The World Is Flat Case Study
4.The World is Flat, The Looming Challenge to U.S. Competitiveness, Restoring American
Competitiveness, Can Americans Compete?
a.Discuss the combined message) and implications of Thomas Friedman s THREE video
presentations. How did the world become flat? What does it mean for businesses and for the
expanded work force (like you and me), now that the world is hyper connected and flat? Thomas
Friedman s videos discussing how the world is flat was in relation to the economy and not the actual
geographical structure. Globalization has taken over and while we have more information at our
fingertips now more so than ever we are on a flat playing field. We are part of a never ending
global supply change which is constantly changing, and companies must learn to adapt or fall away.
The dot.com boom is what led to the globalization, and it spiraled with outsourcing and global
collaboration via the internet. Average is no longer good enough, you must be above average in
business to stay afloat and be competitive. Gone are the days of businesses only having to appeal to
their local and regional markets, they must now appeal to global markets. With the ability to
connected with each other throughout the world, globalization began to make the world flat.
Everyone is focused on the bottom dollar, outsourcing is at an all time high and you can get
information, data for free if you look hard enough which contributes to the flattening. A global
economy can become competitive with the appropriate education, investments, stable government
and infrastructure. The playing field has been leveled in thanks to the internet and globalization.
How do we survive globalization and the world being flat, Friedman provides us with advice within
his videos on how to survive globalization and be competitive. Thinking like a waitress,
entrepreneurially; you will be nice and accommodating to your customers in hopes to get a better
tip, therefore standing above the rest and having a higher income. Thinking like an immigrant,
working nonstop until you make it; immigrants come to countries with nothing and find ways to
build on what little they have and turn it into something worthwhile; be optimistic and work harder
than everyone else. Think

Andy Warhol s The Last Supper
Andy Warhol was the revolutionaire who led America and the rest of the world into an era of
pop art with his iconic style. For many his ascent echoes one of pop art s ambitions, to bring
popular styles and subjects into the exclusive salons of high art. His crowning achievement was
the elevation of his own persona to the level of a popular icon, representing a new kind of fame
and celebrity for a fine artist (The Art Story). Although very famous in later life, he had a simple
childhood; he was often sickly and he would spend time at home. Since he had a lot of time to
himself he would start to use that time to learn about pop culture, and this is when he began to have
an interest in art. He commenced his career by drawing shoe advertisements,... Show more content

This superior piece uses emphasis by creating a monotony of the same image of Christ many times.
He uses pattern but he adds variation to make it stand out. These changes show the great power
that society traps us in by showing the same images many times. Andy Warhol s creative skill with
proportion and contrast of the motorcycles gives the distinct impression that some are farther in the
background than others. This also shows the superior skill of knowing what he was doing, which is

Argumentative Essay About The Truman Show
The Truman Show Reading and Creating Piece Sunny Ou 10C
Essay Topic: Similar to his interview on Trutalk, write an interview with Christof, which takes
place after the final episode, in which he justifies his actions and responds to Truman s decision to
leave the world of Seahaven.
Clive: To everyone around the world tuning into this exclusive interview with none other than
Christof, we sincerely welcome you all to this special broadcast. Christof, welcome, The Truman
Show had such great success for such a long period of time, is it inevitable that Truman eventually

Christof: Again, it s false statements, this time from my former employees, I never said those
exact words, all I wanted was for the boat to capsize.
Clive: You were willing to capsize him, is that not similar to letting him die.
Christof: Similar to a reasonable extent, The Truman Show has become a highly recognized
worldwide show, we could not have such an abrupt ending and Truman would have most likely
survived. We would have accumulated a procedure, identical to how we saved Truman s father.
Even if Truman did die, at least it would increase our show ratings.
Clive: Well, I m shocked to be honest, you just said that Truman was like a son to you and yet you
were willing to let him die?
Christof: Yes, that was true to a reasonable extent, however the chances of him actually dying were
minimal. We would have done everything in our power to rescue Truman.
Clive: So even if Truman did survive and was rescued back to land, wouldn t Truman be exposed
to the truth and be aware that his life was being

The Pros And Cons Of Survey Junkie
Survey Junkie
Survey Junkie Review
Different from other sites, Survey Junkie is actually not a survey panel but what happens when
you opt to join them, they will connect you to other survey panels. Hence, it acts as the link to use
if you would wish to access other sites to earn money through surveys. The other thing about this
site is that you will not be guided on how to make money through surveys and the only thing you
get when you join is a list of survey panels that you can access.
Complaints associated with Survey Junkie

Conclusion
The process of making payments and including coupon codes as well is just somewhat suspicious
and evidently, this appears more like a way of playing with one s mind innocently. This ought not to
be the case if there is nothing to hide but if you are intending to partner with this site or any other
that uses such a strategy, this should obviously capture your attention.
Survey Junkie has also found a way of working with the twists and turns of up selling, funny
membership and junk mails that are at the core of how the site benefits from each of these. It is
basically a whole mix up of ways and means that are basically targeted on one thing; to ensure the
owner gains from the pattern adopted and to keep those who have joined in close, by rewarding
them once in a while.
It is not all bad with this site and neither is it all good because based on these aspects, it is not
one of the best anyway. One is better placed opting for other sites compared to Survey Junkie and
though it might not necessarily be scam, you might either share in their bigger cake or end up

Research Paper On Cadillac
The name Cadillac is well known all over the world because of the Detroit based General Motors
division manufactured Cadillac car. Few know however that it comes from the name of the
French founder of Detroit, Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, a name that makes
reference to the little French town of Cadillac situated in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region.
Historically Cadillac is a bastide founded in 1280 by the Edward I, King of England for the
defense of Bordeaux. In 1315 the bastide surrounds itself with a defensive wall form which we
still can see 2 gates, 3 towers and almost the entire rampart. The most important historic monument
of the town is the Cadillac Castle . The castle was built between 1599 and1610 by Jean Louis

Immature Wuthering Heights
In Wuthering Heights, both Edgar and Nelly have interesting views on Catherine. It s funny
how they both have negative perspectives on her, but each have total differences. One person
sees her as totally immature. The other sees her not using her full potential. However, the two
see Catherine in different angles opposed to how they interacted, and how the had time to think
on their own experiences. In Nelly s point of view I can to relate to what she sees. She sees
Catherine as a big baby. I agree with her completely. Catherine just throws temper tantrums just to
get her way. It shows every time she is displeased. Also, its just as the prompt says, she does it to
get her own way. It s shown how she gives no care about herself, or others when she doesn t get
what she wants.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Catherine can use her intellect as well as her emotions to prove her point, but her emotional

The Mass Extermination Of European Jews
Alexander Burgazzoli History 233 Exam 3 December 6, 2013 The mass extermination of European
Jews was, without a doubt due to the actions of the Third Reich. The question up for debate was
whether this extermination was a product of Adolf Hitler s methodical planning and execution
under his direct order, or the accumulation of unplanned events driven by the Germans anti Semitic
views? These two polar opposite views of intentionalism and structuralism both have convincing
evidence that support each of their own theories. The intentionalism theory views Hitler as the
mastermind behind the Final Solution, and all the events that led up to the death of nearly six
million Jews. It is their idea that Hitler had been planning the annihilation of the Jewish
community even years prior to him taking complete control over Germany. The anti Semitic view,
the greater part of the German population shared could have been the driving force that leads
structuralism ideas to form. This long lasting hatred for Jews, especially after enduring such a
humiliating defeat in World War I only gave the rest of Germany more reason to turn on the Jews.
They view these mass murders as simply an unplanned set of circumstances that lead to the Final
Solution. If one is looking at the Nazi party from an intentionalist view point you could argue of a
systematic chain of command that flowed from Hitler through all the ranks bellow him. This
ideology had the perception that what could

Terry Malloy Analysis
Marlon Brando as Terry Malloy conveys the tension and perplexity of an incoherent speaker
attempting to frame his own particular personality in recognizable yet recently debilitating
environment. He endeavors to be a person with solid standards, and his developments uncover his
battle. He bites gum expressively, shrugs, falls behind, pulls his neckline up, and stuffs his hands
in his pockets. These apprehensive, practically equivocal signals and practices speak to a distinct
difference from the goons in Johnny Friendly s group. Despite the fact that they are similarly as
verbally blank, the associates remain steadfast in threes, in strong caps and long jackets, beyond
any doubt of what they re doing constantly. The colleagues look, while Malloy much of the time
turns away. Brando must pass on Malloy s inside life through these physical motions, since the

Impromptu creation implies going astray from the composed content and investigating a desire, a
way, a riff, or an instinct since it feels right. Improvisation can wind up plainly scripted if, for
instance, an investigation works phenomenally well in practice. The well known white glove
scene started as act of spontaneity. Brando s apparently oblivious fiddling with the glove diverts
from the whole musicality of the scene and adds to the unforeseen idea of each progression. It
makes a moment dynamic. The principal dynamic is their private, fragile discussion, and the
second offers significance to their physical cooperation. Dropping the glove makes Edie uncertain
of what she needs to do with her body. She pushes unknowingly and reluctantly through different
choices, even as she keeps up a private discussion. Each repel and push of her underlying advance
and Malloy s prodding counterstep sends an electric charge through the

Meyerhold and His Contribution to Theatre
VSEVOLOD EMILEVICH MEYERHOLD AND HIS CONTRIBUTION TO THEATRE
Introduction
Vsevolod Emielevich Meyerhold, considered one of 20th century greatest theatrical innovators,
was born on February 10, 1874 in the Russian town of Penza. He was originally born into a
Lutheran German Jewish family with the name Karl Theodore Kasmir Meyergold. In 1895 he took
the name Vsevolod Emievich Meyerhold after converting to the Russian Orthourdox Church.
Meyerhold studied Law at Moscow University for two terms. He became fascinated with the art of
theatre and as his interest increased he registered for an acting class at the Moscow Art School.
Between 1898 and 1902, he worked at the Moscow Art Theatre where he was an actorin a wide

In the straight theatre the director takes the part of the author, and makes the actor see his work
(author and director are one). After incorporating the author s work by way of the director, the
actor comes face to face with the spectator (author and director at the actor s back), and acts freely
while enjoying the give and take of the two main elements of theatre the player and the playgoer.
The director alone must set the tone and style of a performance so that the straight theatre may not
become chaotic, and yet the acting will remain free and unrestrained.
This stylization leads Meyerhold to the arrangement of the stage with flat surfaces , specifically,
to eliminate the scenery and present the actor, as a principal mechanism for theatrical expression.
This marked the beginning of the deconstruction of the stage space. The disarrangement of the
stage under Meyerhold is said to have had its climax in the constructive solution of The
Magnificent Cuckold and The Death of Tarelkin. The stage in these two performances referred to
above is said to have resembled the renaissance box, was made as dynamic as possible and put
completely to the benefit of the performance itself by being stripped to a maximum extent; allowing
only enough elements to enable the actor convey his

Analysis Of John Nash s A Beautiful Mind ( Gazer Howard )
Maintaining accuracy while producing a biographical film is a difficult undertaking. It requires
complex research and genuine understanding of the person in order to accurately represent them
on screen. In 2001, film makers attempted to translate to screen the life of John Nash in A
Beautiful Mind (Gazer Howard). John Nash, who is a notable figure in the world of academia and
mathematics, won the Nobel Prize in economics for his game theory (Nash, 1994). Nash is also
widely known for his long term struggle with mental illness and was diagnosed with schizophrenia
during his mid thirties (Samels MacLowry, 2002). In order to examine the accuracy of this
portrayal it is necessary to examine the aspects of schizophrenia displayed in the film such as the
mannerisms, signs and symptoms, and forms of treatment; while comparing them to the actual
realities of this disorder. One aspect depicted throughout the film are the various mannerisms of
schizophrenia. Nash s character often displays agitated movements which are sometimes jerky in
motion. Many times this is shown with head movements, hand gestures and even agitated pacing.
This coincides with the National Institute of Mental Health s (2009) description of the mannerisms
associated with schizophrenia. Individuals with diagnosed schizophrenia can display a flat affect,
with no emotion and diminished facial expressions, as well as a catatonic stupor becoming non
responsive to any type of stimulus (National Institute

Analysis Of Moonlight By Barry Jenkins
Barry Jenkins Moonlight depicts the coming of age of a young black boy as he struggles with and
endures abuse for his sexuality, causing him to hide his internal conflicts. The life of the
protagonist, Chiron, is split into his three main stages of life, with each part focusing on the
physical and emotional abuse he endures due to his homosexual orientation. When the viewer first
meets Chiron, he is running from bullies. As he ages, the bullyingfollows him, causing him to
harden and avoid vulnerability in his adult life. Jenkins uses climactic scenes in Chiron s life to
portray how prejudice against black sexuality forces him to conceal his true identity. In Moonlight,

The scene culminates with the characters distancing themselves from both each other and the
audience. Rather than following the characters as they leave, the camera stays stable, leaving an
empty space on screen in their absence. This absence of a figure on screen in their house hints at
Chiron s lack of a home, a safe place to explore his individuality.
Jenkins lighting and sound are also essential to the portrayal of this scene as a key moment in
Chiron s struggle with his identity. These elements characterize Paula as an impeding obstacle to
Chiron s self discovery. Chiron s face here is highlighted, while his mother s face is covered in
shadows. This contrasts the two, indicating that the audience should be on Chiron s side and see the
darkness within Paula. Typically, mothers in films are basked in warm light, indicating their
nurturing relationships with their children. The shadows covering Paula s face, therefore, suggest
that she is an absent mother figure, which soils Chiron s natural maturation. Furthermore, no sound
can be heard from Paula, though the audience can read her lips and understand the nature of their
conversation. Instead, classical music is audible. The use of no sound further establishes Paula as
an absent figure in Chiron s life because she is seen, but not heard. Paula s body is basked in pink
light until the end of the scene, when the light fades to reveal bluish green walls. In this film,
Jenkins uses the

Women In Fantomina
TITLE
Fantomina, written by Eliza Haywood in 1725, elicits revolutionary topics calling into question the
woman s role in patriarchal societies and their lack of sexual freedom. Distinguished in the genre of
amatory fiction, Haywood covers the transformation of the eighteenth century protagonist, from a
young lady of distinguished birth (Haywood 632), to a series of different persona s, including a
prostitute, maid, widow, and an anonymous woman, in Fantomina. The reader is constantly aware
of who the protagonist claims to be under disguise, but the original identity of the protagonist is left
fairly nonexistent. Rather than remaining the mold of her original identity, the protagonist of

Anti masqueraders spread their opinions through writing, comparing this form of entertainment to
vile forms of promiscuity and prostitution. Well known figures of the time, such as Alexander Pope,
William Hogarth, and Henry Fielding, worried that the masquerade would compromise highly held
values in society. Women saw the maskas a symbol of protection their reputations at the same time
as satisfying human curiosity. Anti masquerading men held the view that every woman under the
mask was comparable to a prostitute. Every time women masked their identities, they were in a
way taking on the possibility of experiencing backlash or negative consequence. Haywood s plot
operates around the concept of masquerading and with each persona taken on, Fantomina also puts
herself in the position of discovery. As the novel comes to a close, the protagonists masquerade is
brought to an end when her pregnancy can no longer be hidden. This does not necessarily mean that
Fantomina is unable to manipulate the patriarchal society in which she resides, gaining and

How I Could Have Died
I could have died. I only remember bits and pieces of that cold, brisk New Year s Day. I recall
waking up and going to Mass just like every other Sunday. I remember begging my dad to come
on a trail ride with me and my younger brother. When he finally relented, I gave him a huge hug
and kiss, not ever thinking that they could have been the last hug or kiss my dad might get from
me. Once we got home, I ran upstairs to get changed into my riding clothes. I had gotten new
riding pants and boots for Christmas and was eager to break them in. After all three of us
changed our clothes, we bundled up and headed out to the barn. It is a cute little red barn with a
tin roof, built in the 1800 s with three stalls, one my dad added in, and a huge hayloft. I was so
excited that I was bouncing on the balls of my feet while waiting for my dad and brother to grab
their halters. I was gripping my horses purple halter and lead rope tightly in my hands. I looked
out into the field at our four horses. Two of them were mine, the other two were my dad and
brother s. (Technically I didn t pay for my two horses, but my dad lets me call them mine.) One

Health And Health Of The World Health Organization Essay
The definition of health according to the World Health Organization is: a state of complete
physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity . It is the
goal of health psychologists to identify and understand what determines physical, mental, and social
well being. Rather than focusing on mental illness, it focuses on physical health. The aim of health
psychologyis to promote and maintain health, prevent and treat illness, identify and diagnose the
correlation between health, illness, and dysfunction, and to improve the health care system and the
formation of health policies (Graham, 131).
Personal Interest
The field of health psychology interests me because I have personally seen the effects that
psychological processes have on a person s health and well being. I was a caregiver to a family
member with a chronic health issue called Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome. I witnessed how
stress, negative thinking, and lack of social contact intensified their condition. Their physical health
drastically declined when their mental and emotional health was in a negative place. I noticed how
their depression compounded their pain, and in return, the pain exacerbated their depression. It was
a on going vicious cycle. On the contrary, when they practiced stress relief methods, focused on the
positive things in life, their health improved immensely. Their symptoms improved and they were
able to tolerate their constant and chronic pain

Essay on Misfortune and Comedy in Shakespeare s Play, A...
A Winter s Tale by William Shakespeare is a chilling play full of misfortune and comedy.
Throughout the play, the themes of death and suffering are present, but yet the way in which they
are presented is both comical and strange. The way in which the dialogue takes place or the way
in which actions occur seem to be ambiguous. One of the most pivotal points of the story takes
place over a very short time span, climaxing over three pages, and declining almost immediately
thereafter. In this case, the deathof Hermione and Mamillius occurs and is resolved, with their burial
following quickly after. The wording throughout the text can be interpreted in several ways,
especially in the way which death is represented throughout the play. Death... Show more content on

However, strangely none of the deaths occur on stage, rather both deaths are announced to the
king through someone else. Paulina being the most important of the messengers, for she was
the one caring for both Hermione and Mamillius. The way in which she announces Hermione s
death is peculiar, I say she s dead; I ll swear it. If word nor oath prevail not, go and see: if you
can bring tincture or luster in her lip, her eye, heat outwardly or [breathe] within (50). She
confirms that Hermione is in fact dead, but still want Leontes to go forth and see for himself.
Strange considering that before this point Paulina had changed her views towards the tyrant king.
Paulina no longer respected her king as before, for he had gone blind with rage. Leontes up and
till this point had discredited his queen, already he had forgotten how to bring out the luster or
breath in her. All he saw was an adulterous, somebody guilty of high treason. Death changed
Leontes, for he no longer sought revenge nor did he want to dispel his wrath. Instead he now saw
his mistakes, and would like to mend them, but sadly cannot. The events that have occurred are
done, and there is no way of going back to change them. Leontes himself sees this, and now the play
may move on from the wretchedness that was the new ruler. Now the focus can shift to the
daughter that he had banished before, that was believed unimportant till learning

Informative Speech On Magic
For centuries, man has been using a combination of smoke, mirrors, and sleight of hand to wow
his fellow man with illusions and supposed feats of magic. For a long time, these tricks had to be
performed in secret because they were forbidden by ruling powers and those who were found to be
practicing what was believed to be black magicwere sentenced to death and were usually executed
by being burned at the stake.
By the early 20th century, however, the public s attitude towards magic had changed for the better
and magicians and illusionists were treated as revered entertainers, oftentimes being booked as part
of variety shows alongside the most popular singers and comedians of the era. Some even managed
to climb the bill to become the headline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Iran Hostage Crisis Of 1979 Essay
In the late 20th century, the government of the United States was going through a difficult time.
Having just came out of World War II, the Soviet Union and the United States were in a state of
political and military tension known as the Cold War. Little attention did the government of the
United States give to the other issues at hand. While, in the Middle East there was a storm forming,
the citizens of Iranwere undergoing an evolution into a democratic government; breaking apart
from it monarchical rule. During this extremely crucial phase for Iran, the U.S. and United
Kingdom stepped in to overthrow this democratic development to strengthen their own agendas. In
response to this corruption that caused oppression amongst the Iranian people, they rose up against
the U.S. and held our citizen s hostage. This was known as the Iran Hostage Crisisof 1979. In this
essay we will discuss how the evolving decisions and events that built up to the Iranian Hostage
Crisis were due to a shortsightedness and lack of the understanding of people. Iran a country once
ruled over by a monarch had begun its democratic transformation and had elected their first officials
and prime minister. Mohammad Mosaddegh, democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran from
1951 until 1953. When Mohammad Mosaddegh came into power, he pushed to nationalize their
countries oil industry which has been under British control since 1913 through the Anglo Persian

monolithic blueprint. And, it is one which serial entrepreneur Steve Blank mocks up with the
finesse of an architect who has spent decades building successful companies. In his earlier work
The Four Steps to the Epiphany , Blank set the stage as an innovation oriented thought leader whose
experience based strategies embrace the science of building a business, replete with hypothesis
testing and experimentation. The Startup Owner s Manual finds these insights evolved and
expanded, a precise guide mapping all aspects of the demands of a start up, ranging from the
mindsets that fail to the questions that need to be asked. To understand the customer and the
market, we must test these assumptions in the wilderness of reality. With this textbook, Blank
skillfully offers to take us into the jungle, and out of the building. Key Concepts Customer
Development: The customer development process is central to the success of a startup, and is
guided by fourteen rules and four steps. The theory utilizes fact finding and hypothesis testing to

Using Animals in Research is Bad! Essay
Have you ever wondered about what a product or a medicine goes through before it gets to us on
the store shelves? Products from deodorant to Viagra to weed killer go through years of tests
before a regulating body decides they are safe for us to use. The FDA approves drugs and
cosmetics and he EPA regulates chemicals that are used and may be harmful to the environment.
However before these products are even considered by these regulatory bodies they must go through
years of testing. Testing that is unfortunately done on defenseless animals. Each year 50 to 100
million vertebrateanimals, such as mice, rats, rabbits, cats and dogs are used in experiments to test
products such as medicines, lipstick, household cleaners and pesticides.... Show more content on

This type of test is disturbing due to the fact that there are several highly sensitive non animal tests
that can be done to detect chemical induced genetic mutations but the government still requires
companies to poison animals to see whether or not they will develop cancer. The standard test of
the kind is the rodent cancer bioassay. Mice and rats are subjected to a lifetime of chemical
exposure to the chemicals in all new or reformulated pesticides, food additives, and drugs. Studies
have proven that these tests are found to have more than a 70 percent false positive rate. The final
group of tests that are performed on animals is product tests. No law requires that cosmetics and
household products be tested on animals however, the FDA does urge companies to conduct
whatever tests are necessary to establish that their products are safe and the Consumer Safety
Product Commission that regulates household products does not require animal testing yet many
companies do it anyway. I have saved what I feel is the most cruel aspect of animals testing is that

Salvador Dali Research Paper
On May 11, 1904, Salvador Dali was born in a town called Figueres located in Catalonia, Spain.
Dali started painting when he was six years old. He is a surrealist so his paintings are unreal and
unpredictable. His mother was fully supportive about him choosing art as a career. However, his
father supported his talent, but he did not believe that art would not lead to a successful life.
Dali was a very unique individual. He expressed his dreams through fascinating paintings. I have
learned a lot about Dali from this trip. The most interesting thing to me was that he got expelled
from college because he refused to take an exam. He was almost done with college but refused
to take the exam anyway. It showed that he is filled with courage. He is his own person and no
one could tell him different. It also proves to his father that a college degree is not necessary to
succeed in life. I admire that courage because all my life, the people around me would always tell
me that education is the only way to success. It bothers me because they degrade those who do not
go to school. Dali did whatever he believed in,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of his methods is to fall asleep on a couch with his arms dangling on the sides and holing a
key in one of his hands. He also placed a plate right under the key so that the key will drop and
hit the plate to wake him up before he start to fall into REM sleep. I think that is a smart method
to record dreams. When we are awake, we are fully conscious about everything going on so our
mind is controlled and our thinking is limited. We make connections with what we already know,
our brains think and do work. When we are asleep, we are unconscious so our minds can make
connections without any limit. I believe that dreams work differently for everyone. Dreams

A Comparison of Haydn s Symphony No 95 With Beethoven s...
A Comparison of Haydn s Symphony No. 95 with Beethoven s Symphony No. 5
Introduction As noted by Robert Hughes, Beethoven was not only the embodiment of all that was
before him, but also of that which was yet to come (Hughes 486). The truth of this may be seen by
comparing Beethoven s 5th Symphony in C Minor to Haydn, the father of Symphony, and his 95th
in C Minor. While Haydn s symphony is both playful and dramatic, Beethoven s symphony is
grander both in terms of scale and vision. He expands the size of the orchestra to incorporate the
sounds swirling around, underlying, and depicting the arrival of Fate in a rhythm driven, thematic
symphony that takes Haydn s form and runs with it as though to the top of a mountain peak. This
paper will analyze the symphonies by movement, according to form, size, structure, tonalities,
melodies, orchestral sound and overall mood and effect.
1st Movement Both Haydn s and Beethoven s first movements are composed in sonata form, with
an exposition stated in the opening that is then developed and recapitulated. The size of Haydn s
opening movement is somewhat smaller than Beethoven s, whose opening exposition itself seems
larger than life. Haydn s first movement is roughly six minutes long, and the length of Beethoven s
first movement only exceeds Haydn s by about a minute and a half to two minutes. Beethoven does
not introduce too many structural changes to the traditional sonata form, which he learned from
Haydn, in the first

The And New Zealand Media Essay
This essay will demonstrate how both American and New Zealand media outlets shape and filter
all their stories and decide what people see and think about, and how to think about certain stories;
also known as Agenda Setting .
New Zealand and America interpret news completely differently, what is important in America may
have zero relevance to New Zealand media and vis versa. Agenda setting is more obvious in the
New York times, they report on specific events to endorse and highlight events or issues in an
attempt persuade their audiences how to think and feel about the stories. Whereas New Zealand
news outlets have a less hidden agenda, trying to remain unbiased in their reporting and changing
the layout and topics on their homepage continuously. This essay will be supported through
Severin Tankard s discussion of Media Framing in Effects of Mass Communication, and also in
Jim Macnamara s concept of agenda setting in Media Effects: A Review of 50 years of Research,
and lastly, M.E. McComb s theory of agenda setting in The Agenda Setting function of Mass Media.
The New York times focused on current events of the Olympics and Donald Trump with the
presidential campaign, more serious and hard news. Whereas Stuff reported on human interest
stories and aimless national and international news. Example being in the NY times, the two long
main stories on both days are referring to the Olympics and Michael Phelps. But Stuff only

The Sexual Exploitation Of Youth
INTRODUCTION In an era where internet and social media dominate, there must be a
consideration of legal issues concerning privacy rights. But where is the line drawn when it may
be associated with the sexual exploitation of youth? R. v. Barabash, 2015 SCC 29 [Barabash] is a
circumstantial case that centres on concerns of privacy rights involving private use, child
pornography, as well as regarding the establishments of exploitation and consent. Barabash
involved two fourteen year old girls who were runaways, dependant on drugs and involved in
prostitution. According to Statistics Canada (2008) at the time of this case, youth aged 12 to 14
were twice as likely to experience sexual violence then that of young adults, this statistic was
even higher if the victim is female (Sexual Assault, para. 4). While they were staying with two
significantly older men they were involved in sexual activity that was videotaped and
photographed. Under s.163.1(2) of the Criminal Code the men were charged for making child
pornography as well as the older man was charged with possession of child pornography under s.
163.1(4). While the trial judge found all elements of the offences were established, the accused
raised in defence the private use exception outlined in R. v. Sharpe, 2001 SCC 2 [Sharpe], which
the judge failed to disprove beyond a reasonable doubt. Through theoretical and legal frameworks
this paper will analyze the defence of private use through objective analysis with reference to

you to pay for new buildings, equipment and other assets used to grow your business before you

especially if you have access to low interest rates. Closely related is the advantage of paying off

Far Cry Primal 5 Reasons That Will Lure You To Play
Far Cry Primal released a few days back for PC and the game has already garnered positive reviews
from almost all the major critics. The USP of the game is obviously the game s setting. For the
first time in the Far Cry series, or any game for that matter, the game is set in the Stone Age. This
came as a surprise to a lot of gamers, since developers are always thinking about the future and
about the advancements that they can bring about. This game lets players have an experience like
no one before. So, get ready for a journey through the Stone Age, encounter the beasts and be the
ultimate tribal warlord.
1. Survival is the Key
Far Cry Primal puts a lot of emphasis on survival. Survival is not easy in the Stone Age as ... Show

Everything From Scratch
Survival takes a whole new definition with Far Cry Primal. Unlike most of the other games which
equips the players with futuristic weapons, health packs, vehicles and food, Primal lets players
craft each and everything from scratch. Food, weapons and everything else must be crafter from
what is available in the environment. At night, the forest is a different place and players need fire
to make it through. Even weapons can be made flammable with fire.
4. Wildlife
Since the game is set in a time where none of the current animals exist, players get to experience a
lot of new wildlife. The game features Mammoths, Saber Toothed Cats, Irish Elks, Woolly
Rhinoceros, Cave Lions and much more.
5. Raw, Gut Wrenching Combat
Hand to hand combat is highly entertaining and exciting and Far Cry Primal lets players do just
that. Since there are no modern weaponries, players will have to get close to their foes to make
sure they are dead. Spears and a few projectiles are available, but may not do the job successfully
always. Each situation has to be analyzed and a proper strategy has to be developed. The
satisfaction of breaking the bones of enemies at close range can t be

The Diversity Found in Christianity in Its First Three...
The Diversity Found in Christianity in Its First Three Centuries
Г‚ For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though
many, are one body, so it is with Christ.Г‚ (1Cor 12: 12 13)
The Christian religion is said to be a Г‚ diverse phenomenonГ‚ .[1] This is because there is so
much diversity existing in it although it claims to be a religion with unity based at the very core of
its teachings.
According to the Oxford English dictionary, Christianity isГ‚ the religion based on the person and
teachings of Jesus Christ.Г‚ [2]

The Gnostics were dualists and they claimed there must be two Gods: a God of the material
world in which we live in now, and a Supreme, remote and unknowable Divine Being. The God
of the material world was called a Г‚ DemiurgeГ‚ (a term once used by Plato) or Г‚ CreatorГ‚ [7].
The Demiurge God was the immediate source of creation and ruled the world we lived in. This
God was the God of the Jews. Valentius, a Gnostic theologian, further claimed that the
emergence of the Demiurge was due to the fall of Sophia the last of the three Г‚ aeonsГ‚ . The
spiritual world or Г‚ pleromaГ‚ is compromised of 30 Г‚ aeonsГ‚ emanated by the Primal Ground
of Being. Sophia was one of these Г‚ aeonsГ‚ .[8]
The Gnostics argued that the God of the Jews either did not know about the Supreme Being or if
he did know, he concealed the identity. The Gnostics went on to argue that Jesus Christ came as
a messenger of the Supreme Being to bring Г‚ gnosisГ‚ . As he was Divine, he temporarily
inhabited a human body which was that of Jesus. He did not die and he was not resurrected. They
were just Г‚ play actingГ‚ (the doctrine known as Г‚ docetismГ‚ )[9]
Like the Gnostics, a Christian thinker called Marcion was determined to pull Christianity away
from its Jewish roots. He maintained, like the Gnostics, that the God of the Old

European Influence On Native Americans
Although Native Americans would have grown and prospered after ejecting European colonists
from the New World, it would be foolish to assume that European nations would never breach the
Americas. While it is true that Europeans would be unable to overpower a fully intact Native
American presence, eventually, Europeans would seize the Americasthe same way they conquered
not only Africa, but Asia as well. As time passed, technology boomed, and the Industrial Revolution
mechanized the European world. With their newly invigorated might, the chasm separating
European technology and that of the rest of the world split wider. With innovations including
railroads, telegraphs, advanced firearms such as the Gatling gun, steam engines, and sophisticated...

These systems required labor in order to operate. Originally, European colonists utilized native
labor, but seeing as Native Americans quickly perished as a result of disease, colonists resorted
to importing laborers from Africa. The necessity of African slavery in the American colonies
became the reason for the largest forced migration in history, as at least 12 million Africans were
carried across the Atlantic between the years 1500 and 1860, when the Atlantic slave trade was
ended. The Middle Passage, the journey from Africa to the New World across the Atlantic, was
responsible for the deaths of nearly 2 million African slaves since slave carrying boats were often
filthy and overcrowded, unscrupulously jampacked with human cargo in an effort to utilize the
boat s capacity and to increase the efficiency and profit of each trip (Gates). Had Native Americans
been immune to European pathogens, they would have prevented any large scale European
settlements from occurring in the Americas; therefore, plantations, mines, and other labor intensive
projects would be impractical for European explorers, and the necessitation of slave labor would be
nonexistent. As a result, the largest forced migration in world history would be avoided. Even after
Europe underwent the Industrial

Control The Rest Analysis
When people hear the word happiness they think of many different things but what we don t
really think of is how do we actually become happy, Do we actually have control over how happy
we are?
After reading different articles and watching a couple of Ted Talks I do believe we strongly
influence and control how happy we actually are for example in The Key to Happiness: Partly
Genetic, But You Control The Rest the article talks about genetics and how that affects our level
of happiness and how twins are usually just as happy as the other the article states that genetics
are 50% of our happiness which came from research of twins who were separated at birth The
researchers have come up with a formula that they have used in a number of publications. It s 50
percent genetics. The circumstances we find ourselves in like where we live, the quality of our
love lives, whether we have a few bucks in the bank account for only about 10 percent. The
remaining 40 percent is within our control, how we think and behave. The article basically states
that we do does greatly influence our happiness, even though half of it comes from our genetics.

Materialism certainly can give us a kind of happiness the temporary thrill of buying something
new, and the ego inflating thrill of owning it afterwards and we use this kind of happiness to try to
override or compensate for the fundamental unhappiness inside us which refers to the fact that we
use the short amount of satisfaction that we get from buying a new outfit or shoes or any material
item to try to hide the fact that we are unhappy. So even though we believe that buying things for
ourselves will make us happy it doesn t

Best Buy in Crisis
Introduction
At the end of fiscal 2012, Best Buy found itself in an increasingly challenging situation. Although it
could still claim to be the world s largest consumer electronics retailer with $50.7 billion in
revenues, growth for the year, at 0.9% was anemic. Meanwhile, Amazon s sales in Best Buys
categories were growing at more than 50% p.a. and its total sales, at $48 billion, were approaching
those of Best Buy. Operating profits were also disappointing having dropped 54% to $1.1 billion
and net income fell into the red at $1.2 billion. The fiscal 2012 year end stock price fell to $24.70,
down from a high of $53.86 in 2006. In five years, Best Buy ... Show more content on

In 1988, personal computers were added to the product line. Four years into the superstore
strategy, Highland, the industry number two, lowered its prices in Minneapolis, Best Buy s
heartland, selling at 10% above cost. Best Buy margins fell sharply. In search of a new approach,
Best Buy conducted consumer research and discovered the customers had a poor image of
superstores. They saw shopping as a stressful experience and felt pressured by salespeople into
buying expensive items. Customers wanted an enjoyable shopping experience and a no pressure
selling environment.
Concept II: 1989 1994
In response to this consumer research, Best Buy implemented a ground breaking grab and go
store format in 1989 called Concept II. Backroom space in stores was turned into sales space and
the inventory was put out on display with basic information labels so that customers could see what
was in stock and understand the product without explanations from sales staff. Salaried product
specialists replaced commissioned sales staff and, rather than pushing products on customers,
patiently waited in department centers for customers who sought help. The format proved very
popular, and by fiscal 1994, Best Buy operated 151 stores generating $3.0 billion in revenue and
$77 million in operating profits. In the process, Best Buy entered Chicago and Texas, Highlands
core territories, and the company went bankrupt.

Figure 1: A summary of the various types of Pukulan found in the Kompang Ezhar (Abdullah, 2005)
In Kompang, rhythm is mainly characterized by the interlocking of different parts divided within
the Kompang ensemble. Interlocking is basically done with two or more Kompangs playing
simultaneously, with one part playing the Basic beat which is usually the downbeats; another part
playing the Rhythm beat which is usually the off beats; and an additional part(s) playing the
Leading beat which is usually characterized by triplets or a syncopated rhythm that creates a unique
interlocking texture specific to the Malay Kompang musical genre (Hahril, 2010). In addition,
instrumentation is a musical element that is relatively fixed in Kompang; there is usually a group
of Kompangs playing together, and occasionally, accompanying voice.
1.3 Performance Context
In the Singaporean context, the Malay Kompang is usually seen performed at weddings and
celebratory ceremonies, or at traditional showcases. As the Kompang is usually performed in large,
open spaces, it

Netflix Competitive Analysis
1. A key business goal was to reduce the cost of building the DVD library. One tactic used to
achieve this goal was to stimulate demand on older and lesser know movie titles. Shifting demand
away from higher cost new releases drove down the average price of acquiring DVDs and
improved asset utilization. This produced increased margins and profitability.
To balance demand Netflix developed a proprietary recommendation system. The system enabled
the transition from a manual one size fits all promotion approach to an automated data driven
marketing plan that delivered personalized recommendations across the entire movie library.
Effectively, the recommendation system outsourced the task of marketing to the subscriber. The

The use of technology has allowed Netflix to build a profitable business by taking advantage of the
uniform pricing differential cost concept. They also leveraged technology to enhance the value
proposition and overcome the shipping delay and reduce the cost of building their DVD library.
Technology has enabled them to deliver a differentiated service based on the automation of key
processes. This in turn has built a competitive advantage over the traditional retail stores.

Analysis Of Mccloskey s On Being An Atheist
In McCloskey s (1968) article On Being an Atheist , the arguments for the existence of God are
rebutted and some compelling reasons are given in order to enlighten some other atheists who
might be struggling to defend their beliefs. Firstly, McCloskey (1968) opens his discussion by
asserting that the three main proofs (teleological, cosmological, and argument from design) of God
s existenceare not the basic nor the right proofs with which to arrive at a vague (p.51) conclusion
that states the existence of a necessary being. These proofs have not been considered by the
serious theologians, but instead, they have been the excuse of the parson (McCloskey, 1968).
However, McCloskey misses the point made by such arguments by assuming that such defenses are
a definite proof of the existence of God. To regard something as a proof, one must know that the
argument being made is certain and incorrigible, but the arguments made by the theist are said to
be defeasible, not incorrigible or certain (Foreman, 2012). This mean that the arguments can be
regarded as true unless a defeater, which if it were true, would defeat the argument (Foreman,
2012). Then, if the classical arguments used by the theist to advocate for God s existence are
defeasible and not proofs as McCloskey claims, and no defeater has been shown to be true, there is
no need to abandon such arguments.
Secondly, McCloskey discusses the cosmological argumentand states that there is no reason for
believing that the

Elizabeth Blackburn Research Paper
Elizabeth Blackburn is an amazing woman; who comes from a family of physicians. She has
always had a passion for animals and science; she found biology to be her favorite subject in
school. She was fascinated by the visual impacts of science through books. Perhaps, it is her
enthusiasm for biology that inspired her to be one of the leading biochemists today. Elizabeth
helped in the discovery of the fountain of youth. Elizabeth and two of her colleagues discovered a
way for chromosomes to be copied during cell division. Within this discovery, they also found a
unique DNAsequence in the telomeres that protects these cells against degradation. In 2009, Dr.
Blackburn was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine.
Blackburn was born in 1948, in the city of Hobart in Tasmania, Australia. Elizabeth is the second
oldest of seven children. Her parents, uncle, and her aunt were all physicians and her grandfather
(on her father s side) collected Cleopatra beetles. When she was four years old, her family moved
to the town of Launceston. In Launceston, she attended the Broadland House Church of England
Girls Grammar School. At sixteen years old, her family relocated to Melbourne, Australia.
Elizabeth gained very high marks in the end of the year final statewide matriculation exams while
attending University High School. As a child, she was always curious about animals. The family
had several pets including rabbits and, fish, and guinea pigs over her adolescent years. Elizabeth

What Is The Culture Of India Essay
The culture of India is the way of living of the people of India. India s languages, religions, dance,
music, architecture, food, and customs differ from place to place within the country. The Indian
culture, often labeled as an amalgamation of several cultures, spans across the Indian subcontinent
and has been influenced by a history that is several millennia old. Many elements of Indias diverse
cultures, such as Indian religions, yoga and Indian cuisine, have had a profound impact across the
world.

Sen observes that external images of India in the West often tend to emphasise the difference real or
imagined between India and the West. There is a considerable inclination in the Western countries
to distance and highlight the differences in Indian culture from the mainstream of Western
traditions, rather than discover and show similarities. Western writers and media usually misses, in
important ways, crucial aspects of Indian culture and traditions. The deep seated heterogeneity of
Indian traditions, in different parts of India, is neglected in these homogenised description of India.
The perceptions of Indian culture, by those who weren t born and raised in India, tend to be one of

The attack, which occurred on April 19, 1995, destroyed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, a
U.S. office complex in downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This attack is considered to be the
deadliest domestic terrorist attack in the history of the United States, and, until September 11, 2001,
the deadliest attack of terrorism within U.S. borders, but not the worst against the U.S. (the worst
act of terrorism against the U.S. before the Oklahoma City bombing was Pam Am Flight 103) (http:

By being the first major American city to suffer a mass casualty terrorist attack, Oklahoma City s

The effect of the bombing on the city was immense 168 confirmed dead, including 19 children and

Reflection About Perseverance
The Apostle Peter s words of wisdom in 2 Peter 1:5 8 gives directions on being a servant to God.
As Peter spoke to the church there were many outside and inside church influences that are
deceiving to a Christian. Those deceptions are still active today in our own society. To mature in
our faith, Peter provides the characters of virtue, knowledge, self control, perseverance godliness,
mutual affection, and love. Each characteristic is important and coddles each other. However,
perseverance is the focus of this particular blog.
Perseverance is defined as a steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, especially
in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement (Perserverance, n.d.). As we are almost at
the half way mark of our program, I cannot help but to reflect on the term. Over the last year we
have all had difficulties in reaching the Fall semester, but we all overcame and continued the
pursuit for knowledge. We could not have done this without God s intercession into our lives.
There has been times, even today as I write this, I want to cave in to the lies whispers in my ears.
Knowing God has made this possible and continues to work wonders in my life encourages me to
be persistent in the pursuit.
Through the blood of Jesus Christ, we are no longer slaves to the world of sin. We have been
given a precious gift of eternal life through Jesus. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of
God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord . Peter starts the chapter by introducing himself as
Simon in 2 Peter 1:1 (2 Peter 1:1 New King James [NKJ]). He does this to announce to his
audience, he was once a slave to the world, but now a bondservant to Jesus. Who he was is no
longer the case, we have been adopted by the Father,
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing
in the heavenly places in Christ., just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world,
that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption
as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will (Ephesians 1:3 5
KJV).
In building our relationship with Jesus it is imperative that we

  • 2. The World Is Flat Case Study 4.The World is Flat, The Looming Challenge to U.S. Competitiveness, Restoring American Competitiveness, Can Americans Compete? a.Discuss the combined message) and implications of Thomas Friedman s THREE video presentations. How did the world become flat? What does it mean for businesses and for the expanded work force (like you and me), now that the world is hyper connected and flat? Thomas Friedman s videos discussing how the world is flat was in relation to the economy and not the actual geographical structure. Globalization has taken over and while we have more information at our fingertips now more so than ever we are on a flat playing field. We are part of a never ending global supply change which is constantly changing, and companies must learn to adapt or fall away. The dot.com boom is what led to the globalization, and it spiraled with outsourcing and global collaboration via the internet. Average is no longer good enough, you must be above average in business to stay afloat and be competitive. Gone are the days of businesses only having to appeal to their local and regional markets, they must now appeal to global markets. With the ability to connected with each other throughout the world, globalization began to make the world flat. Everyone is focused on the bottom dollar, outsourcing is at an all time high and you can get information, data for free if you look hard enough which contributes to the flattening. A global economy can become competitive with the appropriate education, investments, stable government and infrastructure. The playing field has been leveled in thanks to the internet and globalization. How do we survive globalization and the world being flat, Friedman provides us with advice within his videos on how to survive globalization and be competitive. Thinking like a waitress, entrepreneurially; you will be nice and accommodating to your customers in hopes to get a better tip, therefore standing above the rest and having a higher income. Thinking like an immigrant, working nonstop until you make it; immigrants come to countries with nothing and find ways to build on what little they have and turn it into something worthwhile; be optimistic and work harder than everyone else. • 3. Andy Warhol s The Last Supper Andy Warhol was the revolutionaire who led America and the rest of the world into an era of pop art with his iconic style. For many his ascent echoes one of pop art s ambitions, to bring popular styles and subjects into the exclusive salons of high art. His crowning achievement was the elevation of his own persona to the level of a popular icon, representing a new kind of fame and celebrity for a fine artist (The Art Story). Although very famous in later life, he had a simple childhood; he was often sickly and he would spend time at home. Since he had a lot of time to himself he would start to use that time to learn about pop culture, and this is when he began to have an interest in art. He commenced his career by drawing shoe advertisements,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This superior piece uses emphasis by creating a monotony of the same image of Christ many times. He uses pattern but he adds variation to make it stand out. These changes show the great power that society traps us in by showing the same images many times. Andy Warhol s creative skill with proportion and contrast of the motorcycles gives the distinct impression that some are farther in the background than others. This also shows the superior skill of knowing what he was doing, which is a talent left out much in art ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Argumentative Essay About The Truman Show The Truman Show Reading and Creating Piece Sunny Ou 10C Essay Topic: Similar to his interview on Trutalk, write an interview with Christof, which takes place after the final episode, in which he justifies his actions and responds to Truman s decision to leave the world of Seahaven. Clive: To everyone around the world tuning into this exclusive interview with none other than Christof, we sincerely welcome you all to this special broadcast. Clive: You were willing to capsize him, is that not similar to letting him die. Christof: Similar to a reasonable extent, The Truman Show has become a highly recognized worldwide show, we could not have such an abrupt ending and Truman would have most likely survived. We would have accumulated a procedure, identical to how we saved Truman s father. Even if Truman did die, at least it would increase our show ratings. Clive: Well, I m shocked to be honest, you just said that Truman was like a son to you and yet you were willing to let him die? Christof: Yes, that was true to a reasonable extent, however the chances of him actually dying were minimal. We would have done everything in our power to rescue Truman. Clive: So even if Truman did survive and was rescued back to land, wouldn t Truman be exposed to the truth and be aware that his life was being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Pros And Cons Of Survey Junkie Survey Junkie Survey Junkie Review Different from other sites, Survey Junkie is actually not a survey panel but what happens when you opt to join them, they will connect you to other survey panels. Hence, it acts as the link to use if you would wish to access other sites to earn money through surveys. The other thing about this site is that you will not be guided on how to make money through surveys and the only thing you get when you join is a list of survey panels that you can access. Complaints associated with Survey Junkie Meaningless membership When you join, they will require you to furnish them with all your details yet they are not a survey platform since all they provide is a list. Conclusion The process of making payments and including coupon codes as well is just somewhat suspicious and evidently, this appears more like a way of playing with one s mind innocently. This ought not to be the case if there is nothing to hide but if you are intending to partner with this site or any other that uses such a strategy, this should obviously capture your attention. Survey Junkie has also found a way of working with the twists and turns of up selling, funny membership and junk mails that are at the core of how the site benefits from each of these. It is basically a whole mix up of ways and means that are basically targeted on one thing; to ensure the owner gains from the pattern adopted and to keep those who have joined in close, by rewarding them once in a while. It is not all bad with this site and neither is it all good because based on these aspects, it is not one of the best anyway. One is better placed opting for other sites compared to Survey Junkie and though it might not necessarily be scam, you might either share in their bigger cake or end up ... In 1315 the bastide surrounds itself with a defensive wall form which we still can see 2 gates, 3 towers and almost the entire rampart. • 7. Immature Wuthering Heights In Wuthering Heights, both Edgar and Nelly have interesting views on Catherine. It s funny how they both have negative perspectives on her, but each have total differences. One person sees her as totally immature. The other sees her not using her full potential. However, the two see Catherine in different angles opposed to how they interacted, and how the had time to think on their own experiences. In Nelly s point of view I can to relate to what she sees. She sees Catherine as a big baby. I agree with her completely. Catherine just throws temper tantrums just to get her way. It shows every time she is displeased. Also, its just as the prompt says, she does it to get her own way. It s shown how she gives no care about herself, or others when she doesn t get what she wants.... • 8. The Mass Extermination Of European Jews Alexander Burgazzoli History 233 Exam 3 December 6, 2013 The mass extermination of European Jews was, without a doubt due to the actions of the Third Reich. The question up for debate was whether this extermination was a product of Adolf Hitler s methodical planning and execution under his direct order, or the accumulation of unplanned events driven by the Germans anti Semitic views? These two polar opposite views of intentionalism and structuralism both have convincing evidence that support each of their own theories. The intentionalism theory views Hitler as the mastermind behind the Final Solution, and all the events that led up to the death of nearly six million Jews. It is their idea that Hitler had been planning the annihilation of the Jewish community even years prior to him taking complete control over Germany. The anti Semitic view, the greater part of the German population shared could have been the driving force that leads structuralism ideas to form. This long lasting hatred for Jews, especially after enduring such a humiliating defeat in World War I only gave the rest of Germany more reason to turn on the Jews. They view these mass murders as simply an unplanned set of circumstances that lead to the Final Solution. If one is looking at the Nazi party from an intentionalist view point you could argue of a systematic chain of command that flowed from Hitler through all the ranks bellow him. This ideology had the perception that what could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Terry Malloy Analysis Marlon Brando as Terry Malloy conveys the tension and perplexity of an incoherent speaker attempting to frame his own particular personality in recognizable yet recently debilitating environment. He endeavors to be a person with solid standards, and his developments uncover his battle. He bites gum expressively, shrugs, falls behind, pulls his neckline up, and stuffs his hands in his pockets. These apprehensive, practically equivocal signals and practices speak to a distinct difference from the goons in Johnny Friendly s group. Despite the fact that they are similarly as verbally blank, the associates remain steadfast in threes, in strong caps and long jackets, beyond any doubt of what they re doing constantly. The colleagues look, while Malloy much of the time turns away. Impromptu creation implies going astray from the composed content and investigating a desire, a way, a riff, or an instinct since it feels right. Brando s apparently oblivious fiddling with the glove diverts from the whole musicality of the scene and adds to the unforeseen idea of each progression. It makes a moment dynamic. The principal dynamic is their private, fragile discussion, and the second offers significance to their physical cooperation. Dropping the glove makes Edie uncertain of what she needs to do with her body. She pushes unknowingly and reluctantly through different choices, even as she keeps up a private discussion. • 10. Meyerhold and His Contribution to Theatre VSEVOLOD EMILEVICH MEYERHOLD AND HIS CONTRIBUTION TO THEATRE Introduction Vsevolod Emielevich Meyerhold, considered one of 20th century greatest theatrical innovators, was born on February 10, 1874 in the Russian town of Penza. He was originally born into a Lutheran German Jewish family with the name Karl Theodore Kasmir Meyergold. In 1895 he took the name Vsevolod Emievich Meyerhold after converting to the Russian Orthourdox Church. Meyerhold studied Law at Moscow University for two terms. He became fascinated with the art of theatre and as his interest increased he registered for an acting class at the Moscow Art School. In the straight theatre the director takes the part of the author, and makes the actor see his work (author and director are one). After incorporating the author s work by way of the director, the actor comes face to face with the spectator (author and director at the actor s back), and acts freely while enjoying the give and take of the two main elements of theatre the player and the playgoer. The director alone must set the tone and style of a performance so that the straight theatre may not become chaotic, and yet the acting will remain free and unrestrained. This stylization leads Meyerhold to the arrangement of the stage with flat surfaces , specifically, to eliminate the scenery and present the actor, as a principal mechanism for theatrical expression. This marked the beginning of the deconstruction of the stage space. The disarrangement of the stage under Meyerhold is said to have had its climax in the constructive solution of The Magnificent Cuckold and The Death of Tarelkin. The stage in these two performances referred to above is said to have resembled the renaissance box, was made as dynamic as possible and put completely to the benefit of the performance itself by being stripped to a maximum extent; allowing only enough elements to enable the actor convey his ... The high demand for natural resources such as potash and natural gas fueled the economic boom. In 2011, Saskatchewan bragged about having the lowest unemployment rate in Canada at 4.5 per cent. • 15. Analysis Of John Nash s A Beautiful Mind ( Gazer Howard ) Maintaining accuracy while producing a biographical film is a difficult undertaking. It requires complex research and genuine understanding of the person in order to accurately represent them on screen. In 2001, film makers attempted to translate to screen the life of John Nash in A Beautiful Mind (Gazer Howard). John Nash, who is a notable figure in the world of academia and mathematics, won the Nobel Prize in economics for his game theory (Nash, 1994). Nash is also widely known for his long term struggle with mental illness and was diagnosed with schizophrenia during his mid thirties (Samels MacLowry, 2002). In order to examine the accuracy of this portrayal it is necessary to examine the aspects of schizophrenia displayed in the film such as the mannerisms, signs and symptoms, and forms of treatment; while comparing them to the actual realities of this disorder. One aspect depicted throughout the film are the various mannerisms of schizophrenia. Nash s character often displays agitated movements which are sometimes jerky in motion. Many times this is shown with head movements, hand gestures and even agitated pacing. This coincides with the National Institute of Mental Health s (2009) description of the mannerisms associated with schizophrenia. Individuals with diagnosed schizophrenia can display a flat affect, with no emotion and diminished facial expressions, as well as a catatonic stupor becoming non responsive to any type of stimulus (National Institute ... • 16. Analysis Of Moonlight By Barry Jenkins Barry Jenkins Moonlight depicts the coming of age of a young black boy as he struggles with and endures abuse for his sexuality, causing him to hide his internal conflicts. The life of the protagonist, Chiron, is split into his three main stages of life, with each part focusing on the physical and emotional abuse he endures due to his homosexual orientation. When the viewer first meets Chiron, he is running from bullies. As he ages, the bullyingfollows him, causing him to harden and avoid vulnerability in his adult life. Jenkins uses climactic scenes in Chiron s life to portray how prejudice against black sexuality forces him to conceal his true identity. The scene culminates with the characters distancing themselves from both each other and the audience. Rather than following the characters as they leave, the camera stays stable, leaving an empty space on screen in their absence. This absence of a figure on screen in their house hints at Chiron s lack of a home, a safe place to explore his individuality. Jenkins lighting and sound are also essential to the portrayal of this scene as a key moment in Chiron s struggle with his identity. These elements characterize Paula as an impeding obstacle to Chiron s self discovery. Chiron s face here is highlighted, while his mother s face is covered in shadows. This contrasts the two, indicating that the audience should be on Chiron s side and see the darkness within Paula. Typically, mothers in films are basked in warm light, indicating their nurturing relationships with their children. The shadows covering Paula s face, therefore, suggest that she is an absent mother figure, which soils Chiron s natural maturation. Furthermore, no sound can be heard from Paula, though the audience can read her lips and understand the nature of their conversation. Instead, classical music is audible. The use of no sound further establishes Paula as an absent figure in Chiron s life because she is seen, but not heard. Paula s body is basked in pink light until the end of the scene, when the light fades to reveal bluish green walls. In this film, Jenkins uses the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women In Fantomina TITLE Fantomina, written by Eliza Haywood in 1725, elicits revolutionary topics calling into question the woman s role in patriarchal societies and their lack of sexual freedom. I remember begging my dad to come on a trail ride with me and my younger brother. When he finally relented, I gave him a huge hug and kiss, not ever thinking that they could have been the last hug or kiss my dad might get from me. Once we got home, I ran upstairs to get changed into my riding clothes. I had gotten new riding pants and boots for Christmas and was eager to break them in. After all three of us changed our clothes, we bundled up and headed out to the barn. It is a cute little red barn with a tin roof, built in the 1800 s with three stalls, one my dad added in, and a huge hayloft. The aim of health psychologyis to promote and maintain health, prevent and treat illness, identify and diagnose the correlation between health, illness, and dysfunction, and to improve the health care system and the formation of health policies (Graham, 131). Personal Interest The field of health psychology interests me because I have personally seen the effects that psychological processes have on a person s health and well being. I was a caregiver to a family member with a chronic health issue called Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome. I witnessed how stress, negative thinking, and lack of social contact intensified their condition. Their physical health drastically declined when their mental and emotional health was in a negative place. I noticed how their depression compounded their pain, and in return, the pain exacerbated their depression. It was a on going vicious cycle. • 35. A Comparison of Haydn s Symphony No 95 With Beethoven s... A Comparison of Haydn s Symphony No. 95 with Beethoven s Symphony No. 5 Introduction As noted by Robert Hughes, Beethoven was not only the embodiment of all that was before him, but also of that which was yet to come (Hughes 486). The truth of this may be seen by comparing Beethoven s 5th Symphony in C Minor to Haydn, the father of Symphony, and his 95th in C Minor. While Haydn s symphony is both playful and dramatic, Beethoven s symphony is grander both in terms of scale and vision. He expands the size of the orchestra to incorporate the sounds swirling around, underlying, and depicting the arrival of Fate in a rhythm driven, thematic symphony that takes Haydn s form and runs with it as though to the top of a mountain peak. This paper will analyze the symphonies by movement, according to form, size, structure, tonalities, melodies, orchestral sound and overall mood and effect. 1st Movement Both Haydn s and Beethoven s first movements are composed in sonata form, with an exposition stated in the opening that is then developed and recapitulated. The size of Haydn s opening movement is somewhat smaller than Beethoven s, whose opening exposition itself seems larger than life. Haydn s first movement is roughly six minutes long, and the length of Beethoven s first movement only exceeds Haydn s by about a minute and a half to two minutes. Beethoven does not introduce too many structural changes to the traditional sonata form, which he learned from Haydn, in the first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The And New Zealand Media Essay This essay will demonstrate how both American and New Zealand media outlets shape and filter all their stories and decide what people see and think about, and how to think about certain stories; also known as Agenda Setting . New Zealand and America interpret news completely differently, what is important in America may have zero relevance to New Zealand media and vis versa. Agenda setting is more obvious in the New York times, they report on specific events to endorse and highlight events or issues in an attempt persuade their audiences how to think and feel about the stories. Whereas New Zealand news outlets have a less hidden agenda, trying to remain unbiased in their reporting and changing the layout and topics on their homepage continuously. This essay will be supported through Severin Tankard s discussion of Media Framing in Effects of Mass Communication, and also in Jim Macnamara s concept of agenda setting in Media Effects: A Review of 50 years of Research, and lastly, M.E. McComb s theory of agenda setting in The Agenda Setting function of Mass Media. The New York times focused on current events of the Olympics and Donald Trump with the presidential campaign, more serious and hard news. But where is the line drawn when it may be associated with the sexual exploitation of youth? R. v. Barabash, 2015 SCC 29 [Barabash] is a circumstantial case that centres on concerns of privacy rights involving private use, child pornography, as well as regarding the establishments of exploitation and consent. Barabash involved two fourteen year old girls who were runaways, dependant on drugs and involved in prostitution. According to Statistics Canada (2008) at the time of this case, youth aged 12 to 14 were twice as likely to experience sexual violence then that of young adults, this statistic was even higher if the victim is female (Sexual Assault, para. 4). While they were staying with two significantly older men they were involved in sexual activity that was videotaped and photographed. Under s.163.1(2) of the Criminal Code the men were charged for making child pornography as well as the older man was charged with possession of child pornography under s. 163.1(4). While the trial judge found all elements of the offences were established, the accused raised in defence the private use exception outlined in R. v. Sharpe, 2001 SCC 2 [Sharpe], which the judge failed to disprove beyond a reasonable doubt. • 51. Analysis Of Mccloskey s On Being An Atheist In McCloskey s (1968) article On Being an Atheist , the arguments for the existence of God are rebutted and some compelling reasons are given in order to enlighten some other atheists who might be struggling to defend their beliefs. Firstly, McCloskey (1968) opens his discussion by asserting that the three main proofs (teleological, cosmological, and argument from design) of God s existenceare not the basic nor the right proofs with which to arrive at a vague (p.51) conclusion that states the existence of a necessary being. These proofs have not been considered by the serious theologians, but instead, they have been the excuse of the parson (McCloskey, 1968). However, McCloskey misses the point made by such arguments by assuming that such defenses are a definite proof of the existence of God. To regard something as a proof, one must know that the argument being made is certain and incorrigible, but the arguments made by the theist are said to be defeasible, not incorrigible or certain (Foreman, 2012). This mean that the arguments can be regarded as true unless a defeater, which if it were true, would defeat the argument (Foreman, 2012). Then, if the classical arguments used by the theist to advocate for God s existence are defeasible and not proofs as McCloskey claims, and no defeater has been shown to be true, there is no need to abandon such arguments. The perceptions of Indian culture, by those who weren t born and raised in India, tend to be one of at least three categories, writes Sen: Exoticist approach: it concentrates on the wondrous aspects of the culture of India. This attack is considered to be the deadliest domestic terrorist attack in the history of the United States, and, until September 11, 2001, the deadliest attack of terrorism within U.S. borders, but not the worst against the U.S. (the worst act of terrorism against the U.S. before the Oklahoma City bombing was Pam Am Flight 103) (http: //en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Oklahoma_City_bombing). • 57. Reflection About Perseverance The Apostle Peter s words of wisdom in 2 Peter 1:5 8 gives directions on being a servant to God. As Peter spoke to the church there were many outside and inside church influences that are deceiving to a Christian. Those deceptions are still active today in our own society. To mature in our faith, Peter provides the characters of virtue, knowledge, self control, perseverance godliness, mutual affection, and love. Each characteristic is important and coddles each other. However, perseverance is the focus of this particular blog. Perseverance is defined as a steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement (Perserverance, n.d.). As we are almost at the half way mark of our program, I cannot help but to reflect on the term. Over the last year we have all had difficulties in reaching the Fall semester, but we all overcame and continued the pursuit for knowledge. We could not have done this without God s intercession into our lives. There has been times, even today as I write this, I want to cave in to the lies whispers in my ears. Knowing God has made this possible and continues to work wonders in my life encourages me to be persistent in the pursuit. Through the blood of Jesus Christ, we are no longer slaves to the world of sin. We have been given a precious gift of eternal life through Jesus. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord . Peter starts the chapter by introducing himself as Simon in 2 Peter 1:1 (2 Peter 1:1 New King James [NKJ]). He does this to announce to his audience, he was once a slave to the world, but now a bondservant to Jesus. Who he was is no longer the case, we have been adopted by the Father, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ., just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will (Ephesians 1:3 5 KJV). In building our relationship with Jesus it is imperative that we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
