When I first began this process of discernment, I was indifferent. I was not happy about writing
another term paper, but I was excited to do more research on the things that I love so much,
enough to want to do it every day for the rest of my life. When this all began I knew what I
wanted to do for a living. I have known ever since I was a toddler, and that is a doctor. I

The first career I researched was what I plan to be, an emergency medicine doctor. I knew many
of these things already, but I did learn new things as well. The skills needed to do this job are
communication, scientific and patient care skills. I feel that I have all of these skills, but they
can always be improved. The starting salary is around two hundred thousand a year. For me, this
does not really matter. I get to do what I love every day and getting paid for it is a helpful
addition. The amount of schooling required does not bother me either. I know I will be in school
for many years to come, but I am okay with that because I love to learn. The only difference is that
this time, I will be learning about things that I enjoy. The only thing that did worry me a little
was the work hours. There is really no set schedule. Sometimes I could work nights and
sometimes I could work during the day. I would also be working for many hours at a time. This
might make it hard to start a family when I want to, but if this is want I am called to do I know it

to become an emergency medicine doctor, this is what I would want to do. I have always been
