Therefore, more than 160 governments met in Tokyo in 1997 to draft the Tokyo Portal to advocate
reduction of GHG emission and set emission reduction targets.
As an important construction material, the Portland cement has been widely used in construction
industry around the world. The Portland cement clinker is made from calcinations of limestone and
siliceous materials where de carbonation occurs. The reaction:
C_a гЂ–COгЂ—_3вџ¶C_a O+гЂ–COгЂ—_2
The production of Portland cement is high energy consumption and produce large amount
emission of CO2. Previous research indicates that 0.98kg of CO2 will be created by production of
1kg of Portland cement, including 0.53g from decarbonisation, 0.33g from burning process plus
0.12g from generation of electricity power required. Therefore, for every ton of cement produced,
an approximately equal amount of carbon dioxide is relapsed in to atmosphere [2й їдё‰]. The
world cement industry contributes 7% of total CO2 emission [3]. This leads to the research of
seeking more environmental friendly cements. One of these alternative materials is alkali activated
slag (AAS) cement. Comparing with Ordinary Portland cement (OPC), the AAS has is own
advantages. Firstly, it uses ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) as the binder material of
concrete, which is a by product from industry production. Secondly, AAS cement has low energy
cost and low GHGs emissions. Finally, AAS concrete has excellent engineering

Report On Orchestra Concert

MUS 119 Report for the 2016.10.29 Concert This concert is the first Symphony Orchestra
concert in my life, and shows me what Western classical music likes. Before it, I do not have
many concert experiences, except watching Canton opera, which is totally different from
Orchestra few times. Therefore, I do not think I really enjoy the concert and get all the ideas
from composers. In the later part of the paper I will try my best to analysis Mysteries of the
Macabre and On a Sufficient Condition for the Existence of Most Specific Hypothesis, and
summary my feeling about these two pieces. Mysteries of the Macabre is an opera that pretty
different from what I used to expect for an symphony. The way I used to be in touch with symphony
is movie background music, which is always majestic. However, Mysteries of the Macabre shows
me a different face of symphony. At the beginning, the singer walks casually and blows bubble gum
bubble after the conductor walks on stage. This detail implies the character is a rebellious girl, and
the piece coming would be unusual compares to the traditional operas. Then, the conductor
outstretch his hand to take the girl s bubble gum away, showing that the conductor has no idea to
control the character as controlling the rest of the orchestra, which leads to the curiosity of the
interaction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Compare to the others, Sinfonia is more likely the one I expected to be a symphony, but it seems
to beyond the level I am currently able to enjoy. The feeling is like watching a couple of people
play musical instrument in front of you, hearing some voice from the stage, but cannot relate them
together. Despite that, this is really a great experience to learn about Western music, which is
completely different from what I familiar with. I hope the next time attending a concert, I will be
able to enjoy the entire

Theme Of Hally In Athol Fugard s Master Harold
It s not fair, is it ... What, chum ... a nigger s arse ... and then we both have a good laugh (55).
Hally, a young, white teenager in Apartheid Era South Africa tells this joke to Sam, his black
friend and father figure, almost irreparably ruining their relationship in Athol Fugard s 1982
play, Master Harold ... and the boys. Sam and Willie, another middle aged black man, work for
Hally s mother at her Tea Shop while pursuing amateur dance on the side. Willie isn t as close to
Hally as Sam is, nor is he as wise, and his broken relationship with his dance partner, Hilda, is
analogous to Hally s troubles with his own father, who is an alcoholic cripple. These characters all
have grievous flaws that appear nearly irredeemable at first. In his play, Athol Fugard conveys that
it is never too late to change for the better using symbolism, metaphor, and dynamic characters. The
author uses a park bench to symbolize racism, but Sam uses it to explain the possibility of Hally s
redemption. The bench is where Hally sat after Sam took him kite flying in the park; Sam does
not sit down, instead leaving because he had work to do (30). It becomes obvious that the bench
represents racism when Sam reveals it was a Whites Only bench, and that s why he couldn t stay
with Hally (58). Hally s ignorance towards the whites only sign serves as a parallel to his naivety
about the injustice in the world, as shown on page 20, when he tells Sam, You ve never been a slave,

Ernest Hemingway Symbolism
Ernest Hemingway uses symbolism in a lot of different ways in this book, but one of the most
distinguishable ways he uses symbolism is to try and represent women and men through
different characters in the book. Early in the book when the old man is on the boat he starts to
think about the ocean. He brings up the fact that he thinks about the ocean as la mar, which is
the feminine form of the ocean in Spanish. On page 30 he says and if she did wild or wicked
things it was because she could not help them. I feel like this could be a negative thing or a
positive thing. It could be negative in saying women are kind of evil, but it could be positive
saying that a lot of the time it is not the person s fault. In the very beginning of the book

Music, The Orchestra, And The Romantic Symphony
Since the beginning of the semester, I have learned three concepts about music in western
civilization. The 3 concepts I have learned is elements of music, the orchestra, and the romantic
symphony. Theses concept are very interesting to me because I don t have any type of musical
background and I got the chance to learn about how music really started. There are many elements I
learn when it comes to making an orchestraand composing a music program. An orchestra is a
group of musicians that come together to make background music for a TV show or movie.
During the class, I learn that they also provide concerts, ballets, and opera to the public. According
to English online.at The word orchestra was first used by the ancient Greeks and meant the front
part of a stage. During the Middle Ages, it also included the musicians on the stage. The orchestra
has a lot of history that goes back to the late 6th and early 7th century. The orchestra group was
organized by the kings and queens of Italian and French churches. They used string instruments to
perform at dance parties, ballet, and operas. This is fascinating that the orchestra music goes back
as far as the late 6th century. I could see how Beethoven, Smetana, Tchaikovsky and among other
have made amazing orchestral music and how they were influenced by it. When the orchestra is
playing it could have 10 or more instruments. During class, I learn that when we talk about the
orchestra it usually means a symphony orchestra. A

Beauty Is A Timeless Obsession
Beauty is a timeless obsession. In these days, physical beauty is paraded and idolised. The
desire in pursuing a beautiful face and the dream body figure can be seen as a needs in an
individual s life that must be fulfilled accordingly. The beauty obsession in human s life has
already started back in 1400 BC, whereby it is believed that people especially women who lived
during the ancient years were exposed to beauty. All women from back then had some sort of
regimen to maintain their beauty and their beauty ritual maybe considered as ultra luxurious as the
beauty products were invented from natural ingredients such as milk, almond oils and honey to
maintain their beauty. They were really depending on ingredients which can be found in nature. As
the beauty care has evolved over the years, people is now served with dozens of brands with

The Event Of Spotlight Dance Academy
40 individuals were a part of Spotlight s outstanding production on February 6th, 2016. Each
year, Spotlight Dance Academy has a Kick Off event for the purpose of performing all the
routines for their competition season. This event is reserved for their elite troupe dancers to
evince their hard work and takes place in Grand Haven High School s performing arts center. An
event like this allows for the patrons to be entertained and the performers to express themselves
while participating in a sport they enjoy. For weeks in advance, my friends and I were planning
our car pools to support our friend. The day of the event, we all met and traveled in a few cars
down to Grand Haven High School, including a small detour to Starbucks. Once we arrived, we
had to wait in line for the doors to open. It was general admission so we got there early to ensure
all 15 of us could sit together. While standing in line, I began to observe the people. Surprisingly,
there was a plethora of people at this event, including parents, grandparents, and close friends.
Clearly, the people who were in attendance were here to see a specific individual. Many of them
carried flowers or signs to support their dancer. This created a celebratory and joyful atmosphere.
Soon, the doors opened and we were allowed to choose our seats. We were some of the first to be
seated so I continued to watch the various supporters file into the auditorium. While waiting for the
show to start, I was taking in my surroundings.

Compare and Contrast the Attitudes and Values of the Two...
Compare and contrast the attitudes and values of the two speakers of the poems and how the poets
have used language to convey these between  To His Coy
Mistress” by Andrew Marvel and  My Last
Duchess” by Robert Browning Both the poems have the theme of love, written
from a man’s point of view, and explores the way men treat woman in
relationships. The former does this by a male narrator writing a poem to a female, using imagery
to entice her. The latter by using a duke, explaining the story of what happened to his previous
wife whilst looking at her picture. Both the poems use imagery and other poetic devices but in
different ways. The first uses them more often to impress her. The second uses them in a... Show

This shows he knows how to write a love poem and he again he has all the right techniques for
persuading a person. The second poem does also use imagery, however in a different way and for
a different purpose. The narrator is describing the duchess to the emissary â€Å
That’s my last duchess painted on the wall”. This
shows he is only describing the painting but as he is using the imagery he describes what she
was like and how she made him angry. However as he describes her it makes her seem like she is
just an object, which she was to him. This is his view of woman, that they belong to a man
which was very common belief at that time. From the poetic devices used their attitudes are
different because in the first he shows his sensitive side and tries to put a bit of romance into it.
However the imagery in the second goes against him as he believes that she was his object and
belonged to him. In both poems there is the recurrent theme of irony. In  To His
Coy Mistress” the poem’s entire first section is ironic
in the sense that the speaker knows he isn’t being genuine. The speaker
uses words to his advantage and we can take little of what he says to be truthful. In Line 1,
Had we but world enough, and time”. The first section of
the poem is a series of hyperbolic statements meant to impress and flatter the reader but the

Transformational Learning Within The Student Athlete
Recent studies have demonstrated the powerful impact of transformational learning on feelings of
cynicism among college students (Duarte, 2010). Transformational learning within the student
athlete population has not been empirically studied, although the potential benefits are enormous as
student athletes have been found to experience feelings of cynicism throughout their collegiate
careers, despite initial feelings of optimism (Adler Adler, 1985). The commercialized nature of
intercollegiate athletics today presents a unique environment in which to implement effective
studentathlete focused career development interventions. Student athletes face developmental
difficulties unique to the student athlete experience within a socially, athletically, and academically
micromanaged context (Duarte, 2010). Transformational learningcan exist as a byproduct of
emancipatory learning, which can help student athletes navigate the demands of conflicting roles,
reflect critically, and negotiate profound transitions. Transformational learning has the potential to
enhance student athlete specific career development initiatives. The barriers of transformational
learning among the student athlete population will be examined within a social, developmental,
and psychological context. The Five Step Career Planning Strategy considers all aspects of an
athlete s life, which may help student athletes balance their conflicting roles, while encouraging
perspective transformation (Stambulova,

Literary Analysis Of Debra Marquart s The Horizontal World
The upper Midwest is a region often viewed as unimportant or boring due to its seemingly endless
plains and uneventful daily life. In her memoir, The Horizontal World, Debra Marquart challenges
this view to show her fondness of the upper Midwest. By using techniques including juxtaposition,
realism, and references to well known people/works, Marquart effectively manipulates her
audience to agree with her perception of the region. Juxtapositioning is typically used in a narrative
to show multiple events occurring at the same time or contrasting views which reveal a claim. In
this text, Marquet employs a creative use of the technique by using both real events and referring to
texts about the region in comparison to one another. For example, Marquart compares Garrison
Keillors Lake Wobegon, in which she references, where all the women are strong, all the men are
good looking, and all the children are above average with the Coen Brothers , Fargo, which she
reminds the audience is, the macabre land of murder by woodchipper. By comparing these two
dramatically contrasting works, Marquart places the idea in the audience s head that this could be a
region containing vast stories and interesting people. In addition, both works are well known,
giving the region a sense of importance. Marquart continues to manipulate the audience in the
following paragraph when positioning the layout of the land with the opinions of the earliest
assessors. By placing, easy inclines and

Jfk Inaugural Address Rhetorical Analysis
On a cold January afternoon in 1961 John Fitzgerald Kennedy delivered one of the shortest but
most empowering inaugural addresses. Kennedy won by the smallest margin ever and to this day
was the youngest and the only Roman Catholic ever elected U.S. president. With the victory of
World War II behind the US and the fear of nuclear warfare with the Soviet Union looming
Kennedy faced a difficult task. Kennedy was faced with the task of convincing the American
people that he was fit to be leader. John F. Kennedys use of rhetoricdevices and persuasive appeals
made in his Inaugural Address convince the citizens of his ability to be chief executive. One of
the rhetoric devices used often in Kennedy s speech was the use of parallel structures. A parallel
structure also called parallelism is defined as the repetition of a chosen grammatical form within
a sentence. An example of a parallel structure would be To show kindness is praiseworthy; to
show hatred is evil . Some examples of parallel structures in Kennedy s inaugural address speech
are: For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of humanpoverty and all
forms of human life. , If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few
who are rich. and Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate . Kennedy
used parallel structures to align related ideas and to make it more understandable for both readers
and listeners. By using a parallel

Essay On Stanislavski
Constantin Stanislavski was known as a Russian direction and stage actor who had discovered
and developed a naturalistic performance technique, which is now known as method acting.
Stanislavski was interested and started to work in the theatre business when he was only 13, and
developed himself into becoming a director (Bishop and Jones). He was born in Moscow, Russia in
1863 and by 1897 he has already developed his own company known as the Moscow Art Theatre,
where performances used method actingand actors were allowed to express their personal
emotions into the piece. Stanislavski was known for his infamous phrases such as stage direction ,
as these were the building blocks of modern opera and helped writers such as Maksim Gorki to
produce his work ( Constantin Stanislavski).
Stanislavski s goals were to make the performances on stage look more natural and more realistic.
This was done through a series of techniques called the the Method ( Constantin Stanislavski ).
Some of these techniques were channeling emotional memory, other were more about the given
circumstance of the character s situation at hand. These techniques were watched and analyzed by
psychiatrists to see how the actors would react. Some techniques such as the emotional ... Show

Killer Whales In The Film Blackfish
SeaWorld: a park known for shows with sea lions, otters, dolphins. Though perhaps the most
important factor is the daily Killer Whale presentations. The first SeaWorld park opened on March
21, 1964 in San Diego. Throughout the years, people have questioned whether SeaWorld is morally
right. In the film Blackfish (2013), former and present SeaWorldtrainers, SeaWorld representatives,
and people who have experienced SeaWorld are interviewed and tell about their stories and
thoughts on SeaWorld. Being emotional, and, at times, graphic, the film is a perfect example of
why Killer Whales should not be kept in captivity for human amusement. In the beginning of the
film, orcas babies and adults are shown being caroled by nets in the ocean. Video... Show more

Some speak of certain attacks and others speak of how the whales were treated in general. One
trainer speaks about how when the whales didn t listen to commands or perform the right tricks, not
one whale was punished, but they all were. Some of the punishments included starving the
whales and isolation. Besides the varies forms of punishments, the trainer spoke about how
being kept captive was a punishment itself. Another trainer told her views on SeaWorld. Issues
pertaining death were pushed aside and appeared not important. The trainer spoke about how
workers at the park weren t told specific news and were kept in the dark. Those with higher
positions at the park kept things from trainers and others who worked at the park, most likely
afraid for news to surface. If news broke about an attack or a death, their revenue would drop and
audience numbers were plummet. By hearing from almost every person that was interviewed that
what SeaWorld did, and still does, is morally wrong, viewers become aware of just how much has

as well. The trauma the whales undergo is presented

Job Experience Essay
Nearly seven years ago, when I started working for the local DirecTV installation company, it
wasn t exactly a dream come true. I had the aptitude for it, having worked previously as a home
theatre installer back in Kansas City, but this job was much easier by comparison. What made this
job less than desirable were the hot attics, damp crawlspaces where I wasn t always the only thing
crawling around and the loose eaves near ideal dish mounting locations that were often home to
swarms of hornets.
Less than a week into the job I was offered a promotion of sorts. They needed inspectors to verify
that things were done correctly at several installation locations each week and they wanted someone

The best part of this situation for me was the pay. I was making $12.50 per inspection. That s
over $1500 per week! Despite the great pay, I had been unemployed for nearly a month before
starting this job and because of tool costs to get started hadn t taken home much during my first
week as an installer. The first paycheck I received had an error in it. I was told by my Manager at
the Paducah Office to call the corporate office and talk to payroll directly and they would handle it.
I regularly heard new employees being told, Call payroll and ask for an advance , not just due to
pay errors, but also to cover the startup costs of tools and ladders. This advice would soon lead to
disaster.
For the first time in several months I was going to Atlanta, Georgia to visit my daughter for the
weekend. I had received one puny paycheck and one nice one, but had spent everything to get
caught up on bills that had accumulated during my unemployment. So, I did what experience
and observation had taught me to do, I called payroll and asked for a relatively small advance to
cover my weekend trip. Without incident a check showed up at the office the next day and my
wife and I were off for a fun weekend with my daughter. It wasn t until late the next week that all
hell began to break loose.

manager inquiring why I had bypassed him and gone

The Importance Of The Arc De Triomphe
The Arc de Triomphe is also another building that attracts many people who would be willing to
be part of the tourists visiting it. It is regarded as one of the most famous monuments around Paris
and is found centrally at the Palace Charles de Gaulle. The arc was established as an honor those
who fought and died for Francein the French Revolutionary as well as the Napoleonic Wars. The
arc also has, inscribed on it, the names of all the victories that France had as well as the names
of the generals who were critical towards ensuring that the country was able to attain the
victories (Duval, 2017.) The arc acts as an important tool for storing the French history. One has
the ability to establish the different issues that the nation has faced, as well as the huge sacrifice
that different people in the country put up towards ensuring that its sovereignty and dignity
would be sustained. It also as a good tool for students of history as it provides them with the
opportunity to gather more insights and facts of the two wars mentioned that France took part in
(Dente Tavasszy, 2016.) They are, therefore, able to determine some of the people who were
critical towards ensuring that the country would have the chance to win the wars and be able to
gain the level of respect it deserved from its peers during the time. The process would also mean
that such learners would be in a position to develop the need to visit other parts of Paris, with the

Emotional Abuse Signs
When you hear the word abuse one might think of a man hitting his wife or girlfriend, a woman
with covered up bruises and physical marks. It is a subject that gets discussed more, something
that is more often shown on popular television shows and movies. But there is another type of
abuse that does not get shown or talked about as much. It is called emotional abuse and just
because it does not show physically in marks or bruises does not make it any less dangerous and
damaging. The first step to addressing this abuse is to understand the signs. You may be
experiencing emotional abuse if your partner calls you names, insults you or puts you down,

Another response why men may not report their abuse is that in one study, it was said that Male
domestic violence victims who come to law enforcement attention are more likely to be future
suspects for domestic violence than female victims (http://www.opdv.ny.gov/, 2016). Another
shocking fact was that subtle psychological abuse is more harmful than either over psychological
abuse or direct aggression (O Leary Mairuo, 2005). It is also suggested that those who are
victims of emotional abuse are more likely to suffer from long term damage to their mental health.
Often times it can take form in depression, post traumatic stress disorder, they may become
suicidal, and can even develop distrust for others (O Leary Mairuo, 2005). Another study also
found that emotional abuse was more common in younger people and is on the rise due to increase
in women being in law enforcement roles, women s empowerment through feminism and while the
rates of men being victims to this abuse is on the rise as previously stated, the rates of women
being emotionally abused are declining, so quite the opposite affect. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov,

Americans love to drive cars with maximum power and automatic transmission. Though these cars
have low fuel efficiency, they are a joy to drive because of automatic transmission. If you drive one

How Does Shirley Jackson Use Foreshadowing In The Lottery
They call it the lottery, but this isn t just any lottery! The Lottery, a short story by Shirley Jackson,
is about a town in the 1950s. The townspeople have a tradition that they call the lottery, which is
actually a sacrificial stoning. They have this tradition because they are crazy and they think that it
helps the crops grow; without it there would be no food. In The Lottery, Shirley Jacksonuses
foreshadowing to add to the shock factor of the terrible ending. In the beginning of the story, the
author uses brief foreshadowing when she describes boys gathering rocks while other people
gather in the townsquare for the lottery. The author writes, Bobby [Martin] and Harry Jones and
Dickie Delacroix...eventually made a great pile of stones

Argument On Fact Constructivism
I don t support fact constructivism because its fallible as its fundamental idea is that we construct
facts and their existence depends upon us meaning even facts that obtained before our existence are
dependent on us. In this essay my primary focus will be evaluating absolute fact
constructivism(chapter 3)and one significant claim as well as an argument for and against it in
order to justify why I don t support fact constructivism.
What we call absolute fact constructivism in essence is a constructivist theses which states that the
existence of facts is dependent solely on humans it also states that the creation of facts by humans
reflect our contingent needs and interests based on societies; this thesis is more or less the opposite

Boghossian refers to this claim that Goodman and Rorty are gesturing at as the Description
Dependence of Facts. Boghossian explains that Description Dependence of Facts is a thesis
which states that all facts are description dependent: there cannot be a fact of the matter as to
how things are with the world independently of our propensity to describe the world as being a
certain way. Once we adopt a particular scheme for describing the world, there then come to be
facts about the world. This thesis is a variation of the view that all facts are mind independent as
only minds can describe the world; Boghossian partly agrees with this view as he does
acknowledge that some facts are indeed mind dependent and he gives examples such as that there
could be no fact such as money if we humans didn t construct that fact; however he believes that
logic cant apply to all facts such as dinosaurs or electrons which don t rely on humans for their
existence. Boghossian has trouble identifying a solid argument for absolute fact constructivism and
this is worsened by the fact that he believes that there is a thesis which is similar to absolute fact
constructivism to an extent but then again the very same thesis supports fact objectivism which
goes against absolute fact constructivism and the result is it weakens the argument for absolute fact
constructivism and makes it seem implausible than it actually is Boghossian calls this thesis Social
Relativity of Descriptions.

Why I Want to Attend Westmont College Essay
Westmont College
Westmont College is a small, liberal arts college located in the beautiful Santa Barbara,
California. The college only offers bachelor s degrees. Westmont is a standard four year college.
They are nondenominational and encourage their students to live out a Christian life. They
supply Christian based studies. An interesting fact is that 78% of financial needs are met!
Serious crime (per 1000 students per year) is a shocking 17.06, drug or weapon incidents are
2.22, and alcohol encounters are 14.83. Santa Barbara is considered a fairly safe place so seeing
these statistics is quite surprising! Admissions at Westmont are highly competitive! You must have

Dean s that gives you $10,000, Provost s that gives you $13,000, President s that gives you
$15,000, and the most special and competitive scholarship is the Monroe scholarship it pays your
whole tuition. Westmont has large selection of majors totaling up to forty five. They have a pre
nursing program and a pre veterinary program, which I am interested in. I really like that
Westmont has so many choices to get a degree in. The collegeis extremely small with 1,346
students, 337 of which are freshman. Since the school is so small the student to teacher ratio is
11:1. I really enjoy this statistic, since I find most my help comes from conversing with my
teachers to learn about the subject more deeply. Having more one on one time with the professors
means any terms that you do not understand you can go over them with your professor privately to
get a better understanding! The small college does not lack in sports. They have twelve league
sports and eleven club sports. Though they do not have intramural sports they make up for it in

From the very commencing of the Church with the flow of contemporary evangelical crusade,
conservative Protestants have splintered, disputed, and shattered the Church, Word, who Jesus, who

all following the second century seemed to not only debate the meanings of the Scriptures, but also
questioned the reality of the Word as well. The 18th century marked the beginning of the great
evangelical revivals surrounded by a number of protestant churches across the western world, in

The Use Of Hyperbole In British Literature
Critical Analysis In this analysis I will be discussing the use of hyperbole throughout British
literature. Hyperbole is defined as an extravagant statement or figure of speech not intended to be
taken literally ( Hyperbole ). The use of this literary device is prevalent throughout early and
middle British literature and even through modern day examples. I believe the use of this literary
device in British literature is due to the fact that religion and the aristocracy were integral parts of
the society from the very beginning. Both of these institutions were constraining and controlling.
The use of hyperboleallowed writers to be able to express their thoughts and opinions without fear
of harsh treatment or negative repercussions. In addition, it was possible for the writers to provide
vivid and visceral descriptions of characters and locations. Hyperbole and hyperbolic language are
both significant characteristics of British literature that transcend history. The first piece of
literature I will be examining is The Wanderer. The Wanderer is a piece of early English literature
that describes the characters experiences with exile and the loss of his material wealth. In this early
English poem, the author uses hyperbolic language to describe the internal feelings of The
Wanderer, in addition to, the physical and temporal experience of the exile itself. In doing so, the
author brings attention to the existential crisis the main character has in losing his gold friend and

Evolution Of Evolution And Genetics
Biologists have been studying evolution and genetics to further advance human knowledge,
discover the human origins, and to eliminate human illnesses. Biologists like Lamark and Darwin
have contributed much knowledge to the biology community and have helped many grasp the idea
of evolution. But there are still many questions left unanswered; regressive evolutionis one of these
puzzling questions left unanswered. Cavefishes may help solve the mystery of why regressive
evolution occurs and biologists have developed to hypothesis to explain this mystery. Additionally,
solving this mystery may further the health of the humanrace to solve eyerelated diseases.
Lamark s theory of use and disuse proposes that an organism s structure will steadily evolve and
adapt to its environment, but only if it is being used frequently. Using giraffes, Lamark explains
that the constant stretching of their necks to reach for higher leafs on trees caused giraffes to
develop their long necks. Similarly, according to Lamark if a structure is no longer being used, it
will slowly vanish over time. But people are quick to dismiss the use and disuse theory because he
mentions that any characteristics that a parent acquires throughout their lifetime will be passed on
to their offspring. This is known to not be true because a parent who loses a limb would not mean
that their offspring would also be missing that same limb. Additionally, the discovery of DNA
disproves Lamark s theory because it shows DNA

Individuality, Equality, And Sameness

What is the differentiation between equality and sameness? How does one s identity effect these
two notions? In Bradbury s and Vonnegut s fictitious stories, The Pedestrian , Fahrenheit 451 , and
Harrison Bergeron , these concepts and their relationship is depicted to the reader in the form of
dystopias. These dystopias may not exist, but these science fictional societies certainly could be

what the bulletin was about, since the announcer, like all announcers, had a serious speech

unfair voice for a woman to use. Her voice was warm, luminous, timeless melody (Kurt Bergeron

best suit a job, characters often take jobs that do not suit them. Not only could this cause a

punished for being different, where there is an absurd idea that it is possible for citizens to have
equality and sameness at the same time, and an environment, where no one is joyful. That is to say,
that sameness is not equality, much less happiness.

another political issue is visa limitations for the reason that in UK and the US, the migration has

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, there are numerous examples that establish what it means to
be part of a community; which proves it exemplifies the important traits shown in a community the
best out of other books read. Throughout the novella, there are countless examples that demonstrate
what it means to be part of a community; this includes friendships, the American dream, and

that their friendship gets stronger day after day. While the Great Depressionwas taking place, Men

Nationalism, a political or social philosophy in which the prosperity of a nation state as an

should be toward the nation state. The love for one s country often reflected dominance and power
as people were able to unite toward common good. Furthermore, republic governments were

The Principals Of Operant Conditioning
The principals of operant conditioning, teaches how having certain coping techniques can
reward certain undesirable behaviors. Conditioning human behavior has been studied for many
years, Psychologists Edward Thorndike and B.F. Skinner, have dedicated the majority of their
lives to the study. Thorndike s theory Law of effect. Thorndike suggests that certain stimuli and
response become connected or dissociated from each other. His experiment worked by placing
a cat in a box, then observing its behavior as it tried to escape and obtain the food on the other
side. He studied several cats and plotted the time it took for them to escape from the puzzle box.
The challenge to get out of the box remained the same, but the amount of time to get out of the
box decreased, and while the animal may have not realized what it was doing, but knew what he
had to do to receive the food. He concluded that animals learn from reward and punishment or trial
and error. The theory of B.F. Skinner is based upon the idea that learning is about change in
behavior. Operant conditioningis learning by consequence. To put it simply, an action which he
rewarded is likely to be repeated along with an action that is punished is less likely to be
repeated. B.F. Skinner introduced a new term into the law of effect known as reinforcement.
Behavior that is reinforced tends to be repeated while behavior which is no reinforced tends to

What Is The Difference Between The Church And The Catholic...
King Henry VIII made many changes like the reformation of England which caused the separation
of Rome and the England Church. In 1534, in England, King Henry founded the Anglican Church.
There were two well known religions, Anglicanism and Catholicism. There were some differences
between the two of these even though they both came from the same kind of christianityand
followed Jesus Christ in Judea. By time, they separated into two different types of Christians. The
Anglicans followed the church of Englandand Catholics believe the seven sacraments.
One of the differences is that the Anglican Church does not support any kind of classification of
ranking that determines the worth of a church or priest over all the others. This rule provides every
church and region much freedom to decide approaches/policies. Every Anglican Church is in the
Communion. Archbishop of Canterbury is classified as one of the highest but that does not give
him the permission and power over churches out of his region.
The Catholic Church has established a habit of classification and ranking. The classification is; the
lowest ones are the parish priests, second the bishops, archbishops, cardinals, and finally the Pope.
The higher the person is classified, the more power he has over the congregations.
Though, there is one main difference between these two different yet similar religions. It is that the
Anglican priests can get married and have a wife and kids but the Catholic priests must

Student s Transition Into Elementary School Essay
A student s transition into elementary school marks a unique gateway into formal schooling that is
encumbered with new demands and susceptible to new influences. Within the past few decades,
researchers have used students school transitions as a context to examine the influence of student
teacher relationships (e.g., Birch Ladd, 1997; Ewing Taylor, 2009; Pianta Stuhlman, 2004). The
quality of these dyadic relationships is an important platform through which teachers instruct
students and students acquire multifaceted knowledge from their teachers (Pianta, 1999).
Researchers suggest that certain aspects of student teacher relationships support and regulate
students development, particularly during the early years (Pianta, 1999). Although these aspects
include teachers instruction (e.g., explicit, systematic, etc.), they also include features of the
classroom environment, such as teachers sensitivity and warmth, responsiveness, and verbal
engagement (Downer, Sabol, Hamre, 2010). When combinations of high quality and supportive
instruction are embedded within students learning, students are able to interact constructively with
their teachers and peers (Gallagher, Kainz, Vernon Feagans, White, 2013). More importantly,
aspects of instructional and classroom environment encourage students to capitalize on available
learning opportunities and to adjust to the expectations of formal schooling (Howes, Phillipsen,
Peisner Feinberg, 2000). Components of

with their music. I will discuss an influential composer and his musical time period, along with
events that helped shape his career. I will also cover a musical period that I believe to be most
important to music history. I would also like to discuss how this course has influenced the way I
listen and hear music. Lastly, I will analyze the aesthetic qualities of a musical selection from
Space Odyssey: 2001.
Wolfgang Amadeus MozartA prolific artist, Austrian composer Wolfgang Mozart created a string
of operas, concertos, symphonies, masses and sonatas that profoundly shaped classical music.
Mozart was born on January 27, 1756, in Salzburg Austria, to Leopold and Maria Perti Mozart. His
father was a successful composer, violinist, and assistant concertmaster at the Salzburg court. His
mother was born to a middle class family of local community leaders. At an earlier age, they

Intelligence Operations of the Offensive and Espionage in...
With the onset of WWI came advancements in several facets of warfare. With new
advancements came new opportunities for schemers to flex their muscles in the world of
espionage and offensive action. This research will focus on the relevant intelligence operations of
the offensive and espionage in naval warfare of WWI. It will concentrate primarily on the
German and British naval initiatives, but will not overlook those of Russia, France, and the
United States. Any and all conjectures made throughout will be made with the consideration of a
given party s incentives to misrepresent as well as the anticipated payoffs ascribed with each
initiated action. The First World War produced a vast increase in the flow of diplomatic as well as

However, he had already done so the previous day. The goal of these initiatives was usually to
attack enemy ships and/or submarines. At the beginning of the Great War, the German Empire
had warships dotting the seas. Many of these cruisers were utilized in the attacks on Allied
merchant ships and submarines. The British Royal Navy continually responded by hunting them
down. Figure A During 1917 the following successful attacks on enemy submarines by British

protect Allied shipments. For instance, the German detached light cruiser SMS Emden, one of the
two Dresden class light cruisers, seized or destroyed fifteen merchantmen and also sunk a Russian
cruiser and a French destroyer at the Battle of Penang. In response to such hostile actions, Britain
instituted a naval blockade on Germany. The initiative proved affective, cutting off logistical
shipments to military and civilian consumers. However, this blockade violated accepted

Theories Of Schizophrenia
For example, term schizophrenia is a disorder in which personal, social, and occupational functional
functioning deteriorates as a result of a disturbed thought process. Moreover, people who have this

an isolated wilderness of unusual perceptions. Couple with schizophrenias symptoms of his

Genes have been known to play an active role in schizophrenia. It is difficult to ascertain the
exact effect because there is heavy variation. Also, people who have a first degree relative
suffering from schizophrenia have 6.5% more chances acquiring it than others. Monozygotic
twins have 40% or more the risk is 13%or more the figures surely look scary to people who have a
history of schizophrenia and given the above facts, a direct relationship between schizophrenia and
genes cannot be ignored.
Additionally, environmental causes. Environmental factors have been found playing a very vital
role in the development of these diseases the living environment of even prenatal stress has been
found as contributory factors. Also, if the mother has been constantly under stress or threat while
expecting, such children have a greater risk of attracting mental disorders or being psychotic.

Gentrification Is A General Term For The Expansion Of...
Gentrification is a general term for the arrival of wealthier people in an existing urban district, a
related increase in rents and property values, and changes in the district s character and culture.
The word draws controversy not only in its definition and meaning but also in the impact it has
among human social life. It is a practice that is of ancient origin and has withstood the challenges
of evolving times and is still practiced in the contemporary world. Proposers and opponents alike of
the gentrifying phenomena take advantage of the numerous myths and misconceptions that
surround the practice to advance their arguments. Urban planners have rooted for the inclusion of
gentrification as one of the pillars of urban growth. With better economic status better roads, better
water supply system, better healthcare, reduced criminal activities and an overall uplifting of the
quality of life economically it is hard to argue against an overall gain from gentrification. Yet with
all this, it has been the source of a lot of widespread animosity between social classes. It has also
been blamed for a lot of cultural values erosion with in some instances complete override of the
indigenous ways of life that the original inhabitants subscribed to. Green development is an urban
development approach that utilizes green infrastructural growth and is aimed at alleviating negative
impacts, or ideally have a net positive impact, on the environmentand nearby ecosystems. Green

Previous research indicates that 0.98kg of CO2 will be created by production of 1kg of Portland cement, including 0.53g from decarbonisation, 0.33g from burning process plus 0.12g from generation of electricity power required. The world cement industry contributes 7% of total CO2 emission [3]. This leads to the research of seeking more environmental friendly cements. One of these alternative materials is alkali activated slag (AAS) cement. Comparing with Ordinary Portland cement (OPC), the AAS has is own advantages. Mysteries of the Macabre is an opera that pretty different from what I used to expect for an symphony. The way I used to be in touch with symphony is movie background music, which is always majestic. However, Mysteries of the Macabre shows me a different face of symphony. At the beginning, the singer walks casually and blows bubble gum bubble after the conductor walks on stage. This detail implies the character is a rebellious girl, and the piece coming would be unusual compares to the traditional operas. Then, the conductor outstretch his hand to take the girl s bubble gum away, showing that the conductor has no idea to control the character as controlling the rest of the orchestra, which leads to the curiosity of the interaction ... Hally, a young, white teenager in Apartheid Era South Africa tells this joke to Sam, his black friend and father figure, almost irreparably ruining their relationship in Athol Fugard s 1982 play, Master Harold ... and the boys. Sam and Willie, another middle aged black man, work for Hally s mother at her Tea Shop while pursuing amateur dance on the side. Willie isn t as close to Hally as Sam is, nor is he as wise, and his broken relationship with his dance partner, Hilda, is analogous to Hally s troubles with his own father, who is an alcoholic cripple. These characters all have grievous flaws that appear nearly irredeemable at first. In his play, Athol Fugard conveys that it is never too late to change for the better using symbolism, metaphor, and dynamic characters. The author uses a park bench to symbolize racism, but Sam uses it to explain the possibility of Hally s redemption. The bench is where Hally sat after Sam took him kite flying in the park; Sam does not sit down, instead leaving because he had work to do (30). It becomes obvious that the bench represents racism when Sam reveals it was a Whites Only bench, and that s why he couldn t stay with Hally (58). The 3 concepts I have learned is elements of music, the orchestra, and the romantic symphony. Theses concept are very interesting to me because I don t have any type of musical background and I got the chance to learn about how music really started. There are many elements I learn when it comes to making an orchestraand composing a music program. An orchestra is a group of musicians that come together to make background music for a TV show or movie. During the class, I learn that they also provide concerts, ballets, and opera to the public. According to English online.at The word orchestra was first used by the ancient Greeks and meant the front part of a stage. During the Middle Ages, it also included the musicians on the stage. The orchestra has a lot of history that goes back to the late 6th and early 7th century. The orchestra group was organized by the kings and queens of Italian and French churches. They used string instruments to perform at dance parties, ballet, and operas. This is fascinating that the orchestra music goes back as far as the late 6th century. I could see how Beethoven, Smetana, Tchaikovsky and among other have made amazing orchestral music and how they were influenced by it. When the orchestra is playing it could have 10 or more instruments. During class, I learn that when we talk about the orchestra it usually means a symphony orchestra. A ... Compare and contrast the attitudes and values of the two speakers of the poems and how the poets have used language to convey these between â€Å To His Coy Mistress” by Andrew Marvel and â€Å My Last Duchess” by Robert Browning Both the poems have the theme of love, written from a man’s point of view, and explores the way men treat woman in relationships. The former does this by a male narrator writing a poem to a female, using imagery to entice her. The second poem does also use imagery, however in a different way and for a different purpose. The narrator is describing the duchess to the emissary â€Å That’s my last duchess painted on the wall”. This shows he is only describing the painting but as he is using the imagery he describes what she was like and how she made him angry. However as he describes her it makes her seem like she is just an object, which she was to him. This is his view of woman, that they belong to a man which was very common belief at that time. From the poetic devices used their attitudes are different because in the first he shows his sensitive side and tries to put a bit of romance into it. However the imagery in the second goes against him as he believes that she was his object and belonged to him. In both poems there is the recurrent theme of irony. In â€Å To His Coy Mistress” the poem’s entire first section is ironic in the sense that the speaker knows he isn’t being genuine. • 11. Transformational Learning Within The Student Athlete Recent studies have demonstrated the powerful impact of transformational learning on feelings of cynicism among college students (Duarte, 2010). Transformational learning within the student athlete population has not been empirically studied, although the potential benefits are enormous as student athletes have been found to experience feelings of cynicism throughout their collegiate careers, despite initial feelings of optimism (Adler Adler, 1985). The commercialized nature of intercollegiate athletics today presents a unique environment in which to implement effective studentathlete focused career development interventions. • 13. Literary Analysis Of Debra Marquart s The Horizontal World The upper Midwest is a region often viewed as unimportant or boring due to its seemingly endless plains and uneventful daily life. In her memoir, The Horizontal World, Debra Marquart challenges this view to show her fondness of the upper Midwest. By using techniques including juxtaposition, realism, and references to well known people/works, Marquart effectively manipulates her audience to agree with her perception of the region. Juxtapositioning is typically used in a narrative to show multiple events occurring at the same time or contrasting views which reveal a claim. In this text, Marquet employs a creative use of the technique by using both real events and referring to texts about the region in comparison to one another. For example, Marquart compares Garrison Keillors Lake Wobegon, in which she references, where all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average with the Coen Brothers , Fargo, which she reminds the audience is, the macabre land of murder by woodchipper. By comparing these two dramatically contrasting works, Marquart places the idea in the audience s head that this could be a region containing vast stories and interesting people. In addition, both works are well known, giving the region a sense of importance. Marquart continues to manipulate the audience in the following paragraph when positioning the layout of the land with the opinions of the earliest assessors. By placing, easy inclines and ... This thesis is a variation of the view that all facts are mind independent as only minds can describe the world; Boghossian partly agrees with this view as he does acknowledge that some facts are indeed mind dependent and he gives examples such as that there could be no fact such as money if we humans didn t construct that fact; however he believes that logic cant apply to all facts such as dinosaurs or electrons which don t rely on humans for their existence. Boghossian has trouble identifying a solid argument for absolute fact constructivism and this is worsened by the fact that he believes that there is a thesis which is similar to absolute fact constructivism to an extent but then again the very same thesis supports fact objectivism which goes against absolute fact constructivism and the result is it weakens the argument for absolute fact constructivism and makes it seem implausible than it actually is Boghossian calls this thesis Social Relativity of Descriptions. ... Since the school is so small the student to teacher ratio is 11:1. The 18th century marked the beginning of the great evangelical revivals surrounded by a number of protestant churches across the western world, in particular America and Europe. • 28. The Use Of Hyperbole In British Literature Critical Analysis In this analysis I will be discussing the use of hyperbole throughout British literature. Hyperbole is defined as an extravagant statement or figure of speech not intended to be taken literally ( Hyperbole ). The use of this literary device is prevalent throughout early and middle British literature and even through modern day examples. I believe the use of this literary device in British literature is due to the fact that religion and the aristocracy were integral parts of the society from the very beginning. Both of these institutions were constraining and controlling. The use of hyperboleallowed writers to be able to express their thoughts and opinions without fear of harsh treatment or negative repercussions. In addition, it was possible for the writers to provide vivid and visceral descriptions of characters and locations. Hyperbole and hyperbolic language are both significant characteristics of British literature that transcend history. The first piece of literature I will be examining is The Wanderer. The Wanderer is a piece of early English literature that describes the characters experiences with exile and the loss of his material wealth. In this early English poem, the author uses hyperbolic language to describe the internal feelings of The Wanderer, in addition to, the physical and temporal experience of the exile itself. In doing so, the author brings attention to the existential crisis the main character has in losing his gold friend and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lamark s theory of use and disuse proposes that an organism s structure will steadily evolve and adapt to its environment, but only if it is being used frequently. Using giraffes, Lamark explains that the constant stretching of their necks to reach for higher leafs on trees caused giraffes to develop their long necks. Similarly, according to Lamark if a structure is no longer being used, it will slowly vanish over time. But people are quick to dismiss the use and disuse theory because he mentions that any characteristics that a parent acquires throughout their lifetime will be passed on to their offspring. This is known to not be true because a parent who loses a limb would not mean that their offspring would also be missing that same limb. Conditioning human behavior has been studied for many years, Psychologists Edward Thorndike and B.F. Skinner, have dedicated the majority of their lives to the study. Thorndike s theory Law of effect. Thorndike suggests that certain stimuli and response become connected or dissociated from each other. His experiment worked by placing a cat in a box, then observing its behavior as it tried to escape and obtain the food on the other side. He studied several cats and plotted the time it took for them to escape from the puzzle box. The challenge to get out of the box remained the same, but the amount of time to get out of the box decreased, and while the animal may have not realized what it was doing, but knew what he had to do to receive the food. He concluded that animals learn from reward and punishment or trial and error. The theory of B.F. Skinner is based upon the idea that learning is about change in behavior. Operant conditioningis learning by consequence. To put it simply, an action which he rewarded is likely to be repeated along with an action that is punished is less likely to be repeated. B.F. In 1534, in England, King Henry founded the Anglican Church. There were two well known religions, Anglicanism and Catholicism. There were some differences between the two of these even though they both came from the same kind of christianityand followed Jesus Christ in Judea. By time, they separated into two different types of Christians. The Anglicans followed the church of Englandand Catholics believe the seven sacraments. One of the differences is that the Anglican Church does not support any kind of classification of ranking that determines the worth of a church or priest over all the others. This rule provides every church and region much freedom to decide approaches/policies. Every Anglican Church is in the Communion. Archbishop of Canterbury is classified as one of the highest but that does not give him the permission and power over churches out of his region. The Catholic Church has established a habit of classification and ranking. Student s Transition Into Elementary School Essay A student s transition into elementary school marks a unique gateway into formal schooling that is encumbered with new demands and susceptible to new influences. Within the past few decades, researchers have used students school transitions as a context to examine the influence of student teacher relationships (e.g., Birch Ladd, 1997; Ewing Taylor, 2009; Pianta Stuhlman, 2004). The quality of these dyadic relationships is an important platform through which teachers instruct students and students acquire multifaceted knowledge from their teachers (Pianta, 1999). Researchers suggest that certain aspects of student teacher relationships support and regulate students development, particularly during the early years (Pianta, 1999). Although these aspects include teachers instruction (e.g., explicit, systematic, etc.), they also include features of the classroom environment, such as teachers sensitivity and warmth, responsiveness, and verbal engagement (Downer, Sabol, Hamre, 2010). When combinations of high quality and supportive instruction are embedded within students learning, students are able to interact constructively with their teachers and peers (Gallagher, Kainz, Vernon Feagans, White, 2013). More importantly, aspects of instructional and classroom environment encourage students to capitalize on available learning opportunities and to adjust to the expectations of formal schooling (Howes, Phillipsen, Peisner Feinberg, 2000).
