Negative Externality Of Alcohol
Alcohol is the most widely used drug in the world, because of its accessibility. The term alcohol
refers to the primary alcohol ethanol. In 2015 about 89% of adults in the United States stated that
they had consumed alcohol at some point in their lives. Alcohol is a demerit good, because it can
have negative effects on the consumer. The effects of alcohol consumption can also impact other
people and those spill over effects are called negative externalities. Negative externalities cause
market failure, because an individual s incentive for a certain behavior does not lead to rational
outcomes for society.
Negative externalities of alcohol consumption can be for example when a person is injured from
bad drinking habits, needs medical or psychological treatment, and their family has to pay for it.
In Figure 1 you can see that the external cost, being the therapy the family has to pay, makes the
curve for the marginal social cost (MSC) higher than the curve for the private marginal cost (MPC).
In this case the marginal social cost is the impact the person drinking has on others and the marginal
private cost is the price of the alcohol consumed. Now Q1, the socially efficient output, is a lower
output that the market equilibrium, at Q.
When a person s property is destroyed by someone who is drunk, for example, in a car accident,
that is also a negative externality of alcohol consumption. In Figure 2 you can see that 40% of the
highway fatalities involved alcohol and accounted for about 13,000 deaths in 2010 in the United
States. Here the marginal social cost would be the loss of a functioning vehicle and the payments to
repair the property, which were damaged. The marginal social cost is higher than the private
marginal cost and the socially efficient output is again lower than the output at market equilibrium.
The free rider problem does not apply to alcohol consumption as a negative externality, because
alcohol is not a public good. Free riders use public goods and do not pay for them. Alcohol is a
private good, because you have to buy it in a store and if you took the last bottle of chardonnay the
others cannot buy anymore chardonnay, so it is excludable.
Although you might think that there may be no social

Tom Clancy s Influence On American Literature
Throughout the years, many authors have contributed to American literature by writing
meaningful poems and novels about their past. However, one of these great authors rose up
through his military and espionage styled novels, changing and refining those genres forever;
that author s name is Tom Clancy. According to Italie, since childhood, young Tom Clancy has
always been interested in the military and its history (Italie). He became a famous author that
influenced many writers that writes the same type of genre as his and was considered as one of
the best writer of all time by many. Later in his life, a number of his works were eventually turned

Explain The Stages Of Collective Bargaining
Collective bargaining is a process by which workers through unions negotiate with their employers
their working conditions. This could be health and safety policies, remuneration, benefits, working
hours and leave. Collective bargaining is a tool used to solve workplace problems. The sole
objective of this negotiation is to arrive at an agreement between workers and employers thus
cementing effectiveness, efficiency and productivity in the workplace. Collective agreement is the
result of the process of collective bargaining. The stages of collective bargaining are preparation,
opening the negotiation, bargaining and closure and agreement. The preparation stage in collective
bargaining is where the parties are preparing before the collective bargaining process has occurred.
This stage involves activities that include identifying the approach they would implement at the
bargaining chamber, considering and weighing demands or proposals, researching, considering the
mandates and coming up with their best alternative to a negotiated agreement (BATNA). The
process of identifying the approach to be implemented in the bargaining chamber is crucial as this
helps the representatives have a collective direction of how to tackle the process. There are

The Ethical Principles Of Psychologists And Code Of Conduct
Many universities fail to provide appropriate education in their curriculum (e.g. practicum or
internship) in forensic psychology. Therefore, as they obtain a career in this area they lack
competency regarding the Code of Ethics, as well as other guidelines which can create ethical
dilemmas in the future (Knapp VadeCreek, 2001). Additionally, these individuals lack competency
regarding the roles of the forensic psychologist. The role of a forensic psychologist is to function as
an expert witness by the means of conducting evaluations, as well as interpreting the results for the
legal system. With this being said the information provided assist with the outcome of the defendant

The Different Presentations of Female Villany in...
Female villainy is explored through Shakespeare s tragic antagonist Lady Macbeth, a dominant
and manipulative temptress who fights against the role a patriarchal society has granted her.
Similarly in Browning s dramatic monologue The Laboratory , we hear the voice of a subversive
and emotionally disturbed jilted lover, preparing a poison for her rival in love. In contrast, in
romantic poet Keats ballad La Belle Dame Sans Merci , female villainy is developed from the
perspective of a knight at arms , retelling his experiences with a femme fatale whom like LM,
sexually manipulates her lover. Similarly in Browning s dramatic monologue My Last Duchess the
reader is introduced to the young and naive wife of an arrogant duke, whose attempts to demonize
her result in her untimely death. The two poems told by men leave the reader questioning their
reliability in an endemically misogynistic society.
Shakespeare portrays LM as predominant woman who refuses to conform to the expectations of a
patriarchal society. From the perspective of a Jacobean audience, which believed that women were
submissive and obedient, LM s immediate plan for regicide comes as a great shock. It establishes
the theme of female villainy from the beginning of the play. The conventional 16th century woman
was also expected to embrace their femininity; Shakespeare uses explicit and unequivocal language
to convey a corrupted LM who desires to relinquish every fibre of human tenderness, maternal
instinct and

The Death Of A Nurse
The Josie King story is truly unimaginable. I wish I could review her chart to better understand
how she fell through the cracks. It seems hard to believe that the signs of increasing dehydration
went unnoticed or even worse, were viewed as normal . Even more difficult to believe is that the
nurses were unable to create a partnership with the mother. In the story, it seems as if the mom was
dismissed as a partner in the process and felt as if no one was listening to her. Although a family
member may not have the medical knowledge a nursehas, they have knowledge of their child and
that is lost without their help. What would have happened if the nurse spent a moment to
understand where Josie s mother was coming from or called the doctor to communicate her
symptoms? Did she truly believe her symptoms were normal or was she too busy with
something else? It shouldn t be possible to have a child be NPO without IV fluids running.
While it takes children a long time to stop compensating, I m sure there were signs of
dehydration. During a bath, the mom notes how furiously Josie was sucking on a wet washcloth.
If it was known that she was not drinking, how could these signs have been missed? It seems as
though a total breakdown in obvious behavior and team communication is evident. The care
delivery model failed to keep Josie safe. The nurse or team assigned seemed to lack knowledge of
symptoms and the skill sets present did not work to make up for another team members deficits.

Jonbenet Ramsey Case Study
The Mysterious Murder of Innocence
On average about one third of murders go unsolved in America. Jonbenet Ramsey was murdered in
1996 on December 26 and was later found by her Father John Ramsey in the basement of her home
in Boulder, Colorado. To this day her death remains unsolved with several fascinating theories
encompassing her murder and the events leading up to it.
The mystery behind child beauty queen Jonbenet Ramseys murder can be summed up into two
theories connecting her parents to the crime or one of Johns coworkers. The investigation into the
murder of Jonbenet Ramsey was marred from the outset by such police errors as allowing Ramsey
family and friends to contaminate the crime scene before securing the area, allowing her father to
search the house unaccompanied by police, and letting family members remove items from the
home before the investigation was completed. This case highlights the need for proper crime scene
management (Katz 1). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Investigators suspect that the murder was unintentional. The killer supposedly had intimate
knowledge of the house. The most enticing theory is that Jonbonets father John Ramsey and
Jonbonets mother Patricia Ramsey committed the crime. The theory is that Patricia caught John
sexually assaulting their daughter and when trying to hit him over the head with a flashlight she
accidently hit Jonbenet instead this would explain why the couple would need to lie for each
other and try to cover up the murder together. There has been assumption that Jonbenet was
killed in the basement. Her body was very clearly moved. She had been placed in her favorite
blanket in a dryer that was near her room. This shows the love that the killer had for her. She had
to have been lifted by a strong adult and placed in the most obscure part of the

Summary Of Neighbors By Raymond Carver Neighbors
Alexxis Euan
Ms. Martin
AP Literature
September 14, 2017 Neighbors Point of View Essay
Through Raymond Carver s minimalist styled writing, comes Neighbors, a story about a
seemingly ordinary couple who live dreary and plain lives. In the first few paragraphs we have a
detailed description of the type of people, the relationship, and occupations Bill and Arlene Miller
have. Later on, the story begins to spark a more dark and mysterious conflict by unraveling the
Miller s strange obsessions. Carver uses third person objective point of view to add onto his
technique of simplistic writing to create a more intense mystery.
In the beginning of Neighbors, the reader is introduced to Bill and Arlene Miller. Carver
describes their lives and how miserable they seem to be. This is until their neighbors, the Stones,
go away for a vacation and their apartment is left for Bill and Arlene to watch. Once they leave,
the strangeness begins to occur. Bill and Arlene seem to find comfort in going to the Stones
apartment where we notice their odd actions. The Millers seem to find any excuse to go to the
Stones apartment, making their plain lives a bit more exciting and sparking a connection between
the two. Even their sex lives are described to be more intense. At this point, Bill and Arlene do
pointlessly bizarre things that are completely unjustified. The short story goes from the characters
rummaging through the medicine cabinet to Bill standing in Ms. Stones underwear and brassiere
with no reasoning or thoughts. As well as when Arlene goes to their apartment for an extended
amount of time she comes back with only an explanation of It s funny... going into someone s
place like that. Because the story is told in third person objective, we don t have any explanation of
Bill and Arlene s confusing and creepy actions.
Carver s use of third person objective affects the story by helping his writing technique of
extreme simplicity. Because we can t see into any of the characters minds, less details are
presented, leaving the story more plain. I couldn t wait he said. That night they made love again.
This quote shows Carver s flat prose. There are an abundance of descriptive actions and dialogue

In the 1928 Amsterdam Summer Olympic Games, Canada had a tremendous amount of success.
In fact, it is considered Canada s Golden Age of Sport. Canada won a total of 15 medals.
Comparatively, in the previous Olympic Games, the 1924 Olympics to be specific, Canada only
won a total of 4 medals. This rapid increase in success caught the interest and imagination of Canada
. It motivated the nation to engage in recreational sports, especially for women as female
athletes had immensely evolved following the 1928 Olympics. In addition, track and field for
both men and women in the 1928 Olympics was a major success as Canada had a total medal count

Use Of Satire In The Devil And Tom Walker
The Devil and Tom Walker Essay Authors often look to current events to decide what to write
about. Some authors use satire, which is a way to point out the foolishness of what s going on
in the world using a story. The Devil and Tom Walker is a short story by Washington Irving
written in 1824. This is a story about a man who had a miserable marriage, made a deal with the
Devil to get rich thinking his life would improve, and never really was happy anyway because he
was always scared for his death. Irving used satire in this story as a way to show readers that
when people care more about money bad things can happen. Irving criticizes different parts of
society in his story. At one point in the story, the Devil wants Tom Walker to

Osmosis In A Decalcified Egg Lab Report
Osmosis in a Decalcified Egg to Determine the Glucose Content of an Egg
Tovah King

7/5/2017
Abstract: Diffusion is the transfer of molecules from an area that has a higher concentration to an
area that has a lower concentration. Osmosis is the diffusion of water. The purpose of this
experiment was to study the process of osmosis. In order to test osmosis, eggs that had been
soaking in vinegar were taken and placed in four beakers of solution with different levels of
glucose. Using this experiment we were able to determine the rate of osmosis of different solutions,
with various amounts of glucose, through eggs. In the results of this lab it was found that the eggs
were either hypertonic or hypotonic and that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The eggs were each individually placed in one of the beakers and were taken out and weighed
every 15 minutes for 60 minutes. Weighing the eggs helped to test the process of osmosis by
finding out the mass before and after soaking in water, this will dictate whether water has moved in
or out of the egg.
Materials and Methods Procedure is found on pages 235 to 236 in the BIOL 110 Lab Manual.
Results
Four eggs that were previously soaked in vinegar were placed into four beakers with different
levels of a glucose solution. The four beakers were filled with distilled water, 0.5M glucose,
1.5M glucose and 2.0M glucose. After the eggs were placed in the solutions, they were left for
60 minutes but weighed every 15 minutes to record whether there was an increase or a decrease
in mass. The various masses were recorded as well as the percent change in mass. These were
then recorded as line graphs. From this it was able to be determined if the egg had been in a
hypotonic, hypertonic or isotonic solution, thus being able to determine if osmosis had occurred.
Conclusion When the 4 eggs were weighed it was found that out of the 4 solutions, 2 were
hypotonic and 2 were hypertonic. The mass of 2 of the eggs increased and the other 2 decreased
after 60 minutes in the various solutions. Out of the 4, the most hypotonic solution was the distilled
water; and the most hypertonic solution was the solution with 2.0M glucose. The

Analysis of Major Themes in Chomsky s Manufacturing Consent
As a society, us Americans tend to put stock in varied forms of mass media. From Disney to
Gannett we grow up with selective views of the world and shaped opinions based on TV ratings.
There are many theories on hegemony in American society. Dr. Noam Chomsky, a preeminent
authority in 20th century political philosophy, discusses how news media is a tool for
disseminating propaganda provided by the powerful elite in his book Manufacturing Consent. He
discusses how American mass media is a tool of democracy to placate the majority of the populous
and encourage compliance without overt use of force. He makes several major points throughout
his book. Chomsky discusses how propaganda is necessary to the functioning of our democracy
similar to how other types of government either overtly or covertly enforce support among their
regime. He makes the point that our media and news outlets are inescapably tied to the political
machine. Most importantly, he discusses what he calls the propaganda model of the media. The
propaganda model of the media argues that media falls under five different filters. These filters
describe how the media is controlled and influenced. The first filter consists of the size of the

36). Teaster and Blieszner (1999) say the term distance learning has been applied to many
instructional methods: however, its primary distinction is that the teacher and the learner are
separate in space and possibly time (p. 741). However, distance learning is not a new phenomenon.
The history of distance education could be traced back to the early 1700s in the form of
correspondence education, but technology based distance education might be best linked to the
introduction of audiovisual devices into the schools in the early 1900s. With the development of the
postal service in the 19th century, commercial correspondence colleges provided distance education
to students across the country. This trend continued well into the 20th century with the advent of
radio, television, and other media that allowed learning from distance. In the last decade, distance
education has changed significantly with the use of computer mediated learning, two way
interactive video, and a variety of other technologies. Colleges and universities are forging ahead to
provide learning at a distance, and many institutions are making substantial investments in new
technologies for teaching.
Historical Background of Distance Education in India: Starting from the ancient time, Indian
educational system was not able to provide educational facilities to the all

Choir Critique
The following is a performance critique of the Lakeview Middle School Winter Choir concert
held on Monday, December 12, 2016. The performance was held in the Lakeview middle School
Gymnasium. The concert was performed by the 7th grade choir, master choir, and the 8th grade
choir, and directed by Mr. Bellof. After watching the performance on a video my overall reaction
was very good. I believe all the choirs did an excellent job of portraying the Christmas and Winter
festivities through music. The first performance was given by the Lakeview Middle SChool 7th
grade choir. The first songsung was Going on a Sleigh Ride by: Sally blah blah. The choir as a

The first song sung by the 8th grade choir was Bi Bom by: David Hill. The choir did well on this
song by having good tempo and volume. At the end it was very cool to hear the choir speed up
the song and throughout the song the maintain a steady volume. I believe if they wished to
improve, the 8th grade choir could work on their articulation and balance. They still did very
well in these sections but at some parts of the song it was hard to understand the lyrics and
sometimes the sections overpowered one another. The second song sung by the 8th grade choir
was Go Tell it on the Mountain by: John Wesley Jr. The choir did well on this song by having
good dynamics and articulation. Throughout the song, especially the end, the choir had different
volumes and maintained a clear song so the lyrics could be understood. I believe if they wished
to improve, the 8th grade choir could work on their balance and tempo. Only at some points of
the song did one section overpower another section and the speed was the same throughout the
song. The third Oceans and Star by: Amy blah. The choir did well on this song by having good
blend and articulation. All the sections blended very well together and all the lyrics could be
clearly understood. I believe if they wished to improve, the 8th grade choir could work on their
dynamics and tempo. The choir sang at forte throughout the song and the choir sang the song at the

The New City of Culture Initiative
INTRODUCTION
The objective of this report is to inform about the new City of Culture initiative and to outline what
it means for Limerick City as a cultural location, now and in the future. Limerick City is the first
city in Ireland to hold the title of National City of Culture, which was launched as part of a new
cultural initiative by Minister for Arts and Heritage, Jimmy Deenihan, and the Government. A city
in Ireland will be selected as a National City of Culture every two years, with the designation itself
lasting a full calendar year. The aim of the initiative is to deliver a program of cultural events for
that year with the hope that it will have a long term positive effect on the chosen city.
FINDINGS
The appointment of Limerick as the first National City of Culture in 2014 is an important
opportunity to enhance the city s image. Following the launch of the initiative, Limerick City and
County Councils brought together a team to deliver a high quality program of events which lead
to the appointment of the city as the City of Culture for 2014. Promoting knowledge and
awareness of the culture in Limerick is an important part of cultural development, providing a link
between the city s past and future. Appreciation of the unique culture of Limerick leads to a sense
of identity and belonging among the community. This, in turn, has a positive effect on the quality
of life of the people of Limerick and the city s visitors. Local artists, organisations and civic groups

Richard III Research Paper
The Tragedy of Richard III by William Shakespeare depicts Richard III as a horrible, manipulative,
and power hungry monarch; not so much when he is a monarch, but in the events leading up to his
reign. Whether this interpretation of Richard is accurate will be determined through evidence that
either supports or denies Shakespeare s version of the events. Not mentioned in The Tragedy of
Richard IIIare all of the accomplishments that Richard succeeded in during his reign, considering
that he spent much of his time as king defending his throne. In December of 1483, Richard
established the Court of Requests. The Court of Requests was a place where poor people who did

Where blame is concerned, many of the sources, from the time Shakespeare was writing The
Tragedy of Richard III, that were reporting on Richard, had a consistent anti Ricardian bias. They
could have gathered the information and interviewed the necessary people to gain a more
favorable view of Richard, but they didn t. In the process, they overlooked lots of propaganda and
postdated rewriting of history (Hicks). Shakespeare wrote Richard as a Vice characterbecause there
was really no other opposing viewpoint. In addition, when Shakespeare wrote The Tragedy of
Richard III, Queen Elizabeth I was the current ruler of England. Queen Elizabeth I was a
descendant of King Henry VIII, referred to in Shakespeare s play as Richmond, who is the man
that overthrew Richard, and killed him on Bosworth Field. The official party line of the
Elizabethan era was that Richard was a monster who was not a legitimate ruler of England.

Craftsmanship In Art
The ancient sculptures, paintings, and arts are used to enhance a leader s image. The use of art
started as a means of power at various times in diverse cultures. Paintings were created nearly
during Stonehenge period. Very old Egyptian art refers to the accepted two dimensional and three
dimensional art developed in Egypt from 3000 BC and used until the 3rd century. Since the late
nineteenth century, people have discovered that the ancient cultural groups and individuals have
been composing a variety of arts, was all done on mass off caverns. Twenty seven of the caves have

Program Evaluation and Review Technique Article
PROGRAM EVALUATION AND REVIEW TECHNIQUE (PERT) Category: Planning
/ Monitoring Control ABSTRACT Program (Project) Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT)(G)
is a project management tool used to schedule, organize, and coordinate tasks within a project. It is

project. PERT planning involves the following steps: пЃ® пЃ® пЃ® пЃ® пЃ® пЃ® Identify the
specific activities and milestones. Determine the proper sequence of the activities. Construct a

Determine the critical path. The critical path is determined by adding the times for the activities in
each sequence and determining the longest path in the project. The critical path determines the total
calendar time required for the project. If activities outside the critical path speed up oe slow down
(within limits), the total project time does not change. The amount of time that a non critical path
activity can be delayed without the project is referred to as a slack time. If the critical path is not
immediately obvious, it may be helpful to determine the following four quantities foe each activity:
ES Earliest Start time EF Earliest Finish time LS Latest Start time LF Latest Finish time These
times are calculated using the expected time for the relevant activities. The earliest start and finish
times of each activity are determined by working forward through the network and determining the
earliest time at which an activity can start and finish considering its predecessors activities. The
latest start and finish times are the latest times that an activity can start and finish without delaying
the project. LS and LF are found by working backward through the network. The difference in the
latest and earliest finish of each activity is that activity s slack. The critical path then is the path
through the network in which none of the activities have slack. The variance in the project
completion time can be calculated by

Leadership Styles
Introduction
Leadership and management are two different subjects but both are essential for an organizations
growth. Leadership is A relationship through which one person influences the behaviour or actions
of other people (Smith P et al 2012), whilst Management is more about getting things done on a
day to day basis and ensuring consistency (Smith P et al 2012).In simple context Managers helps in
doing the right thing where as Leaders do the right things. Having a strong Leader and Management
an organization can reap the benefits of Competitive advantage as it would distinguish them to be

A Brief Note On The Country Of Togo
In the country of Togo, the people who live there generally live more to the South and along the
major North South highway that connects the coast to the Sahel River (State department, 2005).
They mainly speak French, but the people in the South speak either Ewe or Mina (State
Department, 2005). The ones who speak the Ewe language, moved to Togoby crossing the Niger
River valley during the 12th and 14th centuries (State Department, 2005). In the 15th and 16th
centuries, Togo was known as The Slave Coast because over the next 200 years, European
explorers traveled there in search for slaves (State Department, 2005). I believe all of these
problems can easily be fixed if the U.S. government realized what the Togolese people have been...

Togo because they are being put into child trafficking, they are afraid to go to school, and there
are very few people who are putting up a fight to help them. In Togo, there is an International
Day of Missing Children on Wednesday (5/25) and it is a time to focus attention on the

are not taken from their families, are bullied and abused in school. The teachers rape the girls and
if they get pregnant then they are kicked out of school and forced to go into prostitution. The
boys are beaten by their teachers or other classmates and they are also raped by their teachers.

Population Control. Overpopulation Is Defined As The...
Population Control Overpopulation is defined as the condition of having a population so dense
as to cause environmental deterioration, an impaired quality of life, or a population crash
(Merriam Webster). A similar way to think of this is if there are 10 people in a small elevator, it
is going to feel congested and cramped. The people will be uncomfortable and they won t be
content with the current situation. This would be an impaired quality of life. If this is related to
the environmental term, then an image of a small, isolated village appears. If the village has 5 acre
of land surrounding it, and a small population, it will only use a small portion of the land. If the
village contains a larger community, the amount of land used will... Show more content on

In China, after the one child policy was implemented, there were not enough babies born in order
to replace the workers. If every couple had two children, the replacement rate would be stable
enough to be balanced, which would be a resolution to an ongoing population problem.
Babies born in 1900 did not live past the age of 50 compared to the current lifespan, 81 83 years.
In parts of East Asia, the average life expectancy was less than 45 years in 1950, while now it
sits at more than 74 years. The cause for this increase is the improvements in overall human health
that is rapidly spreading around the world, not only at different rates, but also in different
directions. One major cause for to enhance health is from decreasing occurrences in parasitic and
chronic diseases. There is also better living standards, more nutritious diets, and cleaner drinking
water, which reduces infections and prevents death in children by allowing them to survive their
most vulnerable years. Babies are still being born, but the people are growing older which
decreases the mortality rate further (U.S. Department of Health Human Services). In addition to a
decreased mortality rate, there is an increase in the birth rate due to the reduction in infant mortality
from modern medicine. While this doesn t make the chances zero, it does greatly improve the
possibility of an infant surviving. One way Is from preventing birth defects, which is the leading

Gene Therapy Research Paper
Gene Therapy Research Paper Gene therapy is described as the transplantation of normal genes
into cells in place of missing or defective ones in order to correct genetic disorders. 1 During the
1960 s and early 70 s the actual concept of what is now known to be gene therapy arose. Many
new practices including the development of genetically marked cell lines and the delineation of
cells transformation by the papaovaviruses polyoma were in the works. Cloned genes became a
product of this new DNAtechnique and were used to prove that foreign genes could actually
correct genetic disorders.2 This new technology in the medical field has a wide range of uses that
is constantly growing larger as scientists continue to study and experiment with it. As of right now,
the uses of genetherapy in the medical field consist of replacing missing or defective genes,
delivering genes that speed the destruction of cancer cells, supplying genes that cause cancer
cells to revert to their normality, delivering bacterial or viral genes as a form of vaccination,
providing genes that promote or impede the growth of new tissue and delivering genes that
stimulate the healing of damaged tissue.3 With this information, a wide variety of genes are now
being used for testing within gene therapy. In the mid 1980 s the first use of gene therapy was
practiced and then seen in a four year old girl when she became the first gene therapy patient on
September 14, 1990 at the NH Clinical Center. This four year

Social Networking and Today s Behavior
Most people agree that social networking in this new era tends to make people overshare
everything, as Mary Katherine Ham in We Shall Overshare argues that the newer generation
share way too much of their personal life online. In addition, author Brent Baughman in Growing
Older in the Digital Age: An Exercise in Egotism argues that the digital age hasn t improved
people but rather introduced egotism through social networking to the newer generations. As a
result people have lost all etiquette through social networking such as Facebook; according to
Elizabeth Stone in her article Grief In The age of Facebook people lose their shame of grief and
mourning s of a loved one. Social networking is transforming our behavior in negative ways First
off, social networking can be disrespectful when mourning the death of a loved one. Ham also
states that Facebook is such a natural extension of my daily life that it becomes a fitting public
place to memorialize my grandmother with a simple picture when she passed away (282).
Turning respectful behavior into improper etiquette when posting pictures of a loved one that
passed away and advertising their memorial when it should have been private and respected. This
newer generation not only has lost respectful behavior but also what s appropriate or not
appropriate to post on Facebook. Instead the proper etiquette would be to visit the family of the
deceased or send a sympathy card. Secondly, social networking can turn into a

Essay on Eros
In the Poem, EPƒÇƒÃ, by Robert Bridges, Eros is referred to as an ¡§¡Kidol of the

authors are trying to convey the same message, they choose different ways to go about it.

In contrast to Anne StevensonВЎВ¦s portrayal of Eros, Robert Bridges shows the god to be of
perfect form and complexion; and virtually flawless. Not only is the appearance of the god
presented differently, but the overall attitude that he carries as well. While Ann Stevenson shows
Eros to be broken and battered, he carries a positive attitude; Robert bridges, I feel, takes a view
that is somewhat opposite.
In his poem, EPЖ’Г‡Ж’Гѓ, Eros is described as having the perfect flawless body one would expect
for a god to have, however, he is emotionless. With the line, ВЎВ§Why hast thou nothing in thy
face?ВЎВЁ I believe that Bridges is trying to show that although Eros does what is asked of him,
he no longer has emotion towards it, and even seems a bit reluctant. I also believe that Bridges is
trying to suggest his view of the overworked god through the last stanza of the poem. He explains
that while, ¡§¡KNone who e¡¦er long¡¦d for thy embrace, Hath cared to look upon thy
face.,ВЎВЁ I believe that this is the poets way of saying that while people are quick to accept the
god, they are also quick to reject the god; and this constant turning of judgment places an unwanted
burden and stress upon the gods. This weight that the gods must carry, more specifically Eros in
this poem, causes them to lose their will to help. I believe that the message that Robert Bridges is

Doing Business in Another Country
Executive Summary
In order to successfully introduce a product into a foreign market it is important to know the culture
of the country you plan to do business in. In order to introduce mobile handsets into a market like
Venezuela, the supplier must be well acclimated with the purchasing habits, tastes, and willingness
to purchase the product that is being sold. Understanding these things starts with building a
knowledge base about the major aspects of the culture and your target consumer. With this being

This is very intriguing for a society that has a high unemployment rate. Most of Venezuela s
population finds itself educated because public education is provided. Even though education is
free, there is an astounding 20 % of the population that has received no formal education at all.
This is outrageous because Venezuela has a compulsory educational system, which means that
people are required to by law to go to attend school for 9 years. This shows that even though
education is provided for free there are still families so poverty stricken that they are not able to
send their children to school; because they need to work to provide more support for the
families. The children that do go through the public education system can attend Universities
which are also free. Although the education in Venezuela is provided for free, this is also a
reason why the education system is not the greatest. Providing education from grade school
through college stretches educational funds thin, which results in each level of education being
under funded. It has already been established that the majority of the people of Venezuela are
literate. In this society there are jobs that require the certain skills such as a lawyers, judges,
politicians, or businessmen etc; but in the society as a whole basic skills are being seen as all that
is required for the average person. As mentioned earlier Venezuela is a society that relies heavily on

The Negative Effects Of Poverty On Children And Children
Besides the fact that poverty affects a child s education, it can also affect where that child might
sleep at night. During the 2009 2010 school year, 939,903 homeless children and youth were
enrolled in public schools, a 38% increase from the 2006 2007 school year ( Effects of Poverty...
). These numbers only include grade K 12, so it is not accurate considering there are more
children unaccounted for. In 2010 more than 1.6 million children (1 in 45 children) in America
were homeless and that approximately 650,000 are below age 6 ( Effects of Poverty... ). With
children being homeless, whether that be bouncing around from home to home or actually living on
the streets, it can all be very detrimental to a childs life. Homelessnesshas particularly adverse
effects on children and youth, including hunger, poor physical and mental health, and missed
educational opportunities ( Effects of Poverty... ). When children are in unstable environments,
they begin to miss more opportunities, such as potential jobs or educational chances. These put
the child back multiple steps, and can most often lead to children dropping out of school and
getting involved with the worse parts of life. The children can get involved with violent crimes
which can lead to either them doing violent crimes or mental issues from witnessing. They could
also get involved with drugs and alcohol, which can cause thousands of problems down the road.

Character Roles In Kate Chopin s The Awakening
Kate Chopin s The Awakening certainly links in with Propp s character functions, although often
Chopin seemed to play around with her characters, changing their functions as the novel evolved
and so on. In the case of this novel, Propp s functions definitely aid our understanding of the
mindset of both Chopin and her heroine, Edna. Chopin both incorporates and manipulates the
concept of character functions. Several of the characters experience a change in their functionas the
novel goes on, with some falling under more than one heading. An interesting aspect of the novel
is that the character functions can be observed differently by Edna, and by the reader. This adds to
the experience and comprehension of the novel as we can view it from two mindsets.
From early on, we are introduced to LГ©once Pontellier as the villain . He is trapping Edna in a
restrictive world; in a horrible stereotype. However, Mr. Pontellier as the ... Show more content on

For this reason, the reader may not view him as such, and may rather label him a victim.
LГ©once Pontellier is a villain because he assumes his wife will be the perfect housewife, like
the women who idolized their children, worshipped their husbands, like Madame Ratignolle.
LГ©once is too old fashioned for Edna and is unable to satisfy all of her needs, and her
expectations for her life. As is said in The Awakening, ...all declared that Mr. Pontellier was the
best husband in the world (p 9). In some ways this is true, for a man of his time, Mr. Pontellier
would have seemed the perfect husband; supporting the family, spending time with his children and
caring for his wife. However, there are some moments of blatant sexism, such as his assuming that
she would care for the children alone (p 6). This would be deemed unacceptable today, but using
Mr. Pontellier as a medium, it helped me to understand the expectations of women in the late 19th
century, which I found

Etoricoxib a Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug Used in...
Introduction What is Etoricoxib?
Etoricoxib, also known as Arcoxia1, is more commonly known as a non steroidal anti
inflammatory drug (NSAID), or as a cyclo oxygenase 2 inhibitor (COX 2). Therapeutically, it is
specified for the symptomatic relief of conditions such as osteoarthritis (OA), rheumatoid arthritis
(RA), ankylosing spondylitis2,3, and overall for their analgesic and anti inflammatory properties.
Arthritis is a chronic disease affecting up to ten million people in the UK. Approximately 14% of
all primary care visits are for musculoskeletal pain or dysfunction, and can be extremely debilitating
if not treated in an efficient manner2, 4. However, Etoricoxib is not the first line treatment for
arthritis, and doctors are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3)Acute Gouty Arthritis: Given orally 120mg daily. The dose should not exceed 120 mg.
Mechanism
NSAIDs work commonly by blocking the action of cyclooxygenase isoenzymes (COX 1, COX 2).
This consequently blocks the production of prostaglandins which are responsible for
inflammation9. The COX 2 isoenzyme is the particular enzyme that produces prostaglandins, which
cause inflammation. On the other hand, COX 1 isoenzymes do not produce these inflammatory
prostaglandins, but have various other effects. An important effect is maintaining a healthy
stomach and intestinal lining9. Traditional non selective NSAIDs block the action of both COX 1
and COX 2. These can lead to harmful side effects such as intestinal damage and peptic ulcers,
amongst others. NSAIDs are commonly prescribed with a PPI to counteract these harmful side
effects. In comparison to the other NSAIDs, Etoricoxib is an orally active, selective COX 2
inhibitor2. It does not inhibit the cyclooxygenase 1 isoenzyme. Therefore it simply lowers the
prostaglandin production, consequently meaning that there are fewer chances of stomach related
side effects9.
Figure 1 Mechanism of non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs6
Pharmacokinetic properties
Etoricoxib has a unique chemical structure when compared with other similar COX 2 inhibitors.
This is potentially the reason as to why Etoricoxib has better oral bioavailability and half life in

The Essential Elements Of Plants
There are 17 essential elements that plants need to grow and reproduce. These required nutrients
are often placed in four categories. The first group are the carbon (C), hydrogen (H), and oxygen
(O) that plants obtain primarily from water and air. The remaining three categories contain the 14
essential nutrients generally taken up by plant roots from soil(Table 1). The primary macronutrients
are nitrogen(N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K). These three elements are required in large
amounts by the plant and are the most commonly applied nutrients in most fertilizers. The
secondary macronutrients, calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and sulfur (S) are usually required in
slightly lower amounts than primary macronutrients. Applications of these nutrients may be needed
but are generally less frequently required than the primary macronutrients.
The fourth and final category of plant nutrients are the micronutrients. Although just as essential for
proper plant growth and reproduction, micronutrients are needed in much smaller quantities. In
many soils, micronutrients are present in sufficient amounts for plant growth. Micronutrient excess,
called toxicity, can also be problematic. Care must be taken to not oversupply micronutrients
through fertilization or pH management. Soil tests are the best way to be certain that micronutrient
levels are adequate but not too high.
How Plants Fill Nutrient Needs
Plant roots serve many functions, but one of their most critical roles is the

The Tell-Tale Heart Literary Analysis
Edgar Allan Poe wrote The Tell Tale Heart as a story about a man (the unnamed narrator) who is
terrified of an elderly man s eye. The narrator becomes so terrified, in fact, that he murders the
elderly man. Poe describes the setting, where the old man was murdered; he uses imagery and
personification to assist the reader in visualizing the setting; and Poe uses the following elements
of dark romanticism to show how the characters felt: nature and man s soul. Poe describes the
setting in a mysterious, spooky, and dark way. Poe wants the reader to understand that something
terrible will soon take place, and the narrator is preparing himself for what he is about to do, ... I
turned the latch of his door and opened it...I first put in a dark lantern...I undid the lantern
cautiously...I undid it just so much that a single thin ray fell upon the vulture eye...and every
morning,... I went boldly into his chamber, and spoke... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poe also uses deep, dark adjectives to give the reader a chance to imagine what the setting looks
like this is through the use of imagery. Poe uses imagery most when describing the old man s
eye, I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture a pale blue eye, with a
film over it, (691). When Poe describes the eye as the eye of a vulture the reader thinks of death,
darkness, and spookiness. A form of dark romanticism that Poe relates to imagery is man s soul.
Poe s narrator makes his hatred for the old man s eye evident in the diction he chooses to use when
describing the eye and the time creeping into the old man s chamber. As the narrator begins to kill
the old man, both the narrator and old man feel a sense of anxiety and nervousness. The narrator
becomes unsettled and anxious because he kept hearing the old man s beating heart; the beating
grew louder, louder! I thought the heart must

The Pros And Cons Of Fast Food Restaurants
The three friends Steben, Derrick, and Gunther Blackwell all knew that they were in trouble.
They prank called all of the fast food restaurants in town. The three acquaintances called Arby s

cube with a side of salt and a two liter Coke. said Steben holding in all of the laughter.
Sir, we do not serve boneless ice, but you can order from the Mc Pick 2 menu for only $5!
explained Jeff, the McDonald s worker.
No thank you, but my friend would like to have an order of Two chicken sandwiches and a fidget
spinner for the toy on the side. he chuckled.
Sir, we also do not serve chicken sandwiches and we do not have fidget spinners! he grumbled with
a deep sigh afterwards.
Ok, I will have two number nines and a number nine large with a chilli dog on the side and a hog
rider toy at the end. said Steben with a red face just barely holding in all of his laughter.
You know what, I quit this job! ,he squealed, I am also going to track this number down and get the
police on you immature and childish kids!
Jeff could hear them all burst out laughing and he was outraged. He went ballistic after hearing
them all laugh. He felt as if he was in the African savannah with a Cackle of hyenas.
The three friends quickly hung up the phone letting out all of the laughter they had built up from
the prank call. Steben could not believe what they had just done. He was dying of laughter

On Nathaniel Hawthorne s Use Of Dramatic Irony In The...
Nathaniel Hawthorne in the novel The Scarlet Letter, explains how dramatic irony is used to see
the perspectives of the townspeople and the audience about Roger Chillingworth. Hawthorne
supports his explanation by describing what the Puritans think about Chillingworth, but in reality
the audience knows how Chillingworth is which is shown through dramatic irony. The author s
purpose is to point out the perspectives of both the audience and villagers in order to show the
irony. Hawthorne writes in a mysterious tone to convey how naive and uneducated Puritan society
is easily mislead. Dramatic irony is used to show the contrast of the views of the audience and
townspeople. The use of dramatic irony creates suspense and foreshadows the future developments

A Constructivist approach according to Wenglisnky, H.,(2005) will use technology to help a student
better learn and understand a given topic, using visual aids, programs etc. While a didactic will do
the complete opposite. It will combine the larger picture of a scenario, going into advanced and
more complicated problems that the student can understand.
Aside from the teaching methods used in a technology based education system. There is always
constructive ways to use technology as well as unconstructive ways. In a classroom environment
a teacher may ask students to do research on a given topic, while setting standards of plagiarism
and showing students how to complete research at an early age. It can also be beneficial for
students to familiarize themselves with commonly used programs and software used in today s
work industry, such as Microsoft word and power point. It can give the student the ease and facility
to find the resources needed at his fingertips.
At the same time it can be very un constructive for a student if he or she uses technology in a
classroom for entertainment and media. While most schools and universities do a very good job in
filtering their systems so that students do not access these websites, student always find a way to
get to them. It is also possible that the use of a computer or technology can limit a student in certain
instances. For instance, a student may be given an assignment to

The Beauty Myth Naomi Wolf Summary
Kaleidoscope of Beauty In our world today, society and the dictionary have a different opinion on
what constitutes beauty. The dictionary defines beauty as the qualities in a person or a thing that
give pleasure to the senses or the mind ( Beauty ). Society has a more cruel definition of beauty. It
puts pressure on women who want to appear beautiful to everyone but themselves. Naomi Wolf,
author of The Beauty Myth, wrote, Many are ashamed to admit that such trivial concerns to do
with physical appearance, bodies, faces, hair, clothes matter so much (486). So instead of
accepting the fact that everybody has flaws, nowadays women will spend unbelievable amounts of
money to try to rid themselves of these flaws just to feel beautiful. The biggest perpetrators social...

Society today refuses to accept people who accept their flaws instead of telling the population
that flaws make a person essentially unique and different. The concept of beauty revolves around
three main ideas: Physical appearance, aging, and losing control of themselves. In The Beauty
Myth, Wolf explains Contemporary standards of feminine beauty have devolved to a point that
can only be described as anorexic, and America s young women are paying the price through a
near epidemic of bulimia and anorexia (486). Girls today do not feel comfortable in their own
skin and try so hard to become somebody else. She says, The beauty myth tells a story: the quality
called beauty objectively and universally exists. Women must want to embody it and men must
want to possess women who embody it (Wolf 488). Women should want to feel beautiful, but not
for herself, but for the approval from the male population. In this essay it talks about how women

Texas Essay
The main objective of this paper is to compare and contrast the leaders, precisely senators, who
have lead in the State of Texas, United States. The Senators are believed to have made key
achievements during their career in politics. The paper will particularly focus on Senator Kay
Hutchison, Texas senator in the period 1993 through 2013, and Senator Ralph Yarborough, Texas
Senator 1957 to 1972. Subsequently, the paper undertakes to review the key policies the senators
made and the impact of these policies to the people of Texas.
In the education sector, Senator Kay and Senator Ralph played an influential role in supporting and
enacting policies to promote learning in Texas. Apart from the Bilingual Education Act that Ralph

These bills enacted show the milestone that Hutchison made in the improvement of learning in the
education sector.
In the health sector, Ralph Yarbrough co sponsored the Medicare Bill that brought about ease of
access to health services by old people. It made available insurance on the wellbeing of the
financially challenged and the senior citizens (Cox Patrick). Kay, on the other hand, enacted a
policy that mainly touched on women s health. Senator Hutchison, together with the senator of
Maryland wrote a policy that enabled women at home to have collateral for their old age just as
those that were in the white collar jobs. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Kay also secured money
amounting to more than seventy million dollars that could help finance the treatment of Texan
Veterans who suffered from the Gulf War Syndrome.
Whereas Senator Ralph Yarborough was an opponent of the Veteran War of the Texans, Kay
Hutchison was a protagonist of the rights of the veterans in the state. Senator Ralph is considered
to have been one of the best policymakers in the history of Texas. Having been a senator from the
South and a vocal opponent of the Vietnam War, Ralph is famously known as the only senator who
voted for the Civil Rights Act, (Silbey Joel). On the contrary, Kay championed for the upgrading of
education for the Texan Veterans. Senator Hutchison further advocated the healthcare policies for
the children of retired veterans. Further, she endeavored to keep the Texas Military

Schools Need 21st Century Materials And Resources
Schools need 21st century materials and resources to serve 21st century students. There needs to be
a change in ideology regarding the function of the library in todays society. For centuries, libraries
have remained essentially separate, even competing with one another to establish and maintain the
greatest collection, and now they need to recast themselves as platforms rather than storehouses.
(Palfrey, 2015) With the introduction of the internet and online information libraries need to
rebrand themselves. Libraries around the world can now share information with one another in real
time, and the competition for resources has ended. That said, there is still value in networking with
other agencies devoted to educationand information. John Palfrey, author of Biblio Tech suggests
that, Libraries must act as ambitiously networked institutions, connecting their network effectively
with partner intuitions: archives, historical societies, museums, and other cultural heritage
organizations. (2015) More agencies are partnering up to give their patrons access to the best and
most credible information.

  • 3. Negative Externality Of Alcohol Alcohol is the most widely used drug in the world, because of its accessibility. The term alcohol refers to the primary alcohol ethanol. In 2015 about 89% of adults in the United States stated that they had consumed alcohol at some point in their lives. Alcohol is a demerit good, because it can have negative effects on the consumer. The effects of alcohol consumption can also impact other people and those spill over effects are called negative externalities. Negative externalities cause market failure, because an individual s incentive for a certain behavior does not lead to rational outcomes for society. Negative externalities of alcohol consumption can be for example when a person is injured from bad drinking habits, needs medical or psychological treatment, and their family has to pay for it. In Figure 1 you can see that the external cost, being the therapy the family has to pay, makes the curve for the marginal social cost (MSC) higher than the curve for the private marginal cost (MPC). In this case the marginal social cost is the impact the person drinking has on others and the marginal private cost is the price of the alcohol consumed. Now Q1, the socially efficient output, is a lower output that the market equilibrium, at Q. When a person s property is destroyed by someone who is drunk, for example, in a car accident, that is also a negative externality of alcohol consumption. In Figure 2 you can see that 40% of the highway fatalities involved alcohol and accounted for about 13,000 deaths in 2010 in the United States. Here the marginal social cost would be the loss of a functioning vehicle and the payments to repair the property, which were damaged. The marginal social cost is higher than the private marginal cost and the socially efficient output is again lower than the output at market equilibrium. The free rider problem does not apply to alcohol consumption as a negative externality, because alcohol is not a public good. Free riders use public goods and do not pay for them. Alcohol is a private good, because you have to buy it in a store and if you took the last bottle of chardonnay the others cannot buy anymore chardonnay, so it is excludable. Although you might think that there may be no social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Tom Clancy s Influence On American Literature Throughout the years, many authors have contributed to American literature by writing meaningful poems and novels about their past. However, one of these great authors rose up through his military and espionage styled novels, changing and refining those genres forever; that author s name is Tom Clancy. According to Italie, since childhood, young Tom Clancy has always been interested in the military and its history (Italie). He became a famous author that influenced many writers that writes the same type of genre as his and was considered as one of the best writer of all time by many. Later in his life, a number of his works were eventually turned into movies and video games that are still popular today. Tom Clancy s passion for writingnovels... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of Tom Clancy, many authors wrote novels about government secrets and military science, similar to Tom Clancy s work. Tom s fast paced and technology heavy thrillers redefined a genre. I, in my books, write thrillers that are full of government secrets that are researched with people at the highest levels of that government. I wish I invented that genre. I didn t, Tom Clancy did, said Brad Meltzer. Meltzer also claims that Tom Clancy created the character Jack Ryan as a reflection to all Americans. He wanted to show people a man that was affected by the Cold War and wanted to do something about it, thus encouraging Americans to take action (Neary). In Powell s view, He was somebody who really loved his country and through his books, he demonstrated that love (Powell). Some of Tom s novels was turned into movies and video games. • 6. Explain The Stages Of Collective Bargaining Collective bargaining is a process by which workers through unions negotiate with their employers their working conditions. This could be health and safety policies, remuneration, benefits, working hours and leave. Collective bargaining is a tool used to solve workplace problems. The sole objective of this negotiation is to arrive at an agreement between workers and employers thus cementing effectiveness, efficiency and productivity in the workplace. Collective agreement is the result of the process of collective bargaining. The stages of collective bargaining are preparation, opening the negotiation, bargaining and closure and agreement. The preparation stage in collective bargaining is where the parties are preparing before the collective bargaining process has occurred. This stage involves activities that include identifying the approach they would implement at the bargaining chamber, considering and weighing demands or proposals, researching, considering the mandates and coming up with their best alternative to a negotiated agreement (BATNA). The process of identifying the approach to be implemented in the bargaining chamber is crucial as this helps the representatives have a collective direction of how to tackle the process. • 7. The Ethical Principles Of Psychologists And Code Of Conduct Many universities fail to provide appropriate education in their curriculum (e.g. practicum or internship) in forensic psychology. Therefore, as they obtain a career in this area they lack competency regarding the Code of Ethics, as well as other guidelines which can create ethical dilemmas in the future (Knapp VadeCreek, 2001). • 8. The Different Presentations of Female Villany in... Female villainy is explored through Shakespeare s tragic antagonist Lady Macbeth, a dominant and manipulative temptress who fights against the role a patriarchal society has granted her. Similarly in Browning s dramatic monologue The Laboratory , we hear the voice of a subversive and emotionally disturbed jilted lover, preparing a poison for her rival in love. In contrast, in romantic poet Keats ballad La Belle Dame Sans Merci , female villainy is developed from the perspective of a knight at arms , retelling his experiences with a femme fatale whom like LM, sexually manipulates her lover. Similarly in Browning s dramatic monologue My Last Duchess the reader is introduced to the young and naive wife of an arrogant duke, whose attempts to demonize her result in her untimely death. The two poems told by men leave the reader questioning their reliability in an endemically misogynistic society. Shakespeare portrays LM as predominant woman who refuses to conform to the expectations of a patriarchal society. From the perspective of a Jacobean audience, which believed that women were submissive and obedient, LM s immediate plan for regicide comes as a great shock. It establishes the theme of female villainy from the beginning of the play. The conventional 16th century woman was also expected to embrace their femininity; Shakespeare uses explicit and unequivocal language to convey a corrupted LM who desires to relinquish every fibre of human tenderness, maternal instinct and ... • 9. The Death Of A Nurse The Josie King story is truly unimaginable. I wish I could review her chart to better understand how she fell through the cracks. It seems hard to believe that the signs of increasing dehydration went unnoticed or even worse, were viewed as normal . Even more difficult to believe is that the nurses were unable to create a partnership with the mother. In the story, it seems as if the mom was dismissed as a partner in the process and felt as if no one was listening to her. Although a family member may not have the medical knowledge a nursehas, they have knowledge of their child and that is lost without their help. What would have happened if the nurse spent a moment to understand where Josie s mother was coming from or called the doctor to communicate her symptoms? Did she truly believe her symptoms were normal or was she too busy with something else? It shouldn t be possible to have a child be NPO without IV fluids running. While it takes children a long time to stop compensating, I m sure there were signs of dehydration. During a bath, the mom notes how furiously Josie was sucking on a wet washcloth. If it was known that she was not drinking, how could these signs have been missed? It seems as though a total breakdown in obvious behavior and team communication is evident. The care delivery model failed to keep Josie safe. The nurse or team assigned seemed to lack knowledge of symptoms and the skill sets present did not work to make up for another team members deficits. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Jonbenet Ramsey Case Study The Mysterious Murder of Innocence On average about one third of murders go unsolved in America. Jonbenet Ramsey was murdered in 1996 on December 26 and was later found by her Father John Ramsey in the basement of her home in Boulder, Colorado. To this day her death remains unsolved with several fascinating theories encompassing her murder and the events leading up to it. The mystery behind child beauty queen Jonbenet Ramseys murder can be summed up into two theories connecting her parents to the crime or one of Johns coworkers. The investigation into the murder of Jonbenet Ramsey was marred from the outset by such police errors as allowing Ramsey family and friends to contaminate the crime scene before securing the area, allowing her father to search the house unaccompanied by police, and letting family members remove items from the home before the investigation was completed. This case highlights the need for proper crime scene management (Katz 1). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Investigators suspect that the murder was unintentional. The killer supposedly had intimate knowledge of the house. The most enticing theory is that Jonbonets father John Ramsey and Jonbonets mother Patricia Ramsey committed the crime. The theory is that Patricia caught John sexually assaulting their daughter and when trying to hit him over the head with a flashlight she accidently hit Jonbenet instead this would explain why the couple would need to lie for each other and try to cover up the murder together. There has been assumption that Jonbenet was killed in the basement. Her body was very clearly moved. She had been placed in her favorite blanket in a dryer that was near her room. This shows the love that the killer had for her. She had to have been lifted by a strong adult and placed in the most obscure part of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Summary Of Neighbors By Raymond Carver Neighbors Alexxis Euan Ms. Martin AP Literature September 14, 2017 Neighbors Point of View Essay Through Raymond Carver s minimalist styled writing, comes Neighbors, a story about a seemingly ordinary couple who live dreary and plain lives. In the first few paragraphs we have a detailed description of the type of people, the relationship, and occupations Bill and Arlene Miller have. Later on, the story begins to spark a more dark and mysterious conflict by unraveling the Miller s strange obsessions. Carver uses third person objective point of view to add onto his technique of simplistic writing to create a more intense mystery. In the beginning of Neighbors, the reader is introduced to Bill and Arlene Miller. Carver describes their lives and how miserable they seem to be. This is until their neighbors, the Stones, go away for a vacation and their apartment is left for Bill and Arlene to watch. Once they leave, the strangeness begins to occur. Bill and Arlene seem to find comfort in going to the Stones apartment where we notice their odd actions. The Millers seem to find any excuse to go to the Stones apartment, making their plain lives a bit more exciting and sparking a connection between the two. Even their sex lives are described to be more intense. At this point, Bill and Arlene do pointlessly bizarre things that are completely unjustified. The short story goes from the characters rummaging through the medicine cabinet to Bill standing in Ms. Stones underwear and brassiere with no reasoning or thoughts. As well as when Arlene goes to their apartment for an extended amount of time she comes back with only an explanation of It s funny... going into someone s place like that. Because the story is told in third person objective, we don t have any explanation of Bill and Arlene s confusing and creepy actions. Carver s use of third person objective affects the story by helping his writing technique of extreme simplicity. Because we can t see into any of the characters minds, less details are presented, leaving the story more plain. I couldn t wait he said. That night they made love again. This quote shows Carver s flat prose. There are an abundance of descriptive actions and dialogue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Materials and Methods Procedure is found on pages 235 to 236 in the BIOL 110 Lab Manual. Results Four eggs that were previously soaked in vinegar were placed into four beakers with different levels of a glucose solution. The four beakers were filled with distilled water, 0.5M glucose, 1.5M glucose and 2.0M glucose. After the eggs were placed in the solutions, they were left for 60 minutes but weighed every 15 minutes to record whether there was an increase or a decrease in mass. The various masses were recorded as well as the percent change in mass. These were then recorded as line graphs. From this it was able to be determined if the egg had been in a hypotonic, hypertonic or isotonic solution, thus being able to determine if osmosis had occurred. Conclusion When the 4 eggs were weighed it was found that out of the 4 solutions, 2 were hypotonic and 2 were hypertonic. From Disney to Gannett we grow up with selective views of the world and shaped opinions based on TV ratings. There are many theories on hegemony in American society. Dr. Noam Chomsky, a preeminent authority in 20th century political philosophy, discusses how news media is a tool for disseminating propaganda provided by the powerful elite in his book Manufacturing Consent. He discusses how American mass media is a tool of democracy to placate the majority of the populous and encourage compliance without overt use of force. He makes several major points throughout his book. Chomsky discusses how propaganda is necessary to the functioning of our democracy similar to how other types of government either overtly or covertly enforce support among their regime. He makes the point that our media and news outlets are inescapably tied to the political machine. Most importantly, he discusses what he calls the propaganda model of the media. The propaganda model of the media argues that media falls under five different filters. These filters describe how the media is controlled and influenced. The first filter consists of the size of the corporation, owner wealth, and profit orientation of the company. The second comes in the form of advertising as the primary source of income for ... The teachers rape the girls and if they get pregnant then they are kicked out of school and forced to go into prostitution. The boys are beaten by their teachers or other classmates and they are also raped by their teachers. Population Control Overpopulation is defined as the condition of having a population so dense as to cause environmental deterioration, an impaired quality of life, or a population crash (Merriam Webster). A similar way to think of this is if there are 10 people in a small elevator, it is going to feel congested and cramped. The people will be uncomfortable and they won t be content with the current situation. This would be an impaired quality of life. If this is related to the environmental term, then an image of a small, isolated village appears. If every couple had two children, the replacement rate would be stable enough to be balanced, which would be a resolution to an ongoing population problem. Babies born in 1900 did not live past the age of 50 compared to the current lifespan, 81 83 years. In parts of East Asia, the average life expectancy was less than 45 years in 1950, while now it sits at more than 74 years. The cause for this increase is the improvements in overall human health that is rapidly spreading around the world, not only at different rates, but also in different directions. One major cause for to enhance health is from decreasing occurrences in parasitic and chronic diseases. There is also better living standards, more nutritious diets, and cleaner drinking water, which reduces infections and prevents death in children by allowing them to survive their most vulnerable years. Gene Therapy Research Paper Gene Therapy Research Paper Gene therapy is described as the transplantation of normal genes into cells in place of missing or defective ones in order to correct genetic disorders. 1 During the 1960 s and early 70 s the actual concept of what is now known to be gene therapy arose. Many new practices including the development of genetically marked cell lines and the delineation of cells transformation by the papaovaviruses polyoma were in the works. Cloned genes became a product of this new DNAtechnique and were used to prove that foreign genes could actually correct genetic disorders.2 This new technology in the medical field has a wide range of uses that is constantly growing larger as scientists continue to study and experiment with it. As of right now, the uses of genetherapy in the medical field consist of replacing missing or defective genes, delivering genes that speed the destruction of cancer cells, supplying genes that cause cancer cells to revert to their normality, delivering bacterial or viral genes as a form of vaccination, providing genes that promote or impede the growth of new tissue and delivering genes that stimulate the healing of damaged tissue.3 With this information, a wide variety of genes are now being used for testing within gene therapy. In the mid 1980 s the first use of gene therapy was practiced and then seen in a four year old girl when she became the first gene therapy patient on September 14, 1990 at the NH Clinical Center. Social Networking and Today s Behavior Most people agree that social networking in this new era tends to make people overshare everything, as Mary Katherine Ham in We Shall Overshare argues that the newer generation share way too much of their personal life online. In addition, author Brent Baughman in Growing Older in the Digital Age: An Exercise in Egotism argues that the digital age hasn t improved people but rather introduced egotism through social networking to the newer generations. As a result people have lost all etiquette through social networking such as Facebook; according to Elizabeth Stone in her article Grief In The age of Facebook people lose their shame of grief and mourning s of a loved one. Social networking is transforming our behavior in negative ways First off, social networking can be disrespectful when mourning the death of a loved one. Ham also states that Facebook is such a natural extension of my daily life that it becomes a fitting public place to memorialize my grandmother with a simple picture when she passed away (282). Turning respectful behavior into improper etiquette when posting pictures of a loved one that passed away and advertising their memorial when it should have been private and respected. Most of Venezuela s population finds itself educated because public education is provided. Even though education is free, there is an astounding 20 % of the population that has received no formal education at all. This is outrageous because Venezuela has a compulsory educational system, which means that people are required to by law to go to attend school for 9 years. This shows that even though education is provided for free there are still families so poverty stricken that they are not able to send their children to school; because they need to work to provide more support for the families. The children that do go through the public education system can attend Universities which are also free. Although the education in Venezuela is provided for free, this is also a reason why the education system is not the greatest. Providing education from grade school through college stretches educational funds thin, which results in each level of education being under funded. Character Roles In Kate Chopin s The Awakening Kate Chopin s The Awakening certainly links in with Propp s character functions, although often Chopin seemed to play around with her characters, changing their functions as the novel evolved and so on. In the case of this novel, Propp s functions definitely aid our understanding of the mindset of both Chopin and her heroine, Edna. Chopin both incorporates and manipulates the concept of character functions. Several of the characters experience a change in their functionas the novel goes on, with some falling under more than one heading. An interesting aspect of the novel is that the character functions can be observed differently by Edna, and by the reader. This adds to the experience and comprehension of the novel as we can view it from two mindsets. From early on, we are introduced to LГ©once Pontellier as the villain . The dose should not exceed 120 mg. Mechanism NSAIDs work commonly by blocking the action of cyclooxygenase isoenzymes (COX 1, COX 2). This consequently blocks the production of prostaglandins which are responsible for inflammation9. The COX 2 isoenzyme is the particular enzyme that produces prostaglandins, which cause inflammation. On the other hand, COX 1 isoenzymes do not produce these inflammatory prostaglandins, but have various other effects. An important effect is maintaining a healthy stomach and intestinal lining9. Traditional non selective NSAIDs block the action of both COX 1 and COX 2. These can lead to harmful side effects such as intestinal damage and peptic ulcers, amongst others. NSAIDs are commonly prescribed with a PPI to counteract these harmful side effects. In comparison to the other NSAIDs, Etoricoxib is an orally active, selective COX 2 inhibitor2. It does not inhibit the cyclooxygenase 1 isoenzyme. Therefore it simply lowers the prostaglandin production, consequently meaning that there are fewer chances of stomach related side effects9. The first group are the carbon (C), hydrogen (H), and oxygen (O) that plants obtain primarily from water and air. The remaining three categories contain the 14 essential nutrients generally taken up by plant roots from soil(Table 1). The primary macronutrients are nitrogen(N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K). These three elements are required in large amounts by the plant and are the most commonly applied nutrients in most fertilizers. The secondary macronutrients, calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and sulfur (S) are usually required in slightly lower amounts than primary macronutrients. Applications of these nutrients may be needed but are generally less frequently required than the primary macronutrients. The fourth and final category of plant nutrients are the micronutrients. Although just as essential for proper plant growth and reproduction, micronutrients are needed in much smaller quantities. In many soils, micronutrients are present in sufficient amounts for plant growth. Micronutrient excess, called toxicity, can also be problematic. Care must be taken to not oversupply micronutrients through fertilization or pH management. Soil tests are the best way to be certain that micronutrient levels are adequate but not too high. The dictionary defines beauty as the qualities in a person or a thing that give pleasure to the senses or the mind ( Beauty ). Society has a more cruel definition of beauty. It puts pressure on women who want to appear beautiful to everyone but themselves. Naomi Wolf, author of The Beauty Myth, wrote, Many are ashamed to admit that such trivial concerns to do with physical appearance, bodies, faces, hair, clothes matter so much (486). So instead of accepting the fact that everybody has flaws, nowadays women will spend unbelievable amounts of money to try to rid themselves of these flaws just to feel beautiful. The biggest perpetrators social... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Society today refuses to accept people who accept their flaws instead of telling the population that flaws make a person essentially unique and different. The concept of beauty revolves around three main ideas: Physical appearance, aging, and losing control of themselves. In The Beauty Myth, Wolf explains Contemporary standards of feminine beauty have devolved to a point that can only be described as anorexic, and America s young women are paying the price through a near epidemic of bulimia and anorexia (486). Girls today do not feel comfortable in their own skin and try so hard to become somebody else. She says, The beauty myth tells a story: the quality called beauty objectively and universally exists. Women must want to embody it and men must want to possess women who embody it (Wolf 488). Women should want to feel beautiful, but not for herself, but for the approval from the male population. In the health sector, Ralph Yarbrough co sponsored the Medicare Bill that brought about ease of access to health services by old people. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Kay also secured money amounting to more than seventy million dollars that could help finance the treatment of Texan Veterans who suffered from the Gulf War Syndrome. Whereas Senator Ralph Yarborough was an opponent of the Veteran War of the Texans, Kay Hutchison was a protagonist of the rights of the veterans in the state. • 55. Schools Need 21st Century Materials And Resources Schools need 21st century materials and resources to serve 21st century students. There needs to be a change in ideology regarding the function of the library in todays society. For centuries, libraries have remained essentially separate, even competing with one another to establish and maintain the greatest collection, and now they need to recast themselves as platforms rather than storehouses. (Palfrey, 2015) With the introduction of the internet and online information libraries need to rebrand themselves. Libraries around the world can now share information with one another in real time, and the competition for resources has ended. That said, there is still value in networking with other agencies devoted to educationand information. John Palfrey, author of Biblio Tech suggests that, Libraries must act as ambitiously networked institutions, connecting their network effectively with partner intuitions: archives, historical societies, museums, and other cultural heritage organizations. (2015) More agencies are partnering up to give their patrons access to the best and most credible information.
