Reaction Paper On Octopi
I have been fascinated by the intelligence and resourcefulness shown by octopi for the past few weeks
since I went scuba diving. The main purpose of this trip was to be able to learn more about octopi in
their natural habitat, as I had been given an assignment regarding the morality of consuming octopi. I
was given the opportunity to fully observe the complexity of octopi in their natural habitat. I realized
these animals capabilities people fear these almost harmless animals? In the past, I truly enjoyed the
savory taste of a variety of octopus inspired meals. Many people disregard the octopus, giving it little
to no thought unless there is a debate for dinner. Thinking of it as another average creature, as I did,
with little to no intelligence, this is a common misconception that is meant to give some kind of
justification when consuming the animal. In reality, octopi are one of the most intelligent species,
having highly developed sentient characteristics. The more research I did regarding the octopus, the
more my personal moral dilemma shifted to the support of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I noticed a tremendous change in the way octopi were viewed in Japan, China, and Korea food and
more food, along with an occasional natural or cartoony picture of an octopus. On the other hand, I
was pleased to see that the creature is more respected in western society, not thought of as food or
childish cartoons. Most pictures found in the English language are more serious, showing octopi in
their natural state; sadly the same cannot be said for the lobster. Many restaurants in western society
cause the octopus unimaginable amounts of pain, some even provide the octopus still alive, to be
devoured by the participant; giving the octopus more than enough time to realize it s soon to end

The Effect Of Temperature On The Pressure Of A Tennis Ball
Pressure and temperature, two important subjects in the broad system of knowledge, Science. It is true
that temperature greatly affects the pressure of a tennis ball; temperature can increase and reduce
pressure of a tennis ball, depending on the heat added or taken away; this would benefit people
designing objects to absorb shock. A good example of this would be, when designing buildings to
survive in areas where earthquakes happen frequently. What is the effect of temperature on pressure?
That is the question that will be answered in this document of inquiry.
A normal tennis ball has a rubber core occupied with a gas that is composed of unorganized molecules
or atoms that move around freely. Molecules of a gas can effortlessly expand and contract. When the
ball hits the ground, the force causes the ball s bottom surface in, and the gas in the core constricts.
The gas then springs up when the ball becomes its usual shape, causing the tennis ball to bounce up.
The height of a tennis ball s bounce is determined by the pressure of the gas in the ball s core. Pressure
of a gas can be found with this equation: pressure =density × temperature × constant
At a higher temperature, there is more pressure (if there isn t a single change in density and constant);
at a lower temperature, there will be less pressure. When temperature rises, the ball s gas molecules
expand; when gas molecules expand, the molecules bounce irregularly due to an increase in energy.
When temperature drops,

The Legendary Musician, Ray Charles Robinson Essay
The Legendary Musician, Ray Charles Robinson
Ray Charles Robinson was born on September 23, 1930 in Albany Georgia. His father was Bailey
Robinson, a railroad repair man, and his mother was
Retha. His father never married his mother. His legal wife was Mary Jane, who also helped to raise
Charles.
By the time he was three, young Charles was learning to play the piano.
When he was five his brother, who was three at the time, drowned. A few months later Charles got the
disease that would make him go blind by the time he was seven.
After he became totally blind at the age of seven, Charles went to a school for the blind in St.

After a numerous amount of months, a record producer noticed him and
Charles had his first album: Confession Blues. Afterward Charles went on the road for a few years. He
played at bars around the country. It was known by musicians as the chitlin circuit.
Soon Charles stopped imitating other musicians, as he had been doing up until this point, and began to
combine gospel and rhythm and blues, and, in doing so, created soul. He is still called the Genius of
Soul today. In
1955 Charles made recorded I ve Got a Women , and made history. It helped pave the way for soul for
years to come.
In the 1960 s Charles recorded I Can t Stop Loving You (a piece of country music) with a large
orchestra and his own voice. This song, like his others, was loved by the American people.
Unfortunately, in the 1940 s Charles became addicted to heroin, and in
1964 he was arrested for it. While he was awaiting his trial he went to an award ceremony in which
his son, Ray Jr. was receiving an award. He had to leave before his son received his award, so Ray Jr.
cried. Charles, seeing this, realized that his son would be very hurt if someone yelled out that
Charles was a drug addict, so he went to the hospital and went cold turkey on drugs. After a year, he
was over the addiction.
Charles is a man of extremes. He was impatient, and he would not listen to complaints. When he was

Analysis Of The Documentary Armadillo Essay
The Dutch documentary Armadillo (2010) directed by Janus Metz Pedersen takes its audience into the
world of the platoon of Dutch soldiers as they complete a tour of duty in Afghanistan against the
Taliban. Majority of the dialogue in the film was spoken in Dutch, as well as Arabic spoken by the
Afghanistan citizens, the use of English subtitles translated for understanding. The documentary
begins with 4 men and then the introduction of other comrades, the documentary moves forward as the
actions and effects of war is put into focus. This is some of the few decisions made by the film maker,
as the message intended for the audience is made through the structure decided by the director. The
narrative structure of a documentary can be explained through several modes that can be present
within the documentary. Modes include Actuality, Expository, Observational, Rhetoric and
Participatory. The use of camera work, editing, and sound can help with the narration and better
understanding of the overall documentary. All of the modes, supported by the use of visual and oral
techniques, help the director express his perspective of the Dutch troop duty tour of the Afghanistan
and the intended message.
Actuality mode of the documentary emphasises the importance of realism and facts within the footage.
The purpose is to expose the audience to the real world, or some would say the harsh truth which in
the case of Armadillo, is the war and violence present. A scene in that was edited to

Women s Exploitation Of Women
The exploitation of women in production, and the exclusion of women from consumption is not the
only ways in which the female body is harmed as a result of the globalization of the fashion industry.
Perhaps the most obvious occurrence of female body harm in the fashion industry is a result of fashion
modeling. An up close look into the modeling industry as a microcosm of the fashion industry reveals
the severe objectification and commodification of fashion models for the sake of consumption.
The modeling industry has created a culture of exclusion across genders and races. Author Ashley
Mears (2010) critically analyses the fashion industry, and how it influences production of culture and
beauty ideals around the world. The modeling world is extremely female dominated, and the women
who participate are continually commodified as they are used as a means to promote and disseminate
ideas of how women should look, (p. 23). Because consumption is valued so in today s society, the
model is employed based on her perceived ability to sell a product. The clothes she is hired to wear
and the beauty ideal that she is helping sell are more important than her humanity, and she becomes
dehumanized. Clothes take on such utmost importance that models are and should be mere clothes
hangers, with perfectly discrete bodies that will display the clothes but not detract from them, (Mears,
2010, p. 35). Models are blatantly objectified as they are forced be invisible for the sake of

Critical Analysis of SAP Systems Adoption in Business...
INTRODUCTION SAP, an acronym for Systems Applications Products is an audit of a computer
system from SAP that is meant to make operations around the business environment easy and to wide
depths. The relationship between the business and client environment is recently becoming wider and
the incorporation of a single unit of management considered the remedy to congestion and delays
(Carmel, E. 1997). Throughout the project, the credibility, efficiency, flexibility and suitability of SAP
will be discussed critically by evaluating the real time applications of SAP to fitting the ever
expanding world of business and the extent to which it has challenged the minds of software
developers and users (Carmel, E. 1997). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of SAP reduces the workload of manually planning for activities which consumes a lot of
time delaying the processing of data hence data inconsistence avoided. Enhance productivity and
insight: The usage of SAP in a business brings about tangible results in that the production ratio is
high since data is put into the system once and can be forwarded to other levels in a smooth workflow
using the social media available (Osterle, H. 1998). Operations can be carried in different sections and
passed along to other levels within the firm for processing ensuring high output ratio within a short
time. Employees can as well process their own transactions from various terminals and at the same
time generate a final data of their activities. Improves corporation, governance and financial
management: Integration of various systems into a single unit, financial crises is reduced and the flow
of finances within the firm controlled. This ensures that reports on financial usage are accessible from
any terminal and the SAP system stores any entry made at any given time. On the other hand,
management is easy since all the source information required is accessible at one point and
information distribution is on time (Osterle, H. 1998). Doing everything under a system reduces the
act of supervision since the system has the ability to monitor any transaction and generate a

Comparing John Locke s Distinction Between Primary And...
A Discussion On Locke s Distinction Between Primary And Secondary Qualities And Berkeley s
Opposition
Moved by a desire to end skepticism and provide proof for the existence of God, Berkeley defended
that the root of all of the former is the belief that there are mind independent matters. Much different
than his immaterialist view, John Locke developed a philosophy in advances to an apparently natural
form of realism, in where material matters are in existences, but also independently of our minds. In
this essay I will discuss John Locke s idea of primary and secondary qualities as well as Berkeley s
objection that both must exist only in our minds.
In order to discuss primary and secondary qualities, we must first address the definition ... Show more

As mentioned previously, one of the most known objections to the distinction of primary and
secondary qualities was raised by George Berkeley. Differently than Locke, who was a metaphysical
dualist, Berkeley was an immaterialist. His philosophy defended that all objects are strictly fragments
of our minds: All that exists are minds and their ideas . As Locke defines secondary qualities as ideas
in our minds caused by objects in the real world, it follows that central to Berkeley s objection is the
idea that secondary qualities are strictly in our minds, using it to argue that primary qualities must also
be products of our minds rather than of objects in the world. In his words, That the qualities we
perceive are not on the objects: that we must not believe our senses: that we know nothing of the real
nature of things, and can never be assured even of their existence: that real colours and sounds are
nothing but certain unknown figures and motions:. . . these are the strange notions which . . .
embarrass the mind with endless doubts and difficulties. And it is against these. . . I endeavor to
vindicate common sense . Berkeley argued that secondary qualities are only ideas in our mind,
therefore so are primary qualities. For him, there cannot be ideas that exist independent of a mind, as
well as no things existing that are not ideas. Reinforced by Philonous, There are only things
perceiving, and things perceived;

Dna Testing And The Criminal Justice System
Convictions prior to the advancement of DNA testing in the criminal justice system were commonly
found to be later wrongful and due to eyewitness misidentification (Scheck Neufeld, 2001). Hence,
there has been increasing research by psychologists in eyewitness memory and particularly in line up
practices. In criminal identification, a simultaneous line up (SIM) is typically used and involves
presenting the witness with all line up suspects at once with the offender (target) placed amongst other
innocent suspects (foils) that resemble the offender (Wells Olsen, 2003). With these conditions,
witnesses have a tendency to compare suspects with each other in order to determine the one that have
the closest resemblance with the offender, a process called relative judgement (Steblay, Dysart, Fulero
Lindsay, 2001). In the simultaneous line ups with target present, there are more hits as the closest
resemblance is the perpetrator but while in target absent conditions, the closest matching foil is often
picked and resulting in more false alarms (Steblay, Dysart, Fulero Lindsay, 2001). Therefore, to
prevent the potential of misidentification, alternative line up presentations have been developed to
inhibit relative judgement processes such as sequential line up in Lindsay and Wells (1985).
Sequential line ups (SEQ) involves presenting a line up of photos in a sequential format and
eyewitnesses can only view the photo once and must determined whether the photo matches the

Johnny Appleseed Essay
The legend of Johnny Appleseed developed from the historical account of John Chapman because the
two characters have many similarities in their traits and their journey. Basically, Johnny Appleseed and
Jonathan Chapman are the same people, but the legend exaggerates his character traits, and the
historical accounts state the facts about him. In both accounts, he is very religious because he has his
Bible, which shows Christian belief, with him. The two people also plant apple trees throughout the
frontiers of America. Johnny Appleseed/John Chapman endured many hardships, but Johnny
Appleseed endured more difficulties than John Chapman. Therefore, the legend of Johnny Appleseed
is an exaggeration of the historical account of John Chapman.

frontiers of America. Summer and winter he wore only a burlap sack cut with armholes and a cooking
pot as a hat... He slept outdoors and ate only meals of bread and milk so as not to harm any creature in
the pursuit of food. Even those nights when a frontier family took him in, he refused a bed in favor of
the floor and requested only porridge to eat. He carried no weapons and he wore no shoes. Folks

My Experience In Canada
Ever wonder what walking the Great Wall of China would be like? Ever dreamed of feeling the fresh
cold air of Canada? What s it like eating baguettes in France next to the Eiffel Tower? Traveling is a
popular dream among all of us, and making it a reality is a great learning experiences! I visited
Canada in April of 2017, and had a personal emotional attachment to the culture and the whole
environment, and the people I traveled with could say the same. Traveling is truly the most exciting
part in a person s life because it makes their dreams of meeting different cultures a reality and gives
them perspectives of seeing the world differently.
Traveling is an exciting learning experience. When people want to learn a different language, traveling
a different country will tremendously help them learn it. People usually learn their first language by
hearing it all the time by their family. When foreigners go to a different country, assimilating to the
language is much easier if they continue to hear it. When I visited Canada, and heard Canadian French
on the radio, in the streets, and in their music, it felt wonderful that I could understand what they were
saying and it made it easier actually processing the beautiful language. I always wondered why I
couldn t learn French that well in the United States of America, it s because I was so used to hearing
English all the time. This proves that traveling helps people learn languages better because hearing

Portrayal Of The Jim Crow
The term Jim Crow originated from actor Thomas Rice, who dressed in blackface while pretending to
be a beggar. While acting he often imitated many of the mannerisms ascribed to African Americans.
Rice also created a song called Jump Jim Crow from a routine he saw performed by an elderly stable
man who was owned by Mr. Crow. Rice s portrayal of African American life became very popular
among individuals in the North and the South. The term Jim Crow soon became a common phrase in
American Language. Jim Crow laws became a way for Whites to keep free African Americans in their
place . Signs were placed in many public venues in order to keep African Americans and Whites

Mary doesn t recall the negative effects that Jim Crow had on African Americans. Mary believed that
African Americans made the choice to endure some of the oppressions that they faced. For example,
Mary believed that African Americans chose to sit on the back of the bus. Additionally, Mary was
raised by an African American caretaker and she was surrounded by African American tenants on her
family s plantation. She also believed that the African Americans that worked on her families

Mary s statement reflects a form of covert racism. This quote tends to depict the hardships of African
Americans as merely inconvenient aspects of everyday life. Instead of viewing Jim Crow laws as
inhumane, many Whites neglect to comprehend the damage that these laws had on Black families.
This quote also embodies the notion of the veil that Dubois described. African Americans had to hide
their true intentions behind a smile when in the presence of Whites. As a result, some Whites believe
that African Americans were accepting of the systematic racism that they

Summary Of Muse Des Beaux Arts
In large cities, there are lots of homeless. People with pleas for help, but almost never receive. How
could so many passersby not help them? In the poem Musée des Beaux Arts , Auden argues that
humans lack empathy for strangers. He uses examples of people acquiescing to others suffering to
support his point. Auden complements those examples with a variety of literary methods to make
allowing other to suffer seem natural, and be persuasive. Auden uses various persuasive elements
throughout Musée des Beaux Arts to convince the reader that people do not empathize with strangers.
His main tools are the literary devices of irony, enjambment, and rhyme.
Auden primarily uses irony to prove that humans have no empathy for strangers. For example, at the
end of the first stanza, he writes, . . . the torturer s horse/ scratches its innocent behind on a tree (12
13). The torturer s horse is indifferent to what his master is doing, which enables him to remain
innocent. The irony that a torturer s horse is innocent conveys that if one ignores others suffering, one
could remain happy in a cruel world. Irony puts extra emphasis on these lines and Auden demonstrates
that this belief is central to his argument. The way that it is introduced also adds to the efficacy of
persuasion. By making a simple analogy, he demonstrates his faith in his belief. Confidence makes for
a more convincing argument, so Auden makes his poem even more persuasive. Additionally, the
simplicity makes the conclusion come logically to most people. To add on to his logos, in the next
stanza he says, Something amazing, a boy falling out of the sky,/ [The ship] Had somewhere to get to
and sailed calmly on (20 21). Auden alludes to the painting The Fall of Icarus which depicts Icarus s
death in the sea. In this painting, nothing acknowledges his death. The connection here demonstrates
that while this event may initially appear to be tragic, but Icarus is insignificant in the grand scheme of
things. On the other hand, Amazing has a very positive connotation and contrasts with the general
mood of the poem. The irony that a boy s death is amazing is shocking; however, once the initial
shock fades and thought is put in, the logic of the rest of the

Analysis Of Donald J. Trump
Donald J. Trump

November 17, 2016
Introduction
I chose to write about candidate Donald J. Trump because his idea of improving economics, creating
more job opportunities and diminishing the gap between classes is favored by a large number of
people in middle class and lower class, who are important forces during the election. Not believing in
the American Dream claimed by Obama any longer, these people want to see something solid and
practical which can actually improve their lives. Trump may be a good choice for they.
Message
With everything that Donald J. Trump has gone through in his past his main theme is that he was a
very successful business man on real property and other business interests worldwide, along with his
famous Trump Tower, casinos and hotels. To gain greater popularity, Trump joined TV show, judged
on beauty pageants and guest starred on TV dramas and movies. Overall, Little political experience
did he had in the past.
Image
Trump s image that comes to mind to most people at first is that he is a jerk, an old madman who
loves saying Reagan s make America great again . It seems that he can get annoyed very easily and
likes criticizing people. This characteristic is a two edged sword that it can be charming to those who
like him, but very undesirable to those who hate him. With zero experience on politics, Trump s
presidential nomination is considered a joke. In order to gain greater attention

It was all about me (sometimes it kind of still, is to be honest). I didn t care if I hurt your feelings. I
thought volunteering was for nerds. I always satisfied my own pleasures. I would lie and manipulate
to get my way (OK, Mom, I admitted it, are you happy now?!). I wouldn t return favors. I used people.
And then... The darn yoga. Yoga kicked and scratched and bruised my ego. It put me in my place on
more than on occasion and force fed me some humble pie. It made me care about other people. Yoga
led me to Kula for Karma, and then I realized how important seva and volunteering are. Now I can t
imagine a life without them. As mentioned earlier, it made me think before I spoke... And in those
thoughts, other people s feelings and circumstances came up. I found myself forgiving people and
praying for people rather than threatening people and pulling hair. Now I want other people to feel

The Impact Of Organizational Activity On The Performance...
The preeminent feature of organizational activity is its programmed character: behavior is an
enactment of (more or less) pre established routines: At any given time, a government consists of
existing organizations, each with a fix set of standard operating procedures and programs. The
behavior of these organization and consequently of the government is therefore, determine primarily
by routines established in these organizations prior to that instance . (Allison 1971: 81) The more
standardized these procedures are, the less discretionary is to carry them out. The downside is that
responses may become less appropriate to surprising and non expected events. The 27F crisis is a
suitable case to analyze the performance of a large scale organization like the State and its patterns of
response to external problems. Allison s model establishes that to perform complex routines, the
behavior of a large number of individuals must be coordinated and that such coordination requires
standard operating procedures: rules that determine what/how things are done. I will add that SORs
never self generated but depends on leaders that decided which organizations, what programs and
where to proceed. Hence, reliable performance of action that depends upon the behavior of hundreds
of persons requires well established programs (Allison, 1971). In this case, there was a protocol in
place that clearly indicated those responsible for gathering, analyzing and communicating the
information.

Remote Control or Mind Control
Imagine this, it s the year 2020 and you re long gone from UC s campus. You ve gotten the job you ve
always wanted and finally have a family of your own. You come home from working a 15 hour shift
and your three year old toddler starts throwing a tantrum about being bored but, your spouse is gone
for the time being and only you can entertain the child. What do you do? Do you swallow your pride
and play games, read, and or color with him or do you simply turn on the television and let
SpongeBob take it away? This is a big battle that exists in today s society. Most people tend to have an
opinion that media, specifically television and video games, are having long term effects on our
children concerning their behavior and morals. Others, although typically outnumbered, think that the
media does not heavily impact children and most children, if raised with proper care, will know the
difference between right and wrong even with media present in their life. In one text, an informative,
factual research style paper, the University of Michigan Health System gives insight as to why
television may be more harmful than helpful to our youth using raw data from clinical researches. For
my second text I have chosen a freehanded, opinion based article, written by a parent who sees
nothing wrong with letting his children watch television. These two articles have different insight on
the same subject considering it s discourse community, audience, and style of writing. I ll begin with

Examples Of Stewardship In North America
What does it mean to be Stewards of this earth? This question was asked in class and does a good job
of describing the situation that many Christians today face. It all depends on our definition of
stewardship. I believe that an excellent example of stewardship is the Zuni tribe. They exemplify what
it truly means to take care of the earth. As Christians we need to not only pay attention to their actions
but also seek to emulate them. The Zuni are located in New Mexico where they have lived for over
3000 years. While they they have not stayed in one place, they have cared for every place they have
lived. The land around which they are located has very little rainfall. This does not mean that they live
in a wasteland devoid of life and in fact it ranks one of the top five ecological systems in North
America (Briefing Document, Of Silt and Ancient Voices). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They believe that they are related to awitellin citta [Mother Earth]. This means that there is a bond
between them and the world around them. They did not believe in disturbing the ground so they only
dug small holes. They took care of water so well in their desert environment that we should should try
and copy them. The Zuni did not believe in wasting any water, every drop of it was to be used for one
thing or another. According to the document ...lakes and springs can be used for drinking and
agriculture as long as it is shared harmoniously and without overconsumption (Handout A, Silt and
Ancient Voices). This quote really shows the Zuni mindset, treat the land with respect and do not take
what you do not need. This was a people who understood the balance between man and nature. They

Assur Culture
I am a work of art that was created in the Neo Assyrian period, and I once lined the halls of the
Northwest Palace at Nimrud. The large halls I once stood in contained many large stones carved in
low relief, and were brightly painted with gigantic sculptural figures guarding the doorway. Together,
we told a story of our King and his many travels and his victories. However, those days are long gone,
and I no longer stand along the magnificent palace walls. Since that time, I have been separated from
my home, and moved around many places. It is quite an interesting story, but it all starts long before I
was created. The real story begins back in the ninth century B.C. The city state of Assur was located
on the upper course of the Tigris. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In each room there seemed to be different themes of what was shown on the reliefs. I was located on

attendants engaging in activities that could be identified as pouring libations. I am now classified as
slabs 7 and 8, I am 465 cm, and I am made of gypsum alabaster. On my front side is a low relief of my
king, Ashurnasirpal II. He is wearing the royal crown, which is a conical cap with a small peak and a
long diadem. He also holds a bow, which is a symbol of his authority, and a ceremonial bowl. Facing
him is a eunuch, or a beardless one . He is carrying a fly whisk and a ladle for replenishing the royal
vessel. The upper parts of the body are facing towards the viewer, while the legs, feet, arms, and face
are shown from the side. These features, along with the shape of the eyes seem to resemble Egyptian
art. There are distinct patterns in the beards and hair of the king and the attendant. Also, the muscles in
the arms and legs are clearly defined within the relief. Both the king and the attendant are dressed in
long robes, and are carrying swords at their sides. Both are also wearing earrings, and bands around
their wrists and upper arms. Flowing across the middle of the relief is actual writing. This writing

The Gangster Film Genre Of The Mafia
The gangster film genre is a subgenre of the crime film, dealing with organized crime and more often
than not, the Mafia. Though gangster films have their root in the silent era, the genre became widely
popular in the 1930 s Hollywood Studio era, which is characterized by the Hollywood Genre System.
Genre films offered economic advantages, including the repeated use of standardized themes,
elements, characters and iconography. Additionally, genre films were easily marketable, as audiences
knew what to expect from each genre. If a viewer enjoyed one film from a particular genre, they were
likely to enjoy any other film falling into that genre. Specific themes and elements can be readily
identified in gangster films. For one, they commonly question the meaning of success and failure in
terms of the American dream. Warshow asserts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dissatisfied with modern American life, he uses his methods of criminality and violence in an attempt
to overcome the system, redefine his circumstances, achieve success on his own terms and ultimately
control the reality he lives in. The world is his. His success is barely defined, however it is usually
characterized by violence and criminality without impunity and acquisition of material goods. As his

The Odyssey, By Homer, And The Inferno
Ulysses in Hell The two epics The Odyssey, by Homer, and The Inferno, by Dante, both works have
two different perspectives of the character Ulysses. The Odyssey is told from the ancient Greek
perspective around 700BC, and The Inferno is told from a Christian point of view in 1300AD. Both
epics are written nearly 2000 years apart from each other. What set apart the ideals of both epics are
the Pagan warrior perspective in Homer s epic and the Christian Europe perspective in Dante s epic.
The controversial topic is what makes Ulysses a hero in The Odyssey and what makes him one of the
world s greatest sinners in The Inferno? In The Odyssey, Odysseus or Ulysses, is considered a hero.
Odysseus portrays all the qualities of a hero in this epic. He portrays courage, wisdom, and endurance
throughout the work, which makes up the qualities of a Pagan warrior s idea of a hero. Zeus says
Great Odysseus who excels all men in wisdom, excels in offerings too he gives the immortal gods
who rule the vaulting skies? (Ody. 1.78 80). When speaking about Odysseus, he describes him as
wise. Odysseus uses wisdom in the various obstacles he crosses on his journey home. Wisdom is all
about knowing who you truly are and where you are going. This means denying temptation and not
forgetting where you are going. On his journey home, he must turn down, possibly one of the greatest
temptations, which is immortality. In hopes of keeping Odysseus with her, and not leaving to return
home she says

The Pitfalls Of Creative Destruction
Pitfalls of Creative Destruction
Strong standing businesses have a definite answer to the five fundamental questions introduced in
chapter two: what will be produced, how it will be made, who will get the goods, how to
accommodate to change, and how to promote progress. However, outdated businesses start to
collapse, suffer losses, and even close down when rival firms introduce cutting edge innovations. This
is the result of creative destruction: new products and production methods replace or rather destroy
obsolete goods (McConnell et al 37). Creative destruction benefits the consumers because the new
products make their lives easier and economic evidence shows that old firms should learn the newest
technologies. On a microeconomic basis, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Netflix was stealing Blockbuster s consumer market. Figure 2 displays Netflix s and Blockbuster s
revenue, where initially Blockbuster s revenue was way greater than Netflix s revenue. While Netflix
made a steady rate of income, Blockbuster had steady losses and eventually a great drop in income,
which lead to bankruptcy. Economically speaking, Blockbuster had to shut down because its marginal
revenue was lower than its average total costs. Every time the business sold their product, it made
losses because the revenue never covered its cost of operating and production costs. Among the five
fundamental questions discussed in chapter two, how a product will be produced is vital. Firms want
to minimize the cost of making an output. Thus, Blockbuster used efficient ways to produce its movies
and games by outsourcing and reduced staffing (WordPress). However, a major expense for
Blockbuster was rent for the location of its stores and wages for its employees, which Netflix did not

Mrs. Dalloway
I. Mrs. Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf, was published on May 14, 1925 in London, England. The novel
follows Clarissa Dalloway and a variety of other characters throughout the span of one day in their
lives in 1923 London. Woolf utilizes a narrative method of writing. With the novel s structure, the
narrator possesses the ability to move inside of a character s mind and compose her thoughts and
emotions immediately as events occur throughout the day. The novel s main character, Clarissa, is a
middle aged woman who belongs to the upper middle class in society and is well married to a Member
of Parliament Richard Dalloway. Clarissa s day is full of arrangements for a dinner party she plans to

Rather than hold lengthy conversations between characters, she frequently writes only of small talk
and leaves more serious topics to be recited in an individual s exclusive thoughts. One of her purposes
in writing the novel is to expose the hypocrisy of society. The characters in the novel range from
eccentric acquaintances to extravagant lords and ladies to vindictive tutors to suicidal veterans. One
example of this theme occurs when Rezia and Septimus attempt to settle down in the park. When the
airplane soars overhead, she writes, Tears ran down his cheeks (Woolf 21). While one may mistake
this as joy or, at worst, sorrow over the recent war, Woolf gives the reality of the action beneath the
surface, stating, They are signaling to me... this exquisite beauty... but he would not go mad. He would
see no more (21). While Septimus dwindles on the brink of insanity, Rezia chatters away about nature,
unaware of the mess resting beside her. Septimus portrays the appearance of one man yet expresses an
entirely new persona through his contemplations. Another instance of the theme transpires when Miss
Kilman and Clarissa wait for Elizabeth to retrieve her gloves before going shopping. Clarissa and
Kilman both make attempts at small talk. However, both give their attentions to a mutual disgust of
each other. Clarissa simply asks if Kilman is taking Elizabeth to the stores. Kilman replies dryly, but

Human Trafficking In Haiti
It s one of the biggest problems that we have , said Jean Max Bellerive, Haiti s previous prime
minster. What he s referring to is the human trafficking issue that has boomed in this country. Human
trafficking has existed in Haiti for years, destroying families and individuals. The issue hasn t been
this big until recent years, which I plan to look into. Human trafficking has become such a huge
industry not only in Haiti, but also through the whole world causing it to have such a huge impact on
global politics. What I plan to investigate is how the issue of human trafficking affects global politics
in a whole. Before going too deep into this issue, everyone should understand what human trafficking
is. Human trafficking is the illegal movement of people, typically for the purposes of forced labor or
commercial sexual exploitation. This may include providing a spouse in a forced marriage or the
extraction of organs or tissues. Yuri Fedotov, the head of the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime, said, At
any one time, 2.4 million people suffer the misery of this humiliating and degrading crime. It is
estimated that only one out of 100 victims of trafficking are ever rescued.
When first looking into this issue, I wondered why human trafficking has become such a huge
problem in Haiti so I tried to find some connection between the two and I what found was tragic. On

Disease is currently not a direct death endangerment. There has not been an official case where a
patient has directly died from Parkinson, but there have been cases of evidence that in some type of
Parkinson diseases were created by a mutated gene that creates a certain protein. The average percent

Michael Buckley s Sympathy In The Film Witness

stigmatised by society. Today, the general populace has finally started to understand the pain of
suffering with mental illness and institutionalisation due to the combined efforts of various films and
documentaries that highlight the struggles of living with mental illness. Witness, directed by young

Examples include; Harrowell recreating past memories, as well as recounting the story repetitively

imposition with young Harrowell and present Harrowell, Buckley allows Harrowell to take the viewer
by hand and drag them back to the past. This lets the viewer to experience what Harrowell
experienced making the viewer feel empathy as well as sympathy. When Harrowell recounts his story
directly to the viewer, he does so repetitively, causing the viewer to slowly conform to his voice,
giving the viewer a sense of familiarity with him and thus allowing Harrowell to access the viewer s
emotions easier. Also when Harrowell is talking, the camera only captures his head and shoulders,
which is a film technique known as talking head. Through using talking head, Buckley creates a
situation with viewer that makes them feel as though they are having a private, personal conversation
directly with Harrowell as the head and shoulders area is the general focus of a person s gaze when in
conversion. When Harrowell says something like I was scared to damn hell , whilst the viewer is still

Pop Culture
Topic: Do the representations of female warriors in popular culture promote stigmatization of women?
Introduction
In the society, we always heard a lot of labels on women. There are a lot of reasons create this
phenomenon. Pop culture, which includes entertainment, new, fashion, technology etc., put great
influence on the society that changes the individual s behavior. Anime, which is one of the pop
culture, is now becoming more and more popular. Lots of people are addicted to it that leads into a
great business such games, movies and different products. Anime even become one of the biggest
business in Japan, thus we cannot neglect the influence of anime.
Stigmatization is first explored as a social phenomenon in 1895 by French sociologist Émile
Durkheim and further explained by other socialists. According to Erving Goffman who is one of the
most influential sociologists in the 20th century. He defined stigma as: the phenomenon whereby an
individual with an attribute which is deeply discredited by his/her society is rejected because of the
attribute. Stigma is a process by which the reaction of others spoils normal identity.
In this paper, the stigmatization is only considered as having labels on characters of women such as
the image and their role in the anime.
In this paper, four anime will be taken into consideration due to the word limitation. The four anime is
as follow: Sword Art Online (刀劍神域), One Piece (海賊王), Fairy Tale (妖精尾巴) and Naruto (火

Malcolm was not a black supremacist and was not racist towards whites. In his speech The Ballot or
the Bullet given on April 3, 1964 in Cleveland, OH, Malcolm explained, Now in speaking like this, it
doesn t mean that we re anti white, but it does mean we re anti exploitation, we re anti degradation, we
re anti oppression. And if the white man doesn t want us to be anti him, let him stop oppressing and
exploiting and degrading us.
Why would anyone feel comfortable living in a society integrated with the people who instilled in
them the belief that they were subpar and actually taught them to hate themselves?
Hardships can pull people apart, but Malcolm found that common factor that unified people to come
together. He made them realize that they all came from the same place and had the same struggles, and
that is what brought them together. The only thing that all blacks in America had in common was the
fact that none of their black ancestors originated in the United States. They had all been brought from
Africa in one way or

DigiVal DigiVal Plus Manufacturing Company sells a range of computers, notebook computers,
desktop computers, high end servers and has a market share of 22 percent, along with another office in
the U.K. with sales in Europe at 30 percent total sales. There are three team members who are
qualified to get the companies market back on track. CEO, B.J. Downey, who targets the strategies,
goals and revenue targets has steered DigiVal for the past 12 years. George Hernandez, Group

They would find gas station with a cheaper price. If the station lowered the amount of gasoline by
10% or 15%, there would be a line wrapped around the corner of that gas station. People would go out
of their way to buy cheap gas.
Total receipts and total revenue are determined by multiplying the price of the gas by the quantity
sold. If the demand for a product is elastic, the amount consumer s buy will go up and the price will be
lowered, but if inelastic, a lower price would mean a small increase in the quantity demanded. It
would not be enough if sales increased.
Substitutes and Compliments
Gas cannot be substituted. For food, which is a good, can be substituted. If the price of fish and butter
go up, buyers can switch to chicken and margarine. Small changes in the price of a product will cause
people to switch from one product to the other. When quantity like this sells in a particular store or
small store, the quantity changes drastically by the impact of store receipts, which tends to make the
demand elastic. The more changes in substitutes the more elastic it becomes, the less substitutes for
that particular product, the more inelastic the demand becomes.

Witchcraft in Contemporary African Society Essays
I. INTRODUCTION
The Enlightenment and the emerging of modern rationalism have paved the way to a worldview where
the suspicion of witchcraft is not needed to explain the mysterious phenomena of this world. This is
not the case in Africa. The belief in the existence of witches, evil persons who are able to harm others
by using mystical powers, is part of the common cultural knowledge. Samuel Waje Kunhiyop states,
Almost all African societies believe in witchcraft in one form or another. Belief in witchcraft is the
traditional way of explaining the ultimate cause of evil, misfortune or death. The African worldview is
holistic. In this perception, things do not just happen. What happens, either good or bad, is traced back
to human action, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aylward Shorter adds It is the image of unrepentant human wickedness. John S. Mbiti also concur
with Shorter and Magesa, he states Witchcraft are the greatest enemies of society. Magesa thought the
English term is misleading in a sense that In Africa, it is not a craft but the mysterious power of evil
potentially in every human being that manifests itself in all areas of life society, politics, economy,
religion, etc.
When something bad happens, people hardly ask how it occurred but who did it. It is believed that
every misfortune is caused by humans or spirits. There might be exceptions when it comes to global
catastrophes, but personal or family problems are always caused by someone. If the individual or the
clan cannot find personal faults that would justify a correction from the ancestors, witchcraft is
suspected. The offender is someone known because these powers do not function anonymously. There
has to be contact between the witch and the victim.
Characteristics of a Witch
Shorter defines witchcraft as the inborn power to harm others secretly and unjustifiably. This mean,
there is no reason, it shows that witches harm randomly because they are driven to do so. According to
Magesa, they operate psychically and project from the mind their powers on the victim. There is no
rite preformed or spell uttered. Magesa draw a dichotomy between a sorcerer and a witch thereby
states, The use

  • 2. Reaction Paper On Octopi I have been fascinated by the intelligence and resourcefulness shown by octopi for the past few weeks since I went scuba diving. The main purpose of this trip was to be able to learn more about octopi in their natural habitat, as I had been given an assignment regarding the morality of consuming octopi. I was given the opportunity to fully observe the complexity of octopi in their natural habitat. I realized these animals capabilities people fear these almost harmless animals? In the past, I truly enjoyed the savory taste of a variety of octopus inspired meals. Many people disregard the octopus, giving it little to no thought unless there is a debate for dinner. Thinking of it as another average creature, as I did, with little to no intelligence, this is a common misconception that is meant to give some kind of justification when consuming the animal. In reality, octopi are one of the most intelligent species, having highly developed sentient characteristics. The more research I did regarding the octopus, the more my personal moral dilemma shifted to the support of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I noticed a tremendous change in the way octopi were viewed in Japan, China, and Korea food and more food, along with an occasional natural or cartoony picture of an octopus. On the other hand, I was pleased to see that the creature is more respected in western society, not thought of as food or childish cartoons. Most pictures found in the English language are more serious, showing octopi in their natural state; sadly the same cannot be said for the lobster. Many restaurants in western society cause the octopus unimaginable amounts of pain, some even provide the octopus still alive, to be devoured by the participant; giving the octopus more than enough time to realize it s soon to end ... • 3. The Effect Of Temperature On The Pressure Of A Tennis Ball Pressure and temperature, two important subjects in the broad system of knowledge, Science. It is true that temperature greatly affects the pressure of a tennis ball; temperature can increase and reduce pressure of a tennis ball, depending on the heat added or taken away; this would benefit people designing objects to absorb shock. A good example of this would be, when designing buildings to survive in areas where earthquakes happen frequently. What is the effect of temperature on pressure? That is the question that will be answered in this document of inquiry. A normal tennis ball has a rubber core occupied with a gas that is composed of unorganized molecules or atoms that move around freely. Molecules of a gas can effortlessly expand and contract. When the ball hits the ground, the force causes the ball s bottom surface in, and the gas in the core constricts. The gas then springs up when the ball becomes its usual shape, causing the tennis ball to bounce up. The height of a tennis ball s bounce is determined by the pressure of the gas in the ball s core. Pressure of a gas can be found with this equation: pressure =density × temperature × constant At a higher temperature, there is more pressure (if there isn t a single change in density and constant); at a lower temperature, there will be less pressure. When temperature rises, the ball s gas molecules expand; when gas molecules expand, the molecules bounce irregularly due to an increase in energy. When temperature drops, ... • 4. The Legendary Musician, Ray Charles Robinson Essay The Legendary Musician, Ray Charles Robinson Ray Charles Robinson was born on September 23, 1930 in Albany Georgia. His father was Bailey Robinson, a railroad repair man, and his mother was Retha. His father never married his mother. His legal wife was Mary Jane, who also helped to raise Charles. By the time he was three, young Charles was learning to play the piano. When he was five his brother, who was three at the time, drowned. A few months later Charles got the disease that would make him go blind by the time he was seven. After he became totally blind at the age of seven, Charles went to a school for the blind in St. Augustine, Florida, where he learned to play the trumpet, the saxophone, the clarinet, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After a numerous amount of months, a record producer noticed him and Charles had his first album: Confession Blues. Afterward Charles went on the road for a few years. He played at bars around the country. It was known by musicians as the chitlin circuit. Soon Charles stopped imitating other musicians, as he had been doing up until this point, and began to combine gospel and rhythm and blues, and, in doing so, created soul. He is still called the Genius of Soul today. In 1955 Charles made recorded I ve Got a Women , and made history. It helped pave the way for soul for years to come. In the 1960 s Charles recorded I Can t Stop Loving You (a piece of country music) with a large orchestra and his own voice. This song, like his others, was loved by the American people. Unfortunately, in the 1940 s Charles became addicted to heroin, and in 1964 he was arrested for it. While he was awaiting his trial he went to an award ceremony in which his son, Ray Jr. was receiving an award. He had to leave before his son received his award, so Ray Jr. cried. Charles, seeing this, realized that his son would be very hurt if someone yelled out that Charles was a drug addict, so he went to the hospital and went cold turkey on drugs. After a year, he was over the addiction. Charles is a man of extremes. He was impatient, and he would not listen to complaints. When he was happy, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of The Documentary Armadillo Essay The Dutch documentary Armadillo (2010) directed by Janus Metz Pedersen takes its audience into the world of the platoon of Dutch soldiers as they complete a tour of duty in Afghanistan against the Taliban. Majority of the dialogue in the film was spoken in Dutch, as well as Arabic spoken by the Afghanistan citizens, the use of English subtitles translated for understanding. The documentary begins with 4 men and then the introduction of other comrades, the documentary moves forward as the actions and effects of war is put into focus. This is some of the few decisions made by the film maker, as the message intended for the audience is made through the structure decided by the director. The narrative structure of a documentary can be explained through several modes that can be present within the documentary. Modes include Actuality, Expository, Observational, Rhetoric and Participatory. The use of camera work, editing, and sound can help with the narration and better understanding of the overall documentary. All of the modes, supported by the use of visual and oral techniques, help the director express his perspective of the Dutch troop duty tour of the Afghanistan and the intended message. Actuality mode of the documentary emphasises the importance of realism and facts within the footage. The purpose is to expose the audience to the real world, or some would say the harsh truth which in the case of Armadillo, is the war and violence present. A scene in that was edited to ... Women s Exploitation Of Women The exploitation of women in production, and the exclusion of women from consumption is not the only ways in which the female body is harmed as a result of the globalization of the fashion industry. Perhaps the most obvious occurrence of female body harm in the fashion industry is a result of fashion modeling. An up close look into the modeling industry as a microcosm of the fashion industry reveals the severe objectification and commodification of fashion models for the sake of consumption. The modeling industry has created a culture of exclusion across genders and races. Author Ashley Mears (2010) critically analyses the fashion industry, and how it influences production of culture and beauty ideals around the world. The modeling world is extremely female dominated, and the women who participate are continually commodified as they are used as a means to promote and disseminate ideas of how women should look, (p. 23). Because consumption is valued so in today s society, the model is employed based on her perceived ability to sell a product. The clothes she is hired to wear and the beauty ideal that she is helping sell are more important than her humanity, and she becomes dehumanized. Clothes take on such utmost importance that models are and should be mere clothes hangers, with perfectly discrete bodies that will display the clothes but not detract from them, (Mears, 2010, p. 35). A Discussion On Locke s Distinction Between Primary And Secondary Qualities And Berkeley s Opposition Moved by a desire to end skepticism and provide proof for the existence of God, Berkeley defended that the root of all of the former is the belief that there are mind independent matters. Much different than his immaterialist view, John Locke developed a philosophy in advances to an apparently natural form of realism, in where material matters are in existences, but also independently of our minds. As mentioned previously, one of the most known objections to the distinction of primary and secondary qualities was raised by George Berkeley. Differently than Locke, who was a metaphysical dualist, Berkeley was an immaterialist. His philosophy defended that all objects are strictly fragments of our minds: All that exists are minds and their ideas . As Locke defines secondary qualities as ideas in our minds caused by objects in the real world, it follows that central to Berkeley s objection is the idea that secondary qualities are strictly in our minds, using it to argue that primary qualities must also be products of our minds rather than of objects in the world. In his words, That the qualities we perceive are not on the objects: that we must not believe our senses: that we know nothing of the real nature of things, and can never be assured even of their existence: that real colours and sounds are nothing but certain unknown figures and motions:. . . these are the strange notions which . . . embarrass the mind with endless doubts and difficulties. And it is against these. . . I endeavor to vindicate common sense . Berkeley argued that secondary qualities are only ideas in our mind, therefore so are primary qualities. For him, there cannot be ideas that exist independent of a mind, as well as no things existing that are not ideas. Reinforced by Philonous, There are only things perceiving, and things perceived; ... • 15. Dna Testing And The Criminal Justice System Convictions prior to the advancement of DNA testing in the criminal justice system were commonly found to be later wrongful and due to eyewitness misidentification (Scheck Neufeld, 2001). Hence, there has been increasing research by psychologists in eyewitness memory and particularly in line up practices. In criminal identification, a simultaneous line up (SIM) is typically used and involves presenting the witness with all line up suspects at once with the offender (target) placed amongst other innocent suspects (foils) that resemble the offender (Wells Olsen, 2003). With these conditions, witnesses have a tendency to compare suspects with each other in order to determine the one that have the closest resemblance with the offender, a process called relative judgement (Steblay, Dysart, Fulero Lindsay, 2001). In the simultaneous line ups with target present, there are more hits as the closest resemblance is the perpetrator but while in target absent conditions, the closest matching foil is often picked and resulting in more false alarms (Steblay, Dysart, Fulero Lindsay, 2001). Therefore, to prevent the potential of misidentification, alternative line up presentations have been developed to inhibit relative judgement processes such as sequential line up in Lindsay and Wells (1985). Sequential line ups (SEQ) involves presenting a line up of photos in a sequential format and eyewitnesses can only view the photo once and must determined whether the photo matches the ... • 20. Summary Of Muse Des Beaux Arts In large cities, there are lots of homeless. People with pleas for help, but almost never receive. How could so many passersby not help them? In the poem Musée des Beaux Arts , Auden argues that humans lack empathy for strangers. He uses examples of people acquiescing to others suffering to support his point. Auden complements those examples with a variety of literary methods to make allowing other to suffer seem natural, and be persuasive. Auden uses various persuasive elements throughout Musée des Beaux Arts to convince the reader that people do not empathize with strangers. His main tools are the literary devices of irony, enjambment, and rhyme. Auden primarily uses irony to prove that humans have no empathy for strangers. For example, at the end of the first stanza, he writes, . . . the torturer s horse/ scratches its innocent behind on a tree (12 13). The torturer s horse is indifferent to what his master is doing, which enables him to remain innocent. The irony that a torturer s horse is innocent conveys that if one ignores others suffering, one could remain happy in a cruel world. Irony puts extra emphasis on these lines and Auden demonstrates that this belief is central to his argument. The way that it is introduced also adds to the efficacy of persuasion. By making a simple analogy, he demonstrates his faith in his belief. Confidence makes for a more convincing argument, so Auden makes his poem even more persuasive. Additionally, the simplicity makes the conclusion come logically to most people. To add on to his logos, in the next stanza he says, Something amazing, a boy falling out of the sky,/ [The ship] Had somewhere to get to and sailed calmly on (20 21). Auden alludes to the painting The Fall of Icarus which depicts Icarus s death in the sea. In this painting, nothing acknowledges his death. The connection here demonstrates that while this event may initially appear to be tragic, but Icarus is insignificant in the grand scheme of things. On the other hand, Amazing has a very positive connotation and contrasts with the general mood of the poem. The irony that a boy s death is amazing is shocking; however, once the initial shock fades and thought is put in, the logic of the rest of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The preeminent feature of organizational activity is its programmed character: behavior is an enactment of (more or less) pre established routines: At any given time, a government consists of existing organizations, each with a fix set of standard operating procedures and programs. The behavior of these organization and consequently of the government is therefore, determine primarily by routines established in these organizations prior to that instance . (Allison 1971: 81) The more standardized these procedures are, the less discretionary is to carry them out. The downside is that responses may become less appropriate to surprising and non expected events. The 27F crisis is a suitable case to analyze the performance of a large scale organization like the State and its patterns of response to external problems. Allison s model establishes that to perform complex routines, the behavior of a large number of individuals must be coordinated and that such coordination requires standard operating procedures: rules that determine what/how things are done. I will add that SORs never self generated but depends on leaders that decided which organizations, what programs and where to proceed. Hence, reliable performance of action that depends upon the behavior of hundreds of persons requires well established programs (Allison, 1971). In this case, there was a protocol in place that clearly indicated those responsible for gathering, analyzing and communicating the information. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I am now classified as slabs 7 and 8, I am 465 cm, and I am made of gypsum alabaster. On my front side is a low relief of my king, Ashurnasirpal II. He is wearing the royal crown, which is a conical cap with a small peak and a long diadem. He also holds a bow, which is a symbol of his authority, and a ceremonial bowl. Facing him is a eunuch, or a beardless one . He is carrying a fly whisk and a ladle for replenishing the royal vessel. The upper parts of the body are facing towards the viewer, while the legs, feet, arms, and face are shown from the side. These features, along with the shape of the eyes seem to resemble Egyptian art. There are distinct patterns in the beards and hair of the king and the attendant. Also, the muscles in the arms and legs are clearly defined within the relief. Both the king and the attendant are dressed in long robes, and are carrying swords at their sides. Both are also wearing earrings, and bands around their wrists and upper arms. Flowing across the middle of the relief is actual writing. This writing describes what is being shown on my relief. • 27. The Gangster Film Genre Of The Mafia The gangster film genre is a subgenre of the crime film, dealing with organized crime and more often than not, the Mafia. Though gangster films have their root in the silent era, the genre became widely popular in the 1930 s Hollywood Studio era, which is characterized by the Hollywood Genre System. Genre films offered economic advantages, including the repeated use of standardized themes, elements, characters and iconography. Additionally, genre films were easily marketable, as audiences knew what to expect from each genre. If a viewer enjoyed one film from a particular genre, they were likely to enjoy any other film falling into that genre. Specific themes and elements can be readily identified in gangster films. For one, they commonly question the meaning of success and failure in terms of the American dream. Warshow asserts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 28. The Odyssey, By Homer, And The Inferno Ulysses in Hell The two epics The Odyssey, by Homer, and The Inferno, by Dante, both works have two different perspectives of the character Ulysses. The Odyssey is told from the ancient Greek perspective around 700BC, and The Inferno is told from a Christian point of view in 1300AD. Both epics are written nearly 2000 years apart from each other. What set apart the ideals of both epics are the Pagan warrior perspective in Homer s epic and the Christian Europe perspective in Dante s epic. The controversial topic is what makes Ulysses a hero in The Odyssey and what makes him one of the world s greatest sinners in The Inferno? In The Odyssey, Odysseus or Ulysses, is considered a hero. Odysseus portrays all the qualities of a hero in this epic. He portrays courage, wisdom, and endurance throughout the work, which makes up the qualities of a Pagan warrior s idea of a hero. Zeus says Great Odysseus who excels all men in wisdom, excels in offerings too he gives the immortal gods who rule the vaulting skies? (Ody. 1.78 80). When speaking about Odysseus, he describes him as wise. Odysseus uses wisdom in the various obstacles he crosses on his journey home. Wisdom is all about knowing who you truly are and where you are going. This means denying temptation and not forgetting where you are going. On his journey home, he must turn down, possibly one of the greatest temptations, which is immortality. In hopes of keeping Odysseus with her, and not leaving to return home she says ... The novel follows Clarissa Dalloway and a variety of other characters throughout the span of one day in their lives in 1923 London. Woolf utilizes a narrative method of writing. With the novel s structure, the narrator possesses the ability to move inside of a character s mind and compose her thoughts and emotions immediately as events occur throughout the day. Rather than hold lengthy conversations between characters, she frequently writes only of small talk and leaves more serious topics to be recited in an individual s exclusive thoughts. One of her purposes in writing the novel is to expose the hypocrisy of society. The characters in the novel range from eccentric acquaintances to extravagant lords and ladies to vindictive tutors to suicidal veterans. One example of this theme occurs when Rezia and Septimus attempt to settle down in the park. When the airplane soars overhead, she writes, Tears ran down his cheeks (Woolf 21). While one may mistake this as joy or, at worst, sorrow over the recent war, Woolf gives the reality of the action beneath the surface, stating, They are signaling to me... this exquisite beauty... but he would not go mad. He would see no more (21). While Septimus dwindles on the brink of insanity, Rezia chatters away about nature, unaware of the mess resting beside her. Septimus portrays the appearance of one man yet expresses an entirely new persona through his contemplations. Another instance of the theme transpires when Miss Kilman and Clarissa wait for Elizabeth to retrieve her gloves before going shopping. Clarissa and Kilman both make attempts at small talk. The issue hasn t been this big until recent years, which I plan to look into. Human trafficking has become such a huge industry not only in Haiti, but also through the whole world causing it to have such a huge impact on global politics. What I plan to investigate is how the issue of human trafficking affects global politics in a whole. Before going too deep into this issue, everyone should understand what human trafficking is. Human trafficking is the illegal movement of people, typically for the purposes of forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation. This may include providing a spouse in a forced marriage or the extraction of organs or tissues. Yuri Fedotov, the head of the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime, said, At any one time, 2.4 million people suffer the misery of this humiliating and degrading crime. It is estimated that only one out of 100 victims of trafficking are ever rescued.
