Sciencebuddies Preventing Distracted Driver
In the introduction of Sciencebuddies, the author wrote, The purpose of these laws is to prevent
traffic accidents due to driver inattention.
Based on what the author stated in the introduction of Distracted Driver, Driving a motor vehicle
is serious business and you need to be well rested and attentive in order to be a safe driver.
Distracted when your trying to focus on something, but your focused on something else.
Risk when your putting your self, a friend, a family member, or even a stranger in danger.
Focus when one of your 5 senses is on something else.
If there are more distractions, then game time will decrease, because of the distractions.
Independent Variable: the distractions.
Dependent Variable: the scores or time.
Controlled Variables: the same person that plays the game, the same course and level, also the same
remote.
He or she will set up the chosen driving game for single player. You will then find a driving course
that will occur through out the whole experiment. Also, agree on the difficulty level for each course.

The independent variables that were used in the experiment was the distractions, which changed 3
times. The average of the first controlled variable was 2.43 minutes. Observations that were made
were the driver was not distracted. The average of the second independent variable was 2.96
minutes. Observations that were made were the driver had a hard time steering. The average of the
third independent variable was 2.88 minutes. Observations that were made were the driver kept
looking at the screen, but she was trying to talk at the same time. This demonstrates that the one

Cultural Differences Between France And April Fools
Hooray! Went the family in a joyful sound for Christmas was near. Everyone loves holidays in
some way, spending time with family and receiving gifts show two ways of the greatness in
holidays. The French holidays connect to many of the United States holidays when referring to
April Fools Day, Mother s Day, ChristmasDay, and Bastille Day.
The French, just like America have the same holiday as we do, April Fools Day. The French
celebrate this holiday on April 1 yearly just like the American culture. Except in France they call
it le poisson d avril, meaning a paper fish. The point of the fish is expressed as a nationwide
tradition. It is when someone sticks a fish with tape to the back of another person without them

The country France celebrates their independence day on July 14th while ours is on July 4th.
This day reminds the French the end of the French Monarchy and the next start into the French
Revolution. Basically this day symbolizes the great day of many French people rebelling against
the royal powers in France. The word Bastille comes from the name of a prison located in Paris
that broke out to start the revolution. Every year, down the famous French Avenue, the largest
parade in all of the continent Europe takes place on this very date in remembrance of this
holiday. A very big connections between the French and the Americans is on our independence
day s we both like using many fireworks to light up the sky! The main firework display takes place
right over the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Bastille Day and our July 4th connect very well to one

A City In Winter And A Complicated Kindness Analysis
The Necessity of Sacrifice in the Lives of the Innocent
The innocence of youth is often romanticized as being has days filled with laughter and energy;
it is oblivious of the stress and responsibilities of this world. In such a picturesque world,
however, it becomes easy to forget the many limitations of youth:. nNo right to vote, to make
decisions, to own property or to even stay up past a specified bedtime. The idyllic life of a child is
easily disagreeable to those youth who want know what they want; to those youth with great
aspirations. Many children both real and in fictional literature experience great struggles while
trying to achieve goals by their own accord. Western North American authors Mark Helprin and
Miriam Toews effectively portrayed this plight of a willful child in their novels A City in Winter
and A Complicated Kindnessrespectively. Mark Helprin s A City in Winter is the tale of an
extraordinary young girl reclaiming her kingdom. Yet even with her wit, charm and innocence,
her progression is ultimately unsuccessful until her surrogate father swoops in quite literally to
save the day knowing it is at the expense of his life. Likewise, Miriam Toews A Complicated
Kindness is about a young girl who knows exactly what she wants, but lacks the moral strength and
maturity to obtain it. Her father, who is both morally strong and mature, must eventually sacrifice
his comfortable way of life for his daughter. In both novels the girls lack power due to

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Parkinson s Disease Essay
Parkinson Disease

Fall 2016
Parkinson s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor symptoms or tremors,
rigidity, (bradykinesia) or slowness of movement and posture instability. Parkinson s involves the
malfunction and death of vital nerve cells in the brain. This disease primarily affects neurons in
area of the brain called substantia nigra. Some of these dying neurons produce dopamine a chemical
that sends messages to the part of the brain that controls movement and coordination. The
symptoms of Parkinson s disease usually begin on one side of the body and within time spread
to both sides of the body. The primary process that causes Parkinson s disease signs and
symptoms is when dopamine producing nerve cells in the brain die prematurely. Dopamine is one
of the main neurotransmitters in the brain. In a healthy brain, ample dopamine is produced so that
the brain cells can coordinate smooth and precise muscle movements. However, when dopamine
cells are lost, brain cells communicate abnormally with muscles, which can lead to impaired body
movement. (Null, 2013, pp. 153 176) When Parkinson s disease progresses there is a gradual loss
of many functions that depend on muscle control such as the ability to write legibly, or speak

What Is The Theme Of The Third Wish
The Third Wish is a fantasy short story written by Joan Aiken which talks about an unsuccessful
marriage. While, The Monkey s Paw , a mystery short story written by W. W. Jacobs, warns the
character the consequences of wishing, that led to losing a loved one. Both incorporate common
features like the use of three wishes as the motif, and the sense of atmosphere created with
foreshadowing and metaphors. The next few paragraphs will be talking about the characterization
that shapes the main plot, the meaning behind the symbolic items and the inspirational theme that
created the mood.
The main theme from the two stories are different. The Monkey s Paw , deals with the disruption

fate and belief of the British as a sign of revenge of the British s rule over India in the Victorian

the paws it belongs to. In addition, The Third Wish , a withered leaf and a white feather were the
last objects Mr. Peters held onto in his death. The feather epitomizes his faith of love to Leita,

A Qualitative Study Of Experiences Of Women Using Modern...
The topic that I have chosen is A Qualitative Study of Experiences of Women Using Modern
Contraception in Wakiso Distract, Uganda. This study focuses on thirty women who have
undergone horrible situations when it came to contraception. This case study was conducted from
August and September of 2013. Between these months many women have reported negative
feedbackfor the use of contraception. This is a major problem, which can affect the way that they
use contraception in the future.
The area that is being studied in this article is Wakiso Distract, Uganda. In this area new
contraception is being used. The researchers are taking 30 women from this area and are testing
them on what they think about contraception. Family planning is a high unmet need for families
here in Uganda. The high fertility rates in this area are due to unplanned pregnancies from results of
not using contraception s. In this study, the researchers used thirty women from Wakiso Distract,
Uganda. These women have used some form of contraception for at least one year. To get the
information that they needed, they conducted in depth interviews with the thirty women from
Uganda. To do this interview all consent was obtained by each woman that was being interviewed
or tested. The case study is the use of contraception in Uganda. The information that is provided is
anywhere from negative and positive experience while using contraception. The interviews were

Post Civil War Foreign Policy Analysis
One of the U.S government s main functions is to conduct relations with almost 200 nations in the
world. It is designed to further certain goals and assure Americas security and defense. Our foreign
policy has changed over time reflecting the change in nation interest. (Constitutional Rights
Foundation) The U.S main interest was to maintain its independence from European countries. This
was carried out by the Monroe Doctrine, which limited European attempts to further colonize the
Western Hemisphere. Post civil war foreign policy was a departure from pre foreign policy
because of their actions and motivations. The acquisition of contiguous territory in pre civil war

They feel it is their duty to educate the deprived races, and as they travel to new nations
Americans carry with them their Christian beliefs. Josiah Strong was a big believer of divinely
commissioned , that God wants Americans to spread the word of God. Although the second
Manifest Destiny shares all of these aspects with the first seeming like a broken continuation, the
second Manifest Destiny is also very much a departure from the original beliefs. Expansion
became a huge competition between the nations. The United States was expanding to foreign
lands, but not simply to achieve a goal, now the US wanted to compete with Europe and take
natural resources from conquered territories. America needed more resources because it was
going through a period of overproduction, as evidenced by the depression of 1893. This way the
United States wouldn t merely gain more natural resources, but also new markets, new capitol, and
new labor. As Americans set out to lay claim to these new territories, they left with the Social
Darwinism belief that stronger ones will naturally dominate weaker nations. Joshia Strong the
author of Our Country: Its Possible Future and Its Present Crisis said, the unoccupied arable lands
of the earth are limited, and will soon be taken also, that the Anglo Saxon white race highest race
should rule, and govern the weaker races.

The Aspects Of Social Conformity In The 1950s
Conformity in the 1950s America in the 1950s had many social norms that everyone was
expected to follow. If one did not follow those rules they were seen as crazy and often identified
as insane. These social norms were important to follow if one wanted to lead a happy and
successful life. To be successful and happy meant one had to be married, have children, a job
that could pay the bills, and a house. However, what happens after one has everything and is
successful according to society? In Revolutionary Road, Frank and April suffer because they
follow society s expectations on what a happy life should be but even after doing so, they are
not truly happy. Men were expected to be the breadwinners while women were expected to take
their place at home as housewives. The Wheelers kept true to that so that they could be happy
and successful. Frank has an office job in New York while April is a housewife; They have two
children and a home in Connecticut. Frank and April are aware of the standards that one needs to
follow to be happy but somehow after they have had to follow those norms they are not. They
both begin to feel trapped and feel like this is what the rest of their lives would be like. They
began to think of ways to escape their lives and thoughtof ways to bring back excitement or meaning
into their lives.
The life of a man in the 1950s consisted of work and travel to work and home. In the film, Wheeler
s neighbors show us the damage that men had to face when having to work all day. It hinders the
relationship that men had with their wife and children. Frank and April s neighbor, Shep, shows
us this when he tries to talk with his children. He asks them what they are doing and his kids
completely ignore him. He s not there for most of the day and he does not have the time to bond
with his family. Not only is their relationship with their kids damaged but their relationships with
their wives. Frank notices that his life no longer has the adrenaline that it once used to. Frank
says to April, I was full of blood, scared, but full of life . In this scene, Frank explains to April
what he felt while he was out at war. He felt the thrill and adrenaline of something real. He looks
for things that would

The Benefits Of Video Games On Children
Video game and the benefit it has on children Since the turn of the Millennium, Video game
began to solidify itself as a leading source of entertainment and as a result it also became widely
criticized and many parents began to restricted children from having any access to video games.
Parents shouldn t restrict Children s access to Video games since those who have played video
games has been shown to many positive impacts on their lives. Studies have shown that children
who play video games have a better mental capability than Children who don t play video games.
Plus, different genres of video games are shown to have different effects on children such as
improvements in spatial skills and some can even reduce obesity. Video games have also been
shown to improve a children s education such as having higher test scores and improvement in
vocabulary. Any effects video game causes can be reversed if needed yet any skills that a child
gain would be beneficial in the digital age they are growing up in. Even as more and more kids
are playing more video games there are always going to be those few kids who don t play video
games, mainly because parents will either listen or read critics about video games, such as brain
damage or eyesight damage, and will refuse to allow their children to play them. But studies are
showing that when compared to children who don t play video games children who do play video
games are shown to have a better mental capability. Research such as the

Main Features Of Perfect Competition
Perfect competition is a type of market structre where there is highest level of competition. In
perfect competition the firms are offering homogeneous product. Every firm believe that it can
sell any amount of output it wishes at the prevailing market price. Because of homogenous
product and large number of firms, no individual firm is in a position to effect the price of the
product and therefore the demand curve for the firm under perfect competition is a horizontal
straight line. 2.2 Meaning of Perfect Competition In Perfect competition there are a large number
of buyers and sellers. Each seller is producing a very small level of industry s output, no individual
buyer or seller can influence the price of the product. The products produced under perfect
competition are homogenous, and each firm believes that it can sell any amount of output at the
prevailing price. The economic agents have perfect knowledge about the market conditions.... Show

Large Numbers of Sellers and Buyers: The industry or market includes a large number of firms
(and buyers) so that each individual firm, however large supplies only a small part of the total
quantity offered in the market. The buyers are also numerous so that no monopolistic power can
affect the working of the market. Under these conditions each firm alone cannot affect the price in
the market by changing its output. 2. Product Homogeneity: All the firms produces homogenous
product. A buyer cannot differentiate among the products produced by different firms, and hence
pay a uniform price for the goods produced by different firms. The assumptions of large number of
sellers and of product homogeneity imply that the individual firm in immaculate rivalry is a price
taker, and therefore the demand curve is considerably elastic, representing that the firm can offer
any quantity of yield at the prevailing market price (Figure

2.5 CLASSIFICATION OF PASSIVE FILTER
2.4 DISADVANTAGES OF PASSIVE FILTER
2.6 CONCLUSION
2.1 INTRODUCTION
The increase of electronic equipments has caused the increase in the nonlinear loads and due to
these loads power quality is being deteriorated. The supply voltage is distorted due to harmonic
currents drawn from the supply by nonlinear loads. Distorted currents and voltage cause the user s
equipment to not work properly, conductors will overheat and may decrease the efficiency and life
of the equipment. Usually a passive LC power filter is employed to wipe out the current harmonics

The parallel LC circuits create the very high impedance to the unwanted signal and a series circuit
forms very low impedance passage to ground at same frequency.
2.4 DISADVANTAGES OF PASSIVE FILTER
Following are the disadvantages of the passive filters:
Filter impedance should be smaller than the source impedance for mitigating the source current
harmonics and hence compensation characteristics depend on system impedance.
Overload condition can arise in the passive filter because of harmonics circulation arising from
nonlinear loads which are connected at the connection point of passive filters.
They are not recommended for the variable loads because their design is for some specific reactive
power and changing the load can detune the filter.
Resonances either in series or in parallel may appear in the system. [7]
Passive filters do not use active elements and hence signal gain is not provided by them.
Tuning of passive filters requires a lot of time and they are expensive when produced in large
quantities.
Passive filters higher than the 2nd order are complex and very difficult to design them.

Healthy Predator-Prey Relationships
Organisms within a predator prey relationship are intertwined in a co evolutionary battle for
survival. Each depends on food, shelter, the environment, and the random chance of evolution in
order to maintain balance in the relationship. If chance favors one side too heavily, it throws the
species into disequilibrium and can lead to the demise of one or more species. Because of the
potential severity of the consequences, it is important to investigate the contributing factors that
help maintain a healthy predator prey dynamic. In order to reach solid conclusions, a well rounded
research approach is required, lest one side of this is disproportionally represented. First, the
survival mechanisms of prey will be explored through the example of... Show more content on

Preys have a more difficult role in the predator and prey dynamics as they have to expend energy
in foraging for themselves as well as high predation risks. This also adds to the disequilibrium in
the predator and prey relationship as prey s need more expenditure of energy for both foraging
and escaping. In a research study done by Luttbeg et al. (1999) looked at behavioral response to
predation risk in a predator and prey dynamic model. When the spiders are not around the
grasshoppers eat more and grow more. (Luttbeg et al., 1999 However, when predation risk was
present this tended to cause reduced feeding activity in order to increase vigilance and predator
awareness thus imposing a great life history cause (Luttbeg et al., 1999).). Therefore, predator
prey dynamics is highly affected and requires equilibrium in the way the prey chooses to balance
its trade offs of foraging and predatory risk. In order to maintain the equilibrium of the predator
prey dynamic the prey must find way to maximize food intake and minimize predator

Comparison of jump height between males and females
Figure 1: Comparison of avg jump (in CM) between males (n=11) and females (n=10) with a p
value of 0.00203. This p value indicates a significant difference between the avg. jump heights of
males and females. The bars are the avg. jump heights along with standard deviation of the mean.
Results: The p value of 0.00203 is p lt;0.05 thus we reject the null hypothesis and conclude that
there is a significant difference between the two means. A big part that contributes to this result
(significant differences) is that males on average tend to have more muscle mass than females ...

Maybe calves do play a roll but one that causes a relationship between the two. Other factors could
have affected the overall results could be that the jumping was not standardized, lack of a bigger
sample size, and the fact that when measuring the jump height it had to be predicted where the
person s hand reached, thus leading to huge assumptions on the measuring part.
Comparison of calf circumference and jump height in females
Figure 3: Comparison of avg. calf circumference and jump height (both in CM) in females (n=10).
A R2 value of 0.0426 (0.042592 in EXCEL) indicates a weak relationship between calf
circumference and jump height.
Results: Obtaining a R2 value of 0.042592 means there is no relationship between calf
circumference and jump height. One cannot determine the jump height by having the calf
circumference. Similarly with the calf circumference and jump height in males, physiologically, it
would make more sense for the hamstrings and quads to play a bigger role in jumping height as
they are bigger muscles and generate most of the force to jump. Even if calf circumference did have
a role it might be insignificant. Additionally, there could have been other factors that contribute to
the end results: everyone not jumping with the same intent (max effort versus minimal effort),
possible injuries, or soreness. Another source that could have contributed to end results for being
what they are is the lack of a big sample size. Additionally, measuring the

Social Status In The Great Gatsby
The American Dream varies for everyone, however, hard work, determination, and the desire to
achieve that dream are key factors that have played a role in the American Dream since it was
first thought of. Jay Gatsby in Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, is a prime example of achieving
that American Dream because Gatsby worked hard and was driven as he moved up the hierarchy
from transitioning from poor to rich. However, there are many who assume that the American
Dream is a myth purely due to their belief that no one can ever truly be successful in obtaining the
American Dream. While it can be difficult in accomplishing such a task, with factors such as
gender, immigration, and social class participating, it isn t impossible for people to succeed... Show

In the case of Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, there are some people that will claim Gatsby never

primary goal due to him ending up dead after losing Daisy to her husband since both Tom and
Daisy [smash] up things and creatures and then [retreat] back into their money or vast

unsaturated fats did not improve cardiovascular function, but did result in beneficial effects on
cardiovascular biomarkers. In this randomized, controlled, single bind study 195 men and
women at moderate risk for cardiovascular disease, were randomly assigned to a 16 week
isoenergetic diet that were either rich in SFAs, MUFAs, or polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs).
The primary cardiovascular measurement of function was flow mediated dilation, and
secondary measurements were blood pressure, arterial stiffness, and serum levels of various
biomarkers (lipids, glucose, insulin resistance). The results of this study showed that replacing

study. There was a significant decrease in recorded blood pressure of the MUFA and PUFA diet

as total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and the total cholesterol/HDL cholesterol ratio improved
significantly in the MUFAs and PUFAs diet replacement compared to that of the SFA diet

Her Divine Call on July 31, 1991
It all began on, July 31, 1991, when Linda Smith received the call that would change her life
indefinitely. At 1:01 am she was divinely called out by name and presented with a prophetic
revelation. God revealed Four D Success Academy: an acronym with profound meaning: the Desire
to achieve, the Determination to follow through, the Drive needed to maintain consistent efforts
toward success, and the ability to Deliver by reaching one s goals. At the time she could not grasp
the magnitude of what Godhad bestowed upon her life. Linda Smith a founder of Four D Success
Academy? This was an unfathomable thought at the time, because she had no background in the
educational realm. However, carrying the conviction of Gods divine call, prompted her to take
action. I knew God was only going to call me once, I couldn t afford not to respond , she
affirmed. That same year she resigned after serving 35 years as a registered nurse, and took a
leap of faith into Four D s future. Initially, her husband and children were perplexed by what
seemed to be a hasty decision. However, Linda gained their support through her own confidence in
God s plan.
It has been 22 years since Linda received her divine call. Her story has not changed, but her life
has. Since that day, Four D has blossomed into the first African American owned, accredited
healthcare college, in the United States. She has been recognized in Essence Magazine, Minority

It is evidently by the graph that the amount of sassy comments significantly decreased over the
three week programme. The programme had an average of 10.7 sassy remarks per day compared
to the baseline data of 15.5, this shows an average decrease of 4.8 sassy comments. Consequently,
the programme data greatly fluctuates over the three weeks with the maximum number of sassy
comment made during the three week period was fifteen and the minimum was six.
Unmistakeably, there are several trends, both of which are also seen in the baseline data. Firstly,

a negative trend. Although, the 0.1513 is a relatively weak decrease compared to a reasonably

As seen on the graph, the blue line (baseline data) is largely above the yellow line (programme

out the antecedents that influence my behaviour; therefore understanding those factors is the
second best option. I have noted that my mood affects my amount of sassiness each day and that
midweek my mood significantly decreases and then increases in late week. Although, it impacts my
data greatly it is too difficult to change these controlling factors. A solution to the problem would
be to control the amount of people I see, thus, controlling my sassiness. Generally, I only express
sassy comments as a response to a cheeky or somewhat vacuous question/comment made by an
acquaintance. Henceforth, restricting the amount of people I see midweek when my sassiness

Human Rights in China Essay
Human Rights in China
One of the first things that come to mind about human rights in China would most likely be the
Tiananmen Square massacre, where in 1989 hundreds of student protestors lost their lives to the

The bloody body of a dead student removed from the street right after the Tiananmen Square

People s Republic of China seems a contradiction of its meaning. If indeed its name is the People s

Thereafter, several leaders of the movement were sentenced to long prison terms in late December,
and hundreds of others were sentenced to reeducation through labor. Late in the year, according to
some reports, the government started confining some Falun Gong adherents to psychiatric hospitals
(China Country Report on Human Rights Practices for 1999).
The government continued to commit widespread and well documented human rights abuses in
violation of internationally accepted terms. These abuses stemmed from the government s
extremely limited tolerance of public unrest. The Constitution and laws provide for fundamental
human rights however, these rights are often ignored in practice. Abuses included instances of extra
judicial killings, torture and mistreatment of prisoners, forced confessions, arbitrary arrest and

many cases, especially in sensitive political cases, the judicial system denied criminal defendants
basic legal safeguards and due process of the law, merely because authorities attached higher
priorities to maintaining public order and suppressing political opposition than to enforcing the
legal norms of the country (Amnesty International. China, violations of human rights). The

Lanchester System Case Study
In this paper, an interactive tool using the shiny package in R code was developed to better
understand the interactions between X and Y forces along with their appropriate kill rates. The
Lanchester system was developed by F.W. Lanchester and consists of differential equations
where surviving combat units are defined by variables. This papers will focus on the Square
Law and a series of questions will be answered throughout. The interactive tool created can be
seen in Appendix B of this report as well as the code which is still under development. As you will
note while using the tool, for some cases a forcewill go negative, but that is not correct when in
fact the variable should be at zero. This issue can be worked around and will be something that is
corrected in the near future.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the Y forces send at least 60 more personnel on the 20th unit of time then the battle will only go
for another 26 units and the Y force will cause X to retreat due to lack of force and rate. On the
other hand, if the X force sent another 10 soldiers then this battle would be over and the X force
would have won at 20 units of time. See Appendix A for graphs of X forces winning at 20 units
and Y force winning at 46 units with an additional 60 soldiers in Figures 9 and 10.
In summary, the Lanchester square law model is a simple but very informative model. It gives
the combat analyst a better understanding of forces against rates over time. I found it very
effective making a simple interactive tool to better understand how different rates and forces vary
outcomes over a specific amount of time. It was very impressive to see that the approximate and

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Research Paper
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is a hormonal disorder which effects around five million women of
reproductive age in the United States (activebeat.co). The ovaries and adrenal glands excrete
abnormally high levels of male hormones which prevents the regular release of an egg, causing
many fluid filled sacs, or cysts, to form on the ovaries. Several types of cysts can be found on the
ovaries of someone diagnosed with PCOS, the most common being those developed during the
menstrual cycle, functional cysts. Follicular cysts are a subcategory of functional cysts formed by
the overgrown follicle resulting from an unreleased egg. When a follicle ruptures following the
release of an egg, the follicle may reseal and cause fluid buildup, resulting in a corpus luteum cyst;
these cysts may enlarge considerably, causing pain, bleeding, or twisting of the ovary (PCOS
Awareness Association). Some cysts resolve themselves in one to three months while others grow

Roles Of Person Centred Counselling
Person centred counselling deals therapy in which client is the ultimate focus of attention of his or
her own therapy. Person centred therapy aims at creating a relationship with their clients through
which the clients are able develop their self awareness. Person Centred counsellors deal with the
present, i.e. the here and now. In person centred approach, the therapeutic relationship is of
immense importance and is based on mutuality and equality.
It is the client who knows what hurts, what directions to go, what problems are crucial, what
experiences have been deeply buried. (Rogers, 2004, p11).

being non directive can be summed up by a question identified by Rogers, Am I really with this

Mearns and Thorne (1998) investigates the foundations of the person centred and states that
focusing on past experiences is damaging for the present self concept. This will have a domino
effect as this self concept will not let individuals reach their full potential and therefore, they will
fail in becoming fully functioning persons. Furthermore, the need for positive self regard,
according to Rogers, developed in early childhood and directly influenced one s self worth.
One way of assisting the individual to move toward openness to experience is through a relationship
in which he is prized as a separate person, in which the experiencing going on within him is
empathically understood and valued, and in which he is given the freedom to experience his own
feelings and those of others without being threatened in doing so. (Rogers, The Valuing Process in

This stage is when more and more people make trips to the coastal location, the facilities are
built for the visitor is being used. The accumulation of tourism takes over the primary function
of the town. This causes ill feeling within the location and loss of original culture that the town
had. This can be seen in Weston super Mare with the building of the grand pier as local traders,
unhappy that visitors were not coming as far as the centre of the town, built a new pier closer to
the main streets. Also the tourist where now not drawn in to the town for the benefits of the sea

another mode for people to visit the beach and attractions.

How Map Reduce On A Distributed Environment Readily And...
Abstract:
This is a project to demonstrate how Map Reduce in a distributed environment readily and easily
allows us to take several measurements that describe the empirical data and to answer several
questions like, for example, stars that are like our sun, and how many Earth like planets have
been observed. This project has been done as part of the coursework for the course Distributed
Computing. After applying the Map Reduce and Hadoop techniques to the planetary database, and
to the star database, we realize that bringing a large dataset into a tidy and insightful
categorization is made easy using Map Reduce. It also shows the power, and elegance of map

Analysis of Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler
The unmistakable dominance of men during the nineteenth century is an influential factor in the
establishment of the central theme of Henrik Ibsen s play Hedda Gabler. Due to Hedda s lack of
independence, she develops a strong desire for control. The direct relationship between Hedda s
marriage with George and her sly, manipulative characteristics is manifested by Ibsen during the
work. Ibsen also exposes weakness in Mrs. Elvsted through her dependability on various male
characters for fulfillment in life. How do expectations of gender roles in the nineteenth century
affect plot scheme and develop a theme of male dominance in Henrik Ibsens Hedda Gabler? Deeper

Elvsted share for each other. The loss of the manuscript, after Hedda destroys it in a fit of raging
jealousy, signifies the death of Eilert and Mrs. Elvsted s child, as well as their relationship. The
catastrophe is too much for Eilert to handle, and Mrs. Elvsted fails to offer a voice of comfort.
Consequently, he takes his own life and destroys Mrs. Elvsted s hope for the future. Her
dependency on her first husband for financial support and then on her true love, Lövborg, for a
sensation of self worth reflects the view of women s helplessness during the nineteenth century. The
static character traits displayed through Mrs. Elvsted s constant reliance on male figures also
illustrate the lack of progress being made by women of the time. Ibsen s creation of female
inferiority through Mrs. Elvsted s failure of independence supports the preconceived notion of male
dominance. In addition, the shy personality traits given to Mrs. Elvsted effectively create a timid
female character with weaknesses regarding self esteem. The submissive statements from Mrs.
Elvsted s conversations with other characters exploit these weaknesses and allow other characters,
such as Hedda, to take advantage of them. Consequently, these opportunities for manipulation
dictate Hedda s actions and also the scheme of the plot. Commonly accepted terms representing
informality and casualty to a person are used more

The Horrors Of The War II
Until The EndEven in our darkest hour, never despair, the light will come sooner than expected.
It was December 23rd , 1943, and there they were, sitting in a ghost town that was once the fine
city of Rostock. The soldiers were waiting patiently in the bombed out, abandoned airplane
factory that still looked like a war zone. The area was littered with skeletons of World War II jets
and engines that once fueled Hitler s Wehrmacht and mighty blitzkriegs that helped him conquer
most of Europe in its hey day. Hitler s army went through Europe decimating buildings and
works of art that had great historical value. The Nazi soldiers gave no thought to what they were
doing, but only wishing to please the Furor. The bones of these mighty planes looked as
sorrowful as the men were now feeling. The putrid smell of dead bodies and spent casings hung
heavy in their nostrils. The entire company was chilled to the bone by the hard sleet and snow that
had been pelting them relentlessly for the past15 hours. They were in the northeastern corner of
Germany, nestled between the mighty Warnow River and the harsh Baltic Sea in a city that once
was bustling and thriving before the allies invaded through Demark and Sweden and the red
Russians barreled through Poland. The men were glad it was almost empty, lending a sense of
peaceful serenity that almost had a way of making them feel safe. It was so quiet; almost too quiet.

Tora Tora Tora is a Japanese movie that portrays their side of things in World War II. The title,
Tora Tora Tora, was the Japanese codeword used to show that complete surprise had been

Japanese were preparing for war by forming an alliance with Germany and Italy. The Japanese
Commander in Chief ordered the planning of a surprise attack on the U.S. anchored fleet at Pearl

messages indicated increased naval activity. This led to an increase in U.S. navy patrols. As months

friend, it also had action it. The actual bombing scene was interesting to watch. Yes, at times it
was gruesome, but it kept you interested. I feel that the romance helped make the movie as good
as it was. The romance took away from some of the gruesome parts of the movie and helped
lighten the mood. The only bad thing about Pearl Harbor, in my opinion, was that Evelyn and
Danny did Rafe wrong. If you love somebody you don t go after their best friend as soon as you
find out they are dead. Danny also disrespected bro code and went after his best friend s girl. But,
Pearl Harbor overall was just a better movie than Tora Tora

Effects Of High School Start Time Essay
Several high schools all around the United States start school before the recommended time of
8:30 or later and there is nothing being done to help prevent this. Although it seems that it is just
a time, waking up too early is very detrimental, not only to teenagers, but people of all ages.
According to Zuckerman from the National Center for Health Research, By 2000, many high
schools were starting at 7:30 or earlier . Waking up at this earliest of times can lead to increased
depression, drug use, obesity, conflict, and car accidents in the average teenager. Simply
increasing the start time of school by a single hour can reduce the rate of the effects stated above
by at least 70%. Also, according to Tlumacki and Vaznis from the Boston globe, The CDC has

Goldfish Metabolic Rate Lab Report
The null hypothesis for this experiment is that there is no statistically significant relationship
between the metabolic rate of goldfish and their exposure to light. The alternative hypothesis is that
goldfish exposed to ambient light will exhibit a higher metabolic rate compared to goldfish that are
exposed to dark light.
Results
Overall 86 goldfish (N=43) were used in the experiment. Altogether, 43 trails (2 fish per trial)
were conducted in order to track the metabolic rates of the fishes. Differences in metabolic rates
(with respect to light exposure) were calculated by measuring the changes of oxygen concentration
in the water chambers where the fishes were placed. The change in oxygen consumption averaged
445(mgO_2)/(hrв€™Kg) when the fishes were exposed to ambient light and 377(mgO_2)
/(hrв€™Kg) when the fish were exposed to dark light. Across the trails, the average oxygen

For the most part, goldfish exposed to ambient light experienced a higher change in oxygen
consumption than fishes that were exposed to dark light. However, because the p value for our
experiment, 0.211, fell below the recommended 0.05 threshold, we were unable to report a
statistically significant difference in the metabolic rates of goldfish exposed to different lighting
conditions (ambient vs. dark). Because it is likely that the differences in average oxygen
consumption between the two conditions (exposure to ambient light vs dark light) were a result of
chance, we were unable to reject the null hypothesis stating that there is no statistically significant
relationship between the metabolic rate of goldfish, and its exposure to light. With this being said,
previous studies have reported exposure to light to be an important factor governing the biological
cycle of fish (Choi et al. 2017; Bromage et al.

The Importance Of Temperature Control In The Human Body
Temperature control is the body s natural way of warming and cooling its self, allowing it to stay at
one particular temperature (37oC or 98oF) Receptors in the skin detect changes in the external
temperature. They pass this information to the processing centre in the brain Hypothalamus.
Hypothalamus is a processing centre in the brain that controls body temperature and is in charge of
sending out signals to other conductors. It does this by triggering curtain mechanism such as goose
bumps, sweet gland, shivering and automatic responses i.e taking off or putting on clothing when
hot and cold. These automatic mechanism helps the body maintain and control its preferred
temperature, this helps keep the organs, enzymes and cells working at a good speed keeping you
healthy and stable.
Temperature regulation is a vital function in our body that without it our body won t be able to
function and we will die. The temperature regulation of the human body has many ways of cooling
and heating. The hormones from the hypothalamus govern the physiologic functions such as thirst,
hunger, sleep, mood and temperature regulation and a lot more. If one function breaks down they
all will suffer causing massive health issues and even death. Thermoregulatory is a process that
allows your body to maintain its core internal temperature. All thermoregulation mechanisms are
designed to return your body to homeostasis (the state of equilibrium). When the external
temperature is to hot the body

manage or spend money. Whenever he gets even five dollars, or any money, he usually blows it
on alcohol. Until one day he sees his grandmother s regalia in a pawn shop window and goes on a
quest to win it back by getting nine hundred ninety nine dollars. He gets some money here and
there, but he always ended spending it on himself or others and could not save up the money.
Ultimately, he ends up getting the regalia through some hard work and kindness of the pawn shop
owner. In What you Pawn I Will Redeem, Sherman Alexie uses the character Jackson Jackson to...

The environment that they are in causes many of the Native Americans in this area to be
troubled and live poor lives. He moved to Seattle for college but failed out. After that he worked
blue collar jobs. It seems that all the Indians in the story he mentions are always working these
rough blue collar jobs. They go to the bars after long hard work days or they come in from other
areas on fishing boats with some money, but nothing after that (13). They wait for the boats to
come back , but never do and after that there is no other opportunity for them. It is either they
have jobs like that or none like Jackson. Jackson has been on both sides, but never has had the
chance to better himself, partly because of his alcoholism, but also because of where he has come

The Evolution Of Public Relations
Introduction:
Public relations has always be present throughout history however over the years, it had different
names. Public relations is also known as integrated communication, corporate communication and
strategic communication. Public relations is such a natural and vast field that it does not have a
precise founder, founding date or nationality (Newsom, 2013). It has been found that in order to
understand properly the PR theory, one should look at the evolution of public relations throughout
history. The reason being that in order to analyse why some campaigns are more successful than
others, it is elemental to analyse how PR was practiced at ancient times. (The Origins Of Public
Relations, 2011)
Definition of terms:
Corporate Communications:

Corporate communication is a management function that suggests a background for the effective
coordination of all internal and external communication with the general resolution of establishing
and sustaining constructive reputations with stakeholder groups upon which the organization is

Public Relations:
Public Relations is the art and social science of studying trends, forecasting their impacts, analysis
organisation leaders and applying planned sequencers of action which will assist both the
organisation s and the public attentiveness (Danny Moss, Dejan Vercic, Gary Warnaby, 2002).
Origins and Evolution of Public Relations:
The Preliminary Period (1600 1799):
The preliminary period lasted between 1600 and 1799, although at this time the term PR was not
yet used, it was widely used in order to sell real estate however it was persuasion that was
primarily used (Newsom, 2013). One of the event that marked that particular period is the Boston

Common cause variation results from problems built into a system or process. This means the
problem will exist regardless of outside variables (i.e. workers, machinery, etc.) Special cause
variation is the result of a variable external to the system. These problems stem from a specific or
unique condition (i.e. workers, machinery, etc.). It is important to understand the difference
between the two because they require distinctly different methods of correction. Addressing the
problem correctly can improve quality and reliability of output. However, misinterpreting a
common cause variation as a special cause variation is a common and costly mistake. Managers
begin to analyze and adjust the system assuming that the variation stems from a condition unique to
their project when in reality it is an overarching organizational flaw. As a result, variation in quality
and reliability may actual increase when managers attempt to compensate for what they mistakenly
believe to be special cause variation. 4. What are the three reasons Goldratt argues are used to
justify adding excessive amount of safety to our project duration estimates? In your project
experiences, are these arguments justified? One way project teams add safety to duration estimates
is to overestimate the time to complete individual activities. Team members may pad the activity
time to ensure that they will be able to meet the promised deadline. This padding is augmented by

Essay about Domestic vs International Adoption
In today s society, the idea of adoption is an open and welcome one. However, the biggest
decision in adoption today is whether to adopt domestically or internationally. There is a very
large growing trend in international adoptions today. Compared to adoption rates in 1987, in 2004
international adoptions had risen over 200% as compared to an 8% rise in domestic adoptions.
After World War II, international adoptions began to rise because Americans began adopting
European and Japanese war orphans. However, this was not the only reason for international
adoptions. Desperate poverty and social upheaval such as the one child law in China, are factors
that have led others to adopt from Latin America and China. Also, after the Child... Show more

Next, a couple must realize that in both international and domestic adoptions, there is a risk of the
adoption not working out. In a domestic adoption, birth mothers can change their mind until they
sign the legal paperwork. Each state varies on their time frames a birth mother can sign her
paperwork, however most states allow the birth mother to sign 48 72 hours after the baby is
born. From that point on, in most states, the birth mother cannot change her mind. In
international adoptions countries can and do shut down all adoptions in their country. This
means any adoptions in the process are stopped. You could be interested in adopting a certain
child and it is not uncommon for the orphanage to promise this child to several agencies. The
orphanage s goal is to place the children as soon as possible. On the plus side though,
international adoptions are more lenient on who they let adopt. This can be a positive for many
couples wanting to adopt that are not allowed to adopt domestically. Specifically, homosexual
couples are welcomed in international adoptions, yet in some states are not legally allowed to
adopt. Also, there are age restrictions for parents over the age of forty that do not apply for
international adoption. One of the biggest factors couples consider, especially concerning
international adoptions is the idea of travel. In a domestic adoption only

English Colonies Dbq
The original colonies in Northern America faced rapid development in the early seventeenth
century, as the original colonists saw great potential in the region, and they gave hope to individuals
throughout Europe for better lives. The original English colonists of 1607 1630 brought numerous
values to Northern America that shaped the colonial lifestyle, and have continued to influence U.S.
history. The colonies were rooted in religious ideals, labor opportunities, and the hope for economic
gain. These original colonial values vary in the extent to which they shaped, and continue to shape,
American history, but have all influenced the American character to some degree. The earliest
English settlements in Northern America consisted of Jamestown, Plymouth, and the
Massachusetts Bay Colony. The Pilgrims were Separatists that journeyed across the Atlantic
Ocean aboard the Mayflower in 1620 in order to break away from the corrupt Church of England.
They established the colony of Plymouth where they were able to practice their religion freely.
Similarly, another Christian group called the Puritans, left England in 1630, also seeking refuge to
practice their beliefs freely. John Winthrop created the notion of the City Upon a Hill for the
Massachusetts Bay colony that exemplified the pure lifestyle and governance that would influence
other societies (Doc D). The United Stateshas a long history of religious splintering and various
religious movements over 900 denominations of

Coleman Social Capital
Social Capital: The Effects on Society Social Capital is defined as the networks of relationships
among people, enabling that society to function effectively. James Coleman s Social Capital in
the Creation of Human Capital examines the many benefits of social capital in a society.
However, most forms of social capital are public goods and do not primarily profit the person
who has to bring it about. Therefore, it s not in his interest to bring it leading to a shortage.
Coleman wants to apply economics s principle of rational action to the social perspective to
increase people s willingness to socialize. On the other hand, Alejandro Portes s The Two
Meanings of Social Capital challenges Coleman s concept by arguing that people shouldn t... Show

In a family, it is the relations between children and parents as well as siblings. A child s success
depends on both the physical presence of adults and attention given to the child by adults. The
High School and Beyond sample shows that students who have two parents, one sibling, and a
mother who expects college education have the lowest percentage of dropping out of school at
8.1%. On the other hand, students who have one parent, four siblings, and no college
expectation have a whopping 30.6% of dropping out. This is caused by the absence of the single
parent as he or she is most likely working. In addition, having more siblings means that the parent
s attention is split and each child receive less consideration. Therefore, it comes as no surprise
that the second category has a higher dropout rate because they have less social capital. Alejandro
Portes discuss the controversy surrounding the actual meaning and effects of social capital.
Confusion arises due its applications to manifold topics as well as its uses on different group of
people. He provided the concept by Pierre Bourdieu and James Coleman which centered on the
benefits of social capital on an individual or a small group. He argued that Coleman focused on the
advantages yielded to individual and then expand them to the whole community with subtlety. This
transition is not well defined and thus put social capital at risk of becoming synonymous with all
positive things in

Physicalism Vs Knowledge Argument
The first half of this course has focused on many different philosophical theories that deal with the
mind body problem. One of the most interesting of these theories is physicalism, which is the belief
that everything in this world is physical or that all facts are physical facts. There are many
arguments against physicalism, but one of the most well known and most successful arguments is
the knowledgeargument. The knowledge argument illustrates that physicalism is false. The
knowledge argument was created by Frank Jackson and he explained this argument in his paper,
What Mary Didn t Know. This paper introduces the reader to a thought experiment that focuses on
Mary, a scientist, who is locked inside of a black and white... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Jackson specifically disagrees with premise one as the point of the knowledge argument is that
Mary does not know everything there is to know about brain states and their properties as she
does not know about the experience associated with them. Jackson correctly condenses the
knowledge argument in his response by stating that Mary, before her release, knows everything
physical about other people. Mary, before her release, does not know everything about other
people because she learns something new about them after she is released. Therefore, there are
truths about others, and herself, that the physicalist story leaves out. Churchland s first argument
focuses on the idea that the two types of knowledge are different and the first one can be
considered knowledge by description and the second kind of knowledge as knowledge by
acquaintance. Some people, such as David Lewis and Laurence Nemirow, expand on Churchland s
argument, which leads to a second, stronger opposition to the knowledge argument that considers
the mode of presentation. Lewis and Nemirow criticize premise two and state that on Mary s
release, she does not learn something new or acquire knowledge in the relevant sense. When she is
released, Mary acquires a certain representational or imaginative ability, meaning Mary acquires
abilities, or knowledge how, as opposed to learning truths, or

The White Horse Analysis
A seemingly great tavern recently opened in Newport, Rhode Island. Located at the corner of
Farewell and Marlborough Streets, the tavern is equipped with two stories and strong brick
walls to withstand the long frigid winters Newport has to offer. Being the first tavern in the New
World it comes with high expectations. The tavern was founded by William Mayes, Sr. and was
soon named The White Horse with hopes for a great future. The White Horse was once a
residence of Francis Brinley. The massively framed building and quarter acre of land fenced with
Pailes seemed like the perfect destination to Mayes, so he built the tavern. The white horse is a
meeting place for all sorts of people from the normal friendly get together, to meetings

There are many unknown factors which cannot be found within the pages of the Gregson vs

the ship was located when the slaves were thrown overboard, and the names of the slaves whose
lives were lost during the incident. Philip clarifies this in her interview with Patricia Saunders
when she states, There is no marker. We don t have the bones. We don t have the Tombstones

  • 2. Sciencebuddies Preventing Distracted Driver In the introduction of Sciencebuddies, the author wrote, The purpose of these laws is to prevent traffic accidents due to driver inattention. Based on what the author stated in the introduction of Distracted Driver, Driving a motor vehicle is serious business and you need to be well rested and attentive in order to be a safe driver. Controlled Variables: the same person that plays the game, the same course and level, also the same remote. He or she will set up the chosen driving game for single player. You will then find a driving course that will occur through out the whole experiment. Also, agree on the difficulty level for each course. Allow person to play game and manage the course, so he/she doesn t need to ask questions during experiment. Everyone loves holidays in some way, spending time with family and receiving gifts show two ways of the greatness in holidays. The French holidays connect to many of the United States holidays when referring to April Fools Day, Mother s Day, ChristmasDay, and Bastille Day. The French, just like America have the same holiday as we do, April Fools Day. The French celebrate this holiday on April 1 yearly just like the American culture. Except in France they call it le poisson d avril, meaning a paper fish. The point of the fish is expressed as a nationwide tradition. It is when someone sticks a fish with tape to the back of another person without them finding out all day long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The country France celebrates their independence day on July 14th while ours is on July 4th. This day reminds the French the end of the French Monarchy and the next start into the French Revolution. Basically this day symbolizes the great day of many French people rebelling against the royal powers in France. The word Bastille comes from the name of a prison located in Paris that broke out to start the revolution. Every year, down the famous French Avenue, the largest parade in all of the continent Europe takes place on this very date in remembrance of this holiday. A very big connections between the French and the Americans is on our independence day s we both like using many fireworks to light up the sky! • 4. A City In Winter And A Complicated Kindness Analysis The Necessity of Sacrifice in the Lives of the Innocent The innocence of youth is often romanticized as being has days filled with laughter and energy; it is oblivious of the stress and responsibilities of this world. In such a picturesque world, however, it becomes easy to forget the many limitations of youth:. nNo right to vote, to make decisions, to own property or to even stay up past a specified bedtime. The idyllic life of a child is easily disagreeable to those youth who want know what they want; to those youth with great aspirations. Many children both real and in fictional literature experience great struggles while trying to achieve goals by their own accord. Western North American authors Mark Helprin and Miriam Toews effectively portrayed this plight of a willful child in their novels A City in Winter and A Complicated Kindnessrespectively. Mark Helprin s A City in Winter is the tale of an extraordinary young girl reclaiming her kingdom. Yet even with her wit, charm and innocence, her progression is ultimately unsuccessful until her surrogate father swoops in quite literally to save the day knowing it is at the expense of his life. Likewise, Miriam Toews A Complicated Kindness is about a young girl who knows exactly what she wants, but lacks the moral strength and maturity to obtain it. Her father, who is both morally strong and mature, must eventually sacrifice his comfortable way of life for his daughter. In both novels the girls lack power due to ... • 5. Symptoms And Symptoms Of Parkinson s Disease Essay Parkinson Disease by Melissa Green Topical Bibliography In partial fulfillment of the writing requirement for Anatomy and Physiology 304 and the Department of Speech Language Pathology SUNY Buffalo State Fall 2016 Parkinson s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor symptoms or tremors, rigidity, (bradykinesia) or slowness of movement and posture instability. Parkinson s involves the malfunction and death of vital nerve cells in the brain. This disease primarily affects neurons in area of the brain called substantia nigra. Some of these dying neurons produce dopamine a chemical that sends messages to the part of the brain that controls movement and coordination. The symptoms of Parkinson s disease usually begin on one side of the body and within time spread to both sides of the body. The primary process that causes Parkinson s disease signs and symptoms is when dopamine producing nerve cells in the brain die prematurely. Dopamine is one of the main neurotransmitters in the brain. In a healthy brain, ample dopamine is produced so that the brain cells can coordinate smooth and precise muscle movements. However, when dopamine cells are lost, brain cells communicate abnormally with muscles, which can lead to impaired body movement. (Null, 2013, pp. 153 176) When Parkinson s disease progresses there is a gradual loss of many functions that depend on muscle control such as the ability to write legibly, or speak ... Nevertheless, the evil power of the monkey s paw itself symbolize the unpleasant history of the paws it belongs to. In addition, The Third Wish , a withered leaf and a white feather were the last objects Mr. Peters held onto in his death. The white feather symbolizes his memory with Leita and because Mr. Peters was always thankful for what he could afford, the leaf of wishes became a memorable lesson of his life. It is designed to further certain goals and assure Americas security and defense. Our foreign policy has changed over time reflecting the change in nation interest. (Constitutional Rights Foundation) The U.S main interest was to maintain its independence from European countries. This was carried out by the Monroe Doctrine, which limited European attempts to further colonize the Western Hemisphere. Josiah Strong was a big believer of divinely commissioned , that God wants Americans to spread the word of God. Expansion became a huge competition between the nations. The United States was expanding to foreign lands, but not simply to achieve a goal, now the US wanted to compete with Europe and take natural resources from conquered territories. America needed more resources because it was going through a period of overproduction, as evidenced by the depression of 1893. This way the United States wouldn t merely gain more natural resources, but also new markets, new capitol, and new labor. As Americans set out to lay claim to these new territories, they left with the Social Darwinism belief that stronger ones will naturally dominate weaker nations. • 9. The Aspects Of Social Conformity In The 1950s Conformity in the 1950s America in the 1950s had many social norms that everyone was expected to follow. If one did not follow those rules they were seen as crazy and often identified as insane. These social norms were important to follow if one wanted to lead a happy and successful life. To be successful and happy meant one had to be married, have children, a job that could pay the bills, and a house. However, what happens after one has everything and is successful according to society? In Revolutionary Road, Frank and April suffer because they follow society s expectations on what a happy life should be but even after doing so, they are not truly happy. Men were expected to be the breadwinners while women were expected to take their place at home as housewives. The Wheelers kept true to that so that they could be happy and successful. Frank has an office job in New York while April is a housewife; They have two children and a home in Connecticut. Frank and April are aware of the standards that one needs to follow to be happy but somehow after they have had to follow those norms they are not. They both begin to feel trapped and feel like this is what the rest of their lives would be like. They began to think of ways to escape their lives and thoughtof ways to bring back excitement or meaning into their lives. The life of a man in the 1950s consisted of work and travel to work and home. In the film, Wheeler s neighbors show us the damage that men had to face when having to work all day. It hinders the relationship that men had with their wife and children. Frank and April s neighbor, Shep, shows us this when he tries to talk with his children. He asks them what they are doing and his kids completely ignore him. He s not there for most of the day and he does not have the time to bond with his family. Not only is their relationship with their kids damaged but their relationships with their wives. Frank notices that his life no longer has the adrenaline that it once used to. Frank says to April, I was full of blood, scared, but full of life . In this scene, Frank explains to April what he felt while he was out at war. He felt the thrill and adrenaline of something real. • 11. Main Features Of Perfect Competition Perfect competition is a type of market structre where there is highest level of competition. In perfect competition the firms are offering homogeneous product. Every firm believe that it can sell any amount of output it wishes at the prevailing market price. Because of homogenous product and large number of firms, no individual firm is in a position to effect the price of the product and therefore the demand curve for the firm under perfect competition is a horizontal straight line. 2.2 Meaning of Perfect Competition In Perfect competition there are a large number of buyers and sellers. Each seller is producing a very small level of industry s output, no individual buyer or seller can influence the price of the product. The products produced under perfect competition are homogenous, and each firm believes that it can sell any amount of output at the prevailing price. The economic agents have perfect knowledge about the market conditions.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Large Numbers of Sellers and Buyers: The industry or market includes a large number of firms (and buyers) so that each individual firm, however large supplies only a small part of the total quantity offered in the market. The buyers are also numerous so that no monopolistic power can affect the working of the market. Under these conditions each firm alone cannot affect the price in the market by changing its output. 2. Product Homogeneity: All the firms produces homogenous product. A buyer cannot differentiate among the products produced by different firms, and hence pay a uniform price for the goods produced by different firms. The assumptions of large number of sellers and of product homogeneity imply that the individual firm in immaculate rivalry is a price taker, and therefore the demand curve is considerably elastic, representing that the firm can offer any quantity of yield at the prevailing market price (Figure ... Advantages And Disadvantages Of Power Filter CHAPTER # 02 PASSIVE FILTERS 2.1 INTRODUCTION 2.2 FILTERS 2.3 ACTIVE FILTER 2.4 PASSIVE FILTERS 2.5 CLASSIFICATION OF PASSIVE FILTER 2.4 DISADVANTAGES OF PASSIVE FILTER 2.6 CONCLUSION 2.1 INTRODUCTION The increase of electronic equipments has caused the increase in the nonlinear loads and due to these loads power quality is being deteriorated. The supply voltage is distorted due to harmonic currents drawn from the supply by nonlinear loads. Distorted currents and voltage cause the user s equipment to not work properly, conductors will overheat and may decrease the efficiency and life of the equipment. Usually a passive LC power filter is employed to wipe out the current harmonics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The parallel LC circuits create the very high impedance to the unwanted signal and a series circuit forms very low impedance passage to ground at same frequency. 2.4 DISADVANTAGES OF PASSIVE FILTER Following are the disadvantages of the passive filters: Filter impedance should be smaller than the source impedance for mitigating the source current harmonics and hence compensation characteristics depend on system impedance. Overload condition can arise in the passive filter because of harmonics circulation arising from nonlinear loads which are connected at the connection point of passive filters. They are not recommended for the variable loads because their design is for some specific reactive power and changing the load can detune the filter. Resonances either in series or in parallel may appear in the system. [7] Passive filters do not use active elements and hence signal gain is not provided by them. Tuning of passive filters requires a lot of time and they are expensive when produced in large quantities. Passive filters higher than the 2nd order are complex and very difficult to design them. ... • 13. Healthy Predator-Prey Relationships Organisms within a predator prey relationship are intertwined in a co evolutionary battle for survival. Each depends on food, shelter, the environment, and the random chance of evolution in order to maintain balance in the relationship. If chance favors one side too heavily, it throws the species into disequilibrium and can lead to the demise of one or more species. Because of the potential severity of the consequences, it is important to investigate the contributing factors that help maintain a healthy predator prey dynamic. In order to reach solid conclusions, a well rounded research approach is required, lest one side of this is disproportionally represented. First, the survival mechanisms of prey will be explored through the example of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Preys have a more difficult role in the predator and prey dynamics as they have to expend energy in foraging for themselves as well as high predation risks. This also adds to the disequilibrium in the predator and prey relationship as prey s need more expenditure of energy for both foraging and escaping. In a research study done by Luttbeg et al. (1999) looked at behavioral response to predation risk in a predator and prey dynamic model. When the spiders are not around the grasshoppers eat more and grow more. (Luttbeg et al., 1999 However, when predation risk was present this tended to cause reduced feeding activity in order to increase vigilance and predator awareness thus imposing a great life history cause (Luttbeg et al., 1999).). Therefore, predator prey dynamics is highly affected and requires equilibrium in the way the prey chooses to balance its trade offs of foraging and predatory risk. In order to maintain the equilibrium of the predator prey dynamic the prey must find way to maximize food intake and minimize predator ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This p value indicates a significant difference between the avg. jump heights of males and females. The bars are the avg. jump heights along with standard deviation of the mean. Results: The p value of 0.00203 is p lt;0.05 thus we reject the null hypothesis and conclude that there is a significant difference between the two means. Maybe calves do play a roll but one that causes a relationship between the two. Other factors could have affected the overall results could be that the jumping was not standardized, lack of a bigger sample size, and the fact that when measuring the jump height it had to be predicted where the person s hand reached, thus leading to huge assumptions on the measuring part. Comparison of calf circumference and jump height in females Figure 3: Comparison of avg. calf circumference and jump height (both in CM) in females (n=10). A R2 value of 0.0426 (0.042592 in EXCEL) indicates a weak relationship between calf circumference and jump height. Results: Obtaining a R2 value of 0.042592 means there is no relationship between calf circumference and jump height. One cannot determine the jump height by having the calf circumference. Similarly with the calf circumference and jump height in males, physiologically, it would make more sense for the hamstrings and quads to play a bigger role in jumping height as they are bigger muscles and generate most of the force to jump. Even if calf circumference did have a role it might be insignificant. Additionally, there could have been other factors that contribute to the end results: everyone not jumping with the same intent (max effort versus minimal effort), possible injuries, or soreness. Another source that could have contributed to end results for being what they are is the lack of a big sample size. Additionally, measuring the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Mediterranean Diet Research Paper The Mediterranean diet is a selection of food choices based off the typical cultural diets of countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. This diet is often touted by dieticians and healthcare professionals as a dietary method for improving cardiovascular health. The main nutritional focuses of the diet are high intake of unsaturated fats, high intake of fiber, low intake of saturated fats, and low intake of sodium. Food choices should be centered around fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes, whole grains, seafood, and plant based oils, in addition reducing consumption of red meat and solid fats. A study by Vafeiadou et al. (2015), showed that dietary replacement of saturated fats (SFAs) by unsaturated fats did not improve cardiovascular function, but did result in beneficial effects on cardiovascular biomarkers. In this randomized, controlled, single bind study 195 men and women at moderate risk for cardiovascular disease, were randomly assigned to a 16 week isoenergetic diet that were either rich in SFAs, MUFAs, or polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). The primary cardiovascular measurement of function was flow mediated dilation, and secondary measurements were blood pressure, arterial stiffness, and serum levels of various biomarkers (lipids, glucose, insulin resistance). The results of this study showed that replacing a SFA diet with those of MUFAs or PUFAs did not significantly change flow mediated dilation, or arterial stiffness, a process which probably occurs at a rate much slower than the scope of this study. There was a significant decrease in recorded blood pressure of the MUFA and PUFA diet groups, compared to the increase in blood pressure of the SFA diet group. Other biomarkers such as total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and the total cholesterol/HDL cholesterol ratio improved significantly in the MUFAs and PUFAs diet replacement compared to that of the SFA diet ... At 1:01 am she was divinely called out by name and presented with a prophetic revelation. God revealed Four D Success Academy: an acronym with profound meaning: the Desire to achieve, the Determination to follow through, the Drive needed to maintain consistent efforts toward success, and the ability to Deliver by reaching one s goals. The ovaries and adrenal glands excrete abnormally high levels of male hormones which prevents the regular release of an egg, causing many fluid filled sacs, or cysts, to form on the ovaries. Several types of cysts can be found on the ovaries of someone diagnosed with PCOS, the most common being those developed during the menstrual cycle, functional cysts. Follicular cysts are a subcategory of functional cysts formed by the overgrown follicle resulting from an unreleased egg. When a follicle ruptures following the release of an egg, the follicle may reseal and cause fluid buildup, resulting in a corpus luteum cyst; these cysts may enlarge considerably, causing pain, bleeding, or twisting of the ovary (PCOS Awareness Association). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Common cause variation results from problems built into a system or process. This means the problem will exist regardless of outside variables (i.e. workers, machinery, etc.) Special cause variation is the result of a variable external to the system. These problems stem from a specific or unique condition (i.e. workers, machinery, etc.). It is important to understand the difference between the two because they require distinctly different methods of correction. Addressing the problem correctly can improve quality and reliability of output. However, misinterpreting a common cause variation as a special cause variation is a common and costly mistake. Managers begin to analyze and adjust the system assuming that the variation stems from a condition unique to their project when in reality it is an overarching organizational flaw. As a result, variation in quality and reliability may actual increase when managers attempt to compensate for what they mistakenly believe to be special cause variation. 4. What are the three reasons Goldratt argues are used to justify adding excessive amount of safety to our project duration estimates? In your project experiences, are these arguments justified? • 42. Essay about Domestic vs International Adoption In today s society, the idea of adoption is an open and welcome one. However, the biggest decision in adoption today is whether to adopt domestically or internationally. There is a very large growing trend in international adoptions today. Compared to adoption rates in 1987, in 2004 international adoptions had risen over 200% as compared to an 8% rise in domestic adoptions. After World War II, international adoptions began to rise because Americans began adopting European and Japanese war orphans. However, this was not the only reason for international adoptions. Desperate poverty and social upheaval such as the one child law in China, are factors that have led others to adopt from Latin America and China. Also, after the Child... In a domestic adoption, birth mothers can change their mind until they sign the legal paperwork. Each state varies on their time frames a birth mother can sign her paperwork, however most states allow the birth mother to sign 48 72 hours after the baby is born. From that point on, in most states, the birth mother cannot change her mind. In international adoptions countries can and do shut down all adoptions in their country. This means any adoptions in the process are stopped. You could be interested in adopting a certain child and it is not uncommon for the orphanage to promise this child to several agencies. The orphanage s goal is to place the children as soon as possible. On the plus side though, international adoptions are more lenient on who they let adopt. This can be a positive for many couples wanting to adopt that are not allowed to adopt domestically. Specifically, homosexual couples are welcomed in international adoptions, yet in some states are not legally allowed to adopt. Also, there are age restrictions for parents over the age of forty that do not apply for international adoption. English Colonies Dbq The original colonies in Northern America faced rapid development in the early seventeenth century, as the original colonists saw great potential in the region, and they gave hope to individuals throughout Europe for better lives. The original English colonists of 1607 1630 brought numerous values to Northern America that shaped the colonial lifestyle, and have continued to influence U.S. history. The colonies were rooted in religious ideals, labor opportunities, and the hope for economic gain. These original colonial values vary in the extent to which they shaped, and continue to shape, American history, but have all influenced the American character to some degree. The earliest English settlements in Northern America consisted of Jamestown, Plymouth, and the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The Pilgrims were Separatists that journeyed across the Atlantic Ocean aboard the Mayflower in 1620 in order to break away from the corrupt Church of England. They established the colony of Plymouth where they were able to practice their religion freely. Similarly, another Christian group called the Puritans, left England in 1630, also seeking refuge to practice their beliefs freely. John Winthrop created the notion of the City Upon a Hill for the Massachusetts Bay colony that exemplified the pure lifestyle and governance that would influence other societies (Doc D). In a family, it is the relations between children and parents as well as siblings. A child s success depends on both the physical presence of adults and attention given to the child by adults. The High School and Beyond sample shows that students who have two parents, one sibling, and a mother who expects college education have the lowest percentage of dropping out of school at 8.1%. On the other hand, students who have one parent, four siblings, and no college expectation have a whopping 30.6% of dropping out. This is caused by the absence of the single parent as he or she is most likely working. In addition, having more siblings means that the parent s attention is split and each child receive less consideration. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the second category has a higher dropout rate because they have less social capital. Alejandro Portes discuss the controversy surrounding the actual meaning and effects of social capital. Confusion arises due its applications to manifold topics as well as its uses on different group of people. He provided the concept by Pierre Bourdieu and James Coleman which centered on the benefits of social capital on an individual or a small group. He argued that Coleman focused on the advantages yielded to individual and then expand them to the whole community with subtlety. One of the most interesting of these theories is physicalism, which is the belief that everything in this world is physical or that all facts are physical facts. There are many arguments against physicalism, but one of the most well known and most successful arguments is the knowledgeargument. The knowledge argument illustrates that physicalism is false. The knowledge argument was created by Frank Jackson and he explained this argument in his paper, What Mary Didn t Know. This paper introduces the reader to a thought experiment that focuses on Mary, a scientist, who is locked inside of a black and white... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jackson specifically disagrees with premise one as the point of the knowledge argument is that Mary does not know everything there is to know about brain states and their properties as she does not know about the experience associated with them. Jackson correctly condenses the knowledge argument in his response by stating that Mary, before her release, knows everything physical about other people. Mary, before her release, does not know everything about other people because she learns something new about them after she is released. Therefore, there are truths about others, and herself, that the physicalist story leaves out. Churchland s first argument focuses on the idea that the two types of knowledge are different and the first one can be considered knowledge by description and the second kind of knowledge as knowledge by acquaintance. Some people, such as David Lewis and Laurence Nemirow, expand on Churchland s argument, which leads to a second, stronger opposition to the knowledge argument that considers the mode of presentation. Lewis and Nemirow criticize premise two and state that on Mary s release, she does not learn something new or acquire knowledge in the relevant sense. When she is released, Mary acquires a certain representational or imaginative ability, meaning Mary acquires abilities, or knowledge how, as opposed to learning truths, or ...
