Focus software with its Focus A B C is the current market leader in the spreadsheet market. Focus
Software, being the first mover with its intuitive menu system with functionality like macros had
the largest market share with only one flaw, of printing graphs. Discount Software, with its VIP
Scheduler had the same menu system to ease the user in making the transition to its software
whereas Cinco, a Forward Software product, gave the users the options of either using its own menu
system or a Focus style menu system with all the functionalities like and inbuilt graph printing

considering the impact of fees charged by the law research firm, the cost of survey should not be

The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin
The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin is a criticism of today s capitalism by investigating what
society structure would be best for human society. Le Guin uses the two models of capitalism
and communism to be compared and contrasted against one another to determine which would
function better and how to achieve such success. In order to depict what a replacement structure
would look like; Le Guin creates two worlds to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of
influence that each of these models have not only on their society, but on Shevek, the main
character. The planet of Urras is a wealthy society, but all of this money is in the hands of the
elites at the expense of those in the lower, working class. Their power continues to be protected
by state figures as they work hand in hand adjusting society structures to benefit themselves and
not every other citizen left into poverty. The moon of Urras is Anarres which is a stateless
society that is continuously stagnant and has been in such a position for several decades.
Although Anarres is described as the better world out of the two, the subtitle of the novel An
Ambiguous Utopia indicates that there are some downfalls to this seemingly perfect society. This
is a world of devastation with majority of their citizens in poverty and forced to work in jobs that
they are not suited for and ultimately hate. The working class is a necessity for this planet to be
sustained despite their bleak living conditions and weaknesses. Its

Application For Warehouse Allotment And Delivery Note...
Our project Web Application For Warehouse Allotment And Delivery Note Management , is
developed for warehouse management . They partition the warehouse , creating and spliting the
delivery note handling the opening and closing of the stock and also advance booking of the
warehouse is possible. Existing system: Warehouse is used to store lumsum or the excess
amount of goods . They are very useful for the manufactures , importers , expoters , wholesalers
and others who all need to store the goods and transfer or sell them to other people or durning
when the item is needed . The excess item or goods can be stored and it can be again used when
it is needed or when the item runs out in the market. All system which are currently are of manual
based procedures. The total area of the warehouse have to be measured manually , also if the
warehoue have to be partioned then even that has to be done manually . All the functionalities of
the current system are to be stored in a register file, maintaining those data manually and fetching
the data become more time consuming and very difficult task. In the existing system there is no
software to predict the total area of the warehouse and any method to calculate the total space
needed for storing the item in the warehouse . without knowing the total area or the size of the
warehouse , it becomes a problem for the clients to store their goods . Like if the amount of items

Family Guy Is An American Sitcom
Texas Longhorns football fans often use a specific hand gesture when rooting for their team; by
holding up the fore and pinkie fingers while keeping the middle and ring fingers down, using the
thumb to hold the middle and ring fingers in position, they make bull horns. However, if a
Longhorns fan were to make this same gesture in Spain, it would be an offensive gesture that
means to have sex with someone else s wife. All people, and even animals, uses communicationto
transmit messages. However, many factors can warp or change what the sender is trying to
communicate. The Texas fan intended to use the hand gesture as a positive message in support of a
sports team, but due to the difference in cultural identity, the receiver interpreted it as something
very different. Cultural identity, along with stereotyping, language and nonverbal cues, plays a
large role in affecting communication between individuals and can be seen anywhere from
conversations between friends, to business exchanges, to sitcoms. Family Guy is an American
sitcom that uses many concepts of communication to transmit humorous messages to audiences.
The cartoon is about a white suburbian family named the Griffins who live in Quahog, Rhode
Island, and often uses vulgar language and slapstick humor to entertain the audience. The main
character, Peter, and his wife Lois have three children, Meg, Chris and Stewie, and a dog named
Brian. In this episode, Stewie and Brian travel back in time to the Nazi invasion of

Question 3
The Standard Model of particle physics is a theory concerning the electromagnetic, weak and
strong forces, as well as classifying all the subatomic particles known. It was developed as a
collaborative effort of scientists around the world during the latter half of the 20th century. Because
of its success in explaining wide variety of experimental results, the Standard Model is often
referred to as a theory of almost everything . Although the Standard Model is quite consistent, it
does not address some profound questions about the nature of the universe and it does leave some
phenomena unexplained. One of these phenomena that the Standard Model doesn t explain is

The Paradox Of Sustainable Development
The Paradox of Sustainable Development in Southern Bahia
While driving through the Atlantic Forest in Bahia, everywhere one looked it was green. I could
not get over how much green there was. Unfortunately, only 7% of the original forest here remains
today (Hance). The rapid growth of the cocoa economy combined with unsustainable practices led
to this rapid decline. Agriculture still plays a major role in this region and will continue to impact
the Atlantic Forest ecosystem unless more sustainable measures are put into place. There are
numerous groups responsible for the direction of development in this region; however, a special
emphasis needs to be placed on the role of social divisions and inequality. Presently and into the
future, social classes will have an important role in the success or failure of sustainable development
in the Atlantic Forest region. To comprehend why, sustainable development must be defined and
then evaluated in the context of agriculture and land distribution.
In order to understand how social classes can affect sustainable development, the term sustainable
development must first be defined. The most widely accepted definition was created by the United
Nations World Commission on Environment and Development in 1987. This commission, also
known as the Brundtland Commission, focused on combining two concepts that previously were
seen as contradictory ideas: the environment and development. In their report, Our Common Future,
they concluded that

Essay about Madame Bovary vs. the Awakening
Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert and The Awakening by Kate Chopin both show the life of a
woman in a half dreamy stupor, overzealously running around looking for something but not
knowing what it is they are looking for. They feel immensely dissatisfied with the lives they are
stuck with and find suicide to be the only alternative. The two books, Madame Bovary, written in
1857 and The Awakening, written in 1899, both have the theme of confinement and free will, yet
differ vastly with respect to the yearnings of the main characters. In addition, Edna and Emma, the
protagonists of Madame Bovary and The Awakening respectively, are faced with a conflict between
external oppression and their own free will, which eventually leads them to take... Show more

The model she tries to emulate, of which her inability to do so also leads to her suicide, is one
filled with exuberant romanticism. Her inveterate romanticisms can be traced back to her
childhood. Emma was put in a convent when she was a little girl. Inside the convent, she began
to embrace romance novels, which filled her mind with thoughts of sophistication, sensuality,
passion, love, lust, and other romantic thoughts. For example, she read The Genius of
Christianity in the convent. How intently she listened, the first few times, to the sonorous
lamentations of that romantic melancholy expressing itself again and again in all the echoes of
this world and the next! (Flaubert 31). The reason for this love of novels can be associated with
her yearning to leave the convent. Romanticism was her escape from the cold walls of the
convent. Instead of following mass, she look at the blue bordered religious pictures in her book;
she loved the sick sheep, the Sacred Heart pierced by sharp arrows, and poor Jesus stumbling and
falling beneath his cross. (Flaubret 30). Religious services are a major part in a convent; yet,
Emma did not follow mass like she was supposed to. She instead daydreamed and, in a sense,
mentally left the convent. Her daydreaming was an attempt to leave the restrictions of the convent.

The Lion King And Hamlet Comparison Essay
The circumstances from the film The Lion King are similar to that of Shakespeare s play entitled
Hamlet. Creators of Walt Disney s The Lion King were inspired by the theme of conflict between
Claudius and his nephew Hamlet. Simba and his uncle Scar represent a famous struggle for power.
The connections between The Lion Kingand Hamletdisplayed a recurring and timeless event
throughout the centuries. The influences of claudias brother s power, money, and life make
Claudias angry. He is just like a villain trying to get what he wants, but cant obtain the throne.

Laertes doesn t know why Hamlet was not charged with any crimes because of this. Although
Hamlet wanted to kill Claudias to get revenge for his father s death, king Hamlet. Laerters and
Claudias work together on a plot to kill Hamlet. Claudias tells Polonius to spy on Hamlet.
During this affair Hamlet acts rough with his mother Ophelia. She then cries out for help and so
does Polonius. Hamlet mistakes Poliniuses voice Claudiases and kills him. Essentially, what
Claudias is doing is putting people like Polonius in bad positions so that his son Laertes gets
mad and wants to kill Hamlet. Since Polonius was Laertes father he now wants revenge from
Hamlet. Showing love to Laertes, Claudias arranges a fencing match between the two. The goal
of this fight is to make it seem that Hamlets death was an accident. This shows Claudiases
struggle for power because this will give Claudias the power he wants in the throne. This quote
states, In the play, Hamlet is introduced as a troubled man in deep depression. He was mourning
the death of his beloved father and his mother s marriage to his uncle. In Act 1 Scene 2 Claudius
gives Hamlet a speech to try and get him to stop bringing up his father, probably fearing that the
more the late King was talked about, or remembered, the more likely people were to look into his
death. (Bevington,

Water Advantages And Disadvantages
Water cooling is a method of heat removal from components and industrial equipment. As opposed
to air cooling, water is used as the heat conductor. Water cooling is commonly used for cooling
automobile internal combustion engines and large industrial facilities such as steam electric power
plants, hydroelectric generators, petroleum refineries and chemical plants.[1] Other uses include
cooling the barrels of machine guns, cooling of lubricant oil in pumps; for cooling purposes in heat
exchangers; cooling products from tanks or columns, and recently, cooling of various major
components inside high end personal computers. The main mechanism for water coolingis
convective heat transfer.[citation needed]

Nora s Transformation Essay
Throughout the dramatic play titled A Doll House , Henrik Ibsen s creation of the character Nora
changes immensely from the beginning to the end of the work. Some people may argue and
question the intentions of Nora, and describe her as a despicable and selfish woman; however, I
see her as a courageous and selfless woman, who longs to be treated as an equal to men. Nora s
sacrifice for her husband at the beginning unravels throughout the entirety of the play, and reveals
a boundless transformation of Nora into strong woman, who thrives off of the idea of becoming an
equal, self sufficient lady as she makes the brave decision to leave her familyto better herself. In
1879 when this drama was written, the duties of a woman rested solely on... Show more content on

Safak explains this deeper by saying, Nora demonstrates her strength in the last act of the play and
she distinguishes herself from the other members of her gender, who follow a mob mentality in the
general frame of the traditional woman perception (Safak 144). Nora did something for herself
that would have been unspeakable in her time of living during 1879. Women were supposed to
be dependent on a man for safety, security, and money, which Nora relied heavily on in the
beginning of the play. Now, she ventures out of the normal comfort zone of ladies and states,
No, that s exactly it. You don t understand me. And I ve never understood you either until tonight.
No, don t interrupt. You can just listen to what I have to say. We re closing out accounts,
Torvald (Isben 866). This bold decision to move on with her life, without the help of a man, is
respectable and courageous of Nora. From the beginning to the end of the play, Nora expresses
reliance on others to self reliance. She became a self sufficient woman, which she had been
practicing with throughout the play while she worked tirelessly to pay back the loan taken out for
Torvald. Perhaps she panned her departure from the opening of the play because she knew what the
outcome would be. At last, she freed herself from the caged Doll House and became a strong,

What Did Jay Learn From The Great Gatsby
In the book, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald the readers as well as the characters learn
numerous lessons, mainly Nick Carraway s wealthy mysterious neighbor, Jay Gatsby. Gatsby grew
up a poor man and wanted to do everything he possibly could to change his way of living. He is a
character that experiences a countless number of dilemmas, which changes him on his search for
his true identity.
Throughout the story we learn the truth about the real Jay Gatsby. At the start of the book all he
wanted was Daisy, the love of his life; however he had to leave her behind when he went to fight
in WW1 (Fitzgerald 153). While he was gone her love for him faded and she found and married
a man named Tom, whom which she had a kid with. After the war Gatsby returned back and had
only one thing he wanted to do, get Daisy back. Every single thing that he did, he did with the

loves both men just makes Gatsby strive to win her over even more and he was doing just that.
The two were very flirtatious one night in front of Tom, which infuriated him and resulted in his
demand that the two go home. The two do as they are told and Daisy drives home in Gatsby s

Gerald A. Sandusky Case Summary
When a case comes to the court that involves children or cases of child abuse, especially sexual
abuse. It becomes a tug of war debate between those that support harsher punishments to deter such
a horrendous crime as sexually abusing children, and those that support the idea that it is a illness
that requires medical treatment on the biological or psychological level. Then there is also the call
for how ethical it is to punish rather than treat such criminals.
In regards to the Gerald A. Sandusky case, which began in June 11th 2012 and ended on October
9th 2012. We are presented with a case where an individual was given unlimited access to young
boys of all ages, some from poor and underprivileged backgrounds. Of the 52 charges Mr. Sandusky
received, 4 charges were initially dropped, leaving 48. On June 22, 2012, Sandusky was
convicted of 45 counts of sexual abuse. Sandusky was sentenced on October 9, 2012, to a
minimum of 30 years and a maximum of 60 years in prison (Klein, Tolson, ... Show more content

Sandusky s case his actions of grooming, planning, using threats etc, show him to be a man who
has understanding of his actions and crimes, where others who put less thought and are much more
rash do not, tho neither criminal is absolved based on how well they hid their crimes. Sexual abuse
of a child with any method is a horrendous crime.
Is it ethical then to punish people who commit sexual abuse against children? Or should our
approach be treatment not punishment? This is an age old debate, while there have been attempts
to treat the disease of pedophilia, there are exceptions to this treatment whom despite it do reoffend.
Counseling, monitoring, medicating, and even chemical castration are some ways our society has
developed to treat the biological and psychological side of the argument

Eve s Impact on Adam
The Diaries of Adam and Eve are a Mark Twain satirical retelling of the bible s Adam and Eve.
Twain s Diary entry style cleverly represents how differently, both the characters react and develop
after meeting for the first time. Adam feels that Eve s introduction worsens his quality of life
because he feels invaded and he longs for the comfort of his own solitude whereas, Eve is
interested in Adam and doesn t like the feeling of solitude. As the diary entries progress it is Eve
who takes the first steps to make the relationship work because unlike Adam, she can t deal with

Even though the situation seems hopeless, Eve is persistent and she believes that Adam would
eventually get lonely and seek her out. She thinks this way because that is what she feels when
she is lonely. Adam eventually allows Eve be a constant companion and accepts Eve s insistence
in giving everything a name because he acknowledges that she is trying to be useful to him.
Adam starts to use the word we instead of I because Eve has been using it meaning that although
he doesn t particularly like her, he is still being influenced by her. Despite her discovery of fire,
Adam is still unappreciative of her findings because he still sees no practical use for any of it
even though Eve notices that the fire cooked the apples and made them taste better. Adam
believes he has authority over Eve and it is evident when Eve tries to stop his dangerous
adventures with the waterfall. Instead of listening to reason Adam ignores the scolding and
continues his dangerous practice and Eve becomes resentful. In Adam s extract he finds that

Virtual Personal Assistants
With more resources being poured into the development and advancement of Artificial Intelligence

revolutionising the interaction paradigms between users and the internet. The result opens up new
possibilities for the users of next generation to gather data and communicate via new portals of the

Where The Red Fern Grows Analysis
What does a ten year old have to look forward to in the fifth grade? Honestly, nothing much.
Learning to drive and getting to stay out late does not become a way of life for, at least, another
six years. In the days of learning about reciprocals and chloroplast I found myself looking
forward to the thirty minutes of story time after recess the most. At that age, it was the sole
activity that could hold my attention for any given time. Excited and attentive, we would all
gather around Ms. Powell s old, wooden rocker and listen to story after story. In the fifth grade
books became more than just stories; I fell in love with reading for pleasure. It has been nearly a

I am thankful for Ms.Powell and the stories she would read after recess. Nothing has stuck with me

been that way ever since. Word count:

Quotes Becoming Famous
A collection of one or more sentences have the ability to cement the reputation of a figure in
history. While that may seem daunting, it is simply true. From ancient to modern times, the most
influential historical figures earned their place because of their words. The reason we talk is in
order to be heard. No matter the ridiculousness of what we say, we do not get the choice on
whether those words remain in the memory of individuals. Quotes become famous because
someone took the time to look at them and decide that these words deserve to be heard. Whether
these words appear on a national monument or in the memory of your closest friend, they have the
ability to be memorable. As an avid reader, the most memorable quotes I come across are

Jeff Feiertag, Zane L. Berge, (2008) Training Generation N: how educators should approach the Net
Generation , Education + Training, Vol. 50 Iss: 6, pp.457 464 The authors of this article were
focusing on the generational differences between the generations now and previous generations.
The authors explain that they think that the graduates today are as technologically advanced as
they should be. They believe the answer is adult learning theory and they would try to use this
method to avoid using technology. Berge and Feiertag also state that this generation is so dependent
on technology that without it, we would be lost. Generation N is narrowly focused on the United

It is important to enhance our understanding in adulthood learning because not everyone was born
into the digital universe. Also, the authors talk about learning in the classrooms being relatively
different than it was before, some teachers don t use the classroom at all and lecture online.
Article also points around the Internet as a whole being some sort of teacher, Google for example.
Google spits out about any kind of information that you may need. These authors also go on to
state that older generations aren t really that worried about the advance in technology and that they
are more focused on the news and literature than the internet boom . But that the televisions are
aiming towards trying to get their viewers more involved in the internet. I don t think that
classrooms will become completely technology dependent and I feel like that is what the authors
are trying to hint at. I do think that our generation has become dependent on technology but I
disagree that everyone has to learn it. I think that it is important that adults learn this new way of
living in a sense, but I do not believe that it should be a necessity. The authors also say that society
as a whole is turning into technology, I disagree. Although technology has become almost the basis
of everything (the reading mentioned banks), there is still the old school way of doing things and

Multiple Characters In Anna Karenina By Lev Tolstoy
In Anna Karenina, Lev Tolstoy describes multiple characters in depth and gives the readers the
opportunity to create and change their opinions about most of them as the plot develops. The
novel begins with a rather striking quote, taken from Romans 12:19: Vengeance is mine, I will
repay (Tolstoy XXV). This sentence s meaning in it s biblical context and full length, is that it is
not up to people to punish others for their wrong doings, but that God will eventually take
revenge and repay them, for it is his right and duty to do so. Focusing on the meaning of this
excerpt, I believe that it is connected to the outcomes of Anna and Vronsky s affair, but also to
that of the life of Dolly Oblonskaya and her husband, as well as other characters . In this paper I
will support my interpretation of the reasons why I believe that despite the fact that Anna Karenina
appears to suffer the consequences of her loveaffair with Alexei Vronsky because she is a woman
more than her brother Stepan Oblonsky, the faith that the author assigns to her with allusions since
the beginning of the book, is connected to the fact that cheating is fundamentally wrong according
to Tolstoy s perspective, and that her punishment is a consequence of the above mentioned
quotation. To sustain my understanding of this theme I will make a comparison between Anna and
some of the other main characters who are involved in a romantic relationship or, as in Dolly s
case, stuck in an unhappy marriage.

Executive Summary Eagle Motors Ltd is a well established Swedish Car Manufacturing Company
trying to set up their firm in Australia. In order to compete successfully in the car industry in
Australia, Eagle Motors Ltd needs to conduct an analysis of the industry context in which they
would like to operate. Using the porters five forces model, this provides a detailed analysis of the
competitive nature of the Australian car industry and also it suggests an appropriate competitive
strategy for Eagle Motors to gain a sustainable competitive advantage. Eagle Motors Ltd is planning

High fixed costs: This result in an economy of scales effect that increases rivalry. High exit
barriers: High exiting barriers in the car industry place a high cost of abandoning products,
hence firms compete intensely not to loose out, like Mitsubishi. Industry shakeout: A growing
market and high profits induces new firms like Eagle Motors to enter market and increase
production which again increases competition and rivalry. Threat of Substitutes: In porter s
theory, substitutes refer to products in other industries, not different types of the product. A
substitute exists when a products demand is affected by a change in the price of the substitute
product. For Eagle motors the price elasticity for cars is affected by substitute products such as
public transport, motorcycles and bicycles for example. If more of these substitutes become
available, the demand for cars becomes more elastic since customers have more alternatives. A
close substitute makes it difficult for a company like Eagle motors to raise prices. In Australia
now the use of public transport and other forms of transport like bicycles have increased largely
because of the rise in petrol prices. In an already competitive market for cars, Eagle Motors needs
to be aware of the increasing petrol prices, and the tendency for consumers to switch to lower cost
substitutes like public

The Reign Of King David
The reign of King David is divided into two parts: his reign over Judah and his reign over all of
Israel. During King David s reign, two sides of him are revealed, his successful side as a leader and
his bitter, sinful side. King David can be viewed and understood as a great man, but also a terrible
man. It is difficult to draw a clear conclusion about his character. This essay delves into both the
positive and negative sides of David, to gain a good understanding of who he was as a king and a
man.
We begin by considering how David is described outside his reign. He could be described as a man
with a warm heart, a helping hand, a simple trust, who was courageous and fearless, and who had
a deep regard for his country and his God. David did not have as much education as some of the
other characters of the Old Testament; however, he had a great love for the law of the Lord (2
Sam. 7:18 29). He was a brave warrior with a warm simple, loving nature (2 Sam. 17:10).
Theologian William Blaikie wrote, men feel instinctively that the desire of his heart and the aim of
his life is to make people prosperously and happy .
David had one great friend growing up: Jonathan. When reviewing the similarities between David
and Jonathan, it is no wonder that their souls are tied to each other in the Lord. It is also not
surprising that they respected and loved each other because of their faith in God (1 Sam. 18:1 3).
When Jonathan found out that his father was trying to kill David, he knew

When carbon fibers are reinforced with polypropylene composites they provide high impact

Habermas Theory Of The Public Sphere
Having examined and defined mass media and the contemporary democracy it is important
however to consider Habermas theory of the public sphere.
Habermas defines the public sphere as a realm of our social life in which something approaching
public opinion can be formed. Access is guaranteed to all citizens (1974, p.49). It is Habermas
theory that the public sphere helps to facilitate the rational communication of public affairs
independently from the government and state.
Similar to the paragraphs on the mass media and contemporary democracies Habermas himself
backs up the point of the mass media negatively affecting the democracy.
He argues that commercialised media in the new public sphere have turned the public sphere into
a place where advertising is prioritised (Habermas, Lennox and Lennox 1974). A point that backs
this theory up is the way the mass media influences television in a political way, as it is
deteriorating the public sphere (Hart,1994). This opinion is key in the context of explaining the
public sphere theory as it helps to highlight a key point in the modern democracy.
Harts opinion highlights one of the main tools of influence within the mass media, news
organisations influence the audiences view point through what they broadcast on their television
channels.
(Quoted in Papacharissi, 2010, p.232) Habermas (2004) suggests that main stream media content
have colonized the public sphere and compromised rational and democratic public discourse. This

from the West, Japan has changed dramatically. The result of the military revolution was the
development of a strong central power, which helped Japan become a modern nation (McNeill and

The extensive production of muskets and ammunition helped economy grow rapidly. As the
demand for guns grew, skilled gunsmiths established schools and workshops to train men and
numerous numbers of shops started to emerge throughout Japan. Sakai and Yokkaichi and
Kunitomo became especially well known as the center of manufacturer of firearms. According
to the writing by a Portuguese explorer, Japan was able to produce a large number of guns just
within two or three years and there were over 300,000 guns by 1556 (Brown 238). The
construction of the Osaka Castle stimulated greater industrial and commercial business. This
castle was built to express Hideyoshi s power but another contributing factor was the usage of

the castle consist of large granite stones that were about 10 feet wide and 40 feet long and the
total thickness of the wall is 18 to 21 feet. The eight storied castle had iron covered gates and

Personal Ethical Argument
The set of personal ethical principles which I live by are comprised of a belief in absolute right
and wrong, man s duty to obey God, and also his duty to love his neighbor as himself; each of
these principles were formed by a Faith in God and in the Bible. The principle of absolute right
and wrong was constructed through understanding that if right and wrong were contingent on
man s opinions and attitudes, then both laws and guidelines would become pointless.
Furthermore, God shows that right and wrong are absolute and not contingent on man when He
states His warning, Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for
light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! (Isaiah 5:20). In addition
to this principle, I also came to believe that man is called to obey God for several reasons: He is all
powerful, He created man to give Himself glory, and He desires what is best for us. Like the two
previous ethical principles, loving one s neighbor as himself, was constructed out of a faith in
God and in His infallible Word. Man is called to perform this practice because, as the Bible states,
God ... first loved us. (1 John 4:19)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Textbook Adoption in California, 1879-2014
Textbook Adoption in California, 1879 2014 Suppose you are a textbook publisher with a

break backs, and the legislature has spoken: your books will not be adopted (and you will,
therefore, lose much of your business) unless you clear strict weight limits. The weight of a book
is proportional to its length, so your first thought is to cut some of the content. Will students really
read or even reference 1,000 pages of World History, anyway? But as you start scanning for
superfluous sections, you come to a startling realization: every paragraph of the monstrous text
serves a role. Not an educational or curricular role, necessarily, but certainly a practical one. Each
section is aligned with some state standard, meaning that it purports to teach some element of state
mandated curriculum. Perhaps it is the only passage that mentions unsustainable mineral resource
consumption to comply with California s Standard MS ESS3 4 for eighth grade science, or maybe
it provides a particularly clear example of making an argument from evidence that will be helpful in
convincing state officials that the book adheres to their curriculum. Cutting these standards aligned
passages, even if they are not actually contributing to the cohesion of the text, could easily get you
knocked off the list of instructional materials approved for state purchase. Maybe you could remove

In general, adult ticks are approximately the size of a sesame seed and nymphal ticks are

One method of Secondary prevention is to perform daily tick checks especially after being
outdoors, even in your own yard. Search your entire body for ticks when you return from an
area that may have ticks. Use a hand held or full length mirror to view all parts of your body and
remove any tick you find. Take special care to check these parts of your body and your child s
body for ticks: under the arms, in and around the ears, inside the belly button, back of the knees,
in and around all head and body hair, between the legs, around the waist. It is also important to
check clothes and pets carefully and remove any ticks that are found. Place clothes into a dryer on
high heat to kill ticks. [5]
It is important to remove any attached ticks quickly and correctly with fine tipped tweezers as
soon as you notice it. The CDC reports that if a tick has been attached to your skin for less than 24
hours, your chances of contacting Lyme disease are extremely small; however ticks carry other
diseases which may be transmitted more quickly. [6]

Theme Of Birds In Macbeth
In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, Shakespeare often uses a motif of birds in order to
foreshadow future events and relationships. Shakespeare achieves this by likening two influential
characters, Macbeth and Macduff, to an owl and a crow, respectively, as well as using references to
other types of birds in order to set a tone.
The first major mention of birds occurs when Duncan and his entourage arrive at Dunsinane, about
which Banquo remarks that The temple haunting martlet... Hath made his pendant bed and
procreant cradle. / Where they most breed and haunt, I have observed / The air is delicate. (1.6.4

According to the Great Metaphysical Chain of Being, the falcon is the supreme bird who rules over
all of the others, with the owl ranking a few notches below it. The death of the falcon at the owl s
hand illustrates that the natural order of things has been disrupted, a situation that bears
resemblance to what has just occurred at Dunsinane, with king Duncan having been murdered by
Macbeth, a man who was beneath him in terms of power. This parallel between the upset in
nature and the upset that occurred at Dunsinane reinforces the idea that the owl symbolizes
Macbeth. In the second scene of the third act, after speaking with the murderers in order to plan
Banquo s death, Macbeth pronounces that night s black agents to their preys do rouse. The
phrase night s black agents refers to a predator that hunts at night, which yet again is the owl, with
Banquo likely being the metaphorical prey. This is probably the most blatant of the hints that the
owl symbolizes Macbeth, as Macbeth makes this comment in full knowledge that Banquo will
soon be murdered indirectly by his hand. In that same scene, the crow is first mentioned when
Macbeth remarks upon how light thickens, and the crow makes wing to the rooky wood (3.2.50
51). This allusion to the crow is significant because it is here that the parallels between the crow
and Macduff begin to form. Just a few scenes prior, in act two scene four,

1890 in Denison, Texas, and named David Dwight Eisenhower, although he was known as
Dwight David by many. In 1891, the family moved to Abilene, Kansas, where Eisenhower was
brought up. He was the third of seven sons. He and his older brothers were all called Ike by their
family, Eisenhower was known as Little Ike . In his high school years, he was known to excel in
sports due to his active nature. After he graduated, Eisenhower wanted to attend college, but his
family could not afford the tuition. Dwight and his brother planned to switch off between work
and college every year in order to pay for each other s tuition and ... Show more content on

Becoming familiar with these men proved to be an asset in Eisenhower s military career. Before
the entrance of America into World War II, he found himself promoted to the rank of brigadier
general.
After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, General George C. Marshall called him to Washington for a
war plans assignment. Eisenhower impressed both the general as well as The President (Theodore
Roosevelt) with his well thought out plan to focus on weakening Germany before assaulting the
Japanese. Because of this, he was placed in command of the Allied Forces landing in North Africa
in November 1942. On D Day, 1944, he was Supreme Commander of the troops invading France.
After heading many decisive victories for the U.S., Eisenhower accepted Germany s surrender on
May 7, 1945. He returned home a national hero.
Eisenhower s Term in Office (1952 1960)
After the war, he became President of Columbia University, then left to assume the first position of
supreme commander over the new NATO forces being assembled in 1951. In 1952, Eisenhower
resigned from the army to campaign in the presidential election that year. Both major parties
wanted him to represent them in the presidential race, but in the end, Eisenhower ran for president
as a Republican, favoring their conservative values. His prestige as commanding general of the
victorious forces in Europe during World War II, no doubt, helped him into office. Becoming the

Mathematics and its Relation with Music and its Harmonics
Ever since c. 17th century, musical compositions have manipulated the standard aspects of music,
which include rhythm and melody. More importantly, many musical compositions have
incorporated complex math within, for examples again, melodies and rhythms that create a
uniqueness that has yet to be perfectly matched by other composers. One other key aspect of music
in general, harmony, is where a fairly complex mathematical formula is involved: the harmonic
mean. Because harmony is a major component of music, it is no surprise that this harmonic mean
can be applied to nearly all types of music. Basically, a harmonic mean as it applies to music ~is
any possible division between an original note and the octaveof that note that produces a different
note. With that, there is a sequence in the divisions between a note and its octave that is not very
consistent in distance from the original note. One instrument in particular that can demonstrate this
type of mean is the vioiin because of the harmonic tones produced whenever a finger is pressed on
a string. At certain points on a string. different notes are produced by the harmonics of the upper
and iower naives of the string, which would be examples of harmonic means.
The diagram above is of a D string on a violin from the beginning of the neck where the string first
crosses the neck to where the string touches the bridge. The halfway notation marks the most
prominent harmonic mean on a violin: the octave. Its harmonic mean is 1/2

The Influence of Realism and Naturalism on 20th Century...
The Influence of Realism and Naturalism on 20th Century American Fiction After World War I,
American people and the authors among them were left disillusioned by the effects that war had on
their society. America needed a literature that would explain what had happened and what was
happening to their society. American writers turned to what is now known as modernism. The
influence of 19th Centuryrealismand naturalism and their truthful representation of American life
and people was evident in post World War I
modernism. This paper will try to prove this by
presenting the basic ideas and of these literary genres, literary examples of each, and then make
connections between the two literary movements. Realism Modernism not only depicted... Show

Literary naturalism invited writers to examine human beings objectively, as a scientist studies
nature ( Am. Lit. Compton s). In portraying ugliness and cruelty, the authors refrained from
preaching about them; rather they left readers to draw their own conclusions about the life they
presented. Generally, these authors took a pessimistic view to portray a life that centered on the
negative part of man s existence. When dealing with society directly, naturalists generally detailed
the destruction of people without any sentiment. To do this, they wrote more open about society s
problems in a more open manner usually using nature as a symbol for society. Naturalistic
literature, like! realistic, served as a catalyst for change but, in contrast, was a little more like
propaganda. Even though only twenty years may have separated them, the transformation from
realism/naturalism to modernism was a long one in terms of how much society had changed. The
aforementioned rapid change in American society and America s relation with the rest of the
world left America in disarray. After the first World War, American society was divided and left
without definition. This called for a new age of literary expression to control and document the
isolationist fears , corruption , and disenchantment (Bradley 1339 1340) caused by the war. Authors
looked to explain their generation and to respond to the

The Pros And Cons Of The California Water Project
6.The California Water Project takes water from northern California to the south through various
means. The two sides have disagreements on how the water should be used. Northern Californians
argue that if they sent more water to the south, they would waste it, resulting in the Sacramento
River being degraded. However, southern Californians still want more water, because they feel
that their growing populations and agricultural needs require the water. The Aral Sea was the
world s fourth largest freshwater lake in 1960. Since then, there has been a water transfer project
using mainly a canal that sends water to numerous locations across Asia. It is now almost dry
because of our use. Some ways it has been effected include: it s lost 72 feet of height, 89% of its
volume, and has been split in half. Also, its salinity increased sevenfold while toxicity increased
(resulting in contaminated drinking water and health issues). Recovery efforts soon began in 1999,
and with the contribution of 600 million dollars from the UN and the World Bank. Surrounding
countries also worked hard, and now the situation, though still progressing toward the worse, is
more or less stable. China s South North Water Transfer Project mostly involves three large
channels. This project is very expensive, but provides water to the water needy huge population of
northern China. There are critics, although there are scientists that believe the potential economic,
health, and environmental benefits from this

Aid For The United States
Aid is defined as a voluntary transfer of resources from one government to another independent
government, but to what extent should a country help. It is known that aid can be in the form of
debt, food, or cash. Often in today s world population many people agree or disagree with
helping countries receive aid. The ones who don t agree think that by giving a country aid, it
makes them lazier and gives them no incentive. It also creates a corrupt government. But to the
ones who do agree they think that by giving aid it helps a country in becoming stable more
democratic. But with the amount given to these countries year after year, you sometimes begin to
question government funding. How do most political officials decide which country should
receive aid, when each country is different. The United States for example has used aid as a
political tool to keep political interest in certain countries, but has it been effective. The article
who gives foreign aid to whom and why? written by Alberto Alesina and David Dollar shows five
major donor countries. Both authors for example state that the United States gives aid based on
political interest specifically to the Middle East, the article also states that Benefits of foreign aid
have recently been under severe scrutiny. Several observers argue that a large portion of foreign aid
flow from developed to developing countries is wasted and increases unproductive public
consumption. Poor institutional development, corruption,

Questions On Ostracoderm
1)Ostracoderm. What are their characteristics? Did they all look the same? Do they possess the
chordate characteristics? Vertebrate characteristics?
Ostracoderm was regarded as the primitive and oldest chordates according to (Gregory
1995).They possessed small fins i.e. medial fins but they lacked lateral fins. Their mouths were
always open. Their body size is small with non beyond 15 cm long.
They move food with help of ciliated motion and their muscular gill pouch assist them in creating
suction to pull small slow moving prey.
All Ostracoderm have similar characteristic and depicts vertebrate characteristics.

Their scales are very hard like a bone and a tail unlike any existing fish. They also possessed four
fleshy fins which extend outwards like limbs and arrange in alternating pattern. The movement of
their paired fins is like the movement of forelegs and hind legs of tetrapod moving on land.
Coelacanth also has intracranial joint and hinge in the skull which enables them to open their

National Alliance On Mental Illnesses
There are many organizations that have a huge impact on society, the one I chose to write about is
the National Alliance on Mental Illness, also referred to as NAMI. NAMI is the most popular
mental health organization. Members of this organization work hard to better the lives of those
affected by mental illnesses. The National Alliance on Mental Health has four priorities, those are
educating, advocating, listening, and leading. Mental health is a growing topic that is hard to
ignore, this is because organizations like the NAMI have offered many educational tools in hopes
of teaching society what mental illnesses are and how to help people struggling with mental
illnesses. This organization advocates for others suffering mental illnesses,... Show more content on

The NAMI has shown society how serious mental illnesses are, if one of these many illnesses is
left untreated it can lead to even more serious things. Anxiety and Depression are a deadly
combination and unfortunately, 20% of the teen population experiences and over 25 million
Americans experience it every year. Both of these mental illnesses are hard to handle and often
end in suicide, 90% of people who commit suicide have a mental disorder and 50% of these
suicides are caused by depression. Every day around 121 people kill themselves and with society
s help, we can end this. Also, both of these mental illnesses can lead to eating disorders and other
serious health issues. Once everyone realizes how serious mental illnesses are, the more help these
people will

The crash of Polish Air Force Tu 154 transporting the Polish Delegation on 10 April 2010 on the
Russian Federation s Territory
Introductory Memorandum
Rapporteur: Mr Robert NEILL, United Kingdom, European Conservatives Group
1.Introduction
1.On the 10 April 2010, a Tupolev Tu 154M aircraft was carrying the Polish State delegation, led
by President Lech KaczyЕ„ski, to Smolensk Russia to attend a ceremony marking the 70th
anniversary of the Katyn Massacre. The plane crashed, killing all the 96 passengers on board. The
fatalities included President Lech KaczyЕ„ski, his wife Maria and many high ranking Polish
officials including the chief of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
4.This outcome was seen as controversial by Polish civil society groups, as well as some
independent governmental bodies and international observers, mostly because of the allegedly
questionable manner in which the investigation was conducted and the legal manoeuvrings that
took place immediately after the accident.
5.On 13 April 2010, Vladimir Putin, as the Head of the State Commission, delegated the general
supervision of the technical investigation to the Chairperson of the Interstate Aviation Committee (
IAC ). In addition, the decision was made to conduct the investigation of the crash in compliance
with Annex 13 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation instead of by using the rules laid
out in the 1993 Polish Russian Agreement that regulates military aviation in the airspace of both
contracting states.
6.Over five years have passed after the accident, and the Russian Federation still maintains
possession of the plane wreckage, the black boxes with original flight data recordings and other
material evidence.
2.Background Legislation
2.1Choice of the governing legal regime
7. From a legal point of view the choice of juridical regime covering the investigations is complex
and leaves room for interpretation. Three days after the accident, the two state parties involved
debated which legal regime applies. The first obvious choice would have been the 1993 Polish
Russian Agreement, regulating military flights in the two

Charles Bulfinch Accomplishments
Charles Bulfinch was well known for his architectural designs of government buildings in the
United States. In fact, he was the first American citizen who took architecture as a profession.
Throughout his career he worked between Boston and Washington D.C. and during his profession
he served as the Commissioner of the Public Buildings . The famous dome and the Capitol rotunda
in Washington DC were designed by him. Bulfinch was known for his classic taste; his designs
were more towards simplicity, which made him a famous architect. Also during his career as an
architect, he toured in various countries in Europe such as France, England, and Italy. He observed
their architectural designs and met their architects. That helped him to bring unique styles into his
own country. With the blend of his own taste and the inspiration from various countries, he built
classic architectures in America. He was the one who brought Adam style architectureinto the
United Statesafter meeting Robert Adam, a Scottish architect . As per architect succession
Bulfinch was in the fourth position in the United States. When he took hold of the position, he
used the designs and plans of Benjamin who was the predecessor, but he also made use of his own
aesthetics and made the designs . When Bulfinch made the board of selectmen in Boston, he was

Research Paper On Marching Band
Marching Band: The Struggle is Real What comes to mind when someone mentions marching
band? Is it the music, uniforms, or the movements? Marching band is the sport in which
musicians play while they march on a field to make shapes, but it s not as easy as it looks? They
have to practice a lot, even during the summer; some practices are even 12 hours long. Even
through all of this it is a great sport to take part in. This year was my first year in marching bandand
it was hard! I had to go through a lot of different struggles. Before school even started this year I
came to school Monday through Friday for two weeks to learn how to be in marching band. The
first week we practiced from 8 to 6 and during the second week we practiced from 8 to 8. That is
a 12 hour practice. At practices we would start with stretches then start our conditioning. That is
where we would walk for one minute, jog for 45 seconds then sprint for 15 seconds: repeat. We
did this for 10 minutes. After we conditioned we would have a water break. If you join marching
band, you start to understand why people always say to stay hydrated because it can cause some
serious problems. Usually during the water breaks Abby, Jema, Corbin and me would talk all
kinds of stuff from Corbin s leg hair to bras and food. Sadly our water breaks aren t very long. We
start practicing our marching and the basics of playing while moving at a fast tempo. We do this by
listening to music through the speaker. By the time we are

Jazz Dance Essay
My reason for writing this paper is for my lack of attendance during important days for this

able to do the group dance. That is what I saw as my ultimate goal. To be able to get back to my

struggled learning it. Again I am sorry for not taking the time to email you to inform you of my

Jazz in a dance form, however, originates from the dances of Africans when they were brought to
America on slave ships. This dance form developed alongside jazz music in New Orleans in the
early 1900s. Jazz incorporated unique moves, elaborate footwork, large leaps, rapid turns, and
imaginative improvisation to bring an energetic and entertaining experience. Jazz dance requires the
foundation of classical ballet to embody balance and agility. Jazz dance is viewed in the spotlight
with movies, on stage performances, and in urban areas of the streets and clubs. The
transformation of jazz dance into dance theatre and the important role of professional techniques
and choreography, created modern jazz dance . Beginning in the 1930s and continuing through the
1960s, Jazz dance transformed from its original form into a theatre focused performance form of
dance that required a highly trained dancer. Eventually these highly trained dancers performed a
specific set of movements, which differed greatly from the original form of dance that started in
New Orleans in the 1900s. Also during this time period jazz dance was profoundly influenced by

Not Just Minor Characters In April Morning, By Howard Fast
Not Just Minor Characters Pop! Ping! Bang! These are the sounds that rang throughout the morning
of April 19th, 1775, in Lexington, Massachusetts. Howard Fast writes in the book April Morning
about the day of the Battle of Lexington through the eyes of Adam Cooper, but Adam is not the
only important characterin this story. Granny Cooper, Sarah Cooper, and Ruth Simmons do not
seem to have a major role, but they are not just minor characters. GrannyCooper is the mother of
Moses Cooper and the grandmother of Adam Cooper. Even though Granny never picked up a gun
the entire book, she is still a very important character within the story. Fast writes in April Morning
that Adam makes the comment, My own opinion was that Granny could win hands down in any

She is the wife of Moses Cooper and the mother of Adam Cooper. In April Morning, Fast writes, I
don t see how it gives her the right to talk to you the way she down. You re a grown man, not a
boy. (pg 46). Sarah conveys that she does not approve of the way Granny Cooper talks to Moses
Cooper. She is defensive of her husband s pride. She also seems annoyed that her mother in law
talks that way to her husband like he is a child, not a grown man. After Sarah discovers that
Moses is dead, she is very upset. If I don t appear just the same I mean the way you think about
me as your mother today and even tomorrow, you understand . (Fast pg 195). Sarah is in shock
that her husband is dead. She has never had this happen to her, so she does not know how to
process her emotions. She tells Adam that she may not be able to act as his mother right now,
because she is mourning Moses. Sarah Cooper is painted as a static character and she does not

  • 3. The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin is a criticism of today s capitalism by investigating what society structure would be best for human society. Le Guin uses the two models of capitalism and communism to be compared and contrasted against one another to determine which would function better and how to achieve such success. In order to depict what a replacement structure would look like; Le Guin creates two worlds to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of influence that each of these models have not only on their society, but on Shevek, the main character. The planet of Urras is a wealthy society, but all of this money is in the hands of the elites at the expense of those in the lower, working class. Their power continues to be protected by state figures as they work hand in hand adjusting society structures to benefit themselves and not every other citizen left into poverty. The moon of Urras is Anarres which is a stateless society that is continuously stagnant and has been in such a position for several decades. Although Anarres is described as the better world out of the two, the subtitle of the novel An Ambiguous Utopia indicates that there are some downfalls to this seemingly perfect society. This is a world of devastation with majority of their citizens in poverty and forced to work in jobs that they are not suited for and ultimately hate. The working class is a necessity for this planet to be sustained despite their bleak living conditions and weaknesses. Its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Family Guy Is An American Sitcom Texas Longhorns football fans often use a specific hand gesture when rooting for their team; by holding up the fore and pinkie fingers while keeping the middle and ring fingers down, using the thumb to hold the middle and ring fingers in position, they make bull horns. However, if a Longhorns fan were to make this same gesture in Spain, it would be an offensive gesture that means to have sex with someone else s wife. All people, and even animals, uses communicationto transmit messages. However, many factors can warp or change what the sender is trying to communicate. The Texas fan intended to use the hand gesture as a positive message in support of a sports team, but due to the difference in cultural identity, the receiver interpreted it as something very different. Cultural identity, along with stereotyping, language and nonverbal cues, plays a large role in affecting communication between individuals and can be seen anywhere from conversations between friends, to business exchanges, to sitcoms. Family Guy is an American sitcom that uses many concepts of communication to transmit humorous messages to audiences. The cartoon is about a white suburbian family named the Griffins who live in Quahog, Rhode Island, and often uses vulgar language and slapstick humor to entertain the audience. The main character, Peter, and his wife Lois have three children, Meg, Chris and Stewie, and a dog named Brian. In this episode, Stewie and Brian travel back in time to the Nazi invasion of ... Nt1310 Unit 1 Research Paper Question 3 The Standard Model of particle physics is a theory concerning the electromagnetic, weak and strong forces, as well as classifying all the subatomic particles known. It was developed as a collaborative effort of scientists around the world during the latter half of the 20th century. Because of its success in explaining wide variety of experimental results, the Standard Model is often referred to as a theory of almost everything . Although the Standard Model is quite consistent, it does not address some profound questions about the nature of the universe and it does leave some phenomena unexplained. • 7. The Paradox Of Sustainable Development The Paradox of Sustainable Development in Southern Bahia While driving through the Atlantic Forest in Bahia, everywhere one looked it was green. I could not get over how much green there was. Unfortunately, only 7% of the original forest here remains today (Hance). The rapid growth of the cocoa economy combined with unsustainable practices led to this rapid decline. Agriculture still plays a major role in this region and will continue to impact the Atlantic Forest ecosystem unless more sustainable measures are put into place. There are numerous groups responsible for the direction of development in this region; however, a special emphasis needs to be placed on the role of social divisions and inequality. Presently and into the future, social classes will have an important role in the success or failure of sustainable development in the Atlantic Forest region. To comprehend why, sustainable development must be defined and then evaluated in the context of agriculture and land distribution. In order to understand how social classes can affect sustainable development, the term sustainable development must first be defined. The most widely accepted definition was created by the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development in 1987. This commission, also known as the Brundtland Commission, focused on combining two concepts that previously were seen as contradictory ideas: the environment and development. In their report, Our Common Future, they concluded that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Essay about Madame Bovary vs. the Awakening Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert and The Awakening by Kate Chopin both show the life of a woman in a half dreamy stupor, overzealously running around looking for something but not knowing what it is they are looking for. They feel immensely dissatisfied with the lives they are stuck with and find suicide to be the only alternative. The two books, Madame Bovary, written in 1857 and The Awakening, written in 1899, both have the theme of confinement and free will, yet differ vastly with respect to the yearnings of the main characters. In addition, Edna and Emma, the protagonists of Madame Bovary and The Awakening respectively, are faced with a conflict between external oppression and their own free will, which eventually leads them to take... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The model she tries to emulate, of which her inability to do so also leads to her suicide, is one filled with exuberant romanticism. Her inveterate romanticisms can be traced back to her childhood. Emma was put in a convent when she was a little girl. Inside the convent, she began to embrace romance novels, which filled her mind with thoughts of sophistication, sensuality, passion, love, lust, and other romantic thoughts. For example, she read The Genius of Christianity in the convent. How intently she listened, the first few times, to the sonorous lamentations of that romantic melancholy expressing itself again and again in all the echoes of this world and the next! (Flaubert 31). The reason for this love of novels can be associated with her yearning to leave the convent. Romanticism was her escape from the cold walls of the convent. Instead of following mass, she look at the blue bordered religious pictures in her book; she loved the sick sheep, the Sacred Heart pierced by sharp arrows, and poor Jesus stumbling and falling beneath his cross. (Flaubret 30). Religious services are a major part in a convent; yet, Emma did not follow mass like she was supposed to. She instead daydreamed and, in a sense, mentally left the convent. Her daydreaming was an attempt to leave the restrictions of the convent. Nearly the same thing occurred in the marriage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Lion King And Hamlet Comparison Essay The circumstances from the film The Lion King are similar to that of Shakespeare s play entitled Hamlet. Creators of Walt Disney s The Lion King were inspired by the theme of conflict between Claudius and his nephew Hamlet. Simba and his uncle Scar represent a famous struggle for power. The connections between The Lion Kingand Hamletdisplayed a recurring and timeless event throughout the centuries. The influences of claudias brother s power, money, and life make Claudias angry. He is just like a villain trying to get what he wants, but cant obtain the throne. Claudias kills Hamlet s father, king Hamlet because of jealousy. Laertes doesn t know why Hamlet was not charged with any crimes because of this. Although Hamlet wanted to kill Claudias to get revenge for his father s death, king Hamlet. Laerters and Claudias work together on a plot to kill Hamlet. Claudias tells Polonius to spy on Hamlet. During this affair Hamlet acts rough with his mother Ophelia. She then cries out for help and so does Polonius. Hamlet mistakes Poliniuses voice Claudiases and kills him. Essentially, what Claudias is doing is putting people like Polonius in bad positions so that his son Laertes gets mad and wants to kill Hamlet. Since Polonius was Laertes father he now wants revenge from Hamlet. Showing love to Laertes, Claudias arranges a fencing match between the two. The goal of this fight is to make it seem that Hamlets death was an accident. This shows Claudiases struggle for power because this will give Claudias the power he wants in the throne. This quote states, In the play, Hamlet is introduced as a troubled man in deep depression. He was mourning the death of his beloved father and his mother s marriage to his uncle. In Act 1 Scene 2 Claudius gives Hamlet a speech to try and get him to stop bringing up his father, probably fearing that the more the late King was talked about, or remembered, the more likely people were to look into his death. Water cooling is commonly used for cooling automobile internal combustion engines and large industrial facilities such as steam electric power plants, hydroelectric generators, petroleum refineries and chemical plants.[1] Other uses include cooling the barrels of machine guns, cooling of lubricant oil in pumps; for cooling purposes in heat exchangers; cooling products from tanks or columns, and recently, cooling of various major components inside high end personal computers. • 12. Nora s Transformation Essay Throughout the dramatic play titled A Doll House , Henrik Ibsen s creation of the character Nora changes immensely from the beginning to the end of the work. Some people may argue and question the intentions of Nora, and describe her as a despicable and selfish woman; however, I see her as a courageous and selfless woman, who longs to be treated as an equal to men. Nora s sacrifice for her husband at the beginning unravels throughout the entirety of the play, and reveals a boundless transformation of Nora into strong woman, who thrives off of the idea of becoming an equal, self sufficient lady as she makes the brave decision to leave her familyto better herself. In 1879 when this drama was written, the duties of a woman rested solely on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Safak explains this deeper by saying, Nora demonstrates her strength in the last act of the play and she distinguishes herself from the other members of her gender, who follow a mob mentality in the general frame of the traditional woman perception (Safak 144). Nora did something for herself that would have been unspeakable in her time of living during 1879. Women were supposed to be dependent on a man for safety, security, and money, which Nora relied heavily on in the beginning of the play. Now, she ventures out of the normal comfort zone of ladies and states, No, that s exactly it. You don t understand me. And I ve never understood you either until tonight. No, don t interrupt. You can just listen to what I have to say. We re closing out accounts, Torvald (Isben 866). This bold decision to move on with her life, without the help of a man, is respectable and courageous of Nora. From the beginning to the end of the play, Nora expresses reliance on others to self reliance. She became a self sufficient woman, which she had been practicing with throughout the play while she worked tirelessly to pay back the loan taken out for Torvald. Perhaps she panned her departure from the opening of the play because she knew what the outcome would be. At last, she freed herself from the caged Doll House and became a strong, independent ... • 24. Multiple Characters In Anna Karenina By Lev Tolstoy In Anna Karenina, Lev Tolstoy describes multiple characters in depth and gives the readers the opportunity to create and change their opinions about most of them as the plot develops. The novel begins with a rather striking quote, taken from Romans 12:19: Vengeance is mine, I will repay (Tolstoy XXV). This sentence s meaning in it s biblical context and full length, is that it is not up to people to punish others for their wrong doings, but that God will eventually take revenge and repay them, for it is his right and duty to do so. Focusing on the meaning of this excerpt, I believe that it is connected to the outcomes of Anna and Vronsky s affair, but also to that of the life of Dolly Oblonskaya and her husband, as well as other characters . In this paper I will support my interpretation of the reasons why I believe that despite the fact that Anna Karenina appears to suffer the consequences of her loveaffair with Alexei Vronsky because she is a woman more than her brother Stepan Oblonsky, the faith that the author assigns to her with allusions since the beginning of the book, is connected to the fact that cheating is fundamentally wrong according to Tolstoy s perspective, and that her punishment is a consequence of the above mentioned quotation. To sustain my understanding of this theme I will make a comparison between Anna and some of the other main characters who are involved in a romantic relationship or, as in Dolly s case, stuck in an unhappy marriage. For Eagle motors the price elasticity for cars is affected by substitute products such as public transport, motorcycles and bicycles for example. During King David s reign, two sides of him are revealed, his successful side as a leader and his bitter, sinful side. King David can be viewed and understood as a great man, but also a terrible man. It is difficult to draw a clear conclusion about his character. This essay delves into both the positive and negative sides of David, to gain a good understanding of who he was as a king and a man. We begin by considering how David is described outside his reign. He could be described as a man with a warm heart, a helping hand, a simple trust, who was courageous and fearless, and who had a deep regard for his country and his God. David did not have as much education as some of the other characters of the Old Testament; however, he had a great love for the law of the Lord (2 Sam. 7:18 29). He was a brave warrior with a warm simple, loving nature (2 Sam. 17:10). Theologian William Blaikie wrote, men feel instinctively that the desire of his heart and the aim of his life is to make people prosperously and happy . David had one great friend growing up: Jonathan. When reviewing the similarities between David and Jonathan, it is no wonder that their souls are tied to each other in the Lord. It is also not surprising that they respected and loved each other because of their faith in God (1 Sam. 18:1 3). When Jonathan found out that his father was trying to kill David, he knew ... • 30. Habermas Theory Of The Public Sphere Having examined and defined mass media and the contemporary democracy it is important however to consider Habermas theory of the public sphere. Habermas defines the public sphere as a realm of our social life in which something approaching public opinion can be formed. Access is guaranteed to all citizens (1974, p.49). It is Habermas theory that the public sphere helps to facilitate the rational communication of public affairs independently from the government and state. Similar to the paragraphs on the mass media and contemporary democracies Habermas himself backs up the point of the mass media negatively affecting the democracy. He argues that commercialised media in the new public sphere have turned the public sphere into a place where advertising is prioritised (Habermas, Lennox and Lennox 1974). A point that backs this theory up is the way the mass media influences television in a political way, as it is deteriorating the public sphere (Hart,1994). This opinion is key in the context of explaining the public sphere theory as it helps to highlight a key point in the modern democracy. Harts opinion highlights one of the main tools of influence within the mass media, news organisations influence the audiences view point through what they broadcast on their television channels. The principle of absolute right and wrong was constructed through understanding that if right and wrong were contingent on man s opinions and attitudes, then both laws and guidelines would become pointless. Furthermore, God shows that right and wrong are absolute and not contingent on man when He states His warning, Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! In addition to this principle, I also came to believe that man is called to obey God for several reasons: He is all powerful, He created man to give Himself glory, and He desires what is best for us. The weight of a book is proportional to its length, so your first thought is to cut some of the content. Will students really read or even reference 1,000 pages of World History, anyway? But as you start scanning for superfluous sections, you come to a startling realization: every paragraph of the monstrous text serves a role. Not an educational or curricular role, necessarily, but certainly a practical one. Each section is aligned with some state standard, meaning that it purports to teach some element of state mandated curriculum. Perhaps it is the only passage that mentions unsustainable mineral resource consumption to comply with California s Standard MS ESS3 4 for eighth grade science, or maybe it provides a particularly clear example of making an argument from evidence that will be helpful in convincing state officials that the book adheres to their curriculum. Cutting these standards aligned passages, even if they are not actually contributing to the cohesion of the text, could easily get you knocked off the list of instructional materials approved for state purchase. Maybe you could remove some pictures? Nope: pictures, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Theme Of Birds In Macbeth In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, Shakespeare often uses a motif of birds in order to foreshadow future events and relationships. Shakespeare achieves this by likening two influential characters, Macbeth and Macduff, to an owl and a crow, respectively, as well as using references to other types of birds in order to set a tone. The first major mention of birds occurs when Duncan and his entourage arrive at Dunsinane, about which Banquo remarks that The temple haunting martlet... Hath made his pendant bed and procreant cradle. / Where they most breed and haunt, I have observed / The air is delicate. (1.6.4 10). According to the Great Metaphysical Chain of Being, the falcon is the supreme bird who rules over all of the others, with the owl ranking a few notches below it. The death of the falcon at the owl s hand illustrates that the natural order of things has been disrupted, a situation that bears resemblance to what has just occurred at Dunsinane, with king Duncan having been murdered by Macbeth, a man who was beneath him in terms of power. This parallel between the upset in nature and the upset that occurred at Dunsinane reinforces the idea that the owl symbolizes Macbeth. In the second scene of the third act, after speaking with the murderers in order to plan Banquo s death, Macbeth pronounces that night s black agents to their preys do rouse. The phrase night s black agents refers to a predator that hunts at night, which yet again is the owl, with Banquo likely being the metaphorical prey. This is probably the most blatant of the hints that the owl symbolizes Macbeth, as Macbeth makes this comment in full knowledge that Banquo will soon be murdered indirectly by his hand. In that same scene, the crow is first mentioned when Macbeth remarks upon how light thickens, and the crow makes wing to the rooky wood (3.2.50 51). This allusion to the crow is significant because it is here that the parallels between the crow and Macduff begin to form. Just a few scenes prior, in act two scene four, ... • 41. Mathematics and its Relation with Music and its Harmonics Ever since c. 17th century, musical compositions have manipulated the standard aspects of music, which include rhythm and melody. More importantly, many musical compositions have incorporated complex math within, for examples again, melodies and rhythms that create a uniqueness that has yet to be perfectly matched by other composers. One other key aspect of music in general, harmony, is where a fairly complex mathematical formula is involved: the harmonic mean. Because harmony is a major component of music, it is no surprise that this harmonic mean can be applied to nearly all types of music. Basically, a harmonic mean as it applies to music ~is any possible division between an original note and the octaveof that note that produces a different note. With that, there is a sequence in the divisions between a note and its octave that is not very consistent in distance from the original note. One instrument in particular that can demonstrate this type of mean is the vioiin because of the harmonic tones produced whenever a finger is pressed on a string. At certain points on a string. different notes are produced by the harmonics of the upper and iower naives of the string, which would be examples of harmonic means. The diagram above is of a D string on a violin from the beginning of the neck where the string first crosses the neck to where the string touches the bridge. Compton s). In portraying ugliness and cruelty, the authors refrained from preaching about them; rather they left readers to draw their own conclusions about the life they presented. Generally, these authors took a pessimistic view to portray a life that centered on the negative part of man s existence. When dealing with society directly, naturalists generally detailed the destruction of people without any sentiment. To do this, they wrote more open about society s problems in a more open manner usually using nature as a symbol for society. Naturalistic literature, like! realistic, served as a catalyst for change but, in contrast, was a little more like propaganda. Even though only twenty years may have separated them, the transformation from realism/naturalism to modernism was a long one in terms of how much society had changed. The aforementioned rapid change in American society and America s relation with the rest of the world left America in disarray. After the first World War, American society was divided and left without definition.
