2. Exploitation Of Seemingly Unlimited Natural Resources And...
Cod PaperExploitation of seemingly unlimited natural resources and overfishing of our seas has
been a common theme throughout human history and across cultures, and as global populations
grow, these problems only compound. The basic nature of World History is to break down borders
and remove nationalistic biases in the hope of finding an objective viewpoint, and humans
exploiting environmental resources for short term gain is as cross cultural a characteristic as they
come.
Cod Part One: A Fish Tale delves deeply into the inception of the cod trade between various
European countries and cross cultural integration of the fish into their diets. Kurlansky finds
connections between cultures, demonstrating a connection to the ideals of ... Show more content on

Furthermore, those who moderate their intake of the resource lose the advantage to those who
exploit it, even if moderation would be a superior advantage for everybody in the long run.
Overfishing is a perfect example, because fishermen earn their living in direct proportion to the
number of fish they catch, not to the sustainability of their fishing practices. The problem is further
compounded by the fact that the sustainable limits of the catch are often unclear and speculative,
owing to the complexity and size of the earth s water systems.
Cod Part Two: Limits tells the story of the beginnings of mass, industrialized fishing and how it
affected the cod market and availability of the cod itself. Kurlansky studies the similarities and
differences between the industrialized cod fishing economies on both sides of the Atlantic,
showcasing connections characteristic of World History. The development of new, improved ways
to fully harness the power of the ocean meant that we could begin to truly test its limits. Line
fishing, trawling, gillnetting; these methods made fishing dramatically more efficient just as they
depleted the environmental stocks of fish at an unprecedented rate. Dr. Michael N Pearson writes
that Local, traditional fishers had to compete with foreign trawlers, which vacuumed up marine life
in a totally random way. 1 This was a war,

fundamental motivation behind this article is to know and examine the effect of long term
catheterization and investigate the patients convictions and observations with respect to
perioperative urinary catheterization. Problem statement, study purpose, research questions,
literature review, and theoretical framework were focused on this critical analysis. Problem

removal. Patients had an absence of information regarding catheterization and an inadequate
inclusion in the choice for catheter removal with an absence of latrine facilities, which may add to
extended catheterization and an expanded danger of CAUTI. The procurement of sufficient data to

Alam, Nazmul, et al. Factors associated with condom use negotiation by female sex workers in
Bangladesh International Journal of STD AIDS, vol 24, no. 10,
2013, p. 813 821. This paper summarizes Alam s cross sectional study focussed on the ability of
female sex workers in Bangladesh to negotiate for condom use with clients. After conducting an
assessment with 1395 workers, 439 from brothels, 442 from hotels and 514 street workers, he
has reported that there are key differences in the factors influencing each group. He finds that
they are mobile and there are a greater number of them, street sex workers are least likely to
negotiate with clients. The overall results of condom use negotiation are quite poor; on average,
about 28.1% of all sex workers negotiated consistently. As the lack of condom use makes sex
workers vulnerable to sexually transmitted diseases, it is essential that they are given the required
administrative support to enhance negotiation skills. Alam s insights are powerful as they
document the specific factors that discourage female sex workers from negotiating with clients. He
finds that the primary motivation is financial; clients offer more for condoms to not be used, and
sex workers are reluctant to negotiate as it could lead to lost customers. This conversation about
competition for clients provides important insights regarding the structural factors affecting sex
work. Alam finds that sex workers are heavily influenced by this factor due to

5. Home Schooling Essay examples
Some 20 years ago only a mere 50,000 children were home schooled, and that was mainly by
hippie parents who wanted to protect their children from what they called the system. Now it is
estimated that nearly 1.5 to 2 million children are now schooled at home each year, dissatisfaction
with the American public school systembeing the number one reason (Crary). Since most home
schooling families can t afford it, they choose not to send their kids to a good private school. In the
next few paragraphs, I will speak of the pros and cons of home schooling children and the
fundamentals of home schooling.
Here s a fact, the 2000 champion of the Scripps Howard National Spelling

It is shown that 69% of home schooled children go on to college compared to 70% of public school
students and 90% of private school children. How do they get in? Parents are subject to send in a
portfolio of some of their children s work and also of their accomplishments. If they are required
to take a standardized test, they will take them also. And if they need a transcript, either the mother
or father will sit down and compute one on the computer. Some 2/3 s of the colleges accept such a
transcript (Anderson).
Why do people home school? It is found that families choose to home school because they want
higher curriculum enrichment and want more opportunities for the child to accelerate. The main
reason for home schooling though is because of moral and religious reasons; they want to remove
their children from a defunct school environment. There are also the families who use home
schooling in a more negative way. Some single mothers are now home schooling their children so
that they can have babysitter for their younger children while they work 2 jobs to support the
family. Some are taking their children out of public schools because of disciplinary problems yet
they aren t motivated or skilled enough to teach their children on their own.
Critics believe that by home schooling your child, you are taking them away from their peers and
therefore retarding their socialization. They also believe that home schooling is a form of child
abuse because you are

6. The Problem Of Digital Piracy
1.0 Situation Analysis 1.1Introduction: Digital Piracy refers to the occurrence of unauthorized
copying of digital goods, documents, video and audio without the legal approval of the owners
(Lixuan Zhang Wayne William 2009). Software privacy is reported to cost the film industry an
estimated $58 billion per year in the United States alone (Ma et al, 2011.). Sony is a Japanese
multinational corporation, with business in a variety of areas including; consumer and professional
electronics, gaming, music and motion pictures. Piracy of Sony s content is a continuing problem,
and the management team has made various attempts at prosecuting the individuals who pirate. The
management team attempted to deter the individuals pirating, through sending legal letters
threatening action, however this only led to a short term impact. In order to work towards a long
term solution, the management team would like to understand what factors impact a person s
likelihood to download pirated material. 1.2 Problem Statement: Sony have a problem of digital
piracy, which has a multitude of impacts on the company, including huge revenue losses, losses of
jobs, and an overall diminishment on the growth of the software industry (Peace, Galletta and
Thong, 2014). There are a number of factors which contribute towards the intention to commit
digital piracy. These factors include; the age of the individual digitally pirating, the punishment
severity imposed, the perceived behavioral control,

If pets are included in a person s lifestyle, owning a house would be very beneficial, as many
landlords do not allow pets on their premises, or they charge an extra deposit if the tenant were
to have pets. There are many rules that come along with renting an apartment or house, whereas
there are no rules inside of ones home; however, some subdivisions may have ordinances about
certain things and that can be checked out before deciding your home s location. In one were to
need an extra room, one could simply add an addition to the house if the lot in which the house
is on is large enough instead of searching for a new place of residence. Many people enjoy
landscaping and gardening; however, there may not be any room for landscaping or gardening
while renting an apartment because multiple tenants will share a backyard. Sure homeowners are
responsible for lawn care and snow removal, but renters sometimes get stuck having to be
responsible for them as well because they get tired of waiting for the landlord to have the work
done. Purchasing a home with a fixed loan gives the homeowner a sense, as the monthly
mortgage payment will remain the same during the term of the loan as long as it is purchased at
a fixed rate. Rent is not guaranteed to stay the same and is often raised yearly. When starting a

8. Mobile Phone Radiation Affects Our Health Essay
Introduction In the year 1966, less than 100 million adults across the globe had cell phones.
However, as of 2016, there were 4.23 billion mobile phone users across the globe. The
exponential increase in mobile phone use has made it urgent to determine whether or not
mobile phone radiation poses a health hazard. The question of whether mobile phone radiation
affects our health has been surrounded by controversy since the introduction of mobile phones.
For several years, the World Health Organization (WHO) has assured people that there are no
significant risks stemming from repeated use of mobile phones. However, it included mobile
phone radiation to the list of carcinogenic substances in the year 2011. A carcinogenic substance
is a substance that is directly involved in causing cancer. What exactly is Mobile Phone
Radiation? Mobile phone radiation can be defined as energy travelling through space in form of
waves. Since mobile phones use radio frequency (RF) to make or receive calls, it emits
electromagnetic radiation. The radiation emitted by the mobile phones is classified as non
ionizing. In simpler terms, it does not ionize other molecules; instead it excites materials into
another form of energy. If mobile phone radiation was ionizing, it would be very harmful as it
would ionize molecules causing more radiation effects. Other gadgets that produce non ionizing
radiation include visible light, microwave and radio waves. It is therefore true to say that we are in

or roles these compounds play in the life of the plants in which they are found is not well

11. Character Analysis Of Miss Emily Grierson
Upon reading A Rose for Emily, penned by William Faulkner, one discovers several colorful
characters, including one Miss Emily Grierson, who may be best described as a wilting violet in a
time capsule. As the daughter of a colonel who was once the respected town mayor, Miss Emily
met a much different fate than one might have expected of someone with such a high societal
status. In keeping with the idea that humans are flawed beings, a tragic herois often described as an
individual with immense potential who meets a horrific end due to flaws within themselves, and
the main character in Faulkner s short story undeniably meets these criteria. In William Faulkners A
Rose for Emily, Miss Emily Grierson suffers an unfortunate fate due to her lack of willingness to
evolve as the times changed, her intense need to keep up appearances, and her withdrawal from
society which leads readers to accept her as a tragic hero.
Throughout the course of the story, it becomes evident to readers that Miss Emily lived her life
as though time was on pause, and nothing was allowed to be altered within the confines of her
reality; in regard to this realization, one notes that this is where she first began her long fall down
the well. In retrospect, she held fast to the days when she fancied herself a symbol of the
flourishing south and became stationary in an antiquated period of life when the times began to
change. She made it known that she wanted no part of change, and she never chose to

Crimes can be committed by everyone. The age of criminals have decreased as the crime
committed increased in violence through time. Innocent lives are often lost in acts of violence,
such as what had happened at Columbine. Children who commit malicious crimes can either be
tried as a child or an adult. Children tried in the juvenile court systems are able to get out of jail
around or before they turn 21. Juvenile courts are meant to rehabilitate children who are said to be
too young to understand their actions. Adults who commit the same crimeas children are believed to
be fully aware of their actions and the repercussions. If a child is tried as an adult, then the child
can be given a longer sentence. Children who commit serious crimes should be tried as adults.
With time, the severity of the crimes committed by children have been seen to be worse.
Juvenile criminals, are still regarded by the law as children first criminals second (Collier 1).
The juvenile court was originally created to help rehabilitate children who commit crimes such as
stealing. Now the juvenile court can be seen harboring criminal who were well aware of the
vicious acts he or she have done such as a murderer. Statistics show that, crimes committed by
juveniles have increased by 60 percent since 1984 (Collier 1). The rapid increase of crimes that
occur shows how the system in place is not effective in the prevention of crimes. Government

Autonomy Patient advocacy is one of the many critically important roles of nurses. They not only
provide physical care but also provide emotional support to their patients. As the state of the patient

considerable care of the fact that the autonomous decisions of the patient aren t compromised

taking decisions for the self. All individuals consult a physician or go to the hospitalseeking for help
and guidance in deciding for their health simply because they do not have necessary knowledge
required to make decisions. Patients need to be adviced, calmed and all their isssues should be

constraint. In this case, autonomy is being breeched as the patient s choice to take painkillers is

Biofeedback is a technique were people are taught to become aware of there body, and learn to

it functions best with patients who have illnesses that are stress related. This practice came to be in
laboratory studies in the 1940 s. It is considered one of the earliest behavioral medicine treatments ,
but did not gain much popularity until the 1950 s. It was found to be a mixture of many scientific
experiments such as altered states of consciousness and operant conditioning. These findings were
combined to form the now popular treatment. Although scientists do not necessarily know how

provided aerial surveillance over Osama bin Laden s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan

UAVs has provided a way for the military to collect information without placing a single boot on
the ground. Military drone surveillance has improved the amount of information received, as
the military adjusts its capabilities or unit. Yet, drones enhance the way our military leaders
decide when to send troops to enemy s line. The squad leader receives real time data. Drones can
easily slip over international borders without being caught, and a human person is not at risk.
For instance, Daniel Bruntesster states in the article, Drones: The Future Warfare? , Drones
will be part of the future of warfare as their advantages can be exploited by political leaders. Yet,
drones are only part of a wide array of surveillance and military options. Initially, Bruntesster
describes lingering over targets as surveillance and a way to obtain information 24/7. The
method of surveillance has helped us change the way we track potential targets and improved

20. Rhetorical Analysis Of Aristotle s Theory Of Rhetoric
Rhetoric can best be explained as how a speaker uses persuasion to influence their intended
audience. Rhetoric is usually seen as a power that we as communicators are using to obtain the
belief of others. Almost everyone uses rhetoric throughout their everyday lives without even
knowing. We are constantly communicating with one another trying to prove some sort of point.
There are many different figures that played a huge role in establishing rhetoric, but Aristotleis seen
by many as the father of rhetoric. Not only does Aristotle have an influence on people of present
day, but he had an influence on other Greek philosophers such as Cicero and Quintilian. His
works established a baseline of rhetoric that many people after his time took and ran with. If he
were around today, Aristotle would be seen by many as a rhetorical leader who could possibly
end many communication differences and problems that are present in today s society. Aristotle
was born in Stagira, Greece in the year 384 B.C. His father, Nicomachus, who died when Aristotle

21. Chevrolet s Influence On The Car Industry
The History of Chevrolet One of the most famous brands of automobiles the world has ever seen
was Chevrolet. Throughout history, Chevrolet has invented products and made innovations that
have been game changers in the automotive world. Even to this day, Chevrolet continues to
innovate, redesign, and develop new technologies that help to advance in comfort, compatibility,
and safety for the cars of the future. The influence that Chevrolet has made on the car world began
with the founding of the company. Chevrolet was founded by William C. Durant and Louis
Chevrolet. Durant had been included in the carriage business and by 1890 was delivering around
50,000 horse drawn vehicles a year with Durant Dort Carriage Company. His first wander into...

car. Contemporary and jaunty, the Royal Mail had great visual appeal. Its reliable 171 cid 4
cylinder engine had overhead valves, a premium design that contributed to its relatively high
power rating. The car s moderate $750 list price included a top, windshield and speedometer
items that had been accessories on more expensive cars just a few years before. In retrospect, it
seems fitting that the Royal Mail was one of the first models to carry the Chevrolet bowtie
badge ( 100 Years of Icons ). In June 1915 the 490 entered the world with a cost of $490 to
contend once more with the Ford Model T. The Series D in 1917 had a 288 cubic inch V8 55

promptly acknowledged by buyers. ( History of Chevrolet ). Although the prices of the cars were

22. Iraq War Failure
The invasion and the war in Iraq remains a continuous topic of divisiveness and sensitivity in today
s America. One of the negative evaluation of the war is attributed to the false impression of the
length of the war which lasted seven years, not six months as presumed in 2003. As the invasion
initiated, the ideologies of American government then failed to perceive the large number of troops
required, casualties and the financial toll in the interest of the preventive war doctrine. However,
when weighing the failures of this war, there are successes brought home that relate mostly to the
lessons the American military and the government learned with the use of counterinsurgency tactics
after winning the hearts and minds of Iraqis (Young). Nevertheless, with evaluation through levels
of analysis, the accomplished agenda of ending Saddam Hussein s regime justifies success and
failure, mutually.
When one thinks of Iraq war, the two key players are perceived to be George W. Bushand Saddam
Hussein. As leaders of the opposing sides, they are also perceived as the decision makers. In the

Introduction
Keeping patients safe is essential in today s health care system, but patient safety events that
violate that safety are increasing each year. It was only recently, that the focus on patient safety
was reinforced by a report prepared by Institute of medicine (IOM) entitled To err is human,
building a safer health system (Wakefield Iliffe,2002).This report found that approx imately
44,000 to 98,000 deaths occur each year due to medical errors and that the majority was
preventable. Deaths due to medical errors exceed deaths due to many other causes such as like HIV

and also leads to 92,882 preventable deaths in USA. Top 250 hospitals of US have achieved
patient safety excellence award, which has a potential to save 2 billion of federal money and
22,771 deaths from Medicare patients (Health Grades, 2009). Institute of medicine (IOM) has
estimated that adverse drug reactions cost 1.5 million to the govt.which can be reduced with
proper interventions (Classen, Jaser Budnitz, 2010). Total cost due to medical errors is 29 bil
lion annually, which includes costs due to medical bills and due to loss of income and other dis
abilities. Seeing the severity of patient safety events, it is necessary for the hospitals to take proper
steps towards patient safety. Each step towards patient safety saves hundreds of lives and thousands
of dollars. Preventable medical errors affect the trust of patient on health care person nel (Health

25. Theories of Patriarchy Feminist Ideology
Assess the claim that gender inequalities in the domestic and occupational divisions of labour are
best understood with reference to the concept of patriarchy. You should illustrate your answer with
reference to a range of feminist perspectives.
Introduction
Western female thought through the centuries has identified the relationship between patriarchy
and gender as crucial to the women s subordinate position. For two hundred years, patriarchy
precluded women from having a legal or political identity and the legislation and attitudes
supporting this provided the model for slavery. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries suffrage
campaigners succeeded in securing some legal and political rights for women in the UK. By the

The household has a different structure to other institutional forms, e.g., the workplace. This is an
important point because if feminist theories of patriarchy are to stand they must show that
patriarchy operates to the same end in both the private and public sphere, even if it uses different
strategies, otherwise it could not be the main reason for the continuing inequality of women in both
the private and public sphere.
Walby shows that within the private structure and the public structures, patriarchy does use
different strategies to maintain gender inequality and these strategies both achieve the
subordination of women. The household strategy is considered to be exclusionary and the public
structures strategy as segregationist.
The exclusionary strategy in the private arena is based on household production. Application of this
strategy in the domestic sphere depends on individual patriarchs controlling women in the private
world of the home. The male patriarch in the household is both the oppressor and recipient of
women s subordination. This strategy is direct В– women are oppressed on a personal and
individual basis by the individual patriarchs who share their lives.
The segregationist strategy used in the public patriarchy actively excludes women from the public
arena using various structures to subordinate them. Application depends on controlling access to
public arenas (Golombok and Fivush, 1995). This strategy

The novel Bright Lines tells the story of a Muslim family in the heart of New York and their
trials and tribulations as they face the assimilation of American culture. Throughout the story,
the young characters, Maya, El, and Charu are the most affected by this assimilation because
they clash with what their elders think is best. El is a particularly interesting character because
he is the most affected by the division of the two cultures he was raised in. The audience often
sees El confused about the way he feels about his body while at the same time he is suffering
from visions that haunt him. Growing up was very tough for El because he faced many
obstacles from her parents being murdered because of the war to her complete inability to
connect to anyone on a truly deep level. This, along with the diverse cultural roles in his life, has
left his in many predicaments where she struggles with who he is. His identity is something that
he longs for but has yet to find. A major aspect of his identity of which he struggles greatly with
is his sexuality. Religion in the novel is an influential aspect of El s life and his struggle with his
sexuality. The emphasis placed on religion is a very important part of life, especially in India. In
the culture presented in the novel, religion, while not presented often, is a huge aspect of life. It is
seen dictating every interaction a person has. While El does not show any attachment to a particular

Schenck was charged for his obstruction of recruitment due to the Conspiracy Act. He sued, saying
that his First Amendment free speech was violated.
Issue:
Are Schenck s actions (words, expression) protected by the free speech clause of the First
Amendment?
Decision of the court:
The Court ruled (9 0) and upheld Schenck s conviction stating that the Espionage Act limited
people s speech especially during war time.
Reasoning:

29. Women in Hills like White Elephants and The Yellow...
Through history women have fought for equal rights and freedom. This tension is derived from
men; society, in general; and within a woman herself. In the nineteenth century, women in
literature were often portrayed as submissive to men. Literature of this period often characterized
women as oppressed by society, as well as by the male influences in their lives. This era is
especially interesting because it is a time in modern society when women were still treated as
second class citizens. Two interesting short stories, Hills like White Elephants and The Yellow

deeper depression invisible to her husband, which is also her doctor, who believes he knows
what is best for her. Alone in the yellow wallpapered nursery of a rented house, she descends into
madness. Everyday she keeps looking at the torn yellow wallpaper. While there, she is forbidden
to write in her journal, as it indulges her imagination, which is not in accordance with her husband
s wishes. Despite this, the narrator makes entries in the journal whenever she has the opportunity.
Through these entries we learn of her obsession with the wallpaper in her bedroom. She is
enthralled with it and studies the paper for hours. She thinks she sees a woman trapped behind the
pattern in the paper. The story reaches its climax when her husband must force his way into the
bedroom, only to find that his wife has pulled the paper off the wall and is crawling around the

30. Symptoms And Symptoms Of Alzheimer s Disease
Aging is an inevitable process that every human being goes through. It is very important to see
how people change as they age and the various experiences they go through. One of the most
common diseases among older people is dementia. Among the different types of dementia, the most
prevalent one is Alzheimer s disease(AD). It is important to look at all of the signs and symptoms
of each type of dementia to see which specific type best describes a person s condition. There is
one patient in particular, Betty, who has many signs and symptoms related to dementia. Betty is
a 65 year old woman who has dementia running in her family. She has been living at home with
her husband, Robert, who is 70 years old. The physicians are doing many tests to see which
specific type of dementia Betty exhibits. After looking at each type of dementia and its signs and
symptoms, it is fairly easy to tell which disease best describes her condition. Examining the
various biological theories of aging is also very important because it helps to better understand
dementia and how it affects older people in their lives. Overall, it important to look at all of the
signs and symptoms of all of the types of dementia, along with the biological theories of aging, to
see if an individual has any disease and the severity of it.

For me when I watch sports (which is almost on a daily biases) it doesn t take very long to see an
advertisement for a fantasy gambling website such as Draftkings.com and FanDuel.com. Both of
these companies have had issues recently with their advertising. Recently there have been two
issues of false advertisingagainst Draftkings and one issue against FanDuel. The first issue of false
advertising against Draftkings actually came from FanDuel. On March 13th an article was
published by FORBES detailing how FanDuel s lawyers were preparing a letter to send to
Draftkings explaining how they thought that the advertisements were not legal and why they
should be taken down. If they refused FanDuel would begin filing a lawsuit. The issue resided in
Draftkings advertising that they were Draftkings claiming they had the largest weekly cash pools,
and claiming to be the #1 destination for daily fantasy sports on the internet, while FanDuel
believed that they had the numbers to prove that Draftkings was wrong (Major Storm).
Due to the issues that FanDuel raised Draftkings was forced to change the way they marketed.
Draftkings resolved the issues before FanDuel took them to court. They no longer claim to have
the largest prize pool, simply because the amount of the prize pools changed everyday and it was
to difficult for the company to keep up if they were actually the largest any given day. They have
changes their slogan from claiming to be the #1 destination as well. Now if you

age related declines in cognitive functioning and other vulnerabilities such as difficulties with

The addition of the Elder Justice Act brings some hope for long term attention to the issue of

Full costing regards all costs to be product costs. Therefore, all overhead costs are assigned to costs
of production for specific products. Traditional costing contains only the costs for those elements
that change with the production of an added unit of good or service.
Difference between ABC and TCA
38. Both traditional costing and activity based costing methods estimate overhead costs connected to
production and allocate these costs to products based on a cost driver rate. The differences are in
the precision and density of the two methods. Traditional costing is more basic and less accurate
than ABC, and typically gives overhead costs to products based on a subjective average rate. ABC
is more complicated and more accurate than traditional costing. This technique gives indirect costs
to activities and then gives the costs to products based on the products practice of the activities. It
is widely known that the traditional costing system uses a single, volume based cost driver. This is
why the traditional product costing system alters the cost of products. In most cases this type of

It must be possible to extract the ratio decidendi of the precedent. The ratio decidendi (reason for
a decision) is the point of law on which the previous decision was based. Obiter dicta are remarks
of the judge, which are not essential for the disposal of the case. They tend to be hypotheses
indicating what his preferred decision would have been if the facts had been slightly different. The
doctrine of judicial precedent is less rigid in the criminal courts.
At present the most important decisions of the Scottish courts are published in the series known as

Examples are: a) Donaghue v. Stevenson, 1932 S.C. (H.L.) 31; b) H.M. Advocate v. Kirkwood,

40. The Dark Side of Judge Pyncheon in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s...
The Dark Side of Judge Pyncheon in Nathaniel Hawthorne s Novel, The House of the Seven Gables
People in society live in a masquerade. Everyone wears a decoratively adorned mask that displays
beauty, purity, and service. However, behind the mask lies on the inside of all society. One will
stop at nothing in order to be well liked, thus becoming hypocrites. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel,
The House of the Seven Gables, the narrator uses intense diction, a vivid selection of detail, and a
shocking tone to reveal that the character of Judge Pyncheon resembles perfection on the outside,
yet darker traits sit latent on the inside.
The narrator uses intense diction to describe Judge Pyncheon s character as near perfection. He

Pyncheon is always aware of his form as well as his appearance towards others like broad
benevolence, and a scrupulous attention to the rich and poor. The narrator suddenly transitions
from Judge Pyncheon s admirably arranged life to his early and reckless youth. Nathaniel
Hawthorne ultimately describes Pyncheon s looking glass image, his party mask. This hard, cold
man can only be brought down by the public loss of interest in him. The intensity of the narrator s
diction makes the Judge s contrasting inner and outer characters obvious and blatant.
A vivid selection of detail provides perfect evidence to Judge Pyncheon s unsightly hypocrisy.
Hawthorne pays close attention to Pyncheon s work life, social world, and conspicuous
appearances. At the same time, he elaborates on his wonderful involvement, his pursuing work
ethic, and his superb manner and attire towards others. However, it is not the superficial attributes
that Hawthorne pays attention to... it is the subliminal side of the Judge that he disregards. What
does Judge Pyncheon do in his leisure time when the public eye is not trampling in his world?
The Judge s splendid rubbish is only a mere reflection he wants society to witness. Because of the
narrator s selection of detail, Judge Pyncheon s secret existence soars to the surface.
A shocking and disappointing tone exposes Judge Pyncheon s active and subtle conscience.

and not suitable for affordable housing. Recent studies are showed that green buildings have a
modest initial cost premium, but the long term benefits far exceed the additional capital costs. For

To convert future dollars to present dollars, net present value analysis inserts a number discount rate
.
Here are 4 basic steps for NPV analysis Forecast the benefits and costs in each year.
We need to forecast the benefits and costs in today s dollar include opportunity costs and use
expected value to estimate uncertain benefits and costs, omit the sunk costs, non monetary cost and
benefits. Determine a discount rate.
The discount rate is a nominal discount rate. We can use this formula to converse real to nominal.
(1+real discount rate)*(1+future CPI) 1=nominal discount rate
Future CPI = Future consumer price index Calculate the net present value.
∑net present value=∑((total benefits total costs))в
Ѓ„гЂ–(1+r)гЂ—^(length ) r = discount rate
Determine alternatives
After calculate the NPV, we are not only calculated monetary costs and benefits, we also need to
consider non monetary costs and benefits.
Life cycle Costing (LCC)
Life cycle costing is an economics tool to assess the total cost of a product. Another purpose for
this tool, as a management decision tool, for comparing different parts conflicts by concentration
on facts, money and time. By using Life cycle costing, total cost of the product can be calculated
over the total span of product life cycle. All parties on this project, such as product suppliers,
consumers and owners are benefit from LCC.

42. Martin Luther s Theology Of The Cross
Furthermore, Luther s Theology of the cross helps us to see God incarnate, with us, Emmanuel,
even in the suffering and death of the crucified one, God s only son, Jesus. It is in this suffering
that we know that God is with us. In a very human way, God takes on the fate of the world, to
destroy human flesh through Jesus, the incarnation. God does change, suffer and die. It is God
alone, and nothing we do. God does all the heavy lifting for our sake, and it is a gift. Jesus gives us
an example of someone who loves us so deeply, that he is willing to lay down his life.

43. Herman Melville s Moby Dick
In 1851, after reading the information from Owen Chase s diary and selecting information from
his own experience, Herman Melville wrote Moby Dick, a story about a one legged captain in
search of the whale responsible for devouring his leg, which is considered one of the greatest
novels in American literature. Herman Melville, born on August 1, 1819, admired every aspect of
literature from a young age. Having lost his father when he was only 13, he was forced to go to
work to provide for his family. Writing wasn t a priority for the young Melville but it was
definitely inspiring to him. Herman was influenced by many authors such as: William
Shakespeare, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Edgar Allan Poe, Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo
Emerson, and more. However, because he had to work rather than write, he held many positions
such as: teacher, bank clerk, cabin boy, whaler, and finally, in 1846, author. While he was a whaler
for three years, encountering many personal events on the sea and on strange islands, he heard a
story about events from a whaling ship during 1819, the Essex, which influenced his writing of
Moby Dick. His novel wasn t highly regarded initially, especially in England, where it was
originally published. It failed to include the epilogue in the first edition, therefore making it a target
of great criticism. Future editions, including the American, did include the epilogue. Although
critics admired Melville s diction, style, and plot, the story didn t appeal to

The creative process includes brainstorming sessions where the team is asked to create a list of
everything that could go wrong. All ideas are welcome at this stage with the evaluation of the ideas
coming later.
Risk identification more disciplined process involves using checklists of potential risks and
evaluating the likelihood that those events might happen on the project. Some companies and
industries develop risk checklists based on experience from past projects. These checklists can be
helpful to the project manager and project team in identifying both specific risks on the checklist
and expanding the thinking of the team. The past experience of the project team, project experience
within the company, and experts in the industry can be valuable resources for identifying.
Qualitative risk analysis the reason that a qualitative method is more commonly used than a
quantitative method is because of the difficulty of assigning monetary values to assets, calculating
the percentage of damage that could be endured and deriving the probability of frequency of a
threat becoming realized.
Quantitative risk analysis uses percentages formulas and monetary values. The most commonly
known and understood formulas are the single loss expectancy and the annualized loss expectancy
methods.

Stage1 Alarm stage is the immediate response to the stressor. This immediate response will result
in a person s sympathetic nervous system being stimulated. The stimulation of the person s
sympathetic nervous system is characterized by the increase in one s heart rate, blood pressure,
and respirations. This reaction is also known as a fight or flight response when adrenaline is
released in a person body which stimulates the sympathetic nervous system. This stage gives us the
strength to fight off a threat. Stage 2 Resistence stage is where the pituitary gland stops the
secretion of hormons that were responsible for the fight or flight response. After the first response

databases. It also improves the data access performance. Since it is very rare today to remove the
data because most users have only read access also rapid access to a larger volume of data which
could be inconvenient sometimes.
Software and systems support started to design systems to support decision makers as online
analytical processing (OLAP), decision support systems (DSS) and data mining.

The correlation between nonprofits in America and third world countries can vary all over the
board. There are religious nonprofits, nonprofits for the hungry, nonprofits created to raise
awareness on certain issues, you name it there is a project behind the issue determined to better
it. But long ago, Rudyard Kipling saw these works at hand and determined it to be the white man

behind Kipling s poem comes from Western white cultures feeling an obligation to help lesser,
