Neonatal Nursing
Neonatal nurses spend their career working with babies, those that are healthy and those that are
not. Working with newborns is guaranteed to have its challenges, especially for those particular
nurses who choose to work in the neonatal intensive care unit. The neonatal intensive care unit, or
NICU, is where the infants suffering from potentially fatal diseases/disorders are held. NICU nurses
struggle with life and death situations each and everyday, which is sure to be accompanied by
specific emotions such as moral distress. In the words of researcher Kain (2006), moral distress is
defined as uncomfortable, painful emotions that arise when institutional constraints prevent the
nurse from performing nursing tasks that are deemed necessary... Show more content on

The nurses were asked to explain what they felt their obligations were to the newborn and the
newborn s family (p. 579). According to Epstein s research, talking to the parents is one
obligation that begins a long list of many more. Nurses are forced to confront the parents of fatally
ill infants and inform them that their child is going to die. The nurse presents parents with the
decision to withdraw their child from life support and allow them to die peacefully, and sometimes
the nurse is even asked to help the parents make this life changing decision (p. 580). Once a
decision is made to withdraw life support, the nurses then have to assist the parents in timing the
withdrawal. Nurses comforted parents by assuring them that the withdrawal of life support did not
need to happen right away (Epstein, 2010, p. 581).
Just like in every other decision a person makes in life, the consequences of the decision almost
immediately follow. It is rightfully assumed that once a parent makes the decision to allow their
infant to die they would welcome support from anyone who offered. The nurses that participated in
Epstein s study shared the same opinion. Another obligation felt by the NICU nurses was being
there for the parents. Epstein (2010) explained how these nurses felt a strong obligation to stay
with the parents as their child slowly faded away. Some nurses felt the need to

A Haunted House Analysis
In Virginia Woolf s A Haunted House, images of darkness and light have numerous symbolic
meanings. Light is associated with the presence of the ghostly couple that roams the speaker s
home, but it has symbolic meanings beyond that it represents the insight and truth the speaker
gains from observing the couple. In addition, as is revealed by the last lines of the story and the
images of darkness used in the story (which provide a counterpoint to the symbolism of light), light
represents the love and happiness that comes from union. Overall, light plays a major role in the
development of one of the major themes of the story: human relationships are more valuable and
lasting than any tangible riches or treasures.
Light imagery is associated with the ghostly couple throughout much of Virginia Woolfs work. For
instance, in section 3, the speaker states that she uses the reflection of sunlight in the drawing room
window to tell if the ghosts are present. In sections 4 and 5, light seems to describe the ghostly
couple itself: But the beam of the lamp falls straight from the window...Wandering through the
house...the ghostly couple seek their joy. By linking the presence of light with the presence of the
ghost couple, Woolf uses light as an illuminating and revealing force. The light the ghosts bring
with them opens her eyes and mind to presences she would otherwise be ignorant of. Furthermore,
the light of the ghosts reveals an important truth to the speaker at the end of the story,

Case Study (Supervalu)
1.Evaluate Supervalu s new professional development program. What do you like/dislike about it?
Will it appeal to college recruits? Why or why not?
Supervalu designed a program named Professional Development Program (PDP) because Paul
Cimmerer wanted to attract high potential college graduates who want to make careers in
distribution, category management, retail, and corporate activities. The reason for the attraction is
because upper management believed that the company lacked experience workers for entry level
jobs within the core business units. The long term goal for the company is to find a talented
worker who will grow within the company. The strategic plan of obtaining this goal... Show more

Another challenge that PDP might face in the future is that there are too many risks attached to
the program. An issue is that the PDP might face a challenge from its current employees because
there is nothing in it for them. The opportunity of career development and growth are directed
towards graduates in which might upset current employees as they feel neglected. Another
challenge is that the program isolates people with a GPA of 3 or higher. There should be other
ways to seek out talent. A potential challenge that the company could run into is that the individual
invested into does not stay with the company or later down the road is not the ideal candidate for
the company. The company runs the risk of losing that trainee after investing so much into them.
Another challenge is that the program branches across a widespread that if one single entity does
not cooperate, it could jeopardize the program. An example would be the person who is doing the
coaching because if that person does not do an adequate job then the company runs the risk of
losing the

Incorporate Integrity Analysis
Incorporate Integrity
Especially in an Operating Room
Where you have the patient s life in your hands.
I am learning to guide by example.
What does it mean to me?
It has to address incorporating integrity.
For what I respect in others, I need to attribute.
I want to see myself thru God s eyes, and have no shame.
I was brought up to understand the differences between right wrong.
Before entering an OR
I justified my actions thru dishonesty and lies.
In the end, it was my own agony that made me understand, that I had to admit to defeat.
Somehow, along the way I seemed to have lost my integrity.
I was shocked to see, what has become acceptable to me.
I crossed many boundaries, and thought to myself that I didn t need any regulations.
Seeing the lack of integrity that I had, definitely brought me to me knees. ... Show more content on

The things I said I would never do, I have done
However the most upsetting lie I said, were not the ones I said to you.
They were the ones I said to myself, the ones I came to believe were true.
Until I was given forgiven.
In spite of the things I did to myself and to others
I must now incorporate into my soul, the meaning of Integrity:
Loyalty to ethical and moral principles, understanding of moral character honesty.
Integrity has to be lodged into my mind, body and soul.
This is what I must live by, working in an OR.
I thought I could live by my rules, my way
I thought to myself, that I was the princess in my own castle; however I came to realize that
I was just a poor servant taking orders from the Queen.
What a fool I was!
I will no longer choose to construct emotional or spiritual walls.
When I chose not to practice my decisions based on integrity,
I reinforced and intensified my emotional spiritual walls with my own shame and guilt.
I refused to take the blame, so I blamed others instead.
Until all that I saw;
Was my absence of integrity.
Where did it go, could it be fixed?

Using two of the four forms of control (Knights and Wilmott, 2012) as a framework, use any of
the material in Unit 2 to discuss the benefits and challenges of these methods of management. You
should also explore the implications these managerial issues provoke in relation to your practice as
a manager or as an employee.
In answering this question you are expected to use relevant theories, models and ideas from Unit 2
as well as the stipulated forms of control framework, and pay particular attention to assembling both
a coherent and critical argument.

This, along with the presence of the Carlson Family in the organization, helps to ensure that the
corporate culture stays strong and provides broad direction to the business. The culture also plays
an important in helping the company define itself to its employees.
However, outside of the senior management team an all encompassing belief in the culture is less
pervasive, and use of the culture as a management tool is less effective. An employee s
understanding of the company culture is impact by the employee s national cultures and the
location of business unit. Outside of the United States, particular in my experience in Asia, when
the company s credo is translated into local languages, like Chinese and Thai, the words often do
not carry the same meaning. Even with transliterate the credo is not easily understood. This was
recognized by Halsall in 2008 who noted that national cultures may share different common values
creating a challenge for standardized management practices. We also seen that whilst many
employees appreciate the credo their motivation is driven by other needs, such as the security that
the wage brings, and the impact that the financial rewards can bring to their families. In these
instances the level of the financial reward far out weights the importance of company culture or
working environment.

My Favorite Vacation
This time last year, I went to the Cape Coral Coconut Festival, A festival held yearly in the large
lot next to Sun Splash Family Waterpark, a local s hotspot every summer with guaranteed long
lines and a densely packed lazy river. Everyone in my family was thrilled, my little brother and
sister bouncing up and down on the seats of our familyminivan, while my mom attempted to drive
to the festival, amidst ear piercing shrieks, constantly reminding them to calm down. I too was
excited, peering up at the brightly colored lights that stretched all the way to the sky. As we
pulled into the lot, the rides seemed to loom above, the thought of riding them put a knot in my
throat and made my stomach do backflips. We all burst out of the car, walking hand in hand, my
little brother (5), my little sister (3), my Mom, my Dad, my grandma, and I. We all rode a few
rides to satisfy the little ones, the ladybug ride, and then the merry go round. Shortly after, we
passed by a large ride, where flashing lights and pounding music assaulted my senses. It was so
much to take in, I figured out the ride was cars connected in a ring on a track that first jolted
riders forward before having them disappear in a tube and having them reappear on the other
side. Once the ride finally slowed down and then lurched to a stop, the DJ taunted as the cars began
to fly in reverse. It all looked very menacing. Do you want to ride that? It was my favorite when I

poker and locks her in their apartment because afraid that she will run away since she is so

Esperanza s grandmother in the sense that neither lived the lives they truly wanted. Instead, they

them from being themselves as well as their intelligence and creativity. Esperanza is not like the

History of the Telegraph Essay
The electric telegraph is a now outdated communication system that was used to transmit electric
signals over wires from location to location that translated into a message by people at stations.
The non electric telegraph was invented by Claude Chappe in 1794. This system was visual and
used a semaphore, an alphabet based on flag language, and depended on a line of sight for
communication. This optical telegraph was replaced by the electric telegraph, eventually.
In 1809, a crude telegraph was invented in Bavaria by Samuel Soemmering. He used 35 wires
with gold electrodes in water and at the receiving end 2000 feet the message was read by the
amount of gas caused by electrolysis. In 1828, the first telegraph in the USA. was ... Show more

However, it was Samuel Morse that would go down in history for bettering Joseph Henry s
invention. Samuel made sketches of a magnetized magnet based on Henry s work. He then went on
to invent a telegraph system that was a practical and commercial success.
Samuel Morse
While he was a professor of arts and design at the New York University in 1835, Samuel Morse
proved that signals could be transmitted by wire. He used impulses of electrical current to deflect
an electromagnet, which moved a marker to produce written codes on a strip of paper thus the
invention of Morse Code. The following year, the device was modified to emboss the paper with
dots and dashes. Samuel gave a public demonstration in 1838, but it was not until five years later
that the Congress funded $30,000 to construct an experimental telegraph line from Washington to
Baltimore, a distance of 40 miles.
Six years later, members of Congress witnessed the sending and receiving of messages over part of
the telegraph line. Before the line had reached Baltimore, the Whig party held its national
convention there, and on May 1, 1844, nominated Henry Clay. This news was hand carried to
Annapolis Junction (between Washington and Baltimore) where Samuel s partner, Alfred Vail,
wired it to the Capitol. This was the first news dispatched by electric telegraph.
Samuel Morse is best known as the inventor of the

This project is focusing on financial management in the international business, discussing three sets

For example Japan relates on debt ratio them more U.S. firms. One of the explanations for different
financial structures is a different tax regime. For example, if interest income were taxes at higher
rate, a preference for debt financing over equity financing would be expected. However, according
to the empirical research, country differences in financial structure do not seem related to any
systematic to country difference in tax structure. Another explanation is that these country
differences may reflect cultural norms, cultural influences not yet been explained.
Principle behind global money management is that that firms must use the firm s cash recourses in
the most efficient way and work on minimization cash balances and reducing transactional costs.
Firms must hold certain cash balances that will cover payments of accounts payables and expected
demand on cash. The rest of the cash assets are usually reinvested on in money markets accounts
and firms earn interest on them. However, firms must have flexible accounts so it can withdraw all
cash freely. Such accounts usually have low interest rates and if it doesn t, firm can suffers from
financial penalties. That is the dilemma many firms are facing and that is why firms are minimizing
cash balances, so it can earn interest in high rated market account.
Another way to reduce costs of doing business internationally is to reduce transaction costs.
Transaction cost is the cost of exchange, it is

Essay on Jeremy Bentham Influence on Future
Essay on Jeremy Bentham s influence
Jeremy Bentham was born in 1748 in London, England. He was a utilitarianist, which is the idea
that the right judgment is the judgment that brings the most happiness. Also an Atheist, Bentham
was seen as the person who popularized utilitarianism. Bentham believed we could quantify or
measure pleasure. He helped found the London College, in which his body was embalmed and
used as a reminder of himself, and wrote many books on utilitarianism and found the best way to
influence a decision was through pamphleteering. He died in 1832 in England. Even though he
died, Jeremy Bentham left a legacy behind him. His ideas are still relevant many years after his
death. Jeremy Bentham s ideas changed the political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also believed, No power of government ought to be employed in the endeavor to establish any
system or article of belief on the subject of religion. (Duignan, 200) Bentham strongly believed in
the separation of church and state and he tried to stop the government to be too Christian related.
Bentham revolutionized prisons and made them both more affective and hospitable. Bentham
designed a type of prison watch tower called the panopticon. The panopticon design allowed
observers in an institution to keep an eye on the inmates without the inmates knowing. (Warburton,
124) The English parliament promised to construct the panopticon, but they didn t. Despite this
fact, other prisons around the world used his design like the Kilmainham Gaul in Dublin. (Jeremy
Bentham life, Paragraph 11) By not having the inmates know if they were being watched or not,
it would make the inmates behave better. If the inmates behaved better, then the prison would be
more effective in enforcing proper behavior. Jeremy Bentham believed, All punishment in itself is
evil, and it should only be used to diminish greater evil. (Living philosophy, paragraph 3) He
attacked criminal laws viciously due to his belief that the prisons were too harsh. Bentham had a
campaign for penal reform, which included making prisons more hospitable. (Strangroom, 95).
Bentham recognized that prisons were necessary and decided to make them as less harsh as
possible so they do not inflict pain. He again

Causes and Consequences of Operation Barbarossa Essay
Causes and Consequences of Operation Barbarossa
On June 22nd 1941, German forces crossed the Russian frontier and began to fight their way into
Soviet territory. Operation Barbarossa, Hitler s codename for the attack on Russia, had begun. In
this essay I am going to describe the causes, events and consequences of Operation Barbarossa.
What happened when the unbeatable Hitler and Germany met the sheer determination and
patriotism of Stalin and the USSR?
There were many reasons that contributed to Hitler s invasion of the USSR.
Hitler had always harboured a hatred for the Slavs, he thought they were inferior, impure people

They had signed the Anti Comintern Pact in 1936 with Japan, a treaty that specifically opposed
communism, and therefore Stalin s Russia. This showed Hitler was clearly opposed to Stalin and
his principles, which is why entire world was shocked when news of the Nazi Soviet Pact
reached them. In 1939 Hitler and Stalin signed an agreement that meant they formed a temporary
alliance. This non aggression pact could not last; the leaders simply aimed to protect themselves
from attack. Hitler and Stalin were complete political opposites; at one end of the scale was
Communism, and at the other end was Fascism. Hitler and Stalin represented the two political
extremes. It was obvious to the world that this treaty of peace would not last for long.
Western Europe had been safely conquered, except for Britain, which was so weak it would not
be able to attack for several years. As Germany was still at war with Britain when Operation
Barbarossa was beginning, it seemed to Hitler that if the Soviet Union could be defeated it would
make the British more willing to accept peace terms. The Nazi reputation would have received a
huge boost people would become even more fearful of their power.
Sure enough, on December 18th 1940, Hitler signed Directive 21, also known as Operation

Idealised love hope and mortality in The Great Gatsby ...
Elizabeth Barret Browning s Sonnets from the Portuguese and F. Scott. Fitzgerald s The Great
Gatsby both reflect, in abstract style and varying contexts and elements, the experience of idealised
love, hope and mortality. The elements employed by Barret Browning and Fitzgerald, differ in their
depictions of these themes through various literary devices, two of which are points of view and
motifs/symbols . Barret Browning s sonnetsequence illustrates a complex evolution of emotions as
the poet moves through sorrow, self doubt, passion, fear, and ultimately profound exhilaration and
joy, even in spite of the restlessly lingering thoughts of her own death, whereas, The Great Gatsby
follows the tale of young Nick Carraway, a seemingly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The death of Myrtle and the concept of mortality is represented through Nick s use of expressive
language, he states where Myrtle Wilson, her life violently extinguished, knelt in the road and
mingled her thick dark blood with the dust , this expression of life s tragic end here is
complemented by Nicks use of imagery, we are left with the raw image of Myrtle lying on the
floor in displaced agony stark message to readers that life is not perpetual and everlasting. Hope
is depicted through Gatsby s chase of the American Dream, he does not rest until this is finally
fulfilled, it never becomes truly realized and he ends up paying the ultimate price of his life for it.
Gatsby is blinded by the illusions that stand between him and happiness. Gatsby perceives Daisy to
be his happiness, but Daisy is not. Fitzgerald examines the American Dream by autopsy, through the
reflective narrator. Though the principles of the idealistic dream still exist, highlighted by Gatsby s
ambition and drive to improve himself, the morality behind the dream has been substituted by
money, resulting in decadence, corruption and distinct class divisions between people. Fitzgerald
represents the corruption and the demise of the original, idealistic American Dream with the death
of both Gatsby and Wilson two men who make a living, and strive to better themselves with new
money.

Comparing and Contrasting the Atkins and South Beach...
Comparing and Contrasting the Atkins and South Beach Diets
The Atkins and South Beach diets appear to be the same, but they do have their differences. They
both suggest that limiting carbohydrates in ones? meals is a successful way to lose weight. Each
diet also consists of a series of phases where carb intake can gradually increase. Although these
correlations between the two diets make them difficult to be distinguished, they are in fact quite
dissimilar. Whereas the Atkins diet allows consumption of all fats and hardly any carbs, the South
Beach diet permits certain carbs and does not allow just any fat product. Another difference arises
in the area of long term effects as several nutritionists fear that Atkins may eventually ... Show more

In phase three, when the dieter has increased their daily carb intake to 25 ? 50 grams and is
within 5 ? 10 pounds of his goal weight, 10 more grams of carbs are added to the diet (?The
Phases of Atkins?). When one?s ideal weight is reached, the dieter is to move on to phase four.
Phase four is the lifetime maintenance phase. Here, the dieter remains on a low carb intake and
thus remains at his ideal weight.
Along with the benefits of Atkins come concerns over potential harms. Several studies have shown
that Atkins is safe for the short term but may have long term effects on the heart due to such high
amount of fat that are consumed (?South Beach: Like Atkins?). Other critics argue that without
carbohydrates, a person loses phytochemicals which are thought to protect against cancer (?Long
Term Affects of Atkins?). Worries over nutritional deficits continue to persist; however, there have
been no long term studies to confirm such concerns.
The South Beach diet?s function is to help one shed pounds by allowing only certain carbs and
certain fats. This diet advocates only unsaturated fats, such as those found in olive oil, nuts, and
salmon, and forbids fried fats such as bacon. The diet also allows carbs which are high in fiber
like multigrain bread and wild rice (?South Beach: Like Atkins?). The foods that this diet allows
includes these healthy carbs and oily fats as neither raises blood sugar which leads to weight gain.

Google Making USupid Logos
In Is Google Making Us Stupid? (2008), Nicholas Carr maintains that the advent of the Internet
has produced a shallow generation of information customers who lack the ability to deeply
engage with and critically think about a text. To support the argument, Carr draws on personal
and historical anecdotes and one scientific study. The purpose of Carr s article is to open a
dialogue about the potentially adverse effects the Internet could have on humans cognitive
processes. Carr establishes an informal relationship with the audience, who are generally well
educated, upper middle class individuals. Because the audience is educated, they are very
capable of critically thinking. However, Carr s use of other rhetorical strategies disarms them
and detracts from the dearth of logos. His essay is rife with numerous unfounded premises, poor
evidence, and logical fallacies. Because of this lack of logos is in a way compensated by
including numerous appeals to ethos and pathos, the audience is likely to find the article
persuasive unless they re read the article deeply with a critical lens. Carr s thesis is founded on two

Table Tennis And Ping Pong
Why is table table tennis so similar to ping pong? Well they are exactly the same thing! Table
tennis/ ping pong began in the 1880s, and was later trademarked in the United states by Parker
Brothers, the board game company. Like most other sports, table tennis had humble beginnings as
a parlor game but really it was open to anyone with access to a table, paddle, and a ball. In 1922,
The Ping Pong Association was formed but got renamed to The Table Tennis
Association because
they are the same thing. Over the years table tennispopularity grew, table tennis became so popular
because In 1902 a visiting Japanese university professor took the gameback to Japan, where he
introduced it to university students. Shortly after, a British salesman, Edward Shires,
introduced it to the people of Vienna and Budapest, [ . . . ]. Due to the popularity of table tennis
and how successful it became it in 1902 the sport ended up going to Japan due to a Japanese
University professor that was visiting. He liked the game so much that when he went back to
Japan he introduced it to his university students. The sport also ended up going to Britain and
spread pretty far to the Sunderland and Plymouth. In 1922, an All England Club was formed, which
boasted such luminaries as Jack Hobbs the cricketer and other famous names of the time from the

Sloths Research Paper
Sloths are usually a grey color and some of the sloths in the wild will actually be covered with
algae, which may sound somewhat disgusting but it s used for camouflage to hide from bigger
predators that they might come across in the wild. They need to be disguised well because as
you know, sloths are pretty slow. Sloths are the slowest on the ground and in the trees. To your
amazement, sloths are excellent, fast swimmers. This is probably because they fall out of the
trees, into the water, on a daily basis. If you ever see a sloth in the wild you will most likely see the
sloth upside down. If you are getting a pet sloth you will wantto purchase a larger kennel of some
sort to house a sloth which you can expect to get up to two feet tall.... Show more content on

Some of them are blue and white, some are yellow and green. They are very small, thus the name
parakeet. Parakeet means a small parrot. Budgies are referred to as parrots because they are small
and stay the same size. They are very docile parakeets which are not loud and they do not bite as
hard as your typical macaw or cockatoo would. These are possibly the easiest birds to care for
and maintain because they are so small. You can keep them in a small bird cage versus a cage
you might pay thousands of dollars for to keep a macaw in. They don t eat as much as the larger
birds either. You will need to purchase a small bird cage for the parakeet. They will do well in
pairs as well. They will need bird seed and a cuddle bone to chew on. They will also need some
toys that they cannot cut themselves on. Birds love mirrors with different objects that hang
from them. Avoid anything in the cage that will cut them such as metal toys. You will want to
purchase a few perches for the parakeet to sit on through out the day. You will need a water and
food dish that clips to the cage. Budgies live to be about five to ten years old depending on how
healthy they are. Budgies love companionship and love to exercise as well. You can bring your
budgie outside of the cage to run around on the floor but make sure that all of your pets are

The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Juniot Diaz
In the novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Juniot Diaz you start to notice a cultural
gender role and how there is certain expectations of them. The novel is based on a young boy
named Oscar Wao and the hardships that one event has caused to an entire family. Even though the
novel is focused on Oscar the author always went back to his sister and his mother. The author
described the women as real, strong women, even though they were being filtered through a
somewhat distorted male point of view (Stevenson 1). These two women play an important roll in
this novel, they ultimately don t show the cultural genderrole and what is expected from them. All
the important femalerolls in Oscars life are independent and strong women but they all have one
thing in common, being mistreated by men. Women s history led to the historical study of
gender. Gender includes the behavior, manners, morals, speech, and emotions expected of men
and women because of their sex. Historians of gender have analyzed many characteristics of
masculine and feminine behavior in relation to social stereotypes and economic power. The
historians studies have provided a means to understand a wide range of social behavior from
attitudes about sex to economic inequality in terms of social conventions of gender (Partner 1).
This is a common factor in the novel The Brief Life of Oscar Wao by Diaz, he shows how the
Dominican culture views their women and how they aren t always respected.

The Majority Of Male Characters
The majority of male characters in Bernard Shaw s Pygmalion appear to be fundamentally
flawed in some important way. Freddy Eynsford Hill is raised as a gentleman and, thus, is a fool
who has trouble hailing a cab, let alone finding any suitable occupation for himself. Henry
Higgins is well educated but ill mannered, alienating him from society due to his inconsideration
for others. Alfred Doolittle appears to lack any sort of morals and seems equally free from fear
and conscience. The only male figure who stands out is Colonel Pickering, who seems talented,
respectful, and compassionate compared to his competition. Even so, Pickering is only
superficially a gentleman; his concern, respect, and treatment for others are overshadowed by
his lack of growth and the play s criticism of gentlemanly behavior as a whole. Pickering s true
concern and compassion for others, particularly Eliza, distinguish him from the other male
characters. His first words to Eliza are, won t you sit down? (Shaw II, 39). This courtesy, which
Higgins does not extend, rightfully suggests that he thought and felt about her as if [she] were
something better than a scullerymaid, much to Higgins chagrin (V, 122). At the same time,
Pickering is not infatuated unlike Freddy (V, 130), who laughably spends most of his nights on
Wimpole Street because it s the only place where [he s] happy (IV, 106). All Eliza wants is a little
kindness, and Pickering, who is neither inconsiderate nor

Conduct Disorder Analysis
Conduct disorder (CD): a serious behavioral and emotional disorder that can occur in children
and teens. A child with this disorder may display a pattern of disruptive and violent behavior and
have problems following rules. (Mental Health and Conduct Disorder, 2005 2015 ). While it
might be surprising, aggressive and antisocial behaviors are the leading cause of child and
adolescent referrals to mental health clinicians. As a result, this leads to a diagnosis of conduct

My View Of A New House Sat
Max
My heart thundered under my breast. I was sure my parents could hear me, asleep in their beds
inside the two story, gray siding clad house on Sunnyvale Court.
Rain puddled at my feet, soaking the dirt of a thousand walks into my off brand tennis shoes. I
usually enjoyed the rain. I liked the feel of walking barefoot in puddles in the grass and the smell
of rain mixed with pine trees. Tonight, the air was cool and the rain was crisp against my skin for
an early August in South Carolina. I would be out all night, though, so this was completely bad
timing.
With my toes pointed out to the street, I stood at the edge of the long driveway. A cool wind split
through my dark poncho. I wanted to shiver, but I steeled myself and ignored the cold.
This is it, I told myself. If you re going to leave, you need to do it now.
A new house sat half finished around the bend of Sunnyvale. I explored it yesterday while on a
walk and discovered the back door was unlocked.
My hand gripped the straps of my overloaded backpack. One night, I told myself. One night
where I m not sleeping under the same roof as my parents. I m not going to die like my mother
seems to think would happen if I did. I knew that normal people, everyone else in the world, they
weren t all murdered and raped the moment they went outside.
Thoughts of my bedroom in the house behind me flooded my mind; the soft green comforter, the
mauve pink carpet, the warmth of the cotton sheets, a quiet symphony playing from the

Regarding the issue of police and their use of drones I think the laws are okay right now but also
can be improved in multiple ways. I think the use is fair to people as long as it follows the plain

it isn t a full on search I don t think the police should not have to get a search warrant. I think that
yes there should be some type of limits on what they can and can t do. For example, Like with a

Analyzing Ranc s Vertumnus
The painting by Jean Ranc titled Vertumnus and Pomona shows an encounter of Vertumnus and
Pomona, two characters of Roman mythology. Both Vertumnus and Pomona themselves are
references to antiquity. The basket of fruit that Pomona rests her arm on is a reference to herself as
the Roman goddess of fruit. Although this paintinghas a Roman mythology basis, it also has ties to
contemporary aspects that a viewer in the 18th century could relate to. Pomona and Vertumnus are
painted in a modern garden or outdoor setting. This painting taking place outdoors is similar to
other fГЄte galantes paintings that were popular during that time in the 18th century. For example,
numerous paintings by the artist Jean Antoine Watteau showed people enjoying themselves in an

These characters from Roman mythology are depicted in outfits that were common in the 18th

are painted with rosy cheeks to make it look like they are wearing makeup which is something that
would appeal to the 18th century viewer. Vertumnus and Pomona are painted to look like the
typical upper class person in the gardens living in the 18th century instead of ethereal gods and
goddesses. All of these elements come together to create this painting that is based upon Roman

Gender Roles in Behind a Mask by Louisa May Alcott Essay
Gender Roles in Behind a Mask by Louisa May Alcott
Most people think of traditional gender roles such as those depicted in mid 1900 television
sitcoms: The father going to work every morning and the mother staying home all day cooking
dinner and cleaning the house. Gender roles are a set of social and behavioral norms that are
generally considered appropriate for either a man or a woman in a social relationship. By 2050,
women will make up 47 percent of the workforce in the United States which is up from 30 percent
in 1950. Through the use of allusion, satire, connotation, and the central metaphor of performance,
Louisa May Alcott is able to reinforce her message about nineteenth century gender roles in the

Come, the curtain is down, so I may be myself for a few hours, if actresses ever are themselves .
Jean Muir is a very mysterious woman who does not tell people of her true age, her occupation,
and her background or past. The purpose of Jean Muir being an actress is for Alcott to use that
as a metaphor for how women must act out roles in life to be able to get where they want to go
in life, such as of a higher ranking or even an occupation. Jean Muir attempts to achieve her
hidden purpose by using feminine ploys such as her beauty, charm, and seduction to mislead
men. Alcott has made Muir s hidden purpose to be receiving the Coventry family s fortune and
gaining power. Sometimes she uses coercion and lying rather than charm to have men fall in

must marry one of the men in the Coventry family and she does this by misleading them. I wish I
was thirty, but, as I not, I do my best to look and seem old . Jean Muir lied about her age to the

Parallelism In Patrick Henry s Speech To The Virginia...
The prominent patriot Patrick Henry once said, I know not what course others may take; but as
for me, give me liberty or give me death! (Henry 7) implying that a life without liberty is not a
righteous life. Henry s quote is included in his popular oratory, Speech to the Virginia Convention ,
in which he discusses with the colonists who were under the tyrannical reign of the Crown.
Throughout his speech, Henry lists all of the discrepancies the thirteen colonieshad with Great
Britain, concluding that there is no other option, but to retaliate instantaneous. In Patrick Henry s
Speech to the VirginiaConvention, he utilizes amplifying loaded words and coherent parallelism in
order to influence the assembly to unify and reciprocate.
Throughout the entirety of his speech, Henry presents amplifying loaded words to bring to
attention the predicament between the two opposing sides. Loaded words are terms of influence
by employing positive or negative connotations. For example, Henry claims in paragraph five, We
have petitioned; we have remonstrated; we have supplicated... (Henry 5). He particularly targets the
verb of the sentences by altering their meaning, to add a kick to the phrase. Rather than state, We
have asked; we have protested, we have begged, Henry offers more potent terms, such as petitioned,
remonstrated and supplicated, to emphasize how perilous the situation between the two countries
is, compelling them to take action. He continues to underline

Understanding Historical-Cultural Contexts
When people approach the Bible without any concern for the historical cultural context they don t
clearly understand what God is saying to them. This is because God spoke to a specific audience
in that time, and if individuals don t seek to understand what message God was providing the
people within that time, then they will not truly know how to apply Gods message to their lives
today. We should not be so arrogant and prideful as to think that God cared nothing about the
original audience but was merely using them to get a message to us (Duvall, ch. 5). In order to
truly grow a relationship with God, people must be willing and have a caring heart to understand
what God s message was to the people who came before us, which can help them understand how
God s messages apply to today s world and diversity of cultures.... Show more content on

Love In Romeo And Juliet
Love is a powerful thing and can be viewed in many different ways. This is expressed in the
tragedy of Romeo of Juliet written by William Shakespeare. This is the tragedy of two lovers
who struggle to find ease in their life as they are in two opposing families. In the play Romeo
and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, the major characters have very different views of love that
they use to their advantage. Lord Capulet sets Juliet up with Paris for marriage which shows that
he has trouble understanding what love is. He even told his wife that unworthy as she is, that
we have wrought so worthy a gentleman to be her bride? (3.5.149 150). Lord Capulet expresses
a lot of anger here because Juliet won t accept what he set er up with. This shows that Lord
Capulet doesn t understand true love and that it is just about social status and looks. He is so
fed up with Juliet that he even insults her saying that she should hang thee, young baggage,
disobedient wretch (3.5.166). He is continually angry that Juliet can t accept her fate that is
being with Paris as her husband. He may not know about Romeo and Juliet being together but he
still doesn t give her a choice. Lord Capulet s finite view of how love works are not right and he
uses it as a tool to build the family that he wants. Kersten 2 Romeo s view of love in the story is
very different from what Lord Capulet thinks of it. In the beginning of the book, he asks himself Is
love a tender thing? It is too rough, too rude, too

Tuck Everlasting Essay
Have you ever wondered why books seem to always be better than movies based on that book?
Well I am here to tell you why. The example I will focus on is Natalie Babbitt s Tuck Everlasting
vs Disney s interpretation of Tuck Everlasting. I prefer Natalie Babbitt s Tuck Everlasting over
Disney s Tuck Everlasting because of the imagery, the suspense, and the characterization.
One example of the imagery being better in the book is the forest. In the book the forest sounds
big and beautiful. But, in the movie the forest is quite overgrown and there was not as much
wildlife as I expected. Even though the forest wasn t as beautiful as the book portrayed it, it is still
quite an amazing sight. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the book Winnie s parents were less interested in finding their daughter than in the movie. I
liked this because it made Winnie have another reason to run away. Also, in the book the parents
were quicker to give up the spring to the man in the yellow suit. Another example of why the
book has better characterization than the movie is Winnie. Winnie was five years younger in
the book which gave her time to mature and grow throughout the book. As opposed to in the
movie where Winnie was 15 and she did not have as much room to mature and grow. Another
aspect of Winnie that was better in the book was her relationship with Jesse. In the book there
wasn t as much romance between Winnie and Jesse which I liked because honestly, in the
movie, I thought their relationship was an unnecessary side note. The final reason that the
characterization was better in the book was the Tucks. In the movie, all the Tuck s opinions
were generalized and we didn t get to hear each Tuck s opinion as much as in the book. An
example of this is Miles s and Jesse s views on immortality, in the movie we didn t get to hear their
differing opinions on immortality as opposed to the book where we herd both their opinions.
As you can see Natalie Babbitt s book Tuck Everlasting is much better than Disney s rendition of
Tuck Everlasting for three key points. These points were the imagery, the suspense and the
characterization. You might

The Issue Of Same Sex Marriage
There are many important ethical disputes that have been in the forefront of American politics
within this last year. Same sex marriage is a debatable topic that attracts many responses from
those supporting and those opposing the issue. People who dispute gay marriage believe it is
morally wrong, while gay rights activists believe that all marriages be treated equally. This dispute
is put into several different lights including morals, family values and religion; and those of
equality, constitutionality.
Section 1: The first major law that affected same sex marriage was the Defense of Marriage Act
(DOMA). It was approved by Congress and signed into law by President Bill Clinton on
September 21, 1996. DOMA defined that marriage was between a man and a woman at the
federal level. It also gave states the right to reject recognition of same sex marriages from other
states. DOMA mandates unequal treatment of legally married same sex couples, selectively
depriving them of the 1,138+ protections and responsibilities that marriage triggers at the federal
level. (Freedom to Marry) At the time DOMA was passed, no states permitted gays and lesbians
to marry. On June 26, 2013, in Windsor v. United States, Justice Anthony Kennedy, speaking for
the 5 4 majority, said DOMA was unconstitutional because it violated the right to liberty and to
equal protection for gay couples. (Savage) When the ruling was declared, twelve states and the

Rhetorical Devices In The Crucible And The Scarlet Letter
It is no doubt that even before our time, rhetorical devices were being used in all genres of writing
style. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller and The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, there is an
immense amount of rhetorical devices being used. These literary works of writing are both set in
the early day Massachusettscolony. There are many similarities and differences, rhetorically
speaking. Despite the fact that there is a similar use of rhetorical devices there are many
differences. Likewise, this play and novel use plenty of rhetorical devices, such as simile and
pathos. In the Scarlet Letterand The Crucible both authors use pathos; a quality that brings about
pity or sadness. The chief tragic event of old man s life...which lived and died twenty or forty
years ago. (Hawthorne, pg. 31). Just as such The Crucible also uses this quality when Giles
Corey, who after being seen as a villainous character comes to truth and because of that is
executed by being pressed to death. Miller and Hawthorne use pathos in similar ways dealing
with death so readers may feel sentiment for the characters. Another rhetorical device used by
both authors is Ellipsis. Hawthorne and Miller use this device where they show where words
have been left out. (Dictionary.com). In Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, he writes, The father
of the custom house the patriarch (Hawthorne, pg.26). Hawthorne uses this device to convey to
readers more than one idea. Similar to this, in Miller s The Crucible, he also writes, She is
transfixed with all the girls, in complete silence, she is open mouthed (Miller, pg.46). The
Authors use this device to show the importance and offer the reader more thinking. Another
common rhetorical device between these two pieces is Anaphora; the repetition of a word or
phrase at the beginning of a successive clause. Miller uses this device in The Crucible to not
only exemplify for readers the importance of the dialogue but also the emotion of the characters. I
want to open myself! I want the light of God, I want the sweet love of Jesus! (Miller, Pg. 15). In
similar effect Hawthorne also uses this device to exemplify and show the true emotions of
characters. with the scarlet token of infamy on her

There is a reason why blacks are quicker to be arrested then whites, or why white neighborhoods
look nicer then black neighborhoods, or why blacks are accused of crimes more than whites.
Most people will think it is the way of the world. Racial discrimination will always exist in
America. It doesn t need to be this way. Our government does not care enough about the black
people and it clearly shown. There should be a law against police just arresting blacks for no
reason. They should have their neighborhoods fixed up too. It shouldn t be legal to just be able
to accuse a black person of a crime because he happened to be standing there. There are so many
more examples of this and it just shows how are government thinks impartially too and doesn t
believe the black people are important or worth their time. Richard Hughes was very bothered by
this and he did a study with his students to show them how blacks are treated unfairly. They
analyzed crimes and arrests of black people in the past few months. The looked at how much less
money the government puts into black housing then whites. The sources include historical and
recent statistics on race, wealth, and housing; a 1937 photograph by Margaret Bourke White
juxtaposing African Americanflood victims and a billboard proclaiming, There s No Way Like the
American Way (Hughes139). The students after doing this all got the point and all felt the same
way as the teacher. a broader sense of racial discrimination, one student wrote, Even after their
emancipation after the Civil War, African Americans have faced many forces preventing them from
living the „American Dream‟ (139). He felt the importance of his students going into the
world after school, understanding this and maybe trying to get the government to handle this issue.

Human Impact on the Carbon, Nitrogen, and Phosphorus Cycles
Danielle Abbadusky
Everest University
Human impact on the cycling matter in ecosystems can change a lot of things. Humans can either
help or hurt things. The carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus cycles are the three cycles of matter in
ecosystems. What are these cycles? How do humans effect each one of these individual cycles?
What are some examples of humans effecting these cycles? What is the carbon cycle? Sequence of
processes through which carbon compounds move from one carbon reservoir or sink (such as
forests and oceans) to another (such as atmosphere) and back. Since more carbon dioxide is being

These compounds are taken up by plants as nutrients from the soil and converted into plant proteins
(amino acids). Plant proteins become animal proteins when eaten and metabolized by herbivorous
animals, and when carnivorous animals eat the herbivorous. These proteins return to the soil
through animal excrement and the decomposition of dead animals and plants, and are converted
into carbon dioxide, water, and ammonia (gaseous compound of nitrogen and hydrogen) by a set of
bacteria in the soil. A portion of this ammonia is converted into soil nitrogen (fixed nitrogen) by
another set of bacteria and the balance is released into the atmosphere as free nitrogen (N2).
(nitrogen cycle, n.d.) Human impact on this cycle is very significant. Farmers plant crops such
as; peas, beans, and alfalfa. These crops pull nitrogen from the air which helps raise the rate of
nitrogen fixation on the land. Farmers also plant corn and wheat which are sprayed with nitrogen
derived from industrial fixation. All of these crops help humans to survive. Having these crops
benefiting humans we are more than doubling the amount of nitrogen that s moved from the
atmosphere to the land. When sulfur is released by burning fossil fuels, which humans do, this is
killing and polluting our lakes and ponds and killing our forests. With these and other chemicals
being put into our land, these are reaching our oceans and big areas of water and this will

The Center for Health Care Services (CHCS) operates a wide range of psychosocial and medical
programs in Bexar County whose target populations include individuals with behavioral health
disorders and intellectual disabilities. (The center for health care services, http://chcsbc.org/board

The Construction Of A Log Home
The construction of a log home is very different from conventional construction, even if people
have built a home in the past. Planning and research is key in a large project like this. The
carpenter should prepare for the task in all possible ways. In order for people to build a home that
meets their needs, they needto take into consideration the following steps and instructions (Building
Guide Step by Step Log Home). First, the person building the housemust be emotionally and
financially prepared. They can start by putting a down payment down, or finding out if they
need to apply for a loan. According to Ed Conarchy, a loan originator for Cherry Creek Mortgage
Company, when building a house, the most important thing to consider is the mortgage, so
people need to handle that situation right away. They can talk to mortgage professionals to get
advice. People must also find out if there are any fees needed to be paid for such as maintenance,
repair, or mortgage related fees. The carpenter should have his or her employment situation
properly handled as well. This means they should feel secure about their job. When building,
people should be prepared to stay in one place for a long period of time too. People must realize
timing and readiness are the crucial components to examine (5 Signs You re Ready/ Bankrate.com)
After the decision to build a house is made, people can decide on the type of log they want to

Archetypes In King Arthur And Odysseus
Archetypes have persisted in literary works through the sands of time and continue to be applied in
today s literature. Throughout traditional and modern literature, the formulaic structure of myths
and the use of archetypes has been utilized in a consistent manner. Although many would argue that
the universal application of archetypes has been erratic and intermittent through time, the
implementation of the major hero and mentor archetypes within the tale of King Arthur and The
Odyssey, and the refined utilization of archetypes in modern literature, exhibit the universality of
archetypes in different cultures and time periods.
The hero archetype in both the tale of King Arthur and The Odyssey exemplifies its omnitude in
British and Greek culture respectively. Although each hero delineates his own culture s values
during different times, it is evident that both share similar qualities and traits pertaining to the hero
archetype. In Homer s The Odyssey, Odysseusis representative of the Greek values of rule through
Gods and Goddesses. In contrast, King Arthur represents British values of rule without the
significant influence of supernatural beings. Granted that each story contains nearly opposite
values, the hero archetype is still able to resonate in both characters. One of the main heroic aspects
portrayed by each character is their dynamic personalities. Both King Arthur and Odysseus are
distinguished as vigorous, audacious, and most importantly wise in each of their

Making A Battery Operated Toy Car
On one such routine day, I ran towards the phone and to my satisfaction he was Vineet who said,
Thank you for sending me a car. I was so happy then since my efforts paid off, but there remained
a feeling of guilt. A few weeks back, my friends decided to give a gift to Vineet since he was
recovering from nephrotic syndrome and asked me for a contribution. I said, I would rather buy
skates for myself . Few days later, we visited him and he was looking helpless and weak on his
bed. But, on seeing us he was so surprised and delighted when he received the gift. He thanked
everyone and said, Thank you for an amazing toy car . I said with a guilt, Sorry, but I ve made
no contribution for your gift . With intention to do something special for him and the fact that
my friend s family was moving to another city, I put my efforts in making a battery operated toy
car by myself. By the time toy car was ready, my friend had left for the city. I had an easy choice
to ask my father to buy something for Vineet but instead I chose a harder way because it was my
mistake and only I could have fixed it. I then sent the toy car via courier. Later he called me up
and said those above words. But the guilt in me ever remained that I did not see him smile.

October 1988 Revised March 2000
DM74LS47 BCD to 7 Segment Decoder/Driver with Open Collector Outputs
General Description
The DM74LS47 accepts four lines of BCD (8421) input data, generates their complements internally
and decodes the data with seven AND/OR gates having open collector outputs to drive indicator
segments directly. Each segment output is guaranteed to sink 24 mA in the ON (LOW) state and
withstand 15V in the OFF (HIGH) state with a maximum leakage current of 250 ВµA. Auxiliary
inputs provided blanking, lamp test and cascadable zero suppression functions.

The internal NAND gate that generates the RBO signal has a resistive pull up, as opposed to a
totem pole, and thus BI/ RBO can be forced LOW by external means, using wiredcollector logic.
A LOW signal thus applied to BI/RBO turns off all segment outputs. This blanking feature can be
used to control display intensity by varying the duty cycle of the blanking signal. A LOW signal
applied to LT turns on all segment outputs, provided that BI/RBO is not forced LOW.

players make little money not expecting to get hurt. Not only is it tough for the players but the
family. Wives are now expected to take car of the family. The head injuries can be from depression

The beginning of it all, NorthWest Mounted Police was created in 1873. Canada didn t really need

So they just went with Northwest Mounted police, after they decided on the name it was changed

Essay Compare And Contrast Jamestown And John Smith
Two men came to America with a organization of people on a ship to set up their own colony.
Both of them had a goal and a reason for coming to the new world. When both of them came to
set up a colony they had high hopes. They soon realized it would be a struggle to survive and had
to endure a lot when they decided to come to the new world. They were not exactly the same
though and had some differences and came to the new world for contrasting reasons. Jamestown
was settled by the Virginia Company and Captain John Smith, who was the leader and was one of
the reasons why Jamestown was able to endure and withstand in such difficult circumstances. In
Smith s narrative but nothing so difficult as to establish a commonwealth so far remote from men
and means, and where men s minds are so untoward as neither do well themselves, nor suffer others

Jamestown and made it difficult to be able to survive.Another concept in his account of what

  • 2. Neonatal Nursing Neonatal nurses spend their career working with babies, those that are healthy and those that are not. Working with newborns is guaranteed to have its challenges, especially for those particular nurses who choose to work in the neonatal intensive care unit. The neonatal intensive care unit, or NICU, is where the infants suffering from potentially fatal diseases/disorders are held. NICU nurses struggle with life and death situations each and everyday, which is sure to be accompanied by specific emotions such as moral distress. In the words of researcher Kain (2006), moral distress is defined as uncomfortable, painful emotions that arise when institutional constraints prevent the nurse from performing nursing tasks that are deemed necessary... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The nurses were asked to explain what they felt their obligations were to the newborn and the newborn s family (p. 579). According to Epstein s research, talking to the parents is one obligation that begins a long list of many more. Nurses are forced to confront the parents of fatally ill infants and inform them that their child is going to die. The nurse presents parents with the decision to withdraw their child from life support and allow them to die peacefully, and sometimes the nurse is even asked to help the parents make this life changing decision (p. 580). Once a decision is made to withdraw life support, the nurses then have to assist the parents in timing the withdrawal. Nurses comforted parents by assuring them that the withdrawal of life support did not need to happen right away (Epstein, 2010, p. 581). Just like in every other decision a person makes in life, the consequences of the decision almost immediately follow. It is rightfully assumed that once a parent makes the decision to allow their infant to die they would welcome support from anyone who offered. The nurses that participated in Epstein s study shared the same opinion. Another obligation felt by the NICU nurses was being there for the parents. Epstein (2010) explained how these nurses felt a strong obligation to stay with the parents as their child slowly faded away. Some nurses felt the need to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Haunted House Analysis In Virginia Woolf s A Haunted House, images of darkness and light have numerous symbolic meanings. Light is associated with the presence of the ghostly couple that roams the speaker s home, but it has symbolic meanings beyond that it represents the insight and truth the speaker gains from observing the couple. In addition, as is revealed by the last lines of the story and the images of darkness used in the story (which provide a counterpoint to the symbolism of light), light represents the love and happiness that comes from union. Overall, light plays a major role in the development of one of the major themes of the story: human relationships are more valuable and lasting than any tangible riches or treasures. Light imagery is associated with the ghostly couple throughout much of Virginia Woolfs work. For instance, in section 3, the speaker states that she uses the reflection of sunlight in the drawing room window to tell if the ghosts are present. In sections 4 and 5, light seems to describe the ghostly couple itself: But the beam of the lamp falls straight from the window...Wandering through the house...the ghostly couple seek their joy. By linking the presence of light with the presence of the ghost couple, Woolf uses light as an illuminating and revealing force. The light the ghosts bring with them opens her eyes and mind to presences she would otherwise be ignorant of. Furthermore, the light of the ghosts reveals an important truth to the speaker at the end of the story, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Case Study Of Supervalu Justin Powell November 29, 2016 Case Study (Supervalu) 1.Evaluate Supervalu s new professional development program. What do you like/dislike about it? Will it appeal to college recruits? Why or why not? Supervalu designed a program named Professional Development Program (PDP) because Paul Cimmerer wanted to attract high potential college graduates who want to make careers in distribution, category management, retail, and corporate activities. The reason for the attraction is because upper management believed that the company lacked experience workers for entry level jobs within the core business units. The long term goal for the company is to find a talented worker who will grow within the company. The strategic plan of obtaining this goal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another challenge that PDP might face in the future is that there are too many risks attached to the program. An issue is that the PDP might face a challenge from its current employees because there is nothing in it for them. The opportunity of career development and growth are directed towards graduates in which might upset current employees as they feel neglected. Another challenge is that the program isolates people with a GPA of 3 or higher. There should be other ways to seek out talent. A potential challenge that the company could run into is that the individual invested into does not stay with the company or later down the road is not the ideal candidate for the company. The company runs the risk of losing that trainee after investing so much into them. Another challenge is that the program branches across a widespread that if one single entity does not cooperate, it could jeopardize the program. An example would be the person who is doing the coaching because if that person does not do an adequate job then the company runs the risk of losing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Incorporate Integrity Analysis Incorporate Integrity Especially in an Operating Room Where you have the patient s life in your hands. I am learning to guide by example. What does it mean to me? It has to address incorporating integrity. For what I respect in others, I need to attribute. I want to see myself thru God s eyes, and have no shame. I was brought up to understand the differences between right wrong. Before entering an OR I justified my actions thru dishonesty and lies. In the end, it was my own agony that made me understand, that I had to admit to defeat. Somehow, along the way I seemed to have lost my integrity. I was shocked to see, what has become acceptable to me. I crossed many boundaries, and thought to myself that I didn t need any regulations. The things I said I would never do, I have done However the most upsetting lie I said, were not the ones I said to you. They were the ones I said to myself, the ones I came to believe were true. In spite of the things I did to myself and to others I must now incorporate into my soul, the meaning of Integrity: Loyalty to ethical and moral principles, understanding of moral character honesty. Integrity has to be lodged into my mind, body and soul. This is what I must live by, working in an OR. I thought I could live by my rules, my way I thought to myself, that I was the princess in my own castle; however I came to realize that I was just a poor servant taking orders from the Queen. What a fool I was! I will no longer choose to construct emotional or spiritual walls. When I chose not to practice my decisions based on integrity, I reinforced and intensified my emotional spiritual walls with my own shame and guilt. I refused to take the blame, so I blamed others instead. Until all that I saw; Was my absence of integrity. Where did it go, could it be fixed? ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You should also explore the implications these managerial issues provoke in relation to your practice as a manager or as an employee. In answering this question you are expected to use relevant theories, models and ideas from Unit 2 as well as the stipulated forms of control framework, and pay particular attention to assembling both a coherent and critical argument. This, along with the presence of the Carlson Family in the organization, helps to ensure that the corporate culture stays strong and provides broad direction to the business. The culture also plays an important in helping the company define itself to its employees. However, outside of the senior management team an all encompassing belief in the culture is less pervasive, and use of the culture as a management tool is less effective. An employee s understanding of the company culture is impact by the employee s national cultures and the location of business unit. Outside of the United States, particular in my experience in Asia, when the company s credo is translated into local languages, like Chinese and Thai, the words often do not carry the same meaning. Even with transliterate the credo is not easily understood. This was recognized by Halsall in 2008 who noted that national cultures may share different common values creating a challenge for standardized management practices. We also seen that whilst many employees appreciate the credo their motivation is driven by other needs, such as the security that the wage brings, and the impact that the financial rewards can bring to their families. In these instances the level of the financial reward far out weights the importance of company culture or working environment. My Favorite Vacation This time last year, I went to the Cape Coral Coconut Festival, A festival held yearly in the large lot next to Sun Splash Family Waterpark, a local s hotspot every summer with guaranteed long lines and a densely packed lazy river. Everyone in my family was thrilled, my little brother and sister bouncing up and down on the seats of our familyminivan, while my mom attempted to drive to the festival, amidst ear piercing shrieks, constantly reminding them to calm down. I too was excited, peering up at the brightly colored lights that stretched all the way to the sky. As we pulled into the lot, the rides seemed to loom above, the thought of riding them put a knot in my throat and made my stomach do backflips. We all burst out of the car, walking hand in hand, my little brother (5), my little sister (3), my Mom, my Dad, my grandma, and I. We all rode a few rides to satisfy the little ones, the ladybug ride, and then the merry go round. Shortly after, we passed by a large ride, where flashing lights and pounding music assaulted my senses. It was so much to take in, I figured out the ride was cars connected in a ring on a track that first jolted riders forward before having them disappear in a tube and having them reappear on the other side. Once the ride finally slowed down and then lurched to a stop, the DJ taunted as the cars began to fly in reverse. It all looked very menacing. Do you want to ride that? • 9. History of the Telegraph Essay The electric telegraph is a now outdated communication system that was used to transmit electric signals over wires from location to location that translated into a message by people at stations. The non electric telegraph was invented by Claude Chappe in 1794. This system was visual and used a semaphore, an alphabet based on flag language, and depended on a line of sight for communication. This optical telegraph was replaced by the electric telegraph, eventually. In 1809, a crude telegraph was invented in Bavaria by Samuel Soemmering. He used 35 wires with gold electrodes in water and at the receiving end 2000 feet the message was read by the amount of gas caused by electrolysis. In 1828, the first telegraph in the USA. was ... Samuel made sketches of a magnetized magnet based on Henry s work. He then went on to invent a telegraph system that was a practical and commercial success. He used impulses of electrical current to deflect an electromagnet, which moved a marker to produce written codes on a strip of paper thus the invention of Morse Code. The following year, the device was modified to emboss the paper with dots and dashes. Samuel gave a public demonstration in 1838, but it was not until five years later that the Congress funded $30,000 to construct an experimental telegraph line from Washington to Baltimore, a distance of 40 miles. Six years later, members of Congress witnessed the sending and receiving of messages over part of the telegraph line. Before the line had reached Baltimore, the Whig party held its national convention there, and on May 1, 1844, nominated Henry Clay. This news was hand carried to Annapolis Junction (between Washington and Baltimore) where Samuel s partner, Alfred Vail, wired it to the Capitol. He was a utilitarianist, which is the idea that the right judgment is the judgment that brings the most happiness. Also an Atheist, Bentham was seen as the person who popularized utilitarianism. Bentham believed we could quantify or measure pleasure. He helped found the London College, in which his body was embalmed and used as a reminder of himself, and wrote many books on utilitarianism and found the best way to influence a decision was through pamphleteering. (Duignan, 200) Bentham strongly believed in the separation of church and state and he tried to stop the government to be too Christian related. Bentham revolutionized prisons and made them both more affective and hospitable. Bentham designed a type of prison watch tower called the panopticon. The panopticon design allowed observers in an institution to keep an eye on the inmates without the inmates knowing. (Warburton, 124) The English parliament promised to construct the panopticon, but they didn t. Despite this fact, other prisons around the world used his design like the Kilmainham Gaul in Dublin. (Jeremy Bentham life, Paragraph 11) By not having the inmates know if they were being watched or not, it would make the inmates behave better. If the inmates behaved better, then the prison would be more effective in enforcing proper behavior. Jeremy Bentham believed, All punishment in itself is evil, and it should only be used to diminish greater evil. (Living philosophy, paragraph 3) He attacked criminal laws viciously due to his belief that the prisons were too harsh. Bentham had a campaign for penal reform, which included making prisons more hospitable. (Strangroom, 95). Hitler had always harboured a hatred for the Slavs, he thought they were inferior, impure people who were only fit to be used as slaves. This was a racist attitude ... This showed Hitler was clearly opposed to Stalin and his principles, which is why entire world was shocked when news of the Nazi Soviet Pact reached them. In 1939 Hitler and Stalin signed an agreement that meant they formed a temporary alliance. This non aggression pact could not last; the leaders simply aimed to protect themselves from attack. Hitler and Stalin were complete political opposites; at one end of the scale was Communism, and at the other end was Fascism. Hitler and Stalin represented the two political extremes. It was obvious to the world that this treaty of peace would not last for long. Western Europe had been safely conquered, except for Britain, which was so weak it would not be able to attack for several years. As Germany was still at war with Britain when Operation Barbarossa was beginning, it seemed to Hitler that if the Soviet Union could be defeated it would make the British more willing to accept peace terms. The Nazi reputation would have received a huge boost people would become even more fearful of their power. Sure enough, on December 18th 1940, Hitler signed Directive 21, also known as Operation ... Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby both reflect, in abstract style and varying contexts and elements, the experience of idealised love, hope and mortality. The elements employed by Barret Browning and Fitzgerald, differ in their depictions of these themes through various literary devices, two of which are points of view and motifs/symbols . Barret Browning s sonnetsequence illustrates a complex evolution of emotions as the poet moves through sorrow, self doubt, passion, fear, and ultimately profound exhilaration and joy, even in spite of the restlessly lingering thoughts of her own death, whereas, The Great Gatsby follows the tale of young Nick Carraway, a seemingly... Fitzgerald examines the American Dream by autopsy, through the reflective narrator. Though the principles of the idealistic dream still exist, highlighted by Gatsby s ambition and drive to improve himself, the morality behind the dream has been substituted by money, resulting in decadence, corruption and distinct class divisions between people. Although these correlations between the two diets make them difficult to be distinguished, they are in fact quite dissimilar. The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Juniot Diaz In the novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Juniot Diaz you start to notice a cultural gender role and how there is certain expectations of them. The novel is based on a young boy named Oscar Wao and the hardships that one event has caused to an entire family. Even though the novel is focused on Oscar the author always went back to his sister and his mother. The author described the women as real, strong women, even though they were being filtered through a somewhat distorted male point of view (Stevenson 1). These two women play an important roll in this novel, they ultimately don t show the cultural genderrole and what is expected from them. All the important femalerolls in Oscars life are independent and strong women but they all have one thing in common, being mistreated by men. Women s history led to the historical study of gender. Gender includes the behavior, manners, morals, speech, and emotions expected of men and women because of their sex. Historians of gender have analyzed many characteristics of masculine and feminine behavior in relation to social stereotypes and economic power. The historians studies have provided a means to understand a wide range of social behavior from attitudes about sex to economic inequality in terms of social conventions of gender (Partner 1). • 33. Compare And Contrast Tuck Everlasting Flynn Kelleher1/22/2016 Ms. Molly Tuck Everlasting Essay Have you ever wondered why books seem to always be better than movies based on that book? Well I am here to tell you why. The example I will focus on is Natalie Babbitt s Tuck Everlasting vs Disney s interpretation of Tuck Everlasting. I prefer Natalie Babbitt s Tuck Everlasting over Disney s Tuck Everlasting because of the imagery, the suspense, and the characterization. One example of the imagery being better in the book is the forest. In the book the forest sounds big and beautiful. But, in the movie the forest is quite overgrown and there was not as much wildlife as I expected. Even though the forest wasn t as beautiful as the book portrayed it, it is still quite an amazing sight. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the book Winnie s parents were less interested in finding their daughter than in the movie. I liked this because it made Winnie have another reason to run away. Also, in the book the parents were quicker to give up the spring to the man in the yellow suit. Another example of why the book has better characterization than the movie is Winnie. Winnie was five years younger in the book which gave her time to mature and grow throughout the book. As opposed to in the movie where Winnie was 15 and she did not have as much room to mature and grow. Another aspect of Winnie that was better in the book was her relationship with Jesse. In the book there wasn t as much romance between Winnie and Jesse which I liked because honestly, in the movie, I thought their relationship was an unnecessary side note. The final reason that the characterization was better in the book was the Tucks. In the movie, all the Tuck s opinions were generalized and we didn t get to hear each Tuck s opinion as much as in the book. An example of this is Miles s and Jesse s views on immortality, in the movie we didn t get to hear their differing opinions on immortality as opposed to the book where we herd both their opinions. As you can see Natalie Babbitt s book Tuck Everlasting is much better than Disney s rendition of Tuck Everlasting for three key points. These points were the imagery, the suspense and the characterization. You might ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. The Issue Of Same Sex Marriage There are many important ethical disputes that have been in the forefront of American politics within this last year. Same sex marriage is a debatable topic that attracts many responses from those supporting and those opposing the issue. People who dispute gay marriage believe it is morally wrong, while gay rights activists believe that all marriages be treated equally. This dispute is put into several different lights including morals, family values and religion; and those of equality, constitutionality. Section 1: The first major law that affected same sex marriage was the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). It was approved by Congress and signed into law by President Bill Clinton on September 21, 1996. DOMA defined that marriage was between a man and a woman at the federal level. It also gave states the right to reject recognition of same sex marriages from other states. DOMA mandates unequal treatment of legally married same sex couples, selectively depriving them of the 1,138+ protections and responsibilities that marriage triggers at the federal level. (Freedom to Marry) At the time DOMA was passed, no states permitted gays and lesbians to marry. On June 26, 2013, in Windsor v. United States, Justice Anthony Kennedy, speaking for the 5 4 majority, said DOMA was unconstitutional because it violated the right to liberty and to equal protection for gay couples. • 37. Rhetorical Devices In The Crucible And The Scarlet Letter It is no doubt that even before our time, rhetorical devices were being used in all genres of writing style. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller and The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, there is an immense amount of rhetorical devices being used. These literary works of writing are both set in the early day Massachusettscolony. There are many similarities and differences, rhetorically speaking. Despite the fact that there is a similar use of rhetorical devices there are many differences. Likewise, this play and novel use plenty of rhetorical devices, such as simile and pathos. In the Scarlet Letterand The Crucible both authors use pathos; a quality that brings about pity or sadness. The chief tragic event of old man s life...which lived and died twenty or forty years ago. (Hawthorne, pg. 31). Just as such The Crucible also uses this quality when Giles Corey, who after being seen as a villainous character comes to truth and because of that is executed by being pressed to death. Miller and Hawthorne use pathos in similar ways dealing with death so readers may feel sentiment for the characters. Another rhetorical device used by both authors is Ellipsis. Hawthorne and Miller use this device where they show where words have been left out. (Dictionary.com). In Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, he writes, The father of the custom house the patriarch (Hawthorne, pg.26). Hawthorne uses this device to convey to readers more than one idea. Similar to this, in Miller s The Crucible, he also writes, She is transfixed with all the girls, in complete silence, she is open mouthed (Miller, pg.46). The Authors use this device to show the importance and offer the reader more thinking. Another common rhetorical device between these two pieces is Anaphora; the repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of a successive clause. Miller uses this device in The Crucible to not only exemplify for readers the importance of the dialogue but also the emotion of the characters. I want to open myself! I want the light of God, I want the sweet love of Jesus! (Miller, Pg. 15). In similar effect Hawthorne also uses this device to exemplify and show the true emotions of characters. with the scarlet token of infamy on her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most people will think it is the way of the world. Racial discrimination will always exist in America. It doesn t need to be this way. Our government does not care enough about the black people and it clearly shown. There should be a law against police just arresting blacks for no reason. They should have their neighborhoods fixed up too. It shouldn t be legal to just be able to accuse a black person of a crime because he happened to be standing there. There are so many more examples of this and it just shows how are government thinks impartially too and doesn t believe the black people are important or worth their time. Richard Hughes was very bothered by this and he did a study with his students to show them how blacks are treated unfairly. They analyzed crimes and arrests of black people in the past few months. The looked at how much less money the government puts into black housing then whites. The sources include historical and recent statistics on race, wealth, and housing; a 1937 photograph by Margaret Bourke White juxtaposing African Americanflood victims and a billboard proclaiming, There s No Way Like the American Way (Hughes139). Human Impact on the Carbon, Nitrogen, and Phosphorus Cycles Danielle Abbadusky Everest University Human impact on the cycling matter in ecosystems can change a lot of things. Humans can either help or hurt things. The carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus cycles are the three cycles of matter in ecosystems. What are these cycles? How do humans effect each one of these individual cycles? What are some examples of humans effecting these cycles? What is the carbon cycle? These compounds are taken up by plants as nutrients from the soil and converted into plant proteins (amino acids). Plant proteins become animal proteins when eaten and metabolized by herbivorous animals, and when carnivorous animals eat the herbivorous. These proteins return to the soil through animal excrement and the decomposition of dead animals and plants, and are converted into carbon dioxide, water, and ammonia (gaseous compound of nitrogen and hydrogen) by a set of bacteria in the soil. A portion of this ammonia is converted into soil nitrogen (fixed nitrogen) by another set of bacteria and the balance is released into the atmosphere as free nitrogen (N2). (nitrogen cycle, n.d.) Human impact on this cycle is very significant. Farmers plant crops such as; peas, beans, and alfalfa. These crops pull nitrogen from the air which helps raise the rate of nitrogen fixation on the land. Farmers also plant corn and wheat which are sprayed with nitrogen derived from industrial fixation. All of these crops help humans to survive. Having these crops benefiting humans we are more than doubling the amount of nitrogen that s moved from the atmosphere to the land. When sulfur is released by burning fossil fuels, which humans do, this is killing and polluting our lakes and ponds and killing our forests. Throughout traditional and modern literature, the formulaic structure of myths and the use of archetypes has been utilized in a consistent manner. Although many would argue that the universal application of archetypes has been erratic and intermittent through time, the implementation of the major hero and mentor archetypes within the tale of King Arthur and The Odyssey, and the refined utilization of archetypes in modern literature, exhibit the universality of archetypes in different cultures and time periods. The hero archetype in both the tale of King Arthur and The Odyssey exemplifies its omnitude in British and Greek culture respectively. Although each hero delineates his own culture s values during different times, it is evident that both share similar qualities and traits pertaining to the hero archetype. In Homer s The Odyssey, Odysseusis representative of the Greek values of rule through Gods and Goddesses. In contrast, King Arthur represents British values of rule without the significant influence of supernatural beings.
