Female Film Directors and the British Film Industry
In this essay I will be discussing whether female filmmakers in Britain find it easier to make a
documentary feature than a fiction feature film in the current British film industry. I will be
referring to the opinions and films of Kim Longinotto, Carol Morley, Clio Barnard and Alison
Stirling. I will also be looking at the statistics from filmfestivals and the British Film Institute, and
interviews with various British female filmmakers. I will argue that documentaries are easier to
make due to them being less expensive to make and not requiring a large crew. I will try to show
that female filmmakers are less like to get funding for a fiction feature film due to the people that
make the decisions in terms of granting funding for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even more worryingly, women accounted for just 7.8% of directors on UK films in 2012, a
decrease of more than 7% year on year (15% in 2011) (www.wftv.org.uk). This means that there
were 165 male directors, but only 14 female directors. This equals the amount of female directors
currently working in TV drama, as reported by Directors UK. (http://www.directors.uk.com/about
us/news/where are women directors asks d uk board member beryl richards broadcast)
There are several successful women making fiction feature films within the UK, such as Clio
Barnard, Lynne Ramsay, however there are still relatively few British women directing feature
films. In the areas of documentary and experimental film, however, women have directed a
substantial body of work. This suggests that away from the constraints of the commercial film
industry, greater opportunities still exist to explore the representation of women s lives and their
subjective experience within Britain (Helen Wheatley Aitken, 2005). Pratibha Parmer, a UK
documentary maker, believes that women have trouble getting into fiction filmmaking and states
that, some female directors have produced fictional work, but we can still say that this is the
exception rather than the rule. These are two very different worlds, and the passage between them
is not easy. There are very few women who can break through into the world of fiction filmmaking,
partly because of the enormous budgets involved, the great risks and the

The Royal Military College as an Instrument for Molding...
The Royal Military College as an Instrument for Molding Military Offices
To view the Royal Military College (RMC) as an instrument for molding military officers for the
nation would be an accurate means of outlining the institutions objective. In the Organizational
Behavior Concepts, Controversies, Applications, textbook by Stephen Robbins and Nancy Langton,
organizational culture is defined as: a system of shared meaning and common perception held by
members of an organization that distinguishes it from other organizations. (Robbins and Langton
316) Like all institutions RMC is full of variables and cleavages that link peoples together in a
variety of manners. There is however more than simply a catchy motto Truth, Duty,... Show more

While in the early part of the last century some of the original goals of RMC included producing
quality officers in Canada for the war effort at the same time developing Canadian autonomy from
Great Britain; today s goals and objectives are indeed different. Yet the point remains that the
college did not get shut down when the mandate changed. This fact reflects its immortality.
There are many other military academies in the world; an example of one closest to home is that
of the United States Military Academy, WestPoint. RMC and WestPoint have nursed a
competitive rivalry since the early years of RMC. While both institutions are in the business of
producing commissioned officers for their respective nations, the two academies are very
different in terms of character and personality. According to the field of organizational behavior,
institutions are said to have personalities just as people do. This is where culture plays a role in
each respective military academy and determining the atmosphere of the institution. At both RMC
and WestPoint there are differing notions of acceptable behavior. The first years at WestPoint are
treated very differently than they are at RMC. The USMA 4th classman, also known around the
campus as pleebe is kept distant from the upper years at WestPoint. While RMC has taken a very
different stance, whereby first year cadets are treated as full fledge members of the Cadet Wing.

Harry Houdini s Life
The Magic Life A fundamental understanding of the human psyche is the essential key to
successful magic. This is the quote that inspired Erich Weiss the world s greatest escape artist.
Harry Houdini born as Erich Weiss came into this world on March 24, 1874. He later claimed he
was born on April 6,1874. This kid was poor but ambitious, erratic yet determined. Harry
Houdini, the poor Jewish kid living in the slums of Appleton, Wisconsin, became the world s
most successful magician. There were no laws saying kids had to go to school so Harry worked
hard. Harry had to come early and stay late and he was hardly payed. Erich joined a sports club and
began to run, swim and, work out. On Harry s birthday at age seventeen he announced something. ...

He ran into a man with a great trick, but it cost $25. He had to borrow money to buy the trick he
promised his relatives he would pay them back. Harry and his brother got a show at the Imperial

the magic box trick they failed. They did not get a lot of performances after their failure.
Afterwards, they went to the Chicago world s fair making $25 a week afterwards they went
back to dime museums. Harry did a handcuff escape and that was when he started making money
and getting famous. He influenced the world because he was a poor child living in Wisconsin
who had a dream. Harry saw how many shoeless kids lived near him so he did a show for them and
bought all of them shoes. Harry would challenge police officers to handcuff him, lock him up or
even arrest him. Harry also taught soldiers how to escape handcuffs in case they were captured. He
also created a device that would help divers escape their suits quickly. Harry Houdini was a great

Popular Culture Power Pop Culture
In our over mediated world we are constantly surrounded by pop culture, it is unescapable. what
we view as popular culture effects the values we place on those things and we believe we can
make judgments based on what types of pop culture certain people love and identify with.
Because pop culture holds so much power over our frames of reference, view of the world, and
view of people it is extremely important that we understand just what pop cultureis and the power it
holds over us. Once we understand the power pop culture has we can begin to think about it
critically and critique it. In this essay I will explain the origins of populate culture as described by

How To Punish Your Inborn Drive
Bishop T.D. Jakes, last Tuesday I finished your inspiring novel Instinct; The power to Unleash
Your Inborn Drive , and I have to say it s one of the most fascinating books I ve ever laid hands
on. This novel clearly defines you and your purpose as an educator and a faith leader in our
society. The way you deliver your messages are so powerful; I often felt as if I was sitting front
row, on a Sunday morning, listening to you preach just the words I needed to hear. You provided
me with advice that reshaped my thinking and redirected me to a path to live a more fulfilling
life from now on. I do believe your novel makes readers look in the mirror and find the innate

Climate Change Is An Important Issue That Concerns Humanity
Climate change is an important issue that concerns humanity. Climate change refers to an increase
in average global temperatures. Every day, the enhanced greenhouse effect continues to advance,
which significantly influences Earth s long term climate. In addition, human activity is also
contributing to the increase of global warmingand is already leading to harmful consequences.
Some people believe that global warming is not occurring and the heating of the globe, is just a
part of the Earth s natural cycle. Several consequences such as, ice caps melting, show us that
global warming is in fact occurring. Therefore, we should start making changes in order to reduce
future damages to the Earth.
The enhanced greenhouse gas effect is one of the many reasons why global warming is occurring.
Heat that is being trapped by the Earth s surface is known as the natural greenhouse effect.
However, throughout the last decades since the Industrial Revolution, the natural greenhouse effect
has been disrupted due to greenhouse gas trapping too much heat in the Earth s atmosphere. The
enhanced greenhouse gas effect is the extra heating of the Earth s atmosphere caused by increased
levels of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane, in the atmosphere. According to
Cheryl Jakabs, carbon dioxide levels are now 100 parts per million higher than the beginning of the
1800s. Furthermore, this increase of greenhouse gases may lead to an increase of natural disasters.

Mission Command For The Battle Of The Bulge
Mission Command Analysis Brigadier General (BG) James M. Gavin, 82nd Airborne Division,
U.S. Army, was one of the distinguish Generals to contribute in the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. BG
Gavin commanded the 82nd and the 101st Airborne Divisions. He was responsible for many
decisive operations that were key for the success of the battle. He maintained firing positions for
engaging the Germans counteroffensive attacks. Simultaneously, his Mission Command practices
brought him to the success of occupying two important cities in Belgium. Brigadier General Gavin

In airborne operations, he was always the first one to jump. Even in moments of engaging heavy
fire from the enemy, BG Gavin would be side to side with his troops. Identifying their needs and
spending time with them created a stronger relationship in the organization. There was no need
to reiterate, he was in charge, everyone knew he was the General. Therefore, He demonstrated
that he was there to lead, but as well to fight and train as an ordinary Soldier. The constant
presence with his troops was the most significant act of building cohesive teams through mutual
trust. In Fact, how he found the time and energy to be constantly with his frontline troops and
still direct the overall activities of the division was a mystery. 1 Interacting with your

Pros And Cons Of Drug Legalization
Pros and Cons of Drug Legalization With the onslaught of states slowly legalizing the
commercialization and use of marijuana after the passing of sanctioning initiatives led by Colorado
and Washington in 2012, societal attitudes have begun to support this movement in the
decriminalization of marijuana for personal use. Based on the 2014 midterms, momentum for this
change has been shown in different parts of the U.S., with states such as Oregon, Alaska, and
Washington D.C. joining this cause. It is safe to assume that several other states will soon follow
suit, with ballot initiatives set for 2016 in states such as: Massachusetts, California, Missouri,
Hawaii, Maine, Nevada, and Arizona (Becker, 2014). However, the long standing debate still
stands, is this change for the better? In a world with less restrictions on illegal drugs such as
marijuana, would the pros outweigh the cons? Although the answer may not be clear cut,
considering the arguments made by both the supporting side and the opposing side of marijuana
legalization for public consumption will help us create an opinion on what values should be taken
priority on when it comes to the consequences related to advocating this movement. Based on the
arguments made from the perspective of a supporter in marijuana legalization, complete
legalization would bring an end to illicit dealings on the streets, as there would be no reason for
consumers to interact with shady sellers when it s already offered commercially.

Soil Conservation
INTRODUCTION
Soil is the precious gift of nature to the mankind. All the plant family, animal kingdom and human
society at large depend upon soil for their sustenance directly or indirectly. Ironically, soil is the
most neglected commodity on the earth. Shifting cultivation on the hill slopes, non adoption of soil
conservation techniques, and over exploitation of land for crop production due to population
stress, leads to enormous soil erosion. It will take hundreds of years to form an inch of soil, but in
no time it gets washed away down the slope due to erosion.

Soil Conservation is the process by which the loss of soil is checked, reducing the velocity of run

A terrace reduces the length of the hill side slope, thereby reducing sheet and rill erosion and
prevents formation of gullies.
There are different types of terraces as follows:
вњ“ Bench terracing: It consists of transforming relatively steeps land into a series of level or
nearly level strips or steeps running across the slope. The soil materials that are excavated from the
upper part of the terrace is used in filling the lower part and a small bund is also raised along the
outer edge of the terrace to check the downward flow of rainwater and also soil erosion. вњ“
Channel terrace: It consists of making of wide but shallow channels across the slope of the land
either exactly on contour line or with a slight grade (0.1 to 0.2 per cent). In this process, the
excavated soil is placed along the lower edge of the channel in the form of low ridge. вњ“ Narrow
based terrace: It consists of making a number of narrow based ridges or bunds at a distance of 1m
to 2m across the slope of the land at suitable intervals in high rainfall areas. вњ“ Broad based ridge
terrace: It consists of making wide but low bunds on the contour lines by excavating soils from
both sides of terrace. This is practiced in areas where the rainfall is relatively low. вњ“ Contour
trenching: It consist of making a series of deep pit (i.e. 2ft. wide and 1ft. deep) or trenches across
the slope at convenient distance. The soil excavated from the

Religious Experience
The study of religious and spiritual experiences can be complicated because so much time an
effort can be waste by trying to find a meaning to what experience is. Gadmmer states that the
concept of experience is one of the most obscure it exits. People are aware that experience is
something more than ere actions or behavior. Experience refers to a total way of acting or being
and cannot be reduced to its parts, even if those parts can be identified. Religionprovides meaning
and closure for many. Therefore, specifically religious experiences constitute a more restricted
range than the diversity that characterizes spiritual experiences. This parallels the distinction

There are many people who think that mystical experience cannot support a belief that one has
united with God or experienced ultimate reality. However for other people, mysticism is an
experience that provides reason to belief in God or ultimate reality. Thorner explains that mystics
claim that the perceptual referent in religions experiences is a unity within the world. On the other
hand, mystical experience is only one form of mysticism. Williams James presented the paradoxical
position of the emerging science of psychology. James did not make use of religious concepts such
as the soul in developing psychology as a natural science. In The Principles of Psychology, James
understood that there were no need for the concept of a soul or any transcendent dimension to
human consciousness. In The Varieties of Religious Experience he noted that the facts of mystical
experience required a wider dimension of human consciousness. Evolutionary theory has been a
continuous influence on psychology since the beginning. Many had proposed mysticism as a form
of consciousness that is evolving. Consciousness has evolved from the non reflective consciousness
that characterizes animals to the reflective consciousness that characterizes humans. Bucke is

Arguments For and Against Testing Children s Genetics Essay
The diseases that exist in our world are enough to make medicine and testing the only option of
hope in times of need. People grow up happy and healthy, only to be diagnosed, in their middle
age, with an adult onset disease. These diseases only become a burden as the victim gets older.
Some commonly known ones are Alzheimer s or Huntington s disease. There is no cure or treatment
for adult onset diseases like this. Knowing that the victims have these diseases written in their DNA
from the moment they were born leads to an interesting argument. Several communities argue about
whether parents or guardians should have the right to test their children for these diseases. There

Its up to the doctor and parents of that child to decide whether the risk of choosing for the child
is worth it or not. It is clear that there has been proof that this big decision can be ethical and
unethical, leading to only more controversy. Also, testing children for a disease that won t
develop for years can be socially harmful for them. First of all, children will often have difficulty
understanding and responding to the stresses of serious disease and death can lead to behavioral
problems (Klitzman). In several ways, it is better for the kid to learn about this when he or she
is old enough to understand. Finding out too soon can cause more issues than the knowledge is
worth. Growing up with that kind of depression can lead to needing an escape such as drug
abuse or drinking underage. Just having knowledge of carrying a disease can lead to
problematic situations while meeting new people. There have been cases where carriers of the
gene for sickle cell anemia have been denied employment as if they suffered from the disease (
Testing Children for Genetic Status ). Other people will treat the child differently through their
entire life because of simply knowing about it. Finally, testing for diseases too soon may lead to
unreasonably discourage patients from pursuing a particular life plan ( Testing Children for
Genetic Status ). Goals of going to college, getting married, and getting a job may

Teenage Pregnancy Is A Controversial Concept
Teenage pregnancy is a controversial concept nowadays. When a teen girl becomes pregnant
and goes to the doctor, the doctor must tell her parents, even if she does not want to. This causes
big issues because the girls feel like they have no privacy in their situation. I agree with the
doctors informing the young girls guardians because the girl is under their care, she is a minor,
and they must know what is going on. Some people though, have different opinions. Many
people believe that telling the parents their teen is pregnant is the correct decision. This is
because most teenagers don t fully understand how much responsibility and time goes into
providing care for a baby. She is too young to make her own decisions and needs contraceptive
advice from her parents, whom have experienced this in their lives. There was a study in
November of 2004 in which 11 women and 9 men were asked questions concerning their feeling
towards confidentiality (Dr Jane Carlisle
Public Health, School of Health and Related
Research, University of Sheffield May 2005). The results of this study were that the young girls
(aged 14 through 17) were more concerned about their privacy, especially the older ones (Dr Jane

As evidence of this, according to Learning to Learn, College teachers have expressed frustration
about attendance in class, uncompleted reading assignments, and student focus on grades rather than

value of what they are learning, and that many faculty rely too heavily on lectures for transmitting

Macbeth And Lady Macbeth Relationship
The relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth is not comparable to any other in the book.
William Shakespeare truly focused on their relationship and thus allowed readers to understand the
way the roles in the relationship are switched, the trust between them and how ambitious they are.
Macbeth and Lady Macbethare the two primary characters and thrive off each others actions and
decisions. Macbethand Lady Macbeths marriage revolves around the need for power, this is why
Macbeth is Lady Macbeth s transportation, and she is his fuel. Unfortunately, they are both
corrupted by the power they desire. They are partners in crime who slowly drift apart as the power
overcomes them.
Furthermore, Its is evident that throughout the first half of the play, Lady Macbeth plays the role
as the man, and Macbeth plays the role of the women. Lady Macbeth is the one first to suggest that

The Democracy Of Canadian Society
Canadians, like citizens of numerous countries around the world, take pride in living in a
democratic nation. While Canada is unequivocally a democracy, there are certain aspects of the
system that call into question its true democratic nature. The electoral system Canada currently has
in place is undemocratic and unjust, as it undermines millions of citizens rights to vote. This has
influenced a great deal of subsequent apathy and indifference toward politics in the masses, and
democracyno longer seems to be a benchmark of Canadian society.
It is imperative that Canada implement sweeping electoral reform to reintroduce balance and

The first step is the same; votes are tallied up for candidates, and whichever ones have the most
votes are sent to Parliament Hill. This step fills only half the seats in the House of Commons.
Once this process is completed, attention shifts to the second part of the ballot, as individual
votes for each party are counted. Once these numbers are announced, the remaining half of the
seats are distributed among all parties, in accordance with how many seats had already been won
in the first step, to ensure the final seat count is proportionate to the percentage of votes each
party received. Since the second half of the seats are assigned to a party and not to a specific

Coercive Control Summary
A Review of Evan Stark s Coercive Control Doctor Evan Stark began writing his book Coercive
Control: How Men Entrap Women in Personal Life in 1995. Unquestionably so, completing this
book was an extensive undertaking. His entrenchment and immersion in the field of domestic
violence relating to social work, legal/policy and research, spans far greater than the twelve years
it took him to complete this book in 2007. Stark draws from, and acknowledges, colleagues as well
friendships that have provided him with the knowledge base necessary to complete such an
exhaustive work. Dr. Stark s credentials in the area of violence against women developed through
both his own academic career and his professional achievements. Additionally, the network... Show

Stark explains that where women are already subordinate, wife beating is supported by the
patriarchy and is a function of specific factors. Under the law women were not equal citizens to
men, so women that were abused by their husbands or family members attributed it to bad luck.
Industrialization widened the work home divide. That is, work done in the home (women s
work) and wage labour (men s work) was separated by sex, and the latter was considered real
work. In tandem with political and legal gains, throughout the twentieth century the rate of
women participating in the work forced increased. As capitalism became the major form of
social organization, and women were liberated and emancipated from men and the private
sphere, violence was no longer sufficient to enforce dependence on individual men. Stark
explains that this was because the material and political basis for patriarchy was displaced, and
the illogical privilege based solely on sex was exposed. Sexual hierarchies began to collapse, and
men began using a range of behaviours to compliment their use of force. Although it was not
specifically written about before the 1970s, this became known as coercive control. Each household
governed by coercive control, each relationship, becomes patriarchy in miniature (p. 194). Stark

Speech In Henry V. Crispin s Day
This story shall the good man teach his son; and Crispin Crispian shall ne er go by, from this day
to the ending of the world, but we in it shall be remembered (Henry V, 4.3.) Henry s St. Crispin s
Day Speech was given prior to the Battle of Agincourt in 1415. The enemy that Henry V s men
faced had them vastly outnumbered. It is at this time that Henry sees his men s need of motivation
and takes on the role of a valiant king taking control of the situation. He seized the moment to
motivate and inspire them. Henry hopes by making an effective speech his men will understand
why they need to fight. When all seemed lost it was Henry s speech that was filled with persuasion
and patriotism that spurred the men on and gave them hope and victory. Through Henry s speech

Balancing Solidarity and Empathy
Going through life pathways you develop a sense of what you want to do with your time and with
your life so, it is asked what is more important to ones personal fulfillment furthermore, what
decisions and values are most important to you? Some believe that being in solidarity has more
advantages with getting tasks done than being around others for example, in the essay The
Rewards of Living a Solidarity Life author Mary Sarton explained that, Human intercourse often
demands that we soften the edge of perception, or withdraw at the very instant of personal truth for
fear of hurting, or being inappropriately present (42). Others argue that having empathy for others
can be better for you and for the world, in the memoir by author Azar NafisiMysterious Connections
that Link Us Together , says Through imagination and our desire for rappart we transcend our
limitations, freshen our eyes, and are able to look at ourselves and the world through a new and
alternative lens (44). Balancing alone time and working with others brings out the best in
everybody and can be important for ones personal fulfillment.
One of the arguments in personal relationships and having empathy for others is that empathy is
feeling that you understand and share another person s experience and emotions: the ability to share
someone else s feelings, for example Nafisi says I believe in the kind of empathy that is created
through imagination and through intimate, personal relationships (44). Some

Reflection About My Personal Identity
When I take a look beck on my lifetime, I see that I ve changed a great deal in regards to my
personal identity. For me to put entirely into words on a paper would take me days to explain
how and why things went the way they did, so I d like to shorten these feeling up. In my youth,
I had clearly planned to take the superhero path through life. Professional athlete, firefighter,
police officer, or basically anything portrayed in society as a model citizen, a class act if you
will, all racing through my mind when thinking about my future. I was mistaking, and for good
reason as I had these feelings until I was about ten years old. When the first year with two digits
associated itself with my age, a certain maturity occurred. I wouldn t classify it as a life
changing realization, but more of an assistant to my later discoveries. In the time I spent working
with my father, albeit mostly masonry work, I began to ask questions with higher frequency. For
myself, I wanted to further my knowledge, but at that time, I was really annoyed that I couldn t
understand certain aspects to building such as why we used Weld Crete on all of our bluestone
patios when it seemed that we were the only masons doing anything resemblant of our process. I
continued to question my father about how our creations held up and why we did certain things
that seemed unnecessary. Whether we were working on a fireplace, a patio, or a sprinkler system,
I was never satisfied until I understood why we took one

Analysis Of The Poem Dover Beach By Matthew Arnold

An Analysis of Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold
Dover Beach is thought to be one of the best representations of the Victorian Period all together. It
portrays the mood and tone of what the people experienced and felt at that time. Around the same
time it was written, London had just experienced a massive boom in their population, growing
from 2 to 6 million citizens. At the same time, London was becoming one of the first in the
country to move towards industrialization, causing some to lose their jobs due to machinery
performing them better and faster. People began to feel useless with technology taking over so
quickly. Many suffered from the expansion during the early part, losing all hope of finding
happiness and giving this moment in time a new name; A Time of Troubles .
Many other authors, like Matthew Arnold, began writing their personal accounts of what they
experienced or saw others experiencing, giving the feeling of melancholy. The reason why Dover
Beach represents the Victorian period is because in the way Arnold wrote it, he didn t ground
himself or stick to one specific subject. He creates a mood by using a variety of images,
metaphors, similes, and adjectives. The narrator seems lonely, not mentioning any other person
around him. One of the other major problems being experienced during this time are also
represented in this poem. That problem is the loss of faith. Because of the new developments,

We dream every day. Sometimes people remember what they dream, and sometime people forget
what they dream about. There is a possibility of forgetting the dreams by the time a person gets out

How To Read In Elementary School
In elementary school the one subject I always would struggle with was spelling. At the end of
every week we would have a spelling test based on a set of words that came from a vocabulary

week s test and examine the words for the test that week. I would always study and would try a

what process I used my grade would always end up being poor. My mom would always be on me
about doing better on the test but nothing would come about from that. So, my mom decided to
get involved and attempt to raise my grades. At first she tried studying with me. She would go
over the words with me and use the methods I had previously used myself. After studying with
my mom, I would always feel more confident but the grades I would receive were still subpar. It
was frustrating. For some reason, it was just a task for me to spell. I would make up fake dieses

Essay On The Tabernacle
Chapter 7
The Tabernacle of the Old Testament The words tabernacle and temple can be confusing; let me in
a simple way explain the difference. Firstly the tabernacle is the English translation of the Hebrew
word ЧћЦґЧ©ЧЃЦ°Ч›ЦјЦёЧџ mishkan , which simply means residence or dwelling place.
According to the Hebrew Bible this was a portable dwelling place for the presence of God, from
the time of the Exodus to the conquering of the Promise Land (Canaan). In contrast the temple is
the English translation of the Hebrew word Ч”ЦµЧ™Ч›ЦёЧњ heykal , meaning a large public
building. Unlike the tabernacle, the temple was stationary and also called the palace of Jehovah . It
was an elaborately ordained holy place where the people congregated to worship God.
I will focus this chapter on the original tabernacle, which was God s idea, initiative, design and plan
constructed by Moses. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the building of the tabernacle the people came together in obedience to the Word of God given
through Moses. I will not go into the specific measurements of the tabernacle, but I will say its
total square area was 7,500sq.ft. I will explore the three compartments of the tabernacle, the
contents that are within them, and also the connection between the tabernacle and its relevance to
worship in Moses time and how it is symbolic of today s worship.
There are three compartments within the tabernacle: the Outer Court where the brazen altar and
the washbasin are, then walking through a veiled curtain was the Holy Place (also known as the
inner court) where the menorah, the table of showbread and the altar of incense was placed, and
finally the Holy of Holies where the ark of the covenant was found.

A Summary Of HIPPA Hurdles
In his Modern Healthcare article, HIPPA Hurdles , author Joe Carlson exclaims his concern for
the new rules set in HIPPA that will be put into place this month. HIPPA is a set of measures,
and laws, that healthcare provider s take to ensure they are safeguarding patient s health
information (Carlson 2013). Carlson is speaking up for most healthcare providers when he
describes his distaste for these new provisions in the Omnibus HIPPA Final Rule. The main
issue in these provisions states that providers will have to Honor requests from patients to
withhold sensitive records from insurance companies if the bills are paid out of pocket. (Carlson
2013). He asserts that the reason this will become an issue is because no one has the technology
to simply safeguard one hospital or doctor visit from insurers, and that their own technological
programs compile everything together and make this request difficult. While this new rule may
be helping out patients, it will be causing more hardships and possible punishments when the
healthcare providers forget or are not able to do as the patient asks. By grabbing his audience s
attention through appealing to our logic and emotions, Carlson does succeed in informing us
about these new concerns. Throughout Carlson s article he uses a great deal of other
commentary to help get his point across. With that being said, this allows readers to gain trust in
what he is writing about because the credentials of these said people are worthy and believable.
Carlson will begin speaking about how getting these healthcare providers to comply with the
new provisions will be a hard task. He then will finish it off with a quote like, Overall,
compliance is an ongoing effort and it is something that entities should be thinking about every
day, says Susan McAndrew, deputy director for health information privacy at the Office for Civil
Rights. It needs to be on everyone s mind, not something that they will think about once a year (as
cited in Carlson, 2013). Carlson makes sure he gets his point across, but also makes sure the
readers know he has done a great deal of research on this topic so as to slowly gain their trust
throughout his article. Another instance can be taken from when

Teen Mothers And The Rates Of Teen Pregnancy
According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), The United States ranks first among
developed nations in rates of both teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases (Stanger
Hall, Kathrin F., and David W. Hall, paragraph 1). In 2015, there were a total of 229,715 babies
born to teen moms between the ages of 15 19 (Reproductive Health: Teen Pregnancy, paragraph 1).
It is not just becoming a problem; it has been a problem for a while. It does not help the problem
when there are reality television shows making it look glamorous to be a young mom. Shows like
Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant makes it seem like no matter what goes wrong, everything always
ends happily ever after. Unfortunately, for most people (teen moms included) life is not a fairy
tale, not everyone gets a happily ever after.
There are many reasons why we need to decrease teen pregnancy rates. The first of which is the
economic costs. According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) In 2010, teen
pregnancy and childbirth accounted for at least $9.4 billion in costs to U.S. taxpayers for increased
health care and foster care, increased incarceration rates among children of teen parents, and lost tax
revenue because of lower educational attainment and income among teen mothers (Reproductive

Summary Of Erikson s Stages Of Psychosocial Development
Today I am going to narrate and reflect on one of my elderly relative s life using Erikson s stages
of psychosocial development, which consist of eight stages from infancy to adulthood. When I
asked Harold if I could do my life narrative paper on him, he brought up concerns about how
accurate his life would be portrayed in the paper, because he knows that I am a writer and I
might consider using this piece as inspiration for a novel or a short story. I quickly ensured him
that I would not turn in this paper until he was happy with my portrayal of his life. He suggested
that I do the paper in the style of Rolling Stone magazine interviews and I agreed because in that
style, I would be narrating his narrative of his life, while adding my own psychology perspective
on it, making it an academic paper that still stays honest to his perspective. We began the interview
at a restaurant near the intersection of 44th Street and Eastern called New Beginnings. I ordered a
meat lover s omelette with shredded hash browns and water, Harold ordered scrambled eggs with
diced hash browns and coffee. He mentioned that his mother used to make the best scrambled eggs,
which was a natural transition into starting the interview with a conversation about his mother.
Erikson s first... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this stage teachers will start to take on a bigger role in a child s development, because
they will be teaching the child skills valued by society like reading, writing, and math. The child
s peer group will also become more important, and a major source of the child s self esteem. If
the child is encouraged to learn, the child will feel pride in their accomplishments and move on
successfully to the next stage. However if a child cannot develop specific skills, then the child will
feel inferior in comparison to it s peers who have mastered the

Long-Term Effects of Divorce on Adolescent Boys and Girls
Long Term Effects of Divorce on Adolescent Boys and Girls
Undra Parker
Wayland Baptist University
Abstract
Parental divorce can result in devastating effects on children. These children suffer tremendous long
term consequences as a result of an event that is not their doing. This paper reviews literature and
opinions concerning the long term effects of divorce on adolescents. The paper outlines four major
areas of interest: aggression as a result of parental conflict and the different types associated with
boys and girls, depression in the lives of boys and girls in its various forms, the choice boys and
girls make to marry or not later in life and the possibility of adolescents expressing parental
alienation. The results of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a study published in 2007, Sarrazin and Cyr claim that aggression is more rampant if the child
is left in the custody of the less dominant parent. If the child identifies him or herself with the less
dominating opposite sex or the dominating same sex parent there could be increased problems of
aggression. If the father is the dominant figure then boys show fewer problems and vice versa
for girls if the mother is the dominant figure [ (Sarrazin amp; Cyr, 2007) ]. The father figure is
very important especially to adolescent boys because when father is absent they react more
aggressively than girls [ (Dreman, 2000; Sarrazin amp; Cyr, 2007) ]. Portnoy [ (2006) ] stated
that 20 percent of divorced fathers do not see their children at all during their high school years [
(p. 76) ]. Oftentimes when boys are placed in the custody of the mother these mothers identify sons
with their ex spouse which results in the child exerting more aggression either towards the custodial
parent, non custodial parent or others [ (Dreman, 2000) ].
Research has identified different types of aggression to include instrumental, reactive, relational,
bullying aggression (Berger, 2008; Merrell, Buchanan, amp; Tran, 2006; Cappella amp; Weinstein,
2006) and social aggression [ (Merrell, Buchanan, amp; Tran, 2006; Cappella amp; Weinstein,
2006) ].

Corporate Culture Of Mcdonald s A Global Fast Food Giant
4.0 Findings
The next four sub sections discuss the main findings revealed from the reviewed articles. These are
the findings below.
4.1 Global Corporate Giant
McDonald s is a global fast food giant with presence in numerous countries for a long period
(Gasparro and Jargon, 2011). The corporation has evolved over years to offer fast food services
first in America then to the rest of the world. As a result, the corporation has a global orientation
regarding its culture due to the aspect of operating in many countries (Trompenaars and Hampden
Turner, 2012). It is an established fact that the corporate culture of McDonald s with informs its
business strategy is multifaceted in nature. The company is multicultural in virtually all aspects of
its identity (Parijs, 2004). First is the fact that it operates in several countries. According to
Christiansen (2012), each country has a different cultural orientation. To survive the tirade of
culture, the organisation has identified cultural diversity as its strategy. The company considers
the globe as a single unit for business expediency. However, this does not imply a blanket
strategy regarding business operation. In offering products and services, McDonald s considered
the respective cultures of its various franchisees and subsidiaries (Horovitz, 2011). The food
products along with nature of service are informed by local culture. However, the echelon decision
making process is global in nature (Bowersox et al, 2012). The culture

Vertical Integration at Johnson Johnson
Johnson Johnson: Planning Vertical Integration
Team Synergy
April 4, 2011
In a competitive market to which Johnson and Johnson operates, the smallest of errors can lead to
consequences which can cut revenue. When large mistakes occur, millions of dollars are lost, and
even worse, there is a loss of customer confidence. Johnson and Johnson has had numerous recalls
in their consumer healthcare division recently, which rocked the organization s once sound image,
and diminished its profits. These recalls have hurt Johnson and Johnson s stocks and cost the
company about $900 million in sales last year (Rockoff, 2011).
Opportunity
For Johnson and Johnson to continue being an industry leader, change is needed. An overhaul of
the company s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The vertical integration of J J into health services was a win win for the company, employers
targeted as customers, and employees (Sarasohn Kahn, 2008). The expanded growth capability
through acquiring companies in the downstream will continue to help the organization offer more
products and services. The current problem is that with various product offerings the quality and
safety guidelines may have been overlooked. The product recalls have been a result of poor quality
management and errors in the manufacturing process. The key benefits of backward vertical
integration are: more control over the manufacturing of J J products, advanced technology, and
more trusted industry experience. If J J has greater control over the upstream (selection of raw
materials, production, manufacturing, marketing, and distribution) then greater stability and higher
quality goods will be sent to retailers.
Implementing Solutions
In order for Johnson Johnson to achieve success in its vertical integration process, they need to
create a new position under CEO, William Weldon to manage the Signature of Quality Committee
members (SOQ) and to oversee the full supply chain processes. This role will be known as the
Senior Director of Quality. Within the next 30 days, a Cross functional team made up of the CEO,
the Vice President of HR, and Ajit Shetty (in charge of operations for J J pharmaceuticals, medical
device and consumer segments)

Social Media On Real World Friendships And Interactions
Social media does impede on real world friendships and interactions because it takes away from
one on one emotional experience with close friends which is vital for a happier and healthier
life. Social media is ruining true friendships and conversation. Social media takes away from
face to face relationships that are so important. Face to face relationships requires commitment,
time, and nurturing. Social media sites impede on relationships by threating true friendships.
Face to face relationships are very important because through contact we are getting live
interaction, trust, honesty, and integrity. Face to face conversations are more positive and more
reliable than friendships online. In cyber space you convers ate with friends but some will not
acknowledge the friendship in public. Social media is slowly taking away from face to face
relationships, because we contact our family and friends on the computer screen. We are typing
while looking at the screen instead of seeing facial expressions. Therefore, we aren t sure if they
are interpreting what we are saying in a negative or positive way. Social media such as Facebook,
Twitter, MySpace, Instagram, and Flicker was invented to keep us in touch and keep us closer to
our family and friends. But according to How Facebook ruins Friendships we took our friendship
online (Bernstein). First we began communicating more by email than by phone and then switched
to instant messaging or texting. By joining social Medias online

Analysis Of The Red Pyramid
Just like a pyramid, all things need a structure to help the object fulfill its objective. The novel,
The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan displays the adventurous life of two young children, Sadie
and Carter Kane, attempting to save their father, Julius Kane, and the world from the god of
chaos, Set. Traveling to different cities in order to gain many allies and valuable information on
how to stop Set, Carter and Sadie also gain fierce enemies in their intriguing journey. Telling the
story in a first person point of view, Sadie and Carter help the reader visualize both sides of the
story and how one s perspective can be so different from another. By looking at the rules and order
of the book, the characters and the religious plot, it is clear... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Furthermore, when Sadie and Carter go to retrieve the feather of truth, which is one of the
mandatory objects needed in order to seal up Set, he takes Sadie to the throne of Ma at, the
creation of magic, Why are the scales broken? [Sadie] asked. Anubis frowned. Ma at is weakening.
[Anubis] tried to fix them, but... he spread his hands helplessly. (Riordan 355)
The order of the book is given a foreshadow of what is bound to happen in advance giving Sadie a
chance to change the future for the better. In conclusion, the orders and rules of the book enhances
the theme of learning your own mistakes. Characters is a main contribution to the plot. The
characters allow the plot to be told from their viewpoint and allow the reader to imagine themselves
in that character s shoe. In the novel, The Red Pyramid, Sadie and Carter are affected by the people
surrounding them, varying from gods to family, they adapt to their environment by communicating
and learning the ways they act and live. As Iskandar, the last chief of the House of Life, is
explaining to the kids Julius regrets, he is warning them to not do anything reckless by telling them
the mistakes that Julius made, [Their] mother foresaw a great imbalance... [Julius] knew in [his]
heart she was right, but [he] refused to believe... and [their] parents took it upon themselves to act.
They sacrificed themselves trying to put things right, because [Iskandar] was too stubborn to

Hitler s Involvement In World War II
World War II (WW2 or WWII), also referred to as the Second World War, was a global war that
took place between 1939 and 1945 (Bell, 1997). The war involved the world nations vast majority,
including the entire great powers that ultimately formed two opposing military alliances, namely
the Axis and the Allies (Hinde Rotblat, 2002). According to Bell (1997), the Second World War
was the most extensive in history and over one hundred million people from over thirty world
countries had direct involvement in it. World War Two was a state of total war, and the primary
participants threw their full scientific, industrial, and economic capabilities behind the war effort
(Murphy Bailey, 1997). Manifested by civilians mass deaths, including the... Show more content on

1934 during the Night of the long Knives when Hitler s enemies got rounded up and slaughtered.
Despite not being hesitant in eliminating those who opposed him, Hitler gained control over the
soul and heart of the Germans through his exploitation of xenophobia and anger in Germany
(Stern Weinberg, 1995). Germany s arming got accelerated, and the Third Reich had just arrived
since the Nazis took charge as the path to the Second World War opened up, a war that would later

Theory of Mind Essay
Describe what evolutionary psychologists mean when they employ the term theory of mind . Use
examples and research studies from Book 1, Chapter 2 to show why this theory is important in
evolutionary psychology.
Evolutionary psychology is a specialist field within the spectrum of psychological enquiry, which
seeks to examine and understand some of the predominant reasoning behind the concept of why the
human species, whilst biologically similar to other species on the planet, is so very distinct in terms
of intelligence and mental progression; demonstrated by the multifaceted and complex social
structures we have created. Primary to this domain of evolutionary psychological interest is the
notion of theory of mind , which was developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example would be the assumption that because someone is sleeping, they are tired. Counter
deception involves an individual separating the overt actions of another from what their actual
motivation for behaving in that particular way is. This could be seen in the form of reverse
psychology . Recognition of intervening variables understands how certain events and situations
can cause particular reactions and responses from others. An example of this would be a fight
situation, where the attacked party could well feel afraid, and as a result run away. The final
variation of mind reading is that of experience projection; which allows individuals to apply their
personal experiences onto other people. For example, someone who broke their leg and
experienced the pain, would be able to empathise with another individual who they saw break their
leg.
In 1988, Premack carried out a research study which would appear to support the notion of the
theory of mind . In his study, which was centred on an adult chimpanzee called Sarah; he exposed
her to videotapes of an actor with a problem, namely an inability to reach some bananas that were
placed out of reach overhead. He then proceeded to show Sarah a number of photographed
solutions to the problem, only one of which actually evidenced a successful solution to the problem,
(in this situation, it was stepping on a

Frankle Concepts. Victor Frankle Professional Practice
Frankle Concepts Victor Frankle professional practice lies within therapy, where his ideas and

11), as well can be defined as a constellation of attitudes, beliefs, and behavioral tendencies that
consist of three components: commitment, control, and challenge (Lambert, Clinton, Vickie, 1999,
p. 11). Maddi referred control as each individual has control over decisions, their destiny, and how
they react to situations. Challenge refers to individual s attitude toward challenge and change.
Maddi found that individuals who were resistance to change, and did not embrace challenge had
lower levels of hardiness. Lastly, commitment, which refers to individuals sense of purpose and
meaning in what they do, whether is everyday life, a new experience, or through work. An
important implication of high levels of hardiness, specifically in work or stressful situations,
where results from analyses found that individuals had lower levels of overall stress and lower
risks of burnout, which in life no one wishes to be under constant stress (Lambert, Clinton, Vickie,
1999, p. 11). As discussed by Malloy Lang, Frankl expressed that an effective leadership remains
in the affective realm of helping employees to find meaning in their roles and practices (2016,
p.116), and further, it is about the humanistic and tacit aspects that are fundamentally located in the
rational (2016, p. 116). As a leader, it is essential to connect with those around you, encourage
individuals to express and put forward their best skills, input, and

Revolutionary Dbq Analysis
I believe that the Revolutionary War was not actually as revolutionary as the name suggests
because, although some of the documents suggest that major change was brought about after the
war, the majority of the documents made me come to the conclusion that there were not as many
results of the war as widely expected. A prime example is Document 6, where an African American
valedictorian questions the possibilities of him getting a job among white people. He is a well
educated young adult, but with no jobs available to him, he must enter servitude. Another reason
supporting my claim is the fact that in Document 8 it took more than 140 years for women to have
the same voting rights as men (made a law in the 19th Amendment). The definition of

  • 2. Female Film Directors and the British Film Industry In this essay I will be discussing whether female filmmakers in Britain find it easier to make a documentary feature than a fiction feature film in the current British film industry. I will be referring to the opinions and films of Kim Longinotto, Carol Morley, Clio Barnard and Alison Stirling. I will also be looking at the statistics from filmfestivals and the British Film Institute, and interviews with various British female filmmakers. I will argue that documentaries are easier to make due to them being less expensive to make and not requiring a large crew. I will try to show that female filmmakers are less like to get funding for a fiction feature film due to the people that make the decisions in terms of granting funding for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even more worryingly, women accounted for just 7.8% of directors on UK films in 2012, a decrease of more than 7% year on year (15% in 2011) (www.wftv.org.uk). This means that there were 165 male directors, but only 14 female directors. This equals the amount of female directors currently working in TV drama, as reported by Directors UK. (http://www.directors.uk.com/about us/news/where are women directors asks d uk board member beryl richards broadcast) There are several successful women making fiction feature films within the UK, such as Clio Barnard, Lynne Ramsay, however there are still relatively few British women directing feature films. In the areas of documentary and experimental film, however, women have directed a substantial body of work. This suggests that away from the constraints of the commercial film industry, greater opportunities still exist to explore the representation of women s lives and their subjective experience within Britain (Helen Wheatley Aitken, 2005). Pratibha Parmer, a UK documentary maker, believes that women have trouble getting into fiction filmmaking and states that, some female directors have produced fictional work, but we can still say that this is the exception rather than the rule. These are two very different worlds, and the passage between them is not easy. There are very few women who can break through into the world of fiction filmmaking, partly because of the enormous budgets involved, the great risks and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Royal Military College as an Instrument for Molding Military Offices To view the Royal Military College (RMC) as an instrument for molding military officers for the nation would be an accurate means of outlining the institutions objective. In the Organizational Behavior Concepts, Controversies, Applications, textbook by Stephen Robbins and Nancy Langton, organizational culture is defined as: a system of shared meaning and common perception held by members of an organization that distinguishes it from other organizations. (Robbins and Langton 316) Like all institutions RMC is full of variables and cleavages that link peoples together in a variety of manners. There is however more than simply a catchy motto Truth, Duty,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While in the early part of the last century some of the original goals of RMC included producing quality officers in Canada for the war effort at the same time developing Canadian autonomy from Great Britain; today s goals and objectives are indeed different. Yet the point remains that the college did not get shut down when the mandate changed. This fact reflects its immortality. There are many other military academies in the world; an example of one closest to home is that of the United States Military Academy, WestPoint. RMC and WestPoint have nursed a competitive rivalry since the early years of RMC. While both institutions are in the business of producing commissioned officers for their respective nations, the two academies are very different in terms of character and personality. According to the field of organizational behavior, institutions are said to have personalities just as people do. This is where culture plays a role in each respective military academy and determining the atmosphere of the institution. At both RMC and WestPoint there are differing notions of acceptable behavior. The first years at WestPoint are treated very differently than they are at RMC. The USMA 4th classman, also known around the campus as pleebe is kept distant from the upper years at WestPoint. While RMC has taken a very different stance, whereby first year cadets are treated as full fledge members of the Cadet Wing. The character of the two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Climate Change Is An Important Issue That Concerns Humanity Climate change is an important issue that concerns humanity. Climate change refers to an increase in average global temperatures. Every day, the enhanced greenhouse effect continues to advance, which significantly influences Earth s long term climate. In addition, human activity is also contributing to the increase of global warmingand is already leading to harmful consequences. Some people believe that global warming is not occurring and the heating of the globe, is just a part of the Earth s natural cycle. Several consequences such as, ice caps melting, show us that global warming is in fact occurring. Therefore, we should start making changes in order to reduce future damages to the Earth. The enhanced greenhouse gas effect is one of the many reasons why global warming is occurring. Heat that is being trapped by the Earth s surface is known as the natural greenhouse effect. However, throughout the last decades since the Industrial Revolution, the natural greenhouse effect has been disrupted due to greenhouse gas trapping too much heat in the Earth s atmosphere. The enhanced greenhouse gas effect is the extra heating of the Earth s atmosphere caused by increased levels of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane, in the atmosphere. According to Cheryl Jakabs, carbon dioxide levels are now 100 parts per million higher than the beginning of the 1800s. Furthermore, this increase of greenhouse gases may lead to an increase of natural disasters. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Pros And Cons Of Drug Legalization Pros and Cons of Drug Legalization With the onslaught of states slowly legalizing the commercialization and use of marijuana after the passing of sanctioning initiatives led by Colorado and Washington in 2012, societal attitudes have begun to support this movement in the decriminalization of marijuana for personal use. Based on the 2014 midterms, momentum for this change has been shown in different parts of the U.S., with states such as Oregon, Alaska, and Washington D.C. joining this cause. It is safe to assume that several other states will soon follow suit, with ballot initiatives set for 2016 in states such as: Massachusetts, California, Missouri, Hawaii, Maine, Nevada, and Arizona (Becker, 2014). However, the long standing debate still stands, is this change for the better? In a world with less restrictions on illegal drugs such as marijuana, would the pros outweigh the cons? Although the answer may not be clear cut, considering the arguments made by both the supporting side and the opposing side of marijuana legalization for public consumption will help us create an opinion on what values should be taken priority on when it comes to the consequences related to advocating this movement. Based on the arguments made from the perspective of a supporter in marijuana legalization, complete legalization would bring an end to illicit dealings on the streets, as there would be no reason for consumers to interact with shady sellers when it s already offered commercially. ... All the plant family, animal kingdom and human society at large depend upon soil for their sustenance directly or indirectly. Ironically, soil is the most neglected commodity on the earth. Shifting cultivation on the hill slopes, non adoption of soil conservation techniques, and over exploitation of land for crop production due to population stress, leads to enormous soil erosion. It will take hundreds of years to form an inch of soil, but in no time it gets washed away down the slope due to erosion. Gadmmer states that the concept of experience is one of the most obscure it exits. People are aware that experience is something more than ere actions or behavior. Experience refers to a total way of acting or being and cannot be reduced to its parts, even if those parts can be identified. Religionprovides meaning and closure for many. There are many people who think that mystical experience cannot support a belief that one has united with God or experienced ultimate reality. However for other people, mysticism is an experience that provides reason to belief in God or ultimate reality. Thorner explains that mystics claim that the perceptual referent in religions experiences is a unity within the world. On the other hand, mystical experience is only one form of mysticism. Williams James presented the paradoxical position of the emerging science of psychology. James did not make use of religious concepts such as the soul in developing psychology as a natural science. In The Principles of Psychology, James understood that there were no need for the concept of a soul or any transcendent dimension to human consciousness. In The Varieties of Religious Experience he noted that the facts of mystical experience required a wider dimension of human consciousness. Evolutionary theory has been a continuous influence on psychology since the beginning. Many had proposed mysticism as a form of consciousness that is evolving. • 15. Arguments For and Against Testing Children s Genetics Essay The diseases that exist in our world are enough to make medicine and testing the only option of hope in times of need. People grow up happy and healthy, only to be diagnosed, in their middle age, with an adult onset disease. These diseases only become a burden as the victim gets older. Some commonly known ones are Alzheimer s or Huntington s disease. There is no cure or treatment for adult onset diseases like this. Knowing that the victims have these diseases written in their DNA from the moment they were born leads to an interesting argument. It is clear that there has been proof that this big decision can be ethical and unethical, leading to only more controversy. Also, testing children for a disease that won t develop for years can be socially harmful for them. First of all, children will often have difficulty understanding and responding to the stresses of serious disease and death can lead to behavioral problems (Klitzman). In several ways, it is better for the kid to learn about this when he or she is old enough to understand. Finding out too soon can cause more issues than the knowledge is worth. Growing up with that kind of depression can lead to needing an escape such as drug abuse or drinking underage. Just having knowledge of carrying a disease can lead to problematic situations while meeting new people. There have been cases where carriers of the gene for sickle cell anemia have been denied employment as if they suffered from the disease ( Testing Children for Genetic Status ). • 16. Teenage Pregnancy Is A Controversial Concept Teenage pregnancy is a controversial concept nowadays. When a teen girl becomes pregnant and goes to the doctor, the doctor must tell her parents, even if she does not want to. This causes big issues because the girls feel like they have no privacy in their situation. I agree with the doctors informing the young girls guardians because the girl is under their care, she is a minor, and they must know what is going on. Some people though, have different opinions. Many people believe that telling the parents their teen is pregnant is the correct decision. This is because most teenagers don t fully understand how much responsibility and time goes into providing care for a baby. She is too young to make her own decisions and needs contraceptive advice from her parents, whom have experienced this in their lives. There was a study in November of 2004 in which 11 women and 9 men were asked questions concerning their feeling towards confidentiality (Dr Jane Carlisle

While Canada is unequivocally a democracy, there are certain aspects of the system that call into question its true democratic nature. The electoral system Canada currently has in place is undemocratic and unjust, as it undermines millions of citizens rights to vote. This has influenced a great deal of subsequent apathy and indifference toward politics in the masses, and democracyno longer seems to be a benchmark of Canadian society. The first step is the same; votes are tallied up for candidates, and whichever ones have the most votes are sent to Parliament Hill. This step fills only half the seats in the House of Commons. Once this process is completed, attention shifts to the second part of the ballot, as individual votes for each party are counted. Once these numbers are announced, the remaining half of the seats are distributed among all parties, in accordance with how many seats had already been won in the first step, to ensure the final seat count is proportionate to the percentage of votes each party received. Since the second half of the seats are assigned to a party and not to a specific candidate, it is the parties duty to make a list of the candidates, those of which were not elected within a riding, that they would like to appoint to enter parliament. Under the law women were not equal citizens to men, so women that were abused by their husbands or family members attributed it to bad luck. Industrialization widened the work home divide. That is, work done in the home (women s work) and wage labour (men s work) was separated by sex, and the latter was considered real work. In tandem with political and legal gains, throughout the twentieth century the rate of women participating in the work forced increased. As capitalism became the major form of social organization, and women were liberated and emancipated from men and the private sphere, violence was no longer sufficient to enforce dependence on individual men. Stark explains that this was because the material and political basis for patriarchy was displaced, and the illogical privilege based solely on sex was exposed. Sexual hierarchies began to collapse, and men began using a range of behaviours to compliment their use of force. Although it was not specifically written about before the 1970s, this became known as coercive control. Each household governed by coercive control, each relationship, becomes patriarchy in miniature (p. 194). Stark concludes this section by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Analysis Of The Poem Dover Beach By Matthew Arnold Monelle Shuman English Lit 202 K. Morefield December 1, 2014 An Analysis of Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold Dover Beach is thought to be one of the best representations of the Victorian Period all together. It portrays the mood and tone of what the people experienced and felt at that time. Around the same time it was written, London had just experienced a massive boom in their population, growing from 2 to 6 million citizens. At the same time, London was becoming one of the first in the country to move towards industrialization, causing some to lose their jobs due to machinery performing them better and faster. People began to feel useless with technology taking over so quickly. Many suffered from the expansion during the early part, losing all hope of finding happiness and giving this moment in time a new name; A Time of Troubles . Many other authors, like Matthew Arnold, began writing their personal accounts of what they experienced or saw others experiencing, giving the feeling of melancholy. The reason why Dover Beach represents the Victorian period is because in the way Arnold wrote it, he didn t ground himself or stick to one specific subject. He creates a mood by using a variety of images, metaphors, similes, and adjectives. The narrator seems lonely, not mentioning any other person around him. One of the other major problems being experienced during this time are also represented in this poem. That problem is the loss of faith. Because of the new developments, ... The end of the report will establish a possible recommendation to help guide Tesco strategy in the future. PESTEL Analysis Political Factors: When it comes down to Tesco s worldwide presence is that their performance will be influenced by global political factors which include, tax rate, acts of legislation and the overall political stability of the countries the company operates in. Due to the ongoing financial instability across the world, the governments have increasingly encouraged retailers to create more jobs and opportunities for the local people. • 38. A Summary Of HIPPA Hurdles In his Modern Healthcare article, HIPPA Hurdles , author Joe Carlson exclaims his concern for the new rules set in HIPPA that will be put into place this month. HIPPA is a set of measures, and laws, that healthcare provider s take to ensure they are safeguarding patient s health information (Carlson 2013). Carlson is speaking up for most healthcare providers when he describes his distaste for these new provisions in the Omnibus HIPPA Final Rule. The main issue in these provisions states that providers will have to Honor requests from patients to withhold sensitive records from insurance companies if the bills are paid out of pocket. (Carlson 2013). He asserts that the reason this will become an issue is because no one has the technology to simply safeguard one hospital or doctor visit from insurers, and that their own technological programs compile everything together and make this request difficult. While this new rule may be helping out patients, it will be causing more hardships and possible punishments when the healthcare providers forget or are not able to do as the patient asks. By grabbing his audience s attention through appealing to our logic and emotions, Carlson does succeed in informing us about these new concerns. Throughout Carlson s article he uses a great deal of other commentary to help get his point across. With that being said, this allows readers to gain trust in what he is writing about because the credentials of these said people are worthy and believable. Carlson will begin speaking about how getting these healthcare providers to comply with the new provisions will be a hard task. He then will finish it off with a quote like, Overall, compliance is an ongoing effort and it is something that entities should be thinking about every day, says Susan McAndrew, deputy director for health information privacy at the Office for Civil Rights. It needs to be on everyone s mind, not something that they will think about once a year (as cited in Carlson, 2013). Carlson makes sure he gets his point across, but also makes sure the readers know he has done a great deal of research on this topic so as to slowly gain their trust throughout his article. • 39. Teen Mothers And The Rates Of Teen Pregnancy According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), The United States ranks first among developed nations in rates of both teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases (Stanger Hall, Kathrin F., and David W. Hall, paragraph 1). In 2015, there were a total of 229,715 babies born to teen moms between the ages of 15 19 (Reproductive Health: Teen Pregnancy, paragraph 1). It is not just becoming a problem; it has been a problem for a while. It does not help the problem when there are reality television shows making it look glamorous to be a young mom. Shows like Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant makes it seem like no matter what goes wrong, everything always ends happily ever after. Unfortunately, for most people (teen moms included) life is not a fairy tale, not everyone gets a happily ever after. There are many reasons why we need to decrease teen pregnancy rates. The first of which is the economic costs. According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) In 2010, teen pregnancy and childbirth accounted for at least $9.4 billion in costs to U.S. taxpayers for increased health care and foster care, increased incarceration rates among children of teen parents, and lost tax revenue because of lower educational attainment and income among teen mothers (Reproductive Health: Teen Pregnancy, paragraph 9). • 41. Summary Of Erikson s Stages Of Psychosocial Development Today I am going to narrate and reflect on one of my elderly relative s life using Erikson s stages of psychosocial development, which consist of eight stages from infancy to adulthood. When I asked Harold if I could do my life narrative paper on him, he brought up concerns about how accurate his life would be portrayed in the paper, because he knows that I am a writer and I might consider using this piece as inspiration for a novel or a short story. I quickly ensured him that I would not turn in this paper until he was happy with my portrayal of his life. He suggested that I do the paper in the style of Rolling Stone magazine interviews and I agreed because in that style, I would be narrating his narrative of his life, while adding my own psychology perspective on it, making it an academic paper that still stays honest to his perspective. We began the interview at a restaurant near the intersection of 44th Street and Eastern called New Beginnings. I ordered a meat lover s omelette with shredded hash browns and water, Harold ordered scrambled eggs with diced hash browns and coffee. He mentioned that his mother used to make the best scrambled eggs, which was a natural transition into starting the interview with a conversation about his mother. Erikson s first... These children suffer tremendous long term consequences as a result of an event that is not their doing. This paper reviews literature and opinions concerning the long term effects of divorce on adolescents. The paper outlines four major areas of interest: aggression as a result of parental conflict and the different types associated with boys and girls, depression in the lives of boys and girls in its various forms, the choice boys and girls make to marry or not later in life and the possibility of adolescents expressing parental alienation. In a study published in 2007, Sarrazin and Cyr claim that aggression is more rampant if the child is left in the custody of the less dominant parent. If the child identifies him or herself with the less dominating opposite sex or the dominating same sex parent there could be increased problems of aggression. If the father is the dominant figure then boys show fewer problems and vice versa for girls if the mother is the dominant figure [ (Sarrazin amp; Cyr, 2007) ]. The father figure is very important especially to adolescent boys because when father is absent they react more aggressively than girls [ (Dreman, 2000; Sarrazin amp; Cyr, 2007) ]. Portnoy [ (2006) ] stated that 20 percent of divorced fathers do not see their children at all during their high school years [ (p. 76) ]. Oftentimes when boys are placed in the custody of the mother these mothers identify sons with their ex spouse which results in the child exerting more aggression either towards the custodial parent, non custodial parent or others [ (Dreman, 2000) ]. Research has identified different types of aggression to include instrumental, reactive, relational, bullying aggression (Berger, 2008; Merrell, Buchanan, amp; Tran, 2006; Cappella amp; Weinstein, 2006) and social aggression [ (Merrell, Buchanan, amp; Tran, 2006; Cappella amp; Weinstein, 2006) ]. ... These are the findings below. 4.1 Global Corporate Giant McDonald s is a global fast food giant with presence in numerous countries for a long period (Gasparro and Jargon, 2011). The corporation has evolved over years to offer fast food services first in America then to the rest of the world. As a result, the corporation has a global orientation regarding its culture due to the aspect of operating in many countries (Trompenaars and Hampden Turner, 2012). It is an established fact that the corporate culture of McDonald s with informs its business strategy is multifaceted in nature. The company is multicultural in virtually all aspects of its identity (Parijs, 2004). First is the fact that it operates in several countries. According to Christiansen (2012), each country has a different cultural orientation. To survive the tirade of culture, the organisation has identified cultural diversity as its strategy. The company considers the globe as a single unit for business expediency. However, this does not imply a blanket strategy regarding business operation. In offering products and services, McDonald s considered the respective cultures of its various franchisees and subsidiaries (Horovitz, 2011). The food products along with nature of service are informed by local culture. However, the echelon decision making process is global in nature (Bowersox et al, 2012). The culture ... The expanded growth capability through acquiring companies in the downstream will continue to help the organization offer more products and services. The current problem is that with various product offerings the quality and safety guidelines may have been overlooked. The product recalls have been a result of poor quality management and errors in the manufacturing process. The key benefits of backward vertical integration are: more control over the manufacturing of J J products, advanced technology, and more trusted industry experience. Use examples and research studies from Book 1, Chapter 2 to show why this theory is important in evolutionary psychology. Evolutionary psychology is a specialist field within the spectrum of psychological enquiry, which seeks to examine and understand some of the predominant reasoning behind the concept of why the human species, whilst biologically similar to other species on the planet, is so very distinct in terms of intelligence and mental progression; demonstrated by the multifaceted and complex social structures we have created. An example would be the assumption that because someone is sleeping, they are tired. Counter deception involves an individual separating the overt actions of another from what their actual motivation for behaving in that particular way is. This could be seen in the form of reverse psychology . Recognition of intervening variables understands how certain events and situations can cause particular reactions and responses from others. An example of this would be a fight situation, where the attacked party could well feel afraid, and as a result run away. The final variation of mind reading is that of experience projection; which allows individuals to apply their personal experiences onto other people. For example, someone who broke their leg and experienced the pain, would be able to empathise with another individual who they saw break their leg. In 1988, Premack carried out a research study which would appear to support the notion of the theory of mind . In his study, which was centred on an adult chimpanzee called Sarah; he exposed her to videotapes of an actor with a problem, namely an inability to reach some bananas that were placed out of reach overhead. He then proceeded to show Sarah a number of photographed solutions to the problem, only one of which actually evidenced a successful solution to the problem, (in this situation, it was stepping on a ... A prime example is Document 6, where an African American valedictorian questions the possibilities of him getting a job among white people. He is a well educated young adult, but with no jobs available to him, he must enter servitude.
