Introduction In the United States, each state has its own rules and laws that govern for the
citizens residing in the particular state. Then there are laws that the country has that every
United States resident has to follow and abide by. The same goes for those in official roles such
as police officers, lawyers, judges etc. In this body of work, the topic of Judicial Selection

Writing A Rhetorical Analysis On My Service Learning s...
We ve made it to our fourth stop, the snowy mountain of EWP Outcome #4! The aim of this
outcome is to develop flexible strategies for revising, editing, and proofreading writing. I believe
that my first and third short assignment, and the second major paper will be able to demonstrate
my ability to pull from given feedback by instructor and peers to successfully revise in order to
produce effective works.
1. The writing demonstrates substantial and successful revision.
After receiving the feedback for my first short assignment, I realized that were a lot of revision
that needed to be done. For the first short assignment, I was required to write a rhetorical analysis
on my service learning s organization website. While I did provide a strong claim which was the
purpose of the website is to introduce the organization to the community as a well established
agency that helps Asian immigrants with numerous programs, services and advocacy2.The writing
responds to substantive issues raised by the instructor and peers, I failed to relate it to the website s
usage of rhetorical appeals. In order to produce an effective piece, I decided to revise my work
but relating the rhetorical appeals to my original claim, and by providing a more detailed analysis
on how they relate. As an example, in my original submission, I only wrote The overall appearance
of the website aims to give off an air of professionalism and maturity without providing any further

World War 1 Turning Point Essay
World War 1 or the Great War was a turning point for war in itself and for the people s view of it.
Before war was something to be celebrated but the creation of machine guns, gasses, and other
horrible creations of the 1910s made war something to be feared by everyone. The assassination of
Austrian Prince Archduke Ferdinand by a Serbian Nationalist Gavrilo Princip stirred up tensions
leading to World War 1 starting in mid August 1914, which put the Allied powers ( Great Britain,
France, Russia, Italy Japan, and in 1917 the United States) against the Central powers ( Germany,
Austria Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire). World War 1 lasted 4 years and brought more casualties
and wounded that any other war up until that point and a fear of a war of this magnitude ever
happening again. The first major battle of the Marne fought on the Western Front to the final battle

The Effects Of Removing Humans From The World s Nuclear...
I My Questions What I Already Know, and What I Want to Know Ever since I was young, I ve
loved exploring the concept of how things work. This idea can apply to an endless list of things
whether it is just a little toy, the most advanced car, or the tallest skyscraper. When I started reading
The World Without us by Alan Weisman, my mind was immediately drawn to the question of how
some of humans most interesting technology would function without our help. The most
fascinating creation that caught my attention turned out to be all the world s nuclear reactors.
Though I only have limited background knowledge about the way in which they operate, I have
read about what can happen to nuclear reactors even with man s supervision, and I am intrigued to
discover the effects of removing humans from the equation. A nuclear powerplant, in a sense, is
much like a fossil fueled power plant; water is turned to steam which drives a turbine that creates
electricity. The contrast comes in the source of heat. With nuclear power, the heat to create the
steam is produced when uraniumatoms split, a process called fission. Under control, this is an
ingenious way to create a power supply, however, the repercussions of a slight accident in a
nuclear reactor are far worse than an accident in any other power plant. Nuclear power plants are
considered far more dangerous than others because of their power source: the element uranium 235.
When these atoms are split, they release an abundance of

Hamlet And The Characters Of Hamlet In Hamlet
1.It is very clear that something is wrong in Denmark in scene 1 because King Hamlet has died.
His brother that is now King was the one that murdered him. Prince Hamlet does not like the idea
of his uncle becoming King and marrying his mother so soon after his father s death. Something
else that let us know something was wrong was Barnardo and Francisco s conversation. They are
used to taking turns being a guard so for Barnardo to ask Francisco Who s there (Ham. 1.1.1) let us
know that there is someone else besides Francisco around the castle at that time. Come to find out
King Hamlethas a ghostthat appears outside the castle that they can see. Since they see a ghost they
bring a friend, Horatio, to confirm that this ghost that they are seeing really is King Hamlet.
Horatio confirms the ghost by saying Such was the very armour he had on, (Ham. 1.1.59). Prince
Hamletnow knows that the ghost is his father but is concerned that he may be haunting the castle
to get revenge. I don t personally have some one that represents Claudius character but someone
in the media that reminds me of him is Trump. I say this because I think Trump is a good leader
because he tries to do what is best for America but because of that I don t think he is a very
family man. An example of this is But you must know your father lost a father, That father lost,
lost his, and the survivor bound (Ham. 1.1.89 90). He isn t worried about his family as much
because he doesn t have much sympathy for Hamlet about losing his father. To me this reminds me
of Trump because he doesn t always say things with other people s emotions in mind.
2.In scene 2, we can see that Claudius and Hamlet do not get along. Hamlet does not like that
Claudius is just brushing off the king s death and moving right into getting married to Gertrude.
Hamlet thinks that Claudius should be more upset about his death considering it was his brother,
but he is not. Claudius says to Hamlet how is it that the cloud still hang on you? (Ham. 1.2.66) This
line is insinuating that Prince Hamlet is still mourning over his father s death after months have
gone by and Claudius doesn t think that he should be. I think that Claudius may have a little good
in him because he

Globalization Of The American Style Fast Food
Globalization is one of the most popular issues that have been discussed through the
world by the sociologist for decades.(James A. D, Dick. P, Yongseok Seo 2006)
According to John Tomlinson s (Tomlinson 2006) cognition of globalization. He
interprets that:
Globalization is a complex process because it involves rapid social
change that is occurring simultaneously across a number of dimensions in the world
economy, in politics, in communications, in the physical environment and in culture
and each of these transformations interact with the others. (p. 1)
As far as I am concerned, globalization is happening around daily life. For example,
McDonalds, they start from a small restaurant in California to one of the world s
leading food service retailers, with more than 35000 restaurants in more than a
hundred countries.(McDonald 2014) McDonalds spread the American style fast food
worldwide. This can be seen as a globalization of food culture.
Since the societies are becoming more and more alike nowadays and leading to a
phenomenon known as globalization. Some people afraid that globalization will lead
to the loss of cultural identify while some think it can have a good impact on the
societies. Based on the bookгЂЉGolden Arches East: McDonald s in East
AsiaгЂ‹which indicates the advantages of the food globalization by providing the view
that it is not only spreading the food culture but also blending with the locals and the

The Effects Of Social Media On Teenagers
The Social Media Effect
When you were a teenager, did social media impact your life? If not, it certainly has had an
impact on the teenagers of America today. Social media has been around for a long time. There
are many applications for social media, some of which are Twitter, MySpace, and Facebook.
With the rapid evolution of social media, people believe that social media is impacting teenagers
in a negative way. However, some believe that there are positive effects. The negative effects of
social media on teenagers include poor student performance, lack of sleep, and increased
vulnerability. However, before any of these arguments can be talked about, it is important that
people know the history of social media. The development of social media started in the 1950 s
with commercial computers. This led to the creation of personal computers, which paved the way
for the development of e mail. One of the key developments of social media is the cell phone. They
evolved into Iphones, which include many features such as Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. These
allow people to communicate anywhere at any time. The first recognizable social network using
the same definition as today s Facebook and MySpace sites was SixDegrees.com, launched in
1997. (Amidon Lusted). From this website, MySpace evolved. Chris DeWolfe and Tom Anderson
created MySpace. They wanted this site to have fewer rules, and they wanted people to
communicate and share music. MySpace led to the

A Joint Venture Between Nora And Sakari
The negotiations for a joint venture between Nora and Sakari have been taking place for over two
years and 20 meetings. Meeting locations have varied, but have been held in both of the firm s
respective countries of Helsinki and KL. So far, the meetings sunk costs in promoting the JV
between the two companies are estimated at RM3 million.
There are mutual benefits for a cooperative effort. The main benefit for Sakari would be to meet
its strategy of expanding R D centres in to South east Asia which is a market of unexploited
potential. They would be to meet this strategy if they gained access through Malaysia. Nora s
main benefit would be able to fulfill its TMB contract since its bid was reliant on providing Sakari
s 4G LTE technology (XX). Despite the benefits that would occur due to the agreement the
negotiation efforts failed to reach a JV agreement between the two entities. Some of the major
reasons for negotiation failure were due to difference in goals, negotiation and interaction styles,
cultural differences and behaviors, and lack of trust.
GOALS, NEGOTIATION AND INTERACTION STYLES
Their approaches to negotiation and objectives were very different for each party. Nora went in
with an integrative negotiation strategy since they had already won their bid based on using Sakari
s 4G technology and having a successful agreement would be important in fulfilling the contract
with TGMXX. The were interested in creating a win win situation. On the other hand Sakari s

Essay on Avian Influenza and Its Expected Ramifications
Over the past fifteen years H5N1 influenza (also known as Avian Flu or Bird Flu) has become a
common topic of speculation and debate worldwide, causing quite a bit of confusion about its
possible impacts on our society. At this point in time it is generally recognized by the international
medical community that Avian Flu is bound to become a pandemic, most likely within the next
ten years. Research on Avian Flu and its effects have led many scholars to make grave predictions
of major global turmoil while a small portion of medical scientists remain skeptical, believing we
will have enough time to thoroughly prepare for the outbreak. The one thing that nearly all health

There are many different types of flu, categorized most broadly by influenza A, B, and C strains.
They are further classified by genetic differences represented by H and N. Seasonal flus are
either type A or B and classified by H3N2, swine flu (a flu strain you may remember by the
media stir it caused in 2009) is type A and H1N1, and avian flu is type A and H5N1. Type A flu
strains are considered to be the most severe and are usually the only type of influenza that can
cause a pandemic. On paper the avian flu may seem like the flu strains that we experience every
year, but H5N1 is certainly unique. The first reason for this is that research has suggested that for
currently idiopathic reasons the avian flu seems to have a predisposition to mutation, enabling it to
rapidly create new strains that may be more dangerous, more contagious, or even resistant to
antibiotics (which has already been observed in at least one case of an infected Vietnamese
teenager). The reason avian flu has not yet caused any major outbreaks is because right now the
virus is unable to be transmitted from human to human, only from bird to bird or bird to human.
With such a high tendency to mutate, it is only a matter of time before the avian flu mutates into a
strain that can be transmitted between

LGBT RIGHTS: ON THE USA AND BRAZIL
2
Introduction
Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgender (LGBT) issues have continuously triggered debates
and controversies among various individual s across the globe. The rising concerns leading to the
differences in opinions regarding LGBT emanate from the point of perceptions, cultural beliefs,
religious values and political basis. Due to the dynamics of not accepting the existence of the LGBT
peop le by some individuals in their communities, the LGBTs have found it hard to express
themselves freely and enjoy equal rights just like a regular citizen should
(Dolan, 2013). For instance, in the United States, the LGBT patients did not have visitation rights
until a directive from the Whitehouse was issued. In some communities, extreme measures have
been taken against individuals suspected to be lesbians or gays. Because of the way the public
view the LGBT people, it is disheartening and traumatizing for most of them to come out and
express themselves openly. Some have been forced to lead double standards. However, the
situation has changed in different nations and states in America where laws and policies have been
developed to support and protect the LGB
T community. As a minority group, the LGBT community has struggled over the years to have
their rights respected.
Despite the existing disagreements surrounding the LGBT rights, several states in the
United States of America and Brazil among others have demonstrated

Art Building 1943-59
This essay will inform the contrasts of two very important art galleries built 9 years apart. The
Guggenheim, 1943 59, was built solely for Solomon R, Guggenheim to exhibit his collection of
both modern and contemporary art from around the world. This building in New York was said
to be one of the architect s most important public projects , the architect being Frank Lloyd
Wright. The building that will be put into contrast with the Guggenheim is the Neue
Nationalgalerie in Berlin, 1962 68. Mies Van der Rohe was asked to design this new gallery
during the modernism period in an act to revive the city of Berlin after the war as part of
Kultureforum , a development of new cultural institutions . The Guggenheim museum in New York
is unlike any other art gallery/ museum in the world. Its round, top heavy shape is something like
no other and Wright prided himself on this artistic integrity1. The section of the Guggenheim,

Ozone Pollution Essay
The Effects of Ozone Pollution
The term ozone has appeared in numerous magazine and newspaper articles and has been a subject
of discussion on both radio and television. Despite all the publicity surrounding this term, however,
many people are still confused by it. The confusion arises from the fact that ozone is both beneficial
and harmful. We know that the ozone layer in the upper atmosphereacts as a filter for the sun s
ultraviolet rays, reducing the amount of radiation that reaches the earth s surface. At ground level,
though, high concentrations of ozone can be harmful.
The Ozone Layer
Ozone gas forms a layer all around the earth high in the stratosphere. It serves as a vital and
effective protective barrier from the sun s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When levels are high, people at risk should take simple precautions:
Stay indoors as much as possible.
Limit outside activities to the early morning hours or after sunset. Ozone levels tend to go down
with the sun.
Refrain from exercising or working vigorously outdoors when levels are high.
Stay away from high traffic areas, and avoid exercising near these areas at all times.
Carpool or use public transportation to help reduce the amount of harmful emissions in the air that
contribute to the production of ozone.
Avoid using gasoline powered lawn equipment or other gasoline powered tools.
Big Differences
The distinction between the two ozone issues В— the beneficial ozone layer versus ozone pollution
В— is extreme. The ozone layer in the stratosphere needs to be protected. By the same token, ozone
produced by the effects of sunlight on air pollutants must be reduced.
Controlling air pollution will help solve both of these problems, thereby benefiting our health and

No Face Movie Sociology
Perhaps the best example of the negative views on society come when the character, No Face,
shows up. He is normal when Chihiro meets him outside of the bathhouse. Later in the film, as he is
let into the bathhouse, he offers money to the spirits, revealing an incredible amount of greed from
them. What is interesting is that the spirits were so harsh toward Chihiro for being human,
probably because they used to have jobs as spirits but due to human nature they now work at the
bathhouse. This causes the spirits to then reflect human nature themselves. Again, it goes back to
what man has created, and in the bathhouse the spirits draw many parallels with the business man.
No Face then starts to eat people, and becomes very obsessed with... Show more content on

This can be interpreted very deeply. Chihiro left the door open in the bathhouse for No Face. She
was a human, opening the door (literally) to a seemingly unsuspecting free spirit to society. Society
drove No Face crazy, and his obsession could represent his resentment toward the source of his
transformation, in this case Chihiro, the human. As human caused the problem, Chihiro takes
responsibility for letting him in, and makes the comment that the bathhouse (society) makes him
crazy. No Face represents the extreme end of the negativities in society, such as the rise of mental
disorders, depression, suicide, etc. Chihiro shows the female s ability to empathize, allowing her to
refrain from violence yet still solving the problem. Miyazaki presented the issue, and resolved it in
an alternative way, with a character that is the paradox of feminism

Boston Marathon Bombing On April 15, 2013 during the Boston Marathon in Copley Square,
two bombs exploded near the finish line killing at least three and injuring over 170 people. This
bombing sent the nation in an uproar and it was immediately recognized as a terrorist attack.
When the Federal Bureau of Investigation took over, a few days later a surveillance video and
photographs of the two suspects were released. After the suspects were named, Dzhokar Tsarnaev,
19, and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, the violence began. On Thursday, April 18, three days after the

It also struck me when I saw that they had planned another bombing in New York, this interested
me especially since it is so close to home. Now there are reports that the attack was supposed to
be done on the Fourth of July. This raises curiosity about security during the holiday and if we
will all be safe. I believe that everyone, at the time, was worried about there safety and anyone
would have chose this topic to do research on since it was still in the public eye. I learned quite a
bit about the psychological impact of the Boston Marathon Bombing. After researching the
effects, I realized how much trauma these innocent people went through during a moment that
was supposed to be joyous. People that were healthy and filled with life were either severely
injured or had there life taken away by a senseless act. Some of the injured victims will never be
able to walk again, others, never able to see their loved ones again. Martin Richard, an 8 year old
boy whose life was taken during the attack, will never get to see his family one more time. The
amount of grief the Tsarnev brothers caused can never be taken back and it has left a
psychological effect on the viewers and the victims runners, adults and children. Viewers across the
nation are affected by the social media causing stress on the subject by bombarding the public with
media stories, rumors and a sense of mass panic . Victims have to relive that horrible moment

A Comparison of Frankenstein 1994 to Frankenstein 1957
Over the past hundred years, Mary Shelley s novel, Frankenstein has been read worldwide, by many
different audiences.
In the original novel, the creature is given life by Frankenstein, and then he stretches out his arm to
see if Frankenstein will accept him as a son. Whereas in the 1957 film he is in a box full of water,
and is wrapped in bandages. The creature tries to strangle Frankenstein until he is stopped by Paul.
In contrast, the 1994 film portrays the birth differently; Frankenstein is seen running around his lab
and is all sweaty and dirty. Once the creature is alive he falls on the floor into all the liquid and he

The director of the 1994 film made the lab realistic, by making the lab dirty and showing all sorts
of scientific instruments. He also makes Frankenstein take his shirt off, get dirty and really get
stuck into the birth of the monster, this suggests that he seems to want to be part of the creation
more than in the 1957 version. Also in this film Frankenstein is studying at the university of
Ingolstadt and in one scene we see peasants fleeing the city because of an outbreak of a disease.
This is something which is not used in the 1957 version. In contrast the 1957 film s director
chooses to make Frankenstein wear a suit and work in a very stereotypical lab. Although the 1994
film chooses to use a wider environment, this film decides to use gothic horror, which the other
film doesn t, they do this by using lightening when the creature is born.
In the 1957 film Frankenstein is portrayed as a posh, snobby and self obsessed this is show by
the house he lives in, his servants and the fact that he is always in his lab working on his creation.
Good friends like Paul fall out with him because of his creation, Frankenstein is so driven he doesn
t care that his best friend has left. In comparison the 1994 film chooses to show Frankenstein as a
man that is driven, falls out with Clerval and Elizabeth, but he makes up with them, even though

Globalization And Westernization In Turkey
Has Turkey adopted both Western and Islamic principles? Westernization is the social process of
becoming familiar with or converting to the customs and practices of Western Civilization. It is the
accepting of western ideas in the fields of science, technology, philosophy, and other social
materialistic aspects of life. However, Islamis the submission to the will of God. Unlike
westernization, Islam is a spiritual practice, therefore, has its own unique identity, culture, and
principles of social life. Since the day of independence, Turkey has always aligned itself with the
western world. Only until recently, under the Justice and development party led by Recep
Erdogan Turkey is starting to practice and meddle in the affairs of the Middle East. What has
lead Turkey to dramatically shift its policy? How big of a role has the sense of identity play in
this matter? This paper will argue that although the population of Turkey is predominantly
Muslim, it also represents a secular state with western style democracy. It plays a critical
geopolitical role since it is in the center of Europe and the Middle East. It is also the revival of an
identity the Islamist feared had been overshadowed by the West and the Western culture. Therefore,
in today s globalized world, Turkey plays a vital role in complying both Islamic and western ideals
to appeal to both of the civilizations. Islamists in Turkey are departing from their conventional
positions of anti western stance and are

Deptt. of Petroleum Studies, AMU, Aligarh, India
Abstract This is a new optimization algorithm which mimic the behavior of mosquito to find a hole
in mosquito net, if any. Both the flying and sliding motion of the mosquito have been modelled and
incorporated in the algorithm. The algorithm was tested for global minima on different type of
benchmark functions of various dimension and modality. Namely Gramacy Lee, Ackley, Rastrigin,
Rosenbrock, Griewank and Schwefel functions of one, two, five, ten and thirty dimensions. The
experiment was done with thirty different seeds generated randomly for each function and
dimension. The algorithm was found to be efficient, convergent and accurate.
Keywords Evolutionary algorithm, MFO, PSO, GA, ACO, Benchmark optimization function
I: Introduction
Optimization can be defined as the search for the best possible solution(s) to a given problem. For
this, there are a number of optimization techniques both conventional and new meta heuristics. The
conventional methods are gradient based which are although quite faster in convergence, but are
not applicable for discontinuous, non differentiable and complex multimodal functions. These
techniques have limitations to find the global optima and have general tendency to stuck at local
optima as they start with a single point. Hence there are exhaustive search methods to tackle

Macbeth Movie Vs Play
Macbeth is a play about a Scottish general (Macbeth) who receives a prophacy from three witches
that states that one day, he wil become the king of Scotland. This makes Macbeth power hungry so
he decides to murder the current king of Scotland, Duncan. As people grow more and more
suspicious of who killed Duncan, Macbethis forced to commit more murders in order to protect
himself from being exposed. This leads to him becoming filled with paranoia and guilt, which
ultimately is his major downfall. Shakespeare wrote this play in 1606 to make people realize that
excessive ambition can have terrible consequences. Both the play and the movie incorporate
murders into telling the story of Macbeth, but they do so in different ways.

Macbeth was so focused on becoming king that he wanted to eliminate any threat that came his
way. The three witches had warned him to watch out for Macduff, so Macbeth decided to kill him.
Not knowing that Macduff had fled to England with Malcolm, Macbeth sent hired servents to go
kill Macduff. When they realized that Macduff was not there, they decided to kill his family instead
to prove the point that Macbeth is not afraid of Macduff. In the play, Macbeth is not present during
the murder of Macduff s family but in the movie he is. This was probably the biggest difference
between the Macduff family murder in both versions of the story. Another big difference was
that in the play when Ross told Macduff that his family had been viciously slaughtered, Macduff
did not seem phased at all. He was not very upset, just a little mad. In the movie however,
Macduff nearly dies himself when he hears the news that his family had been killed. They made
it this way in the movie to make it more dramatic and suspensful to watch. Another major
difference in this scene is that in the play, the son of Lady Macduff says Thou liest, thou shag
haired villian! (Macbeth 4.2.80). After he yells this at the murderer, the murderer stabs him to
death. In the movie, the son never says this and it never shows him getting stabbed. The movie
did this to give the audience a chance to envision what the murder was like on their own. The
three big differences in the murder of Macduff s family is Macbeth was part of the actual murder
in the movie and not the play, Macduff does not get very emotional in the play but he does in the
movie, and the movie does not show the son getting stabbed while the book

The gentry of Virginia was not pleased with this decision, since they invested in the land and were
now legally hindered to sell it. Other settlers, like squatters, just settled there, but the gentry had to
respect the resolution of their own Privy Council. So they started to petition the Council, but
without success. Holton argues that the Indians were able to influence the British government to a
certain point not to allow American settlers to settle in the Ohio Valley, because the British simply
did not want to spend money for British troops that would eventually have to protect the settlers
from Indian assaults. They hoped to prevent a new costly war in America. The problem for the
gentry was that В… the Virginia Executive Council had no choice but to void the hundreds of
surveys that had been done for Virginia speculators and to put a halt to further surveying. This
setback only intensified the speculators effort to persuade the government to let them have
Kentucky and the adjacent region. But the British government did not repeal the act. This caused
many of the gentry s members who speculated for land in Kentucky to be displeased and lose a
great deal of money. Holton gives numerous examples of gentry members that were affected by
these circumstances, including Thomas Jefferson and George Washington.

Walter White Was A Good Man By American Society s Standards
In recent years, a New Yorker artist posted a caricature that depicted a cop speaking with an
inmate saying I am neither a good cop nor a bad cop, Jerome. Like yourself, I am a complex
amalgam of positive and negative personality traits that emerge or not, depending on the
circumstances (Stevens, 2007). Being diagnosed with incurable cancer, Walter White began his
metamorphosis from an outstanding citizen into an egotistical drug lord. He was a good man
who was led to commit immoral choices due to the situation he was put in. Throughout the
series, society judges Walter, some say he is a hero for doing the things he did for the greater
good of his family whilst others, justify his actions. Although wrong to judge people for
committing unlawful or immoral acts in a stressful situation, it is required in order to keep
society from collapsing. Walter White was a good man by American society s standards, he

works, he was awarded with a Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his achievements in the
determination of crystal structures. He met his wife a few years later and had his first born son.
Even though Walter had great success working in chemistry, he became a high school teacher, a
job that did not pay enough and was driven to work a second job in a carwash. A day after Walter

culture of Sherlock Holmes by reading the stories and watching filmed dramatisations. The Sherlock

This is an example of media culture turning into media industry and the museum is doing very well.
It is currently one of the most popular tourist destinations in London (Urry, J ,2000).
The Sherlock Holmes Museum was built for the purpose of making money. At the beginning, the
founder of the museum had a plan to develop the tourist industry. As a result, everything in this
museum has been designed to match tourists preferences. I can provide a personal example. I
visited the museum myself and read the letters that the museum has received from Sherlock
Holmes fans. The museum staff told me that these fans wanted to write letters to Sherlock Holmes
but have no true address to post the letters to, so they address their letters to the museum. I
discovered an interesting pattern when reading the letters: many were from Japanese, Korean and
Chinese fans. The grammar used by these Asian fans is extremely good, their command of the
English language almost as good as that of a native speaker.

a person abuses alcohol until much later. Alcohol abusecalls for total attention because of the

Public broadcasting is radio, television and other electronic media outlets, which are all trying to do
the same job, which is entertain the viewers in other words public service. In majority of the world
funding comes from the government through annual fees. Public broadcasting comes in two was
locally or nationally depending on the country and station you are tuned into. In a few countries of
the world public broadcasting is ran by a single organization but on the other hand there are many
public broadcasting in other countries which cater to lots of different audiences with having
different language shows. Commercial broadcasting Commercial broadcasting (private
broadcasting) is the broadcasting of television programs and radio programming by privately
owned corporate media, as opposed to state sponsorship. Commercial broadcasting now exists in
most of the countries around the world, the influence of this means the number of public
broadcasting has declined substantially during the latter part of the 20th century. This means public

Resist Much, Obey Little
Resist Much, Obey Little Kenneth M. Price asserts that Walt Whitman is a foundational figure in
American culture. This statement certainly holds true, as the transcendental father of free verse
gained his place as one of the 19th century s greatest American writers after self publishing his
most renowned work, Leaves of Grass, multiple times, each time with added pieces and revisions
of previous ones. The novel, inclusive of his widely recognized poem Song of Myself , composed
of fifty two sections, is considered an American landmark in literature. The collection offers
profound, universal ideas dealing with significant transcendental concepts such as self love,
nonconformity within a society, the ideas that God exists within everything and beyond, and that
true comprehension of life involves true appreciation of nature. Prior to his rapid gain of literary
recognition, Whitman volunteered as a nurse for the Civil War for three years. His experiences at
the hospital inspired numerous poetry and prose pieces, and he soon became certain that he could
construct more pieces out of his life changing encounters with wounded soldiers. Walt Whitmans
distinct style and technique presented in his work always leads back to the highly significant
transcendental principle of nonconformity.
A major theme that Walt Whitman conveys throughout his work is that experience is more
important than education. One way in which Whitman demonstrates this idea is in When I Heard

The cost of living has become unaffordable, causing most people to start or end their lives later
than planned. Even if a student graduates from a high end university with an impressive degree it
may guarantee absolutely nothing in today s society. Since the cost of living is so high, the next
generation after to have no choice but to postpone retirement in order to keep a roof over their

The Origin of Migrant Farmworkers Essay
The Mexican Migrant Farm Workers community formed in Southern California in the 20th
century because of two factors that came together: farming emphasized by migrations like the
Okie farmers from the East and Mexicans imported to the U.S. because of the need for cheap
labor as a replacement of Americans during World War II. The migrant labor group formed after
an already similar group in the U.S had been established in California, the American farm workers
from the East, known as the Okies. The Dust Bowlof the 1930s caused the movement of the Okies
to the West and was followed by the transition from American dominant farm labor to Mexican
migrant labor. The Okies reinforced farming in California through the skills they took with them,...

Thousands of families journeyed to California, settling in San Joaquin Valley. From 1930 to
1936, the Dust Bowl caused damages in agriculture in the Central Valleys all the way to the East
Coast of the U.S. At the time, the majority of the farmers were from Oklahoma, in other words,
they were American. Although most of the farmers fleeing the Dust Bowl were U.S born, some
were Mexican Americans living in Texas, Arizona and the states closer to the border (Gregory).
However, this event did not fully give rise to the Mexican Migrant Farm Workers community. It
was instead, the beginnings of successful farm labor in the valleys of California, which
transformed California s view towards farming. California seemed perfect, the climate was good
for a diversity of crops and it promised a lot to the desolated farmers from the East. Why was this
significant to the formation of the Mexican Migrant community? In other words, if the Dust Bowl
would not have happened, then farm labor would have not been as significant in California as it is.
Californians would have continued mining and building factories in soils that today, are used
primarily for agriculture. James N. Gregory, professor at the University of Washington argues that
The twentieth century drained rural Americans from the land as surely as it improved the
technology and efficiency of farming as he discusses the effects of the

Analysis Of Me Talk Pretty One Day By David Sedaris
In the article, Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris (1999), the author describes what it was
like learning French while living in France. Sedaris moved to Paris in order to learn the
language and immerse himself into the culture. He thought this would make learning the
language easier. During his time in France, Sedaris experienced intimidation, abuse, and joy.
Learning a foreign language as an adult is difficult because of the feeling of intimidation by
younger classmates, a hostile learning environment presented by the teacher, and an inherent
cognitive disadvantage. On the first day of class, after he was done checking in, he sat down to
observe his classmates returning from their summer vacations. Initially, he walked in full of
confidence and his head held high. However, that quickly changed when he heard his classmates
speak French, and the feeling of intimidation washed over him like waves hitting the beach, at
my age, a reasonable person should have completed his sentence in the prison of the nervous and
insecure . . . my fears have not vanished, rather, they have multiplied with age (Sedaris, 1999, 1).
For being a forty one year old man, he thought these feelings of insecurity and fear in the
classroom would have ended long ago. If he thought things could not get worse, he was
mistaken. The teacher walked in, rattled off commands to the class, and then asked them to
recite the alphabet. In that moment, he knew he was in trouble, I ve spent time in Normandy,
and I took a monthlong French class in New York. I am not completely in the dark, yet I only
understood half of what she said (Sedaris, 1999, 1) and, despite the exposure he already had, he
was still unable to understand everything the teacher was saying. Properly learning and grasping a
new language requires support and the proper learning environment from the teacher. However, it
did not take long for David to learn that his teacher was verbally abusive, among other negative
things. Unfortunately, this realization also came on the first day of class. She spoke to the class in
a condescending tone, and insulted each student s ability to speak the language. One day, as she
was humiliating David in front of the entire class, she said

Essay On Phaseolus Vulgaris
The Phaseolus vulgaris, or better known as pinto beans, is known to be one of the world s
healthiest dried food. Pinto beans typically take about 90 days to grow as a dry bean, but can be
harvested sooner as green snap beans. The Phaseolus vulgaris L. plants is a dry plant that require a
long growing season in warm conditions. Pinto beans must not be planted too early, due to their
intolerance for damp or cold conditions. If the soildrops under or to 50 degrees Fahrenheit the seed
will most likely rot and if the plantis over watered it could lead to white mold in the seed, causing
it to die. The Phaseolus vulgaris L. plants are considered warm season crop; it prefers fertile and
well drained soil, along with adequate, but not excessive, moisture (Franzen,... Show more content

Competition is defined as a struggle between equals, as well as referring to the survival of the fittest
in wake of Charles Darwin s Theory of Evolution(Went, Darwin). Interspecific competition is a form
of competition where two different species compete for the same resource in an ecosystem. Levels
of interspecific competition and how they will effect the plants within the habitat is highly
dependent on nutrient availability. (Aerts)We used the Phaseolus vulgaris as our control and
Raphanus sativa as the competition plant. The easy to grow nature of the pinto bean allowed for
accurate analysis of results to better understand how interspecies competition affects plants. Our
hypothesis is that the more competition present in the immediate environment, the smaller and
weaker the pinto bean plant will grow to be. A plant with more competition, has less nutrients
available to be absorbed, causing it to grow less successfully. Competition results in a plant s
inability to maximize both growth rate and nutrient retention. (Aerts) Weeds in gardens are an every
day example of how negative competition can be detrimental to plant

Carnival Porter 5 Forces
CARNIVAL CORPORATION PLC PORTER S 5 FORCES
Porter s 5 forces model allows to analyse the factors outside the Cruise industry that influence the
nature of Carnival competition within it, the forces inside the Cruise industry that influence the
way in which Carnival compete, and so the company s likely profitability. With an understanding
of where power lies, Carnival can take advantages of a situation of strength, improve a situation of
weakness and avoid taking wrong strategies. Porter has identified five competitive forces that shape
every industry and every market: bargaining power of suppliers, bargaining power of buyers, threat
of new entrants, threat of substitutes and rivalry among competitors. A sixth element has also been

With this considerations buyers have low price sensitivity that allow Carnival to have a strong
position.
Carnival is a leader in the cruise industry and it s highly likely that the consumers would select
this company; as it is also a branded company recognizable on the market it allow the process of
word of mouth that lessen the power of the consumers from their self.
Even if the company can have a strong position against its buyers due to the business characteristics
the close relationship that the customers have with the travel agencies gives their a greater
influence over the ticket price.
In summary, the low price sensitivity, low buyer concentration and the leadership of Carnival in
the cruise industry on one hand enhances the buyer power while a high degree of involvement of
travel agency on the other reduces their bargaining power, the power of buyer of the buyers in the
cruise line market of Carnival is moderate.
Threat of new entrants category. LOW
Factors affecting the ability of new comers to enter the market include capital requirements and cost
of fuel, economies of scale, access to channels of distribution, constraint of brand equity, threat of M

It is difficult for new cruise lines to enter this market since the level of star up capital required is
extremely high given the average cost of a cruise ship and the

Discourse Is A Shared Way Of Apprehending The World
Discourse is a shared way of apprehending the world (Dryzek, 1997). It is understood as the
ensemble of ideas, concepts and categories through which meaning is given to social and physical
realities, and which is produced and reproduced through an identifiable set of practices (Hajer,
2006: 67). Discourse favors certain description of reality and empowers certain policytools while
marginalizing others (Litfin, 1994). Discourses frame the policy debates, limit what are
considered reasonable options and inform policy making process (Gregorio et al, 2014).
Discourses represent the dominant representatives, understandings and knowledge regimes present
in governance debate and they are deeply embedded in the formation of knowledge. The
discourses are produced based on the perception and role of the actors (Keller, 2011). Different
discourses promote specific conceptualization of environmental problem including the causes of the
problems and on their solutions. For instance, discourse on forests seeing as important carbon sink
could be different from seeing forest as source of local livelihoods or source of biodiversity.
Therefore it is crucial to understand the different construction of meaning by different actors.
Current international debates about climate change are shaped by different, often conflicting but
also partly overlapping environmental discourses (den Besten et al., 2014). Authors such as Dryzek
(1997, 2005), Hoffman (2011), Bäckstrand Lövbrand (2007) and

The Elastic Clause
When the founding fathers created the constitution, they didn t know that there would be planes,
smartphones, automatic guns, or even drones. They created the constitution as how they saw the

know how drastically. The constitutionhas under gone through many changes over the last few
hundred years, George Washington the 1st President of the United Statesonce said The Constitution
is the guide which I will never abandon. I agree with him because there are times where the

Madison is a landmark Supreme Court case. Marbury v. Madison is one of the most influential and
groundbreaking legal proceeding in the history of the United States. The Marbury v. Madison case
was the first of its kind. Prior to Marbury vs. Madison, it was unclear whether the U.S. Supreme
Court had the power to determine the constitutionality of laws or what should happen when the
Constitution and a law were in conflict. Consequently the theory of every such government must be
that an act of the Legislature repugnant to the Constitution is void. With these words written by
Chief Justice Marshall, this case is significant because for the first time, the Supreme Court declared
an act of Congress unconstitutional because it was contrary to the Constitution. This decision was
the foundation for the Supreme Court s power of judicial review, the power by which the Court
could determine the constitutionality of laws passed by Congress. Marshall stated in the majority
opinion Court must either decide that case conformably to the law, disregarding the Constitution, or
conformably to the Constitution, disregarding the law, the Court must determine which of these
conflicting rules governs the case. This is of the very essence of judicial duty. Marshall is saying
that the Judicial has the decision on the two opposing laws and thus creating Judicial Review.
Nothing in the Constitution gave the Court this specific power. Marshall, however, believed that the

Learning Disabilities Disadvantages
In the early 1960 s Samuel Kirk an American educator and psychologist, founded the term known
as learning disabilities. This came about after he had visited with a few groups of parents a few
times to discuss why these parents children seem to have small amounts of success even when they
are able to understand and comprehend just like other children. As a result of these meetings the
LearningDisabilities Association of America was formed (Pullen, 27). Then later in the mid 1970 s
the Educationfor All Handicapped Children Act was put into law which formally identified the
concept of learning disabilities (Pullen, 25). After these things were put in place, there was over
10 different descriptions of what learning disabilities can be based off of. For this concept, it
will be known as the following description. Learning Disabilities (LD) are created when there is
a space between a person s ability to think and reason and not their understanding based on the
results from tests. It is known that around 4 to 5 percent of adolescents are considered to have
LD. There are a few reasons why LD can occur. Boys are more prone than girls, African Americans
and Latinos are more prone than Whites and Asians. Most adolescents with LD struggle with many
academic areas especially in reading. They also have difficulties with interacting with others,
expressing their feelings and understanding the feelings of others. Last, is that adolescents with LD
have a high chance of dropout rates

Blind Search Research Paper
Blind search is when you start at state space and begin looking through a tree or structure, and
never ask self if you are making progess as you move, but just continously move through tree or
structure until reaching goal space or answer. Blind search has a couple different functions that can
happen. Two functions called Depth first and Breadth first involve going through a tree or structure,
but both using a different method to reach goal space. In depth first you search tree or structure
starting at the starting point and exploring as far as possible along each branch before backtracking,
picking one move or path and following through with that decision. Depth first is just expanding
from first point further and further until a goal point... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basically, start at top, then consider all possible moves and work out those moves that will give
you best outcome in next level only revealing tree a little bit at a time until you are where you
want to be, and continue that process as you reach each new level traveling downward. Breadth
first is considered a conservative and safe option, it exhausts searches from entire tree or structure
without considering the goal until it finds it. Breadth first in ways does not use a heuristic
algorithm. Two more functions called Foward and Backward Chaining which take into
consideration the point of an end state, we want an outcome. Forward chaining is starting where
you are and working to the goal in mind. You want to move forward from what you have to where
you want to be...this sometimes makes more sense for unique goal states. The Ultimate Game is a
good example of a foward chaining function. Backward chaining on the other hand has no well
defined end state or no terminal

Cause And Effect Of Morphine
Morphine can be highly addictive. You will realize that the drug can generally be used safely
when taken in small doses as prescribed by the physician. However, when the drug is used in
large doses or abused, the user can actually develop a physical and psychological addiction to the
drug. When the drug is abused, it normally stimulates the brain s reward system. This basically
motivates the user to abuse the drug more and more. This can lead to tolerance and dependence.
Once you have developed dependence to morphine, you will have to keep using the drug from time
to time. If you quite taking morphine, you are likely to go through withdrawalas your brains relearns
how to function without the drug.

Phase 3
You will realize that this is a tough phase. It is where a lot of people run into problems. Some of
the symptoms here can be more psychological than physical. However, there will still be some
physical pain and discomfort. Some of the symptoms here include anxiety, restlessness, insomnia
and so on. You will realize that at this stage, you have to be very careful because the urge to use
becomes stronger than ever. In this case, you risk losing all the progress that you have made. This
is a critical stage as it determines whether or not you are going to completely withdrawal or detox
from morphine.
How do you reduce morphine withdrawal effects?
You will realize that morphine withdrawal can be managed through the use of some drugs and
medicines that help in reducing the morphine withdrawal effects. Some of the drugs that can help
you achieve this objective include:
1. Methadone.
This drug basically works in almost the same way as morphine. It normally produces similar
effects but of lower intensity. Here, the idea is to gradually reduce the dosage over a long period
of time until the user can easily make the switch to cold turkey. Some people normally use this drug
for longer periods for many months.

Evaluating The Implications Of A Transformation Innovation
Evaluating and Assessing the Implications of a Transformation Innovation
In today s dynamic business world, it is not enough for businesses to respond to the current
customers and internal organizational issues. In order for businesses to survive, they must be able
to anticipate and evaluate existing and emerging trends and develop ideas, products and services
that respond to those trends. However, failing to identify and respond to trends can put the business
at the risk of losing the existing customer base because innovation often determines who will be the
market leader and who will be living on the margin of the market.
Further, Innovation can be divided in to three main types, that are incremental, substantial and
transformational. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the impact of substantial innovation is 10 times the impact of incremental innovation and the
impact of transformational innovation is 10 times the impact of substantial innovation.
The case in hand is mainly concerned with transformational innovation and shades light on three

  • 4. Writing A Rhetorical Analysis On My Service Learning s... We ve made it to our fourth stop, the snowy mountain of EWP Outcome #4! The aim of this outcome is to develop flexible strategies for revising, editing, and proofreading writing. I believe that my first and third short assignment, and the second major paper will be able to demonstrate my ability to pull from given feedback by instructor and peers to successfully revise in order to produce effective works. 1. The writing demonstrates substantial and successful revision. After receiving the feedback for my first short assignment, I realized that were a lot of revision that needed to be done. For the first short assignment, I was required to write a rhetorical analysis on my service learning s organization website. While I did provide a strong claim which was the purpose of the website is to introduce the organization to the community as a well established agency that helps Asian immigrants with numerous programs, services and advocacy2.The writing responds to substantive issues raised by the instructor and peers, I failed to relate it to the website s usage of rhetorical appeals. In order to produce an effective piece, I decided to revise my work but relating the rhetorical appeals to my original claim, and by providing a more detailed analysis on how they relate. As an example, in my original submission, I only wrote The overall appearance of the website aims to give off an air of professionalism and maturity without providing any further explanation. • 5. World War 1 Turning Point Essay World War 1 or the Great War was a turning point for war in itself and for the people s view of it. Before war was something to be celebrated but the creation of machine guns, gasses, and other horrible creations of the 1910s made war something to be feared by everyone. The assassination of Austrian Prince Archduke Ferdinand by a Serbian Nationalist Gavrilo Princip stirred up tensions leading to World War 1 starting in mid August 1914, which put the Allied powers ( Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy Japan, and in 1917 the United States) against the Central powers ( Germany, Austria Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire). • 6. The Effects Of Removing Humans From The World s Nuclear... I My Questions What I Already Know, and What I Want to Know Ever since I was young, I ve loved exploring the concept of how things work. This idea can apply to an endless list of things whether it is just a little toy, the most advanced car, or the tallest skyscraper. When I started reading The World Without us by Alan Weisman, my mind was immediately drawn to the question of how some of humans most interesting technology would function without our help. The most fascinating creation that caught my attention turned out to be all the world s nuclear reactors. Though I only have limited background knowledge about the way in which they operate, I have read about what can happen to nuclear reactors even with man s supervision, and I am intrigued to discover the effects of removing humans from the equation. A nuclear powerplant, in a sense, is much like a fossil fueled power plant; water is turned to steam which drives a turbine that creates electricity. The contrast comes in the source of heat. With nuclear power, the heat to create the steam is produced when uraniumatoms split, a process called fission. Under control, this is an ingenious way to create a power supply, however, the repercussions of a slight accident in a nuclear reactor are far worse than an accident in any other power plant. Nuclear power plants are considered far more dangerous than others because of their power source: the element uranium 235. When these atoms are split, they release an abundance of ... • 8. Hamlet And The Characters Of Hamlet In Hamlet 1.It is very clear that something is wrong in Denmark in scene 1 because King Hamlet has died. His brother that is now King was the one that murdered him. Prince Hamlet does not like the idea of his uncle becoming King and marrying his mother so soon after his father s death. Something else that let us know something was wrong was Barnardo and Francisco s conversation. They are used to taking turns being a guard so for Barnardo to ask Francisco Who s there (Ham. 1.1.1) let us know that there is someone else besides Francisco around the castle at that time. Come to find out King Hamlethas a ghostthat appears outside the castle that they can see. Since they see a ghost they bring a friend, Horatio, to confirm that this ghost that they are seeing really is King Hamlet. Horatio confirms the ghost by saying Such was the very armour he had on, (Ham. 1.1.59). Prince Hamletnow knows that the ghost is his father but is concerned that he may be haunting the castle to get revenge. I don t personally have some one that represents Claudius character but someone in the media that reminds me of him is Trump. I say this because I think Trump is a good leader because he tries to do what is best for America but because of that I don t think he is a very family man. An example of this is But you must know your father lost a father, That father lost, lost his, and the survivor bound (Ham. 1.1.89 90). He isn t worried about his family as much because he doesn t have much sympathy for Hamlet about losing his father. To me this reminds me of Trump because he doesn t always say things with other people s emotions in mind. 2.In scene 2, we can see that Claudius and Hamlet do not get along. Hamlet does not like that Claudius is just brushing off the king s death and moving right into getting married to Gertrude. Hamlet thinks that Claudius should be more upset about his death considering it was his brother, but he is not. Claudius says to Hamlet how is it that the cloud still hang on you? (Ham. 1.2.66) This line is insinuating that Prince Hamlet is still mourning over his father s death after months have gone by and Claudius doesn t think that he should be. • 9. Globalization Of The American Style Fast Food Globalization is one of the most popular issues that have been discussed through the world by the sociologist for decades.(James A. D, Dick. P, Yongseok Seo 2006) According to John Tomlinson s (Tomlinson 2006) cognition of globalization. He interprets that: Globalization is a complex process because it involves rapid social change that is occurring simultaneously across a number of dimensions in the world economy, in politics, in communications, in the physical environment and in culture and each of these transformations interact with the others. (p. 1) As far as I am concerned, globalization is happening around daily life. For example, McDonalds, they start from a small restaurant in California to one of the world s leading food service retailers, with more than 35000 restaurants in more than a hundred countries.(McDonald 2014) McDonalds spread the American style fast food worldwide. This can be seen as a globalization of food culture. Since the societies are becoming more and more alike nowadays and leading to a phenomenon known as globalization. Some people afraid that globalization will lead to the loss of cultural identify while some think it can have a good impact on the societies. Based on the bookгЂЉGolden Arches East: McDonald s in East AsiaгЂ‹which indicates the advantages of the food globalization by providing the view that it is not only spreading the food culture but also blending with the locals and the documentaryгЂЉSuper Size

  • 11. The Effects Of Social Media On Teenagers The Social Media Effect When you were a teenager, did social media impact your life? If not, it certainly has had an impact on the teenagers of America today. Social media has been around for a long time. There are many applications for social media, some of which are Twitter, MySpace, and Facebook. With the rapid evolution of social media, people believe that social media is impacting teenagers in a negative way. However, some believe that there are positive effects. The negative effects of social media on teenagers include poor student performance, lack of sleep, and increased vulnerability. However, before any of these arguments can be talked about, it is important that people know the history of social media. The development of social media started in the 1950 s with commercial computers. This led to the creation of personal computers, which paved the way for the development of e mail. One of the key developments of social media is the cell phone. They evolved into Iphones, which include many features such as Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. These allow people to communicate anywhere at any time. The first recognizable social network using the same definition as today s Facebook and MySpace sites was SixDegrees.com, launched in 1997. (Amidon Lusted). From this website, MySpace evolved. Chris DeWolfe and Tom Anderson created MySpace. They wanted this site to have fewer rules, and they wanted people to communicate and share music. • 12. A Joint Venture Between Nora And Sakari The negotiations for a joint venture between Nora and Sakari have been taking place for over two years and 20 meetings. Meeting locations have varied, but have been held in both of the firm s respective countries of Helsinki and KL. So far, the meetings sunk costs in promoting the JV between the two companies are estimated at RM3 million. There are mutual benefits for a cooperative effort. The main benefit for Sakari would be to meet its strategy of expanding R D centres in to South east Asia which is a market of unexploited potential. They would be to meet this strategy if they gained access through Malaysia. Nora s main benefit would be able to fulfill its TMB contract since its bid was reliant on providing Sakari s 4G LTE technology (XX). Despite the benefits that would occur due to the agreement the negotiation efforts failed to reach a JV agreement between the two entities. Some of the major reasons for negotiation failure were due to difference in goals, negotiation and interaction styles, cultural differences and behaviors, and lack of trust. GOALS, NEGOTIATION AND INTERACTION STYLES Their approaches to negotiation and objectives were very different for each party. Nora went in with an integrative negotiation strategy since they had already won their bid based on using Sakari s 4G technology and having a successful agreement would be important in fulfilling the contract with TGMXX. • 13. Essay on Avian Influenza and Its Expected Ramifications Over the past fifteen years H5N1 influenza (also known as Avian Flu or Bird Flu) has become a common topic of speculation and debate worldwide, causing quite a bit of confusion about its possible impacts on our society. At this point in time it is generally recognized by the international medical community that Avian Flu is bound to become a pandemic, most likely within the next ten years. Research on Avian Flu and its effects have led many scholars to make grave predictions of major global turmoil while a small portion of medical scientists remain skeptical, believing we will have enough time to thoroughly prepare for the outbreak. The one thing that nearly all health professionals seem to agree upon is that the avian flu will surely... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many different types of flu, categorized most broadly by influenza A, B, and C strains. They are further classified by genetic differences represented by H and N. Seasonal flus are either type A or B and classified by H3N2, swine flu (a flu strain you may remember by the media stir it caused in 2009) is type A and H1N1, and avian flu is type A and H5N1. Type A flu strains are considered to be the most severe and are usually the only type of influenza that can cause a pandemic. On paper the avian flu may seem like the flu strains that we experience every year, but H5N1 is certainly unique. The first reason for this is that research has suggested that for currently idiopathic reasons the avian flu seems to have a predisposition to mutation, enabling it to rapidly create new strains that may be more dangerous, more contagious, or even resistant to antibiotics (which has already been observed in at least one case of an infected Vietnamese teenager). The reason avian flu has not yet caused any major outbreaks is because right now the virus is unable to be transmitted from human to human, only from bird to bird or bird to human. With such a high tendency to mutate, it is only a matter of time before the avian flu mutates into a strain that can be transmitted between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Lgbt LGBT Rights LGBT RIGHTS: ON THE USA AND BRAZIL 2 Introduction Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgender (LGBT) issues have continuously triggered debates and controversies among various individual s across the globe. The rising concerns leading to the differences in opinions regarding LGBT emanate from the point of perceptions, cultural beliefs, religious values and political basis. Due to the dynamics of not accepting the existence of the LGBT peop le by some individuals in their communities, the LGBTs have found it hard to express themselves freely and enjoy equal rights just like a regular citizen should (Dolan, 2013). For instance, in the United States, the LGBT patients did not have visitation rights until a directive from the Whitehouse was issued. In some communities, extreme measures have been taken against individuals suspected to be lesbians or gays. Because of the way the public view the LGBT people, it is disheartening and traumatizing for most of them to come out and express themselves openly. Some have been forced to lead double standards. However, the situation has changed in different nations and states in America where laws and policies have been developed to support and protect the LGB T community. As a minority group, the LGBT community has struggled over the years to have their rights respected. Despite the existing disagreements surrounding the LGBT rights, several states in the United States of America and Brazil among others have demonstrated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Guggenheim, 1943 59, was built solely for Solomon R, Guggenheim to exhibit his collection of both modern and contemporary art from around the world. This building in New York was said to be one of the architect s most important public projects , the architect being Frank Lloyd Wright. The building that will be put into contrast with the Guggenheim is the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, 1962 68. Mies Van der Rohe was asked to design this new gallery during the modernism period in an act to revive the city of Berlin after the war as part of Kultureforum , a development of new cultural institutions . The Guggenheim museum in New York is unlike any other art gallery/ museum in the world. Its round, top heavy shape is something like no other and Wright prided himself on this artistic integrity1. • 17. Ozone Pollution Essay The Effects of Ozone Pollution The term ozone has appeared in numerous magazine and newspaper articles and has been a subject of discussion on both radio and television. Despite all the publicity surrounding this term, however, many people are still confused by it. The confusion arises from the fact that ozone is both beneficial and harmful. • 18. No Face Movie Sociology Perhaps the best example of the negative views on society come when the character, No Face, shows up. He is normal when Chihiro meets him outside of the bathhouse. Later in the film, as he is let into the bathhouse, he offers money to the spirits, revealing an incredible amount of greed from them. What is interesting is that the spirits were so harsh toward Chihiro for being human, probably because they used to have jobs as spirits but due to human nature they now work at the bathhouse. This causes the spirits to then reflect human nature themselves. Again, it goes back to what man has created, and in the bathhouse the spirits draw many parallels with the business man. No Face then starts to eat people, and becomes very obsessed with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be interpreted very deeply. Chihiro left the door open in the bathhouse for No Face. She was a human, opening the door (literally) to a seemingly unsuspecting free spirit to society. Society drove No Face crazy, and his obsession could represent his resentment toward the source of his transformation, in this case Chihiro, the human. As human caused the problem, Chihiro takes responsibility for letting him in, and makes the comment that the bathhouse (society) makes him crazy. No Face represents the extreme end of the negativities in society, such as the rise of mental disorders, depression, suicide, etc. Chihiro shows the female s ability to empathize, allowing her to refrain from violence yet still solving the problem. Miyazaki presented the issue, and resolved it in an alternative way, with a character that is the paradox of feminism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Boston Marathon Bombing Essay Boston Marathon Bombing On April 15, 2013 during the Boston Marathon in Copley Square, two bombs exploded near the finish line killing at least three and injuring over 170 people. This bombing sent the nation in an uproar and it was immediately recognized as a terrorist attack. When the Federal Bureau of Investigation took over, a few days later a surveillance video and photographs of the two suspects were released. After the suspects were named, Dzhokar Tsarnaev, 19, and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, the violence began. I believe that everyone, at the time, was worried about there safety and anyone would have chose this topic to do research on since it was still in the public eye. A Comparison of Frankenstein 1994 to Frankenstein 1957 Over the past hundred years, Mary Shelley s novel, Frankenstein has been read worldwide, by many different audiences. In the original novel, the creature is given life by Frankenstein, and then he stretches out his arm to see if Frankenstein will accept him as a son. Whereas in the 1957 film he is in a box full of water, and is wrapped in bandages. The creature tries to strangle Frankenstein until he is stopped by Paul. The director of the 1994 film made the lab realistic, by making the lab dirty and showing all sorts of scientific instruments. He also makes Frankenstein take his shirt off, get dirty and really get stuck into the birth of the monster, this suggests that he seems to want to be part of the creation more than in the 1957 version. Also in this film Frankenstein is studying at the university of Ingolstadt and in one scene we see peasants fleeing the city because of an outbreak of a disease. This is something which is not used in the 1957 version. In contrast the 1957 film s director chooses to make Frankenstein wear a suit and work in a very stereotypical lab. Although the 1994 film chooses to use a wider environment, this film decides to use gothic horror, which the other film doesn t, they do this by using lightening when the creature is born. In the 1957 film Frankenstein is portrayed as a posh, snobby and self obsessed this is show by the house he lives in, his servants and the fact that he is always in his lab working on his creation. Good friends like Paul fall out with him because of his creation, Frankenstein is so driven he doesn t care that his best friend has left. Both the flying and sliding motion of the mosquito have been modelled and incorporated in the algorithm. The algorithm was tested for global minima on different type of benchmark functions of various dimension and modality. Namely Gramacy Lee, Ackley, Rastrigin, Rosenbrock, Griewank and Schwefel functions of one, two, five, ten and thirty dimensions. The experiment was done with thirty different seeds generated randomly for each function and dimension. The algorithm was found to be efficient, convergent and accurate. Keywords Evolutionary algorithm, MFO, PSO, GA, ACO, Benchmark optimization function I: Introduction Optimization can be defined as the search for the best possible solution(s) to a given problem. For this, there are a number of optimization techniques both conventional and new meta heuristics. The conventional methods are gradient based which are although quite faster in convergence, but are not applicable for discontinuous, non differentiable and complex multimodal functions. These techniques have limitations to find the global optima and have general tendency to stuck at local optima as they start with a single point. Hence there are exhaustive search methods to tackle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Macbeth was so focused on becoming king that he wanted to eliminate any threat that came his way. The three witches had warned him to watch out for Macduff, so Macbeth decided to kill him. Not knowing that Macduff had fled to England with Malcolm, Macbeth sent hired servents to go kill Macduff. When they realized that Macduff was not there, they decided to kill his family instead to prove the point that Macbeth is not afraid of Macduff. In the play, Macbeth is not present during the murder of Macduff s family but in the movie he is. This was probably the biggest difference between the Macduff family murder in both versions of the story. Another big difference was that in the play when Ross told Macduff that his family had been viciously slaughtered, Macduff did not seem phased at all. He was not very upset, just a little mad. In the movie however, Macduff nearly dies himself when he hears the news that his family had been killed. They made it this way in the movie to make it more dramatic and suspensful to watch. Another major difference in this scene is that in the play, the son of Lady Macduff says Thou liest, thou shag haired villian! (Macbeth 4.2.80). After he yells this at the murderer, the murderer stabs him to death. In the movie, the son never says this and it never shows him getting stabbed. The movie did this to give the audience a chance to envision what the murder was like on their own. The three big differences in the murder of Macduff s family is Macbeth was part of the actual murder in the movie and not the play, Macduff does not get very emotional in the play but he does in the movie, and the movie does not show the son getting stabbed while the book ... Holton argues that the Indians were able to influence the British government to a certain point not to allow American settlers to settle in the Ohio Valley, because the British simply did not want to spend money for British troops that would eventually have to protect the settlers from Indian assaults. • 38. Resist Much, Obey Little Resist Much, Obey Little Kenneth M. Price asserts that Walt Whitman is a foundational figure in American culture. This statement certainly holds true, as the transcendental father of free verse gained his place as one of the 19th century s greatest American writers after self publishing his most renowned work, Leaves of Grass, multiple times, each time with added pieces and revisions of previous ones. The novel, inclusive of his widely recognized poem Song of Myself , composed of fifty two sections, is considered an American landmark in literature. The collection offers profound, universal ideas dealing with significant transcendental concepts such as self love, nonconformity within a society, the ideas that God exists within everything and beyond, and that true comprehension of life involves true appreciation of nature. Prior to his rapid gain of literary recognition, Whitman volunteered as a nurse for the Civil War for three years. His experiences at the hospital inspired numerous poetry and prose pieces, and he soon became certain that he could construct more pieces out of his life changing encounters with wounded soldiers. Walt Whitmans distinct style and technique presented in his work always leads back to the highly significant transcendental principle of nonconformity. A major theme that Walt Whitman conveys throughout his work is that experience is more important than education. One way in which Whitman demonstrates this idea is in When I Heard the Learn d ... In Adrienne Rich s poem The Knight, the reader is given a brief yet profound insight into the deceiving nature of humans; how we give a calm, collected front full of light and purity, yet beneath the surface we are in truth dark and inevitably mortal. The Knight portrays what every man, woman and child must inevitably decide on: to expose their true face or to hide behind a false mask to please others. The initial line A knight rides into the noon evokes a sense that the knight, a chivalrous and pure being, is riding gallantly into the noon, where the sun s brightness is at its apex. When... The reality is completely opposite; inside he is a quivering pile of fat, robed with rags and tatters which clothe him beneath the metal suit. The knight is no different from any other man, the battle wears his nerves to ribbons despite his radiant appearance. He is nervous about the outcome of the battle, whether he will live to charge gloriously into battle once again. When Students Should Declare Their Major When Students Should Declare their Major The post millennial generation has a lot more to consider when choosing a future career than past generations. Students graduating from high school come from a place with strict rules and an inflexible syllabus. These students are only now given the freedom to think for themselves and to discover who they are, what their skills are and what they are passionate about. • 42. The Origin of Migrant Farmworkers Essay The Mexican Migrant Farm Workers community formed in Southern California in the 20th century because of two factors that came together: farming emphasized by migrations like the Okie farmers from the East and Mexicans imported to the U.S. because of the need for cheap labor as a replacement of Americans during World War II. The migrant labor group formed after an already similar group in the U.S had been established in California, the American farm workers from the East, known as the Okies. The Dust Bowlof the 1930s caused the movement of the Okies to the West and was followed by the transition from American dominant farm labor to Mexican migrant labor. Thousands of families journeyed to California, settling in San Joaquin Valley. From 1930 to 1936, the Dust Bowl caused damages in agriculture in the Central Valleys all the way to the East Coast of the U.S. At the time, the majority of the farmers were from Oklahoma, in other words, they were American. Although most of the farmers fleeing the Dust Bowl were U.S born, some were Mexican Americans living in Texas, Arizona and the states closer to the border (Gregory). However, this event did not fully give rise to the Mexican Migrant Farm Workers community. It was instead, the beginnings of successful farm labor in the valleys of California, which transformed California s view towards farming. California seemed perfect, the climate was good for a diversity of crops and it promised a lot to the desolated farmers from the East. Why was this significant to the formation of the Mexican Migrant community? In other words, if the Dust Bowl would not have happened, then farm labor would have not been as significant in California as it is. Californians would have continued mining and building factories in soils that today, are used primarily for agriculture. James N. Gregory, professor at the University of Washington argues that The twentieth century drained rural Americans from the land as surely as it improved the technology and efficiency of farming as he discusses the effects of the ... • 43. Analysis Of Me Talk Pretty One Day By David Sedaris In the article, Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris (1999), the author describes what it was like learning French while living in France. Sedaris moved to Paris in order to learn the language and immerse himself into the culture. He thought this would make learning the language easier. During his time in France, Sedaris experienced intimidation, abuse, and joy. Learning a foreign language as an adult is difficult because of the feeling of intimidation by younger classmates, a hostile learning environment presented by the teacher, and an inherent cognitive disadvantage. On the first day of class, after he was done checking in, he sat down to observe his classmates returning from their summer vacations. Initially, he walked in full of confidence and his head held high. However, that quickly changed when he heard his classmates speak French, and the feeling of intimidation washed over him like waves hitting the beach, at my age, a reasonable person should have completed his sentence in the prison of the nervous and insecure . . . my fears have not vanished, rather, they have multiplied with age (Sedaris, 1999, 1). For being a forty one year old man, he thought these feelings of insecurity and fear in the classroom would have ended long ago. If he thought things could not get worse, he was mistaken. The teacher walked in, rattled off commands to the class, and then asked them to recite the alphabet. In that moment, he knew he was in trouble, I ve spent time in Normandy, and I took a monthlong French class in New York. I am not completely in the dark, yet I only understood half of what she said (Sedaris, 1999, 1) and, despite the exposure he already had, he was still unable to understand everything the teacher was saying. Properly learning and grasping a new language requires support and the proper learning environment from the teacher. However, it did not take long for David to learn that his teacher was verbally abusive, among other negative things. Unfortunately, this realization also came on the first day of class. She spoke to the class in a condescending tone, and insulted each student s ability to speak the language. One day, as she was humiliating David in front of the entire class, she said ... Our hypothesis is that the more competition present in the immediate environment, the smaller and weaker the pinto bean plant will grow to be. • 46. Discourse Is A Shared Way Of Apprehending The World Discourse is a shared way of apprehending the world (Dryzek, 1997). It is understood as the ensemble of ideas, concepts and categories through which meaning is given to social and physical realities, and which is produced and reproduced through an identifiable set of practices (Hajer, 2006: 67). Discourse favors certain description of reality and empowers certain policytools while marginalizing others (Litfin, 1994). Discourses frame the policy debates, limit what are considered reasonable options and inform policy making process (Gregorio et al, 2014). Discourses represent the dominant representatives, understandings and knowledge regimes present in governance debate and they are deeply embedded in the formation of knowledge. The discourses are produced based on the perception and role of the actors (Keller, 2011). Different discourses promote specific conceptualization of environmental problem including the causes of the problems and on their solutions. For instance, discourse on forests seeing as important carbon sink could be different from seeing forest as source of local livelihoods or source of biodiversity. Therefore it is crucial to understand the different construction of meaning by different actors. Current international debates about climate change are shaped by different, often conflicting but also partly overlapping environmental discourses (den Besten et al., 2014). Madison is one of the most influential and groundbreaking legal proceeding in the history of the United States. The Marbury v. Madison case was the first of its kind. Prior to Marbury vs. Madison, it was unclear whether the U.S. Supreme Court had the power to determine the constitutionality of laws or what should happen when the Constitution and a law were in conflict. Consequently the theory of every such government must be that an act of the Legislature repugnant to the Constitution is void. With these words written by Chief Justice Marshall, this case is significant because for the first time, the Supreme Court declared an act of Congress unconstitutional because it was contrary to the Constitution. This decision was the foundation for the Supreme Court s power of judicial review, the power by which the Court could determine the constitutionality of laws passed by Congress. Marshall stated in the majority opinion Court must either decide that case conformably to the law, disregarding the Constitution, or conformably to the Constitution, disregarding the law, the Court must determine which of these conflicting rules governs the case. This came about after he had visited with a few groups of parents a few times to discuss why these parents children seem to have small amounts of success even when they are able to understand and comprehend just like other children. As a result of these meetings the LearningDisabilities Association of America was formed (Pullen, 27). Then later in the mid 1970 s the Educationfor All Handicapped Children Act was put into law which formally identified the concept of learning disabilities (Pullen, 25). After these things were put in place, there was over 10 different descriptions of what learning disabilities can be based off of. For this concept, it will be known as the following description. Learning Disabilities (LD) are created when there is a space between a person s ability to think and reason and not their understanding based on the results from tests. Boys are more prone than girls, African Americans and Latinos are more prone than Whites and Asians. Most adolescents with LD struggle with many academic areas especially in reading.
