Automotive Mechanics
Automotive Mechanic
When I first thought of what career I wanted, I played with computers so I just had the thought of
to do something with computers like programming or a computer systems analyst. When I looked
into more careers I had a bigger interest in cars and from there I wanted to be a mechanic. After
wanting to be a mechanic I thought of who I could talk to or help to see if I would like being a
mechanic and one close person to me that was into cars was my cousin who taught me a lot of
things, like performance over appearance mods, Tuner vs. Ricer .
As a kid I fell in love with the fast and furious movies which that gave me an interest with cars and
wanting to tinker around with them and wanting to know how to fix common problems ... Show

The Creation Of Eve In The Book Of Genesis
According to the book of Genesis it was stated that God created the world in seven days. As a
result the heavens and earth and all their array were completed and on the seventh day God
rested from the work he had undertaken. When the Lord God made the earth and the heavens
there was no sign of life on the barren ground. From the dust of the ground and the breath of life
he formed the man who will be known as Adam. The Lord God settled him in the Garden of
Eden to cultivate and care for it and gave him the freedom of eating from any of the trees of the
garden except the tree of knowledge of good and evil. For the purpose of giving Adam a helper
suited to him God took out one of his ribs and he built it into a woman whom Adam will eventually

In the course of time through their offerings to the Lord he looked with favor on Abel.
Consequently Cain became dejected and due to his discouragement he attacked his brother and
killed him. Due to his actions God put a mark on Cain so that no one would kill him at sight as a
punishment. When human beings began to grow numerous on the earth and daughters were
born to them, the sons of God saw how beautiful the daughters of human beings were, and so
they took for their wives whomever they pleased. The Lord saw how great the wickedness of
humans were and how every desire that their heart conceived was always nothing but evil. He
wished to wipe everything that he has created from the earth given that regret for making them
has consumed him. However, Noah found favor with the Lord and he informed the man that he
would destroy all the mortals along with the earth. God commanded Noah to prepare for the flood
by constructing an ark and bringing into it his family and two of every kind of living creature, one
male and one female. For forty days and forty nights the Lord brought rain down on the earth and
wiped from the face of the earth everything that he had

Environmental Effects Of Organic Pollution And Its Effects...
Organic pollutants normally originate from numerous human activities which include
manufacturing, managing storing, and disposal of chemicals. Industrial places are a contributor of
the contaminations that besiege our environment and this does not stop there as the oil refineries
on their own in some countries cause unquantifiable damages to their land and water bodies.
Agricultural activities which involve use of pesticides and insecticide also contribute, not to talk of
households generally.
THE CHEMICAL INDUSTRY
This is another instance within the feel, commonly due to the fact their waste is known to pollute
waste streams. In real sense, the waste discharge from chemical industry at the moment are
adequately managed and treated earlier than being launched into the environment. There were no
facilities to effect this treatment in the past and so there is a considerable level of damages which
has already struck the water bodies due to this waste disposal by industries. Even though efforts
have commenced to beat to the barest minimum this sort of pollutants, its impact continues have
not totally vanished.
HOUSEHOLD CHEMICALS
There are release of substances which are products of chemical organics that not only affects the
environment but takes decades for it to decompose. We use most of these products in our
environment and though not many know the harms it because they are largely disastrous to the
environment. There are massive campaigns against the use of polythene bags as well as pet bottles
because of the harms which their accumulation causes to the water bodies and animals in the sea.
Chemical substances which contaminate the environment would not out rightly present themselves
as contaminants because some are useful environ to man. This leads to the detergent we use in our
laundry, the constituent of this detergents are not only beneficial but they are also in turn return
devastating characteristics to land. An examination of the labels of a detergent will present to us
the ingredient which is typically unsafe chemical compounds.

Life In Hawaii
Life in paradise is fine; I like the ever present sun and strong sense of community. Yet for as long
as I can remember, I ve felt restless in Hawaii. I ve daydreamed of far away, fairytale kingdoms
in kindergarten and chased after passing airplanes during recess. I was beyond excited when I
visited my relatives in seventh grade, traveling nearly six thousand miles to their homes in China.
Everything in the foreign land fascinated me; my head twisting every which way to marvel at the
sizzling street food or the flash of red on a passing student s uniform. Everyone was buzzing with a
frantic energy that contrasted the laid back lifestyle of Hawaiiand I loved the change of pace. I had

Dare Program Pros And Cons
Is the Dare Program efficient for America s children?
I.Introduction
a.What is Dare? Dare stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, and if you grew up in the
Carmel Clay School district, you have most likely undergone this course and its material many
times. Dare is an administered program that teaches kids about substance abuse, violence, and gang
prevention. According to Dare.Procon.org, This program has been taught in 75% of US school
districts as well as 48 other countries. Today we will be talking about just how efficient this
program really is.
i.Proponents say elementary, middle, and high school students have benefited from this course
material by preventing the use of drugs. They also believe that dare helps to improve interactions

Opponents believe that students have a very negative response to the prevention program.
According to the California Department of Education, 90% of high schoolers reported negative
feelings for the program. It states ... the message is repeated so often at school that the concept
has lost its meaning.. [So right now you may be conjuring up an educated opinion on the wishy
washy topic, but before you side with one or the other, let me tell you a couple more facts]
b.Argument 2
i.Proponents believe that dare improves decision making and attitudes towards drug use. In a
2002 study from the University of Akron, graduates were 6% higher in drug knowledge than
those who never participated in the DARE program. [Now although these studies show a decline
in drug use after undergoing the DARE program, the number of schools who have previously
partnered with DARE have significantly decreased] ii. 60% of school districts have cut out the
program completely since 2001 according to the article N.J. School Drug Abuse Prevention Group

Modern Day Red District Chicago
There are many challenges one can face when writing and directing a movie, this task becomes
significantly harder when the film is going to be an adaptation. One major challenge that is
faced when adapting an ancient play into modern times is to achieve the perfect amount of
intertextuality. Spike Lee was able to put into Chi Raq the perfect amount of modern day
application by setting the movie in modern day red district Chicago. He also is able to add the
correct amount of the original Lysistrata by using it as the main character s name as well as
having the entire movie in verse. Another aspect that is challenging to make in an adaptation is to
choose the correct issue to try and inform the public on. Spike Lee could have chosen the amount
of fighting that happens in an actual declared war zone, but he chose to have the movie be set in
modern day Chicago with a pertinence to educate people on what happens in their country. Even
though intertextuality is a large difficulty that is faced when adapting a filmthere is also the
reception of audience to take into thought. The topic that Chi Raq depicts is a very sensitive
subject. That is that there are many ways that this movie could have come off as more offensive.
It could be offensive to the people of Chicago because the movie is depicting their city to be as
bad as a war zone. As well as an insult to the members of the military thinking that the movie is
making a joke about the war in Iraq. Another challenge that the

The Pipeline Massacre From North Dakota And The Energy...
The Pipeline Massacre
The Sioux Tribe in North Dakota and The Energy Transfer Partners Company have been in a
disagreement over the pipeline that is supposed to go through the Standing Rock Indian reserve last
month. Sadly, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has approved the construction of the pipeline and
now the Sioux tribe has resorted to chaining themselves to backhoes and tractors to get their
attention. This article shows, showing the issue of constructing a pipeline through an Indian
reserve, what processes will take place if the pipeline is allowed to go through Standing Rock, and
how it will affect the Native Americans if they proceed with building the pipeline through the
Standing Rock reservation.
Understanding that America has made a treaty with the Natives, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
and the Energy Transfer Partners Company must also remember the Natives have the right to their
land and resources just as much as Americans have to theirs. There is a fine line between the two,
and what the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Energy Transfer Partners did was illegal and
tactless. Our constitution and laws has been violated many times throughout the process of
constructing this pipeline. They went through loopholes to get the permits without consulting with
the Natives first. Many times the Americans have failed to take into account that Natives have a
certain way they want to live. It is wrong how we oppressed them with our way of life, especially

Michelle Carter Suicide
Is this the day you succumb to your problems and listen to the thoughts, or will you keep on going?
These are the thoughts that were running through Conrad Roy s mind when he was texting his
girlfriend. The Suicide by text case has prompted many people to discuss social issues such as
mental illness and the court system. Michelle Carter was a young teenager who texted her
boyfriend telling him to commit suicidemultiple times. She is now facing years in prison for
involuntary manslaughter. The court system failed with this case but not drastically. They gave
her 2.5 years when she should have been charged as an adult and received twenty years. In June,
Moniz found Carter guilty of involuntary manslaughter, describing her behavior as reckless.
Carter received less years than usual because it was considered reckless and she only wanted
attention. She did not get the full sentence because she was not loved as much as she felt she
should have been. She should have received the full years, but this case was not as bad as others.
The 2.5 year sentence is long, but not long enough for costing someone his life because she wanted

Summer Of The Seventeenth Doll Dramatic Techniques
Summer of the Seventeenth Doll, by Ray Lawler was a bottling performance. A highly effective
use of lighting, set design, props and additional sensory stimulus; were powerful tools in creating a
realistic production. The skilful use of the elements of drama; human context; language, movement,
mood and dramatic tension, enabled the audience to relate to the characters and plot. The
development of sub plots also added to the creation of a realistic performance, by mirroring the
human condition. Through the effective use of these dramatic techniques; Neil Armfield was
successful in creating a realistic portrayal of Ray Lawlers Summer of the Seventeenth Doll.

Olive and Pearl had a somewhat odd friendship at the beginning of the play, Olive tried
desperately to make her standard of life seem fit to the much more classy Pearl. However as their
situations unfold, it is made clear that much of this class in Pearl is surface level only. We learn
her husband has left her and she has a problem daughter. After learning this Olive seems to warm
much more easily to Pearl, possibly reflecting Olive s insecurity around people of a higher class.
Neil Armfield was highly successful in implementing the elements of drama, especially those of
movement, mood, language and tension. All characters within Summer of the Seventeenth Doll
created realistic mood to portray their respective characters. As the summer progressed, the mood
changed dramatically, from the bubbly highs of the first meeting, demonstrated mainly by Olive s
nervous excitement in the moments before the arrival of Roo and Barney; to the depressive
goodbye demonstrated again by Olive when she clears the entire house. When juxtaposed to the
mood of the previous sixteen summers, the audience was able to see from the beginning that this
summer was going to be different; through strong use of mood it was clear that this would be the
last of the summers. While movement was in the most part realistic, the actors did lapse in this
area occasionally; this was most evident in the fight scene between Roo and Barney. However the

Compare And Contrast The Canterbury Tales And The...
Chaucer s Canterbury Tales and Margaret Atwood s Handmaid s Tale are similar in the way that
their tales are each addressed to various audiences and the significance of the tales to each of
these audiences is shaped by the conditions under which they receive the tale. In a broader sense,
the various audiences can be classified into one of two categories. The first of these we will call
the immediate audienceand it consists of the fictional audience that lives within the same space
and time as the storyteller. The second category we will call the audience at large and it includes
the contemporary audience of the authors as well as the modern day readers. Each set of work
has three types of audience that falls into one of these categories. Dynamically, the three audiences
are structured in such a way that they appear to be layered. This layering allows for one group of
audience to sometimes shape and/or challenge the expectations of another audience. The
complexity of how the role of the audience is explored by both The Canterbury Talesand The
Handmaid s Tale is what allows for the meaning of each tale to expand beyond the narrative.
The Canterbury Tales has three distinguishable layers of audience that are addressed by the
various tales; and this layering is created by the boundaries of space and time, as well as the
boundary between fiction and reality. The three audiences are the pilgrims, Chaucer s contemporary
audience and the modern day audience. The pilgrims and

The Indigo Spell
I survived reading The Ruby Circle. Can you believe it? I have battle wounds and I live to tell
you this wondrous tale. I know a half ass written book when I see one. The Ruby Circle, is it.
This book is a train wreck waiting to happen since The Fiery Heart and I couldn t get off fast

books of Bloodlines series. The third book, The Indigo Spell isn t as bad as the latter ones but I
don t have a soft spot for it as its prior installments. The last three books, however is the downfall
of the series. I will try to keep my review with minimum spoilers, but there are no promises
guarantees. Bloodlines series follows the story of Sydney Sage, a teenager girl who is part of an

King Alfred the Great Essay
King Alfred the Great
King Alfred the Great was born at Wantage, in 849, on a royal manor of his father s holding, a
family estate which long afterward he himself would leave in legacy to his wife. Alfred was the
youngest of five children, four sons and a daughter, born to Ethelwulf by his wife Osburh. When
Alfred was four years old, his father, the king, who by now had long despaired of getting to
Rome in the present state of things, decided to send Alfred there, to at least receive the blessing
of the Holy Father. The pope at the time, Leo the IV, gave Alfred the blessing to become king.
Alfred s time came in the year mid April 871, when King Г†thelred died. Only a king of full age
could defend the land, and although Г†thelred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Alfred was not content with being on the defensive. He also attacked the Danish held
City of London in an attempt to diminish the lands ruled under Dane law (Bruce 4). No Anglo
Saxon king was ever strong enough to coerce a recalcitrant peasantry. Except Alfred who
decided to allow half the men liable for service to remain at home while the other half was out
against the Danes (Stenton 261). In order for Alfred to keep peace and defeat the Danes, he had to
win many major battles. On Easter Sunday 878, when King Alfred withdrew into the Isle of
Athelney, there was every likelihood that before the end of the year Wessexwould have been
divided out among the members of the Danish army. King Alfred made sure that Wessex would
escape that fate. Although Alfred did lose a major battle against the Danes only four years ago,
he overcame them in 878 when he won the Battle of Edington. Alfred showed strong resistance
by constantly engaging Danish raiding parties from his base in Athelney. After nearly seven
weeks of strong battles, Alfred was able to begin defeating the Danes (Stenton 253). Along with
Alfred s idea of coercing a recalcitrant peasantry, he had other ways of defeating the Danes as
well. Alfred began building warships in order to develop a navy. The ships in which Alfred built
were twice as long as those which they were intended to meet (Stenton 253). These

Analysis Of The Book House Rules Essay
Each character in the book House Rules is brought to life. Emma is the mother of both Jacob
and Theo; she is the foundation of the book because she makes both her sons who they are.
Although Theo is a little rebellious and gets a crumb of her attention, he has still turned out to
be a reliable brother. One can notice her passion towards the happiness of Jacob. Jodi Picoult
brings Jacob s character and illness alive, revealing both greatest and poorer qualities of Jacob.
The twist to the story exhibits that Jacob is much more than his ailment and cares for his family.
The author glued all the pieces of the book perfectly. House Rules made my heart beat a little
faster when Jacob was suffering in jail and resorted to inflicting pain on him and made my visage
change expression. At the same time, it made me laugh when Jacob waved his right hand when the
judge asked him if he knew what it meant to waive his rights. A lot of Jacobs s humor is related to
the behaviors that are included with Asperger syndrome. Jacob always quotes song lyrics and lines
from movies because it calms and an exit to run to. It is hilarious how he literally takes situations.
Once, Jacob s attorney expresses that if he needs a sensory break, he should pass a note .
Furthermore, Jacob passes a note that says F# (F sharp). Moreover, another captivating aspect of
Jacob is his obsession with forensics. Though it is this fixation that ultimately gets him in trouble,

peaceful, aggressive, wanted or unwanted, each place shares a link with another. Australia has
countless connections across the world, but one continent we have a major connection with is Asia,
more specifically South Asia. The AsiaAustralia relationship can be separated into cultural and
political links. These cultural links include customs and traditions, religion, literature and art and
food and language. The political connections are history, politics and economy and trade.
CULTRUAL
Australia is one of the most multicultural countries on Earth, meaning people from many different
countries reside there. This can also make it difficult to find what a broad term for Australian
culture is, due to its many influences. But the aboriginal part to Australia s history does have a
specific culture we can identify. On the other hand South Asia s culture can be clearly defined.
South Asia has influenced Australia, and vice versa. They also share similarities and differences
throughout each other s customs, religions, art and food and language.
CUSTOMS
Within South Asia, most of them share similar social behaviours to one another. One of these
customs include wearing modest clothing and covering their heads with scarves. Clothes are
typically draped and colourful. Most people in the younger generation, now dress in more western
clothes (such as jeans and t shirts), but for special

Prostitution, Prostitution And The Commercialization Of...
Prior to the decision in Canada (Attorney General) v. Bedford, prostitution and the
commercialization of sexual services was not illegal; however there were three legislative
barriers surrounding prostitution related acts that implicated sex workers of criminal offences,
thus the decision to work safe or risk arrest made their line of work difficult (Durisin, Love , van
der Meulen, 2013). Due to public demand and the need to clean street prostitutes, the
criminalization of prostitute related activities repressed the working conditions of sex workers
(Crago Clamen, 2013). Prostitutes a public nuisance had to choose whether to work safely or
risks arrests (Crago Clamen, 2013). This paper will focus on the violence against sex workers
due to the regulation of sex workers through the Criminal Code of Canada, which increased their
vulnerability to violence from their clients and the police harassment (Lowman, 2013). The
criminalization of commercial sexual acts has led to increased violence and due to the public s
perception of sex work as an immoral act, the safety of sex workers was not adequately monitored
by law enforcement agencies. There is a need for the decriminalization of all forms of commercial
sex which will create a safer and secure environment under labour regulations (rather than criminal
regulations), where sex workers can engage in their profession without the threats or acts of
violence. Under a deviant frame, prostitutions is viewed as an immoral

The Great Pyramid Of Giza Research Paper
The Great Pyramid of Giza was one of the seven wonders of the world because of its size, its
background, and the amount of time it took to build. The Great Pyramid of Giza is a very
important artifact to us today and in the Ancient world. The size of the Great Pyramid of Giza
helped make it one of one of the seven wonders of the world. The Pyramid itself is 481 feet tall
and the workers actually had to make ramps to get the two and a half to fifteen ton blocks into
the higher level of the Pyramid (National Geographic). The Pyramid had 2.3 million blocks that
made up the Pyramid (National Geographic). The background of the Pyramid is also a big part
of why it s one of the Seven Wonders Of The World. The Pyramid was made for Pharaoh Khufu
for when he died (Bower). It is the largest Pyramid ever built still to this day (Bower). The
Pyramid had three burial chambers for the Pharaoh and his family. The chambers had to have six
roofs to hold the heavy amount of weight of the blocks above (National Geographic). The Great
Pyramid of Gizawas located a couple of miles North of the Nile and was directed almost perfectly

Neuroscience Of Giving Importance
The Neuroscience of Giving (Ch. 15)
An fMRI scanning machine was used for research on the brain; in a study they used this machine to

Research On Information Metering And Measurement
Information Metering and Measurement
Study in information metering and measurement can be classified into smart metering, and smart
monitoring and measurement. In the following, this classification in point.
a)Smart Metering: Smart metering is the mainly important mechanism used in the Smart Grid for
obtaining information from end users devices and appliances, while also controlling the
performance of the devices. Automatic metering infrastructure (AMI) systems, which are
themselves built upon automatic meter reading (AMR) systems, are broadly regarded as a sound
strategy to realize Smart Grid. AMR is the technology of routinely collecting analytical, expenditure,
and status data from energy metering devices and transferring that data to a central database for
billing, troubleshooting, and analyzing. AMI differs from traditional AMR in that it enables two
way communications with the meter. So almost all of this information is available in real time and
on demand, allowing for better system operations and customer power demand organization.
b) Smart meters, which carry two way communications amid the meter and the central system, are
like in many aspects to
AMI meters, or occasionally are regarded as part of the AMI.
A smart meter is typically an electrical meter that records use in intervals of an hour or less and
sends that information at least every day back to the utility for monitoring and billing purposes.
Also, a smart meter has the capability to

Identity, Authenticity and Survival Essay
Formative Writing I : Identity, Authenticity and Survival by Kandru Manibhushan Rao Kwame
Anthony Appiah s essay on Identity, Authenticity and Survival is based on Charles Taylor s earlier
work on recognition and identity. Though Taylor s references to identity are mostly to collective
identity, Appiah s aim is to draw a comparison or even find a connection between individual identity
and collective identity. Identity A collective identity, explains Appiah, is the way an individual is
recognized based on broad qualities of categorization such as gender, religion, ethnicity, sexual
orientation, etc. Whereas individual identity is born from personal characteristics such as wit,
charm, grace,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
* Individual Dimension: This comprises of traits such as intelligence, charm, wit, cupidity, etc.
which are all socially important features. Authenticity Authenticity, as described by authors such
as Lionel Trilling and Charles Taylor is the idea of living one s life by one s own reference and
for one s own self without yearning for recognition or acceptance from the collective or society.
However, Appiah points out that the search for authenticity is somewhat a paradoxical one. The
search for authenticity, as said, goes as much against the demands for a prescribed social life as it
does for the recognition of one s real self. There are two layer for recognition of originality
/authenticity: * How a person identifies or recognizes himself among other people. * How a culture
bearing group (minority) recognizes itself among a larger group. This leg of Appiah s essay focuses
extensively on Trilling s contradictory statements on authenticity. Claiming one s authentic
ethnicity, for example, for the need of expressing one s originality in turn proves one s need for
social acknowledgement for such originality. Even counterconventionalism requires needs
recognition from conventionalist. The problem that arises here is, in order to be original, an
individual has to understand convention and being everything that it is not, thus resulting in the
individual being not authentic,

Striving for Authentic Happiness Essays
Globalization and the development of technology have provided people with more opportunities to
do whatever they want. Because of the choices, people seem to be happier to make their own
choices. However, Martin E.P. Seligman, the author of Authentic Happiness, would argue that they
are not happy because that kind of happinessdoes not last long. In his book, Seligman explains that
there are two kinds of happiness, pleasureand gratification. He says, [t]he pleasures are delights that
have clear sensory and strong emotional components, what philosophers call raw feels : ecstasy,
thrills, orgasm, delight, mirth, exuberance, and comfort. They are evanescent, and they involve
little, if any, thinking (102). As he shows, pleasure is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to him, gratification is a key for people to have a good life. However, Seligman
explains, [g]ratification dispels self absorption, and the more one has the flow that gratification
produces, the less depressed one is (119). Although it is clear that people need gratification more
than pleasures, he points out that [t]o start the process of eschewing easy pleasures and engaging
in more gratifications is hard (119). This difficulty of attaining gratification might make people to
choose pleasure rather than gratification. Thus, according to Seligman s definitions of happiness, it
is easier for humans to seek pleasure rather than to seek gratification. In The Psychology of
Globalization , Jeffery Jensen Arnett illustrates that young people focus on self longer by
extending adulthood. Arnett notes, in global culture, people value on individualism, free market
economics, and democracy and include freedom of choice, individual rights, openness to change,
and tolerance of differences (779). Arnett argues that globalization, especially increasing the
number of choices and allowing people to have freedom of choices affect each individual s
psychological functioning. He points out, [w]hen people are allowed to make their own choices
about values, love, and work, the likelihood may be enhanced that they will find a

Paperless Tickets
As a sports fan, what do you think of paperless tickets to attend a sporting event?
I believe paperless tickets are useful, considering that it provides a new, efficient, and alternative
way to accelerate the process of validating your ticket at a venue. I recently had an experience with
paperless tickets when I went to the Knicks vs. Wizards games about two weeks ago. Before
attending the game I had the tasks of printing out the tickets that my friend paid for. On the

reputation of the ticketing system, as they do not value the customer needs. They also do not
provide different options other than transferring the ticket. In other words, ticket outlets like

I am also a Resident Assistant for the second consecutive year. I hope that this will help me when I
apply for summer internships in the spring semester. An internship will be crucial to my success
and I will do everything within my reach to obtain one.
FUTURE
The first thing I will do once I receive a degree in business administration will be to move out of
Troy. The small town does not offer any opportunities I am interested in. I plan on moving to
Atlanta where the opportunities of growth are endless. I will be able to make connections, obtain a
master s degree from a reputable university, and have more job opportunities around me. Once I

Haiti, the second largest island in the Caribbean founded in 1749 surrounded by Dominican
Republic, Cuba, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico. Haiti has thrived and been replenished upon multiple
occasions due to hurricanes, earthquakes, and fires. Though Haiti sought independence as early as
1804, Haiti was never truly independent. Haiticontinues to endure much death, hardship, economic

Persuasive Effect Of Advertising In Advertising
Advertisements play a highly important role in the United States consumerist society, as
Americans are exposed to ads in nearly every form of media. Each of these ads target a different
audience and have varying levels of persuasive effect. Take for example an Audi commercial that
was released in 2017, where clowns drove around recklessly and created a dangerous environment
for other drivers. In this commercial, different safety features of the Audi cars caused the vehicles
to avoid crashes in spite of the dangerous driving around them. The content of this advertisement
helps to determine the target audience: wealthy American drivers. The use of clowns within the
commercial provided evidence that the ad primarily targeted American consumers, as clowns were
depicted as both a symbol of humor and fearor danger. This media portrayal of clowns as a scary
and dangerous symbol, along with the common childhood fear of clowns, is mostly unique to
American culture. As a result, those from different countries or different cultural backgrounds
would have less understanding of this advertisement. The high price for purchasing a new Audi
vehicle also gave evidence that the advertisement was targeting wealthy consumers. The persuasive
effect that the advertisement has on this target audience is determined by a number of message
strategies used throughout the commercial. These strategies included fear appeal, appeals to
positive emotion, and storytelling, with each of these strategies

Child Labor Laws In 1900
Child Labor Laws In 1900, children as young as nine years old were once expected to work
sixteen hours a day in harsh conditions. They were useful because of their small size and the
owners being able to pay low wages. Child labor laws exist because brave men, women, and
children fought for these rights. The conditions of the children s working environment caused
Lewis Hine and the newsies to act upon it.
In 1900s about 18 percent of all American workers were under the age of sixteen. The educational
reformers of mid nineteenth century were convicted to be native born population that an education

The general public also didn t like them. 1815 writer wrote that there are 10,000 children living

on the sidewalks they would surround you. They also would try to force you to buy their
newspaper. They looked ragged and dirty all the time. Newsie were employees of the publisher
and are not newspapers. They would buy paper from publisher and sell them, acting as
independent agents. Typically earning was about thirty cents per day. In 1898 publish raised
the cost of papers to newsboys from fifty to sixty cents per one hundred papers. Sense the

there was a large number of boys that refused to dispute the world. There was people who
protested on the Brooklyn bridge and stopped traffic and news distributers. Demonstrated by
cowling the paper cans and threatening the cart drivers. They threw rocks or beat up at those
who didn t honk. So they brought support to their cases. Then the strike ended after paper had
lost a lot of money. Newsboy strike of 1899 proved a big step in child labor rights. It inspired
strike such as the butte, Montana newsboys and the strike of 1914 and a 1920s strike in
Kentucky. Strikes proved that children had power. They could organize and make things happen
for themselves. The photos of Lewis Hine and the organization of a strike by the Newsie of the

Cultural Diversity In College
It s important for students to have a cultural diversity in a college because it helps them to keep an
open mind and learn about the different cultures around them instead of being kept in a bubble of
isolation. Also, it connects people that comes from different backgrounds which can help them
grow their minds when it comes to learning about a tradition that comes from someone else s culture
. This can be able to open up new opportunities such as careers either within their area or overseas.
Another thing is that it helps the students become self aware with decisions the students might
make based on a certain problem that the students might face in their life. Culture diversity not only
helps you to become more open minded, but to also connect with the world. Without having an
open mindthe students will just have a narrow view of the world since they re not expanding their
views from outside of it except from what they are given to see. We think it s important to show that
great higher educationcan be there for all people (Watanabe 1). Also it help the students to promote
creative thinking, when it comes to problems one might go through they would have many options
with the decisions they are deciding about instead just staying inside the box. The students has the
opportunity to go and find the solution through a different way. This explains how in a college with
a cultural diversity can affect the student s education, but in a good way that can be spread around

How Architects Change The World
How Architects Change the World
To provide meaningful architecture is not to parody history, but to articulate it. Daniel Libeskind
Mankind has built structures since the beginning of time and every structure which has been built
throughout history has a story behind it. The reasons for building these structures are many and
varied. The main reason for building a structure is out of necessity. Buildings such as the aqueducts
of Rome, Windsor Castle of Medieval Europe, and the Golden Gate Bridge, were built out of
necessity. Another reason for building a structure is an artistic expression or to express a sentiment,

Without architects, none of us would be living in houses, none of us would have schools to go to,
and none of us would have bridges to cross water. One good example of a structure being built out
of necessity is the golden gate bridge.
The Golden Gate Bridge
The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco is a suspension bridge 4,200 feet long spanning the San
Francisco Bay. It opened in 1937 and was the longest suspension bridge in the world until 1964.
Joseph Strauss was the head engineer for the bridge, but it was ultimately designed by Leon
Moisseiff, who was also the championed designer of the Manhattan Bridge. The bridge cost over
35 million dollars and from it s opening through January 2014, over two billion vehicles have

Irving Morrow because it complements the natural scenery, and this orange makes this bridge one
of the most recognized bridge in the world.
In addition to being one of the most recognized bridge in the world, today the Golden Gate
Bridge is one of the most photographed and the most driven over bridge in the world. It s lasting
impact is not only it s usefulness but also the aesthetic appeal it adds to the California landscape

The 1950s began a trend of parenting which resulted in what were called latchkey children. As
many fathers had been killed in World War II and many mothers needed to work, the oldest child
of a family was often drafted to take care of the household. (Hostutler) In the absence of their
parents, latchkey children often had responsibility forced upon them at a very young age. This
early maturity in adolescence resulted in the desire for independence and rejection of authority
which is commonly associated with teenagers. Along with not having a parent to take care of
them, latchkey children did not have a parent to teach them how to interact with the world.
Because of this, teenagers largely learned important moral lessons from their peers or from mass
media, rather than from their parents. As radio, the main form of media at the time, was slowly
becoming more populated by smaller rock bands, often with members not much older than
latchkey children themselves, the morals of those children become the morals of rock and roll,

The history of Napa Valley and many vineyard growing areas of California are fraught with a

Principal markets in the East Coast preferred wines from France and Italy because they were

Today, the Napa Valley Vintners trade association consists of hundreds of wineries working
together to improve the region. This sense of collection has always been a part of Napa s history.
During the late 1870s, Charles Krug, Henry Pellet, and Seneca Ewer created the St. Helena

The Land Ethic is an essay written by Aldo Leopald in order to convince readers of a new view
centered around the biotic community and the rejection of anthropocentrism. It continually
supports non human life along with human life as long as it is beneficial to the biotic community.
1. Carefully explain what Leopold means by the land ethic.
When speaking of the land ethic, Aldo Leopold states that A thing is right when it tends to preserve
integrity, stability, and beauty of the biotic community. It is wrong when it lends otherwise. This is
boiled down to a simple point saying that when something is eco friendly, it supports and is the

disrespectful and paradoxical view of the land. Why does Leopold believe that a land ethic is both
an evolutionary possibility and an ecological necessity? Evolutionary possibility: an evolution of
the moral code. Now including non humans. First ethic: between individuals.
Leopald believes that the land ethic is both an evolutionary possibility and an ecological necessity
because throughout the course of philosophy, there has been an evolution from first ethics which
dealt with relation between individuals (p238) to a land ethic which now focuses on the relation
between humans and non human, morally considerable beings. This transition has been an
evolution of sorts and has allowed, for some people, to broaden the view of life, ethics, and how
one approaches different scenarios that involve multiple morally considerable beings. The Land
Ethic is an ecological necessity because at this point in time humans view the world with an
anthropocentric view. This has

Every culture has a memorable type of literature. When one thinks of English literature, one thinks
of William Shakespeare or Charles Dickens. The American writers Thoreau, Clemens, and Emerson
bring to mind the days when America was still proving herself to be equal to the European
countries. France had her own artists, such as Voltaire and Hugo, as did Spain with Cervantes and
Dante. However, when one thinks of Latin America, what writers come to mind? Very few of these
authors are as well known as those mentioned. However, through the concept of a previously
unknown literature, the world is viewing Latin America in a new light. Magical Realism seems to

Europe once cast out
America, the world once cast out Germany and Austria, and the literary world once cast out Latin
America. This culture, just like so many others, was criticized to extreme levels and yet prevailed
to bring to the world this remarkable new literary movement: Magical Realism.
The purpose and definition of Magical Realism are not easily reached as so many writers
disagree upon so many aspects. For instance, Roh believes Magical Realism takes an aspect of
society, usually overlooked, and adds a special essence that makes one truly appreciate the beauty
of life (17). Roh states, The point is not to discover the spirit beginning with objects, but...to
discover objects beginning with the spirit (24).
As Leal points out, Flores gives no definition or purpose specifically in his text. Flores does,
however, discuss many examples of Magical Realism and recites lines from the works to exemplify
how different each work is. Leal states in his work:
In magical realism key events have no logical or psychological explanation. The magical realist
does not try to copy the surrounding reality (as the realists did) or to wound it (as the surrealists
did) but to seize the mystery that breathes behind things. (123)
This excerpt from Leal is in keeping with the theory of Roh. They agree that one should capture an
idea or a feeling beginning with the spirit of that same subject.

Behind The Bedroom Wall Discrimination
There Is Only One Race, And That Is Human
There should be no discrimination against languages people speak, skin color, or religion.
Discrimination has been a problem for centuries, but just because your a different race or
nationality doesn t mean we are different. There is only one race, and that is human. The text,
Behind the Bedroom Wall talks about a girl named Korinna who is growing up during the
holocaust. She has been taught that the Jews are enemies and that she should not go near them.
When she finds out her parents have been hiding Jews behind her bedroom wall she has choose
between what she has been taught or what she knows is right and what she believes in. The text,

Even though her sample size was not representative of the whole population it was enough to
determine that the main reason why black students are starting to do homeschool is because of
racism. Many black parents describe the white teachers through negative commentary due to their
children being discriminated. There are many white children who have grown up around
stereotypes, just like Korinna in the book Behind The Bedroom Wall. They have been taught to stay
away or bully black children. In the Washington Posts article, Racism in schools is pushing more
black families to homeschool their children the text states, Furthermore, the attitudes and actions of
white teachers (who make up 85 percent of all public school teachers) were questioned by many of
the African American parents with whom I spoke. They consistently portrayed white teachers as
overly critical, unresponsive, unqualified, insensitive, offensive, mean, hypocritical, and using
double standards. Parents of black students are noticing changes in their children s behaviors.
Research shows that many black students are coming home, crying, due to discrimination. This is
the reason that black students are starting to be homeschooled. Further in to the article the text
mentions, Certainly, the parents I interviewed were very much aware of and concerned about the

The American and Finnish Education Systems
Education is one of the cornerstones and pillars to the establishment and preservation of democracy.
In history, countless scores of philosophers and political thinkers believed that only an educated
citizenry can take on the quintessential task of upholding democracy. Thomas Jefferson, the
primary writer of the Declaration of Independence, stated that an informed citizenry is the only true
repository of the public will. A renowned defender of public education, Jefferson proposed plans for
an education system that included grammar schools in his presidency. As a result of these relentless
policies for education, the United States expanded on the concept of public instruction through the
establishment and upkeep of a practical education... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The difference of two years for the commencement of compulsory education contributes to the
effectiveness of the Finnish education system, as opposed to the American system. Starting
compulsory school at the age of seven, students have more time to mature and recognize school as a
positive environment. Students are determined and poised to learn more at school if they enjoy the
environment, as opposed to the United States system, where children typically start school around
five, offering a more negative outlook on school. The opportunity cost of having American students
start earlier in their education careers is the lack of determination and positive view in the starting
years of instruction, which makes the system less effective.
The second difference between the organization of the education systems is the conclusion of the
compulsory education. After completing their basic education of nine years in Finland, pupils go
on to the second level of schooling, known as general secondary education, for three years. After
completing the secondary education level, students must partake in a matriculation examination in
order to pass general secondary education. The matriculation examination is the only standardized
test in the nation that students are required to take. Passing the exam permits

Controversy with Elvis Presley
Rock and roll music existed before Elvis Presley came along, but with his arrival on the
performing scene, Americans could ignore it no longer. In 1956, he strode in front of a television
camera for the first time as the provocative image of a high school hood and achieved an instant
rapport with millions of U.S. teenagers who were experiencing their own adolescent rebellion. Hip
wiggling gyrations that brought a storm of protest from the adult world reinforced his popularity
with young people, and he became the epitome of a whole generation that saw itself as defiant,
disenchanted, and less inhibited than the one that had gone before. His songs, an amalgam of white

Not all of his vocalizing was even or polished, especially in his earlier recordings, but he was
capable of achieving a rich baritone sound with a light, free, wide vibrato. There are some
excellent technical moments in his singing, particularly in ballads such as It s Now or Never .
The development of his vocal style could also be studied partly in terms of vocal technique and
partly to explore the changes that occurred in his vocal quality and choice of songs as the
innovative singer was accepted by the establishment. His early LPs, Elvis and Elvis Presley, can be
compared and contrasted with later albums such as GI Blues and From Elvis in Memphis.
Some say Elvis Presley was targeted for his alleged vulgarity and sexually explicit behavior due to
fear of possible racial integration. Elvis found himself center of a scandal due to his love for music
and his passion for touching his fans with his music. He was targeted for his singing of what
was considered back then to be black music . For years there were debates on the alleged comment
made by Elvis that all blacks could for him was shine his shoes. Some still believe it to this day. I
don t believe the comment was ever made by Elvis and after doing

Tidal Energy and the Methods to Harness It Essay
Tidal Energy and the Methods to Harness it
Introduction:
The world is in a crisis. Traditional energy sources such as oil, coal, and natural gas are dwindling
at an alarming rate. Governments are struggling to purchase those resources in enough volume to
feed their citizens. It is becoming abundantly clear that something needs to be done to meet, and
eventually surpass current energy demands. One of the resources that is essentially unlimited is a
resource called Tidal Energy. Tidal Energy has been estimated that it can create 2110 terrawatt hours
in the United States (7) alone. That is an astonishing amount of energy.

Basically this technology is floating spheres at the bottom of the ocean floor that move back
and forth with waves, capturing the kinetic energy as it moves and generates electricity. This
technology operates all the time and doesn t totally depend on the time of day to really work.
Others are sunk turbines which catch the energy as water flows through them. This technology
is probably the fastest growing technology because of the fact that it has no current
environmental impacts. These technologies don t trap silt and are easily avoidable by the local
wildlife and merchant ships. Also the material needed to build these tidal farms is much less
than it would be to build a wind farm because water us much more dense making it easier for a
smaller turbine to catch and change the kinetic energy into power that we can use. (1,2,3,4)
There is also a type of technology called a tidal lagoon that companies and governments are
looking at utilizing to help produce energy. They function very similar to barrages, except they
don t need an inlet to work. These can be made along the coastlines of islands and countries.
They look a lot like little harbors stretching across the coastline. These also don t even need to be
made using artificial building materials, which cuts back on the costs of building them. The
process is the same as barrages, the sea rushes in and is held back at high tide. Then at low tide the
water is allowed to rush over turbines turning them and generating

Within Hunter S. Thompsons book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and the movie Easy Rider
directed by Dennis Hopper the involvement of drugs is important as the represent a greater picture
of the American values and where they are headed. The use of drugs is looked down upon by
American values due to the effects that it has on people, and the amount of deaths it leads to each
year. The use of drugs does not fit in with the American values of having the American Dream,
which is represented through having the perfect family, a house within the suburbs, and stable job.
Drugs play no part in the American Dream, but rebel against such a notion such as the American
dream. Both the book and movie have many similarities in the way that druguse plays a major
factor within the characters lives, while at the same time serving a different purpose for both the
book and novel. Within Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Raoul Duke and Easy Riders Wyatt and

In this class I did not expect to become so intrigued about early life and the growth of how early
hominids developed. I thought that I was taught most of how we early humans developed and
came to be. Realizing that I did not I looked deeper into the study of different types of monkeys,
apes, and gorillas, especially the study Dian Fossey did on Titus. With this study it began to
separate how us humans and primates use altruistic behaviors. Figuring out the different motives
humans and primates had and how they came to interact between there communities I began to see
we have behaviors that are similar. Although altruistic behaviors has to do with relatives and their

Roughnecks And The Saints Essay
Our society has lived around giving people nicknames, labels or titles. Schools specifically can
be a spot where these labels have been detrimental on a person s view of themselves. Labeling or
stigmatizing is when someone uses a label or nickname to degrade someone who is considered
different. Insults and jokes can enforce these labels. People who are different can be labeled
something which may make them feel more insignificant about themselves, and if these labels are
repeated the person may even come to believe the label. In the case of the Saints and the
Roughnecks it was the citizens who stigmatized these teenagers to the point where the kids were
they were not given any other future besides the one that follow what their label was. The

the students by the community was in fact the Roughnecks and the Saints. Though the Roughnecks
did not seem to have a label variation, it was clear that the Saints were not as perfect as the
community believed them to be. The main reason for this variation is deception.
The Saints hid many of their reckless acts and while around the community they put on faces which
would make them seem like the best of men. The perception of the community was that of young
men who did well in school and sports, even though they had their fun, and were the models of
every day students. With this fake perception the Saints could get away with more acts including
cheating on tests or speeding through a stop sign. Police officers, teachers and more only wanted
obedience from these students. The students though seemly giving obedience in fact used deception

Dancing With Wolves By Kevin Costner
Dancing with wolves, was directed and starred by Kevin Costner. Originally, this movie was
basically an attempt to show both sides of the Native Americans and the White settlers. It
showed how the Native Americans perceives their insights on how the white settlers coming into
the Western frontier was within the concept of Manifest destiny. The film is narrated from his
point of view by Costner who plays Lieutenant Dunbar. Dunbar takes a risk to do a suicide
charge and while surviving from it he is rewarded a spot on the frontier, which he really wanted
to go see it before it disappears forever. Traveling to find his post he comes upon an abandoned
post, where he resides. When at Fort Sedgewick, Dunbar also befriends a wolf he names Two
Socks for its white forepaws his first known friend being out in the West. He noted everyday into
a journal like a diary marking his experiences or feelings and taking in all the beauty of the land.
After a while he comes in contact with the the Sioux Indians, which sooner or later gets to know
on a more personal level. Dunbar at first didn t know exactly how to feel but after a few curious
acts upon the native Americans he wasn t afraid of them he only wanted to communicate with
them and make peace. I believe this film does an amazing job of showing how the American West
landscape was and how the soul of the the Sioux Indians were with vivid imagery, language and
body language. More than half of the film is dialogued because they were

When the Lord God made the earth and the heavens there was no sign of life on the barren ground. From the dust of the ground and the breath of life he formed the man who will be known as Adam. The Lord God settled him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and care for it and gave him the freedom of eating from any of the trees of the garden except the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Organic pollutants normally originate from numerous human activities which include manufacturing, managing storing, and disposal of chemicals. Industrial places are a contributor of the contaminations that besiege our environment and this does not stop there as the oil refineries on their own in some countries cause unquantifiable damages to their land and water bodies. Agricultural activities which involve use of pesticides and insecticide also contribute, not to talk of households generally. There are massive campaigns against the use of polythene bags as well as pet bottles because of the harms which their accumulation causes to the water bodies and animals in the sea. Chemical substances which contaminate the environment would not out rightly present themselves as contaminants because some are useful environ to man. • 9. Modern Day Red District Chicago There are many challenges one can face when writing and directing a movie, this task becomes significantly harder when the film is going to be an adaptation. One major challenge that is faced when adapting an ancient play into modern times is to achieve the perfect amount of intertextuality. Spike Lee was able to put into Chi Raq the perfect amount of modern day application by setting the movie in modern day red district Chicago. He also is able to add the correct amount of the original Lysistrata by using it as the main character s name as well as having the entire movie in verse. Another aspect that is challenging to make in an adaptation is to choose the correct issue to try and inform the public on. Spike Lee could have chosen the amount of fighting that happens in an actual declared war zone, but he chose to have the movie be set in modern day Chicago with a pertinence to educate people on what happens in their country. Even though intertextuality is a large difficulty that is faced when adapting a filmthere is also the reception of audience to take into thought. The topic that Chi Raq depicts is a very sensitive subject. That is that there are many ways that this movie could have come off as more offensive. It could be offensive to the people of Chicago because the movie is depicting their city to be as bad as a war zone. As well as an insult to the members of the military thinking that the movie is making a joke about the war in Iraq. Another challenge that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Pipeline Massacre From North Dakota And The Energy... The Pipeline Massacre The Sioux Tribe in North Dakota and The Energy Transfer Partners Company have been in a disagreement over the pipeline that is supposed to go through the Standing Rock Indian reserve last month. Sadly, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has approved the construction of the pipeline and now the Sioux tribe has resorted to chaining themselves to backhoes and tractors to get their attention. This article shows, showing the issue of constructing a pipeline through an Indian reserve, what processes will take place if the pipeline is allowed to go through Standing Rock, and how it will affect the Native Americans if they proceed with building the pipeline through the Standing Rock reservation. Understanding that America has made a treaty with the Natives, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Energy Transfer Partners Company must also remember the Natives have the right to their land and resources just as much as Americans have to theirs. There is a fine line between the two, and what the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Energy Transfer Partners did was illegal and tactless. Our constitution and laws has been violated many times throughout the process of constructing this pipeline. They went through loopholes to get the permits without consulting with the Natives first. Michelle Carter was a young teenager who texted her boyfriend telling him to commit suicidemultiple times. She is now facing years in prison for involuntary manslaughter. The court system failed with this case but not drastically. They gave her 2.5 years when she should have been charged as an adult and received twenty years. In June, Moniz found Carter guilty of involuntary manslaughter, describing her behavior as reckless. Carter received less years than usual because it was considered reckless and she only wanted attention. She did not get the full sentence because she was not loved as much as she felt she should have been. She should have received the full years, but this case was not as bad as others. After learning this Olive seems to warm much more easily to Pearl, possibly reflecting Olive s insecurity around people of a higher class. When juxtaposed to the mood of the previous sixteen summers, the audience was able to see from the beginning that this summer was going to be different; through strong use of mood it was clear that this would be the last of the summers. • 13. Compare And Contrast The Canterbury Tales And The... Chaucer s Canterbury Tales and Margaret Atwood s Handmaid s Tale are similar in the way that their tales are each addressed to various audiences and the significance of the tales to each of these audiences is shaped by the conditions under which they receive the tale. In a broader sense, the various audiences can be classified into one of two categories. The first of these we will call the immediate audienceand it consists of the fictional audience that lives within the same space and time as the storyteller. The second category we will call the audience at large and it includes the contemporary audience of the authors as well as the modern day readers. Each set of work has three types of audience that falls into one of these categories. Dynamically, the three audiences are structured in such a way that they appear to be layered. This layering allows for one group of audience to sometimes shape and/or challenge the expectations of another audience. The complexity of how the role of the audience is explored by both The Canterbury Talesand The Handmaid s Tale is what allows for the meaning of each tale to expand beyond the narrative. The Canterbury Tales has three distinguishable layers of audience that are addressed by the various tales; and this layering is created by the boundaries of space and time, as well as the boundary between fiction and reality. When Alfred was four years old, his father, the king, who by now had long despaired of getting to Rome in the present state of things, decided to send Alfred there, to at least receive the blessing of the Holy Father. He also attacked the Danish held City of London in an attempt to diminish the lands ruled under Dane law (Bruce 4). No Anglo Saxon king was ever strong enough to coerce a recalcitrant peasantry. Except Alfred who decided to allow half the men liable for service to remain at home while the other half was out against the Danes (Stenton 261). In order for Alfred to keep peace and defeat the Danes, he had to win many major battles. On Easter Sunday 878, when King Alfred withdrew into the Isle of Athelney, there was every likelihood that before the end of the year Wessexwould have been divided out among the members of the Danish army. King Alfred made sure that Wessex would escape that fate. Although Alfred did lose a major battle against the Danes only four years ago, he overcame them in 878 when he won the Battle of Edington. Alfred showed strong resistance by constantly engaging Danish raiding parties from his base in Athelney. After nearly seven weeks of strong battles, Alfred was able to begin defeating the Danes (Stenton 253). Along with Alfred s idea of coercing a recalcitrant peasantry, he had other ways of defeating the Danes as well. Alfred began building warships in order to develop a navy. • 22. Prostitution, Prostitution And The Commercialization Of... Prior to the decision in Canada (Attorney General) v. Bedford, prostitution and the commercialization of sexual services was not illegal; however there were three legislative barriers surrounding prostitution related acts that implicated sex workers of criminal offences, thus the decision to work safe or risk arrest made their line of work difficult (Durisin, Love , van der Meulen, 2013). Due to public demand and the need to clean street prostitutes, the criminalization of prostitute related activities repressed the working conditions of sex workers (Crago Clamen, 2013). Prostitutes a public nuisance had to choose whether to work safely or risks arrests (Crago Clamen, 2013). This paper will focus on the violence against sex workers due to the regulation of sex workers through the Criminal Code of Canada, which increased their vulnerability to violence from their clients and the police harassment (Lowman, 2013). The criminalization of commercial sexual acts has led to increased violence and due to the public s perception of sex work as an immoral act, the safety of sex workers was not adequately monitored by law enforcement agencies. There is a need for the decriminalization of all forms of commercial sex which will create a safer and secure environment under labour regulations (rather than criminal regulations), where sex workers can engage in their profession without the threats or acts of violence. In the following, this classification in point. a)Smart Metering: Smart metering is the mainly important mechanism used in the Smart Grid for obtaining information from end users devices and appliances, while also controlling the performance of the devices. Automatic metering infrastructure (AMI) systems, which are themselves built upon automatic meter reading (AMR) systems, are broadly regarded as a sound strategy to realize Smart Grid. AMR is the technology of routinely collecting analytical, expenditure, and status data from energy metering devices and transferring that data to a central database for billing, troubleshooting, and analyzing. AMI differs from traditional AMR in that it enables two way communications with the meter. So almost all of this information is available in real time and on demand, allowing for better system operations and customer power demand organization. b) Smart meters, which carry two way communications amid the meter and the central system, are like in many aspects to AMI meters, or occasionally are regarded as part of the AMI. Identity, Authenticity and Survival Essay Formative Writing I : Identity, Authenticity and Survival by Kandru Manibhushan Rao Kwame Anthony Appiah s essay on Identity, Authenticity and Survival is based on Charles Taylor s earlier work on recognition and identity. Though Taylor s references to identity are mostly to collective identity, Appiah s aim is to draw a comparison or even find a connection between individual identity and collective identity. However, Appiah points out that the search for authenticity is somewhat a paradoxical one. The search for authenticity, as said, goes as much against the demands for a prescribed social life as it does for the recognition of one s real self. There are two layer for recognition of originality /authenticity: * How a person identifies or recognizes himself among other people. * How a culture bearing group (minority) recognizes itself among a larger group. This leg of Appiah s essay focuses extensively on Trilling s contradictory statements on authenticity. Claiming one s authentic ethnicity, for example, for the need of expressing one s originality in turn proves one s need for social acknowledgement for such originality. Even counterconventionalism requires needs recognition from conventionalist. The problem that arises here is, in order to be original, an individual has to understand convention and being everything that it is not, thus resulting in the individual being not authentic, ... In his book, Seligman explains that there are two kinds of happiness, pleasureand gratification. He says, [t]he pleasures are delights that have clear sensory and strong emotional components, what philosophers call raw feels : ecstasy, thrills, orgasm, delight, mirth, exuberance, and comfort. Although it is clear that people need gratification more than pleasures, he points out that [t]o start the process of eschewing easy pleasures and engaging in more gratifications is hard (119). This difficulty of attaining gratification might make people to choose pleasure rather than gratification. Persuasive Effect Of Advertising In Advertising Advertisements play a highly important role in the United States consumerist society, as Americans are exposed to ads in nearly every form of media. Each of these ads target a different audience and have varying levels of persuasive effect. Take for example an Audi commercial that was released in 2017, where clowns drove around recklessly and created a dangerous environment for other drivers. In this commercial, different safety features of the Audi cars caused the vehicles to avoid crashes in spite of the dangerous driving around them. The content of this advertisement helps to determine the target audience: wealthy American drivers. The use of clowns within the commercial provided evidence that the ad primarily targeted American consumers, as clowns were depicted as both a symbol of humor and fearor danger. This media portrayal of clowns as a scary and dangerous symbol, along with the common childhood fear of clowns, is mostly unique to American culture. As a result, those from different countries or different cultural backgrounds would have less understanding of this advertisement. The high price for purchasing a new Audi vehicle also gave evidence that the advertisement was targeting wealthy consumers. The purpose and definition of Magical Realism are not easily reached as so many writers disagree upon so many aspects. For instance, Roh believes Magical Realism takes an aspect of society, usually overlooked, and adds a special essence that makes one truly appreciate the beauty of life (17). Roh states, The point is not to discover the spirit beginning with objects, but...to discover objects beginning with the spirit (24). As Leal points out, Flores gives no definition or purpose specifically in his text. Flores does, however, discuss many examples of Magical Realism and recites lines from the works to exemplify how different each work is. Leal states in his work: In magical realism key events have no logical or psychological explanation. The magical realist does not try to copy the surrounding reality (as the realists did) or to wound it (as the surrealists did) but to seize the mystery that breathes behind things. (123) This excerpt from Leal is in keeping with the theory of Roh. They agree that one should capture an idea or a feeling beginning with the spirit of that same subject. The ... Even though her sample size was not representative of the whole population it was enough to determine that the main reason why black students are starting to do homeschool is because of racism. Many black parents describe the white teachers through negative commentary due to their children being discriminated. There are many white children who have grown up around stereotypes, just like Korinna in the book Behind The Bedroom Wall. They have been taught to stay away or bully black children. In the Washington Posts article, Racism in schools is pushing more black families to homeschool their children the text states, Furthermore, the attitudes and actions of white teachers (who make up 85 percent of all public school teachers) were questioned by many of the African American parents with whom I spoke. They consistently portrayed white teachers as overly critical, unresponsive, unqualified, insensitive, offensive, mean, hypocritical, and using double standards. Parents of black students are noticing changes in their children s behaviors. Research shows that many black students are coming home, crying, due to discrimination. This is the reason that black students are starting to be homeschooled. • 43. The American and Finnish Education Systems Education is one of the cornerstones and pillars to the establishment and preservation of democracy. In history, countless scores of philosophers and political thinkers believed that only an educated citizenry can take on the quintessential task of upholding democracy. Thomas Jefferson, the primary writer of the Declaration of Independence, stated that an informed citizenry is the only true repository of the public will. A renowned defender of public education, Jefferson proposed plans for an education system that included grammar schools in his presidency. As a result of these relentless policies for education, the United States expanded on the concept of public instruction through the establishment and upkeep of a practical education... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The difference of two years for the commencement of compulsory education contributes to the effectiveness of the Finnish education system, as opposed to the American system. Starting compulsory school at the age of seven, students have more time to mature and recognize school as a positive environment. Students are determined and poised to learn more at school if they enjoy the environment, as opposed to the United States system, where children typically start school around five, offering a more negative outlook on school. The opportunity cost of having American students start earlier in their education careers is the lack of determination and positive view in the starting years of instruction, which makes the system less effective. The second difference between the organization of the education systems is the conclusion of the compulsory education. After completing their basic education of nine years in Finland, pupils go on to the second level of schooling, known as general secondary education, for three years. After completing the secondary education level, students must partake in a matriculation examination in order to pass general secondary education. The matriculation examination is the only standardized test in the nation that students are required to take. Passing the exam permits ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the resources that is essentially unlimited is a resource called Tidal Energy. Tidal Energy has been estimated that it can create 2110 terrawatt hours in the United States (7) alone. Basically this technology is floating spheres at the bottom of the ocean floor that move back and forth with waves, capturing the kinetic energy as it moves and generates electricity. This technology operates all the time and doesn t totally depend on the time of day to really work. Others are sunk turbines which catch the energy as water flows through them. This technology is probably the fastest growing technology because of the fact that it has no current environmental impacts. These technologies don t trap silt and are easily avoidable by the local wildlife and merchant ships. Also the material needed to build these tidal farms is much less than it would be to build a wind farm because water us much more dense making it easier for a smaller turbine to catch and change the kinetic energy into power that we can use. (1,2,3,4) There is also a type of technology called a tidal lagoon that companies and governments are looking at utilizing to help produce energy. They function very similar to barrages, except they don t need an inlet to work. These can be made along the coastlines of islands and countries. They look a lot like little harbors stretching across the coastline. These also don t even need to be made using artificial building materials, which cuts back on the costs of building them. The process is the same as barrages, the sea rushes in and is held back at high tide. Then at low tide the water is allowed to rush over turbines turning them and generating ... People who are different can be labeled something which may make them feel more insignificant about themselves, and if these labels are repeated the person may even come to believe the label. The perception of the community was that of young men who did well in school and sports, even though they had their fun, and were the models of every day students.
