Effects Of Negative Tweets During The 2011-2012 Primary...
This article touches on the effects of negative tweets during the 2011 2012 primary elections. The
author assumes that through research she would discover that candidates that had fewer votes would
be more inclined to take part in negative tweeting behaviors in regards to their fellow competitors
during the election. The tweets that would be posted would be negative towards the frontrunner s
charter versus stances on issues if candidates felt the same way on an issue. These assumptions raised
many questions to research as well. Moody, Cohen, and Fournon (2013) raised the first question of
What types of messages did candidates disseminate utilizing tweets during the 2011 12 Presidential
Primaries (p. 3). The next question brought up by Moody, Cohen, and Fournon (2013) was, Were
runner up candidates more likely than front runners to include a negative tone in their tweets (p. 3).
Then the third question stated by Moody, Cohen and Fournon (2013) was, Were runner up candidates
more likely than front runners to attack their opponents in their tweets (p. 3) Finally, the fourth and
final question raised by Moody, Cohen, and Fournon (2013) stated, What interactive units did
politicians use within their tweets. To what type of content did they link? What was the tone of
candidate hashtags (p. 3).
Method Description

The Potential Of The Se Re Innovations
3. Literature Review 3.1 Potential for the SE RE innovations SE RE is a fairly new concept but many
researches proves the high potential of its development. First of all, embracing the social values is the
aim of social enterprises, including the environmental sector such as using green energy, recycling or
tracking the fuel poverty. Moreover, growing state support for developing RET and the technical
reserve of RETs (like unmanaged woodlands, garden waste going to landfill, etc.) (Kellett, 2007), are
giving SE a potential market to explore (Van der Horst, 2008). The Northern Periphery Programme
energy cluster has highlighted that social entrepreneurship has not been yet fully utilized in renewable
energy solutions (SECRE, 2013). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As mentioned in Section ‎
2.1, more constraints may appear including finance, staff, management,
marketing, legal status, etc. Many case studies state, as most investors prefer established and
commercially viable enterprises more than start ups and smaller enterprises, it is difficult to access
capital (Smith, at el., 2014). Moreover, many social enterprises cannot fund themselves entirely
through sales or investment to get a share in traditional financial markets, which resulting in a
financial social return gap (Bugg Levine, at el., 2012). The hybrid nature also brings challenges to its
management level. Except establishing and legitimating organization, managers also have to find
suitable way to committed volunteers and employers and enlarged governance structures (Borzaga, at
el., 2001). The sorry state of the non profit directors (Appendix ‎
G) is shown in the recent survey,
which is among 924 nonprofit directors carried out by Stanford researchers (HBR, 2015). Human
resources is also one of the challenges social enterprises need to face. Lack of expertise in business
planning, legal and marketing skills is one reason. Also, hard to provide competitive salaries and even
relying on staff commitment to the social mission to make up it, may lead to staff shortage (Smith, at
el., 2014). Social

The Meaning Of Being Chinese And Chinese Immigrants
Immigration brings uncertainty, tensions between the past and present, and alterations in identity due
to acculturation as shown through Leon and other characters in Bone. In the psychological study, The
Meaning of Being Chinese and Being American : Variation among Chinese American Young Adults,
the correlation between the Chinese immigrating to the United States abridging Chinese and American
cultures varied based on their age of immigration and the duration of their time in the United States,
demonstrating that immigration provides a multifaceted experience for each individual. Chinese
immigrants who immigrated over the age of twelve, like Mah and Leon, present an anchored identity
as Chinese, but have to adapt through consciously engaging in American culture to survive. Leon
distances himself from his frustrations of living in America by going out to sea, evading Chinatown a
reminder of Ona s death , and by distracting himself in project inventions without any intentions of
completing them. Then, Mah immerses herself in work and relationships, including her affair with
Tommie Ham and her over involvement in her daughters lives. Chinese immigrants who immigrated
under the age of twelve, like Leila, are placed in the position of mediating between Chinese and
American cultures; they experience less certainty on which culture to identify with and often have to
consciously act to become a part of either. In her conversation with Nina, Leila reflects on how Nina s

An Ecological Footprint Analysis On The Environment
An ecological footprint analysis is a method to calculate the existing requirements created by each of
us in the world s environmentally productive area through our forms of the consumption of food and
additional goods and the distribution of built up ecologically decomposed terrain. Research allows us
to use this ecological footprint analysis to record the existing food system s pressures on the
environment. Ecological Footprint descriptions record the land of biologically beneficial soil and
water required to manufacture the resources exhausted by a certain population and to take up its waste
(Collins Flynn, 2015). The ecological footprint permits us to oversee a dominant risk to sustainability.
An example of this could be the liquidation of the globe s natural capital as we utilize further
resources than the environment can regenerate and generate more excess than the environment can
reprocess (Collins Flynn, 2015). Examination exposes the prominent function performed by the food
system within this liquidation and highlights how overwhelmingly a sustainable outlook depends on
redesigning that routine.
To create a single meal may take a large ecological footprint. The data presented by the Global
Footprint Network, suggests that my current standard of living would require enough resources to
sustain about 3.5 planet Earths (Ecological Footprint Quiz, 2016). This demonstrates why understand
ecological foot printing is so important and how we can make efforts to

Public Art Essay
Public Art Any drawn line that speaks about identity, dignity, and unity is art, (Chaz Bojorquey) is a
statement that I agree with. Art is perceived differently from all people based on their culture, religion,
personal taste, and many other factors. I believe that as long as what has been created is meaningful to
either the creator or even to somebody that is viewing it, it should be considered art. Art in the public
is a very controversial subject that brings up the important question of, Should public art be
considered as real art, personally I think that it should be. I believe that the difference between art that
is placed in a gallery and art that is visible by a community is the fact that what is acceptable in a
gallery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another possibly positive outcome of art in the public could be the affect that it may have on the
younger generations. If children are being raised in a community where they can see art on a daily
basis then I believe it will have a positive effect on their lives by allowing them to learn how to
appreciate art and what it has to offer. Art being in the public is also a way to grant people, who do not
have enough money to enjoy the luxury of going to a gallery, the pleasure of seeing something
aesthetically appealing on a regular basis. It also makes a town more interesting to visit; no one wants
to visit a town with not much excitement. I once went to an art festival in Baltimore, Maryland, where
they had green marbles ground up and put into the black top roads. This sight alone made my heart
race and made this town more exciting. For towns that may have tourism it could be a way to attract to
coming there or maybe even staying. Art can also be a controversial at the same time. There are many
people who express their idea of art in a way that, in my opinion, should not be seen by the public. For
example, many people consider paintings of naked women to be art, as do I, but I do not think it is
appropriate for a painting of that nature to become a piece of public art. Another example is people
who use profanity in their art. Swearing is not appropriate for a child to see painted on the side of their
neighborhood buildings. The thing

Term Life Insurance Policy
When you decide to purchase a term or a whole life insurance policy, the type you choose should be
based on the financial needs of your family. Although both life insurance policies provide a payout if
you pass away that covers the cost of college tuition, mortgage payments, and daily expenses, there
are major distinctions between two types. The team at Davies Barry Insurance, in Juneau, AK,
discusses the differences between term and whole life insurance.
Term Life Insurance
Term life insurance provides coverage for a set time period, most commonly 10, 20, or 30 years. It is a
relatively easy to understand policy that is customizable based on the coverage period and payout you
want your family to receive. Many people choose a time period

Bottle Feed Infants
Summary of Findings Researchers had hypothesized that bottle fed infants were over fed more rather
than their breast fed counterparts. So a study was conducted to see whether or not the infants who
were bottle fed turned out to be heavier in weight than those who were breast fed. In order to conduct
such a study twenty one mothers had signed up for the testing of their infants. Within the study the
mothers feed their infants the normal ways they would feed them at home and then the ways the
researchers had wanted them to feed them. With the results that the researchers got back from the
study they were able to calculate that the infant s intake and rate of feeding could account for the
obesity within the infants.

Effective Use Of Literary Techniques In Lightbox By Emma...
Imagine being followed all day and all night feeling as though eyes are always watching. Never being
able to feel comfortable. Privacy is non existent; there is always someone watching. The speaker
seems to be in a relationship with a girl named Elise. Throughout the story, the speaker hints at
watching her at various locations and constantly checking on her social media profiles. Emma Cleary
uses literary devices in the story Lightbox to make the story vague and misleading. The author makes
it seem like the characters are in a relationship. The author uses precise language to mislead the reader.
The speaker is vague and mysterious. The author makes it seem as though the characters are in a

Elsie takes off her coat and draws the bedroom curtains (Cleary 1). These pronouns are used to

Conformity And Rebellion In The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
In her short story, The Lottery, Shirley Jackson uses conformity and rebellion to convey the main
theme, which is that blindly following tradition can have negative consequences. The village members
show this through their actions while carrying out this lottery that they have done for generations. One
character, Tessie, is the outlier who is a rebellion compared to the other villagers. Her character s
actions contrast the other villagers, and make what they are doing seem much more irrational. It also
shows how the majority refuses to hear what one who deviates from the norm has to say. This allows
them to remain in a bubble and continue to live out the same customs year after year.
The villagers conform to these traditions for the sole reason that it s been done for so many years
before them. Long enough that they do not even remember certain aspects of it, like the tuneless chant
and the ritual salute . Characters like Old Man Warner are symbolic of the older generation that clings
without question to practices that may not continue to be beneficial for the community. The black box
from which the slips of paper are drawn represents the villagers inability to change. The box is very
old and in bad shape, but when it is suggested that the people make a new box, the subject is allowed
to fade off without anything s being done. Further emphasizing the long history of both the box and
the ritual, the narrator notes: There was a story that the present box had been made with some pieces
of the box that had preceded it, the one that had been constructed when the first people settled down to
make a village here. Old Man Warner, the oldest man in the village, also represents the theme of
tradition. When Mr. and Mrs. Adams suggest to Warner that some other villages have already given up
the lottery or are thinking about doing so, he replies with, Next thing you know, they ll be wanting to
go back to living in caves . There s always been a lottery. So the other villages who are straying from
tradition are dismissed right away and are seen as barbaric for not following the rules.
The children are so conditioned to the normalcy of the tradition, that they are able to continue their
games

The Amendment Is Not Protected Under The Freedom Of Speech...
The first amendment, of the Constitution, protects all citizens from Congress making laws that
respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the
freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the
Government for a redress of grievances. Most U.S citizens how this amendment, or at least a summary
of it, memorized. Citizens have the right to speak their mind as they sit fit, practice any religion, and
protest. However, in modern times, it is understandable to see why this is not entirely true. Court
decisions have put many restrictions on the liberties presented in the 1st amendment. A citizen cannot
use religion as an excuse for sacrifices, or protest in violent fashions. The most controversial, and
complicated, restrictions are those prohibiting certain kinds of speech. One of the Supreme is that
obscenity is not protected under the freedom of speech. A problem quickly raise was: what, exactly, is
obscenity? Under Miller v California, to be obscene a publication must, taken as whole, appeal to
prurient interest, must contain patently offensive depictions or descriptions of specified sexual
conduct, and on the whole have no serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value. It made sense
to ban specific types of speech that was, at the root, meant to be hateful or obscene. However,

Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel
INTRODUCTION
BIOGRAPHY
Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel are considered possibly the most important female
figures of the Romantic Era. Both women were friends living with the struggles of trying to make a
name for themselves as musicians and composers while living in the shadows of their famous male
family members: Robert Schumann and Felix Mendelssohn.
Clara Schumann
Clara Josephine Wieck was born on September 13, 1819 in Leipzig, Germany into a musical family.
Her father, Friedrich Wieck, was a first rate piano teacher. Her mother, Marianne Tromlitz, was a
soprano and one of Wieck s piano students. Clara Wieck s parents divorced when she was five years
old, leaving her and her four brothers in her father s custody. Tromlitz married Adolf Bargiel and
moved to Berlin, but she still kept in contact with Clara through letters. In 1824, rather than learning
the alphabet or her numbers, Clara started studying piano, violin, singing, music theory, harmony,
composition, and counterpoint primarily under the instruction of her father.
There was no subduing his determination to give a full trial to his method of teaching to apply it at
long range, reaching down into the infancy of his pupil, building thoroughly, broadly, greatly. He
would mold the daughter of his own blood, step by step, without fear of interference. The success of
the plan could make him the first teacher in Europe.
She soon became her father s star pupil. Although it was a rarity for women to

Roosevelt Biography depicts Franklin D. Roosevelt as a determined president who had no will to give
up. Despite his courageous efforts to overcome his crippling illness, he never regained the use of his

over his pain, FDR chose to take on the responsibility to aid other polio victims. Roosevelt s disability
led him to create a foundation to help polio victims and to fund the March of Dimes program which
eventually established an effective vaccine for the miserable disease. Moved to create a grand alliance
against the Axis powers...pledged themselves to a peacekeeping organization (15). As America battled
the Axis powers which consisted of Germany, Italy, and Japan during World War II, FDR did not want
his country to be defined as a defeated nation. With all his power, Roosevelt united several countries
who fought against the Axis powers into a single organization currently known as the United Nations

The person conducting the review or decision should not be related in any way to the procurement in
question, they should be a neutral party. When a contractor files a protest it needs to be logical and to
the point, it should also contain the protestor s name, address and contact information and needs to
specify that this is a protest. When filing a protest at the agency level there are two different deadlines.
You can either file before the closing of the bid or after. In this case if the larger company file after the
bid is closed they have 10 days to do so after the basis for the protest is known. If the protest is
received before the award, no award with be issued until the protest is resolved. If the larger company
decides to file their protest at the GAO level, the same rules apply. They need to have a clear and
concise format and it must be in writing. When filing at the GAO level the protest needs to be
detailed, factual and legal grounds for the complaint. There needs to be proof of prejudice as the basis.
The contractor will also need to provide the agency with a full copy of their protest or complaint. At
the GAO level there are three different deadlines, but they all need to be filed no later than 10 days
after the protestor learns of the offensive action. The last way to file a protest is through the U.S. Court
of Federal Claims. In this scenario there is a judge that will preside over the matter and act as

My Memories That Changed My Mind
One of the memories that is more permeate in my mind is when my father had to travel to China for
business intentions. I remember when he leaves the country, but not more than when he arrived home.
Usually, when he came back home, he usually bring with him some gifts for me and my mother, and
he never forgets to bring me my favorite gift which I still love when he give away to me. I like to call
it as the God´s dessert because of its curious shape of production, intense flavor, and delightful
meaning. Thinking in this product makes me want to have some of it. The first impression people
might have when they see this dessert is that it might be an expensive and luxurious product because
of its embellished packaging. It can be identified by the cute design of the box due to the fact that on
the left of the box there is a sumptuous ribbon that its background color is a combination between dark
cinnamon and lightly caramel, furthermore, the ribbon has the brand´s name sketched all around it.
The theme color of the whole box is pearly white what makes the letters of the brand, written on the
top of the box, stand out in a bright gold. Moreover, bellow the ribbon there is a little description in
French about the glamorous product and next to it a small window made of transparent plastic where
the small pieces of the product are shown to the public. The most interesting thing comes after its
purchase. I start feeling the anxiety when it is time to open this fancy box because as

American Pirsoners Of War In Vietnam Essay
Prisoners of War (POWs): In international law, term used to designate incarcerated members of the
armed forces of an enemy, or noncombatants who render them direct service and who have been
captured during wartime.1
This definition is a very loose interpretation of the meaning of Prisoners of War (POWs). POWs
throughout history have received harsh and brutal treatment. Prisoners received everything from
torture to execution. However, in recent times efforts have been made to reduce these treatments and
to get humane treatment for POWs. These attempts include the Geneva Convention of 1949.
Unfortunately, during the Vietnam Conflict, these rules of war were not always obeyed, as they are
now. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not a specific torture, but a very painful experience that POWs had to deal with everyday, was hunger.
Malnutrition, and hunger became a POW s worst enemy, and led to many of the 114 deaths among the
prisoners.
Another excruciating obstacle that prisoners sometimes faced was torture. Torture was against the
Geneva Accords, but then again, so were many other acts that the NVA and Vietcong (VC) committed
against American POWs. Torture sometimes only consisted of a few blows with a bamboo stick, to an
all out beating until the prisoner was unconscious, to sometimes even worse acts of violence.
They grabbed him off the stool, backward, out the doorway of the bamboo house, across a muddy
yard to an even smaller outbuilding...Two more guards burst into the crowded little room and
unleashed a cascade of kicks and clubbing, striking Gruters about the chest, belly, and arms.4
Guy Gruters, a United States Air Force F 4 pilot, was shot down over Vietnam on December 21, 1967,
and when he would not answer his captors questions, was beaten severely. After this his interrogators
gave him the rope torture .
Behind him, three of the soldiers got to work with a length of rough hemp rope. They tied a series of
shockingly tight hitches around his naked right bicep, then dragged the coiled line under his left
armpit and yanked, hard. Gruters felt muddy, cleated boot soles on the back of his neck where the
soldiers were getting leverage. What the hell are they

Sticks and Stones
Freedom of Speech is possibly the most respected American ideal. Envied by citizens of countries
where self expression is a right of some and stricken from others, we uphold this concept with
defensive pride. However, we must ask ourselves if this freedom can ever go too far. When does
lenience turn into naivety? If speech is abused so freely that it enslaves the minds of another should it
become a privilege, rather than a right? In his essay On Racist Speech , Charles R. Lawrence III
argues for limitations on Freedom of Speech as described in the First Amendment to prevent only the
most heinous racial remarks. While I understand why many Americans initially find limiting freedom
of speech contradictory to the concept of our free states, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some citizens opposed a restriction on speech simply because they feel it is not a complete upholding
of American law. However, we must decide whether the restriction of free speech for protection is
entirely acceptable or not at all because responses are often inherently hypocritical. While opposition
will often argue that racial comments cause no harm and are a right of the First Amendment, the same
people may argue for restrictions of free speech in other circumstances. It is likely that the majority of
people oppose allowing pedophiles the right to express their sexual feelings to a child over the
internet, which is already a legally enforced restriction on freedom of speech. Although there may be
no physical contact between the child and the pedophile, it is important to parents that their children
are protected from the possibility of such a threat as well as any emotional distress caused by
inappropriate comments. Further examples are found in government views on sexism in the
workplace. How much can we restrict the class of people we defend before our laws become just as
prejudice as the injustice they attempt to cease? Lawrence reminds us that the Supreme Court... held
that sexual harassment that creates a hostile or abusive work environment violates the ban on sex
discrimination in employment of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. (64); the same Title
prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion... and national

The Three Jewels Of Buddhism
Puja, which means offering in Sanskrit and worship in Pali, is one of the principle ceremonies in
Buddhism. It can be conducted either at home or a Buddhist temple and has no specific time or rules.
Puja integrates the principle beliefs of Buddhism which are the three Jewels, Four Noble Truths,
marks of existence and karma, samsara, nirvana through the elements of bowing, offering, chanting
and meditation. It is with these elements that the principle beliefs of Buddhism are demonstrated.
The three Jewels are an intrinsic part of Buddhism. It includes the Buddha who founded Buddhism,
Dhamma which is the teachings of the Buddha and the Sangha which is the community of monks and
nuns. This belief is demonstrated through bowing. Buddhists during Puja bow three times in front of
the statue of the Buddha. This symbolises the three Jewels in Buddhism. An example of this is Tibetan
Buddhists laying their whole body on the floor when bowing. This shows modesty, devotion and
commitment to the three jewels. Without the element of bowing the three Jewels would not be
acknowledged in the Puja. Since the three Jewels are the foundation of Buddhist beliefs, bowing is an
integral part of Puja. Moreover, Puja can be seen as disrespectful if it is not recognising the teacher,
teachings and the community that founded Buddhism. Hence, bowing is a vital part of Puja as it
acknowledges the three Jewels.

The year of the bland and the boring, the self conscious and the self righteous battle. The year that was

everyone had a crush on him. With long brown swoopy hair, blue eyes and crazily tall, how could any
fifth grader not fall for him. I never even spoke to him and got jittery any time I made eye contact

I remember on one of the first nights somewhere in Indiana, the girls were assigned to the top floor of
the church and the boys were assigned to the auditorium. As soon as all the girls had finally settled

teenage girls I didn t understand what was going on. My mom led all of the girls to the basement
where the boys had already re unloaded their stuff. We set down our blow out beds quickly on the
opposite side of the room and moved tables to separate boys and girls. When I finally laid down on

Archetypes Of Helen
Let me preface this with that I knew absolutely nothing about Helen of Troy nor of Ancient Greece or
its beliefs or values, I just always wanted to visit. What I learned is that I do not categorize her as a
femme fatale. A femme for certain but I do not believe that she fits that fatale archetype. Per myth, her
father was Zeus or Tyndareus, her mother was Leda or Nemesis. Her father, now King Tyndareus (not
Zeus) had to create the Oath of Tyndareus due to the overwhelming number of suitors that wanted to
marry Helen. Fast forward to Paris and The Apple of Discord and Aphrodite sending him to most
beautiful woman on earth, Helen, her subsequent abduction or seduction, thus causing the Trojan War.
Now the legend of Helen s conception is where it gets strange and perverse, Zeus either raped Leda or
Nemesis in the form of a swan or she Leda was impregnated by Tyndareus. If Leda was the mother
she had two eggs (yes like a swan), and out of the two eggs came Helen and her siblings however if
Nemesis was the mother, she was so mad with Zeus for the rape that she ... Show more content on

Helen is highlighted as a woman meant to suffer death at the hands of her ex husband Menelaus back
in Greece. I chose this piece due to the fact that I believe that it illustrates again how Helen cannot be
a femme fatale. Helen is yet again a pawn, without a voice in her own life. Beauty is certainly a value
however men make all the decisions. I believe that both works expound upon the understanding of
Helen of Troy, albeit the poetry of that time is hard for me to decipher. In Homer s Iliad, I believe
Helen is blamed for the war and it casts her more as the femme fatale, not just the femme. In The
Trojan Women, she is meant to suffer for leaving with Paris and I believe this completely muddies the
water for what I currently know about the femme fatale archetype. Her beauty, being the main value,

Deer Hunting
Week 7 (Assignment 6)
The Way to a Good Deer
English
November 22, 2011
Deer hunting is a very demanding hobby. The one thing that everyone must keep in mind when
hunting is your safety and the safety of others. The reason for this is that you are using a weapon that
can cause serious harm to you or someone, but this is not what this essay is about. I want everyone to
actually learn what it takes to be a hunter. Being a hunter takes skill and understanding how deer sense
things.
The first thing that comes to everyone s mind when thinking about hunting is killing Bambie. This is
not the way I think, because of how I was raised. I took up hunting at an early age. I would always go
with my father. So, here is what I have learned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This is how I was thought by my father; we still to this day go by this. It has made me a good hunter.
Every time I go, I can come back with one if I wanted to. After years of hunting, I only take the ones I

Cold War Dbq Research Paper
n the time period following World War 2, the beginning of the Cold War, Americans mainly feared
three things: the spreading of communism in the United States, the communist investigators
supposedly in America, and nuclear war between America and the Soviet Union.
Communism was covering Asia and Europe, striking fear in individuals as country after country fell
into communism. As American politicians strengthened the idea of containment, and cabinet members
such as John Foster Dulles spread the idea that if world communism...will increase the danger to the
entire free world, Americans were greatly fearing communism. Citizens began believing others when
they announced that communism was endangering the peace of America (Document B) and when they
addressed the problem they had created by making statements such as we fear the men in the Kremlin.
American citizens highly feared this horrific government of communism, and the Eisenhower
Administration did nothing to little to prevent these fears. Even though they acknowledged these fears,
they used this fear as support for spending on military defense. The Americans fear during this time

Thanks to Contemporary Nursing Essays
The Nursing Practice has come a very long way from what is use to be. Nursing was an unwanted
profession, difficult and challenging in many ways. It was thanks to the dedication, great effort and
sacrifice of many determined nurses that paved the way for contemporary nursing. Dating back to
around middle of the first century Christians use to care and tend the sick, serving as one of the first
nurses that history can account. When the small pox epidemic occurred in around 165 to 185 AD,
these Christians served as nurses. Now, we can imagine how hard it would have been to be a nurse in
those days. The conditions were deplorable, with barely any hygiene. There were harsh conditions to

Nursing was even harder for women whose skin color did not favor them at the time, due to racism. A
great example was Mary Seacole, a woman with a great determination to cure the sick and tend to the

petition to be part of her team of nurses (Carnegie, 1995). This could have been a setback for an
ordinary person, but it did not stop well determined Mary Seacole, she was everything but ordinary.
Her persistence to serve those in need of medical care let her to travel more than 3000 miles to
Crimea. With limited resources, she bought and opened a lodging house, in which she took care of the
wounded soldiers (Carnegie, 1995). Long after the war was over, she received recognition for taking
care of the wounded.
Determination and great effort are some of the words that come to mind when reviewing some of the
heroic acts by the great nursing pioneers. World War I brought out to light amazing people. There was
great necessity for medical assistance in the battlefield and outside the battlegrounds (Nies and
McEwen 2011). Mary Breckenridge is an example of the women whom influenced in medical care of
the wounded during the war. Aside from establishing the Frontier Nursing Service (FNS), Mary

Diverse University Experience
Universities in the present globalized world have a diverse student population. I believe this aspect has
an important role to play in the overall educational experience of students. Diversity has many forms
such as gender, race or ethnicity, nationality or place of origin, disability, etc. When students interact
with fellow students who are different from them, they learn to value and respect differences. I feel it
helps in developing students who are more open to new ideas and willing to experiment. Ultimately,
this creates a more tolerant society. Growing up in India surrounded by cultures different from my
own, I was encouraged to value both the commonalities and differences of the human experience. As a
graduate student at McGill, and while living in Montreal, a vibrant multicultural city, the experiences
that I gained further shaped my worldview. To demonstrate how I will employ my competency in a

In this essay the author argued the strategy employed by Mr. Booker T. Washington during a period in
history where race relations were hyper sensitive. Mr. Washington felt that the only chance for the
survival and development of the Negro race was to submit to the white man by giving up three critical
rights of American society; those were, the right to vote, civil rights, and access to higher education. In
doing so, he calculated that if black people focused on industrial education, wealth accumulation, and
conciliation of the South, they d stand a better chance of advancing as a race. As Du Bois argued, In

The Human Genome Project
The Human Genome Project (HGP) began in 1990 with funding from the Department of Energy and
the National Institutes of Health with the goal of decoding the human genome. Researchers from
across the world are working in conjunction to understand the sequence of amino acid base pairs and
how they interact with one another to elicit specific genetic reactions. Once the decoding of the
genome takes place, scientists will be able to develop individual treatment plans and understand a
number of diseases. Research has found that there are over 3 billion amino acid base pairs which make
up 20,000 genes. Of these 20,000 genes, the human genetic code is defined by forty six tightly packed
bunches called chromosomes. Due to the vast array of amino acid base pairs, the project has taken
over ten years to complete the sequencing of the specific parts, but the task of understanding how the
parts interact one another and the influence they have on diseases has yet to be accomplished. The
genetic material in chromosomes defines human attributes and is developed from proteins. Proteins
are a series of amino acids, which are strung together, and the unique combination of nucleic acids (A,
T, C, and G) in the protein give specific directions to the cell to produce certain combinations of
amino acids. This process creates proteins varying in form and function based upon the series of
amino acids. The differing proteins cause numerous actions in the body to be carried out, and are

What are the challenges in the implementation of ERP system!
Information systems play a vital role in improving the competitiveness of a company. There are many
types of enterprise information software packages which are available in the market since the year of
90s till today (Mandal Gunasekaran, 2003). Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is one of them. Due
to intense competition around the world, many of the manufacturing company had decided to

Big bang and the phased in approach are the two general approaches to achieve this objective. The big
bang method is known to be more ambitious and risky of the other two. Most organizations are using
this approach to change the operations of their outdated system to the latest system which in one event
implements the ERP system throughout the entire company. This particular method had certain
advantages, where it has been linked to few system failures. This is because during the
implementation of ERP system is going on, on day one of implementing, the employees of the
organization will not have the capability to understand the new system. Therefore, it brings the feeling
to the employees like learning a new job. In many cases, most companies would not have sufficient
knowledge of functionality of the system that they had replace and also because ERP system serves
the entire organization and employees who does data input points will find themselves entering more
data than they used to do previously with the old system. Nevertheless, the main problem with big
bang approach is that the entire company is affected and these problems usually occurred whenever
any new system is implemented. Therefore, the speed of the new system usually suffers and causes the
interruption to day to day activity of the company (Hall, 2007).
Secondly, the phased in approach has issued as a popular alternative. This way is more suitable with

Tornado Essay
A tornado is defined as a violently rotating column extending from a thunderstorm to the ground. The
most violent tornadoes are capable of tremendous destruction with wind speeds of two hundred and
fifty miles per hour or more. Damage paths can be more than one mile wide and fifty miles long. In an
average year, eight hundred tornadoes are reported nationwide, resulting in eighty deaths and over one
thousand five hundred injuries. In the body of my essay, I will tell you about types of tornadoes, where
tornadoes come from, where and when tornadoes occur, the damage they inflict, variations of
tornadoes, and how to detect tornadoes.

Tornadoes can also occur in many other areas of the world as well. They have been recorded in
Australia, Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America as well as in North America. They occur mostly
during the spring and summer; however, the tornado season comes early in the south and later in the
north because spring comes later in the year as one moves northward. They usually occur during the
late afternoon and early evening. However, they have been know to occur in every state in the United
States, on any day of the year, and at any hour.
The damage from tornadoes comes from the strong winds they contain. It is generally believed that
tornado wind speeds can be as high as three hundred miles per hour in most violent tornadoes. Wind
speeds that high can cause automobiles to become airborne, rip ordinary homes to shreds, and turn
broken glass and other debris into lethal missiles. The biggest threat to living creatures, including
humans, from tornadoes is from flying debris and from being tossed about in the wind. It used to be
believed that the low pressure in a tornado contributed to the damage by making buildings explode but
this is no longer believed to be true.
Some variations of tornadoes are that they can be found in the early stages of rapidly developing
thunderstorms. This type of tornado is most common along the range of the Rocky Mountains, the

primary reasons why they began to use the new concepts in video rental instead of continuing to use
the rental store. In those who continue to show patronage to the rental store, the primary reason is
based in their own lack of technological advancement or desire for change. Individuals may be
satisfied with the status quo because their needs are being met, they may view any potential change as
negative (Spector, 2010, pg. 9).
Within the organization itself resistance to change by employees is primarily based in fear. Individuals

Comparing Sexuality and Power in Dracula and Buffy the Vampire Slayer
At first glance, Joss Whedon s Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the hour long TV series which premiered in

craze Bram Stoker s Dracula, published a century earlier. And yet, looks can be deceiving. Although
the trendy and often skimpy clothing and bandied about pop culture references of Buffy clearly mark
the series as a product of a far different culture than that of the Victorian England of Dracula, the
underlying tensions of the two texts are far similar than one might think. Beneath the surface

I figured putting money towards efficiency would not only allow me to create more units, but it would
also bring down the amount of wastage as to where increasing SCU would create more wastage and
also make the efficiency upgrades that I would purchase less effective per dollar. This is likely because
with more SCU, comes more equipment and more employees that need to be trained or upgraded with
efficiency updates in order to improve production and productivity. Therefore, less units equals less
distribution of upgrades.
I essentially wanted to be an efficient company that could maintain a steadily increasing Share Holder
Value with as few expenditures as possible, and it seemed to be working for a while. I also wanted to

own rationale, we prefer to apply the classic production approach since deposits are neglected in the
intermediation approach and our dataset consists only out of deposit banks. Also Ferrier and Lovell
(1990) argue using the production approach if you are measuring the cost efficiency of banks because
it takes only the operating costs of banking into account. On the other hand, the intermediation
approach is preferable if you want to investigate the viability of banks since it is concerned with the
overall costs of banking. But since we want to conduct a comprehensive and thorough research on this
subject, we will also include a stochastic frontier model based on the intermediation approach inputs

Mindfulness Reflection Paper
I have a somewhat regular, yet sincere contemplative mindfulness practice that helps me understand
why I experience life the way I do both internally and externally. I get to see my own urges, those I m
not really aware of such as the urge to multi task. Practicing mindfulness meditation and other
mindfulness practices I learned to become in touch with my own urges and to control them through
awareness and self discipline. So, here are a few reflections for your coffee time. As you sip on your
deliciously made aromatic coffee, tea or hot cocoa accept these thoughts for your reflection.
Finally, at the 3rd mindfulness class I took with Daniel, I decided to do the homework he had
suggested to everyone, which was to do one thing we do routinely during the day, mindfully. That is to
be with the experience of it and fully giving it our undivided attention. For example, if we chose
brushing our teeth, he said, to brush slowly, feel every stroke as the brush moved around the mouth,
what it felt like, the taste of the tooth paste, what the mind was doing; observe everything about that
experience, while also focusing on our breath. This was our mindfulness exercise, which to me didn t
sound too exciting. It took a lot of self discipline to be able to stay with an activity and not wonder off
in the mind. So,I never did the tooth brush exercise.

Theories Of Structuralism In Literature
Structuralism and its different approaches to literature Structuralism was developed in France in 1950
s as an approach of reading literary texts. Structuralism seeks to understand that no element can be
understood separately. It attempts to understand a work of art in the context of the larger structures
they are part of. Structuralism is a way of thinking and activities which is chiefly concerned with the
perceptions and descriptions of structures. In this regard, Terence Hawkes says:
The full significance of any entity cannot be perceived unless and until it is integrated into the surface
of which it forms a part.1

Griemas work Structural Semantic (1966) is an important work of structuralist narratology. He
develops structural semantics based on Saussaure s notion of binary opposition which he has called
structural semiotics. For Griemas there always exists opposition to generate meaning. He declares that
there are various sematic units that work in opposition. He called these as seme. And meaning comes
out in the opposition between semes, for example, old/young; black/white; boy/girl etc. These semes
function as actants (structural unit, neither a character nor a specific narrative event) to produce
narrative. Griemas semes are based on Saussurean notion that form the basic formula, the rules and
the underlying structure of language (langue). The semes express themselves as narrative and plots
and stories in contexts (parole). Thus the semes in different combinations are stated in particular
contexts to generate stories in particular contexts. In literary theory, the basic structure of the
production of meaning through binary opposition is called signification. We often find the dual
opposition or semes in a text or any piece of

Invasion Of D-Day Normandy
June 6th 1944 will be the most important invasion of world war two. The invasion of Normandy,
France was the turning point of world war two. In the invasion of D Day over 425,000 Allied and
German troops were either killed or wounded. An examination of primary and secondary sources will
reveal the historical importance of this event. There was many countries involved in world war two. D
Day had involved the countries The United States, France, Great Britain, Germany and Canada(Hine

For the invasion of Normandy, France the beaches were separated into five sections. The United States
held two sections on the beach code named Omaha Beach, and Utah Beach, while Great Britain,
France, and Canada the other three sections of the beach. These beaches code names were Gold
Beach, Juno Beach, and Sword Beach (Groff, 294). Many French, British, Canadian, and American
soldiers died before even reach the beaches of Normandy. German machine guns and artillery were
mowing down allied soldiers, many generals died in the landing so lower ranking official such as
privates had to step up just to rally the soldiers together for an advance to the shores (Capa, 294). Any
kind of artillery fire fired by the allies during the invasion did not hit and was very unsuccessful in the
invasion because it was really foggy and wanted to be cautious and not fire upon any of their own men
which resulted in the artillery not helping at all during the invasion. Another setback for the invasion
was the strong ocean tides. The strong tides of the Atlantic Ocean pushed the Allied landing boats and
supply ships far off course from there landing point (Gibbs, 20). Many infantry men began to take
cover behind sunken friendly landing boats, random

Description Of The s Exchange Principle
Introduction Locard s exchange principle states that every contact leaves a trace indicating that trace
evidence left by the perpetrator will always be found in the scene of crime (1). These trace evidence
include hair follicles, to sweat, to skin cells and footwear impression, etc. They are valuable
information that can incriminate a person and enable the law to carry out appropriate punishment. The
value of these evidence will however decrease if they are not treated or processed appropriately (2).
Footwear impressions are marks made by the outer surface of the sole of a footwear (outsole for
shoes) (3). These marks are distinctive patterns that belong to specific shoe types and manufacturers
(2,3). Therefore, an impression that found at a crime scene can be used to identify the shoe type and or
specific shoe. Footwear impression identification is based on matching random individual wear
characteristics formed on the shoe by its wearer during its life (2,3). Therefore, footwear impression
analysis can be proven difficult due to the large number of footwear outsole pattern designs (2,3).
These impressions form when the footwear is pressed on a surface and the outsole pattern is
transferred onto that surface (2, 3). Footwear impressions are classed into two main groups, two
dimensional (2D) and three dimensional (3D). The 3D prints are those that are found on substrates
such as snow or mud while 2D prints are those formed on floors or carpets (3). Useful

Summary Of Romeo And Juliet Act 1 Scene 5
Decades later, the Capulet and Montague have settled down in different direction, yet, the conflicts
have not come to an end. The Capulet went to Europe and settled in the peaceful, historical town of
Pembroke, in Wales. While, the Montague remained in the luxurious New York City. February 14th,
2017, Valentine day and the day when Capulet s lovely daughter, Juliet turns sixteen. To honor that,
Capulet had decided to throw a party for his beloved only daughter in their grand, celestial mansion.
The mansion is quite similar to the majestic Pembroke Castle. However, the Capulet s mansion is
designed in a more modern style and built in the 1900s, after Juliet s grandfather passed away. Romeo!

Let s go see how hot she can be, he grinned and walked away. Don t you dare steal that beauty from
me! Benvolio yelled from behind. At the party... Juliet standing on the balcony and looking down
borely at the upcoming guests. She had never liked party or people. Then, Juliet decided to take out a
hand sliver gun and began to play with it. This gun was specifically designed for her, it fits perfectly
for Juliet s baby soft hands. Juliet, put that dangerous weapons away, Anyways, I want to tell you that
there s someone that your parents wanted you to meet, the Nurse scolded. Yes... I ll be there in a
second... Juliet muttered softly. Ohh, cheers up my baby girl, it s your party, enjoy it! the Nurse said
lovably to Juliet. Romeo walked out of the mansion and into the back garden. He breathed the fresh
air. Suddenly, at the corner of his eye, he saw the back of the most beautiful girl. It felt like a dream
when her beautiful, soft, wavy blond hair fly in the air.Romeo felt his heart racing. She was facing her

Biochemical Test E. Coli
I had discovered that my unknown microbe is Escherichia coli (E. coli). After performing various
biochemical tests E. coli seemed to fit my microbe the best with only having two misguided
biochemical tests that had not fit the data. The tests that were performed included the MRVP test,
catalase test, oxidase test, nitrate test, citrate slant test, phenylalanine deaminase test, urea test, SIM
test, TSI test, and starch test. These tests helped me discover my microbe along with a few other tests.
The first biochemical test I performed was the MRVP test. This test is known as the Methyl Red and
Vages Proskauer test. It is a broth containing peptone, buffers, and dextrose or glucose. My microbe
was Methyl Red positive and Vages Proskauer negative. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This test is used to see if the microbe can hydrolyzes urea to ammonia and carbon dioxide. When there
is an alkaline environment the color turns to pink. Turning pink would present a positive result. The
SIM test tested negative for sulfur reduction presenting no sign of the color black, positive for indole
production presenting the color red, and positive for motility. Sulfur reduction is a test used to
differentiate enteric bacteria. The indole production test differentiates Enterobacteriaceae. For testing a
wide variety of organisms the motility test is used. The TSI test stands for triple sugar iron agar, my
results had turned out positive presenting a yellow slant and yellow butt (acid/acid). The microbe was
a lactose fermenter. The test is used to see the fermentation of lactose, glucose, and sucrose. The last
test I had done was the starch hydrolysis. I had gotten a positive result when the result should have
been negative. A halo may or may not be seen with the presents of iodine. When a halo is present it is
positive, starch is present. When a halo is not present it means there is an absence of starch. When the
media is positive it means that extracellular enzymes are capable of diffusing into the medium. E. coli
is supposed to be starch

Martin Luther King Jr Influence
For centuries, African Americans and indigenous peoples have been overlooked, discriminated
against, and seen as inferior for one reason: the colour of their skin. Over time, society has evolved in
many ways due to many people s courage and determination, notably Martin Luther King Jr a Baptist
Minister and the leader of multiple civil rights protests and movements. In Australia, Aboriginal
people were granted voting rights before Federation in 1901, but only if they had served in the army
and were over 21. It wasn t until 1962 that all Aboriginal Australians were allowed to vote. In 1924,
all Native Americans were granted the right to vote, regardless of cultural connection. Even though
around the world, dark skinned people were starting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Martin Luther King Jr. enlightened so many lives. He shifted the world s balance and changed the way
people see. In the modern day, society are more trusting and inclusive of people from different
cultures every day, and King was the spark that lighted that fire of equality. To order King s most to
least successful achievements and attempts, I could not decipher, as his entire career was a complete
success and society would not be where we are today if it weren t for each accomplishment. But to
name all his massive political triumphs in order of their occurrence I can: King was chosen to head the
Montgomery Improvement Association, he became the youngest recipient of the Spingarn Medal, he
became president of a group known as the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, he led a
nonviolent army to protest against discrimination in Albany, he campaigned to achieve the
desegregation of many public facilities in Birmingham, he received a Nobel Peace Prize, he led a
drive to register black voters in Selma, Alabama, he conducted a five day march from Selma to the
capitol in Montgomery, he organized protests against the city s discrimination in housing and
employment, he inspired and planned the Poor People s Campaign, a march on Washington, D.C., and

  • 2. Effects Of Negative Tweets During The 2011-2012 Primary... This article touches on the effects of negative tweets during the 2011 2012 primary elections. The author assumes that through research she would discover that candidates that had fewer votes would be more inclined to take part in negative tweeting behaviors in regards to their fellow competitors during the election. The tweets that would be posted would be negative towards the frontrunner s charter versus stances on issues if candidates felt the same way on an issue. These assumptions raised many questions to research as well. Moody, Cohen, and Fournon (2013) raised the first question of What types of messages did candidates disseminate utilizing tweets during the 2011 12 Presidential Primaries (p. 3). The next question brought up by Moody, Cohen, and Fournon (2013) was, Were runner up candidates more likely than front runners to include a negative tone in their tweets (p. 3). Then the third question stated by Moody, Cohen and Fournon (2013) was, Were runner up candidates more likely than front runners to attack their opponents in their tweets (p. 3) Finally, the fourth and final question raised by Moody, Cohen, and Fournon (2013) stated, What interactive units did politicians use within their tweets. To what type of content did they link? What was the tone of candidate hashtags (p. 3). Method Description Research method applied in the study The research method used in this study is a content analysis of tweets used during the Republican primary elections. Study ... • 3. The Potential Of The Se Re Innovations 3. Literature Review 3.1 Potential for the SE RE innovations SE RE is a fairly new concept but many researches proves the high potential of its development. First of all, embracing the social values is the aim of social enterprises, including the environmental sector such as using green energy, recycling or tracking the fuel poverty. Moreover, growing state support for developing RET and the technical reserve of RETs (like unmanaged woodlands, garden waste going to landfill, etc.) (Kellett, 2007), are giving SE a potential market to explore (Van der Horst, 2008). The Northern Periphery Programme energy cluster has highlighted that social entrepreneurship has not been yet fully utilized in renewable energy solutions (SECRE, 2013). ... As mentioned in Section ‎ 2.1, more constraints may appear including finance, staff, management, marketing, legal status, etc. Many case studies state, as most investors prefer established and commercially viable enterprises more than start ups and smaller enterprises, it is difficult to access capital (Smith, at el., 2014). Moreover, many social enterprises cannot fund themselves entirely through sales or investment to get a share in traditional financial markets, which resulting in a financial social return gap (Bugg Levine, at el., 2012). The hybrid nature also brings challenges to its management level. Except establishing and legitimating organization, managers also have to find suitable way to committed volunteers and employers and enlarged governance structures (Borzaga, at el., 2001). The sorry state of the non profit directors (Appendix ‎ G) is shown in the recent survey, which is among 924 nonprofit directors carried out by Stanford researchers (HBR, 2015). Human resources is also one of the challenges social enterprises need to face. Lack of expertise in business planning, legal and marketing skills is one reason. Also, hard to provide competitive salaries and even relying on staff commitment to the social mission to make up it, may lead to staff shortage (Smith, at el., 2014). Social ... • 4. The Meaning Of Being Chinese And Chinese Immigrants Immigration brings uncertainty, tensions between the past and present, and alterations in identity due to acculturation as shown through Leon and other characters in Bone. In the psychological study, The Meaning of Being Chinese and Being American : Variation among Chinese American Young Adults, the correlation between the Chinese immigrating to the United States abridging Chinese and American cultures varied based on their age of immigration and the duration of their time in the United States, demonstrating that immigration provides a multifaceted experience for each individual. Chinese immigrants who immigrated over the age of twelve, like Mah and Leon, present an anchored identity as Chinese, but have to adapt through consciously engaging in American culture to survive. Leon distances himself from his frustrations of living in America by going out to sea, evading Chinatown a reminder of Ona s death , and by distracting himself in project inventions without any intentions of completing them. Then, Mah immerses herself in work and relationships, including her affair with Tommie Ham and her over involvement in her daughters lives. Chinese immigrants who immigrated under the age of twelve, like Leila, are placed in the position of mediating between Chinese and American cultures; they experience less certainty on which culture to identify with and often have to consciously act to become a part of either. In her conversation with Nina, Leila reflects on how Nina s tour ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. An Ecological Footprint Analysis On The Environment An ecological footprint analysis is a method to calculate the existing requirements created by each of us in the world s environmentally productive area through our forms of the consumption of food and additional goods and the distribution of built up ecologically decomposed terrain. Research allows us to use this ecological footprint analysis to record the existing food system s pressures on the environment. Ecological Footprint descriptions record the land of biologically beneficial soil and water required to manufacture the resources exhausted by a certain population and to take up its waste (Collins Flynn, 2015). The ecological footprint permits us to oversee a dominant risk to sustainability. An example of this could be the liquidation of the globe s natural capital as we utilize further resources than the environment can regenerate and generate more excess than the environment can reprocess (Collins Flynn, 2015). Examination exposes the prominent function performed by the food system within this liquidation and highlights how overwhelmingly a sustainable outlook depends on redesigning that routine. To create a single meal may take a large ecological footprint. The data presented by the Global Footprint Network, suggests that my current standard of living would require enough resources to sustain about 3.5 planet Earths (Ecological Footprint Quiz, 2016). This demonstrates why understand ecological foot printing is so important and how we can make efforts to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Public Art Essay Public Art Any drawn line that speaks about identity, dignity, and unity is art, (Chaz Bojorquey) is a statement that I agree with. Art is perceived differently from all people based on their culture, religion, personal taste, and many other factors. I believe that as long as what has been created is meaningful to either the creator or even to somebody that is viewing it, it should be considered art. Art in the public is a very controversial subject that brings up the important question of, Should public art be considered as real art, personally I think that it should be. I believe that the difference between art that is placed in a gallery and art that is visible by a community is the fact that what is acceptable in a gallery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another possibly positive outcome of art in the public could be the affect that it may have on the younger generations. If children are being raised in a community where they can see art on a daily basis then I believe it will have a positive effect on their lives by allowing them to learn how to appreciate art and what it has to offer. Art being in the public is also a way to grant people, who do not have enough money to enjoy the luxury of going to a gallery, the pleasure of seeing something aesthetically appealing on a regular basis. It also makes a town more interesting to visit; no one wants to visit a town with not much excitement. I once went to an art festival in Baltimore, Maryland, where they had green marbles ground up and put into the black top roads. This sight alone made my heart race and made this town more exciting. For towns that may have tourism it could be a way to attract to coming there or maybe even staying. Art can also be a controversial at the same time. There are many people who express their idea of art in a way that, in my opinion, should not be seen by the public. For example, many people consider paintings of naked women to be art, as do I, but I do not think it is appropriate for a painting of that nature to become a piece of public art. Another example is people who use profanity in their art. Swearing is not appropriate for a child to see painted on the side of their neighborhood buildings. The thing ... • 10. Conformity And Rebellion In The Lottery By Shirley Jackson In her short story, The Lottery, Shirley Jackson uses conformity and rebellion to convey the main theme, which is that blindly following tradition can have negative consequences. The village members show this through their actions while carrying out this lottery that they have done for generations. One character, Tessie, is the outlier who is a rebellion compared to the other villagers. Her character s actions contrast the other villagers, and make what they are doing seem much more irrational. It also shows how the majority refuses to hear what one who deviates from the norm has to say. This allows them to remain in a bubble and continue to live out the same customs year after year. The villagers conform to these traditions for the sole reason that it s been done for so many years before them. Long enough that they do not even remember certain aspects of it, like the tuneless chant and the ritual salute . Characters like Old Man Warner are symbolic of the older generation that clings without question to practices that may not continue to be beneficial for the community. The black box from which the slips of paper are drawn represents the villagers inability to change. The box is very old and in bad shape, but when it is suggested that the people make a new box, the subject is allowed to fade off without anything s being done. Further emphasizing the long history of both the box and the ritual, the narrator notes: There was a story that the present box had been made with some pieces of the box that had preceded it, the one that had been constructed when the first people settled down to make a village here. Old Man Warner, the oldest man in the village, also represents the theme of tradition. When Mr. and Mrs. Adams suggest to Warner that some other villages have already given up the lottery or are thinking about doing so, he replies with, Next thing you know, they ll be wanting to go back to living in caves . There s always been a lottery. So the other villages who are straying from tradition are dismissed right away and are seen as barbaric for not following the rules. The children are so conditioned to the normalcy of the tradition, that they are able to continue their games ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most U.S citizens how this amendment, or at least a summary of it, memorized. Citizens have the right to speak their mind as they sit fit, practice any religion, and protest. However, in modern times, it is understandable to see why this is not entirely true. Court decisions have put many restrictions on the liberties presented in the 1st amendment. A citizen cannot use religion as an excuse for sacrifices, or protest in violent fashions. The most controversial, and complicated, restrictions are those prohibiting certain kinds of speech. One of the Supreme is that obscenity is not protected under the freedom of speech. A problem quickly raise was: what, exactly, is obscenity? Under Miller v California, to be obscene a publication must, taken as whole, appeal to prurient interest, must contain patently offensive depictions or descriptions of specified sexual conduct, and on the whole have no serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value. • 12. Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel INTRODUCTION BIOGRAPHY Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel are considered possibly the most important female figures of the Romantic Era. Both women were friends living with the struggles of trying to make a name for themselves as musicians and composers while living in the shadows of their famous male family members: Robert Schumann and Felix Mendelssohn. Clara Schumann Clara Josephine Wieck was born on September 13, 1819 in Leipzig, Germany into a musical family. Her father, Friedrich Wieck, was a first rate piano teacher. Her mother, Marianne Tromlitz, was a soprano and one of Wieck s piano students. Clara Wieck s parents divorced when she was five years old, leaving her and her four brothers in her father s custody. Tromlitz married Adolf Bargiel and moved to Berlin, but she still kept in contact with Clara through letters. In 1824, rather than learning the alphabet or her numbers, Clara started studying piano, violin, singing, music theory, harmony, composition, and counterpoint primarily under the instruction of her father. When filing a protest at the agency level there are two different deadlines. You can either file before the closing of the bid or after. POWs throughout history have received harsh and brutal treatment. Prisoners received everything from torture to execution. Torture was against the Geneva Accords, but then again, so were many other acts that the NVA and Vietcong (VC) committed against American POWs. Torture sometimes only consisted of a few blows with a bamboo stick, to an all out beating until the prisoner was unconscious, to sometimes even worse acts of violence. Envied by citizens of countries where self expression is a right of some and stricken from others, we uphold this concept with defensive pride. However, we must ask ourselves if this freedom can ever go too far. When does lenience turn into naivety? If speech is abused so freely that it enslaves the minds of another should it become a privilege, rather than a right? In his essay On Racist Speech , Charles R. Some citizens opposed a restriction on speech simply because they feel it is not a complete upholding of American law. However, we must decide whether the restriction of free speech for protection is entirely acceptable or not at all because responses are often inherently hypocritical. It can be conducted either at home or a Buddhist temple and has no specific time or rules. Puja integrates the principle beliefs of Buddhism which are the three Jewels, Four Noble Truths, marks of existence and karma, samsara, nirvana through the elements of bowing, offering, chanting and meditation. It is with these elements that the principle beliefs of Buddhism are demonstrated. The three Jewels are an intrinsic part of Buddhism. It includes the Buddha who founded Buddhism, Dhamma which is the teachings of the Buddha and the Sangha which is the community of monks and nuns. This belief is demonstrated through bowing. Buddhists during Puja bow three times in front of the statue of the Buddha. This symbolises the three Jewels in Buddhism. An example of this is Tibetan Buddhists laying their whole body on the floor when bowing. This shows modesty, devotion and commitment to the three jewels. Without the element of bowing the three Jewels would not be acknowledged in the Puja. Since the three Jewels are the foundation of Buddhist beliefs, bowing is an integral part of Puja. I had my first crush on this man of a boy that I never had a chance with, and still never will. He was the school sweetheart and almost everyone had a crush on him. What I learned is that I do not categorize her as a femme fatale. A femme for certain but I do not believe that she fits that fatale archetype. Per myth, her father was Zeus or Tyndareus, her mother was Leda or Nemesis. Her father, now King Tyndareus (not Zeus) had to create the Oath of Tyndareus due to the overwhelming number of suitors that wanted to marry Helen. Fast forward to Paris and The Apple of Discord and Aphrodite sending him to most beautiful woman on earth, Helen, her subsequent abduction or seduction, thus causing the Trojan War. Now the legend of Helen s conception is where it gets strange and perverse, Zeus either raped Leda or Nemesis in the form of a swan or she Leda was impregnated by Tyndareus. If Leda was the mother she had two eggs (yes like a swan), and out of the two eggs came Helen and her siblings however if Nemesis was the mother, she was so mad with Zeus for the rape that she ... I chose this piece due to the fact that I believe that it illustrates again how Helen cannot be a femme fatale. Helen is yet again a pawn, without a voice in her own life. Beauty is certainly a value however men make all the decisions. I believe that both works expound upon the understanding of Helen of Troy, albeit the poetry of that time is hard for me to decipher. In Homer s Iliad, I believe Helen is blamed for the war and it casts her more as the femme fatale, not just the femme. The Human Genome Project The Human Genome Project (HGP) began in 1990 with funding from the Department of Energy and the National Institutes of Health with the goal of decoding the human genome. Researchers from across the world are working in conjunction to understand the sequence of amino acid base pairs and how they interact with one another to elicit specific genetic reactions. Once the decoding of the genome takes place, scientists will be able to develop individual treatment plans and understand a number of diseases. Research has found that there are over 3 billion amino acid base pairs which make up 20,000 genes. Of these 20,000 genes, the human genetic code is defined by forty six tightly packed bunches called chromosomes. Due to the vast array of amino acid base pairs, the project has taken over ten years to complete the sequencing of the specific parts, but the task of understanding how the parts interact one another and the influence they have on diseases has yet to be accomplished. The genetic material in chromosomes defines human attributes and is developed from proteins. Proteins are a series of amino acids, which are strung together, and the unique combination of nucleic acids (A, T, C, and G) in the protein give specific directions to the cell to produce certain combinations of amino acids. This process creates proteins varying in form and function based upon the series of amino acids. The differing proteins cause numerous actions in the body to be carried out, and are ... • 42. Theories Of Structuralism In Literature Structuralism and its different approaches to literature Structuralism was developed in France in 1950 s as an approach of reading literary texts. Structuralism seeks to understand that no element can be understood separately. It attempts to understand a work of art in the context of the larger structures they are part of. Structuralism is a way of thinking and activities which is chiefly concerned with the perceptions and descriptions of structures. In this regard, Terence Hawkes says: The full significance of any entity cannot be perceived unless and until it is integrated into the surface of which it forms a part.1 One can derive from Terence Hawkes view that structuralism would refer to a system or body of principles which is derived from the belief that any phenomenon is a structure made up of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Griemas work Structural Semantic (1966) is an important work of structuralist narratology. He develops structural semantics based on Saussaure s notion of binary opposition which he has called structural semiotics. For Griemas there always exists opposition to generate meaning. He declares that there are various sematic units that work in opposition. He called these as seme. And meaning comes out in the opposition between semes, for example, old/young; black/white; boy/girl etc. These semes function as actants (structural unit, neither a character nor a specific narrative event) to produce narrative. Griemas semes are based on Saussurean notion that form the basic formula, the rules and the underlying structure of language (langue). The semes express themselves as narrative and plots and stories in contexts (parole). Thus the semes in different combinations are stated in particular contexts to generate stories in particular contexts. In literary theory, the basic structure of the production of meaning through binary opposition is called signification. We often find the dual opposition or semes in a text or any piece of ... The United States held two sections on the beach code named Omaha Beach, and Utah Beach, while Great Britain, France, and Canada the other three sections of the beach. These beaches code names were Gold Beach, Juno Beach, and Sword Beach (Groff, 294). Many French, British, Canadian, and American soldiers died before even reach the beaches of Normandy. German machine guns and artillery were mowing down allied soldiers, many generals died in the landing so lower ranking official such as privates had to step up just to rally the soldiers together for an advance to the shores (Capa, 294). Any kind of artillery fire fired by the allies during the invasion did not hit and was very unsuccessful in the invasion because it was really foggy and wanted to be cautious and not fire upon any of their own men which resulted in the artillery not helping at all during the invasion. Another setback for the invasion was the strong ocean tides. The strong tides of the Atlantic Ocean pushed the Allied landing boats and supply ships far off course from there landing point (Gibbs, 20). Many infantry men began to take cover behind sunken friendly landing boats, random ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Description Of The s Exchange Principle Introduction Locard s exchange principle states that every contact leaves a trace indicating that trace evidence left by the perpetrator will always be found in the scene of crime (1). These trace evidence include hair follicles, to sweat, to skin cells and footwear impression, etc. They are valuable information that can incriminate a person and enable the law to carry out appropriate punishment. The value of these evidence will however decrease if they are not treated or processed appropriately (2). Footwear impressions are marks made by the outer surface of the sole of a footwear (outsole for shoes) (3). These marks are distinctive patterns that belong to specific shoe types and manufacturers (2,3). Therefore, an impression that found at a crime scene can be used to identify the shoe type and or specific shoe. Footwear impression identification is based on matching random individual wear characteristics formed on the shoe by its wearer during its life (2,3). Therefore, footwear impression analysis can be proven difficult due to the large number of footwear outsole pattern designs (2,3). These impressions form when the footwear is pressed on a surface and the outsole pattern is transferred onto that surface (2, 3). Footwear impressions are classed into two main groups, two dimensional (2D) and three dimensional (3D). The 3D prints are those that are found on substrates such as snow or mud while 2D prints are those formed on floors or carpets (3). Useful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Biochemical Test E. Coli I had discovered that my unknown microbe is Escherichia coli (E. coli). After performing various biochemical tests E. coli seemed to fit my microbe the best with only having two misguided biochemical tests that had not fit the data. The tests that were performed included the MRVP test, catalase test, oxidase test, nitrate test, citrate slant test, phenylalanine deaminase test, urea test, SIM test, TSI test, and starch test. These tests helped me discover my microbe along with a few other tests. The first biochemical test I performed was the MRVP test. This test is known as the Methyl Red and Vages Proskauer test. It is a broth containing peptone, buffers, and dextrose or glucose. My microbe was Methyl Red positive and Vages Proskauer negative. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This test is used to see if the microbe can hydrolyzes urea to ammonia and carbon dioxide. When there is an alkaline environment the color turns to pink. Turning pink would present a positive result. The SIM test tested negative for sulfur reduction presenting no sign of the color black, positive for indole production presenting the color red, and positive for motility. Sulfur reduction is a test used to differentiate enteric bacteria. The indole production test differentiates Enterobacteriaceae. For testing a wide variety of organisms the motility test is used. The TSI test stands for triple sugar iron agar, my results had turned out positive presenting a yellow slant and yellow butt (acid/acid). The microbe was a lactose fermenter. The test is used to see the fermentation of lactose, glucose, and sucrose. The last test I had done was the starch hydrolysis. I had gotten a positive result when the result should have been negative. A halo may or may not be seen with the presents of iodine. When a halo is present it is positive, starch is present. When a halo is not present it means there is an absence of starch. When the media is positive it means that extracellular enzymes are capable of diffusing into the medium. Martin Luther King Jr Influence For centuries, African Americans and indigenous peoples have been overlooked, discriminated against, and seen as inferior for one reason: the colour of their skin. Over time, society has evolved in many ways due to many people s courage and determination, notably Martin Luther King Jr a Baptist Minister and the leader of multiple civil rights protests and movements. In Australia, Aboriginal people were granted voting rights before Federation in 1901, but only if they had served in the army and were over 21. It wasn t until 1962 that all Aboriginal Australians were allowed to vote. In 1924, all Native Americans were granted the right to vote, regardless of cultural connection. But to name all his massive political triumphs in order of their occurrence I can: King was chosen to head the Montgomery Improvement Association, he became the youngest recipient of the Spingarn Medal, he became president of a group known as the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, he led a nonviolent army to protest against discrimination in Albany, he campaigned to achieve the desegregation of many public facilities in Birmingham, he received a Nobel Peace Prize, he led a drive to register black voters in Selma, Alabama, he conducted a five day march from Selma to the capitol in Montgomery, he organized protests against the city s discrimination in housing and employment, he inspired and planned the Poor People s Campaign, a march on Washington, D.C., and was ...
