Religion In Ancient Egypt And Mesopotamia
Religion in the ancient civilizations of Egypt and Mesopotamia played a significant role in
developing and organizing the society. Based on the common belief of the world s divine creation,
both civilizations had regular rituals and ceremonies to honor the supernatural beings. In rituals and
ceremonies, the cult was expressed as the manifestation of components that symbolized the divine
such as the cult images, temples, and shrines. Since religion was an important aspect in the people s
daily lives, it also had an impact on the ruling system in the two civilizations. Even though Ancient
Egyptand Mesopotamia have similar foundational beliefs about the cult, different cultic practices

Similar to Egyptians, Mesopotamians were polytheists and their gods created the natural
phenomena. However, the temple in each city state mainly worshipped a local god and was the
central power in the city. The Mesopotamians ascribed human s appearance and characteristics to
represent their deities. The presence of the cult image in the temple indicated the presence of the
deity in the city. Each cult image of the local god was placed in the city s largest and most
sophisticated sanctuary. For instance, the cult image of Marduk Babylon s city deity resided in
the Esagila temple. Mesopotamians believed the shrine of the Esagila temple was the heart of the
universe. According to the inscriptions in the Steinplatten, the cult statue, the walls and the
ceilings of the sanctuary were plated in gold. In practice of the daily ritual, the servants or priests
of the temple cleansed and dressed the cult statue in new clothes. Since the priests directly served
the patron city god, they were respected by common people. Additionally, the inscriptions from
king Neriglissar s cylinder revealed that he was submissive to the gods and thus the king s power
was shared to the priests and the local government. Local government governed the city and
controlled the economy on behalf of the city s god. Consequently, the cult s control over the
economy and society was limited inside the city state. Ancient Egyptians and Mesopotamians

Alicia Panganiban Essay
I would like to express a hearty recommendation for Alicia Panganiban for the American
Association of University of Women (AAUW) International Fellowships for her Master of
Theology program at Princeton. Since my father, Cullen I K Story taught at Princeton for ca. 25
years, I know the area and the school very well. I also had the privilege of teaching with him in
the summer language program many years ago. Her training at Princeton will greatly benefit
Alicia as well as her career goal of ministering to girls and women, especially in her culture where
women play subordinate roles to men. In my estimation Alicia will well represent the commitment
and thrust of PTS as well as the mission of AAUW. I have known Alicia for about six years, both
as a student and a teaching assistant. I also consider her as a personal friend. ... Show more content

She has always been kind, encouraging, positive of and supportive, both of me as her professor
and the students she helped over the years in which she served as a Teaching Assistant. During her
prior ministry, she discovered her passion for teaching, which was then stirred as she studied as a
student, and then as she helped mentor students in our Masters programs. During her program at
Regent, she has been an exceptional Teaching Assistant for New Testament courses, Unity of the
Bible, and several Greek and hermeneutics courses. I have been impressed by the vitality and
vibrancy of her Christian faith; she consistently prays with and for students and seeks to find
opportunities to assist students in their various life challenges. Her background in the Philippines

Analysis Of Exelon ( Rivastigmine Tartrate )
Exelon (Rivastigmine Tartrate) is a hydrogen tartrate salt of Rivastigmine that acts as a reversible
cholinesterase inhibitor. As a cholinesterase, it is administered in an increasing amount over a set
period of time. Through the inactivation of butyrlcholinesterase and acetylcholinesterase, Exelon
prevents the breakdown of the chemical acetylcholine which is thought to be important in
memory, thinking, and reasoning. Due to these capabilities, it is frequently employed to combat
the effects of dementia due to Alzheimer s and Parkinson s diseases where patients tend to have a
lower concentration of acetylcholine. Rivastigmine is also under evaluation in clinical trials as a
treatment for cocaine dependence. It can be employed both orally and as a transdermal patch. The
patch is more popular due to fewer side effects. In addition, Exelon has a size of about 250Da per
moleculeНѕ this is small relative to the benchmark of 500Da for transdermal transfer. Its small
size combined with its lipophillic and hydrophilic nature makes it ideal for topical administration.
Rivastigmine has a halflife of about 1.5 hours and when taken in a transdermal patch, it has a lag
phase of between 0.5 and 1 hour. When taken orally, it has a bioavailability that is linear until
about 3mg at 40%. It then follows a nonlinear pharmacokinetic model, as its bioavailability will
increase with an increase in dosageНѕ when administered via transdermal patch, approximately
50% of the active ingredient is

Music And Harmony In Music
According to Goodall, harmony is a word that borrowed by other language to show the well being,
human warm, agreement or friendliness. In music, harmony is the vertical of pitch with a part of
several pitches sounded at the same time. It unlike rhythm and melody as it was not part of music
from the beginning but it is an upstart. Harmony combined pitches into chords to please our ears.
Harmony is a magic compare to other elements of music. The tonal gravitational forces for harmony
are more complex and powerful than the melody. It contributes to the effect of the motion in music
and it allows the component to manipulate the human emotion. Besides, harmony is music coming

Drone is the constant note just like deum verum the drone just follows the melody and played
parallel. However, this system gradually disappeared and new system is beginning. For an example,
Sumer is icumen in has special drone worked independently from the tune. When there are two
different notes played one after another, it is the beginning of chord progression. Chord progression
is the heart of western harmony that the harmony does not stay static and it moves. Whenever the
note in the melody collides with the two supporting drone, three note chord is created and three
note chord is the basic of western harmony.
Furthermore, harmony also contributes to the structural design of music. The arrangement of
melodic lends itself to hierarchical design more noticeably than does harmony. This is because
repetition of patterned material more obvious in melody then it is in harmony. The pattern of

What Is The Purpose Of So Far Away
Going through the loss of a loved one is always a great hardship, and affects more people than
ever imaginable. It gives a feeling of anguish and despair that cannot easily be healed. So Far
Away is an alternative metal song performed by Avenged Sevenfold, and is a tribute to their
deceased drummer James Owen Sullivan. It is of lyrical and thematic perfection, accompanied
with expertly played instrumentals and powerful vocals that solidify capturing the feeling that
comes with the loss of a loved one. This song is an impactful experience for anyone who listens,
if they know of its purpose or not. It displays a message further beyond their tribute to James, and
shows how loss affects everyone. When somebody loses a person that was close to... Show more

People may question how they will keep going in life without that person by their side. This
song was written shortly after the band s drummer passed away due to an intentional drug
overdose. It was written entirely as a tribute to their late friend and how he was an important part
in their lives. Three days before he passed, he wrote and recorded one last song named Fiction.
This song was James suicide note, and was originally named Death. These two songs go hand in
hand with one another and are both incredibly impactful on anybody. They show the suffering
and pain that James went through in his late life, and his choice to end that pain. So Far Away
not only displays these feelings of grief from the band, but also shows how somebody is
appreciated in their own life. As it is shown that the rest of Avenged Sevenfold loved James
wholeheartedly. This song shows how so many people genuinely care about each other, just as the
band loved James. Many people believe that they have no worth in their life and that nobody cares
about them. It reminds people how much they truly are worth, and how much people care about
them. So Far Away is a reminder that no matter the person, they are valued by somebody in their
life. It shows

Implementation Of The Reporting And Subsequent
Implementation of the reporting and subsequent use of pharmacogenomic variants of significance
will take a multistep process, and require leadership and buy in to optimize implementation. The
following necessary steps have been described to successfully implement preemptive
Pharmacogenomics testing.2 First, there must be a systematic process for genotyping and for
migrating test results into the EHR. There must be a permissive institutional infrastructure that will
support clinical implementation. There must be a governing committee (usually a subcommittee of
the P T committee), which provides oversight regarding which test results are part of the EHR, and
which drugs are linked to CDS alerts. This committee must have a... Show more content on

Stakeholders will include clinical informatics and bioinformatics experts, providers (both specialists
such as genetic counselors and geneticists, and generalists), pharmacists, information security and
privacy personnel, and laboratorians.
The process of developing the EHR interface and CDS content will need to involve users, decision
makers, and evaluators. The users will need to be asked about the tasks they do on a daily basis to
provide patient care, and about the clinical decisions that would benefit from computer decision
support.
Stakeholder/users should be surveyed to find out their needs, by asking questions in the
following areas: What information do you need that you don t have? Where in the EHR would
pharmacogenomic information be located? Would a link out to a curated definitive information
source help? Or would you prefer a more concise summary linked to the moment of prescribing?
Or both? How will you decide which drugs gene pairs to implement alerts for in the EHR? What
process will be used to update the system? Who will be responsible? How will new genomic
results be put into the EHR, and converted to phenotypes with defined actions? Who will make
sure that the pharmacogenomic actions are kept up to date with the rapidly advancing field? What
do you want the CDS tool to look like? What level of alerts do you

An Essay About My Cultural Identity
What is my cultural identity? Personally, I don t think I am completely assured on what my cultural
identity is, but I can do my best on explaining it. However, I won t get started on that yet, first I ll
explain the occasion of me learning about my identity. At almost the beginning of the year, it was
announced in our English class that we would be doing an essay on our cultural identities. When
my teacher announced this I thought to myself, What in the world is a cultural identity, or even my
cultural identity? In these months, we have gotten to learn the definition of culture, and what it
means to us, individually., I believe that culture means a group of people that share the same
customs, way of life, and beliefs. Also, over these last couple of months we have been reading
texts all about people knowing and understanding their cultural identities, meanwhile I still didn
t understand my own. All I know is that I was born on February 11, 2002, I like movies and
music, and my mom is from Chile and my Dad is from Virginia. Now that didn t feel like enough
for me to write on, but then I started thinking about all of the cultural differences that my parents
have had raising me as a person, and how those have all combined to make me. In my short 15
years of life, the culture clashes have sometimes affected me on my thoughts and opinions,
which I ll talk about later on. As well as how movies and music have affected my perspectives
and opinions. Now there are a lot of aspects that make me as a person, but the one I want to
develop on the most would be the fact that I have been raised by two almost completely different
cultures, my dad being raised in a more conservative setting, while my mom was raised in a more
carefree, but still careful setting, but they both lived in similar living conditions, not having a lot of
money, but they found ways in their times to overcome those issues and cope with them. Which
makes them similar on how they have raised me and my two siblings, but still quite different in
other aspects. I found this part of me, with the combined cultures of my parents, to be very
conflicting at times because when my dad would talk about different topics, my mother would just

is fenced in, any other structure inside the fence is considered an extension of the dwelling, even
if those buildings are not used as living quarters. If there is, for example, a farmhouse, a barn, and
a tool shed that all sit within one large fence, the barn and the tool shed are considered part of the
dwelling even though they are not used as living quarters and, if a defendant breaks and enters into
the barn or the tool shed with the intent of committing a felony, he can be convicted of burglary.

In such cases, one party s breaking and entering into the other party s living space at night with the
intent of committing a felony will constitute burglary.
Many jurisdictions have also eliminated the element of dwelling from the burglary definition and
consider burglary the entering onto any premises with the intent to commit a felony therein.
As we have said, the breaking and entering must be done at night in order to qualify as burglary.
However, the breaking and entering do not have to be done on the same night. That is to say, the
defendant can create the opening in the dwelling on one night and then use that opening to gain
entry on another night. Please remember, however, that, as we said before, there must be a causal
relationship between the breaking and entering so that, even though the breaking and entering can
occur on different nights, the breaking must be the means that the defendant uses to gain access to
the dwelling.
Many jurisdictions have also eliminated the element of night from the burglary definition and
consider burglary the entering onto any premises at any time with the intent to commit a felony

Essay on Two Forms of Journalism
Two Forms of Journalism Recent events such as the tsunami disaster (where blogs helped in
covering the enormous size of the story), the war in Iraq (where blogs help to present both
opinions of all parties involved), the Dan Rather s scandal, a CBS Evening News anchor who
reported as authentic a series of forged documents about George W. Bush (where blogs were highly
instrumental in exposing him) have all contributed to the growing popularity of citizen journalism.
So, why is there a recent growth in popularity of citizen journalism? Is it because of the scandals
that has eroded the credibility of traditional journalism or is out of touch with today s media
landscape? And does any of it eventually mean the decline of traditional... Show more content on

Another incidence includes the fabrication and plagiarisms in numerous articles by Jayson Blair,
a Times reporter, who was exposed in 2003 after his article: After effects: The Missing; Family
Waits, Now Alone, for a Missing Soldier , in which he incorporated passages from an article that
was published earlier in The San Antonio Express.
Traditional journalism has also prided itself as being an objective source of media, but pure
objectivity is just a mirage. The limitation of human nature causes us to be biased, as we all have
opinions which we directly or indirectly express in our communication, Added to this the financial,
time and area space causes journalism to be subjective to a certain degree. But, another question
arises, is subjectivity, an expression of one s opinions, necessarily bad? After all opinions give
meaning to facts. One may argue that the presentation of opinions in the media would preclude
people from making their own judgments, but aren t peoply independent beings with a mind of
their own?
However, from the standpoint of traditional journalism where the audience has a trusted
relationship with the media source or media person it might not be such good idea to be subjective
mostly because of the certain sense of loyalty of the audience member towards his/her particular

The Royal 22nd Regiment
Although I had been to Canada several times throughout my life I ve rarely had the opportunity to
travel outside of Ontario, only having gone to Montreal once or twice. QuГ©bec City seemed
both intriguing as well as slightly concerning due to the predominant language of QuГ©bec being
French, a language which I speak very little of. For me, as I read the Itinerary of the trip the one
visit that stood out was the Citadel. The Citadel intrigued me due to the fact that QuГ©bec City
was one of only two cities in North America that is still surrounded by fortifications, which meet at
the strategically located militarybase. Also the idea that this fortress had at one point in time

incredible buildings throughout the Citadel is the Citadel memorial which is an area where

Summary Of J. Smart s Extreme Vs. Restricted Utilitarianism
J.J.C. Smart
Who is J.J.C. Smart and what does he teaches us about utilitarianism? However, after reading
Extreme vs Restricted utilitarianism by J.J.C. Smart, we can tell that there s two kinds of
utilitarianism s. The first one is extreme utilitarianism. The second one is restricted utilitarianism.
However, in my opinion extreme utilitarianism is the right act. In addition, Smart was the defender
of extreme utilitarianism. These are mainly what J.J.C. Smart talks about in his work. First and
foremost, after reading Extreme vs Restricted utilitarianism by J.J.C. Smart, we can tell that these
two kinds of utilitarianism s are somewhat similar but not as much. First, he opens by separating

However, Extreme (ACT) utilitarianism follows rules of thumb and their guidelines. In other words
Smart states that rules of thumb promote particular actions that are very important to people. In
addition, according to Smart, rules of thumb can be broken. These are all the interesting facts about
rules of thumb and what they are and what they mean. To wrap it all up, according to smart, the
main difference between extreme and restricted utilitarianism is that restricted utilitarians hold that
conformity to rules determines right action and extreme utilitarians do not. In addition, according
to extreme utilitarianism, if someone does a morally right action, then they do not commit
themselves to one version or another. On the other hand, smart mentions moral rules and how they
are rules of thumb; well what he means by that is that rules of thumb are rules that can be useful
but do not always tell us what we should do. I will now talk about my opinion about both
Restricted and Extreme utilitarianism s. To me they are very much similar and there is a very little
difference between both theories. I say that because when it comes to both articles, at the end they
both promote the most utility for the majority. In other word they both go there different way but at
the end of the day they are both the same thing and not much of a difference is

Why Did Texas Fight In Civil War Essay
Why fight?
Binding a state to conformity, can only result in uprising a revolt against society. Multiple cases can
fit this situation, including the infamous civil war and Texas contribution towards it. Many
situations lead to Texas rebelling against the union; all including things like the North and South
having disputes over slavery, disagreements on the right to secede, and overall a domestic battle
for power. These incidents led to an incredibly enraged Texas, making one ponder: why did Texas
fight in the civil war? Well, Texas fought in the civil war because of their love for Texas, to defend
their state rights, and preserve Slavery.
The first reason was their love for Texas. Many soldiers fought in the civil war, one of them being

As Texas State Gazette mentioned No state can force another state either to remain in it or
withdraw from it ; this was later supported by O.M Roberts, president of the Texas Secession
Convention, when he said the true theory of our national government as an associations of
sovereignties not a mass of people in one social compact. (document C). Each statement supports
the fact that the united states should grant each state their own power. By doing this it gives
people popular sovereignty, this means more individual freedom and a happier government. Texas
felt the need to not have to follow a set of rules created by a federal system. The Union deprived
Texas of this right because it wanted to stay in control, this ended up giving the Union Hitlerian
aspects which incensed Texas.
The most important reason why the Texas fought in the civil war was to preserve slavery. Texas
believed that white men established the government and African Americans did not (document B).
Texans wanted power, and maintaining slavery would not only bring power but and economic
uprising. Since 182,566 people were enslaved in 1860, this being 30% of the Texas population
(document A), many Texans used slavery for farming and cultivating crops. Slavery was key in
sustaining the Economy. It s simply like a math equation, slavery plus crops equals economy, take

Mel Brooks Blazing Saddles
Mel Brooks satirical western comedy Blazing Saddles is the movie that changes a genre, by
heavily making fun of it. From the start there is that initial good guy and bad guy mentality, with
the hero ultimately saving the day. A wealthy white man wants to grab a spot of land to build his
railroad through, however there is a town in the way. He sets forth to taking the town until two
unlikely heroes come to the rescue and wittingly save the day. Ultimately throughout the plot there
are hilarious commentaries on things that just don t make sense. The black slaves are always
happy and cracking jokes, and their masters are always portrayed as uncivilized uneducated
children. Additionally, the sheriff and hero of the story, Bart, is black himself.... Show more content

The movie starts with a very serious and solemn Western song, typical of the era. Almost
immediately following is the nigger work song, which starkly contrasts and sets the tone for the
movie. Ultimately, even after the movie reaches its resolution and we learn that it is on a
Hollywood set, the score still remains Western aside from the movie premier sound effects.
Another thing that didn t necessarily make sense was the cowboy saving the day. Typically, as
we have seen through Buffalo Bill namely, the cowboy swoops in, shoots the bad guy, gets the
girl, and uses his strength to ride off on his trusty stallion. Here Bart concocts a rather intelligent
plan, rallies the townsfolk to execute the plan together, and doesn t really get the girl. (Truly he
got the girl a few minutes earlier in the movie but that is an entirely different can of worms). The
movie as a whole, understandably, just doesn t fit in with my idea of the Wild West. As a
comedy, and a hilarious one at that, it just doesn t keep any sense of realism. As Seth Macfarlane
notes in his movie A Million Ways to Die in the West, the West is a treacherous place with murder
and disease and

Brave New World Vs Affluenza Analysis
Having read Brave New World and Affluenza, I believe that the two authors have distinctly different
views on the idea of reaching enlightenment. While Huxley sees the possibility for philosophical
enlightenment as something only the Alphas, or the elites of the world, can attain, de Graaf
believes that anyone can reach philosophical enlightenment. Furthermore, Huxley argues that the
idea of even attempting to enlighten the masses would be a fruitless endeavor. de Graaf, on the
other hand, encourages his readers to become enlightened and spread the enlightenment to others.

It is achieved by making the personal choice to change your life style. However, the choices that
one makes to reach enlightenment will not be easy. By cutting back on materialistic spending, it
becomes more apparent which goods are necessary and which are not. The false advertising will
no longer create pressure to consume goods that are not necessary. Once people are able to take
a step back from the highly materialistic life, they will have more time to improve themselves and
allot time for other things they enjoy. People will be able to add meaning and fulfillment back
into their lives. Escaping from this false consciousness will create a sense of freedom and such a
sense of lightness (Graaf, 380). The people who reach enlightenment will then be able to spread
enlightenment by showing others that there is happiness in living a life without constantly
consuming unnecessary items. In Affluenza, the enlightened individuals in society do not suffer

Analysis Of A Streetcar Named Desire
Practice Essay: Emilia Kelly
The two texts of Enduring Love and A Streetcar named Desire show privilege of one way of
perceiving the world over the other in their conclusions. Ian McEwan s Enduring Love, shows
favour of Joe s scientific and rational view but also demonstrates that it is flawed. Similarly,
Tennessee Williams shows that realism in inevitable but is not always desirable in the play A
Streetcar Names Desire. Both texts explore explore the responses of their protagonists of a crisis
with Ian McEwan s post modern novel Enduring Love showing the destruction of Joe Rose s world
following a hot air ballooning tragedy through his scientific perspective. While the southern gothic
play of A Streetcar Named Desireexplores the perception of Blanche following life s tragedies of
the death of her husband. There are many similarities and differences within the text with Enduring
Love s Joe and A Streetcar Named Desire s Stanley both representing the favoured perception of
logic and reality, while characters such as Blanche and Jed expressing the less favourable
perception of fantasy and delusion. Other characters of Clarissa and Stella, have their perception
shaped by their emotional relationships that still result in unfavourable outcomes.
In McEwan s conclusion of Enduring Love, Joe s perception of logic and science is presented to
the reader as the privilege view in the novel. This scientific perception was shown throughout the
novel with his view being all the

Main Characters In Homer s Odyssey And Virgil s Aeneid
[insert title]
In both Homer s Odyssey and Virgil s Aeneid, the main characters of each poem, Odysseus and
Aeneas, travel to the underworld in search of guidance and the foretelling of fate. In the Odyssey,
this scene is being retold by Odysseus to the Phaiakians, while in the Aeneid, the reader is told the
scene from a third person point of view. Each poet s depiction of the underworld has different
purposes within the text. I argue that Homer s depiction is meant for Odysseus to entertain the
Phaiakians, while Virgil s depiction is meant to instate values within Aeneas. Although both texts
contain many of the same scenes within the underworld, the differing methods of narration between
the texts, and the added details within the Aeneid, greatly change the effects of the scene on
characters within the poems. These differences are important because Odysseus must gain favor
from the Phaiakians, and Aeneas must fulfill his destiny. To support this argument, I will first
discuss each character s journey in the underworld, the descriptions of the underworld, and finally
the purpose within each text.
On each character s journey to and through the underworld, they go seeking one person but have
other experiences that shape the characters and their future journey. Odysseus has been
instructed by Circe to seek Tiresias, and Aeneas was visited by his father in a dream and ordered
to see him in the underworld. Early in the journey for both characters, they encounter an issue
with the unburied dead. Aeneas is told by Sibyl that a friend lies dead... bear him first to his
place of rest (Virgil, Book 6, Line 179 182) before heading to the underworld. This shows the
importance of burying the dead and this is one of the earliest values that Aeneas learns on his
journey. Aeneas must protect and respect his men, even in their deaths. The first soul that
Odysseus encounters in the underworld is that of Elpenor, his dead companion that had not yet
been buried under earth of the wide ways (Homer, Book 11, Line 52). Elpenor begs Odysseus to
burn me there with all my armor that belongs to me, and to give him a proper grave (H, B11,
L74). Odysseus later grants Elpenor s wishes and returns to Aeaea to give him a

The Impacts of Overfishing in the Pacific Ocean
Research on Overfishing in the Pacific Ocean: The demand for food across the globe continues
to increase as the human population continues to increase. For human populations, particularly
people in the poorest countries across the globe, fish is an important source of nourishment and
food given the increase in the demand for food. As a result, fisheries catches represent a huge
export of energy and mass that can no longer be utilized by trophic levels that are higher than
those fished. Since fishing has been used one of the major ways by humans to meet the ever
increasing demand for food, it has contributed to widespread overfishing. The widespread
overfishing has in turn resulted in the decrease in the global catch of fish. Furthermore, increased
overfishing has become a huge threat to every species in the ocean and has largely contributed to
the huge migrations by marine mammals in their quest for the left over fish. While the use of fish
by human beings is not wrong, the whole eco system in the ocean can be severely impacted when
human take too much. In order to deal with this issue effectively, it s important to examine its
causes, effects, and proposed solutions. The Trend of Overfishing across the Globe: According to
the findings of research, approximately 50 percent of commercial marine species have been
overfished in the past five decades (Srinivasan, Cheung, Watson Sumaila, p.1). The increase in
fisheries catches across the globe has also been fueled by

Life Is Beautiful Movie
Movies play a huge role in our history. Fact based or fictional, realistic or fantastic, history
movies shape the way people think about the past (Metzger). Some examples of great historical
films are Hidden Figures, Forrest Gump, Gandhi, and Dances with Wolves. Although these films
provided a glimpse of the past, no other movie was as artistic as the film Life is Beautiful . The
movie was a fairytale trapped in a historical period filled with misery and survival, which was why I
chose it. Life is Beautiful is a wonderful masterpiece that provides a glimpse of the Holocaustand
the indomitability of humanity even in the midst of inhumanity.
The film was set in the late 1930s of Arezzo, Italy. The main character, Guido (Roberto Benigni), is
an enthusiastic Jewish Italian man who moved to the city to open a bookstore and help his uncle,
Eliseo (Giustino Durano), in his Grand Hotel. While Guido is in the city he encounters a non
Jewish Italian woman named Dora (Nicoletta Braschi), who he falls in love with and uses his
charm to win her over. The first half of the movie hosted a series of events that demonstrated
what an extraordinary character Guido was that not only did Dora fall in love with but the
audience did as well. At Dora s engagement ceremony, Guido whisked her away on a green horse
ensuring that they will live together happily. Eventually, they have a son named Giosue
(Giorgio Cantarini) together. However, their blissful life is interrupted by World War II and the
declaration of racial laws. The second half of the movie hosted a series of sacrificial events by
Guido and Dora. On Giosue fifth birthday, he was taken away with his father and uncle to a
concentration camp. Dora, refusing to be left behind, sacrifice herself by insisting to go to the
camp as well. While in the concentration camp Guido made sacrifices to protect his son from the
vile truth, by turning their situation into a game, and he also made sacrifices to ensure his wife
that he and Giosue were okay. In order to keep his son interested in the game, Guido told Giosue
that the grand prize was a tank. Ironically, at the end of the film, an American tank coincidently
came to save Giosue. The film writer/directed, Roberto Benigni,

Efficient Embedded Learning for IoT Devices
Submitted by: Rohan N. Dhamdhere, rnd7528@g.rit.edu
I.Introduction
The Internet of Things (IoT) helps us sense meaningful data from the physical world. In recent
years, its ability to sense the data has increased tremendously, which increases the prospects of IoT
applications useful to humans. Machine learning will play a big part to help IoT derive sense from
raw data and deliver useful information.
A simple quantitative analysis is done on two broad categories of applications a smart glass that
uses a deep learning network to perform real time recognition on video stream that it captures, and
a server cluster that trains the model associated with the deep network. The analysis showed
differences between the computational capabilities of current systems and the needs levied by
these application cases. The authors hypothesize that deep learning will be one of the important
part of the computing platforms and will be extensively deployed. The Paper discusses the
following potential procedures to improve the efficiency of deep learning for embedded computing
systems accelerators for deep learning, approximate computing and neuromorphic circuits based on
emerging post CMOS devices.

The Synonyms Of Ragregation And Racism
Racism and segregation are two different things but often not completely known about fully.
Racism is the prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different
race based on the belief that one s own race is superior. Synonyms of racism include racial
discrimination, racialism, racial prejudice, xenophobia, chauvinism, bigotry, and casteism, a few
of these synonyms were unknown to me up until now. The definition of segregation in history is
the separation or isolation of a race, class, or ethnic group by enforced or voluntary residence in
a restricted area, by barriers to social intercourse, by separate educational facilities, or by other
discriminatory means. The worst part was that the legal system and the police supported
segregation. The Jim Crow Laws were a major part in segregation. While the most widely known
group for racismis the KKK, The Ku Klux Klanwith their most known violent act, lynching. By
1914, Louisiana required separate entrances for blacks and whites. In 1915, Oklahoma
segregated telephone booths, 1920 in Mississippi made it a crime to publish arguments or
suggestions in favor of social equalities between whites and blacks. Arkansas had segregated
racetracks , Texas prohibited integrated boxing matches, meaning there would have been no
Mayweather vs Mcgregor, Kentucky required separate schools and no textbook would be issued
to a black while they were prohibiting interracial marriage. New Orleans created segregated red
light districts for white and black prostitutes. Also in Georgia, black ministers were stopped for
performing marriages between white couples. As the United States entered World War II, the South
was a fully segregated society, from schools, to restaurants, hotels, train cars, waiting rooms,
elevators, public bathrooms, colleges, hospitals, cemetery, swimming pools, drinking fountains,
prisons, and even churches. There were churches for whites and churches for blacks, but never one
church for both. The Jim Crow Laws was a group of laws and customs that enforced racial
segregation and discriminationthroughout the United States from the late 1900 s to the 1960 s ,
especially in the South. The laws did not mention one race in particular, but

Effects Of The Battle Of Waterloo
The Battle of Waterloo and its Effect on Today s Artillery
Napoleon Bonaparte, one of the world s greatest military strategists, led the French at the Battle of
Waterloo. During his time as a General, even in defeat, his tactics in the way he used artillery were
beyond reproach. His successes and errors made throughout the Battle of Waterloohad a direct
effect on how we use artillery today.
The Battle of Waterloo, which took place on 18 June 1815, was the final battle of the Napoleonic
wars and ended Napoleon s reign as emperor. The French marched into Belgium with 70,000 troops
and 256 artillery pieces (Stevenson, n.d.). They were met by the British Army led by, the Duke of
Wellington, Arthur Wellesly. Combined with its allies (Germans, Belgians, Dutch, and Prussians),
the British Army consisted of 67,000 troops and 156 artillery pieces.
Napoleon s greatest strength was the use of artillery, but with the heavy rain preceding the battle, he
worried that the muddy battlefield would restrict his artillery from advancing. This led to a fatal
miscalculation he decides not to attack until midday, in an attempt to allow the battlefield to dry.
The delay, would allow Marshal Blucher s Prussian Army enough time to join the fight.
Napoleon starts the battle by bringing up 74 artillery pieces and begins bombarding the British with
canon fire. They sweep and zone the battlefield with 3000 rounds over 30 minutes. To counteract
the artillery fire, Duke Wellington

Mandatory Conscription In The Military
1.Attention Getter:
1.Mandatory conscription has left a bad taste in the mouths of Americans since the Vietnam War.
In modern day society, it can be seen as slavery and Americans today have become accustomed to
the voluntary army system we currently have. For some, the perceived loss of freedom also means
not being able to achieve educational and occupational goals, but that is definitely not the case.
2.Reason to Listen:
1.In fact, there are many educational and occupational benefits for American soldiers. Many
citizens of the United States today do not know about these benefits. If they did, they might change
their opinion on the draft and conscription as a requirement. There are many skills and benefits to

First and foremost, they offer financial assistance for undergraduate and graduate problems. They
help to cover tuition costs as well as housing and books. In addition, other programs, like work
study and tradework training, are available. With these programs, veterans can go to school, earn
money through a job, and train for specific careers like HVAC and EMT ( Education Benefits ,
2017).
b.The GI Bill also provides assistance with career advancement. Entrepreneurship training helps
veterans start their own businesses, flight training allows veterans to become airline pilots, and
funding for license and certification testing helps servicemen and women become certified
mechanics, therapists, web developers, and attorneys ( Education Benefits , 2017).
c.Trends have shown a decline in the use of GI Bill educational benefits. Restrictions on tuition
assistance, confusing enrollment processes, and strict admission requirements are causing drops in
the number of servicemen and women taking advantage of GI Bill benefits. Some of these
restrictions include limitations on which schools can be attended and how long these benefits can
be used for. The American MilitaryUniversity saw nearly 2,700 students drop out from 2015 to

The Relationship Between ICT Systems And Information Systems
(Beynon Davies, Business information systems, Second Edition, 2013) Says that ICT systems
mainly designed to assist and help different aspects of an information system. Therefore, there is a
relationship between ICT systems and information systems which are all part of organizations.
ICT is used to enhance business processes in so many ways and can do a lot of work.
Not only business processes within an organization but also the way people work, obtain and share
information. ICT is very important in businesses.

By using TPS, information is easily available and helps managers to monitor operations within
organization. Information systems must be computerized in order to improve efficiency and
effectiveness in an organization. So, TPS are also computerized. (Valacich Schneider, 2014).
For example, At DHL Company, a world leader in logistics, they have a computerized information
system that helps clients worldwide to track their shipment and also helps the managers at DHL
to control all activities and processes with the organization. If a client asks information or an
inquiry such as where does my package reach? The staff in charge at DHL will be able to easily
find information and respond to the client due to a computerized system. This supports the
operational level of management.
Second, we have management Information Systems. This type of information systems supports
management level of an organization and it gives them a customized reports and ability to analyze
the performance of an organization. With MIS, an organization can predict the outcome of
processes and they can easily manage the information that is made by the TPS. (Valacich Schneider,

Think of a small or large innocent animal, dying a painful death, all because we humans want to

seen as just our property . Testing on animals is not the problem, the extremely inhumane way that
they are being treated is. Many animals of different species sit in cages of research facilities,
instead of being out in the wild where they belong. They are forced to endure multiple tests every

not give the facilities any restraints for their employees. No legal requirements for researchers to

provide a quality of care which is inhumane to the animal. (Neavas 2) The laboratories that these
animals are stuck in may be unsafe and unclean. The animals live in small, dark cages and are
forced to live that way their entire lives. Animals should be able to ram free and should not be kept
locked away in cages until they are needed. Under the Animal Welfare Act, research institutions are
required to establish an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee to oversee and evaluate all

company was established in 1946 and has gradually entrenched itself in the American food
industry as a cultural icon in the Southern United States for its specialty in preparation of
chicken sandwiches. Chick Fil A prides itself for the establishment of over1690 branches located

while the same store sales performance increased by 8 percent. In Houston, Texas, the greatest
performer realized a 7.2 million total gross sales in 2012. Chick Fil A uses a significantly
distinct model, notable in the retention of the ownership of each restaurant since its acquisition.
Chick Fil A selects the most suitable restaurant location, undertakes its construction, then takes

Essay about Troubles with Eminent Domain in Iceland

Governments should only take property if it will benefit the public as a whole.
In any case of mandatory purchase, the purchased property should be used for the public good.
The government must have proof of a plan to use the property to improve the lives of the public

There is also something to be said for the boost economies gain once there citizens are able to
have families they have planned, and can adequately provide for. This being said, Iceland believes
all countries in United Nations should provide their citizens with contraceptives and information
regarding their use. This may be done through requiring coverage in health insurance plans,
reducing the price of contraceptives, and/or dropping any bans they may have on contraceptives. In
addition, a wide variety of contraceptives should be available both which are for male and/or
female use. It is recommended birth control pills, and female and male condoms. This provides
citizens with a wide range of options, and the ability to choose what works for them. Religion or
cultural belief should not interfere with access to reproductive health services. These services
not only prevent pregnancies, but also prevent the spread of disease and reduce risks of cancer.
Citizens should have proper education regarding the use, benefits and downfalls of these services.
Iceland recommends this begin in primary school. This will give citizens the right to choose what
works for them, if they choose to use any at all. Religious and personal ideals are to be respected,
and no one should be forced into the use of contraceptives. However, no one should be denied them
either.

Summary Of Richard Bensel s Yankee Leviathan
Richard Bensel s Yankee Leviathan: The Origins of Central State Authority in America, 1857 1877,

A large amount of state expansion included policies that were proposed and argued in the prewar
period (Bensel, 1).
The mobilization of the northern political economy for war, however, both provided the major

impact on the structure and substantive policies of the emergent Southern Confederacy (Bensel, 3).
The war between the North and the South resulted in different governmental leaderships. The South
substantially depended on internal market development like tobacco and cotton crops. To finance
the war, the North depended on local banking institutions. As a result, during the Civil War, the
Northern financial class grew substantially. New York became the state with one of the greatest

Reflection On Marketing Simulation
For the past couple of weeks, I engaged in a marketing simulation. This Simulation was

brand, specifically a computer, that you are putting out to the world. The targeted markets were
Chicago, Sao Paulo, Paris, and Shanghai. There were three different segments that were related

how difficult it was going to be to make all the different decisions. Firstly, I had to choose a

more expensive goods as it would benefit me in the end. The segment that didn t care about
price was Mercedes, so that is the segment that I made my first priority. Next, I had to choose
what responsibility I wanted to have with the company. I chose to be president because the

Analysis Of Veronica Roth s The Big Five Model
Throughout the history of human psychology, the development of personality and the factors that
contribute to its variations have been widely scrutinised and theorized. According to some of
psychologies most acclaimed and experienced psychologists, personality can be stagnant,
morphed, molded, developed and uncovered through a range of processes we experience before

(Allport, 1937) cardinal traits were constant and consistent through life; they had overwhelming
influence on a person s total being. Central traits guided aspects of behavior, reactions and social
interaction, and finally, secondary traits were more unsettled aspects of the personality and
affected casual opinions and habitual behaviors. (Wade Tavris, 2000) Finalizing his theory,
Allport stated that while we all share common traits, and we all live in this world together, (Allport,
1961) people still differ, as for some the world is a hostile place... for others it is a sage for fun and
frolic . (Wade et al., 2000)
Allport suggests that cardinal, secondary and central traits become apparent in people at different
rates within the growth cycle. (Schopper, 1994) This element of Allports theory is directly
applicable to the initial portrayal of Divergent s protagonist, Beatrice Prior. Beatrice assumes the
mannerisms of her faction Abnegation and emulates the required habitual behaviors, reactions and
interactions. She dresses in grey clothing, she habitually washes up after her parents, and she
routinely deems it unnecessary to look in the mirror. These are all examples of secondary traits that
affect casual opinion and habits. (Wade et al., 2000) After her move to Dauntless, these mannerisms
and aspects of her personality change, further supporting Allports theory that secondary traits are
unsettled and ever changing. She now wears black, promiscuous clothing, she

My Dream Life
I vividly recall being asked what my dream job was on a sunny day during our physical
education class in third grade. The first thing that flashed through my mind was architecture as I
observed my surroundings, feeling a sense of belonging and deficiency. I ve always been keen
towards drawing and painting. I have an incline to attribute my surroundings, the world, through a
tale; a tale behind every landscape, edifice, and object. I don t perceive a building as a
background for a setting made of cold concrete and steel, instead, I see the marvelous architecture
as a living character that provides the base of a story. A base that influenced my upbringing when I
lived in my hometown Honduras and later the United States. Up to the presenttimewhen I lived in
Honduras, the structure of our home was surrounded by nature; the everlasting scent of the
flowers in the garden as birds flew by became habitual. Seating on the porch, I would draw on the
white surface as my hands would rhythmically move to the symphonies my mom would play on
the radio like Love s Joy by Fritz Kreisler. In due time, it was time for us to leave everything
behind in search of a new beginning. Our first residence in the United States drastically changed
from what my child self was used to. We lived in a small apartment in Collins Ave where the
structural space of the buildings seemed crowded. I felt foreign, missing the scent of home and
natures labyrinth. Fritz Kreisler s Love Joy soon became Love s Sorrow as I took small steps to
accommodate myself to our new surroundings, our new architectural landscape. Whenever I felt
alone or defeated I would sit by our apartment s window and listen to symphonies by Chopin,
Vivaldi, and Paganini among others; they became a coping mechanism and inspiration to draw my
surroundings inform of a lighthearted fantasy that made our new residence and neighborhood feel
like home.
At a point in my life where the narrative that played in my head like Chopin s Waltz, soon got
defeated by blank notes when I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 10. It became
evident to me when I was sitting in on the examination table that there would be notable amounts of
limitations ahead of me. I couldn t

Zachariah And Elizabeth s Role In The Bible
Elizabeth was the spouse of Zachariah, the mother of John the Baptist and a relative of Mary the
mother of Jesus. Elizabeth s name signifies God is my pledge or my God is my fortune . The
inability to bear a child is a typical topic in the Bible. In old times, infertility was viewed as a
disfavor. In any case, on numerous occasions, we see these ladies having extraordinary confidence
in God, and God rewards them with a youngster. Elizabeth was such a lady. Both she and her
significant other Zechariah were old, she past child bearing years, yet she imagined through the
beauty of God. The holy messenger Gabriel told Zechariah the news in the sanctuary, then made
him quiet since he didn t believe. Generally as the heavenly angel prognosticated,

The Netflix Business Model
Current situation
Introduction to the Company
Netflix was founded by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph in 1997 and was originally based out
of Scotts Valley California. The business model that they were working towards was to create a
company that would offer online movie rental service made available by streaming media as well as
DVD s that could be ordered online and delivered to the customers homes. (Wheelen, Case 12).
Netflix had a strategic plan to undercut the competition in an effort to stress the market and force
weaker competition out of the field. This was a very successful plan and over a period of years it
was able to force the closings of most of its competing market to include the mega giant
Blockbuster video. Using a business ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adhering to its organizational mission, Netflix was able to, over a period of about a decade,
force almost all of its competition out of the market. This was the culmination of meeting its set
Goals. Netflix core values seemed to evoke a very negative response by the general public at
large. Consumers found their ethical means of climbing the corporate ladder abhorrent. This was
damaging to Netflix for a period of several years causing investors, consumers, stock holders and
product distributors to refuse to continue a business relationship with them. The core strategy for
Netflix was to grow their streaming subscription business both domestically and globally. Its stated
goal was to continuously improve its customer experience, with a focus on expanding its
accessibility of its streaming content, and striving to enhance its users interface. This has been met
as to recent by the availability of devices that users can use in the home that will allow direct
access to Netflix streaming content directly from Smart TV s and DVD players. Netflix is
continually expanding and extending its streaming service to include services to new streaming
capable devices as they are offered on the market while working to do so within the parameters of
its consolidated net income and operating segment contribution profit targets. (Netflix) Netflix

Farm Descriptive Essay
The Farm Awakens
The arrival of the six children wearing wrinkled clothes and half shut eyes ironically revived the
empty ranch and brought life back into each and every crevice. The rusty gates creaked as they
swung open, revealing the world of tall grass and herds of cattle hidden deep in the hills of
Nevada. Two cars, filled to capacity, rolled up the dusty, dirt road leaving behind all sense of
civilization. They arrived at night. Thousands of white lights illuminated the sky normally
blanketed by the bright streets back home. The air smelled and felt fresh. The eerie quiet hid the
sleeping animals, but because of the grinding gravel and anxious screams of joy, the children s
noise bounced between the mountain sides and awoke the farm. Both cars parked in front of the
white picket fence lining the house and duffle bags dumped out the back of the SUV s filled with
sweaters, toiletries, pants, blankets and pretty much anything else they could fit. The strong, stocky
fathers slung the bags over their shoulders and brought them inside, turned on the lights, and the
outside world was forgotten as they admired the inside of their home for the week.
When the door opened, 5 pairs of boots stomped inside, shuffling their feet along the thick, bristly
rug that read Welcome Home! . As their heads revolved around the room, Dylan and Grace, the two
oldest, led the pack of children naively glancing past the cowhide rugs and rustic furniture the
parents admired. They traveled room to

The Use Of Adaptive Pressure On Our Memory
ur memory still contain traces from our evolutionary past? To what extent do our operating abilities
involving memory, still prescribe to our distant ancestral selection pressures? These questions have
all been considered, however, the role of adaptive pressures on our memory, have just began to be
studied further by memoryresearchers. Scholars have attempted to study how our current
memory processing capabilities could have been tailored to achieve specific outcomes from our
instinctual past. This research could be a window into empirical findings that may challenge
existing perspectives on retention. Possibly, even help foster creative memory mnemonics that
could assist us in our daily lives, where memory is concerned. A level of processing is described as
the memory recall of stimuli as a function of the depth of mental processing (McLeod 2007).
Levels of processing range from shallow levels to deeper levels of processing. For example,
answering the questionDoes the word rhyme with cow? induces a shallow level of processing,
whereas answering How pleasant is the word to you? induces a deep level of processing. Asking
if the word is pleasant or not is considered to invoke a deeper level of processing because it
requires the consideration of the meaning of the word and how you think about that word, while
asking whether or not the word rhymes with cow is only considering the structure or the word in
question. Its important to consider these levels, since research

Mark Twain Is The Pen Name Used By American Writer
Melissa Izzo
Professor Rachel Braaten
HUM 2235
24 October 2014
Mark Twain Mark Twain is the pen name used by American writer Samuel Langhorn Clemens.
Twain is an iconic American author and humorist who used both his personal struggles and gifts
as a writer, to impact society from the nineteenth century into the present. He came from a large
family and was born in Florida, Missouri, and lived from 1835 to 1910. Two of Mark Twains works
which become a staple of his career were The Adventures of Tom Sawyerand the sequel The
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Like everyone else, Mark Twain had a personal life beyond his
writings which consisted of a marriage and children. Lesser known of his works, Mark Twain
published a science fiction novel along with many short stories and essays. Toward the end of
his life, Mark Twain experienced both fame and personal struggle, which led to his inevitable
death. Samuel Langhorn Clemens was born on November 30th, 1835 to his mother and father,
Jane Lampton Clemens and John Marshall. He was the sixth born of their children, who all
stayed in the small town of Florida, Missouri until Twain was four years old. Then, in 1839, the
family moved not too far, to the town of Hannibal in Mississippi. Sadly, at the age of thirteen,
Twain had to leave school to become a printer s assistance after his father died of pneumonia. Few
people know where the pen name Mark Twain comes from. When he turned seventeen, Twain
moved out of Hannibal to St. Louis

Motivations In Antigone By Sophocles
Ever wondered how far your motivations could take you? Antigone, a famous play written by
Sophocles, introduces the audience to various characters who push the limits with their
motivations, despite the consequences. We, the audience, are shown two major characters, a
determined woman, Antigone, who goes to extremes for her family, and Creon, a stubborn king who
believes in protecting his city Thebes. Creon creates a rule that both Antigones brothers, Polyneices
and Eteocles must both alternately fulfill the title of king of Thebes, and ends in Polyneices death
because of a battle that arose between the brothers which resulted in a demand for Polyneices to
remain unburied by Creon, which influenced Antigones determination to give Polyneices a proper
burial, resulting in the death of Antigone and Creon s family members. I believe Creon is the
tragic hero because although he was doing what he thought was right to defend the people of
Thebes and fulfill his duty as a ruler, he resulted in losing his loved ones and ending up alone.
Creon becomes the king of Thebes, and because of this, he wants to protect his people. Despite his
desire to remain loyal to his citizens, Creon doesn t take advice or input from anyone. Creon puts
himself above everyone, including the gods, taking advantage of his title. Creon states, We must
obey those whom the city has ordained to be its leaders. We should obey them, unquestioningly, in
all things, minor or great, those we agree with

Voltaire s Use Of Satire In Candide
Mr. Boni chose this book for our class in order to provide us with a first hand example of the
views of the Enlightenment period philosopher, Voltaire. Throughout Candide, Voltaire s well
known satire, we are exposed to his sharp witted criticisms of the church, nobility, religion, and
philosophy. Using misfortune as well as comic relief, Candide, holds the interest of its readers
while educating them in Enlightened views. For the use of our current studies, this novel is a
brilliant bridge between the witty words of one man s views of the world and the history in which
it is surrounded. It represents the author s unabridged view on mankind s lack of necessary
development as a result of the Enlightenment, staying true to his aversions of religious... Show more

Voltaire satirizes numerous social norms of his time using recurring themes throughout the novel.
With his every present sardonic writing, Voltaire addresses issues regarding religion, social
structure, women s rights, and unrelenting optimism. He ridicules religion for its corruption and
intolerance. No religion went unscathed as Voltaire took shots at many of the main sects of religion
including Protestantism, Catholicism, and Anabaptism. He also took shots at elitist nobility and the
unfair women s rights of the time, using irony to show the uselessness of the unjust systems and
privileges (or lack thereof). In addition, Voltaire made light work of philosophical optimism, an
idea highly popularized by German theorist Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibnitz. It was thought that
God created a perfect world and therefore, God would not cause anything to happen if not for a
greater outcome. Voltaire, an atheist in his own right, thought this absurd and wished to educate his
readers of this through his fast paced

term paper about fixed assets
The fixed asset register is an accounting method used by businesses to identify the major resources
they hold. Lindsey Lester explains what it is and how it should be used
The reporting of fixed assets should comply with Financial Reporting Standard 15 (FRS 15). The
aim of this reporting standard is to ensure that tangible fixed assets are accounted for on a
consistent basis. It sets out the principles in making a decision as to whether a tangible fixed asset is
stated at cost on a financial statement or at a revalued amount. It is acknowledged within the
standard that in some cases no depreciation charge will be made on the grounds that it is immaterial.
What is a fixed asset?
The definition of a fixed asset was discussed in my last ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this is:
A computer was purchased for ВЈ5,000 and the life of the computer is expected to be three years
with a residual value of ВЈ800. The total amount to be depreciated will be ВЈ4,200 (ВЈ5,000 800).
To determine the amount of depreciation per year, the following equation should be used: ВЈ4,200
/3 = ВЈ1,400 pa.
The reducing balance method
This is the other commonly used method. It is usually used where the asset is required to be
written off at a higher value in the asset s infancy, usually when it has a very high usage. The
amount of depreciation will reduce at a constant rate each year as the asset gets older. For instance
an asset was purchased for ВЈ3,250 (NBV) with a residual value of ВЈ702 at the end of three years.
The rate of depreciation will be 40% annually: Book Value
Accumulated Depreciation
First year
3250 x 40% = 1300
1950
1300
Second year
1950 x 40% = 780
1170
2080
Third year
1170 x 40% = 468
702
2548
You may also find that your accountants will refer to an asset that is being considered for
impairment, and this too should be covered in the depreciation policy
Depreciation guidelines as to over how long an asset will depreciate will be laid down in your
depreciation policy and should be followed to ensure consistency.
The purpose of the depreciation policy is to ensure that consistent principles are applied in respect
of the measurement, valuation and depreciation of a tangible fixed asset. The Academies Accounts

The Battle Of The Civil War
It was a group of radical Republicans and southern Democrats in 1865 that set the tone for one of
the most infamous and earlier gridlock stories in Congress. After the assignation of Abraham
Lincoln, Andrew Johnson became president and the dispute incurred over how to fix the country.
The Civil War had left the country with insurmountable damage and Congress could not agree on
how to rectify the situation. Northern Republicans wanted to open voting rights to former slaves,
which is exactly what the southern Democrats did not want. These Republicans, wanting to get
more votes, passed two voting right pieces of legislation, which Johnson vetoes. Thus begins not
only gridlock in Congress, but also attempted impeachment of Andrew Jackson. Gridlock is
brought about by valid and meaningful pieces of legislations that both major political parties
cannot agree to instate and while Congress may not agree to passit, most often it is the citizens that
suffer. (Browning)
There are various reasons for Congress to achieve gridlock. Wikipedia defines congressional
gridlock as, a situation when there is difficulty in passing laws that satisfy the needs of the people...
when the ration between bill s passed and the agenda of the legislature decreases. (Wikipedia) Sarah
Binder writer for Brookings states, Alexander Hamilton was complaining more than two centuries
ago about the deadlock rooted in the design of the Continental Congress. In many ways, gridlock is
endemic to our

  • 2. Religion In Ancient Egypt And Mesopotamia Religion in the ancient civilizations of Egypt and Mesopotamia played a significant role in developing and organizing the society. Based on the common belief of the world s divine creation, both civilizations had regular rituals and ceremonies to honor the supernatural beings. In rituals and ceremonies, the cult was expressed as the manifestation of components that symbolized the divine such as the cult images, temples, and shrines. Since religion was an important aspect in the people s daily lives, it also had an impact on the ruling system in the two civilizations. Even though Ancient Egyptand Mesopotamia have similar foundational beliefs about the cult, different cultic practices imply the difference in the structure and the scope of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similar to Egyptians, Mesopotamians were polytheists and their gods created the natural phenomena. However, the temple in each city state mainly worshipped a local god and was the central power in the city. The Mesopotamians ascribed human s appearance and characteristics to represent their deities. The presence of the cult image in the temple indicated the presence of the deity in the city. Each cult image of the local god was placed in the city s largest and most sophisticated sanctuary. For instance, the cult image of Marduk Babylon s city deity resided in the Esagila temple. Mesopotamians believed the shrine of the Esagila temple was the heart of the universe. According to the inscriptions in the Steinplatten, the cult statue, the walls and the ceilings of the sanctuary were plated in gold. In practice of the daily ritual, the servants or priests of the temple cleansed and dressed the cult statue in new clothes. Since the priests directly served the patron city god, they were respected by common people. Additionally, the inscriptions from king Neriglissar s cylinder revealed that he was submissive to the gods and thus the king s power was shared to the priests and the local government. Local government governed the city and controlled the economy on behalf of the city s god. Consequently, the cult s control over the economy and society was limited inside the city state. • 3. Alicia Panganiban Essay I would like to express a hearty recommendation for Alicia Panganiban for the American Association of University of Women (AAUW) International Fellowships for her Master of Theology program at Princeton. Since my father, Cullen I K Story taught at Princeton for ca. 25 years, I know the area and the school very well. I also had the privilege of teaching with him in the summer language program many years ago. Her training at Princeton will greatly benefit Alicia as well as her career goal of ministering to girls and women, especially in her culture where women play subordinate roles to men. In my estimation Alicia will well represent the commitment and thrust of PTS as well as the mission of AAUW. I have known Alicia for about six years, both as a student and a teaching assistant. I also consider her as a personal friend. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During her program at Regent, she has been an exceptional Teaching Assistant for New Testament courses, Unity of the Bible, and several Greek and hermeneutics courses. I have been impressed by the vitality and vibrancy of her Christian faith; she consistently prays with and for students and seeks to find opportunities to assist students in their various life challenges. • 4. Analysis Of Exelon ( Rivastigmine Tartrate ) Exelon (Rivastigmine Tartrate) is a hydrogen tartrate salt of Rivastigmine that acts as a reversible cholinesterase inhibitor. As a cholinesterase, it is administered in an increasing amount over a set period of time. Through the inactivation of butyrlcholinesterase and acetylcholinesterase, Exelon prevents the breakdown of the chemical acetylcholine which is thought to be important in memory, thinking, and reasoning. Due to these capabilities, it is frequently employed to combat the effects of dementia due to Alzheimer s and Parkinson s diseases where patients tend to have a lower concentration of acetylcholine. Rivastigmine is also under evaluation in clinical trials as a treatment for cocaine dependence. It can be employed both orally and as a transdermal patch. The patch is more popular due to fewer side effects. In addition, Exelon has a size of about 250Da per moleculeНѕ this is small relative to the benchmark of 500Da for transdermal transfer. Its small size combined with its lipophillic and hydrophilic nature makes it ideal for topical administration. Rivastigmine has a halflife of about 1.5 hours and when taken in a transdermal patch, it has a lag phase of between 0.5 and 1 hour. When taken orally, it has a bioavailability that is linear until about 3mg at 40%. It then follows a nonlinear pharmacokinetic model, as its bioavailability will increase with an increase in dosageНѕ when administered via transdermal patch, approximately 50% of the active ingredient is ... The following necessary steps have been described to successfully implement preemptive Pharmacogenomics testing.2 First, there must be a systematic process for genotyping and for migrating test results into the EHR. • 12. An Essay About My Cultural Identity What is my cultural identity? Personally, I don t think I am completely assured on what my cultural identity is, but I can do my best on explaining it. However, I won t get started on that yet, first I ll explain the occasion of me learning about my identity. At almost the beginning of the year, it was announced in our English class that we would be doing an essay on our cultural identities. When my teacher announced this I thought to myself, What in the world is a cultural identity, or even my cultural identity? In these months, we have gotten to learn the definition of culture, and what it means to us, individually., I believe that culture means a group of people that share the same customs, way of life, and beliefs. Also, over these last couple of months we have been reading texts all about people knowing and understanding their cultural identities, meanwhile I still didn t understand my own. All I know is that I was born on February 11, 2002, I like movies and music, and my mom is from Chile and my Dad is from Virginia. Now that didn t feel like enough for me to write on, but then I started thinking about all of the cultural differences that my parents have had raising me as a person, and how those have all combined to make me. In my short 15 years of life, the culture clashes have sometimes affected me on my thoughts and opinions, which I ll talk about later on. As well as how movies and music have affected my perspectives and opinions. Now there are a lot of aspects that make me as a person, but the one I want to develop on the most would be the fact that I have been raised by two almost completely different cultures, my dad being raised in a more conservative setting, while my mom was raised in a more carefree, but still careful setting, but they both lived in similar living conditions, not having a lot of money, but they found ways in their times to overcome those issues and cope with them. Which makes them similar on how they have raised me and my two siblings, but still quite different in other aspects. I found this part of me, with the combined cultures of my parents, to be very conflicting at times because when my dad would talk about different topics, my mother would just have a completely ... In such cases, one party s breaking and entering into the other party s living space at night with the intent of committing a felony will constitute burglary. Many jurisdictions have also eliminated the element of dwelling from the burglary definition and consider burglary the entering onto any premises with the intent to commit a felony therein. As we have said, the breaking and entering must be done at night in order to qualify as burglary. However, the breaking and entering do not have to be done on the same night. That is to say, the defendant can create the opening in the dwelling on one night and then use that opening to gain entry on another night. Please remember, however, that, as we said before, there must be a causal relationship between the breaking and entering so that, even though the breaking and entering can occur on different nights, the breaking must be the means that the defendant uses to gain access to the dwelling. Bush (where blogs were highly instrumental in exposing him) have all contributed to the growing popularity of citizen journalism. So, why is there a recent growth in popularity of citizen journalism? Is it because of the scandals that has eroded the credibility of traditional journalism or is out of touch with today s media landscape? Traditional journalism has also prided itself as being an objective source of media, but pure objectivity is just a mirage. The limitation of human nature causes us to be biased, as we all have opinions which we directly or indirectly express in our communication, Added to this the financial, time and area space causes journalism to be subjective to a certain degree. But, another question arises, is subjectivity, an expression of one s opinions, necessarily bad? After all opinions give meaning to facts. One may argue that the presentation of opinions in the media would preclude people from making their own judgments, but aren t peoply independent beings with a mind of their own? However, from the standpoint of traditional journalism where the audience has a trusted relationship with the media source or media person it might not be such good idea to be subjective mostly because of the certain sense of loyalty of the audience member towards his/her particular news ... However, after reading Extreme vs Restricted utilitarianism by J.J.C. Smart, we can tell that there s two kinds of utilitarianism s. The first one is extreme utilitarianism. These are mainly what J.J.C. Smart talks about in his work. First and foremost, after reading Extreme vs Restricted utilitarianism by J.J.C. To wrap it all up, according to smart, the main difference between extreme and restricted utilitarianism is that restricted utilitarians hold that conformity to rules determines right action and extreme utilitarians do not. In addition, according to extreme utilitarianism, if someone does a morally right action, then they do not commit themselves to one version or another. On the other hand, smart mentions moral rules and how they are rules of thumb; well what he means by that is that rules of thumb are rules that can be useful but do not always tell us what we should do. Multiple cases can fit this situation, including the infamous civil war and Texas contribution towards it. Many situations lead to Texas rebelling against the union; all including things like the North and South having disputes over slavery, disagreements on the right to secede, and overall a domestic battle for power. These incidents led to an incredibly enraged Texas, making one ponder: why did Texas fight in the civil war? (document C). Each statement supports the fact that the united states should grant each state their own power. By doing this it gives people popular sovereignty, this means more individual freedom and a happier government. Texas felt the need to not have to follow a set of rules created by a federal system. The Union deprived Texas of this right because it wanted to stay in control, this ended up giving the Union Hitlerian aspects which incensed Texas. The most important reason why the Texas fought in the civil war was to preserve slavery. Texas believed that white men established the government and African Americans did not (document B). Texans wanted power, and maintaining slavery would not only bring power but and economic uprising. Since 182,566 people were enslaved in 1860, this being 30% of the Texas population (document A), many Texans used slavery for farming and cultivating crops. Slavery was key in sustaining the Economy. He sets forth to taking the town until two unlikely heroes come to the rescue and wittingly save the day. Almost immediately following is the nigger work song, which starkly contrasts and sets the tone for the movie. Another thing that didn t necessarily make sense was the cowboy saving the day. Typically, as we have seen through Buffalo Bill namely, the cowboy swoops in, shoots the bad guy, gets the girl, and uses his strength to ride off on his trusty stallion. Here Bart concocts a rather intelligent plan, rallies the townsfolk to execute the plan together, and doesn t really get the girl. While Huxley sees the possibility for philosophical enlightenment as something only the Alphas, or the elites of the world, can attain, de Graaf believes that anyone can reach philosophical enlightenment. Furthermore, Huxley argues that the idea of even attempting to enlighten the masses would be a fruitless endeavor. de Graaf, on the other hand, encourages his readers to become enlightened and spread the enlightenment to others. Once people are able to take a step back from the highly materialistic life, they will have more time to improve themselves and allot time for other things they enjoy. People will be able to add meaning and fulfillment back into their lives. Escaping from this false consciousness will create a sense of freedom and such a sense of lightness (Graaf, 380). • 21. Main Characters In Homer s Odyssey And Virgil s Aeneid [insert title] In both Homer s Odyssey and Virgil s Aeneid, the main characters of each poem, Odysseus and Aeneas, travel to the underworld in search of guidance and the foretelling of fate. In the Odyssey, this scene is being retold by Odysseus to the Phaiakians, while in the Aeneid, the reader is told the scene from a third person point of view. Each poet s depiction of the underworld has different purposes within the text. I argue that Homer s depiction is meant for Odysseus to entertain the Phaiakians, while Virgil s depiction is meant to instate values within Aeneas. Although both texts contain many of the same scenes within the underworld, the differing methods of narration between the texts, and the added details within the Aeneid, greatly change the effects of the scene on characters within the poems. These differences are important because Odysseus must gain favor from the Phaiakians, and Aeneas must fulfill his destiny. To support this argument, I will first discuss each character s journey in the underworld, the descriptions of the underworld, and finally the purpose within each text. On each character s journey to and through the underworld, they go seeking one person but have other experiences that shape the characters and their future journey. Odysseus has been instructed by Circe to seek Tiresias, and Aeneas was visited by his father in a dream and ordered to see him in the underworld. Early in the journey for both characters, they encounter an issue with the unburied dead. Aeneas is told by Sibyl that a friend lies dead... bear him first to his place of rest (Virgil, Book 6, Line 179 182) before heading to the underworld. This shows the importance of burying the dead and this is one of the earliest values that Aeneas learns on his journey. Aeneas must protect and respect his men, even in their deaths. The first soul that Odysseus encounters in the underworld is that of Elpenor, his dead companion that had not yet been buried under earth of the wide ways (Homer, Book 11, Line 52). Elpenor begs Odysseus to burn me there with all my armor that belongs to me, and to give him a proper grave (H, B11, L74). • 22. The Impacts of Overfishing in the Pacific Ocean Research on Overfishing in the Pacific Ocean: The demand for food across the globe continues to increase as the human population continues to increase. For human populations, particularly people in the poorest countries across the globe, fish is an important source of nourishment and food given the increase in the demand for food. As a result, fisheries catches represent a huge export of energy and mass that can no longer be utilized by trophic levels that are higher than those fished. Since fishing has been used one of the major ways by humans to meet the ever increasing demand for food, it has contributed to widespread overfishing. The widespread overfishing has in turn resulted in the decrease in the global catch of fish. Furthermore, increased overfishing has become a huge threat to every species in the ocean and has largely contributed to the huge migrations by marine mammals in their quest for the left over fish. While the use of fish by human beings is not wrong, the whole eco system in the ocean can be severely impacted when human take too much. In order to deal with this issue effectively, it s important to examine its causes, effects, and proposed solutions. The Trend of Overfishing across the Globe: According to the findings of research, approximately 50 percent of commercial marine species have been overfished in the past five decades (Srinivasan, Cheung, Watson Sumaila, p.1). Some examples of great historical films are Hidden Figures, Forrest Gump, Gandhi, and Dances with Wolves. Although these films provided a glimpse of the past, no other movie was as artistic as the film Life is Beautiful . The movie was a fairytale trapped in a historical period filled with misery and survival, which was why I chose it. Life is Beautiful is a wonderful masterpiece that provides a glimpse of the Holocaustand the indomitability of humanity even in the midst of inhumanity. The film was set in the late 1930s of Arezzo, Italy. The main character, Guido (Roberto Benigni), is an enthusiastic Jewish Italian man who moved to the city to open a bookstore and help his uncle, Eliseo (Giustino Durano), in his Grand Hotel. While Guido is in the city he encounters a non Jewish Italian woman named Dora (Nicoletta Braschi), who he falls in love with and uses his charm to win her over. The first half of the movie hosted a series of events that demonstrated what an extraordinary character Guido was that not only did Dora fall in love with but the audience did as well. At Dora s engagement ceremony, Guido whisked her away on a green horse ensuring that they will live together happily. Eventually, they have a son named Giosue (Giorgio Cantarini) together. However, their blissful life is interrupted by World War II and the declaration of racial laws. The second half of the movie hosted a series of sacrificial events by Guido and Dora. On Giosue fifth birthday, he was taken away with his father and uncle to a concentration camp. Dora, refusing to be left behind, sacrifice herself by insisting to go to the camp as well. While in the concentration camp Guido made sacrifices to protect his son from the vile truth, by turning their situation into a game, and he also made sacrifices to ensure his wife that he and Giosue were okay. Dhamdhere, rnd7528@g.rit.edu I.Introduction The Internet of Things (IoT) helps us sense meaningful data from the physical world. In recent years, its ability to sense the data has increased tremendously, which increases the prospects of IoT applications useful to humans. Machine learning will play a big part to help IoT derive sense from raw data and deliver useful information. A simple quantitative analysis is done on two broad categories of applications a smart glass that uses a deep learning network to perform real time recognition on video stream that it captures, and a server cluster that trains the model associated with the deep network. The analysis showed differences between the computational capabilities of current systems and the needs levied by these application cases. The authors hypothesize that deep learning will be one of the important part of the computing platforms and will be extensively deployed. The Paper discusses the following potential procedures to improve the efficiency of deep learning for embedded computing systems accelerators for deep learning, approximate computing and neuromorphic circuits based on emerging post CMOS devices. His successes and errors made throughout the Battle of Waterloohad a direct effect on how we use artillery today. The Battle of Waterloo, which took place on 18 June 1815, was the final battle of the Napoleonic wars and ended Napoleon s reign as emperor. Combined with its allies (Germans, Belgians, Dutch, and Prussians), the British Army consisted of 67,000 troops and 156 artillery pieces. Napoleon s greatest strength was the use of artillery, but with the heavy rain preceding the battle, he worried that the muddy battlefield would restrict his artillery from advancing. This explains why they hold greater test scores since they are focusing a greater narrow path, not a broad path like public classes, which gives them a basic understanding in most topics, so they have the opportunity to get their hands on a fall back when they are older if something doesn t work out. When they apply to be accepted into a college and/or work they individual would be obligated. A few students that enroll in a magnet institute may decide to change their original idea. This is the result of boarding academies being too narrow for each class that if they do need to learn more about broader subjects than they need to would have a bit trouble knowing about it. Since there are public institutions that gives them the ability to learn about wide ranging subjects that offers them the experience to go further in depth about other ... This Simulation was extremely fun while challenging as it taught me the right way to advertise and market a new brand, specifically a computer, that you are putting out to the world. The targeted markets were Chicago, Sao Paulo, Paris, and Shanghai. There were three different segments that were related to PC s and laptops. Those three were Mercedes, Workhorse, and Traveler. Below, I am going to mention what specific decisions I made in each of the six quarters as well as why I made each decision. Quarter 1 2 Since quarter one was the first quarter of this simulation, I was unaware of how difficult it was going to be to make all the different decisions. Firstly, I had to choose a Company name. Because I was selling computers, I thought that the name Dev Tech was a perfect fit being that this simulation was about development and technology. Next, I had to choose a target segment. I knew going into this simulation that it would be better to invest in the more expensive goods as it would benefit me in the end. The segment that didn t care about price was Mercedes, so that is the segment that I made my first priority. Next, I had to choose what responsibility I wanted to have with the company. I chose to be president because the president has advantage of having overall leadership. Finally, I had to open a sales office. • 40. My Dream Life I vividly recall being asked what my dream job was on a sunny day during our physical education class in third grade. The first thing that flashed through my mind was architecture as I observed my surroundings, feeling a sense of belonging and deficiency. I ve always been keen towards drawing and painting. I have an incline to attribute my surroundings, the world, through a tale; a tale behind every landscape, edifice, and object. I don t perceive a building as a background for a setting made of cold concrete and steel, instead, I see the marvelous architecture as a living character that provides the base of a story. A base that influenced my upbringing when I lived in my hometown Honduras and later the United States. Up to the presenttimewhen I lived in Honduras, the structure of our home was surrounded by nature; the everlasting scent of the flowers in the garden as birds flew by became habitual. Seating on the porch, I would draw on the white surface as my hands would rhythmically move to the symphonies my mom would play on the radio like Love s Joy by Fritz Kreisler. In due time, it was time for us to leave everything behind in search of a new beginning. Our first residence in the United States drastically changed from what my child self was used to. We lived in a small apartment in Collins Ave where the structural space of the buildings seemed crowded. I felt foreign, missing the scent of home and natures labyrinth. Fritz Kreisler s Love Joy soon became Love s Sorrow as I took small steps to accommodate myself to our new surroundings, our new architectural landscape. Whenever I felt alone or defeated I would sit by our apartment s window and listen to symphonies by Chopin, Vivaldi, and Paganini among others; they became a coping mechanism and inspiration to draw my surroundings inform of a lighthearted fantasy that made our new residence and neighborhood feel like home. At a point in my life where the narrative that played in my head like Chopin s Waltz, soon got defeated by blank notes when I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 10. The rusty gates creaked as they swung open, revealing the world of tall grass and herds of cattle hidden deep in the hills of Nevada. Two cars, filled to capacity, rolled up the dusty, dirt road leaving behind all sense of civilization. They arrived at night. Thousands of white lights illuminated the sky normally blanketed by the bright streets back home. The air smelled and felt fresh. The eerie quiet hid the sleeping animals, but because of the grinding gravel and anxious screams of joy, the children s noise bounced between the mountain sides and awoke the farm. Both cars parked in front of the white picket fence lining the house and duffle bags dumped out the back of the SUV s filled with sweaters, toiletries, pants, blankets and pretty much anything else they could fit. To what extent do our operating abilities involving memory, still prescribe to our distant ancestral selection pressures? These questions have all been considered, however, the role of adaptive pressures on our memory, have just began to be studied further by memoryresearchers. Scholars have attempted to study how our current memory processing capabilities could have been tailored to achieve specific outcomes from our instinctual past. This research could be a window into empirical findings that may challenge existing perspectives on retention. Possibly, even help foster creative memory mnemonics that could assist us in our daily lives, where memory is concerned. A level of processing is described as the memory recall of stimuli as a function of the depth of mental processing (McLeod 2007). Levels of processing range from shallow levels to deeper levels of processing. For example, answering the questionDoes the word rhyme with cow? induces a shallow level of processing, whereas answering How pleasant is the word to you? induces a deep level of processing. Asking if the word is pleasant or not is considered to invoke a deeper level of processing because it requires the consideration of the meaning of the word and how you think about that word, while asking whether or not the word rhymes with cow is only considering the structure or the word in question. Antigone, a famous play written by Sophocles, introduces the audience to various characters who push the limits with their motivations, despite the consequences. We, the audience, are shown two major characters, a determined woman, Antigone, who goes to extremes for her family, and Creon, a stubborn king who believes in protecting his city Thebes. Creon creates a rule that both Antigones brothers, Polyneices and Eteocles must both alternately fulfill the title of king of Thebes, and ends in Polyneices death because of a battle that arose between the brothers which resulted in a demand for Polyneices to remain unburied by Creon, which influenced Antigones determination to give Polyneices a proper burial, resulting in the death of Antigone and Creon s family members. I believe Creon is the tragic hero because although he was doing what he thought was right to defend the people of Thebes and fulfill his duty as a ruler, he resulted in losing his loved ones and ending up alone. Creon becomes the king of Thebes, and because of this, he wants to protect his people. Despite his desire to remain loyal to his citizens, Creon doesn t take advice or input from anyone. Lindsey Lester explains what it is and how it should be used The reporting of fixed assets should comply with Financial Reporting Standard 15 (FRS 15). The aim of this reporting standard is to ensure that tangible fixed assets are accounted for on a consistent basis. It sets out the principles in making a decision as to whether a tangible fixed asset is stated at cost on a financial statement or at a revalued amount. After the assignation of Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson became president and the dispute incurred over how to fix the country. The Civil War had left the country with insurmountable damage and Congress could not agree on how to rectify the situation. Northern Republicans wanted to open voting rights to former slaves, which is exactly what the southern Democrats did not want. These Republicans, wanting to get more votes, passed two voting right pieces of legislation, which Johnson vetoes.
