Leonardo The Artist, By Maria Vittoria Brugnoli And The...
I have currently finished reading the book Leonardo The Artist. The book is made up by three
of Da Vinci s scholars. One part of the book entitled The Painter is by Anna Maria Brizio, the
other part is The Sculptor which is interpreted by Maria Vittoria Brugnoli and the last section is
The Teacher by AndrГ© Chastel. The book is comprised of Da Vinci s notebooks with sketches
and comments on his work in progress; all of which was rediscovered in 1965. The general
purpose for this book is to show Da Vinci s ideology surrounding art and intellectual findings that
contributed to his talent. Leonardo Da Vinciwas more than just a painter. He was also considered a
sculptor and a teacher. He found interest in mathematic, science and nature. This book reveals
how boundless Da Vinci s curiosity was. Da Vinci trained as a painter in the studio of Andrea
Verrocchio. He devoted long hours to the study of nature even on holy days. Da Vinci explored
every branch of science known at his time and proved to many that he was far ahead of his time.
This is exemplified in his precise observations and the value he placed on empirical truth. Da Vinci
states, No human investigation can be called true science without going through mathematical
tests... (page 16) This basically refers to the scientific method.
In sketch after sketch, his notebooks cite his preoccupation with architecture both as an artistic
expression and as a technical problem. In his painting of the town plan of

Police Procedural Sub-Genre In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
It is impossible to follow every guideline for a police procedural novel when writing on a true
event. Features considered important to the police procedural sub genre may not be present within
the real life crime, and adding details for the procedural sub genre VIOLATES/TARNISHES the
credibility of the true crime aspects of the novel. Despite the difficulties of blending a true crime
and a crime fiction sub genre, with some compromise on the guidelines of both genres, Capote
completed In Cold Blood, a well balanced novel that describes a true crime event from a police
procedural standpoint.
On November 15, 1959, Perry Smith and Dick Hancock committed the brutal quadruple murder of
the Clutter family. The bodies of Herbert Clutter, his wife Bonnie, and their children Nancy and
Kenyon, were discovered scattered throughout their Kansas ranch home the following morning, the
same day that a three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He began his investigations by packing up and travelling to Garden City, Kansas with his friend
and fellow author, Harper Lee, who became a valuable asset by becoming friendly with the local
people which, by extension, made Capote more accepted, as well. Though the townspeople were
initially suspicious of him, after a month they began to open up and consent to interviews, with
the number of people willing to be interviewed growing after Hancock and Smith were arrested.
Capote also made sure to do other forms of research on other murderers, murder in general, and
the mentality of criminals to give himself a more informed perspective of Hancock and Smith s
actions. There can be no claiming that Capote did not put full effort into gathering relevant
information for In Cold Blood. He was so devoted to his research that, when the friendly driver
who picked up the hitchhiking Hancock and Smith denied all knowledge of doing so, he travelled
to Omaha to confront the man face to

Rivers Of Zadaa Analysis
e Compromise of 1850 ostensibly was a prudent solution to the issue of slavery in borderline states.
However, it ultimately led to cataclysmic bloodshed and contributed to the United States escalation
into civil war. Compromise is not necessarily the best way to resolve a conflict because
compromise can lead to prolonged feelings of acrimony and antipathy among opposing groups and
eventually incur even greater conflict. For example, in D.J. MacHale s Rivers of Zadaa, the
belligerent Batu and Rokador tribes experience resentment towards one another because of a
tenuous treaty between the two. Likewise, in the T.V. series Gundam, conflicts between naturally
born humans and genetically enhanced humans escalate into war despite the valiant efforts

Essay on Black Arts Movement
BAM! The Black Arts Movement
The amazing era of the Black Arts Movement developed the concept of an influential and artistic
blackness that created controversial but significant organizations such as the Black Panther Party.
The Black Arts Movement called for an explicit connection between art and politics (Smith). This
movement created the most prevalent era in black art history by taking stereotypes and racism and
turning it into artistic value.
This connection between black art and politics was first made clear in a great essay written by
Larry Neal in the summer of 1968. This essay illustrated the Black Arts Movement s manifesto or
plan. Neal wrote: The Black Arts Movement is radically opposed to any concept of the artist...

The poem went on to read,
Poems are bullshit unless they are teeth or trees or lemons piled on a step. Or black ladies dying
of men leaving nickel hearts beating them down. Fuck poems and they are useful, wd they shoot

Souls splintering fire. We want poems like fists beating niggers out of Jocks or dagger poems in

All agreed the words Baraka used were harsh, but that is the essence of writing in this era. Any
words, illustrations, and depictions can be used to describe the feelings of Black Power. His
words, Fuck poems that are useful summed up that the black community was not looking for false
hopes but for reality. This poem had a very powerful effect on the black community who related to
the desire of Black Art (Bader). His poems contained an unconventional syntaxes, different poetic
rhythms, and dark urban dialect creating interesting poems that illustrated the movement he helped
create. Baraka was the first to illustrate this movement in such a vulgar but amazing way. He
described the type of writing that Black people

The Postmodern Organisation
The postmodern organisation. Introduction The millennial generation is the technologically
savvy people born between 1982 and 2002. This group of people are anticipated to take over
from the infamous Baby Boomers. The millennial generation This generation is best described as
the first to try out new technologies that are on the market. They will usually own more than one
smart phone, an example would be an Iphone, Blackberry or even a Samsung. They don t just
stop at smart phones it also overlaps onto gaming consoles like the Play Station, Nintendo and
Xbox. There is the use of Ipads and life pads in the lives of the Millennial generation, this is
because they there is constant movement and an internet connection is vital. In these devices they
can move around on different interfaces, e.g. being on your smart phone and checking your emails
while you chat on BBM and Facebook multi tasking on all their various social networks. According
to Pew Social Trends 2010 Millennials technological exceptionalism is chronicled throughout the
survey. It s not just their gadgets it s the way they ve fused their social lives into them. Expectations
of the millennial generation The attitudes and behaviours of the millennial generation is that they
are much more tolerant and accepting than the generations before them on a broad spectrum of
issues such as HIV/AIDS, being more open about ones sexuality and being different. Generation Y
is more adaptable to change as well so

Now the following information is well documented and is presented for your review and
edification. Do not try to fight the IRS in federal court, you will not win. The deception runs
rampant throughout the executive, legislative and judicial branches. Now let us begin with the
admission of the US attorney general that the IRS is not an agency of the Federal Government.

Law: There is a host of constitutional and statutory authority establishing that the Internal
Revenue Service is an agency of the United States. The U.S. Supreme Court stated in Donaldson
v. United States, 400 U.S. 517, 534 (1971), [w]e bear in mind that the Internal Revenue Service
is organized to carry out the broad responsibilities of the Secretary of the Treasury (Notice they
do not define Secretary) under В§ 7801(a) of the 1954 Code for the administration and
enforcement of the internal revenue laws. Pursuant to section 7801, the Secretary of Treasury
(again Notice they do not define secretary) has full authority to administer and enforce the internal
revenue laws and has the power to create an agency to enforce such laws. Based upon this, the
Internal Revenue Service was created. Thus, the Internal Revenue Service is a body established by
positive law because it was created through a congressionally mandated power. Moreover, section
7803(a) explicitly provides that there shall be a Commissioner of Internal Revenue who shall
administer and supervise the execution and application of the internal

Symptoms And Treatment Of My Childhood
Most people would not find weight loss, heat intolerance, and an elevated heart rate in a twelve
year old particularly worrying. Most people, assuming they even noticed these things, might write
them off as growing pains. My mother, however, was not most people. She was a registered nurse,
eighteen years in, and she had an inkling of what the symptoms might indicate. I remember feeling
concerned that my mother had deemed it necessary to schedule an appointment at Vanderbilt
Children s Hospital. Sitting in the examination room, I felt my nerves heighten as my mother
described the seemingly inoffensive symptoms to the physician, who regarded her intently. The
subsequent blood testconfirmed what my mother had suspected: elevated T3/T4 and suppressed
TSH levels, indicating hyperthyroidism.
The unknown term frightened me instantly. Sensing my alarm, my endocrinologist explained what
hyperthyroidism meant. My thyroid was producing excessive amounts of hormones. She assured
me that the condition was manageable, and with daily medication and occasional blood tests, I
would be fine. The sincerity in her eyes and the warmth of her voice were all I needed to trust her
words. Through the remainder of my childhood, I became very familiar with the Children s
Hospital. Spending so much time in the waiting room before appointments yielded the opportunity
to observe many other children, both older and younger, many with cases more debilitating than
mine. A part of me was saddened that

The Lease And Marketing Plan
uestion1
a)Issue1: who are promoters in Butterfly s case?
The lease and marketing plan failed to expand office space and attract new clients, Butterfly had
cash flow problems and sold to Xco Ltd, Consequently, Butterfly can sue promoters for the
recession of the contracts or damages. In this case, there is five person involved John, Paula,
George, Robyn and Brian. Generally, Emma Silver Mining s case defines a person who is
involved in the creation of a new company is a promoter. John, Paula, George and Robyn
undertook mining project, shared the rental cost and sometimes referred clients, i.e.: they are
promoters as they took active parts in the formation of a company and generated the necessary
share capital to carry on business. For Brian, an accountant providing tax service, does not act
purely in his professional captivity and he agreed to purchase some non voting shares of Butterfly.
This makes him take an inactive position in Butterfly but can receive dividends. The similar facts
in Mandalay s case, RSC leaves the project to Mandalay and also gets profit from the operation,
therefore Brian is a promoter, too. In summary, John, Paula, George, Robyn and Brian, as Butterfly
s promoters, automatically establish a fiduciary relationship with Butterfly.
Issue 2: do promoters owe fiduciary duties to Butterfly? If breached fiduciary duties, who will be
liable for entering into the lease and marketing contracts?
In this case, Robyn and George signed agreements with third

Oral History Of The September 11, 2001 Attacks Essay
Oral History of the September 11, 2001 Attacks The day September 11, 2001 stands out in the
minds of all Americans, not only because it changed the course of history, but it affected the daily
lives of America s people. Whether they encountered the events first hand in New York City, or
they simply watched the iconic World Trade Centerfall on television as the events unfolded, the
assaults of 9/11 have left a permanent stain on the lives of America s citizens. Individuals such as
my father, Kurt M. Thomas, have vivid recollections of exactly where they were on the day of the
attack. However, the retention of this event is not the only result of these events, for Dad s
experience as an American citizen who lived through the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks is one
that reflects the pervasive apprehension that many Americans have towards the future of the United
States and its relations with counties of the Middle East as a result of the fear experienced that day.
His recollection expresses the nativist concern and fear for oneself and one s nation that many
Americans articulated throughout the course of history.
On the day of the attack, Dad said he experienced a fear that he had never quite experienced until
that point in his life. He retorted, Growing up, bomb threats were taken as joke. No one took them
seriously until after the attacks on September 11. The first memory that Dad had when I asked him
to tell me about the events of 9/11 was his location. In Carroll

Long Term Care Sociology
In long term care facilities, or nursing homes as they are often referred to are facilities in which
residents live, whom are usually of the older population and are cared for by nurses and nursing
assistants. The ratio of residents to nursing assistants can vary by state and shift, for example in
Ohio there may not be more than fifteen residents per nursing assistant in a shift in order for
residents to receive the optimum amount of care possible. Nursing homes can not only include
parts in which they provide skilled care by Nurses and Nursing Assistants, but also assisted living
for those who just need help from time to time or assistance managing their medication. Residents
still have the right to choice when in a nursing homeand they are... Show more content on

Activities of Daily Living can include just that, such as cooking/eating, bathing, personal care,
toileting and help with medications. This around the clock care can be quite expensive for
anyone, especially those who have already retired and were living on a fixed income, including
retirement and social security. In the facility that I observed to live on the skilled care side and
receive care twenty four hours a day seven days a week in a semi private room (double
occupancy room), the cost was nearly $11,000 a month for each resident. The average cost
across the country is $248 per day for a private room and $222 daily for a semi private room
(Costs Of Care), which for a private room can add up to over $90,000 a year. While that number
is quite high assisted living can be much cheaper, at an average of $3,300 a month for the base
fee , however each additional service that they require help from staff to complete is an additional
fee. In the facility observed there was a fee for every action that staff completed or assisted with,
including assistance with medication, trash, cleaning, and applying treatments such as a breathing
machine. Though the cost may seem high many who do not have children or other family
members to help provide care for themselves or have a condition that cannot be managed at home
(due to physical or financial restraints) have no choice but to enter a long term care facility to
receive help completing tasks needed for simple

What Does Social Justice Mean To You Essay
When I was six years old I accepted Christ. I grew up in a Christian home and was given a
Christian education. My faith has been a big part of my life. It has gotten me through the good, the
bad and the ugly. There have been dry seasons in my faith, but even in those times God has
remained faithful. Each day Godis teaching me something new about who He is. He is continually
growing me to be more like Him. It is my faith that pushes me to fight for justice. One of my
favorite passages in the Bibleis Psalm 82:2 4, How long will you judge unjustly and show
partiality to the wicked? Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the
afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the
wicked. The Gospel is the life, death and resurrection of Christ. Social justice is in no way the...

He is the one who ultimately brings justice and hope. I am only a helper who is called to
obedience. My life is not my own, but it is God s to do with as He pleases. The work I would do
at IJM would not be of my own doing, but of Christ in me. He is the ultimate healer and world
changer. Since working in this field takes a lot of faith and trust in God, spiritual disciplines are
very important. Over the years, this is something that God has been growing me in. He has
shown me the importance of truly studying His word and writing it on my heart. When I study
His Word, I tend to do it book by book. I will read a certain book multiple times before moving on
to the next book. Each time, Jesus seems to point out something new. Prayer is also another area
where I have grown. I tend to pray all throughout the day. I like being in constant communication
with God. I have learned that prayer is important when combatting human trafficking. There are
situations in which prayer seems to be the only option. I believe everything should be done with

The Presence-Absence Of Opium In Sumerian Cuneiform
The presence absence of opium in the ancient Near East and Mesopotamia is a topic debated for
almost a century. In 1928 Charles Terry and Nildred Pellens, following an interpretation of R.
Doughert started the debate trying to identify opium in Sumerian Cuneiform word hul gil, in which
hul would mean opium and gil, joy . In 1949 Reginald Campbell Thompson, in an extensive paper
on Assyrian botany, recognized opium in another Sumerian term, Гє nam ti (or Гє nam til la),
literally the plant of life , corresponding to the Akkadian irrГ». This term, according to Thompson,
would mean coursing, in the sense of a prophecy expressed under the narcotic effect, by binding to

Comparing Ovid s The Myth Of Daedalus And Icarus
The myth of Daedalus and Icarus has been approached by many different artists with many
differing depictions of the event. Some artists such as Ovid, chose to focus on Daedalus and Icarus
and leave everyone else out. Other artists, for instance, Pieter Bruegel the Elder and W. H. Auden,
have much more panoramic views of the situation and include others in their works. Different
approaches can leave the readers with different understandings of this ancient myth.
In Ovid s The Myth of Daedalus and Icarus, the author uses a third person point of view to closely
follow Daedalus and Icarus. From this, readers are more tightly attached to the characters and
know more about them. Readers of this story witness the inventing and engineering of the wings
by Daedalus and know the conflicting desires of Daedalus to escape from prison and to protect
his son. One thing that is emphasized in this story is the overwhelming sorrow of Daedalus, both
before due to fear of Icarus falling, and after due to the loss of his son. Ovid includes ... Show more

H. Auden, refers to the painting mentioned previously. Auden does not focus primarily on the fall
of Icarus, much like the painting, but chooses to concentrate more on artists and their depictions
of suffering. Auden says, the ploughman may Have heard the splash, the forsaken cry, But for
him it was not an important failure. The author is essentially verbalizing the painting Landscape
with the Fall of Icarus. Much like Icarus isn t a huge part of the painting, he is also given very
little mention in this poem. The underlying theme of this poem is that suffering is surrounded by
the busyness of everyday life. Even this poem is a perfect example of the overshadowing of
suffering by other things, itself overshadowing the tragic demise of Icarus with other mundane
events. This also places Icarus story in the hands of an outsider, leading readers to become less
attached to Icarus and

Orthopedic And Spine Institute ( Osi )
Orthopedic Spine Institute (OSI) would like to provide residents with a new and convenient
option for receiving urgent orthopedic care services. Staffed by a board certified physician and a
fellowship trained physician assistant (PA) as well as technicians to handle imaging, casts, and
splints. The average wait for a sports medicineorthopedic surgeon is three to four weeks. When
possible the patients will be placed on the schedule of an orthopedic surgeon that is available the
day of their injury. However, if the schedule is full the patient receives care from the PA or board
certified Family Medicine physicianwith a subspecialty in sports medicine. This will give the
newer orthopedic surgeons an opportunity to see new patients, when this is not possible the
patients will be still be able to receive the care they need by the PA without having to wait for an
appointment. With a new orthopedic group from a town sixty miles away opens an office across the

Differences Between Judaism And Judaism
Judaism has a concrete connection to the development of Christianity which has influenced the
teachings of the religion that would not be made possible without its presence. There are
similarities between the Christian faiths to Judaism from how the religions are practiced to the
hymns that are shared between the two. A primary difference is the historical background to the
discovery of the religions. Another difference would be the sacred text that are used in prayer
considering Judaismuses the Hebrew bibleand Christians use the New Testament. The Hebrew
bible is referred to as the Old Testament yet that might not be the case according to Jews. A
similarity from the two religions is the fact that they are both monotheism which is the belief that
there is only one God. Yet the two differ on the beliefs on the one that is called God or the divine.
Another fascinating similarity that the two share are the Ten Commandments. The commandments
were discovered by Moses on two tablets which has been practice by Jews primarily. The adaptation
of the commandments were carried over into the New Testament. Considering most of the Hebrew
Bible shares a cross connection into the New testament it is clear that it would not have been
created without the influence of Judaism.
Judaism is a temple based religion that is practice in a synagogue that originated in Israel. Moses
was the first author to the scrolls called the Torah. The verbal teachings of Judaism was how Moses

The Effects Of Methyl Isocyanate On The World s Worst...
It was the night of December 2, 1984. It was the night that would change the lives of nearly
500,000 citizens in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India, forever. It was the night that at least 30 tons
of the highly toxic gas, methyl isocyanate, was released from the Union Carbide factory in
Bhopal, India. It has been recorded as the world s worst industrial disaster. But how did such a
disaster take place? The Union Carbide plant dated back to 1969 where it was a formulations

There were dangers with using such insecticides however. Organophosphate poisoning, the result
from exposure to insecticides, was a potential threat in addition to the numerous risks associated
with methyl isocyanate. The United States Environmental Protection Agency mentions that there
are many chronic effects as well as short term effects from acute exposure from MIC such as
reproductive and developmental effects, decreased fertility, blindness, difficulty breathing,
respiratory tract infections, and fevers. MIC was not only being produced to incorporate into
herbicides and insecticides, but also so carbamate pesticides could be used for medical purposes.
Human pharmacotherapy, therapy using pharmaceutical drugs, uses the chemicals regularly, for
example, HIV treatments contained carbamate groups. One of the most toxic carbamate pesticides
is carbofuran. It is very popular for use in controlling insects in field crops such as potatoes, corn,
and soybeans. It is also known as a systemic insecticide, a plant absorbs it through the roots and then
distributes the insecticide through the organs. It is highly toxic to vertebrates with an oral LD50 of
8 14 mg according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC also mentioned that
carbofuran causes alterations in hormone concentration, an endocrine disruptor, and has one of the

Medicare Reform Summary
Article Review #3: Geography and the Debate over Medicare Reform The Health Affairs
published an article in about a proposed Medicare reform regarding the high levels of use of
Medicare although there was little impact on individuals. Though this article dates back to 2002,
the issue still remains true to this day. In this article, the authors explain that the high level of
Medicare spending was mostly due to the increase number of physician visits, specialist
consultations, and hospitalstays, especially among those that had chronic illnesses. Although the
spending is higher among such Medicare patients, this did not mean better effective care or health
care outcomes. On the contrary, according to the article, more than 20% of the total... Show more

Overall, there are still inequalities on the spending of the same condition between different
regions. For example, mammograms, which were used to measure effective care, were done by
21 to 77% of individuals. The authors suggested to improve the quality of care through a series of
goals that the Medicare program should complete. Through these guidelines and goals, the
Medicare program would be restructured to make high quality health care to all Medicare enrollees
and to reduce the costs of Medicare.
As a whole, the authors of the articles shed light to the inequality of medical care among Medicare
recipients depending on the region. Not only inequality, but even with those individuals that
received large care, there was no notable difference of their overall health with those that spent least.
In other words, the amount spent on Medicare patients has no correlation with better health or
higher quality of life. On the contrary, Medicare patients that received the most benefits were
deemed to have life threatening conditions. Although the uncovered such information, they
suggested new approaches to improve the Medicare program, focusing on a population based
approach and accountability for all hospitals and

Profitable industries that yield high returns will attract new company s. This results in many new

John Cages Research Paper
The music of John Cage is highly criticized, yet highly revered within the same societal realm.
The question that has yet to be answered, even after fifty plus years, is John Cages music really
music or is it just noise? The dictionary definition of music is the following: vocal or instrumental
sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of
emotion. My personal version of the definition of musicis a variant of the definition listed above. I
believe that music is the combination of vocal, instrumental sounds, or silence (or all the above)
produced in a way to express a feeling or emotion. Based on my own personal definition of music, I
do consider John Cages pieces to be music.
A question ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
it is my opinion that this John Cage piece is considered music. John Cage talks about how all you
need for noise to be music is for there to be sound created in some form and fashion and for the
sound to create rhythmic patterns. I agree with him in that sense. Music is simply different sounds
combined in different rhythms. However, simply because my definition of music similarly
matches with John Cage s definition doesn t mean that the listener must modify their definition,
because in any definition of music that a person creates they cannot argue the fact that music is
varying sounds combined with rhythm. But John Cage music isn t simply about the music itself,
but he argues that it s also about the performance. Each time a piece is performed the audience
will be different, the performer may be feeling different, and therefore, the piece will be different.
For Water Walk specifically, it doesn t include any visual effects nor would they be necessary for
the performance. There is a visual stimulant when watching him start a new contraption to create
each sound, however it is not necessary for those visuals to be seen by the audience to listen to the

Oppression In Social Work
Oppression, as defined in class (Akuoko Barfi, 2015) is when superior groups put down and
mistreat minority groups. People of minority groups have been burdened and worried by the
dominant population for years. This paper will focus on different aspects of social work
discussed in chapter four by Baskin Structural Social Work as Seen from an Aboriginal Perspective

As explained by Yee (2005), racism is also seen as white institutionalized privilege occurring as a
response to history, and is intended to put down those who are not of a majority group.
Whiteness, as Yee (2005) refers to, is the social process that maintains the system of dominance
making those who are dominant hold more power and construct the values in a society (p. 89).
This dominant group is what limits social workers from changing society and institutional
perspectives. Anti racism attempts to examine the roots of the oppressor s negative beliefs and
attitude towards minorities in order to help the oppressed. It also, aims to lessen the gap between
the majority and minority and focuses on the problem being broader than just ignorance and
prejudgment. Yee highlights that an individual s identity significantly affects where one will be
socially located, and how racism makes people believe that one can be defined from the color of
their skin or their culture. Which is why it highlights the need for the oppressor to be educated on
cultures of racial minorities in order to help end racism and stereotypes (Yee, 2005). In addition, it
emphasizes to gain knowledge on people s history to better understand the degree to which people
of colour have been discriminated.

An Analysis Of William Apess An Indian s Looking Glass For...
William Apess persuades that Natives and Whites are on the same level in the eyes of God. In
An Indian s Looking Glass for the White Man, William Apess condemns White Men with
relentless assaults and references in the form of exegesis and anaphora. Apess directly addresses
a white audience (Apess, 1). He considers his audience and recognizes their pathos, and uses
exegesis to appeal to their spiritual beliefs. Thou shalt love the Lord, thy God with all thy heart,
with all thy soul and Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself are two Testaments used to show the
hypocrisy of white Christians (Apess 3). Apess challenges racism, and the belief that whites are
superior, by showing that believers in Christianityare mere neighbors to each other.

Music in the Sixties
My topic is Music in the Sixties. In my essay I would like to determine that events that occurred
during the 1960 s had a significant effect on some of the music that was produced. I believe that
certain music and musical events derived from peoples feelings and views on things that occurred
during the 60 s. Some of these events include the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights Movement

and society as a whole. There were many different stereotypes and prejudices. There was war going

Examples Of Hedonic Pricing Models
Hedonic pricing models are tools used for estimating the value of a good or commodity based on
the premise that price is determined by the both the characteristics of the good being sold and any
external factors effecting it. Since the hedonic model calculates the value of a commodity by
summing the estimated values of its individual characteristics, it is best suited for use with
commodities that are extremely heterogeneous. One example of an extremely heterogeneous
commodity that is well suited to estimation using hedonic pricing models is the real estatemarket.
When we read about the sale of property in the US Real Estate market, for example that a home
in your neighborhood sold for $500,000, we gain limited information about the value of other
properties in the same area. This information is of limited use because every home is
heterogeneous; the homes are of different age, have different numbers of bedroom or bathrooms,

The Problem Of Homelessness And Homelessness

Talk about the American dream. What some people see as creating a better life through hard work

this through his characters and uses their actions to show their selfish desire that eventually leads to

He uses Jay Gatsbyas a modern twist on the classic tragic hero to show us how Gatsby s American
dream is flawed.
Jay Gatsby, being who the story is named after is a very good example of the American dream. He

Increasing Trend Of Non Albicans Cutaneous Candidiasis
Increasing trend in Non albicans Cutaneous Candidiasis: Implications in treatment strategies
Introduction:
Cutaneous candidiasis is a secondary infection of the skin (body folds) and nails in predisposed
patients.1 The disease involvement may be localised or generalised to the skin or nails.2
The clinical manifestations of Candidiasis are of three types: mucocutaneous, cutaneous, and
systemic.3 The spectrum of Cutaneous candidiasis (CC): includes intertrigo, diaper candidiasis,
paronychia, and onychomycosis.4 Infections thrush, intertrigo, enterogastritis and others have long
been known to be due to abnormal proliferation of Candida cells.5
Candida species other than C.albicans have become a significant cause of infection in humans.6
Several of these species are less susceptible to commonly used azole antifungal drugs.6
Hence, the identification of the Candida isolates upto species level along with their antifungal
susceptibility patterns can greatly influence the treatment options for the clinicians and may have
an impact on the patient care.7 Hence this study was done.
Aims and objectives:
1.To isolate Candida species from suspected cases of Cutaneous Candidiasis.
2.To speciate the isolated Candida.
3.To find the antifungal susceptibility for voriconazole and fluconazole among the isolates.

Social Technical Perspective: A solution for Managing Information Overload
In my opinion, organizations are likely to find better solutions thru informational overload using
technical and social systems. Information overload has an ability to cause negative effects on an

components that solve problems within that system. Knowledge management uses the combination

Without knowledge in an organization nothing is possible and it is necessary to identify which

organization knowledge is in repositories, documents, routines, practices, and processes. Social
interaction among members plays a huge role in searching for knowledge. Knowledge management

Imai, 2013). PON and BChE expression in all species are ubiquitous, with especially high
expression in primates (Bahar et al., 2012).
In humans, it is estimated that, for aspirin hydrolysis in plasma, BChE is approximately 30%
responsible for activity, and has low and high affinity binding sites for calcium and/or magnesium
(Bahar and Imai, 2013). PON is approximately 50% accountable, requiring calcium for substrate
hydrolysis, and albumin is 16%, acting as a plasma carrier protein by binding, and shows esterase
like activity. In rabbits, CES, due to its extensive hydrolytic ability (Bahar et al., 2012), makes it
the primary contributor to aspirin hydrolysis in rabbit plasma (Bahar and Imai, 2013).
Figure 1 consequently proves the presence of hydrolases most likely CES in the tested rabbit serum
solution. It was an effective medium in which aspirin hydrolysis could

Project Evaluation And Selection Of Interconnected Projects
As traffic increases and links become congested, people may suffer delays and long travel time
for their daily trips. Planners may decide to improve this situation for people in the area. One of
the options for improving the conditions of traveling in the congested area is link expansion. Link
expansion projects in transportation networks are almost always interdependent. When capacity of
one link in a network changes it affects the flow of other links, and may shift bottle necks
elsewhere throughout the network. In other words with respect to this expansion in one link, flow
in other links may increase or decrease due to interdependency among them. So finding a sequence

(Wang and Schonfeld. 2005) Along the same lines, simulation based genetic search can be time
consuming but with the advent of new technology and higher speed Processors, this problem is
becoming less significant. Existing Studies mainly focuses on selecting and scheduling of
projects with the assumption of being independent. There are two approaches which are
commonly used for solving project selection and sequencing. The first approach is integer
programming (Weingartner 1966; Cochran et al. 1971; Clark et al. 1984; Johnson et al. 1985) and
the second one is dynamic programming (Weingartner 1966; Nemhauser and Ullman 1969; Morin
and Esogbue 1971; Erlenkotter 1973; Morin 1974). [2] The first defect of these approaches is the
difficulty of capturing the interdependencies among projects, and the second one is the inefficiency
or even the infeasibility of the results in the case of responding to larger problems. Martinelli
(1993) proposed a heuristic method for selecting and scheduling interdependent waterway
investment projects. The results of this method are based on an evaluation to compare various
combinations of project implementation over a time period. This method begins by establishing an
initial sequence based on an independent evaluation. Then the initial solution is adjusted by using a
heuristic which performs a swap (or swaps) in the sequence. This is done by plotting system cost

Social Media And Web 2.0 Tools
Using Social Media and Web 2.0 tools to enhance the experience with Self Regulated Learning
Self regulated learning is a total work of the human brain; it entails attention, concentration, self

Learning 2.0 is technology enhanced learning that goes beyond access to traditional educational

accomplished through the demand pull approach which presents students with a vivid, possibly
virtual, learning construct. This self regulated learning process is based on the student s desire to
learn about a particular topic or be a part of a certain community, and is usually informal. The
demand pull mode is resource oriented and current internet sources. Web 2.0 is rapidly growing

Justice In Oresteia
In all areas where humans might concern themselves with examining the facts , views and
perspectives are guaranteed to change. Not only do the perspectives of different thinkers change
with time, the manners in which these thinkers think change as well. When Aeschylus wrote The
Oresteia, he had in mindhis perspective on the story as it was written. The physiological struggles
that the characters go through are all influenced by his take on the world and of human beings
themselves. Over time, however, new methods of approaching ideas are developed. In the years
after Aeschylus there were many other philosophers who developed their own interpretations of the
world and sought to contest the older, original ideas. Socrates was one of those... Show more

Some of his largest contemplative work was the assessment of ones virtues. He believed that by
default people act based on the knowledge that they have. In following knowledge, emotions will
surface and inevitably line up with the beliefs that the person has. Thus this leads to the question of
free will. Are we truly having our genuinely own feelings? Or were we predestined to act this
way and thus feel? Socrates argues that we are not predestined, that we can have self control
over our emotions and passions and thus lead us to have self control over our actions. With this
in mind Socrates also talks about having this self control, in that attaining it is based on one s
knowledge/wisdom of the source of conflict, and assessing correctly what action should be taken.
In accordance with self control Socrates is forming an argument for free will. This idea that
humans are completely free to do whatever they desire (as long as it s possible) and completely
determine their own destiny is an idea that may have seemed unacceptable to Aeschylus. Socrates
might have stated that though Orestes asked for the gods help in the matter, he was in the end,
deciding for himself to kill his mother. From Socrates s argument Orestes would only be fooling
himself by letting his emotions conquer his own knowledge and wisdom, allowing him to justify
his acts through conforming to the gods.

Technology Makes Us Lonely
Does Technology Make us Feel Lonely?
Technology is there wherever you go in the world, whether it d be the computer in your living
room or the cell phone in your pocket. In fact, as of November 6 2016, it was estimated that 95%
of all Americans have some kind of cellphone and 77% have a smartphone (pewinternet.org). But
the real question is: does all this technology lead us to stray away from our friends and make us
feel more lonely? Some might be led to believe so, with how many people are so dependant on
technology, but the answer is no. In fact, technology actually helps us not feel lonely rather than
doing so. Social media, the internet, and how we connect with each other is what makes technology
helps us stay more connected with people rather than making us feel lonely.
Social media is the biggest it s been ever since it was invented, and it isn t slowing down. Since
January 2010, the number of U.S adults using social media rose from 43% to 69% in November
2016 (pewinternet.org). And as social media is accessed through technology, one might strongly
agree with how technology doesn t make us lonely. Social media, like Instagram, Facebook, and
even texting helps us connect with others. They let people contact with one another, whether its
through pictures or words. With all this information, it is hard for someone to argue with how
social media might make someone lonely, as it simply does the opposite. In fact, 57% of teens

The Transatlantic Slave Trade, The Most Honourable King...
To your royal highness, the most honourable King George III of Britain, I am writing to you to
inform you of the great success and benefit that slavery has to our great and rich nation. Britain
has been a great beneficiary of the transatlantic slave trades lucrative process and labour. As you
probably are already aware, the triangular trade, as we noble gent call it, started in the mid
fifteenth century due to when the Portuguese gained interest in Africa for reasons other than its
legendary supply of gold, to a more profitable and attainable commodity; slaves. Now before I
begin to regale you with the tantalising tales of the transatlantic slave trade, I shall inform you of
how it has successfully been working for the past months. Due to our highly intelligent and superior
nature, we employ the triangular trade as our very efficacious programme. The transatlantic slave
trade is composed of three distinct stages. It involves three great continents and establishes a
wonderful sense of unity and harmony, as we are all benefitting from this affluent commercial and
economic enterprise. Hence, it could even be referenced in later history that this was the first
system of globalization, which is a righteous and virtuous mention. The first phase of this glorious
route involves taking factory made merchandises from Western Europe to Africa. These comprise
of cloth, spirit, tobacco, beads, cowrie shells, metal goods, and also guns. These merchandises are
then traded for African

The Natural Gas Of Gas Essay
Natural gas liquefaction goes back to the 19th century when Michael Faraday, a British chemist and
physicist, experimented with liquefying different types of gases including natural gas. Liquefied
natural gas (LNG) is an odorless, colorless, non toxic, non corrosive and non flammable form of
methane. The first liquefied natural gasplant was built in West Virginia in 1912 (Dominion). The
LNG was first produced in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1939. In the 1950s and 1960s, the ocean going
trade in international LNG began. In 1969, the first LNG terminal and commercial liquefaction
facility in the world in the United States began operations in Kenai, Alaska. The Kenai Peninsula
LNG plant, operated by ConocoPhillips, is one of the oldest and constantly operated LNG plants
in the world. In order for natural gas to be exported overseas, it must first be turned into liquefied
natural gas, attested and a safe process that requires the construction and operation of new facilities.
The US government has a deep history of regulating different aspects of natural gas, including
LNG, in interstate commerce. In 1938, Congress passed the Natural Gas Act, which granted the
Federal Power Commission (FPC) exclusive jurisdiction over the import and export of natural gas.
The federal government had been reorganized since 1938. To this day, the function of protecting
the public interest for natural gas imports and exports has been allocated between two federal
entities which are the FERC and DOE.

Analysis Of Stephen Crane s The Open Boat
Naturalism is a literary genre that focuses on how the role of social conditions, family background,
and the environment shape the character. Most stories are based on the idea that the environment
determines and governs human character (2015). Naturalists depict their characters as having little
or no control over their lives, as they are usually removed of their free will by uncontrollable
external forces (such as nature) or if they are in a lower class of society. Some characteristics of
naturalist writing include determinism, pessimism, indifference to the environment, and survival.
Stephen Cranes The Open Boat is an exemplar of naturalist writing, as it shows most, if not all, of
these characteristics.
1. Determinism According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although steady, it was deep with mourning... (Crane p. 585). Though usually optimistic and
upbeat, the captain shares a couple of pessimistic thoughts while they were stranded. In section 4,
the captain says, if we don t get ashore...if we don t get ashore, I suppose you fellows know
where to send news of my finish? (Crane p. 590). The captain, the supposed leader, says these
discouraging words. He also repeats, If we don t get ashore which it also shows a pessimistic
attitude. Even though pessimism is an important part of naturalism, an indifference of nature is one
of the key characteristics in naturalistic literature, and it is shown in The Open Boat.
3. Indifference to Nature The four men in The Open Boat have no control over their situation as
nature controls their story. This is shown in the first lines of the story: None of them knew the
color of the sky. Their eyes glanced level, and were fastened upon the waves that swept them.
(Crane p. 584). The first few sentences just say that the four men can t see the sky since the
waves splash into them. Crane sets the scene of this bleak tale by giving the reader a setting that
is the complete opposite of a serene, nice, day out on the water. It shows that the crew s lives are
only going to go downhill from there.
Later in section 1, Crane writes that A singular disadvantage of the sea lies in the fact that after

Introduction
The term structure of interest rates describes the empirical relationship between the yields on fixed
income securities and their term to maturity (Poitras, 2005). The yield curve is the term structure s
graphical representation, plotting the yields of fixed income securities as a function of their
maturity (Stander 2005, Cochrane, 2005).
Yield curves are widely used in pricing and valuation techniques, supporting subjective and
objective decision making processes. Yield curves offer information that assists practitioners in

In this respect, the following model will be employed: y_i=a+bM_i+cM_i^2+dM_i^3+e_i where:
y_i≡yield to maturity of the bond
M_i≡bond^ s time to maturity a,b,c,d≡parameters to be estimated e_i≡the deviation of
the actual yield from the fitted yield
The input data will consist of yields to maturity and respective time to maturity of the sample
bonds. The independent (explained) variable in this model will be the yield to maturity. The
explanatory variables will consist of the bonds time to maturity at the power of 1, 2 and 3
respectively.
Since the sample data provides the maturity dates of each bond, the bond s time to maturity (M_i)
is calculated using the following formula:
M_i=(maturity date of bond i today^ s date)/(number of days in a year)
Today s date is assumed to be 14/11/2014; number of days in a year are assumed to be 365.25 thus,
allowing for leap years to be taken into account.
Subsequently M_i^2 and M_i^3 are also calculated for each bond in the sample.
The model will be estimated using OLS regression method. The regression parameters are being
estimated employing Excel s regression function.
The yield to maturity of the new bond is being estimated by substituting the bond s time to maturity
(M_i) into the estimated yield curve equation:
(y_i ) М‚=a М‚+b М‚M_i+c М‚M_i^2+d М‚M_i^3

Oscar Pistoriusis obviously guilty of harming this innocent victim and her family. Mr.Pistorius has

Diffusion Water Lab
Properties of Water Lab
In the diffusion experiment, we sought to understand how diffusion works across a plasma
membrane by simulating a caterpillar consuming plants. My hypothesis was: If we test the
diffusion using Lugol s solution, we will find the dialysis tube to be semipermeable. We used
three beakers: one small beaker, and two larger beakers, as well as dialysis tubes, clamps, two
pipettes, starch, Lugol, test strips (to test the glucose level), and amylase.
Starch (representing a plant) was put into a small beaker; the grayish white color was recorded
and the test strips revealed the glucose level to be normal. Amylase was added to the small beaker
as well, and the mixture was stirred. The color of the solution became clear and the glucose level
was recorded to be 250 mg/dL. The end of one of the dialysis tubes was sealed with the dialysis ...

The Lugol diffused from its place of high concentration (in the water) to that of low concentration
(dialysis tube that contained no lugol). This experiment showed how diffusion works across a
semipermeable membrane. If the dialysis tube was impermeable then the starch would not have
changed colors, but because it was semipermeable the lugol was able to diffuse through the tube
and change the color of the starch. While observing the control bag we found the color of the water
to be unaltered. The starch molecules were unable to cross the membrane, proving that the tube was
semi permeable. In conclusion, the results of the experiment not only demonstrates diffusion but
also displays how permeable membranes, such as a dialysis tube, can be. The results support my
hypothesis. The glucose level changed in the experiment from 250 to 100 proving that the tube
allowed glucose in, but was impermeable to starch. The experiment reflected the results of
biological simulation: glucose molecules crossing membranes into the intestinal

  • 2. Leonardo The Artist, By Maria Vittoria Brugnoli And The... I have currently finished reading the book Leonardo The Artist. The book is made up by three of Da Vinci s scholars. One part of the book entitled The Painter is by Anna Maria Brizio, the other part is The Sculptor which is interpreted by Maria Vittoria Brugnoli and the last section is The Teacher by AndrГ© Chastel. The book is comprised of Da Vinci s notebooks with sketches and comments on his work in progress; all of which was rediscovered in 1965. The general purpose for this book is to show Da Vinci s ideology surrounding art and intellectual findings that contributed to his talent. Leonardo Da Vinciwas more than just a painter. He was also considered a sculptor and a teacher. He found interest in mathematic, science and nature. This book reveals how boundless Da Vinci s curiosity was. Da Vinci trained as a painter in the studio of Andrea Verrocchio. He devoted long hours to the study of nature even on holy days. Da Vinci explored every branch of science known at his time and proved to many that he was far ahead of his time. This is exemplified in his precise observations and the value he placed on empirical truth. Da Vinci states, No human investigation can be called true science without going through mathematical tests... (page 16) This basically refers to the scientific method. In sketch after sketch, his notebooks cite his preoccupation with architecture both as an artistic expression and as a technical problem. In his painting of the town plan of ... • 3. Police Procedural Sub-Genre In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood It is impossible to follow every guideline for a police procedural novel when writing on a true event. Features considered important to the police procedural sub genre may not be present within the real life crime, and adding details for the procedural sub genre VIOLATES/TARNISHES the credibility of the true crime aspects of the novel. Despite the difficulties of blending a true crime and a crime fiction sub genre, with some compromise on the guidelines of both genres, Capote completed In Cold Blood, a well balanced novel that describes a true crime event from a police procedural standpoint. On November 15, 1959, Perry Smith and Dick Hancock committed the brutal quadruple murder of the Clutter family. The bodies of Herbert Clutter, his wife Bonnie, and their children Nancy and Kenyon, were discovered scattered throughout their Kansas ranch home the following morning, the same day that a three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He began his investigations by packing up and travelling to Garden City, Kansas with his friend and fellow author, Harper Lee, who became a valuable asset by becoming friendly with the local people which, by extension, made Capote more accepted, as well. Though the townspeople were initially suspicious of him, after a month they began to open up and consent to interviews, with the number of people willing to be interviewed growing after Hancock and Smith were arrested. Capote also made sure to do other forms of research on other murderers, murder in general, and the mentality of criminals to give himself a more informed perspective of Hancock and Smith s actions. There can be no claiming that Capote did not put full effort into gathering relevant information for In Cold Blood. He was so devoted to his research that, when the friendly driver who picked up the hitchhiking Hancock and Smith denied all knowledge of doing so, he travelled to Omaha to confront the man face to ... • 4. Rivers Of Zadaa Analysis e Compromise of 1850 ostensibly was a prudent solution to the issue of slavery in borderline states. However, it ultimately led to cataclysmic bloodshed and contributed to the United States escalation into civil war. Compromise is not necessarily the best way to resolve a conflict because compromise can lead to prolonged feelings of acrimony and antipathy among opposing groups and eventually incur even greater conflict. For example, in D.J. MacHale s Rivers of Zadaa, the belligerent Batu and Rokador tribes experience resentment towards one another because of a tenuous treaty between the two. Likewise, in the T.V. series Gundam, conflicts between naturally born humans and genetically enhanced humans escalate into war despite the valiant efforts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay on Black Arts Movement BAM! The Black Arts Movement The amazing era of the Black Arts Movement developed the concept of an influential and artistic blackness that created controversial but significant organizations such as the Black Panther Party. The Black Arts Movement called for an explicit connection between art and politics (Smith). This movement created the most prevalent era in black art history by taking stereotypes and racism and turning it into artistic value. This connection between black art and politics was first made clear in a great essay written by Larry Neal in the summer of 1968. This essay illustrated the Black Arts Movement s manifesto or plan. Neal wrote: The Black Arts Movement is radically opposed to any concept of the artist... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His words, Fuck poems that are useful summed up that the black community was not looking for false hopes but for reality. This poem had a very powerful effect on the black community who related to the desire of Black Art (Bader). This group of people are anticipated to take over from the infamous Baby Boomers. The millennial generation This generation is best described as the first to try out new technologies that are on the market. They will usually own more than one smart phone, an example would be an Iphone, Blackberry or even a Samsung. They leave out critical definitions that are very important to the truth of the matter. http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=106508,00.html The Law: There is a host of constitutional and statutory authority establishing that the Internal Revenue Service is an agency of the United States. The U.S. Supreme Court stated in Donaldson v. United States, 400 U.S. 517, 534 (1971), [w]e bear in mind that the Internal Revenue Service is organized to carry out the broad responsibilities of the Secretary of the Treasury (Notice they do not define Secretary) under В§ 7801(a) of the 1954 Code for the administration and enforcement of the internal revenue laws. Pursuant to section 7801, the Secretary of Treasury (again Notice they do not define secretary) has full authority to administer and enforce the internal revenue laws and has the power to create an agency to enforce such laws. Based upon this, the Internal Revenue Service was created. Thus, the Internal Revenue Service is a body established by positive law because it was created through a congressionally mandated power. Moreover, section 7803(a) explicitly provides that there shall be a Commissioner of Internal Revenue who shall administer and supervise the execution and application of the internal ... • 8. Symptoms And Treatment Of My Childhood Most people would not find weight loss, heat intolerance, and an elevated heart rate in a twelve year old particularly worrying. Most people, assuming they even noticed these things, might write them off as growing pains. My mother, however, was not most people. She was a registered nurse, eighteen years in, and she had an inkling of what the symptoms might indicate. I remember feeling concerned that my mother had deemed it necessary to schedule an appointment at Vanderbilt Children s Hospital. Sitting in the examination room, I felt my nerves heighten as my mother described the seemingly inoffensive symptoms to the physician, who regarded her intently. The subsequent blood testconfirmed what my mother had suspected: elevated T3/T4 and suppressed TSH levels, indicating hyperthyroidism. The unknown term frightened me instantly. Sensing my alarm, my endocrinologist explained what hyperthyroidism meant. My thyroid was producing excessive amounts of hormones. She assured me that the condition was manageable, and with daily medication and occasional blood tests, I would be fine. The sincerity in her eyes and the warmth of her voice were all I needed to trust her words. Through the remainder of my childhood, I became very familiar with the Children s Hospital. Spending so much time in the waiting room before appointments yielded the opportunity to observe many other children, both older and younger, many with cases more debilitating than mine. A part of me was saddened that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Lease And Marketing Plan uestion1 a)Issue1: who are promoters in Butterfly s case? The lease and marketing plan failed to expand office space and attract new clients, Butterfly had cash flow problems and sold to Xco Ltd, Consequently, Butterfly can sue promoters for the recession of the contracts or damages. In this case, there is five person involved John, Paula, George, Robyn and Brian. Generally, Emma Silver Mining s case defines a person who is involved in the creation of a new company is a promoter. John, Paula, George and Robyn undertook mining project, shared the rental cost and sometimes referred clients, i.e.: they are promoters as they took active parts in the formation of a company and generated the necessary share capital to carry on business. For Brian, an accountant providing tax service, does not act purely in his professional captivity and he agreed to purchase some non voting shares of Butterfly. This makes him take an inactive position in Butterfly but can receive dividends. The similar facts in Mandalay s case, RSC leaves the project to Mandalay and also gets profit from the operation, therefore Brian is a promoter, too. In summary, John, Paula, George, Robyn and Brian, as Butterfly s promoters, automatically establish a fiduciary relationship with Butterfly. Issue 2: do promoters owe fiduciary duties to Butterfly? If breached fiduciary duties, who will be liable for entering into the lease and marketing contracts? In this case, Robyn and George signed agreements with third ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Oral History Of The September 11, 2001 Attacks Essay Oral History of the September 11, 2001 Attacks The day September 11, 2001 stands out in the minds of all Americans, not only because it changed the course of history, but it affected the daily lives of America s people. Whether they encountered the events first hand in New York City, or they simply watched the iconic World Trade Centerfall on television as the events unfolded, the assaults of 9/11 have left a permanent stain on the lives of America s citizens. Individuals such as my father, Kurt M. Thomas, have vivid recollections of exactly where they were on the day of the attack. However, the retention of this event is not the only result of these events, for Dad s experience as an American citizen who lived through the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks is one that reflects the pervasive apprehension that many Americans have towards the future of the United States and its relations with counties of the Middle East as a result of the fear experienced that day. His recollection expresses the nativist concern and fear for oneself and one s nation that many Americans articulated throughout the course of history. On the day of the attack, Dad said he experienced a fear that he had never quite experienced until that point in his life. He retorted, Growing up, bomb threats were taken as joke. No one took them seriously until after the attacks on September 11. The first memory that Dad had when I asked him to tell me about the events of 9/11 was his location. In Carroll ... Long Term Care Sociology In long term care facilities, or nursing homes as they are often referred to are facilities in which residents live, whom are usually of the older population and are cared for by nurses and nursing assistants. The ratio of residents to nursing assistants can vary by state and shift, for example in Ohio there may not be more than fifteen residents per nursing assistant in a shift in order for residents to receive the optimum amount of care possible. Activities of Daily Living can include just that, such as cooking/eating, bathing, personal care, toileting and help with medications. This around the clock care can be quite expensive for anyone, especially those who have already retired and were living on a fixed income, including retirement and social security. In the facility that I observed to live on the skilled care side and receive care twenty four hours a day seven days a week in a semi private room (double occupancy room), the cost was nearly $11,000 a month for each resident. The average cost across the country is $248 per day for a private room and $222 daily for a semi private room (Costs Of Care), which for a private room can add up to over $90,000 a year. While that number is quite high assisted living can be much cheaper, at an average of $3,300 a month for the base fee , however each additional service that they require help from staff to complete is an additional fee. In the facility observed there was a fee for every action that staff completed or assisted with, including assistance with medication, trash, cleaning, and applying treatments such as a breathing machine. Though the cost may seem high many who do not have children or other family members to help provide care for themselves or have a condition that cannot be managed at home (due to physical or financial restraints) have no choice but to enter a long term care facility to receive help completing tasks needed for simple ... My faith has been a big part of my life. It has gotten me through the good, the bad and the ugly. There have been dry seasons in my faith, but even in those times God has remained faithful. Each day Godis teaching me something new about who He is. He is continually growing me to be more like Him. It is my faith that pushes me to fight for justice. One of my favorite passages in the Bibleis Psalm 82:2 4, How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked. He is the ultimate healer and world changer. Since working in this field takes a lot of faith and trust in God, spiritual disciplines are very important. Over the years, this is something that God has been growing me in. He has shown me the importance of truly studying His word and writing it on my heart. When I study His Word, I tend to do it book by book. I will read a certain book multiple times before moving on to the next book. Each time, Jesus seems to point out something new. Prayer is also another area where I have grown. I tend to pray all throughout the day. I like being in constant communication with God. I have learned that prayer is important when combatting human trafficking. There are situations in which prayer seems to be the only option. I believe everything should be done with ... In 1928 Charles Terry and Nildred Pellens, following an interpretation of R. • 15. Comparing Ovid s The Myth Of Daedalus And Icarus The myth of Daedalus and Icarus has been approached by many different artists with many differing depictions of the event. Some artists such as Ovid, chose to focus on Daedalus and Icarus and leave everyone else out. Other artists, for instance, Pieter Bruegel the Elder and W. H. Auden, have much more panoramic views of the situation and include others in their works. Different approaches can leave the readers with different understandings of this ancient myth. In Ovid s The Myth of Daedalus and Icarus, the author uses a third person point of view to closely follow Daedalus and Icarus. From this, readers are more tightly attached to the characters and know more about them. Readers of this story witness the inventing and engineering of the wings by Daedalus and know the conflicting desires of Daedalus to escape from prison and to protect his son. One thing that is emphasized in this story is the overwhelming sorrow of Daedalus, both before due to fear of Icarus falling, and after due to the loss of his son. Ovid includes ... The author is essentially verbalizing the painting Landscape with the Fall of Icarus. Much like Icarus isn t a huge part of the painting, he is also given very little mention in this poem. The underlying theme of this poem is that suffering is surrounded by the busyness of everyday life. Differences Between Judaism And Judaism Judaism has a concrete connection to the development of Christianity which has influenced the teachings of the religion that would not be made possible without its presence. There are similarities between the Christian faiths to Judaism from how the religions are practiced to the hymns that are shared between the two. A primary difference is the historical background to the discovery of the religions. Another difference would be the sacred text that are used in prayer considering Judaismuses the Hebrew bibleand Christians use the New Testament. The Hebrew bible is referred to as the Old Testament yet that might not be the case according to Jews. A similarity from the two religions is the fact that they are both monotheism which is the belief that there is only one God. Yet the two differ on the beliefs on the one that is called God or the divine. Another fascinating similarity that the two share are the Ten Commandments. The commandments were discovered by Moses on two tablets which has been practice by Jews primarily. The adaptation of the commandments were carried over into the New Testament. Considering most of the Hebrew Bible shares a cross connection into the New testament it is clear that it would not have been created without the influence of Judaism. In this article, the authors explain that the high level of Medicare spending was mostly due to the increase number of physician visits, specialist consultations, and hospitalstays, especially among those that had chronic illnesses. Through these guidelines and goals, the Medicare program would be restructured to make high quality health care to all Medicare enrollees and to reduce the costs of Medicare. As a whole, the authors of the articles shed light to the inequality of medical care among Medicare recipients depending on the region. Not only inequality, but even with those individuals that received large care, there was no notable difference of their overall health with those that spent least. In other words, the amount spent on Medicare patients has no correlation with better health or higher quality of life. My personal version of the definition of musicis a variant of the definition listed above. However, simply because my definition of music similarly matches with John Cage s definition doesn t mean that the listener must modify their definition, because in any definition of music that a person creates they cannot argue the fact that music is varying sounds combined with rhythm. As explained by Yee (2005), racism is also seen as white institutionalized privilege occurring as a response to history, and is intended to put down those who are not of a majority group. Whiteness, as Yee (2005) refers to, is the social process that maintains the system of dominance making those who are dominant hold more power and construct the values in a society (p. 89). This dominant group is what limits social workers from changing society and institutional perspectives. Anti racism attempts to examine the roots of the oppressor s negative beliefs and attitude towards minorities in order to help the oppressed. It also, aims to lessen the gap between the majority and minority and focuses on the problem being broader than just ignorance and prejudgment. Yee highlights that an individual s identity significantly affects where one will be socially located, and how racism makes people believe that one can be defined from the color of their skin or their culture. Which is why it highlights the need for the oppressor to be educated on cultures of racial minorities in order to help end racism and stereotypes (Yee, 2005). In addition, it emphasizes to gain knowledge on people s history to better understand the degree to which people of colour have been discriminated. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples Of Hedonic Pricing Models Hedonic pricing models are tools used for estimating the value of a good or commodity based on the premise that price is determined by the both the characteristics of the good being sold and any external factors effecting it. Since the hedonic model calculates the value of a commodity by summing the estimated values of its individual characteristics, it is best suited for use with commodities that are extremely heterogeneous. One example of an extremely heterogeneous commodity that is well suited to estimation using hedonic pricing models is the real estatemarket. When we read about the sale of property in the US Real Estate market, for example that a home in your neighborhood sold for $500,000, we gain limited information about the value of other properties in the same area. In rabbit plasma, there is a distinctly high concentration of CES, seemingly due to the low expression of BChE, indicating an inverse relationship between CES and BChE levels (Bahar and Imai, 2013). PON and BChE expression in all species are ubiquitous, with especially high expression in primates (Bahar et al., 2012). In humans, it is estimated that, for aspirin hydrolysis in plasma, BChE is approximately 30% responsible for activity, and has low and high affinity binding sites for calcium and/or magnesium (Bahar and Imai, 2013). PON is approximately 50% accountable, requiring calcium for substrate hydrolysis, and albumin is 16%, acting as a plasma carrier protein by binding, and shows esterase like activity. In rabbits, CES, due to its extensive hydrolytic ability (Bahar et al., 2012), makes it the primary contributor to aspirin hydrolysis in rabbit plasma (Bahar and Imai, 2013). There are two approaches which are commonly used for solving project selection and sequencing. The first approach is integer programming (Weingartner 1966; Cochran et al. 1971; Clark et al. 1984; Johnson et al. 1985) and the second one is dynamic programming (Weingartner 1966; Nemhauser and Ullman 1969; Morin and Esogbue 1971; Erlenkotter 1973; Morin 1974). In following knowledge, emotions will surface and inevitably line up with the beliefs that the person has. Thus this leads to the question of free will. Are we truly having our genuinely own feelings? Or were we predestined to act this way and thus feel? Socrates argues that we are not predestined, that we can have self control over our emotions and passions and thus lead us to have self control over our actions. With this in mind Socrates also talks about having this self control, in that attaining it is based on one s knowledge/wisdom of the source of conflict, and assessing correctly what action should be taken. In accordance with self control Socrates is forming an argument for free will. This idea that humans are completely free to do whatever they desire (as long as it s possible) and completely determine their own destiny is an idea that may have seemed unacceptable to Aeschylus. Socrates might have stated that though Orestes asked for the gods help in the matter, he was in the end, deciding for himself to kill his mother. The Natural Gas Of Gas Essay Natural gas liquefaction goes back to the 19th century when Michael Faraday, a British chemist and physicist, experimented with liquefying different types of gases including natural gas. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is an odorless, colorless, non toxic, non corrosive and non flammable form of methane. The first liquefied natural gasplant was built in West Virginia in 1912 (Dominion). The LNG was first produced in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1939. In the 1950s and 1960s, the ocean going trade in international LNG began. • 50. Analysis Of Stephen Crane s The Open Boat Naturalism is a literary genre that focuses on how the role of social conditions, family background, and the environment shape the character. Most stories are based on the idea that the environment determines and governs human character (2015). Naturalists depict their characters as having little or no control over their lives, as they are usually removed of their free will by uncontrollable external forces (such as nature) or if they are in a lower class of society. Some characteristics of naturalist writing include determinism, pessimism, indifference to the environment, and survival. Stephen Cranes The Open Boat is an exemplar of naturalist writing, as it shows most, if not all, of these characteristics. 1. Determinism According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The captain, the supposed leader, says these discouraging words. He also repeats, If we don t get ashore which it also shows a pessimistic attitude. Even though pessimism is an important part of naturalism, an indifference of nature is one of the key characteristics in naturalistic literature, and it is shown in The Open Boat. 3. Indifference to Nature The four men in The Open Boat have no control over their situation as nature controls their story. This is shown in the first lines of the story: None of them knew the color of the sky. Their eyes glanced level, and were fastened upon the waves that swept them. (Crane p. 584). The independent (explained) variable in this model will be the yield to maturity. The explanatory variables will consist of the bonds time to maturity at the power of 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Since the sample data provides the maturity dates of each bond, the bond s time to maturity (M_i) is calculated using the following formula: M_i=(maturity date of bond i today^ s date)/(number of days in a year) Today s date is assumed to be 14/11/2014; number of days in a year are assumed to be 365.25 thus, allowing for leap years to be taken into account. Subsequently M_i^2 and M_i^3 are also calculated for each bond in the sample. The model will be estimated using OLS regression method. The regression parameters are being estimated employing Excel s regression function. The yield to maturity of the new bond is being estimated by substituting the bond s time to maturity (M_i) into the estimated yield curve equation: (y_i ) М‚=a М‚+b М‚M_i+c М‚M_i^2+d М‚M_i^3 From the definition of yield to ... • 54. The Olympian Oscar Pistorius’s Fame The twenty seven year old amputee Olympian, Oscar Pistorius accused of murder.Involving his late model and law grad girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on the night of Valentines day last year.Through his murder trial Mr.Pistorius has proven through his statements to be an overprotective person in certain situations.Mr.Pistorius to have an unstable mind, and last still fearful of the situation at hand. Oscar Pistoriusis obviously guilty of harming this innocent victim and her family. Mr.Pistorius has a troubling past when it comes to crime, if it wasn t facing charges in court, it was witnessing and hearing stories of crime being done to his family. Pistorius picked up the habit of keeping a gun under his bed, due to his mother. So at the night of the murderhe believed it was intruder he had this to say: I was was too scared to switch a light on. I grabbed my 9 mm pistol from underneath my bed (Westfall,2014,para,3).Pistorius must have been waiting on a moment like this and didn t know how to handle himself when the results of the aftermath shed a new light. In a statement in court , Mr.Pistorius view of crime is to be mindful of crime, cautious when it comes to intruders , and to be offensive when coming across a threat(Lyall,2014,para.9). During the night of the murder Mr. Oscar Pistorius s paranoia obviously worked against him in the night of the incident. The Olympian Oscar Pistorius s fame most of got the best of him, because he seems to be very unstable. Pistorius has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Diffusion Water Lab Properties of Water Lab In the diffusion experiment, we sought to understand how diffusion works across a plasma membrane by simulating a caterpillar consuming plants. My hypothesis was: If we test the diffusion using Lugol s solution, we will find the dialysis tube to be semipermeable. We used three beakers: one small beaker, and two larger beakers, as well as dialysis tubes, clamps, two pipettes, starch, Lugol, test strips (to test the glucose level), and amylase. Starch (representing a plant) was put into a small beaker; the grayish white color was recorded and the test strips revealed the glucose level to be normal. Amylase was added to the small beaker as well, and the mixture was stirred. The color of the solution became clear and the glucose level was recorded to be 250 mg/dL. The end of one of the dialysis tubes was sealed with the dialysis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Lugol diffused from its place of high concentration (in the water) to that of low concentration (dialysis tube that contained no lugol). This experiment showed how diffusion works across a semipermeable membrane. If the dialysis tube was impermeable then the starch would not have changed colors, but because it was semipermeable the lugol was able to diffuse through the tube and change the color of the starch. While observing the control bag we found the color of the water to be unaltered. The starch molecules were unable to cross the membrane, proving that the tube was semi permeable. In conclusion, the results of the experiment not only demonstrates diffusion but also displays how permeable membranes, such as a dialysis tube, can be. The results support my hypothesis. The glucose level changed in the experiment from 250 to 100 proving that the tube allowed glucose in, but was impermeable to starch. The experiment reflected the results of biological simulation: glucose molecules crossing membranes into the intestinal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
