Ted Bundy Research Paper
Ted Bundy was born in Burlington, Vermont on November 24 1946. Ted was an illegitimate
child, his mother was not married and she was in her early twenties which was socially looked
down upon. Her mother and he then moved in with his mother s grandparents. Ted was then told a
lie that her mother was her sister and the grandparents was his parents. In 1951, his mother married
and had several children, which in that point everything looked normal. During his adolescent
years he was teased in school, never really fit in school. It was also during this time that he was told
the truth about the lies that he is an illegitimate child, his mother lying about being his sister and his
parents are actually his grandparents. Up until he enrolled into University of Washington in 1966,
he ran into trouble with the law but nothing very serious to be concerned about.... Show more

He was also in a relationship with girl who was popular, beautiful, and rich. However after a year
into the relationship she broke up with him for his lack life plan. This was a devastated Ted but
he was determine to win her back. By 1974 he was a rising star in the Republican Party and
managed to win his ex girlfriend back. However, when the couple were in talks of marriage he
quickly cut all contact with everyone and went off the grid. In February of 1974 is when he
abducted and killed his first victim, a 21 year old female college student. In the next few months
he would abduct and kill five more female college students at the University of Washington. After
those abductions in July of 1974, he went to Lake Sammamish State Park and abducted and killed

The Emotional Struggles Associated With Raising An...
1.The emotional struggles associated with raising an exceptional child are complex and
innumerable. Many parents describe a pendulum of feelings that are both overwhelming and
intense. Such emotions include shock, denial, grief, guilt, confusion, exhaustion, determination,
frustration, acceptance, and love. Some parents have even expressed gratitude towards their
exceptional child, stating that their child has taught them a new meaning of love and they feel that
they ve become a better person for having gone through the experience of raising and supporting an
exceptional child. It s impossible to fully comprehend these feelings without having been through
them yourself, but, even so, your heart goes out to both these parents and their children, especially
if you are the childs teacher.
The two emotions I would like to discuss are frustration and determination. A frustrated parentmay
be so thoroughly overwhelmed with everything going on in their life that they ve seemingly
given up. Some of these parents have multiple children as well as jobs and other concerns.
Although I m sure they would wish to give their exceptional child their complete and utter
attention/concern that is not always physically possible. In a case like this, as a teacher, I would
try my best to offer whatever support I could. I would gather resources, provide options, and offer
advice on how to best support the child s academic needs. I would make myself available to the
parent for open

Piaget And Piaget Similarities
The human brain has always been a subject of great interest to psychologists and researches. Over
the years, many theorists have developed different models and approaches on how the mind works
and what happens behind the scene when learning occurs. Scientifically speaking, learning theorists
have been concerned about areas of psychologyof learning which emphasizes human cognition or
intelligenceas a special endowment enabling man to form hypotheses and develop intellectually in
other words cognitivism which is also known as cognitive development
(Teachinglearningresources.pbworks.com, 2011). Therefore, cognitive development is concerned
about how learning, problem solving and memory works along with how cultural differences affect
the way we view our own academic achievements, language development, and much more
(Feldman, 2010). Two famous influential theorists of cognitivism are Jean Piaget(1896 1980) and
Jerome Bruner (1915 2016). They both consider how cognitive development takes place at different
stages but their theories are also fundamentally different.

through 4 distinct stages and Bruner through 3 different modes. In their representations, they both

capacity to learn. Similarly, they both agreed that the child is a key contributor in the learning
process with a great sense of curiosity and have an active participation in the cognitive growth. The
use of visual images and symbols are equally important to both theories in the process of knowledge
acquisition. In teaching, both theorist will agree that the teacher act as a facilitator and guide and
should adapt to the need of the learner at different development

Psychopathology of Vince Li
The death of greyhound passenger Tim Mclean was caused by the untreated mental illnesses
(antisocial personality disorder and Schizophrenia) of Vince Li. The actions of Vince Li can be
described by using a branch of psychology called psychopathology. Psychopathology is the study of
mental illnesses in individuals. It uses scientific reasoning to help understand how a person s
thoughts and emotions incorporate with their behaviour patterns. In the case of Vince Li, he had
two mental illnesses called antisocial personality disorder and Schizophrenia that made him make a
tragic choice in August 2008. Antisocial personality disorder addresses... Show more content on

Family history of Antisocial personality disorder can increase the risk of the newborns being
affected with the mental illness. For the environmental factors, if a child has been abused or
neglected through childhood the child would have a risk of having antisocial personality
disorder through to adulthood (Tuvblad and Beaver, 2014). As adulthood approaches, any
jailtime, alcohol abuse or severe depression increase the risk of having antisocial personality
disorder to a much higher extent. Research has been done to show that Antisocial personality
disorder needs a much larger sensory input for normal brain function. Patients with antisocial
personality disorder are known to have decreased pulse rates, and show less activity in the brain
(Tuvblad and Beaver, 2014). The various studies of the brain suggest that the irregular brain
function is a cause of antisocial behavior. The science behind the brain of a patient with antisocial
personality disorder are the neurotransmitters called serotonin that is directly related with mood
and social behaviour while dopamine is correlated with impulsive/aggressive behaviour (Baker,
Bezdjian, and Raine, 2008). The temporal lobes and the prefrontal cortex aid in controlling the
mood and the behavior of an individual. The poorly controlled brain behavior stems show an
abnormal amount of serotonin and dopamine levels in the brain

Hip Hop Vs Jazz Music Essay
What if someone would make a mash up of the two music genres, jazz and hip hop? Jazz music
can date to the early 1900 s but there is no specified founder (www.jazzinamerica.org). Hip hop
can also trace back to an approximate start date, but there is not just one creator (Errey 1997). Jazz
and hip hop have many similarities along with their numerous differences. Jazzmusic and hip hop
music are both genres of music that have long histories and have lots of similarities and
differences, too. First of all, the historical timeline of jazz is very long and complicated, leading
to no single founder of the genre. A thick horde of dark bodies frames into circular gatherings
maybe five or six hundred people moving so as to the pulsations of the music (www.nytimes.com).
This could be an African country or just about everywhere (www.nytimes.com). But, this is New
Orleans, The Big Easy (www.nytimes.com). Crazy, right, how diverse this country is? Anyway,
this is where some people believe jazz first started. However, this source claims, The city that was
the birthplace of jazz was New Orleans...would... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One difference is that both genres use different instruments. Jazz uses many orchestral
instruments, while hip hop, as stated previously, uses mostly computer generated sounds and
beats. An example of this is comparing The Sound of Silence and Hotline Bling s instrumental
use. The Sound of Silence uses a trumpet while Hotline Bling uses technologically edited
sounds. Another difference is the genres birthplaces. Jazz was in the New Orleans area, while
hip hop was more near New York City (Kumar 2011). The genres uses of improvisation are
starkly different (Kumar 2011). Jazz music usually has one musician who goes off and does an
improvised thing as the other musicians keep playing the melody, while in hip hop music, the
melody doesn t usually keep playing while the person rapping

Taylor Family Research Paper
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Christmas was always in my mind no
matter what time of year it was. I discovered a couple months back that our close family friends,
the Taylors, could not afford anything to get their children any Christmas presents. I had a
prompting to share this detail with the rest of my family members and we acted upon this news.
We decided to take this opportunity to serve our great family friends, which we owed so much to
them for all that they have done for us. We decided to save our money and that we each would not
get more than five Christmaspresents for ourselves. Instead, we would have our Christmas
presents be contributed towards the family. That would be our Christmas present. To be able to
give back and see how happy the Taylor family would be on Christmas day.... Show more content

This list was very long, for they have fifteen members of their family. Preparing the list meant that
the next step was shopping for the family. That also meant a lot of shopping for the Taylor family.
Another act of service was shown when our other family friends, the Gilberts, donated two
thousand dollars to help purchase gifts for the Taylor family. They are also close with the Taylors
and wanted to help contribute to this Secret Santa act.
As the list was finally finished, the shopping began. I got to travel to many stores with my
mother as we searched for the needed items for the Taylors. I couldn t contain my excitement
while we were shopping. I just had a joyful feeling as we shopped. It really brought the Christmas
spirit and made me even more excited to hear about the Taylors Christmas. We collected and
bought all the presents for the Taylors and our living room was filling up with the many gifts. That
meant it was time for us to begin

Evolution Of Primate Intelligence Essay
The evolution of primate intelligence.
Intro and summary
Inquisitiveness, probably one if the most important trait a human being exhibits. This characteristic
has also extended to our quest to understand own past. One of the most fundamental reasons why
we are interested in the other primates is to obtain a precise view of how our ancestor may have
lived. Trying to get an insight into their environment, food, and social structure. Although there is
no direct evidence to prove that we as human beings have descended from any modern type
monkey or ape, our genealogy does indicate that we have gone through stages, in which we
possibly evolved from a relatively medium sized creature with good binocular vision, hands with
good dexterity the ability to climb trees. An evolutionary trend seen in primates involves the
development of offspring both before and after birth and their assimilation into ... Show more

Another trait seen in primate evolution has been a more elaborate brain. In addition to brain size and
gestation periods, the social organization also demonstrates and plays an important role in primate
evolution due to its complexity and hierarchy.
Brain evolution
The fundamental explanation for the evolution of large relative brain size in early primates remains
undetermined and disputed (Insel). In particular, the neocortex of many primates has undergone
substantial expansion, and has reached its largest in humans (Rilling and Insel, 1999). The
neocortex is generally associated with, cognitive memory, and higher order information processing.
Emotions such as fear, happiness, jealousy and understanding the need for conflict resolution stem
from this part of the brain. Although, many theories have been put forth to account for cerebral
expansion in primates, Epiphenomenal and developmental models have interpreted brain

Of Creon The Tragic Hero In Sophocles Antigone
What is a tragic hero? A tragic hero is someone who was well respected, but their tragic flaw led to
their fall. In Sophocles Antigone, it could be argued that either Creon or Antigone is the tragic hero.
I argue Creon is the tragic hero in this play. Antigone has the main character as Antigone the
daughter of the famous Oedipus, who married his mother and killed his father. At the beginning of
the play Oedipus has died and Antigones power hungry brothers have killed each other, Polynices
being made as a traitor and left unburied, worthless. Antigone s sister, Ismene, is her only sibling
left, though she is one to follow the rules. Antigone plans to bury her brother even though Creonhas
forbid it, this is where the conflict begins. Antigone

Essay on The Ontological Argument for the Existence of God
The Ontological Argument for the Existence of God
The ontological argument is an a priori argument. The arguments attempt to prove God s existence
from the meaning of the word God. The ontological argument was introduced by Anselm of
Canterbury in his book Proslogion. Anselm s classical argument was based on two principals and
the two most involved in this is St Anselm of Canterbury as previously mentioned and Rene
Descartes.
The ontological argument argues that if you understand what it means to talk about God, you will
see His existence is necessarily true. Anselm defined God as that than which nothing greater can be
conceived , hence God must exist. Anselm also believed that even ... Show more content on

If He did not exist, then you could still think of an even greater being (one just like God that you
said did not exist, except this one would exist). Existence must be one of God s attributes because
to remove it, you would still be able to fathom a greater God (one which does exist). The problem
most have with this argument is that it seems to simply list existence among God s attributes, rather
than show it. The argument appears to say whatever you can imagine should be true in reality.
Descartes claimed God exists is true, if we know what it means to talk of God. Similarly, he
maintained that once we know what a triangle is we know that it must have three sides. Like a
triangle inherently must have three sides, so God inherently must exist.
Objections to the ontological argument were first brought up by a monk who was a contemporary
of Anselm named Gaunilo. He said that according to Anselm s line of reasoning, if he envisioned
an island that is beautiful and sparkling and completely perfect, then it must exist. For an island
that does exist would be more perfect than one that does not exist. Gaunilo said that we cannot
simply define things into existence. We cannot show an island or God exists simply by analyzing
that idea.
A critique of Descartes comes from the philosopher David Hume who argued against the

Quick, Roger wants to jump off the cruiser!!! cried Eric, I have no time to explain; Sam is holding

I have to go and stop him now, said Ralph, you go and inform the officer immediately
The two boys ran off quickly in different directions. Ralph sprinted as fast as he could to the fan

I dare you to get your hands off me and let me return to the island!!! demanded Roger madly at Sam.
Sam kept holding on to Roger waiting for Eric to go and call somebody for help. Later Ralph came

Aviation Development With Jet Propulsion Projects For...
Through the course of the Second World War, Germany partook in numerous courses of research
and development of weapons systems and platforms that were believed that they could help win
the war more quickly and later hopefully turn the tide of the war. Of these the more ambitious and
advanced attempts without doubt were the projects dubbed as Germany s Wunderwaffen, or
Wonder Weapons , by the nation s Propaganda network. Several of these projects proved
instrumental to advancement of many people of the world after the war, be such for military or
civilian development, and they ranged between the practical to outright insane in scope. Through
the course of this paper I will present and analyze a variety of these Wunderwaffe projects from
different areas of development and what effect they had during or after the war for technological
development. The first topic that will be covered will be that of Aviation development with Jet
propulsion projects for aircraft within the Luftwaffe. Second will be projects involving several
munitions projects that Germany had undertaken during the course of the Second World War.
Aviation Projects Prior to and through World War Two, Germany pursued numerous projects of
advancement for its new fledgling Luftwaffe, one of such being the pursuit of Jet propulsion and
how to apply them to designs. One of the first of these combat designs with Jet engines was the

Under the NEP peasants handed over half of the food they produced to the government. Whatever
surplus was left they could sell for profit. The policy gave peasants an incentive to work the more
food they produced, the richer they became. Food production expanded. The best, most successful
farmers became known as kulaks. They became rich because of the NEP. In industry, the most
successful workers became known as Nepmen. The NEP resulted in huge increases in production in
all sectors of the Russian economy.
However in January 21st 1924 Lenin died. Lenin had a pragmatic and realistic approach to

organisation and leadership of the Bolshevik party transformed it.
When Lenin died in January 1924 he had nominated Leon Trotsky as his chosen successor. Yet it
was Joseph Stalin who was eventually to emerge as leader of the party. This was largely because
Stalin was a clever and astute politician, who was seen as being a man of the people. He was able

Theatricalism, for the purpose of answering the question, is the following of a 20th century theatre
movement, that rather than being focused on the natural world, and staying true to that realism,
focused on the story and lesson to be said and taught without regard to whether or not the work

While The Lottery is a fictitious story it can be argued that it mirrors the attitude of American
culture in how it addresses religious tradition in its major holidays and celebrations.
Two of the biggest holidays in the United States are Christmas and Easter. Both of which are
derived from Christian beliefs. Even though The Lottery is apparently a pagan ritual, violent and
horrific, it is appropriate, only by the fact that the participants no longer remember, or seem to care,

Only when we are introduced to Old Man Warner, the only man in the village old enough to
remember some of the traditions, do we get an idea of the purpose of the lottery. It seems to be a
pagan harvest ritual, as expressed by his old saying: ??Lottery in June, corn be heavy soon??
(Jackson 369). By participating in the lottery the villages crops will prove to be bountiful. He
justifies the use of the lottery simply by stating ?There?s always been a lottery? (Jackson 369).
Furthermore, Old Man Warner is horrified at the thought of ever stopping the lottery. When another
villager speaks of other towns that have done away with the lottery he says, ?Pack of crazy fools?
(Jackson 369),and ?Nothing but trouble in that? (Jackson 369)
Only two traditions survive from the original ritual: the drawing of lots by the head of the
households and subsequent drawing of the chosen family, and the use of stones for the dastardly
deed.
By using the heads of households in the initial round of the lottery, the blame could be passed

expressed by ?Don?t you have a grown boy to do it for you, Janey?? (Jackson 368) and ?Glad to

modern life, sifting through the cloudy American mind that s full of seemingly useless
information, in search of what s truly important in life. This happens through the stories two main

The second engages William in a taxi cab conversation that shuffles his priorities and forces him

Political Politics Of The United States Essay
A diverse society requires a pluralistic political structure in order to enfranchise citizens and
allow the broadest scope of opinions to be heard. The United States has a rich history filled with
specific examples of how an individual s voice carries enough weight to make both a difference.
However, a person s ability to make a political impact does not necessitate eloquence and or
individual intrepidity. Rather, our Founding Fathers carefully crafted a democratic system in which
the voices of every individual were given significance and influence through their right to vote in
elections.
Unfortunately, political elections are not as idealistic as our fore fathers may have intended. In
recent years, political campaigns in the United States have become an increasingly distasteful
process in recent years, specifically in regard to the way in which they are funded. Political
campaigns are regularly fuel by greed, power and a shady procurement of financial support. This
corruption promotes inequitable campaign procedures, and almost never results in a fair and
unbiased candidate victory. In recognition of this exploitation of power, steps have been taken by
federal and state legislatures to regulate rampant unethical funding in political elections. In response
to these efforts, two distinct sides have emerged. Proponents of campaign finance limits argue that
wealthy donors and corporations hold too much sway in elections and as a result, corrupt
campaigns. Those favoring less

A Popular Model Designed By Bruce W. Tuckman
So what are genres? When most people are asked this question they will reply with something
like science fiction, horror, mystery, or romance. While these are not fundamentally wrong
answers, those with such responses do not understand the full breadth of what genres truly are.
According to the dictionary, a genre is a class or category of artistic endeavor having a particular
form, content, technique, or the like (Genre). Still though this does not capture the full breadth
of what a genre really is. To explain how genres form, dynamically change, and serve their
purposes we must first take a step back and look at some other fundamental concepts. A popular
model designed by Bruce W. Tuckman suggests that all groups experience five phases: forming,
storming, norming, performing, and adjourning (Gulati 439 440). At our cores, humans seek to be
accepted and acknowledged by others. We seek to form social hierarchies to find meaning the
areas we are passionate about. This part of human nature is nothing new, it is something
programmed deep into our genes for millennia. It happens before our eyes every day; sports fans
meet in stadiums, video game fans meet at conventions, artists meet at exhibitions, and so on.
People of similar interest meet, one way or another, and are drawn together by their passion. Some
groups remain small friend circles, while others may grow vastly to be composed of millions of
members. These vast communities, known as discourse communities,

Contributions Of George Washington
George Washington (1789 1797) George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 to
Augustine and Mary Ball Washington in Pope s Creek, Virginia. Even though he was born in
Pope s Creek, Washington actually spent most of youth at a plantation called the Ferry Farm
near Fredericksburg. There, he grew up with his 6 brothers and 3 sisters. Three of his brothers
were his half brothers and one of sisters was his half sister from his father s first marriage.
Washington was educated and went schools near him. He was not able to afford the luxuries of
private tutors and studying abroad because his father died when he was 11. His formal education
ended when he was 15. In 1959, he married Martha Washington who he stayed until he died
without any children of his own. Before becoming president, Washington was a county surveyor as
well as General in a soldier. He died on December 14, 1799 in Mount Vernon, Virginia.
On June 19, 1775, Washington was named Commander in Chief of the Continental Army by the
Congress. He was elected because of his military background from the French Indian War although
it did not prepare him for anything the Revolution offered. However, he had courage, determination,
and mental agility.
On July 4, 1776, George Washingtonsigned the Declaration of Independence. John Adams (1797

The Issue Of A Child s Life On My Intersex Child
In society today, people are always told what gender to be. For example, if a masculine man
wants to wear a dress, he will be shunned from society because dresses are for girls therefore he
shouldn t be wearing one. Now for an intersex baby , the doctors practically decide for the child
what sex they want the baby to be. Doctors will make up lies and tell the parents that it is
necessary for to have surgery because of the baby s health but that s a huge fallacy. If given the
opportunity to choose the genderon my intersex child, I would oppose toward the surgery of
modifying his or her sex. I may not be conforming with the social norm, but I also strongly believe
that my child should make the choice of what gender they want to be when they are older.
Intersex babies nowadays are being decided what sex they will be according to what the doctor
prefers. Parents are being told that their babies have to have surgery because if not, then they
may become sick in the long run. This is absolutely not true. That so called sickness that doctors
refer to is just a matter of being able to fit into society. For example, in Dueling Dualisms by
Fausto sterling, she argues that the issue is that because one is born a certain sex that that s the
gender role they are suppose to play in society. She writes that what is at issue is the embodied
nature of identities and experience. Experience is not individual and fixed, but irredeemably social
and processual. With this being said, as a

How Water Shapes Michigan
How Water Shapes Michigan
While introducing myself to people, I use my hands as a guide to where I live in Michigan. This is
very common for people to do in the state of Michigan. The state of Michigan is very interesting
geographically and how much water has shaped the state is shocking. Water has shaped the land of
Michigan through erosion, deposition, and transportation. Examples of these include rivers,
glaciers, and human influences.
The water cycle is essential to the water systems surrounding Michigan. Shown on the picture, the
water cycle has several steps, but the main processes are evaporation, condensation, and
precipitation. Evaporation occurs when the water heats up and changes into a gaseous state,
dispersing into the atmosphere. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many manmade devices come in to play when dealing with water surrounding Michigan,
including canals and locks. The Keweenaw Peninsula at the northwestern end of the Upper
Peninsula, in the past, connected to the rest of the UP, until a decision was made to dig a canal,
using a small river previously used for transportation, helping boats travel easier from one end of
Lake Superior to the other. The Keweenaw waterway, constructed in the 1860s has made a huge
impact on Michigan. The canal has especially affected the towns surrounding the canal. It has
brought economic success to the area including tourism, boating, and aesthetic appeal. On the other
end of the Upper Peninsula is the Sault Ste. Marie Locks. The Soo Locks, built in 1855, connect
Lake Superior to Lake Huron and beyond. The other great lakes are at a lower sea level and the
locks help transport the boats. This manmade structure is essential for ships to travel between lakes
and transports

Pros And Cons Of Pressure Cookers
The Best Pressure Cookers Taking the Time Out of Cooking
My list of the best pressure cookers takes the many different options and brands and boils them
down to those that make quick work of slow cooked recipes. They can handle a variety of tasks;
from chili, stew, and soups to steaming vegetables perfectly and making yogurt without scalding
the ingredients. Things to consider before buying a pressure cooker are if you want a stovetop or
electric model, and what you are going to use the machine for.
Stovetop models have higher pressure settings than electric cookers, but not as many functions,
custom settings, or pre sets. For more information and a list of pros and cons of the best pressure

optimization of the various reaction parameters. In this optimization, we investigated the effect
of parameters such as various oxidants additives, bases, solvent and various equivalents of the
oxidant and additive. The results are shown in Table 2. The benzoic anhydride product 2a was

Jay Z Decoded Sparknotes
In the book Decoded, rapper and businessman Jay Z describes the emergence of hip hop culture
while sharing his childhood memories, life challenges, and passions. Along with Jay Z s
personal narrative, he provides an explanation for his song lyrics to educate readers about hip
hop s importance, his life, and national issues. Thus, he creates several arguments about hip hop
s purpose in the music industry. Two of Jay Z s main arguments consisted of hip hop being a
form of art and the story of a hustler. This is especially true when considering how Jay Z defines
hip hop, analyzes supporting evidence, and interprets rap lyrics. Moreover, Jay Z explains how
poetry hides beneath the surface of hip hop songs, making it a form of art. However, many
individuals are unaware of the poetry due to them focusing on the beat and punch lines of songs or

Hip hop paints pictures of poverty, violence, and thug life. Jay Z says, the story of the hustler
was the story hip hop was born to tell not its only story, but the story that found its voice in the

voice for people living in the ghetto. The hustler s story created a connection with a global
audience that defined the life of pure struggle (Jay Z, 18). For instance, Jay Z was raised in
Brooklyn s drug infested projects causing him to have a rough adolescence. He became a hustler
to afford material items and help his mother pay for the bills like most teenagers in his generation.
Jay Z explains how teenagers were wearing automatic weapons as if they were sneakers. Instead of
focusing on education, teenagers were worrying about adult responsibilities. Consequently, teenage

Deductive Reasoning
Deductive Reasoning In order to fully understand deductive reasoning, there are certain points to be
noted. First, what is the nature of deductive reasoning? Logical strength is defined as the property
of an argument whose premises, if true provide support for its conclusion. Deductive and inductive
arguments are also distinguished based on the point that logical strength is a matter of degree. This
distinction makes it necessary to understand the nature of deductive reasoning. Therefore, deductive
arguments are those whose premises guarantee the truth of the conclusion, and inductive arguments
are those whose premises make it reasonable to accept the conclusion though do not absolutely
guarantee its truth. Deductive reasoning is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Criminal Justice System Vs Preliminary Hearing
A case that results in a grand jury true bill does not have a preliminary hearing. Alongside that,
cases that are a result of a direct filing or information will have a preliminary hearing scheduled.
The hearing is then held before a lower court judge, and is shorter and less formal than the actual
trial. In all preliminary hearings, hearsay or unconfirmed testimonies are admissible, whereas it is
not admissible at during the trial except for very specific instances. A preliminary hearing is not
mandatory, and can be waived by the defendant, if he/she so chooses to. During the preliminary
hearing, the court has to look at the evidence obtained in the most favorable to the prosecution. The
prosecution can decide to call a witness up to the stand to testify, but most often the prosecution
does not do so. After the preliminary hearing the defense counsel can decide not to call any
witnesses as well, then they will present their case to the court. After both sides finish presenting

Dinosaurs: Destroyed by an Asteroid
After the extinction of dinosaurs, intelligent scientists have come together to study the devastating
event. The debate surrounding the death of the dinosaurs has intensified due to many recent
theories. Some people believed that an extremely devastating ice age froze the dinosaurs across the
world and brought massive extinction. Others believe that a volcanic eruption occurred due to

theories seem proven to be accurate and in alignment with historical events. Now many experts and

Iridium layer has been found in more than 100 locations around the globe, providing data that this
event was truly universal ( Dinosaurs. ). In addition, the measurements and evidence are accurate

identified a massive crater associated with materials of Iridium. Many pieces Iridium are buried
beneath sentiments of rock, many surrounding the coast of Yucatan. Debris and sediments are

As Long as there is a Profit to be Made, Discoveries will...
The question posed for this microtheme asks the difference between science and technology. This
has been a question I ve pondered in the past. My personal viewpoint is that as long as there is a
profit to be made, discoveries will be exploited. Science relies on technology to pursue science,
meaning more technologydeveloped to support further pursuit. The line is very blurred for me.
Are scientists merely messengers making discoveries, inadvertently helping others advance their
position by exploitation?
Most Americans consider Thomas Edison a great inventor and scientist, yet James Burke shows
disdain for the accomplishments attributed to Edison, apparently because of the method and money
made in the process. Does profit separate science and technology?
Benjamin Franklin never took out a patent, believing, in the 18th century, inventions were
something mankind should be as happy to share as they are to use from one another. He created
technology out of science and made no profit. Does that make him a pure scientist?
Andy Warhol was a similar mindset as Edison using apprentices and others to create his ideas,
such as his acclaimed silk screened image of Gold Marilyn Monroe . Does that mean he was a
technician, not an artist? Can one be both? He surely made a profit.
Galileo used collaboration to advance science in the 17th century, with written correspondence and
discussions about various topics that were yet to be confirmed, or revealed, such as the vacuum

Pauline Greig s Life And Life
Pauline Greig was born in 1934 to a Protestant family. She grew up with 5 siblings in Cygnet,
Tasmania and married Robert Greig in 1960 when she was 26. I was first introduced to Pauline
by my mum. In 2011, working as a nurse, she treated her husband Robert in hospital as he was
recovering from surgery. Pauline was staying with Robert in his recovery room when she noticed
the necklace my mum was wearing around her neck. It had the little infant Jesus on one side and
Mary on the other. They then discovered and connected with each other through our shared faith,
Catholicism. When we moved to our new house in Macgregor we began attending Mass at St
Johns in Kippax and we would say hello to them after mass whenever we saw them. We became

with a mix of open as well as closed questions, making sure that there was still a chance to expand
on the responses for closed questions if need be. I decided to ask generic questions as I was still
unfamiliar of Pauline s history when I was creating the questions. I made sure to structure the
questions chronologically, beginning with ones regarding her childhood and then leading up to
questions about life and spirituality in today s society. I did this in order to ensure the interview
flowed well and so that we weren t jumping back and forth from one period of time to another.

Analysis Of Saturday s Child And The Secret Life Of Children
The poem Saturday s Child and the book The Secret Life of Bees have many things in common.
In Saturday s Child Countee Cullen uses the personification of death and imagery to portray the
loss of innocence, which relates to Lily Owens in The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd.
Throughout the poem, the speaker uses the personification of death, which relates to Lily Owens
experience with death early on in her life. In Saturday s Child , Cullen describes Death cut the
strings that gave me life,/ and handed me to Sorrow (Cullen 17,18), which reveals that the author
was stripped of something important to them at a young age. Cullen describes the death of a family
member as Death ВЁcutting the strings that gave him lifeВЁ and saying that ... Show more content

The speaker describes, They swathed my limbs in a sackcloth gown/ on a night that was black
as tar (Cullen 7,8), which then causes the reader to imagine the scene in their mind. Cullen
describes a baby being swathed in a sackcloth gown and this happening when the night was as
black as tar . This imagery causes an image of what they interpret this scene to appear in their
mind, which further immerses the reader into the poem. Cullen has a vivid image of what this
scene looks like to himself, and the reader creating their own image of the same scene brings a
better understanding to what the author was attempting to show. While Lily is asleep in the
honey house, she has a vivid dream of her mother following Lily s trail of honey and when she
comes into view she is part roach. Lily explains, She is smiling, so pretty, but then I see she is
not a normal person. She has roach legs protruding through her clothes, sticking through the cage
of her ribs, down her torso, six of them, three on each side, (Kidd 174). Kidd creates a vivid and
detailed image of a woman with a beautiful smile but with the lower half of her body as a roach
using imagery. Kidd describes Lily s mother as following Lily s trail of honey, smiling, so pretty,
and She has roach legs protruding through her clothes. The imagery generates an image of the
woman as

The Importance Of The English Bill Of Rights Of 1689
Such as the Magna Carta, this had placed limits on the power of the British monarch. England s
Parliament emerged as a force that the king had to depend on to pay for wars and to finance the
royal government. Like the Parliament, the assemblies that developed in the Thirteen Colonies
controlled their colony s funds, and the assemblies had some control over colonial governors. The
English Bill of Rights of 1689 provided another important model for Americans and many thought
that the Constitution also needed a bill of rights. The thinkers and Framers also got many of their
ideas from the European writers of the Enlightenment. James Madison and other architects of the
Constitution were familiar with the work of John Locke and Baron de Montesquieu

Flash By Calvino
In the short story, The Flash , Italo Calvino explains how it is absurd for society to accept things
for the way they are. As a young adult I strive to become an individual within society; by creating
my own thoughts and taking responsibility for my own actions. However, Calvino highlights that
we are all conformed by society. We accept societal ways without the slightest contradictions: get
a job, get married, start a family, act normal, obey the law, yet there is no freedom, we are all
damned to this never ending cycle. The things I had once accepted suddenly made no sense.
Why do I follow the status quo ? Is there more to life than society s conformed corners? These
questions are explained in the text as a flash of clarity as we see the major flaws in society.... Show

Calvino s notable use of paradox is evident when the narrator first claims [he] did not understand
the [reasoning] for things or for people; it was all senseless, absurd. [And he] laughed and
contradicts himself at the end when the narrator returns to reality (Calvino 1). The mindless
acceptance of the way things are is similar to the setting portrayed in the blockbuster movie
iRobot , featuring Will Smith as Del Spooner, a technophobic detective. In the world of iRobot ,
robots are mere possessions that aid humans with their everyday chores. These robots have
superhuman strength and are programed to always obey and help humans to the best of their
ability. In the movie, robots are seen as gifts that exist for the common good of society. Although,
Del does not perceive robots as saints that aids lazy humans with their undesirable tasks, they are
senseless, cold, emotionless structures that are the creation of man s absurd idea that a mere piece
of metal can replace the beating, living heart of a

Unanswered Essay
Unanswered
In life, there is a set of questions that causes people to question their purpose in the world. These
questions were designed to be simply that; questions. They have no answer and once the answer
seems to become apparent, it changes into a defining moment, according to Jim Tilley. These
defining moments that were once questions are the things that document our lives and how far we
have come. Jim Tilley wrote the poem The Big Questions to talk about and parallel these things
with everyday life. The big questions are big only/ because they have never been answered (line 1
/2). Jim Tilley begins his poem The Big Questions, by posing a philosophical statement in which the
audience begins to ponder what these questions might be. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Some may say that it was by chance while others may say that it was fate. Tilley chose to end line
9 with the phrase can t because that is a phrase that constantly floats around the pessimistic mind. It
wrestles with the fact that there are always situations in which one feels as though they can t .
However, the answer to that question is clear to the bear who has determined that you are going to
be his lunch.
The grizzly bear is a metaphor for a problem encountered in life. The three options used to
rationalize what to do when encountering a bear also parallel to what to do in a tough situation.
When faced with a problem, everyone has a different rationalization to deal with it. The options
are a constant that can be applied to any circumstance in life: run away, confront it or sit aside and
wait. What we do in tough situations directly correlates to our response in previous life
experiences. In the past, these tough situations were big questions that made us wonder the typical
why did this have to happen to me? Tilley refers to these as defining moments.
These defining moments are the things that further our experiences and what help to shape us. So
this can be a defining moment, /but not a big question... (Line 20/21). Tilley seems to make a point
that the big questions will all ultimately turn into defining moments. As anyone would realize while

On Why Are More American Teenagers Than Ever Suffering...
Quan Thi
Reflection Paper #2 The New York Times article revealed that there s an increasing number of
teenagers suffering from severe anxiety as a result of several factors. Some of these factors include
the increasing standards to succeed in this society as well as the advancement of technologies in the
past decade. After reading Why Are More American Teenagers Than Ever Suffering From Severe
Anxiety? by the New York Times regarding the increasing prevalence of severe anxiety among
teenagers, I begin to question what have changed so much to cause this epidemic as most teenagers,
especially high school and college students, have experienced anxiety or depression to some
degree at some point in their lives. Anxiety is something that most people have on a daily basis
and in a small amount, it s a signal that encouraged people to take action and resolve the conflict
that has been bothering them. But now, many teenagers are diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder
and I believed the reason for this is the increasing standards that teenagers have to face. For
example, the growing requirements for getting admitted into a competitive college is a major
stressor for most high school students. In addition to academic, these students need to distinguish
themselves from their peers by being involved in extracurricular activities or volunteer if they want
any chance to get into a competitive college. Because of this, I think many students forced
themselves to be perfect in every

Live Theatre Analysis
In high school I was able to perform in two school plays and attended a few live theatre shows as
an adult; having the insight on both junctures permits me to express my experience and emotions
of live theatre. I do not see or feel the same connection when viewing a film as I do with live theatre.
Theatre is a relationship between the performers and a live audience. There is an invisible yet
tangible energy that exude throughout the theatre, reaching the actors and audience. Both the
performers and the audience bring their own energy, but once the two forms of energy meet up in
the same space and intertwine then become a radiate experience. The natural excitement of
anticipation and excitement of the audience can be intoxicating, they come with hope of being
entertained and if the audience is lucky ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the night of the show, one is filled with anticipation of seeing the play laced with a hint of
ambiguity because of not knowing just what to expect. Getting dressed and arriving at the theatre
brings about more enthusiasm; once the mixture of people with different cultures and expectations
is seated in the theatre one experience an ardor of emotions. The interaction with the crowd sounds
of low chatter and sight of the person s attire add to the excitement of being in a place that can
make the magic happen.
On the other hand, the performers bring their own set of anticipation and excitement to the opening
night. The actors are tasked with bringing an illusion to reality for the audience. Once the actors hit
the stage there must be a transformation that take place, now in real time they must become the
character they are portraying and be convincing. The actor must bring about a transformation of
emotions that draw from their own personal experiences, and dig to the depth of his or her very

Analysis Of Cosi Fan Tutte
Avtaran Jain Cosi Fan Tutte Review Many have heard the saying that art does not have a language
barrier. However, there are times when the expression above fails to hold true for a performance. It
in during these times, that the unison of the audience breaks, and a dichotomy forms. My recent
experience with the play, Cosi Fan Tutte was somewhat similar to the events described above.
Although Cosi Fan Tutte attempts to establish itself in the hearts of the crowd through its talented
and experienced cast, it ultimately fails due to its tediously repetitive song structure and narrow
intended audience. The adeptness and dexterity of an individual have always been fundamental
talents to look for when viewing a performance. These individuals are the one that help the event
advance to success. When it comes to the qualities mentioned above, the cast of Cosi Fan Tutte
definitely possess most. Because Cosi Fan Tutte is a performance written by Mozart, it comes as
no surprise that the level of singingand acting required is highly demanding even for veterans in
the industry. Yet, despite all these hurdles, the cast of the performance is able to captivate and
delight the audience through its outstanding vocal finesse and entertaining characterization.
Ferrando, played by Carlos Feliciano and Guglielmo, played by Eli Glick are the stars of the show,
displaying their level of musical acumen through songs such as Una bella serenata and E voi ridete
which require a vocal

conventions started laying down special rules governing the conduct of the negotiations between
the competent authorities and before long, the mutual agreement procedure had crystallised in the

Public Housing Assistance Programs
Ever since the New Deal, the Federal Government has been spending billions of dollars each year to
ensure that everyone has a roof over their head. Out of this effort eventually arose the Department
of Housing and Urban Development, which now administers three main public housing assistance
programs (Edson, 2011). Much literature providing an overview of housing vouchers distinguishes
between the different types of rental assistance, including project units, Section 8 project based
assistance, and Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers. It is important to distinguish between tenant
based assistance and rental based assistance (HUD.Gov, 2017). In his paper, Olson differentiated

To do so, he utilized data from nineteen nationally representative studies, such as the National
Center for Education Statistics and the Long Term Trend and Main National Assessment of
Educational Progress. Taking into account factors such as age and grade of students, as well as
the educational attainment of the parents, he provides differences in test scores between high
and low income children, concluding that the educational achievement gap has widened in
recent years (Reardon, 2011). To demonstrate this gap numerically for the state of Iowa, the
DailyHerald has compiled a working database on the test score differences, depending on the
individual grade of the child and income bracket of the child s family (Broderick, 2014).
Additionally, sociologists Geoffrey Wodtke and David Harding conducted a study to measure the
high school graduation rate of high poverty, versus low poverty children and found that the
chances of finishing high school are far lower for children whose families are in the lowest
income bracket than for more economically privileged children (Wodtke Elwert, 2011). Databases
from The College Board reveal that this gap in achievement also translates into SAT scores, and
later acceptance into college. Individual standardized test scores rise with the income of the student
s parents (College Board, 2013). A study conducted by the University of Pennsylvania went a step
further to examine the college graduation

Pet Wearables And Connected Device Technology
Abstract Every year circuit boards and sensors become smaller and more affordable for
entrepreneurs around the world to freely innovate new technologies. Although many of these new
technologies are designed to directly interact with humans, some people are adapting this
technology to address the needs of working canines. These new devices are then being modified to
meet the needs of the regular petdogowner. New devices for pet dogs cover everything from
identification, tracking, vital sign monitoring, video cameras and environmental temperature
fluctuations to algorithms that translate tail wags and eventually even brain waves into emotions
that can be relayed to the owner. Our own smartphones allow most of these innovations to connect
owners with their dogs wearables by the use of applications. As technology continues to advance,
we will continue to see it being used to help connect owners with their pet dogs. These technologies
help owners to have peace of mind and veterinarians have access to health and activity data that
would otherwise not be observable at routine examinations. Technology and Your Dog:
Pet Wearables and Connected Device Technology

Christian Petersen Analysis
Christian Petersen was an American sculptor and is noted for the large body of sculpture at Iowa
State University. Most of his techniques to make sculptures were done by using clay or plaster.
One of the processes he replicated the artwork was by pouring the plaster over the pattern that he
was trying to make, and then he shook the unit to let the plaster fills any small features.
Afterwards, he let the plaster sets and the pattern is ready to be removed. Although, the used
plaster cannot be reused, however, Petersen chose to use plaster to make sculptures are because it
is relatively cheap and it will also create an excellent surface finish. One of the examples that
Petersen made by using plaster is the Abraham Lincoln sculpturemodel. He

  • 2. Ted Bundy Research Paper Ted Bundy was born in Burlington, Vermont on November 24 1946. Ted was an illegitimate child, his mother was not married and she was in her early twenties which was socially looked down upon. Her mother and he then moved in with his mother s grandparents. Ted was then told a lie that her mother was her sister and the grandparents was his parents. In 1951, his mother married and had several children, which in that point everything looked normal. During his adolescent years he was teased in school, never really fit in school. It was also during this time that he was told the truth about the lies that he is an illegitimate child, his mother lying about being his sister and his parents are actually his grandparents. Up until he enrolled into University of Washington in 1966, he ran into trouble with the law but nothing very serious to be concerned about.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, when the couple were in talks of marriage he quickly cut all contact with everyone and went off the grid. In February of 1974 is when he abducted and killed his first victim, a 21 year old female college student. • 3. The Emotional Struggles Associated With Raising An... 1.The emotional struggles associated with raising an exceptional child are complex and innumerable. Many parents describe a pendulum of feelings that are both overwhelming and intense. Such emotions include shock, denial, grief, guilt, confusion, exhaustion, determination, frustration, acceptance, and love. Some parents have even expressed gratitude towards their exceptional child, stating that their child has taught them a new meaning of love and they feel that they ve become a better person for having gone through the experience of raising and supporting an exceptional child. It s impossible to fully comprehend these feelings without having been through them yourself, but, even so, your heart goes out to both these parents and their children, especially if you are the childs teacher. The two emotions I would like to discuss are frustration and determination. A frustrated parentmay be so thoroughly overwhelmed with everything going on in their life that they ve seemingly given up. Some of these parents have multiple children as well as jobs and other concerns. Although I m sure they would wish to give their exceptional child their complete and utter attention/concern that is not always physically possible. In a case like this, as a teacher, I would try my best to offer whatever support I could. I would gather resources, provide options, and offer advice on how to best support the child s academic needs. I would make myself available to the parent for open ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Piaget And Piaget Similarities The human brain has always been a subject of great interest to psychologists and researches. Over the years, many theorists have developed different models and approaches on how the mind works and what happens behind the scene when learning occurs. Scientifically speaking, learning theorists have been concerned about areas of psychologyof learning which emphasizes human cognition or intelligenceas a special endowment enabling man to form hypotheses and develop intellectually in other words cognitivism which is also known as cognitive development (Teachinglearningresources.pbworks.com, 2011). Therefore, cognitive development is concerned about how learning, problem solving and memory works along with how cultural differences affect the way we view our own academic achievements, language development, and much more (Feldman, 2010). Two famous influential theorists of cognitivism are Jean Piaget(1896 1980) and Jerome Bruner (1915 2016). They both consider how cognitive development takes place at different stages but their theories are also fundamentally different. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, they both considers that cognitive development takes place though stages with Piaget through 4 distinct stages and Bruner through 3 different modes. In their representations, they both acknowledge cognitive development from the children state with in mind their predisposition capacity to learn. Similarly, they both agreed that the child is a key contributor in the learning process with a great sense of curiosity and have an active participation in the cognitive growth. The use of visual images and symbols are equally important to both theories in the process of knowledge acquisition. Himanka Wickramaratne SOCI 13314GD Rory Sommers Psychopathology of Vince Li The death of greyhound passenger Tim Mclean was caused by the untreated mental illnesses (antisocial personality disorder and Schizophrenia) of Vince Li. The actions of Vince Li can be described by using a branch of psychology called psychopathology. Psychopathology is the study of mental illnesses in individuals. It uses scientific reasoning to help understand how a person s thoughts and emotions incorporate with their behaviour patterns. In the case of Vince Li, he had two mental illnesses called antisocial personality disorder and Schizophrenia that made him make a tragic choice in August 2008. Antisocial personality disorder addresses... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Family history of Antisocial personality disorder can increase the risk of the newborns being affected with the mental illness. For the environmental factors, if a child has been abused or neglected through childhood the child would have a risk of having antisocial personality disorder through to adulthood (Tuvblad and Beaver, 2014). As adulthood approaches, any jailtime, alcohol abuse or severe depression increase the risk of having antisocial personality disorder to a much higher extent. Research has been done to show that Antisocial personality disorder needs a much larger sensory input for normal brain function. Patients with antisocial personality disorder are known to have decreased pulse rates, and show less activity in the brain (Tuvblad and Beaver, 2014). The various studies of the brain suggest that the irregular brain function is a cause of antisocial behavior. The science behind the brain of a patient with antisocial personality disorder are the neurotransmitters called serotonin that is directly related with mood and social behaviour while dopamine is correlated with impulsive/aggressive behaviour (Baker, Bezdjian, and Raine, 2008). The temporal lobes and the prefrontal cortex aid in controlling the mood and the behavior of an individual. The poorly controlled brain behavior stems show an abnormal amount of serotonin and dopamine levels in the brain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Hip Hop Vs Jazz Music Essay What if someone would make a mash up of the two music genres, jazz and hip hop? Jazz music can date to the early 1900 s but there is no specified founder (www.jazzinamerica.org). Hip hop can also trace back to an approximate start date, but there is not just one creator (Errey 1997). Jazz and hip hop have many similarities along with their numerous differences. Jazzmusic and hip hop music are both genres of music that have long histories and have lots of similarities and differences, too. First of all, the historical timeline of jazz is very long and complicated, leading to no single founder of the genre. A thick horde of dark bodies frames into circular gatherings maybe five or six hundred people moving so as to the pulsations of the music (www.nytimes.com). This could be an African country or just about everywhere (www.nytimes.com). But, this is New Orleans, The Big Easy (www.nytimes.com). Crazy, right, how diverse this country is? Anyway, this is where some people believe jazz first started. However, this source claims, The city that was the birthplace of jazz was New Orleans...would... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One difference is that both genres use different instruments. Jazz uses many orchestral instruments, while hip hop, as stated previously, uses mostly computer generated sounds and beats. An example of this is comparing The Sound of Silence and Hotline Bling s instrumental use. The Sound of Silence uses a trumpet while Hotline Bling uses technologically edited sounds. Another difference is the genres birthplaces. Jazz was in the New Orleans area, while hip hop was more near New York City (Kumar 2011). The genres uses of improvisation are starkly different (Kumar 2011). Jazz music usually has one musician who goes off and does an improvised thing as the other musicians keep playing the melody, while in hip hop music, the melody doesn t usually keep playing while the person rapping ... • 7. Taylor Family Research Paper We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Christmas was always in my mind no matter what time of year it was. I discovered a couple months back that our close family friends, the Taylors, could not afford anything to get their children any Christmas presents. I had a prompting to share this detail with the rest of my family members and we acted upon this news. We decided to take this opportunity to serve our great family friends, which we owed so much to them for all that they have done for us. We decided to save our money and that we each would not get more than five Christmaspresents for ourselves. Instead, we would have our Christmas presents be contributed towards the family. That would be our Christmas present. To be able to give back and see how happy the Taylor family would be on Christmas day.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This list was very long, for they have fifteen members of their family. Preparing the list meant that the next step was shopping for the family. That also meant a lot of shopping for the Taylor family. Another act of service was shown when our other family friends, the Gilberts, donated two thousand dollars to help purchase gifts for the Taylor family. They are also close with the Taylors and wanted to help contribute to this Secret Santa act. As the list was finally finished, the shopping began. I got to travel to many stores with my mother as we searched for the needed items for the Taylors. I couldn t contain my excitement while we were shopping. I just had a joyful feeling as we shopped. It really brought the Christmas spirit and made me even more excited to hear about the Taylors Christmas. We collected and bought all the presents for the Taylors and our living room was filling up with the many gifts. That meant it was time for us to begin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Evolution Of Primate Intelligence Essay The evolution of primate intelligence. Intro and summary Inquisitiveness, probably one if the most important trait a human being exhibits. This characteristic has also extended to our quest to understand own past. One of the most fundamental reasons why we are interested in the other primates is to obtain a precise view of how our ancestor may have lived. Trying to get an insight into their environment, food, and social structure. Although there is no direct evidence to prove that we as human beings have descended from any modern type monkey or ape, our genealogy does indicate that we have gone through stages, in which we possibly evolved from a relatively medium sized creature with good binocular vision, hands with good dexterity the ability to climb trees. An evolutionary trend seen in primates involves the development of offspring both before and after birth and their assimilation into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another trait seen in primate evolution has been a more elaborate brain. In addition to brain size and gestation periods, the social organization also demonstrates and plays an important role in primate evolution due to its complexity and hierarchy. Brain evolution The fundamental explanation for the evolution of large relative brain size in early primates remains undetermined and disputed (Insel). In particular, the neocortex of many primates has undergone substantial expansion, and has reached its largest in humans (Rilling and Insel, 1999). The neocortex is generally associated with, cognitive memory, and higher order information processing. Emotions such as fear, happiness, jealousy and understanding the need for conflict resolution stem from this part of the brain. Although, many theories have been put forth to account for cerebral expansion in primates, Epiphenomenal and developmental models have interpreted brain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Sophocles Antigone, it could be argued that either Creon or Antigone is the tragic hero. I argue Creon is the tragic hero in this play. Antigone has the main character as Antigone the daughter of the famous Oedipus, who married his mother and killed his father. At the beginning of the play Oedipus has died and Antigones power hungry brothers have killed each other, Polynices being made as a traitor and left unburied, worthless. Antigone s sister, Ismene, is her only sibling left, though she is one to follow the rules. Antigone plans to bury her brother even though Creonhas forbid it, this is where the conflict begins. • 10. Essay on The Ontological Argument for the Existence of God The Ontological Argument for the Existence of God The ontological argument is an a priori argument. The arguments attempt to prove God s existence from the meaning of the word God. The ontological argument was introduced by Anselm of Canterbury in his book Proslogion. Anselm s classical argument was based on two principals and the two most involved in this is St Anselm of Canterbury as previously mentioned and Rene Descartes. The ontological argument argues that if you understand what it means to talk about God, you will see His existence is necessarily true. Anselm defined God as that than which nothing greater can be conceived , hence God must exist. Anselm also believed that even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If He did not exist, then you could still think of an even greater being (one just like God that you said did not exist, except this one would exist). Existence must be one of God s attributes because to remove it, you would still be able to fathom a greater God (one which does exist). The problem most have with this argument is that it seems to simply list existence among God s attributes, rather than show it. The argument appears to say whatever you can imagine should be true in reality. Descartes claimed God exists is true, if we know what it means to talk of God. Similarly, he maintained that once we know what a triangle is we know that it must have three sides. Like a triangle inherently must have three sides, so God inherently must exist. Objections to the ontological argument were first brought up by a monk who was a contemporary of Anselm named Gaunilo. He said that according to Anselm s line of reasoning, if he envisioned an island that is beautiful and sparkling and completely perfect, then it must exist. For an island that does exist would be more perfect than one that does not exist. Gaunilo said that we cannot simply define things into existence. We cannot show an island or God exists simply by analyzing that idea. A critique of Descartes comes from the philosopher David Hume who argued against the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Aviation Development With Jet Propulsion Projects For... Through the course of the Second World War, Germany partook in numerous courses of research and development of weapons systems and platforms that were believed that they could help win the war more quickly and later hopefully turn the tide of the war. Of these the more ambitious and advanced attempts without doubt were the projects dubbed as Germany s Wunderwaffen, or Wonder Weapons , by the nation s Propaganda network. Several of these projects proved instrumental to advancement of many people of the world after the war, be such for military or civilian development, and they ranged between the practical to outright insane in scope. Through the course of this paper I will present and analyze a variety of these Wunderwaffe projects from different areas of development and what effect they had during or after the war for technological development. The first topic that will be covered will be that of Aviation development with Jet propulsion projects for aircraft within the Luftwaffe. Second will be projects involving several munitions projects that Germany had undertaken during the course of the Second World War. Aviation Projects Prior to and through World War Two, Germany pursued numerous projects of advancement for its new fledgling Luftwaffe, one of such being the pursuit of Jet propulsion and how to apply them to designs. His organisation and leadership of the Bolshevik party transformed it. When Lenin died in January 1924 he had nominated Leon Trotsky as his chosen successor. Yet it was Joseph Stalin who was eventually to emerge as leader of the party. This was largely because Stalin was a clever and astute politician, who was seen as being a man of the people. He was able to manoeuvre himself into a position of power through his role as General Secretary of the Communist Party. Once in power, he exerted an iron grip on the USSR. Political Politics Of The United States Essay A diverse society requires a pluralistic political structure in order to enfranchise citizens and allow the broadest scope of opinions to be heard. The United States has a rich history filled with specific examples of how an individual s voice carries enough weight to make both a difference. However, a person s ability to make a political impact does not necessitate eloquence and or individual intrepidity. Rather, our Founding Fathers carefully crafted a democratic system in which the voices of every individual were given significance and influence through their right to vote in elections. Unfortunately, political elections are not as idealistic as our fore fathers may have intended. In recent years, political campaigns in the United States have become an increasingly distasteful process in recent years, specifically in regard to the way in which they are funded. Political campaigns are regularly fuel by greed, power and a shady procurement of financial support. This corruption promotes inequitable campaign procedures, and almost never results in a fair and unbiased candidate victory. In recognition of this exploitation of power, steps have been taken by federal and state legislatures to regulate rampant unethical funding in political elections. In response to these efforts, two distinct sides have emerged. Proponents of campaign finance limits argue that wealthy donors and corporations hold too much sway in elections and as a result, corrupt campaigns. Those favoring less ... • 24. A Popular Model Designed By Bruce W. Tuckman So what are genres? When most people are asked this question they will reply with something like science fiction, horror, mystery, or romance. While these are not fundamentally wrong answers, those with such responses do not understand the full breadth of what genres truly are. According to the dictionary, a genre is a class or category of artistic endeavor having a particular form, content, technique, or the like (Genre). Still though this does not capture the full breadth of what a genre really is. To explain how genres form, dynamically change, and serve their purposes we must first take a step back and look at some other fundamental concepts. A popular model designed by Bruce W. Tuckman suggests that all groups experience five phases: forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning (Gulati 439 440). At our cores, humans seek to be accepted and acknowledged by others. We seek to form social hierarchies to find meaning the areas we are passionate about. This part of human nature is nothing new, it is something programmed deep into our genes for millennia. It happens before our eyes every day; sports fans meet in stadiums, video game fans meet at conventions, artists meet at exhibitions, and so on. People of similar interest meet, one way or another, and are drawn together by their passion. Some groups remain small friend circles, while others may grow vastly to be composed of millions of members. These vast communities, known as discourse communities, ... • 26. The Issue Of A Child s Life On My Intersex Child In society today, people are always told what gender to be. For example, if a masculine man wants to wear a dress, he will be shunned from society because dresses are for girls therefore he shouldn t be wearing one. Now for an intersex baby , the doctors practically decide for the child what sex they want the baby to be. Doctors will make up lies and tell the parents that it is necessary for to have surgery because of the baby s health but that s a huge fallacy. If given the opportunity to choose the genderon my intersex child, I would oppose toward the surgery of modifying his or her sex. I may not be conforming with the social norm, but I also strongly believe that my child should make the choice of what gender they want to be when they are older. Intersex babies nowadays are being decided what sex they will be according to what the doctor prefers. Parents are being told that their babies have to have surgery because if not, then they may become sick in the long run. This is absolutely not true. That so called sickness that doctors refer to is just a matter of being able to fit into society. For example, in Dueling Dualisms by Fausto sterling, she argues that the issue is that because one is born a certain sex that that s the gender role they are suppose to play in society. She writes that what is at issue is the embodied nature of identities and experience. Experience is not individual and fixed, but irredeemably social and processual. With this being said, as a ... Along with Jay Z s personal narrative, he provides an explanation for his song lyrics to educate readers about hip hop s importance, his life, and national issues. Thus, he creates several arguments about hip hop s purpose in the music industry. Two of Jay Z s main arguments consisted of hip hop being a form of art and the story of a hustler. This is especially true when considering how Jay Z defines hip hop, analyzes supporting evidence, and interprets rap lyrics. Moreover, Jay Z explains how poetry hides beneath the surface of hip hop songs, making it a form of art. However, many individuals are unaware of the poetry due to them focusing on the beat and punch lines of songs or quickly labeling rap as provocative rather than hearing the message behind the lyrics. This shows how hip hop became the voice for people living in the ghetto. The hustler s story created a connection with a global audience that defined the life of pure struggle (Jay Z, 18). For instance, Jay Z was raised in Brooklyn s drug infested projects causing him to have a rough adolescence. He became a hustler to afford material items and help his mother pay for the bills like most teenagers in his generation. • 33. Deductive Reasoning Deductive Reasoning In order to fully understand deductive reasoning, there are certain points to be noted. First, what is the nature of deductive reasoning? Logical strength is defined as the property of an argument whose premises, if true provide support for its conclusion. Deductive and inductive arguments are also distinguished based on the point that logical strength is a matter of degree. This distinction makes it necessary to understand the nature of deductive reasoning. Therefore, deductive arguments are those whose premises guarantee the truth of the conclusion, and inductive arguments are those whose premises make it reasonable to accept the conclusion though do not absolutely guarantee its truth. Negation the statement p is false is true when the component statement is false and false when the component statement is true 2.Manny Pacquiao is the world s featherweight champion and he has not been defeated so far. Conjunction В– true if and only if both statements are true and false it both is false or either one is false 3.Either he stole it or somebody else stole it. • 41. As Long as there is a Profit to be Made, Discoveries will... The question posed for this microtheme asks the difference between science and technology. This has been a question I ve pondered in the past. My personal viewpoint is that as long as there is a profit to be made, discoveries will be exploited. Science relies on technology to pursue science, meaning more technologydeveloped to support further pursuit. The line is very blurred for me. Are scientists merely messengers making discoveries, inadvertently helping others advance their position by exploitation? Most Americans consider Thomas Edison a great inventor and scientist, yet James Burke shows disdain for the accomplishments attributed to Edison, apparently because of the method and money made in the process. Does profit separate science and technology? Benjamin Franklin never took out a patent, believing, in the 18th century, inventions were something mankind should be as happy to share as they are to use from one another. He created technology out of science and made no profit. Does that make him a pure scientist? Andy Warhol was a similar mindset as Edison using apprentices and others to create his ideas, such as his acclaimed silk screened image of Gold Marilyn Monroe . Does that mean he was a technician, not an artist? Can one be both? He surely made a profit. Galileo used collaboration to advance science in the 17th century, with written correspondence and discussions about various topics that were yet to be confirmed, or revealed, such as the vacuum ... However, Calvino highlights that we are all conformed by society. We accept societal ways without the slightest contradictions: get a job, get married, start a family, act normal, obey the law, yet there is no freedom, we are all damned to this never ending cycle. The things I had once accepted suddenly made no sense. Why do I follow the status quo ? Is there more to life than society s conformed corners? These defining moments that were once questions are the things that document our lives and how far we have come. Jim Tilley wrote the poem The Big Questions to talk about and parallel these things with everyday life. The big questions are big only/ because they have never been answered (line 1 /2). However, the answer to that question is clear to the bear who has determined that you are going to be his lunch. The grizzly bear is a metaphor for a problem encountered in life. The three options used to rationalize what to do when encountering a bear also parallel to what to do in a tough situation. When faced with a problem, everyone has a different rationalization to deal with it. The options are a constant that can be applied to any circumstance in life: run away, confront it or sit aside and wait. Quan Thi Reflection Paper #2 The New York Times article revealed that there s an increasing number of teenagers suffering from severe anxiety as a result of several factors. Some of these factors include the increasing standards to succeed in this society as well as the advancement of technologies in the past decade. After reading Why Are More American Teenagers Than Ever Suffering From Severe Anxiety? by the New York Times regarding the increasing prevalence of severe anxiety among teenagers, I begin to question what have changed so much to cause this epidemic as most teenagers, especially high school and college students, have experienced anxiety or depression to some degree at some point in their lives. Anxiety is something that most people have on a daily basis and in a small amount, it s a signal that encouraged people to take action and resolve the conflict that has been bothering them. But now, many teenagers are diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder and I believed the reason for this is the increasing standards that teenagers have to face. My recent experience with the play, Cosi Fan Tutte was somewhat similar to the events described above. Taking into account factors such as age and grade of students, as well as the educational attainment of the parents, he provides differences in test scores between high and low income children, concluding that the educational achievement gap has widened in recent years (Reardon, 2011). To demonstrate this gap numerically for the state of Iowa, the DailyHerald has compiled a working database on the test score differences, depending on the individual grade of the child and income bracket of the child s family (Broderick, 2014). Additionally, sociologists Geoffrey Wodtke and David Harding conducted a study to measure the high school graduation rate of high poverty, versus low poverty children and found that the chances of finishing high school are far lower for children whose families are in the lowest income bracket than for more economically privileged children (Wodtke Elwert, 2011). Databases from The College Board reveal that this gap in achievement also translates into SAT scores, and later acceptance into college. Individual standardized test scores rise with the income of the student s parents (College Board, 2013). A study conducted by the University of Pennsylvania went a step further to examine the college graduation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 54. Pet Wearables And Connected Device Technology Abstract Every year circuit boards and sensors become smaller and more affordable for entrepreneurs around the world to freely innovate new technologies. Although many of these new technologies are designed to directly interact with humans, some people are adapting this technology to address the needs of working canines. These new devices are then being modified to meet the needs of the regular petdogowner. New devices for pet dogs cover everything from identification, tracking, vital sign monitoring, video cameras and environmental temperature fluctuations to algorithms that translate tail wags and eventually even brain waves into emotions that can be relayed to the owner. Our own smartphones allow most of these innovations to connect owners with their dogs wearables by the use of applications. As technology continues to advance, we will continue to see it being used to help connect owners with their pet dogs. These technologies help owners to have peace of mind and veterinarians have access to health and activity data that would otherwise not be observable at routine examinations. Technology and Your Dog: Pet Wearables and Connected Device Technology Introduction The purpose of this research is to provide awareness for upcoming technologies as they pertain to dogs. The use of computers, smartphones and applications are a part of everyday lives in first world countries. As technology becomes smaller and more affordable, some gadgets that were originally ... • 55. Christian Petersen Analysis Christian Petersen was an American sculptor and is noted for the large body of sculpture at Iowa State University. Most of his techniques to make sculptures were done by using clay or plaster. One of the processes he replicated the artwork was by pouring the plaster over the pattern that he was trying to make, and then he shook the unit to let the plaster fills any small features. Afterwards, he let the plaster sets and the pattern is ready to be removed. Although, the used plaster cannot be reused, however, Petersen chose to use plaster to make sculptures are because it is relatively cheap and it will also create an excellent surface finish. One of the examples that Petersen made by using plaster is the Abraham Lincoln sculpturemodel. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
