Mountaineering Should Be Closed
Is it worth to risking your life to climbing high mountains or look like a champion? I have any
opinions of how I feel about if Everest should be kept closed or opened. Mountaineering is a type
of sport that involves climbing on mountains. I don t think that Mt. Everest should be opened and
I will be explaining and giving my opinion of why I think Everest should be closed and not to be
opened again.
First of all, I think that doing mountaineering is a dangerous type of sport because you can put
your life at risk if you don t have the right materials. When people go mountaineering on Mt.
Everest or when it takes place in winter time, things can fall from the sky and can kill people. In
source #2, it states in 2012, there was a wedge of ice that fell and went down to a slope in chunks
and the falling ice killed twenty five men and their bodies were never found. The people who do
mountaineering should have more advanced materials for their safety and not put their life at risk.
It s not just deaths, but serious injuries have occurred because of dangerous sports like this. ... Show

In source #2, in Australia, tourists were not allowed to climb the mountains because it was
forbidden so people were safe. People that are responsible for mountaineering think that it s not a
big deal if someone dies, but I think it is a big deal. Multiple deaths shouldn t happen because it s
materials that need to step in and try helping people who are climbing high mountains to prevent
these type of situations. The government should be more concerned with sports that involve deaths

Semantic Web And The Web
another day, right now we are sticking to the Semantic Web. We should first wait until the Semantic
Web is completed before we jump to the next thing on the list. (Aghaei, Nematbakhsh and Farsani)
(Frauenfelder)
The million dollar question is: what is the Semantic Web? The Semantic Web is not a completely
new web that is going to replace the current web, it is simply and extension from the present web.
The idea of Web 3.0 is for the information in the web to be understood and recognized by the
computer. Today the web is a big global storage that stores files for humans to read, not computers,
humans. This in what the Semantic Webis going to change by allowing computers to read and
understand the information and data stored in the web. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A better way to help understand the Semantic Web would be a scenario placed by the Tim Berners
Lee. First, imagine that you are registering for an online conference. The website of the
conference contains not only the event date, time and location, but also information from the
closest hotel and airport. In real and regular life a you would have to make sure you have a time
in your schedule that is compatible with the online conference for you to be able to attend. Next
you would have to make arrangements for the flight by buying a ticket and for the hotel by
reserving a room that meets your needs. According to Berners Lee right now there is no way
you can simply say I want to go to the event because you have to make plans by making
arrangements. However, with the semantic web this scenario of simply wanting to go without
making previous arrangements is possible because with the Semantic Web the airport and hotel
arrangements can be done by simply pressing a button. The SM would book your flight and it
will reserve your room as well, without you having the need to pick up the phone to call a
reservation desk, or you having to visit the hotel s or airport s website. As you can see Web 3.0 can
facilitate our tasks tremendously.(Frauenfelder) (Dumbill) (Hendler, Berners Lee and Miller)

Cost Of Billboard
What Are the Added Costs of Renting a Billboard?
Other than renting a billboard, there are other costs that must be accounted for. On average,
companies will spend $500 to $1,000 to pay someone to design the billboard. Buying the vinyl
material for a bulletin billboard will cost about $500 for 700 square feet of vinyl. To lower costs,
businesses can always choose to hire a freelancer online to complete the design.
How Do I Rent the Billboard That I Want?
If the business has already found the right spot for their advertisement, the next step is actually
renting the billboard. Normally, the advertiser s name will be listed below or next to the billboard

Gender And Gender Equality

Centuries after another and now the present, the twenty first century still faces a huge issue
towards the acceptance on gender equality. Nonetheless, women are unappreciated in today s
society s workforce. But for Sheryl Sandberg who wrote the article Lean In , believes that any
women in the world could be whoever they want to be. Sandberg inspires many girls of today s
generation for being a successful woman who followed her dreams and not let inequalities and
gender roles affect her. Through Sandberg s hard work, she became the COO of Facebook and
eventually became a billionaire. Her successful story was shared on her essay where she stated
encouraging aspects of how women should be. Such as, leaning in to their careers instead of
stepping back to focus on family. In addition, Sandberg concludes that women shouldn t be afraid
of pursuing their ambition because of the negative views that they may receive or even the fear
of failing. In other hand, the author of Beyond Lean In , Bell Hooks argues that leaning in is
maybe not for everyone. Hooks criticizes Sandberg about her views of how women should be
because Hooks thinks that Sandberg did not consider the women with different backgrounds.
Furthermore, Hooks did not ignore the fact that some women struggles to succeed on the
workforce due to their race and social class. Hooks points out a very legitimate fact because she
actually look at different types of women while Sandberg might not be able to relate to that

Informative Essay On Dogs In Entertainment
Dogs in Entertainment
Dogs in entertainment are highly trained performers who are eager to please. Canines currently
entertaining audiences worldwide include television and movie actors, models, kennel club show
dogs, athletes, live stunt performers, and more. Have you seen one lately? Canine actors and
models appear in commercials, print ads, catalogs, movies, television shows, music videos, live
shows, and probably a lot of amateur YouTube videos. There are hundreds of these opportunities
for dogs every year. Of course, it takes a highly motivated owner to launch and manage a
successful canine career in show biz. Just as in the world of human show biz, some dogs do
become famous. (But most are just playing a lot of small parts.) For example, a spunky Parson

The Importance Of Self-Assessment In Mathematics
The results of this study have important implications for teachers. They suggest the need for
mathematics teachers to provide middle school students with relevant self assessment skills
effective for mathematics learning. The results also suggest that both low and average achievers
can benefit from the self assessment instruction and as such both achievers can explore the skills in
self assessment to enhance their mathematics achievement. Teachers of mathematics should
therefore be equipped with self assessment approach in teaching low and average mathematics
achieving students. This will help the students who have difficulties in some areas of mathematics
to acquire the necessary skills needed for successful learning of mathematics. Although self
assessment increased mathematics achievement of low and average mathematics achievers, self
assessment had no effect on mathematics achievement of high achievers. This result indicates the
need for more evidence on the effect of self assessment on mathematics achievement of high
achievers and conditions lead to positive effects. Second, the present research confirms that students
subsequent learning goals to correct misunderstandings and to extend learning is important to
students success in math. This suggest that mathematics teachers need to give students frequent
opportunities to set personal goals based on their difficulties. However, it is not enough that the
teacher asks students to set goals, but there should be a follow

The Effects of Pressure Groups on the Government Essay...
The Effects of Pressure Groups on the Government A pressure group is an organised interest group,
which seek to influence the formulation and the implementation of public policy. In both the
United Kingdom and the United States of America, membership to political parties has decreased,
meanwhile membership to pressure groups have increased. Pressure groups differ from political
parties in that they do not seek to win political office; in addition, they concern themselves with
sectional policy rather than a wide range, and therefore pressure groups aim to protect or advance a
shared interest. The first amendment of the US constitution claims citizens have the right of speech,

With the diminution in membership of political parties, it appears that people would prefer to
invest their energies in pressure groups rather than parties. Within 50 years, membership to the
Labour Party has declined from one million to 280,000 members; the Conservative Party s
membership has decreased even further from 3 million to 318,000. Meanwhile, membership to
organisations such as the National Trust (2.8 million members), and to the Royal Society (one
million) has increased. Jordan and Maloney said in 1997 it may seem parties are replaced by
pressure groups but people prefer to do very little in public interest groups as opposed to very
little in political parties.[1] People prefer pressure groups as they have more chances to involve
themselves in politics. They have a chance to protest, petition and lobby which is all part of a
healthy democratic society. The term pressure group is a broad term; so political commentator Wyn
Grant makes the distinction between insider and outsider groups. Although difficult, it is possible
to distinguish one from the other, by looking at the strategies they employ. Insider groups abide by

Violation Of Copyright And The Motion Picture Industry

35.3 billion U.S. dollars in revenue by 2019. Among studios, Buena Vista accomplished the most
in 2016 it held the biggest piece of pie, around 26 percent, and produced the highest box office
revenue, more than 3 billion U.S. dollars. Warner Bros. represented closely 17 percent of the entire

Emollient Agents Make Our Skin Smoother Essay
Emollients
Emollients are agents that soften and make the skin smoother. They are also called moisturizers.
Emollients are used for dry skin or eczema. When a moisturizer is applied to skin, it covers the
skin with a protective layer that reduces the amount of water loss in the skin and prevents dryness.
Emollients also prevent the skin form itching and eczema from flaring up.
Are emollients, emulsifiers, and lotions polar or non polar?
Most lotions contain oil or other non polar ingredients. They also contain large quantities of water
which is polar. The oil in the lotion is emulsified so it can be mixed with the water. But, both
ingredients still remain in the lotion which makes it both polar and non polar. Emulsifiers are used

Many people buy lotions thinking that it has special ingredients that will help moisturize their skin,
but in fact water is the widely held ingredient in hand lotions.
Oil: oil is another important ingredient in hand lotions. Some lotions use liquid oils and others use
solid oils or butters. Avocado, coconut, Shea, and olive oils are some of the most popular oils used
in lotions.
Glycerin: it is also known as a humectant. It attracts moisture from the air to the skin and it is also
used as a lubricant to make the lotion smooth.
Citric acid: this is used as a preservative to prevent the other ingredients from spoiling. Citric acid
also helps lower the PH of the lotion and it makes it more suitable for the different skin types.
Other ingredients that are used are scents, color, etc.
How do hand lotions work?
When hand lotion is applied, it creates a barrier on the skin that prevents the oils from escaping and
does not allow any harmful substance to enter the skin that can cause dryness or irritation. It also
blocks water from leaving the skin and attracts water, this helps to maintain moisture in the skin.
The purpose of hand lotions
There are hand creams designed for different purposes. Most people use hand lotions for dry skin,
usually in the winter time. Lotions soften the hand and it looks more visually appealing. Some
people use lotions because they have eczema, and lotion prevents it from flaring up. Others may use

The Center Of Philadelphi The Tower Of Terror
If you have ever been to Philly, you have probably passed it at one time an old abandoned building,
which at one time was the center of Philadelphia attention. I have travelled through Philadelphia
many times and have passed this impressive Victorian style building. Despite its abandoned and
rundown appearance, I have always said that this building had so much beauty and potential. The
outside of the building has intricate arching and architecture, and has eye catching brick and stone
detailing. Driving down Broad Street, going from North Philly towards the center of downtown,
my eyes always drifted to the left to stare at this building a structure somewhat resembling the
Tower of Terror from Disney World. After passing this building various times, my mind began to
question if this building was at one time a well kept and prosperous place. As I passed this
building once more, I took note of the rickety sign that sits on top of the building that reads Divine
Lorraine Hotel. I began research on the hotel and had never envisioned the history which stands
behind that old desolate building. At one time, the Divine Lorraine Hotel was the place to live in
Philadelphia. Broad Street was a populated and flourishing area in the city. So what is the history
behind this building and what ever happened to the Divine Lorraine Hotel? The hotel of striking
architecture, through years of history, fell to shambles after being one of the most successful hotels
in Philadelphia.

The Neuman System Model And Its Impact On Patients And...
Betty Neuman is a renowned nursing theorist who developed the Neuman System Model. This
model emphasizes stress and the impact it can have on patients and nursing care. Key concepts of
this theory include preventions, stressors, and lines of defense. Neuman also addresses the
metaparadigms of nursing, health, humanbeing, and environment in relation to her model. The
Neuman System Model is recognized by nurses across the globe, and a Neuman System Practice
Center has been established to help develop her theory (Gigliotti, 2012, p. 298). This theory can be
utilized in any nursing care and is inspiration for other nursing theorists.
The Neuman System Model is an open system that responds to stressors in the internal, external,
and created environments (Masters, 2015). The model can be applied to physiological,
psychological, sociocultural, developmental, and spiritual nursing care making it very diverse in
applicability. The Neuman System Model discusses many concepts. One major concept is the idea
of stressors and their affects on the patient system. Neuman defines stressors as any phenomenon
that might penetrate both the flexible and normal lines of defense, resulting in a positive or
negative outcome (Masters, 2015). Types of stressors include intrapersonal, interpersonal, and
extrapersonal. Intrapersonal stressors are those that occur within the client system boundary and
correlate with the internal environment (Masters, 2015). Interpersonal stressors are those that

Salvador Dali Research Paper
On May 11, 1904, Salvador Dali was born in a town called Figueres located in Catalonia, Spain.
Dali started painting when he was six years old. He is a surrealist so his paintings are unreal and
unpredictable. His mother was fully supportive about him choosing art as a career. However, his
father supported his talent, but he did not believe that art would not lead to a successful life.
Dali was a very unique individual. He expressed his dreams through fascinating paintings. I have
learned a lot about Dali from this trip. The most interesting thing to me was that he got expelled
from college because he refused to take an exam. He was almost done with college but refused
to take the exam anyway. It showed that he is filled with courage. He is his own person and no
one could tell him different. It also proves to his father that a college degree is not necessary to
succeed in life. I admire that courage because all my life, the people around me would always tell
me that education is the only way to success. It bothers me because they degrade those who do not

One of his methods is to fall asleep on a couch with his arms dangling on the sides and holing a
key in one of his hands. He also placed a plate right under the key so that the key will drop and

to record dreams. When we are awake, we are fully conscious about everything going on so our
mind is controlled and our thinking is limited. We make connections with what we already know,
our brains think and do work. When we are asleep, we are unconscious so our minds can make
connections without any limit. I believe that dreams work differently for everyone. Dreams

Racial Stereotypes And Its Negative Effects On Our Society
Humanity as a whole cannot help but judge one another. A stereotype is a fixed belief about
someone s religion, gender, or social group. Stereotypes can have positive and negative affects on
our society. Often times, people use stereotypes to belittle a group of people. An example of a
racial stereotype would include all Hispanics being illegal immigrants. Racial stereotypesalways
favor the raceof the holder and put down other races. People use racial stereotypes because it is
human nature to recognize patterns. When seeing these patterns within a specific race people
often tend to immediately associate him or herself within that society. From a positive point of
view stereotypes can give confidence and favor them above a certain group or class of people.
Stereotypes such as Asians have high IQs can make them have confidence in themselves. often
times it is hard to live up to a positive stereotype. Although we think positive stereotyping is a
good thing it really is not. Most positive stereotyping sets the bar unrealistically high and only
leaves room for failure. Another example of a positive stereotype with a negative affect is All
black people are good at sports. If a particular African American is not good at sports then they
will feel less than adequate. Positive stereotypes can be depressing to individuals who are
supposed to posses them but fall short. Referring to the article listed as Reality TV Goes Where

Relativity Essay
Relativity is a theory in physics that can be basically implies that space and time are one in the
same. This is absolutely counterintuitive to classical physics which has the two as completely
different entities. Relativity can be separated into two basic concepts: Special and General
Relativity. Within Relativity the fundamental concept above all else is that space and time are
intertwined with each other in the universe as a fabric called space time. Simply put, Special
Relativitydeals with the laws of Physics when observers are all moving uniformly relative to each
other while General Relativityexpands on the idea to include gravitation and acceleration. (Lieber,

However this is not the same for the beam of light fired from the laser pointer. This is because
light is an electromagnetic wave that is independent of the motion of its starting point. It will
always travel at 299,792,458 m/s because light s speed only depends on the medium through
which it travels and the motion of the object it is created from is completely irrelevant. (Lieber,
Lillian R. The Einstein Theory of Relativity. Philadelphia: Paul Dry, 2008. Print. p. 4 37)(

This postulate developed by Einstein has what some would call key problems and would cause
uproar in conventional thinking. Things such as time now become variables when original
thinking classified it as an unchanging constant. Just thinking about this prospect can be mind
boggling. Time is something that everyone takes for granted as being a constant flow, just
ticking away, and perpetual. But, in fact, it is something that depends entirely on space time.
How do we know that time is relative? Imagine a different kind of clock. This clock is unique
because instead of a hand ticking away it is actually a beam of light bouncing between two
mirrors. This would seem the most logical choice of an accurate clock because light is a constant

Oliver Twists s Fagin as a Character for Whom the Audience...
Oliver Twists s Fagin as a Character for Whom the Audience has Considerable Sympathy
Oliver Twist was the second novel of Charles Dickens. It was initially published in monthly
instalments that began in February of 1837 and ended in April of 1939. The book has been
criticised for anti Semitism since Fagin is frequently referred to as the Jew . At the time many
Jews, who had fled to England from persecution abroad, were so discriminated against by the law
that they became travelling salesmen and stallholders. In these trades it was very easy to drift into
receiving and selling stolen goods. The Jewish thief s characterizations do seem to owe much to
ethnic stereotypes.
The first time Oliver ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Jew believed that Oliver should be honoured to be welcomed by his intimate contact because
of the power he had over the other boys showing that he is very dominant. This illustrates that he
is very proud of the children he has brought up to be pickpockets. However, in reality we know
that bringing up small boys to steal is something to be frowned upon. Certainly, this shows Fagin is
swollen with pride with things of no worth.
Fagin is seen as a child abuser when we examine the way he treats the boys in the den. He allows
children of a young age to smoke long clay pipes, and drink spirits with the air of middle age men
. This gives the impression that the boys are being robbed of their youth at a very young age.
Without a doubt, a humane person would not strip the youngsters of their childhood.
At first Fagin doesn t want Oliver to know what he is really like. He uses repetition of the word
very in the context of him being glad to meet Oliver. He also refers to Oliver as my dear which is
an endearing term. Surely, only a kind hearted man, who loved children, would refer to a small
boy as this. However, we see that the Jew deliberately put Oliver to sleep by drugging him with a
glass of hot gin and water . It would suggest that Fagin wanted Oliver to get a good first

Describe and Evaluate Circadian Rhythms
Describe circadian rhythms (8marks)
Circadian rhythms occur every 24 hours; an example of a circadian rhythm is the sleep waking
cycle. We are diurnal animals who are active during the daytime and asleep at night, other animals
are nocturnal they are active at night but asleep during the day. The circadian rhythm depends on the
interaction of physiological and psychological processes to be tuned into the sleep waking cycle
so energy is provided when needed. As diurnal humans we have a fairly stable sleep pattern with
the time we go to sleep and the time we wake up, this consistency suggests an internal mechanism
controls sleep, endogenous pacemaker. However, this can be overridden by external factors,
exogenous zeitgebers.
The endogenous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When using non humans there needs to be justification to inflict this kind of sacrifice, due to the
number of rats that did die during this study is a major concern and as Stephan and Zucker s study
was conducted in 1972 before the regulations were tightened, it is unlikely their study would be
permitted today.
To explain the control of biological rhythms by just referring to endogenous pacemakers such as
the SCN is an example of biological reductionism. This is a limited approach as it is partial and
does not take account of the interaction of endogenous pacemakers with exogenous zeitgeber. The
psychologists assume that the damage to the SCN is the only causation of the disturbed sleep there
is no consideration that the sleep waking cycle could be a more complex mechanism. The SCN is
connected to the pineal gland which could be the underlying cause of the disturbed sleep, due to the
damage of the SCN this connection may mean that melatonin is no longer secreted efficiently. This
would suggest that the SCN is only a factor within a larger pathway. Michel Siffre however did take
into account the interaction of endogenous pacemakers and exogenous zeitgebers.
Siffer, a French geologist, spent six months in a cave with no natural light; his biological rhythms
became free running in the absence of light. The cave was artificially lit and Siffre had a phone to
the outside world to turn light on or off. He had no watch and ate and

adversarial system that Australia s Rule of Law system follows. The argument stands that the
adversarial system is too aggressive in its approach to the legal system. Would Australia benefit
more from the adversarial system changing into the inquisitorial systemor would it be more
beneficial to create a hybrid of the two. This essay will aim to discuss the advantages and
disadvantages of both the current system of adversarial and the more European system of
inquisitorial. Highlighting why it is important to begin moving away from a traditional adversarial
systemdrawing evidence from the Family court of Australia, the Netherlands and Nigeria s current...

Moving from system to another in such a drastic way would not benefit society, but as it is
coming more and more plainly to see the adversarial system is no longer working to stand in
several courts and importantly the victim/survivor. Taking a stance similar to the one the Family
Court of Australia has taken could be extremely beneficial for the victim/survivor as it has shown to
bring pressure of the parents and children in Family Court disputes. Another example of the
inquisitorial system slow but needed integration in Australia law is the Victorian Coroner s Court.
These integrations show a great start in approving our existing law practices. The inquisitorial
system would allow the Rule of Law to thrive in Australia. With victims/survivors having more of
control of their trails a better system of evidence sharing it would see the say the whole truth and
nothing but the truth actually be corrected rather than the truth as is needed to best serve their

Edgar Allan Poe Alone Essay
From childhood s hour I have not been As others were is a quote from Alone by Edgar Allen
Poe. This poem has a copious amount of metaphors and contradicting statements. Edgar uses
those literary devices to show his struggles with isolation and depression. In the beginning, he
said as a child he was different from everyone else because he didn t have the same intensity of
emotions as others I could not bring My passions from a common spring From the same source I
have not taken My sorrow . He talks about his incapability to feel a full scale of emotions and
isolation. Poe s cease to have a range of emotions makes him to remain neutral or detached. He
isolated himself from others because of his differences and later on the solitude would... Show more

The poem has an abundance of metaphors and contradictions. Nature is an extended metaphor
throughout Alone and that is where multiple of the contradictions are located. Poe has made many
of the word have double meanings, for example the word torrent . From the torrent, or the fountain
torrent could either mean fast moving waters, which would contradict with a fountain s water, or it
could mean a sudden and violent outburst of words or feelings, which could fit it with the theme of
him not have such extreme emotions. The word torrent also fits in with the extended nature
metaphor. Poe uses the extended metaphor to show all the contrasting emotions around him, but he
remains neutral. Then, in the dawn Of a most stormy life , stormy or the aspect of a storm is used
as a metaphor to show his emotions. The metaphor is also used many times in the entire poem
which shows him remaining neutral even when there are so many different emotions around him.
The contradictions represent the contrasting emotions in the extended metaphor. In the end, the
metaphor Of a demon in my view is used to show the results of isolating himself from everyone
else because of his neutrality. The demon represents his depression from solitude. All the metaphors
are used to create the theme of being alone and

Wilson Fourteen Points
Although Woodrow Wilson was stoic about many of his viewpoints, his shaping of the Treaty of
Versailles and the way he compromised on so many of his Fourteen Points truly shows his lack of
strength in international affairs. Wilson, who was President throughout the First World War, stalled
the United States from entering until it was absolutely necessary. During the war, in a meeting with
advisors, he formulated a set of fourteen suggestions, which subsequently dropped into enemy
territory and eventually helped form the Treaty of Versailles. Unfortunately, between the
stubbornness of countries like France, who were severely disabled after the war, and Warren
Harding s determination to stay out of the League of Nations, many of Wilson s... Show more

Wilson called World War II The war to end all wars. It is very likely he would want to see this
through to the end and make sure that world war would never happen again. Because of this, many
of his fourteen points were very peaceful and did not appoint a winner or loser. It also required a
great deal of international cooperation in which many countries were not ready to participate.
Absolute freedom of naval navigation in either peace or war is quite a long stretch for many of
the nations that had just been severely battered and blockaded. International reduction of arms
and the removal of economic barriers had the possibility of reducing the defense, both militarily
and economically to dangerously low levels. His fourteen points also made many suggestions
concerning land and areas that had been involved in conflict stretching back even to the Prussian
occupation of Alsace Lorraine. Such suggestions included an evaluation of colonial claims, of
Russian territory, and the restoration of states like Romania, Serbia, and Montenegro. Of course,
the Alsace Lorraine was to be restored to France, which caused even more of a struggle for
Germany to support itself. All of these were penultimate to Wilson s sincere desire for a league of
many nations working together to promote world peace. Wilson conceded so many of his points in
order to keep the League of Nations. He saw this as the most important product because it was

Rationalising a Scheme of Work for Teaching and Learning...
I am course leader on the Foundation Degree for Early Years at the further education institution in
which I work. The foundation degree is delivered in collaboration with a higher education

The module was delivered through a mixture of lectures, seminars, tutorials videos, discussions,
observations and the VLE Moodle . The approach to the teaching and learning methods employed
was that of active learning, catering to different learning styles. An awareness of different learning
styles can help teachers to sustain motivation by encouraging and facilitating pupils use of preferred
styles but also providing support when using alternative approaches (Highland Council Education,
2010; Honey and Mumford, 1986, cited in McGill and Beaty, 1995). Active participation by the
student group was encouraged throughout by myself, as their tutor.
One example of the different methods of teaching and learning used on the module involves
discussion of observations made in the workplace in week 2 (Appendix 1). Incorporating the use
of observation of children by the learners recognises that this is one of the most important aspects
of day to day professional practice when working with children in early years (Hall, 2005), and
therefore also has a motivating effect on the learners. Further, this provides them the opportunity to
practice their literacy skills in the work place. The use of discussion for learning following a
(kinaesthetic) activity has been shown in research to be an important part of supporting higher

Sappho s Use Of Imagery Essay
Imagery is utilized in literature to appeal to the reader s senses and to paint a picture in their
imagination. Poets use the images they create to help the reader interpret their writing. For
instance, in Psalm 104 descriptive language is used throughout to praise the beauty of earth as
god created. The poem opens by praising the greatness of the lord and continues into: Who
coverest thyself with as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain / Who layeth
the beams of his chambers into the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot (Lines 2 3). In these
lines the poet is explaining how god created the natural world. The reader can visually picture god
creating the heavens, in their vastness, just as if he were shaking out a curtain. Attempting to
picture the creation of heaven can be difficult, however, the author uses a simile to help readers
develop a clear picture.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in Sappho s poem number 94, her use of imagery allows the reader to experience the
speaker s loss of their lover in lines 1 5:
I simply want to be dead.
Weeping she left me
with so many tears and said this:
Oh how badly things have turned out for us.
Sappho, I swear, against my will I leave you.
The poem is written as a conversation between Sappho and a woman who is leaving her,
probably to marry another. The reader can relate and feel Sappho s heartbreak and relate to her
agony. There is also a senseof fondness between the two women as the discuss the time they shared
together (lines 10 20).
Boat of Cypress, contained in the Classic of Poetry, also utilized imagery to allow the reader to
relate to the speaker of the poem.
The Boat of cypress drifts along, it drifts upon the steam.
Restless am I, I cannot sleep,
As though in torment and troubled.
Not am I lacking wine

Modern Technology And Science Rule
ords
Since the 18th and 19th century the world has spiralled into an ever changing and fast paced place
where the possibilities are endless and technology and science rule. There was the introduction of
machines, modern technology and science which gave the world incredible inventions such as the
motorcar, aeroplane, the radio and electricity. These are the things that bought civilisation into
modernity, it changed not only how people used the world but how they saw the world and
envisaged the future. As times changes, architects gracefully chose to or were forced to adapt to
the needs and conditions of their present world which were created by this Modernity. Some of
these conditions which will be analysed are; the way in which society started to reject traditions and
believe in the present and future, the initial reactions of scepticism towards the development of
technology and imagination becoming important as people s views on the world started to shift.
The early 19th century was a tumultuous time for civilians and young soldiers alike living in
Germany, with unthinkable losses in the war and an uncertain political future, this time of uneasy
life with hopes for a better future created widespread despair and wild hopes through the country
(Gay 2008, p315). This along with the constantly rising trends of modernity and the worlds need to
make it new, an ever growing list of modern men throughout Europe strove to make a difference,
one of these men was Walter Gropius. A

Police Brutality And Use Of Force
One of the biggest issues in not just criminal justice but also in America is the use police
brutality and use of force. The interpreted definition of use of force is when an officer feels like
it is necessary to defend themselves or others. There is no set definition of what use of force
actually means. The amount of force used depends on the situation the officer is and how the
situation ends in the safest result. There are two types force lethal and less lethal force. Less
lethal force is basic verbal commands and physical restraint while lethal means to use enough
force to kill. Reasonable force is classified as force that is constitutionally permissible by the
fourteenth amendment. The fourteenth amendment states that citizens should get equal
protection of the law. Using more force than is needed to subdue and individual is known as
excessive force. Officers who use excessive force should be punished for their actions. There has
been a lot of cases in the news about the use of excessive force all over the country and the videos
are on all sorts of social media. The result of this is people being afraid of a policeand also causing a
dislike of law enforcement as well. The use of force has many different outcomes for law
enforcement. With the use of force officers can look like heroes or a villain based on a split
second decision. Law enforcement as they are put in situations where they can save lives but also
end lives in certain situations. The use of force is a very

Evaluating the Economy of Austria Essay
Evaluating the Economy of Austria
In 1995 Austria joined the European Union (EU), and in 1999 they joined the European Monetary
Union. The use of a common currency the Euro has facilitated trade and promoted economic
stability for U.S. companies to manage pricing, balance accounts, and move products into Austria
and throughout the EU member nations ( globaledge , 2003). An unfavorable exchange rate for U.S.
exporters turned positive in 2003 making the U.S. able to compete on more favorable terms in the
near future.

In addition to the aspects of the Austrian market that affect marketing and management there are
other factors that must be examined. These factors affecting whether or not to conduct business in
another country include: the physical forces that affect a country economically, various economic
and socioeconomic forces, sociocultural forces, and competitive and distributive forces.
PHYSICAL FORCES
It is vital to examine the physical forces of a country including but not limited to the following: the
location of the country, its political relationships, topography, climate, natural resources, and
dynamic physical resources. The evaluation of these forces allows a more clear view of the
business potential in a chosen country. Austria s location is unique in the sense that it is a land

Joseph Conrad s novella, Heart of Darkness, describes a life altering journey that the protagonist,
Marlow, experiences in the African Congo. The story explores the historical period of colonialism
in Africa to exemplify Marlow s struggles. Marlow, like other Europeans of his time, is brought up
to believe certain things about colonialism, but his views change as he experiences colonialism
first hand. This essay will explore Marlow s view of colonialism, which is shaped through his
experiences and also from his relation to Kurtz. Marlow s understanding of Kurtz s experiences

He says the Romans were conquerors and not colonialists, and explains that what saves the
colonialist is the devotion to efficiency and the unselfish belief in the idea (pg.65 66). Yet
throughout the novel, Marlow s personal experiences show how colonialism was just that, the
robbing of Africa for ivory and profit by Europeans. He ascertains that there were no improvement
in Africa like the Europeans claimed, unless the body of a middle aged negro, with a bullet hole in
the forehead...may be considered improvement (pg.81). This notion of extreme physical violence is
something that threads its way through the novella.
The above epitomizes what Marlow thinks about what colonialism really brought to Africa. Some
Europeans may have genuinely believed in the idea of colonialism as being noble, but this belief
in the idea cannot save the horrible actions of colonialism or make them acceptable. Indeed this
false belief in an idea, rather then the practicalities of colonialism only aids to brutality of such
actions.
Furthermore at the time of the writing of this novella, approximately within the 1800 s,
exploration was seen as a wonderful adventure and the period of mapping out the world was well
under way. Europeans saw Africa as a black place on the map waiting to be discovered. When

An Inferential Analysis of Hemingway s Hills Like White...
In Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants I found many layers of symbolism, and a fascinating
psychological underplay afoot between his two characters. It begins with the girl s comment about
a line of white hills seen in the distance, which she compares to white elephants. The man responds
with the comment I ve never seen one.
The symbolism of a white elephant is widely known as something very large or apparent that no
one wishes to acknowledge or speak of in American society. It is an interesting opening to a very
strained conversation concerning an apparent pregnancy, and the man s wish to terminate it. The
couple s careful avoidance of actually naming the problem, or the proposed solution, suggests the
situation in which a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

At that point, the waitress tells them the train is due in five minutes. The man escapes with the

the story. Just as the two have switched their life course, they are now switching trains, heading

Theme Of Message In A Hanging By George Orwell
Hidden Messages of an Abolitionist
A Hanging , composed by George Orwell, is a personal testimony set in the 1920 s in Burma. The
narrative depicts the death of an unknown prisoner and the role of those who enforce the death
sentence. Through the process of the execution, Orwell illustrates the effects of capital punishment
on the executioners and the executed in an attempt to convey an Abolitionist message. While stated
only once in his story, Orwell takes an emphatic position against capital punishment. The author
does not use the classic argumentative style; instead, he uses implications of his characters to
present the four main points against capital punishment. George Orwell s Abolitionist message in A
Hanging is conveyed through the prisoner, dog, functionaries, and their actions, words, and body
language.
Orwell implies that capital punishment dehumanizes by illustrating the prisoner s living conditions
and treatment. George Orwell describes the prisoner s cell as an animal cage (99). By giving the
prisoner s environment animalistic qualities, Orwell implies the condemned man is not treated in a
humane manner. In doing this, Orwell insinuates that capital punishment dehumanizes the prisoner.
Similarly, the author relates the treatment of the condemned man to a fish. He states, It was like
men handling a fish which is still alive and may jump back into the water (99). By explaining the
treatment of the prisoner and the way the guards handle him, George Orwell implies capital
punishment dehumanizes everyone involved.
During the execution, the author also conveys that the prisoner is not guilty by emphasizing his
religion. Orwell recounts the prisoner s cry of Ram or Rama (101), the Hindu god, before his death.
According to Mark Cartwright, an expert in Greek Philosophy, Ram is a representation of purity. In
Hindu culture, a person capable of uttering Ram before death has good within them. George Orwell
and Mark Cartwright consequentially insinuate the condemned man s innocence. Furthermore,
Orwell implies the prisoner s guiltlessness through the actions of the servants. After hearing the
prisoner s cry of ram, the superintendent, guards, and functionaries had gone grey like bad coffee

Breaking The Five-Paragraph-Theme Barrier By Thomas Nunnally
In Breaking the Five Paragraph Theme Barrier professor Thomas Nunnally describes his experience
teaching the popular writing tool. The five paragraph theme requires an introductory paragraph,
three middle paragraphs that each have their own ideas, and a concluding paragraph. Nunnally
believes that this writingmodel should only be used as a writing tool and not the backbone to all
essays (Nunnally). I agree with Nunnally s stance, but also think that by the age of sixteen, students
should no longer be given the opportunity to rely on the model for writing opportunities. **
The five paragraph theme was created to be a general teaching tool for inexperience writers. It
allows the writers to easily formulate a structure essay. It tells you that you only need three
supporting details for your thesis and that each do not need to be in depth. Most teachers say that
a paragraph is only roughly 4 5 sentences long. As a result, if every paragraph is short then you re
only writing approximately 20 25 sentences. A writer can easily follow the structure given and
finish an essay in a well timely manner. The model is effective for beginners, but ineffective for
professionals (Nunnally).
Until a certain point, the model is effective for writers. It is a practical, easy template that allows a

Nunnally states its purpose to provide[s] for effective inculcation of concepts such as unity,
coherence, and development (Nunnally). The model is structured to unite each paragraph to each
other by using a thesis statement paragraph, three supporting paragraphs for said idea and finally,
to summarize your essay. The use of transitional words allows the author to smoothly connect each
paragraph and idea. Finally, the model develops chronologically. The author will introduce, prove
and conclude. The five paragraph model fulfills its purpose for the inexperienced writers

present the evidence that I have collected which has helped to shape my opinions and support my
arguments. Growing up in Singapore, I have heard about NTUC since I was young but never
have I scrutinised the trade union here so closely. I used to think that NTUC was the company that
gave Singaporeans NTUC Fairprice, the supermarket and NTUC Income for subsidised insurance.
To be quite honest, I was largely ignorant about what the NTUC did, but I knew that the NTUC
was fundamentally part of the government. Taking a glimpse into history and the events that
shaped NTUC, I have a newfound respect and pride for my nation s trade union for the work...

In Singapore, the close ties between PAP and NTUC is not a relationship that is kept behind
close doors. In fact, NTUC s Secretary General Lim Chee Onn in 1982 openly stated that the
PAP and NTUC come from the same womb. This elitist society as evidenced goes against the
definition of a trade union, as the members of a trade union should be the common man who isn
t part of any elitist group. The PAP government believes that the NTUC should have elite
leadership to guide the non elite leaders and the ordinary members of the union. The PAP also
believed that Singapore would benefit from appointing the elitist society as, the non elite cannot
be relied upon to represent themselves competently (Barr, 2000, p. 482). This belief reeks of
anti democracy however, it has somehow been accepted with the general public in Singapore. In
China, the government usually appoints the senior officials of the ACFTU. Even if members
elect a representative, the union may not necessarily agree on the elected representative. The top
official in ACFTU is also a member of the leading body of the CCP and usually holds a position
more senior in the government than in the union. As like the NTUC and PAP, the ACFTU and
CCP career paths for members are permeable. However, the status and prospects in the CCP are
more desirable than in ACFTU and thus union members are more prone to associate with CCP s
interests than the unions. Both

Jimi Henderson Analysis
David Henderson, an African American poet, wrote the article Jimi Hendrix Deep Within the
Blues and Alive Onstage at Woodstock 25 Years After Death to show how Jimi Hendrix has
continued to influence many people after his untimely death. Additionally, Henderson claims
that no other musician has been able to replicate Hendrix s precise and rapid picking and his
recognizance of sound and noise. Henderson personally knew Hendrix as he previously wrote his
book Scuse Me While I Kiss The Sky to express his opinion on popular black music at the time
and as a promise he made to Hendrix at a nightclub in Manhattan in 1969. It is impossible to deny
that Jimi Hendrixhas not continued to be one of the most influential music artists due to his unique
way of play[ing] with feedback, control[ing] it, and make[ing] it melodic. A skill that no other
musical artist has been able to replicate. Another important aspect of Hendrix s life... Show more

In addition, many modern musicians have paid homage to Hendrix by performing covers of his
songs. Examples include when the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed Fire and when Living
Colour performed Crosstown Traffic in their tribute album. Jimi Hendrix has even had some
influence over the rap genre with well known rapper, Future naming his second album HNDRXX.
Henderson also states that to listen to Hendrix today is constantly to be reminded of his gifts.
Hendrix is highly regarded as one of the best guitarist in history even though his musical career
only spanned four years. With his psychedelic inspired riffs, improvisational ability and his ability
to range between pure blues and avant garde jazz forms it is no surprise that he is often referred to
as a virtuoso artist on

The Wages For Equal Wages
Mind the (Pay) Gap Men in Travis Country, and all over the United States, are almost always paid
higher wages than their female coworkers for doing the same work. Women have been fighting
for equal rights and equal pay since the 19th century and it is about time women and men doing
the same job are paid the same amount. The solution to this is simple: pay women and men equal
wages for equal work. This would seem to be common sense, but it is still something we are
fighting for. Census data shows median yearly income for men in Travis County is approximately
$10,000 higher than for women (kxan.com). Freda Bryson, a TexasState doctoral student and equal
pay advocate said, When I go to buy food or groceries, I don t get a womans discount, I pay the
same thing as a male pays. So why shouldn t my wages be the same? This quote should send a
message: by paying women less than men, many women simply cannot afford the same basic
living expenses as men can. One in four households with children is headed by a single woman
(austincf.org). If a single mom is making significantly less than a man doing the same work, it is
almost impossible to provide a child with a life above the poverty level. Many women in Travis
County are living more than 100% below the line of poverty, and over half of these women have
children to take care of as well. How can you take care of a child if you cannot even afford to take
care of yourself? The genderpay gap is unacceptable and changes needs to be

Research Paper On Queen Hatshepsut
Pharaoh Queen Hatshepsut
Allie Rupkalvis
Queen Hatshepsut of the Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt was one of the first known female
pharaohs. Born in 1507 BC, Hatshepsut was the longest reigning female pharaoh, who was in
power from almost twenty two years. Queen Hatshepsut is often considered to be one of the most
successful pharaohs in the history of ancient Egypt.
Daughter to Egyptian king, Thutmose I, and his principal wife, Ahmose, Hatshepsut was destined to
be the queen one day. King Thutmose I also had another child with one of his lesser wives,
Thutmose II. After her father s death, twelve year old Hatshepsut was married off to her half
brother, Thutmose II. Marrying within your family was common during that time period because
they wanted to keep the royal bloodline pure.
King Thutmose II s reigned over the Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt for fifteen years, and Hatshepsut
took the traditional role as queen and principal wife. During Thutmose II and Hatshepsut s
marriage, Hatshepsut bore a daughter, Neferure, but no sons. However, Thutmose II had a male
heir, Thutmose III, with one of his lesser wives.
At the time of Thutmose II s death, Thutmose III was still an infant, unable to ascend the throne
unaided. Hatshepsut initially served as Thutmose III s regent, until, for reasons unknown,
Hatshepsut assumed the role of pharaoh. While Hatshepsut never officially gained possession of the
crown because Thutmose III was never uncrowned, it was clear that Hatshepsut was the primary
ruler.
Under the reign of Hatshepsut, Egypt flourished. Hatshepsut focused on economic prosperity and
rebuilding and restoring monuments throughout Egypt, rather than battles and conquering new
lands. Hatshepsut is credited for a trading expedition to the land of Punt, ships returned from the
island filled with gold, ivory, ebony, and myrrh trees. One of Hatshepsut s greatest accomplishments
as pharaoh was the memorial temple at Deir el Bahri. Hatshepsut s Mortuary Temple is considered
one of the architectural wonders of ancient Egypt.
On Year 22, 11 Peret day 10 (January 16, 1458 BC) of her reign Hatshepsut died. After the
mummified Hatshepsut was found, a CT scan showed that she had suffered from bone cancer,
diabetes, and

Paper On Birth Control
Birth Control has been a topic of debate for years. Nevertheless, several issues and opinions arise
when talking about it. Birth Control was first released in the form of a pill in 1960. Since then birth
control has evolved into several different forms, including pills, patches, implants, injections, and
sponges. As stated by the Guttmacher Institute, more than 43 million women of reproductive age
are sexually active and want to prevent pregnancy, as of October 2015. Among these women who
do not want to become pregnant, 62 percent are using contraception. (qtd. in Birth control1).
Birth Control was created by Margaret Sanger, who worked as a nurse in her early years ( Birth
control 2). In her career as a nurse, she came across women who had tried to perform abortions
on themselves and died from it. That is when she began working towards something that would
change the lives of women and give them more options than the ones that were presented at the
time. Sanger had formed a partnership with Katherine McCormick, a wealthy widow, who used
part of her substantial fortune to fund the extensive research needed before a reliable pill could be
approved. ( Birth Control 2). The Birth Control pill was not easily accessible and was distributed
unevenly until 1965.
Furthermore the Connecticut v. Griswold case took place in 1965 and is a significant case in the
United States. Moreover, this case emphasizes the right to privacy. The United States Supreme
Court ruled in

Analysis of the Movie Out of the Past
The movie Out of the Past directed by Jacques Tourneur fits within the traditions of film noir
because it has some similar themes associated with it, such as doomed love. Robert Mitchum
plays the doomed, double crossed , ex private eye as Jeff Markham. The femme fatale is played
by Jane Greer as Kathie Moffat, who is trying to escape her future. Kirk Douglas as Whit Sterling
plays the ruthless gangster czar in the film. The formal cinematic elements in the movie are used
to vividly describe the movie. You can see that the lighting is very shadowy and dark. The
composition of the film leaves the audience feeling trapped within Jeff s problems. For example,
when Jeff starts his journey from Mexico to San Francisco we the audience start to... Show more

Also, throughout the film shadow s are splashed over Jeff like a deadly visual benediction,
showing doomed fate. Flashback Analysis Throughout the movie Jeff tells us the story through
the flashback. He is telling his flashback to Ann, a girl he s in love with. The time period is set
three years back and is narrated by Jeff. The flashback is the backbone of the movie because it
shows the audience how the whole situation started and ended. Over half the movie is told
through the flashback which is important because it shows that the character chooses to focus on
the past instead of the present. The flashback is told because Jeff is going to Lake Tahoe to
handle some unfinished business and he decides to let Ann in on the truth. Jeff was working for
Whit and was assigned to find the girl who stole Whit s money. The flashback goes into great
detail throughout the whole situation. The theme passion is shown when Jeff meets up with
Kathie. Soon enough he forgets all about getting the forty grand and returning Kathie to Whit. Jeff
fell for Kathie so they ran away to San Francisco. The characters in the flashback are shown to be
a litte edgy. Fore example, when Kathie first meets Jeff, she plays hard to get, pretending she is
uninterested in him. On the other hand, Jeff plays it smooth and doesn t let it faze him. The whole
flashback sets us up for the ending and

A Confederacy Of Dunces Chapter 6 Summary
The major turning point in A Confederacy of Dunces is apparent in Chapter 12, when Ignatius
heads to Dorian Greene s political kick off rally. It is apparent that something is wrong at this party
when the chapter starts with someone being sacrificed! Anyways, after Ignatius frees the man, and
heads into the party. Instead of finding political parties, he discovers loud partying and intense
dancing. Dorian then introduces Ignatius to the ladies auxiliary, which excites Ignatius, but the real
ladies auxiliary happens to be three lesbians in the kitchen. This begins the climax. The three girls
start to get into an argument and seem to start a riot. As chairs become raised, Dorian steps in to
calm the situation, and the girls stop fighting. Then Dorian explains that he had to invite them.

Ignatius blocks off his own mother from his room, which she cannot even navigate with all the

It must be an extremely thin line. Ignatius J. Reilly, the main protagonist in A Confederacy of
Dunces, is often described as a modern day Don Quixote. Ignatius embodies creativity,
eccentricity, idealism, and insanity. Aged thirty, he lives with his mother in New Orleans,
Louisiana around 1960. He constantly seeks employment, but cannot find any due to his
obsession with finding the perfect job for him. He destains pop culture and modern trends,
choosing instead to wear ridiculous clothing. This obsession consumes him and he goes to movies
in order to mock their perversity and express his outrage with the contemporary world s lack of
theology and geometry. He refers to himself as Boethius, a famous writer of ancient times. His

The Soviet Union During The Cold War
In 1989, history in the West abruptly shifted course. The communist regimes in Eastern Europe fell,
severing these nations ties to the Soviet Union and sparking unprecedented political and economic
reforms. Two years later, the Soviet Union itself disintegrated. The Cold War ended along with it, a
sharply defined historical era stretching back to 1914. The end of the Cold War renewed the
commitment to democracy and capitalism in the West, accelerated the existing movement toward
unification in Europe, and left the United States standing as the sole military superpower in the
world. But the collapse of communism did not end all the anxieties present during the Cold War
era. The transition in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Unionproved... Show more content on

The Disney Princesses
Some figures that have been very important and influential to young children for a long time are
the Disney Princesses. There are many features about these characters that make them so loved
however after careful analysis is becomes obvious that these are not the kinds of characters
children should be idolizing. Many young girls spend a large amount of their life wanting to be
a princess but Disney s portrayal of princesses makes this not seem so desirable. A princess
according to Disney is a young, virgin, beautiful girl who has a single parent and an unnaturally
skinny body. She falls in love very quickly and her only goal in life is to get married (Daedaluss,
C.). There are nine Disney Princesses that were released between the years of 1937 and 2009.
According to a study done by England D., Descartes L. and Collier Meek M. (567) all of the
Disney Princess movies portray women as having very stereotypical representation of gender.
Over time Disney s portrayal of the princesses have changed but overall there is not a lot of
improvement in regards to the portrayal of gender stereotypes (England, Descartes Collier Meek ,
568). These stereotypes have given young girls misunderstandings about how a woman should
look and behave. The first Disney princess was Snow White from Snow White and the Seven
dwarves released in 1937. Snow White portrays the image as young, innocent and pure. She only
lives with her evil stepmother and her loves doing housework (Daedaluss). She is not

The Digital Possession Of Human Since The 19th Century
1.Publishing is the process of making information available and present to the public. Making
things public or generally known has its impact on the society. When modes of publishing change,
the communicative aspect of the society changes. Information flows differently in the respective
time, and the movement has transformed the social interaction between people.
2.Not only the advancement of publishing text, but also imagery, and I will focus on photography.
Photography is the common possession of human since the 19th century. The purposes of creating
photographs are numerous. The distinctiveness of photo taking creates different meaning, which
had its power to influence the society.
3.This essay will aim to identify and compare two publication technologies, which is the 18th
century photography publishing technology, Daguerreotype, and generally used mobile camera
phone in 21st century.
4.According to Kress and van Leeuwen (1990:23), Viewing an image entails first and foremost,
before anything else has happened, being located in a particular social way by and in relation to
the image . In terms of social relationship, photography is one of the semiotic resources that we use
for communicating. In the past decades, photography acted in a role of recording the diversity of
human behaviour, customs and lifestyle.

Identifying Macromolecules in Common Foods
Abstract: We tested five common food items to determine which macromolecules were present. We
tested for the macromolecules of simple and complex carbohydrates (sugars and starch), lipids, and
proteins. The foods tested were coconut milk, karo syrup, potato chips, peanut butter, and banana
baby food. We hypothesized that coconut milk would contain all four types of macromolecules,
karo syrup would only contain simple sugars which are monosaccharides and/or disaccharides,
potato chips would contain starches and fats, peanut butter would contain sugars, fats, and proteins,
and banana baby food would consist of sugars and starch. Each macromolecule test consisted of five

Simple Carbohydrates (Sugar) Testing: Using Benedict s testing on our food items, we tested
for simple sugars. Six clean test tubes were labeled individually with each testing food item plus
one negative control test tube. Solutions of each food item in the quantity of one full dropperful
was added to each labeled test tube and one full dropperful of water was added to the control
tube. Then, each test tube received one full dropperful of Benedict s reagent and was gently
shaken to mix the solution. Each test tube was then placed in a hot water bath in a beaker of
water on a hot plate for approximately 2 minutes. After approximately 2 minutes, the test tubes
were removed from the water and placed into the test tube rack for us to observe any changes to
the solutions. The resulting states and colors of the test tubes were as follows: The negative control
water was clear and blue in color; coconut milk was opaque with a dark orange precipitate in the
bottom and orange through the rest of its solution; karo syrup was opaque with a dark orange

Marketers now can provide customers more convenient way of purchasing products and services by
the improvement of technology.
2.2.1Advantages of technology
With electronic magazine, marketers can expand their product reach across the country, rather
than just focus in local. In this case, online shopping is one of the examples. Customer can
purchase their needs from online shopping overseas. All they need is to pay for the shipping fees
for it to ship across the country. However some marketers even provide free shipping to their
customers in order to attract them for buying the products. For example, G market provide free
shipping if the purchase made is more than a certain costs.
Improvement of technology enable an organisation to market their product online in order to
make customers life easier. For example, McDonald offered 24 hours delivery through online
service, and payment can be made by credit card or VISA. By doing so, customers that are busy
and have no time to go out to purchase meals are attracted by McDonald 24 hours delivery service.
2.2.2Disadvantages of technology
Increasing number of online shoppers causes worries to the other competitors that do not provide
online service. Online shopping appears to be more attractive as they provide cheaper goods and
almost the same quality as those who own the shops. Marketers who do not

Application Of Theories For Business Decisions
Introduction:
On the following pages i will explain and analyse what is customers and to gain the greater
understanding of needs, wants and attitudes of them with application of theories. Also I will explain
what market is and I will discuss types of information needed to support marketing decisions.
1.What is customer?
Customer is the receiver of a good, product etc. .Acquired from a seller, supplier via a transaction
or exchange for money or something other valuable.
External and internal customers
Customers are divided into two classes (internal, external):
1.An external customer of an organization is the customer who is not directly connected with the
organization.
2.An internal customer of an organization is a customer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
5. Options Customers need to feel that other revenues are available.
Keys to identify the customer s needs:
To ensure the customer satisfaction.
To identify needs you have to ask the right questions.
Check for additional needs.
Use experience and knowledge to offer the right products and services to meet the customer s needs.
Customer wants
Wants are a not exactly the same of needs and are largely dependent on the needs of humans
themselves.
Our wants come from of our personal experience and might demand from countries to country. Also
in lots of times the cultures and tradition in some countries Some important wants of the customers:
To listen what they saying.
They want speed to the service.
They need value.
Positive surprise.
Different between needs and wants:
Wants is a step up in the order of need, and is something that people desire to have. Needs is
necessary for people such as the food, a home etc. From the other hand the wants are not very
necessary for people because they can live without them such us a bike or a pool in the house.
Attitudes of costumers
Attitude in marketing means: A characteristic or future of a product that is thought to appeal to

Comparing Black And Blue, And They Wear The Mask
Black And Blue , by Louis Armstrong and We Wear The Mask , by Paul Laurence Dunbar both
take a further meaning in a profound way of Ellison s work. Louis Armstrong poetically writes
what did I do? Tell me, what did I do to be so black and blue? The way in which it flows suggests
that Armstrong brings what happens in society (desegregation) and incorporates it into his lyrics.
The tempo of the song makes me question, was he sad or happy. Are the lyrics making him out
to be black or white? Black and Blue is a completely different concept and teaching from We
Wear The Mask , being that they want to hide their emotions with a different face. Armstrong
sings I m white on the inside, but that doesn t help my case Cause I can t hide what is on my face
his emotions pour out of emptiness on the inside and he can t help but show it on face.... Show more

  • 2. Mountaineering Should Be Closed Is it worth to risking your life to climbing high mountains or look like a champion? I have any opinions of how I feel about if Everest should be kept closed or opened. Mountaineering is a type of sport that involves climbing on mountains. I don t think that Mt. Everest should be opened and I will be explaining and giving my opinion of why I think Everest should be closed and not to be opened again. First of all, I think that doing mountaineering is a dangerous type of sport because you can put your life at risk if you don t have the right materials. When people go mountaineering on Mt. Everest or when it takes place in winter time, things can fall from the sky and can kill people. In source #2, it states in 2012, there was a wedge of ice that fell and went down to a slope in chunks and the falling ice killed twenty five men and their bodies were never found. The people who do mountaineering should have more advanced materials for their safety and not put their life at risk. It s not just deaths, but serious injuries have occurred because of dangerous sports like this. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In source #2, in Australia, tourists were not allowed to climb the mountains because it was forbidden so people were safe. People that are responsible for mountaineering think that it s not a big deal if someone dies, but I think it is a big deal. Multiple deaths shouldn t happen because it s materials that need to step in and try helping people who are climbing high mountains to prevent these type of situations. • 5. Semantic Web And The Web another day, right now we are sticking to the Semantic Web. We should first wait until the Semantic Web is completed before we jump to the next thing on the list. (Aghaei, Nematbakhsh and Farsani) (Frauenfelder) The million dollar question is: what is the Semantic Web? The Semantic Web is not a completely new web that is going to replace the current web, it is simply and extension from the present web. The idea of Web 3.0 is for the information in the web to be understood and recognized by the computer. Today the web is a big global storage that stores files for humans to read, not computers, humans. This in what the Semantic Webis going to change by allowing computers to read and understand the information and data stored in the web. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A better way to help understand the Semantic Web would be a scenario placed by the Tim Berners Lee. First, imagine that you are registering for an online conference. The website of the conference contains not only the event date, time and location, but also information from the closest hotel and airport. In real and regular life a you would have to make sure you have a time in your schedule that is compatible with the online conference for you to be able to attend. Next you would have to make arrangements for the flight by buying a ticket and for the hotel by reserving a room that meets your needs. According to Berners Lee right now there is no way you can simply say I want to go to the event because you have to make plans by making arrangements. However, with the semantic web this scenario of simply wanting to go without making previous arrangements is possible because with the Semantic Web the airport and hotel arrangements can be done by simply pressing a button. The SM would book your flight and it will reserve your room as well, without you having the need to pick up the phone to call a reservation desk, or you having to visit the hotel s or airport s website. As you can see Web 3.0 can facilitate our tasks tremendously.(Frauenfelder) (Dumbill) (Hendler, Berners Lee and Miller) After reading about what the Semantic Web is it might seem like there is ... • 7. Gender And Gender Equality s Centuries after another and now the present, the twenty first century still faces a huge issue towards the acceptance on gender equality. Nonetheless, women are unappreciated in today s society s workforce. But for Sheryl Sandberg who wrote the article Lean In , believes that any women in the world could be whoever they want to be. Sandberg inspires many girls of today s generation for being a successful woman who followed her dreams and not let inequalities and gender roles affect her. Through Sandberg s hard work, she became the COO of Facebook and eventually became a billionaire. Her successful story was shared on her essay where she stated encouraging aspects of how women should be. Such as, leaning in to their careers instead of stepping back to focus on family. In addition, Sandberg concludes that women shouldn t be afraid of pursuing their ambition because of the negative views that they may receive or even the fear of failing. In other hand, the author of Beyond Lean In , Bell Hooks argues that leaning in is maybe not for everyone. Hooks criticizes Sandberg about her views of how women should be because Hooks thinks that Sandberg did not consider the women with different backgrounds. Furthermore, Hooks did not ignore the fact that some women struggles to succeed on the workforce due to their race and social class. Hooks points out a very legitimate fact because she actually look at different types of women while Sandberg might not be able to relate to that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They suggest the need for mathematics teachers to provide middle school students with relevant self assessment skills effective for mathematics learning. The results also suggest that both low and average achievers can benefit from the self assessment instruction and as such both achievers can explore the skills in self assessment to enhance their mathematics achievement. The Effects of Pressure Groups on the Government A pressure group is an organised interest group, which seek to influence the formulation and the implementation of public policy. In both the United Kingdom and the United States of America, membership to political parties has decreased, meanwhile membership to pressure groups have increased. Pressure groups differ from political parties in that they do not seek to win political office; in addition, they concern themselves with sectional policy rather than a wide range, and therefore pressure groups aim to protect or advance a shared interest. With the diminution in membership of political parties, it appears that people would prefer to invest their energies in pressure groups rather than parties. Within 50 years, membership to the Labour Party has declined from one million to 280,000 members; the Conservative Party s membership has decreased even further from 3 million to 318,000. Meanwhile, membership to organisations such as the National Trust (2.8 million members), and to the Royal Society (one million) has increased. Jordan and Maloney said in 1997 it may seem parties are replaced by pressure groups but people prefer to do very little in public interest groups as opposed to very little in political parties.[1] People prefer pressure groups as they have more chances to involve themselves in politics. They have a chance to protest, petition and lobby which is all part of a healthy democratic society. The term pressure group is a broad term; so political commentator Wyn Grant makes the distinction between insider and outsider groups. Oil: oil is another important ingredient in hand lotions. Some lotions use liquid oils and others use solid oils or butters. Avocado, coconut, Shea, and olive oils are some of the most popular oils used in lotions. Glycerin: it is also known as a humectant. It attracts moisture from the air to the skin and it is also used as a lubricant to make the lotion smooth. Citric acid: this is used as a preservative to prevent the other ingredients from spoiling. Citric acid also helps lower the PH of the lotion and it makes it more suitable for the different skin types. Other ingredients that are used are scents, color, etc. How do hand lotions work? When hand lotion is applied, it creates a barrier on the skin that prevents the oils from escaping and does not allow any harmful substance to enter the skin that can cause dryness or irritation. I have travelled through Philadelphia many times and have passed this impressive Victorian style building. Despite its abandoned and rundown appearance, I have always said that this building had so much beauty and potential. The outside of the building has intricate arching and architecture, and has eye catching brick and stone detailing. Driving down Broad Street, going from North Philly towards the center of downtown, my eyes always drifted to the left to stare at this building a structure somewhat resembling the Tower of Terror from Disney World. After passing this building various times, my mind began to question if this building was at one time a well kept and prosperous place. As I passed this building once more, I took note of the rickety sign that sits on top of the building that reads Divine Lorraine Hotel. I began research on the hotel and had never envisioned the history which stands behind that old desolate building. At one time, the Divine Lorraine Hotel was the place to live in Philadelphia. • 14. The Neuman System Model And Its Impact On Patients And... Betty Neuman is a renowned nursing theorist who developed the Neuman System Model. This model emphasizes stress and the impact it can have on patients and nursing care. Key concepts of this theory include preventions, stressors, and lines of defense. Neuman also addresses the metaparadigms of nursing, health, humanbeing, and environment in relation to her model. The Neuman System Model is recognized by nurses across the globe, and a Neuman System Practice Center has been established to help develop her theory (Gigliotti, 2012, p. 298). This theory can be utilized in any nursing care and is inspiration for other nursing theorists. The Neuman System Model is an open system that responds to stressors in the internal, external, and created environments (Masters, 2015). The model can be applied to physiological, psychological, sociocultural, developmental, and spiritual nursing care making it very diverse in applicability. The Neuman System Model discusses many concepts. One major concept is the idea of stressors and their affects on the patient system. Neuman defines stressors as any phenomenon that might penetrate both the flexible and normal lines of defense, resulting in a positive or negative outcome (Masters, 2015). Types of stressors include intrapersonal, interpersonal, and extrapersonal. Intrapersonal stressors are those that occur within the client system boundary and correlate with the internal environment (Masters, 2015). Interpersonal stressors are those that ... However, his father supported his talent, but he did not believe that art would not lead to a successful life. Dali was a very unique individual. He expressed his dreams through fascinating paintings. I have learned a lot about Dali from this trip. The most interesting thing to me was that he got expelled from college because he refused to take an exam. He was almost done with college but refused to take the exam anyway. It showed that he is filled with courage. He is his own person and no one could tell him different. It also proves to his father that a college degree is not necessary to succeed in life. A stereotype is a fixed belief about someone s religion, gender, or social group. Stereotypes can have positive and negative affects on our society. Often times, people use stereotypes to belittle a group of people. An example of a racial stereotype would include all Hispanics being illegal immigrants. Racial stereotypesalways favor the raceof the holder and put down other races. People use racial stereotypes because it is human nature to recognize patterns. When seeing these patterns within a specific race people often tend to immediately associate him or herself within that society. From a positive point of view stereotypes can give confidence and favor them above a certain group or class of people. Stereotypes such as Asians have high IQs can make them have confidence in themselves. often times it is hard to live up to a positive stereotype. Although we think positive stereotyping is a good thing it really is not. Most positive stereotyping sets the bar unrealistically high and only leaves room for failure. Time is something that everyone takes for granted as being a constant flow, just ticking away, and perpetual. But, in fact, it is something that depends entirely on space time. How do we know that time is relative? Imagine a different kind of clock. This clock is unique because instead of a hand ticking away it is actually a beam of light bouncing between two mirrors. Oliver Twists s Fagin as a Character for Whom the Audience has Considerable Sympathy Oliver Twist was the second novel of Charles Dickens. It was initially published in monthly instalments that began in February of 1837 and ended in April of 1939. The book has been criticised for anti Semitism since Fagin is frequently referred to as the Jew . At the time many Jews, who had fled to England from persecution abroad, were so discriminated against by the law that they became travelling salesmen and stallholders. This illustrates that he is very proud of the children he has brought up to be pickpockets. However, in reality we know that bringing up small boys to steal is something to be frowned upon. Certainly, this shows Fagin is swollen with pride with things of no worth. Fagin is seen as a child abuser when we examine the way he treats the boys in the den. He allows children of a young age to smoke long clay pipes, and drink spirits with the air of middle age men . This gives the impression that the boys are being robbed of their youth at a very young age. Without a doubt, a humane person would not strip the youngsters of their childhood. At first Fagin doesn t want Oliver to know what he is really like. He uses repetition of the word very in the context of him being glad to meet Oliver. He also refers to Oliver as my dear which is an endearing term. Surely, only a kind hearted man, who loved children, would refer to a small boy as this. We are diurnal animals who are active during the daytime and asleep at night, other animals are nocturnal they are active at night but asleep during the day. The circadian rhythm depends on the interaction of physiological and psychological processes to be tuned into the sleep waking cycle so energy is provided when needed. As diurnal humans we have a fairly stable sleep pattern with the time we go to sleep and the time we wake up, this consistency suggests an internal mechanism controls sleep, endogenous pacemaker. When using non humans there needs to be justification to inflict this kind of sacrifice, due to the number of rats that did die during this study is a major concern and as Stephan and Zucker s study was conducted in 1972 before the regulations were tightened, it is unlikely their study would be permitted today. To explain the control of biological rhythms by just referring to endogenous pacemakers such as the SCN is an example of biological reductionism. This is a limited approach as it is partial and does not take account of the interaction of endogenous pacemakers with exogenous zeitgeber. The psychologists assume that the damage to the SCN is the only causation of the disturbed sleep there is no consideration that the sleep waking cycle could be a more complex mechanism. The SCN is connected to the pineal gland which could be the underlying cause of the disturbed sleep, due to the damage of the SCN this connection may mean that melatonin is no longer secreted efficiently. This would suggest that the SCN is only a factor within a larger pathway. Michel Siffre however did take into account the interaction of endogenous pacemakers and exogenous zeitgebers. It also required a great deal of international cooperation in which many countries were not ready to participate. Absolute freedom of naval navigation in either peace or war is quite a long stretch for many of the nations that had just been severely battered and blockaded. International reduction of arms and the removal of economic barriers had the possibility of reducing the defense, both militarily and economically to dangerously low levels. Such suggestions included an evaluation of colonial claims, of Russian territory, and the restoration of states like Romania, Serbia, and Montenegro. Of course, the Alsace Lorraine was to be restored to France, which caused even more of a struggle for Germany to support itself. The poem opens by praising the greatness of the lord and continues into: Who coverest thyself with as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain / Who layeth the beams of his chambers into the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot (Lines 2 3). • 33. Colonialism and Imperialism in Joseph Conrad s Heart of... Joseph Conrad s novella, Heart of Darkness, describes a life altering journey that the protagonist, Marlow, experiences in the African Congo. The story explores the historical period of colonialism in Africa to exemplify Marlow s struggles. Marlow, like other Europeans of his time, is brought up to believe certain things about colonialism, but his views change as he experiences colonialism first hand. This essay will explore Marlow s view of colonialism, which is shaped through his experiences and also from his relation to Kurtz. Marlow s understanding of Kurtz s experiences show him the effects colonialism can have on a man s soul. In Europe, colonialism was emphasized as being a great and noble cause. He says the Romans were conquerors and not colonialists, and explains that what saves the colonialist is the devotion to efficiency and the unselfish belief in the idea (pg.65 66). Yet throughout the novel, Marlow s personal experiences show how colonialism was just that, the robbing of Africa for ivory and profit by Europeans. He ascertains that there were no improvement in Africa like the Europeans claimed, unless the body of a middle aged negro, with a bullet hole in the forehead...may be considered improvement (pg.81). This notion of extreme physical violence is something that threads its way through the novella. The above epitomizes what Marlow thinks about what colonialism really brought to Africa. Some Europeans may have genuinely believed in the idea of colonialism as being noble, but this belief in the idea cannot save the horrible actions of colonialism or make them acceptable. Indeed this false belief in an idea, rather then the practicalities of colonialism only aids to brutality of such actions. Furthermore at the time of the writing of this novella, approximately within the 1800 s, exploration was seen as a wonderful adventure and the period of mapping out the world was well under way. • 36. An Inferential Analysis of Hemingway s Hills Like White... In Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants I found many layers of symbolism, and a fascinating psychological underplay afoot between his two characters. It begins with the girl s comment about a line of white hills seen in the distance, which she compares to white elephants. The man responds with the comment I ve never seen one. The symbolism of a white elephant is widely known as something very large or apparent that no one wishes to acknowledge or speak of in American society. It is an interesting opening to a very strained conversation concerning an apparent pregnancy, and the man s wish to terminate it. The couple s careful avoidance of actually naming the problem, or the proposed solution, suggests the situation in which a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At that point, the waitress tells them the train is due in five minutes. The man escapes with the bags, carrying them to the other tracks. This portion might suggest another symbolic element in the story. Just as the two have switched their life course, they are now switching trains, heading down a set of tracks carrying them towards a different outcome. He retreats to the bar inside, where he has a drink alone while looking at the people waiting reasonably for the train , then rejoins Jig, who smiles at him. And so the struggle between Jig and her lover is resolved. He has won, and she has given up her dream. The elements of the story suggested a carefree couple that traveled and drank their way across foreign landscapes together, with no responsibilities, until suddenly, they faced one of the biggest responsibilities of all. • 38. Theme Of Message In A Hanging By George Orwell Hidden Messages of an Abolitionist A Hanging , composed by George Orwell, is a personal testimony set in the 1920 s in Burma. The narrative depicts the death of an unknown prisoner and the role of those who enforce the death sentence. Through the process of the execution, Orwell illustrates the effects of capital punishment on the executioners and the executed in an attempt to convey an Abolitionist message. While stated only once in his story, Orwell takes an emphatic position against capital punishment. The author does not use the classic argumentative style; instead, he uses implications of his characters to present the four main points against capital punishment. George Orwell s Abolitionist message in A Hanging is conveyed through the prisoner, dog, functionaries, and their actions, words, and body language. Orwell implies that capital punishment dehumanizes by illustrating the prisoner s living conditions and treatment. George Orwell describes the prisoner s cell as an animal cage (99). By giving the prisoner s environment animalistic qualities, Orwell implies the condemned man is not treated in a humane manner. In doing this, Orwell insinuates that capital punishment dehumanizes the prisoner. Similarly, the author relates the treatment of the condemned man to a fish. He states, It was like men handling a fish which is still alive and may jump back into the water (99). By explaining the treatment of the prisoner and the way the guards handle him, George Orwell implies capital punishment dehumanizes everyone involved. During the execution, the author also conveys that the prisoner is not guilty by emphasizing his religion. Orwell recounts the prisoner s cry of Ram or Rama (101), the Hindu god, before his death. According to Mark Cartwright, an expert in Greek Philosophy, Ram is a representation of purity. In Hindu culture, a person capable of uttering Ram before death has good within them. George Orwell and Mark Cartwright consequentially insinuate the condemned man s innocence. Furthermore, Orwell implies the prisoner s guiltlessness through the actions of the servants. The five paragraph theme requires an introductory paragraph, three middle paragraphs that each have their own ideas, and a concluding paragraph. Nunnally believes that this writingmodel should only be used as a writing tool and not the backbone to all essays (Nunnally). I agree with Nunnally s stance, but also think that by the age of sixteen, students should no longer be given the opportunity to rely on the model for writing opportunities. ** The five paragraph theme was created to be a general teaching tool for inexperience writers. It allows the writers to easily formulate a structure essay. It tells you that you only need three supporting details for your thesis and that each do not need to be in depth. Most teachers say that a paragraph is only roughly 4 5 sentences long. As a result, if every paragraph is short then you re only writing approximately 20 25 sentences. A writer can easily follow the structure given and finish an essay in a well timely manner. The model is effective for beginners, but ineffective for professionals (Nunnally). In fact, NTUC s Secretary General Lim Chee Onn in 1982 openly stated that the PAP and NTUC come from the same womb. This elitist society as evidenced goes against the definition of a trade union, as the members of a trade union should be the common man who isn t part of any elitist group. The PAP government believes that the NTUC should have elite leadership to guide the non elite leaders and the ordinary members of the union. Women have been fighting for equal rights and equal pay since the 19th century and it is about time women and men doing the same job are paid the same amount. The solution to this is simple: pay women and men equal wages for equal work. This would seem to be common sense, but it is still something we are fighting for. Census data shows median yearly income for men in Travis County is approximately $10,000 higher than for women (kxan.com). Born in 1507 BC, Hatshepsut was the longest reigning female pharaoh, who was in power from almost twenty two years. Queen Hatshepsut is often considered to be one of the most successful pharaohs in the history of ancient Egypt. Daughter to Egyptian king, Thutmose I, and his principal wife, Ahmose, Hatshepsut was destined to be the queen one day. King Thutmose I also had another child with one of his lesser wives, Thutmose II. After her father s death, twelve year old Hatshepsut was married off to her half brother, Thutmose II. Marrying within your family was common during that time period because they wanted to keep the royal bloodline pure. King Thutmose II s reigned over the Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt for fifteen years, and Hatshepsut took the traditional role as queen and principal wife. During Thutmose II and Hatshepsut s marriage, Hatshepsut bore a daughter, Neferure, but no sons. However, Thutmose II had a male heir, Thutmose III, with one of his lesser wives. At the time of Thutmose II s death, Thutmose III was still an infant, unable to ascend the throne unaided. Hatshepsut initially served as Thutmose III s regent, until, for reasons unknown, Hatshepsut assumed the role of pharaoh. While Hatshepsut never officially gained possession of the crown because Thutmose III was never uncrowned, it was clear that Hatshepsut was the primary ruler. Thinking about how Ellison wrote the women in Invisibles life, they don t hold much importance to him besides ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
