The Beatles Essay examples
The Beatles
There have been more books published about one 20th century icon than any other, this band that
is said to have broken down barriers in all ways, is the
Beatles. Their music was said to have driven that younger generation mad.
Perhaps it was because they were one of the first bands ever play real rock and roll music; or
maybe it was those cute little peacoats they wore. Or maybe it was just because they were
foreigners in the world of music, yet seemed to fit right in with the young people. Whatever reason
was, the Beatles were a band that shaped a generation and ones soon to come.
The Beatles were more than just a rock and roll band , they were a group of young men who
wanted to go a new direction in music. John Lennon, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Luckily for the Beatles, the times were changing and McFall quickly changed the policy the Beatles
soon became regulars. This would be the club that would make them famous.
News of the band s Liverpool popularity soon became know throughout England and later a large
part of Europe. Shortly after their first tour of Hamburg,
Stuart, who had always been a better artist than musician left the band to pursue goals in the
visual arts field. Paul had dabbled in bass guitar and took his place. This was a transition period
for the members in the band, they were going from being Liverpool locals to being English stars. It
was about this time that the rest of the band and their manager Brian Epstien, began to notice
Pete s growing ego, and thought it would be best if he not be in the band.
Many fans were suprised and upset at the decision. When they heard Ringo
Starr one of the back up drummers, was joining they were calmed perhaps in anticipation of
hearing how the new member would fit in with the rest of the band. The result was fabulous. The
band was pleased with thier new addition and they quickly adapted to each others playing styles.
Ring was the final member to join the band and in October of 1962, just a few months after Ringo
joined the band, the Beatles had their first hit single, Love Me Do .
1963 and 1964 proved to be the most important years for the Beatles. During
1963 they created a sensation in Britain. The boys

Humanitarian Intervention
Introduction
Despite the decolonization occurred in the aftermath of the Second World War (1939 45), the
former colonial powers continue to apply existing and past international economic arrangements to
maintain colonial control over African countries. This can be witnessed in the military intervention
by western countries which is to some authors is done for humanitarian purposes or to expand neo
colonialism. Neo colonialism entails the domination in social, economic and culture of countries
from the developed world that is the western countries in the respective internal affairs of the
countries of the developing world that is African countries (jean Paul: 2001). Intervention is a term
which covers a wide variety of situations where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Military action in Libya was sanctioned by the Security Council under Chapter VII of the United
Nations Charter, which allows for such intervention in the case of a threat to international peace and
security which they have interpreted as including grave threats to civilians. The international
community, through the United Nations, also has the responsibility to use appropriate diplomatic,
humanitarian and other peaceful means, in accordance with Chapters VI and VIII of the Charter, to
help protect populations from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.
In this context, we are prepared to take collective action, in a timely and decisive manner, through
the Security Council, in accordance with the Charter, including Chapter VII, on a case by case
basis and in cooperation with relevant regional organizations as appropriate, should peaceful means
be inadequate.
In addition, there is a perception that western military intervention in Libya has taken priority
over efforts to secure a political resolution and that, beyond an evident desire to see the removal
of Gaddafi s regime, as this lies under the concept of responsibility to protect Libyan of their
rights(ABC:23 02 2011). In this case the Europeans wanted to promote elections so that people of
Libya will choose what is best for them

How Did Pat Tillman Show Loyalty
Somewhere inside, we hear a voice. It leads us in the direction of the person we wish to become.
But it is up to us whether or not we follow. Pat Tillman. Pat Tillman once said this, and from
looking at his life, you can see that he followed that voice. Tillman was born in San Jose,
California on November 6, 1976 to Mary and Patrick Tillman. He attended Leland High School
where he excelled at football. He went on to play at Arizona State University, where they took
notice of his incredible talent, and personality. After he graduated from Arizona State he was
drafted in the seventh round and ended up on the Cardinals. After September 11, 2001 Tillman was

Tillman graduated in only 3.5 years with a 3.84 grade point average. Adding to that Tillman

said he was going to do it, so he did it. He had this phrase that just shows how hard working he was.

Answer the following question:
Watch the Clay Shirky: Collaboration vs. Institution video clip in Module 2. Discuss what
implication can be drawn. How can the concept of using collaboration to replace institution impact
the Systems Analysis and Design? What modern best practices in Systems Analysis and Design are
following the collaboration model? Why?
In this video he throw light on organizing without organizations . His proposition is that there is
value going untapped which decreases the profitability of the organizations.
Clay Shirky clearly explained how closed groups and companies will give more freedom than
traditional organizations and also how they enable free flowing networks where small and average
contributors will have vital roles in the fluid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If 20% of people can make 80% of the valuable contributions, then organizations average
contribution will come down because of rest 80% contributors. Thus, the 80% constitute the group
for which the cost of coordination is institutionally uneconomical.
One main disadvantage is if entire world become a huge collaboration where no one is paid but a
certain few, but everything got done better than it had been before with more diversity. It is a very
good idea but on the other side we need to balance where the world still works. He chose very
good scenario which explained the need of collaboration to the modern world. He explained about
how carrots and sticks failed to motivate others to do what they have to, but in this scenario he told
about how they do work with these tasks.
The whole presentation is very well focused on the need of collaboration and how it makes
institutions fail because of the easier collaboration. It really makes the listener think about how this
is true in this present world and a list of what other systems follow collaboration in today s

The Myth Of Fourteenth Century Europe
During a period within fourteenth century Europe, a pestilence known as the bubonic plague
swept across eastern Asia and into England via trade, leaving millions dead in its wake. The
Black Plague arrived at a time of war and famine in Europe, only further devastating the lives of
medieval citizens. Religiously, socially, and politically, there were no immediate changes from
the Black Plague, however, a Catholic schism, the ability for social mobility, and standing armies
would develop in the following years, ultimately leading to sizable differences in life. The
essence of fourteenth century European life revolved around the Roman Catholic Church; the
papacy asserted spiritual rule and every individual was devoted to God and their beliefs.
Therefore, when the plague hit Europe and killed one third to one half of the entire population,
people questioned God as to why He would kill entire towns across the continent. Communities
prayed for forgiveness, believing they had committed a sin large enough to deserve such a disease,
however, clergymen, priests, and average citizens alike fell ill to the Black Plague, and none were
spared. After the plague diminished from Europe, the church had a schism which entailed three
popes at a single time, and the Renaissance led to a humanistic movement where people began to
turn to individualism. This new found set of ideals would further lead to a sixteenth century
reformation of the church, altering the course of history. The citizens of

Nurture Controversy
The biggest controversy in psychology today is whether genetics or one s environment plays a
role in the behavior of the individual. Psychologists have researched and developed different
theories to explain the reason for the way humans think and behave. The behavior of individuals is
either inherited or learned. In my opinion, I believe that nurture plays a big role in the individual s
behavior. Kendra Cherry states, Nurture refers to all the environmental variables that impact who
we are, including our early childhoodexperiences, how we were raised, our social relationships, and
our surrounding culture (1). People have become who there are because of the environment they
were exposed to in their childhood years. The behavior of people is influenced be the environment

Adults who were raised in a home with both parents usually have better relationships with their

Battle of Gettysburg Essay
What was supposed to last 90 days, now dragged on for more than two years. It was apparent,
now more than ever, that little was being accomplished but the taking of hundreds of thousands
of lives. The war between the Union and Confederacy had been in a sort of deadlock where each
side could claim victories as easy as defeats. By this time the south had the upper hand militarily
wise, just coming off a magnificent tactical victory at Chancellorsville in May. General Lee headed
the Confederacy s, Army of Northern Virginia, General Meade headed the Union s Army of the
Potomac. Both sides saw the need to win that one, crucial victory to turn the tide completely in their

By this point in the war, the citizens of the Confederacy were growing more and more doubtful
of their future as long as the war was being fought. Food was at a scarcity, money was gradually
becoming worthless and thousands of soldiers had been killed. Lee s army was having a lot of
success in Virginia since Fredericksburg in December 1862, but the war was exacting a heavy
toll on life in the south. It was becoming evident to Lee and President Davis so they knew they
had to get the spirit of the people to rise again. No better possible way to do so then by
obliterating the Army of the Potomac on northern soil. In doing so, General Lee hoped to not
only raise morale in his ranks and the south, but crush the northern spirit. A win here would for
sure demoralize even more, those opposing the war in the north, which might get public opinion
to swing to anti war. Also, Lee would pressure the north into sending troops from Washington,
weakening its defenses or possibly draw troops from Grant s army at Vicksburg. On the other
hand, General Meade s, Army of the Potomac also had reasons to win the battle. Newly appointed,
General George Meade, had a huge task ahead of him. He had just assumed command of the
Union s main eastern army and now he must halt Lee s advance. Two very difficult obstacles for
him but if he couldn t stop the Army of Northern Virginia then his country was in jeopardy. With the

An Open Letter For Friends And Family
An open letter to friends and family:
A Brief Intro/Background
This letter will no doubt be hard for many of you to read, I empathize as it was also hard to write.
I beg your patience and hope you read through to the end. What I would like to convey to you is
my recent shift in world view. That is to say that I recently came to realize that I am an atheist.
This is likely shocking to most of you. Let me be clear by what I intend to convey by identifying as
such. I do not mean to say I am opposed to religion, or claim there is no God. I still identify very
much with LDS culture and attend church regularly. Rather, I identify as an atheist as a way to
convey that I seem to have lost Faith that there is a God. Over the last year I have studied and
ponder in depth to discover as best I could truth. Before I get there I want to be clear as to the
perspective in which I am coming from.
I was raised in a very active and loving family of the LDS Church. My family is still very active,
my father and my mother have served in leadership roles. They are both full of faith and charity
and am grateful for their love and support throughout my life. I, myself have served in leadership
roles in the church both as a young man and as a missionary for the church. I served a 2 year
mission in west Texas spreading the gospel of JesusChrist as I understood it. I was married in an
LDS temple to my wonderful wife. My in laws are also very devout members of the LDS church.

The Body in Western and Non Western Cultures
How do people view the body? The answer varies from location, religion and culture. How
western cultures view the body and how the body is treated (our body and others) are different
from how non western cultures view and treat bodies. We can see the differences in the western
and non western bodies in such works as Anne Fadiman s account of a Hmong child in America
and in articles like Genital Surgeries: Gendering Bodies. Along with the many differences
between western and non western thoughts there are also several similarities. Especially when it
comes to metaphors of the body. The generalized western opinion of the body is that it is akin to an
object. Like a car the body is composed of several diverse aspects. From a medical... Show more

Women find that natural female genitals are unclean and ugly and the surgeries create a more
pleasing, smooth, and feminine genital area (page 95 Genital Surgeries)
For many women practicing genital surgery it is a form of cosmetic surgery. It has the same
purpose (to make the body look appealing) and some of the same risks (excessive bleeding and
tearing) as many cosmetic surgeries used in western cultures.
Although many western cultures denounce these practices as being barbaric and unfair these
western cultures actually practice genital surgery on children. For example, many baby boys in the
United States are circumcised at birth for both aesthetic reasons and for health concerns. Children
born with both male and female genitalia are seen as medical emergencies and surgeries to correct
this anomaly are done as soon as possible.
The western and non western view of the body is very different. As we infer from comparing the
western view of the body to the Hmong view of the body there are many ways to view the body
than the one we were brought up to believe. However, we can also see from western metaphors
and Hmong metaphors that a sick body is recognized by most people as being sick. We are also
able to see with genital surgery that although society standards are different for every culture each
culture uses surgery as a way to enhance the body and make it more pleasing to look at. Even with
drastically different views of the

Manmade Disasters and Insurance Coverage
The problem at hand is the mitigation of man made disasters, and the lessening affect on humanity
by natural disasters. Many man made disasters are instigated by a natural disaster that a population
is well aware of, yet they choose to ignore the risk because they are not personally involved or
think it will not happen to them. Up to now the alternatives have basically focused on remediation
by the governmentafter the fact. Somehow we have come to believe that if we build our house on a
sandbar that the government will make us whole when the hurricane washes it into the ocean. This
is faulty on so many levels. Government responsibility is an oxymoron in itself. In an article by
James Payne, he cites numerous incidents of the government being irresponsible and actually
causing more damage to the environment and populations because of mismanagement and poor
oversight (James, 2010). There is an inherent conflict of interest in hoping that your government
will protect you since the government requires funding and that funding can be hampered by
restricting business and construction. Your life and property becomes a riskthe government is
willing to take in exchange for development and taxes. Insurancecompanies provide another
alternative to this problem but they too are hindered by governmental regulations intended to help
people. Once again governmental agencies have infringed on the private enterprise ability to
resolve a problem. Left to their own devices insurance

Political corruption in Cuba can mainly be blamed on the drug trade in and out of Cuba. The drug

ZBMS Sdn. Bhd. manages its knowledge in order to remain competitive amongst the construction
industry. Probst, Raub Romhardt (1999, p.1) stressed that companies must learn to manage their
intellectual assets (i.e. knowledge) in order to survive and compete in the knowledge society .
Indeed, knowledge management is concerned with the exploitation and development of the
knowledge assets (Davenport et al., 1998). This paper seeks to examine the Accounting Information
Systems (AIS) used by a Malaysian company named ZBMS Sdn. Bhd. The paper will highlight the
users of the system and the way information adds value to the organisation. Also, the paper will
investigate the way knowledge is managed through the process of creating, storing, disseminating

A Study of the Healing Process from Slavery and Racism Essay
A battle lost or won is easily described, understood, and appreciated, but the moral growth of a
great nation requires reflection, as well as observation, to appreciate it. Frederick Douglass
When you think of slavery, you may want to consider the effects of an earthquake because that s
how powerful it was. Like many earthquakes, slavery produced various damaging ramifications
to everything around it. This included devastation to family structures and in worst cases the
loss of human life; and without doubt slavery claimed the lives of many just as Harriet Jacobs
expressed I once saw a slave girl dying after the birth of a child nearly white. In her agony she cried
out, O Lord, come and take me! Her mistress stood by, and mocked at... Show more content on

According to Frederick Douglass, it was the blood stained gate, the entrance to the hell of
slavery, through which I was about to pass. It was a most terrible spectacle. I wish I could
commit to paper the feelings with which I beheld it (p.4). Frederick Douglass and Toni Morrison
literatures examine the stigma of slavery, and the perceptions of its dangers. They illustrate what
life was like and the mental as well social impact it had on enslaved African Americans and their
life after gaining freedom. Richard Wright convinces his audience in Black Boy that he was tired of
the limitations and outcries in the South I was not leaving the South to forget the South, but so that
some day I might understand it, might come to know what its rigors had done to me, its children
(284). Alice Walker obtains her readers attention by transforming young women into their own
characters with a voice using spiritual guidance. In Native Son, Bigger has achieved is lost after
being apprehended and brought into captivity, as he transitions back into silence and passivity and
begins to recover only in his final confrontation, whereas Douglass in the same prevailing
convention, only heals after the regaining of his freedom. Through these literatures, and many
others, African Americans find multiple ways to alleviate and recover from the intensity of
undesired bondage and bigotry. In essence, Douglass born into

Miller s Vaccination Theory
Known as a key advisor on vaccination policies Professor Miller began her research in after
joining the Public Health Laboratory Service. After the fall of the whooping cough that spread
throughout the UK she started studying the pertussis vaccine. Due to the stories that the vaccine
caused brain damage, Professor Miller began her studies to find if the allegations were due to the
vaccineor just rare cases. Due to the lack of technology during this time, it took Professor Miller
several years to prove that the vaccine was safe for use. During the 1990 s there was another
vaccine scare that hit the UK which claimed that the vaccine MMR caused autism. Because of
the advance technology during this time the study was done faster and more cost efficient.
Professor Miller states that the majority of the controversies associated with vaccines come from
individuals she called the anti vaxxers . Meaning that those who do not believe in giving the
children vaccines start rumors of the vaccine causing rare diseases as a side effect. Miller goes on
to say that these anti vaxxers even tried to that a child could receive what they called an overload to
their immune systemfrom being administered too many vaccines. After several studies Professor
Miller and her team proved this theory to be incorrect. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

How To Repair Your Concrete Walkway So It s Safe And Attractive
The walkway to your front door should be kept in good condition so it doesn t ruin the appearance
of your home. Repairing cracks is important so no one trips and falls on your property. Falling on
concrete could break a bone or cause a head injury. You could even get sued for not maintaining
your walkway properly and creating a hazard. Here are a few tips for repairing cracks in your
concrete walkway and improving its appearance.
Fill In The Cracks
You can probably fill in small cracks yourself. Start by cleaning your walkway to get rid of sand
and dirt. Focus on getting debris and weeds out of all the cracks. You can buy concrete crack
filler in a squeeze container that s easy to use. Just squeeze the filler into the crack and scrape off
the excess, so the surface is level. Filling big cracks takes a little more work. To get the filler to
adhere properly, you ll need to widen the bottom of the crack. With the bottom wider than the top,
the filler will be trapped in place.
Use a pick and hammer to knock pieces of concrete loose from the bottom of the crack, being
careful not to make the top of the crack any wider. You may want to buy a bag... Show more

Call a concrete contractor to take a look and offer an opinion. Grinding the higher side of the
crack will make your walkway even again, and it is much less expensive than tearing out part of
the sidewalk and putting in new concrete. The contractor can grind away all raised portions of
your sidewalk so it is level and safe. The contractor can fill in the cracks and apply a coating on
the concrete to restore its appearance, or leave that job to you. Another time you may need to hire
a contractor is when your walkway has crumbling sides. Those need to be repaired by creating a
wooden frame along the walkway and then filling it in with

its own independent country and the people should be called Macedonians instead of Greeks.
Macedonia was formed by mainly Europeans and they established their own cultural ways.
Looking back at the settlers of Macedonia, it is apparent that most of the people were from the
European area, having a major impact on how the everyday culture and life was. A major impact
that these people had on the culture was the formation of the Macedonian language. This
language was different than the dominate language that is spoken in Greece, Greek. With
Macedonia having it s own culture and language separate from Greece shows that they are
indeed their own state and should be acknowledges accordingly. When looking back at 1913
when Greece took the southern region of Macedonia the boarders were never changed making
Greece and Macedonia separate however, still ruled by the Greeks. The map above shows the
the divid of the Macedonia when the 1912 partition took place. Although Greece had control of
the land it was still added to the boarder of Greece. Macedonian s believe that since they were

Loyalty And Determination In The Odyssey

these novels Odysseusand John show loyalty and determination through dependence, trust, and

Odysseus and his men came across the Lotus while on their journey. After the men consumed the

exemplifies loyalty to his men by tying them down under their rowing benches in order to keep
them safe and far away from any danger. This shows the dependence and trust that these men have

What are the causes of discrimination?
People act without thinking, and sometimes say things that hurt others. Discrimination happens
when you or someone else treat someone unfairly. For example, making fun of their skin color, their
appearance, culture, language, age, etc. The outcome of discrimination has its causes and effects.
Welcome to the world of discrimination.
Discrimination is often based on ignorance, prejudices and negative stereotypes. Because many
people fear what seems strange or unknown, they react with suspicion or even violence to anyone
whose appearance, culture or behavior is unfamiliar.
Attitudes, actions or institutional practices that subordinate or marginalize anyone can be
considered discrimination. Racism in particular has historical roots in beliefs in the superiority of
one group over another, beliefs that were once used to justify discrimination against inferior groups.
Although such beliefs are now widely rejected, racial discrimination nevertheless continues to exist.
Other forms of discrimination include sexism, ageism, homophobia, anti Semitism and

I Stand Here Ironing, By Tillie Olsen
I Stand Here Ironing, which is a popular short story by Tillie Olsen describing the hard lives of
people during The Great Depression in the 1930s, focuses on the numerous difficulties of a
mother who had to take care of a child by herself. The short story begins with a view of an
apartment room where a woman is ironing. Her work is interrupted by a call asking for her help
for understanding Emily, her first daughter. By recalling and gathering all memories between her
and Emily, the narrator realizes that there are a lot of things which make her feel guilty and
regretful about her daughter. In the end, turning back to the present, she believes that Emily will
be fine with her true value inside despite of the rocky childhood. In the setting, the narrator is
doing her housework, ironing, as an ordinary activity at every late night weekend after taking her
children to bed. Actually, the ironing, which is such a boring work for everyone, makes her mind
easily follow the mental process of flashback about Emily s childhood, especially after she receives
a call from Emily s counselor.
By the time of the post Great Depression, most of working class families still lived in the small,
old and hovel apartments in urban or suburban areas. Each apartment only had two or three rooms
where all family members had to share their spaces to live. Under the glimmering, dim yellow light
of a lamp, the room in the setting appears as little, simple living room which is combined with the

Monopoly has developed from the Landlord s Game to Monopoly. The original purpose of was
to show how Henry George s system of political economy would work in real life (Dodson). One
of the first versions of the game featured a path that allowed players to circle the board, in
contrast to the linear path design used by many games at the time (Mary Pilon). After Magie
made the game, it become very well liked, so she decided to make another version and patent it.
This new version had named streets and other appearance changes such as a rectangular board
(Edward J. Dodson). A few years later, by the late 1920s, Magie and the creators changed the
design by gathering the properties into groups, allowing buildings to be added to the locations
and increasing the amount of rent charged based on the number of properties owned. In 1934,
Charles B. Darrow, developed his own game for public release and used the streets of Atlantic
City, New Jersey (Galley and Briavel). This was later known as Monopoly. As soon as he created
the game, he offered to sell the board game to the Parker brothers that same year, but they were not
interested. A year later in 1935, they changed their thoughts and purchased the company (Matthew
Horton). The game was officially and continues to be owned by the Parker brothers. Monopoly has

This astronomical figure is difficult to fully grasp. To break it down in simple terms; that
amounts to $61,55 per US citizen, and $166,775 per tax payer. With the median income at just
over $30,000, there is simply no way the nation can pay the debt off by raising taxes alone
(Federal Reserve, 2017). At issue, who owns this debt? The US Citizen does, strangely enough
at 65.6%. Social Security owns roughly 16%, other federal entities own 13% and the Federal
Reserve owns an additional 12%. The other 34.4% of US debt is owned by other countries and
foreign interests (Patton, 2014). This could potentially lead to national security issues if the
foreign investors decided to cash in Treasury securities all at once. That is not likely as the United
States is still one of the most secure places to invest. In addition, being arguably the most powerful

Children s access to Material Assistance
The Australian Human Rights Commission headed an inquiry into the children living conditions in
detention centres and through this inquiry accumulated evidence of human rights breaches,
breached by to Australian Government in relation to children. One such area they documented was
concerning the provision of clothing and footwear provided to children. After conducting this
inquiry they found that the delivery of essential goods was inadequate for many children in
detention centres. A 13 year old girl living on Nauru explained her struggles living with little
clothing,

Children Asylum Seekers
It is evident children held in detention centres shows a significantly higher level of mental health
deterioration and issues than Australian children. The levels of mental distress among children is
confirmed by the high rate of self harm. The Department of Immigration and Border Protection
confirmed that from January 2013 to March 2014, 128 children in detention engaged in self harm,
with over 170 children threating to commit self harm. It is clear that children are so unhappy with
the treatment inflicting on them in these detention centres that they are resulted to self harm.
A survey was conducted by the Australian Human RightsCommission asking parents and children
to use three words to describe the experience of detention. Out of all the option they could have

Cochlear Implants And Other Communication Disorders
I first learned about cochlear implants in my special education class. My initial thought was that
they were a beneficial advancement in technology and in the medical field for those who were
deaf or hard of hearing. In my field experience, I observed a sixth grade teacher at Donnell Middle
School. In her class, I observed two students who had cochlear implants and an interpreter who was
in front of the classroom signing what the teacher was saying. I thought that was really neat to see
and experience for the first time. Through further research on cochlear implants, I came to the
conclusion that cochlear implants do not fix the patient s hearing entirely and that there are many
positive and negative factors to consider when getting a cochlear implant. So what is a cochlear
implant? According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders,
A cochlear implant is a small, complex electronic device that can help to provide a sense of
sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard of hearing. The implant consists of an
external portion that sits behind the ear and a second portion that is surgically placed under the
skin (NIDCD). Cochlear implants do not restore a person s hearing and work differently from a
hearing aid. The implants, bypass damaged portions of the ear and directly stimulate the auditory
nerve. Signals generated by the implant are sent by way of the auditory nerve to the brain, which
recognizes the signals as sound

Tesco Net Profit Analysis
3.2.2 Net profit margin comparison
Net profit margin is a commonly used profitability measurement tool which assesses firm s net
profit by comparing to its sales revenue. It is quite an appropriate measure of a firm s profitability
position because it considers the net income after tax rather the gross income (Bryman, 2008). Net
profit margin of both J Sainsbury Plc and its comparable firm TescoPlc is given in the following
table:
Table 1: Net profit margin of J Sainsbury Plc. Tesco Plc. from 2013 to 2015

However back then the ratios of the two companies were comparable but their gap turned
massive as Tesco hit an extreme low in 2015 with a negative ratio of 0.092993385 where Tesco
generated an operating loss twice as large as the operating profit it made in 2014. One of the main
circumstances leading to this loss making Tesco is the ВЈ263m accounting scandal that hit the
supermarket last year (Neville, 2015). As a result many costs have hit Tesco s profits turning it into
a loss such as restructuring costs including redundancy and compensation costs related to changes
in store colleague working arrangements in the UK, Europe and Asia, redundancy costs relating to
Head Office restructures across the Group, and the redundancy cost of store closures in the UK.
ВЈ266m has been recognized in costs of sales and ВЈ150m within administrative expenses. (Tesco,
2015)
J Sainsbury Plc is in a stable position and it is in better position in all the three years than the net
profit margin of Tesco. This is the consequence of better implementation and introduction of higher
quality products in their sales mix.

Introduction
Question: How many utilitarian s does it take to screw in a light bulb? Answer: As many as are
happy screwing in light bulbs! I want to stop philosophizing; but I Kant! Ha ha. Kant is all about
rules and Bentham about the consequences. Jeremy Bentham, a British philosopher, economist,
jurist, human rights activist and the chief expounder of Utilitarianism. Bentham born a prodigy,
graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree at sixteen years old. He was a radical philosopher of law
and politics and gave ideas which were way ahead of his time. Immanuel Kant, a German
philosopher, considered the most influential thinker of the Enlightenment era and one of the

As the founder of utilitarianism, Bentham believes that an act is considered just if it produces the
most happiness and the least pain for the greatest number of people affected directly, or indirectly
by that action. For Bentham, happiness means giving sovereignty to pleasure over pain. Contrarily,
Kant proposes that only duty and rules should dictate our actions, as the outcome is beyond our
control. To Kant the only thing that matters is good will. His theory suggests that an action is
either just or unjust regardless of the consequences of that same action. Bentham tried to attain his
theory through hedonism and Kant his through universal maxims, neither theory beneficial to
everyone. In addition, Jeremy Bentham s theory is flawed because it only considers the most
happiness caused by a moral action, it neglects minorities. Similarly, Kant fully ignoring the
consequences of a moral action is not a worthy idea, because at times, we may have more than one
duty or obligation to

Deception in The Tempest Essay
The passage below is found in the opening act of one of Shakespeare s most illusive plays of
control and manipulation. The word deception is defined as the act of misleading or to trick, cheat,
lie, and mislead . From this definition, it is obvious that deception is normally perceived to be evil
and results in the harm of others mentally and physically. It leads to broken hearts, untold truths, or
even unpunished murder. However, in Shakespeare s The Tempest, deception is used as a virtuous
art to manipulate an unjust situation and rectify it.

Although, the normally evil deception is used, Prospero uses it in such a way so that no harm is
brought to anyone, and all the characters are brought to their rightful positions by the play s
conclusion. Through his own works he changes the minds of his enemies (Tillyard 120). All of
the action develops in a world which defies nature, so the events are more believable . The island
is not only uncharted, it is one on which anything can happen (Knox 128). In the words of Gonzalo:
All torment, trouble, wonder, and amazement Inhabits here. Some heavenly power guide us Out of
this fearful country! (Shakespeare 78)
Miranda had been bred up in the island with her father and a monster only: she did not know, as
others do, what sort of creatures were in a ship (Coleridge 109). In fact, Miranda knew basically
nothing about her past or her identity until the start of the play. Her father has, in a way, been
deceiving her throughout her entire life. Even throughout the course of the play, Prospero is not
completely open with his daughter. Instead, he puts her to sleep for a period of time so that she
does not interfere with his plan. Through this deception her father was not trying to harm her in any
way but rather to protect her from the vicious truth.
The characters which were on the ship are now separated into various groups and spread apart
from one another across the island. The first group Prospero

The Origins Of Jazz Into Hiphop
This semester we have learned about various artists that come from different genres. Learning
about the Origins of Jazz into Hiphop was interesting. There are a lot of similarities between
many of the artists back then with the artists of this time period. It was interesting learning about
how much the music related to the social causes happening around certain time periods. It is
almost as if music became a problem free zone for musicians of that time; it was an escape. Of the
various artists there are three that come to my mind when I think about their influence to their time
period as well as their influences to future times periods. These artist included, Jimi Hendrix,
James Brown, and Elvis Presley. Elvis Presley was an important Rock and Rollartist of his time
period. He was known for being a rebel and supposedly causing white people to rebel as blacks
did. Rock and Roll itself was known as the rebel s music. It was a controversial genre that wired
up young Americans. Regardless of the artist, Rock and Roll was thought of being the reason why
the youth was being corrupted. Critics would try to sensor the music, but failed. By the late 1960s,
rock music was the accepted musical vocabulary of young people world wide. Rock and Roll gave
shape to the cultural movements going on around the world. In the United States, rock and roll
music could no longer ignore social conditions. Artists had to start contributing to the events going

Young Americans For Freedom Analysis
In contrast, the American liberal ideologues of the time seemed to be swinging more and more to
the left even in the face of the now all powerful Soviet Union from which Rand had previously
escaped. While Eugene Debs ultimately never achieved a meaningful socialist coalition, the labor
movements of the early 20th century had continuously scored major victories in establishing unions
and increasingly stringent labor standards. By 1932, the Great Depression had destroyed much of
the earned material wealth of millions of Americans and left those same Americans with little in the
way of opportunity. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, a cousin of former President Teddy Roosevelt and
an ardent liberal, beat the beleaguered incumbent Herbert Hoover in the... Show more content on

argument. According to Deborah Homsher, author of Women Guns: Politics and the Culture of

It simply sends out a wrong message, effectively rewarding them for breaking the law. Another
obstacle is that it would cause major problems in terms of jobs and crime. According to Pia
(2012) amnesty can result in reducing overall wages and make it difficult for some workers to
find a job and that after receiving an amnesty they pay less in taxes than what they receive in
services. So, it can be inferred that amnesty is not that efficient solution when it comes to
diminishing the phenomenon of illegal immigration. After mentioning amnesty another debatable
solution was suggested which is deportation. Deportation is the act of legally removing foreign
nationals and return them back to their country of origin. Voices supporting deportation claim that
it is a rapid method to get rid of the masses of illegal immigrants. They also suggested that the
previous deportation attempts had been a success. According to Rubenstein (2006) he mentioned
that looking at the history of deportation would assume that it may work today. However, if it
was inspected from the ethical point of view, it would show a clear violation of human rights. The
American college of physicians (2015) in a press release called to stop deportation and urged
physician to oppose it. Furthermore, the real cost of deportation is too expensive. deportation costs

Closing The Gap In Your Teeth Essay
Why Veneers Are A Good Option For Closing The Gap In Your Front Teeth
If you have a gap between your front teeth, you might be embarrassed to show your smile. There
is nothing wrong with having a gap in your teeth as long as it s natural and not caused by gum
disease. It doesn t need to be fixed unless it makes you feel self conscious. To close the gap, your
dentist will either move your teeth closer together with braces or cover it up with a crown or
veneers. Veneers may be your best option. Here s why.
Braces Take A Long Time To Work
It takes braces several months to readjust the position of your teeth. If you don t mind waiting
that long, then braces might be a good choice for you because you ll be able to save the enamel
on your teeth that way. However, braces aren t always practical for adults, even the invisible
variety, especially if you have an occupation where your looks are very important. Plus, braces are
expensive. While they work, there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The veneers can be made any size, shape, and color needed to correct the appearance of your smile.
In the case of a gap, your dentist applies a veneer on the tooth on each side of the gap. The veneers
are a little wider than your natural teeth, so when they are in place the gap disappears. It only
takes a couple of weeks to go through the process of getting this dental procedure.
First, your dentist makes an impression of your teeth so a dental lab can make the shells to fit
in your mouth precisely. It will take a couple of weeks to get your custom veneers back from the
lab so your dentist can apply them. To get the veneers to fit properly in your mouth, your dentist
needs to shave off a very thin layer of tooth enamel. Then the veneers are bonded into place with
dental cement. The process works much quicker than braces, which is important if you decide you
want the cosmetic work done in time for a wedding or big job

Stanford Experiment Vs Holocaust Experiment
Both the Stanford and Holocaust experiments are psychological experiments that were conducted
in order to realize the behavior of the prisoners and the prison guards when they are in prison and
the kind of psychological and physical treatments that the guards offer to the prisoners.
The Stanford prison experiment took place in the year 1971. In this experiment young men were
used whereby, they were divided into the roles if the guards and the prisoners. Both were put in an
environment that resembles a prison at Stanford of university. On the other hand Holocaust

dictatorship dating back to world war two.
The holocaust experiment advocates that there is need for redefinition of cultural values in order to
create a better and more humane society. This has it include a wide range of human existence. On
the other side, Stanford experiment shows that tyranny is the major course of all the humiliation
that the prisoners underwent and advocates for good planning in the psychological departments

  • 2. The Beatles Essay examples The Beatles There have been more books published about one 20th century icon than any other, this band that is said to have broken down barriers in all ways, is the Beatles. Their music was said to have driven that younger generation mad. Perhaps it was because they were one of the first bands ever play real rock and roll music; or maybe it was those cute little peacoats they wore. Or maybe it was just because they were foreigners in the world of music, yet seemed to fit right in with the young people. Shortly after their first tour of Hamburg, Stuart, who had always been a better artist than musician left the band to pursue goals in the visual arts field. Paul had dabbled in bass guitar and took his place. This was a transition period for the members in the band, they were going from being Liverpool locals to being English stars. It was about this time that the rest of the band and their manager Brian Epstien, began to notice Pete s growing ego, and thought it would be best if he not be in the band. Many fans were suprised and upset at the decision. When they heard Ringo Starr one of the back up drummers, was joining they were calmed perhaps in anticipation of hearing how the new member would fit in with the rest of the band. The result was fabulous. The band was pleased with thier new addition and they quickly adapted to each others playing styles. Ring was the final member to join the band and in October of 1962, just a few months after Ringo joined the band, the Beatles had their first hit single, Love Me Do . 1963 and 1964 proved to be the most important years for the Beatles. The Black Plague arrived at a time of war and famine in Europe, only further devastating the lives of medieval citizens. Religiously, socially, and politically, there were no immediate changes from the Black Plague, however, a Catholic schism, the ability for social mobility, and standing armies would develop in the following years, ultimately leading to sizable differences in life. The essence of fourteenth century European life revolved around the Roman Catholic Church; the papacy asserted spiritual rule and every individual was devoted to God and their beliefs. Therefore, when the plague hit Europe and killed one third to one half of the entire population, people questioned God as to why He would kill entire towns across the continent. Communities prayed for forgiveness, believing they had committed a sin large enough to deserve such a disease, however, clergymen, priests, and average citizens alike fell ill to the Black Plague, and none were spared. After the plague diminished from Europe, the church had a schism which entailed three popes at a single time, and the Renaissance led to a humanistic movement where people began to turn to individualism. • 12. Battle of Gettysburg Essay What was supposed to last 90 days, now dragged on for more than two years. It was apparent, now more than ever, that little was being accomplished but the taking of hundreds of thousands of lives. The war between the Union and Confederacy had been in a sort of deadlock where each side could claim victories as easy as defeats. By this time the south had the upper hand militarily wise, just coming off a magnificent tactical victory at Chancellorsville in May. General Lee headed the Confederacy s, Army of Northern Virginia, General Meade headed the Union s Army of the Potomac. Both sides saw the need to win that one, crucial victory to turn the tide completely in their favor. They would get their chances at a small town in Pennsylvania. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By this point in the war, the citizens of the Confederacy were growing more and more doubtful of their future as long as the war was being fought. Food was at a scarcity, money was gradually becoming worthless and thousands of soldiers had been killed. Lee s army was having a lot of success in Virginia since Fredericksburg in December 1862, but the war was exacting a heavy toll on life in the south. It was becoming evident to Lee and President Davis so they knew they had to get the spirit of the people to rise again. No better possible way to do so then by obliterating the Army of the Potomac on northern soil. In doing so, General Lee hoped to not only raise morale in his ranks and the south, but crush the northern spirit. A win here would for sure demoralize even more, those opposing the war in the north, which might get public opinion to swing to anti war. Also, Lee would pressure the north into sending troops from Washington, weakening its defenses or possibly draw troops from Grant s army at Vicksburg. On the other hand, General Meade s, Army of the Potomac also had reasons to win the battle. Newly appointed, General George Meade, had a huge task ahead of him. He had just assumed command of the Union s main eastern army and now he must halt Lee s advance. Two very difficult obstacles for him but if he couldn t stop the Army of Northern Virginia then his country was in jeopardy. With the capture of Vicksburg seeming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I still identify very much with LDS culture and attend church regularly. Rather, I identify as an atheist as a way to convey that I seem to have lost Faith that there is a God. Over the last year I have studied and ponder in depth to discover as best I could truth. Before I get there I want to be clear as to the perspective in which I am coming from. How western cultures view the body and how the body is treated (our body and others) are different from how non western cultures view and treat bodies. We can see the differences in the western and non western bodies in such works as Anne Fadiman s account of a Hmong child in America and in articles like Genital Surgeries: Gendering Bodies. Along with the many differences between western and non western thoughts there are also several similarities. Especially when it comes to metaphors of the body. Women find that natural female genitals are unclean and ugly and the surgeries create a more pleasing, smooth, and feminine genital area (page 95 Genital Surgeries) For many women practicing genital surgery it is a form of cosmetic surgery. It has the same purpose (to make the body look appealing) and some of the same risks (excessive bleeding and tearing) as many cosmetic surgeries used in western cultures. Although many western cultures denounce these practices as being barbaric and unfair these western cultures actually practice genital surgery on children. For example, many baby boys in the United States are circumcised at birth for both aesthetic reasons and for health concerns. Children born with both male and female genitalia are seen as medical emergencies and surgeries to correct this anomaly are done as soon as possible. The western and non western view of the body is very different. As we infer from comparing the western view of the body to the Hmong view of the body there are many ways to view the body than the one we were brought up to believe. However, we can also see from western metaphors and Hmong metaphors that a sick body is recognized by most people as being sick. We are also able to see with genital surgery that although society standards are different for every culture each culture uses surgery as a way to enhance the body and make it more pleasing to look at. Somehow we have come to believe that if we build our house on a sandbar that the government will make us whole when the hurricane washes it into the ocean. This is faulty on so many levels. Government responsibility is an oxymoron in itself. In an article by James Payne, he cites numerous incidents of the government being irresponsible and actually causing more damage to the environment and populations because of mismanagement and poor oversight (James, 2010). There is an inherent conflict of interest in hoping that your government will protect you since the government requires funding and that funding can be hampered by restricting business and construction. Your life and property becomes a riskthe government is willing to take in exchange for development and taxes. The in person training served as a review to the module exercises, which allowed navigators to get another look at the meticulous process in enrolling individuals in health insurance plans. I Stand Here Ironing, By Tillie Olsen I Stand Here Ironing, which is a popular short story by Tillie Olsen describing the hard lives of people during The Great Depression in the 1930s, focuses on the numerous difficulties of a mother who had to take care of a child by herself. The short story begins with a view of an apartment room where a woman is ironing. Her work is interrupted by a call asking for her help for understanding Emily, her first daughter. By recalling and gathering all memories between her and Emily, the narrator realizes that there are a lot of things which make her feel guilty and regretful about her daughter.
