeller And Carnegie
Rockefeller and Carnegie had similar backgrounds. Carnegie was a Scottish immigrant. Being an
immigrant, he started off with little money. Rockefeller, while he was born and raised in the
United States, came from a poor family, as his father was an often struggling peddler, and his
mother stayed at home to raise the six children of the family. Both of them began working while
they were struggling to make ends meet, but ended as two of the richest men in America. The two
were also similar in business. Both (though Carnegie more than Rockefeller) used the method of
giving bonuses and partnerships to those workers who were innovative and efficient. Along with
this, both believed that cost cutting was the best was to ensure profits. Carnegie felt

Chemistry Of Caffeine
Caffeine is considered to be the most consumed psycho pick me up and is present in more than
sixty plants. It is part of our everyday consumptions, such as coffee, tea, energy drinks and even
chocolate even its small amount, around 90% of individuals use caffeine in one form or another.
Caffeine has many similar traits with more of the bigger drugs such as cocaine, amphetamines and
even heroin. The thing is that caffeineuses similar biochemical mechanisms as the other drugs
which in fact are known to stimulate the brain function. Caffeine is also known as 1, 3, 7
trimethylxanthine, and derives from a methylxanthine group and includes theophylline and
theobromine (5). Methylxanthine inhibits the neurotransmitter adenosine by stimulating by... Show

Not only it is a major component for bones in humans, it also serves other vital roles. Caffeine
also may contribute to loss of bone by increasing calcium excretion and also a decrease in
intestinal absorption efficiency of calcium (4). Calcium provides structure and hardness in
bones and teeth, it allows muscle to contract and nerves to send signals, makes blood vessels
expand and contract, helps to move blood clots, and it also plays a roles in supporting protein
function and hormone regulation (3). Knowing calcium role, it is easy to see how it can lead to a
decrease in bone density. Inadequate calcium intake can lead to decreased bone mineral density,
which can increase the risk of bone fractures (13). A few ways an agent may increase fracture risk
and/ or skeletal fragility include an interference with the bone remodeling process designed to
detect and repair fatigue damage in bone structures and also a decrease in bone tissue mass either
generally or in key architectural elements (12). Osteoporosis is a medical condition, in which the
bones become brittle and fragile from loss of tissue. It is

Declassified Chairman Mao
Declassified Chairman Mao is a documentary that traces Mao Zedong s various stages in his life
to become China s most iconic and god like leader. His belief that China must be destroyed in
order for the country to be rebuilt, killed millions and ravaged the country in the process. The
first part covers his early life up to the Cultural Revolution (1949 1966). The second half covers
the Cultural Revolution up until his time of death (1966 1976) followed by the emergence of a
new China and new leadership. Some of the important events and people that are covered in the
documentary include: the Great Leap Forward, Mao s loss of power in the Communist Party, Mao
s wife Jiang Qing, and her role in helping Mao get back into power, Mao s philosophy that led to
the Cultural Revolution, Mao s Red Guard , Lin Biao s rise and fall, the visit of President Nixon,
the rise of Deng Xiao Ping, Mao s death and the arrest of the Gang of Four including the trial of
Mao s wife, Jiang Qing.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overall, I thought that the timeline in the documentary was accurate. Additionally, I felt the
documentary gave me some new insights about the events and the people who surrounded Mao.
For example, I did not know that Lin Biao came up with the red book in order to show his
loyalty to Mao. I was also unaware that Mao had been married four times. I also knew little of
Mao s fourth wife Jiang Qing and the fact that she was not only previously an actress, but also her
behind the scenes role in creating all the propaganda films during the Cultural

Caribbean Green Sea Turtle Research Paper
Our oceans are made of amazing species. Sea turtles are magnificent animals with four limbs
bounded by bony girdles to a column of vertebrae leading to a neck topped by a skull with
movable jaws. Sea turtles are unique because they stand out, present themselves, tolerate some of
our advances, and mysterious as they are, they regularly crawl into our world. Sea turtles are
unique because they have the potential to affect our marine environment in many ways. But many
marine species are severely at risk of extinction. Sea turtles are endangered to live because of the
high amount of garbage in oceans and shore, the chemicals in the oceans, and human unawareness
about the turtles. While the problem of the decline of the sea turtles seems difficult... Show more

Overfishing and nutrient pollution of the seas have brought increasing blooms of jellyfish.
These blooms cause tourist beaches to close, clog cooling intakes at power plants, and burst our
trawl nets, but leatherbacks are loving it. (Our Sea Turtles) A leatherback concentrates in eating
jellies, including the nastier stinging ones. It is unbelievable how this unintended
environmental increase has influenced leatherback numbers. When most of the loggerheads
migrated into the Chesapeake Bay, it was because the food was disappearing and they feasted on
the bay s plenty of horseshoe crabs. Then, this primitive arthropod with no food appeal to
humans suddenly became commercially valuable as bait for eel and whelk traps. (Our Sea
Turtles) As the produce of horseshoe increased, their abundance declined, and loggerhead left
with more desperate to catch blue crabs. Loggerhead was enforced with another diet change
when over harvest in the Chesapeake blue crab fishery condensed this prey item as well.
Loggerhead in the bay became relying on the scavenging for fish bycatch or the dead remnants of
fish discarded by net fishers. (Our Sea Turtles) One of the biggest ecological challenges to sea
turtles in a changing world is where to nest. (Our Sea Turtles) Most of the seas are rising, and the

Computer Technology And Its Effect On Health
Computer technology was one of the most advanced scientific and technological inventions in the
20th century. It can be programmed to carry out a set of calculations and logical operations. Every
year the number of individuals who use computers is increasing at a swift rate. However, whether
computer technology changes personal lifestyle that is better or not is a complex issue and there
are respective arguments that need to be inspected. Arguments sustentation of a computer
technology suggests that computer technology helps workers to achieve highly efficient working
style, assists individuals to release pressure and expands social networking. On the other hand
arguments against includes the addictive syndrome, reduction of face to face interactions and
serious effect on health.
The computer is essential to facilitate workers to work with high efficiency. In all of the
workplace, it is the wide widespread use of computer technology. Accountants use soft wares to
audit the company s book that without hand computation also can get a correct result. The
functions of computers are diversified that including calculation, painting, design and writing.

My Life Changing Experience
From time to time I relive this part of my life with an ashamed perspective. It all begins to come
back to me on the morning of December 16th, I awoke after a sleepless night of exercising,
flushing my system with water and with mixed emotions about even prayed. I went through this
because four nights previous I had raved it up at a party smoking a copious amount of weed. This I
consider to be my life changing experience. Generally speaking I ve always been a good kid with
high morals and couldn t see myself to be tempted to drugs or alcohol, especially since my
parents said they d kill me if they caught me doing that kinda stuff. How I got into this mess
begins with me being at a happy point in my life. I had a friend, a girl (who I ll... Show more content

Consequently this led me to experiment with something stronger, which happened to be weed.
This idea first came to me when I would see a couple of my friends smoking over the app
Snapchat, while I was viewing their stories. So me being interested I asked one of my friends if
I could join them next time they did and he agreed. After that first weekend, I was instantly
hooked to it and spent the next weekend smoking weed with them again. For the most part I was
originally doing this to help cope with my best friend leaving but as time worn on I just grew
plain addicted. Furthermore this started to cause me to make more poor decisions. After
becoming accustomed to weed, I would start to buy bottles of hard liquor for myself. This I
would drink after school about every other day during the weekdays. Recalling back, I think the
dumbest I ever done was during New Year s Eve, I went to a hotel and smoked several times within
a few hours, then went to a party to drink. At around one o clock I drove home and I remember
how badly I was shaking for how nervous I was to get pulled over, thankfully I managed to get
home successfully. As I was getting more attached to this kind of life I was progressively
feeling really shitty about myself. First was due to the amount of lying I was telling to my parents
and second was how far I had let myself down. All things considered I look back at the drug test I
took for a job interview as a

Chantae Harrison s Financial Performance
Review of Financial Performance Chantae Harrison The company s financial future looks bright
with the introduction of future revenue makers. GC3 is gaining revenue off of premium coffee
that was created by their top competitors Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts. This company has
performed financially with the concept of a larger cup size. The company has also created top
performers and gained revenue. Considering this, there are still financial decisions that need to be
improved and to do this the company needs to look at all their financial status records and ratios.
GC3 financials show that they had a gross margin of $110,580 and went up to $111,922 in 2013
(Great Cups of Coffee, n.d.). From 2013 to 2014, you also see a decrease in long term debt to

Contact Movie Analysis
Contact
Based on the previous Carl Sagan s novel about an adolescent scientist s determinations to make
Contact with life itself beyond just our universe. The most famous quote that Sagan tells the story
of this movie is that there is billions and billions of stars up there . The fascinating science fiction
film/thriller of that century, Contact, combines many concepts that do not usually go together or
are thought about in relation to each other. That being the concept of faith, politics, and most
importantly science. This movie was released on July 11th, 1997 by producers Robert Zemeciks
and Steve Starkey. Dr.Ellie Arroway played by Jodie Foster rushes to translate a message that they
think could be coming from the Vegastar system. When contact at first happens, Dr.Ellie Arroway
communicates with the constricting National Security Advisor Kitz who is played by James
Woods. After this unravels, they go in to see the possible problems with occurrence of this
event. An out breaking message is discovered in the signal, but the question is will Arroway be
the only one to be able to solve it or will there be more involved to help including theory s and
arguments? Science versus religion is one of the main topics and many topics of this movie which
I can agree on as I watched this thriller. Ellie doesn t believe in god and doesn t have a set religion
and Palmer does so they clash personalities a lot throughout Contact. I took interest in one character
while watching Contact.

Emirates Technological Factors
1.0Introduction
One of the world s top best airlines, Emirates is the largest as it is in middle east, the company
operate flights from Dubai International Airport of over 3,000 flights every week (Keea Shila,
2013). Emirates fly to more than 180 destination, to
80 countries in the world. The airline was founded during 1985 by Ahmed
Bin Saeed and began it services in aviation industry in mid October in 1985 with only two jets.
Over the years, the airline have been expanding, consisting of more than 130 aircrafts and over
50,000 employees who come from over 160 nationalities currently. Emirates had built up its Image
along the years in terms of safety and its service. It rank number 2 out of many airlines in safety

Even though it may not reduce cost as much, advance technology does improve Emirates
operations. After much innovations of 21st century technology, Emirates establish its first A380
airbus fleet in 2010 and still expanding. Not only it accommodate a huge number of passengers, the
plane, but it also uses Biofuel and quieter noise volume with thrust reversal engines, giving its
passengers great flight experience.
2.5 Environmental factor The world as we know it to be is recently very ill. Due to much effect
of human activity, global temperature is rising at a fast rate per year, which leads to serious
changes in climate and weather. This results in aviation industries to be badly affected as the
changes will lead to flight delays and bumper flights due to mid air turbulence. Thus Emirates
does take this factor into serious considerations and started carrying out its Go Green plan in
2011 to reduce emition of greenhouse gases. Airplanes can cause an increase in greenhouse gases
such as carbon dioxide (CO2) thus Emirates carry out its flight operations using Biofuel. Though
its expensive, usage of Biofuels for its engines does save for a better environment. Emirates also
carried out a Recycling plan in 2009 by recycling its jets of those that are old and out of

Irony in Pride and Prejudice
Irony in Pride and Prejudice
Irony forms the alma mater of Jane Austen s novels. Likewise, Pride and Prejudice is steeped in
irony of theme, situation, character, and narration. Austen uses it to establish the contrast between
appearance and reality.
As one examines Pride and Prejudice , one discovers the ironic significance of how pride leads to
prejudice and prejudice invites pride. Importantly, the novel elucidates how both Pride and
Prejudice have their corresponding virtues bound up within them: an intricate relationship that is at
once contradictory yet deep.
This goes in parlance with the critics of Austen who hold that she used irony as a shield to express
her radical ideas. It enables her to expose the ills behind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. Darcy remarks about Elizabeth that: tolerable but not handsome enough to tempt me...
We relish the ironical flavour of this statement much later when we reflect that the woman who was
not handsome enough to dance with was really good enough for him tomarry. He removes Bingley
from Netherfield because he considers it imprudent to forge a marriage alliance with the Bennet
Family, but himself ends up marrying the second Bennet sister. Collins proposes to Elizabeth when
her heart is full of Wickham and Darcy proposes to her exactly at the moment when she hates him
most. Elizabeth tells Mr. Collins that she is not the type to reject the first proposal and accept the
second but does exactly this when Darcy proposes a second time. The departure of the militia from
Meryton was expected to put an end to Lydia s flirtations. Ironically, it brings about her elopement.
The Lydia Wickham episode may seem like an insurmountable barrier between Elizabeth and Darcy,
but is actually instrumental in bringing them together. Lady Catherine, attempting to prevent their
marriage only succeeds in hastening it.
Irony in character is even more prominent than irony of situation. It is ironical that Elizabeth who
prides herself on her perception is quite blinded by her own prejudices and she errs in judging
intricate characters. Wickham appears suave and charming but is

Political, Societal And Economic Factors
6. What political, societal and economic factors are important in this country?
ECONOMIC
SOCIETAL When it comes to the societal aspect of the country of Qatar, its residents have been
divided into three different groups. the Hadar, Bedouin, and Abd. The Bedouin group can actually
trace their descent back from the nomads of the arabian peninsula, where the Hadar groups
ancestors were settled town dwellers. Although these individuals are of separate societal groups,
some of the Hadar are descendants of the Bedouin group. Most of these residents descend from
migrants from the present day Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan and are occasionally referred to as
Irani Qataris. The Abd group also known as Alabd formally, the literal translation of this group
name means slaves. These individuals are descendants of slaves brought from east africa many
years ago. Every member of each of these Qatari groups have the right to a non challenged
citizenship. Although they are free to live a good life in Qatar; their sociocultural differences among
all of them do not go unnoticed, and are recognized and acknowledged on a day to day basis.
POLITICAL
The Qatari as a whole are of an emirate, which is ruled by an Emir. Since the start of Qatar s
independence, this country s rulers have been of one particular family known as Al Thani The
Emir, several of the cabinet ministers, as well as officials of high ranking are all members of the

Persuasive Essay Lessons
I have learned many lessons in my life but there are a few that stand out from the rest. In order
for someone to grow as a person they have to learn lessons. How people learn lessons and the
impact of those lessons vary greatly. The many lessons I have learned have made me who I am
today. Out of all the lessons I have learned so far, the one that impacted me the most was also the
hardest lesson I have ever had to face. Almost everyone has to learn some version of this lesson at
some point in their lives. As for me, I learned it at 13 years old during the end of October, 2015, the
days leading up to and after my first dogLucky died. It all started on a windy Monday afternoon. I
had just got in the car with my mom, I had been worrying about Lucky all day and was anxious to
hear what my mother had to say. Lucky was a partially blind 15 year old Jack Russell Terrierthat my
parents got in Belgium before I was born. He was an only dog and had always been throughout
my childhood, so when he began peeing in the house all the time and not eating, I was extremely
concerned. I knew that my mom had brought him to the vet that day so my first question was
How is Lucky? . My mom was acting much different than usual, she was very quiet and sad. She
told me that the vet said Lucky had kidney disease and all they could do is give him pain
medicine and try to keep him alive until that weekend when my dad got home from a work trip in
California. At first, I was extremely angry. All I

This is especially important for Allergan as many of their products are cosmetic based for

products in order to keep up with their competition. In order to achieve this companies must

has been some research about driving while texting. The research shows that your reaction speed
is reduced when you are doing this dangerous act (Friedeman N. Pag). When you are texting
while driving you most likely are not going to notice the car right in front of you for you to hit.
Another reason why you should not do this while you are driving is that you are not aware of
signs in front. Results of missing the signs that you might drive into a closed road or even into a

texting while driving should not be banned because eating and driving or listening to radio can

argue a law against texting would be difficult to enforce because it is hard to check if people are

Implementing Mandatory Council Meeting Of All Plc Teams
One thing that is a for certain in education is changes will take place. Education mirrors the world
we live in, and that is, change is inevitable. However, this process is not always accepted by the
entire staff of a school and may be found burdensome to others. As a teacher leader, when certain
changes in the schooltake place regarding a rule, the entire staff needs to come together to ensure
the rule is being implemented and enforced. One such change that is happening at my school is the
once a week mandatory meeting of all PLC teams. The decision to implement mandatory PLC
meetings did not go over well with all teachers. When a school makes a rule or policy change, there
are parts of the organization, such as the political, human resource, and cultural perspective that feel
the effect. I am part of a vast school district in Texas. I understand that this rule change about PLC
meetings came from school leaders that are higher up in the organizational structure, and moved
down the chain of command from the principals to the teachers. Understanding the structure of an
organization is critical for the organization to move forward (Laureate Education, Inc., 2007). My
district believes and supports the different PLC teams in the school district. At the start of this year,
the entire staff was told by the principal that all PLC teams need to meet once a week, and all
minutes of the meeting need to be documented and emailed to administration. In my opinion, I

Is Google Making Us Stupid Essay
Is Google Making Us Stupid?
How long is the Nile River? How do I take out a loan? Where do babies come from? Nowadays,
instead of the long searches after a trip to the library, creeping through the old books collecting dust
on our parent s shelves and even looking through an encyclopedia, instead we would find the
answers these answers through a quick Google search. Google, introduced to the public September
of 1997, is a commonly used search engine all over the internet. Google is roughly an amazing 40%
of the internet. From toddler to teen to senior citizen, we use Google as a crutch for our daily
information. But to say that Google is making us stupid is not necessarily right? Google more so is
making us dependant on fast paced information, and therefore diluting our sense of concentration
and our ability to receive and maintain that information.
Nicholas Carr, author of the article Is Google Making Us Stupid, wrote about his experience with
the search engine and how it s literally changing the way his thought process receives information.
Carr writes, I m not thinking the way I used to think... my concentration often starts to drift after

The Social Influence Of Hip Hop Music
In the last three decades, Hip Hop music has evolved into one of the largest youth influencers.
Uplifting the youth, Hip Hop provides a voice to a group of people trying to deliver a message.
Whether it is politcally, culturally, racially, or socially, the music speaks for people with a
variety of beliefs and passions. Hip Hop and Rap music espands people s horizons, and promotes
the idea of equality between interacial communities. The Hip Hop music movements emergence

As the genre of Hip Hop and Rap spread around the world, it became a social and cultural
platform for artists. Most people assume that it has the biggest influence on the black community
in America, but the music has spread far beyond that specific audience. Critics describe Hip Hop
music as homophobic, racist, vulgar, and violent. Tricia Rose contradicts this statement perfectly:
Rappers lyrics really do offer gripping tales of loss, sorrow, exploitation, rage, confinement,
hopelessness, and despair about conditions that are denied in the larger society ( The Role Of Hip
Hop ). It is imporant to see past the innapropriate langauge and listen to the actual message of the

As soon as this music genre became popular among teens and young adults, a plethora of songs
came out with important social messages. In the society we live in today, suicide is a prominent

message of suicide prevention. Logic, Alessia Cara, and DJ Khalid produced a song called 1 800

Coelacanth also has intracranial joint and hinge in the skull which enables them to open their

Analysis Of The Minstrel Shows
Saxton portrays the minstrel shows as entertainment that provided a ground for topics difficult to
handle as a means of social commentary for the urban working class to level their cultural capital
with elite planters. The minstrel shows first became popular as they provided a glimpse into the
culture taking place in the developing urban cities of the time. Saxton writes that, through that
window appeared cultural identifications and hostilities, ethnic satire, and social and political
commentary of wide ranging, sometimes radical character. (pg. 68) The founders of minstrelsy
were northern and urban; they defied the traditional, religious lifestyles and sought unconventional
occupations in the world of entertainment. These men had to find something new and exciting that
would stand out in the inhospitable entertainment world. They believed that the satirical aspect of
blackface minstrelsy would allow for such a freedom of subject matter that would permit topics that
were deemed to be prohibited. Shows referenced forbidden topics such as homosexuality and
masturbation. Saxton notes that the point here is not the prevalence of homosexuality, but the
tolerance of sexuality in general, the realism and the flexibility of standards that flourished behind
the false facade of blackface presentation. (pg. 73) The minstrels borrowed the music and dance of
slaves and altered them sufficiently to be more acceptable to the white, urban class. As the show
developed, it transformed

Analysis Of Gattaca, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Catch Me If...
My chosen particular aspect that I have analyzed to be found to have significant connections
between my four chosen texts is identity. I have perceived this theme of identity through four
different films of Gattaca, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Catch Me If You Can and V for Vendetta.
Through these films I have formed three questions off of my theme identity analyzed: What was the
effectof identity on the people around the protagonist what drove the protagonists to obtain a new
identity? What was identity s effect on the protagonists themselves?
What was the effect of identity on the people around the protagonist? In the movie Gattaca Vincent,

Roald Dahl s Lamb To The Slaughter
Can a person kill someone they really love. Roald Dahl s mysterious story, Lamb to the
Slaughter, takes place in the 1950 s. Dahl introduces Mary Maloney, the protagonist, as a
conformable, obedient women, who is six months pregnant and is obsessed with her husband,
Patrick Maloney a detective. The story begins with Mrs. Maloney eagerly waiting for her husband.
When he arrives, Dahl makes it obvious that there is something wrong with the dialogues of his
mood, which were very harsh towards Mary. The revelation of Patrick Maloney leaving her
completely transformed the once gratified, loving Mrs. Maloney into a brutal, cold hearted
murderer. One lesson the story alludes to is that when people withstand heartbreaking incidents, it

At the beginning of the story, Mary Maloney loves and adores her husband, this does not last
very long. Dahl uses simple but strong sentences to portray the killing of Patrick Maloney At the
point, Mary Maloney simply walked up behind him and without any pause she swung the big
frozen leg of lamb high in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his
head. This illustrates Mrs. Maloney walking without any hesitation, killing her beloved husband
and this also exemplifies the ultimate transformation of Mrs. Maloney from her calm behavior to
being over dramatic. Another detail that this phrase demonstrates is that Patrick is so focused in
his thoughts that he doesn t sense his wife walking up towards him. Dahl reveals this unexpected
transformation of Mary Maloney through her actions and thoughts. Another phrase that
exemplifies Mrs. Maloney s change in character is when she thinks to herself, after killing
Patrick, All right, she told herself. So I ve killed him. This illustrates Mrs. Maloney s impeccable
life, or what she conceives to be her life is demolished. At this point of the story, Dahl uses direct
and indirect sentences to develop the protagonist and to show the complete transformation of Mrs.
Maloney and brings her to

Analysis Of The Glass Castle By Jeannette Walls
As frigid snow frosts the sun licked ice, a glacial wind howls against the trees. As a child, one
would sip hot chocolate and watch a movie with their family. However, Jeannette Walls would be
sitting on a dirty floor, cold with no food. In The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, it is revealed that
as Jeannette grew up, she endured hardships inflicted upon her by her own parents. However, if
Jeannette had not gone through these things, she never would have gained the characteristics that
she values present day. Although Jeannette Walls faced destitution and endured anguish during her
childhood, these obstacles formed her into a self reliant woman who proves that just because she
did not have as much money as other families, she can still achieve success in her life.
Throughout her life, starting from childhood, Jeannette Walls suffered through multiple hardships
that could lead her away from a successful adult life. Since she was young, her parents put her
through things that a child should never be exposed to, which could lead her to make these same
mistakes as she grew older. For example, her father was an alcoholic, and from this many problems
sprouted. Furthermore, her mother never wanted to be tied down, and loathed the idea of family
life, as she did not want the responsibility of raising a family. Rose Mary was depicted as self
centered in the novel, and did not think of her children, as she only thought of her own needs. This
can be shown when she keeps the diamond ring her children found for herself. Instead of thinking
of her starving children, she states that, self esteem is even more vital than food (Walls 186). In this
moment, Rose Mary shows that she is not thinking of her children and what they need to survive,
but only cares about herself and what she has. Under these circumstances, any other parent would
use the ring to buy food for their children, but instead she shows her inconsiderate nature by
keeping the ring for herself. Another example of an event that could scar Jeannette far into her life
would be when her father brought her to a bar and allowed a strange drunk man to take Jeannette to
his apartment. When she told her father that she had almost been raped, he does not listen to

Leadership Qualities Of The Movie We Were Soldiers Essay
I can t promise you that I will bring you all home alive. But this I swear, before you and before
Almighty God, that when we go into battle, I will be the first to set foot on the field, and I will be
the last to step off, and I will leave no one behind. Dead or alive, we will all come home together.
So help me, God.
LT. Colonel Hal Moore The quote above personifies what type of person LT. Colonel Moore was. In
today s society you will rarely find individuals such as LTC. Hal Moore that exhibit those rare
qualities of what a leader should be. In this essay I will describe some of the leadership qualities that
are displayed in the movie We Were Soldiers. I will also discuss how the characteristics were
portrayed, evaluate the success or lack of for each, apply a real life situation and explain how his
leadership style affected those who followed.
The first of the leadership qualities that I will mention being proactive versus reactive.
According to the Holden Leadership Center at the University of Oregon (2009) being proactive
is that The exceptional leader is always thinking three steps ahead. Working to master his/her own
environment with the goal of avoiding problems before they arise. During the movie the soldiers
are simulating being dropped off in a hot area. LT. Colonel Moore saw an issues that involved a

Racial Stereotypes
According to NYDailyNews, the average American watches more than five hours of television
every day. Through these television programs, people are exposed to many issues in the
representation of women, children, gender, sexuality, and race. Racial stereotypes are still
evident today, even though times have changed since the early 1900s. They provide negative or
false assumptions about a variety of groups, as well as ideas that do not necessarily pertain to every
person. Fox Tv s show Glee is an accurate portrayal of the many racial stereotypes that are apparent
in today s society. Glee offers viewers a complex construction of racethat both perpetuates negative
racial stereotypes for humorous purposes and attempts to disrupt stereotypical notions of token
characters. The exposure of race/ethnic groups can be seen throughout various media contexts,
however television offers recurring characters that viewers can identify and continue to form
meaningful bonds with. This involvement stimulates social learning, facilitates persuasion, and can
promote social stereotypes (Tukachinsky, Mastro, Yarchi, 2017). Television can be used for valid
and significant comparisons over time. For example, Blacks and Latinos in particular have been
portrayed on television and has been a source of controversy and criticism. It is true that
advancements have been made over the years, however these groups still lack the representation
that they should be receiving (Tukachinsky, Mastro, Yarchi,

The Humoral Theory Of William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
The humoral theory is one of the oldest theories of Medicine that proposed that our bodies are
made up of four different humours: black bile, blood, phlegm, and yellow bile. It was believed that
while in good health the humours were in a harmonious balance throughout the body but illness is
said to have disrupted that balance causing one or more humour to become disordered. It is also
said that the mind is effected by the equilibrium of the four temperamentsknown as melancholic,
sanguine, choleric, and phlegmatic and that they dispersed to make up certain characteristics or
personality traits. Critics have long described Shakespeare as using these humours and
temperaments as a way for the audience to understand the character, plot and other aspects of his
plays. In such plays as Romeo and Juliet where critics have described Romeo as being a melancholy
figure it is exceptionally brought about by using the four humours involved in the humoral theory
that is said to have first originated by Hippocrates and later elaborated on by Galen. The four
humours include Black Bile which is related to the melancholic temperament and said to be
associated with the element earth, the season of winter, the planet Saturn, the spleen, and cold and
dry qualities. The humour Blood is related to the sanguine temperament and associated with the
element air, the season spring, the planet Jupiter, the heart, and hot and moist qualities. While
Phlegm is associated with the temperament phlegmatic

What Is The Use Of The Emotional Truth In Stephen CraneBy...
Crane s approach to writing was something new for war stories. His sense of abruptness and
literal storytelling was extremely straightforward for some readers. Crane does not attest to
mannerism or social norms , he says the outright truth despite its emotional effect. This sense of
emotional truth can be interpreted as harsh to a reader, but is the best way of communicating
the emotional truths of a story. This style can be observed when Crane depicts Henry s
cognition. We can observe how he contemplates fighting or running, and the amount of guilt he
feels as well. It s in no way glamorous to be in fear, it s not sexy to leave the tattered soldier
behind to die, it s in no way acceptable to fake an injury to avoid fighting. These facts are
disclosed despite how appealing they are, this sense of truth, sets Cranes writing apart entirely.

How To Write An Essay About The Battle Of Chattanooga

HIST 2010

The Battle of Chattanooga, that ensued November 23rd through the 25th, 1863, was a Civil War
battle that followed the The Battle of Chickamauga. Since the Union had lost the Battle of
Chickamauga, they retreated to Chattanooga. However, the Confederate army followed in an effort
to starve the Union soldiers and take over the land ( Battle of Chattanooga 1.) The Battle of
Chattanooga ultimately forced the confederates back into Georgia and paved the way for William

In September of 1863, the Union army, led by General William Rosecrans, took a loss to the

Essay: Antigone and Julius Caesar Option 3
The involvement of women is very important in the two stories, Julius Caesar by William
Shakespeare and Antigone by Sophocles. Throughout each story it becomes clear that the ideas and
biases surrounding women play an important part in how society views women, and how women
see themselves. Readers also see these ideas spread into the minds of women affecting what they do
in their life, and how they act. Antigone and Ismene, from Antigone, and Calpurnia and Portia, from
Julius Caesar are both examples of this major theme. These four women heavily influence their play
and the outcome. Because of this it is clear to see the importance and relevance of women in
Antigone and Julius Caesar.
In both Antigone and Julius Caesar the societal views that women are weak, submissive and
inferior play a major role in each story and their conclusions. In Antigone, King Creon is shocked
when he discovers that it is Antigone that disobeys him. The betrayer was right under his nose, but
he was too blind to see it. King Creon was blinded by the belief that women are inferior.
Likewise, in Julius Caesar, women are considered inferior. When Portia, Brutus wife, wants Brutus
to trust her she has to prove herself strong by stabbing herself. It is the societal view of women
that makes her have to prove herself. Another major example of this is when the threat of being
considered weak by his peers

Germany And Its Impact On The Economy
Germany Social The graph shows that the population has overall decreased by 1.11 million.

the years. Kurzarbeit the Federal subsidy paid for the portion of the pay that was lost for the
workers. The purpose of this was to encourage employers to keep trained staff so that production
can recover more quickly in response to recovering demand. Germany used this to take
advantage of rising demand when the global economy improved. (The Daily Signal, 2017)

of Talladega College. This assignment will also use outside sources to relate to the issues at hand.
The sources that are used will help to give an outlook on what the problems consist of and how to
resolve them. To get the solutions that are needed for the increase of the non traditional student
satisfaction, the need for a better relationship between the faculty and the student must be addressed
as an objective for recruitment and continuance. The need for improvements with communication
between faculty and non traditional students can be a factor to having a decrease of student

The Evil Of Animal Rights Essay
Today, the discussions about the protection of the animal s rights have received the attention of
many people, many countries in the world. A lot of actions have been made by animal right
activists to influence the world. Alex Epstein and Yaron Book, both authors of the The Evil of
Animal Right , argue animal right activists use too much violence on their action, which is
considered going against the law. Then, the authors give a lot of evidence to prove testing animals
are extinct, but using animals for testing gives us new vaccines which make our lives better.
Without animals for testing, how can scientists find out the vaccine for diseases? Animal right

For example, PETA supposes that animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for
entertainment. To abide by this principle, we must leave animals free to overrun and destroy our
property, to eat our food, even to kill our children (586). In my opinion, I do not think PETA
means to let the animal destroy the human s properties or kill children. PETA just wants to let
the animal have the free life, but we still put them under control. I cannot agree how the authors
explain PETA s principle, the authors approach that principle negatively and think PETA as a
bad association. The Vice President of The Humane Society Michael Fox explains, The life of

Story Of An Hour Literary Analysis Essay
The late nineteenth century short story Story of an Hour written by Kate Chopin is an influential
story about a young women with a heart condition, Mrs. Mallard who receives the news that her
husband had just passed away in a train wreck. While receiving this news she soon becomes
overwhelmed and excuses herself upstairs to her bedroom, where her attitude towards the death of
her husband drastically changes. Though she is upset about her husband s sudden death, she
realizes she now has something to be joyful about. When she is facing the open window, [in] a
comfortable, roomy armchair (Chopin, 1894, para. 4) she recognizes the importance of her freedom
from the confinement of her husband and the future opportunities that await her. Kate Chopinuses
symbols and imagery of springtime through the open window to express the feelings Mrs. Mallard
known as Louise experiences. The three main symbols that symbolize the renewal and freedom

end of the day. The clouds piling in the west signifies the wanting Mrs. Mallard had for her life to
end, thinking that she would always be under her husband s command. The light being where the
day ends symbolizes her clear bright view into the distance and the bright future awaiting her. As
the storm started to be lifted it was as if her freedom from the confinement of Brently were also
being raised. The beginning of the storm could be represented by the struggles between Louise and
Brently within their marriage and how once the clouds started to break and the sun began to peek
through, Louise was doing the same with her life. She was breaking free through the clouds that

appropriately dressed for and it s important to receive helpful advice from a person that plays
softball. In this essay you will be learning the basic things a softball player has to do, so she can be
dressed correctly before every game. Getting ready before a softball game can be a little
challenging because there is so much to it then just putting random softball clothes on and then
being ready to play. It will take time to get use to the process of preparing yourself before each
game, but you will get a hang of it the more you do it. If you follow the somewhat difficult process
that I will be giving you which contains 10 steps, and is about a 15 minute process, you will be

Important information that is needed to make sure you will be able to be appropriately ready
for a game is to have the vital items every softball player has. The clothes you have to have on for a
softball game are sports bra, jersey, softball pants, sliders, and socks. Just by my personal
experiences, you will need to always make sure that you get everything ready the night before
the game because it will help you tremendously with knowing where everything is the day of the
game. No one wants to wake up looking for their uniform and then not being able to find the
correct color socks and having to wear no socks at all or different color socks to the game. Just
make sure to have all the clothes needed to play a softball game because if not you will look
foolish and will definitely not be ready to play, and if you look good you ll play

Edgar Allan Poe Strengths And Weaknesses Essay
Strength vs. Weakness Edgar Allan Poe s short story, The Cask of Amontillado , can be
categorized as an American Gothic literary piece due to Poe s selection of elements introduced by
the narrator, whom s name is later revealed as Montresor, regarding the gloomy, mysterious,
suspenseful and terror filled atmosphere. These elements can be defined as tropes. Specific
characteristics of the genre are depicted throughout the plot by the narrations provided, such being
the greatly spacious and empty palazzo of the narrator, the subterranean passages, the catacombs,
the human remains, and the torches, or also knows as flambeaus. When analyzing Poe s male
protagonist and narrator, Montresor, the author s disposition is definitely a quality to take under
consideration. Poe was the son of actors, David and Elizabeth Poe, so due to constant traveling, his
father abandoned him and his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that Poe s psychological status affected his writings, ...he tirelessly explored subjects such as self
destruction, madness, and imagination in works such as The Imp of the Perverse , William Wilson

disposition. It is evident that Poe portrays many qualities and characteristics of himself and his life

The Most Significant Moment In My Life
We all have that moment in life that changes us in some ways. I think back at events in my life,
as an example the births of my children that caused me to grow into a mother and the woman I
am today. However, there is a moment in my life, after my children, I was psychologically lost.
This moment changed my life forever! I was married for thirteen years with five children. During
these thirteen years, I would be the head of the house hold and ensured structure in the house. My
husband at the time, was an addict and in/out of prison. We attempt counseling and all types of
treatment. The last six years together, we were very involved in church. My faith in God grew
and I believed my husband could be delivered from this addition. I had to be the strong one in the
family, the rock, the foundation of our house to give the perception to people we were okay.
After trying everything possible, I realized, only he can be in recovery of addiction, I cannot
make him. I had to make the decision to break up my family for the safety of my children. After
my separation, I became angry. My faith was questionable, and I was angry at God. My family
was torn, we lived with a friend in a small room. My step children had to live with their mom
because I could not afford to keep them. I no longer felt strong, or had structure in my house. The
feeling of failure and the mourning of the loss of my family was overwhelming. I began to drink
alcohol every day. My daily routine would consist of going to work and as soon as I got out I
would stop and get a Smirnoff Black, go home, cook for the three kids, leave work out, drink
and go out, go home at two am. The next six months, I did not care about anything or anyone. I
allowed these feelings to consume me. In September 2013, the first week, I was driving drunk, I
swerved and ran my mirror in to the wall. The second week, I was drunk and could not leave the
parking lot of a club, until the following morning. The third week, I was driving drunk to a friend
s house, and I remember fighting with him at the door way, and he asked me to leave. The next
thing I remember I woke up in a stranger s car, holding a blanket to my chin full of blood. The
young gentleman driving said, Miss, you

Smart Phones And Class Rooms
Alphonsine Sabiyumva English 12 9/04/2014 Smart Phones in Class Rooms One of the worst
massacre murders to ever occur in an American High School building was the 1999 shooting
rampage at Columbine High school in Littleton Colorado. There were 12 students and one teacher
who lost their lives because of this incident. Some schools across the country made new policies
to allow students to carry cell phones as a means to feel safe. After this incident however, there
were schools that continue to ban them. Those schools that don t allow cell phones feel they cause
distractions in class and can be used to cheat on a tests. Although there is a risk of students cheating

Imagine if these students that were murdered were in the same class rooms that we are In; or
another student parents that goes to ; they didn t have a cell phone to be able to call their
parents to tell me them what is happening and to contact the emergency room. Their parents
could get very worried and don t have a chance to talk to their child since they don t have cell
phones. In today s world there is a lot of students that bully others or get in many fights, when
that happens a lot of students do not have cell phone to be able to call for help or able to contact
their parents, or another teacher for help or call the police for help. Another major reason that
students should be able to their cell phone in a class room was in of 1929, the St. Valentine
massacre happened in Chicago IL. The massacre was the worse gang related killing that s ever
recorded, the victims that were a part of the massacre was young children. Majority of secondary
schools has a lot of gang violence going on. So it cause schools to go on lock downs due to
things that have happened around the school. So, for the student s safety, just in case the school
goes on lock frag down. Their parents would need to know. So the students could just call or text
their parents and tell them what s going on. Imagine if one of the students from our district was

Analysis Of The Book Marchers Of The Night
Whats In The Night The retelling of spooky ghost stories has been a favorite activity in many
cultures, wether it be around a campfire of written in various articles and book. Perhaps one of
the most mysterious supernatural activities can be reported on the islands of Hawaii. Known as
the Night Marchers, these spirits have been known to roam the land, revisiting ancient war sites
and significant historical landmarks. In the book, Marchers of the Night by Helen P. Hoyt, a
renowned Hawaiian author, he describes his first experience with the Huaka ipo, or the Night
Marchers. In all the hundred years of my life I have seen the Marchers of the Night, the Huaka ipo,
only twice... (Hoyt 1969). He then continues to explain how on the night of the sixth of August,
1918, a night sacred to Ku, ancient god of all warriors the Night Marchers, which their torches and
pounding drums came to his house in the town of Waianae. Based on the many stories about the
Night Marchers and the other cultures around the world who have similar spirits, I will attempt to
demonstrate that these ghosts are more fact than fiction. Hawaiihas a rich background of folklores
and mythology and it s link to the past in ever present. Stories of the Night Marchers were first
written about in the late 1900 s but they were orally passed down long before that. Their native
name is Huaka ipo, but was translated to english as the Night Marchers. The term derives from the
two words, huaka i which means to

  • 2. Similarities Between Rockefeller And Carnegie Rockefeller and Carnegie had similar backgrounds. Carnegie was a Scottish immigrant. Being an immigrant, he started off with little money. Rockefeller, while he was born and raised in the United States, came from a poor family, as his father was an often struggling peddler, and his mother stayed at home to raise the six children of the family. Both of them began working while they were struggling to make ends meet, but ended as two of the richest men in America. The two were also similar in business. Both (though Carnegie more than Rockefeller) used the method of giving bonuses and partnerships to those workers who were innovative and efficient. Along with this, both believed that cost cutting was the best was to ensure profits. Carnegie felt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not only it is a major component for bones in humans, it also serves other vital roles. Caffeine also may contribute to loss of bone by increasing calcium excretion and also a decrease in intestinal absorption efficiency of calcium (4). Calcium provides structure and hardness in bones and teeth, it allows muscle to contract and nerves to send signals, makes blood vessels expand and contract, helps to move blood clots, and it also plays a roles in supporting protein function and hormone regulation (3). Knowing calcium role, it is easy to see how it can lead to a decrease in bone density. Inadequate calcium intake can lead to decreased bone mineral density, which can increase the risk of bone fractures (13). A few ways an agent may increase fracture risk and/ or skeletal fragility include an interference with the bone remodeling process designed to detect and repair fatigue damage in bone structures and also a decrease in bone tissue mass either generally or in key architectural elements (12). • 4. Declassified Chairman Mao Declassified Chairman Mao is a documentary that traces Mao Zedong s various stages in his life to become China s most iconic and god like leader. His belief that China must be destroyed in order for the country to be rebuilt, killed millions and ravaged the country in the process. The first part covers his early life up to the Cultural Revolution (1949 1966). The second half covers the Cultural Revolution up until his time of death (1966 1976) followed by the emergence of a new China and new leadership. Some of the important events and people that are covered in the documentary include: the Great Leap Forward, Mao s loss of power in the Communist Party, Mao s wife Jiang Qing, and her role in helping Mao get back into power, Mao s philosophy that led to the Cultural Revolution, Mao s Red Guard , Lin Biao s rise and fall, the visit of President Nixon, the rise of Deng Xiao Ping, Mao s death and the arrest of the Gang of Four including the trial of Mao s wife, Jiang Qing.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overall, I thought that the timeline in the documentary was accurate. Additionally, I felt the documentary gave me some new insights about the events and the people who surrounded Mao. For example, I did not know that Lin Biao came up with the red book in order to show his loyalty to Mao. I was also unaware that Mao had been married four times. I also knew little of Mao s fourth wife Jiang Qing and the fact that she was not only previously an actress, but also her behind the scenes role in creating all the propaganda films during the Cultural ... • 5. Caribbean Green Sea Turtle Research Paper Our oceans are made of amazing species. Sea turtles are magnificent animals with four limbs bounded by bony girdles to a column of vertebrae leading to a neck topped by a skull with movable jaws. Sea turtles are unique because they stand out, present themselves, tolerate some of our advances, and mysterious as they are, they regularly crawl into our world. Sea turtles are unique because they have the potential to affect our marine environment in many ways. But many marine species are severely at risk of extinction. Sea turtles are endangered to live because of the high amount of garbage in oceans and shore, the chemicals in the oceans, and human unawareness about the turtles. While the problem of the decline of the sea turtles seems difficult... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overfishing and nutrient pollution of the seas have brought increasing blooms of jellyfish. These blooms cause tourist beaches to close, clog cooling intakes at power plants, and burst our trawl nets, but leatherbacks are loving it. (Our Sea Turtles) A leatherback concentrates in eating jellies, including the nastier stinging ones. It is unbelievable how this unintended environmental increase has influenced leatherback numbers. When most of the loggerheads migrated into the Chesapeake Bay, it was because the food was disappearing and they feasted on the bay s plenty of horseshoe crabs. Then, this primitive arthropod with no food appeal to humans suddenly became commercially valuable as bait for eel and whelk traps. (Our Sea Turtles) As the produce of horseshoe increased, their abundance declined, and loggerhead left with more desperate to catch blue crabs. Loggerhead was enforced with another diet change when over harvest in the Chesapeake blue crab fishery condensed this prey item as well. Loggerhead in the bay became relying on the scavenging for fish bycatch or the dead remnants of fish discarded by net fishers. (Our Sea Turtles) One of the biggest ecological challenges to sea turtles in a changing world is where to nest. (Our Sea Turtles) Most of the seas are rising, and the sea turtle s nests will go away. • 7. My Life Changing Experience From time to time I relive this part of my life with an ashamed perspective. It all begins to come back to me on the morning of December 16th, I awoke after a sleepless night of exercising, flushing my system with water and with mixed emotions about even prayed. I went through this because four nights previous I had raved it up at a party smoking a copious amount of weed. This I consider to be my life changing experience. Generally speaking I ve always been a good kid with high morals and couldn t see myself to be tempted to drugs or alcohol, especially since my parents said they d kill me if they caught me doing that kinda stuff. How I got into this mess begins with me being at a happy point in my life. I had a friend, a girl (who I ll... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consequently this led me to experiment with something stronger, which happened to be weed. This idea first came to me when I would see a couple of my friends smoking over the app Snapchat, while I was viewing their stories. So me being interested I asked one of my friends if I could join them next time they did and he agreed. After that first weekend, I was instantly hooked to it and spent the next weekend smoking weed with them again. For the most part I was originally doing this to help cope with my best friend leaving but as time worn on I just grew plain addicted. Furthermore this started to cause me to make more poor decisions. After becoming accustomed to weed, I would start to buy bottles of hard liquor for myself. This I would drink after school about every other day during the weekdays. Recalling back, I think the dumbest I ever done was during New Year s Eve, I went to a hotel and smoked several times within a few hours, then went to a party to drink. At around one o clock I drove home and I remember how badly I was shaking for how nervous I was to get pulled over, thankfully I managed to get home successfully. As I was getting more attached to this kind of life I was progressively feeling really shitty about myself. First was due to the amount of lying I was telling to my parents and second was how far I had let myself down. All things considered I look back at the drug test I took for a job interview as a ... GC3 is gaining revenue off of premium coffee that was created by their top competitors Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts. This company has performed financially with the concept of a larger cup size. The company has also created top performers and gained revenue. Considering this, there are still financial decisions that need to be improved and to do this the company needs to look at all their financial status records and ratios. GC3 financials show that they had a gross margin of $110,580 and went up to $111,922 in 2013 (Great Cups of Coffee, n.d.). From 2013 to 2014, you also see a decrease in long term debt to equity ratio. When having a lower debt to equity ratio, demonstrates financial health for the company. The most famous quote that Sagan tells the story of this movie is that there is billions and billions of stars up there . The fascinating science fiction film/thriller of that century, Contact, combines many concepts that do not usually go together or are thought about in relation to each other. That being the concept of faith, politics, and most importantly science. This movie was released on July 11th, 1997 by producers Robert Zemeciks and Steve Starkey. Dr.Ellie Arroway played by Jodie Foster rushes to translate a message that they think could be coming from the Vegastar system. When contact at first happens, Dr.Ellie Arroway communicates with the constricting National Security Advisor Kitz who is played by James Woods. After this unravels, they go in to see the possible problems with occurrence of this event. An out breaking message is discovered in the signal, but the question is will Arroway be the only one to be able to solve it or will there be more involved to help including theory s and arguments? Science versus religion is one of the main topics and many topics of this movie which I can agree on as I watched this thriller. Ellie doesn t believe in god and doesn t have a set religion and Palmer does so they clash personalities a lot throughout Contact. I took interest in one character while watching Contact. ... After much innovations of 21st century technology, Emirates establish its first A380 airbus fleet in 2010 and still expanding. Due to much effect of human activity, global temperature is rising at a fast rate per year, which leads to serious changes in climate and weather. This results in aviation industries to be badly affected as the changes will lead to flight delays and bumper flights due to mid air turbulence. Thus Emirates does take this factor into serious considerations and started carrying out its Go Green plan in 2011 to reduce emition of greenhouse gases. Airplanes can cause an increase in greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) thus Emirates carry out its flight operations using Biofuel. • 12. Irony in Pride and Prejudice Irony in Pride and Prejudice Irony forms the alma mater of Jane Austen s novels. Likewise, Pride and Prejudice is steeped in irony of theme, situation, character, and narration. Austen uses it to establish the contrast between appearance and reality. As one examines Pride and Prejudice , one discovers the ironic significance of how pride leads to prejudice and prejudice invites pride. Importantly, the novel elucidates how both Pride and Prejudice have their corresponding virtues bound up within them: an intricate relationship that is at once contradictory yet deep. This goes in parlance with the critics of Austen who hold that she used irony as a shield to express her radical ideas. It enables her to expose the ills behind ... He removes Bingley from Netherfield because he considers it imprudent to forge a marriage alliance with the Bennet Family, but himself ends up marrying the second Bennet sister. Collins proposes to Elizabeth when her heart is full of Wickham and Darcy proposes to her exactly at the moment when she hates him most. Elizabeth tells Mr. Collins that she is not the type to reject the first proposal and accept the second but does exactly this when Darcy proposes a second time. The departure of the militia from Meryton was expected to put an end to Lydia s flirtations. Ironically, it brings about her elopement. The Lydia Wickham episode may seem like an insurmountable barrier between Elizabeth and Darcy, but is actually instrumental in bringing them together. Lady Catherine, attempting to prevent their marriage only succeeds in hastening it. Irony in character is even more prominent than irony of situation. It is ironical that Elizabeth who prides herself on her perception is quite blinded by her own prejudices and she errs in judging intricate characters. Wickham appears suave and charming but is ... ECONOMIC SOCIETAL When it comes to the societal aspect of the country of Qatar, its residents have been divided into three different groups. the Hadar, Bedouin, and Abd. How people learn lessons and the impact of those lessons vary greatly. The many lessons I have learned have made me who I am today. Out of all the lessons I have learned so far, the one that impacted me the most was also the hardest lesson I have ever had to face. Almost everyone has to learn some version of this lesson at some point in their lives. I had just got in the car with my mom, I had been worrying about Lucky all day and was anxious to hear what my mother had to say. Lucky was a partially blind 15 year old Jack Russell Terrierthat my parents got in Belgium before I was born. He was an only dog and had always been throughout my childhood, so when he began peeing in the house all the time and not eating, I was extremely concerned. I knew that my mom had brought him to the vet that day so my first question was How is Lucky? . My mom was acting much different than usual, she was very quiet and sad. She told me that the vet said Lucky had kidney disease and all they could do is give him pain medicine and try to keep him alive until that weekend when my dad got home from a work trip in California. Education mirrors the world we live in, and that is, change is inevitable. However, this process is not always accepted by the entire staff of a school and may be found burdensome to others. As a teacher leader, when certain changes in the schooltake place regarding a rule, the entire staff needs to come together to ensure the rule is being implemented and enforced. One such change that is happening at my school is the once a week mandatory meeting of all PLC teams. The decision to implement mandatory PLC meetings did not go over well with all teachers. When a school makes a rule or policy change, there are parts of the organization, such as the political, human resource, and cultural perspective that feel the effect. I am part of a vast school district in Texas. I understand that this rule change about PLC meetings came from school leaders that are higher up in the organizational structure, and moved down the chain of command from the principals to the teachers. Understanding the structure of an organization is critical for the organization to move forward (Laureate Education, Inc., 2007). My district believes and supports the different PLC teams in the school district. • 22. Analysis Of The Minstrel Shows Saxton portrays the minstrel shows as entertainment that provided a ground for topics difficult to handle as a means of social commentary for the urban working class to level their cultural capital with elite planters. The minstrel shows first became popular as they provided a glimpse into the culture taking place in the developing urban cities of the time. Saxton writes that, through that window appeared cultural identifications and hostilities, ethnic satire, and social and political commentary of wide ranging, sometimes radical character. (pg. 68) The founders of minstrelsy were northern and urban; they defied the traditional, religious lifestyles and sought unconventional occupations in the world of entertainment. These men had to find something new and exciting that would stand out in the inhospitable entertainment world. They believed that the satirical aspect of blackface minstrelsy would allow for such a freedom of subject matter that would permit topics that were deemed to be prohibited. Shows referenced forbidden topics such as homosexuality and masturbation. Saxton notes that the point here is not the prevalence of homosexuality, but the tolerance of sexuality in general, the realism and the flexibility of standards that flourished behind the false facade of blackface presentation. (pg. 73) The minstrels borrowed the music and dance of slaves and altered them sufficiently to be more acceptable to the white, urban class. As the show developed, it transformed ... As a child, one would sip hot chocolate and watch a movie with their family. However, Jeannette Walls would be sitting on a dirty floor, cold with no food. In The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, it is revealed that as Jeannette grew up, she endured hardships inflicted upon her by her own parents. However, if Jeannette had not gone through these things, she never would have gained the characteristics that she values present day. Although Jeannette Walls faced destitution and endured anguish during her childhood, these obstacles formed her into a self reliant woman who proves that just because she did not have as much money as other families, she can still achieve success in her life. Throughout her life, starting from childhood, Jeannette Walls suffered through multiple hardships that could lead her away from a successful adult life. Since she was young, her parents put her through things that a child should never be exposed to, which could lead her to make these same mistakes as she grew older. For example, her father was an alcoholic, and from this many problems sprouted. Furthermore, her mother never wanted to be tied down, and loathed the idea of family life, as she did not want the responsibility of raising a family. Rose Mary was depicted as self centered in the novel, and did not think of her children, as she only thought of her own needs. This can be shown when she keeps the diamond ring her children found for herself. Instead of thinking of her starving children, she states that, self esteem is even more vital than food (Walls 186). In this moment, Rose Mary shows that she is not thinking of her children and what they need to survive, but only cares about herself and what she has. Under these circumstances, any other parent would use the ring to buy food for their children, but instead she shows her inconsiderate nature by keeping the ring for herself. Another example of an event that could scar Jeannette far into her life would be when her father brought her to a bar and allowed a strange drunk man to take Jeannette to his apartment. Through these television programs, people are exposed to many issues in the representation of women, children, gender, sexuality, and race. Racial stereotypes are still evident today, even though times have changed since the early 1900s. They provide negative or false assumptions about a variety of groups, as well as ideas that do not necessarily pertain to every person. Fox Tv s show Glee is an accurate portrayal of the many racial stereotypes that are apparent in today s society. Glee offers viewers a complex construction of racethat both perpetuates negative racial stereotypes for humorous purposes and attempts to disrupt stereotypical notions of token characters. The exposure of race/ethnic groups can be seen throughout various media contexts, however television offers recurring characters that viewers can identify and continue to form meaningful bonds with. • 31. The Humoral Theory Of William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet The humoral theory is one of the oldest theories of Medicine that proposed that our bodies are made up of four different humours: black bile, blood, phlegm, and yellow bile. It was believed that while in good health the humours were in a harmonious balance throughout the body but illness is said to have disrupted that balance causing one or more humour to become disordered. It is also said that the mind is effected by the equilibrium of the four temperamentsknown as melancholic, sanguine, choleric, and phlegmatic and that they dispersed to make up certain characteristics or personality traits. Critics have long described Shakespeare as using these humours and temperaments as a way for the audience to understand the character, plot and other aspects of his plays. In such plays as Romeo and Juliet where critics have described Romeo as being a melancholy figure it is exceptionally brought about by using the four humours involved in the humoral theory that is said to have first originated by Hippocrates and later elaborated on by Galen. The four humours include Black Bile which is related to the melancholic temperament and said to be associated with the element earth, the season of winter, the planet Saturn, the spleen, and cold and dry qualities. Crane does not attest to mannerism or social norms , he says the outright truth despite its emotional effect. This sense of emotional truth can be interpreted as harsh to a reader, but is the best way of communicating the emotional truths of a story. This style can be observed when Crane depicts Henry s cognition. We can observe how he contemplates fighting or running, and the amount of guilt he feels as well. It s in no way glamorous to be in fear, it s not sexy to leave the tattered soldier behind to die, it s in no way acceptable to fake an injury to avoid fighting. These facts are disclosed despite how appealing they are, this sense of truth, sets Cranes writing apart entirely. 1st Person: The youth, light footed, was unconsciously in advance. • 43. Analysis Of Shakespeare s Antigone And Julius Caesar Piper Jacobs 12/23/2014 Literature Survey II Honors Essay: Antigone and Julius Caesar Option 3 The involvement of women is very important in the two stories, Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare and Antigone by Sophocles. Throughout each story it becomes clear that the ideas and biases surrounding women play an important part in how society views women, and how women see themselves. Readers also see these ideas spread into the minds of women affecting what they do in their life, and how they act. Antigone and Ismene, from Antigone, and Calpurnia and Portia, from Julius Caesar are both examples of this major theme. These four women heavily influence their play and the outcome. Because of this it is clear to see the importance and relevance of women in Antigone and Julius Caesar. In both Antigone and Julius Caesar the societal views that women are weak, submissive and inferior play a major role in each story and their conclusions. In Antigone, King Creon is shocked when he discovers that it is Antigone that disobeys him. The betrayer was right under his nose, but he was too blind to see it. King Creon was blinded by the belief that women are inferior. Likewise, in Julius Caesar, women are considered inferior. When Portia, Brutus wife, wants Brutus to trust her she has to prove herself strong by stabbing herself. It is the societal view of women that makes her have to prove herself. Another major example of this is when the threat of being considered weak by his peers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
