Stock Options
Many years ago stock options were rarely used as incidental benefits for top executives. Nowadays,
compensating employee whit stock options has become an increasingly common practice. Before
the year 1996, only the intrinsic value method was used to record these transactions. This method
distorted the issuer s reported financial condition and results of operations, which could lead to
inappropriate decisions taken by investors. Followed by the increased use of employee stock
options and the surrounding controversy of its recording method, on the year 1996 the fair value
method was introduced to be used as an alternative to the intrinsic method and on 2004 the intrinsic
value method was completely discontinued. The Fair value method... Show more content on

The fair value of an option grant ideally would be based on the observable market price of the
option or of one with similar terms and conditions. As the market price is not usually observable,
fair value measurement techniques use option pricing models such as a Black Scholes model, a
Monte Carlo simulation technique, or a lattice model to determine a fair value of an option that is,
one that accounts for factors such as the stock price at the grant date, the strike price, the expected
life of the option (that is, the expected period of time between the grant date and the exercise date),
the volatility of the underlying stock and the expected dividends on it, and the risk free interest rate
over the expected life of the option. Assuming that the fair value option pricing model determines
the company s total compensation expense to be $300,000, then this company will expense
$100,000 each of the following three years. The 2004 requirement eliminated the use of the intrinsic
value based method and thus addressed users and other parties concerns of financial statements
distortions by requiring an entity to recognize the cost of employee services received in share based
payment transactions, thereby reflecting the economic consequences of those transactions in the
financial statements. By requiring the fair value method for all

Five Forces Analysis Essay
Five Forces Analysis
The industry being analyzed is the tobacco industry. The tobacco industry manufacturer cigarettes,
snuff, chewing tobacco, etc.
Customers
a.The customers are the wholesalers and retailers of tobacco products. There are a large amount of
customers in this industry, which makes the customers not very powerful.
b. I believe the customers do make high volume purchases, which would make them powerful.
c. The purchases customers make from the industry are the same relative to the amount expended
for items from other industries. This causes the customer to have moderate power.

d.The tobacco industry definitely needs the tobacco growers service to survive, making the
suppliers powerful.
e.The tobacco growers (suppliers) do not have differentiation in their product. This weakens their
power because the tobacco industry does not have to pay more for the tobacco because it is
basically all the same.
f.It is not costly to switch suppliers. Some companies choose to switch to a less expensive supplier
in order to lower the cost of their products. This weakens the power of the suppliers.
g.The suppliers can not easily vertically integrate forward and become their own customer because
of the many costs in manufacturing tobacco.
h.Overall, I believe the suppliers are highly powerful in the tobacco industry.
Existing Industry Competitors
a. Overall, the growth rate of the industry is moderate. Tobacco consumption is rising rapidly in
developing countries. However, in the U.S. cigarette consumption has been slipping by about two
percent per year. This means that there is a moderate level of competition for the existing tobacco
industry competitors.
b.There is a mixture of fixed costs and variable costs associated with this industry. This keeps
competition at a moderate level because the companies want to increase sales possibly by lowering
costs and still earn a profit.
c.There is a high

Why Is John C Calhoun Effective
John C. Calhoun
Intro: John C. Calhoun, born in South Carolina, was an eminent U.S statesman and believed
that slavery was crucial to America s way of life. Calhoun was a strong promoter for states rights
and an advocate for the south. As a young congressman, Calhoun was elected to South Carolina s
legislature in 1808 and then became a member of the house of representatives in 1811. As a
nationalist, he found himself as one of the leading war hawks and was also appointed vice
president in 1824 and then was re elected in 1828 and eventually ended his career as senator for
South Carolina.

Of Michaelangelo Merisi Da Caravaggio s Young Sick Bacchus
Wine and Rome have an intertwined history, both developing and expanding together. Wine is an
integral part of Italian daily life, it was even consumed regularly in ancient times and was a staple
of social life. Viticulture began as early as 1200 BC and continued to grow into what it is today
(Lorenzo). Therefore, wineis just as old as Romeitself. Throughout Rome s history, it is clear that
wine plays an important role in art and in daily social life. It is integral to understand the
importance of wine in order to grasp the basics of Roman daily life as it was thousands of years
ago. In art, wine is depicted in various ways either through gods, grapes, symbols, or quite
simply, a cup of wine. In Michaelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio s painting created in 1594 entitled
Young Sick Bacchus, wine is portrayed through the representation of the Roman god of wine,
Bacchus (also referred to as Dionysus) (Aronson). Young Sick Bacchus demonstrates how
important wine was due to the fact that it is being represented through a god with an interesting
history and religion that can be explored, and it also gives a glimpse into the history of Italys most
renowned artist, Caravaggio. This paper will discuss the appeal and importance of the painting due
to its portrayal of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although originally Greek and called Dionysus, Bacchus was important in Roman society.
Bacchus was the god of wine and ecstasy and was worshipped as early as 13th century BC (

mortal ( Dionysus ). To prove his love, Semele requested that Zeus reveal his true form and upon
complying, Semele exploded because Zeus s power was too great to handle. Bacchus, who was
still in his mother s womb at the time, was saved by Zeus and was sewn into his thigh until he was

Quit Piano Lesson
Response: Most kids don t quit piano after six years of lessons. I did. After six year of lessons,
forced practices, time, and money, I made the big decision a year and a half ago to quit piano
and cello and start violin. The piano was there as long as I could imagine, and after six years of
playing that monster, you don t quit, it s just not practical. The cello came in when I was 10, I
was small at that time, a little over 4 feet, and after 3 years of practice and hard work, you don t
give up. Cramped, constricted, confined, in my state of mind these two instruments made me feel
that I lost my freedom, my body frozen, only able to move my fingers and my hands, and nothing
more. Yet I played both, unable to comprehend why cello made me feel

The former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo said Jones was like a heroin addict, saying that Jones
heroin was money. Jones retaliated by saying We would make the players and teams in this
league more money if we were all responsible for our own marketing. The more you grow the pie,
the more you grow the league. People say I m a maverick and not a team player, but I believe in
revenue sharing. I just think there s more revenue to share out there (King 100). On August 3,
1995, Jones announced a deal with Pepsi that allowed that company to become the official
supplier of soft drinks at Texas Stadium; a stadium which Jones owns. The league disagreed
because Coke was already the NFL s official soft drink sponsor. But 10 days later, New England
Patriot owner Robert Kraft, who owns Foxboro Stadium, unveiled a similar deal with Pepsi; and
no one seemed upset around the league. Jones also signed Deion Sanders last year to a $35 million
contract with Dallas. Around the league there was grumbling that Jones was abusing the salary cap
of the NFL. Of course the San Francisco 49ers had done the same thing for the same player a year
before. Jones contributions and innovations in the areas of marketing, corporate sponsorships,
television, stadium management, stadium development and community service have made a
visible imprint on the ever evolving face of professional sports in America.

The Columbian Exchange Between The New World And The Old...
The Columbian exchange is an interchange of plants, ideas, diseases and many more things
traded between the New World and the Old World during the 15th and 16th century. It all began in
1492 after Christopher Columbus went on his voyage and discovered the New World. After
discovering the New World many milestones in history began to form. Following in his steps of
his new discovery came some of the Europeans. Since the Colombian exchange began, many things
have been brought to America and many things have been sent over in the directions. The Old
World has brought over many supplies as in sugar, coffee, horses and smallpox. The Americas
brought to them corn, cocoa beans, and tomatoes in their exchange. Not only did the old and the
new world bring great things to each other, they also brought diseases and a decrease in the
population of the new world. Instead of the old world taking in the new world s culture, it was
reversed. The new world had taken in the old world s way of lifestyle.
During the exchange of goods and people moving to the new world brought sickness and diseases.
The most common diseases the Old World brought were smallpox, measles, malaria, yellow fever,
influenza, chicken pox. The most destructive disease out of all the ones brought to America were
the smallpox. Small pox is a contagious, disfiguring and a deadly disease. The small pox started
with the animals, and once the animals started being brought over and the disease was then

Nullarbor Plain Analysis
The Nullarbor Plain. The Nullarbor Plain is a karst landscape located on the border of South
Australia and Western Australia. It stretches across 200,000km squared. It is the Australia s
largest karst landscape and it is the world s largest piece of limestone. It is located 30.7678
degrees south and 128.9700 degrees east. The Nullarbor Plain is elevated at 64 metres above sea
level. The name Nullarbor comes from the Latin for no trees , but the landscape is covered in
small hardy shrubs such as bluebush that are drought resistant and salt tolerant. The Nullarbor
Plain has an average yearly rainfall of less than 250mm, so there are no streams on the plain. The
small amount of rain that does fall either evaporates or is lost to the limestone.

Macbeth is a play in which a Lord and his Lady come into supreme power through acts of injustice
and despicable inhumanities. In the play Macbeth there is no main focal theme that overrules the
others; the play however has several underlying themes, namely there are important themes i.e.
good and evil (like ying and yang), greed and power, guilt and conscience, fear, ambition this leads
to the murder of other people illustrating to the reader that even the most sane of people can result
to character diminishing methods to get what they want. These particular themes are the most
prominent and when closely looked at, it can help to understand characters and meanings behind the

women, money, power. These were all three things that tempted Macbeth. Lady Macbeth seems
quite the contrary to how women in Elizabethan England would have been, the only women
were able to obtain power was by influencing their husbands. This was a great advantage of Lady
Macbeth s on which she played and used very successfully. She was able to influence her husband
so strongly that she convinced him willingly into committing murder willingly; Shakespeare
displays the strength of power that women have the ability to possess if they wish, he conveys
women as sneaky and willing to result to extreme tactics to get their own way; it shows just how
dangerous women can be. Shakespeare uses Lady Macbeth as an icon for powerful women.
Lady Macbeth is a complex and intriguing character in Shakespeare s play, Macbeth. She is a
difficult character to embody as her personality seems split between two sides, one that is pure
evil, sly and conniving in contrast to her softer, vulnerable, weak and feminine side. In the play
we see her in these two main ways. The reader may feel a certain animosity towards Lady Macbeth
throughout the first few acts as her personality appears more and more distasteful, in spite of this
towards the end she has a serious breakdown over the guilt that torments her, even in her sleep,
regarding her hand in Duncan s untimely death.
The actions and malevolent tones in which she uses in Act 1 Scene 5 is very shocking, we all have
stereotypes of how

Beauty Standards For Black Women
It does not come as a surprise that women, in large, are dissatisfied with their bodies. This
widespread body dissatisfaction amongst women was coined normative discontent (Rodin,
Silberstein, Streigel Moore, 1984). Although body dissatisfaction seemingly plagues women as a
whole, there are several factors that can either serve as a protective factor or a risk factor for the
development of body dissatisfaction. Much of the research regarding this normative discontent
excludes culturally relevant factors for African American(Black) women. Looking specifically at
African American women, the factors that affect body image and body dissatisfaction greatly differ
from those that affect non minority White women. Skin tone or complexion,... Show more content

Participants in the study reported feelings of inadequacy in comparison to their lighter skinned
counterparts in everything from school competitions to mate selection. These feelings of
inadequacy remained prevalent from childhood through adulthood. Media also plays a key role
in how the skin tone bias is perpetuated. Rap and Hip Hop music videos often portray lighter
skinned women as the love interest of the main character or the woman the male finds sexually
desirable (Wallace, Townsend, Glasgow, Ojie, 2011). Movies and television programs targeted
towards African Americans may also have a light skinned woman as the successful, attractive
character with a juxtaposing character who is darker, loud, obnoxious, and often fits into the
sassy sidekick trope. A popular Black situational comedy in the 1990s, Martin, was a prime
example of this (Walter et al., 1992). The main character s girlfriend Gina, was a successful,
beautiful lighter skinned woman and her best friend, Pam, was dark skinned and often the
recipient of Martin s jokes about her appearance. Exposure to these repeated stereotypes for Black
women only furthers the notion that light skin is somehow superior to dark skin. This could mean
that for African American women, having darker skin is a risk factor for developing body
dissatisfaction.

inventory (Magalhaes, Magalhaes, Noblitt, and Lewis, 2012). Millon theorized that certain
personality prototypes are directly related to certain disorders. This test takes approximately 25

The 175 items are self report true false items. The MCMI III measures 14 personality disorders
and 10 clinical syndromes (Strack, Millon, 2007). It utilizes an ordinal scale to measure how
well the examinee fit the constructs being measured. Each construct is split into two groups of
items. One type of item (prototype) represents features that are unique to a disorder, and the other
type of item (peripheral) represents features that may be similar to different construct item
(Strack, Millon, 2007). This accounts for why there is so much crossover between constructs.
The prototypal items are weighted two and the peripheral items are only weighted one. The item
weighting system of the MCMI III was changed to a two point system in comparison to the three
point systems used in previous versions (Craig Bivens, 1998). The 24 scales are broken down into
four sections designed to distinguish between the personality characteristics (Axis II) and the
disorder displayed (Axis I) (Millon et al., 1994). The moderate personality disorder scales consist
of Schizoid, Avoidant, Depressive, Dependent, Histrionic, Narcissistic, Antisocial, Aggressive,
Compulsive, Passive Aggressive, and Self defeating disorders (Millon et al., 1997). Schizotypal,
Borderline, and Paranoid Disorder make up the severe personality pathology scales (Millon et al.,
1997). The moderate clinical syndrome scale is composed of Anxiety, Somatoform, Bipolar: Manic,

they do not peruse the scripture for direction the person goes to a dentist. This view is not solid
for its very premise is flawed. When dealing with man s troubling emotions and thinking scripture

Dr. Hawkins model for the counseling process and the description of the person is diagrammed
using concentric circles (Hawkins, 2011). The first layer is where the core is: human spirit, image
of God etc. The second layer consists of the soul thoughts, will, conscience, feeling. The third layer
consist of the body. The fourth layer consists of temporal systems such as family, friends, church,
society, government, economy, and education. The fifth layer consists of supernatural systems such
as: God, good angels, demons, and Satan.
Hawkins uses a four phase model grid for tracking process. Phase1 is where the counselor listens
to the person talk and seeks to understand. Phase 2 is where one tracks what the patient is saying
and sets the direction and proposes a plan of action. In phase 3 one directs the plan of action from
the information provided and seeks to have client take ownership. In phase 4 one supports the
commitments to change through arranging for accountability. All of this takes place in an

Labeling theory is also to deterministic; it says that once you re negatively labeled that s it, you ll
fail this isn t always the case. Some sociologist may argue that even though working class
students are often labeled and streamed into low achieving section, they are far from discouraging
students, it often makes students more likely to want to work hard to prove their teachers wrong.
This was proved in research in which black young girls were streamed into lower ability classes,
and were then determined to do better than they would have if they were labeled as high achievers.
Negative labelling and putting students into different streams or bands can cause some pupils to
rebel against school values. As a response to negative labelling and frustration with low status,
pupils may form antmaxine hingstoni school subcultures or vice versa and create a pro school
subculture.
Hargreaves said there were two distinctive subcultures emerged within the school; conformist and

Importance Of Allocation Of Land In Kenya
24.1 Allocation of public land It involves the state or the government transferring its rights, use,
and ownership of land to the citizens of the country, According to section 12(1) of the Land Act,
the National Land Commission (NLC) has responsibilities of allocating public land on behalf of
the National or County Governments.(Source: Guides on Land Administration in Kenya).
Alienation of land to members is done by passing through the following law applications which
include Local Government Act, Physical Planning Act, Land Control Act, Government Land
Act, and others. Planning process on public land are drawn up by the National Land
Commission so as to prepare for physical development and these plans should be approved by
the various physical planning officers for confirmation or any changes and then transferred to
the final office known as the ministry of land for approval then to the Department of surveyors
to survey the land and various measurements and others process that follow afterwards during the
development process .The main disadvantage of this process is acquiring a land title after
allocation of land can be very long and tedious. The steps involved during the procedure of
acquiring a title deed after allocation of public land include acceptance of an offer to the
National Land Commission, land surveying, preparation of lease documents, clearance of
payments (stamp duty and getting the rent and clearance certificate), and registration of the
lease. 2.4.2 Adjudication It can be defined as recording rights and interests of land/ existing
rights and claims of people to land. This process is governed by the Land Adjudication Act Cap
287, adjudication is also when a title to land is registered for the first time/ first stage in the
registration of title to land in areas where the ownership of the parcel of land is unknown. After
the land adjudication process, a land adjudication register is created. The adjudication register is
composed of a demarcation map and adjudication record. Each parcel number of land is indicated
on the map which corresponds to the adjudication record that contains the registration section,
parcel number, name of the owner, and size of the land and details of the registry map

The Timeless Power of Les Miserables
The Timeless Power of Les Miserables
The book Les Miserables, written by Victor Hugo in 1862, created a sensation throughout the world
(Royston and Schlesinger 2). That impression continued through theatrical productions and most
recently the musical, but the book contains greater detail and adds a deeper understanding of
Hugo s epic story than the movie or musical portray. Regretfully, few people in World society take

Daughter to the Thenardiers, Eponine adores Marius who sees her merely as a friend. This creates a
vague love triangle between Eponine, Marius, and Cosette. Along with the personal stories
surrounding Valjean s life, the beginning of the French Revolution encompasses the lives of all the
characters. The feeling of discontentment among the people and loyalty to the barricade helps to
shape the outcome of each individual sub plot. The outcome of each story affects Valjean s life in
various ways and degrees. Society today anticipates an action filled novel to entertain them, and Les
Miserables provides intense action through its many stories without confusing or boring the reader.
Finally, the theme of Les Miserables still entices people in this decade. Dwight Hillis describes
the theme by stating, Les Miserables is unique, in that it exhibits the worst man as having a
divine spark that no injustice can extinguish, a spark which God guards and feeds, making it
incorruptible in this life and immortal in the next (123). The idea that goodness always prevails
and receives its award strongly exists in the hopes of people today as it did when Hugo wrote the
novel. Jean Valjean stems from the classification as a thief and rises through his good deedsin life
to become a saint (Lee 1). Not only do people today enjoy reading about the good defeating the
evil, they also envision that defeat as a possibility in

Adam Smith And Jean Jacques Rousseau
ADAM SMITH AND JEAN JACQUES ROUSSEAU.
Adam Smith(1723 1790) and Jean Jacques Rousseau(1712 1770) each provide their own distinctive
social thought. Smith, political economist and moral philosopher, is regarded as the father of
modern economics. Rousseau, a Franco Swiss social and political philosopher, combines
enlightenment and semi romantic themes in his work. Thus Smith s work places emphasis on the
relationship between economics and society, whereas, Rousseau focuses his attention on the social
inequalities within society. Therefore, Smith and Rousseau, of the Scottish and Continental
Enlightenment respectively, provide unique insights on their existing society.

For Adam Smith, the development of a commercial society produced a social structure divided
into three classes, landowners, capitalists, and labourers, the three great constituent orders of
every civilized society (Smith, 1998:27). Thus, Smith s ideal society would be of people would
work for themselves. He was a strong advocate for free market and posed strong opposition to the
feudal system. He, along with other Enilghtenment thinkers, believed that the State had no
legitmate role in the free market. Smith s defence of the free market was tied to the belief that
state interference with the market benefits the rich and hurts the poor(Lecture Notes, 2001:5).
Therefore, Adam Smith s vision of an ideal society was one in which most people are involved in
independent commodity production(Lecture Notes, 2001:5). Thus for society to develop and
prosper as a whole, its individual members must serve their self interests.
Jean Jacques Rousseau s work, in contrast to Smith s, gives attention to the social inequalities
within society created by social development. Rousseau believes the social development that the
Scottish Enlightenment thinkers advocate, actually create a web of problems that previously did
not exist. More specifically, his work concentrates on the articificial social inequalities. The artifical
refers to the specifically socially or conventional aspects of reality the conditions of human life that

The Relationship Between Osteoporosis And Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis, also known as porous bone, is a disease characterized by low bone mass and
structural deterioration of bone tissue which leads to bone fragility and an increased risks of the
hip, spine, and wrist. Both men and women are affected by this (although it affects women more)
but it can be prevented and treated. In the United States, more than 40 million people either already
have osteoporosisor at a high risk because of low bonemass.
Sir Astley Paston Cooper was a famous English physician, anatomist, and surgeon who first
discovered the association between fractures and bone density reduction because of aging which
created the base for discovering Osteoporosis. Another person who helped with the discovery of
osteoporosis was Jean Lobstein. Around 1833, Lobstein was the first person to medically describe
the pathological condition and appearance of Osteoporosis. He described the condition as, One
with holes in the bone associated with fragility . He was also the one who named the disease.
Another important discovery of the disease is the relationship between osteoporosis with the
postmenopausal state, which was discovered by Fuller Albright. Albright discovered that there is a
direct relationship between the lack of estrogen after menopause and the development of
osteoporosis. After menopause, bone breakdown outrun the building of new bone. Early
menopause, usually before the age of 45, and any prolonged period in which hormone levels are
low and menstrual

Who Is Hester Prynne In The Scarlet Letter
In a famous novel called The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Hester Prynne receives many
criticisms for being portrayed as a pure character. Among those criticisms, literary critic D. H.
Lawrence provides a powerful and reasonable explanation to why Hester Prynne does not deserve
such admiration. Additionally, Lawrence facilitates his viewpoints by arguing that Hester Prynneis
the cause for the sin of adultery. D. H. Lawrence applies precise diction, biblical allusion, and
dramatic verbal irony in his essay to emphasize Hester Prynne as the character who should be
recognized for her offense. Lawrence uses precise diction to express his negative attitude towards
Hester Prynne. Hester Prynne is an atrocious influence to others as Lawrence states, Oh, Hester,
you are a demon. A man must be pure, just that you can seduce him to a fall (Lawrence). Lawrence

Coca Cola is a much better balance sheet than Pepsico, even managing to have more cash on hand
than debt during much of this time frame (SeekingAlpha.com, 2012).
After comparing the two it is companies, I would recommend that Coca Cola is the better pick as
far as who to invest in if given the opportunity to invest in one or the other. Through analyzing the
many ratios and utilizing the components to accurately rationalize the status of the financial
stability of the two companies Coca Cola has proved to have a higher financial accountability.
There are many factors that brought me to this conclusion. Just look at the statements you can see
that Pepsi Co. has more liabilities than Coca Cola and that would generally be the case since Pepsi
Co. has monies invested in other products and Cola does not have any other involvements in other
products.

Comparing Grendel And Beowulf
After reading the classic Anglo Saxon tale, Beowulf, readers find themselves engrossed in the
character of Grendel. This interest led to John Gardner s creation of Grendel, a novel that tells
Grendel s side of the story and gives readers a deeper understanding of the character s personality
and morals. While the two stories use the same characters, they are still extremely different.
Beowulfs predictable narrative and basic language make the story very easy to comprehend, while
Grendelis filled with complex phrasing and intricate characters that require intense analyzation to
decipher. The analyzation required to truly understand Grendel displays the varying audiences the
stories were written for. Grendel and Beowulf also use completely different... Show more content on

The theme coming of age is included in both compositions. Throughout Grendel, Grendel
struggles to come to terms with who he is and frequently straddles the border between adulthood
and childhood. For example, after getting stuck in a tree, Grendel cries out for his mother and
then moments later contemplates the meaning of life: The king snatched an ax from the man
beside him and, without any warning, he hurled it at me... I bellowed for my mother...I tried to
tell her that happened, all that I d come to understand: the meaningless objectiveness of the
world... (Gardner 27 28). This bouncing back and forth between a child s mindset and an adult s
shows Grendel s gradual coming of age. Beowulf s main character, Beowulf, is forced to endure
many quests that challenge him not only physically, but mentally forcing him to come of age as
well. Beowulf has to question many of the things he thought he knew, resulting in him growing
wiser, much like Grendel. For example, during his fight with Grendel, Beowulf first says he does
not want the help of his Thanes, but when Grendel starts to beat him, his Thanes are forced to step
in (Beowulf Lines 80 100). This teaches Beowulf that he needs to accept help in the end and does
not always have to accomplish things on his own, something he uses to his advantage in later
battles. Altogether, both Grendel and Beowulf

Hilary Putnam s Twin Earth Scenario
Introduction In Meaning and Reference , Hilary Putnam famously produced the twin earth
scenario to argue for semantic externalism (henceforth externalism), the view that the meaning of
some expressions is partly determined external to the speaker s mental states. In this essay I will
first lay out Putnam s argument for externalism. Then I will extend his scenario and show that
externalism faces various problems. Lastly, I will cast doubt on Putnam s idea that the essence
of the term water is its molecular structure. Hence Putnam s twin earth scenario fails to establish
externalism. Putnam s Twin Earth Scenario Suppose that there is a twin earth which is almost
exactly like earth. However, they differ in that the substance earthlings call water is not H2O,
but is XYZ on twin earth. XYZ is different in chemical composition from H2O but looks and
behaves like H2O. Like H2O, XYZ is colorless, odorless, boils at a hundred degree Celsius, and
so on. Next, let Oscar be an earthling and twin Oscar be a twin earthling. Both are in 1750 and do
not know the chemical composition of what they call water. They have the same psychological
states when they use the term water. Putnam takes the reference of water ... Show more content on

Recall that Putnam s intuition was that if another liquid had the same superficial properties as our
water (H2O) but differed in molecular constitution, then we would not call it water. It is this
premise that is highly questionable. Putnam offers no argument for this and bases it off intuitions.
However, I do not share such intuitions and neither do many experts in the field of philosophy of
chemistry and metaphysics. Jaap van Brakel goes as far as to conclude, Because it turns out that
no clear meaning, if any, can be given to the notion of molecular structure, it is not possible to
specify what the reference and essence of water is in terms of its molecular

The Effect Of Helicopter Parenting
Helicopter parenting is a form of upbringing where a parent is more likely to help their child with
all of their problems. It is not uncommon for these parents to pay their child s bills and continue
doing their laundry among other things when they ve reached their secondary education (e.g.
College, University). (Meno) This type of parent doesn t necessarily control everything the child
does, but they protect them from any possible loss or failure in attempt to help them succeed.
Though many have different views on the parentingmethod, more research must be done in order to
assess its effectiveness. Though there have been countless books and studies on parenting, there
have only been a handful that thoroughly looked at the effects of helicopter parenting in particular.
Research has been put into the effects on skill development in children, commitment, and emotional
stability throughout their life. In order to understand where these effects stemmed from, research
was done to compare education level at a young age between those with helicopter parents and those
without.
Impact on Skill Development When in an educational environment, it s easy to split apart those
who tried to achieve a higher grade point average, and those who didn t. This is not necessarily a
reflection of intelligence level, but rather a difference in motivation. Students with helicopter
parents tend to be less engaged in their school work when compared to those with less protective
parents. (Sharon)

What Was The Role Of Women In The 18th Century
The Women present during the time period 1650 1800 were definitely the unsung heroes who not

Women during 18th century made a remarkable contribution to literature, which involved the

entries that involve a wide variety of information on specific subjects such as political theory (Fiero,

was regarded as a monumental achievement (Fiero, 144). On the political spectrum, Mary

War Of The Worlds Analysis
The War of the Worlds (1953) is science fiction, but shot in pseudo documentary style using real

Reflection On Pre-Service Reflection
5.Reflect upon your answer from #1 in the pre service reflection regarding your fears, concerns,
expectations and perceived challenges that you wrote about. How were your initial thoughts
confirmed or denied? Address any biases or stereotypes that you discovered that you had.
Working with the students at the Be a Leader Foundation this semester, I realized that many
while many of my fears were correct, I discovered a bias I did not even know I had. Going into
the Be a Leader Foundation, I was afraid that I would not able to relate to the student because they
are going through more difficult situations in their lives. One example of this was a young 7th

need with high quality, filling meals. I go to the center often, to pack meals that get sent to various

difference to kids who do not always have access to sustainable meals. Volunteering at these two
organizations makes me feel like I am becoming more civically engaged in my community.
B. What can you do to be a civically engaged educator or teacher? As a teacher, I will be more
civically engaged by not only continue my involvement in the community, but also by teaching my
students to become more involved through service learning lessons. Service learning can be an
important tool as an educator because the students can learn the academic content while also
participating in a service project of their own. Service learning also helps strengthen the student s
knowledge of their assignment because they can apply their knowledge to real life situations. With
service learning activities, students will also discuss people in need, and what they can do as
student. They learn to think creatively and come up with new solutions to

The Effects Of Interpersonal Competence On Interpersonal...
Introduction
Interpersonal competence is an aspect of communication that is rarely given attention despite being
a crucial facet of human interaction. In fact, Beebe et al. argue that it is comparable to breathing for
being do critical to human growth (2). According to Beebe et al., this aspect of communication is
necessary to maintain relationships and to improve affairs between lovers (6 7). To enhance our
competence in interpersonal communication, we need to learn and master ways of verbally relating
with others. One aspect that is greatly abused interpersonal communication is the inclusion of
emotions when relaying and receiving information especially when anger is used (West and Turner
238). This review seeks to analyze emotion in communication and formulate a theoretical
framework of its role in communication and suggest an action plan for the same.
The Role of Emotion in Interpersonal Communication
It is surprising that people rarely consider the intensity of inclusion of emotions when interacting
with others. In communication, it gets even worse because we end up using the aspect of emotion
to interpret what is being passed (Beebe et al. 82). One theory that explain best how emotions play
a role communication is the James Lange Theory of Emotion (Beebe et al. 42). This model was
developed by William James and Carl Lange and shows how emotion can be used to impact
negatively on the communication process. According to Beebe et al., the James Lange Theory of
Emotion is

Essay on The Practice of Music Censorship
Music censorship has taken many forms in the past, but many forms are overbearing and
generally ridiculous. Censorship comes in many forms. The practice of censorship is defined as
...the act of changing or suppressing speech or writing that is considered subversive of the
common good. (Merriam Webster). Old forms of censorship included not allowing airplay, refusal
of sale, and refusal of publishment. The major issue found with those that oppose censorship, is
that they have no real grounds to address the problem sensibly. Most focus of censorship, however,
is focused on the younger genres of music such as Metal, Punk, and especially Rap. The structure

There is no area for the language to be expressed and let be untouched.(EO) Much of America s
censorship has seen specific targets in what has been chosen to be censored. A wondrous
example would be the foreign metal pop influence band, Rammstein. A number of their songs
were banned from television, or were not permitted to play on daytime airtimes.(Rammstein) An
example of one of their songs banned, is a track that s titled Ich Will. When this track s name is
translated to english, it reads I want. The video accompanying the song portrays the band
committing crimes of terrorism, then later receiving airtime for their behaviour. Politicians
actually moved to have the video and song banned from the US on account of the behaviour
shown in the video.(Rammstein) References of bands being dis promoted for their portrayals in
lyrics and video accompaniments go on for ages. A short list of examples of songs/ artists that
saw censorship in newer music consists of Tell Me Baby, (RHCP), also Killing in the Name of,
(Rage Against the Machine) and Closer, (NIN) So overall, Music has it s own particular area of
censorship which is unique and flawed in it s own way. Although there have been some more recent
changes in music to support the freedom of artists, the past has been condemning and rough for
artists to easily express, themselves through their

Descartes Second Meditation Essay
To gain a better understanding of readings in philosophy one must follow some important steps.
Just reading a passage once or twice is not enough as readings in regards to philosophy can
sometimes be overwhelming and complex, for first time readers to comprehend. Readers need to
have good comprehension skills and a good background in vocabulary. Maria, you stated, In the
second meditation, Descartes hits upon a belief which he cannot doubt. What is this belief and why
is it immune from doubt? Evaluate Descartes s claim about the certainty of this belief. I hope you

Descartes thinks he finds a belief which he cannot doubt. What is this belief and why is it
immune to doubt? Descartes has convinced himself that there is nothing in the world; no sky,
no earth, no minds, no bodies. The text reads, does that follow that I don t exist either? No, it
does not follow; for if I convinced myself of something then I certainly existed. The Second
Meditation Descartes first interpretation is, This is the one thing that can t be separated from me.
I am, I exist that is certain. Descartes view seem to be I think, and since I think then I exist. And
since I believe that I exist then my belief would have to be true. No one can hold that as a false
belief. At this point, Descartes is reasonably certain he exists but he is unsure of what this I is.
Descartes then briefly touch on the ideas of a soul and what he knew the body to be. The text
reads, It is only when I think I am certain that I exist. This gives us on what is truly important to
Descartes which is the fact that if one think, then they must truly exist. Remember Descartes refers
to himself as a thing think. Like I mention in the First Meditation Descartes takes back what was
said. As he is unsure of if he is one with the body or distinct from

Voldemort wanted to destroy all Creatures, Beings, Muggleborns and Squibs, so that they could

honestly, it never made sense though. It simply didn t seem logical that if he was always as
crazed as everyone on the so called Light side said, that he d be able to gather and keep
followers. This is what I dislike about the British, no offense, Harry Domenic complained. In

Business Law Research Paper Business law is law that refers to law that is dealt with when
dealing with people and certain matters that could be commercial. When dealing with business law,
the law is often dealing with a business of some sort, like the term name says. Certain problems
you could deal with are businessformation, employment considerations, immigration law, sales of
consumer goods, contract drafting and negotiations, trust and antitrust, intellectual property, taxes,
bankruptcy, and more. Business law also deals with issues that could arise with existing businesses
that interact with customers or the general public. This helps view businesses as entities separate

Laws protect us from discrimination, from threats of other citizens or countries perhaps, and
much more. Business law simply keeps the calm in this country and it would be chaos without
it. According to a quote from one of our past presidents, Theodore Roosevelt, he said, Ours is a
government of liberty, by, through and under the law. No man is above it, and no man is below
it. What he means is that business law sets a foundation for our country and all organized
matters and everything within it. So many people use business law. Business lawyers, attorneys,
judges, prosecutors, anyone who uses law in their hands for a career or for other circumstances.
To use business law in a career that deals with law, you must have a JD degree or something
similar. But if you have a career that isn t professional, like a lawyer, and you re someone like a
police officer, you can use law to help citizens protect themselves and to take down criminals and
felons using the law in a right way. One law that interests me is criminal law. I ve always been
interested in criminal justice and law, and I feel like it would be a great use to me for many
reasons. Not only would it help me take down those who I know personally who need to be
thrown in jail, but it would also help those who are in need to be saved, not to be clichГ©, but

Contemporary Political Theory Should We Have On...
Policy makers need a certain measure of agreement on what is just and unjust (Rawls, 1999: 6) to
coordinate their policies efficiently, meet expectations and grant stability in society. Answering
whether policy makers should listen to a statement like this, we will explore what impact
contemporary political theory should have on policy makers and examine the nature of their
relationship.
Due to its limited scope, this essay cannot elucidate whether policy makers should listen to natural
scientists or economists, comparatively. In what follows I shall focus entirely on Rawls s A Theory
of Justice (TJ) and Nozick s Anarchy, State, and Utopia (ASU). I furthermore assume that political
theorists and policy makers are two separate parties and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rawls convincingly illuminates that individual policy makers can critically reflect upon their self
interest by internally assuming impartiality (Rawls, 1999: 119 120). This intuitive method for
understanding the role of justice (Campbell, 1988: 82) serves as a framework for unbiased policy
making. Despite various political attitudes, institutions rest on an underlying consent about what is
(un)just. In this sense, the OP makes individuals see policy goals from distance (Rawls, 1999: 19).
Beyond that, by listening to political theory, policy makers learn to evaluate how we speak about
justice (see Campbell, 1988: 9). Intuitive societal debates about who deserves what should be heard
so that policy makers are not only informed by lobbyists. Even if parliament does not discuss
political theories, they translate into culture and beliefs. Listening could make policy makers reflect
upon their own normative grounds, becoming aware of the principles they should act

The Importance Of Instant Gratification
Instant gratification plaguing the U.S workplace?
Since the late 20th century the temptation to fulfill Instant gratification has become more prevalent
in society which has put America in a precarious predicament. In Robert Paul s novel The Impulse
Society: America in the Age of Instant Gratificationhe claims America has found itself in an era
where we desire extensive indulgence which has made us culturally narcissistic , blinding us from
the value of investment and inducing a high risk lifestyle. This currently has managed to raise
concerns regarding the problems that serve as a detriment to the labor force. with instant
gratification even shaping a newer generation of workers, Millennials who were born in an age
where they are used to technology and social media giving them immediate feedback and results in
almost every aspect of their life. with one notable problem being that decisions influenced by instant
gratification seem to be leading to higher rates of unemployment seen with machines threatening to
replace laborers (Derek Thompson). Former president Nixon goes into claim how work ethic is
what allows us to be a industrial nation and is what allowed us to change from a poor nation to a
powerful one over the course of two centuries (Address to the Nation on Labor Day,1). with this
claim, it is pivotal to see the that contemporary times have encouraged instant gratification which
has spread egocentrism in the workforce. This has resulted in the

Talk To Her
Question 1
Talk to Her is a Spanish film written in 2002 and directed by Pedro Almodovar. The plot revolves
around two men with an unlikely friendship and in deep care for two other women suffering from
comas. The themes adopted by the writer are mainly persistence of love, the difficulty of
communication as well as loneliness and intimacy. Like any other drama, the film reveals a unique
style and concepts of artistry. In particular, the film highlights the ideas of postmodern narratives
commonly adopted by many contemporary playwrights. While postmodernism in art is used as a
departure from the typical modernism to explicit distrust of theories and ideologies, this film
exhibits a wider sphere. Apart from the themes used in the play, the humor and unrelenting ... Show

In truth, his character is a complete perversion of the virtue that he exemplifies throughout the film.
Apart from being too good, Benigno violates Alicia s integrity when he rapes the lady in his quest
to realize a merger between them after an extended period of admiration. In my opinion, Benigno is
psychologically troubled individual throughout the movie. In fact, for the majority of the film, he is
undeniably the most sympathetic figure since he appears saintly against the backdrop of all his
failures. Perhaps, the playwright does not intend to have the audience capture an immediate
impression of the character but use him as the center of comic. Despite the violence and immoral
attitude, Benigno s integrity, as well as authenticity, remains mostly questionable.
Question 3
I concur that Benigno s character is not only ironic but is also central to creating meaning out of
the movie, Talk to Her. Moreover, his admiration and a weak sense of relationship boundaries are
to blame for the heinous act he did on Alicia hence his

The allegory of the cave by Plato is a theory concerning human perception. The point of the
theory is to distinguish between two types of people. People who mistake sensory knowledge
for the truth and people who really do see the truth. The slaves are taken into a cave and chained
down and the experiment begins. Plato s cave can be confusing at first but once it is considered
and researched it starts to become clear. Today there are many different stories that are very alike
to the allegory of Plato s cave. One of these stories is the movie The Matrix. The allegory of the

Neo, which is his world class hacker name. He is contacted by Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne)
and Trinity (Carrie Anne Moss). Morpheus tells him that his world isn t what he thought it was.
What he s known as reality is merely a computer program. This program is called the Matrix.
Then Neo is offered a choice: a red pill, which will allow him to discover what the Matrix is, or
the blue pill, which will make him fall back into the illusion of the Matrix like nothing happened.
Of course, he chooses the red pill because otherwise the movie would have been boring as hell.
Neo then finds himself aware of the real world for the first time. When he wakes up he is
startled to find that he is hooked up to a machine connected by wires coming out of holes in his
body. Plus, he was surrounded by thousands of others who were still sleeping . We find out that
Neo is the one and he must save the world, but then things get ugly. Before the can get out of the
matrix one of their crew members named Cypher (Joe Pantoliano) betrayed them and told the secret
agent bad guys that they were there. They capture Morpheus and Neo and Trinity must fight back

An Overview and History of North Korea
Introduction North Korea is a small country located in HYPERLINK http://en.wikipedia.org

divided in1945. North Korea s capital city is HYPERLINK http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki
/Pyongyang o Pyongyang Pyongyang which is the largest city and the highest economy in the
country as well. I chose this topic because most people who live overseas do not know about
North Korea and it was a very important part of our history in South Korea. Even though Korea
was divided, I would like to dream about our peace with North Korea. So I wanted to write about
North Korea objectively. The first sub topic I will talk about is the location of North Korea and
how big it is, and then I will move on to talk about its population and climate. Next I will talk
about when and why North and South Korea were divided and why people in North Korea are
not allowed to travel overseas. Then I will talk about the government in North Korea. Finally,
there are several differences of lifestyle between North and South Korea that I would like to
compare about, such as food, culture, the economy and how people in North Korea communicate
with each other generally. Geography of North Korea North Korean is a country that located in
East Asia in the northern half of the Korean peninsula. On the north, it is bordered by China on the

Human Relationship And Genetic Development And The...
The development of the chick involves fertilization, division and growth of living cells, and
segregation of cells into groups of special function (tissues). Once the egg is laid, some embryonic
development has happened and then usually stops until proper cell conditions are met for the
incubation to resume. At the beginning of the stages, the cells are alike, but as the embryodevelops,
cells are specialized. After the start of incubation, a thick pointed layer of cells become visible
caudal or tail end of the embryo. From the primal start, both the head and backbone of the
embryo develop. The digestive tract forms and the blood islands appear. Later on, the blood
islands would develop into a vascular and blood system. The second day of incubation, the blood
islands link and begin to form a vascular system, while the heart is formed elsewhere. By the 44th
hour of incubation, both the vascular system and heart join, and the heart starts beating. By the
end of the third day of incubation, the beak begins forming. And limb buds for the wings and legs
are seen. The chicks body turns 90В° and turns it s left side on the yolk. Both the head and tail get
closer so the embryo forms a C shape. The mouth, tongue, and nasal pits develop in the digestive
and respiratory systems. Even though it hasn t been enclosed within the body, the heart continues to
enlarge. And by the end of the fourth day of incubation, the embryo has all of the needed organs to
bolster life after hatching.

  • 2. Stock Options Many years ago stock options were rarely used as incidental benefits for top executives. Nowadays, compensating employee whit stock options has become an increasingly common practice. Before the year 1996, only the intrinsic value method was used to record these transactions. This method distorted the issuer s reported financial condition and results of operations, which could lead to inappropriate decisions taken by investors. Followed by the increased use of employee stock options and the surrounding controversy of its recording method, on the year 1996 the fair value method was introduced to be used as an alternative to the intrinsic method and on 2004 the intrinsic value method was completely discontinued. The Fair value method... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fair value of an option grant ideally would be based on the observable market price of the option or of one with similar terms and conditions. As the market price is not usually observable, fair value measurement techniques use option pricing models such as a Black Scholes model, a Monte Carlo simulation technique, or a lattice model to determine a fair value of an option that is, one that accounts for factors such as the stock price at the grant date, the strike price, the expected life of the option (that is, the expected period of time between the grant date and the exercise date), the volatility of the underlying stock and the expected dividends on it, and the risk free interest rate over the expected life of the option. Assuming that the fair value option pricing model determines the company s total compensation expense to be $300,000, then this company will expense $100,000 each of the following three years. The 2004 requirement eliminated the use of the intrinsic value based method and thus addressed users and other parties concerns of financial statements distortions by requiring an entity to recognize the cost of employee services received in share based payment transactions, thereby reflecting the economic consequences of those transactions in the financial statements. By requiring the fair value method for all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are a large amount of customers in this industry, which makes the customers not very powerful. b. I believe the customers do make high volume purchases, which would make them powerful. c. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... d.The tobacco industry definitely needs the tobacco growers service to survive, making the suppliers powerful. e.The tobacco growers (suppliers) do not have differentiation in their product. This weakens their power because the tobacco industry does not have to pay more for the tobacco because it is basically all the same. f.It is not costly to switch suppliers. Some companies choose to switch to a less expensive supplier in order to lower the cost of their products. This weakens the power of the suppliers. g.The suppliers can not easily vertically integrate forward and become their own customer because of the many costs in manufacturing tobacco. h.Overall, I believe the suppliers are highly powerful in the tobacco industry. Existing Industry Competitors a. Overall, the growth rate of the industry is moderate. Tobacco consumption is rising rapidly in developing countries. However, in the U.S. cigarette consumption has been slipping by about two percent per year. This means that there is a moderate level of competition for the existing tobacco industry competitors. b.There is a mixture of fixed costs and variable costs associated with this industry. This keeps competition at a moderate level because the companies want to increase sales possibly by lowering

  • 6. Of Michaelangelo Merisi Da Caravaggio s Young Sick Bacchus Wine and Rome have an intertwined history, both developing and expanding together. Wine is an integral part of Italian daily life, it was even consumed regularly in ancient times and was a staple of social life. Viticulture began as early as 1200 BC and continued to grow into what it is today (Lorenzo). Therefore, wineis just as old as Romeitself. Throughout Rome s history, it is clear that wine plays an important role in art and in daily social life. It is integral to understand the importance of wine in order to grasp the basics of Roman daily life as it was thousands of years ago. In art, wine is depicted in various ways either through gods, grapes, symbols, or quite simply, a cup of wine. In Michaelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio s painting created in 1594 entitled Young Sick Bacchus, wine is portrayed through the representation of the Roman god of wine, Bacchus (also referred to as Dionysus) (Aronson). Young Sick Bacchus demonstrates how important wine was due to the fact that it is being represented through a god with an interesting history and religion that can be explored, and it also gives a glimpse into the history of Italys most renowned artist, Caravaggio. This paper will discuss the appeal and importance of the painting due to its portrayal of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After six year of lessons, forced practices, time, and money, I made the big decision a year and a half ago to quit piano and cello and start violin. The piano was there as long as I could imagine, and after six years of playing that monster, you don t quit, it s just not practical. The cello came in when I was 10, I was small at that time, a little over 4 feet, and after 3 years of practice and hard work, you don t give up. Cramped, constricted, confined, in my state of mind these two instruments made me feel that I lost my freedom, my body frozen, only able to move my fingers and my hands, and nothing more. Jones retaliated by saying We would make the players and teams in this league more money if we were all responsible for our own marketing. The more you grow the pie, the more you grow the league. People say I m a maverick and not a team player, but I believe in revenue sharing. I just think there s more revenue to share out there (King 100). On August 3, 1995, Jones announced a deal with Pepsi that allowed that company to become the official supplier of soft drinks at Texas Stadium; a stadium which Jones owns. The league disagreed because Coke was already the NFL s official soft drink sponsor. But 10 days later, New England Patriot owner Robert Kraft, who owns Foxboro Stadium, unveiled a similar deal with Pepsi; and no one seemed upset around the league. Jones also signed Deion Sanders last year to a $35 million contract with Dallas. Around the league there was grumbling that Jones was abusing the salary cap of the NFL. Of course the San Francisco 49ers had done the same thing for the same player a year before. • 9. The Columbian Exchange Between The New World And The Old... The Columbian exchange is an interchange of plants, ideas, diseases and many more things traded between the New World and the Old World during the 15th and 16th century. It all began in 1492 after Christopher Columbus went on his voyage and discovered the New World. After discovering the New World many milestones in history began to form. Following in his steps of his new discovery came some of the Europeans. Since the Colombian exchange began, many things have been brought to America and many things have been sent over in the directions. The Old World has brought over many supplies as in sugar, coffee, horses and smallpox. The Americas brought to them corn, cocoa beans, and tomatoes in their exchange. Not only did the old and the new world bring great things to each other, they also brought diseases and a decrease in the population of the new world. Instead of the old world taking in the new world s culture, it was reversed. The new world had taken in the old world s way of lifestyle. During the exchange of goods and people moving to the new world brought sickness and diseases. The most common diseases the Old World brought were smallpox, measles, malaria, yellow fever, influenza, chicken pox. The most destructive disease out of all the ones brought to America were the smallpox. Small pox is a contagious, disfiguring and a deadly disease. • 11. The Negative Portrayal of Lady Macbeth in Shakespeare s... Macbeth is a play in which a Lord and his Lady come into supreme power through acts of injustice and despicable inhumanities. In the play Macbeth there is no main focal theme that overrules the others; the play however has several underlying themes, namely there are important themes i.e. good and evil (like ying and yang), greed and power, guilt and conscience, fear, ambition this leads to the murder of other people illustrating to the reader that even the most sane of people can result to character diminishing methods to get what they want. These particular themes are the most prominent and when closely looked at, it can help to understand characters and meanings behind the play. The theme of ambition is very important in this play,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... women, money, power. These were all three things that tempted Macbeth. Lady Macbeth seems quite the contrary to how women in Elizabethan England would have been, the only women were able to obtain power was by influencing their husbands. This was a great advantage of Lady Macbeth s on which she played and used very successfully. She was able to influence her husband so strongly that she convinced him willingly into committing murder willingly; Shakespeare displays the strength of power that women have the ability to possess if they wish, he conveys women as sneaky and willing to result to extreme tactics to get their own way; it shows just how dangerous women can be. Shakespeare uses Lady Macbeth as an icon for powerful women. Lady Macbeth is a complex and intriguing character in Shakespeare s play, Macbeth. She is a difficult character to embody as her personality seems split between two sides, one that is pure evil, sly and conniving in contrast to her softer, vulnerable, weak and feminine side. In the play we see her in these two main ways. The reader may feel a certain animosity towards Lady Macbeth throughout the first few acts as her personality appears more and more distasteful, in spite of this towards the end she has a serious breakdown over the guilt that torments her, even in her sleep, regarding her hand in Duncan s untimely death. The actions and malevolent tones in which she uses in Act 1 Scene 5 is very shocking, we all have stereotypes of how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Beauty Standards For Black Women It does not come as a surprise that women, in large, are dissatisfied with their bodies. This widespread body dissatisfaction amongst women was coined normative discontent (Rodin, Silberstein, Streigel Moore, 1984). Although body dissatisfaction seemingly plagues women as a whole, there are several factors that can either serve as a protective factor or a risk factor for the development of body dissatisfaction. Much of the research regarding this normative discontent excludes culturally relevant factors for African American(Black) women. Looking specifically at African American women, the factors that affect body image and body dissatisfaction greatly differ from those that affect non minority White women. Skin tone or complexion,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Participants in the study reported feelings of inadequacy in comparison to their lighter skinned counterparts in everything from school competitions to mate selection. These feelings of inadequacy remained prevalent from childhood through adulthood. Media also plays a key role in how the skin tone bias is perpetuated. Rap and Hip Hop music videos often portray lighter skinned women as the love interest of the main character or the woman the male finds sexually desirable (Wallace, Townsend, Glasgow, Ojie, 2011). Movies and television programs targeted towards African Americans may also have a light skinned woman as the successful, attractive character with a juxtaposing character who is darker, loud, obnoxious, and often fits into the sassy sidekick trope. A popular Black situational comedy in the 1990s, Martin, was a prime example of this (Walter et al., 1992). The main character s girlfriend Gina, was a successful, beautiful lighter skinned woman and her best friend, Pam, was dark skinned and often the recipient of Martin s jokes about her appearance. Exposure to these repeated stereotypes for Black women only furthers the notion that light skin is somehow superior to dark skin. This could mean that for African American women, having darker skin is a risk factor for developing body dissatisfaction. References Ashley, R. R., Jung, J. (2017). #BlackBodiesMatter: Cross cultural examination of Black women s motivation to engage in body ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One type of item (prototype) represents features that are unique to a disorder, and the other type of item (peripheral) represents features that may be similar to different construct item (Strack, Millon, 2007). This accounts for why there is so much crossover between constructs. The prototypal items are weighted two and the peripheral items are only weighted one. For Adam Smith, the development of a commercial society produced a social structure divided into three classes, landowners, capitalists, and labourers, the three great constituent orders of every civilized society (Smith, 1998:27). Thus, Smith s ideal society would be of people would work for themselves. He was a strong advocate for free market and posed strong opposition to the feudal system. He, along with other Enilghtenment thinkers, believed that the State had no legitmate role in the free market. Smith s defence of the free market was tied to the belief that state interference with the market benefits the rich and hurts the poor(Lecture Notes, 2001:5). Therefore, Adam Smith s vision of an ideal society was one in which most people are involved in independent commodity production(Lecture Notes, 2001:5). They are in No Man s Land we know what for. They grow fat; when we see one we have a crack at it (Remarque 128). Remarque explains through his novel that the rats are fat, numerous, and feast off bodies in No Man s Land. All of these statements are factual. Anthony Brandt, *credibility needed*, explains that As the machine of war ground away, so many corpses accumulated in no man s land that the stench of rotting flesh became ubiquitous. The corpses in turn attracted fat brown Norway rats in extraordinary numbers (Brandt). Brandt validates each of the three claims made by Remarque in his book. The trench rats in World War One were frighteningly large due to eating the corpses of soldiers in No Man s Land, and were substantial in number. • 34. Hilary Putnam s Twin Earth Scenario Introduction In Meaning and Reference , Hilary Putnam famously produced the twin earth scenario to argue for semantic externalism (henceforth externalism), the view that the meaning of some expressions is partly determined external to the speaker s mental states. In this essay I will first lay out Putnam s argument for externalism. Then I will extend his scenario and show that externalism faces various problems. Lastly, I will cast doubt on Putnam s idea that the essence of the term water is its molecular structure. Hence Putnam s twin earth scenario fails to establish externalism. Putnam s Twin Earth Scenario Suppose that there is a twin earth which is almost exactly like earth. However, they differ in that the substance earthlings call water is not H2O, but is XYZ on twin earth. XYZ is different in chemical composition from H2O but looks and behaves like H2O. Like H2O, XYZ is colorless, odorless, boils at a hundred degree Celsius, and so on. Next, let Oscar be an earthling and twin Oscar be a twin earthling. Both are in 1750 and do not know the chemical composition of what they call water. They have the same psychological states when they use the term water. Putnam takes the reference of water ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Recall that Putnam s intuition was that if another liquid had the same superficial properties as our water (H2O) but differed in molecular constitution, then we would not call it water. It is this premise that is highly questionable. Putnam offers no argument for this and bases it off intuitions. However, I do not share such intuitions and neither do many experts in the field of philosophy of chemistry and metaphysics. Jaap van Brakel goes as far as to conclude, Because it turns out that no clear meaning, if any, can be given to the notion of molecular structure, it is not possible to specify what the reference and essence of water is in terms of its molecular ... • 35. The Effect Of Helicopter Parenting Helicopter parenting is a form of upbringing where a parent is more likely to help their child with all of their problems. It is not uncommon for these parents to pay their child s bills and continue doing their laundry among other things when they ve reached their secondary education (e.g. College, University). (Meno) This type of parent doesn t necessarily control everything the child does, but they protect them from any possible loss or failure in attempt to help them succeed. Though many have different views on the parentingmethod, more research must be done in order to assess its effectiveness. Though there have been countless books and studies on parenting, there have only been a handful that thoroughly looked at the effects of helicopter parenting in particular. Research has been put into the effects on skill development in children, commitment, and emotional stability throughout their life. In order to understand where these effects stemmed from, research was done to compare education level at a young age between those with helicopter parents and those without. Impact on Skill Development When in an educational environment, it s easy to split apart those who tried to achieve a higher grade point average, and those who didn t. This is not necessarily a reflection of intelligence level, but rather a difference in motivation. Students with helicopter parents tend to be less engaged in their school work when compared to those with less protective parents. (Sharon) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction Interpersonal competence is an aspect of communication that is rarely given attention despite being a crucial facet of human interaction. In fact, Beebe et al. argue that it is comparable to breathing for being do critical to human growth (2). According to Beebe et al., this aspect of communication is necessary to maintain relationships and to improve affairs between lovers (6 7). To enhance our competence in interpersonal communication, we need to learn and master ways of verbally relating with others. One aspect that is greatly abused interpersonal communication is the inclusion of emotions when relaying and receiving information especially when anger is used (West and Turner 238). This review seeks to analyze emotion in communication and formulate a theoretical framework of its role in communication and suggest an action plan for the same. The Role of Emotion in Interpersonal Communication It is surprising that people rarely consider the intensity of inclusion of emotions when interacting with others. In communication, it gets even worse because we end up using the aspect of emotion to interpret what is being passed (Beebe et al. 82). One theory that explain best how emotions play a role communication is the James Lange Theory of Emotion (Beebe et al. 42). No, it does not follow; for if I convinced myself of something then I certainly existed. The Second Meditation Descartes first interpretation is, This is the one thing that can t be separated from me. I am, I exist that is certain. Descartes view seem to be I think, and since I think then I exist. And since I believe that I exist then my belief would have to be true. No one can hold that as a false belief. What he s known as reality is merely a computer program. This program is called the Matrix. Then Neo is offered a choice: a red pill, which will allow him to discover what the Matrix is, or the blue pill, which will make him fall back into the illusion of the Matrix like nothing happened. Of course, he chooses the red pill because otherwise the movie would have been boring as hell. Neo then finds himself aware of the real world for the first time. When he wakes up he is startled to find that he is hooked up to a machine connected by wires coming out of holes in his body. Plus, he was surrounded by thousands of others who were still sleeping . We find out that Neo is the one and he must save the world, but then things get ugly. Before the can get out of the matrix one of their crew members named Cypher (Joe Pantoliano) betrayed them and told the secret agent bad guys that they were there. They capture Morpheus and Neo and Trinity must fight back to rescue him. They rescue Morpheus and they get out of the Matrix before the movie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

North Korea s capital city is HYPERLINK http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki /Pyongyang o Pyongyang Pyongyang which is the largest city and the highest economy in the country as well. I chose this topic because most people who live overseas do not know about North Korea and it was a very important part of our history in South Korea. Even though Korea was divided, I would like to dream about our peace with North Korea. So I wanted to write about North Korea objectively. The first sub topic I will talk about is the location of North Korea and how big it is, and then I will move on to talk about its population and climate. Next I will talk about when and why North and South Korea were divided and why people in North Korea are not allowed to travel overseas. Then I will talk about the government in North Korea. Finally, there are several differences of lifestyle between North and South Korea that I would like to compare about, such as food, culture, the economy and how people in North Korea communicate with each other generally. Geography of North Korea North Korean is a country that located in East Asia in the northern half of the Korean peninsula. On the north, it is bordered by China on the Yalu River and Russia on the Tumen River. At its southern border, South Korea is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Human Relationship And Genetic Development And The... The development of the chick involves fertilization, division and growth of living cells, and segregation of cells into groups of special function (tissues). Once the egg is laid, some embryonic development has happened and then usually stops until proper cell conditions are met for the incubation to resume. At the beginning of the stages, the cells are alike, but as the embryodevelops, cells are specialized. After the start of incubation, a thick pointed layer of cells become visible caudal or tail end of the embryo. From the primal start, both the head and backbone of the embryo develop. The digestive tract forms and the blood islands appear. Later on, the blood islands would develop into a vascular and blood system. The second day of incubation, the blood islands link and begin to form a vascular system, while the heart is formed elsewhere. By the 44th hour of incubation, both the vascular system and heart join, and the heart starts beating. By the end of the third day of incubation, the beak begins forming. And limb buds for the wings and legs are seen. The chicks body turns 90В° and turns it s left side on the yolk. Both the head and tail get closer so the embryo forms a C shape. The mouth, tongue, and nasal pits develop in the digestive and respiratory systems. Even though it hasn t been enclosed within the body, the heart continues to enlarge. And by the end of the fourth day of incubation, the embryo has all of the needed organs to bolster life after hatching. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
