2. Immanuel Kant s Philosophy On Philosophy
People were lost. They did not know where and what to follow. Therefore, many philosophers
came up with ideas to convince people to live ВЁbetterВЁ. Rationalism related with the overview
of mathematical approaches into philosophy during the period by the major rationalist figures such
as Descartes, Leibniz and Spinoza developed peopleВґs way of thinking in many different ways.
Rationalismis perspective which engages the rational and deductive reason, an opposite structure
from personal experience or teachings as the foundation of knowledge or rationalization. Therefore,

Kant refused the arguments from the empiricists, and kept his statement of reason itself is
organized with practices of gained experience and classifications that provides a phenomenal and
rational configuration to any possible item of empirical experience. Kant s famous statement of this
duty says, Act only according to that maxim by which you can at the same time will that it should
become a universal law.
Lastly, the perception of Romanticism appeared in encounter with the Enlightenment within the
society. The concept was too vague. Philosophers indicated human nature as constant being. The
concept of Romanticism had also confronted the culture of church because it disagreed with the
thought of human intention and the enlightenment. The philosophers of Romanticism argued and
stopped certain church movement due to their various types of emotions and inspiration.
Romanticism influenced the society in many religious ways. It mainly served for Roman
Catholicism through its exterior characteristic. Romanticism also emphasized individualism. When
God told the world to serve one another, Romanticism tried to solve the problem alone.
God has allowed freedom of will to all human, yet He specifically stated to live to glorify His name.

Juror No3, portrayed by Lee J. Cobb, runs his own messenger service. He is characterized as a hard
headed, opinioned antagonist, sadist who thinks that boys should treat their fathers with more
respect. His strategies includes: aggression, competing, and, dominance. Throughout the movie he
is constantly bullying other jurors. He entered the deliberation room with a predetermined verdictof
guilty without the need to discuss the facts ...talk and talk and talk, even when it s an open and
shut case like this one. I mean, did you ever hear so much talk about nothing? . As he runs his
own business with 37 employees he feels as though his opinion is the one that matters and
everyone should just fall in line. When asked to explain why he thinks the boy is guilty his
response is: ... and I have no... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Juror No8 confronts him about his motives ... Are you his executioner? , You want to see this
boy dead because you personally want it, not because of the facts. . This provokes Juror No3
into further rage threating to kill Juror No8. Juror No3 sustains his guilty verdict to the very last
minute. His aggression is evident in both the first and second votes where Juror No9 and Juror
No8, respectively, voted guilty. At first he attacks Juror No8 saying it was a cut and dry case
and then wrongly jumps down Juror No5 s throat accusing him for changing his vote when it
fact it was Juror No9. His outburst exposed his hot temper. Some of his outburst ... he was an old
man! Half the time he was confused. How could he be positive about anything? , helped
introduce more reasonable doubt into the room which aided jurors in changing his vote. Other
evidence of his aggression is when he and Juror No12 were playing Tic Tac Toe in the middle of
deliberation; Juror No8 took it away This isn t a game Who does he think he is? , as he is ready to

4. Persuasive Essay On The Intolerable Acts
We are tired of having our voices silenced and being punished for our harmless actions. We acted in
defiance and in turn we had soldiers placed in our homes, taxes imposed and the removal of our
charter. We should be able to speak freely without persecution. As shown by the Intolerable Acts, we
cannot show our dissatisfaction and speak our minds using action without limitations imposed by
the Motherland. Why continue to be punished and limited when we do not even have
representation in the governmentthat leads us? We need to show the motherland that their
restrictions are an overreaction to our harmless acts and revolt against our cruel leaders. We had
soldiers placed in our homes as part of the Intolerance Acts. We were punished for dumping tea into
Boston Harbor. An act for punishing mutiny and desertion, and for the better payment of the army
and their quarters... forces us to house and provide resources for soldiers. That mutiny being us
throwing tea into the harbor in rebellion for the cruel monopolization and taxation of all tea we
purchase. The so called Quartering Act placing soldiers in our homes was decided upon none other
than ...the present session of parliament... that we are not represented in.
Placing soldiers in our homes is worse enough, but furnishing them with fire, candles, vinegar, and
salt, bedding, utensils for dressing their victuals, and small beer or cyder... is, even more, a burden
to our hard earned money. And what happens if we revolt against

5. Defining Prostitution Essay
Defining Prostitution
Prostitution is a word which applies to far more circumstances than its usual legal definition which
is about prohibiting massive whoring . I have a very simple way of defining prostitution:
Prostitution is when you do something for money that you wouldn t be doing without being paid.
You will find under this definition that there are quite a few whores who are not prostitutes, for
they actually love what they do, and would continue to engage in promiscuous sex even without
the monetary reward. What would be shocking to the average person is to realize that the average
person is in fact a prostitute. Most people do the jobs they do only for the money, not because ...

In liberalism feminism, prostitution is conceived of in the contractrarian sense of being a private
business transaction. The liberal contends that a woman is free to enter into contracts. Liberal
feminist believe that personal rights should predominate over concerns for the social good. The
liberal feminist wants to free women from oppressive gender roles.
Marxism
Marxist feminism arises out of the doctrines of Karl Marx, whose theory is centered less on the
material aspects of life than on the more broadly defined social one. Prostitution is a form of
labor and therefore has been specifically noted as falling under the designation of a corruption of
wage labor. Marx asserted that prostitution is only a specific expression of the general prostitution
of the laborer. Prostitutes may feel that they are free, but looking at the larger economic picture in
Marxist terms, they are in reality oppressed workers reinforcing an exploitative capitalistic scheme.
Classical Marxism conceives the bourgeois mainly as founded on the unremitting basis of capitalism
: private gain. The rhetoric of commodities pervades the family, as women, lacking access to the
public sphere, are forced to link themselves to men for financial reasons. Accordingly, sex within
capitalist marriage is viewed as a form of prostitution.

Many drugs commonly used today are of herbal origin. There is Archaeological evidence
indicating use of herbs and plants for medicinal purposes dating back 60,000 years. It was the
learning from our ancestors that yielded the development of medicine as it is known today. Yet
modern medicine is favored, by the majority, over herbs and plants provided by nature. A role
reversal has occurred. Can modern medicineand natural medicine effectively coexist? In 1960, a
Neanderthal was discovered buried with eight different types of plants; some of these are still used
in medicine today. It is this discovery that suggests our history of medicine, by way of plants, has

Albeit, marketing in the United States has a grave influence on the choice for synthetic drugs. It
has been known by many that the pharmaceutical industry has marketed medicines that do not
produce the results based on their claims. In addition, consumers have become increasingly
unsettled with the high cost of synthetic medications (Spilsbury 14 19). It is a combination of these
factors and others that are leading Americans back to their roots of natural healing medicine. As
with synthetic medicines, traditional plant medicine has its own handicap. Without regulation of
natural medicines, consistency of plant potency, efficacy, toxicity and safety are ambiguous.
Consumers may falsely assume the natural products are safe (Lewis 186.) As mentioned earlier,
synthetic drugs usually contain a single component extracted from a plant source. The original
plant is complex in nature and consists of various naturally occurring chemicals. Therefore,
understanding any negative side effects from treatment of the primary plant source would be more
complicated. Modern medicine is scientifically based and

10. Speech On Life Without Technology
Our lives without technology
Have you ever imagined a life without technology? A life without a smartphone to communicate,
research information or express our emotion in a social network?
Everybody knows that if we did not have the technology around us, our lives would be completely
different at one point that we will have to learn to live without it. Our lives without technology
would be similar to live in the XX century in terms of real communication, lives in danger and
without things that help us every day.
In the past did not exist technology to communicate or research information for the homework.
They use books to research information, those big ones that maybe you had in your house and

11. Character Relationships In Star Wars
Character relationships For stories that captivate the audiences, they need well developed plots with
characters who have interesting relationships with each other. The relationships of the characters
really drive the story because without the important relationships, there will not be a story. The
three points where it seems that the relationships the characters have are important to the story
would be in Star Wars, alien s relationships with humans, and in The Day After Tomorrow. There
are many key relationships characters share in Star Wars that without them, the story would actually
not have been a hit. Three of the relationships are Luke and Darth Vader, Luke and Han Solo, and
Anakin and Obi won. Luke and Darth Vader have an interesting relationship. Since Darth Vader is
in fact Luke s father but at the same time his enemy, it definitely draws the audience in to find out
what happens next. It also makes the final battle scene in Star Wars: Return of the Jedihigh tension
to see what will happen when Luke finally faces his father. Another relationship that helps the
story would be Luke and Han Solo. This character relationship is about two friends. It is
important to the story because Han Solo has gone out of his way to make sure Luke is alive,
such as when Luke was left out in the cold on Hoth. If Han Solo did not have the urge to save his
friend then there would be no story without the main character. Also, Han Solo and Luke fight side

Change plays a vital role in the world of business. It is also an aspect that cannot be stopped, it can
only be managed or led, no matter how much businesses try change is inevitable. Therefore, it is the
job of the company to be able to quickly adapt when change hits. There are many aspects which can
contribute to the need for change, both internal and external. Change managementcan be regarded as
managers applying their existing knowledge base in a systematic manner to problems requiring

This framework can help to identify areas which need to be changed, to improve performance. For
instance, under the superordinate goals element are the mission, vision, goals and objectives
(Johnson et al., 2014). If this element is different to what is desired by the company, then change is
required. In addition, if members of staff are underperforming, then it can be identified that a
change is necessary.
Therefore, it can identify internal triggers which may bring about the need for change, such as:
New senior management or chief executive
Poor performance of staff
Loss of profit
New missions, visions, goals and objectives
High employee turnover
Low morale of staff
The use of new technology
The relocation of factory, staff, resources, etc.
Merger, Acquisition, Takeover or Divestment
Shortages or surpluses of labour (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2013; Johnson et al., 2014; Paton and
McCalman, 2000)
In addition, the 7s can be split into hard and soft factors. Hard factors, such as: strategy, structure
and systems, are easily identifiable, limited problems in which solutions are more feasible (Paton
and McCalaman, 2000). According to Sirken, Keenan and Jackson (2006), hard factors have three

Abstract In this study a new noise source is proposed as a one of renewable energy sources in
energy harvesting. Disk Jokey (DJ) is a common device in celebrations and other events.
Converting the produced noise from DJ to electric energy by using a suitable piezoelectric
transducer is the main aim of this study. Piezoelectric sensors used to convert the sound waves to
electric charges. Piezoelectric sensor of the model 7BB 41 2 was used. The piezoelectric sensors
were connected in series, parallel, and series with parallel combination connections. The disk
jockey was used as an acoustic noise source. The sound intensity levels of the output sound were 81,
84, 87 dB. The output of the three connection modes were measured at 0, 1,2,3,4, and 5cm distance.
The results showed that the parallel connection gave the highest power at the various distances. The
maximum generated power was 4.96mwatts without using an external power supply for the signal
condition device. The power decreases by increasing the distance from the source of the noise.

BP s stock offering, which is part of the government s decentralization plan, has come at a time
when markets are still feeling the aftermath of what has been the biggest one day drop in history.
This has caused detrimental effects on the market which is felt by most, if not all companies. What
could have been an attractive offer has turned sour as BP s stock price dipped dramatically.
Upon analysing this fund raising issuance along with the current market environment, we have
concluded that this offering is not as valuable despite the addition of the repurchase plan (put option

Instead of having the customers pay 1.2 on the first date and 1.05 each on the second and third
payment dates, a payment scheme of 1 on October 1987 and 1.15 on August 1988 and April
1989 will make the BP stock offering a better one. Values higher than the payment amounts are
what we need since it will allow investors to have payoffs regardless of the movements of the
stock price. Compared with the value in Annex 4, the payoff in this recommendation is 0.03648,
compared to simply changing the put price, which yields a payoff of 0.00003. If this payment
scheme is applied, the breakeven price for the option strike price significantly decreases to around
0.6338.
Combining these two changes together, the investment becomes more valuable. Our computations
show a payoff of 0.1459 when the strike price is 0.85 and changing the payment scheme to 1.0 on
October 1987 and 1.15 each on August 1988 and April 1989.
To sum everything up, this stock offering is not a good investment on its current terms. The
repurchase plan may have given the issuance a little boost but it really hasn t given enough to
make BP s stock offering beneficial to the investor. However, should management decide to change
the factors such as the stock price

A recession is a general slowdown in economic activity over a period of time which is longer than a
few months. During recessions many factors are affected such as; employment, investment
spending, household incomes, business profits, bankruptcies and the rise in unemployment rates.
Governments usually respond to recessions by increasing money supplies, increasing government
spending and decreasing taxes.
In 2008 the UK went into a recession, this had a major effect on the value and volume of inbound
and domestic tourism in the UK as visitor numbers fell during the year 2009 as a result of the
recession.
In 2007 the UK received 32.7 million visitors, this fell to 31.8 million in 2008 and fell further again
to 29.8 million by 2009. Tourists also began to spend fewer days in the UK during their visits
decreasing from an average of 8.4 days in 2006 to 7.7 days

21. Quiet American Pong Quotes
An essential character in The Quiet American Phuong is quiet and intelligent. Phuong speaks
only when she is spoken to, and her character unlike Pyle and Fowler is very flat when compared
to them. Phuong seems to lack a personality unlike Pyle and Fowler whom both are endowed
with personality by Greene. Due to the fact that she is a women and also Vietnamese she seems
to be secondary compared to what her lovers are occupied with. She is always in their thoughts
however she comes after what each man find important Pyle is preoccupied with his undercover
work while Fowler is focused on himself, then Phuong. Because of her relationship with the
American Pyle and the French Fowler Phuong becomes a symbol for how the US and French
execute their agenda in Vietnam. A quiet character, Phuong seems to hold no particular
personality. In reality she may not have been a quiet character it could have been because the
narrator Fowler holds a cynical outlook on life, only accepts the things he wants to believe, and
ignored her. She is a realistic woman who decides to leaver Fowler for Pyle when it seemed that
marrying Fowler was not about to happen because his wife refused to divorce him. Phuong

22. Research And Development Of Primary Energy
It is important to know if the targets above can actually be measured, [...] these targets must be
sufficiently ambitious to bring about meaningful change and their indicators must be robust and
fit for purpose . (Wykes, Stevens Singer (2015), Measuring what matters in the Energy SDG). In
fact, several indicators and measurement methods have been proposed by experts. Indeed, for the
target 7.1, a percentage of the worldwide electricity access and reliance on non solid fuels would
be a good indicator. The second target can be measured by evaluating renewable energies share in
the total energy consumption over a period of time. The third target requires a measurement that
should establish an annual comparison to estimate the improvements made. One method would be
to measure the energy intensity in terms of primary energy and GDP each year and therefore
assess the possible improvement. An example of indicator for the target 7.a would be to estimate
the percentage of national research development budget spent on renewables and energy efficiency
research but it wouldn t be enough to assign a number to the international cooperation that can be
established. It would be possible to count the number of cooperation but there is no way to have an
indicator measure their direct effect as a whole since they will include too many sectors and
variables to take into consideration. Finally, the last target, even though it s not as directly
measured as others, can be measured by the

When James Meredith recalled the events that happened on Sept. 20, 1962, all he said was I
considered myself engaged in a war from day one (James Meredith Quotes). But what does this
mean? In 1962, there was lots of segregation occurring, and that includes the town of Oxford,
Mississippi. The University of Mississippi(Ole Miss) was segregated at the time, and there were a
lot of problems when they found out that 29 year old James Meredithwanted to enroll, especially
because he had colored skin. He knew that there was going to be some people who would disagree
with the idea, but he didn t realize how far they would take it. James Meredith was born in

People are normally surrounded with numerous youth sports, adult professional and recreational

whether children should be allowed to play violent sports is usually asked by many people on

fulfilling. There are numerous positive impacts of playing and viewing sportactivities. But some
sports have a violent nature in them and they normally have psychological effect and can as well
affect emotional and physical health (Delaney Madigan 2009). Therefore, children should not play

their dog to the way of their liking and the way they are helpful to them. These dogs should only

Folk Tale Characteristics in the Legend of Sleepy Hollow
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is one of the most well known stories in American literature, and with
good reason. Throughout his story, Washington Irving uses many stylistic ideas to create a
fantastically detailed and descriptive romantic folk tale.
Irving begins The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with a vivid description of the setting of his story.
Beginning with the Dutch history of the area, he goes on to describe the town as one of the
quietest places in the whole world , with a tranquil brook running through it and the sweet sounds
of chirping birds all around (1). Irving delves into the town s history, citing Indian legends which

The sky is depicted as being clear and serene , and the surrounding trees wore that rich golden
livery which we always associate with the idea of abundance (9). Another half of a paragraph is
devoted to describing the sober and brilliant colors of the grees, the wild ducks flying above, the
chattering noises of the squirrel, and the cry of the quail. The following paragraph is entirely
dedicated to noticing all the local breeds of birds, such as the cockrobin, blackbirds, golden
winged woodpecker, cedar bird, and blue jay. The fruits and vegetables are given special notice as
well, and is described as vast, rich, ample, and holding out the promise of cakes and hasty pudding
(10). This description of nature is a major traditional characteristic of the romantic genre, because it
contributes to the fascination with nature, describing it not only as being beautiful, but also as an
abundant resource.
Hearsay is another prominant characteristic of a romantic folk tale. Folk tales are traditionally
passed down orally, and are often subject to exaggerations or outright lies in order to enhance their
entertainment appeal. This stylistic trait is found in many details throughout Irving s story. Right

34. The Civil War And The 19th Century Essay
The 19th century was one of the most troubling times in human history. Things like the civil war,
child labor and even slavery helped shape the literary culture from 1850 1900. The civil war was a
war fought between the Northern and Southern States in the United States of America. Among the
34 states in January 1861, seven Southern slave states individually declared their secession from the
United Statesof America and formed the Confederate States of America. The first state to secede
was south carolina after the election of president lincoln in 1860. After South Carolina seceded, the
cotton states of Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas followed, seceding in
January and February 1861. Union and Confederate leadership and fighting soldiers on both sides
believed that slavery caused the Civil War. Union men mainly believed the war was to emancipate
the slaves. Confederates fought to protect southern society, and slavery as a part of it. Sectionalism
refers to the different economies, social structure, culture and customs and values of the North and
South. While the south based their economy off of slave labor and plantation agriculture, the North
was urbanizing, industrializing and had feigned slavery out of existence. Southern slaveholding
states, because of their low cost labor, had little need for industrialization. While the North highly
invested in its industrialization, could not compete with the industries of Europe in offering high

36. African American Self Care Literature Review
This particular article explores how social, cultural, and historical roots influence how African
Americans use self care practices to manage chronic illnesses. These three influences mentioned
shapes how a certain cultural group views the idea of self care. The authors illustrate that the idea
of self care is more than just one s commitment to lead a healthier lifestyle. In fact, the examination
of how one defines self care is presents a more complex task. It is well documented that African
Americans have had and continue to have traumatic experiences that stem from this country s
shameful history concerning slavery. Although slavery was abolished, the authors suggest that the
apparent systemic racism and oppression of African Americans also continues to shape how this
particular group of people develop self care practices. For example, the authors highlight the
significance of a church s role in the African American culture as a method of survival and
advancement. They asserted that the church s role was strengthened because it provided social
services and temporary protection from racial discrimination. From a Health Sciences perspective,
this exploration of self care practices is vital because it further emphasizes that social and cultural
determinants influence the health outcomes and the very concept of a community s definition of
self care. Therefore, acknowledgement of these factors is important because a health professional

Brazil
Brazil was founded in 1500 by Pedro Cabral. Brazil s flag is a dark green banner with a yellow
diamond with a night blue, star studded Southern Hemisphere sky. In the sky there are 27 white
stars representing each state and the Federal District. The stars are arranged in the pattern of the
night sky over Rio de Janeiro on November 15, 1889 or the date when the last Emperor of Brazil,
Dom Pedro II was deposed, and the republic was proclaimed, A phrase across the sky says
ORDEM E PROGRESSO, which means order and progress in Portuguese. The Brazilian flag
was adopted on May 11, 1992. The national anthem of Brazil is sung just the way ours is, at
political ceremonies, events, etc... The song was composed by Francisco Manuel and the lyrics
were written by Joaquim Osorio Duque Estrada. Though many other theories may say the original
purpose of the song is different, the actual original purpose was to be entirely orchestral for the
military band of the time between 1870 and 1927.
From 1964 to 1985, the military controlled the government under a succession of generals.
Civilian government was soon restored around 1985 and a new democratic constitution took

39. The Inclusion Of The Phrase Under God
The inclusion of the phrase under God in our nation s Pledge of Allegiance is an extremely
controversial topic within the United States government. This only brings to attention that although
society says you may not force others to follow your religion, it is not looked down upon to
practice a religion in the presence of people who believe differently. The Supreme Court of the US
has confirmed this multiple times. In addition, the Pledge of Allegianceis recited only as an act of
patriotism and as a way to honor those who have fought for the freedom we have graciously been
provided. The addition of the phrase was not to provoke argument, but to separate us from other
countries and to highlight our differences from others through our past; to show the principles our
country was founded on. Most importantly, there is the blatant fact that the pledge is completely
voluntary. Due to our daily recitation, some might be given the impression that we re a Christian
nation, not knowing the facts. Overall, the phrase has been tried a countless number of times in the
Supreme Court, without failure; it has historic value that no one can take away from it; and, most

41. Scientific Management Was the Product of 19th Century...
1st Formal, Assessed, Essay Topic:
Scientific Management was the product of 19th Century industrial practices and has no relevance to
the present day. Discuss.
In the past the man has been first; in the future the system must be first said Frederick Winslow
Taylor, creator of a new managementtheory: Scientific management or Taylorism. It emerged in
the end of the 19th century in the industrial context and was experimented and then applied in
plants.
This organisation of the workflow is based on some principles.
First, the use of science to evaluate each task in order to establish scientific laws about how to do
each particular part of the work. The managers, using time and motion studies and precise

The use of robotic and new techniques leads to a refinement of scientific management where the
human factor is not denied anymore but instrumentalized to achieve economic objectives. The
evolution of the society, social relationships, improvement in education... has influenced
organizational structures and management principles. For example, the balance of power between
managers and workers has changed. In the 19th century, the power was essentially in the employer
side whereas today, particularly with the emergence of unions, it is quite balanced. The rise in
workforce s education and standard of living has resulted in much more demanding employees (C.
Grönroos, 1994). Historical scientific management is therefore not appropriate anymore, either for
its aims or for its principles.
However, taylorism is still the origin of everything, it is firstly continued by Fordism with the
assembly line and real mass production, going to an upper level of work organization and a new
salary policy (5$ a day=double salary) allowing workers to consume and thus stimulating mass
consumption. We can talk about fordist compromise based on the distribution of the value added
advantageous for employees. It implies a win win situation between employees and employer. Ford
has improved social part of scientific management, encouraging workers to work more. Fordism is
also associated with standardization, producing the same

42. TOK Knowledge Essay
The claim Knowledge is nothing more than the systematic organization of facts, has many flaws
in its implications. All of the knowledge that we gain as ToK knowers cannot be considered
infallible fact. The term fact implies that the statement or claim can be reinforced with substantial
evidence and can be proven, and we have learned that almost any information can be considered
knowledge, no matter how subjective or specific the information is. Given that an individual is
defined by having a specific and unique way of thinking and perceiving the world, most of the
knowledge gained in several different Areas of Knowledge are heavily dependent on the
perspectives of the individuals under examination. Both the Areas of Knowledge of Ethicsand
Human Sciences have many ambiguities when it comes to organizing and legitimizing this data.
This leads the knower to ask, What makes information factual in terms of ToK knowledge? It can be
proven through Ethics and Human Sciences that knowledge is not the systematic organization of
facts, but the systematic organization of collective data to show trends and patterns. Ethical
boundaries and impressions are subjective to every individual, and the public ethical boundary must
be based off of the accumulative average of the environment. There is not a factual This is right vs.
This is wrong because no single human being has the authority to make such a statement. In fact, it
is this basic ethical disagreement that has led to

43. Analysis Of In The Kitchen By Henry Louis Gates
In text In the Kitchen , writer Henry Louis Gates Jnr shows how the importance of culture, pride
and appearance construct the identity of many African Americans. Gates text is centred around the
kitchen , a word with a double meaning, the kitchen is the basis for the whole text where pride is
centred and hair conditioning takes place. Gates uses elements of writing such as textual form,
figurative language, idiom and tone to establish construct the identities of the African American
society through the narrator s eyes. In this academic essay, I will be giving examples for these
elements of writing and how Gates has used them to shed different lights on the narrator s story,
letting the reader experience increasingly of the African American society.
Textual form is an important part of this text, Gates uses first person narration to let the reader
experience the African American culture from his own eyes. At first, we are introduced to the
kitchen at first, we are unaware of what the relation is to hair, in this quote the narrator defines
just this But the word has another meaning, and the kitchen I m speaking of now is the very
kinky bit of hair at the back of the head, where the neck meets the shirt collar. If there ever was
one part of our African past that resisted assimilation it was the kitchen. No matter how hot the
iron, no matter how powerful the chemical, no matter how stringent the mashed potatoes and lye
formula of a man s process neither God nor woman nor Sammy Davis could straighten the kitchen.
The kitchen was permanent irredeemable invincible kink , (42). This quote shows a lot about the
context of the African American society, with a sense of pride in their heritage and who they are
although they may want straightened white hair they don t want to be white. Another aspect of
textual form Gates uses is thematical structure, shown especially through the theme pride. The
narrator shows immense pride for his mother right from the beginning of the text, this quote is
him expressing how he finds his mothers work unbelievable showing great honour to her every
scored kink could be transformed through grease and fire into a magnificent head of wavy hair was
a miracle to me still is . Gates

44. Prevention Of The Anti Vaccination Movement
Coughs, headaches, aches and pains, fever, or runny noses are all common symptoms. They are
symptoms that can lead to anything from the common cold to a deadly viral infection. It is
because of this that vaccinations are a fundamental part of society and why doctors and parents
alike advocate for hand washing, hydrating, and staying home when you are ill. Disease
prevention is a corner stone in today s society and has been one for around 200 years since;
Edward Jenner created and administered the first smallpoxinoculation. However, while always
controversial the last few centuries have proved to lend unfounded credence to the anti vaccination
movement. Due to the publication of faulty studies along with spiritual and even political beliefs
vaccinations have gone from being viewed as a well respected and endorsed medical procedure to a
breeding ground for further infections and possible physical and mental impairments.
Vaccination, autism, and bowel disease will be forever linked together due to Dr. Andrew
Wakefield. Wakefield published a study in 1998 on twelve patients whom he said proved that
vaccinations could cause autism along with gastrointestinal disease. However, in this study he
altered and misrepresented all the study participants medical histories and in doing so impacted
medicine and public health for the foreseeable future (Cohen). Although the study was proven false
within a year and Wakefield was stripped of his medical license individuals still

Judaism follows the Ten Fundamental Principles which was derived from the Torah. The Torah
is the central reference of Judaism. The Jew s Torah is essentially the Christian s Bible.
Although Judaism is the main religion, it branches off into three denominations. These
denominations include: orthodox, conservative, and reform Judaism. Orthodox Judaism is then
divided into modern orthodox and ultra orthodox Judaism. Because Jews are often offended by
the term ultra orthodox, they refer to themselves as Haredi. An orthodox Jew is a person who
follows the principles and practices of traditional Judaism strictly. Modern orthodox Judaism is
a orthodox practice that synthesizes Jewish values and laws with the modern world, while an
ultra orthodox, or Haredi Jew, distances themselves from modern culture. Compared to orthodox
Jews, conservative Jews adhere by the principles and practices of traditional Judaism but allow
some departure. Similar to orthodox Jews, conservative Judaism once broke off into a branch
called reconstructional Judaism. A reconstructionist Jew followed the modern american
movement that viewed Judaism as a progressively evolving civilization rather than a religion
during the late 1920s until the 1940s. This movement was based on the ideas of Mordecai
Kaplan, a rabbi, an essayist, and a Jewish educator. The final denomination is reform Judaism.
Reform Judaism is also known as liberal or progressive Judaism. Reform Judaism is the
abandonment of orthodox Jew aspects in order to adjust to modern changes in political, social, and
cultural life. Although the main goal of reform Judaism is to adjust to modern changes, the
denomination stills follows the moral lessons of the Torah. Because there are denominations that
fit to everybody s needs, it can be assumed that more people will convert to Judaism based on their

51. Persuasive Essay On Stop And Frisk
Parayno, Jay Mard
English 105
Professor Zaragoza
December 11, 2016
Stop and Frisk Stop and frisk is a tactic designed for reducing crime by allowing police officers to
stop and search individuals that may seem suspicious. This law allows police officers to search
individuals only if they have reasonable suspicion that a crime might occur or if the suspect is
carrying anything illegal or dangerous. Between the years of 2002 and 2016, there have been 5
million stop and streets interrogations, and nine out of 10 individuals who were stopped have
been completely innocent ( Stop and Frisk Data ). With that being said, stop and frisk should not
continue to be a policing tactic because it is ineffective, it gives too much power to police officers,
and promotes racial profiling. One misconception that many believe is that the stop and frisk
program brings in many criminals or even those that have potential; however, many stop and
frisk incidents were unsuccessful, making the tactic ineffective. According to the NYPD s own
report, over 100,000 people were stopped every year since 2002 and every year above 77% were
innocent ( Stop and Frisk Data ). In an interview conducted by Amy Goodman for Democracy
Now, she interviews a NYPD officer named Adhyl Polanco ( NYPD Officer Risks ). He states
that the officers will cuff anyone just to meet their quota. Polanco continues, But when you take

In the novel Madame Bovary, Flaubert drew attention to the concept of social class and
studiously built all the characters according to their place in the communal hierarchy.
Housekeepers, nurses, and footmen, were representatives of the lower class people, who served
a purpose of aiding the middle class families, including the Bovary s. The higher class consisted
of Rodolphe (the wealthy aristocrat) and the guests we were introduced to at the ball earlier on in
the book. The novel s protagonist, Emma Bovary, who was educated in a convent and raised in
the country, was undoubtedly categorized as a middle class woman, yet whether or not that was
her rightful status is the overriding question. Emma married Charles at a young age in an attempt
to detach herself from the mediocre way of life at the farm, yet he failed to live up to the fanatical
romance and sophistication her novels set. Her ego and belief that she was strained into a situation

exploring the attitudes and morals portrayed in the poem Charge of the Light Brigade written by
Alfred Lord Tennyson; through the literary devices, themes and form, and how they are relevant to
the Crimean War.
Alfred Lord Tennyson, is a renowned British poet from the Victorian Era. Loving books as a

intrigued by the war, decided to write about the famous Battle of Balaclava; where the British
Cavalry had in fact attacked the wrong unit whilst in battle. This lead to his most famous poem

the British made.

Digitally illegal music file sharing is now mainstream. But should it be legal to those who have
broken the law against the music industry and its artists? More specifically by RIAA the

agree that music files should be digitally shared, so everyone can have easy access to their favorite
music without spending a substantial amount of money. But not everyone agrees with this idea.
Some people believe that music file sharingshould be illegal since record companies and artists
have lost an enormous account of income because of the drops of the sales. There is a variety of
different points of aspects on if digitally music file sharing should be illegal or not. There are many
people ,including artists and people related to the music industrybusiness, that they are totally
