Similarities Between A Thousand Splendid Suns And...
THE FATALITY OF LOVE IS AN INNEVITABLE FACET TO HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS
Trauma and tragedy are inevitably regular and pervasive outcomes in romantic literature. Our
literary heritage is filled with heartbreak, failed relationships and broken individuals. Wuthering
Heights and Khaled Hosseini s A Thousand Splendid Suns both exhibit broken relationships,
through a backdrop of conflict in swar torn Afghanistan and the restrictions of Victorian social
hierarchy played out on the wild and windswept North York Moors destroying these implied
impervious bonds. 1. LACK OF CONTROL OVER MARRIAGES In both novels we experience
a high sense of the women lacking in control, one significant being the lack of control over their
marriages. The culture of set societal rules and conventions urges Catherine to be with Edgar,
compelling her to be the greatest woman of the neighbourhood due to them being relatively firm
in their gentry s status. This suggests the importance of her social status against the nature of her
love for Heathcliff stating, we would be beggars , through employing the word beggars the reader
crafts the idea of her belief that she won t survive without her status. Catherine admits It would
degrade me to marry Heathcliff now; so he shall never know how I love him Thus implying a
swelling sense of her vanity and pride; enough to enjoy the position she gains from being married
to Edgar despite her admiration for Heathcliff, being more than (herself) than (she is) and

Sentinal Fire Protection Ltd ( Sfp )
TITLE
BLANK
Summary
Sentinal Fire Protection Ltd (SFP) is a company that design and specialises in the design and
manufacture of fire detection and extinguishing systems for aircrafts. SFP have been tasked with
carrying out tests on a new fire extinguishant named Agent H3.
Due to the findings conducted in 1994 as per the Montreal Protocol (a protocol to the Vienna
Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer), the commonly used fire extinguishing agent
Halon 1301 ceased production. Halon 1301 is a CFC (chlorofluorocarbon) gas, which the Montreal
Protocol concluded, had a tendency to significantly breakdown the earths ozone layer. The
termination of Halon 1301 prompted the need for a CFC free replacement fire extinguishing agent.
The replacement extinguishant, Agent H3 was tested by SFP under controlled conditions which
simulated a bulk load cargo fire inside a compartment with a volume of 58m3. The effectiveness of
Agent H3 was constantly monitored through thermocouples and data loggers. It s efficiency as a
fire suppressant was based on two criterion set by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), the
temperature acceptance criterion and the maximum time/temp criterion, with the outcome of a
lower result being more effective. These results would then be compared with the known results of
Halon 1301 being subjected to the same tests.
The results concluded that Agent H3

Informative Essay On Ufos
Reports of an alien UFO being intercepted by jet fighters have circulated the Internet. Residents
of an otherwise quiet English town were awoken to blasting jet engines earlier this month. Jet
fighters from a nearby military base scrambled toward the English coast to intercept what was
said to be a UFO. The UFO was reported by fisherman to have risen from the water. The flight
tracking of the jets showed that they were circling something. But the government reported that
it was not a UFO, but an Air France flight. New footage on YouTube taken by fisherman tell a
different story. UFO Dives Into Sea A recent YouTube video shows footage from a fishing boat
capturing jets and a helicopter circling a UFO. The YouTube channel Christopher Stokes
published the footage on May 25. It shows jets and a helicopter attempting to make contact with
a UFO before it dives into the sea. The fishermen are of course hysterical as the booming engines
of the jets buzz by before the UFO simply disappears into the water. A helicopter than does a
flyby, and the footage ends. Could this be real footage? If so, how did they get it off the boat?
Have those fishermen been assassinated? A Hoax or Possibly Real? The footage of the jets,
helicopter, and UFO is definitely suspicious. It is fuzzy, pixelated, and the UFO isn t to clear. One
odd feature of the footage is that the UFO... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Power Of Language In Animal Farm, By George Orwell
The power of language dominates the minds of the characters in Animal Farm by George
Orwell, as they embark on a journey to rebellion. In the novel, Orwell assigns devious tactics to
the animals that they use to reflect on the power of language. Not only does the author use
propaganda to reflect the power of language, but he also adds a disposition of persuasiveness.
Orwell incorporates power of language by having characters, like Squealer, integrate many
different forms of propaganda. Another way that power of language is used in this novel is
persuasion by the lead animals on the farm. The author uses these tactics to reflect on the power
of language, in order to show the importance of words. To begin with, George Orwell
consistently includes methods of propaganda, meaning government communications to the
public that are designed to influence opinion. This is seen a lot throughout Animal Farm, with it
s purpose being to emphasize the power of language. He does so by having characters, like
Squealer, use many slick tactics while performing speeches to the animals. When declaring that
the pigs were keeping the milk and apples to themselves, Squealer uses not one, but two great
forms of propaganda. Those two being distraction tactics and appeals to authority. Squealer
explained, Many of us actually dislike milk and apples. I dislike them myself! Our sole object in
taking these things is to preserve our health. Milk and apples (and this has been proved by
Science, comrades) contain substances absolutely necessary to the well being of a pig (35). In this
speech, Squealer brings up science, or appeals to authority to prove his point, when really, there is
no actual evidence that the pigs absolutely need milk and apples. Appeals to authority is the act of
claiming that something must be true because it is believed by someone who is said to be an
authority on the subject. Orwell incorporates this tactic by having Squealer mention that the facts
he uses are from an authority on the subject. What the animals don t suspect is that Squealer never
proves that the information is factual. He also turns the table and informs the animals that the pigs
aren t getting milk and apples because they want to or like them, it s

The Best Method Of Protecting A Television Show By The...
Intro
The purpose of this paper is to determine the best method to protect a television show created by
the Trio. The Trio has created a TV show loosely based off of their own experiences at University
and the final years of school. Alongside this, the trio has developed a range of complementary
products to go alongside this, such as memorabilia, t shirts, caps, and mugs. The Trio has all
played significant roles in the development and production of the Pilot Episode. The Trio are now
eager to share the TV show with the world. As their primary demographic is 14 24 year olds, they
intend to distribute their show on an online platform. The Trio is also concerned about how to
protect their IP to ensure that they can continue creating. This paper will examine the different
methods of protection available to the Trio, as well as determine which would be of the most
benefit to them.
Intellectual Property and Copyright
First of all it is important to establish what Intellectual Property (IP) is a creation of the mind.
There are two types of IP that protect a range of different creations. The two categories are
Industrial Property and Copyright. Industrial Property is concerned with the commercial based
creations such as patents, trademarks, and industrial designs. Copyright protects literary works such
as films, music, artistic works, and Television. Copyright is granted automatically, there is no need

Genetic And Genomic Education And Practice In Nursing
Genetic and Genomic Education and Practice in Nursing
The Human Genome Project launched in 1990 and marked the start of an evolutionary change in
healthcare. Medicine has made great advancements following the completion of the Human
Genome Project (HGP) in 2003. In addition to these advancements, the scope of practice for nurses
is continuously changing and expanding. There is a growing emphasis on genetic literacy in the
nursing profession. In the era of personalized medicine, registered nurses are now expected to be
knowledgeable and skilled in genetics and genomics, regardless of academic preparation. The
American Nurses Association (ANA) and the International Society of Nursing Genetics (ISONG)
have published collaborative resources defining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal of obtaining the genetic family history is to identify the potential risks for serious health
conditions. Early identification of health risk s can allow for a more individualized and focused
nursing care plan, including lifestyle behavior modifications. The following are two brief examples
that demonstrate the significance of gathering a detailed family history, matched with genetic
knowledge:
A nurse learns that a patient s parent died at a young age from colon cancer. The nurse would
recognize that the patient and any siblings are at risk for familial adenomatous polyposis, a
familial cancer syndrome (Lea, Skirton, Read , Williams, 2011).
A patient is scheduled for surgery. The nurse knows surgery presents several immediate health risks.
It would be important to question if there is any personal or family history of malignant
hyperthermia (MH). Malignant hypothermia is a potentially fatal inheritable condition that a
patient can present with following general anesthesia (Quigley,

The Pros And Cons Of Disabilities
The only disability in life is a bad attitude Scott Hamilton. People who are born physically
impaired do not let that define them or hold them back from being happy. Although, some may say
people with disabilities are treated equally even though they are handicapped, they are wrong.
Handicapped people are treated differently through social interactions because they are
Handicapped. People s physical disabilitywill vary in everyone.
The word handicapped is first recorded in the late 19th century in the sense referring to a person s
mental or physical disabilities. In British English it was the standard term until the 1980s, but it has
been superseded by disabled, or, in reference to mental disability, expressions such as having
learning difficulties or learning disabled. In American English handicapped is still sometimes used,
especially in phrases such as handicapped accessible and handicapped parking. The International
Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) defines disability as an umbrella term
for impairments, activity limitations and participation restrictions. Disability is the interaction
between individuals with a health condition (e.g. cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and depression)
and personal and environmental factors (e.g. negative attitudes, inaccessible transportation and
public buildings, and limited social supports). People have different ways of explaining and
knowing what disability really means.

The Philosophy Of Adult Learning And Methods Of Delivery
Introduction The demands of today s society require that many professionals continue to learn
throughout their careers in order to maintain relevancy in a quickly changing world. Educators also
face the growing demand for accountability as they prepare students for a future that cannot be
predicted. With this pressure for change and accountability, practicing educators seek effective and
efficient ways to modify their curriculum and to improve instruction and assessment strategies that
will allow their students to succeed now and in the future. Educators learn informally on a daily
basis as they interact with their students and peers and formally through learning experiences
initiated either internally by the teacher or externally by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of these principles are based upon elements of andragogical practice. For example, one of
the core elements of andragogy is self directed learning which is now incorporated at some level
in many models of effective professional learning for teachers. However, self direction and
other andragogical principles are often ignored or diminished because of ignorance of adult
learning principles or due to limitations of resources such as time, finances, and expertise. For
example, Webster Wright (2009) noted that the decontextualization of professional learning
reinforces a perceived division between what is learned by the teacher and what is actually put
into practice in the classroom. Because of limited exposure to the principles and application of
adult learning, teachers and principals possess varying levels of knowledge of andragogy and of
self directedness. This limitation impacts educator satisfaction with professional learning that is
based on principles of andragogy and principles of effective professional learning. This literature
review will consider the impact of professional learning on the practices of teachers and on student
achievement. The review will also research current common practices of professional learning
utilized by school districts as well as principles of effectiveness for professional learning for
teachers. The Johnson Effectiveness of Professional Learning 3

What Is The Theme Of The Palm Wine Drunkard
The Palm wine Drinkard is a short story that follows a man whose life was centered on the
drinking of palm wine and with the help of his palm wine tapster, he could drink as much as he
wanted together with his friends. His tapster finally dies after falling from a tall palm tree whilst
tapping palm wine. The man who is referred to as the palm winedrunkard buries the body of his
tapster and embarks on a very long journey to find him in the land of the dead, which reveals
various supernatural encounters throughout his journey. Although the author masterfully uses
magical realism, personification, simile and irony to vividly tell the story of the drunkard, the
improper poor use of proper grammar surprisingly made the text more understandable to read.
The setting of this story is not clearly disclosed but from the author s choice of words like the
use of juju , traveling from bushes to bushes and native blacksmiths , there is a clear depiction of
a typical African village setting. In the story, the author seeks to create a picture of a world of
traditional mythologies in the mind of the reader, where human beings easily mingle with beings
from the spiritual world. The author also presents a world where ... Show more content on

The point within the story where the drunkard turned into a bird, death commanding the strings of
a drum to tie the drunkard and also the Drinkard commanding the ropes of yam to tie him whilst

drunkard claimed he was the Father of the gods who could do everything in this world and yet
still, he spent all his time consulting various characters where he could find his dead tapster
creates some irony at this point. But at a point in the story, there is also evidence that he is indeed
the Father of the gods since he was able to capture death and turn into a bird at a

The Importance Of Western Culture And Punjabi Culture
A constant struggle of incorporating western mentality and remaining true to my Punjabi culture
has been at the root of many dilemmas throughout my life and has caused me to engender my
own set of values, which reflect a unique blend of western culture and Punjabi culture. As a future
marriage and family therapist who will be assessing a diverse population, I foresee this
amalgamation becoming an issue when I receive clients who come from a similar background and
have a certain expectation of what I should say, or when I receive clients who come from a
different background and have different values than I do. If one is not consciously aware of these
values and biases, then it is very likely that these concerns will impede the therapeutic relationship
and the work of the therapist. For instance, Punjabi culture emphasizes parents sacrificing their own
happiness for their children s happiness, which can be seen via parents not getting a divorce for a
child s happiness. I have seen the latter occur many times, even in instances where the parents
cannot stand one another. Growing up I understood this mentality, because I had witnessed my
American friends going through turmoil when finding out their parents were getting a divorce. At
the time, I believed that the parents were selfish, that they were not considering what this would do
to their child. Additionally, my familyhad also pushed forth this value in our home, even in
instances where my aunts were living with alcoholic

The Life of Britney Spears Essay
I have selected Britney Spears as my subject for the reason that I realize that she has been
through so much in her life and has a tendency to convey her emotions radically and live life on
the edge most of the times. Moreover, I find it simply fascinating to scrutinize Britney Spears
personality by means of the Psychoanalysis so as to offer deeper comprehension in investigating
her personality. Even though this process of personality analysis is hardly ever employed today
due to a deficiency of empirical verification and a disappointment to deal with any adulthood impact

Freedom, Without Qualification Is An Important Piece Of ``...
Freedom is such an important piece of Americana that everyone, inside or outside of the United
States, believes they know what the word means; yet when asked to define it, the word retreats
to the abstract nothingness of intangible shadows. Freedom s complicated nature becomes an
important topic when comparing the free and enslaved black women in three antebellum
narratives: Harriet Jacobs s Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Melton A. McLaurin s Celia, a
Slave, and Harriet E. Wilson s Our Nig. Freedom is obviously preferable to enslavement this fact is
indisputable. Millions of male and female slaves risked their lives to escape slavery; no free person
of color wanted to be enslaved. However, merely saying freedom without qualification is a
misnomer, for it is not a monolithic idea. The United States did not have a single group of free
people free Black women were (and still are) treated differently from White women. Thus, the
debate of whether free women of color and female slaves were more different than similar is a
question of whether slavery, which differentiated free women of color from female slaves, was
more pervasive than racism, which separated free women of color and White females. By
comparing externalist and internalist methods of understanding freedom namely, freedom from
violence and free will between White women, free women of color and enslaved women, this paper
concludes that racism trumped the differences created by slavery. The idea that

Essay On How To Strain Your Transmission
As you start to embrace the summer heat and head off on short day trips and long road trips,
make sure your vehicle is ready to handle the heat. Your vehicle s transmission is what provides it
with the power it needs to switch gears and keep you moving down the road. Summer driving
activities can take a tool on your transmission, which is why you need to make sure that your

Summer Activities That Can Strain Your Transmission

Steps To Take To Protect Your Transmission In The Summer
In order to make sure that your vehicle can handle all of the conditions listed above, you need to
make sure that the fluid is clean and full.
You can do this by opening the hood of your vehicle and finding the cap to your transmission.
Make sure you only open it when your vehicle is cool; the liquid inside your transmission can get
very hot and could burn you if you open the cap when your engine is still hot.
Look at the fill line and see if your transmission needs more fluid. Pull out the dipstick and
examine the fluid. It should be a clear pinkish red color and it should not have any debris in it
nor should it really have an odor. If is is a different color, has debris in the fluids, or smells funky,
you need to take your vehicle in and have your transmission flushed.
If the fluid looks alright, but the levels are a little low, all you need to do is top off your
transmission fluid. You can purchase the appropriate transmission fluid and a funnel at a local auto
parts store; just provide them with the make and model of your vehicle and they will find the
correct transmission fluid for

Consequentialism Vs Deontological Analysis
To analyze the dilemma one must understand how a consequentialist and a deontological would
come to their conclusions. A basic difference is the consequentialist would believe the end justifies
the means. A deontologist would conclude that irrespective of outcomes, the method or means
should conform to a stricture or rule set.
The consequentialist is focused on the consequences of the action. If the end result provides more
good than bad, they would conclude the action justifies the end result. To make a conclusion the
consequentialist would ask; who will be affected by the action, who would benefit from performing
the action, who would be harmed by performing the action, who would benefit from not performing
the action, who would be harmed by not performing the action. The consequentialist would then
make a decision based on were the most good would be derived. One of the most well known
practices of the consequentialist theory is Utilitarianism which is focused the the better good for
society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the action itself is deemed inappropriate, then the action should not be performed regardless of
how beneficial the outcome would be. To determine if an action should be taken or not, a
deontological minded person would compare the performance of the action to a set of internal or
external rule sets, asking if others with this rule set would find the decision acceptable or not. If it
is determined that most with a similar rule set would find the action unacceptable then the action
would not be taken regardless of the benefits of the outcome. Kantianism is a well known
deontological theory, where it is believed that action are not measured by their outcome, but rather,
by what motivated the individual taking the

Today you would be lucky to even know your neighbors names. The term love thy neighbor as
you love yourself is not really relevant anymore. Why? You see in today s society we only feel
the need to associate ourselves with people that can potentially help us. We are so focused on what
we can get out of people that we no longer value each other.
We have become so self indulgent that it has this have become the norm, so much that for us we
are unaware of when we are doing it. Recently my Uncle called me and asked me how I was
doing, as we further ventured into our conversation, he asked me if I could ask my coach to let
him rent the gym. Although he called me, he really did not want to know how I was he wanted
me to do a favor for him. He only asked how I was doing because it was the polite thing to do.
Oddly enough you would think that the one group of people who are supposed to honestly care
for you would be your family. Even your family is not exempt from this behavior. They find ways
to use you for things rather than to see how you are doing, and getting to know you. Often times
we are victims of this, we do things like this unconsciously, and we use people rather than building
a relationship with them. We neglect what we are actually doing and we continue to operate with
selfish motives and are blind to the fact that we are actually doing it.

Automatic Fire Sprinkler System Essay
The automatic fire sprinkler system was one of the earliest sprinkler systems placed into effect.
The origin of the modern day automatic sprinkler system dates back to the early 1800 s. The first
automatic sprinkler system was created in England in the 1806 by John Carey. It consisted of a
pipe with valves held closed by counterweights attached by string. When flames burned through
the string the counterweight dropped to the floor, which opened the valve that released the water
and extinguished the fire. As the 1800 s progressed, the basic pipe system for sprinklers was
becoming more prevalent across England. It began to pop up in textile mills all through out the
country. In 1864, as sprinkler system use grew, Major Stewart Harrison of... Show more content on

Not only does this cool what ever material is heated, but it can pre cool any materials that are not
yet heated or involved in the fire. This helps prevent the spread of that fire through the structure
saving the structure and protecting its contents from further fire and water damage. Although the
automatic sprinkler system is the most widely used type of fire protection system, it does have
its limitations and uses inside certain building types. As previously stated, it is generally used in
commercial buildings. This is because there are usually no special hazardous materials in these
buildings, or any large quantity of materials that would react negatively with the application of
water. It is installed in buildings such as hospitals, schools, and office buildings for life safety
first, then building preservation. Since a proper functioning sprinkler system will reduce the fire
size and prevent its spread, it will allow for more time of evacuation for these buildings. This is
especially useful in hospitals and nursing home settings where there may be a large number of
immobile people that require time to move to a more safe location. The automatic sprinkler system
is also used in buildings such as warehouses. It is used here due to the large amount of combustible
material that goes along with mass storage.

Application Of A Personal Information Manager
A personal information manager, also referred to by the acronym (PIM) is briefly described as
any program or software used to manage a user s personal information (Heater, 2006). There are
numerous amount of PIM software available through virtual application stores, and on the internet.
Some PIM programs are: Kontact, Evolution, and Lotus notes etc. (Overa, 2009). The PIM can be
compared to a journal or a diary, because it knows all of your furtive information (Heater, 2006). It
also has knowledge of some of the individuals that you may communicate with, and your daily
appointments and meetings.
Microsoft has always been the leading solution to some of our work and office electronically
related issues, it also provides alternative solutions (Heater, 2006). The aspect of personal
information manager revolves around the Microsoft Outlook calendar and task managing options
(Heater, 2006).Instead of hiring a personal assistant to manage your daily activities, to include:
meetings, doctor appointments, and other events, it would be cheaper to invest in personal
information manager software ((Heater, 2006). For those individuals that spend an extensive
amount of time working with computers, it is very easy for them to get affix to a PIM program
that works best for them (Heater, 2006).

allows organizations to adapt and change the way they conduct business in order to remain
competitive. Internal analysis obtains information from financials, operational and marketing
departments to help management determine strategic planning for future growth. In this paper the
author will discuss an internal analysis of Kraft Foods.

Intellectual Resources
Intellectual resources encompass the collective knowledge of the organization that is gained
overtime through experience and education (Xaxx, n.d.). Kraft Foods has a very diverse portfolio
which includes ownership of numerous patents worldwide which covers basic packaging
techniques to processes relating to specific products and the products themselves (Kraft Foods,
2014). These patents protect the unique products of Kraft Foods that distinguish them from their
competitors.
Goodwill
Kraft Foods is a household name that has been around for over 100 years providing consumers
with quality products they demand (Kraft Foods, 2014). Conducting research on trends and
demands has generated trust, respect and goodwill from their consumers allowing Kraft Foods to
become number two in the food industry (Kraft Foods). In addition to goodwill Kraft Foods has
developed strategic alliances with extremely powerful customer, i.e. Wal Mart, which account for
23% of their total net revenues (Kraft Foods Financial Report, 2013). Kraft Foods understands that
the loss of these relationships will generate decreased sales, financial position and operating results

Intellectual Heritage and Its Impact on Entrepreneurship
Intellectual Heritage and its Impact on Entrepreneurship: Academia and the Indian Focus on
Intellect and Community In beginning to understand the concept of intellectual heritage in the
context of entrepreneurship, I need look no further than my immediate and extended family.
Coming from a long line of academic scholars, a palpable focus on leadership, community and
the quest for excellence have been consistently pushed in my family, and this focus has led to a
continuous breeding of like minded, well educated, community savvy entrepreneurs. In my
family, academia and a connection to knowledge have run through the generations much like
brown hair or blue eyes may run through the family of another, and because of the abundance of
similarly driven individuals, sharing considerable goals and the means to attain them, much of
my family has branched out from academia into the world of entrepreneurship in order to better
themselves, their families, and the respective communities around them. Much of my family
comes from India, a nation where dedication, hard work, education, community, religion and
family are valued above all else. Hearing the call to achieve these standards, many in my family
were called early on into the field of academia and have remained vital fixtures in this field for
many years. However, with academia comes a quest for ever increasing knowledge, and perhaps
the most valuable way to attain this knowledge is to move from the page to the real world in

Comparing Tokyo Drifter And Yimou s Hero
In both Seijun Suzuki s Tokyo Drifter (1966) and Zhang Yimou s Hero (2002), the directors
expand on traditional genres specifically the yakuza and the wuxia film. The directors broaden the
genres in both a thematic and aesthetic manner, but at the same time, the directors still remain
loyal to the specific genres ideological basises and visual style. In the first scene of Tokyo Drifter,
Suzuki expresses to his audience that his filmfaithful to the traditional yakuza film even though
throughout the movie, his aesthetics break away from the traditional and move into the modern
with his use of a mise en scene which is formed around Pop Art. Yimou works in a similar way

In the final scene, the king of the Qin state is forced by the elders to execute Nameless. Yimou
uses a powerful shot counter shot to display Nameless s honor and the king s questioning of this
decision through a wide angle extreme long shot of Nameless, which displays him standing
strong in the face of death, book ended by close ups on the king looking around with distress as
the elders chant orders to execute him because it is Qin law. When the king orders the execution,
Yimou takes advantage of CGI in order to create a beautiful death of flying arrows for the assassin,
and the wide angle shots of both the arrows flying through the sky and from behind the protagonist
embody the progression of the genre, which has come a long way since the early days when fights
were choreographed using wires and trampolines. The film finalizes its message about the
reunification of China through the text in the final shot of the film which finally reveals the king s
name, Qin Shi Huang, because until that shot, the idea of unified nation state... is still a dream but
with divulging of the king s name, the audience realizes this was the king, who did not want to
murder Nameless, would unify China, which creates a positive message pertaining to Chinese
reunification and totalitarianism. (Teo 191) Yimou takes advantage of technology to present the
honor of the knights errant, a traditional idea of wuxia, through the death of the Nameless but also
uses the final text to promote the future of China through its final reunification, which figuratively

Cold War Proxy War Essay
Due to how many countries in Africa were used in Cold War proxy wars, an important question is,
Which of the superpowers had a larger influence on Africa? And while the U.S.A. certainly did have
significant sway in Asia, mainly Korea and Vietnam, and in the Middle East in Afghanistan,
relatively, not much was spent, both financially and in a militaristic sense, in Africa. Similarly, the
U.S.S.R. was also spending the majority of their resources in Europeand Asia.
However, when examining where Cuba stood in Africa s proxy wars, one can see that a large
majority of communist and socialist factions in Africa were given aid by Cuba. Therefore, was
Cuba the most influential power in Africa during the Cold War? Or were the U.S.S.R and U.S.A....

Smaller expeditions were sent out by Cuba. In Ethiopia, Cuba followed the Soviet Union and other

Roughly thirty thousand African students travelled to Cuba to study at Cuban universities.

Essay on Christian Elements in Beowulf
Beowulf is one of the great heroic poems in English literature. The epic follows a courageous
warrior named Beowulf throughout his young, adult life and into his old age. As a young man,
Beowulf becomes a legendary hero when he saves the land of the Danes from the hellish creatures,
Grendel and his mother. Later, after fifty years pass, Beowulfis an old man and a great king of the
Geats. A monstrous dragon soon invades his peaceful kingdom and he defends his people
courageously, dying in the process. His body is burned and his ashes are placed in a cave by the
sea. By placing his ashes in the seaside cave, people passing by will always remember the
legendary hero and king, Beowulf. In this epic the presentation of the story telling... Show more

The frequent allusions to the power of fate, the motive of blood revenge, and the praise of worldly
glory bear testimony to the ancient background of pagan conceptions and ideals. However, the
general tone of the epic and its ethical viewpoint are mostly Christian . There is no longer a genuine
pagan atmosphere. The sentiment has been softened and purified. The virtues of moderation,
unselfishness, consideration for others are practiced and appreciated. The author has fairly
exhaulted the fights with Grendel, his mother, and the dragon into a conflict between powers of
good and evil. The figure of Grendel, while originally an ordinary troll is conceived as an
impersonation of evil and darkness, even an incarnation of the Christian devil. Grendel is a
member of the race of Cain, he is a creature dwelling in the outer darkness, a giant and cannibal.
When he crawls off to die, he is said to join the route of devils in hell. The story of a race of
demonic monsters and giants descended from Cain. It came form a tradition established by the
apocryphal Book of Enoch and early Jewish and Christian interpretations of Genesis 6:4. Many of
Grendel s actions are unquestionable epithets of Satan such as enemy of mankind, God s
adversary, the devil in hell, and the hell slave. His actions are represented in

How Does Satrapi Present Religion In Persepolis
In Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi disproves preconceptions of Iranian culture through the use of
illustrations in a graphic novel format. Originally written in French, Satrapi s graphic novel is set
in Iran during the Iranian Revolution, and tells the story of Satrapi s childhood, through her
childhood self, Marji. In the graphic novel Persepolis, Marjane Satrapiincorporates religious icons
to suggest that a loss of individuality leads to the invalidity of preconceptions of Iranian oppression.
Allusions towards God and Karl Marx are used to show opposing viewpoints that went through
Marji s mind during the revolution, both sides of her persona are seen fighting for her full
attention. Marji admired both figures, although their perspectives towards the relationship between
religion and government are contradicting. Marji is reading a book before she goes to bed, entitled

It was funny to see how much Marx and God looked like each other (Satrapi, 13.3). Marji feels as

readers, who were once observers, into the story and Marji s life, forcing them to make a

contrasting, and she must choose which of the two she admires more. God and Marx have such
different standpoints. There is God, who is so invested in religion and fate, and then there is
Marx, who once stated religion is a protest against real suffering. Marji s conflicts between Marx
and God changes the way Iranians during the revolution were perceived. Following Satrapi s

In the technological age the World is in today, it is not hard to imagine a life built on the idea of
total perfection. As more innovations come about and humanity continues to technologically
progress toward a perfect world mankind is actually closing the gap between emotion and dystopia.
A utopia gone astray is displayed in Aldous Huxleys novel Brave New World. The technological
advances used to pursuit a flawless society ultimately cause the deterioration of human
relationships. A utopian society is a community that possess perfect qualities. In Brave New World
the stride towards perfection is aided by advanced technology. The World Statehas new innovations

Verification Of Motion Lab
Verification of Newton s 2nd Law of Motion
Introduction The objective of this lab was to test Newton s 2nd law of motion, which states that
the acceleration of an object is proportional to the sum of forces acting on it and inversely
proportional to its mass. This was done by connecting a cart to a hook with a string and using a
smart pulley to measure the acceleration of varying masses on the hook as it falls down. System
mass remains constant. A free body diagram and applying Newton s 2nd Law yields the following
relationship:
Where mass 1 is the mass of the cart and the weights it contains, while mass 2 is the hook and the
weights it holds. Thus the goal is to record data that follows this equation; as more masses are

A smart pulley is clamped onto the side of the table and connected to a computer to sync with
Capstone. In Capstone, select the device as Photogate with Pulley. Set up a position vs time
graph to record data for. Attach a string to the cart, over the smart pulley, and latch it onto a 5g
hook to the side of the table. Obtain four weights: two 20g, one 50g, and one 100g. While
keeping the cart in place, keep one 20g weight on the hook and the remainder in the cart. Start
recording data from the smart pulley and release the cart so that it will slowly slide towards the
edge of the table. Grab the cart before it hits the pulley and stop recording data. Reset the cart s
position to 50 cm away from the edge. Repeat this process for the following masses on the hook:
40g (two 20g weights), 70g (one 20g weight and a 50g weight), 100g (just the 100g weight), and
170g (one 20g, 50g, and 100g). Keep the remainder weights on the cart. Be careful with the cart at
higher masses on the hook, as it will move quickly. Once the trials are completed, create quadratic
fits for the recorded data on Capstone. Make sure to remove unwanted data, such as the initial
motionless state of the cart and the adrupt halt of its motion. The acceleration of the system is two
times the value of the A constant in the curve fit; record this and do this for all trials.

God s Omnipotence
Some people refer God as the Omnipotent, that is to say a being that has unlimited power, and is
able to do everything. God has four different attributes, he is omniscient, simple, eternal and
omnipotent. The latter raises some difficulties, and paradoxes. In a first part I will show how
omnipotence can be defined differently, how radical omnipotence differs with limited omnipotence
and the issue with logic. Then I will show how Gods omnipotence raises some paradoxes and
contradictions, by relying on the paradox of the stone and the problem of evil. Finally I will try
to answer some questions concerning God s ability to sin, to bring about the past, and to do things
not done by him. Does God s powers have a limit, could it then be... Show more content on

(Mackie, 1955)The claim that evil is necessary as a counterpart to good (Mackie, 1955, p.203) errs,
indeed we can again assert that as God made the laws of logic it would be possible for only good to
exist in the world.
Nevertheless the existence of evil in the world is required to prove what good really is. Without evil,
everything, every actions are considered good. But if good is everywhere, it becomes difficult
to measure it, and we cannot compare it with other actions. To be good is to possess and display
moral virtue, but how can we do that if evil does not exist ? Good has to be opposed to evil, for it
to exist. It then does not distract it with God s omnipotence. Mackie (1955) reckons that first
order evil such as pain and misery contrasts with first order good pleasure and happiness .
Moreover a second order good such as sympathy can only exist if there is a second order evil
suffering , similarly with heroism in facing danger (Mackie, 1955, p.206). But according to
Mackie this claim fails, in fact the second order evil that is cowardice or cruelty (Mackie, 1955,
p.207) is rising as much as another second order good. And if God were omnipotent and morally
good he would try and eliminate those evils.
Regarding evil and omnipotence many philosophers have taken the position that human have
freewill and are independent of God. And that

History Of Computers During World War II
History of Computers
Introduction
In today s modern world, it s hard to imagine life without computers. Throughout the decades,
computers have gotten better, faster, and smaller. It s hard to imagine that before the 20th century
almost all calculations were done by mechanical devices such as the electromechanical computers;
or, the first digital computers that had huge tubes around them that you had to designate a whole
room just to fit the computer in. Today we have Internet, phone book, pictures, videos, telephone,
mail, and camera that is compacted into one tiny device that can fit in your pocket.
Electromechanical Computers
There was a big push for technological advancement during World War II in order to gain the upper
hand in the war. The computers built during this time period were mainly electromechanical. The
calculations were performed by electrical switches that signaled the mechanical operation.
Konrad Zuse, German Computer Engineer, created Z2; one of the very first electromechanical
relay computers. It used fixed point arithmetic with 16 bits2. This was an upgrade from the
previous one he had made named the Z1. The Z1 had a 22 floating point bit, but was slower2.
Therefore, Z2 was more desired because it could compile data quicker.
Around the same time, electromechanical devices called bombes were created by the British in
order to decipher the machines that the Germans had built during World War II3. The US later

that TV and media has power over us as a whole. Media is incorporated into our everyday lives,
whether people like it or not. The advertiser would chose to display this product like this in order to
intrigue their customer base. This puts an overall judgement on American culture because it
presents society as lazy. For example, the advertisement shows Peyton Manning as spending his
retirement in his house, when he could be exploring the world. Some would say you can spend
your retirement doing what makes you happy, but only the American culture would chose television

These resistance movements, Oka, Gustafsen Lake, and Burnt...
These resistance movements, Oka, Gustafsen Lake, and Burnt Church each had their own reasons
as to why they started, and how the First Nations people fought for what they believed in. They
fought for their rights to fish, to keep their sacred land safe and to be able to use sacred land for
their Sun Dances. These resistances were between the First Nationspeople and the non First
Nations people, the Oka resistance was the Mohawk people and they were trying to protect their
lands from an impending golf course the town of Oka was going to build. Gustafsen Lake was
the Ts Peten people and their use of land for their Sun Dance. The Burnt Church Resistance was

The War Of Secret Intelligence
In the Revolutionary War, much of the action went on behind the scenes. Most Americans have a
general knowledge of the Revolutionary War, and the United States founding fathers. After all, it
is the American Heritage, and rather new in contrast to those of most comparable nations.
However, there is a large portion of this history that is almost entirely unknown the war behind the
war. The war of secret intelligence. The Revolutionary War was the birth of a new nation, and the
birth of secret intelligence use. George Washington is given the credit for this development by
most officials. Along with the use of spies, we also have the beginning of ciphers and coding in
warfare. The beginning of this nation was the beginning of many institutions still essential to our
society today. The Start of the Intelligence War George Washington and Secret Intelligence
Washington s Six Unfortunately, along with the beginning of American secret intelligence, came

intelligence, the first spy of the revolutionary was worked for the British. His name was Benjamin

Aquaman Underrated Essay
Why Aquaman Is Underrated When someone asks who your favorite superhero is, Aquaman is not
a very common answer. But how much do they really know about him? All assumptions aside,
Aquaman is actually one of the most powerful DC Comic Book characters that exist. Although
Aquaman did not come around until the 1940s, the first newspaper comic strips started out in the
1890 (Harrison). A few nicknames given by people that do not appreciate the authenticity of
Aquaman include, The Prince of Tuna, the Aqualad from Atlantis, and the One SuperheroI Could
Probably Take Down in a Fight (Borrelli). People may give Aquaman more credit if they knew
more about his origin, his super abilities, and his impressive achievements. When the original
Aquaman was created, he was born into an underwater society of people who were just like him.
Aquaman was the only one of his kind to have fine hair like a human, which was severely looked
down upon. Because of this, as a child, Aquaman was abandoned by his parents and left at a
place called Mercy Reef to die. He was discovered by a dolphin named Porm. This dolphin raised
him until adolescence when he discovered a lighthouse keeper who took him in as his own son.
This man taught him the ways of the humans so that he could live in sea and on land. Although he

guardian of Hell named Cerberus, and talked Hades into releasing himself and Poseidon.

Comparing the Search in Plato s Allegory of the Cave and...
The Search for Truth in Plato s Allegory of the Cave and Anderson s Winesburg, Ohio
The novel Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson has many themes that present themselves
throughout the book. One such recurring theme is a search for truth. The characters in the book do
not fully realize that they are searching for truth, but they do feel a vague, indescribable thing that
pushes and prods their minds to actualize a higher plane of thought. This search for a higher plane
by the characters of Winesburg nearly parallels another literary work of ancient Greek origin Plato
s Allegory of the Cave, which is a portion of his famous writing The Republic. I contend that the

Life for the prisoners goes on this way without occurrence until one of them is freed, led up
outside the cave, and shown the real world. The freed person will realize that the truth of the
shadowed reality is actually a falsehood. After this realization the person who visited the upper
world is returned to imprisonment in the cave. Her eyes have to adjust to the darkness of the cave
once again. However, this adjustment naturally takes a long time. As a result, the once free person
can no longer see the shadows as well as she did before her release into the upper world. To the
people who have remained in the cave, it seems as though going into the upper world has
destroyed her faculty for seeing reality. Some of the captives then say that trying to reach the outer
world is harmful, and that anyone caught trying to loose themselves or another person for the
purpose of reaching the outside will be punished. Plato says that the cave symbolizes the world of
sight and the outside represents the world of knowledge. Plato also instructs people to interpret the
journey upwards to be the ascent of the soul into the intellectual world. Plato s belief is that in the
world of knowledge the idea of good appears, and that humans should strive to reach this goodness
through philosophical thought.
The connection between Winesburg, Ohio and the Allegory of the Cave presents itself in the very
first passage, The Book of the Grotesque. In this first

that help retailers control inventory levels and reduce handling costs and waste. When the company
started receiving trend alerts that its customers were posting bad comments about its new user

about the improved app on social media and thanked its customers for pointing out the problem.
Once customers tried the new app, they turned to social media once more to praise Blue Yonder. In
the end, the company scored points for listening to its customers.

Analysis of the Painting Late Northern Song emperior...
Cranes above Kaifeng or Auspicious Cranes is a hand scroll attributed to one of the most artistic
important figure: Late Northern Song Emperor Huizong (Sturman, 1990). This painting was
made to commemorate a rare phenomenon where 20 cranes flying on the sky above the main
gate of the palace, Kaifeng, on the day of Lantern Festival on the year 1112. This phenomenon
was believed as a Mandate of Heaven under the rule of Emperor Huizong (IBID). This auspicious
phenomenon, however, might not be as magical as it seems since Cranes above Kaifeng mirrors
Emperor Huizong s 3 aspects of painting that shows Emperor Huizong s power on art during his
sovereignty. Firstly, auspicious phenomenon mentioned before is known as ruiying in Chinese. It is

In other words, although he promoted realism, Cranes above Kaifeng is still subjected to
interpretation. In the painting, the cranes were dancing in an elegant and formally
choreographed dance above the city gates among the magical clouds (Ars orientalis). Seeing
this, it might not be convincing to say that the painting is based on a real life event since it is
close to impossible for the cranes to dance in an exact beautiful formation. Although, it is not
unlikely that Huizong did see cranes above the city gates but he saw or imagine them as if they
were dancing instead of just flying through. Intentionally or not, he then depicted the event so
beautifully in the hand scroll and interpreted it as Mandate of Heaven. Furthermore, during
Huizong s reign, he focused a lot on these auspicious signs and even developed a record of these
by having the citizens to report the sightings (ars orientalis). It was like a documentation of the
blessings that were given to the Song (kertas selembar). This system, however, made it seems like
these auspicious events were forced and did not happen naturally. This is quite fascinating
because it seemed like Huizong wanted to control Heaven s blessings and as long as the people
believed him, it did not really matter whether those auspicious events were not true. The
documentation or record that was produced acted like evidence that Song is blessed and Huizong
was indeed a legitimate leader. This

Essay on Digestion of Cheetos
Digestion of Cheetos It s a typical day. After school you get home and you are starving, but you
just want a snack. What should I eat?, you ask yourself. Then, after looking through the cabinets
for a few minutes, you find Cheetos and decide to eat a few. With just the presence of those
Cheetos in your sight, the digestion process begins in your 9 meterlong digestive tract.
Crunch, Crunch, Crunch. As you munch on those first few Cheetos the digestion process begins in
your mouth. Here, mechanical digestion begins to reduce the size of the Cheeto and mixes the food
particles with saliva. The tongue helps mix and move the pieces of Cheeto throughout the mouth.
The salivary glands in the mouth also contribute to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now in the duodenum, accessory organs add their secretions to the chyme. First is the pancreas. It
adds pancreatic juice to the chyme, which contains many enzymes that digest carbohydrates, fats,
nucleic acids, and proteins. Pancreatic amylase begins to split the last of the fifteen grams of
carbohydrates into double sugars. The pancreatic lipase breaks down the ten grams of fat into fatty
acids and glycerol. There are three other protein splitting enzymes called trypsin, chymotrypsin, and
carboxypeptidase.
These break the bonds between particular combinations of amino acids in proteins. The hormone,
secretin, controls the secretion of pancreatic juices. When CCK and secretin join together, they
slow down the activity of the stomach. The liver is another important accessory organ. It stores
many substances, glycogen, iron, and vitamins A, D, and B12. It also helps maintain the normal
concentration of blood glucose. The liver produces bile, which is important to digestion. The gall
bladder stores, strengthens, and secretes the bile. CCK stimulates the gall bladder to secrete bile.
Bile salts aid digestive enzymes. They break down fat globules into smaller droplets and enhance
absorption. The Cheetos, in the form of chyme, are now traveling through the small intestine. In the
small intestine, sucrase, maltase, and lactase split the double sugars into simple sugars, and

Business Vs. Government Owned Business
Most Military Soldiers believe that when they get out of the Military and start a business that
there is only one type of business they can own. They also believe that they will not have any
problems in achieving their own business goals and will have stability in that business. This is
why they have to set long and short term goals. Look at privately owned businessvs. government
owned business and the pros and cons of making your choice of business. When making that choice
of either business type education level, wages, benefits, and total compensation are an affecting
factor to a positive or negative outcome.

Essay about Gene s Coming of Age in A Separate Peace
Gene s Coming of Age in A Separate Peace
The novel, A Separate Peace, by John Knowles, is the coming of age story of Gene Forrester.
This novel is a flashback to the year 1943, when Gene is attending Devon School during his
senior year and the summer before it. Gene s youth and inexperience make him ill equipped to
deal with situations that require maturity (Overview: A Separate Peace 2). However, Gene is a
follower of Finny and therefore gains experiences that provoke his development into adulthood.
Some of these experiences include: breaking Finny s leg, training for the 1944 Olympics, and
killing Finny. Through these three experiences Gene is forced to grow out of his childish self and
become a man. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gene becomes more disciplined and athletically inclined. He is undertaking circumstances that he
knows will never come true, the 1944 Olympics, yet making the best of them to please his best
friend. Gene is learning to do things although he does not want to do and that have no purpose.
This is a difficult task for an immature child; however, through Gene s ability to train for the
inexistent Olympics, shows that he is growing up. He looks at his training as if he were preparing
for the war. Accepting that he must go to war is also another sign of maturity brought on by the
training for the Olympics with Finny. Through his preparation for the Olympics, Gene s coming of
age becomes more and more evident.
Finny s death causes the greatest maturity growth in Gene s character. After Finny dies, he
realized how his own hatred caused the death of his best friend. He came to understand Finny s
innocence and purity which causes Gene to see flaws within himself and forces him to grow up
(Alton 1). Being able to admit your own flaws is critical in maturing. When Gene finally sees his
impact of immature behavior, he realizes how much he needs to mature. Even though Finny is
physically gone, his spirit remains with Gene and essentially makes him the adult that he grows
up to be. Finny s death is a crucial part of Gene s coming of age. When Finny dies, Gene s
immature behaviors also die. Because Gene s hatred was gone, he entered war as a man.

Tommy Hilfiger endorses Gigi Hadid, a fashion model, a Victoria Secret Angel, and even comes
from a well known family. Companies endorse celebrities by means of using their social status
to gain a wider viewing audience. Certainly, Gigi Hadid has many fans and followers through her
rise of fame in the past few years and marketers target this fame in effort to obtain more
awareness. Lastly, an element needed in making a persuasive advertisement is conveying a
sense of pleasure and pursuit of happiness. The viewers must want to buy the product to be just
like the people in the advertisement. They want to be cool and socially accepted in the world
and gain popularity like the actors in the ad, especially featuring celebrities. Gigi is surrounded by
handsome men, trying to send a message that buying the perfume will attract men and as well
bring them popularity as a famous celebrity is also wearing such product. Additionally, the clip of
Gigi beating the man at an arm wrestling match can also mean that wearing such perfume can
bring them power. The commercial effectively adheres to all three criteria of a successful perfume
advertisement as it draws the targeted audience, has celebrity endorsement and conveys a sense of
pleasure and pursuit of a glamorous life. In addition to the tv commercial with Gigi, another ideal

A Hanging George Orwell Analysis
George Orwell, an experienced Assistant Superintendent in the British Imperial Police, composed A
Hanging after his resignation in 1927. The narrative is a personal testimony set in the 1920 s in
Burma. Orwell uses the classical techniques of formal argument to depict the death of an unknown
prisoner, while taking a position against the death penalty. George Orwell s Abolitionist message in
A Hangingis conveyed through the prisoner, dog, functionaries, and their actions, words, and body
language.
The writer implies the prisoner s humanity by describing his emotions and ability to reason. After
the execution, the Eurasian boy tells Orwell when the prisoner found out he would be hung, he
pissed on the floor of his cell (Orwell 102). The boy s story signifies the prisoner s human
characteristics through his reaction, as he was so scared he urinated on himself. As John Rodden
notes, this happening creates sympathy (73). The action humanizes the prisoner, connecting the
readers to him. Likewise, George Orwell details the condemned man s human like traits by
describing the prisoner avoiding a puddle directly before his execution. This simple act causes a
realization that the prisoner is also human. John Rodden states, The narrorator reinforces this point
by drawing attention to the prisoner s humanity, as he a dead man walking diligently sidesteps a
puddle (72). Rodden suggest that the dead man still has dignity to sidestep the puddle. The
illustration of the prisoner s response to his death sentence and his avoidance of the water brings to
the reader s attention that capital punishment is taking another human life.
George Orwell conveys the prisoner as human in order to emphasis the dehumanization of capital
punishment. As George Orwell states, He and we were a party of men walking together, seeing,
hearing, feeling, understanding, the same world, and in two minutes, with a sudden snap, one of
us would be gone (101). Orwell implies the prisoner is no different from him; yet, by killing the
condemned man he is taking away his humanity. The author explains the prisoner s gait and stance
as steady, bobbing from side to side with his knees bent. He does not protest, as he has accepted his
fate.

  • 2. Similarities Between A Thousand Splendid Suns And... THE FATALITY OF LOVE IS AN INNEVITABLE FACET TO HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS Trauma and tragedy are inevitably regular and pervasive outcomes in romantic literature. Our literary heritage is filled with heartbreak, failed relationships and broken individuals. Wuthering Heights and Khaled Hosseini s A Thousand Splendid Suns both exhibit broken relationships, through a backdrop of conflict in swar torn Afghanistan and the restrictions of Victorian social hierarchy played out on the wild and windswept North York Moors destroying these implied impervious bonds. 1. LACK OF CONTROL OVER MARRIAGES In both novels we experience a high sense of the women lacking in control, one significant being the lack of control over their marriages. The culture of set societal rules and conventions urges Catherine to be with Edgar, compelling her to be the greatest woman of the neighbourhood due to them being relatively firm in their gentry s status. This suggests the importance of her social status against the nature of her love for Heathcliff stating, we would be beggars , through employing the word beggars the reader crafts the idea of her belief that she won t survive without her status. Catherine admits It would degrade me to marry Heathcliff now; so he shall never know how I love him Thus implying a swelling sense of her vanity and pride; enough to enjoy the position she gains from being married to Edgar despite her admiration for Heathcliff, being more than (herself) than (she is) and ... • 3. Sentinal Fire Protection Ltd ( Sfp ) TITLE BLANK Summary Sentinal Fire Protection Ltd (SFP) is a company that design and specialises in the design and manufacture of fire detection and extinguishing systems for aircrafts. SFP have been tasked with carrying out tests on a new fire extinguishant named Agent H3. Due to the findings conducted in 1994 as per the Montreal Protocol (a protocol to the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer), the commonly used fire extinguishing agent Halon 1301 ceased production. Halon 1301 is a CFC (chlorofluorocarbon) gas, which the Montreal Protocol concluded, had a tendency to significantly breakdown the earths ozone layer. The termination of Halon 1301 prompted the need for a CFC free replacement fire extinguishing agent. The replacement extinguishant, Agent H3 was tested by SFP under controlled conditions which simulated a bulk load cargo fire inside a compartment with a volume of 58m3. The effectiveness of Agent H3 was constantly monitored through thermocouples and data loggers. It s efficiency as a fire suppressant was based on two criterion set by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), the temperature acceptance criterion and the maximum time/temp criterion, with the outcome of a lower result being more effective. These results would then be compared with the known results of Halon 1301 being subjected to the same tests. The results concluded that Agent H3 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Informative Essay On Ufos Reports of an alien UFO being intercepted by jet fighters have circulated the Internet. Residents of an otherwise quiet English town were awoken to blasting jet engines earlier this month. Jet fighters from a nearby military base scrambled toward the English coast to intercept what was said to be a UFO. The UFO was reported by fisherman to have risen from the water. The flight tracking of the jets showed that they were circling something. But the government reported that it was not a UFO, but an Air France flight. New footage on YouTube taken by fisherman tell a different story. UFO Dives Into Sea A recent YouTube video shows footage from a fishing boat capturing jets and a helicopter circling a UFO. The YouTube channel Christopher Stokes published the footage on May 25. It shows jets and a helicopter attempting to make contact with a UFO before it dives into the sea. The fishermen are of course hysterical as the booming engines of the jets buzz by before the UFO simply disappears into the water. A helicopter than does a flyby, and the footage ends. Could this be real footage? If so, how did they get it off the boat? Have those fishermen been assassinated? A Hoax or Possibly Real? The footage of the jets, helicopter, and UFO is definitely suspicious. It is fuzzy, pixelated, and the UFO isn t to clear. One odd feature of the footage is that the UFO... • 5. The Power Of Language In Animal Farm, By George Orwell The power of language dominates the minds of the characters in Animal Farm by George Orwell, as they embark on a journey to rebellion. In the novel, Orwell assigns devious tactics to the animals that they use to reflect on the power of language. Not only does the author use propaganda to reflect the power of language, but he also adds a disposition of persuasiveness. Orwell incorporates power of language by having characters, like Squealer, integrate many different forms of propaganda. Another way that power of language is used in this novel is persuasion by the lead animals on the farm. The author uses these tactics to reflect on the power of language, in order to show the importance of words. To begin with, George Orwell consistently includes methods of propaganda, meaning government communications to the public that are designed to influence opinion. This is seen a lot throughout Animal Farm, with it s purpose being to emphasize the power of language. He does so by having characters, like Squealer, use many slick tactics while performing speeches to the animals. When declaring that the pigs were keeping the milk and apples to themselves, Squealer uses not one, but two great forms of propaganda. Those two being distraction tactics and appeals to authority. Squealer explained, Many of us actually dislike milk and apples. I dislike them myself! Our sole object in taking these things is to preserve our health. Milk and apples (and this has been proved by Science, comrades) contain substances absolutely necessary to the well being of a pig (35). In this speech, Squealer brings up science, or appeals to authority to prove his point, when really, there is no actual evidence that the pigs absolutely need milk and apples. Appeals to authority is the act of claiming that something must be true because it is believed by someone who is said to be an authority on the subject. Orwell incorporates this tactic by having Squealer mention that the facts he uses are from an authority on the subject. What the animals don t suspect is that Squealer never proves that the information is factual. He also turns the table and informs the animals that the pigs aren t getting milk and apples because they want to or like them, it s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Genetic And Genomic Education And Practice In Nursing Genetic and Genomic Education and Practice in Nursing The Human Genome Project launched in 1990 and marked the start of an evolutionary change in healthcare. Medicine has made great advancements following the completion of the Human Genome Project (HGP) in 2003. In addition to these advancements, the scope of practice for nurses is continuously changing and expanding. There is a growing emphasis on genetic literacy in the nursing profession. In the era of personalized medicine, registered nurses are now expected to be knowledgeable and skilled in genetics and genomics, regardless of academic preparation. The goal of obtaining the genetic family history is to identify the potential risks for serious health conditions. Early identification of health risk s can allow for a more individualized and focused nursing care plan, including lifestyle behavior modifications. The following are two brief examples that demonstrate the significance of gathering a detailed family history, matched with genetic knowledge: A nurse learns that a patient s parent died at a young age from colon cancer. The nurse would recognize that the patient and any siblings are at risk for familial adenomatous polyposis, a familial cancer syndrome (Lea, Skirton, Read , Williams, 2011). A patient is scheduled for surgery. The nurse knows surgery presents several immediate health risks. • 9. The Pros And Cons Of Disabilities The only disability in life is a bad attitude Scott Hamilton. People who are born physically impaired do not let that define them or hold them back from being happy. Although, some may say people with disabilities are treated equally even though they are handicapped, they are wrong. Handicapped people are treated differently through social interactions because they are Handicapped. People s physical disabilitywill vary in everyone. The word handicapped is first recorded in the late 19th century in the sense referring to a person s mental or physical disabilities. In British English it was the standard term until the 1980s, but it has been superseded by disabled, or, in reference to mental disability, expressions such as having learning difficulties or learning disabled. In American English handicapped is still sometimes used, especially in phrases such as handicapped accessible and handicapped parking. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) defines disability as an umbrella term for impairments, activity limitations and participation restrictions. Disability is the interaction between individuals with a health condition (e.g. cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and depression) and personal and environmental factors (e.g. negative attitudes, inaccessible transportation and public buildings, and limited social supports). People have different ways of explaining and knowing what disability really means. When people learn someone is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Philosophy Of Adult Learning And Methods Of Delivery Introduction The demands of today s society require that many professionals continue to learn throughout their careers in order to maintain relevancy in a quickly changing world. Educators also face the growing demand for accountability as they prepare students for a future that cannot be predicted. With this pressure for change and accountability, practicing educators seek effective and efficient ways to modify their curriculum and to improve instruction and assessment strategies that will allow their students to succeed now and in the future. Educators learn informally on a daily basis as they interact with their students and peers and formally through learning experiences initiated either internally by the teacher or externally by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of these principles are based upon elements of andragogical practice. For example, one of the core elements of andragogy is self directed learning which is now incorporated at some level in many models of effective professional learning for teachers. However, self direction and other andragogical principles are often ignored or diminished because of ignorance of adult learning principles or due to limitations of resources such as time, finances, and expertise. For example, Webster Wright (2009) noted that the decontextualization of professional learning reinforces a perceived division between what is learned by the teacher and what is actually put into practice in the classroom. Because of limited exposure to the principles and application of adult learning, teachers and principals possess varying levels of knowledge of andragogy and of self directedness. This limitation impacts educator satisfaction with professional learning that is based on principles of andragogy and principles of effective professional learning. This literature review will consider the impact of professional learning on the practices of teachers and on student achievement. The review will also research current common practices of professional learning utilized by school districts as well as principles of effectiveness for professional learning for teachers. • 11. What Is The Theme Of The Palm Wine Drunkard The Palm wine Drinkard is a short story that follows a man whose life was centered on the drinking of palm wine and with the help of his palm wine tapster, he could drink as much as he wanted together with his friends. His tapster finally dies after falling from a tall palm tree whilst tapping palm wine. The man who is referred to as the palm winedrunkard buries the body of his tapster and embarks on a very long journey to find him in the land of the dead, which reveals various supernatural encounters throughout his journey. Although the author masterfully uses magical realism, personification, simile and irony to vividly tell the story of the drunkard, the improper poor use of proper grammar surprisingly made the text more understandable to read. The setting of this story is not clearly disclosed but from the author s choice of words like the use of juju , traveling from bushes to bushes and native blacksmiths , there is a clear depiction of a typical African village setting. In the story, the author seeks to create a picture of a world of traditional mythologies in the mind of the reader, where human beings easily mingle with beings from the spiritual world. The author also presents a world where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The point within the story where the drunkard turned into a bird, death commanding the strings of a drum to tie the drunkard and also the Drinkard commanding the ropes of yam to tie him whilst the yam stakes beat him picture the use of magical realism within the text. Also, the fact that the drunkard claimed he was the Father of the gods who could do everything in this world and yet still, he spent all his time consulting various characters where he could find his dead tapster creates some irony at this point. • 12. The Importance Of Western Culture And Punjabi Culture A constant struggle of incorporating western mentality and remaining true to my Punjabi culture has been at the root of many dilemmas throughout my life and has caused me to engender my own set of values, which reflect a unique blend of western culture and Punjabi culture. As a future marriage and family therapist who will be assessing a diverse population, I foresee this amalgamation becoming an issue when I receive clients who come from a similar background and have a certain expectation of what I should say, or when I receive clients who come from a different background and have different values than I do. If one is not consciously aware of these values and biases, then it is very likely that these concerns will impede the therapeutic relationship and the work of the therapist. For instance, Punjabi culture emphasizes parents sacrificing their own happiness for their children s happiness, which can be seen via parents not getting a divorce for a child s happiness. I have seen the latter occur many times, even in instances where the parents cannot stand one another. Growing up I understood this mentality, because I had witnessed my American friends going through turmoil when finding out their parents were getting a divorce. At the time, I believed that the parents were selfish, that they were not considering what this would do to their child. • 15. Freedom, Without Qualification Is An Important Piece Of ``... Freedom is such an important piece of Americana that everyone, inside or outside of the United States, believes they know what the word means; yet when asked to define it, the word retreats to the abstract nothingness of intangible shadows. Freedom s complicated nature becomes an important topic when comparing the free and enslaved black women in three antebellum narratives: Harriet Jacobs s Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Melton A. McLaurin s Celia, a Slave, and Harriet E. Wilson s Our Nig. Freedom is obviously preferable to enslavement this fact is indisputable. Millions of male and female slaves risked their lives to escape slavery; no free person of color wanted to be enslaved. However, merely saying freedom without qualification is a misnomer, for it is not a monolithic idea. The United States did not have a single group of free people free Black women were (and still are) treated differently from White women. Thus, the debate of whether free women of color and female slaves were more different than similar is a question of whether slavery, which differentiated free women of color from female slaves, was more pervasive than racism, which separated free women of color and White females. By comparing externalist and internalist methods of understanding freedom namely, freedom from violence and free will between White women, free women of color and enslaved women, this paper concludes that racism trumped the differences created by slavery. A basic difference is the consequentialist would believe the end justifies the means. A deontologist would conclude that irrespective of outcomes, the method or means should conform to a stricture or rule set. The consequentialist is focused on the consequences of the action. If the end result provides more good than bad, they would conclude the action justifies the end result. To make a conclusion the consequentialist would ask; who will be affected by the action, who would benefit from performing the action, who would be harmed by performing the action, who would benefit from not performing the action, who would be harmed by not performing the action. The origin of the modern day automatic sprinkler system dates back to the early 1800 s. The first automatic sprinkler system was created in England in the 1806 by John Carey. It consisted of a pipe with valves held closed by counterweights attached by string. When flames burned through the string the counterweight dropped to the floor, which opened the valve that released the water and extinguished the fire. As the 1800 s progressed, the basic pipe system for sprinklers was becoming more prevalent across England. It began to pop up in textile mills all through out the country. Management Style At Jc Penney Management Style at JC Penney Introduction In the retail industry, it is hard for a business to abandon all its previous strategies, such as locations and advertising strategies to make a fresh start. However, that is precisely what JCPenney and has been able to accomplish numerous times. Founded over a hundred years ago, the firm has undergone mass renovations with each change in leadership. Moreover, recently, JCPenney, has been reinvented once more, under the leadership of President Michael Francis and CEO Ron Johnson. Together the two heads of JCPenney (JCP) originated from successful corporations and are currently fuelling such achievements into JCPenney. JCP s restructurment occurred in February 2012 and has changed the assessing arrangement inside the store. The store has been imparted a new style with changes in marketing, rating, store location and administration. All of these variations have been developed to improve the company s performance. In the past, JCP had, on average, one price campaign every day. The stores were full of sale signs and retail rise was getting out of control. JCP partnered with numerous exclusive collaborations which was hoped to bring about an expansion for the firm. However, due to the economic slump, the oversaturation of the market, and an expected lack of quality in the goods from the consumer perspective, JCPenney s success was degrading in contrast to its competitors. • 35. God s Omnipotence Some people refer God as the Omnipotent, that is to say a being that has unlimited power, and is able to do everything. God has four different attributes, he is omniscient, simple, eternal and omnipotent. The latter raises some difficulties, and paradoxes. In a first part I will show how omnipotence can be defined differently, how radical omnipotence differs with limited omnipotence and the issue with logic. Then I will show how Gods omnipotence raises some paradoxes and contradictions, by relying on the paradox of the stone and the problem of evil. Finally I will try to answer some questions concerning God s ability to sin, to bring about the past, and to do things not done by him. Does God s powers have a limit, could it then be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Mackie, 1955)The claim that evil is necessary as a counterpart to good (Mackie, 1955, p.203) errs, indeed we can again assert that as God made the laws of logic it would be possible for only good to exist in the world. Nevertheless the existence of evil in the world is required to prove what good really is. Without evil, everything, every actions are considered good. But if good is everywhere, it becomes difficult to measure it, and we cannot compare it with other actions. To be good is to possess and display moral virtue, but how can we do that if evil does not exist ? Good has to be opposed to evil, for it to exist. It then does not distract it with God s omnipotence. Mackie (1955) reckons that first order evil such as pain and misery contrasts with first order good pleasure and happiness . Moreover a second order good such as sympathy can only exist if there is a second order evil suffering , similarly with heroism in facing danger (Mackie, 1955, p.206). But according to Mackie this claim fails, in fact the second order evil that is cowardice or cruelty (Mackie, 1955, p.207) is rising as much as another second order good. And if God were omnipotent and morally good he would try and eliminate those evils. Regarding evil and omnipotence many philosophers have taken the position that human have freewill and are independent of God. And that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. History Of Computers During World War II History of Computers Introduction In today s modern world, it s hard to imagine life without computers. Throughout the decades, computers have gotten better, faster, and smaller. It s hard to imagine that before the 20th century almost all calculations were done by mechanical devices such as the electromechanical computers; or, the first digital computers that had huge tubes around them that you had to designate a whole room just to fit the computer in. Today we have Internet, phone book, pictures, videos, telephone, mail, and camera that is compacted into one tiny device that can fit in your pocket. Electromechanical Computers There was a big push for technological advancement during World War II in order to gain the upper hand in the war. The computers built during this time period were mainly electromechanical. The calculations were performed by electrical switches that signaled the mechanical operation. Konrad Zuse, German Computer Engineer, created Z2; one of the very first electromechanical relay computers. It used fixed point arithmetic with 16 bits2. This was an upgrade from the previous one he had made named the Z1. The Z1 had a 22 floating point bit, but was slower2. Therefore, Z2 was more desired because it could compile data quicker. Around the same time, electromechanical devices called bombes were created by the British in order to decipher the machines that the Germans had built during World War II3. The US later ... • 54. A Hanging George Orwell Analysis George Orwell, an experienced Assistant Superintendent in the British Imperial Police, composed A Hanging after his resignation in 1927. The narrative is a personal testimony set in the 1920 s in Burma. Orwell uses the classical techniques of formal argument to depict the death of an unknown prisoner, while taking a position against the death penalty. George Orwell s Abolitionist message in A Hangingis conveyed through the prisoner, dog, functionaries, and their actions, words, and body language. The writer implies the prisoner s humanity by describing his emotions and ability to reason. After the execution, the Eurasian boy tells Orwell when the prisoner found out he would be hung, he pissed on the floor of his cell (Orwell 102). The boy s story signifies the prisoner s human characteristics through his reaction, as he was so scared he urinated on himself. As John Rodden notes, this happening creates sympathy (73). The action humanizes the prisoner, connecting the readers to him. Likewise, George Orwell details the condemned man s human like traits by describing the prisoner avoiding a puddle directly before his execution. This simple act causes a realization that the prisoner is also human. John Rodden states, The narrorator reinforces this point by drawing attention to the prisoner s humanity, as he a dead man walking diligently sidesteps a puddle (72). Rodden suggest that the dead man still has dignity to sidestep the puddle. The illustration of the prisoner s response to his death sentence and his avoidance of the water brings to the reader s attention that capital punishment is taking another human life. George Orwell conveys the prisoner as human in order to emphasis the dehumanization of capital punishment. As George Orwell states, He and we were a party of men walking together, seeing, hearing, feeling, understanding, the same world, and in two minutes, with a sudden snap, one of us would be gone (101). Orwell implies the prisoner is no different from him; yet, by killing the condemned man he is taking away his humanity. The author explains the prisoner s gait and stance as steady, bobbing from side to side with his knees bent. He does not protest, as he has accepted his fate. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
