Summary Of John Muir s Save The Redwoods
John Muir, a brilliant Transcendentalist, has written hundreds of enlightening environmental
essay to emphasize the adamant need to save these sacred kings of the forests, the Redwoods.
Within Muir s vivid and emotional entries, specifically Save the Redwoods , John utilizes
rhetorical devices such as personification, analogy, and Religious allusion in order to express the
vital need to save the trees. In the serious yet optimistic journal entry, John Muir employs the
idea of spiritual duty, and personification, as humans to preserves the continuously killed
Redwoods. Muir has seen the death of hundreds of trees and knows the irreparable damage it
could cause if the damage continues, ...kings of the forest, the noblest of a noble race, rightly
belong to the world, but as they are in California we cannot escape responsibility as their
guardians (paragraph, 6). The author s use of noblest of a noble race and responsibility as their
guardian evokes an intense need to not only protest the killing of these giants but to nurture and
advocate respect for the Redwoods. As humans, Muir demands an explanation as to our
mistreatment of the sacred creatures and will take no other answers than of one that demonstrates
total and complete love for the trees. He expects those who are damaging God s prized forests to
questions themselves and to examine their actions so that they can correct their mistakes. Another
example of personification that appeals to the trees is John Muir s description of the insurgence of
rebellion against the murder of the trees, and the rejoicing of the behemoths, ... this righteous
uprising in defense of God s trees in the midst of exciting politics and wars... and every Sequoia...
has heard the good news and is waving its branches for joy (paragraph, 1). The words in this
sentence serve primarily to illustrate the tree s emotions. By giving the trees the ability to feel
and exhibit joy over their possibly brighter future, it gives people a sense of pride about
alleviating some of the Redwood s pain. As Muir has demonstrated many times before, it is the
people s duty to cherish the Redwoods; there will never be a moment when this job is completed.
John Muir also uses an analogy to bare

Essay on Three inherited Behaviors of E tailing Communication 470 Michael Zarvos September,

product, the process, and the partnership. The intent or the attempt of electronic retailers is to
mediate or be the messenger conveying the message at every level to encourage and to assure the
buyer s or the customer decision that will gain trust and loyalty so that the customer will return to
the business site, which in turn will provide more revenue and profit. The first behavior that I will
discuss in the consumer model is the product or service search. This is initially influenced by
independent or uncontrollable variables (DMS Retailer, 2011). Some of the charateristics such as
age, gender, culture, and lifestyle. Some moderating variables are within the control of the vendor.

Essay about †Twist’ed Outcomes
Oliver Twist, a novel written by Charles Dickens during the Victorian Era, chronicles the life of
a small young boy. Oliver, an orphan grows up in a workhouse in severe and harsh conditions.
Placed under the subjugation of the upper class, Oliver is taken for granted to be corrupt and
immoral because he is unlearned and poor. However, this stereotype is soon faulted when Oliver
turns out to be an innocent and sympathetic boy whose fate is inadvertently tragic. Even with
such disadvantages, it is Oliver s looks of innocence and lack of evil inside him that enables him
to rise out from poverty. His innocence is the tool that allows Oliver to escape life at the bottom of
society. It is also the trait that brings many people to pity him and... Show more content on

Little Oliver Twist lay on his back on the pavement with his shirt unbuttoned and his temples
bathed with water, his face a deadly white, and a cold tremble convulsing his whole frame. Poor
boy, poor boy! said Mr. Brownlow, bending over him. Call a coach, somebody, pray. Directly! A
coach was obtained, and Oliver, having been carefully laid on one seat, the old gentleman got in
and sat himself on the other. (107).
When Mr. Brownlow first sees Oliver, he pities Oliver because he is a wretched child
manipulated by the crime world. Unlike a criminal, Oliver has the look of innocence that forces
others to pay sympathy toward him and treat him with gentleness and kindness. It is with this
example that shows that Dickens is protesting that not everyone who is poor and helpless
deserve what they receive. Instead he is saying that everyone should be allowed a second chance
to redeem themselves. In this case, Oliver s appearance has allowed him to be taken care by
Brownlow himself. Instead of being left to die on the streets of London, Oliver is taken to the
estate of a very wealthy man to be nursed back to health. With this occurrence, Dickens has shown
foresight of Oliver beginning his journey to trace his family lineage and claim his family s name
and therefore rise up in society.
After Oliver is nurtured back to health by Mr. Brownlow, he is sent to return books back to the
library. When he accidentally makes a wrong turn, he encounters Bill and Nancyand they

Matinees musicales were written purposely as a ballet. In the beginning, it was a subito dynamic
which occurred in 5 intervals, followed by a happy/cheery like piano dynamic theme that
represented the march. This part the ballerinas showed a light but fast footwork. Throughout the
composition the beat was recurring to the movement before it and in some instances it mimic the
beat but in lower rather in a higher level. There were five movements in Matinees, the March,
noctume, waltz, pantomime and moto perpetuo. A moto perpetuo is another name for perpetuum
mobile which means a fast moving instrumental music that consists of mainly of notes that are of
equal length. Along with Benjamin Britten also included Soirees musicales, Op.9. Was a suite of
five movements beginning with the march, cansonetta, tirolese, bolero, tarantella; that came from
different parts of the musicales. The march was a grand subito with a fast tempo following the
canzonetta that was more ritantando of the rhythm and a lullaby timbre; tirolese was more of a
happy tone color and with 4 beat changes that range from high to low; bolero has that folk theme to
it and tarantella was a grand rhythm with triple meter. Britten had a sense of humor which explains

Sir, we have done everything that could be done to avert the storm which is now coming on. We
have petitioned; we have remonstrated; we have supplicated... (Henry).
Historical Content: in 1775 Patrick Henry, a member of the Continental Congress, gave a speech to
encourage the VirginiaMilitia to fight the British. Patrick Henry and his fellow Americans were
able to see that a war was inevitable, every effort to declare their independence have been ignored.
The Americans have tried numerous times to find a peaceful solution. Many advocates like Henry
knew that there was no more waiting, there was no room for hope, the only way to independence

The colonist cannot take the stress and bullying from the British anymore. They can here Boston s

Conclusion: Patrick Henry hoped to influence the people to fight for their freedom. Henry was able
to see the signs that the American colonies had no chance of independence. Every opportunity that
the colonial members took to try to seek independence the King of England either took it as a joke
or as a threat. The Colonist waited in hope for over ten years for freedom, Henry was able to see
that the only way out of the tyrant King was to fight or die trying to achieve independence.
Thesis Assessment: Although Henry was biased for saying the only way to freedom was fighting,
this drive for a fight is crucial to the founding of our nation. Patrick Henry made it clear that
fighting is the most effective way to gain their independence. Henry was able to point out the
problems that the colonies had while under the rule of the King of England, he knew that sitting

From the Large-Scale Universe to the Milky Way
Cosmology is the study of the universe, everything from the largest galaxies to the smallest atom. It
attempts to answer the question, How does the universe work? , by looking at everything in the
universe and working to understand it. Cosmology has always been studied, however in the last 20
years, technology has given scientists new information and allowed for an increasing knowledge of
the structure and history of the universewith the ultimate goal of finding a theory that can explain
everything. The Copernican Revolution was the beginning of modern cosmology. It was the time
when the geocentric model of the solar system was disproved, opening up the possibilities that
explained the universe. Newton s Laws provided another piece of the cosmology puzzle and gave
today s scientists the laws they must work with to explain the universe. Albert Einstein provided
yet another theory the universe must operate on, giving scientists even more boundaries for
whatever discoveries they make. With the modern addition of advanced telescopes, today s
scientists are able to explain the vastness of the universe, as well as how galaxies, stars, planets, and
all the other matter that makes up the universe. The Big Bangtheory explains how the universe
came to be. Before the Big Bang, there was nothing. After, there was something. 14 billion years
ago, a massive expansion began, creating all the matter necessary for the universe to exist today. It
was an extremely dense, hot, tiny

How Is Imagery Used In The Renaissance
Imagery during the English Renaissance was used by cavalier and metaphysical poets in order to
portray their message, communicate easily to the readers, and reveal their personal lives and
opinions through word choice and figurative language. Imagery was used by poets like Ben
Jonson, George Herbert, and John Milton in order to convey complex messages through the
comparison of spirituality and the physical world in a way that everyday people could relate to and
understand.
The cavalier poets came from the subservient class of the 17th century, who lived under the rule of
King Charles I a monarch known for his enforcement of the creation and appreciation of art. Written
in short, straight to the point verses, cavalier poetry was casual and focused on witty commentary,
eroticism, and the beauty of love and courtship. With this came straight forward and somewhat
unequivocal imagery. One famous poet of this time was Ben Jonson. Jonson lived a simplistic life ...

every individual has witnessed in their own lives. Visual perception and other physical senses of

The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas
Without evil, good would not exist either and that s one of the themes that is explored in The
Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas . In Omelas, every citizen is posed with a moral dilemma in
which they can either succumb to the society s viewpoint or walk away from the city and in my
creative piece, I voice the opinion from a person who left Omelas and explain the reasons of
why I left. The narrative of LeGuin s short story is told in first person, seeming to be just an
observer of the city. The story of Omelas is told without emotion while also void of judgment,
which really allows the readers to form their own objectives. The city is first introduced to its
readers as a society that is filled with only joy, with glimpses of all the cheerful... Show more

In my creative piece, I was a person who walked away from omelas and in my first paragraph, I
explained to my mom how I made my decision. It is a recall of the day the terms of the city s
happiness were revealed and I decided to that because in LeGuin s story, the actions of the ones
who leave are vaguely explained, but their thought process and reasoning are not. In that
paragraph I used the quotes, even if the child could be released, it would not get much good of
its freedom and been afraid too long ever to be free of fear (LeGuin, 1973) as the way the society
s actions are reasoned to a person by their mom. I thought it emphasized the difference in
morality of those who stay and those who leave. The people in the city constantly dehumanize the
child, acting as though he/she is just another useful tool in their society. While they have very
few laws in Omelas, they have a rule concerning the child. The terms are strict and absolute; there
may not even be a kind word spoken to the child. Furthermore, they kick and stare and even the
narrator refers to the child as it . In my creative piece, I never once called the child, it, to
emphasize the difference in which the child is

The Case Heard At Manchester Court
The case was heard at Manchester Crown Court on 2 December 2014. The defendant was
convicted of causing grievous bodily harm to the victim, contrary to s 47 of The Offences Against
the Person Act 1861. The victim held a party where there was a fallout which led to a bottle being
thrown by the defendant which injured the victim. The defendant denies deliberately harming the
victim and therefore it was left for a jury to decide upon whether the defendant was guilty or not
guilty. This report examines the victimologyin this case including the victim impact statement; it
then considers the suspect and what rights the suspect may have.

In the case at hand the victim was accused of agitating and shouting at the offender before the
throwing of the bottle. However, there has been much debate and criticism concerning victimology
as it can provide arguments which blame victims for their fate. The fact subjects of crime are called
victims even could imply passivity, or their cooperation. In early publications by Mendelsohn, it
is clear that he has the intention to partially defend the offender and transfer the blame partially
onto the victim for their actions, by drawing attention to the victims involvement .This attitude
towards victimology can create an overlap of victims and offenders, resulting in victim blame. In
a study carried out by Kris Henning and Robert Holdford in 2006, they investigate the
attributions of blame in the crimes of 2,824 male probationers convicted of a domestic assault
against a partner . Two thirds of the men attributed greater blame to partner characteristics, rather
than their own. This is frequently seen in the case of sexual abuse cases, where the victim s
characteristics are seen to be an attributing factor to their abuse. In a daily mail survey , it was
found that a third of Britons believe a woman who acts flirtatiously is partially or completely to
blame for being raped, with over a quarter believing that if a woman is wearing sexually
provocative clothing or is drunk, they are partially to blame for it. The increasingly blurred lines

Times Data Desk, 2017). We can compare this data neighboring Long Beach just a few miles to
the east of the peninsula. The median income there is $50,985 about 40% of the Rancho Palos
Verdes median. Similarly to the racial makeup within its schools, the percentages of Asian and
white people are high for the county overall, in relation to others nearby (L.A. Times Data Desk,
2017). Historically, the United States has directly tied its public education system to income
because a substantial portion of school funding is raised through local tax revenue (Owens,
Reardon, Jencks, 2016, p. 1161). Some states can help offset discrepancies, but others are
completely dependent on the value of local property and income levels. Thus we find situations
like Rancho Palos Verdes, where wealth is necessary to afford homes and the cost of living, and
nearby Long Beach, where families are far more likely to be able to live within their means. Often,
affluent counties claim that affordable housing brings no net benefits to the community and hurts
property values (Mueller, 2007, p. 1). The benefits, however, are often overlooked and can be
particularly impactful in educational spaces without which would be severely lacking in an income
segregated system. Richards (2014) finds that attendance zone boundaries reinforce racial
disparities in schools and can be manipulated by local officials in ways that disenfranchise or zone

one sex for certain characteristics in individuals of the other sex. This means they are copulating
with their other mate. Sexual selection can be dangerous in some cases depending on the rate and
length of copulating. It can be so harmful to species that they may not be able to survive from it
afterwards. Charles Darwin distinguished sexual selection and its various ways. He realized that
sexual selection is similar to natural selectionin some ways but also different in other forms of

advanced version of Battlezone to for Military training. We also see the debut of Pac Man in the

In 1981, after many failures to produce a hit title, Nintendo of Japan s Shigeru Miyamoto creates

Bank Mergers And Its Effect On The Banking Industry
Bank mergers often occur to diminish costs and increase efficiency across the banking industry.

The Painting Reflection
The 2011 animated movie, The Painting, directed by Jean François Laguionie, offered interesting
thoughts on the debates about the existence of god, the perception of reality, and freewill. The
complexity of the paintings and painter is in parallel with our understanding of the world and god
or creator. It prompts a question though. Are we blind to our own reality never realizing that we are
just one paintingwithin another and clueless about what is beyond our own frame? While a final
answer to these debates was not necessarily given because no one can truly discover the answer, the
story did propose an attitude or mindset that we should adopt leading to a better understanding of
the issues at hand.
Many members of each caste, the Alldunns, Halfies, and Sketchies, simply accepted the way things
were and assumed the painter made everything a certain way for a reason. Some thought the painter
would return to finish his work; others cursed the painter for being so cruel as to leave work
unfinished and allow such inequality; yet, even others thought the painter would not return and did
not care about them. The Alldunns even used this idea to discriminate against those they deemed
incomplete and unworthy of joining them in the castle. In the painting of the war, the two armies
fought day after day because that was all they knew. The struggles and differences between the
castes and in the war painting illustrated inequality and evil that were nonsensical and eventually

Theme Of Romanticism In Frankenstein And La Bell Dame Sans...
Many Romantic works have placed an important focus on the interesting figure of the strange,
mysterious and the Other. The essay will be concerned with the paramount role the Other plays in
Shelley s Frankenstein and Keats poems. Since this entity entails elements of unusualness and is
thus incomprehensible, it already dwells within the realm of oddness and unknowability. Therefore,
the figure of the Other in this essay will be treated as synonymous with that which is strange or
mysterious . Through installing such a disruptive figure into the orderly narrative structure as the
perplexing site of exoticness and peculiarity, the Romantic authors are not only creating a

As the foreign element in the poem, she already emanates a curious vibe of exotic fantasy
displayed from her strange language (23), such an impression then leading to her positioning as

words operating within the same context. While belle dame in French depicts a pleasant beautiful
maiden, the English version beldame contradictorily points towards the figuration of a malicious

The Basic Function Of A Police Officer
The Use of Force
It is the basic function of a police officer to deal with any problems that might require the use of
coercive force according to Carl B. Klockars (Dempsey and Frost 2011). I feel it is how they
uses that force is what makes the difference between a good officer and a bad one. This first
example from (www.justice.gov) is of an officer that uses excessive force on a suspect that is
already unter control, the only good i seen out of this is that the other officer on the scene reported
his conduct to their supervisor.
This case arose from Boone s use of excessive force against Orville Hill during Hill s arrest on Feb.
19, 2013. During the incident, Boone arrived at a scene where three fellow Des Moines police
officers were holding Hill on the ground and a fourth officer was standing over the group. Boone
ran up to the group and kicked Hill in the face, knocking out two of Hill s teeth and breaking his
nose. Other officers reported Boone s conduct to supervisors after learning that Boone had
submitted a written report in which he failed to account truthfully for his actions. On March 13,

Determining Genetic Disorders with Blood Tests
Genetic testing is when tests are done on the blood and other tissue to find genetic disorders in an
individual. It is used as a healthcare tool to detect gene variants associated to a certain disease or
disorder, and is used non clinically for paternity testing and forensics. There are many different
methods of testing, usually done with a blood sample. Other methods include diagnostic testing,
carrier testing, prenatal testing, pre implantation genetic testing, newborn screening,
pharmacogentic testing, and a few others. DNAhas about 12 million single nucleotide
polymorphisms and thousands of copy number variants, most of which are not harmful. Sometimes
these mutations in genes can cause genetic disorders that end up altering or inhibiting protein
function. GeneTherapy focuses on correcting the mutated genes usually by inserting a normal
gene into the genome. Researchers treat these diseases this way by repairing dysfunctional gene
or by providing copies of the missing gene. They isolate the normal DNA and package it into a
vector. Other ways include replacing the abnormal gene with a normal one, repair the mutated gene,
or altering the regulation of a certain gene. As of right now, reparative results have been marginal,
there is potential of gene therapy treating single gene disorders.
When used in healthcare, genetic testing can show the genetic cause of a disease, confirm a
suspected diagnosis of an illness, predict future illnesses, and predict responses to

Text Neck Speech
How many hours do you spend using your smartphone per day? Are you concerned about how
smartphone usage may be damaging your health and posture? Are you suffering from neck or
back pain? Were you aware that smartphone usage creates as much as 27 kg of force on your
neck? Will you be changing your habits to address this? Good afternoon, ladies and gentleman, I
am Zane. In the next few minutes, I am going to talk about text neck, a repetitive strain injury
(RSI). To start, we will look at the causes of text neck. Then, we will turn to the effects of text
neck. After which, I will share some ways on how to prevent suffering from text neck and
finally, I will summarize my presentation. First of all, let s look at what causes text neck. When
you peer down on your phone for extensive period, the natural curvature of your neck changes
and this puts a lot of pressure on our neck s vertebrae and disc. On average, our head weighs
about 4kg. But for every inch we drop our head forward, the load is doubled. And as you hunch
even further at 60 degree with your chin to your chest, the weight increase seven fold at around

Micro tears and soreness usually heal with time, but if the poor posture is not corrected, in the
long term, the discs may wear out, or even slip out, causing them to pinch on the nerves. This
would cause the person to feel pins and needles running down his or her arms. Besides that, the
posture also restricts your lungs ability to expand, impairing your lung s

Earthworms And Organic Fertilizers
The radish is an edible root vegetable of the Brassicaceae family. Radishes are great plants for
demonstrating the effects of different levels of plant nutrition, germinating and growing quickly
and reliably. Radish plants take up nutrients from the soil to make food. Soil is rich in essential
nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium; but these nutrients are sometimes not
present in the acceptable amount. Nitrogen is vital because it is a major component of chlorophyll,
which is the compound by which plants use in photosynthesis. It is also a major component of amino
acids and without them plants withers and die. Phosphorus is a component of the complex nucleic
acid structure of plants, which regulates protein synthesis and the... Show more content on

We came to the conclusion that the combination of earthworms and organic fertilizer did not
have an effect on the average growth of radish plants. We did a t test to see if there is a
statistically significant difference (at the О±=0.05 level) between the average growth of radish
plants grown with the organic fertilizer and worms treatment compared to average growth of
radish plants grown with only soil, earthworms with soil, or only organic fertilizer treatments.
Since, all p values were more than the alpha level, the results tell us that there is no significant
evidence that the average growth of radish plants grown using fertilizer with worms will be higher
than radish plants grown using only soil, earthworms with soil or only organic fertilizer. This could

Character Analysis Of Rebeckha Emerson In Time Enough For...
Peyton steates
Would one ever think to be so stubborn that they would make someone chose between two people
they love dearly? Well that is exactly what Rebeckha Emerson does in Time Enough For Drums by
Ann Rinaldi. Becky is a truly astonishing character with her actions. She is a tory who married a
british officer and she is jem older sister that has great manners but always speaks her mind. She
lives in Pennsylvania with grandfather henshaw . Throughout the story she show
stubbornness, outspoken, and she carries a strong conviction about John reid and jemima.
Rebecca Emerson is about as stubborn as they come. Initially, becky made jem choice between her
and the man she loved and he was unwell.Either he had to leave or herand her child and she had
no place to go . Jem ended up choosing john so becky stuck by her word and left .This shows she
is stubborn because even though she had nowhere to go she left anyway to show jem that she was
serious about her statement. Furthermore, becky states this after canoe(a native american)gives
them supplies I want him out of the house immediately (Rinaldi 208).This quote supports the fact
that she is stubborn because it show that she dislikes canoe so strongly that even though he gave
them a great amount of supplies she still will not let him stay for supper. In addition, she thought

Fish Cheeks By Amy Tan
Amy Tan s short story, Fish Cheeks, outlines the general idea of self acceptance. As the narrator,
fourteen year old Tan declares her love for her minister s son, Robert, who unlike herself, is as
white as Mary in the manger (Tan 1). This crush is anything but healthy, primarily because Tan is
reluctant to reveal her true self to him. This hesitance she portrays is strikingly recognizable in the
teenagers of today s world. Amy Tan s story, Fish Cheeks, is significant to the adolescents
of today s
society through the overall structure, quality, and applicability of the piece as the struggle to
accept oneself as an individual is still as present as it ever was.
As the story develops, the reader s thoughts are guided by the structure of the piece in a way that
Tan is able to share an important lesson through the form of a personal narrative. The opening text
immediately introduces the narrator and her insecurities as she wishes for a slim new American
nose (Tan 1). The story initially takes on a negative tone as Tan proceeds to have a negative
outlook throughout the entire evening. Her overwhelming anxiety can almost be felt by the reader
as she worries what Robert will think of her noisy Chinese relatives who lacked proper American
manners and overall shabby Chinese Christmas (Tan 1). With the tone set, Tan continues to amplify
each dreadful detail of her family s traditional Christmas Eve dinner. This includes the actual meal,
that of which appeared to be

Point Of View Interpretation In Henry James s The Turn Of...
In The Turn of the Screw, Henry James utilizes many aspects of the point of view technique, yet his
most palpable use comes in the form of the first person narrator. The use of the first person narrator
with the governess enables James to present the reader with many opportunities to question the
validity of her account, while at the same time adding to the complexity of the story. Due to James
clever use of the first person narrator, there is not necessarily a right or wrong way to observe the
governess s accounts, and more importantly, there is evidence throughout the text that could
substantiate both interpretations of the story. Perhaps the most important part of this technique
comes in the form of where James compels the reader to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While one could certainly believe that the governess tells the truth in this instance, Flora s
reaction paves the way for the interpretation that the governess is insane. The governess
illustrates this notion when she writes, Then, after this deliverance, which might have been that
of a vulgarly pert little girl in the street, she hugged Mrs. Grose more closely and buried in her
skirts the dreadful little face. In this position she launched an almost furious wail (70). If one
believes the governess, then Flora s tantrum could be seen as a ploy to appear normal in the eyes
of Mrs. Grose, yet the fact that the governess is a biased narrator allows the reader to conclude
that perhaps Flora genuinely fears the governess. Another instance where one could either confirm
or question the governess s visions of ghosts comes at the end with the final appearance of Peter
Quint. When the governess tries to compel Miles to admit that he sees Quint, she says, Whom do
you mean by he? In response Miles utters, Peter Quint you devil (85). Again, from the governess
point of view, this scene could validate the visions of ghosts throughout the novel, yet due to the
ambiguity and bias that comes with the first person narrator s account, one could also think
otherwise. From the other point of view, one could interpret this scene as Miles expressing his
anger at Peter Quint for driving the governess insane despite the ghost not actually

Serviceman Dorie Miller Essay
During the Second World War, be that as it may, African Americans discovered chances to
oppose these predispositions. One such illustration happened on December 7, 1941, when Pearl
Harbor was assaulted by the Japanese. Serviceman Dorie Miller dragged his leader to wellbeing
and, deprived of any formal battle preparing, kept an eye on an automatic weapon, shooting
down a few Japanese planes. Mill operator was granted the Navy Cross for his dauntlessness on

Prior to the Japanese assaulted Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, Miller was prohibited from serving
in battle since he was dark. Rather, he worked in the cafeteria. Yet, when the bombs dropped on
his ship, Miller rushed to the deck, moved the ship s harmed chief out of damage s way, and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Decriminalization
Decriminalization defined as something that before this was illegal become legal. In the other
words, it is to take out criminal punishments for or evacuate legitimate limitations against. It is the
reverse process from the criminalization. Decriminalization basically is one of the term used to
change the rules or law based on current situations. It is technically a term of remove or reduce the
criminal status or act. People always have confusion on the different between decriminalization and
legalisation. The big different between this two term is legalisation will take out or terminated any
law that prohibited on an act or law while decriminalization will only terminated the criminal
charges on the act. In the decriminalization, although an act has been decriminalized, people still
need license or permission on performing it while legalisation once has been approved, there is no
longer law or rules apply on it. There are many countries that has been through decriminalization on

African American Perspective in Early 20th Century America
Throughout the era after the Civil War, Blacks struggled to show themselves and create an identity
outside of the confines of slavery. There were many different ideas that display how Black should
be perceived and how Blacks should carry themselves in order to uplift the race. Uplifting the race
was one of the most influential ideas of the time. Miscegenation, sexuality, and education are just
three of the issues that were influenced by the racial attitudes of the times. Many authors
commented on these issues and the other issues of the time. Nella Larsen, Booker T. Washington,

We make our customs lightly; once made, like our sins, they grip us in bands of steel, we
become creatures of our creations. By one standard the office boy should have never been born.
Yet he is a son of Adam and came into existence in the way ordained by God from the beginning
of the world (Chestnutt, 24). Chestnutt shows the judge in the same struggle that he leaves his
reader feelings. The customs of society say one thing; yet, true seems to be saying another.
Chestnutt leaves his readers with this dichotomy in his book. Chestnutt balances between
Larsen and Washington s views. He makes his reader think though the reasons why or why not
miscegenation should or should not be allowed. Sexuality was also an issue for Blacks in this
time period. Most black women were classified as either a respectable, almost asexual, lady or a
whore. They were classified as a mammy or a jezebel. There was a dichotomy between what
women were allowed to be. Sexual desire needed to be separate from respectability. And
respectability was highly prized. Larsen s character Helga struggles greatly with this dichotomy
between sexual desire and respectability. She has been taught to be a respectable woman in order to
uplift the race and that black women should be perceived in a certain way. Larsen writes of Helga
and Dr. Anderson s conversation about Helga s upbringing. Dr. Anderson says, Perhaps I can best

The World s Oldest Profession For Nothing
Prostitution isn t inherently immoral, any more than running a company like Enron is inherently
immoral. It s how you do it that counts. And the reality is that it will happen anyway. It s not
called the world s oldest profession for nothing. Why not make it, at the least, safe and productive?
JEANNETTE ANGELL of A Wellness Perspective on Prostitution
, Freedom, Religion, and More ,
Seek Wellness, Apr. 30, 2005. Prostitution, known as the world s oldest profession, and it exists
everywhere. In the event you leave the country, and go to a whole new country, there is a
guarantee you would find prostitutes. People say that prostitution is wicked because it is a
disgrace to society, and no one should go into that profession, because it can get the prostitutes into
dangerous situations. One instance of this that no one takes into consideration, that the girls or
guys are making money off of this. If they are making money, then they help the economy the same
way anyone is at their job. Prostitution should be more considered as a legalized job. People will
not stop, so why not take advantage, and make laws to help protect the men and women.
Prostitution is one of the world s oldest professions, and laws prohibiting prostitution may be the
oldest examples of government regulation and government (sex) discrimination (Armentano, 1993).
Prostitution also may be illegal, but if you look hard enough in the streets, you can see them.

Sequels vs. Originals: Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider Man
Some movies are too good to stop at one measly movie. Sequels have been around for decades
and will not stop anytime soon. Many movies are so profitable and successful, it makes sense to
provide a sequel to the fan base. Sequels usually come after movies that are raved by many.
Sequels are usually better than the original film as demonstrated by Sam Raimi s Spider man trilogy.
A sequel normally follows a film that has already been successful. Sequels normally improve
upon originals but do not always pan out as well. One advantage of sequels is the fan base is

The Characteristics Of Ed Gein And The Leatherface
In 1974, director Tobe Hooper revolutionized horror with his film inspired by a true story, THE
TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. Almost immediately after the film s release, rumors began
to circulate that there was an actual chainsaw wielding madman living with his deranged family
in the town of Poth, Texas. The inspired events were also said to have taken place on August
18th, 1973. However, a quick check of that date reveals that the film had just wrapped four days
prior, making it fairly difficult to base a film on an actual event that had yet to occur. Despite this,
there was an actual skin wearing maniac that was the film s inspiration.
He may not have had a chainsaw, but serial killer Ed Gein was a key inspiration for the infamous
Leatherface. Born in 1906 in Plainfield, Wisconsin, Ed Gein lived most of his life as a reclusive
loner. Born to an alcoholic father, George, and a fanatically religious mother, Augusta, Ed Gein
suffered heavy psychological and physical abuse at the hands of his parents. Classmates remember
Ed as being reclusive with strange habits. One of his most unnerving habits was to randomly laugh
out loud as though someone had told a joke that only he could hear.

tend to commit crimes that are more violent.
INTRODUCTION:
In today s society, we regard the crime as a number one social problem facing us. The level of
crime can be helpful to understand the sense of well being of a society. Many people believe
crime occurs differently in each society based on its citizen s conditions of living. Income
inequality is one factor related to quality of life and higher rates of crimes. Economic struggle and
poverty may lead to other problems such as drug abuse, dissolution of family bonds, and even
crimes. When communities with higher economic problems don t have access to enough resources
to educate their youth, they cannot fight the social disorganization. People living in poverty are
disadvantaged and cannot sustain their basic needs and therefore, they tend to commit violent
crimes in order to make money to sustain these needs. Since they do not have any educational

The Effects Of Parenting Styles On Children
As the social, emotional, and academic effects vary in children and adolescent, the choice of
parenting style should be an informed decision to ensure their individual needs are met. Some
children raised in dramatically different environments can later grow up to have very similar
personalities. Conversely, children who are raised in the same environment can grow up to have
opposite personalities. Despite these inconsistencies, researchers have found a direct correlation
between parenting styles and the effects these styles have on children. Research has identified four
main parenting styles based on two aspects of parenting behavior, control, and warmth. When these
two aspects of parenting behavior merge, four primary parenting styles occur, authoritative,
authoritarian and permissive. Authoritarian parenting provides strict parental control with little to
no warmth. Authoritative parenting provides intermediate control and warmth, and permissive
parenting provides little parental control and considerable warmth. Each of these parenting styles
has a direct... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because the symptoms of such disabilities can vary significantly from person to person.
Children with Autism, for instance, may exhibit symptoms that can range from the avoidance of
eye contact and an intolerance of changes in routine to self injury and aggression. Thus, the best
parenting styles for the child can vary by severity of the impairment. While authoritative parenting
has shown to increase academic achievement, and alleviate attachment disorders in those with
disorders such as non clinical autism (Rutgers), this may not be a viable option for children with
more severe symptoms. In cases like these, the need concern for physical safety may override the
need to academic success. Unfortunately, due to the complexities of these illnesses, there is just no

Comparing Dracula And The Dearg-Due By Bram Stoker
Dracula still maintains a strong connection to modern day readers through its similarities to
female vampire myths from Europe, most of them including the male characters dominating the
females. The Dearg Due, an Irish vampire, is an example of a creature similar to those in Stoker
s novel. According to Kim, an author on Got Ireland, the Dearg Due is a legendary beauty, with
blood red lips and pale blonde hair, however, before turning into a monster, she had been given to
a cruel man and suffered terrible mental and physical abuse at the hands of her new husband. 1 As
a mortal, she had no influence on her life, and was married off to a abominable man just so her
power hungry father could earn more money and a higher social status.... Show more content on

Stoker s character Dracula may have extraordinary powers, but he also has many weaknesses,
leaving him with a vulnerable aspect. Van Helsing explains that there are ways to defeat the
Count such as: the garlic that we know of... this symbol, my crucifix... [and] the branch of wild
rose on his coffin (Stoker 256, XVIII).2 Dracula is powerless when faced by these objects, giving
Van Helsing and his group the chance to destroy him. These items are able to block off a vampires
powers and protect citizens from the attacks. Similarly, the Baobhan Sith, a banshee like vampire
from the Scottish Highlands, also has weaknesses. They like to prey on unsuspecting travelers,
mostly men, who wish for female company. As stated on Real Unexplained Mysteries, in a myth
about the Baobhan Sith, it is stated that they will dance with men and then start to shriek
uncontrollably... and suddenly attack, but in the story, one man gets lucky and is able to run away
between two of the horses... to seek refuge between as they were all wearing iron horseshoes. 3 The
Baobhan Sith are afraid of iron and are unable to get past it. Both creatures, Count Dracula and the
Baobhan Sith, are powerful, but also have weaknesses that prevent them from hurting people. These
features make the characters more authentic and allow the

Educational Leadership Styles Paper
The capacity and implementation of various educational leadership styles has been critical to the
organizational and instructional makeup of educational institutions since their inception. Various
types of leadership have developed over the past 60 years and unique trends have emerged in the
pursuit of creating and implementing changes in process and philosophy; specifically, improving
teacher collaboration. Leadershipstyles frequently identified as charismatic, transactional,
transformational, shared/distributed, and self/laissez faire have emerged at the forefront of
educational leadership theory. The role of the administrator (principal) in secondary schools and
their exhibited leadership styles set the tone for staff and students in their... Show more content on

However, this is not always the case as some studies showed employee uncertainty and resistance
against this type of discretion at work (Cordery, Morrison, Wright Wall, 2010; Maynard, Mathieu,
Marsh, and Ruddy, 2007). As a result, follower s perceptions of leaders might not always be
positive, and they raise the question of whether empowering leadership might sometimes be
perceived as laissez faire leadership, leading to a less effective leadership perception (Wong

Working with Internet does not mean just browsing www and sending and receiving e mails. The
Basic Structure of the Internet was developed through last 30 years of existence of the Internet. The
Internet is a heterogeneous worldwide network consisting of a large number of host computers and
local area networks. The Internet uses the TCP/IP suite of protocols. This allows the integration of
a large number of different computers into one single network with highly efficient communication
between them. This way, the user can access information on all kinds of host computers from a

Listserv, the most popular program for managing discussion lists also handles subscription via
mail messages, archives incoming messages, and allows users to retrieve these and other
archived files. Thousands of discussion lists focusing on all kinds of topics exist on the Internet.
Topics range from various hobbies, political discussions to operational aspects of different
computer systems and research questions. For the user, discussion lists are an easy way to
identify and contact a large number of people with similar interests. A discussion list can also be
considered as a worldwide forum for expressing views and discussing opinions.
While messages are automatically sent to all subscribed users in the case of a discussion list
and one has to be subscribed in order to receive the messages, messages in Netnews are
distributed between a net of servers. Messages are organized in a hierarchy of newsgroups.
Incoming messages are stored for a particular period in a publicly accessible area. Each user can
connect to this area, browse through the stored messages, and respond to any one of them. This
way Netnews allows for a better overview of ongoing discussions but requires the user to actively
connect to the respective area.
One of the reasons for the creation of a computer network like the Internet was to give users access
to remote computers and to allow them to transfer files to and from this machine. These are typical

Introduction. Civil Engineering Is A Professional Engineering
Introduction
Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design of the physical
and naturally built environment. One aspect of civil engineering is water resource engineering.
Water resource engineering is a specific kind of civil engineering that involves the design of new
systems and equipment that help manage the human water resources. In simpler terms water
resources engineering is concerned with the collection and management of water. It particularly
concerns the quality and quantity of water being managed in both underground and above
resources. Since ancient times we civil engineers have been refining and expanding the concept of

The dams built for irrigation are often diversion dams, which are usually constructed to stop the
natural course of the river for sending the water to a different place of need. To control flooding
in certain areas, detention dams are constructed to either stop or slow the flow of the water in a
river or stream. These dams have been constructed worldwide for drinking water, flood control,
drinking water, hydropower, irrigation, navigation, and water storage. Structures such as towers
or bridges do not even experience a fraction of the forces acting on that of a dam holding back
the flow of a river or a lake. There are numerous factors one must consider before the construction
of a dam. The basic concept that one must understand before the construction of a dam, are the
forces that act on a dam. There are tremendous forces acting on the material used in the
construction of the dam. For example, concrete is an essential material for the construction of a
dam and factors such as its compressive strength must be considered when a huge mass of water
acts on it. Furthermore, to construct any dam, engineers must consult a variety of criteria. For
example, flowing water tends to erode everything eventually no matter the material whether it be
soil or the concrete used to construct the dam. Civil engineers who specialize in water resource
engineering are tasked with designing a dam that can

  • 2. Summary Of John Muir s Save The Redwoods John Muir, a brilliant Transcendentalist, has written hundreds of enlightening environmental essay to emphasize the adamant need to save these sacred kings of the forests, the Redwoods. Within Muir s vivid and emotional entries, specifically Save the Redwoods , John utilizes rhetorical devices such as personification, analogy, and Religious allusion in order to express the vital need to save the trees. In the serious yet optimistic journal entry, John Muir employs the idea of spiritual duty, and personification, as humans to preserves the continuously killed Redwoods. Muir has seen the death of hundreds of trees and knows the irreparable damage it could cause if the damage continues, ...kings of the forest, the noblest of a noble race, rightly belong to the world, but as they are in California we cannot escape responsibility as their guardians (paragraph, 6). The author s use of noblest of a noble race and responsibility as their guardian evokes an intense need to not only protest the killing of these giants but to nurture and advocate respect for the Redwoods. As humans, Muir demands an explanation as to our mistreatment of the sacred creatures and will take no other answers than of one that demonstrates total and complete love for the trees. He expects those who are damaging God s prized forests to questions themselves and to examine their actions so that they can correct their mistakes. Another example of personification that appeals to the trees is John Muir s description of the insurgence of rebellion against the murder of the trees, and the rejoicing of the behemoths, ... this righteous uprising in defense of God s trees in the midst of exciting politics and wars... and every Sequoia... has heard the good news and is waving its branches for joy (paragraph, 1). Oliver, an orphan grows up in a workhouse in severe and harsh conditions. Placed under the subjugation of the upper class, Oliver is taken for granted to be corrupt and immoral because he is unlearned and poor. However, this stereotype is soon faulted when Oliver turns out to be an innocent and sympathetic boy whose fate is inadvertently tragic. Even with such disadvantages, it is Oliver s looks of innocence and lack of evil inside him that enables him to rise out from poverty. His innocence is the tool that allows Oliver to escape life at the bottom of society. It is also the trait that brings many people to pity him and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Little Oliver Twist lay on his back on the pavement with his shirt unbuttoned and his temples bathed with water, his face a deadly white, and a cold tremble convulsing his whole frame. Poor boy, poor boy! said Mr. Brownlow, bending over him. Call a coach, somebody, pray. Directly! A coach was obtained, and Oliver, having been carefully laid on one seat, the old gentleman got in and sat himself on the other. (107). When Mr. Brownlow first sees Oliver, he pities Oliver because he is a wretched child manipulated by the crime world. Unlike a criminal, Oliver has the look of innocence that forces others to pay sympathy toward him and treat him with gentleness and kindness. It is with this example that shows that Dickens is protesting that not everyone who is poor and helpless deserve what they receive. Instead he is saying that everyone should be allowed a second chance to redeem themselves. In this case, Oliver s appearance has allowed him to be taken care by Brownlow himself. Instead of being left to die on the streets of London, Oliver is taken to the estate of a very wealthy man to be nursed back to health. With this occurrence, Dickens has shown foresight of Oliver beginning his journey to trace his family lineage and claim his family s name and therefore rise up in society. After Oliver is nurtured back to health by Mr. Brownlow, he is sent to return books back to the library. When he accidentally makes a wrong turn, he encounters Bill and Nancyand they ... It attempts to answer the question, How does the universe work? , by looking at everything in the universe and working to understand it. Cosmology has always been studied, however in the last 20 years, technology has given scientists new information and allowed for an increasing knowledge of the structure and history of the universewith the ultimate goal of finding a theory that can explain everything. The Copernican Revolution was the beginning of modern cosmology. It was the time when the geocentric model of the solar system was disproved, opening up the possibilities that explained the universe. Newton s Laws provided another piece of the cosmology puzzle and gave today s scientists the laws they must work with to explain the universe. Albert Einstein provided yet another theory the universe must operate on, giving scientists even more boundaries for whatever discoveries they make. With the modern addition of advanced telescopes, today s scientists are able to explain the vastness of the universe, as well as how galaxies, stars, planets, and all the other matter that makes up the universe. How Is Imagery Used In The Renaissance Imagery during the English Renaissance was used by cavalier and metaphysical poets in order to portray their message, communicate easily to the readers, and reveal their personal lives and opinions through word choice and figurative language. Imagery was used by poets like Ben Jonson, George Herbert, and John Milton in order to convey complex messages through the comparison of spirituality and the physical world in a way that everyday people could relate to and understand. The cavalier poets came from the subservient class of the 17th century, who lived under the rule of King Charles I a monarch known for his enforcement of the creation and appreciation of art. In the case at hand the victim was accused of agitating and shouting at the offender before the throwing of the bottle. However, there has been much debate and criticism concerning victimology as it can provide arguments which blame victims for their fate. The fact subjects of crime are called victims even could imply passivity, or their cooperation. In early publications by Mendelsohn, it is clear that he has the intention to partially defend the offender and transfer the blame partially onto the victim for their actions, by drawing attention to the victims involvement .This attitude towards victimology can create an overlap of victims and offenders, resulting in victim blame. In a study carried out by Kris Henning and Robert Holdford in 2006, they investigate the attributions of blame in the crimes of 2,824 male probationers convicted of a domestic assault against a partner . Two thirds of the men attributed greater blame to partner characteristics, rather than their own. This is frequently seen in the case of sexual abuse cases, where the victim s characteristics are seen to be an attributing factor to their abuse. Similarly to the racial makeup within its schools, the percentages of Asian and white people are high for the county overall, in relation to others nearby (L.A. Times Data Desk, 2017). Historically, the United States has directly tied its public education system to income because a substantial portion of school funding is raised through local tax revenue (Owens, Reardon, Jencks, 2016, p. 1161). Some states can help offset discrepancies, but others are completely dependent on the value of local property and income levels. Thus we find situations like Rancho Palos Verdes, where wealth is necessary to afford homes and the cost of living, and nearby Long Beach, where families are far more likely to be able to live within their means. Often, affluent counties claim that affordable housing brings no net benefits to the community and hurts property values (Mueller, 2007, p. 1). The benefits, however, are often overlooked and can be particularly impactful in educational spaces without which would be severely lacking in an income segregated system. The complexity of the paintings and painter is in parallel with our understanding of the world and god or creator. It prompts a question though. Are we blind to our own reality never realizing that we are just one paintingwithin another and clueless about what is beyond our own frame? While a final answer to these debates was not necessarily given because no one can truly discover the answer, the story did propose an attitude or mindset that we should adopt leading to a better understanding of the issues at hand. Many members of each caste, the Alldunns, Halfies, and Sketchies, simply accepted the way things were and assumed the painter made everything a certain way for a reason. Some thought the painter would return to finish his work; others cursed the painter for being so cruel as to leave work unfinished and allow such inequality; yet, even others thought the painter would not return and did not care about them. The Alldunns even used this idea to discriminate against those they deemed incomplete and unworthy of joining them in the castle. There are many different methods of testing, usually done with a blood sample. Other methods include diagnostic testing, carrier testing, prenatal testing, pre implantation genetic testing, newborn screening, pharmacogentic testing, and a few others. DNAhas about 12 million single nucleotide polymorphisms and thousands of copy number variants, most of which are not harmful. Sometimes these mutations in genes can cause genetic disorders that end up altering or inhibiting protein function. GeneTherapy focuses on correcting the mutated genes usually by inserting a normal gene into the genome. Researchers treat these diseases this way by repairing dysfunctional gene or by providing copies of the missing gene. They isolate the normal DNA and package it into a vector. Other ways include replacing the abnormal gene with a normal one, repair the mutated gene, or altering the regulation of a certain gene. • 25. Fish Cheeks By Amy Tan Amy Tan s short story, Fish Cheeks, outlines the general idea of self acceptance. As the narrator, fourteen year old Tan declares her love for her minister s son, Robert, who unlike herself, is as white as Mary in the manger (Tan 1). This crush is anything but healthy, primarily because Tan is reluctant to reveal her true self to him. This hesitance she portrays is strikingly recognizable in the teenagers of today s world. Amy Tan s story, Fish Cheeks, is significant to the adolescents of today s society through the overall structure, quality, and applicability of the piece as the struggle to accept oneself as an individual is still as present as it ever was. As the story develops, the reader s thoughts are guided by the structure of the piece in a way that Tan is able to share an important lesson through the form of a personal narrative. The opening text immediately introduces the narrator and her insecurities as she wishes for a slim new American nose (Tan 1). The story initially takes on a negative tone as Tan proceeds to have a negative outlook throughout the entire evening. Her overwhelming anxiety can almost be felt by the reader as she worries what Robert will think of her noisy Chinese relatives who lacked proper American manners and overall shabby Chinese Christmas (Tan 1). With the tone set, Tan continues to amplify each dreadful detail of her family s traditional Christmas Eve dinner. This includes the actual meal, that of which appeared to be ... • 28. Point Of View Interpretation In Henry James s The Turn Of... In The Turn of the Screw, Henry James utilizes many aspects of the point of view technique, yet his most palpable use comes in the form of the first person narrator. The use of the first person narrator with the governess enables James to present the reader with many opportunities to question the validity of her account, while at the same time adding to the complexity of the story. Due to James clever use of the first person narrator, there is not necessarily a right or wrong way to observe the governess s accounts, and more importantly, there is evidence throughout the text that could substantiate both interpretations of the story. Perhaps the most important part of this technique comes in the form of where James compels the reader to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While one could certainly believe that the governess tells the truth in this instance, Flora s reaction paves the way for the interpretation that the governess is insane. The governess illustrates this notion when she writes, Then, after this deliverance, which might have been that of a vulgarly pert little girl in the street, she hugged Mrs. Grose more closely and buried in her skirts the dreadful little face. In this position she launched an almost furious wail (70). If one believes the governess, then Flora s tantrum could be seen as a ploy to appear normal in the eyes of Mrs. Grose, yet the fact that the governess is a biased narrator allows the reader to conclude that perhaps Flora genuinely fears the governess. Another instance where one could either confirm or question the governess s visions of ghosts comes at the end with the final appearance of Peter Quint. When the governess tries to compel Miles to admit that he sees Quint, she says, Whom do you mean by he? In response Miles utters, Peter Quint you devil (85). Again, from the governess point of view, this scene could validate the visions of ghosts throughout the novel, yet due to the ambiguity and bias that comes with the first person narrator s account, one could also think otherwise. From the other point of view, one could interpret this scene as Miles expressing his anger at Peter Quint for driving the governess insane despite the ghost not actually ... Prostitution, known as the world s oldest profession, and it exists everywhere. In the event you leave the country, and go to a whole new country, there is a guarantee you would find prostitutes. People say that prostitution is wicked because it is a disgrace to society, and no one should go into that profession, because it can get the prostitutes into dangerous situations. One instance of this that no one takes into consideration, that the girls or guys are making money off of this. If they are making money, then they help the economy the same way anyone is at their job. Prostitution should be more considered as a legalized job. People will not stop, so why not take advantage, and make laws to help protect the men and women. However, this is not always the case as some studies showed employee uncertainty and resistance against this type of discretion at work (Cordery, Morrison, Wright Wall, 2010; Maynard, Mathieu, Marsh, and Ruddy, 2007). As a result, follower s perceptions of leaders might not always be positive, and they raise the question of whether empowering leadership might sometimes be perceived as laissez faire leadership, leading to a less effective leadership perception (Wong Giessner, ... Richard Zuber DL Efficient and Effective Self Expression BC302 Bill Bagatelas Research Paper 11/24/2001 Working with Internet does not mean just browsing www and sending and receiving e mails. The Basic Structure of the Internet was developed through last 30 years of existence of the Internet. The Internet is a heterogeneous worldwide network consisting of a large number of host computers and local area networks. The Internet uses the TCP/IP suite of protocols. This allows the integration of a large number of different computers into one single network with highly efficient communication between them. This way, the user can access information on all kinds of host computers from a desktop PC, Macintosh, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Listserv, the most popular program for managing discussion lists also handles subscription via mail messages, archives incoming messages, and allows users to retrieve these and other archived files. Thousands of discussion lists focusing on all kinds of topics exist on the Internet. Topics range from various hobbies, political discussions to operational aspects of different computer systems and research questions. For the user, discussion lists are an easy way to identify and contact a large number of people with similar interests. A discussion list can also be considered as a worldwide forum for expressing views and discussing opinions. While messages are automatically sent to all subscribed users in the case of a discussion list and one has to be subscribed in order to receive the messages, messages in Netnews are distributed between a net of servers. Messages are organized in a hierarchy of newsgroups. Incoming messages are stored for a particular period in a publicly accessible area. Each user can connect to this area, browse through the stored messages, and respond to any one of them. This way Netnews allows for a better overview of ongoing discussions but requires the user to actively connect to the respective area. One of the reasons for the creation of a computer network like the Internet was to give users access to remote computers and to allow them to transfer files to and from this machine. These are typical demands for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Introduction. Civil Engineering Is A Professional Engineering Introduction Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design of the physical and naturally built environment. One aspect of civil engineering is water resource engineering. Water resource engineering is a specific kind of civil engineering that involves the design of new systems and equipment that help manage the human water resources. In simpler terms water resources engineering is concerned with the collection and management of water. It particularly concerns the quality and quantity of water being managed in both underground and above resources. Since ancient times we civil engineers have been refining and expanding the concept of this aspect of water resources engineering. About 70% of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dams built for irrigation are often diversion dams, which are usually constructed to stop the natural course of the river for sending the water to a different place of need. To control flooding in certain areas, detention dams are constructed to either stop or slow the flow of the water in a river or stream. These dams have been constructed worldwide for drinking water, flood control, drinking water, hydropower, irrigation, navigation, and water storage. Structures such as towers or bridges do not even experience a fraction of the forces acting on that of a dam holding back the flow of a river or a lake. There are numerous factors one must consider before the construction of a dam. The basic concept that one must understand before the construction of a dam, are the forces that act on a dam. There are tremendous forces acting on the material used in the construction of the dam. For example, concrete is an essential material for the construction of a dam and factors such as its compressive strength must be considered when a huge mass of water acts on it. Furthermore, to construct any dam, engineers must consult a variety of criteria. For example, flowing water tends to erode everything eventually no matter the material whether it be soil or the concrete used to construct the dam. Civil engineers who specialize in water resource engineering are tasked with designing a dam that can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
