Essay on The Turn of the Screw by Henry James
How far does The Turn of the Screw conform to the conventions of the
Victorian ghost story genre? What alternative interpretations does it lend itself to?
The Turn of the Screw was written by Henry James in the nineteenth century, when the belief that
living people were in contact with the dead was prevalent. In the Victorian era the advance of science
was undermining religious beliefs, because evolutionists were saying that the world had not been
created in 4004BC, as the bible suggests.
Therefore, the possibility of contacting the spirits restored some faith in the non material world. The
era it was written in does suggest that The Turn of the Screw is merely a classic ghost story, but Henry
James has integrated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the reader then discovers that the manuscript is kept in a locked drawer and has not been out for
years due to the dreadful dreadfulness! of the tale, the mysterious atmosphere is strengthened. It is at
this point in the novel that
Henry James ensures that the reader will finish reading the book, because they will want to know what
the Governess is hiding and why.
One of the obvious reasons for this, to the reader, is that the
Governess did not want anyone to hear her story due to it s hard hitting content. This reason is made
apparent to the reader from the metaphor Turn of the Screw , which gives the impression that the story
will have a deep emotional impact on them like a screw being forced into a wall. Adding a particular
touch to the story are the two children, who give the effect of two turns . This shows the reader that
the story will have a deeper impact on them than they originally thought, because the depth of the
screw is dictated by the amount of turns forced upon it and also represents the impression made on the
reader. Consequently, if the screw is turned twice then the story will have twice the impact. Douglas
wincing grimace at the thought of the story supports the reader s assumption that The Turn of the
Screw is a horrific ghost story, but nothing more psychological than that. However, alternative
interpretations suggest that the prologue is used

Academic Advisor Assignment
Academic advising is an important and effective tool used by 2 year and 4 year institutions. With
academic advising comes a huge responsibility to lead students on a path for success. To advise
effectively, advisors must have institutional knowledge (rules and regulations, academic policies,
majors, minors, certificate programs) and an understanding of the students they will advise including
knowledge of any special population groups. (Folsom, Joslin, Yoder, 2005) To gain better knowledge
of academic advising I interviewed Crystal, an academic advisor from the Archer College of Health
and Human Services on the Angelo State University campus. She has her M. Ed. in Student
Development and Leadership and has been an academic advisor for 4 ... Show more content on

The question was posed; discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly about being an advisor? Crystal
replied by stating she enjoys helping students reach their potential but it can be difficult explaining to
a student about realistic expectations when it comes to getting into the nursing program. The hardest
part though for her is helping students cope with and find resources to overcome dangerous and scary
situations. She sometimes has students come to her office and make statements of suicidal thoughts or
have personal situations that are putting them at risk. When this happens she has to refer them to the
appropriate office/resource but students aren t always receptive to her advice. When I asked her what
the most difficult part of being an advisor was, Crystal stated that getting the at risk students back on
track to complete their degree was the most difficult part of being an Academic Advisor. Academic
Advisors are under a lot of pressure to ensure students are meeting their degree requirements in a
timely manner. (Crystal, personal communication, October 28, 2015) Retention and graduation rates
are associated with successful advising practices. I then asked Crystal if the students she advises are
always receptive to the advice she offers. She stated that most students are receptive to my advice, but
there are situation when students are considered to be foreclosed , meaning the

with their previous experience, ideas, and resources they landed on the idea of serving the niche
market of healthcare software. They felt that this industry was underserved, especially in small and
medium sized medical facilities. Prior to the emergence of our software, medical providers were going
to great lengths to house medical records that quickly became very expensive. Patients were frustrated

The Significance of Xenia in Homer’s The Odyssey
Kaitlyn Lambert
MR. Bovaird
Honors English 9
23 May 2010
The Significance of Xenia in Homer s Odyssey The society of Ancient Greece was very much
centered around the gods, and a healthy fear of the consequences of not obeying their laws. The next
most important staples of the society were the concepts of braver, pride, and hospitality, or Xenia. The
significance of these values is shown quite clearly in The Odyssey of Homer.
In the first five books of the epic, Telemachos is shown great hospitality by the kings, Nestor, and
Menelaos. As Homer writes in description of Nestor s reception of Telemachos and Athena, These
men, when they sighted the strangers, all came down together and gave them greeting with their hands
and offered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Homer.9.289 2910 This is one example of the brutality that Odysseus and his crew were also shown,
rather than hospitality. The range of degrees of hospitality shown to the travelers is a testament to the
number of people who ignored the law of Xenia.
The hospitality that Telemachos and Penelope show Odysseus when he returns home, even though
they do not know who he really is yet another example of xenia. This hospitality helps in his winning
his home back from the suitors. Telemachos welcomes Odysseus into the house, and gives him
permission to beg the suitors of money. Despite knowing this, said suitors harass him when he asks for
coins. In response to this, Telemachos says , There will be no pleasure in this feast, at all since vile
things will be uppermost. Now the hallowed prince Telemachos spoken [...] I drive away no man.
Telemachos s defense of Odysseus, even in guise of a vagabond, shows great grace on his part, and
show great hospitality, on top of undermining the suitors, thus giving them less power. After the
suitors have gone home, Penelope summons her maidservant, saying , Eurynome, bring up a chair, and
put a fleece on it, so that the stranger can be seated, and tell me his story, and listen to what I have to
say. (Homer.18.97 99) This statement shows that Penelope is intending t make a beggar as comfortable

Laminar Flow and Convective Heat Transfer of Water-Alumina...
Laminar flow and convective heat transfer of water/alumina nanofluid inside horizontal annuli with a
streamwise moving inner cylinder are investigated theoretically. Employed model for alumina/water
nanofluid is the modified two component four equation non homogeneous equilibrium model that
fully accounts for the effects of nanoparticles volume fraction distribution. Aiming to consider the
effects of thermal boundary conditions on nanoparticles migration, two cases including constant heat
flux at the outer wall and insulated inner wall (Case A) and constant heat flux at the inner wall with
insulated outer wall (Case B) have been considered. The numerical results obtained indicated that the
thermal boundary conditions at the pipe walls are significantly affecting the nanoparticle volume
fraction distribution particularly in the cases where the ratio of Brownian motion to thermophoretic
diffusivities is small. Moreover, increasing the velocity of the moving inner cylinder reduce the heat
transfer rate for case A. In this case nanoparticles migration has negative effects on the performance of
the heat transfer system as it decreases the heat transfer rate. In contrast, in case B, movement of the
inner cylinder enhance the heat transfer rate and anomalous heat transfer enhancement take place
when the thermophoretic force is dominant (larger nanoparticles).
Nanoparticles volume fraction distribution developed under the mutual effects of thermophoretic and
Brownian motion forces.

Essay On Telehealth
Telemedicine the remote to diagnosis and treatment of patients by means of telecommunications
technology.
Telehealth is a collection of means or methods for enchancing health care, public health, and health
education delievery and support using telecommunications technologies.
There is a broad area of difference between the two of these things, telemedicine is more of refering to
clinical services , but telehealth refers more to non clinical services such as provider training . Also
telehealth uses more of electronical services as telemedicine does not . Telemedicine is supportive of
long distance clinical services. Telehealth is a user of a more broader remote health care services .

Native American Settlers Analysis
Long before the Europeans traveled to North America, the Native Americans were the first ones who
technically were the owners of Vermont. Some of these Native American tribes, including the Iroquois
(Mohawks) and Abenaki, inhabited Vermont while Samuel de Champlain arrived. Champlain was a
Frenchman who was also the first European to come into contact with the Natives in Vermont. In
1609, after exploring the land, he claimed it as French property and decided to war against the Natives
for the land. Champlain befriended Canadian tribes and although the language barrier prevented them
from communicating, they had a common goal: to push the Mohawks towards the northeast. In July of
1609, Champlain and his Algonquian allies met with the Mohawks

Comparing The Elves And The Invisible Clothing
If you ask a child in America about The Elves and the Shoemaker, The Little Red Hen, Little Red
Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Beds, or The Emperor s New Clothes, they would be able to
recount the story without much trouble, as these are simple stories with entertaining hijacks. These are
folklores that are read aloud in a kindergarten class, or for bedtime stories, yet not animated like
Cinderella, or Sleeping Beauty. These stories are even referenced in television series, such as Super
Why!, a children s series about altering books to end up with a better outcome. Some of these stories
were developed in other regions, and they are altered to fit with the community s values and thoughts,
and this can be seen when comparing The Emperor s New Clothes by Hans Christian Andersen with
The Invisible Cloth by Don Juan Manuel.

Great Britian, for example, it remained on the bestsellers list for many months and was selected as the
British Book Society Top Book of the Year. In addition to this, To Kill a Mockingbird has been
translated into several foreign languages [3].
Over the years, Harper Lee has received several awards for her writing abilities. In 1966, President
Lyndon B. Johnson appointed Lee to the National Council of Arts [1]. In 1990, she received an
honorary doctorate from the University of Alabama. Seven years later, Spring Hill College in Mobile,
Alabama, awarded Lee with an honorary doctorate of human letters for her lyrical elegance, her

Comparing Britta And Vig On The Gate Into The Citadel
Britta and Vig looked toward the gate into the Citadel. The flags over the walls sank to half mast, and
the lines going into the city grew longer, extending across the bridge into the hamlet. What is
happening? Vig wondered aloud. A bearded merchant turned in his saddle, The guards have been
ordered to search everyone entering the city. Not sure why. Vig stared for a moment before whispering
to Britta, This does not seem right to me. Me either, Britta agreed. She glanced around. Wait! We have
an option. Follow me. Wheeling their horses around, they rode back a short distance, before veering
off into a narrow street fronted by several boarded up store fronts. In front of one, bearing an
extremely weathered signboard, she yanked the reins and dismounted. Vig joined her. She tried the
front door, but it was locked. Slipping around the side, she tried another door, but it too was
inaccessible. We need to get inside. Let me try, Vig offered, then kicked the door with his boot, it
shuddered, then swung open. Impressive, Britta said. Big feet, Vig rejoined. One of the advantages of
being a dwarf. Inside, they found darkness and cobwebs. Britta found an old lamp with some oil in it
and using her flint and steel, managed to get it lit. But even with the lamp light, the interior still looked
like a cave. Britta surveyed the floor and tapped it with her foot. Vig watched her. What are you

Ritual Dances By Lucile Armstrong
When thinking of dance, most people think about ballet such as The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, or even
Beauty and the Beast. Dance first started out as a ritual. According to HistoryWorld In most ancient
civilization, dance before the god is an important element in the temple ritual . Ritual dancing bring
men as they celebrate their necessities. These necessities include food, shelter, safety, and surviving
natural disasters. These ritual dances brought the communities together to celebrate their
accomplishments. According to Lucile Armstrong writer of Ritual dances states that The first section
of will deal with ritual dances not using sticks or swords necessarily, but with similar intent. The
second will describe some stick dances. The third section will refer to sword dances, or dances
connected with swords . It is stated that the stick dance is done in the early mornings before most
people are awake. This dance can also be performed in the evening of the 21st and on the eve of the
great day.
There are about ten rituals that are still being performed today. The first dance that is still performed
today is called the Cannibalism and Necrophagy. This ritual dance is found from the city of Varanasi,
India. This dance is about eating the dead, it believed that the greatest fear humans beings have is the
fear of their own deaths. The Indians say that this fear is a barrier to spiritual enlightenment. The
second ritual is the sun dance this is performed by the Native Americans.

Motel Chronicles Sam Shepard Analysis
Motel Chronicles Sam Shepard left his wife and child because he fell desperately in love with Jessica
Lange. Later on in the story we start to see the pain it caused Olan and Jessica in Shepard and Dark,
when Dark talks about how things were at the house when Shepard left. Without a doubt, it is
definitely upsetting and painful that your husband or father leaves you suddenly. Shepard also
experienced a great deal of pain himself, during the process of wondering if he should leave or not.
This tore Shepard up inside. It was like an internal play between two choices of action seen in
Shepard. Knowing the internal struggle he was going through, he sees how this really affected him.

because it hits you with an immediate image and emotional response; Shepard also compares it to

be more powerful than what language could do. Shepard didn t have a good relationship with his
father. He hated his father, and hated when people would compare him with his father. His father was

Pandora originally started with a subcription type of business model wherein users must pay $36 per

type. What happened was after the free trial of 10 hours was used up, the customers were unwilling to

3. Why did MailChimp ultimately succeed with a freemium model but Ning did not?
MailChimp succeeded with its freemium model because it started with offering free basic tools for the
users and gave them the option to upgrade their account for a subscription fee in order to access the
special features that MailChimp provides. As the user s email list grew, people now are more likely to
subscribe to MailChimp in order to access the special features which offered the ability to send more
emails to more people and the ability to use the feature that provides sophisticated analytics to help the
users to target their market more efficiently and effectively.
Ning did not succeed with the freemium model because a number of the users did not need the special
features offered by the company. Ning is a company that enables its users to create their own social
networks. The problem is that not everyone needs to start their own social networking sites.
4. What s the most important consideration when considering a freemium revenue model?
The large potential audience is the most important consideration when considering a freemium
revenue model. In order for a business to grow, it should attract as many people as possible. These
users will later on be the ones that will pay for the services the business offers. In order to attract
customers, the service that the business

The Negative Effects Of Violence In Television And Mass...
With 59 dead and 527 injured, the Las Vegas shooting earlier this month was one of the deadliest mass
shootings in American history. With no immediately apparent motive, it begs the question in people as
to what might possess a person to go out and commit such a heinous crime. Indeed, the question has
dogged the American populace ever since the invention of the modern mass shooting, and even before,
attached to other senseless violent atrocities. Human brains are wired to look for causality in
meaningless events as a survival mechanism, so they have a tendency to find it in places where it
actually never existed in the first place. This is why violence in television and video games has come
under fire in recent years as their influence expands, despite evidence that such phony violence does
not beget real violence and may, in fact, be beneficial to a person s well being.
Firstly, it should be noted that the studies people often cite when attempting to prove media violence
has negative effects on behavior are flawed and inconsistent. In a review of publications on the subject
conducted by psychologist Jonathan L. Freedman, he found that of the 2,500 publications, there were
only 200 pieces of non duplicated research among them, stemming from places of varying scientific
legitimacy. The ways in which many of these studies are conducted can lead to skewed results in favor
of the hypothesis the researchers want to prove. When studying how violent media consumption

There are several business organizations operating around the world, competition is at its peak,
products and services offered are so closely similar that identifying the difference between them is
difficult, but there is only one way differentiation is made in today s market, in the larger prospective,
and that differentiation is the difference in quality offered. Ali et al., (2010) points, out that the
properties of a service or product that the buyer or user purchases and the value given to it by them is
the quality of that product or service. Koch (2003) suggests that quality is a process of developing a
product or service, building relationship through assessment, anticipation and the fulfillment of the
stakeholders implied needs. It is here where the real market is, real competition, customers, profits,
market share and success lies. Organizations that deliver quality are always desired by their customers.

Budget cuts in emergency services research paper Budget cuts have become prevalent in today s
society. More so in recent years inside of emergency services where until recently have been immune.
Governments have withheld from cutting because the 9/11 terrorist attacks placed these services on a
pedestal. This has caused a huge rise in cuts to many services. It also hits harder in cities that are
already inside of a budget crisis. Budget cuts should be prevented and avoided in emergency services.
In recent years funding for emergency services have been on a steady decline since the 9/11 terror

Many do not know of the budget crisis going on but those that do recognize it is a major issue. These
citizens that understand what is going of have begun to protest because their safety is at risk. The cuts
that have been going on reduce the size of the police force which in turn brings crime rates up, and
also fire departments have fewer men and unmaintained equipment to help rescue civilians. This
scares many citizens into either moving to a city with a better emergency service budget or protesting
to get their city s budget raised. I pray that nobody in this room needs the police or fire in their new

All Human Beings Possess A Basic Understanding Of Love
All human beings possess a basic understanding of love and are able to express love through
verbalizations, emotions, gestures, or other acts of kindness; however, the condition of the human
heart is tainted by sin and so is love in terms of humanity. Thus, human beings are unable to
understand and comprehend love s truest form which is found in the embodiment God s being. God s
love is communicated to mankind through the covenants, the wonders of creation, the personhood of
Jesus Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit who subsequently seals God s offer of salvation through
the atoning death of Jesus Christ. Furthermore, those whom God allows Himself to be known can also

Hence, with all the confusion and mystery that surrounds the Trinity, it becomes difficult to
understand how each member of the Trinity shares in the attribute of God s love.
Without the Trinity, human beings cannot appreciate the attribute of God s love. Thus, God reveals His
attribute of love through Jesus Christ (John 3:16) while Jesus displays the attribute of God s love
through the crucifixion (John 15:13), and the Holy Spirit makes the attribute known through the
regeneration (Titus 3:5) of the believer (Dockery, 1992). Furthermore, love itself is in triunity; hence,
there must be the lover, the love, and the loved (Conner, 1980, p. 53). In the Godhead, the attribute of
God s love finds a perfect expression (Matthew 3:16; John 14:31) in the triunity of the Father who is
the lover, the Son who is the loved, and the Holy Spirit who is love (Conner, 1980, p. 53). Thus, the
Father who so loved (John 3:16) gave the Son his love (Colossians 1:13) and the love of the Spirit
(Romans 15:30; Galatians 5:22) which is expressed to mankind not only in creation but in redemption
where the invisible is made visible (Conner, 1980).
Adding to the complexity of God s love is the fact that the attribute of God s love is not easily seen in
the Holy Spirit as the Holy Spirit never truly reveals Himself to human consciousness; hence, the

Film Review of Blades of Glory Essay
Blades of Glory, directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, is a hilarious comedy that turns figure
skating into one big joke. This movie was so over the top, it was over over the top, but it kept the
whole theater laughing throughout the entire movie, which is exactly what it was made to do. The
movie s plot is not very intricate, but it really doesn t need to be. It s about 2 Men s Singles Figure
Skaters that are the complete opposites of each other. Chazz Michael Michaels (Will Ferrell) is the
notorious bad boy in figure skating, he s very sexual and all the ladies swoon over him. Jimmy
MacElroy (Jon Heder) is the good boy that pays attention to technical detail and precision. These two
skaters compete against each other and end up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They fight again and both get arrested. Jimmy s former coach (Craig T. Nelson) ends up getting them
out of jail and recommends they be partners. Both say no at first, but they end up doing it, bickering
and fighting the entire time. They sign up for the Olympic try out, which causes a stir in all the news
and gets under the skin of the main Doubles Skaters, Stranz and Fairchild Van Waldenberg (Will
Arnett and Amy Poehler). Both Doubles teams make it to the Olympics, and the Van Waldenberg s do
everything in their power to ensure they come out with the Gold Medal. They cheat, spy, and try to
harm Chazz and Jimmy, but are unsuccessful. Chazz and Jimmy make it in times to skate during their
turn, and perform stunts that have never been done successfully before. They end up winning the Gold
Medal and the Van Waldenberg s end up getting arrested. As mentioned before, the plot is not very
intricate. And you basically know the ending of the film before it even starts. But it doesn t matter
because everything that happens in the movie is just so funny. For example, seeing Will Ferrell on ice
skates and thought of as a sex symbol was hilarious on its own because its so ridiculous. But then
having Craig T. Nelson playing a character simply called Coach , Jimmy having a gay stalker that says
he will kill Jimmy one day to his face, a former professional ice skater, Scott Hamilton, actually acting

Essay On Surgical Site Infections
SURGICAL SITE INFECTION PREVENTION GUIDELINE
Surgical site infections (SSIs) impose a significant economic and clinical burden. SSI is a common but
severe operative complication that happens to about 2 5% of patients undergoing surgery (Anderson et
al., 2014). The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA), through the help of various
organizations, has issued special guidelines to prevent SSIs. In this paper the author aims to (a)
discuss SSI, a health care problem in pediatric perioperative patients, and evaluate the current policy
on its prevention; (b) use the population, intervention, comparison, outcomes (PICO) format to answer
a clinical question related to SSI; (c) evaluate the author s chosen practice guideline with ... Show

The intervention will not include pediatric patients who will have an emergency surgery (i.e. Level 1
Trauma, potential for loss of limb/senses/function), these cases will not allow enough time to screen
and treat nasal carriers before surgery.
Intervention
SHEA released an updated guideline on SSI prevention that includes several recommendations not
found on CHOG s policy. The first recommended intervention is to screen and identify all surgical
patients who are S. aureus nasal carriers. According to Barnard (2002), studies have shown that most
SSIs are caused by the patient s endogenous infection (own bacterial flora) of which, 20% is caused
by S. aureus strain. According to Van Rijen, Bode, Baak, Kluytmans, and Vos (2012), about 20 50% of
the population are S. aureus nasal carriers. Moreover, Van Rijen et al. (2012) adds that S. aureus nasal
carriage is now considered a predisposing factor for future infections in different patient populations
(i.e. dialysis patients, patients with intravascular devices, surgical patients, and patients who are
admitted to the intensive care unit [ICU]).
The second recommended intervention is to decolonize patients who are confirmed S. aureus nasal
carriers by treating them with intranasal mupirocin, an antimicrobial drug, and bathing with
chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) soap, an

EXAMINING NATIONAL IDENTITY
Research Question:
How do sociological and psychological needs affect form, national identity, and concept in the
contemporary world? What is the importance of cultural identity? And why is it important? These are
a few question I would answer in the following study. The objective is to understand the early or
modern concepts representing cultural or national uniqueness. This research proposes, the designs and
concepts to be crafted more than being engineered (Norman D, 1990), so that every culture is unique
in itself, and analysing Australian national identity in connection with globalization, culture, art, and

Summary Of The Mower Against Garden
In The Mower Against Gardens, Andrew Marvell uses a conceit to liken the plants in an English
garden to the women of a brothel, exemplifying the theme of man s perversion of nature. Three main
metaphors are used, the first being mankind as the brothel owner. The second metaphor is the flowers
as prostitutes, and the final metaphor is the flowers offspring as abandoned children. Marvell begins
the conceit by introducing mankind as the instigator of corruption. Luxurious man, to bring his vice in
use, / Did after him the world seduce (1 2). The use of the word man, instead of mankind, begins the
characterization of the male, or the patriarchy as the owner of the brothel, as well as the patrons that
keep it in business. Additionally, the speaker uses very charged, sexual language, such as vice and
seduction to describe how humans are enchanted by nature s beauty. At the time of writing, in 16th
century England, the act of a man visiting a brothel would have been considered a vice, or something
that generally considered sinful or negative. However, the act is nonetheless accepted by society as
something normal.
The speaker then introduces nature as a female entity, which coincides with the perception of Mother
Nature. as a female entity. And from the fields the flowers and plants allure, / Where nature was most
plain and pure (3 4). The words plain and pure imply that nature, in its original, untouched state, has a
sort of purity associated with a virgin maiden. Before coming into contact with man, nature has a
pristine and naïve characteristic. However, that will change as soon after man establishes a position of
power over nature. Mankind traps nature within the gardens square (5), and he begins to change the
plants, presumably by grafting them together or selectively breeding them to produce more desirable
and colorful traits. This Garden square, with its dead and standing pool of air (6). could be interpreted
as the cramped interior of the brothel where the women are forced to work, with four walls trapping
them on every side. Later in the poem, too, the garden is referred to as a green seraglio (27). A seraglio
is the women s apartment area of an Ottoman palace. This was an

A Study On A Patient On The Room Out Of The Window
Another Patient Jumped Out Of the Window. I put down the newspaper and uneasily glanced at the
patient resting by my side for whose comfort I was responsible. It was the winter of my junior year,
my second week working in a state controlled Chinese hospital. On the first day, without going
through any training, I met Yuping, a sixty year old pancreas cancer victim and also a mother of six.
Estranged from her family due to high medical expenditure, none of her children had shown up in
days; I filled their roles. I fed her, took her out for some fresh air and tried to chat with her, but she
rarely talked. She spent her time staring at the plain ceiling and listening the anxious voices from the
hallway. Sitting at her bedside and thinking about that disturbing news headline, I began to experience
a sense of desperation. I was sickened by the emotional neglect that Yuping experienced, but no matter
how I tried, I could not reach into the heart of this suffering lady. This was the dark side of medicine
that I had never seen before. Right then, I questioned myself, Do I really want to be a doctor? At the
beginning of my college career, this was not even a question that I thought I would ask myself.
Fascinated by the endless possibility provided by programming skill and the beauty of numbers, I
majored in Computer Science and Math. And I greatly enjoy the intellectual challenges posed by both
fields. It was not until joining Dr. YYY s lab in the summer of my sophomore year,

What Is A Non-Traditional Family
With our rapid and perpetually changing society, we find that with time everything changes. Many of
these changes include: fashion, trends, communication, technology, and also family. It may seem as if
family does not have the ability to change, but recent studies suggest otherwise. A family, according to
the Merriam Webster dictionary, is a group of individuals living under one roof and usually under one
head. This definition still holds true today; however, the parameters seem to be blurred due to rapid
changes in our society. Since the mid 1900s researchers have been seeing a trend in that our idea of a
family has been changing. With recent events such as the legalization of gay marriage, the term family
seems to be evolving. Traditionally, a family is associated with: a father, who is the bread winner; a
mother, who is the the caretaker for the family; and the children of the mother and father. ... Show

I was raised in a nontraditional family, where my mother was everything due to her single parent
status, so I understand how the word family can be vague. Anything can be apart of one s family:
blood relatives, friends, and even pets. I, personally, think that family is defined as a group of
individuals who share some type of bond, allowing for intimate relationships. I think that family has
started to change since the 1970s, when the world began to see a shift in traditional family values, and
movements: feminism, and gay rights. Now when we think of family, the term house hold often comes
into play. I think that the main difference between the two is the relationships that are made. A family
is a more intimate relationship that involves love and nurturing, and a household consists of

Tupac The Man Who Grew From Concrete Analysis
The Man Who Grew From Concrete Tupac was the man who grew from concrete, despite and

select few poems that intrigued me. My favorite being What of Fame? Others like: Life through my
eyes, Sometimes I cry, If I Fail, No win dream poem, also stood out to me. All of these poems have a
common theme of Me vs. the World. Depression is a big motive for Shakur in his writing, given that
his heart is filled with sorrow. He even wrote a song about his heart turning cold. Shakur consistantly
to use metaphors in his writing, along with masculine rhymes. Being a song artist, it s only natural.

He often switches between text and the proper spelling as this can be seen in the last passage. He uses

pace of a beat for me personally, because I viewed all his poems as songs. He s a very simple writer,
not much of a lyricist, and his rhymes are mostly male rhymes. His grammar utilizes text language,
and can be found in nearly every poem in his book. Tupac uses text language to keep it simple, and to
help with the flow his ideas. He has an incredible sense of rhyme and rhythm and meter. His overall
style is one that countless people fall in love with and one that all can understand. The reason Tupac is
as big as he is, is because there s truth to his writing and a message for every type of person. This

Theorem 7. p0 + p1 + p2 + p3 + p4 + ·· · + pn = pn+3 1
Proof. Question: How many ways are there to tile a strip of length n+3 using squares and trominos
with at least one tromino?
Answer1: There are pn+3 ways to tile a strip of length n + 3, but I need to exclude the situation that all
tiles are squares. So, there are pn+3 1 ways.
Answer2: Base this on the position of the last tromino.
If the last tromino is here (see above), there are pn ways to tile.
If the last tromino is here (see above), there are pn 1 ways to tile.
If the last tromino is here (see above), there are pn 2 ways to tile.
So, following this pattern, the position of the last tromino moves to the left. So, in conclusion, there

Answer1 is equal to Answer2.

Reflection Paper On Group Interaction
REFLECTION PAPER
Identified Experience
The group member I identified most with was Andrew in the first program. I identified with Andrew
because he stated he felt like an outsider at times. He felt that it was easier to talk with men than
women. However, in my case, I feel as though it is easier to talk with women than men in a group.
Overall, I feel hesitant to share because most of my group participation has been with practically
strangers. Like the video, I believe it is difficult to talk out loud about personal issues. Talking out
loud about issues that may cause anxiety has been a problem for me personally for many years.
However, after dialoguing with others within groups, I tend to become more comfortable talking and
opening up. In the first program, as the group members began to talk in the first segment, there was a
difference in the ability to relate to each other. I believe the dyads influenced open up and talking out
loud. Working in pairs facilitates member interaction because talking to one person seems less
threatening than addressing the entire group (p. 18). At the beginning of the sessions the group leaders
asked each member to look around the room to gain a feel of the group members. The purpose of
assessing the tone of the room will create an awareness of everyone in the room. Also, everyone
introduced themselves by saying their names.
During the early part of the group interactions, Andrew identified with James as feeling like an
outsider. I believe at this time was the beginning if Andrew doing the work. The group leader asked
Andrew can he relate to anyone else in the group. Nobody knows what it feels like to be the other
person. The only way to express how I feel would be to realize within discussion and verbalize my
feelings. We do not assume that we know what being an outsider means to Andrew or James, nor do
we know what feeling stupid is like for Jacqueline, so we ask all three of them to note and verbalize
when they become aware of these feelings (p. 17). Throughout this session each members were
encouraged to talk out loud to verbalized related issues. I believe the entire session is a process of
doing the work. As I watched the video of the first

Jealousy In Disney s Panopticism
Disney s Panopticon When looking through the eye of Foucault s Panopticism, it becomes clear that
Disney s Cinderella is not only a story of a mistreated stepdaughter who marries her prince but also an
allegory for an attempt to regulate women s actions in society. Foucault described a prison in which a
tower was placed in the middle and from which the guards were capable of viewing all of the cells
concurrently. The prisoners, not knowing whether or not they were being watched, adjusted their
behavior to fit the standards that the guards had set. The reason for this adjustment was to avoid being
punished if a guard happened to have been looking in their direction. Cinderella regulates women s
demeanor in much the same way by teaching girls, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this depiction of Cinderella, every eligible maiden in the kingdom wanted to marry the Prince, so it
is only logical to believe that all of the women without a husband should have wanted to marry the
prince. That is the conclusion that can be drawn from Cinderella. It is this exact conclusion that drives
the women of our society to be constantly looking for their prince from as early as they can remember.
Through the use of colorful advertising and constant advertisements, Disney has created a world
where masses of little girls want to grow up to become princesses. If a girl does not want to look for
her prince, but instead wants to focus on her work or school or something totally different, she is seen
as a social pariah and people will wonder what is wrong with her. An overarching shadow will be
placed over these girls by others because they were all raised on the Cinderella idea that every girl
should be looking to marry their prince. This is because society acts as an overarching panopticon
over women to make sure that they are always looking for their prince instead of focusing on what is
important to them. By creating turning many women into social outcasts, society is able keep many
girls from trying to do anything more than being a

Societal Interpretations of Buddhism and Gender Inequality
The doctrine and basic values of Buddhism are based centrally in equality and provide equal
opportunity for both genders, and indeed all sentient beings, to attain enlightenment and the
realization of the true Buddha within. However, an interesting discrepancy within the Buddhist
traditions occurs in the societal interpretations of Buddhism and the resulting rules and regulations
that can show less than equal treatment and valuation of female members. As a religion that gives
strong support of logically and empirically constructed morals, it is worthwhile to note that many of
the societal views of women show a portrayal of the female that has not caught up with ... Show more

The Buddha himself said that women were totally, indisputably capable of enlightenment. (325) The
inherent meaninglessness of gender has been stated by the Buddha himself, and this should serve as a
warning about the danger of falling into a trap of the ego. Discovering the inner harmony and equality
between all beings is a goal that can easily be waylaid when too much importance is placed on the
separate qualifications or strengths of the different genders. Ego, as we have seen, is any stage of
habitual patterns and responses that clouds over the clarity and openness of basic human nature.
(Gross 162, Buddhism after Patriarchy) Separating practitioners by gender status can lead to this same
type of ego duality. The separation of male and female is a pattern repeated by society and if it enters
the realm of the spiritual, as in this case, it is yet another disillusion. The loss of the ego is intricately
tied up in the renunciation of gender roles within Buddhism. Every Buddhist practitioner, regardless of
sex, should be on an initially even playing field, according to the tenants of the Buddha.
Some central Buddhist beliefs, such as karma, have been used to justify the inequality of women s
status. Unfortunately this patriarchal view brings very bad karma for those who use this form of
justice , as they are simply supporting an

experiencing and the length of time she will be in that phase.
Estrus synchronization is the practice of regulating when one or many mares will be in estrus.
Breeders can follow certain protocol in order to cause synchronization in the cycle. According to ...

If the stallion only offers scheduled appointments, you may have to schedule in advance and not know
when your mare will be in estrus that far ahead. In all cases, estrus synchronization minimizes the
number of inseminations each mare will require per cycle in order to become pregnant.
A review of the estrous cycle is necessary to understanding the protocols for estrus synchronization.
The estrous cycle of the mare is the period from one ovulation to a subsequent ovulation. Horses are a
seasonally polyestrous animal meaning that non pregnant mares experience recurring estrous cycles.
Further, the equine breeding season is regulated by photoperiod, light exposure. The mares estrous
cycle is 21 to 22 days in length and involves hormones produced by the pineal gland, hypothalamus,
pituitary gland, ovaries and endometrium.
The estrous cycle during the breeding season is made up of two phases, the estrus, or follicular phase
and the diestrus, or luteal phase. During estrus, a four to seven day long phase, the mare is receptive to
the stallion and can become pregnant following ovulation, which occurs one to two days prior to the
end of estrus. Diestrus is a 14 to 15 day long phase in which the mare is unreceptive to the stallion.
This phase ends with the corpus luteum deteriorating which initiates the next follicular, or estrus
phase.
Hormone treatments are the most common method of

The Evolution Of Microgrids And Different Other Components
Abstract Electricity supports almost all sectors of the economy and is a critical infrastructure in a
nation. The central grid based electricity gets considered as the most convenient and reliable form of
energy. However, it has not met the entire customer demand need for power since over 1.3 billion
people cannot access electricity. Microgrids are one of the new technologies developed to solve this
problem and support emerging economies and sustainable development. This paper describes the
evolution of microgrids and different other components.

I. INTRODUCTION
The new technologies to generate electricity at the distribution level called distributed energy
resources such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A microgrid refers to a small electricity power system that is connected to the utility grid through the
point of common coupling (PCC) and uses on site Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) for the
supply of all or part of local demands. Microgrids comprise of a low voltage (approximately ≤ 1kV) or
medium voltage (range 1 69 kV) locally controlled cluster of distributed energy resources that behave,
from the grids perspective, as a single load both electrically and in energy markets. Fig. 1 shows the
interaction between the two types of electrical systems and their corresponding components
interlinked by the power converters. [4] From this figure, it can be revealed that the AC MGs can be
connected to the bulk AC system via power transformers and require an AC/DC power converter to
interconnect with the bulk DC system. Fig.1. Interconnection of various microgrid components.[4]
A microgrid is introduced to resolve the issues with the economics and the resilience of power
delivery systems. Microgrid loads get supplied by both the utility grid and on site generation when
connected to the utility grid. A microgrid is seen as an aggregated controllable load from the utility
grid.
The microgrid structure consists of several types of distributed energy sources such as solar panels,
wind turbines, microturbin, thermal power plant each in the form of distributed generation, including
energy reserves from battery. Microgrid electrical connection points that

Concentric Or Eccentric Training
This article is about the modifications to muscle strength, velocity, and neural activity as well as any
morphological changes subsequently going through either eccentric or concentric training. Eccentric
training has illustrated to have adequately good effects on muscle hypotrophy, strengthening the
muscle, and has made efficient exercises for injured athletes going through rehabilitation. But with
eccentric training it makes lower concentric but vaster eccentric strength enhancements compared
with concentric training, due to eccentric and concentric training providing dissimilar stimuli to the
muscles. An improvement is necessary in obtaining the information of the potential differences of
morphological and neural adaptations in the early stages of eccentric and concentric training in order
to improve musculoskeletal rehabilitation programs and there has been a lack of researching the
effects of resistance training. The purpose of the article is to compare what effects and the differences
six weeks of concentric or eccentric training could possibly do to the ... Show more content on

Both groups were similar in that they developed in maximal concentric muscle, maximal eccentric
muscle, and isometric muscle rate of force development. Both groups also correspondingly increased
in muscle thickness and muscle quality even though the eccentric training group performed a heavier
workload during the period, that group did not gain an advantage in those categories. The only
distinction between the two groups is that the eccentric group enhanced their isometric strength with
eccentric exercises. Concentric strength is better in those who trained concentrically and eccentric
strength is better in those who trained eccentrically, which is common sense,

Lil Mama Research Paper
Niatia Lil Mama Kirkland has had many roles throughout her career. She s a dancer, an actress, an
entertainer and television personality. But many now only know her as a meme, or a played out joke.
Lil Mama s first single, Lip Gloss came out in 2007 and was the game changer for her becoming
career. Lip Gloss had all of the makings of a one hit wonder a catchy beat, a less catchy dance to
accompany it, and an everyday item, lip gloss, as its focal point. Although, her flow wasn t bad and
her dance moves were on point, people didn t quite know what to do with Lil Mama during her
breakout years. She was a teenage girl demanding to be taken seriously in an industry dominated by
adult men, and seemed to be caught in pop culture limbo, not bubbly enough, but also not quite real
enough for us to really care about. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2009, while still riding her Lip Gloss popularity, Lil Mama attended the MTV Video Music Awards,
as Jay Z and Alicia Keys performed their infamous song Empire State of Mind, where Lil Mama made
a decision that set her career on a downhill path. Beyoncé tried to stop her, but she pushed her way,
uninvited, onto the stage with two of the biggest names in entertainment at the time. It was awkward,
as Jay Z confirmed that it was an unwelcomed attempt to gain attention. It was also the moment that
the public decided that Lil Mama was merely a joke. Too many people Lil Mama s VMA stunt made
her seem as a clueless outsider who was either too cocky or too ill advised to think that she could
share the stage with such huge names in the industry. What makes things worse is this incident just so
happened to correspond with the Internet s shift from tech geeks exclusively to a mainstream social
media commodity and Lil Mama, as the stage crashing third wheel became the visual foundation of
too many jokes; that never

Dog In Harlem
The story I am analysing is The Baddest Dog in Harlem. It was written by Walter Dean Myers. The
story starts with some guys talking about who is the best fighter ever. Their conversation was cut short
by the police. The police looked after a guy with an automatic riffle. Then one of the police officer
slides and his pistol fired a bullet when he touched the ground. That starts a gunfire and as a result of
that a dog and a kid were killed.
The place where the story takes place is 145th street in Harlem. Harlem is a neighbourhood in New
York. The people in Harlem is very poor and half of them don t even have a job. There is also very
much criminality in the neighbourhood. As we can read on page 18 line 14 One thing about 145th

The man was killed by the police because they thought he pulled a gun, but he did not pull a gun
instead he took his wallet out of his pocket. In The Baddest Dog in Harlem there is also an innocent
kid there got shot because he wanted to see the reason for all the police and shots. Another parallel
there can be drawn is where Springsteen sings Lena gets her son ready for school; She says on these
streets, Charles; You ve got to understand the rules.; If an officer stops you,; Promise me you ll always
be polite,; That you ll never ever run away; Promise Mama you ll keep your hands in sight and the
part from The Baddest Dog in Harlem where the main character puts on his innocent face are equal
because they are both about not making anything a police officer can misinterpret and therefore

State Farm Vs. Geico Commercial
Insurance is something people need, and companies compete with one another for people to buy their
products. In the State Farm commercial, Aaron Rodgers is a celebrity football player who says people
need insurance in case of accidents. In the Geico commercial, a high school football player is
informed by one of his teammates on the field that they can save money by using Geico. Both of these
commercials use logos, pathos, and ethos to sell their products to the public.
Logos is the appeal to logic, and is a way of persuading an audience by reason and statistics (
Examples of Ethos, Logos, and Pathos Internet). What Aaron Rodgers does in the State Farm
commercial is give people a reason to go with State Farm, by showing an example where someone ...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After analyzing, the State Farm commercial does a more effective job of selling their product to the
consumers by giving examples of when they would need State Farm by combining their home and
auto insurance, rather than siding with the competition. With logos, State Farm does a better job than
Geico because their insurance deal is more lucrative than Geico s customer satisfaction rating. That
goes back to the main point of them selling their product more effectively. Concerning pathos, State
Farm is advantageous to where Geico is not. State Farm humorous situation in where Aaron Rodgers
is trying to swat a fly with a golf club is more capturing, rather than simply a high school football
player getting tackled off guard. Regarding ethos, State Farm is yet again victorious when it comes to
being the more persuasive commercial. What they do is they have two contrasting situations with
Aaron Rodgers, giving two examples where home and auto insurance might be needed. Geico is
similar with the high school football player getting tackled, but their ethics are dependent on the
comedy of the moment and speaker rather than any celebrities endorsing their product. In conclusion,
State Farm is more effective at persuading and selling their product to the public, and therefore, is the
more persuasive

Analysis Of The Worst Years Of Our Lives By Barbara...
Almost everywhere people go today there are TVs: in restaurants, schools, doctors offices, and homes.
There is no way to escape the reach of technology. Barbara Ehrenreich, the author of The Worst Years
of Our Lives, believes that people are becoming couch potatoes because they are not going out and
doing the activities they see on TV. Generally, Ehrenreich is correct in her belief; people spend more
time watching TV, than living a healthy lifestyle and interacting with the people around them.
Furthermore, the social health of people is suffering due to watching TV, over hanging out with
friends. When watching TV people do not talk, as they need to hear the show they are watching. They
cannot have healthy relationships with friends if they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If people do not know how to talk to others, then they cannot get jobs that involve talking to others.
Some people are content with not having great jobs and settling for mediocre jobs; people live
vicariously through the TV. They can watch a show and fulfill the need to be the person in the show,
instead of actually being like that person in real life. Knowing how to communicate effectively is an
important life skill that people are losing from watching too much television. When customers ask
questions, people have to know how to properly address those questions and how to explain in a way
that makes sense for everyone involved. It is imperative that people know how to do this, otherwise
they are ineffective and others just get frustrated. Employers are not going to hire people that are not
going to be able to speak with customers or participate when brainstorming, even if they had a good
idea. People are becoming more introverted; no one talks with others face to face. They are too busy
watching TV to hang out with friends or family and are lacking human interaction that causes this loss
of social

  • 2. Essay on The Turn of the Screw by Henry James How far does The Turn of the Screw conform to the conventions of the Victorian ghost story genre? What alternative interpretations does it lend itself to? The Turn of the Screw was written by Henry James in the nineteenth century, when the belief that living people were in contact with the dead was prevalent. In the Victorian era the advance of science was undermining religious beliefs, because evolutionists were saying that the world had not been created in 4004BC, as the bible suggests. Therefore, the possibility of contacting the spirits restored some faith in the non material world. The era it was written in does suggest that The Turn of the Screw is merely a classic ghost story, but Henry James has integrated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the reader then discovers that the manuscript is kept in a locked drawer and has not been out for years due to the dreadful dreadfulness! of the tale, the mysterious atmosphere is strengthened. It is at this point in the novel that Henry James ensures that the reader will finish reading the book, because they will want to know what the Governess is hiding and why. One of the obvious reasons for this, to the reader, is that the Governess did not want anyone to hear her story due to it s hard hitting content. This reason is made apparent to the reader from the metaphor Turn of the Screw , which gives the impression that the story will have a deep emotional impact on them like a screw being forced into a wall. Adding a particular touch to the story are the two children, who give the effect of two turns . This shows the reader that the story will have a deeper impact on them than they originally thought, because the depth of the screw is dictated by the amount of turns forced upon it and also represents the impression made on the reader. Consequently, if the screw is turned twice then the story will have twice the impact. Douglas wincing grimace at the thought of the story supports the reader s assumption that The Turn of the Screw is a horrific ghost story, but nothing more psychological than that. However, alternative interpretations suggest that the prologue is used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Academic Advisor Assignment Academic advising is an important and effective tool used by 2 year and 4 year institutions. With academic advising comes a huge responsibility to lead students on a path for success. To advise effectively, advisors must have institutional knowledge (rules and regulations, academic policies, majors, minors, certificate programs) and an understanding of the students they will advise including knowledge of any special population groups. (Folsom, Joslin, Yoder, 2005) To gain better knowledge of academic advising I interviewed Crystal, an academic advisor from the Archer College of Health and Human Services on the Angelo State University campus. She has her M. Ed. in Student Development and Leadership and has been an academic advisor for 4 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The question was posed; discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly about being an advisor? Crystal replied by stating she enjoys helping students reach their potential but it can be difficult explaining to a student about realistic expectations when it comes to getting into the nursing program. The hardest part though for her is helping students cope with and find resources to overcome dangerous and scary situations. She sometimes has students come to her office and make statements of suicidal thoughts or have personal situations that are putting them at risk. When this happens she has to refer them to the appropriate office/resource but students aren t always receptive to her advice. When I asked her what the most difficult part of being an advisor was, Crystal stated that getting the at risk students back on track to complete their degree was the most difficult part of being an Academic Advisor. Academic Advisors are under a lot of pressure to ensure students are meeting their degree requirements in a timely manner. (Crystal, personal communication, October 28, 2015) Retention and graduation rates are associated with successful advising practices. I then asked Crystal if the students she advises are always receptive to the advice she offers. She stated that most students are receptive to my advice, but there are situation when students are considered to be foreclosed , meaning the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Significance of Xenia in Homer‚Äôs The Odyssey Kaitlyn Lambert MR. Bovaird Honors English 9 23 May 2010 The Significance of Xenia in Homer s Odyssey The society of Ancient Greece was very much centered around the gods, and a healthy fear of the consequences of not obeying their laws. The next most important staples of the society were the concepts of braver, pride, and hospitality, or Xenia. The significance of these values is shown quite clearly in The Odyssey of Homer. In the first five books of the epic, Telemachos is shown great hospitality by the kings, Nestor, and Menelaos. As Homer writes in description of Nestor s reception of Telemachos and Athena, These men, when they sighted the strangers, all came down together and gave them greeting with their hands and offered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Homer.9.289 2910 This is one example of the brutality that Odysseus and his crew were also shown, rather than hospitality. The range of degrees of hospitality shown to the travelers is a testament to the number of people who ignored the law of Xenia. The hospitality that Telemachos and Penelope show Odysseus when he returns home, even though they do not know who he really is yet another example of xenia. This hospitality helps in his winning his home back from the suitors. Telemachos welcomes Odysseus into the house, and gives him permission to beg the suitors of money. Despite knowing this, said suitors harass him when he asks for coins. In response to this, Telemachos says , There will be no pleasure in this feast, at all since vile things will be uppermost. Now the hallowed prince Telemachos spoken [...] I drive away no man. Telemachos s defense of Odysseus, even in guise of a vagabond, shows great grace on his part, and show great hospitality, on top of undermining the suitors, thus giving them less power. After the suitors have gone home, Penelope summons her maidservant, saying , Eurynome, bring up a chair, and put a fleece on it, so that the stranger can be seated, and tell me his story, and listen to what I have to say. • 6. Laminar Flow and Convective Heat Transfer of Water-Alumina... Laminar flow and convective heat transfer of water/alumina nanofluid inside horizontal annuli with a streamwise moving inner cylinder are investigated theoretically. Employed model for alumina/water nanofluid is the modified two component four equation non homogeneous equilibrium model that fully accounts for the effects of nanoparticles volume fraction distribution. Aiming to consider the effects of thermal boundary conditions on nanoparticles migration, two cases including constant heat flux at the outer wall and insulated inner wall (Case A) and constant heat flux at the inner wall with insulated outer wall (Case B) have been considered. The numerical results obtained indicated that the thermal boundary conditions at the pipe walls are significantly affecting the nanoparticle volume fraction distribution particularly in the cases where the ratio of Brownian motion to thermophoretic diffusivities is small. Moreover, increasing the velocity of the moving inner cylinder reduce the heat transfer rate for case A. In this case nanoparticles migration has negative effects on the performance of the heat transfer system as it decreases the heat transfer rate. In contrast, in case B, movement of the inner cylinder enhance the heat transfer rate and anomalous heat transfer enhancement take place when the thermophoretic force is dominant (larger nanoparticles). Nanoparticles volume fraction distribution developed under the mutual effects of thermophoretic and Brownian motion forces. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of these Native American tribes, including the Iroquois (Mohawks) and Abenaki, inhabited Vermont while Samuel de Champlain arrived. In 1609, after exploring the land, he claimed it as French property and decided to war against the Natives for the land. Champlain befriended Canadian tribes and although the language barrier prevented them from communicating, they had a common goal: to push the Mohawks towards the northeast. The flags over the walls sank to half mast, and the lines going into the city grew longer, extending across the bridge into the hamlet. What is happening? Vig wondered aloud. A bearded merchant turned in his saddle, The guards have been ordered to search everyone entering the city. Not sure why. Vig stared for a moment before whispering to Britta, This does not seem right to me. Me either, Britta agreed. She glanced around. Wait! We have an option. Follow me. Wheeling their horses around, they rode back a short distance, before veering off into a narrow street fronted by several boarded up store fronts. In front of one, bearing an extremely weathered signboard, she yanked the reins and dismounted. Vig joined her. She tried the front door, but it was locked. Slipping around the side, she tried another door, but it too was inaccessible. We need to get inside. Let me try, Vig offered, then kicked the door with his boot, it shuddered, then swung open. Impressive, Britta said. Big feet, Vig rejoined. One of the advantages of being a dwarf. Inside, they found darkness and cobwebs. Britta found an old lamp with some oil in it and using her flint and steel, managed to get it lit. But even with the lamp light, the interior still looked like a cave. With no immediately apparent motive, it begs the question in people as to what might possess a person to go out and commit such a heinous crime. Indeed, the question has dogged the American populace ever since the invention of the modern mass shooting, and even before, attached to other senseless violent atrocities. Human brains are wired to look for causality in meaningless events as a survival mechanism, so they have a tendency to find it in places where it actually never existed in the first place. This is why violence in television and video games has come under fire in recent years as their influence expands, despite evidence that such phony violence does not beget real violence and may, in fact, be beneficial to a person s well being. Firstly, it should be noted that the studies people often cite when attempting to prove media violence has negative effects on behavior are flawed and inconsistent. In a review of publications on the subject conducted by psychologist Jonathan L. Freedman, he found that of the 2,500 publications, there were only 200 pieces of non duplicated research among them, stemming from places of varying scientific legitimacy. The ways in which many of these studies are conducted can lead to skewed results in favor of the hypothesis the researchers want to prove. When studying how violent media consumption affects play ... Ali et al., (2010) points, out that the properties of a service or product that the buyer or user purchases and the value given to it by them is the quality of that product or service. Koch (2003) suggests that quality is a process of developing a product or service, building relationship through assessment, anticipation and the fulfillment of the stakeholders implied needs. More so in recent years inside of emergency services where until recently have been immune. Governments have withheld from cutting because the 9/11 terrorist attacks placed these services on a pedestal. This has caused a huge rise in cuts to many services. It also hits harder in cities that are already inside of a budget crisis. Budget cuts should be prevented and avoided in emergency services. This scares many citizens into either moving to a city with a better emergency service budget or protesting to get their city s budget raised. I pray that nobody in this room needs the police or fire in their new future, another attendee remarked (qtd. In Smith 5). All Human Beings Possess A Basic Understanding Of Love All human beings possess a basic understanding of love and are able to express love through verbalizations, emotions, gestures, or other acts of kindness; however, the condition of the human heart is tainted by sin and so is love in terms of humanity. Thus, human beings are unable to understand and comprehend love s truest form which is found in the embodiment God s being. God s love is communicated to mankind through the covenants, the wonders of creation, the personhood of Jesus Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit who subsequently seals God s offer of salvation through the atoning death of Jesus Christ. Furthermore, those whom God allows Himself to be known can also know God s love through God s providential care and sustainment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence, with all the confusion and mystery that surrounds the Trinity, it becomes difficult to understand how each member of the Trinity shares in the attribute of God s love. Without the Trinity, human beings cannot appreciate the attribute of God s love. Thus, God reveals His attribute of love through Jesus Christ (John 3:16) while Jesus displays the attribute of God s love through the crucifixion (John 15:13), and the Holy Spirit makes the attribute known through the regeneration (Titus 3:5) of the believer (Dockery, 1992). Furthermore, love itself is in triunity; hence, there must be the lover, the love, and the loved (Conner, 1980, p. 53). In the Godhead, the attribute of God s love finds a perfect expression (Matthew 3:16; John 14:31) in the triunity of the Father who is the lover, the Son who is the loved, and the Holy Spirit who is love (Conner, 1980, p. 53). Thus, the Father who so loved (John 3:16) gave the Son his love (Colossians 1:13) and the love of the Spirit (Romans 15:30; Galatians 5:22) which is expressed to mankind not only in creation but in redemption where the invisible is made visible (Conner, 1980). Adding to the complexity of God s love is the fact that the attribute of God s love is not easily seen in the Holy Spirit as the Holy Spirit never truly reveals Himself to human consciousness; hence, the ... This movie was so over the top, it was over over the top, but it kept the whole theater laughing throughout the entire movie, which is exactly what it was made to do. The movie s plot is not very intricate, but it really doesn t need to be. It s about 2 Men s Singles Figure Skaters that are the complete opposites of each other. Chazz Michael Michaels (Will Ferrell) is the notorious bad boy in figure skating, he s very sexual and all the ladies swoon over him. • 24. Summary Of The Mower Against Garden In The Mower Against Gardens, Andrew Marvell uses a conceit to liken the plants in an English garden to the women of a brothel, exemplifying the theme of man s perversion of nature. Three main metaphors are used, the first being mankind as the brothel owner. The second metaphor is the flowers as prostitutes, and the final metaphor is the flowers offspring as abandoned children. Marvell begins the conceit by introducing mankind as the instigator of corruption. Luxurious man, to bring his vice in use, / Did after him the world seduce (1 2). The use of the word man, instead of mankind, begins the characterization of the male, or the patriarchy as the owner of the brothel, as well as the patrons that keep it in business. Additionally, the speaker uses very charged, sexual language, such as vice and seduction to describe how humans are enchanted by nature s beauty. At the time of writing, in 16th century England, the act of a man visiting a brothel would have been considered a vice, or something that generally considered sinful or negative. However, the act is nonetheless accepted by society as something normal. The speaker then introduces nature as a female entity, which coincides with the perception of Mother Nature. as a female entity. And from the fields the flowers and plants allure, / Where nature was most plain and pure (3 4). The words plain and pure imply that nature, in its original, untouched state, has a sort of purity associated with a virgin maiden. Before coming into contact with man, nature has a pristine and naïve characteristic. However, that will change as soon after man establishes a position of power over nature. Mankind traps nature within the gardens square (5), and he begins to change the plants, presumably by grafting them together or selectively breeding them to produce more desirable and colorful traits. This Garden square, with its dead and standing pool of air (6). could be interpreted as the cramped interior of the brothel where the women are forced to work, with four walls trapping them on every side. Later in the poem, too, the garden is referred to as a green seraglio (27). A seraglio is the women s apartment area of an Ottoman palace. This was an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I put down the newspaper and uneasily glanced at the patient resting by my side for whose comfort I was responsible. On the first day, without going through any training, I met Yuping, a sixty year old pancreas cancer victim and also a mother of six. Estranged from her family due to high medical expenditure, none of her children had shown up in days; I filled their roles. I fed her, took her out for some fresh air and tried to chat with her, but she rarely talked. She spent her time staring at the plain ceiling and listening the anxious voices from the hallway. Sitting at her bedside and thinking about that disturbing news headline, I began to experience a sense of desperation. I was sickened by the emotional neglect that Yuping experienced, but no matter how I tried, I could not reach into the heart of this suffering lady. This was the dark side of medicine that I had never seen before. Right then, I questioned myself, Do I really want to be a doctor? A family, according to the Merriam Webster dictionary, is a group of individuals living under one roof and usually under one head. This definition still holds true today; however, the parameters seem to be blurred due to rapid changes in our society. Since the mid 1900s researchers have been seeing a trend in that our idea of a family has been changing. The ones that are primarily up for discussion include just a few. Some examples of the Central American countries include Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Guatemala(CDC). Some examples of the Caribbean countries would include Anguilla, the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, Haiti, Jamaica, and many more(CDC). Each of these countries share a major thing in common, all of their economies rely a great amount on Tourism and the people visiting their scenic lands(ABS 1 5). That being said, the negative effects that came to these places with chikungunya can be and already are devastating to these populations. To start off, the chikungunya virus negatively affected the countries of the Caribbean and Central America by the initial outbreak of the virus in their populations. • 38. Jealousy In Disney s Panopticism Disney s Panopticon When looking through the eye of Foucault s Panopticism, it becomes clear that Disney s Cinderella is not only a story of a mistreated stepdaughter who marries her prince but also an allegory for an attempt to regulate women s actions in society. Foucault described a prison in which a tower was placed in the middle and from which the guards were capable of viewing all of the cells concurrently. The prisoners, not knowing whether or not they were being watched, adjusted their behavior to fit the standards that the guards had set. The reason for this adjustment was to avoid being punished if a guard happened to have been looking in their direction. Cinderella regulates women s demeanor in much the same way by teaching girls, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this depiction of Cinderella, every eligible maiden in the kingdom wanted to marry the Prince, so it is only logical to believe that all of the women without a husband should have wanted to marry the prince. That is the conclusion that can be drawn from Cinderella. It is this exact conclusion that drives the women of our society to be constantly looking for their prince from as early as they can remember. Through the use of colorful advertising and constant advertisements, Disney has created a world where masses of little girls want to grow up to become princesses. If a girl does not want to look for her prince, but instead wants to focus on her work or school or something totally different, she is seen as a social pariah and people will wonder what is wrong with her. An overarching shadow will be placed over these girls by others because they were all raised on the Cinderella idea that every girl should be looking to marry their prince. This is because society acts as an overarching panopticon over women to make sure that they are always looking for their prince instead of focusing on what is important to them. By creating turning many women into social outcasts, society is able keep many girls from trying to do anything more than being a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Crisp shows that people are too nonchalant about nuclear weapons and their dangerous effects because of their daily lives and work which do not allow for them to worry about these threats through the use of rhetorical appeals. The earth already suffers from the climate change, yet the American people still ignore the history of what happened to Hiroshima and Nagasaki and all the damages U.S inflicted. Countries yet race to develop plentiful nuclear weapons that are having conflict with other countries. Societal Interpretations of Buddhism and Gender Inequality The doctrine and basic values of Buddhism are based centrally in equality and provide equal opportunity for both genders, and indeed all sentient beings, to attain enlightenment and the realization of the true Buddha within. However, an interesting discrepancy within the Buddhist traditions occurs in the societal interpretations of Buddhism and the resulting rules and regulations that can show less than equal treatment and valuation of female members. As a religion that gives strong support of logically and empirically constructed morals, it is worthwhile to note that many of the societal views of women show a portrayal of the female that has not caught up with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Buddha himself said that women were totally, indisputably capable of enlightenment. (325) The inherent meaninglessness of gender has been stated by the Buddha himself, and this should serve as a warning about the danger of falling into a trap of the ego. Discovering the inner harmony and equality between all beings is a goal that can easily be waylaid when too much importance is placed on the separate qualifications or strengths of the different genders. Ego, as we have seen, is any stage of habitual patterns and responses that clouds over the clarity and openness of basic human nature. (Gross 162, Buddhism after Patriarchy) Separating practitioners by gender status can lead to this same type of ego duality. The separation of male and female is a pattern repeated by society and if it enters the realm of the spiritual, as in this case, it is yet another disillusion. The loss of the ego is intricately tied up in the renunciation of gender roles within Buddhism. Every Buddhist practitioner, regardless of sex, should be on an initially even playing field, according to the tenants of the Buddha. Some central Buddhist beliefs, such as karma, have been used to justify the inequality of women s status. Unfortunately this patriarchal view brings very bad karma for those who use this form of justice , as they are simply supporting an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Estrus Synchronization Protocols Essay example In the current breeding practices, management of the estrous cycle is a common. Breeders want to know when their mare is in one phase or the other and also wants to be able to determine when she will ovulate. Manipulation of the estrous cycle is a practice of breeding management. Manipulation of estrous involves changing the normal cycle through hormone treatments or other methods. Managing and manipulating the estrous cycle allows breeders to have control over the phase the mare is experiencing and the length of time she will be in that phase. Estrus synchronization is the practice of regulating when one or many mares will be in estrus. Breeders can follow certain protocol in order to cause synchronization in the cycle. According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the stallion only offers scheduled appointments, you may have to schedule in advance and not know when your mare will be in estrus that far ahead. In all cases, estrus synchronization minimizes the number of inseminations each mare will require per cycle in order to become pregnant. A review of the estrous cycle is necessary to understanding the protocols for estrus synchronization. The estrous cycle of the mare is the period from one ovulation to a subsequent ovulation. Horses are a seasonally polyestrous animal meaning that non pregnant mares experience recurring estrous cycles. Further, the equine breeding season is regulated by photoperiod, light exposure. The mares estrous cycle is 21 to 22 days in length and involves hormones produced by the pineal gland, hypothalamus, pituitary gland, ovaries and endometrium. The estrous cycle during the breeding season is made up of two phases, the estrus, or follicular phase and the diestrus, or luteal phase. During estrus, a four to seven day long phase, the mare is receptive to the stallion and can become pregnant following ovulation, which occurs one to two days prior to the end of estrus. Diestrus is a 14 to 15 day long phase in which the mare is unreceptive to the stallion. This phase ends with the corpus luteum deteriorating which initiates the next follicular, or estrus phase. • 42. The Evolution Of Microgrids And Different Other Components Abstract Electricity supports almost all sectors of the economy and is a critical infrastructure in a nation. The central grid based electricity gets considered as the most convenient and reliable form of energy. However, it has not met the entire customer demand need for power since over 1.3 billion people cannot access electricity. Microgrids are one of the new technologies developed to solve this problem and support emerging economies and sustainable development. This paper describes the evolution of microgrids and different other components. Index Terms Econmomy, Grid, Smart Grid, Microgrid, Reliable. I. A microgrid refers to a small electricity power system that is connected to the utility grid through the point of common coupling (PCC) and uses on site Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) for the supply of all or part of local demands. Microgrids comprise of a low voltage (approximately ≤ 1kV) or medium voltage (range 1 69 kV) locally controlled cluster of distributed energy resources that behave, from the grids perspective, as a single load both electrically and in energy markets. Fig. 1 shows the interaction between the two types of electrical systems and their corresponding components interlinked by the power converters. [4] From this figure, it can be revealed that the AC MGs can be connected to the bulk AC system via power transformers and require an AC/DC power converter to interconnect with the bulk DC system. Fig.1. Interconnection of various microgrid components.[4] A microgrid is introduced to resolve the issues with the economics and the resilience of power delivery systems. Microgrid loads get supplied by both the utility grid and on site generation when connected to the utility grid. A microgrid is seen as an aggregated controllable load from the utility grid. The microgrid structure consists of several types of distributed energy sources such as solar panels, wind turbines, microturbin, thermal power plant each in the form of distributed generation, including energy reserves from battery. Eccentric training has illustrated to have adequately good effects on muscle hypotrophy, strengthening the muscle, and has made efficient exercises for injured athletes going through rehabilitation. But with eccentric training it makes lower concentric but vaster eccentric strength enhancements compared with concentric training, due to eccentric and concentric training providing dissimilar stimuli to the muscles. An improvement is necessary in obtaining the information of the potential differences of morphological and neural adaptations in the early stages of eccentric and concentric training in order to improve musculoskeletal rehabilitation programs and there has been a lack of researching the effects of resistance training. After analyzing, the State Farm commercial does a more effective job of selling their product to the consumers by giving examples of when they would need State Farm by combining their home and auto insurance, rather than siding with the competition. With logos, State Farm does a better job than Geico because their insurance deal is more lucrative than Geico s customer satisfaction rating. That goes back to the main point of them selling their product more effectively. Concerning pathos, State Farm is advantageous to where Geico is not. State Farm humorous situation in where Aaron Rodgers is trying to swat a fly with a golf club is more capturing, rather than simply a high school football player getting tackled off guard. Regarding ethos, State Farm is yet again victorious when it comes to being the more persuasive commercial. What they do is they have two contrasting situations with Aaron Rodgers, giving two examples where home and auto insurance might be needed.
