The Issue Of First Amendment Law
For many years, there has been a struggle of protection and privacy between government rules and
citizen freedoms under the First Amendment. The controversial issues that fall under First
Amendment law have been disputed continuously. Because the First Amendment protects citizens
against government interference of freedom of expression, the boundaries of this rule have always
been pushed. One of the most common, yet controversial, issues of First Amendment law is the
subject of copyrightand infringement. Although the subject may not seem major at first, many
different issues and controversies have risen and become more common than ever over the years.
The issues that have become pertinent to this subject are endless, including trademark
infringement, piracy, theft, fraud, plagiarism, and many more. With the coming of age and
advancement of technology, these cases have become more common and appear more often than
ever before. Government officials have always been strict about copyright rulings, and have tried
to deliver fair and just rulings for both parties involved under First Amendment rules. Because the
owner s work and material is protected under the First Amendment, it gets tricky when involving
another party that can claim the same work of art. In short, the definition of copyright has always
been cut and dry: allowing owners of creative works the right to control and profit from their
creations. It is basically recognized as a form of property ownership.

The Clash Between Samuel Huntington s The West And The Rest
Despite the fact that former president George W. Bush stated on several occasions that there is
no clash of civilizations, or dismissed it as a passing myth of history, the language he employed
all along his War on Terror emphasized a clash of the United States of America, presented as the
heart and soul of the Western civilization believing in democracy, freedom and peace, against an
evil civilization determined to destroy all that. Bush, obviously, projected a world view of
extremes, where there is no middle ground or compromise. He assumed that his citizens and other
nations are either with his administration on the side of good or with the enemy on the side of evil,
leaving no middle choices.
His rhetoric has, therefore, divided the world into Samuel Huntington s The West and the Rest.
Whilst the Bush Cheney administration may have, seemingly, sought to avoid the notion of a clash
between Islam and the West , the rhetoric of clashing civilizations still crept into its discourse. As
the Clash of Civilizations thesis entered the discourse, the Islam versus West debate was boosted
and intensified. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

frequently carried immense weight in American official rhetoric. Historically speaking, however,
since its emergence as a concept in the late eighteenth century in Western Europe, acts of
extraordinary violence and brutality have been committed in the name of civilization. In his critique

Nike Promise And Peril Of Globalization Summary
The Promise and Peril of Globalization: The case of Nike. Nike was started in 1964 as a
sportswear company dealing with shoes but later diversified to start the production of other sports
wares such as clothes and balls and other sporting equipment. Nike has since become a household
name and is present in all continents. Growth. Nike started by importing sporting shoes from
cheaper producing countries, and selling them in the USA and thus providing the market with
cheaper, quality products in comparison to the expensive home product of other companies. With
this strategy, Nike was able to capture a good market share. This growth made the company start
designing their products, and contracting manufacturers from countries with cheaper labour to
produce for them while the company maintained a quality check from the producing factory. This
expansion began with contracting companies in Japan where they were importing from, but when
production started to become expensive, Nike started to look for other options and contracted
companies from Korea, China, Taiwan, and Thailand to start producing for them. It s in this
expansion that we start to see the effect of Globalization come to play and issues that affected the
good performance of Nike, though some of the factors seem to be under the control of... Show more

An Hour Tone
The short story The Story of an Hour is written by Kate Chopin. This story is about a married
woman named, Louise Mallard, who learns about her husband s death, and through the poem she
discovers the positives of this incident. She gradually learns the restrictions that have been lifted
and the new opportunities that arise due to her husband s death, however, the story ends by her
getting a heart attack when she sees her husband still alive, the story throughout is written in third
person point of view. Furthermore, Chopin believes that marriagecan be very restrictive on woman
because of the dominant role the male plays in the relationship and this is shown through the tone
and literary features of the poem.
First, the tone of the poem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The metaphor in the quote storm of grief , presents a sorrowful tone because it displays the
tragedy and misery she experiences due to her husbands passing, however this tone lasts only
for a small part in the beginning in the story and soon changes into a tone of elation.
Furthermore, the symbolism in the line blue sky showing here and there through the clouds [...]
shows the hopeful tone as it conveys how the blue sky begins to emerge from the darkness of
the clouds. The clouds are used to symbolise the husband s death and how the grieve she
experiences due to this incident begins to vanish as the sky clears up. This symbolises the hope
that Mallard begins to attain, and this device is used to hint at the increased opportunities and
benefits she will gain by being alone and gaining independence. Moreover, the realistic tone is
later presented at the end of the story. The dramatic irony in the line of the joy that kills is a
powerful indicator that shows restrictions that are placed on woman. This line is ironic because the
readers know that she did not die because of the joy when she saw her husband but in fact the shock
and disappointment

Analysis Of Detroit, The Motor City
Detroit, the motor city, known by many for cars and to others for being the murder capital of the
world. This has caused many people to stop visiting and exclude Detroit from being a place of
interest. I have lived here all my life, and yes it has had its rough times but lately Detroit has been
improving drastically. The causes of the city to improve were to make people already living here
feel safer. Moreover, to change our illustration as one of the most dangerous cities. In addition to
this we want people to start visiting again and to see the metamorphosis that has struck our city.
Many recent changes brought to our city have been architectural, criminal rates precipitating and
film making. The city as a whole has been working diligently to improve and keep improving.
Although we face economical issues, dealing with the bankruptcy has been priority to many. By
analyzing Detroitthese past few years there has been major change everywhere that has brought a
positive effect to our atmosphere. In recent years, Detroit has pulverized much of its violence
within the city. It has been working with state police and county sheriffs to ensure that people
who live here are safer. The city is slowly but surely revitalizing and becoming a place of interest
to many. Moreover personal experiences have made me see this. A few years back I would hardly
see any police cars patrolling neighborhoods but now I see many always patrolling in southwest
Detroit. This has had a positive effect

Similarities Between Washington McNeely by Edgar Lee...
Many authors are inspired to write by other things like a special thing in their day or sometimes
other writings or poems. Washington Mcneely by Edgar Lee Masters and Our Town by
Thornton Wilder themes because Our Town was inspired by many of Edgar Lee Masters
poems. Both pieces of work share the themes of death and time, a character similarities between
Mrs. Webb and Washington McNeely. Two themes the poem has is death and time. The poem
displays the theme of time, because it starts out telling the story of a man who is from, and
raises his children in, a noble and rich family. As his children get older, 2 of them died, and the
others, to quote the poem all were gone, or broken winged or devoured by life . He had lost,
essentially all of his children, and as we find out his wife. The poem shows how he went from a
great man with a happy family, to a lost man who is all alone. The next theme the poem shows is
death. Death is all throughout the poem. It starts with a man living a good life, but as it goes on
his first child leaves, his next 2 children die, and the next 3 become incredibly unsocial and that s
not even it! Near the end his wife, the mother of all 6 children, dies. I sat under my cedar tree, till
ninety years were tolled. The poem ends with the man dying, after everything he had lost; he died
in his favorite place to be, under his cedar tree. The book also displays the same themes as the
poem. The book, Our Town shows the theme of time, because we see two

Walmart Failure in Germany
Many companies ambitions to position themselves (profitably) in foreign markets or to establish
themselves as global players have been thwarted by their inability to fully understand and to adapt
to the specific conditions of doing business in other countries, exposing their profound lack of
intercultural competence and managementskills.
This is exactly what happened to Wal Mart Germany. To begin with, it appointed four
CEOs during its first four years of operation. The first was Rob Tiarks, a US citizen and a Wal
Mart, Inc. senior vice president who had previously supervised around 200 US
Supercenters from the company headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas. Not only did he not speak

So far Wal Mart Germany has not succeeded in delivering on the second part of its value
proposition excellent customer service either. By contrast the company has repeatedly been rated
as only just or even slightly below average in terms of overall consumer satisfaction (Table 7).67
In our view, this is because
Wal Mart s traditional US centered view of customer service, enshrined in some of its famous
/notorious basic beliefs and rules, is only partly compatible with the expectations of German
consumers. This is in particular true of the famous tenfoot rule ( three meter rule in metric
Germany) and the institution of the
greeter (which, in the meantime, have been largely abolished after shoppers unaware of its key
role in Wal Mart s service concept had repeatedly complained that they had been harassed by
strangers on store premises). While yielding little tangible economic benefits German consumers
have been accustomed for decades to shopping at self service formats without any staff assistance

With the ruin of Mughal rule, Britain began hostile attack into the subcontinent. Wherever

The And The Bill Of Rights Essay

outlined by the text. Liberties and Rights what are the different between the two. Both of these
words are in the Declaration of Independences and the Bill of Rights. These two words always

interchangeable. However, they do example two different kinds of guaranteed protections. Supreme
Court Judge Felix Frankfurter stated that It s is a fair summary of Constitutional history that
landmarks of our liberties have often been forged in case involving not very nice people

The Art And Baroque Art Of Peter Paul Rubens
Peter Paul Rubens (b. Siegen, Germany, 1577; d. Antwerp, 1640) was a Flemish painter revered
as the most versatile and influential baroque artist of Northern Europe in the 17th century. Rubens
s art emphasizes the theory of artistic imitation, and blends features of the Italian High
Renaissance and Northern realism with elements from antiquity. Rubens specialized in making
altarpieces, portraits, landscapes, and history paintings of mythological and allegorical subjects.
In his painting Venus and Adonis, mid 1630s, Rubens juxtaposed Ovid s Metamorphoses (book
X) and Titian s Venus and Adonis, 1553 1554, to generate his own invention that relies on his
theories of artistic imitation. Rubens painting is predominantly influenced by, but not modeled
after Titian s piece, which he copied in Madrid in 1629. Rubens was born in the German town of
Siegen, in Westphalia. His father, Jan Rubens, a lawyer and alderman of Antwerp, had fled the
Spanish Netherlands in 1568 with his wife, Maria Pypelinckx, and four children to escape religious
persecution for his Calvinist beliefs. After Jan s death in 1587, the family returned to Antwerp,
where young Peter Paul, raised in his mother s Roman Catholic faith, and received a classical
education. His humanist education seriously began with his apprenticeship to Otto van Veen, with
whom he probably worked with from 1594 to 1598. During this period, Antwerp developed into an
important center for the Counter Reformation due to a serious

However, she later decides to take a risk and help with the story, and she becomes much more

real life, people who take risks for the good of the world are very strong. Another important
character is Aibileen, who is Minny s best friend. Aibileen and Minny are different in many
ways. For one thing, Aibileen is much quieter than Minny. Aibileen is always afraid to say the
wrong things in front of the white families she works for, because she has a fear of getting fired.
Aibileen also wishes that black and white people didn t have to be separate, while Minny doesn t
mind the racial segregation. Aibileen works for Elizabeth Leefolt, and she cares for Elizabeth s

Essay on The Crawling Module and Web Pages
With the first one, a collection can have various copies of web pages grouped according to the
crawl in which they were found. For the second one, only the most recent copy of web pages is
to be saved. For this, one has to maintain records of when the web page changed and how
frequently it was changed. This technique is more efficient than the previous one but it requires an
indexing module to be run with the crawling module. The authors conclude that an incremental
crawler can bring brand new copies of web pages more quickly and maintain the storage area
fresher than a periodic crawler.

IV.PROPOSED WORK
The functioning of Web crawler [10] is beginning with a set of URLs which is called as seed

present in the downloaded pages. The retrieved web pages are stored and well indexed on the
storage area so that by the help of these indexes they can later be retrieved as and when required.
The URLs which is extracted from the downloaded web page are confirmed to know whether
their associated documents have already been downloaded or not. If associated document are
not downloaded, the URLs are again allocated to web crawlers for further downloading. The same
process is repeated till no more URLs are missing for downloading. Millions of web pages are

The Beginnings of Greek Philosophy Essay
The Beginnings of Greek Philosophy
The Milesians and Heraclitus
Long before the time of Thales, a citizen of Miletus, in the district of Ionia on the west coast of
Asia Minor, Chaldaen astrologers had listed data on the position of the stars and planets. As Thales
studied these tables he thought he discerned a pattern or regularity in the occurrence of eclipses,
and he ventured to predict a solar eclipse that occurred on May 28th 585BC. Some scholars think
that this was just a lucky empirical guess, but if it was the discovery of an astronomical regularity or
natural law, then Thales may be credited with distinguishing Greek philosophy and science from the
somewhat aimless observations and disjointed information of the Eastern wise ... Show more

Since, too, a general theory must attempt to explain biological phenomena as well as physics and
astronomy, another reason for selecting water may have been its indepensibility to life. And a little
ingenuity can invent other considerations. But Anaximander (610 545?BC), Thales successor, in
additions to specific contributions to science, saw a difficulty in Thales general cosmology. If water
were he basic substance, he thought, fire could never have come into existence, for there is an
essential antagonism between their peculiar qualities. For the same reason, if the substratum were
fire, the existence of fire could not be explained.. Therefore, Anaximander assumed a Boundless that
was neither wet or dry, hot or cold, but rather indeterminately both wet and dry, cold and hot. Thus,
the matter of the universe was Boundless, not merely because it extended throughout infinite space,
but also, and mainly, because it was not bounded, limited, or defined by any quality. This original
substance produces the world and its content by a swirling motion that separates four qualities out
of the chaotic mass. This swirl explains the revolution of the starts and planets.
The third member of the Milesian school, Anaximenes (590 525BC) could not be persuaded to look

Theme Of One Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich
One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich Essay topic #2 Millions of people died in the 1950 s under
Joseph Stalin s rule. Although it is ethically wrong, Stalin sent innocent people to the gulags for
free labor he benefited from. In One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, Alexander Solzhenitsyn
primarily uses setting along with characterization and imagery to contribute to major themes
including the injustice of the Soviet Union, man versus nature, and the struggle to maintain
dignity. The setting of the Soviet Union allows the theme of injustice to arise as the guards have
complete power over the zeks. Solzhenitsyn portrays Buinovsky as a perfect example of a
brainwashed citizen of the Soviet Union. It is ironic how he believes in the justice of the
communist system yet he is a victim and a prime example of its injustice. For instance, while the
guards are searching the zeks, Buinovsky mentions the guards have no right to strip men in the
cold and the guards did not know Article nine of the Criminal Code (Pg.28). He continues on to

exemplifies the effect of the setting on the theme of man versus nature. In addition to the cruel

Compare And Contrast Tom Brady And Peyton Manning
Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have become household names in the past decade or so, and
for good reason. Both of these quarterbacks have shown game in and game out that they are
among the best to ever play. Anyone that knows the slightest bit about American football will
know exactly what someone means when they talk about these two in the Hall of Fame
discussion. So what makes these two quarterbacks different? Well, there is not much.
Throughout their storied careers, they have had to overcome hardships, which only reiterates
the point of their G.O.A.T. (Greatest of all time) status. These players are similar in their play
style and records, but are different due to the adversity and hardships each player has had to
overcome. The first and arguably most obvious similarity between these two players is that they
are two of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the position. Regardless if you ask someone that
dislikes either of these two, they will most likely agree that Brady and Manning have become the

whatever it takes to push the team to success. Another glaring similarity between these two
quarterbacks is their athleticism and play style. Neither of these players were gifted with speed.
However, they more than make up for their lack of agility with their throws. Their understanding of

The First Day Of English Class
I look the first debate judge in the eyes and he nods. Then my gaze drifts to the second one and
she smiles. Finally I look to my right at my final judge, he simply winks at me. I close my eyes
and count to three. It s finally time to begin; this is my time. These next three minutes everyone has
to listen to me and my opinion. I open my mouth, but the only thought going through my head is,
why? Why am I doing this? Why am I here? Why did I make this mistake?
It was the first day of English class and the teacher asked, who here has ever given a class
presentation before? I looked around hoping, praying, that someone else is like me. However
fate was not on my side. Every hand in the class was proudly raised high and I was all alone on my
little island of fear. The teacher looked directly at me and asked why I had not ever done a
presentation. I m a clicker, I mumbled, it was barely audible but the teacher heard it and his face
softened. Well Mr. Peschansky it s time you become a talker.
A psychological study done in the early 70 s found that people are more afraid of public speaking
then of death. Standing at the front of the room in my first debate tournament I realize just how
true that is. All I can hear is my heart hammering away in my chest, my legs feel like they are
going to give and I m shaking all over.
I never opened my mouth when I was in grade school. I was the kid that was always reading. If
my head was not buried in a book then something was probably

Sedgwick s Homosocial Continuum Of William Shakespeare s...
Sedgwick s Homosocial Continuum in William Shakespeare s Othello Where does it end? Where
did it begin? On a continuum, it is impossible to distinguish. Eve Sedgwick coined the idea of the
Homosocial continuum. Her argument involves gender, class, and hierarchical relationships. In
William Shakespeare s, Othello, many character pairings can be analyzed in relation to Sedgwick s
theories. The relationships that most interestingly relate to the homosocial continuum are
Desdemona and Emilia, Iagoand Roderigo, and Iago and Othello. First, Desdemona and Emilia
have a homosocial relationship that is easier to understand by today s standards based on
Sedgwick s assertions. Sedgwick states, The apparent simplicity...of the continuum, [for women],
would not be so striking if it were not in strong contrast to the arrangement among males (506).
Emilia and Desdemona s relationship, while certainly blurring the lines at points, would not be
questioned even today based on Sedgwick s claim that women are so much more free to move
along the homosocial continuum. It is typical for women to care for one another and desire one
another s company, including physical touch and intimate dialogue. At Desdemona s death bed,
Emilia arrives to discover the situation and cries out,
Emilia. Out, and alas! that was my lady s voice. Help, help, ho! help. O lady, speak again! Sweet
Desdemona! O sweet mistress speak! (Act V, Scene III, Line 119) In this moment it is clear that

The Dilemmas Of Public Education And Public School...
The greatly discussed dilemma of having a child be taught in a public school setting versus a
homeschool setting has been evaluated by parents since the idea was first introduced in the 1970 s.
Public schooling had been the standard method of teaching since it is a requirement for states to
provide public, free educationfor children in grades K 12. However, the backlash against the system
began when two educational theorists and supporters of schoolreform, John Holt and Raymond
Moore, started to question both the techniques and the products of public schools. Some parents
went on to support the ideas of them and began to teach their children in the environment of their
own homes for several different reasons. Some included moral or religious reasons, a desire for
high educational achievement, dissatisfaction with public schools instructional program, or
concerns about drugs and peer pressure in a public school environment. Child development
specialists believe that homeschooled children are isolated from the outside world, therefore
making them socially handicapped. If being exposed to this type of education on an elementary
school level, the child can suffer from the lack of fundamental development of effective social
skills needed for a lifetime ahead of them.
It is believed that by restricting children from the real world and its many problems through home
schooling, they may never get the chance to learn both life lessons and social interaction skills on

Many of us dream of becoming rich to live the life that we always wanted. However, being rich
doesn t mean that you are always financially free. Once you become rich, you always think that
your lifestyle should change and usually it becomes expensive. There are people who had
millions of money, but lost it all in just a short span of time. Just look at some of the lotto
winners who won millions of pesos and have spent it all in a snap. Since they have a lot of
money on hand, they bought big mansions, luxury cars and go to parties almost every night.
They spent every cent of their prize buying everything life has to offer them. Later on as time
passes by, their money is getting smaller and no longer enough to sustain their chosen lifestyle. So
to avoid the agony of going back to the rags once again, they resort to debts and all sort of loans
out there. This is not what financial freedom is all about.
Here are 8 reasons why you need to become financially free than just aim being rich:
1) To cover all your needs. This

The Problem Of Water Privatization
Water privatization, the sale and transportation of water supplies to private companies, is becoming
more commonly used and is affecting several populations in negative ways. Jeneen Interlandi, an
author of World Watch Magazine, claims that private companies will not be able to manage water
supplies in an efficient manner and should sale and management of the world s water supplies to
state and local governments (Interlandi). I believe that water privatizationshould indeed be put to an
end because it is causing water prices to up and become less affordable, completely cutting off
water access to several communities, and brings contamination and diseases to villages and the
environment.

Bolivian citizens revolted into a violent protest that ended the water contract. Similar situations are
still happening around the world today. The construction that goes into digging and reaching fresh
water supplies is expensive, so China has become open to foreign investments and has raised
water rates to more than the public can afford to pay for, despite water being a necessity
(Interladi). If not protesting, citizens simply skip buying water or cut down on how much of it they
buy immensely because they cannot afford the high rates (Runyan). My point is that charging
consumers more than they can afford for a necessity does not guarantee profit. Private companies
and investors assume the consumers have to buy a necessity like water, so they immorally take
advantage and force some families to choose between water and other necessities. After paying
more than they can for so long, consumers will simply stop buying and many will even revolt. So
far, private companies main targets have been developing and poor countries since they could use
the financial support to gain funds and improve their infrastructures and communities. According to
Erica Gies, Developing countries are often pushed into water privatization deals against their will
because they need loans from international development agencies. (Gies). Countries with already
developed infrastructures like the United

How Does State Lottery Affect Society
A state lottery is a revenue source that extracts a great deal of money from the people who can
least afford it; some say it is a tax on stupidity. Do the rich play the lottery? Some members of the
middle class may play as an occasional, inexpensive diversion, but the vast majority of people who
play the lotteryare poor. Merely because the poor are in a more economically desperate position.
Currently 43 states in the United States run lotteries as a government operation. Stateofficials claim
the profit made from the famous lotteries such as Powerball and Mega Millions is donated to
improving the society; however, lotteries unscrupulously and negatively impact our society because

The State Government hits the poorest the hardest. Lotteries take the most from those who can
least afford it. A 2010 study found that households with take home incomes of less than $13,000
spent on average $645 a year on lottery tickets, which is about 9% of their income. The reason
people play lotteries varies, but it mixes hopes and dreams with desperation: poorer people see it
as a slim chance to radically improve their standard of living. Ethnicity and education also play a
role in purchasing lottery tickets. In Texas, African Americans and Hispanics outspend
Caucasians nearly two to one on lottery tickets. According to a 2005 Texas Tech demographic
survey commissioned by the lottery, African Americans in Texas spend $109 a month on lottery
tickets, Hispanics spend $102, and Caucasians spend $55. Household with incomes under
$25,000 spent an average of about $600 a year, while $100,000 plus earners spent about $300
year. People who never graduated from college spent the most, about $700 a year, while
graduates spent under $200.This is taking money from the poor, working and lower middle
classes than form those most able to pay taxes. These billions also are diverted away from local
businesses it is exactly the opposite of the kind of economic stimulus a depressed economy needs.

The Influence Of Trash On The Beaches In The United States
A significant amount of my childhood was spent on the beaches in my mom s hometown of

trash on these beaches has become more apparent and I have become more involved with this
issue. For me, being a global citizen means protecting the planet and the people who reside in it,
and this can be tackled by altering the way we treat waste. In the United States we live in a
disposable society. We throw out plastic products after one use and dispose of gently used clothing
and electronics. These products can take hundreds of years to decompose in a landfill or can affect

What went wrong in this example? A number of very bright people spent a lot of time re designing
a task to make it more efficient, but ended up with poorer performance, employee dissatisfaction,
and probably higher hiring and training costs. The well intentioned managers at Hovey and Beard
ignored the lessons of history. They introduced what most managers believed were methods to
improve efficiency without considering the likelihood of undesirable side effects. It was these side
effects, however, that caused efficiency to decline instead of increase. For these reasons, among
others, this chapter explains the development of management thought and shows why the
application of some still popular concepts and techniques do not always work out as planned.
EARLY MANAGEMENT
The practice of management can be traced back in time thousands of years. The Chinese
bureaucracy was, for example, fully developed into a hierarchy of officials based upon a merit
rating system perhaps as early as 1000 B.C. One of the most ancient terms used to describe the
position of a manager is that of vizier in Egypt. The title was in use around 1750 B.C. and
probably earlier. The rule of ten in the span of management was an Egyptian practice of allocating
around 10 servants to each supervisor. The ancient concepts

Due to the financial crisis, FW s assets were devalued and were transferred to its parent
company. Assuming that FW does not have enough resources to pay WFJ for the damages,
Samuel (WFJ s managing director) should be concerned about the restructuring of the group
because it will affect the amount that it can claim from the FW or the group. Therefore, the
bigger issue is whether WFJ can claim the damages from FW s parent company. In Salomon v A
Salomon Co Pte Ltd [1897], it was held that the veil of incorporation creates a separate legal
personality and a company should be treated like an independent person. In Gramaphone and
Typewriter Ltd v Stanley [1908], it was held that the business run by the subsidiary was not the
holding company s business. In the eyes of the law, FW is a separate entity from its parent
company. Therefore, the parent company is not liable for FW s liabilities. However at times,
incorporation is used to circumvent the law or hide the true state of affairs from the court.4 Hence,
there are exceptions to the doctrine of separate legal entity. This allows the court to pierce the veil

Gluckel of Hameln’s Memoirs
Gluckel of Hameln s memoirs Gluckel of Hameln was a Jewish woman from Hamburg who
lived in the seventeenth century. She wrote her lengthy memoirs in Yiddish. Her memoir is
regarded to be one of the most important documents for European Jewish history written by a
Jewish woman. The diary or the memoirs are addressed to her fourteen children. In 1690,
Gluckel became a widow after the death of her husband and the memoirs were a therapeutic way
to heal her wounded heart. The diary was used to take away her sad thoughts and to get her
through her sadness. She states I am not writing this book in order to preach to you, but, as I have

In her memoir in book five she gives credit to some of the women like Esther Mattie who she
describes as, A pious, honorable woman who ...always went to fairs. Gluckel also recognizes
widows like Baruch of Berlin, who she says ... still remained fully in business after her husband
s death. The information reflects how the Jewish businesswomen took seriously their work by
travelling to the fairs abroad to sell their goods. This was atypical to the German Christian wives
who stayed within the city walls and played their role in the retail sector. Unlike the German
Christian wives, the Jewish wives were not viewed to be flattering by becoming dominant
members of society and be fully engaged in the male dominant labor force. The Jewish wives were
viewed as subordinates in the society who were assumed to become active and bring home an
income. The Jewish women travelled to the fairs to sell their merchandise and this did not
undermine the woman s reputation. Unlike their Christian partners, women who earned much
brought additional marriage proposals, because it indicated the woman s commitment to her
husband and family. The memoirs serve as a reminder to her children to know the value of hard
work. The memoir shows the distinction between hard work of the German Jewish women and the
German Christian women in the 17th and 18th century. The memoirs have placed the main focus
on the comparison of German Jewish women s lives and that of German Christian women s lives.

The Call Of Cthulhu Analysis
WHAT TYPE OF HORROR In The Call of Cthulhu, H.P. Lovecraft makes use of a more
psychological horror path, which is a major aspect of Lovecraftian horror. Psychological horror
uses more suspense build up and shock than blood and gore. H.P. Lovecraft accomplishes this by
using a buildup of suspense, not revealing the monster till the end while hinting at what the monster
is throughout the story. H.P. Lovecraft writes the main character following his great uncle s
manuscript and piecing together the puzzle of the Great Ones. H.P. Lovecraft also creates the sense
of suspense by making the main character s inner dialogue contain the main characters emotions
and thoughts of suspect. Another example of the use of psychological horror is when Henry
Anthony Wilcox dreams of the Great Ones, and experiences a period of mental breakdown that
physicians could not identify. Once Henry Anthony Wilcox came out of the episode he remembered
nothing, creating a shock factor, and making the reader ask how did that happen? In Gramma,
Stephen King, similar to H.P. Lovecraft, travels a psychological horror path. Stephen King
accomplishes the psychological horror aspect by the buildup of suspense, until everything
comes to fruition in the last few pages of the story. Within the middle of the story George goes in
to check in on Gramma only to find out, Gramma is dead. Gramma has no pulse and is not
breathing, George even goes as far as putting a mirror in front of Grammas nose to make sure
she wasn t breathing. With everything checked and double checked by George to make sure
Gramma is dead it comes as a surprise when later in the story Gramma s hand grabbed Georges.
Gramma is supposed to be dead yet she grabs Georges wrist and then calls out to him saying
come here, boy, ... come in here Gramma wants to hug you, (King, 1984, page 543). Although
Gramma coming back to life is a huge shock factor the build up of suspense to that shock factor
makes the story a psychological horror. H.P. Lovecraft, in The Call of Cthulhu, and Stephen King,
in Gramma, use psychological horror. In The Call of Cthulhu, the buildup of suspense is more
prominent than the shock factor, and in Gramma, the shock factor is more

Parenting Styles In Psychology
Psychology is the science of the mind and behavior of living beings. This area of study originally
began in December 1879 by a German college professor named Wilhelm Wundt, but it is still a
widely researched topic today. Over the past few centuries, psychologists have dedicated their lives
to researching how the mindand actions of others correlate. Through their research, they have
discovered concepts such as sensation and perception, learning, memory, thinking, motivation and
emotions, health, and personalities. These discoveries have contributed greatly to society to help
explain why some people behave differently than others. Scientists have also learned that people are
not born knowing everything, but rather they develop over their lifespan. Factors such as parenting
styles, psychological disorders, genetics, environments, and personality components are present in
the development of people, including myself. These elements affect the outcome of someone s
mental and physical decisions. Parenting styles are one of the most impactful factors of a person s
development in life. The three major parenting styles are authoritarian, permissive, and
authoritative. Authoritarian parents forceful and they use many rules and expect complete respect
out of their children. Permissive parents are very relaxed in their requests and punishments for their
children. Thirdly, authoritative parents are demanding and hold expectations, but they also

Leadership Behavior In Lao Tzu
Introduction Lao Tzu, the Father of Taoism, lived a large part of his life searching for an
individual s path of natural goodness. He is known for numerous inspirational quotes, such as Be
the Chief, but never the lord. This has been a source of encouragement throughout my Coast
Guard career. The title of lord is inherited or assigned as a positional power granted by
landowners. The Chief is chosen by the people to make the right decisions for their advantage. It is
an earned position of trust. Based on my interpretation of Lao Tzu s quote, my definition of
leadershipis to have others follow by choice not by mere power. A person cannot rule by force
granted to them by rank and expect subordinates to follow blindly. They must demonstrate leading
by example and be a role model for others to admire.
Leadership Influences As I reflect back, I recognize my definition of leadership in my mentors and
supervisors. A short list of the mentors I revered include: CWO4 Kenneth Hawko, MSTCM Judd
Reno, Commander John Humpage, Rear Admiral Joanna Nunan, and BMC Mike Hunt. Their
leadership naturally flowed from their personalities. I viewed these men and woman as my leaders
and their attitudes is what made me choose to follow them.

Russian Working Conditions in the 19th Century
Karl Marx drafted The Communist Manifesto with Friedrich Engels in the mid 19th century after
living in Moscow and seeing the strife of laborers there. The document was a reflection on the two
men s belief that the wealthier members of society were exploiting the working class. From his
experience in Russian society, Marx became concerned with the way that the majority of the
proletariat class was living. The filthy and inhumane working conditions, the negligible wages, and
the way that the employers disrespected their employees, all led to Marx penning The Communist
Manifesto. The theme of humans and nature is shown by the ideas that Marx and Engels wrote

As Paul Brians states,
The old feudal restrictions which had fixed peasants in place on the land and limited their income
had also guaranteed them a place in the world. They may not have prospered, but they were often
able to fend off starvation and homelessness simply because they had been born onto estates from
which they could not be removed against their wills. [i]
After the feudal system was destroyed, workers moved to the cities and began to participate in
what would later be referred to as, The Industrial Revolution.
As technology increased and the demand for manufactured goods grew, more and more Russian
peasants migrated to the cities. Soon the big metropolises such as St. Petersburg and Moscow
became hubs for the demands of the industrial world. As the number of factories expanded, so did
the number of laborers, and in turn, the conditions in these workplaces worsened. As Bonnell writes,
In the second half of the nineteenth century the face of traditional Russian society began to
change. Many villages and towns became transformed into factory centers, and mills started to
appear where once there had been only peasant huts. In the leading urban centers of the Russian
Empire St. Petersburg, the modern capital, and its predecessor, Moscow the pace of
industrialization was rapid and intense. Factories and shops were springing up as never before,

The Importance Of Christianity In The Byzantine Church Of...
The Byzantine church of Saint George located in Madaba, Jordan, is rather modest but contains a
treasure of early Christianity: a large mosaic map etched on the floor of the church. The map dates
back to sixth century and depicts the places of spiritual importance in the Christian faith. It is no
surprise that the city of Jerusalemis portrayed as the center of the map, representing the significance
of Jerusalem to Christianity. It was in this city that the crucifixion of Jesus mobilized the creation of
the second Abrahamic religion itself. The map illustrates many of the Christian holy buildings in
Jerusalem, including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, a church built on the Western Hill during
the Byzantine period. Space and religion share an intimate connection. Early Judaismfocused on the
temple as the site where contact with the divine could be made. However, following the
Babylonian exile, the Israelites were forced to adapt and develop ways to worship away from the
temple. They began performing daily rituals of worship such as the Sabbath and adhering to a
special diet. They eventually came to believe that the presence of their God was not solely bound
to the confines of the Temple in Jerusalem, but rather that his presence was mobile as it had
originally been. Thus, over time the temple was less and less imperative to the religion. By the time
Christianity was founded, the temple remained an important symbol and place of worship, as well
as a symbol of the presence and strength of its religion in Jerusalem. In his essay Space, historian
and scholar Thomas Tweed argues that religious space is kinetic and interrelated, and thus has
relations to the political, social, and economic spheres and is also connected to both the past, the
present, and the future. The ideological religious, topographical, and politico economic
transformations associated with the Church of the Holy Sepulchre embody the interrelated and
kinetic nature of the space through their demonstration of the shift from Eastern Hill to Western
Hill, the shift from spiritual faith to an earth centered faith, and the change in Byzantine imperial
policy from Hadrian s Aelia Capitolina to Constantine s Christian city. The construction of the

Music And Perceptions And Emotional Responses
In the last decade, there has been much debate over the value of musical training in schools.
Although some people claim that music education in schools is a waste of time and resources,
research has found that musical training can improve various cognitive processes and skills, such
as the development of language, reasoning, pattern recognition, and memory. These skills can
translate into other school subjects as well. This paper explores the relationship between music and
perceptions and emotional responses, and also examines the cognitive benefits of musical training.
In order to understand the relationship between music and cognitive processes, it is important to
understand how music is perceived and processed in the brain. Musical perception and cognition
are both actively constructed by the listener, as opposed to being passively transferred from the
performer to the listener (Iyer, 159). There are three levels of musical perception: the raw
psychophysical perception of tones, the perception of abstract qualities of tones apart from their
source, and the apprehension of environmental objects that give rise to the sound events (Handel,
181). According to Stephen Handel, the first level of perception is when the listener first hears and
perceives a musical stimulus such as melody, harmony, tonality, rhythm, meter, and form. The
second level of musical perception is when the listener perceives abstract qualities of the musical
stimuli. The final level of musical

PTSD In Soldier s Heart
In the book Soldier s Heart by Gary Paulsen, Charley Goddard says, I have got to become a man
sometime. Charley, a boy about 15 years old, lives on a farm with his ma, and his little brother
Oran. His dad will not come around anymore because he gets kicked to death by a horse that
goes mad.The horse goes mad because a bee lands on it. Charley wants to me a man and grow
up, so he continues to ask his ma if he can join the army. His ma lets him join the army because
she thinks the war will quickly come to an end, but little does she know it will not. Charley joins
the war, and comes out with a soldiers heart. A soldier s heart represents the soldiers that come
home looking different or acting different from when they first left. Also known as PTSD, which
goes by Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Charley develops from a boy looking for adventure into a
young man with a soldier s heart because he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since he has chosen to go to war at a young age, he sees several things others do not want to see.
Since being home, he lives on his own and does not bother looking for a wife because he thinks
he is too old. Although he is only 23, he says he becomes old from seeing too much, old from too
much life, and old from knowing too much. He is walking with a cane, and he passes blood.
Charley does not think he will be alive any longer. In certain ways it makes him sad, but in other
ways it makes him happy having to not remember all that he has gone through. He makes himself
a picnic near the creek. While watching the water flow, he often wonders whether he should visit
the others, and by others Charley means the people who got killed in the war. Charley keeps a
weapon he took off of a confederate officer, who has been dead. He comes close to visiting the
others because he wants the pain to go away, but now he decides not to leave. He is continuing to
think about the pretty things instead of the bad things he thinks about

A Short Note On Numerical Analysis Of Various Turbulence...
2 D Numerical Analysis of Various Turbulence Models in CFD for External Flow over a Cylinder
Tharikaa Ramesh kumar
Graduate Student, Aerospace Engineering, Auburn University, Auburn, AL, USA
The effects of turbulence on a flow can be predicted by Turbulence modeling in Computational
Fluid Dynamics. Numerous turbulence models have been developed over the time and are used
for envisioning the characteristics of the flow in different flow regimes in terms of time averaged
quantities for both internal and external flows. Still, one of the challenges in CFD is to simulate
the significant flow physics. Numerical analysis will be carried out to investigate the capabilities
of the various turbulence models in CFD. External flow over a cylinder ... Show more content on

Over the past decades, the laminar and turbulent unsteady viscous flow behind a circular cylinder
has been the subject of numerous experimental and numerical studies. Flow past a bluff body like
the circular cylinder usually experiences very strong flow oscillations and boundary layer
separation in the wake region behind the body. In certain Reynolds number range, a periodic flow
motion will develop in the wake as a result of boundary layer vortices being shed alternatively
from either side of the cylinder. For assessing the ability of computational flow solving software
to reproduce real flow conditions flow around a cylinder is an excellent case because of
simplicity of the geometry and the complex nature of flow around the body. The flow regimes
can be divided based on the Re and the behavior of the flow around the cylinder in these regimes
as Steady axisymmetric regime (20 Re 210), Steady planar symmetric regime (210 Re 270),
Unsteady planar symmetric regime (270 Re 400), Unsteady asymmetric regime (400 Re 1000),
Turbulent wake regime (Re 1000). One of the most important but unsolved problem in the area of
engineering and sciences are Turbulence. Solving the time dependent three dimensional Navier
stokes equation might give a complete description of turbulent flows but with the available
computers are not capable enough to solve for the required length and time

Lester B Pearson Impact On Society
Throughout history there have been many great Canadians who have changed Canada in a
positive way. Lester Bowles Pearson (see figure 1) was a Toronto professor, a historian, and the
14th Prime Minister of Canada. Lester Pearson was in office from 1963 1968 and was considered a
great leader. Through his many important decisions and accomplishments, he made a significant
positive impact in developing Canadas history.
Lester B. Pearson was born in Toronto in 1897 and died in 1972. During his lifetime he improved
the lives of many Canadians by implementing a Canada Pension Plan, introducing Canada s first
distinctive national flag, oversaw the adoption of an official national anthem, and the enactment of
a Universal Medicare System.

Before Lester B. Pearson came into office there was no healthcare system in Canada resulting in
poor health for many Canadians. When the Medicare system was introduced it meant a better life
for many citizens of Canada. A Medicare system was first developed during WWI to help
wounded veterans. 7 In July of 1962, Medicare became the first government controlled, universal,
comprehensive single payer medical insurance plan in North America. 8 With the availability of
Medicare, sick labourers returned to good health allowing them to go back to work. The return to
work provided family members with an increase in income, therefore stimulating the economy with
the extra money available to spend. The Medicare system promoted a sense of patriotism wherein
Canadians helped Canadians. Because of Pearson s implementation of the Medicare system,
positive significant changes resulted for

Love Relationships Comparison between Today and...
Love is the basis of our existence. It affects our every moment, dreams, and hope for the future.
Love has caused wars, ended lives, toppled governments and has been expounded on by poets,
musicians, philosophers, and literates throughout the centuries. Research from Syracuse
University shows that it takes about a fifth of a second to fall in love and it affects almost every
part of our body. Our brain releases dopamine, a natural chemical that gives us energy and
optimism. Love is similar to a drug and can become an addiction because it affects our brain
much like other drugs by triggering the dopamine reward part of our brain. Love even affects a

Media knows that belonging and love will sell perfume to attract, make up to look your best,
items to keep your family safe and other popular items just to have what you need to fit in or
belong to a certain in group. Media not only influence a person s purchase choices but also can
sway their political opinions. What is seen on the news can influence people to hate a certain
group because they are a threat to the safety of families or politically influence a vote for a
candidate because so families will prosper. Media influences self esteem by suggesting finding
love or being able to fit in a person should have a certain body type and if that goal is not met a
negative self image or feeling of failure could ensue. Eating disorders have been tied to media s
trend toward portraying women in certain model thinness and promoting only that body type
(Neda Feeding Hope). Media is 95% controlled by two companies NBC Universal and Sony
Corporation of America. They own radio, television, networks, programming, sports and movie
theaters and more. Since those two companies control what we are exposed to daily they can
have a strong influence on our behavior and motivators. Media is a business and as such they are
building audience ratings to promote revenue and profits (Curtis). Media is power because it

Analysis Of The Poem The Selkie Cave
The Selkie swam into his undersea cave that contained his human clothing. Last evening he d
had a vision he would find his life mate in the area above the sea caves. He needed to find her as
his vision was too strong to disregard. She was a well built sturdy young Scot lass with sparkling
green eyes and long dark auburn hair which flowed to her waist. He had seen her in his dream,
dancing at the local Highland Gathering. The young woman in his dreams was Mackenzie
Sutherlands destiny. He strode into the clan gathering, he noticed her dancing a Highland Fling
with her kilt and hair whipping around her tight young body. Her smile flashed as she moved to
the intricate steps of her dance. Her cheeks flushed and her eyes blazed with a heat which drew
him like a moth to a flame. Around and around she swirled and kicked to the music of the
bagpipes. As she spun around, he could see her beautiful long legs and the sweet curve of her
rounded bottom. Her waist, he realized he could circle with his hands. Her bust was full and
appeared to be a plump handful. Her complexion was pale as peaches he d read about in books
from her world. While he enjoyed her dance, passion heated his blood, and Mackenzie
recognized she was the young woman from his dream. Skye loved the dancing and the way she
felt as the men s eyes remained on her. In her young girl s mind, she understood the power she held
over them. She viewed the young dark haired stranger who watched her with a

The Struggles And Inequalities Of Mexican Americans
In the educational setting, Mexican Americans have faced discrimination, segregation, and
inequality for many years. This paper discusses the struggles and inequalities that Mexican
Americans have faced in education. I will focus on different educational time periods and discuss
the problems and struggles that occurred in those time periods. The time periods that I give focus to
include educationin the Spanish Mexican era (1519 1848), education and early Anglo rule in the
Southwest (1836 1890), the expansion of American education (1890 1960), and education in the
contemporary period (1960 present). Education in the Spanish Mexican era lasted from 1519 until
1848. During this period, education occurred in informal and formal settings and was aimed
towards the Indian population, who were Spanish subjects. Education in informal settings was the
general norm and the most important informal settings were missions, presidios, and civilian
settlements. The purpose of educating the Indians was to substitute their identity with a Spanish
one and to also teach them the acceptance of their social relegation. The way the Spanish did this
was by teaching the Indians literacy, music, the Catholic faith, Spanish manners, and by repressing
their indigenous religious and social beliefs (Kloosterman 2). Education and the early Anglo rule in
the Southwest lasted from 1836 until 1890. From 1836 to about 1850, formal education took place
in schools that were founded by the Catholic Church.

Research Paper On The Book Of Enoch
The three books of Enoch are commonly called 1 Enoch, 2 Enoch, and 3 Enoch. Even though
they are independent of one another they share many common characteristics. This essay will

work written about the Enoch, who is the great grandfather of Noah. Today s scholars estimate
that Enoch was written around 300 BC, and the earliest works to be around the first century BC. It
is not part of the biblical canon by the Jewish religion. It is canonical of the Beta Israel religion.

The Introduction of the Burqini in Europe
In January of 2007, a new style of bathing suit known as the Burqini became a media sensation.
Burqini is a multi piece head to toe bathing suit designed especially for women who follow Islam
and practice sartorial hijab and cover their entire body except face hands and feet. The media
created this portmanteau of burqa and bikini and referred to these full body multi piece swimsuits
to modestly dress Muslim women as burqinis. Burqini has received a lot of attention from media
from all over the world; both positive and negative, making it a sensational piece of garment in
21st century. The most public attention gained by this garment was in 2009 when it was banned in
Emerainville , a suburb of Paris in France and later in Italy making because it was unhygienic and
inappropriate clothing for a public baths. Therefore, making Burqini one of the most controversial
piece of clothing as it questions culture, religion, health and hygiene of the individual who wears
a Burqini along with the people who are in the same bath as the individual wearing Burqini. This
paper discusses how and why Burqini became a controversial piece of garment by focusing on
news stories, written records and personal interviews of people who wear Burqini. It critically
analyses and focuses on how this controversy of faith versus hygiene of Burqini wearers is just a
result of cultural clash.
Introduction of the burqini in Europe led to juxtaposing perspectives on whether or not it should be
allowed.

  • 3. The Issue Of First Amendment Law For many years, there has been a struggle of protection and privacy between government rules and citizen freedoms under the First Amendment. The controversial issues that fall under First Amendment law have been disputed continuously. Because the First Amendment protects citizens against government interference of freedom of expression, the boundaries of this rule have always been pushed. One of the most common, yet controversial, issues of First Amendment law is the subject of copyrightand infringement. Although the subject may not seem major at first, many different issues and controversies have risen and become more common than ever over the years. The issues that have become pertinent to this subject are endless, including trademark infringement, piracy, theft, fraud, plagiarism, and many more. With the coming of age and advancement of technology, these cases have become more common and appear more often than ever before. Government officials have always been strict about copyright rulings, and have tried to deliver fair and just rulings for both parties involved under First Amendment rules. Because the owner s work and material is protected under the First Amendment, it gets tricky when involving another party that can claim the same work of art. In short, the definition of copyright has always been cut and dry: allowing owners of creative works the right to control and profit from their creations. It is basically recognized as a form of property ownership. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Clash Between Samuel Huntington s The West And The Rest Despite the fact that former president George W. Bush stated on several occasions that there is no clash of civilizations, or dismissed it as a passing myth of history, the language he employed all along his War on Terror emphasized a clash of the United States of America, presented as the heart and soul of the Western civilization believing in democracy, freedom and peace, against an evil civilization determined to destroy all that. Bush, obviously, projected a world view of extremes, where there is no middle ground or compromise. He assumed that his citizens and other nations are either with his administration on the side of good or with the enemy on the side of evil, leaving no middle choices. His rhetoric has, therefore, divided the world into Samuel Huntington s The West and the Rest. Whilst the Bush Cheney administration may have, seemingly, sought to avoid the notion of a clash between Islam and the West , the rhetoric of clashing civilizations still crept into its discourse. As the Clash of Civilizations thesis entered the discourse, the Islam versus West debate was boosted and intensified. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nike was started in 1964 as a sportswear company dealing with shoes but later diversified to start the production of other sports wares such as clothes and balls and other sporting equipment. Nike has since become a household name and is present in all continents. Growth. Nike started by importing sporting shoes from cheaper producing countries, and selling them in the USA and thus providing the market with cheaper, quality products in comparison to the expensive home product of other companies. With this strategy, Nike was able to capture a good market share. This growth made the company start designing their products, and contracting manufacturers from countries with cheaper labour to produce for them while the company maintained a quality check from the producing factory. This expansion began with contracting companies in Japan where they were importing from, but when production started to become expensive, Nike started to look for other options and contracted companies from Korea, China, Taiwan, and Thailand to start producing for them. • 6. An Hour Tone The short story The Story of an Hour is written by Kate Chopin. This story is about a married woman named, Louise Mallard, who learns about her husband s death, and through the poem she discovers the positives of this incident. She gradually learns the restrictions that have been lifted and the new opportunities that arise due to her husband s death, however, the story ends by her getting a heart attack when she sees her husband still alive, the story throughout is written in third person point of view. Furthermore, Chopin believes that marriagecan be very restrictive on woman because of the dominant role the male plays in the relationship and this is shown through the tone and literary features of the poem. First, the tone of the poem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The metaphor in the quote storm of grief , presents a sorrowful tone because it displays the tragedy and misery she experiences due to her husbands passing, however this tone lasts only for a small part in the beginning in the story and soon changes into a tone of elation. Furthermore, the symbolism in the line blue sky showing here and there through the clouds [...] shows the hopeful tone as it conveys how the blue sky begins to emerge from the darkness of the clouds. The clouds are used to symbolise the husband s death and how the grieve she experiences due to this incident begins to vanish as the sky clears up. This symbolises the hope that Mallard begins to attain, and this device is used to hint at the increased opportunities and benefits she will gain by being alone and gaining independence. Moreover, the realistic tone is later presented at the end of the story. The dramatic irony in the line of the joy that kills is a powerful indicator that shows restrictions that are placed on woman. This line is ironic because the readers know that she did not die because of the joy when she saw her husband but in fact the shock and disappointment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is in particular true of the famous tenfoot rule ( three meter rule in metric Germany) and the institution of the greeter (which, in the meantime, have been largely abolished after shoppers unaware of its key role in Wal Mart s service concept had repeatedly complained that they had been harassed by strangers on store premises). • 16. The Art And Baroque Art Of Peter Paul Rubens Peter Paul Rubens (b. Siegen, Germany, 1577; d. Antwerp, 1640) was a Flemish painter revered as the most versatile and influential baroque artist of Northern Europe in the 17th century. Rubens s art emphasizes the theory of artistic imitation, and blends features of the Italian High Renaissance and Northern realism with elements from antiquity. Rubens specialized in making altarpieces, portraits, landscapes, and history paintings of mythological and allegorical subjects. In his painting Venus and Adonis, mid 1630s, Rubens juxtaposed Ovid s Metamorphoses (book X) and Titian s Venus and Adonis, 1553 1554, to generate his own invention that relies on his theories of artistic imitation. Rubens painting is predominantly influenced by, but not modeled after Titian s piece, which he copied in Madrid in 1629. Rubens was born in the German town of Siegen, in Westphalia. His father, Jan Rubens, a lawyer and alderman of Antwerp, had fled the Spanish Netherlands in 1568 with his wife, Maria Pypelinckx, and four children to escape religious persecution for his Calvinist beliefs. After Jan s death in 1587, the family returned to Antwerp, where young Peter Paul, raised in his mother s Roman Catholic faith, and received a classical education. The Beginnings of Greek Philosophy Essay The Beginnings of Greek Philosophy The Milesians and Heraclitus Long before the time of Thales, a citizen of Miletus, in the district of Ionia on the west coast of Asia Minor, Chaldaen astrologers had listed data on the position of the stars and planets. As Thales studied these tables he thought he discerned a pattern or regularity in the occurrence of eclipses, and he ventured to predict a solar eclipse that occurred on May 28th 585BC. Some scholars think that this was just a lucky empirical guess, but if it was the discovery of an astronomical regularity or natural law, then Thales may be credited with distinguishing Greek philosophy and science from the somewhat aimless observations and disjointed information of the Eastern wise ... Since, too, a general theory must attempt to explain biological phenomena as well as physics and astronomy, another reason for selecting water may have been its indepensibility to life. And a little ingenuity can invent other considerations. But Anaximander (610 545?BC), Thales successor, in additions to specific contributions to science, saw a difficulty in Thales general cosmology. If water were he basic substance, he thought, fire could never have come into existence, for there is an essential antagonism between their peculiar qualities. For the same reason, if the substratum were fire, the existence of fire could not be explained.. Therefore, Anaximander assumed a Boundless that was neither wet or dry, hot or cold, but rather indeterminately both wet and dry, cold and hot. Thus, the matter of the universe was Boundless, not merely because it extended throughout infinite space, but also, and mainly, because it was not bounded, limited, or defined by any quality. This original substance produces the world and its content by a swirling motion that separates four qualities out of the chaotic mass. This swirl explains the revolution of the starts and planets. The third member of the Milesian school, Anaximenes (590 525BC) could not be persuaded to look for the universal substratum beyond the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although it is ethically wrong, Stalin sent innocent people to the gulags for free labor he benefited from. In One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, Alexander Solzhenitsyn primarily uses setting along with characterization and imagery to contribute to major themes including the injustice of the Soviet Union, man versus nature, and the struggle to maintain dignity. The setting of the Soviet Union allows the theme of injustice to arise as the guards have complete power over the zeks. Solzhenitsyn portrays Buinovsky as a perfect example of a brainwashed citizen of the Soviet Union. It is ironic how he believes in the justice of the communist system yet he is a victim and a prime example of its injustice. For instance, while the guards are searching the zeks, Buinovsky mentions the guards have no right to strip men in the cold and the guards did not know Article nine of the Criminal Code (Pg.28). • 21. Compare And Contrast Tom Brady And Peyton Manning Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have become household names in the past decade or so, and for good reason. Both of these quarterbacks have shown game in and game out that they are among the best to ever play. Anyone that knows the slightest bit about American football will know exactly what someone means when they talk about these two in the Hall of Fame discussion. So what makes these two quarterbacks different? Well, there is not much. Throughout their storied careers, they have had to overcome hardships, which only reiterates the point of their G.O.A.T. (Greatest of all time) status. These players are similar in their play style and records, but are different due to the adversity and hardships each player has had to overcome. The first and arguably most obvious similarity between these two players is that they are two of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the position. Regardless if you ask someone that dislikes either of these two, they will most likely agree that Brady and Manning have become the face of the sport. When they take the field, they are unquestioned leaders and will always give whatever it takes to push the team to success. Another glaring similarity between these two quarterbacks is their athleticism and play style. Neither of these players were gifted with speed. However, they more than make up for their lack of agility with their throws. Their understanding of the game and the other team s defense allows them to make throws that would look close to ... These next three minutes everyone has to listen to me and my opinion. I open my mouth, but the only thought going through my head is, why? Why am I doing this? Why am I here? Why did I make this mistake? It was the first day of English class and the teacher asked, who here has ever given a class presentation before? I looked around hoping, praying, that someone else is like me. However fate was not on my side. Every hand in the class was proudly raised high and I was all alone on my little island of fear. The teacher looked directly at me and asked why I had not ever done a presentation. I m a clicker, I mumbled, it was barely audible but the teacher heard it and his face softened. On a continuum, it is impossible to distinguish. Eve Sedgwick coined the idea of the Homosocial continuum. Her argument involves gender, class, and hierarchical relationships. In William Shakespeare s, Othello, many character pairings can be analyzed in relation to Sedgwick s theories. The relationships that most interestingly relate to the homosocial continuum are Desdemona and Emilia, Iagoand Roderigo, and Iago and Othello. First, Desdemona and Emilia have a homosocial relationship that is easier to understand by today s standards based on Sedgwick s assertions. Sedgwick states, The apparent simplicity...of the continuum, [for women], would not be so striking if it were not in strong contrast to the arrangement among males (506). Emilia and Desdemona s relationship, while certainly blurring the lines at points, would not be questioned even today based on Sedgwick s claim that women are so much more free to move along the homosocial continuum. It is typical for women to care for one another and desire one another s company, including physical touch and intimate dialogue. At Desdemona s death bed, Emilia arrives to discover the situation and cries out, Emilia. Out, and alas! that was my lady s voice. Help, help, ho! help. O lady, speak again! Sweet Desdemona! • 24. The Dilemmas Of Public Education And Public School... The greatly discussed dilemma of having a child be taught in a public school setting versus a homeschool setting has been evaluated by parents since the idea was first introduced in the 1970 s. Public schooling had been the standard method of teaching since it is a requirement for states to provide public, free educationfor children in grades K 12. However, the backlash against the system began when two educational theorists and supporters of schoolreform, John Holt and Raymond Moore, started to question both the techniques and the products of public schools. Some parents went on to support the ideas of them and began to teach their children in the environment of their own homes for several different reasons. Some included moral or religious reasons, a desire for high educational achievement, dissatisfaction with public schools instructional program, or concerns about drugs and peer pressure in a public school environment. Child development specialists believe that homeschooled children are isolated from the outside world, therefore making them socially handicapped. If being exposed to this type of education on an elementary school level, the child can suffer from the lack of fundamental development of effective social skills needed for a lifetime ahead of them. It is believed that by restricting children from the real world and its many problems through home schooling, they may never get the chance to learn both life lessons and social interaction skills on their own ... The construction that goes into digging and reaching fresh water supplies is expensive, so China has become open to foreign investments and has raised water rates to more than the public can afford to pay for, despite water being a necessity (Interladi). If not protesting, citizens simply skip buying water or cut down on how much of it they buy immensely because they cannot afford the high rates (Runyan). My point is that charging consumers more than they can afford for a necessity does not guarantee profit. Private companies and investors assume the consumers have to buy a necessity like water, so they immorally take advantage and force some families to choose between water and other necessities. After paying more than they can for so long, consumers will simply stop buying and many will even revolt. So far, private companies main targets have been developing and poor countries since they could use the financial support to gain funds and improve their infrastructures and communities. • 34. The Call Of Cthulhu Analysis WHAT TYPE OF HORROR In The Call of Cthulhu, H.P. Lovecraft makes use of a more psychological horror path, which is a major aspect of Lovecraftian horror. Psychological horror uses more suspense build up and shock than blood and gore. H.P. Lovecraft accomplishes this by using a buildup of suspense, not revealing the monster till the end while hinting at what the monster is throughout the story. H.P. Lovecraft writes the main character following his great uncle s manuscript and piecing together the puzzle of the Great Ones. H.P. Lovecraft also creates the sense of suspense by making the main character s inner dialogue contain the main characters emotions and thoughts of suspect. Another example of the use of psychological horror is when Henry Anthony Wilcox dreams of the Great Ones, and experiences a period of mental breakdown that physicians could not identify. Once Henry Anthony Wilcox came out of the episode he remembered nothing, creating a shock factor, and making the reader ask how did that happen? In Gramma, Stephen King, similar to H.P. Lovecraft, travels a psychological horror path. Stephen King accomplishes the psychological horror aspect by the buildup of suspense, until everything comes to fruition in the last few pages of the story. Within the middle of the story George goes in to check in on Gramma only to find out, Gramma is dead. Gramma has no pulse and is not breathing, George even goes as far as putting a mirror in front of Grammas nose to make sure she wasn t breathing. • 35. Parenting Styles In Psychology Psychology is the science of the mind and behavior of living beings. This area of study originally began in December 1879 by a German college professor named Wilhelm Wundt, but it is still a widely researched topic today. Over the past few centuries, psychologists have dedicated their lives to researching how the mindand actions of others correlate. Through their research, they have discovered concepts such as sensation and perception, learning, memory, thinking, motivation and emotions, health, and personalities. These discoveries have contributed greatly to society to help explain why some people behave differently than others. Scientists have also learned that people are not born knowing everything, but rather they develop over their lifespan. Factors such as parenting styles, psychological disorders, genetics, environments, and personality components are present in the development of people, including myself. These elements affect the outcome of someone s mental and physical decisions. Parenting styles are one of the most impactful factors of a person s development in life. Individuals with an insecure anxious attachment are more self focused and always looking for approval and support from their partner regardless of low and high stress situations. Anxious attachment individuals are also over caring and hyper vigilant. Lastly, individuals with an avoidant attachment value independence and have low levels of self disclosure. Avoidant individuals are less likely to use touch to express affection and are uncomfortable with intimate sexual contact. In short, being aware of your attachment style and your partners can shed light on marital conflict and possible solutions and corrective behaviors to better marital ... • 41. Legalizing Marijuana In Hawaii Research Paper Marijuana laws in Hawaii are somewhat different than other states. For example, the possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana is a petty misdemeanor and can be punishable by up to 30 days in prison; or a fine of $1,000. The laws, as well as the punishments vary depending on your situation. However, if marijuana was legalized some benefits would include the help for medical illnesses, bringing up the state s economy and relative safeness compared to alcohol. It s proven that the use of marijuana can help people with certain illnesses and help them recover. In an article; it stated that using marijuana for a medical effect can help you with your sleeping disorders, aches, eating conditions and pains. It can also help relax muscle tension, chronic pain and seizure disorders. Marijuana has been successful at... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The U.S Centers For Disease Control and Prevention said that there s a big amount of people who have died from the use of alcohol but not from marijuana. (37,000 annual deaths in the U.S). Alcohol also damages the brain and causes serious problems. It is also proven that alcohol can give you a variety of cancers (stomach, lungs and liver) but on the other hand, marijuana helps to deal with it. Just like marijuana has its good things, it can also have its bad ones. For example, the effects of using marijuana as a medical treatment can interfere with balance attention and judgement. It may also increase in heart rate and decrease in blood pressure. For the people that smoke it, there s a risk of damaging their immune system. As the constant debate of legalization continues, the endless argument returns to ethics. Marijuana can offer numerous health and economic benefits to our community but is turned away as it is seen in a negative light. Marijuana should be legalized statewide in order to improve our state funds as well as provide benefits to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Importance Of Christianity In The Byzantine Church Of... The Byzantine church of Saint George located in Madaba, Jordan, is rather modest but contains a treasure of early Christianity: a large mosaic map etched on the floor of the church. The map dates back to sixth century and depicts the places of spiritual importance in the Christian faith. It is no surprise that the city of Jerusalemis portrayed as the center of the map, representing the significance of Jerusalem to Christianity. It was in this city that the crucifixion of Jesus mobilized the creation of the second Abrahamic religion itself. The map illustrates many of the Christian holy buildings in Jerusalem, including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, a church built on the Western Hill during the Byzantine period. Space and religion share an intimate connection. Early Judaismfocused on the temple as the site where contact with the divine could be made. However, following the Babylonian exile, the Israelites were forced to adapt and develop ways to worship away from the temple. They began performing daily rituals of worship such as the Sabbath and adhering to a special diet. They eventually came to believe that the presence of their God was not solely bound to the confines of the Temple in Jerusalem, but rather that his presence was mobile as it had originally been. Thus, over time the temple was less and less imperative to the religion. By the time Christianity was founded, the temple remained an important symbol and place of worship, as well as a symbol of the presence and strength of its religion in Jerusalem. In his essay Space, historian and scholar Thomas Tweed argues that religious space is kinetic and interrelated, and thus has relations to the political, social, and economic spheres and is also connected to both the past, the present, and the future. The ideological religious, topographical, and politico economic transformations associated with the Church of the Holy Sepulchre embody the interrelated and kinetic nature of the space through their demonstration of the shift from Eastern Hill to Western Hill, the shift from spiritual faith to an earth centered faith, and the change in Byzantine imperial policy from Hadrian s Aelia Capitolina to Constantine s Christian city. • 43. Music And Perceptions And Emotional Responses In the last decade, there has been much debate over the value of musical training in schools. Although some people claim that music education in schools is a waste of time and resources, research has found that musical training can improve various cognitive processes and skills, such as the development of language, reasoning, pattern recognition, and memory. These skills can translate into other school subjects as well. This paper explores the relationship between music and perceptions and emotional responses, and also examines the cognitive benefits of musical training. In order to understand the relationship between music and cognitive processes, it is important to understand how music is perceived and processed in the brain. Musical perception and cognition are both actively constructed by the listener, as opposed to being passively transferred from the performer to the listener (Iyer, 159). There are three levels of musical perception: the raw psychophysical perception of tones, the perception of abstract qualities of tones apart from their source, and the apprehension of environmental objects that give rise to the sound events (Handel, 181). According to Stephen Handel, the first level of perception is when the listener first hears and perceives a musical stimulus such as melody, harmony, tonality, rhythm, meter, and form. The second level of musical perception is when the listener perceives abstract qualities of the musical stimuli. The final level of musical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Short Note On Numerical Analysis Of Various Turbulence... 2 D Numerical Analysis of Various Turbulence Models in CFD for External Flow over a Cylinder Tharikaa Ramesh kumar Graduate Student, Aerospace Engineering, Auburn University, Auburn, AL, USA The effects of turbulence on a flow can be predicted by Turbulence modeling in Computational Fluid Dynamics. Numerous turbulence models have been developed over the time and are used for envisioning the characteristics of the flow in different flow regimes in terms of time averaged quantities for both internal and external flows. Still, one of the challenges in CFD is to simulate the significant flow physics. Numerical analysis will be carried out to investigate the capabilities of the various turbulence models in CFD. External flow over a cylinder ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over the past decades, the laminar and turbulent unsteady viscous flow behind a circular cylinder has been the subject of numerous experimental and numerical studies. Flow past a bluff body like the circular cylinder usually experiences very strong flow oscillations and boundary layer separation in the wake region behind the body. In certain Reynolds number range, a periodic flow motion will develop in the wake as a result of boundary layer vortices being shed alternatively from either side of the cylinder. For assessing the ability of computational flow solving software to reproduce real flow conditions flow around a cylinder is an excellent case because of simplicity of the geometry and the complex nature of flow around the body. The flow regimes can be divided based on the Re and the behavior of the flow around the cylinder in these regimes as Steady axisymmetric regime (20 Re 210), Steady planar symmetric regime (210 Re 270), Unsteady planar symmetric regime (270 Re 400), Unsteady asymmetric regime (400 Re 1000), Turbulent wake regime (Re 1000). This paper discusses the struggles and inequalities that Mexican Americans have faced in education. I will focus on different educational time periods and discuss the problems and struggles that occurred in those time periods. The time periods that I give focus to include educationin the Spanish Mexican era (1519 1848), education and early Anglo rule in the Southwest (1836 1890), the expansion of American education (1890 1960), and education in the contemporary period (1960 present). Education in the Spanish Mexican era lasted from 1519 until 1848. During this period, education occurred in informal and formal settings and was aimed towards the Indian population, who were Spanish subjects. Education in informal settings was the general norm and the most important informal settings were missions, presidios, and civilian settlements. The purpose of educating the Indians was to substitute their identity with a Spanish one and to also teach them the acceptance of their social relegation. The way the Spanish did this was by teaching the Indians literacy, music, the Catholic faith, Spanish manners, and by repressing their indigenous religious and social beliefs (Kloosterman 2). Education and the early Anglo rule in the Southwest lasted from 1836 until 1890. From 1836 to about 1850, formal education took place in schools that were founded by the Catholic Church. ... Burqini is a multi piece head to toe bathing suit designed especially for women who follow Islam and practice sartorial hijab and cover their entire body except face hands and feet. The media created this portmanteau of burqa and bikini and referred to these full body multi piece swimsuits to modestly dress Muslim women as burqinis. Burqini has received a lot of attention from media from all over the world; both positive and negative, making it a sensational piece of garment in 21st century. The most public attention gained by this garment was in 2009 when it was banned in Emerainville , a suburb of Paris in France and later in Italy making because it was unhygienic and inappropriate clothing for a public baths.
