Writing Strategies to Consider
First Person vs. Third Person Narratives are a mode of writing in which writers often use first person
perspective
( I saw , I did ). Check with your instructor to determine whether you can use I when telling your
story.
*Verb Tense: Reporting vs. Reflecting The events of most narratives are told in past tense: As I hiked,
I felt the warm sun on my back. Use present tense when reflecting on the events: Now I know how
unprepared I was . Notice the change in tense in this sentence as the writer reflects on the past event,

Corporate Espionage
The growing corporate espionage activities due to intense competition lead to highly controlling
security measures and intensive employee monitoring which bring about distrust in the workplace
Part I .What I already know The reason I chose this topic is due to the fact that a class called human
resources management which by the way is my major, once we discussed the topic of ethics the
professor covered corporate espionage and determined it as a federal crime. Professor Valdivieso felt
very passionately about this topic because his thesis was based on this area. He is a professional who I
admire very much, and I was looking forward to developing a research paper on this topic. Day by day
the news portrays crimes like assault, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She also compares case studies which basically portray the fact that empowering your employees and
having a clear framework of values in the company, makes them feel important and needed and can
contribute as a countermeasure to control corporate espionage.
Some action that can be taken according to the book depends on the threat you re facing and believe it
or not the difference between regular spies and corporate spies is very small so the same so the means
to control it are alike.
There are four countermeasures that are commonly used by industrial spies: technical, operational,
physical and personnel security, these will later on be discussed in depth due to the harm that can be
caused to a company by a lack of security not only financially speaking but also the workplace
environment distrust that can only be corrected by reorganizing employees. This will represent time
and money wasted.
Clearly Dr. Marjorie Chang believe corporate espionage is everywhere today and should be
considered as a potential threat especially in big corporation when the competition rises daily and
technological access is just a click away. The question is how do we draw the line between excessive
monitoring and preventative actions to diminish distrust? In my next source one of my concerns form
part II is met, showing the most vulnerable parts in a company

Goldratt s The Goal
When goals are established there are a set of rules put in place to meet a certain criteria. Depending on
the severity of the goal, one could establish policies that go against the system. In the novel The Goal
by Eliyahu Goldratt, Alex does just that. Alex the main character of the novel is put in between a rock
and a hard place. There are only two ways out, which are to either quit or to fix the problems in a span
of 6 months. There are numerous ways and processes that are implemented for the factory to get out of
the slump, but being that this is from a managers perspective I have gained knowledge on three major
ideas that will definitely impact my managerial thinking for the rest of my life. Those are Mentorship,
Fact Finding, and Policies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can also be defined as using outside sources to gain a bigger view on things to make sure one isn t
narrow minded. In the novel The Goal Alex the plant manager finds himself in a hole which he doesn t
know how to get out of. After meetings and finding out his circumstances Alex calls an old friend
from college, Jonah. (60 62) There is little small talk as Jonah asks what the problem is and suggests a
few ideas and even terms Alex has to brush up on. When looking in from the outside you get a bigger
picture from when you are standing on the inside. Jonah being interested in the plant is actually
working on ideas to improve them and how they work, but as a scientist. Alex seeks help from Jonah,
but Jonah doesn t give all the answers or information at once. He makes Alex find out the answers
before Alex is able to call Jonah again. Mentorship just doesn t have to be from older and wiser
beings, it can be from all sorts of people. Eventually Alex seeks mentorship from his family, including
his wife and his kids into his ideas, which on the contrary Alex s kids help him. (113 119) When Alex
goes on camping trip with Davey and the boy scouts, Alex is made the scout leader due to the illness
of the boy scouts leader. Outside sources help Alex distinguish bottlenecks in the plant by establishing

Rough Draft Of A Personal Narrative Essay
Personal narrative draft When I was 3 years old, just 19 months after my sister was born, we went on a
trip to Florida. We had to wake up at about 3:00 a.m. ,because it takes us an hour to get are luggage in
the truck and to get everyone up and dressed. Our truck was a black Suburban. It took an hour and a
half to get the airport, an hour or two to get our 3 bags of luggage on the plane,to get breakfast,to get
coffee for my Mom, Dad, Nana Pat, and, Papa Daryl. Finally, we got a security check for all of us.
Then,we went to go find our gate where our plane was. Then we finally found our gate. We walked in
through the door that was open and we walked through a long tunnel like thing to get onto our plane.
When we were stepping onto our plane, I could see the path that the plane was on. There s a little
crack. A crack in between the plane and that little ramp thing that you walk on to get into the plane.
Our plane was Delta. After all of that we we re getting on the plane. We found our sets and sat in them
and buckled up we were ready for our flight. Were on a plane I was really excited about the trip, when
we took off it was going down the runway faster and faster then all of a the sudden the plane was
going up off the ground then we were in the sky floating forward. Then the plane was going fast
whenever I looked out the window everything on land and not in the air looked tiny it was an amazing
site from up above. It felt like we were flying with the birds.

Geothermal Energy Essay
Geothermal Energy
The human population is currently using up its fossil fuel supplies at staggering rates. Before long we
will be forced to turn somewhere else for energy. There are many possibilities such as hydroelectric
energy, nuclear energy, wind energy, solar energy and geothermal energy to name a few. Each one of
these choices has its pros and cons. Hydroelectric power tends to upset the ecosystems in rivers and
lakes. It affects the fish and wild life population.
Nuclear energy is a very controversial subject. Although it produces high quantities of power with
relative efficiency, it is very hard to dispose of the waste. While wind and solar power have no waste
products, they require enormous amounts of land ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The continental crust consists of igneous and sedimentary rocks. The oceanic crust consists of the
same with a substantial layer of sediments above the rock. The crust covers the outer ridged layer of
the earth called the lithosphere. The lithosphere is divided into seven main continental plates.
These continental plates are constantly moving on a viscous base. The viscosity of this base is a
function of the temperature. The study of shifting continental plates is called Plate Tectonics. Plate
Tectonics allows scientists to locate regions of geothermal heat emission. Shifting continental plates
cause weak spots or gaps between plates where geothermal heat is more likely to seep through the
crust. These gaps are called Subduction Zones. Heat emission from subduction zones can take many
forms, such as volcanoes, geysers and hot springs. When lateral plate movement induced gaps occur
between plates, collisions occur between other plates. This results in partial plate destruction. This
causes mass amounts of heat to be produced due to frictional forces and the rise of magma from the
mantle through propagating lithosphere fractures and thermal plumes sometimes resulting in
volcanism. During plate movement, continental plates are constantly being consumed and produced
changing plate boundaries. When collisions between plates occur, the crust is pushed up sometimes
forming ranges of mountains. This is the way that most

Tacitus Intentions In Agricola
Claim: (Con element) Although Tacitus defines his intentions in writing Agricola as honoring his
father in law and giving testimony to the past and present, (assertion) his purpose is actually to push
future generations away from past societal errors, (warranting element) and this is important for
readers to uncover.
Con Evidence: Tacitus clearly defined his intentions within Agricola, to honor his father in law, and to
write about the past and present. In the preface of his writing he states ... a record of our former
servitude and a testimony to our present blessings. For the time being, this book, intended to honour
Agricola, my father in law, will be commended, or at least excused, as a tribute of dutiful affection. (3)

He expresses his book s purpose clearly, and portrays his book as a way to honor not just his father in
law Agricola, but the past and present also. He wishes to bring attention to the greatness of Agricola,
and the progress of Roman society in terms of freedom. The preface alone, proves the purpose behind
Tacitus s book, as he gives tribute to Agricola and Rome. Assertion Evidence: Tacitus s book,
Agricola, was written with the intention of leading the future generations away from the faults of the
past. In the preface of his book, Tacitus writes, We should have lost our memories as well as our
voices, were it as easy to forget as to be silent. (2) Tacitus writes of forgetting the past, and in turn
furthering society from the wrongdoings of the previous generations. Assertion Explanation: Despite
his written intentions, Tacitus s purpose in writing Agricola, is clearly that he wished to inspire further
generations and guide them away from past collective flaws. The preface alone communicates the idea
of moving on from the past generations, and growing from the mistakes that took place. By writing of
the trials and errors which once occurred, Tacitus is hoping to inspire the succeeding generations to
strive for better

How Is Malvolio A Foolish Character
Often foolishness can be defined as, the lack of good judgement and sense, which is associated with
jesters or clowns usually for comedic effect. In stark contrast, in Twelfth Night reader s find that those
in position of power with stereotypically serious roles are portrayed as foolish for comedic effect,
whereas the court fools, are portrayed as intelligent. This is largely representational throughout
Malvolio, as he is a character of somewhat high class, yet he still portrays the traits of a foolish man.
He can t see the obvious discrepancies between the letters request and Oliva reactions to his
behaviour. This being said one finds that, in Shakespeare s play Twelfth Night Malvolio can be seen as
the most foolish character due to his inability to see through thinly veiled lies ... Show more content

George 02 Primarily, Malvolio is described as a very ignorant character who cannot take a joke, his
ignorance then leaves him as an easy target for other characters to insult him. In Twelfth Night, Sir
Toby, Sir Andrew, and Maria all plot a scheme that involves forging Olivia s handwriting in a letter,
making Malvolio believe that she is in love with him. His quick belief of Oliva s love towards him, is
due to his personality. Seeing as his personality essentially makes the prank work, with a change of his
character, said incident would cease to exist. Malvolio is a very serious character, who thinks of
himself more superior than others. This is evident when he says, Go, hang yourselves all! You are idle
shallow things: I am not your element: you shall know more hereafter. (Act 3 , Scene 4). This quote
effectively shows readers that Malvolio thinks that he is

Advantages and Disadvantage to being AArt Director
Michael Temple Professor Sigmon RWS 305 11 a.m. 14 October 2014 Need for Visual
Communication Art has been much more than just a hobby or a way of expressing ones feelings, it
was long before there was any proof of a verbal language; art was a key form of communication.
Artists create art to communicate ideas, thoughts, or feelings. They use a variety of methods such as
painting, sculpting, or illustration. Also an assortment of medians, including oils, watercolors, acrylics,
pastels, pencils, pen and ink, plaster, clay, and computers. Artists works may be realistic, stylized, or
abstract and may depict objects, people, nature, or events. Art today is the key form of the world
around us, from advertisement too architecture, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through my research, artist can struggle to find a job they want or find it hard to sell their art. Those
artists who do not versatile in the different media s of art, their opportunities can be limited due to
keen completion in both salary jobs and freelance work. This is mainly due to the number of qualified
workers/artist exceeding the number of available openings in the career field. As I stated earlier, there
are some requirement to becoming an art director, and fulfilling those requirements can be difficult.
You have to at least find a job and keep it competitively to sustain an income. In a Houston Chronicle
article online by Megan Torrance mentions painters like me have trouble finding work and
commissions, ...the BLS reports that the number of charitable donations has been declining in recent
years. In spite of this, interest in the occupation has remained steady and led to a larger pool of
qualified candidate... the BLS projects the market will remain competitive from 2010 to 2020
(Chron.com). The artist occupying the art and design field is increasing while the number of jobs
openings is staying at a steady rate. This is why it is important to be versatile in multimedia of art, so
that you have more opportunities at different jobs in the art field. To be an art director you pretty much
have to be versatile in the different media s and have a few different positions under your belt to
qualify for the position. Another disadvantage to be

Alligator And Crocodile Compare And Contrast
Most people believe that all Alligators and crocodiles live in the Everglades region in Florida, as it s a
really well known place for each to reside, but they don t even live next to one another in most
instances. The environment that alligators and crocodiles live in is very different from one another.
There are only 2 types of alligators the in the world, American and Chinese. American Alligators live
in freshwater areas down in the Southeastern portion of the U.S, while the Chinese Alligators reside in
eastern China. They increase plant diversity and provide habitats for other surrounding animals during
the droughts. Unlike alligators, crocodiles have 14 different species, with many on the brink of
extinction. They reside in saltwater areas, living in the tropical regions of the America s, Africa, Asia,
and Australia because they have a high sensitivity to the cold. The two creatures never live side by

Many believe they have the same exact features, which isn t exactly the case. They ve got a few slight
differences that make them different from one another. Alligators are significantly smaller than
crocodiles. The average length of an adult alligator is 13.1 feet, but are sometimes known to grow a
little over 14 feet. Adult crocodiles are usually around 14 23 feet long, depending on the species.
Crocodiles also weigh significantly more than alligators. The adult crocodile weighs around 2000
pounds, while the alligator weighs in at 800 pounds average. Their lifespans are also in very different
ranges of the other. Crocodiles live to be about anywhere between 40 to 100 years, while alligators
only live around 30 to 50 years. The lifespan also depends greatly whether they are living in captivity
or out in the wild. However, most wouldn t bother recognizing these differences because it s frankly

Gays in the Military
Gays in the Military, is it right ?
For nearly 50 years, it has been the U.S. military s official policy to exclude homosexuals from
service. In November 1992, President elect Clinton told Americans that he planned to lift the military
s long standing ban on gays and lesbians. Homosexual men and women, he said, should not be
prevented from serving their country based on their sexual orientation. Soon after taking office in
1993, Clinton faced powerful military and congressional opposition to lifting the ban. General Colin
Powell, then chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Senator Sam Nunn, who was chairman of the
Senate Armed Forces Committee between 1987 an 1994 and left Congress in 1996, announced that

Throughout the 1980s, concerns about the spread of AIDS further solidified some military leaders
opposition to allowing gay people to serve. The directive remained in place until 1994, when it was
supersede by the don t ask, don t tell policy. Between 1980 and 1990, the armed forces discharged an
average of 1,500 service members annually because of their homosexuality. Defenders of the don t
ask, don t tell policy argue that the military must do what it needs to maintain the strongest possible
fighting force. In order to carry out that obligation, they say, military leaders must have the authority
and discretion to set rules as they see fit to keep up morale and maintain order. On the issue of gay
people s service, they say, if military commanders maintain that allowing gays and lesbians to serve
openly would be detrimental to morale and discipline, then courts and public should respect that
decision. Defenders of the ban and of the military s current policy dispute the notion that military
personnel should be afforded the same constitutional protections as civilians. Policy supporters
maintain that the military is a unique institution with its own set of rules. Opponents of the current
policy believe that while the military may have a

Music In The Morning Poem Meaning
The poem Music in the Morning by Dorrianne Laux is about a man with a past filled with alcohol and
violence that is able to control his anger, escape his chaotic lifestyle, and find true love. Laux conveys
the message that fate brought the two characters together. Even though the man faced adversity, there
was a force that stopped him from acting violent, allowing him to overcome hardships. Through
structure, alliteration, and repeated ideas, Dorrianne Laux uses a love story to illustrate the importance
of patience and gratitude on the journey to happiness.
The structure is important because it allows the reader to further understand the poem. For example,

Comparing Two Approaches to Cognitive Psychology
Cognitive psychology is concerned with the internal processes involved in making sense of the
environment and deciding what action may be appropriate. These processes include attention,
perception, learning and reasoning, (Eysenck and Keane, 2010).There are a number of approaches
which can be used within this field, however for the purposes of the essay only two will be compared;
cognitive neuroscience and neuropsychology. The aims of cognitive neuroscientists are often similar
to those of cognitive psychologists; they are both interested in the brain and cognition, (Medin and
Ross, 1996). Nevertheless, it could be argued that there are also some fundamental differences
between the two approaches, especially in the research methods ... Show more content on

In contrast, a technique favoured by cognitive neuropsychologists is neurological case studies. These
are reports on individuals who have suffered damage to the nervous system. Researchers can observe
the behaviour of participants and interpret how this has been affected by their brain injury. However,
the conclusions that can be taken from such studies are also limited, especially when they involve a
single subject, (Payne and Wenger, 1982).
These procedures involved in cognitive neuroscience require high levels of control, therefore are
usually conducted in a laboratory setting, thus producing quantitative data that can be easily analysed,
(Eysenck and Keane, 2010). Nevertheless, the techniques vary in the precision with which they
identify the brain areas active when a task is performed (spatial resolution), and the time course of
such activation (temporal resolution). Therefore, several procedures often need to be combined to
compensate for limitations, (Sternberg and Wagner, 1999).
Despite the fact that cognitive neuropsychology can be less scientific in areas, it also deals with
dissociation and double dissociation. The existence of this can help to suggest the specific parts of the
brain that are impaired, thus supporting the understanding of

Descriptive Essay On A Baby
I used to think that dolls were nothing except perfect little pieces of glass. I didn t really care for me as
much as my mother did, but soon enough...every look, every word, every sound started to run my life.
It all started on September 11, 1962 on a sweet seemingly perfect day, there were no clouds to be seen
and I was sitting inside in my little black and gold chair that I got for my birthday. I would sit in the
chair and stare out the window waiting for my mama to get home. I sat there for at least for ten
minutes every day and then that is when mama would pull up in the driveway. I ran to the door and
stood there waiting for mama to walk through it. Mama opened the door and I ran straight towards her
and gave her the biggest hug I good.
Hi, mama! The little girl laughed
Hey baby girl, mama got you a gift! Mother smiled
What is it mama? The little girl giggled
Close your eyes Rin. Mother whispered
I could hear mama grabbing something out of her bag and her heels on the hard wood floor walking
back towards me click clack click clack .
Okay, Baby girl open your eyes! Mama Smiled
I opened my eyes and saw this cute doll that had a china face, porcelain skin, rosy cheeks, heart
shaped lips, and big brown round eyes just like mine. I smiled and gave mama a bear hug this time.
Thank you, mama! Rin laughed
Your welcome baby. Mama smiled

Reflection On Conflict
In this paper I will describe a conflict that has occurred in my life. It had a huge impact on my second
year of college and even today things still pop up from it, because I still run into each of these girls. In
this particular conflict between my old roommates we will review a course concept involving the four
phases of conflict escalation. Starting with phase one, a perceived threat to someone, followed by
defensiveness, then stonewalling, and lastly contempt. After the conflict occurs, one of the parties uses
the course concept of face saving by portraying something that is not really her true feeling. In order
to overcome this conflict, I will discuss how the parties need to mediate and learn to communicate
efficiently, as well as listen to each other more. The course concept I will use to help solve the conflict
is a facultative method with a third party intervention. I am also hoping to make a facilitating
reappraisal, where it might be possible to reframe the conflict. While discussing facilitating
reappraisal we will dig deeper into discussing third party intervention, which I believe both parties
may need.
My rationale for this particular choice of conflict is based on the horrible living experience I went
through last year. After the conflict, my roommates continued to struggle to get along and would argue
over little things, when there seemed to be something deeper. It bothered me for a long time because it
also impacted me. Our first year of living together everything went well, however it all started when
our lease came to an end so we were going to have to resign. So my roommates and I ended up
picking a different town house in the same apartment complex because it was bigger. The week before
it came time to sign Kaia had said that she wanted a room on the third floor. Beth at some point in
time had said she wanted a room with a window since the previous year she had not had one. Well, a
week went by and the last day to sign was here. However, Kaia got up that morning and went ahead
and signed because she was going to be gone all day bridesmaid shopping for her sister. When Beth
went up to sign later she was upset because she had apparently wanted the third floor with the window

it is about the relationship between Henry and son Edsel. As we know that was a rancorous
relationship at best. Rick has been worried that it would turn into a hatchet job on Henry. I gave my
business card to the CATCO production manager last fall saying I could get her in touch with an

back to the community by hiring college students to work for him. This all collapsed on him when he
had made an oversight in the construction of the book selves. Once he began the Silk Road, Ulbricht
attempted to keep it secret from his family and close friends. He would tell lies and lead a double life
in order to remain under the radar. One example of this was when he was dating a girl named Jessica.
Ulbricht agonized over the fact that he could not be more intimate with her and had to resort to deceit
to keep his secrets hidden. Over time Ulbricht would become more corrupt. Having a false sense of
security from law enforcement through the dark web caused him to become arrogant and ignorant of
the things that were happening around him. He would write in his journal It was time to bring in some

Analysis Of The Film Twilight Tattoo
The History of Arlington begins with George Washington. Custis built the Arlington House to
commemorate George Washington and his wife Martha Dandridge. The land once belonged to George
Washington Parke Custis. In 1831 Mary Randolph Custis married Robert E. Lee. A property tax on the
house caused Lee to leave Arlington. The plantation was set aside for a military cemetery thus creating
Arlington National Cemetery. William Christian was the first military official to be buried in Arlington
in 1864. That same year a man named Montgomery Meig appropriated the grounds in June 15, 1864
as a military cemetery so Lee couldn t live in the Arlington House. ... Show more content on

One show, Twilight Tattoo, is presented weekly during the summer at the White House Ellipse. The
show is free and open to the public. The Old Guard annually participates in more than 6,000
ceremonies, an average of 16 per day. Despite this arduous schedule, The Old Guard continuously
prepares for its security and infantry missions by conducting year round training, culminating in a
rigorous evaluation of unit tactical proficiency. Because of this, all soldiers are as familiar with
traditional infantry or military police duties as they are with ceremonial duties. The Tomb Guard
marches 21 steps down the black mat behind the Tomb, turns, faces east for 21 seconds, turns and
faces north for 21 seconds, then takes 21 steps down the mat and repeats the process. After the turn,
the sentinel executes a sharp shoulder arms movement to place the weapon on the shoulder closest to
the visitors to signify that the sentinel stands between the Tomb and any possible threat. Twenty one
was chosen because it symbolizes the highest military honor that can be bestowed the 21 gun

Chilean Culture
GLOBAL MULTI PRODUCTS CHILE THE CHILEAN CULTURE The Chilean culture tends to be
an individualistic society in the business environment. They are the most serious people in Latin
America. However, they are professional in their behavior in terms of politeness and indirectness.
They seem to be workaholics with their routine days of about 12 hours. Trust in the Chilean cultures
among each other, remains on the edge. It is difficult for a Chilean to trust another individual despite
their race, sex or origin. Teamwork remains a mission in process in Chile.

Ultimately, the goal of Global Multi Products Chile is to promote a corporate culture that embraces
trust and reliance between different departments. Unfortunately trust takes a long time to build and
this compensation solution can be implemented in the short term while developing the necessary trust
for the desired corporate culture.
NEED FOR ESTABLISHING COMMON GOALS AND PRODUCTIVE CORPORATE CULTURE
Problem: Global Multi Products Chile has gone through many changes and employees feel volatile
and lack trust amongst departments. This lack of trust found in the Chilean workplace is hindering
Multi Products ability to compete with large western manufacturers for important clients.
Solution: Executive managers need to communicate longer term goals and visions for the organization
through small steps and workshops in each of the different departments. Employees of similar status
might engage in after work socializing activities. This would permit the development of personal
relationships between employees in similar departments perhaps alleviating some of the distrust found
at Multi Products Chile. Another area of importance is the instruction to more senior managers
relaying to them the value of working with members in the different sales departments and what ever
other departments necessary in order to better serve

Essay Yersinia pestis
Yersinia pestis Bacteria Virulence and Symptoms
Yersinia pestis appeared fairly early in history and is still prevailing today. Humans have come in
contact with this bacterium in massive outbreaks throughout history, including the most famous Black
Death of the 14th century. From the lack of knowledge of the bacteria and its ability to infect
populations rapidly, the human race has suffered immensely. The bacterium is specialized with
specific plasmids, Yersinia outer proteins as well as other toxins that it uses to disrupt the body s
immune response. Through this, Yersinia pestis avoids harm and effectively infects the circulatory
system of its host causing three forms of the plague: Bubonic, Pneumonic and Septicemic. Each form

This rapidly deadly disease, characterized by these certain factors, enable the bacterium to eventually
lead the host into a painful death. 2
The bacteria, Yersinia pestis, is encoded with two specific plasmids that aid in the transfer and survival
of the bacteria, especially in the wild. Both of these plasmids must be present on the bacteria for full
virulence of the organism. The largest of the extrachromosomal elements, with typical strains of ~100
kb, is the Murine toxin plasmid (pFra), a capsule protein. pFra is characterized by two specific factors:
FI capsular protein antigen and YMT. The second plasmid, Pesticin plasmid named pPla after the
plasminogen activator, happens to be the smallest of the plasmids. The bacteriocin (pesticin;Pst) and
the bilanolysin and coagulase activities are found to be connected with one another and aids the
former organism of Yersinia in the invasion of the host from peripheral sites (Carniel 41). After the
bacteria is injected through a bite of the rat flea, Yersinia pestis affects the immune system similar to
the bacterial agent, Bacillis anthracis. By having a Type III secretion system, the bacteria are able to
find a means ? to target virulence factors directly at host cells . The common Yersinia encoded plasmid
molecule, pYV (or pLcr), found on the bacteria specifically aids in the injection of cytotoxic proteins
into the macrophages, preventing the

A Brief Biography of Lewis W. Hine
Lewis W. Hine an activist and post modern photographer known for the documentation of Immigrants

Alphonse Mucha Research Paper
The organic flow of the Art Nouveau movement has had profound and lasting influence on the world
of art, which isn t surprising since it was an art form for the people, instead of the wealthy. One of the
lesser known artists of this movement is Alphonse Maria Mucha, and while he has started to gain
recognition for his contributions to the Art Nouveau movement today, he was also a multi talented
artist. Some of his lesser known works are in the mediums of photography, oil paintings, and even
jewelry design. Alphonse Mucha s biggest contributions were in his Art Nouveau designs, Slav Epic
paintings and his influence on subsequent artist.

He was technically, what we would refer to today as, a graphic artist. Advertising through posters and
postcards were his forte. His favorite subject for these works tended to be young women with long
hair, so that he could better employ the use of calligraphic lines that is a distinguishing characteristic
of Art Nouveau. Often, the women wore long flowing robes that were sometimes classical in nature,
and were surrounded by floral motifs. Later, he would come to use these floral motifs to form halos
around the subject s heads, which would eventually develop into a signature of his style. The work
that was his claim to fame was his poster Gismonda for famed Parisian actress Sara Bernhardt. The
poster was nearly life size, long and rectangular in shape, and utilized his signature pastel

Rene Descartes And George Berkeley
In this paper, I will be writing about the traditional problem of mind and body. I will look at the views
of Rene Descartes and George Berkeley. I will be siding with Descartes. The mind body problem
ultimately encases the difficulty understanding how the mind and body interact, what they entail, and
how they interact and communicate. Rene Descartes believed that the mind and body are two separate
entities, as stated in Descartes s Dualism . He held the notion that while the body is in fact a part of the
physical world our minds are not. Our minds are the consciousness that recognizes its existence
through thinking and understanding. Descartes rationality behind disconnecting the mind from the
entity that is our body is essentially due to the mind not meeting the criteria to be considered a part of
the physical world. His reasoning being that physical things are extended and take up space, nor are
they conscious. The mind does not have extensions. It does not take up space, therefore it is not a part
of the physical world at all, but its dislocation from the physical world does not forfeit its existence.
Descartes uses his criteria for material and immaterial by explaining the physical properties and
attributes of the mind, or lack thereof: To be conscious is not to be of a certain shape or size or to
move in a certain way, but a quite different and indefinable property of which we are each intimately
aware when we reflect on our own minds. (Descartes, 262) We cannot

Charles Dicken s A Christmas Carol Essay
This past Wednesday, I embarked with my National Honor Society on a field trip to watch the
performance of a Christmas classic, Charles Dicken s A Christmas Carol. The performance was a
stage musical performed by the cast of the La Comedia dinner theatre. Being a strong performer in the
theatre and theatre enthusiast myself, I was excited to watch this Christmas classic come to life on
stage. As a child, I made frequent visits to La Comedia with family members, so I find myself very
familiar with this theatre. I have always found a love for the atmosphere of the theatre, the food
provided, and the performances presented on the stage. At La Comedia, they claim to provide a taste
of Broadway , which immediately sets the standards for each production. I have very high
expectations for each performance I attend and this performance of A Christmas Carol did not
disappoint. The actors of La Comedia definitely do not lack extraordinary talent, and the entire theatre
staff sticks to traditions they have developed over time, giving the entire setting a wonderful,
traditional ambiance. The La Comedia performance of A Christmas Carol did an exquisite job of
bringing this story to life while sticking to the classic tale, with the additions of great songs from the
Broadway version and the overall atmosphere and service provided for an entertaining event. When
we first drove into the La Comedia parking lot, we were politely greeted by a staff member who was
in charge of helping our

Examples Of Superego In The Cask Of Amontillado
The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe is a short story about two engrossing characters which
are Montresor and Fortunato. There are some important things in the story such as the character of
Montresor acts as an unreliable person, which develops the idea of revenge against Fortunato. Also ,
the depiction of Freud s id and ego theory portrayed with Montresor s dilemma. Edgar Allan Poe
demonstrates how the narrator and the protagonist Montresor is divided between his id , ego and

The narrator clarifies the superego as secrecy of violence as The energy of the superego is aggression (

him by granite . Montresor s choose of carnival time might symbolize his way of protection against
his actual violence, because his superego that related with society forces him to compress his id , in
which Montresor secretly portrays that while he takes Fortunato into his underground hell atmosphere
, his superego , festive atmosphere , acts as a fake stuff , like the way he acts gently in the light of
society. Afterwards , Fortunato started to understand the source of Montresor s malice slowly. At first ,
he acts like mocker by forgetting his arms that his behavior might be a sign of his exertion to stimulate
Montresor s personality for bringing the hidden detail of Montresor s disintegration of ego and

Delaying Gratification
The willingness to delay gratification has been studied widely as it predicts social outcomes such as
substance abuse or obesity. Many researchers have focused on cognitive control, which is considered
to have a major influence on the individuals abilities to delay gratification. However, in addition to
cognitive control, social trust also affects the delay of gratification since delaying gratification will
make sense only if a person is sure that the reward will actually be given. In the present study,
Michaelson and Munakata (2016) therefore, tested the influence of social trust on delaying
gratification of children by manipulating trust that is unrelated to reward expectation. The researchers
tested 34 typically developing children

Similarities Between Bend It Like Beckham
Gurinder Chadha, the director of Bend It Like Beckham and Bride and Prejudice, invisions similar
ideas in both films. This can be seen throughout both movies by the way the protagonists gets told
what to do by their mothers due to their gender. Another concept that has been used in both films is the
difference in cultures between Indians and Americans. Gurinder Chadha shows this by putting the two
cultures next to each other so we can see the differences and similarities between them.
Culture clash is when different cultures have a difference in their beliefs and their values. Most of
Gurinder Chadha s movies contain characters from different cultures that have different beliefs and
ideas. She also puts the characters in a different country so we can see their experiences of another ...

Without not knowing too much about Indian culture, Darcy wore white to the wedding, as in his
culture(American) white is worn at weddings. However, white in Indian culture is worn in funerals as
it shows peace and purity. It is very rude to wear white for a wedding in India. This scene is a great
example of culture clash as the film technique of costume is shown through the different clothes they
wear in events which causes the two cultures to clash with each other. In Bend It like Beckham, after
winning the final soccer game. The protagonist (Jesminder) is getting dressed into her clothes that she
will wear at the wedding. Her teammates that were helping her are fascinated by the colourful clothing
and the difference in styles compared to their own english culture. There is also a scene in which the
mother of Jesminder is angry at Jesminder for wearing shorts while playing football. She says I don t
want you running around half naked in front of men, huh? This shows that Indians normally wear long
clothing that covers most of their skin, while the English people wear casual clothing, either short or
long. Although the characters in both films don t like

Reaction Paper On Cholesterol
Essay 18: Cholesterol Explained
At this point in time, the word cholesterol has a decidedly negative connotation, conjuring up images
of gallstones, heart attacks, and strokes. Although excess cholesterol often plays a role in these disease
states, that is only part of the story. This article will focus on what cholesterol is and why the human
body needs a certain amount of it to function properly. Cholesterol is a small, hydrophobic molecule
composed almost entirely of carbon and hydrogen atoms. The 27 carbon atoms in cholesterol are all
derived from the molecule acetyl CoA (coenzyme A), synthesized from the breakdown of amino acids,
sugars, and fats. Acetyl CoA is often channeled into the Krebs cycle in order to harvest its chemical
energy; however, it is also used as the initial compound in many biosynthetic pathways. ... Show more

turning HMG CoA into mevalonic acid. From there, a series of enzymes converts mevalonic acid into

cholesterol synthesis occurs in the liver, mainly because the liver is also the site of bile acid
production. In adults, the liver produces enough cholesterol to meet the body s needs. Dietary

Corporate Espionage The growing corporate espionage activities due to intense competition lead to highly controlling security measures and intensive employee monitoring which bring about distrust in the workplace Part I .What I already know The reason I chose this topic is due to the fact that a class called human resources management which by the way is my major, once we discussed the topic of ethics the professor covered corporate espionage and determined it as a federal crime. Professor Valdivieso felt very passionately about this topic because his thesis was based on this area. He is a professional who I admire very much, and I was looking forward to developing a research paper on this topic. Day by day the news portrays crimes like assault, ... She also compares case studies which basically portray the fact that empowering your employees and having a clear framework of values in the company, makes them feel important and needed and can contribute as a countermeasure to control corporate espionage. Some action that can be taken according to the book depends on the threat you re facing and believe it or not the difference between regular spies and corporate spies is very small so the same so the means to control it are alike. There are four countermeasures that are commonly used by industrial spies: technical, operational, physical and personnel security, these will later on be discussed in depth due to the harm that can be caused to a company by a lack of security not only financially speaking but also the workplace environment distrust that can only be corrected by reorganizing employees. This will represent time and money wasted. Clearly Dr. Marjorie Chang believe corporate espionage is everywhere today and should be considered as a potential threat especially in big corporation when the competition rises daily and technological access is just a click away. The question is how do we draw the line between excessive monitoring and preventative actions to diminish distrust? We had to wake up at about 3:00 a.m. ,because it takes us an hour to get are luggage in the truck and to get everyone up and dressed. Our truck was a black Suburban. It took an hour and a half to get the airport, an hour or two to get our 3 bags of luggage on the plane,to get breakfast,to get coffee for my Mom, Dad, Nana Pat, and, Papa Daryl. Finally, we got a security check for all of us. Then,we went to go find our gate where our plane was. Then we finally found our gate. We walked in through the door that was open and we walked through a long tunnel like thing to get onto our plane. When we were stepping onto our plane, I could see the path that the plane was on. There s a little crack. A crack in between the plane and that little ramp thing that you walk on to get into the plane. Our plane was Delta. After all of that we we re getting on the plane. Before long we will be forced to turn somewhere else for energy. There are many possibilities such as hydroelectric energy, nuclear energy, wind energy, solar energy and geothermal energy to name a few. Each one of these choices has its pros and cons. Hydroelectric power tends to upset the ecosystems in rivers and lakes. It affects the fish and wild life population. Nuclear energy is a very controversial subject. The oceanic crust consists of the same with a substantial layer of sediments above the rock. The crust covers the outer ridged layer of the earth called the lithosphere. The lithosphere is divided into seven main continental plates. These continental plates are constantly moving on a viscous base. The viscosity of this base is a function of the temperature. The study of shifting continental plates is called Plate Tectonics. Plate Tectonics allows scientists to locate regions of geothermal heat emission. Shifting continental plates cause weak spots or gaps between plates where geothermal heat is more likely to seep through the crust. These gaps are called Subduction Zones. Heat emission from subduction zones can take many forms, such as volcanoes, geysers and hot springs. When lateral plate movement induced gaps occur between plates, collisions occur between other plates. This results in partial plate destruction. This causes mass amounts of heat to be produced due to frictional forces and the rise of magma from the mantle through propagating lithosphere fractures and thermal plumes sometimes resulting in volcanism. During plate movement, continental plates are constantly being consumed and produced changing plate boundaries. When collisions between plates occur, the crust is pushed up sometimes forming ranges of mountains. This is the way that most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He wishes to bring attention to the greatness of Agricola, and the progress of Roman society in terms of freedom. The preface alone, proves the purpose behind Tacitus s book, as he gives tribute to Agricola and Rome. Assertion Evidence: Tacitus s book, Agricola, was written with the intention of leading the future generations away from the faults of the past. In the preface of his book, Tacitus writes, We should have lost our memories as well as our voices, were it as easy to forget as to be silent. In stark contrast, in Twelfth Night reader s find that those in position of power with stereotypically serious roles are portrayed as foolish for comedic effect, whereas the court fools, are portrayed as intelligent. This is largely representational throughout Malvolio, as he is a character of somewhat high class, yet he still portrays the traits of a foolish man. His quick belief of Oliva s love towards him, is due to his personality. Seeing as his personality essentially makes the prank work, with a change of his character, said incident would cease to exist. Malvolio is a very serious character, who thinks of himself more superior than others. This is evident when he says, Go, hang yourselves all! Also an assortment of medians, including oils, watercolors, acrylics, pastels, pencils, pen and ink, plaster, clay, and computers. Those artists who do not versatile in the different media s of art, their opportunities can be limited due to keen completion in both salary jobs and freelance work. This is mainly due to the number of qualified workers/artist exceeding the number of available openings in the career field. As I stated earlier, there are some requirement to becoming an art director, and fulfilling those requirements can be difficult. You have to at least find a job and keep it competitively to sustain an income. In a Houston Chronicle article online by Megan Torrance mentions painters like me have trouble finding work and commissions, ...the BLS reports that the number of charitable donations has been declining in recent years. In spite of this, interest in the occupation has remained steady and led to a larger pool of qualified candidate... the BLS projects the market will remain competitive from 2010 to 2020 (Chron.com). The artist occupying the art and design field is increasing while the number of jobs openings is staying at a steady rate. This is why it is important to be versatile in multimedia of art, so that you have more opportunities at different jobs in the art field. To be an art director you pretty much have to be versatile in the different media s and have a few different positions under your belt to qualify for the position. Another disadvantage to be ... In November 1992, President elect Clinton told Americans that he planned to lift the military s long standing ban on gays and lesbians. Homosexual men and women, he said, should not be prevented from serving their country based on their sexual orientation. Soon after taking office in 1993, Clinton faced powerful military and congressional opposition to lifting the ban. General Colin Powell, then chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Senator Sam Nunn, who was chairman of the Senate Armed Forces Committee between 1987 an 1994 and left Congress in 1996, announced that they would seek to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the 1980s, concerns about the spread of AIDS further solidified some military leaders opposition to allowing gay people to serve. The directive remained in place until 1994, when it was supersede by the don t ask, don t tell policy. Between 1980 and 1990, the armed forces discharged an average of 1,500 service members annually because of their homosexuality. Defenders of the don t ask, don t tell policy argue that the military must do what it needs to maintain the strongest possible fighting force. In order to carry out that obligation, they say, military leaders must have the authority and discretion to set rules as they see fit to keep up morale and maintain order. On the issue of gay people s service, they say, if military commanders maintain that allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly would be detrimental to morale and discipline, then courts and public should respect that decision. Defenders of the ban and of the military s current policy dispute the notion that military personnel should be afforded the same constitutional protections as civilians. Policy supporters maintain that the military is a unique institution with its own set of rules. Opponents of the current policy believe that while the military may have a ... Music In The Morning Poem Meaning The poem Music in the Morning by Dorrianne Laux is about a man with a past filled with alcohol and violence that is able to control his anger, escape his chaotic lifestyle, and find true love. Laux conveys the message that fate brought the two characters together. Even though the man faced adversity, there was a force that stopped him from acting violent, allowing him to overcome hardships. Through structure, alliteration, and repeated ideas, Dorrianne Laux uses a love story to illustrate the importance of patience and gratitude on the journey to happiness. • 15. Comparing Two Approaches to Cognitive Psychology Cognitive psychology is concerned with the internal processes involved in making sense of the environment and deciding what action may be appropriate. These processes include attention, perception, learning and reasoning, (Eysenck and Keane, 2010).There are a number of approaches which can be used within this field, however for the purposes of the essay only two will be compared; cognitive neuroscience and neuropsychology. The aims of cognitive neuroscientists are often similar to those of cognitive psychologists; they are both interested in the brain and cognition, (Medin and Ross, 1996). Nevertheless, it could be argued that there are also some fundamental differences between the two approaches, especially in the research methods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast, a technique favoured by cognitive neuropsychologists is neurological case studies. These are reports on individuals who have suffered damage to the nervous system. Researchers can observe the behaviour of participants and interpret how this has been affected by their brain injury. However, the conclusions that can be taken from such studies are also limited, especially when they involve a single subject, (Payne and Wenger, 1982). These procedures involved in cognitive neuroscience require high levels of control, therefore are usually conducted in a laboratory setting, thus producing quantitative data that can be easily analysed, (Eysenck and Keane, 2010). Nevertheless, the techniques vary in the precision with which they identify the brain areas active when a task is performed (spatial resolution), and the time course of such activation (temporal resolution). Therefore, several procedures often need to be combined to compensate for limitations, (Sternberg and Wagner, 1999). Despite the fact that cognitive neuropsychology can be less scientific in areas, it also deals with dissociation and double dissociation. I didn t really care for me as much as my mother did, but soon enough...every look, every word, every sound started to run my life. It all started on September 11, 1962 on a sweet seemingly perfect day, there were no clouds to be seen and I was sitting inside in my little black and gold chair that I got for my birthday. I would sit in the chair and stare out the window waiting for my mama to get home. I sat there for at least for ten minutes every day and then that is when mama would pull up in the driveway. I ran to the door and stood there waiting for mama to walk through it. Mama opened the door and I ran straight towards her and gave her the biggest hug I good. Hi, mama! Mother whispered I could hear mama grabbing something out of her bag and her heels on the hard wood floor walking back towards me click clack click clack . Okay, Baby girl open your eyes! Mama Smiled I opened my eyes and saw this cute doll that had a china face, porcelain skin, rosy cheeks, heart shaped lips, and big brown round eyes just like mine. • 18. Reflection On Conflict In this paper I will describe a conflict that has occurred in my life. It had a huge impact on my second year of college and even today things still pop up from it, because I still run into each of these girls. In this particular conflict between my old roommates we will review a course concept involving the four phases of conflict escalation. Starting with phase one, a perceived threat to someone, followed by defensiveness, then stonewalling, and lastly contempt. After the conflict occurs, one of the parties uses the course concept of face saving by portraying something that is not really her true feeling. In order to overcome this conflict, I will discuss how the parties need to mediate and learn to communicate efficiently, as well as listen to each other more. The course concept I will use to help solve the conflict is a facultative method with a third party intervention. I am also hoping to make a facilitating reappraisal, where it might be possible to reframe the conflict. While discussing facilitating reappraisal we will dig deeper into discussing third party intervention, which I believe both parties may need. My rationale for this particular choice of conflict is based on the horrible living experience I went through last year. After the conflict, my roommates continued to struggle to get along and would argue over little things, when there seemed to be something deeper. It bothered me for a long time because it also impacted me. Our first year of living together everything went well, however it all started when our lease came to an end so we were going to have to resign. So my roommates and I ended up picking a different town house in the same apartment complex because it was bigger. The week before it came time to sign Kaia had said that she wanted a room on the third floor. Beth at some point in time had said she wanted a room with a window since the previous year she had not had one. Well, a week went by and the last day to sign was here. The bacterium is specialized with specific plasmids, Yersinia outer proteins as well as other toxins that it uses to disrupt the body s immune response. This rapidly deadly disease, characterized by these certain factors, enable the bacterium to eventually lead the host into a painful death. 2 The bacteria, Yersinia pestis, is encoded with two specific plasmids that aid in the transfer and survival of the bacteria, especially in the wild. Both of these plasmids must be present on the bacteria for full virulence of the organism. The largest of the extrachromosomal elements, with typical strains of ~100 kb, is the Murine toxin plasmid (pFra), a capsule protein. pFra is characterized by two specific factors: FI capsular protein antigen and YMT. The second plasmid, Pesticin plasmid named pPla after the plasminogen activator, happens to be the smallest of the plasmids. The bacteriocin (pesticin;Pst) and the bilanolysin and coagulase activities are found to be connected with one another and aids the former organism of Yersinia in the invasion of the host from peripheral sites (Carniel 41). After the bacteria is injected through a bite of the rat flea, Yersinia pestis affects the immune system similar to the bacterial agent, Bacillis anthracis. • 28. Rene Descartes And George Berkeley In this paper, I will be writing about the traditional problem of mind and body. I will look at the views of Rene Descartes and George Berkeley. I will be siding with Descartes. The mind body problem ultimately encases the difficulty understanding how the mind and body interact, what they entail, and how they interact and communicate. Rene Descartes believed that the mind and body are two separate entities, as stated in Descartes s Dualism . He held the notion that while the body is in fact a part of the physical world our minds are not. Our minds are the consciousness that recognizes its existence through thinking and understanding. Descartes rationality behind disconnecting the mind from the entity that is our body is essentially due to the mind not meeting the criteria to be considered a part of the physical world. His reasoning being that physical things are extended and take up space, nor are they conscious. The mind does not have extensions. It does not take up space, therefore it is not a part of the physical world at all, but its dislocation from the physical world does not forfeit its existence. Descartes uses his criteria for material and immaterial by explaining the physical properties and attributes of the mind, or lack thereof: To be conscious is not to be of a certain shape or size or to move in a certain way, but a quite different and indefinable property of which we are each intimately aware when we reflect on our own minds. Although excess cholesterol often plays a role in these disease states, that is only part of the story. This article will focus on what cholesterol is and why the human body needs a certain amount of it to function properly. Cholesterol is a small, hydrophobic molecule composed almost entirely of carbon and hydrogen atoms. The 27 carbon atoms in cholesterol are all derived from the molecule acetyl CoA (coenzyme A), synthesized from the breakdown of amino acids, sugars, and fats.
