Visual Culture Of Coca Cola And Mcdonalds
Visual culture is the use of images, media, and other visual modes to represent the events and
ideas of the world (Mirzoeff, 1999). The visual modes can range from an oil painting, to media
on the internet, advertisements or TV. Visual culture has an influence on the consumer who is
exposed to it. In this essay, I am looking specifically at how visual culture is used in
advertisements, and how large brands, such as Coca Cola and McDonalds, use visual culture
throughout their advertisements. Visual culture is often used to benefit a business. Such as
increasing brand recognition through the marketing of the brand via colour or imagery. It can
also be through catchy slogans or jingles that are created to leave an impression and therefore
influence the consumer to the extent that they are remembered for a significant period of time.
Therefore, it can be seen that Coca Cola and McDonalds both use different forms of visual
culture in order to improve company image and increase brand recognition. Coca Cola have often
used different forms of visual culture in their advertisements in order to portray their product and
company in certain ways, such as their manipulation of the Santa Clause character and image, and
their use of colours in their visuals. Coca Cola has taken the cultural image of Santa Clause and
made it a focal point in many of their advertisements. Before Coca Cola first featured Santa in their
advertisements in the early 1930 s, the character s image was very

Fiction or Nonfiction, War Has the Same Effect Essays
A true war story is not always true. Some would say a true war story is an experience from war.
Others, who came from war, would say they make up stories to make war seem crazier than it
really is. Tim O Brian states that the story is fiction, but the moral is true. Tracy Kidder had
written war stories based on his time in Vietnam, and his book is rated as nonfiction, even though
he admits that some war stories are made up. Contained within The Things They Carried, is a story
by a man named Mitchell Sanders. Sanders tells a story about a group of soldiers that camped on a
listening mission, and all they did was listen. They heard many different noises, and paranoia hit
them. They ordered airstrikes on the motionless, noisy ground, and... Show more content on

The fact that Bill s major wound is from being drunk doesn t help with the believing part. Bill
later states that he may have made some pieces up to make his stories sound exciting (Kidder 8).
He doesn t want to seem like the loser that did nothing in the war. He wants to be the hero, but
the more lies he tells, the more he believes them. Between the two stories, they are both
believable, but they both have a possibility of being false. In Sanders story, He explains a very
detailed story of soldiers hallucinating strange noises after doing nothing but laying and
listening (O Brien 74). This seems true because people can tend to go insane if they do nothing
for about a week. The piece that makes this unbelievable is the fact that Sanders says he made
the story up, but the moral is true. Bill s story seems true, because people do not know what to
expect from war, except for dreadful moments, and Bill s losing of his good friend is a dreadful
moment indeed (Kidder 8). The drawback about Bill s story is the fact that his greatest wound
happened when he was drunk, so the question is if Bill made his story up to make himself look
better. According to O Brien, a true war story isn t always true. The story can be completely
false, but the point the writer/speaker is trying to get across could be the greatest advice a person
could receive. The key to listening to a war story is to listen, just like Sanders story (O Brien 74).
Also, The moral of a true war

The Pope, Jordan, and Religious Tourism
Case One: The Pope, Jordan, and Religious Tourism pg. 39 For JTB the best target market would
be pilgrims from foreign countries, where there would be large amount of Christian pilgrims
interested in coming to Jordan to see Jordan River where Jesus was baptized. Targeting Christians
in Jordan would be not as effective as in Rome, because in Jordanthere are only 4% residents with
Christian religion. In my opinion Nayef Fayez should have a wider view on world and target
people places where people would be most interested, instead of spending marketing budget in near
demographic regions. For example if they would target European Countries and America s where
there are a lot of Christians they would have much more success, as well as... Show more content on

Blond hair has nothing to do with a religion and interest in religion. Nitches have to be defined that
would bring benefit from both company and customer, and filled accordingly. Promotion, Place,
Product, Price can be figured out only if market is correctly segmented and enough research is
done. For example if we take as an example Christians, from Rome, age of 60+ with income of
2000 Euro s as money they can spend per month for leisure activities, we would have to find out
which way is best way to communicate with the potential costumer, and importantly how?
Internet is accessed not by everyone in this age group, they prefer to socialize and receive
information by phone or from other people. By phone it can be not realistic, and easy to end
conversation for potential customer, as well as in some countries marketing by phone is illegal.
Who are their opinion leaders? Most likely they look up and have good relationships with priests
in the nearby churches where they go, there handouts can be distributed or information spread
directly from priests. That would give us Place and a way to promote our product to this
particular segment. Product itself would have to be a description where they can stay, what
services are available, would they enjoy an early morning walk to the secret place or a ride on a
car? This

Appliance Maker the Challenge
Case 1: Appliance maker
The challenge
Senior executives at a large, low cost manufacturer of appliances and white goods were concerned
about the sluggish performance of the company s household fan business. It had long been among
the top leading players in the company s home country an emerging market but was now losing
domestic share in two important, and fiercely competitive, product categories.
The company s leaders suspected that a stagnant product portfolio was partly to blame; they had
been focusing a considerable amount of attention on operations and had neglected to revisit fan
designs for a couple of years. Meanwhile, an innovative upstart, also from an emerging market, had
begun competing with the manufacturer, both at home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet the teardown showed that as compared with competitors, the company was overbuilding its
products significantly and that identical or even better product performance was possible at a
lower cost if the team was willing to rethink its design approaches.
Some of the resulting design changes were quite straightforward and even, in retrospect, obvious.
Yet the team acknowledged that the new ideas didn t click until the teardown, when the evidence
was spread out on the table for discussion. By modifying the cover of one type of household fan,
for example, the team made it unnecessary to include an internal bracket assembly that had
supported the original cover a savings of 7 percent per unit. This change, like most cost saving
opportunities the team identified, was invisible to customers and didn t matter to them (for an
example of one model, see diagram).
Many of the individual cost saving opportunities the team identified were small. But the collective
impact was huge helping the company to reduce the total cost of manufacturing its fans by more
than 10 percent, against a cost base that was already quite competitive. Meanwhile, consumers
received the new designs well, and that contributed to a 50 percent jump in operating profit in the
first year of their introduction and helped elevate the company to the number two spot in the market
(up from number three) over that time span.

Successful Habits of Visionary Companies (199?), blanketed the world of business with a new

follows: It s one that has sustained performance over long periods of time, and is a premier
institution in its industry. Any industry will have successful companies, but every once in a

core values are the backbone of the organization that is preserved over time, especially

Chemical Synapse
The chemical synapse allows for the communication between 2 nerve cells when an AP reaches the
end of the axon and the signal subsequently modulates a postsynaptic membrane potential. This
occurs at neuronal connection points the synapses. These consist of the axon terminals belonging
to the sender cell (presynaptic neuron) and the dendritic spine heads of the receiver cell
(postsynaptic neuron). Between them lies the synaptic cleft. At the chemical synapse, the electrical
signal (AP) is converted into a chemical signal, in order to cross this synaptic divide. The
extracellular fluid therein poses a physical obstacle for the AP that is, unless it manages to
temporarily morph into a chemical courier (neurotransmitter). Thereafter, postsynaptic ion channels
(re)turn the latter (in)to its electrical form. To switch the chemical signal off, the neurotransmitter is
removed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This triggers a fusion of small vesicles (neurotransmitter containers) with the presynaptic
membrane. The vesicles burst and release the neurotransmitter into the synaptic cleft (exocytosis),
where it travels towards and docks at its specific receptor on the postsynaptic membrane. These
receptors are directly connected to an ion channel, which thereupon opens (lock key principle). A
Na/K channel, for example, initiates a high influx of Na+ and a slight efflux of K+ ions at the
postsynaptic membrane. The latter then depolarizes and generates an AP an electrical signal
passed on along a postsynaptic dendrite. But some neurotransmitter like GABA, for example, will
not trigger a postsynaptic depolarization (Dnalc.org, n.d.). When GABA docks at its receptors, K
/Cl channels open. K+ ions flow out of, while Cl ions enter the cell. Thus, the negative charge
inside the cell increases and the membrane is hyperpolarized. An inhibitory postsynaptic potential is
triggered and an AP

Puritans In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s, The Scarlet Letter, the Puritans are depicted as a sad and uniform group
of people. Hawthorne never explicitly states his negative views towards the Puritans, rather he
chooses to imply these views through his diction, color symbolism, comparing and contrasting, and
his use of irony. In the first chapter, Hawthorne describes the Puritans as, a throng of bearded men,
in sad colored garments and gray, steeple crowned hats, intermixed with women, some wearing
hoods... (55). Hawthorne, using the color gray, portrays the Puritans as depressing and rigid people.
The color gray is often used to represent people with sangfroid and is also associated with
conformity. Gray also has a subduing effect on other colors in the same way that the Puritans try to
control Hester s heterodox behavior. By depicting the men and women as indistinguishable,
Hawthorne further criticizes the Puritan uniformity and attempt to hide human nature. As a
Romantic, Hawthorne believed that nature was superior to society and in nature nothing is
uniform, so when the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The townspeople revere Dimmesdale for his outward piety but fail to recognize his secret sin.
Hawthorne portrays the Puritans as shallow with only an understanding of outwardly appearances.
Hawthorne also implies that the Puritans are misguided in believing that imperfect people can and
should be perfect. He also uses irony when the Puritans interpret the great red letter in the sky... for
Angel (153). The letter A was previously given to Hester with the putative meaning of adulteress,
now Hawthorne gives the scarlet letter to Dimmesdale. Yet the Puritans are naive to the truth of
Dimmesdale s sin even when shown evidence. From the evidence above, it can be inferred that
Hawthorne abhors the Puritans, he implies this through color symbolism, comparing and
contrasting, and irony through his diction in the text.

Sex Offender Essay
Sexual offenses, typically conducted with minors, are crimes when a person commits a crime
involving a sexual act. Prevention strategies for sexual offending behavior have become
increasingly important in the United States. The Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act
(SORNA) provides a comprehensive set of minimum standards for sex offenderregistration and
notification in the United States. It aims to close potential gaps and loopholes that existed under
prior law and generally strengthens the nationwide network of sex offender registration and
notification programs. California was the first state to pass the Sex Offender registration Law in
1946.

Specialized supervision usually involves specifically trained probation and parole officers who
manage caseloads of sexual offenders using specific supervision strategies that include special
conditions of supervision, multidisciplinary collaboration with a treatment provider, and the use
of global positioning systems, GPS, and polygraph. Studies of California high risk sex offenders
on parole found that those placed on GPS monitoring had lower recidivism rates than those who
received traditional supervision. 516 high risk parolees who had been released from prison
between January 2006 and March 2009 were studied. Half of the parolees wore GPS monitoring
devices and received traditional parole supervision, this involved regular contact by parole
agents and weekly sex offender treatment classes. The other half received only traditional parole
supervision. Researchers tracked each parolee for one year following his initial parole date. The
research showed that the members of the traditional group committed new crimes and had their
parole revoked more often than did parolees in the GPS group. If that wasn t enough, the
traditional group returned to custody at a rate 38 percent higher than the GPS group. The cost
analysis showed that in California, monitoring parolees using GPS costs approximately $35.96 a
day per person, while the cost of traditional supervision is about $27.45 a

Pilates Research Paper
When one thinks of arduous workouts, Pilates might not be the first to come to mind. Although it
is overlooked by more standard exercises such as running, it can have incredible results. The main
goal of anyone practicing Pilates is to feel stronger and healthier. How to accomplish this is in two
simple techniques; knowing how to breathe correctly and maintain proper form. Using proper
breathing techniques in Pilates is crucial. There is one basic rule to breathing when exercising that
applies to all workouts. When the move is difficult, exhale; when it is easy, inhale. This helps to get
through the harder part of the move. To fully understand why it is so important to have proper
breathing, it is imperative to understand the basics of Pilates.

Essay On Submarines In The Civil War
Submarines in the Civil War
Bridger Barnes
Submarines in the civil war are important because submarines were new during that time ,and
submarines could change the war for either side. IT helped shape the way we fight wars. It also
helped shape the way we fight a war today. It also helped change the whole mindset of war. History
One of the first submarines was built in 1623 and it was ordered by King James the first. The sub
was built by Cornelius Drebbel. According to accounts from that time period it appeared to be a
large enclosed rowboat using twelve oarsmen for propulsion. It is said to have made a trip down
the Thames River submerged at a depth of about 15 feet. Some accounts go so far as to claim that

Another sub known as The Turtle was built during the last half of the 1700s. John Day (the
creator of the Turtle) successfully built a small sub he used to submerge in shallow water. But one
day, he and a gambler made a bet on how long he could stay submerged in the middle of Plymouth
Sound. It is hypothesised that his sub collapsed under the greater pressure in the much deeper water
and that is what we think is the first death caused by submarine.
This is the Turtle
The most well known Union Civil War submarine was the U.S.S Alligator. The Alligator was
designed by a French inventor named Brutus de Villeroi. While under tow on the way to
Charleston, South Carolina, this sub was lost in a storm. There is a book the book is Secrets of
the Civil War Submarine. The books tells the story of the Alligator in more detail it also tells about
its rediscovery.
The Alligator s main priority was to counter the Confederacy attacks that were in the sea. Record s
show how many days it took to make and how much it cost. It took 40 days and it cost $14,000.
The army to use battlized submarines was the Confederate States of America. There submarines
were steam powered. They named this subs Davids after David from the Bible. They named it this

Ten Principles Of Walt Disney World
Walt Disney was an inventor as well as an idealistic. Due to the fact, he was also one of the most
successful business leaders of his time. The 10 principles that made Walt Disney became famous
and being the greatest icons of the 20th century are shown below.
Firstly, Walt Disney provides promise instead of product. The legend goes on when Walt Disney
was sitting on a bench while watching his daughters ride a carousel when he came up with the
concept of Disney World. He noticed amusement parks and state fairs were always in bad
condition and poorly organized. Aside from all this bad aspect, the employees were very rude
towards the customers. His Wife once asked him why did he intend to construct an amusement park
and she said that those amusement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the reasons the Disney tradition is very unique and famous is becayse Walt Disney was
more speicla of his creations than anyone else. He was a complete perfectionist with a hunger to
seek for detail which causes to forcing projects to go over budget and past deadline because of
feeling not satisfied with the project.
Thirdly,Walt Disney always pursue their passion and believes that their money will flow
eventually. Walt Disney undergo bankrupt more than once, invest everything he had in terms of
his own personal assets in order to build his studio, his films and pursue his dreams. The greater
profit one project produced, the deeper intensity of the next project would be. His vision was
constantly devoloping, and he utilize whatever capital he had to allow that vision to evolve. His
films and theme parks were symbols of love, construct to revolutionize an industry, rather than
magnify profits.
Fourthly, Walt Disney always stay true to his values and missions. Walt Disney was famous for
quoting, I hope that we never lose sight of one thing, that it was all started by a mouse. Many
years later, Mickey Mouse is still the main icon of the Disney franchise, defining all the good will
and imagination Disney represents. He s also a constant indication that the company has strong

The Ozone Depletion
The earth atmosphere has many layers; the first two layers are the troposphere, the stratosphere,
and the ozone layer which sits in the lower area of the stratosphere. The troposphere layer is
where a lot of human activity occurs, such as planes and mountain climbing. The next layer is
the stratosphere and this is where the ozone layer is located as well. The ozone layer helps
protect people from ultraviolet radiation that mainly come from the sun. The ozone layer can be
different depending on the season and the location. Over the past few years, the ozone layer has
been depleting because of human activity. The main issue of the depletion of the ozone layer is
the man made products that have been created and has cause bad effect on the ozone layer itself.
The ozone is a gas in the atmosphere that protects all living things on Earth from damaging
ultraviolet rays that come from the sun. With the ozone layer depleting, it would be difficult for
anything to survive much longer or not at all. The ozone acts as a shield to protect living things
from absorbing the ultraviolet ray and keeps them from being damaged. Many man made materials
are causing the ozone layer to deplete at a faster rate. The author states, Emissions of chlorine and
bromine from CFCs and halons are to blame for excessive stratospheric ozone depletion(Ivanovich
and Calm). This type of emission is going into the atmosphere and is breaking down the ozone
layer. Consequently, this is resulting in the

Octavia Butler Bloodchild Summary
Octavia Butler, an African American author who uses her writing abilities to instill awareness
through a unique form of science fiction. Each of her novels and stories address issues and topics
that address issues that typically are discussed with a lot of tension from the feminist of the world.
Some of these issues include genderinequalities and gender norms. The short story that I decided
to read and write about is Bloodchild which is based on a romantic and controlling relationship
with humans and outer space creatures. This author switches the roles of the characters to opposite
of societal norms. The male character has the role of the female, so he is required to give birth and
the female character has taken the place of the male and has taken on the impregnating actions. The

Her science fiction novels are very fantasy based with real meanings behind them. Butler does this

very string creature with long arms. She often made people feel trapped. whole left row of T
Gatoi s limbs closed around her, holding her loosely, but securely...no one else in the family

same some women feel throughout their lives due to not being able to make their own choices
about how to live their lives. Instead society tells them what is needed to be done as a woman
not what is needed for themselves. Many women go through this oppression without even
knowing it. Society had forced women to overlook the way they are treated because the world we
live in is male based driven. Butler wants to change the way we see things, her goal is to change
the perception of what is socially

Marketing Strategy Concepts, Methodology, And Theory
In this part, related literatures about marketing strategy concepts, methodology, and theory, are
reviewed. These concepts, theory and methodology are the foundations of research design of this
work.
2.1Marketing strategy
The material world is objective while the people s psychologies are very subjective. The same
concepts from different people may mean different implications. The concepts of strategy tend to be
used in many scenarios and embody different meanings. The marketing strategy also has its specific
connotation and extensions. And there are some difference among the academic and practitioner
for this concepts. So, the marketing strategy concept needed clarification.
Grant (2011) defined the strategy as the means by which individuals and organizations to achieve
their goals. From our understanding, the means to achieve goals is the methodology to achieve
their goals. So, the critical part of marketing strategy is the policy and guideline of marketing which
based on the analysis of internal resource and external environments and competitor.
However, many other definitions of strategy are about the goals selection, Recourse allocation,
action procedure, and plans. Such as below definition:
The determination of the long run goals and objectives of an enterprise, and the adoption of
courses of action and the allocation of resources necessary for carrying out these goals Alfred

Lastly, international retailers engage in business in multiple countries. Examples of international
retailers include Zara and H M.
Targeting
As shown in Table 1, the target market of V shop is international clothing retailers, such as Zara, H
M, and Gap Incorporated because they are more profitable companies that have more resources to
put toward technology advancements, such as V Shop. When the consumers are shopping for
clothing online, V Shop will help efficiently distribute retailer s products downstream by providing
a full understanding of the clothes what they want to purchase for potential customers.
The reason why the target market for V shop is international retailers, rather than local or
domestic, is because of the likelihood of them being interested in the software. Considering their
high revenues, the bet is on their ability to risk with launching the service on their websites. For
instance, the sales in the apparel sector in 2016 for H M reached $192.267 billion, for Gap Inc.
$15.516 billion, including their Old Navy brand (The H M Group, 2016).
According to an annual survey, which polled over 5,000 consumers, by comScore and UPS in

The Health Care And Insurance Industries
Climate Change. Insurers are central to how we deal, or don t deal, with climate change. They
price the risk facing property owners, and others, from weather events. These companies could
become financially vulnerable if they fail to properly account for the risks they face from climate
change since it is about a $23 million global investment. Damage claims could rise significantly
when the atmosphere warms up due to the retention of moisture, which can cause more extreme

Laredo Ghost Stories
What you re about to read is one of the scariest real stories that happened in Laredo, Tx. It was
one Saturday night in October when Cesar and Vanessa were at Diego s house with nothing to do
other than just watch the T.v and play board games which they didn t want to do either of them.
Diego we should go somewhere that haunts since Halloween is right around the corner, said
Vanessa. Let s go to the haunted hospital, said Diego Which one, asked Cesar, I think it s called
Mercy Hospital, replied Diego. So they decided to go, but before they went, they gathered stuff that

as he got no response he turned around, and Vanessa was nowhere to be spotted. Where is she!
asked Cesar I don t know, responded Diego, so they turned back heading the way they had came
from looking for Vanessa, but she was nowhere to be found. As they kept walking, they could
hear a dripping sound and every time they walked more and more it would get louder and louder.
So they followed the noise, and as they did, they got terrified, and they started to tremble. So
they stopped and sat in some old scourge dirty chairs that were thrown on the ground so they can
calm down from the haunt that was happening, as they were sitting down they can smell an
earthy, metallic smell all over. Cesar what is that behind you it looks strange, questioned Diego
and as Cesar turned to see what it was, it was a gory cadaver, so they ran out till where they had

The ideal political encounter shouldn t resort to scaring people, it should be about inspiring

History And History Of Math
History of Math in Egypt We use math almost daily in our lives, but how many of us think about
the history of math? Math began with early humans in the form of scratches and was carried
into ancient Egypt and Greece (Mastin).Today, Egypt s population is roughly 94 million (The
World Factbook). However, back in 3000 BC, scholars estimate that between one to four million
people lived in the Nile River Valley. The Egyptians called this region Kemet which translates to
Black Land (O Connor and Robertson; Lesko 135 44). As society began to be more complex and
people began to trade for services and goods, a need for a counting system arose (O Connor and
Robertson). At the time, the Egyptians used hieroglyphs that only scribes could write... Show more

Twenty five problems are written on the papyrus and these were translated by Egyptologist
Vasily Vasilievich Struve. These problems use algebra as well as geometry (Gardener). The
Egyptians used and created many forms of math that we still use today. Their advancements in
both writing forms and mathematics help people today in more ways than they could have
imagined. Also, numerous things were discovered when Jean François Champollion in 1822
translated hieroglyphs for the first time (Lesko 135 44). Lastly, we no longer write in picture
symbols that few people can decipher and still use a base ten counting system. Math in Egypt
and Today The Egyptians utilized many forms of math in their daily lives. Among these were
various algebra and geometry problems(Gardner). Around 2700 BC, a base ten counting system
that used different symbols such as a stroke for the number one, a heel bone symbol for 10, a
coil of rope for 100, and a lotus plant for 1,000 was developed (Mastin). Base ten is a numbering
system that uses a decimal for any number smaller than one. Once a number exceeds nine it
moves to the next place (the tens place) (Russel). Furthermore, the Egyptians could also estimate
the area of a circle by guessing that if the area of a circle with a diameter of nine units was close
to the area of a square with sides of eight units, that the area of that circle could be calculated by
multiplying the diameter by 8вЃ„9 and then squaring it (Mastin). In order to find the

The Complex Structure of the Visual Organ of the Human Body
The visual organ of the human body is a specialized structure designed to receive and process
light into images that can be perceived by the brain and is commonly known as the eye.
Structurally, the eye is a globular unit that can be generally divided into an anterior segment
composed of an anterior and posterior chamber or internal cavities filled with of thin, transparent
fluid called the aqueous humor and a posterior segment filled with a clear, jelly like substance
referred to as the vitreous body (Abrahams, 2002). Surrounding these two polarized segments are
three concentric layers that form the external wall of the eyecalled the fibrous layer, vascular layer,
and sensory or inner layer. Each layer of the eye is composed of specialized components such as
the sclera and cornea in the fibrous layer, the choroid, ciliary body, and retinain the vascular layer,
and the retina and optic nerve which comprise the sensory or innermost layer. As each of these
structures within the eye performs an integral function that contributes to one s sense of vision,
while others have a supplementary specialized role to protect the eye, impairing any one of these
components via trauma or damage to the eye leads to a severe reduction in visual faculty. Damage
to the retina, specifically, can cause a condition called retinal detachmentwhereas the name denotes,
the retina becomes detached from an underlying layer of pigmented epithelium cells known as the

For this experiment, our hypothesis was that if we used sweatshirt fabric, then it will cause the UV
bead to have the lightest color, opposed to having fabric from the middle part of a hat, and t shirt

The control date remained the same throughout the experiment. Each indicator bead stayed at 5 on
the UV color guide. The experimental data varied. The beads that were under the sweatshirt and
the t shirt fabric had a 2 on the UV color guide, while the hat fabric had a 1. First, I said that the
sweatshirt fabric would make the bead have the lowest number on the UV color guide. I was
wrong because the sweatshirt fabric scored a 2. Next, my hypothesis said that the t shirt fabric
would cause the bead to have a darker color than the sweatshirt fabric. That was incorrect because
the t shirt also scored a 2, just like the sweatshirt. Furthermore, my hypothesis also stated that the
hat would make the bead have a darker color. That wasn t right because the hat made the bead

The Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs....
The Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson reveals that the ghastly
depiction of the Indian religion (or what Rowlandson perceives as a lack of religion) in the
narrative is directly related to the ideologies of her Puritan upbringing. Furthermore, Rowlandson s
experiences in captivity and encounter with the new, or Other religionof the Indians cause her
rethink, and question her past; her experiences do not however cause her to redirect her life or
change her ideals in any way. The function of religion plays a significant role in the narrative,

It is clear that Mary Rowlandson s encounter with the Other causes her to doubt her past,
specifically her devotion to God. At the end of the narrative Rowlandson confirms this claim
with the remark: When I lived in prosperity; having the comforts of this World about me, my
Relations by me, and my heart cheerful: and taking little care for any thing; and yet seeing many
(whom I preferred before myself) under many trials and afflictions, in sickness, weakness,
poverty, losses, crosses, and cares of the Worlds, I should be sometimes jealous least I should

(50). The evidence from the narrative in many ways could characterize this work as a text in which
the narrator (Mary Rowlandson) realizes her mistakes in the past and redirects her life accordingly.
This is not true in the case of Rowlandson, to be more specific her experiences and interaction with
the Indians do not challenge her Puritan ideologies, but rather confirms and strengthens them.
When the narrator returns to her former lifestyle she in no way demonstrates any new knowledge
from her experience, but rather returns home with the same degree of ignorance that she had before
her captivity. Rowlandson also contradicts herself in

The Creative Explosion By John Pfeiffer Essay
In the book, The Creative Explosion, John Pfeiffer addressed the issue of human origin, their
cultures, their religion, and social power. It takes into account the prehistoric art and how cave
painting has exploded over the years. This book can also be used to bring a deeper understanding
of the then cold war, the war on drugs, and the war on the common crimes in the modern world.
The book also puts into light the irony of how smart our ancestors were, despite their primitivism.
The way the ancestors used to spend their time also carried a major topic of discussion in the book.
Hunting and gathering are also considered important in the transformation of humanbeings culture.
This book offers an incredible account of the prehistoric times to the reader. It accurately explains
how cave arts evolved into the way in which human beings learned to express themselves in the
following historical advancements and cultures. It creates a link between the artistic ways of
expression and its relation to cultural ceremonies and practices during the ancient world. John
Pfeiffer tries to explain the human origin in a way that attracts readers to want more and more
information for the origin of humankind from the first form of hominids to the most current form
of humanity; Homo sapiens. The main purpose of the book is to show the importance of history in
the modern lives by learning how humans transformed. It puts into light the fact that, no human
being or a group of humans has a monopoly

Renewable Energy Sources And Fossil Fuel Consumption
Renewable energy sources and fossil fuel consumption are among the most controversial topics on
the news today, and they are among the most highly debated political topics in America. Countries
throughout the world are competing to develop the most effective and efficient renewable energy
sources in order to replace fossil fuels. The benefits of renewable energyare their fuel source never
runs out and their fuel source is natural, as opposed to fossil fuels that are running out and create
dangerous pollutants. Currently, the most effective and efficient renewable energy sources
hydroelectric energy, wind energy, geothermal energy, nuclear energy, and solar energy
work by
harnessing energy from a different part of the environment and converting it into electricity.
Currently, a debate exists over whether or not these energy sources are able to sustain America.
The United States of America consists of roughly 132,000,000 houses, millions of stores, and
thousands of large buildings (USA). Each of these buildings requires electricity, measured in
kilowatt hours, to sustain itself. On average, one house uses 10,837 kilowatt hours every year.
This means that the houses alone in America use around 1,435,867,000 kilowatt hours of
electricity per year (How Much). This is the same amount of electricity that would be needed to
run a large hospital, such as Central Dupage Hospital, for over 76 years (Energy). The amount of
energy that America needs every year is massive; it

Some might say that Louis s womanizing ways just caught up to him and caused his death.
Personally I believe this was the real reason that makes Eve as a killer, because it was her who
made the husband of a woman with whom her father had an affair to think that he was being
betrayed by his wife. In addition to the story, despite the death of Louis Batiste, perhaps as a
result of Eve s plotting, the film comes to a strange sort of happy ending. Eve learns to live with
what she has done. Cisely recovers from her depression. Even Mozelle gets another husband,
though whether he falls victim to the curse we never know. Although Eve s Bayou takes place in
the context of a social milieu i.e. every character is
the product of a heritage of interplay between blacks and whites, it is not a film that engages

of their lives that might have racial significance interest in voodoo, dialect, varied skin tones are

The Long Term Dispute Over Which Is Better, East Coast Vs....
The long term dispute over which is better, east coast vs. west coast, will undoubtedly continue
until this country no longer exists. While both coasts offer travelers and natives a variety of places
to eat, things to do, and places to see, California, North Carolina, and South Carolina want to put
their states on the map with their interesting history and ways of living. Due to so much variety on
each coast, there is something on each side for everyone. More often than not, people picture
California and the Carolinas to be polar opposites. This way of thinking comes from the idea that
Hollywood, the city of dreams, consumes California entirely. Consequently, travelers must dig deep
to find the hidden gems throughout each state. There will always be more than what meets the eye.
There are hundreds of military bases throughout the United States of America. California and the
Carolinas contribute to that statistic. Home to almost 30 different bases, California boasts the
most commonly known Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Camp Pendleton, Marine Corps
Recruit Depot San Diego, and the Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, home to the Navy SEALS.
One of the very prevalent military communities within California is San Diego. There is an
overwhelming sense of pride in the Armed Forces around every corner in what is a relatively large
city. North and South Carolina are very familiar with that same sense of pride.

When a thing, which has always been in the same place for years and we have forgotten all
about it, gets moved we notice immediately. We become confused and we look at the thing in a
whole new way because of its new place in e.g. our living room. These changes in our everyday
life make an impression on us and that is exactly what happens to Charlie Stowe in the short story I
Spy when he realises that his father is not who he always thought he was. One day his father is the
thing that gets a new place in the room Charlie s life.

His father is in the frame and by stepping out of it, he changes his place in Charlie s life and Charlie
notices immediately that his father is not unimportant, but actually the most important to him. This
revelation is something Charlie discovers after having been in the shop. Before he went down the
stairs that night he hated his father and the staircase can symbolize that development from hating to
loving his father.
Charlie has a whole new impression of his father when he has stepped out of the frame, and that
is what happens to us all when a thing or person are removed from their place in our room. We

Statement Of Purpose Of Becoming A Registered Nurse
Prior to my sophomore year I was honestly clueless of what I wanted to do, but as soon as I
discovered that I wanted a career in the medical field I intended to do anything I could that would
help me achieve my goal that is to first become a Registered Nurse. I took more vigorous classes,
classes that would help my career, as well as by doing running start.
Currently as I mentioned, I am a running start student at Wenatchee Valley College, and am
working towards not only my associates degree but also towards becoming a Registered Nurse. I
intend to later on transfer to the University of Washington to further major either in Pediatrics as a
pediatric nurse or in Kinesiology as an occupational therapist.

Volkswagen of America: Managing IT priorities
Volkswagen, as the name suggests means people s car and defines its objectives to design and
manufacture cars which are fuel efficient and affordable. With continuous improvement,
Volkswagen has not only subjugated the automotive market with respect to its low priced cars, but
also earned industry acknowledgement. The core competency of Volkswagenis structured to build
customer loyalty. Although, Volkswagen suffered from erratic sales pattern when the company
introduced a new model commonly called as the Himalayas chart due to its rise and falls (Austin,

Moreover the internet based communication through this enterprise system made it easy for the
ELT to coordinate their activities through a single point of governance between the consultants of
gedasUSA and other e business teams. Thus this communication facilitated by the e business teams
through the development of web applications to administer their IT projects strengthened
Volkswagens operations.
IT alignment is crucial for the growth of businesses and in the case of Volkswagen with several
independent units, the alignment of their business with IT is more needed. This is because with the
implementation of IT, it would be more conducive for Volkswagen to record and comprehend sales
figures. Also the communication between these units is needed as they are not integrated
throughout the enterprise so a technology based communication platform is required to align their
business strategies. This alignment was achieved to some extent by the establishment of the
Business Process, Technology and Organization (BPTO) which was an internal IT department to
manage and prioritize IT projects in coordination with the IT steering committee (ITSC) which
comprised of senior business and IT representative to guide the approval of the process. I feel that

Causes And Effects Of Climate Change
Climate Change
Climate change is an ever growing danger to us and the planet and the effects of it will be
catastrophic. Climate change will make the global temperatures rise which will melt the polar ice
caps putting many species at risk for extinction, it will also cause much stronger hurricanes and
tornados and other weather related problems, and the scary part is; there currently is no real
marketable solution to climate change that would not lower our living standards to what we had
before the industrial revolution. Scientists are convinced that if climate change is not stopped or at
least weakened by the year 2050, there will be no more polar ice in the north and south poles
and there may be no snow in the winter; which I find very concerning because this of course has
drastic effects. I am afraid that arctic animals like the polar bear, reindeer, arctic fox, seal,
narwhal and many more will become extinct and our great grandchildren won t be able to
experience them like we were able to. Scientists also say that the sea levels will most likely rise
4ft by the year 2100 and I know that does not sound too bad, but trust me it is because may
coastal cities and small villages located near the current sea level will because uninhabitable for us
and other land animals. This would negatively affect 100 s of thousands of people and a lot of
precious and rare ecosystems will be unfortunately destroyed.
I feel like another bad thing about climate change is the fact that the weather will change in
negative ways like making hurricanes and tornados much stronger and harder to combat which
puts millions upon millions of people s lives at risk.and will cost countries billions of dollars to
repair the damages caused by these stronger storms and if that is not enough, floods will also
become a lot more common do the rising sea levels and the increase in storms which can be
deadly. I believe one of the worst effects on the weather due to climate change is that fact that it
will create more droughts due to the high increases to the global temperatures and these droughts
will have severe effects on the people living in that area because typically when a drought is taking
place, growing food is next to impossible which

Immigration Argumentative Essay
When immigration was controlled, measured, and coupled with a confident approach to
assimilation, America not only survived but thrived. Various ethnic groups enriched America with
diverse art, food, music, and literature while accepting a common culture of American values and
institutions (Hanson). America has always been known for being a melting pot, considering it is a
country filled with many diversities. Little do we know that with diversity arises many problematic
situations. Although there are many people who strive to find common ground, it seems that with
the way ignorant people think, we will never really find it.
The prevalence of immigration has increased in the past couple of years, but recently, there are
upcoming regulations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Immigrants have also developed and improved technologies and companies because most are
engineers, scientists, and innovators looking for a way to improve the lives of many and to make
an impact in the world. According to the Census Bureau, immigrants take up 33 percent of
engineers, 27 percent of mathematicians, statisticians, and computer scientist, and 24 percent of
physical scientists. Additionally, immigrant innovators have contributed to more than 75 percent of
patents in universities. There is an ongoing controversy that claims immigrants are taking
Americans jobs , but that is not the case. Most immigrants are actually more than willing to do
twice the work that Americans are not in the job forces that they are placed in. This is because the
difference of wages. For example, compensation in the US for a manufacturing job is actually six
times higher than in Mexico. Despite some of the mistreatment and poor working conditions,
immigrants are still willing to put in twice the effort so they can benefit themselves and their
families. Immigration should not be prohibited in the United States because it is a fundamental part
of the very foundation that this country was built on. Immigration fuels our economy, creates more
jobs, and shapes how the rest of the world views the United States. This country is part of a
constantly shifting culture and to strip this place of immigrants would also strip this country s
diversity and

Cca-Otic Gel
CCA OTIC GEL CCA Otic Gel is a bioadhesive, thermoreversible poloxamer gel. Various
medications can be incorporated into the gel to provide therapeutic effects. At cold temperatures,
it remains a liquid, however, at room temperature, it converts into a gel. When CCA Otic Gel is
administered in the liquid form, it transforms to a gel which contours and adheres to the ear
canal. Consequently, the length of time the medication is in contact with the affected areas is
prolonged. A 1.5ml liquid dose applied in each affected ear transforms into a bioadhesive gel
layer on the surface of the ear canal in approximately 3 to 4 seconds. Additionally, this gel will
keep the medication in contact with the affected areas for 5 7 days. Typically

Biblical Worldview of my Chosen Vocation
Introduction
The way we see God influences everything we do in life the way we treat each other (as individuals
being created in God s image), our stewardship of God s creation, our understanding of our
vocation as a way to glorify (Etzel and Gutierrez, p.3). If I were to choose just two examples of
how man was created in the image of God, I would have to choose integrity and moral ethics. Upon
completion of my B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis on Leadership, I will enter the
business world that requires both examples.
Integrity
Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral convictions. He never sinned, nor
ever deceived anyone (New Living Translation ,1 Peter 2.22). I was made in the image of God
and he spoke the truth and kept His word. Leaders know that honesty and integrity are the
foundations of leadership. Leaders stand up for what they believe in. Leaders with integrity may
not be the most famous or flashy of leaders, and they don t care. Integrity means doing the right
thing because it is the right thing to do. Neither should we become antagonistic or agnostic to the
existence of truth. Jesus said the Word of God is truth, and that is a great starting point for us
(Etzel and Gutierrez, p.23). The book of Proverbs provides an abundance of verses on integrity.
He who walks in integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways will be found out
(Proverbs 10.9). A person that has integrity will have a good reputation and not have to fear that
he or she will be exposed as a person that can t be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Description And Analysis Of The Run Time Pattern
Overview: This section describes the interpretation and analysis of the results from both of the
experiments. The analysis is based upon the comparison of the theories against the results of the
experiment, whether the results support or reject the theory. This section consists of the following
analysis: comparison of the run time pattern in three times execution, comparison of the overall run
time using an arithmetic mean approach and error analysis.
Run Time Pattern in Three Executions
MySQL (non cluster) had a stable pattern within three executions, while Hadoop did not. According
to my investigation, it caused by the following reason: I executed MySQL (non cluster) through
SSH window, whereas Hadoop was executed through Ambari client browser. The connection
through SSH did not use Internet public network, while client browser used it. In other words, the
public Internet network only affected client browser.
Based on 10 times bandwidth measurement (appendix F), the Internet speed was unstable. The
Internet speed was unstable because it was a public network. As a public Internet network used by
other people as well, the speed of the network was depending on the high/low network traffic. The
traffic of public network was unpredictable: some users might do heavy activities at one time, and
few seconds later the users did not do anything.
Hence, the instability of public Internet speed caused the instability of the total time taken of
Hadoop s activities. MySQL (non

The Discovery Of The Network Devices
1.Describe the steps you would take to determine the needs of the organization (the discovery of the
network devices)
As a consultant that was brought in to determine the needs of the organization, the primary starting
point is content discovery. The art of content discovery is to get an understanding of the business,
its network structure, organizational requirements and the resources that are available. Because the
number one rule in all problem solving manifests, is first to know and get an understand the
problem, the problem that you are tasked with or trying to solve.
Therefore, the first element of content discovery is to get an understanding of the organization.
Who is the company, what industry do they operate in, what services or products do they provide,
what is their mission statement, what are their daily operations, are many of the questions that
needs to be answered, often times before the job starts. The second element is to understand the
organization from an internal point of view. It starts with understanding the structure of the
organization, getting a high level organization chart to help determine the divisional structure of the
organization, their communication methods, the Service Level Agreements that they have in place,
and their geographical profile in order to know whether there are additional sites in other regions.
The next step within the second element is to get the structure and technical level of local and
remote IT divisions, their

With the expansion of it services, the CDC began to train public health staff on how to identify
diseases that were a threat to the general public and how to protect the public from those diseases.
The organization later found the need to expand their functions and with that expansion the agency
evolved into what is now known as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Its mission is to:
to protect America from health, safety and security threats, both foreign and in the U.S. Whether
diseases start at home or abroad, are chronic or acute, curable or preventable, human error or
deliberate attack, CDC fights disease and supports communities and citizens to do the same. CDC

lives and protects people from health threats. To accomplish our mission, CDC conducts critical
science and provides health information that protects our nation against expensive and dangerous

The Problem with Presidential Primaries
The Problem with Presidential Primaries
Ever since the election season of 1972, presidential primaries have become the dominant means of
selecting the two major party candidates. i[i] The primary system is one in which the eligible
voters of each state do one of the following: 1) Vote for a presidential candidateto run for their
party in the general election. 2) Vote for a delegate pledged to vote for a certain candidate at the
party s national convention. As intended, this process would bring the candidate selection processes
out into the open and let the people vote for the candidate of their choice. ii[ii] On the surface, this
may look very democratic (and admittedly, in some instances it was/is), but upon closer ... Show

Standing in his way was the fact that only one of the early primary states had a true open primary
Michigan. Both New Hampshire and South Carolina were considered modified open primaries
iii[iii] that tended to discourage Independent voting. In addition, Delaware and Arizona were closed
primaries that would not allow Independents or Democrats to vote. However, despite the closed
primary, McCain s home state of Arizona was essentially a lock.
Due to heavy campaigning, McCain was able to win New Hampshire by a 48% to 30% iv[iv]
margin. George W. Bush emphatically won the closed Delaware primary by a 51% to 25% v[v]
margin. Bush then went on to win in South Carolina s modified open primary by a 53% to 42%
vi[vi] margin, thus robbing McCain s hopes of gaining momentum. Despite this, McCain did get
back on the winning track with wins in Michigan s open primary and in Arizona s closed primary.
Victories aside, McCain was still going against the mainstream Republicans who were backing
Bush. The structure of the primaries early in the season allowed McCain to make a name for
himself, but the fact that closed primaries worked and would continue to work against him made
winning the nomination extremely difficult.

Summary Of Working With Emotional Intelligence

Declaration of Sentiments by Elizabeth Cady
Over the course of many years, women have struggled to expand their roles and rights in society,
hoping to one day achieve complete equality with their male counterparts. Two women, Elizabeth
Cady Stanton and Judy (Syfers) Brady, both recognized the patriarchal society in which women had
to endure. They despised the way it heaped inequality and servitude upon women, and decided to
assert their opinion on the issue in order to change the perceptions and imposed limitations on
women. In Stanton s speech, Declaration of Sentiments, and in Brady s article, I Want a Wife , both
women attempt to convince their audiences that females deserve complete equality with men by
stating the submissive situations and obligations women find themselves immersed in. This is done
to get their female audiences to reevaluate how they have been treated and give them a second
chance at attaining equality. Both women employ various rhetorical techniques in their arguments
to strengthen, as well as compel other women to oppose the domesticated image of women.
Elizabeth Cady Stantonand Judy (Syfers) Brady expressed their views in pursuance of forging a
path to a revamped lifestyle for women. In Judy (Syfers) Brady s article, I Want a Wife , she
expresses her opinions in a satirical commentary that offers hypothetical criteria for an ideal wife,
with an underlying message that deals with how people should be grateful for all of the deeds and
chores that women do. Brady utilizes the strategy of

Seal Hunting Essay
The seal hunt has been a controversial topic in Canada for many years. The argument over it is if it
should be allowed and continued, or stopped once and for all. The species of seals killed are the
Harp Seals. Most of the harp seals killed are 12 days old to 3 months old because that is when
they have the most fur and are more defenseless compared to an adult seal. However, those are
also the seals that are going to grow up and breed for the harp seal population when all the old
ones pass away. So when a sealer clubs and slaughter a baby seal, you re basically not only killing
1 seal, but also maybe even a whole potential family. The government supports the hunt, and the
people who are actually killing the seals are called Sealers. ... Show more content on

The Inuit favor adult ring seals, while sealers hunt for baby harp seals usually. A letter by
Arnaituk M. Tarkik, an Inuit man, clearly states his opposition. He writes, We are skillful
hunters who hunt adult animals for food, that is not the same as bashing a pup, which can t
move, over the head. And in fact, if the seal hunt stopped, we would benefit the most. There
would be 180,000 more seals left for us to eat when they are a few years older. So as you can see,
whether it s Inuit s or Celebrities, everybody rather then the government and sealers want this
barbaric slaughter to finish once and for all. After hearing so much negative effects the seal hunt
has on people, imagine how cruel the seals have it. Baby seals are being clubbed and shot for really
no reason at all. A reason why sealers argue that the hunt is beneficial because seals provide a good
source of omega 3, the reality is you can get omega 3 without killing an innocent life. Omega 3 can
come from other natural sources like walnuts and flax seeds. Also, after a seal is skinned most of
the seal goes to waste. The fur is sold globally and the oil is sold as a health supplement. 80 % of
the Blubber is discarded, and the meat is left to rot on the ice. If people are going to kill 12 day old
defenseless seals, they should at least make sure that the whole seal is used. But

  • 2. Visual Culture Of Coca Cola And Mcdonalds Visual culture is the use of images, media, and other visual modes to represent the events and ideas of the world (Mirzoeff, 1999). The visual modes can range from an oil painting, to media on the internet, advertisements or TV. Visual culture has an influence on the consumer who is exposed to it. In this essay, I am looking specifically at how visual culture is used in advertisements, and how large brands, such as Coca Cola and McDonalds, use visual culture throughout their advertisements. Visual culture is often used to benefit a business. Such as increasing brand recognition through the marketing of the brand via colour or imagery. It can also be through catchy slogans or jingles that are created to leave an impression and therefore influence the consumer to the extent that they are remembered for a significant period of time. Therefore, it can be seen that Coca Cola and McDonalds both use different forms of visual culture in order to improve company image and increase brand recognition. Coca Cola have often used different forms of visual culture in their advertisements in order to portray their product and company in certain ways, such as their manipulation of the Santa Clause character and image, and their use of colours in their visuals. Coca Cola has taken the cultural image of Santa Clause and made it a focal point in many of their advertisements. Before Coca Cola first featured Santa in their advertisements in the early 1930 s, the character s image was very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Fiction or Nonfiction, War Has the Same Effect Essays A true war story is not always true. Some would say a true war story is an experience from war. Others, who came from war, would say they make up stories to make war seem crazier than it really is. Tim O Brian states that the story is fiction, but the moral is true. Tracy Kidder had written war stories based on his time in Vietnam, and his book is rated as nonfiction, even though he admits that some war stories are made up. Contained within The Things They Carried, is a story by a man named Mitchell Sanders. Sanders tells a story about a group of soldiers that camped on a listening mission, and all they did was listen. They heard many different noises, and paranoia hit them. They ordered airstrikes on the motionless, noisy ground, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fact that Bill s major wound is from being drunk doesn t help with the believing part. Bill later states that he may have made some pieces up to make his stories sound exciting (Kidder 8). He doesn t want to seem like the loser that did nothing in the war. He wants to be the hero, but the more lies he tells, the more he believes them. Between the two stories, they are both believable, but they both have a possibility of being false. In Sanders story, He explains a very detailed story of soldiers hallucinating strange noises after doing nothing but laying and listening (O Brien 74). This seems true because people can tend to go insane if they do nothing for about a week. The piece that makes this unbelievable is the fact that Sanders says he made the story up, but the moral is true. Bill s story seems true, because people do not know what to expect from war, except for dreadful moments, and Bill s losing of his good friend is a dreadful moment indeed (Kidder 8). The drawback about Bill s story is the fact that his greatest wound happened when he was drunk, so the question is if Bill made his story up to make himself look better. According to O Brien, a true war story isn t always true. The story can be completely false, but the point the writer/speaker is trying to get across could be the greatest advice a person could receive. The key to listening to a war story is to listen, just like Sanders story (O Brien 74). Also, The moral of a true war ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Pope, Jordan, and Religious Tourism Case One: The Pope, Jordan, and Religious Tourism pg. 39 For JTB the best target market would be pilgrims from foreign countries, where there would be large amount of Christian pilgrims interested in coming to Jordan to see Jordan River where Jesus was baptized. Targeting Christians in Jordan would be not as effective as in Rome, because in Jordanthere are only 4% residents with Christian religion. In my opinion Nayef Fayez should have a wider view on world and target people places where people would be most interested, instead of spending marketing budget in near demographic regions. For example if they would target European Countries and America s where there are a lot of Christians they would have much more success, as well as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Blond hair has nothing to do with a religion and interest in religion. Nitches have to be defined that would bring benefit from both company and customer, and filled accordingly. Promotion, Place, Product, Price can be figured out only if market is correctly segmented and enough research is done. For example if we take as an example Christians, from Rome, age of 60+ with income of 2000 Euro s as money they can spend per month for leisure activities, we would have to find out which way is best way to communicate with the potential costumer, and importantly how? Internet is accessed not by everyone in this age group, they prefer to socialize and receive information by phone or from other people. By phone it can be not realistic, and easy to end conversation for potential customer, as well as in some countries marketing by phone is illegal. Who are their opinion leaders? Most likely they look up and have good relationships with priests in the nearby churches where they go, there handouts can be distributed or information spread directly from priests. That would give us Place and a way to promote our product to this particular segment. Product itself would have to be a description where they can stay, what services are available, would they enjoy an early morning walk to the secret place or a ride on a car? This ... • 5. Appliance Maker the Challenge Case 1: Appliance maker The challenge Senior executives at a large, low cost manufacturer of appliances and white goods were concerned about the sluggish performance of the company s household fan business. It had long been among the top leading players in the company s home country an emerging market but was now losing domestic share in two important, and fiercely competitive, product categories. The company s leaders suspected that a stagnant product portfolio was partly to blame; they had been focusing a considerable amount of attention on operations and had neglected to revisit fan designs for a couple of years. Meanwhile, an innovative upstart, also from an emerging market, had begun competing with the manufacturer, both at home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet the teardown showed that as compared with competitors, the company was overbuilding its products significantly and that identical or even better product performance was possible at a lower cost if the team was willing to rethink its design approaches. Some of the resulting design changes were quite straightforward and even, in retrospect, obvious. Yet the team acknowledged that the new ideas didn t click until the teardown, when the evidence was spread out on the table for discussion. By modifying the cover of one type of household fan, for example, the team made it unnecessary to include an internal bracket assembly that had supported the original cover a savings of 7 percent per unit. This change, like most cost saving opportunities the team identified, was invisible to customers and didn t matter to them (for an example of one model, see diagram). Many of the individual cost saving opportunities the team identified were small. But the collective impact was huge helping the company to reduce the total cost of manufacturing its fans by more than 10 percent, against a cost base that was already quite competitive. Meanwhile, consumers received the new designs well, and that contributed to a 50 percent jump in operating profit in the first year of their introduction and helped elevate the company to the number two spot in the market (up from number three) over that time span. They are greater than any one man or idea; they are a living organization that adapts to change and emerges along with its environment. Visionary companies are the survivalists of the industry. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Little can be said about visionary companies without citing the works of James C. Collins and Jerry I. Porras. Collins and Porras dedicated six years to research in an attempt to define a visionary company. Their published work, Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies (199?), blanketed the world of business with a new perspective. According to Brewer s (1995) interview, Collins defines a visionary company as follows: It s one that has sustained performance over long periods of time, and is a premier institution in its industry. Any industry will have successful companies, but every once in a while, you ll find a company to which everybody will look and say, quot; That is a very special company. quot; The visionary companies have had a significant impact on the world. For better or worse, they ve affected our lives. • 7. Chemical Synapse The chemical synapse allows for the communication between 2 nerve cells when an AP reaches the end of the axon and the signal subsequently modulates a postsynaptic membrane potential. This occurs at neuronal connection points the synapses. These consist of the axon terminals belonging to the sender cell (presynaptic neuron) and the dendritic spine heads of the receiver cell (postsynaptic neuron). Between them lies the synaptic cleft. At the chemical synapse, the electrical signal (AP) is converted into a chemical signal, in order to cross this synaptic divide. The extracellular fluid therein poses a physical obstacle for the AP that is, unless it manages to temporarily morph into a chemical courier (neurotransmitter). Thereafter, postsynaptic ion channels (re)turn the latter (in)to its electrical form. To switch the chemical signal off, the neurotransmitter is removed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This triggers a fusion of small vesicles (neurotransmitter containers) with the presynaptic membrane. The vesicles burst and release the neurotransmitter into the synaptic cleft (exocytosis), where it travels towards and docks at its specific receptor on the postsynaptic membrane. These receptors are directly connected to an ion channel, which thereupon opens (lock key principle). A Na/K channel, for example, initiates a high influx of Na+ and a slight efflux of K+ ions at the postsynaptic membrane. The latter then depolarizes and generates an AP an electrical signal passed on along a postsynaptic dendrite. But some neurotransmitter like GABA, for example, will not trigger a postsynaptic depolarization (Dnalc.org, n.d.). When GABA docks at its receptors, K /Cl channels open. K+ ions flow out of, while Cl ions enter the cell. Thus, the negative charge inside the cell increases and the membrane is hyperpolarized. An inhibitory postsynaptic potential is triggered and an AP ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Puritans In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter In Nathaniel Hawthorne s, The Scarlet Letter, the Puritans are depicted as a sad and uniform group of people. Hawthorne never explicitly states his negative views towards the Puritans, rather he chooses to imply these views through his diction, color symbolism, comparing and contrasting, and his use of irony. In the first chapter, Hawthorne describes the Puritans as, a throng of bearded men, in sad colored garments and gray, steeple crowned hats, intermixed with women, some wearing hoods... (55). Hawthorne, using the color gray, portrays the Puritans as depressing and rigid people. The color gray is often used to represent people with sangfroid and is also associated with conformity. Gray also has a subduing effect on other colors in the same way that the Puritans try to control Hester s heterodox behavior. By depicting the men and women as indistinguishable, Hawthorne further criticizes the Puritan uniformity and attempt to hide human nature. As a Romantic, Hawthorne believed that nature was superior to society and in nature nothing is uniform, so when the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The townspeople revere Dimmesdale for his outward piety but fail to recognize his secret sin. Hawthorne portrays the Puritans as shallow with only an understanding of outwardly appearances. He also uses irony when the Puritans interpret the great red letter in the sky... for Angel (153). The letter A was previously given to Hester with the putative meaning of adulteress, now Hawthorne gives the scarlet letter to Dimmesdale. Prevention strategies for sexual offending behavior have become increasingly important in the United States. The Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) provides a comprehensive set of minimum standards for sex offenderregistration and notification in the United States. It aims to close potential gaps and loopholes that existed under prior law and generally strengthens the nationwide network of sex offender registration and notification programs. Half of the parolees wore GPS monitoring devices and received traditional parole supervision, this involved regular contact by parole agents and weekly sex offender treatment classes. The other half received only traditional parole supervision. Researchers tracked each parolee for one year following his initial parole date. The research showed that the members of the traditional group committed new crimes and had their parole revoked more often than did parolees in the GPS group. If that wasn t enough, the traditional group returned to custody at a rate 38 percent higher than the GPS group. Essay On Submarines In The Civil War Submarines in the Civil War Bridger Barnes Submarines in the civil war are important because submarines were new during that time ,and submarines could change the war for either side. IT helped shape the way we fight wars. It also helped shape the way we fight a war today. It also helped change the whole mindset of war. History One of the first submarines was built in 1623 and it was ordered by King James the first. The sub was built by Cornelius Drebbel. According to accounts from that time period it appeared to be a large enclosed rowboat using twelve oarsmen for propulsion. The troposphere layer is where a lot of human activity occurs, such as planes and mountain climbing. The next layer is the stratosphere and this is where the ozone layer is located as well. The ozone layer helps protect people from ultraviolet radiation that mainly come from the sun. The ozone layer can be different depending on the season and the location. Over the past few years, the ozone layer has been depleting because of human activity. The main issue of the depletion of the ozone layer is the man made products that have been created and has cause bad effect on the ozone layer itself. The ozone is a gas in the atmosphere that protects all living things on Earth from damaging ultraviolet rays that come from the sun. With the ozone layer depleting, it would be difficult for anything to survive much longer or not at all. The ozone acts as a shield to protect living things from absorbing the ultraviolet ray and keeps them from being damaged. Many man made materials are causing the ozone layer to deplete at a faster rate. Personally I believe this was the real reason that makes Eve as a killer, because it was her who made the husband of a woman with whom her father had an affair to think that he was being betrayed by his wife. In addition to the story, despite the death of Louis Batiste, perhaps as a result of Eve s plotting, the film comes to a strange sort of happy ending. Eve learns to live with what she has done. Cisely recovers from her depression. Even Mozelle gets another husband, though whether he falls victim to the curse we never know. Although Eve s Bayou takes place in the context of a social milieu i.e. every character is the product of a heritage of interplay between blacks and whites, it is not a film that engages racial issues. Rather it works in the individual realms of the individual characters. The long term dispute over which is better, east coast vs. west coast, will undoubtedly continue until this country no longer exists. While both coasts offer travelers and natives a variety of places to eat, things to do, and places to see, California, North Carolina, and South Carolina want to put their states on the map with their interesting history and ways of living. Due to so much variety on each coast, there is something on each side for everyone. More often than not, people picture California and the Carolinas to be polar opposites. This way of thinking comes from the idea that Hollywood, the city of dreams, consumes California entirely. Consequently, travelers must dig deep to find the hidden gems throughout each state. There will always be more than what meets the eye. There are hundreds of military bases throughout the United States of America. California and the Carolinas contribute to that statistic. Climate change will make the global temperatures rise which will melt the polar ice caps putting many species at risk for extinction, it will also cause much stronger hurricanes and tornados and other weather related problems, and the scary part is; there currently is no real marketable solution to climate change that would not lower our living standards to what we had before the industrial revolution. Scientists are convinced that if climate change is not stopped or at least weakened by the year 2050, there will be no more polar ice in the north and south poles and there may be no snow in the winter; which I find very concerning because this of course has drastic effects. I am afraid that arctic animals like the polar bear, reindeer, arctic fox, seal, narwhal and many more will become extinct and our great grandchildren won t be able to experience them like we were able to. Scientists also say that the sea levels will most likely rise 4ft by the year 2100 and I know that does not sound too bad, but trust me it is because may coastal cities and small villages located near the current sea level will because uninhabitable for us and other land animals. This would negatively affect 100 s of thousands of people and a lot of precious and rare ecosystems will be unfortunately destroyed. I feel like another bad thing about climate change is the fact that the weather will change in negative ways like making hurricanes and tornados much stronger and harder to combat which puts millions upon millions of people s lives at risk.and will cost countries billions of dollars to repair the damages caused by these stronger storms and if that is not enough, floods will also become a lot more common do the rising sea levels and the increase in storms which can be deadly. I believe one of the worst effects on the weather due to climate change is that fact that it will create more droughts due to the high increases to the global temperatures and these droughts will have severe effects on the people living in that area because typically when a drought is taking place, growing food is next to impossible which ... My Chosen Vocation Paper Dustin Webster Dr. George Bannister Theology 104 B42 12 June 2016 Biblical Worldview of my Chosen Vocation Introduction The way we see God influences everything we do in life the way we treat each other (as individuals being created in God s image), our stewardship of God s creation, our understanding of our vocation as a way to glorify (Etzel and Gutierrez, p.3). If I were to choose just two examples of how man was created in the image of God, I would have to choose integrity and moral ethics. Upon completion of my B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis on Leadership, I will enter the business world that requires both examples. Integrity Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral convictions. He never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone (New Living Translation ,1 Peter 2.22). I was made in the image of God and he spoke the truth and kept His word. Leaders know that honesty and integrity are the foundations of leadership. Leaders stand up for what they believe in. Leaders with integrity may not be the most famous or flashy of leaders, and they don t care. Integrity means doing the right thing because it is the right thing to do. Neither should we become antagonistic or agnostic to the existence of truth. Jesus said the Word of God is truth, and that is a great starting point for us (Etzel and Gutierrez, p.23). The book of Proverbs provides an abundance of verses on integrity. He who walks in integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways will be found out (Proverbs 10.9). Run Time Pattern in Three Executions MySQL (non cluster) had a stable pattern within three executions, while Hadoop did not. They despised the way it heaped inequality and servitude upon women, and decided to assert their opinion on the issue in order to change the perceptions and imposed limitations on women. • 54. Seal Hunting Essay The seal hunt has been a controversial topic in Canada for many years. The argument over it is if it should be allowed and continued, or stopped once and for all. The species of seals killed are the Harp Seals. Most of the harp seals killed are 12 days old to 3 months old because that is when they have the most fur and are more defenseless compared to an adult seal. The Inuit favor adult ring seals, while sealers hunt for baby harp seals usually. A letter by Arnaituk M. Tarkik, an Inuit man, clearly states his opposition. He writes, We are skillful hunters who hunt adult animals for food, that is not the same as bashing a pup, which can t move, over the head. And in fact, if the seal hunt stopped, we would benefit the most. There would be 180,000 more seals left for us to eat when they are a few years older. So as you can see, whether it s Inuit s or Celebrities, everybody rather then the government and sealers want this barbaric slaughter to finish once and for all. After hearing so much negative effects the seal hunt has on people, imagine how cruel the seals have it. Baby seals are being clubbed and shot for really no reason at all. A reason why sealers argue that the hunt is beneficial because seals provide a good source of omega 3, the reality is you can get omega 3 without killing an innocent life. Omega 3 can come from other natural sources like walnuts and flax seeds. Also, after a seal is skinned most of the seal goes to waste. The fur is sold globally and the oil is sold as a health supplement. 80 % of the Blubber is discarded, and the meat is left to rot on the ice. If people are going to kill 12 day old defenseless seals, they should at least make sure that the whole seal is used. But ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
