Why Is Trujillo A Hero
Trujillo an autarch and the antagonist of the novel, a cruel man with false views on what it mean to
have freedom. Just like our history show we never seem to have villains who are no different from
each other. People who try to make a change and never succeed because they are afraid of the shadows
that trujillo had set. A dictator that accomplished money, agitation from those who are innocent. It is
sad to say that in this world there were beings like that and other who envy his role in dictatorship. A
man that could get anything he ever wanted except for one thing which was the explosive character
minerva. Minerva a women who is fighting for freedom, her friends and family will do anything to

Irony In Flannery O Connor s Good Country People
Unlike Alanis Morissette, Flannery O Connor used irony in a much subtler fashion in her work. O
Conner s unique use of literary tools is one reason she is considered one of the best short story authors
of the 20th century (Biography.com ). O Connor s use of irony is especially evident in the short story
Good Country People. Equally important is O Connor s use of clichés. The typical cliché lacks any
substance. Ironically, clichés expressed in Good Country People depict abstract ideas. O Connor s
unique combination of clichés and irony forces readers discern deeper concepts within the text.
However, the readers ability to grasp these concepts hinges on paying close attention to the character
depictions of Mrs. Hopewell, Hulga Hopewell, and Manely Pointer. ... Show more content on

Hopewell s character is restricted to the use of clichés such as that is life and nothing is perfect (O
Connor). Mrs. Hopewell s use of clichés extends beyond dialogue. For Mrs. Hopewell, clichés
represent her frame of mind. Mrs. Hopewell implies that she has an optimistic nature and is always
hoping for the best (Kirk 73). Although harmless on the surface, this perspective makes Mrs.
Hopewell blindly optimistic. Throughout the short story, Mrs. Hopewell correlates good country
people to the salt of the earth . Mrs. Freeman and her two daughters, Glynese and Carramae, are her
primary examples of good country people. Mrs. Hopewell does not miss an opportunity

Cooperative Learning in Mathematics Essay
Cooperative Learning in Mathematics
There have recently been many new trends towards the use of cooperative learning in many
classrooms, particularly in mathematics classrooms. Cooperative learning involves students working
together to accomplish shared goals. In this type of situation, students must feel they can only reach
their learning goals if the other students in their group also reach their own learning goals. Students
have to understand their achievements are interrelated. Cooperative learning helps students to fully
understand the mathematical concepts and assists them in developing social skills that will take them
through life.
There are different methods of teaching, in addition to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many teachers believe that just having students work together constitutes as cooperative learning. Yet,
there are many other characteristics that make up cooperative learning. According to Cooperative
Learning in Mathematics , by Roza Leiken and Orit Zaslavski, there are four conditions that make up
cooperative learning:
Students learn in small groups with two to six members in a group.
The learning tasks in which students are engaged require that the students mutually and positively
depend on one another and on the group s work as a whole.
The learning environment offers all members of the group an equal opportunity to interact with one
another regarding the learning tasks and encourages them to communicate their ideas in various ways,
for example, verbally.
Each member of the group has a responsibility to contribute to the group work and is accountable for
the learning process of the group (240 241).
One method of ensuring all students are working is called Random Reporting. In Random Reporting,
the teacher randomly picks a group member to present the group s finding to the class. In this
situation, each group member must understand their group work in case they are called on to present.
This also enables every student to communicate their ideas and be accountable for the work.

The Expansion Of A Salary Cap
Since the age of dynasty sports teams in Major League Baseball, talks of a salary cap have created
controversy and dispute in the great American sport. A majority of fans everywhere are aggravated
and discouraged to watch their favorite team every year as their players are pickpocketed from rich
teams with expendable revenues and resources. The New York Yankees are a great example of this
reaping as they have won five world series in the past two decades with an immense payroll of
talented players. This disparity of fairness in the game has left fans and even the commissioner of
baseball wondering, will a salary cap solve this issue of competitive imbalance. However, the real
corruption is behind the scenes. Team owners realize Major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Using tables of teams total revenue from 1996 to 2001, he models teams demand for talent for both
types of markets. Demand for talent was defined by the economic term, Marginal Revenue. The
results found a significant difference in the revenue between the two markets, Marginal Revenue does
differ across market size and large market teams have a significantly greater Marginal Revenue. In
fact, Marginal Revenue for large market teams was almost fifty percent greater than small market
teams and based on Krautmann s findings this trend will continue. The findings reveal that a team
with a higher demand will acquire more talented players than teams with low demand who will
generally stock its roster with cheap versatile players (Krautmann 3270). Since Marginal Revenue is
greater for large market teams who in return will have a substantial need for better players, they will
actually spend more on players than a small market team. Around the same time of Krautmann s study,
Lewis, Sexton, and Lock published a study about the competition in Major League Baseball. It is
given that, teams who win more will have more fans at each game, greater sales, and more revenue.
Since large market teams have plentiful financial resources due to their ability to sign talented free
agents to expensive contracts they generally seem to have a better chance of winning more games
(Lewis 268). This threatens the

In this section I will be reviewing the literature on children and television. It has been demonstrated
that the average American viewer is exposed to 31 hours of television a week, of which three to nine
hours is devoted to commercials (Furnham, Bitar, 1993). In the case of children, the average

Males were also given greater credibility than were females. Male and female adult characters were
also still clearly associated with activities traditionally associated with their gender (i.e. men were
associated with mowing the lawn, while women were associated with doing the dishes). Finally, they
discovered that ninety percent of commercials had male narrators, and that this was true even in the
case of commercials for stereotypically female products.
Another extensive study was conducted by the Canadian Radio television and Telecommunications
Commission, between 1984 and 1988. This study explored the portrayal of gender in Canadian
broadcasting, and included a subsection exploring the portrayal of gender in television advertising.
Some of their major findings included the fact that narrators were overwhelmingly male, and that male
characters portrayed in the commercials were twice as likely to be employed outside the home than
female characters. Female characters were also more likely to be involved in family situations,
especially in child care (CRTC, 1990). Turning to look specifically at television commercials aimed at
children, careful and extensive study has determined that commercials aimed at children are sexist in
their depiction of female characters (Signorielli, 1993). Focusing on the Saturday morning slot

Methamphetamine addiction is a serious public health problem with many consequences and
complications. Significant illness, including cardiovascular, infectious, pulmonary, dental diseases and
other systems complications are associated with methamphetamine acute or chronic use.
Methamphetamine dependence also causes serious cognitive impairments that can persist during
abstinence and negatively affect recovery outcomes. There are no approved medications for the
treatment of methamphetamine dependence. Efficient treatments include behavioral and psychological
approaches of contingency management, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational enhancement

Peace, serenity, consciousness, and enlightenment; these four qualities are strived for throughout our

A Code Hero in Hemingway s Books Essay
A Code Hero in Hemingway s Books
Robert Jordan has been defined as a Hemingway code hero. In Hemingway s books, a code hero is
usually male, as Hemingway s books seem to have a similarity to Hemingway himself. These code
heroes may have been previously wounded or gone through some sort of an ordeal, and so they could
have a drinking problem, or a problem sleeping. They seem to be disillusioned, and/or self oriented,
and are not usually loyal to a large cause, but rather a small group of people or a relatively small idea
or thing. In For Whom the Bell Tolls, Robert Jordan, the code hero, most likely dies at the end. If it
were not for his loyalty to a small group, the events in the novel would probably not have transpired as

Indecision could provide a reason for having a sleeping problem, as he does some things other than
sleeping at night, one of the criteria for a code hero.
Disillusionment can be seen as the main contributor to the code hero definition. Jordan s
disillusionment grows throughout the novel, to the point where he doesn t believe in the rebel cause
whatsoever, war itself, or the killing of other human beings in the name of a cause. After Jordan kills
the fascist who wanders near his sleeping bag, he is bothered by a constant feeling of guilt. It seems
that Jordan experiences a change as the novel progresses, but his determination to complete the very
dangerous mission never wavers, even though it becomes very clear that they will probably not
escape. His code hero ethic to do what he needs to do manages to defeat his feelings for Maria, his
growing negative feeling about the cause, and war itself. If Jordan had simply abandoned the mission,
he would have been able to live happily ever after with Maria, but he would have let general Golz
down by not doing what he was sent to do.
At the end of the novel, Jordan ends being injured in the process of trying to escape. He convinces
Maria to leave him and escape with the rest of the band. Agustin even offers to put him out of his
misery, so he doesn t have to face the approaching fascists. Jordan, however, does not want to go out
without a fight. By

Literary Devices In The Great Gatsby
In this excerpt from The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, there are many literary devices that assist
the audience in understanding the narrator, Nick Carraway, and his view of the Valley of Ashes. The
word choice and details used throughout the passage greatly succeed at making the Valley it s own,
distinguishable land. In addition, Fitzgerald uses figurative language like metaphors to give the reader
a better understanding of the the depressing and dreary setting. Without the use of these devices,
Fitzgerald might not have been able to develop this recurring setting in the novel. One of the ways
Fitzgerald manages to flesh out the scenery is through the use of diction. Diction is the word choice
and the connotation of the words that are seen in the text. There is a great example of diction in the
fourth sentence of the first paragraph, where the narrator Nick Carraway uses words like bleak,
spasms, and the phrase drift endlessly to describe the Valley of Ashes. These words typically have a
negative or demoralizing connotation, which perfectly portrays how the characters feel about the
Valley and how Fitzgerald wants the audience to perceive the Valley. The specific word choice
reinforces the idea that people that live within the Valley feel stuck, and that being there for such a
long amount of time has made them lose hope that one day they would be among the debutantes of the
East and West Egg. In the same fashion, Fitzgerald develops the Valley of Ashes through

The Innocent Man Book Response Essay
The Innocent Man Book Response In today s society the criminal justice system that we live in is
flawed in so many ways. Some say that it works while others go to prison or jail for crimes that they
didn t commit. In this paper I will be covering specific examples from the book, The Innocent Man,
where the defendant s rights were violated. John Grisham talks about innocent men being innocent
and convicted for murder and sent to unlawful court proceedings. In this paper I will be focusing
mainly on the violations of his 6th amendment. The 6th amendment is the right to effective assistance
of counsel. Now Mr. Williamson was a very indigent or poor man and because of that he couldn t
afford a great attorney. Therefore he was assigned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This violation being in the form of a videotape, which could have completely changed the outcome of
the case. On this videotape there was a full confession from Ricky Simmons. Barney Ward knew all
about this videotape (as it was shared with him along with all other information) yet he chose not to
bring this evidence to the table and share it with the jury. Judge Jones ruled that the tape was not a
Brady violation. The tape was not really hidden; it was handed over after the trial, sort of a delayed
submission (Grisham pg. 258) .This one piece of evidence alone would have been enough to change
the opinions of the jury and change the outcome of the trail. However because Barney Ward did NOT
show this video, this is a clear violation of Mr. Williamson s 6th Amendment, which guarantees that in
all criminal prosecutions there must be an effective assistance of counsel (Cole and Smith pg. 84). In
my opinion at no point in this trial was Ron Williamson s attorney an effective assistance of counsel .
Now the last example of how Ron Williamson s 6th Amendment was violated was as the very
beginning of all this. During the investigation of the crime scene, the police conducting the search had
found two hair samples. There was no proof that either of these belonged to Mr. Williamson, however
they still claimed that it had come from the scalp of Mr. Williamson. However this is just a claim and
Barney Ward knew that and should have jumped on this opportunity. Mr. Ward

Introduction
Pericyclic reactions is a concerted rearrangement of the electrons with a cyclic transition state, which
cause sigma and π bonds to simultaneously break and form. There are numerous examples of both
unimolecular and bimolecular concerted reactions. Pericyclic reactions are usually rearrangement
reactions. We discuss several categories of concerted pericyclic reactions, including Diels Alder and

For more understanding of this stereoselectivity the HOMO (High Occupied Molecular Orbital) of the
acyclic conjugated polyene should be considered. Also, the investigation of the p orbitals on the
terminal carbons of the HOMO determine the orientation of the orbitals that the like phases are on the
same side or on opposite sides of the molecule (Figure 1). Figure 1
In general, electrocyclic rearrangement occurs only when like phases of orbitals overlap and form a
bond. Two methods are possible for orbitals rotation. When like phases of the p orbitals are on the
same side of the molecule, the two orbitals must rotate in opposite directions, one clockwise and one
counterclockwise. Rotation in opposite directions is said to be disrotatory. When like phases of the p
orbitals are on opposite sides of the molecule, the two orbitals must rotate in the same direction, both
clockwise or both counterclockwise. Rotation in the same direction is said to be conrotatory (Figure

Essay Shakespeare s Sonnet 18
During the Renaissance period, most poets were writing love poems about their lovers/mistresses. The
poets of this time often compared love to high, unrealistic, and unattainable beauty. Shakespeare, in
his sonnet 18, continues the tradition of his time by comparing the speakers love/mistress to the
summer time of the year. It is during this time of the year that the flowers and the nature that surround
them are at there peak for beauty. The theme of the poem is to show the speakers true interpretation of
beauty. Beauties worst enemy is time and although beauty might fade it can still live on through a
person s memory or words of a poem. The speaker realizes that beauty, like the subject of the poem,
will remain perfect not in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shakespeare uses two powerful metaphors in line five and in line six to compare the summer s
imperfections to the perfection of the beloved. In line five he uses a metaphor Sometime too hot the
eye of heaven shines to describe that in the summer the sun gets to hot and this is yet another
imperfection of a summer day which the beloved is superior to. Although some may compare there
beloveds eyes with the glow or beauty of the eye of heaven here the speaker has chosen to claim the
opposite saying that the sun is inferior to his beloved in that her eyes are more beautiful. In line six of
the poem the idea of the sun being imperfect is further enhanced by phrase gold complexion dimmed
this is implying that the sun is imperfect in that it is not always hot enough. Here the speaker implies
that the beloved is flawless in that her complexion is never changed, remaining gold like. Nature that
surrounds us is beautiful, the trees, ocean, and the wild life, and although the speaker makes a point to
disfigure the view of nature the intention of the poet is to reinforce the beauty of the beloved. In line
nine thy eternal summer shall not fade is an allusion to the beloved staying young and beautiful for
eternity. This line is referring to the season changing from summer to winter, this means that the
beauty is temporary and fades over a short period of time. The beloved on the other hand is

Analysis of Frankenstein From Shelley s Novel to Branagh s...
Analysis of Frankenstein From Shelley s Novel to Branagh s Film
Branagh s adaptation of Mary Shelly s novel was fairly good with significant changes to Shelly s text;
however this was done to illuminate what he considers to be the major themes of the novel, eg the
dangers of the relentless pursuit of science and Victor s relationships.
Victors love interest with Elizabeth in the film is much more intense compared to what is described in
the novel as communication is mostly through letters, whereas in the film Branagh has Elizabeth
follow him left, right and centre, she even comes to his sick bed after the creation. This however is for
the interest of the audience as many people enjoy love ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As in Shelley s novel victors reaction is the beauty of the dream vanished and disgust filled my heart ,
but Branaghs film attempts to address why he abandons the monster and also how close Victor was to
his family. This makes it even more triadic to bare witness to their deaths, especially when the
distraught Elizabeth is seen carrying Williams s lifeless body, the thunderstorm also sets the scene and
makes the audience feel hatred for the monster and despair for Victor and his family.
Branagh showed the misery of the monster, especially when it was rejected by the De Lacy family but
I think Branagh was very much one sided on where our sympathies should lie and this was clearly
directed towards Victor, this maybe because Branagh is the director as well as Victor. I think Branagh
should have portrayed one aspect of the book in more detail and that is the eloquence of the creature.
Having Clerval stay alive also seems to serve a purpose, this meant they Victors conscience was there
to observe what he did to Elizabeth. Also having Justine killed in that manner made it seem more
painful for Victor as he did not even have a court case as an attempt to save her innocent life. I think
Helena Carter made a good Elizabeth as she portrayed the characters beauty; however she was a bit
boisterous for that particular

The And Disease Of The Roman Empire
Throughout history the human race has been faced with one key factor that no one civilization has
even been able to beat, not the might of the Roman Byzantine Empire, nor the combined efforts of the
entirety of Europe and their scholars could defeat this recurring foe. Pandemics, from the Greek pan
meaning all, and demos meaning people (Harper Etymonline.com), are these indiscriminate killers
whom care not for your social standing be it wealth, fame, or glory. Humans have contested with
disease ever since the infantile stages of the species, but the ability of it to spread was severely
inhibited by the fact that humans stayed in small groups of 10 30 people at most, giving the virus or
disease severely hampered virulence. It was not till humans began gathering in larger, more permanent
settlements such as the early Classical cities of Athens, Ramses, and Rome, that the issue of sanitation
and disease came into effect. This has not to say that our issues with sanitation and disease prevention
have stopped, rather have they been brought forward into the limelight, many nations around the
world today have issues with age old diseases and give rise to extremely deadly new viruses of their
own. To fully understand the effect of pandemics in history, then one must consider three major
plagues of our recorded history, the first pandemic Plague of Athens , the pivotal Plague of Justinian ,
and the infamous Black Death

Nietzsche Pain And Good Will Analysis
There is a belief that pain and good will are closely related to achieving some type of happiness or
fulfillment in one s life. There are many who believe that there must have been some type of great
effort yielding positive outcomes or results after passing through suffering, failure, bad luck, or any
element of pain. Having a good life as characterized by Nietzsche, it fosters a level of discomfort or
reversal between success and achievement because he believed happiness or fulfillment was capable
after failing or experiencing some type of destitution. In other words, a baseball bat was swung to a
person s head by the accomplice, causing severe pain because that person failed to steal the bubble

Unfortunately, Nietzsche s claim to have a good life does not render absolute fulfillment or happiness
because experiencing hardships or physical or mental pain previous cannot guarantee a person s
fulfillment or happiness. In fact, there are other ways which establish a person s willingness to be
fulfilled that is more reasonable than pain before pleasure. I must disagree with Nietzsche s
philosophical thought that hardship produces or reinforces a better outcome or transition which
manifests a person becoming happier or fulfilled with self. In the YouTube clip, the narrator, Alain de
Botton, described Nietzsche s good life is the result of hardship and pain is where the sense of
fulfillment is originated. De Botton restated that Nietzsche said: any worthwhile achievement was
born out of constant struggle and hard work [and] there was no such straight path to the top. It can
only be exposed through the direct result of unvarying trial and error which certainly is developed as
physical or mental pain. There is no glory unless distress or anguish is confronted from the

A Comparison of Women in Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club and...
Strong Women in The Joy Luck Club and The Kitchen God s Wife
One of the common themes in both The Joy Luck Club and The Kitchen God s Wife is strong women.
All the women in both generations in each book gain strength through different experiences. These
experiences range from a war ravaged China to the modern day stresses of womanhood. Though
different experiences have shaped each woman, they are all tied together by the common thread of
strength.
The Joy Luck Club portrays strong women. The examples that come across most strikingly to the
reader are the women who lived in traditional China. An Mei Hsu gained her strong will from her
mother s weak spirit. In her story, titled Magpies, An Mei s mother is forced ... Show more content on

Her life has been a series of struggles and hardships, which she has kept from her daughter Pearl.
Winnie s only companion as a child was her mother, who abandoned her just before adolescence, at
the time when Winnie needed her most. Her departure marked the beginning of Winnie s long journey
with many disappointments and tribulations.
Winnie s next hardship came when she was forced to live with her aunt, uncle, and spoiled cousins.
Winnie felt unwanted and unloved. Winnie is older than her cousin Peanut, but because she is a bad
child, soiled by her mother s bad name, she is looked down on. When she became the right age, the
family gave her to the family of Wen Fu, who was to become her new husband. At first, Wen Fu was
loving and gentle. But as time went on, he became increasingly aggressive with Winnie. The first
example of this is shortly after their new union, when they are in bed together. Winnie tells Pearl that
Wen Fu was kissing my nose, my cheeks and shoulders, telling me how beautiful I was, how happy I
made him. Within the next ten minutes, Wen Fu has turned into a tyrant. He whispered for me to say
dirty words, words for women s body parts not any woman s body parts....the kind (of woman) who
would give her body to foreign sailors. From this point on, Wen Fu s abuse becomes more extensive
and frequent.
Winnie is forced to search for a way in which to leave Wen Fu and still claim her

The Damned Thing Literary Devices
In Ambrose Bierce s short story, The Damned Thing, specific writing choices allow the reader into
believing the unimaginable. The use of literary devices is essential to illustrate what the narrator and
the reader cannot see. In doing so, the terms used to articulate the indescribable are thought provoking.
How do humans view the natural world? Throughout the section on page 47, Shadows of Carcosa,
Bierce shatters the quintessential monster archetype, by creating a beast that the human eye cannot
see. Through the use of descriptive language, characters, setting, style and tone, Bierce produces a
piece of work that goes against the normative horror story.
On page 47, there is extensive detail of everything but the creature. I was ... Show more content on

As the narrator Williams Harker shadows Hugh Morgan, he becomes aware that Morgan is severely
frightened. What is it? What the devil is it? I asked. That Damned Thing! he replied, without turning
his head. His voice was husky and unnatural. He trembled visibly (page 47). This quote highlights
Morgan s role in the making of the creature. Bierce needs Morgan s character to illustrate the presence
of a mysterious creature. Through Morgan s reaction and Harker s witness to the strange
circumstances, Bierce makes the characters reliable. If the story was based solely off of Morgan s
journal, the reader would chalk it up to Morgan going mad. Likewise, if the recount was solely based
off of Harker s testimony, the reader would be inclined to believe he had gone mad. Bierce s use of
Harker s character and the journal verifies the bizarre happenings. Additionally, Harker and Morgan
are used to advance the imagery of the imperceptible being. Before the smoke of the discharge had
cleared away I heard a loud savage cry a scream like that of a wild animal and flinging his gun upon
the ground Morgan sprang away and ran swiftly from the spot. At the same instant I was thrown
violently to the ground by the impact of something unseen in the smoke some soft, heavy substance
that seemed thrown against me with great force. Here we see that even though the characters
themselves cannot see the creature, through their circumstances the

Exoplanet Research Paper
Exoplanets are any sort of planet that inherently orbits a star. In this context, the sun cannot be
recognized as a star that will be orbited around. Exoplanets vary in size that can be smaller than Earth
or even larger than planets such as Jupiter and Saturn. Exoplanets are capable of orbiting their star at
various distances. The exoplanet is dependent to certain areas that navigates the distance between it
and the star that it is orbiting. Orbiting at the perfect distance depicts the exoplanet in the star s
habitable zone. Precisely meaning that the temperature is just right that allows water to be in its liquid
form and the exoplanet might be capable of supporting life.

This will allow scientists to analyze whether or not there are planets that are habitable and can support
life. The telescope will be one of the most vital and innovative technology used to understand
evolution and life. The production of the telescope is a collaboration between NASA, the Canadian
Space Agency and the European Space Agency. In terms of the structure of the telescope, there are
certain innovative technologies used on it that enhances the technological advancements and
development of the telescope. The mirrors used are made from beryllium, which is very light weight.
The telescope also has a very large multi layered sunshield, which reduces the heat being absorbed
from the sun. Another key innovation is that various instruments in the telescope, including
spectrometers and cameras, have detectors that can perceive various signals.
NASA s discovery of exoplanets was released in February of 2017. It publicized the finding of several
planets that were primarily similar to the size of Earth. These planets were established in the habitable
zone of a singular star, which is called TRAPPIST 1. The system includes seven worlds that all have
the possibility of containing water and various resources to acknowledge life. Future studies on the
system will allow humans to examine the conditions on of the system and

mountain side. It was mid summer but there was still snow all over the place. In fact there had just
been a blizzard. But that s what the weather was like here in northern Russia. Agent 001 had scarcely
made it out of the flaming Indian base when the hills echoed with gun shots. He had accomplished the
main part of his mission, destroying secret files that contained nuclear launch codes, but the part of
getting away without getting killed was going to be the hard part. As John opened the balcony door, he
knew it was going to be a beautiful morning. The sun was shining and everyone was blissful over the
barely missed a blizzard that had passed through the night before. As john was enjoying the view over
Moscow, the phone in his bedroom rang. It made him wince. He knew who was calling, no one else
but them ever called. He shut the balcony door and went into the bedroom picking up the phone. Hello
, a person on the other line said in a very monotone voice, as if they had done this same call over and
over again. Hello, 001 here , john replied. He hated these calls they were always so mind numbing the
only pleasurable part was when they were over. Yes , the other person said, this is the FBI, we have a

Left Field Media Llc Is The Appellant
Left Field Media LLC is the appellant (lower court plaintiff). The City of Chicago, Illinois, and Elias
Voulgaris are the appellees (lower court defendants). Left Field Media LLC publishes Chicago
Baseball. Elias Voulgaris is a patrol officer in Chicago s police force.
Facts:
At the first Chicago Cubs home game of 2015, Left Field s Editor Matthew Smerge was selling his
Chicago Baseball magazine at the corner of Clark and Addison streets adjacent to Wrigley Field.
Smerge refused to move when officer Elias Voulgaris told him to go across the street to be in
compliance with the Adjacent Sidewalks Ordinance, which prohibits peddling on specific sidewalks
adjacent to Wrigley Field. Smerge was ticketed and he then moved rather than risk arrest. He later
sued, claiming that the city ordinance violates the First Amendment. Smerge did not have a peddlers
license badge and was not ticketed for lacking one.
Lower Court Holdings:
The district court declined to issue a preliminary injunction.
Issue Presented:
Is banning all sales on crowded sidewalks adjacent to a stadium a reasonable time, place, and manner
restriction on the First Amendment rights of publishers which is fairly applied or should newspapers
be given an exception to the peddling ban?
Holdings:
The U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the lower court in denying Left Field s motion for
a preliminary injunction. The district court may now hear a request for a new hearing and a permanent
injunction. The

Essay on The Benefits of Hydrogen Cars
The Advantages of Hydrogen Cars
As you know, gas prices are going up. Nobody likes paying more money for gas and yet nobody is
willing to do anything about it. Now that we are at war with the Middle East (the main gasoline
providers) the gas prices are going to keep going up. Some people (like foreign ambassadors) say that
trade with the Middle East is good for there economy, but I for one don t like being dependant on
foreign oil. That is where hydrogen fuel cells come into the picture. Rather than depending on a
foreign countries oil, to provide fuel, businesses today should look to hydrogen as an alternative fuel
source.
The United States is too dependent on foreign oil. If something were to happen, like another war with

Then there is the fact that everybody would have to buy new cars in order for the process to work,
most people do not have the money, but the government could always do some kind of fund to get the
money for the people to buy the cars. Mechanics would have to go back to school to learn how to
work on the new cars, or they could put a small training course out and give it to the mechanics.
Finally, the last major problem with hydrogen is the fact that it is more flammable then gasoline, this
is only true if the gas is not contained properly. When you think of hydrogen, you think of the blimp
the Hindenburg, which was a hydrogen filled blimp, and then it explodes because the gas was not
contained properly. I think that all these problems can be fixed. Cars powered by hydrogen get better
gas mileage. They can go double the distance or even triple the distance of the car with the best gas
mileage on the market. The cars can t go as fast as cars can today, but they can get very close. Toyota
is the biggest supporter of hydrogen powered vehicles. They already have working hydrogen cars in
other countries on the road. They have many prototypes ready and waiting for the US. Some people
(like President Bush) like the idea for hydrogen powered vehicles. He put in $3 billion after 9/11
towards hydrogen powered vehicles. With the president and most

The Great Recession And The American Dream
The so called American Dream has fascinated millions of people ever since its common usage began
in the 20th century. There is no reason it should not. The idea of entering a good career, having a
family, and buying a house is, in a word, ideal to most people. However, as life has carried on, more
and more people have come to believe that the American Dream is simply impossible. Even the
famous writers F. Scott Fitzgerald and Arthur Miller argued in their respective works The Great
Gatsby and All My Sons that the American Dream is just a figment of hope and imagination. This
belief is becoming prominent in Millennials. After the Great Recession and numerous economic
fluxes, Millenials appear to have lost interest in the American Dream, particularly in owning a home.
While the American Dream is beautiful and quaint, the current economy, work force, and fundamental
values surrounding it cause Millennials to cement it in a coffin as just that: a dream with a different
and possibly brighter reality. When analyzing the change in opinion on the American Dream, looking
at the current economy is inevitable. The current economic state has been greatly impacted by what is
known as The Great Recession . The Great Recession lasted from December 2007 to June 2009,
beginning with the loss of an 8 trillion dollar housing market, which led to a cut in consumer
spending, financial market chaos, and a collapse in business investment (State of Working America).
Millenials, who were

A Rose For Emily Symbolism
William Faulkner s classic short story A Rose for Emily is the somewhat disturbing tale of Emily
Grierson and her strange life. Split into five parts, the story flashes back and forth between Emily s
funeral and memories of Emily from the viewpoint of the unknown narrator. The narrator remembers
times when Emily refused to pay taxes, and another time when men went and put lime on Emily s
yard because her house smelled so awful. When Emily s father died, it took three days for her to stop
denying his death and let him be buried. The summer after her father s death, A Yankee named Homer
Barron started seeing Emily, which was a big deal because her father had never let her date. One day,
Emily went to a druggist and bought arsenic with no explanation, and the town thought she was going
to kill herself. However, she did not, and the townspeople even assumed she and Homer got married,
but they never saw him again. It was not until Emily died, and they felt enough time had passed, that
the people broke down one of her doors that had been unopened for forty years. They found the
decaying body of Homer Barron laying in the bed, along with a strand of Emily s gray hair on the
pillow beside him. Although the story may just sound like a gruesome tale of a woman with
necrophilia, there can be other meanings found through symbolism. A symbol creates a direct,
meaningful connection between a specific object, scene, character, or action. In A Rose for Emily,
Emily can be seen as a

Persuasive Essay Mining
MINING
Mining is the procedure of retrieving coal or other minerals from a mine. This issue has many reasons
why we should and should not ban mining. We should not ban the retrieval of coal and minerals as it
provides most of the products and items we need in our everyday lives, also, mining is an essential in
the development of bigger and better cities. However, we should ban this due to the fact that it is
harming the environment everyday due to pollution, deforestation, etc.
First of all, we should not ban mining as it is one of the most substantial factors in producing most of
the items and products we have today. Items/products such as, phones, iPads, cameras, clothing, etc.,

We got to the one lane bridge slowed and crossed it then sped up as we approached the hill after it.
The hill is pretty bad because the road curves sharply to the right going up and the angle of the road
slants the wrong way. Also, there are steep cliffs on both sides of the road. We started up the hill fine;
made it to the curve, then in the middle of the curve we hit the grader bump that marked the end of
road maintenance. Jerad couldn t quite keep control of the light truck and we went into a slide. We slid
into the left lane sideways then the tires caught for a second and we were propelled back into the right
lane headed right for the cliff s edge.
I think we would have all just died from fright long before the truck reached the cliff bottom, but Jerad
had the wheel spun hard to the left. Right before we reached the edge of the cliff, the tires caught
again and we were suddenly not looking out into space any longer. Instead, we were gaping 180
degrees in the other direction at the side of a very, very steep hill. We didn t have any luck with the
tires this time, and we hit the hill hard at probably 25 or 30 Mph.
Suprisingly the little truck had its own ideas about smashing into a hill and instead decided to climb it.
We hit the hill kind of at an angle and the truck lurched, popped, and went right up the hill at a fairly
steep angle. Just as the truck started to roll and the uphill tires

Aviation And Air Pollution
Air pollution has been a severe challenge to fuel consuming industries (Wang Hao 2012). Stringent
measures are to be implemented to reduce the effects of carbon emission to the environment. The
WHO (2011) has acknowledged the noise environmental impact as a serious burden of disease, and
recent contemporary studies have recognized a link between aviation noise and cardiovascular disease
(Hnasel 2013). Limited Airspace and Airports Capacities Busy airports have sometimes had to keep
aircrafts in the air in wait to land due to the lack of space and inefficient planning on arrivals and
departures. This causes an increase in costs of fuel and other harmful effects. The capacity of runways,
reception by taxis and the whole port should be increased to allow a smooth flow of activities. The
arrival and departure routes can be separate to facilitate a continuous landing and ascent. Technology
Over 60% of airlines have a strategic plan on how to improve their technique, some with programs
underway. An advance in technology in the industry means easy handling of clients and better service
provision (Lovelock 2011). Efficiency will be high, easy booking of tickets, fast and sophisticated
security checks, reduced paper works and proper communication among others. The right technology
will be an essential tool in the performance of this industry. Economic Impact of Aviation The
expansion of airports and reinforcement of the growth of aviation is evidenced on economic attaining

The Canadian Governing System is not Fair or Democratic...
There are Canadian citizens who thought that the Canadian government we have is perfect, citizens
who believed that every aspect of the government was truly democratic, and citizens who believe that
government could do no wrong. Truly this group of believers has been living a lie. In our Canadian
system of government, large aspects within are far from democratic and need to be changed. Liberal
minded people will cry out for a change in order for government to serve the people better, and on the
other hand the more conservative thinkers will argue that no change is needed because our
government is efficient and considerate. However, our voting system, our Senate, and the power
vested to the Prime Minister are far from democratic, do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It was obvious that he would make votes in favour of Chretien s aims. However, even with his
appointed position he only very rarely showed up for work, ignoring his basic obligations as Senator.
Even when the whole of the government was in outrage at this incompetence, they could not legally
kick him out of office. There will inevitably be more incidents like these unless the Senate is
reformed. Thankfully, there are several possible ways to reform the Senate as to make it a more
democratic institute.
The Senate, undemocratic as it is, obviously needs some tweaks and changes in the system to make it
more so. The Canadian Senate should reform entirely into a triple E Senate (Elected, Efficient, Equal).
In the Triple E Senate, Senators should be elected by the voters instead of appointed, the efficient
distribution of power towards the Senate to balance out the power. This would create a more
democratic and fairer Senate that would better serve the needs of the citizens it represents. While the
Triple E Senate may not get things done nearly as quickly as the current Senate, it would at least make
the right decisions for everyone. While the Senate is a major blight upon Canadian government, it is
not the only one.
The Canadian Prime Minister presents the illusion that this so called democratic Canada is run by the
will of the people and attempts to maintain this image, yet the truth is that the power stays

Theological Cultural Context Essay
White Chicks the movie is a true example of popular culture that speaks to reflective and elusive
topics involving race. White Chicks functions as a remarkable norm in terms of white privilege and
the exploration of power. There was something about the messages and references in White Chicks
that I just could not resist. White Chicks exposes Kevin and Marcus, partners in the FBI, men

White Chicks uses the body, the concept of black body in white body to convey humor and parody in
intricate ways. Where the men masked as white women, attain a position of supremacy. In many cases,
it is my opinion that whites simply do not perceive themselves as raced or marked. Regardless of the
power, respect, and status that accompany the job of being and FBI agent, the film shines light on the
race that marks them in an almost anonymous and invisible sense. For example, when they are sent to
escort Brittany and Tiffany Wilson from the airport, Kevin and Marcus are reduced to stereotypes. As
they greet the sister, Brittany says, We already gave to the United Negro fund (12: 25 28). Even in
their initial attempt to explain that they are FBI agents, the sisters declare there is no need for
communication, they have been assigned a meaning. As Kevin and Marcus clarify their purpose for
being there, the sisters then immediately refer to them as chauffeurs, considering them subordinate.
The Agents new mission is to carry the luggage and pack the car, Marcus is even forced to sit in the
back of the car with the luggage, to make enough room for the dog. Inferring that the dog is more
important. Baby got to ride in the car seat (12:50 53).This scene even alludes to American History
when blacks were forced to sit in the back of a bus, affirming the idea that the dog trumps Marcus.

Just like our history show we never seem to have villains who are no different from each other. People who try to make a change and never succeed because they are afraid of the shadows that trujillo had set. A dictator that accomplished money, agitation from those who are innocent. It is sad to say that in this world there were beings like that and other who envy his role in dictatorship. • 3. Irony In Flannery O Connor s Good Country People Unlike Alanis Morissette, Flannery O Connor used irony in a much subtler fashion in her work. O Conner s unique use of literary tools is one reason she is considered one of the best short story authors of the 20th century (Biography.com ). O Connor s use of irony is especially evident in the short story Good Country People. Equally important is O Connor s use of clichés. The typical cliché lacks any substance. Ironically, clichés expressed in Good Country People depict abstract ideas. O Connor s unique combination of clichés and irony forces readers discern deeper concepts within the text. However, the readers ability to grasp these concepts hinges on paying close attention to the character depictions of Mrs. Hopewell, Hulga Hopewell, and Manely Pointer. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hopewell s character is restricted to the use of clichés such as that is life and nothing is perfect (O Connor). Mrs. Hopewell s use of clichés extends beyond dialogue. For Mrs. Hopewell, clichés represent her frame of mind. Mrs. Hopewell implies that she has an optimistic nature and is always hoping for the best (Kirk 73). Although harmless on the surface, this perspective makes Mrs. Hopewell blindly optimistic. Throughout the short story, Mrs. Hopewell correlates good country people to the salt of the earth . Mrs. Freeman and her two daughters, Glynese and Carramae, are her primary examples of good country people. Mrs. Hopewell does not miss an opportunity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Cooperative Learning in Mathematics Essay Cooperative Learning in Mathematics There have recently been many new trends towards the use of cooperative learning in many classrooms, particularly in mathematics classrooms. Cooperative learning involves students working together to accomplish shared goals. In this type of situation, students must feel they can only reach their learning goals if the other students in their group also reach their own learning goals. Students have to understand their achievements are interrelated. Cooperative learning helps students to fully understand the mathematical concepts and assists them in developing social skills that will take them through life. There are different methods of teaching, in addition to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many teachers believe that just having students work together constitutes as cooperative learning. Yet, there are many other characteristics that make up cooperative learning. According to Cooperative Learning in Mathematics , by Roza Leiken and Orit Zaslavski, there are four conditions that make up cooperative learning: Students learn in small groups with two to six members in a group. The learning tasks in which students are engaged require that the students mutually and positively depend on one another and on the group s work as a whole. The learning environment offers all members of the group an equal opportunity to interact with one another regarding the learning tasks and encourages them to communicate their ideas in various ways, for example, verbally. Each member of the group has a responsibility to contribute to the group work and is accountable for the learning process of the group (240 241). One method of ensuring all students are working is called Random Reporting. In Random Reporting, the teacher randomly picks a group member to present the group s finding to the class. In this situation, each group member must understand their group work in case they are called on to present. This also enables every student to communicate their ideas and be accountable for the work. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Expansion Of A Salary Cap Since the age of dynasty sports teams in Major League Baseball, talks of a salary cap have created controversy and dispute in the great American sport. A majority of fans everywhere are aggravated and discouraged to watch their favorite team every year as their players are pickpocketed from rich teams with expendable revenues and resources. The New York Yankees are a great example of this reaping as they have won five world series in the past two decades with an immense payroll of talented players. This disparity of fairness in the game has left fans and even the commissioner of baseball wondering, will a salary cap solve this issue of competitive imbalance. However, the real corruption is behind the scenes. Team owners realize Major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using tables of teams total revenue from 1996 to 2001, he models teams demand for talent for both types of markets. Demand for talent was defined by the economic term, Marginal Revenue. The results found a significant difference in the revenue between the two markets, Marginal Revenue does differ across market size and large market teams have a significantly greater Marginal Revenue. In fact, Marginal Revenue for large market teams was almost fifty percent greater than small market teams and based on Krautmann s findings this trend will continue. The findings reveal that a team with a higher demand will acquire more talented players than teams with low demand who will generally stock its roster with cheap versatile players (Krautmann 3270). Since Marginal Revenue is greater for large market teams who in return will have a substantial need for better players, they will actually spend more on players than a small market team. Around the same time of Krautmann s study, Lewis, Sexton, and Lock published a study about the competition in Major League Baseball. It is given that, teams who win more will have more fans at each game, greater sales, and more revenue. Since large market teams have plentiful financial resources due to their ability to sign talented free agents to expensive contracts they generally seem to have a better chance of winning more games (Lewis 268). Television and Children In this section I will be reviewing the literature on children and television. It has been demonstrated that the average American viewer is exposed to 31 hours of television a week, of which three to nine hours is devoted to commercials (Furnham, Bitar, 1993). Males were also given greater credibility than were females. Male and female adult characters were also still clearly associated with activities traditionally associated with their gender (i.e. men were associated with mowing the lawn, while women were associated with doing the dishes). Finally, they discovered that ninety percent of commercials had male narrators, and that this was true even in the case of commercials for stereotypically female products. Another extensive study was conducted by the Canadian Radio television and Telecommunications Commission, between 1984 and 1988. This study explored the portrayal of gender in Canadian broadcasting, and included a subsection exploring the portrayal of gender in television advertising. Some of their major findings included the fact that narrators were overwhelmingly male, and that male characters portrayed in the commercials were twice as likely to be employed outside the home than female characters. Female characters were also more likely to be involved in family situations, especially in child care (CRTC, 1990). Turning to look specifically at television commercials aimed at children, careful and extensive study has determined that commercials aimed at children are sexist in their depiction of female characters (Signorielli, 1993). • 8. Sadie Wrangler Research Paper Peace, serenity, consciousness, and enlightenment; these four qualities are strived for throughout our stressful daily lives. They can be found in passing moments, but for me, it is when the crisp summer air is flowing through my disheveled hair. When the sun is beating down on my sun kissed skin. When music is blaring from my speakers. This is when I am serene. This is when I am at one with the world. Rubber rolling across the pavement as my Wrangler fills the asphalt streets with its freeing beauty. Sitting in front of my red Jeep s steering wheel brings peace and understanding to my mind. My foot rests on the warm fender as I fly down the road. The only feature keeping me from falling out is the dainty fettuccine seatbelt wrapped across my lap, tightening, like a mother holding her child, as I come to every stop. Among every turn and curve, I am a boat being hit by a wave, tilting and swaying side to side. Throughout the ride, smells of sustenance and freshly cut grass penetrate my nostrils. For these reasons, Sadie, most literally, has an open door policy. She is open for all to see and experience. As well as the freeing feeling of driving along in Sadie, there is a sense of inclusivity amid Jeep Wrangler ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. A Code Hero in Hemingway s Books Essay A Code Hero in Hemingway s Books Robert Jordan has been defined as a Hemingway code hero. In Hemingway s books, a code hero is usually male, as Hemingway s books seem to have a similarity to Hemingway himself. These code heroes may have been previously wounded or gone through some sort of an ordeal, and so they could have a drinking problem, or a problem sleeping. They seem to be disillusioned, and/or self oriented, and are not usually loyal to a large cause, but rather a small group of people or a relatively small idea or thing. In For Whom the Bell Tolls, Robert Jordan, the code hero, most likely dies at the end. If it were not for his loyalty to a small group, the events in the novel would probably not have transpired as they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Indecision could provide a reason for having a sleeping problem, as he does some things other than sleeping at night, one of the criteria for a code hero. Disillusionment can be seen as the main contributor to the code hero definition. Jordan s disillusionment grows throughout the novel, to the point where he doesn t believe in the rebel cause whatsoever, war itself, or the killing of other human beings in the name of a cause. After Jordan kills the fascist who wanders near his sleeping bag, he is bothered by a constant feeling of guilt. It seems that Jordan experiences a change as the novel progresses, but his determination to complete the very dangerous mission never wavers, even though it becomes very clear that they will probably not escape. His code hero ethic to do what he needs to do manages to defeat his feelings for Maria, his growing negative feeling about the cause, and war itself. If Jordan had simply abandoned the mission, he would have been able to live happily ever after with Maria, but he would have let general Golz down by not doing what he was sent to do. • 10. Literary Devices In The Great Gatsby In this excerpt from The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, there are many literary devices that assist the audience in understanding the narrator, Nick Carraway, and his view of the Valley of Ashes. The word choice and details used throughout the passage greatly succeed at making the Valley it s own, distinguishable land. In addition, Fitzgerald uses figurative language like metaphors to give the reader a better understanding of the the depressing and dreary setting. Without the use of these devices, Fitzgerald might not have been able to develop this recurring setting in the novel. One of the ways Fitzgerald manages to flesh out the scenery is through the use of diction. Diction is the word choice and the connotation of the words that are seen in the text. There is a great example of diction in the fourth sentence of the first paragraph, where the narrator Nick Carraway uses words like bleak, spasms, and the phrase drift endlessly to describe the Valley of Ashes. These words typically have a negative or demoralizing connotation, which perfectly portrays how the characters feel about the Valley and how Fitzgerald wants the audience to perceive the Valley. The specific word choice reinforces the idea that people that live within the Valley feel stuck, and that being there for such a long amount of time has made them lose hope that one day they would be among the debutantes of the East and West Egg. In the same fashion, Fitzgerald develops the Valley of Ashes through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some say that it works while others go to prison or jail for crimes that they didn t commit. In this paper I will be covering specific examples from the book, The Innocent Man, where the defendant s rights were violated. John Grisham talks about innocent men being innocent and convicted for murder and sent to unlawful court proceedings. In this paper I will be focusing mainly on the violations of his 6th amendment. On this videotape there was a full confession from Ricky Simmons. Barney Ward knew all about this videotape (as it was shared with him along with all other information) yet he chose not to bring this evidence to the table and share it with the jury. Judge Jones ruled that the tape was not a Brady violation. The tape was not really hidden; it was handed over after the trial, sort of a delayed submission (Grisham pg. 258) .This one piece of evidence alone would have been enough to change the opinions of the jury and change the outcome of the trail. However because Barney Ward did NOT show this video, this is a clear violation of Mr. Williamson s 6th Amendment, which guarantees that in all criminal prosecutions there must be an effective assistance of counsel (Cole and Smith pg. 84). In my opinion at no point in this trial was Ron Williamson s attorney an effective assistance of counsel . Now the last example of how Ron Williamson s 6th Amendment was violated was as the very beginning of all this. During the investigation of the crime scene, the police conducting the search had found two hair samples. There was no proof that either of these belonged to Mr. Williamson, however they still claimed that it had come from the scalp of Mr. Williamson. • 14. Essay Shakespeare s Sonnet 18 During the Renaissance period, most poets were writing love poems about their lovers/mistresses. The poets of this time often compared love to high, unrealistic, and unattainable beauty. Shakespeare, in his sonnet 18, continues the tradition of his time by comparing the speakers love/mistress to the summer time of the year. It is during this time of the year that the flowers and the nature that surround them are at there peak for beauty. The theme of the poem is to show the speakers true interpretation of beauty. Beauties worst enemy is time and although beauty might fade it can still live on through a person s memory or words of a poem. Shakespeare uses two powerful metaphors in line five and in line six to compare the summer s imperfections to the perfection of the beloved. In line five he uses a metaphor Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines to describe that in the summer the sun gets to hot and this is yet another imperfection of a summer day which the beloved is superior to. Although some may compare there beloveds eyes with the glow or beauty of the eye of heaven here the speaker has chosen to claim the opposite saying that the sun is inferior to his beloved in that her eyes are more beautiful. In line six of the poem the idea of the sun being imperfect is further enhanced by phrase gold complexion dimmed this is implying that the sun is imperfect in that it is not always hot enough. Here the speaker implies that the beloved is flawless in that her complexion is never changed, remaining gold like. Nature that surrounds us is beautiful, the trees, ocean, and the wild life, and although the speaker makes a point to disfigure the view of nature the intention of the poet is to reinforce the beauty of the beloved. In line nine thy eternal summer shall not fade is an allusion to the beloved staying young and beautiful for eternity. This line is referring to the season changing from summer to winter, this means that the beauty is temporary and fades over a short period of time. The beloved on the other hand is ... Analysis of Frankenstein From Shelley s Novel to Branagh s Film Branagh s adaptation of Mary Shelly s novel was fairly good with significant changes to Shelly s text; however this was done to illuminate what he considers to be the major themes of the novel, eg the dangers of the relentless pursuit of science and Victor s relationships. Victors love interest with Elizabeth in the film is much more intense compared to what is described in the novel as communication is mostly through letters, whereas in the film Branagh has Elizabeth follow him left, right and centre, she even comes to his sick bed after the creation. Branagh showed the misery of the monster, especially when it was rejected by the De Lacy family but I think Branagh was very much one sided on where our sympathies should lie and this was clearly directed towards Victor, this maybe because Branagh is the director as well as Victor. I think Branagh should have portrayed one aspect of the book in more detail and that is the eloquence of the creature. Having Clerval stay alive also seems to serve a purpose, this meant they Victors conscience was there to observe what he did to Elizabeth. The And Disease Of The Roman Empire Throughout history the human race has been faced with one key factor that no one civilization has even been able to beat, not the might of the Roman Byzantine Empire, nor the combined efforts of the entirety of Europe and their scholars could defeat this recurring foe. Pandemics, from the Greek pan meaning all, and demos meaning people (Harper Etymonline.com), are these indiscriminate killers whom care not for your social standing be it wealth, fame, or glory. Humans have contested with disease ever since the infantile stages of the species, but the ability of it to spread was severely inhibited by the fact that humans stayed in small groups of 10 30 people at most, giving the virus or disease severely hampered virulence. It was not till humans began gathering in larger, more permanent settlements such as the early Classical cities of Athens, Ramses, and Rome, that the issue of sanitation and disease came into effect. This has not to say that our issues with sanitation and disease prevention have stopped, rather have they been brought forward into the limelight, many nations around the world today have issues with age old diseases and give rise to extremely deadly new viruses of their own. Bierce needs Morgan s character to illustrate the presence of a mysterious creature. Through Morgan s reaction and Harker s witness to the strange circumstances, Bierce makes the characters reliable. If the story was based solely off of Morgan s journal, the reader would chalk it up to Morgan going mad. Likewise, if the recount was solely based off of Harker s testimony, the reader would be inclined to believe he had gone mad. There is no reason it should not. The idea of entering a good career, having a family, and buying a house is, in a word, ideal to most people. However, as life has carried on, more and more people have come to believe that the American Dream is simply impossible. Even the famous writers F. Scott Fitzgerald and Arthur Miller argued in their respective works The Great Gatsby and All My Sons that the American Dream is just a figment of hope and imagination. This belief is becoming prominent in Millennials. After the Great Recession and numerous economic fluxes, Millenials appear to have lost interest in the American Dream, particularly in owning a home. While the American Dream is beautiful and quaint, the current economy, work force, and fundamental values surrounding it cause Millennials to cement it in a coffin as just that: a dream with a different and possibly brighter reality. Split into five parts, the story flashes back and forth between Emily s funeral and memories of Emily from the viewpoint of the unknown narrator. The narrator remembers times when Emily refused to pay taxes, and another time when men went and put lime on Emily s yard because her house smelled so awful. When Emily s father died, it took three days for her to stop denying his death and let him be buried. The summer after her father s death, A Yankee named Homer Barron started seeing Emily, which was a big deal because her father had never let her date. One day, Emily went to a druggist and bought arsenic with no explanation, and the town thought she was going to kill herself. However, she did not, and the townspeople even assumed she and Homer got married, but they never saw him again. It was not until Emily died, and they felt enough time had passed, that the people broke down one of her doors that had been unopened for forty years. They found the decaying body of Homer Barron laying in the bed, along with a strand of Emily s gray hair on the pillow beside him. • 29. The Wreck Essay Imagine feeling most of the bones in your torso breaking with a dry, ragged, SNAP while the sinew connecting them is torn apart with a terrible POP! Imagine the pain while bleeding internally for hours, lying in a twisted metal coffin. You have to assume that help will not arrive in time to save your life. Now imagine, what would you do? I was excited when, in the middle of Fall, which is also fishing season, my cousin Jerad asked me if I would like to go fishing with him and his brother Justin. I quickly replied that I would, and when Jerad came to pick me up the three of us piled into his little Dodge pick up and headed for Cow Camp. Cow Camp is where our Grandpa grew up. His dad homesteaded about forty acres on the North Slope of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We got to the one lane bridge slowed and crossed it then sped up as we approached the hill after it. The hill is pretty bad because the road curves sharply to the right going up and the angle of the road slants the wrong way. Also, there are steep cliffs on both sides of the road. We started up the hill fine; made it to the curve, then in the middle of the curve we hit the grader bump that marked the end of road maintenance. Jerad couldn t quite keep control of the light truck and we went into a slide. We slid into the left lane sideways then the tires caught for a second and we were propelled back into the right lane headed right for the cliff s edge. I think we would have all just died from fright long before the truck reached the cliff bottom, but Jerad had the wheel spun hard to the left. Right before we reached the edge of the cliff, the tires caught again and we were suddenly not looking out into space any longer. Instead, we were gaping 180 degrees in the other direction at the side of a very, very steep hill. We didn t have any luck with the tires this time, and we hit the hill hard at probably 25 or 30 Mph. Suprisingly the little truck had its own ideas about smashing into a hill and instead decided to climb it. We hit the hill kind of at an angle and the truck lurched, popped, and went right up the hill at a fairly steep angle. Just as the truck started to roll and the uphill tires ... • 30. Aviation And Air Pollution Air pollution has been a severe challenge to fuel consuming industries (Wang Hao 2012). Stringent measures are to be implemented to reduce the effects of carbon emission to the environment. The WHO (2011) has acknowledged the noise environmental impact as a serious burden of disease, and recent contemporary studies have recognized a link between aviation noise and cardiovascular disease (Hnasel 2013). Limited Airspace and Airports Capacities Busy airports have sometimes had to keep aircrafts in the air in wait to land due to the lack of space and inefficient planning on arrivals and departures. This causes an increase in costs of fuel and other harmful effects. The capacity of runways, reception by taxis and the whole port should be increased to allow a smooth flow of activities. The arrival and departure routes can be separate to facilitate a continuous landing and ascent. Technology Over 60% of airlines have a strategic plan on how to improve their technique, some with programs underway. An advance in technology in the industry means easy handling of clients and better service provision (Lovelock 2011). Efficiency will be high, easy booking of tickets, fast and sophisticated security checks, reduced paper works and proper communication among others. The right technology will be an essential tool in the performance of this industry. Economic Impact of Aviation The expansion of airports and reinforcement of the growth of aviation is evidenced on economic attaining ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Canadian Governing System is not Fair or Democratic... There are Canadian citizens who thought that the Canadian government we have is perfect, citizens who believed that every aspect of the government was truly democratic, and citizens who believe that government could do no wrong. Truly this group of believers has been living a lie. In our Canadian system of government, large aspects within are far from democratic and need to be changed. Liberal minded people will cry out for a change in order for government to serve the people better, and on the other hand the more conservative thinkers will argue that no change is needed because our government is efficient and considerate. However, our voting system, our Senate, and the power vested to the Prime Minister are far from democratic, do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was obvious that he would make votes in favour of Chretien s aims. However, even with his appointed position he only very rarely showed up for work, ignoring his basic obligations as Senator. Even when the whole of the government was in outrage at this incompetence, they could not legally kick him out of office. There will inevitably be more incidents like these unless the Senate is reformed. Thankfully, there are several possible ways to reform the Senate as to make it a more democratic institute. The Senate, undemocratic as it is, obviously needs some tweaks and changes in the system to make it more so. The Canadian Senate should reform entirely into a triple E Senate (Elected, Efficient, Equal). In the Triple E Senate, Senators should be elected by the voters instead of appointed, the efficient distribution of power towards the Senate to balance out the power. This would create a more democratic and fairer Senate that would better serve the needs of the citizens it represents. While the Triple E Senate may not get things done nearly as quickly as the current Senate, it would at least make the right decisions for everyone. While the Senate is a major blight upon Canadian government, it is not the only one. The Canadian Prime Minister presents the illusion that this so called democratic Canada is run by the will of the people and attempts to maintain this image, yet the truth is that the power stays ... • 32. Gardner-Webb University Student Analysis Financial assistance is needed to help me meet my short and long term educational goals. At this time, Gardner Webb University is my college choice. Gardner Webb is a private school that better meets my learning style, as opposed to a larger state university. I feel that this college is the right match for me and will provide better opportunities to get involved and fulfil my spiritual needs as well. My involvement with sports, clubs, and summer camps has prevented me from working part time throughout high school except for the payment I receive for one week of camp during the summer. I also chose to take more challenging classes which required more time for studying. Therefore hindering me from contributing to my educational fund. For the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. White Chicks Cultural Context Meagan Gosney Theological Foundations Dr. Mescher 17 October 2014 Theological Cultural Context Essay White Chicks the movie is a true example of popular culture that speaks to reflective and elusive topics involving race. White Chicks functions as a remarkable norm in terms of white privilege and the exploration of power. There was something about the messages and references in White Chicks that I just could not resist. White Chicks exposes Kevin and Marcus, partners in the FBI, men disguised as women to present a crucial discovery of race relations in modern times. The men are assigned to protect the prominently blonde and rich Wilson sisters, Brittany and Tiffany. After a minor car accident they end up impersonating them instead. Following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... White Chicks uses the body, the concept of black body in white body to convey humor and parody in intricate ways. Where the men masked as white women, attain a position of supremacy. In many cases, it is my opinion that whites simply do not perceive themselves as raced or marked. Regardless of the power, respect, and status that accompany the job of being and FBI agent, the film shines light on the race that marks them in an almost anonymous and invisible sense. For example, when they are sent to escort Brittany and Tiffany Wilson from the airport, Kevin and Marcus are reduced to stereotypes. As they greet the sister, Brittany says, We already gave to the United Negro fund (12: 25 28). Even in their initial attempt to explain that they are FBI agents, the sisters declare there is no need for communication, they have been assigned a meaning. As Kevin and Marcus clarify their purpose for being there, the sisters then immediately refer to them as chauffeurs, considering them subordinate. The Agents new mission is to carry the luggage and pack the car, Marcus is even forced to sit in the back of the car with the luggage, to make enough room for the dog. Inferring that the dog is more important. Baby got to ride in the car seat (12:50 53).This scene even alludes to American History when blacks were forced to sit in the back of a bus, affirming the idea that the dog trumps Marcus. Brittany and Tiffany are attesting to white privilege, being conceited and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
