Reflection About Values
Life these days takes a toll on us when we least expect it. It is important to remain yourself and
focus in when curveballs are thrown. By doing this we are exhibiting to our issues,
consequences good with the bad, and tribulations that we are ready for whatever is thrown our
way. Lessons taught to us at a young age by our parents, peers, and other outside influences help
mold our decisions. As an African American female growing up on the Southside of Chicago
outside influences helped deter me away from a lot of the decisions and actions I could have
made which could have taken me on a different path. Each day growing up values were
introduced to us that are used now as an adult. Growing up we don t think much about how we
live, who we will be in great depth, and what our values are, but over time that changes. A lot of
my strengths, values, and interest mesh well and have geared me to a path of success because
those lessons make me who I am. Values are core beliefs that influence everyone daily whether
we are intentionally utilizing them or not. Ultimately, those values measure our worth and show
how important something may mean to us. A lot of the values that have stuck with me through
life because of my grandparents who I spent a lot of time with as a child, and eventually they
were court ordered as my legal guardians. One important value I use today and I remind myself
always is to be open minded. This is a very important skill for me being an athlete, nanny, and

Examples Of Microtransactions
So what exactly are microtransactions? Microtransactions can be defined as the exchange of
real money for virtual goods. It is a system where users can purchase virtual goods via
micropayments. hence the term microtransaction ( Microtransaction 2017.) This type of
business model is common in free to play games and is typically used to speed up progression
within the game itself. However, some developers have decided to incorporate microtransactions
despite customers already paying the full price for the game. While this is not necessarily an issue
if the goods are cosmetic and have no effect on the core gameplay, it is an issue if it provides users
who pay for offered goods with an unfair advantage over free to play players. One might... Show

In my opinion, this was a blatant money grab by EA and in no way ethical because they were not
acting in the interest of their clients (the users) and utilizing us as a means to an end. They could
have made the same game sans the microtransactions and have made a reasonable profit from the
cost of the base game itself, but instead chose to make a greedy decision to increase profit margins
for what would have been a successful game regardless. Had I been the one to make the decision, I
would have lowered the time sink required to unlock heroes by a substantial amount, and limited
the microtransactions to cosmetic items. That way, the needs of the customers would have been
satisfied, but the company would have still made more profit than it normally would. In summary,
the decision was not ethical because they acted against the interest of the customers and instead
decided to further their own profits. To understand why microtransactions have become so
prevalent one has to understand the history of them first. Microtransactions date as far back as
early 2005 with the release of the Xbox Live Marketplace. Back then, players could purchase
virtual goods such

Capital Reef National Park
The Capital Reef National Park is located in south/central Utah, and is part of the great Colorado
Plateau. An area of 378 square miles, the Capital Reef National Park is just one of many national
parks located near the four corners (Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico). Like it was mentioned
in the prompt, most of the rock formation in the Capital Reef is very similar to that of the other
national parks, however, there is one geologic feature in particular that attributes to its uniqueness.
Other than its unique name, Capital Reef lies along a north south trending monocline, called the
Water Pocket Fold. (pp.56 text book.) Waterpocket Fold derives its name from depressions in the
sandstone which hold water after a rainfall known as waterpockets,

Ethnic And National Identities Of Koreans Essay
Ethnic and national identities of Koreans in Kazakhstan by Yekaterina Pak
On March 1 2013, in the apartment of my older brother, in small town in the north of
Kazakhstan, everything was prepared for the celebration of my niece s first year birthday that
Koreans usually call tol . Small low wooden table was covered with different subjects
symbolizing various good wishes for our little girl s future: a spool of thread for long life, a
book for knowledge, bowl of rice for prosperity, money for richness and others. My niece was
wearing special Korean dress hanbok that was brought from Korea and was handed over among
my relatives whenever they have their own tol . The tradition of first year birthday has been always
kept in my family as a reminiscence of our ethnic belonging. Currently in Kazakhstan live about one
hundred thousands ethnic Koreans whose families were deported to the Soviet Kazakhstan almost
eighty years ago from the Far East. Stalin s repression politics regarding ethnic minorities who were
living next to the borders has significantly transformed identities of the deported people. How do
Koreans in Kazakhstan experience their ethnic and national identities in the context of multi ethnic
state? Living all my life in Kazakhstan and being a third generation of ethnic Koreans living outside
the place of ethnic origin, I have never questioned my identities and have never thought how
important it can be. In order to investigate my own quest for identity in this

The Navajo Region Analysis
Located at the intersection of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah lies the Four Corners.
Their borders form a 90 degree angle. This vernacular region contains deep influences from the
culture surrounding it. Their boundaries are not physical, but more so imaginary lines that are
perpendicularly intersected. The region resides on the northwestern edge of the Navajo Nation
Reservation. The Navajo Nations operates the site, which is about as large as West Virginal, and
has strong influences from the culture of the Navajo tribe (Seminara 2013). This Native
American reservation is the largest area of land occupied by a U.S. tribe. This region is in the
middle of the desert so there is not a specific large city or town that the region centers itself
around. The heart of this region is less of a town and more of a community of people. The local
culture of the Navajo tribe and their Hispanic influence is the heart of the region. The cities within

The formal culture region of this area is dominated by the Navajo, which extends into each of the
four states that compose the physical 4 corners boundary. With 170,000 native speakers and an
area of more than 27,000 square miles, the Navajo are the principal cultural group in the region.
The overlap between the vernacular region and the Navajo Nation can most easily be seen by the
attractions and souvenirs the locations offer. For example, dreamcatchers, Kachina dolls, Navajo
rugs, pottery, and jewelry are the regions priority goods being sold in shops around the area,
according to Wikitravel, a website devoted to the distribution of travel information for this location,
and many others. While most of these things are non authentic imports from Mexico and other

The Sport Of Boxing And Sports
Millions and millions of people are part of some kind of sport worldwide. Many sports require
more than one person in the team such as soccer and basketball. In the other hand there are sports
that are exercised with only two persons, which are the opponents. Many times spectators just
watch these sports but never think, much less, experience the challenges that athletes face. In the
sport of boxingthere are many effects psychologically that boxers face every time they set there
feet on a ring. In life people go to college so that with their education one day they can get a well
paying career. Similar to this example people are in the sport of boxing so that with a
combination of their hard work and talent they can achieve something in life. Some other
reasons to why people box is to prove to themselves of what they are capable of doing as well as
for the fame. Once a boxer goes professional and starts to beat their opponents then, that is when
media starts to get ahold of them. Companies such as HBO, an American premium cable and
satellite television network, then start to sponsor boxers. Once boxers start to get sponsored then
that is when they start earning seven digit incomes. According to forbes.com, a leading online
media company, Floyd Mayweather (professional boxer), will be paid $200 million dollars for this
current year (2015.) Mayweather is the best paid athlete in the world, which only translates to the
amount of money a boxer can earn if he becomes famous.

Analysis Of Hawthorne s Conception Of Human Nature...
Analysis of Hawthorne s Conception of Human Nature through his Stories
Nathaniel Hawthorne was a brilliant writer of many stories, especially dealing with the nature of
human beings, with themes including religion, perfection, and the natural world. His works have
been lauded for their treatment of the human condition. Several stories, such as The Birthmark ,
Rappaccini s Daughter , Young Goodman Brown, and The Black Veil , have been chosen to explain
Hawthorne s understanding of human nature. The Birthmark especially explains the pursuit of
human perfection and the notion that nature cannot be overcome by humankind. Rappaccini s
Daughter details the human temptation to sin. Young Goodman Brown expresses the belief that
once one sins, they will always be a sinner, cannot atone for their sins, and must pay for it. Finally,
The Black Veil considers the idea of inherent sin, where the Black Veil represents all of sin in the
town. Through his stories, Hawthorne conceptualizes his perspective on human nature by
considering that because human beings pursue perfection, and are not content with their inherent
imperfection, they experience the loss of their humanity.
Hawthorne s stories develop a narrative that explores the nature of inherent imperfection and sin.
In Young Goodman Brown, the Devil figure says to his children that, Evil is the nature of
Mankind. Evil must be your only happiness (9). The Devil figure speaking to his followers clearly
states that sin is

Discrimination Of Girls In China
History: Discrimination of girls in China comes down to the preference of boys over girls at
birth. The roots to this preference can be found deep within the Chinese culture. Boys are
wanted as they will carry on the family name and care for the parents in old age. Girls on the
other hand, are seen as a waste of time as they will marry into another family, change names, and
only look after their in laws. The One Child Policy was implemented by Deng Xiaoping in 1979
and ended in 2015 as a plan to reduce the growth rate of China s enormous population. As a result
of the one child policy, the numbers of mothers proceeding with abortions if they found out they
were having a girl spiked and it also spiked with the introduction of ultrasound technology in.
Even when girls are lucky enough to make it through pregnancy, they are still often abandoned
or thrown in the trash to die. Others are given to orphanages to be adopted out. Families would
do anything to get a boy as their only child: Mothers that are poisoned and given forced
abortions, babies that are thrown against walls, smothered or drowned newborns, and infants
that are left in the trash to die. When girls are able to make it past their first few years of life
with supportive families, they are able to experience as equal opportunities as boys. Prejudice:
Because of Chinese tradition, girls aren t seen as being as strong as men and their job should be to
bare children. They weren t wanted at birth as they would become

Ethical Issues With Animal Testing
More than 115 million animals are used each year for testing (Akhtar). The act of testing on live
animals for the purpose of scientific research is called vivisection. According to a nationwide
survey of biology educators commissioned by NAVS in 2014, the use of animals as dissection
specimens in biology classrooms remains a prevalent practice in the United States, with 84% of
pre college biology educators reporting the use of dissection as a teaching tool. The use of
vivisection is carried out in middle schools, high schools, and universities. Animals are also used in
testing for cosmetics, tox screenings, and xenotransplantation, a process of transplanting organs or
tissues between different species . Many creatures around the world are forced into a life in cage
where they obliged to endure painful tests. Along with the pain caused by scientists, many of the
drugs that prove to be successful in animals aren t in humans. Aside from all, animals do have the
right to not be harmed although the Animal Welfare Act doesn t provide much protection. Our
country s law refuses to find it necessary to use alternative methods which are also obtainable.
Animal testingshould be outlawed due to animal rights, ethical issues, alternative ways and its
unreliability.
First of all, testing on animals must be outlawed in order to protect the rights of animals. Their
rights are infringed by endless experimenting. We may not believe this but animals and humans are
alike in more than one way.

The Soviet Union Won Four Gold Medals
:
James walks into the Olympic Center Stadium, feeling a brisk of cold air hit him as he sees the
clean sheet of ice. He looks around to see Americans, his people, laughing anxiously around him

spot, he sat down and relaxed.

Dance With Wolves Analysis
The portrayal of Indigenous people in the film Dance with Wolves written by Michael B., produced
by Jim Wilson and Kevin Costner illustrate a new perspective of the life of the Indian. The main
character, Lieutenant Dunbar, encounters an indigenous man known as Kicking Bird that later on,
the movie will create a relationship with Dunbar. Through this interaction, Dunbar will be accepted
into the tribe and in his journey with the Siouxpeople, he finds a new way of life. This move is
based on the American Frontier and the capture of the last Free roaming tribe f the Sioux people.

Although she is shown as a white female, she was raised in the tribe and adapted to their culture
and traditions. Similar to Pocahontas, she was the bridge between Lieutenant Dunbar and the
Sioux as she becomes the translator for the Kicking bird, their medicine man. In addition, she
was always connected back to a male figure as it appears that her only use was to be with a man.
She had lost her sense of identity and reality when her first husband was killed, then, later on,
meets Lieutenant Dunbar while attempting to kill herself. This is another example of her being
see as the princess because the Princess is allowed the even grander gesture of committing
suicide when her lover is slain or fails to return to her after she rescues him (Green, 704). She is
depicted as helpless without a man and is only seen as useful with one. In addition, like every
depiction of the princess her having to choose between the non Native man whom she falls in love
with or her tribe. While beautiful the Indian Princess is lesser than white women and more often
than not the main character will ultimately choose the white maiden rather than her (Marubbio,

that Mrs. Mallard experiences a sense of optimism instead of mourning her husband s death. Then
she is overcome not by sadness but a certain joy. Just to have it all taken from her in the split of a

abandonment but then quickly realizing she had nothing to be upset about. After quickly
calming down Mrs. Mallard walks into her room, and closes the door behind her. She looks out

her bedroom window. Spring is a symbol for a new beginning. Insinuating that while her husband
was alive, her life was like a cold, harsh winter. Then after his death a new spring of life, or a new
beginning to her life. After standing and looking through the window, Mrs. Mallard walks to the

Compare And Contrast Frederick Douglas And Malcolm X
In almost a century difference in time, Frederick Douglas, an abolitionist of the 19th century,
and Malcolm X, a separatist and civil rights activist of the 20th century cleverly managed to
learn how to read and write utilizing the resources around them. Their circumstances and
ignorance did not stifle their desire to learn to read and write, or obtain the knowledge that
would bring forth their positions as powerful leaders of black communities across the land.
Compelling circumstances lead them down a path that ignited a tremendous passion to seek as
much knowledge as one could contain. That knowledge is utilized to aid in the fight for freedom,
civil liberties, and injustices against the people of color and for themselves. Their acts of protest,
resistance, and courage are what made these two men significant persons to follow. It is without
wonder how Frederick Douglas and Malcom X became to teach and lead many people of color the
same information they sought out. It was intuition, personal thoughts, feelings of injustice,
determination, curiosity to learn knowledge of self, and the desire to fight for what was right that
made Douglas and X want to enlightened their people. These two forces would no longer live in
their enslaved, dark, illiterate world. They created a platform that ignited change and brought
direction, enlightenment, and value to their people by any means necessary so, they too could
come out of dark and see the light. The essay written by Douglas

Feature Of Congress
One Important Feature of the U.S Congress Congress is a vital component of our government. It
has a great amount of authority over foreign affairs, a bicameral legislature which seeks to
balance power, as well as having power over economic matters under Article I Section 8 of the
Constitution (The Logic of American Politics, 219). The failures of the Articles of Confederation
called for a stronger government demanded by the people of America. The Legislative, Judicial,
and Executive branches were created thus Congress was formed. These powers of Congress have
much control under the branches of government, being able to deal with affairs outside of the
country as well as having the Senate and House of Representatives. The structure of Congress...

In the Federalists Papers written by Publius, their focus was opposing ratification and building

the people. The features of Congress to control the budget imposed on the American people does
not align with the thoughts of Madison. Congress, chosen to represent the people, were unable
to provide cures for the mishaps occurring on both April 2011 and October 2013. The job of
Congress is to solve the problems of the people when it comes to funding certain government
operations and passing bills that will ultimately help the people, and during these times Congress

The Key Ideal City In Plato s Republic
Plato s Republic book IV continues with the conversation between Socrates and Adeimantus on
creating what Socrates believes would be the ideal city. A key idea that he and Adeimantus
debate over is the wealth and poverty among each class. These classes are; Auxiliary (The
warriors who enforce the rules of the Guardians, they also protect the city), The Guardians (They
are responsible for ruling the city. They are chosen from among the ranks of the auxiliaries) and
the Producers (The largest class of society but no share in ruling, they focus exclusively on
producing whatever it is that they are best suited to produce). One concept in the republicis the

Extreme poverty, however would restrict people and prevent them from getting the tools they
need to their job successfully. This links back to the previous point as either extreme poverty or
wealth would damage the state as no one would do their job. If the guardians didn t do their job
and over indulged in wealth then they may care less for their duties and therefore rules begin to
breakdown
This class idea has some similarities to today s society, with social inequality being a big ethical
issue; it raises some questions to whether this ideal world that has been created would work. For
example one possible issue with the class system that are both of them have the smallest group
holding the highest/ or all of the power. This is an issue as the top percentage will only understand

The effects of Land issues to poverty
The Philippines has always been an agricultural country. This can be an effect of the country s
tropical weather. According to the World Bank, in 2009, the country has 40% of agricultural land
area. The country s economy has been dependent on agricultural production. The country s
agriculture sector is made up of 4 sub sectors: farming, fisheries, livestock, and forestry, which
together employ 39.8 percent of the labor force and contribute 20 percent of GDP. Farmers work
under the sun s heat in order to feed the mouths of not only their families who are under poverty but
also the millions of Filipinos.
Land issues have always been a problem in the country. There would still be numerous reports on
killings because of undistributed land. There would always be problems on housing loans and
grants from the government. In effect, our Filipino farmers would still work under the same
landowners and would be deprived of developing their own lives.
In Gilberto M. Llanto and Marife M. Ballesteros s article, Land Issues in Poverty Reduction
Strategies and the Development Agenda: Philippines , it shows how land problems in the country
can affect the alleviation of poverty. According to the author, there are five critical land issues.
These are the following: (1) unclear and inconsistent land policies; (2) inefficient land
administration infrastructure; (3) highly politicized land tax system; (4) inefficient agrarian reform

The Media And Its Portrayal Of Athletes
According to Knight and Giuliano s 2001 article, gender equality has been and will remain a
current topic of hot discussion in the media and its portrayal of athletes. Athletes have a unique
ability to deliver their thoughts and information to the masses through the media outlets given to
them in regard to their social status. Once the media has heard what the athletes have to say it
can be at the media s hand for interpretation. In this specific study 92 undergraduates were given a
fake newspaper that covered an Olympian with the main focus being on attractiveness. The
study covered male and female athletes in the newspaper article while focusing predominantly
on attractiveness. Results show that the readers not only disliked the attraction focus, but also
preferred the reading be more focused on the athleticism of the Olympians. The largest take
away from the study is the media and its coverage or portrayal of athletes being geared towards
athletic achievement over quality of appearance In Riebock and Bae s 2013 literature review
they discuss the differences in men and women athletes body perception in the media. To get their
results they used multiple questionnaires that revolved around questions dealing with body
shame, self objectification and their appearance goal. Their conclusion said grade level and
ethnicity do not play a significant role in the effects of the media on body perceptions (Riebock
Bae, 2013). However, what does play a role is gender. Women are in

weakness on the left side of his body, neglects both visual and auditory stimuli to his left side,
difficulty with rapid visual scanning, difficulty with complex visual, perceptual and constructional

Broca s area gives an individual the motor ability to speak. Damage to this area may cause an
individual to have difficulty speaking. For instance, not only does Mr. Fix it demonstrate
incoherent speech, he also has a mild articulatory problem, in which it would be difficult for the
patient to say certain words or say it in an unusual accent.
This type of symptom is very common in people who have suffered from a right hemisphere stroke.
Since the frontal lobe is also responsible for the ability to sequence tasks successfully, damage to
this lobe has caused the patient with difficulty to execute constructional tasks. For example, Mr.
Fix it may have difficulty in things such as building a bike or putting pieces of a puzzle together,
in which the patient can possibly now have constructional apraxia due to the stroke taking place
in the right hemisphere. Because the patient has suffered damage from a right hemisphere stroke;
he has experienced paresis to the left side of the body. Right sided hemiparesis causes injury to
the left side of the brain, in which its functions include the ability of language and speaking (

Posted on January 16, 2015 by ugcbioethicsby Amy Bloom, Bioethics Program faculty I have
been reading the latest news regarding Cassandra C., the teen with Hodgkin s lymphoma who
refused treatment but was forced into receiving it by a Connecticut Supreme Court ruling. As a
mother and a bioethicist, these are the times when reconciling my personal opinions with my
professional experience can be most challenging. Many of my mom friends were shocked and
horrified by the image of a young woman being restrained to a bed, forced to undergo treatment.
They had visions of a screaming pained girl, a mother helpless to save her child, and big brother
dispensing poison to an innocent girl whirled through our collective mind. From an ethics
standpoint, it is generally wrong to force medical treatment on anyone, particularly when there are
cultural and religious factors to be taken into consideration. I am reminded of cases involving
Christian Scientists who believe that any traditional medical intervention is contrary to their
cultural and religious views. Oftentimes, in cases involving a seriously ill child, parental rights are

Beowulf Is Honorable
Throughout all the battles he is fighting, and the outcomes of them. Beowulf shows he is
courageous, has strength, and is honorable. Beowulf demonstrates these characteristics of an
archetypal epic hero, In the epic poem Beowulf . First of all, in the epic poem Beowulf , Beowulf
substantiates that he is courageous, has strength, and is honorable. Beowulfdemonstrates his courage
through the battles he is fighting and his men. None of his men are willing to go out or join
Beowulf during the battles. This can be seen when Beowulf is fighting his last battle and none of
his men give him a helping hand, None of his comrades Came to him, helped him, his brave and
noble Followers; they ran for their lives, fled deep in a wood . This went in account for Beowulf s
courageousness. Moreover, Beowulf has astronomical amount of strength, and Beowulf s Battle
against Grendelsaid it all. This goes to accommodation when Beowulf has to use his bare hands,
And was instantly seized himself, claws bent back as Beowulf leaned up on one arm...nowhere

Why Does The Butterfly Population Decline
butterflies are traveling pollinators that migrate over 3000 miles in the winter when the weather
begins to get cold (Smith). The National Geographic article and video by Lindsay N. Smith says
that the butterfly population has decreased 90% in size over the last twenty years (Smith).
Population decline comes from a variety of aspects, but the most impactful is the food that the
caterpillars are eating and a lack of food on their migration. Monarch caterpillars are born in
milkweed plants and eat the leaves before they grow into butterflies. In 20 years milkweed plants
have dropped to 21% the amount of that they were previously (Smith). Many scientists are
attributing this to the massive monoculture fields throughout the migration pattern that

To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell Essay
To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell It is a metaphysical poem, which means its lyric
contains many striking images, is very intense and uses strong metaphors. It is concerned with a
young man who is trying to persuade a young woman to have sex with him by charming and
rushing her into it because he only has one thing on his mind. In the poem he uses three different
arguments, flattery, fear and passion to persuade her to his point of view. In the first section
Andrew Marvell uses flattery, he does this by telling her that if he had all the time in the world he
would use it by telling her how beautiful she is and stare into her eyes but he doesn t have this

metaphorically paying for what he wants. The second stanza based on fear and persuading her by
using strong and powerful images almost scares her into having sex with him. He uses the most

Search For Truth
The historian and the search for truth
A historian is a person who studies and writes about the past and is regarded as an authority on it.
Historians are concerned with the continuous, methodical narrative and research of past events as
relating to the human race; as well as the study of all history in time. History, in its broadest sense,
is the totality of all past events, although a more realistic definition would limit it to the known
past. Of all the fields of serious study and literary effort, history may be the hardest to define
precisely, because the attempt to uncover past events and formulate an intelligible account of them
necessarily involves the use and influence of many auxiliary disciplines and literary forms. The

The usual test for a statement of fact is verifiability, that is whether it can be shown to correspond
to experience. Standard reference works are often used to check facts. Scientific facts are verified
by repeatable experiments. E. H. Carr in his 1961 volume, what is History? argues that the inherent
biases from the gathering of facts makes the objective truth of any historical perspective idealistic
and impossible. Facts are, like fish in the Ocean, of which we may only happen to catch a few,
only an indication of what is below the surface. Even a dragnet cannot tell us for certain what it
would be like to live below the Ocean s surface. Even if we do not discard any facts (or fish)
presented, we will always miss the majority; the site of our fishing, the methods undertaken, the
weather and even luck play a vital role in what we will catch. Additionally, the composition of
history is inevitably made up by the compilation of many different bias of fact finding all
compounded over time. He concludes that for a historian to attempt a more objective method, one
must accept that history can only aspire to a conversation of the present with the past and that one s
methods of fact gathering should be openly examined. As with science, historical truth and facts
will therefore change over time and reflect only the present consensus (if that).
A historical fact is a fact

Abstract The JPEG 2000 image compression standard is designed for a broad range of data
compression applications. The Discrete WaveletTransformation (DWT) is central to the signal
analysis and is important in JPEG 2000 and is quite susceptible to computer induced errors.
However, advancements in Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) provide a new vital
option for the efficient implementation of DSP algorithms. The main goal of project is to design
multiplier less and high speed digital filters to design DWT. The convolution and lifting based
approach posses hardware complexity due to multiplier and long critical paths. The Distributed
arithmetic architecture is implemented to achieve multiplier less computation in DWT filtering,
it is based on Look up table approach, which may lead to a reduction of power consumption and
the hardware complexity. DA is basically a bit serial computational operation that forms an inner
product of a pair of vectors in a single direct step. To speed up the process the parallel DA is
implemented. In the parallel implementation, the input is applied sample by sample in a bit parallel
form.

The Death Of Sickle Cell Disease
The purpose of this essay it to determine whether or not Jonathon Jackson, a 30 year old air
traffic controller whom has been faithful to his company and job for over eight years that has
recently discovered he has sickle cell anemia, should be dismissed from his job regarding his
genetic test results. Sickle cell anaemia is the most severe form of sickle cell disease and is a
genetic disease of the red blood cells (Gibbons, 2015). Red blood cells have a disk like form
which allows them the ability to travel through blood vessels. Although in people with sickle
cell, the red blood cells form an abnormal crescent shape which makes them rigid and sticky as
shown in Diagram 3 below. This causes the sickled cells to get trapped in small vessels which
blocks blood from reaching different parts of the body leading to pain, tissue damage and many
more symptoms (University of Utah, 2015). The term anaemia comes from having a shortage of
red blood cells in your blood which occurs because sickled cells only last up to 10 20 days while
normal red blood cells last approximately 120 days. The name sickle comes from an old farm tool
known as a sickle as shown in Diagram 4 below which represents the same shape as curved
sickled cells (Petch, 2012). Sickle cell disease affects millions of people worldwide and is most
common in those who have ancestors from Africa, the Mediterranean, The Arabian Peninsula and
Spanish speaking areas in South America. People with sickle cell anaemia on

The choice of Morrisons for me is the uniqueness of its business strategy and steady growth
patterns. With the acquisition of Safeway, Morrisons has been able to consolidate the gains of the
synergy in a slow but progressive manner. This makes the company an interesting case study.
Furthermore, in the current economic climate where businesses are failing and competition is
fierce it is also important to see through its business trend whether Morrisons is prepared for future
challenges. The supermarket chain industry is very dynamic in the UK and there is a continuous
fierce battle for market share. In the light of the fact that the United Kingdom is in a recession it
would be interesting to see how prepared the company is financially and strategically to survive in
these times.
Project Objectives
The project objectives are as follows;
1. To assess the business and financial performance of Morrison s over the three year period to 3rd

2. To review the year on year performance of Morrison s with a view to assess the effectiveness of
its strategies its readiness for the future.
3. To evaluate Morrison s competitive position in the grocery/supermarket industry.

Communication and Why We Need Effective Communication
Introduction
With every interaction, whether active or passive, we find ourselves communicating with other
people. Even our silence connotes some intention, which others may interpret at their discretion.
Whether by artifact or by attendance, every human being constantly participates in the process of
communication
Defining Communication
Communication means exchange of ideas, views, opinion, understanding, feelings, emotions, facts
or information between two or more persons by any sources or medium.
Communication is not only the essence of being human, but also a vital property of life... John A.

The importance of communication is best understood when there is a lack of it. Listening,
understanding and interpreting are as much integral to communication as words verbal, written or
gestured. How we communicate or express ourselves goes a great way towards determining how
our expressions are interpreted.
To quote Karl Popper, It is impossible to speak in such a way that you cannot be misunderstood .
Faulty or incomplete communication can completely mar the purpose of communicating and may
result in damaging consequences. This is where understanding the importance of communication
and communicating the right way comes into picture. Not everyone is equally endowed with the
ability to effectively express himself and this is where the importance of communication skills can
be truly fathomed. The importance of communication is equal in every walk of like, be it in
personal, professional or social life.
Components of Communication
Communication is effective when a concise and clear message is delivered well, received
successfully, and understood fully. The process of communication has the following distinct
components: the sender the message the medium the receiver feedback. The Communication

We will not fail to note that Feminil manufacturing company is based in Dutch located in Spain.

Symbols In Zadie Smith s Embassy Of Cambodia
What does struggle mean to the average person? It may mean writing a trying essay, preparing
for a job interview, or even something as simple as riding a bike. However, in The Embassy of
Cambodia, Zadie Smith shows readers the real meaning of struggle through the main character, an
unpaid housemaid by the name of Fatou. There are many protruding themes in the story, but the
most prevalent moral of the story is, no matter how many times the big guy may knock one down,
they must always get up, and never let him win. In The Embassy of Cambodia, the game
badminton and the Embassy itself are symbols for Fatou and the struggles she faces every day. In
the story, each chapter is labeled with what seems to be a badminton score, ending with 0 21,...

Fatou lingers by the Embassy every Monday before her swim despite the risks. The reader gets
the sense that she is drawn to the Embassy because it reminds her of herself. Similarly, the Old
and New People of Willesden and Andrew are intrigued by Fatou and drawn to her (Smith 13).
The Embassy, on the other hand, gets much more attention. The Embassy is a normal building,
but it s placed in a peculiar location. Embassies are typically in the heart of a city, or at least near
it, but this Embassy is located in the middle of the suburbs by a health center and a retirement
home. This mysterious building is out of place in the world, much like how Fatou is out of
place in her world. She traveled from place to place with her father before finally settling in
London to be an underappreciated housemaid that barely passes as a human rather than a slave.
As a result, she has built tall walls like the Embassy s and has become reserved and closed off to
a degree. Despite the fact that Andrew is a nice, intelligent, dorky guy that Fatou really wants to
like some part of her rebel[s] against him, some unholy part (Smith 8). This reflects the exclusive
closed off nature of the Embassy. When the Embassy gets a basketball goal in the back of it Fatou
waits and waits for someone to play basketball, but it never does. She s waiting for change. The
goal moves closer to her and still, nothing happens. The change in the Embassy

There is an obvious demand for petrol, as almost everyone who is able, drives or rides a vehicle
which requires fuel to run. So it could be argued that retail petrol stations don t necessarily set
their own prices, but go off supplier guidelines which base their fuel pricing strategy on demand,
Demand based pricing sets prices according to the level of aggregate or individual customer
demand in the market. (Elliott et al. 2010 p. 250) Elliott et al. also continue to write that both
Caltex Woolworths and Coles Express hold more than 60% of the Australian fuel market share
(2010 p.268) so high demand from their suppliers will enable them to lower their fuel prices and
therefore gain more customers, earning higher profits.
Pricing of other products offered by retail petrol outlets such as bread or milk tend to have the
opportunity to be competitive and more fairly priced than a standard petrol station, the major
grocery companies behind retail petrol outlets like Woolworths and Coles focus on gaining more
ground off one and other, price drops are reflected in store and this also proves more profitable,
because consumers are drawn into purchasing something they wouldn t normally associate with
their petrol.
Promotion
An important aspect in the success of retail petrol outlets is in their promotion, or the way in which
their fuels and other products are portrayed to potential customers. There are many numbers of
ways in which retail petrol

Single Parents And Socioeconomic Status
Background Information Children who are raised from birth in two parent families have better
cogitative and behavioral outcomes compared with children who have ever lived in single parent
families, more than 80% of which are headed by single mothers (Jaffe, Moffitt Taylor, 2003, pg.
109). Children develop a different personalitydevelopment when they grow up with no Father or
with a father. The percentage is higher than 50% of people who are single mothers and may be
increasing. The socioeconomic status plays an important role because single mothers have lower
educational attainment, less social support, and poorer psychological well being (Jaffe, Moffitt
Capsi, 2003, pg. 109). On the other hand, two parent have a better socioeconomic status and their
children have better educational achievement and adjustment because the kids have the support of
both of their parents and the two parents are supporting each other to give the best for their kids
(Jaffe, Moffitt, Taylor, 2003, pg. 109).
One candidate psychological feature which might mediate a relationship between father absence
and early coitus is impulsivity. Impulsivity has been linked not only with aggressive behavior,
but also with willingness to engage in casual sex with multiple partners (Boothroyd Cross, 2017,
pg. 2). The Father absence may play different roles for each gender. When a child who is a boy
grows up, they could become aggressive or may think in a feminine way. According to Boothroyd

The Importance Of Pearl In The Puritan Society
For about as long as organized religion has existed, faith has been passed down from parent to
child. The children are willed by their parents to follow a set religion and adhere completely to its
values, beliefs and rules. The Puritan time in America was no different. In fact it was likely the era
in which religion and adherence to it was taken the most seriously. The Puritans worship of religion
was a dictating factor when it came to laws, customs, and societal actions. In the novel The Scarlet
Letterby Nathaniel Hawthorne, the portrayal and treatment of Hester s daughter, Pearl, in the Puritan
society develops the theme that religion is an oppressive system of beliefs that dictates the actions
and thoughts of its followers.
Ever since her birth, Pearl s behavior has been a bit off relative to the normal Puritan standard. A
typical Puritan child would not play as a present day child would. They would mature quickly to
help with various chores and other duties that had to be done. Pearl, however, was different. She
was described on multiple occasions as being wild as she truly explored her freedom, and let her
imagination work freely. This is prevalent where Hawthorne writes about Pearl that, At home,
within and around her mother s cottage, Pearl wanted not a wide and various circle of
acquaintance. The spell of life went forth from her ever creative spirit, and communicated itself to
a thousand objects, as a torch kindles a flame wherever it may be applied.

Business Marketing Of Foreign Buyers
Part II. Active marketing to foreign buyers
Chapter 22. Decisions to make based on demand for your real estate and marketing budget
To market to foreign buyers or not? This is the same powerful question as the famous To be or
not to be? As a real estate seller of just one private property or a developer with many properties
or a realtor you have to answer this question to yourself, having been equipped with all the
preliminary information you can gather before you start doing anything. Marketing costs money
and takes time, so, without thoughtful consideration and a solid marketing plan with a budget you
do not have to start spending money and time. There are obvious situations where and when it is
the only possibility to sell your property: your country or area is in economic and financial
problems and thus local buyers do not buy. You have to answer Yes . There are less obvious
situations when the local real estate market is in balance more or less right now, but you hear a lot
around how other sellers, developers and realtors benefit from selling real estate to foreigners.
Your choice then. Even in a hot seller s market when it is no problem to receive a quick offer
from a local buyer, sometimes it makes sense to market to foreigners anyway as you can get a
higher price from the foreign buyers under the circumstances. If you answer Yes to marketing to the
foreign buyers, the next question is To market to the foreign buyers in what

and the inverse regioisomeric 1 acyl 3 alkylindoles can be prepared directly from a common set
of precursor materials and using similar synthetic strategies. The EI mass spectra for these
isomers show a number of unique ions which allow for the differentiation of the 1 alkyl 3
acylindole compounds from the inverse regioisomeric 1 acyl 3 alkylindoles. The base peak at m
/z 214 in the 1 n pentyl 3 benzoylindole represents the M 77 cation fragment resulting from the
loss of the phenyl group and this ion is not observed in the inverse isomer. The 1 benzoyl 3 n
pentylindole inverse regioisomer shows a base peak at m/z 105 for the benzoyl cation. Thus,
these two base peaks are the result of fragmentation initiated at the carbonyl oxygen for both
isomers. The 1 pentyl 3 benzoylindole is characterized by the strong intensity carbonyl band at
1703 cm 1 while the amide carbonyl appears as a strong band of equal intensity at 1681 cm 1 in the
1 benzoyl 3 pentyl regioisomer. 1. Introduction A number of synthetic cannabinoids including

Play Review Of Hay Fever By Taylor Rascher
Hay Fever was a comical play with a strong message. The actors throughout this play steadily used
others to gain their own attention. The message this play left behind after many laughs was do not

The space was a well constructed thrust stage however, the stage was not raised off the ground and
the seats appeared to be mobile which lead to the belief that this is an Environmental Theater. As
for the layout of the stage, there was a couch and a table in center stage for the first two acts, a

All of the family members acted genuine. There was one actor who stood out as a perfect fit for
his character. Taylor Rascher played Simon Bliss and played him perfectly. Rascher s character
Simon was a young man who was dramatic and romantic so much so it was almost to the point
of ridiculousness. Rascher stole the show in the first act when he was romancing with Michelle
Luz, who plays Myra Arundel. Rascher was displaying his love for Michelle Luz (Myra) in the
most dramatic of fashions; he was playing the Bliss game of pretending to be in complete love
with someone and then a moment later change his mind. Rascher was proclaiming his love with
elegant speeches and coddling up next to her and eventually kissing her. Rascher made this
scene particularly hilarious because he was completely over the top in typical Bliss fashion. Of
course, all of this was for naught because Luz ended up kissing Joe Hubbard s character David

Essay On Alexander
To him, he is a more powerful person to come across, but the people don t always know about him,
so any wrong idea about him might cause problem. Thinking that people who are different from
where they re from, could make it hard to make other understand when learning about this person
that the people of Indiahave no history knowledge about. It is good to help, by learning a thing or
more when exchanging knowledge about the two nation. The idea soon developed to the point
when india learn more about alexander background after their encounter. It good to know about

version of this story of him is true but goes with it. Either it s true or not, the Hindu like to heard
which version is more believable to them.
Something is very interesting that I learn from the lecture, is about not realizing what they should
have realize until then. Only the indian nationalist always ask, why do our people are enslaved
by foreigner. Like since they came to india, they pretty take control without putting up a fight to
occupy the country. Not only that, they don t know if they any proper religious, or any proper
founder, either church, books or any place to worship. All they to find is what it is made for them,
by them and not the foreigner. Because india is having trouble, having anything that is made proper

A Summary On The Pestle Of Renault
PESTEL is analytical instrument that identifies and analyses the external influences on 10 years
period and clarify they way an organisation should deal with the key external and internal factors
that need to be taken into account in order to accomplish any organisations intiatives. The term
PESTEL refers to the: Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Environmental and Legal factors.
These factors are significant especially in the global automobileindustry where billions of several
large brands are competing for market share. Since its foundation in the 19th century, this sector has
increased and become an important aspect of today s economy in terms of revenue. In this essay,
the organisation of Renaultwill be presented.
The French automobile manufacturer Renault takes its name from Fouis Renault, the company s
founder, and is currently the fourth largest automaker in the world. It was created by Fouis, Marcel,
and Fernand Renault, and also Thomas Evert and Julian Wyer, with Fouis Renault being the main
force behind the SociГ©tГ© Renault FrГЁres. From 1944 to 1946 the government nationalised the
industry Renault with the aim of curbing the production. (Histoire de France). By its activities
Renault is now one of the most significant automobile firms, that is capable to adapt itself in several
contexts from 1898 until today. (Jean Louis Loubet).
In the early 21st century, the automotive industry, which had already achieved a level of maturity
and high structure,

How To Invade Iraq
Support To invade Iraq Hindsight makes everyone geniuses. With hindsight, more people would
have bought shares in Microsoft when it first came out. Ditto for Amazon, Facebook, something
called Berkshire Hathaway, and shares in, what was then, a small retailer based in Arkansas
Walmart. We do not have hindsight. We can not guarantee success in everything we do. If the Iraq
Waronly lasted 100 days, we would not have argued about whether there were weapons of mass
destruction. It did not, on both counts. It lasted 3,195 days from March 20, 2003 till December 18,
2011.
If we look back on the events surrounding the war, we can understand how it happened.
Surprisingly, however, when we understood how, it was easier to understand and support the why.
In March 2003, the United States initiated a preemptive war on Iraq. Iraq had nuclear capability
termed weapons of mass destruction . Iraq had previously used chemical weapons on Iran and on
its own people. Iraq supported terrorists including the architect of the 911 ... Show more content on

As for why, we can understand how brutal the Iraq regime appeared, and in a world where threats
grow, the Iraq War was a preemptive war and an unpopular war but not a war without cause.
Oppose Not to invade Iraq There are those who say that Saddam Hussein was an evil man and the
world is better off without him. There are those who support the Iraq War and say the prospect
that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction was sufficient grounds for the invasion.
There are those who say that Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden had nearly a decade long
relationship and possible alliance and that justified the U.S. Invasion of Iraq. Whether you support
those views or not, it does not justify the following costs:
4,488: U.S. service personnel killed,

Wonderland Satire
In Carroll s Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, Alice falls down a rabbit hold and attempts to
navigate a nonsensical world within in her own imagination. Carroll s children s tale, written during
the Victorian period and published in 1865, incorporates parodied features of Victorian society and
culture that Carroll disagreed with and found to be nonsensical. The author contested the
sanctimonious and preachy moralizing that was taught to children through literature and adult
instruction. In Carroll s Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, the author uses Alice s encounters with
the creatures in Wonderland to critique and explore the weaknesses in Victorian values and the
education system through his parody of didactic poetry geared towards the... Show more content on

By ordering Alice to repeat poetry, the demanding creatures remind Alice of the teachers she has
been instructed by, as Alice has become accustomed to associating learning with the regiment of
having her knowledge tested based on memorization and recitation. The poem Alice recites is a
parody of another moralistic Isaac Watts poem titled The Sluggard. Carroll s version, Tis the
Voice of the Lobster completely alters the original poem aside from the rhyme and meter. While
the moral of The Sluggard teaches children about the negative effects of leading a sluggish,
unproductive lifestyle, Carroll s parodied version is a tale about a lobster who acts as if he is
not terrified by sharks yet his voice has a timid and tremulous sound when sharks are near (80).
Carroll s poem does not retain any of the moral elements that are included in Watts s poem. Alice
hardly knew what she was saying (80) during another failed attempt at the recitation of a poem she
has worked to memorize. Following Alice s recitation, the Mock Turtle says, What is the use of
repeating all that stuff...if you don t explain it as you go on? (82). The Mock Turtle s question is
reflective of Carroll s critique on the Victorian style of educational technique that Alice and
presumably other Victorian children had trouble utilizing outside of the classroom, which is finding
meaning in the lessons being taught. Carroll makes clear his view on the Victorian period learning
technique of memorization and recitation being ineffective at educating children

My Choice Of Organization Is Leaning Toward The Floating...
My choice of organization is leaning towards the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical
Center. I have learned so much about the organization as a solid partner of Tufts NEMC during
one of my Strategic and Planning Management classes. Similar to Tufts NEMC, the Floating
Hospital for Children has a rich history as it was established in 1894 as a hospitalship, sailing in
BostonHarbor. Back then, people believed that fresh air was the most favorable alternative in
treating ailing children. It has continued to provide medical care to sick children while cruising
Boston Harbor for the next three decades. It has then upgraded its facilities and expanded
amenities to having an inpatient service and onboard research facility. However, at some point in
the spring of 1927, the floating hospital was ruined by fire. As luck would have it, none had been
on board. Four years later, another facility was built this time on land providing a comprehensive
service pediatric facility with ongoing research activities. In 1965, the facility has officially merged
with Tufts Medical Center. Tufts is the oldest permanent medical facility in the nation. Samuel
Adams and Paul Revere originally established it at the Boston Dispensary in 1796. Despite the
former s strong historical foundation, Floating Hospital for Children has kept hold of its character
and celebrated tradition. Moreover, it was highlighted in the case analysis that the hospital has been
beset by financial

What Is The Relationship Between Inequality And Inequality
Poverty, Modernity and inequality are amongst the most common words of the English language.
According to dictionary.com, poverty means the condition of being poor , modernity means the
state of being modern and inequality means lack of equality. These three words are interrelated.
Modernity (being modern) is something which only the rich can afford. The poor rarely get a
chance of being modernized due to a lack of money and other facilities. Since the poor are not
modern enough they are subjected to inequality in everyday tasks. This paper will discuss how the
poor are treated and the relationship between the words modernity, inequality and poverty.

Our daily needs are actually their luxuries. The poems also show that treating the poor badly is
considered normal. The poor people themselves have accepted the way they are treated and do
nothing to fight against it. If the poor people take a stand and fight for their rights they can
actually overthrow their masters and live better lives. This point is especially focused in Faiz s
poem Kutte . (Faiz ahmed faiz, 1943)
The poem The nobodys by Edvardo Galeano tells us that the poor never get lucky. Their dreams
never come true no matter how hard they pray or wish for it. The poet also tells us that along
with all other things the life of the poor is also considered as worthless. The poet says that The
nobodies, the ones who are worth less than the bullet that kills them. Which shows that even if they
are dead it is not considered as something big because their life has no worth since they are not rich
enough. (Edvaardo

Literature Review On Safety Culture
CHAPTER TWO: LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 Safety Cultures in the Workplace
Safety culture in an organization can be described as the product of individual and group values,
attitudes, perceptions, competencies and behaviour patterns that determine the commitment to, and
the style and proficiency of, an organization s health and safety management (Hughes and Ferrett
2016: 67). As such, organizations that embrace a positive safety culture are characterised by
communications that are founded on mutual trust, through shared perceptions of the importance of
safety, and by confidence in the efficacy of preventive measures (Hughes and Ferrett 2016: 67).
Hale (2000) reiterates the same notion by adding that safety culture is not only a component of
organizational culture, but also has an impact on the safety level within the organization.
Safety cultures in the healthcare There has been a lot of focused attention on patient safety by
policy makers, practitioners and academicians in the last few years (Brennan et al, 1991; Wilson et
al, 1995; Vincent et al, 2000) stemming from studies that have indicated the existence of problems
with patient safety (Mannion, Davies and Marshall, 2005: 23).
Various safety problems that have been noted in the health sector can be argued to be caused by
common cultural influences. First, is the problem of blame culture that is prevalent in most health
institutions (Mannion, Davies and Marshall, 2005: 23). Pearn, Mulrooney and Payne (1998: 11)

How Did Thomas Paine Influence American Society
Thomas Paine was a man that was very influential for the America society. He was a leader, and
activist that made America the way to it is today. He was born in 1737 in England and was an
excise officer until he met Benjamin Franklin in London. This was during 1774, and Benjamin
Franklin was one of the influences for Thomas Paineemigrating to the Americas or the colonies at
the time. He was the right man at the right time because he expressed and used his public
speaking skills. He gave Americans a sense of rebellion at a time that it need to be demonstrated.
His most famous pamphlet was Common Sense. A term that can be used to this day for

Braime (2012), Social media is an essential marketing tool. Not only can it expose your work to a
world wide audience, but it also gives you a chance to convert those audience members into paying
clients. (para. 1). The choice to move to social media advertising is an appropriate choice to connect
with families and professionals to get word out about McBride Financial Services.
Radio and television advertisements focus on a wide variety of age groups. They break down the
schedule to show shows at different times. The Prime Times are from 7PM to 9PM when families
can watch a show together. They strategically place particular advertising to market to these
individuals. Research must be done in order to determine which television and radio stations have
the highest volume of listeners and viewers that fit this genre.
Newspaper advertisements focus on individuals that are around the retirement age and will only
be effective in areas that have a high population of individuals that fit into this age group. Research
into various areas to see where these target populations are highest will be important to determine
where to advertise as well as in which newspapers, and then McBride Financial Services will see
the business from the retiree targets draw to them.
Internet advertisements should be done strategically using niche marketing. This is a process of
advertising a service or product on certain websites that potential clients would be viewing.

Similarities Between Latin American And Caribbean
Latin American and Caribbean are one of the richest countries when it comes to natural resources.
The natural resources that they have are some of the most useful ones in the world and that
consists of gold, oil, iron, sugar and many more. World Bank stated that Latin America produced
around 80 percent of the world s silver in the 16th through 19th centuries, fueling the monetary
systems of not only Europe, but China and India as well . This shows that Latin America had so
much natural resources that others depended on them. Since Latin America and the Caribbean has
all of this resources, they need to develop their production and raise their GDP. Also there are no

During the past few years the tourism in these countries has increased which helps them get
more money in the country and make the economy grow a little but this is not going to help the
country s GDP increase a lot because this is only one part of the income that contributes to all of
the Latin American and Caribbean countries. In Regional Economic Outlook: Western
Hemisphere Northern Spring, Southern Chills It was stated that Latin America and the
Caribbean are the known spot for tourist destinations . This shows us that the Latin America and
the Caribbean are beautiful places but their economy just isn t doing the best. Also tourism is
not the only source of income for the countries because these countries also hves oil which is
one of the leading asset in Latin America and Caribbean economy. There was also a sharp drop
in oil prices in 2014 and cheaper oil is creating significant relief, which is cutting import bills by 3
4 percentage points of the GDP on average. This helps other countries look at Latin America and
Caribbean as places to get cheap oil. This will ultimately help Latin America and Caribbean get
some money for their economy which will increase the

Legalization Of Alcohol
The Legalization of Alcohol throughout the U.S. has been a social injustice issue in today s society.
Some issues throughout the time is that when people drink, their minds don t cooperate with their
bodies in result of getting drunk, having health issues, having violent tendencies, and also can kill
you faster than any other drugs including marijuana which is an illicit THC drug that comes from
the hemp plant affecting people differently around certain areas of the brain. During Prohibition
around 1920, Crimes increased, because illegal activity was required to sell illegal alcohol. Criminal
activity became organized and led to the rise of powerful crime syndicates that involved murder,

Another issue surrounded with legalizing Alcohol is the drinking age limit. Currently the legal
drinking age for beer and wine is 18 and liquor is 21 for the U.S. Simply that has a huge effect and
a big impact on underage drinkers. According to the 11 Facts About Teens and
Alcohol. In 2012, nearly 72% of students have consumed alcohol by the end of high school, and
more than 37% have done so towards the end of 8th grade. Underage drinkers account for 12%
of all of the alcohol consumed in the U.S. The average age teen boys first try alcohol is age 11,
for teen girls it s 13. Nearly 10 million young people, ages 12 to 20, reported that they ve
consumed alcohol in the past 30 days. Teens who start drinking before age 15 years are 5 times
more likely to develop alcohol dependence or abuse later in life than those who begin drinking at
or after the legal age of 21. In 2010, there were approximately 200,000 emergency rooms visits by
teens under age 21 for injuries and other conditions linked to alcohol. Teens who drink heavily are
three times more likely to try and hurt themselves than those who don t drink. The worst part when

kick. Currently, the knowledge of mine is that there is no best way to kick a football. I know that the
only way to have a best way to kick a football is by how you like kicking. I understand different
people have different ways of kicking a football. But I think that it takes a lot of time to be able

For example, the toe poke kick only gets contact with your toes, which could affect the accuracy
of your kick. The distance will never be changed no matter what kick style you use. That is
because the power of your kick never matters on how you kick the ball. But, the soccer style kick
you use your entire side of the foot so you have more of a chance of kicking the ball straight. The
way you position your body could depend on how you kick. If you are in a slouchy stance, then
you won t get a good kick. But, if you stand in an athletic stance then you can get the most out of
your kick. An athletic stance your knees are slightly bent, your resting on the balls of your feet,
and your body weight is centered at your hips. Place the foot that your are not kicking with
skightly in front of the kicking foot. Toes on both feet should be facing toward the place of
contact. The hardest part is taking the correct number of steps. The first step, the jab step, is
optional. You take a small step towards the ball. The second step, the drive step, is a long stride
towards the ball with your kicking foot. The third step, is the most important step. It is taken by
your plant foot and put on the side of the football. Because you are lined up behind and to the side

Buck V. Bell Case Study
Module 3 Activity: Buck v. Bell Since the time of the court s decision, what changes have been
made in the lives of individuals who are intellectually disabled? There have been widespread
societal changes in the way in which individuals with intellectual disabilities are treated since the
court made its decision in the 1920s. These changes lead to those with disabilities being able to
participate in more areas of normal life. This movement to remove barriers for people with
disabilities is called normalization (Hallahan, Kauffman, Pullen, 2015). Prior to the 1970 s, those
with intellectual disabilities were placed in institutions, but after this time there was an effort to
keep people with intellectual disabilities in their own communities. This change has both positive
and negative implications. While this brought people with intellectual disabilities back to their
communities and helped them integrate into a more normal way of life, many are now in jails or
homeless. A second piece of normalization that is particular to education is inclusion. This is the
practice in which students with exceptionalities are included in a general education classroom with
their peers (Hallahan, Kauffman, Pullen, 2015). This practice is also controversial, as there are a
myriad of opinions regarding which students... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Reflection About Values Life these days takes a toll on us when we least expect it. It is important to remain yourself and focus in when curveballs are thrown. By doing this we are exhibiting to our issues, consequences good with the bad, and tribulations that we are ready for whatever is thrown our way. Lessons taught to us at a young age by our parents, peers, and other outside influences help mold our decisions. As an African American female growing up on the Southside of Chicago outside influences helped deter me away from a lot of the decisions and actions I could have made which could have taken me on a different path. Each day growing up values were introduced to us that are used now as an adult. Growing up we don t think much about how we live, who we will be in great depth, and what our values are, but over time that changes. A lot of my strengths, values, and interest mesh well and have geared me to a path of success because those lessons make me who I am. Values are core beliefs that influence everyone daily whether we are intentionally utilizing them or not. Ultimately, those values measure our worth and show how important something may mean to us. A lot of the values that have stuck with me through life because of my grandparents who I spent a lot of time with as a child, and eventually they were court ordered as my legal guardians. One important value I use today and I remind myself always is to be open minded. This is a very important skill for me being an athlete, nanny, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Examples Of Microtransactions So what exactly are microtransactions? Microtransactions can be defined as the exchange of real money for virtual goods. It is a system where users can purchase virtual goods via micropayments. hence the term microtransaction ( Microtransaction 2017.) This type of business model is common in free to play games and is typically used to speed up progression within the game itself. However, some developers have decided to incorporate microtransactions despite customers already paying the full price for the game. While this is not necessarily an issue if the goods are cosmetic and have no effect on the core gameplay, it is an issue if it provides users who pay for offered goods with an unfair advantage over free to play players. One might... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion, this was a blatant money grab by EA and in no way ethical because they were not acting in the interest of their clients (the users) and utilizing us as a means to an end. They could have made the same game sans the microtransactions and have made a reasonable profit from the cost of the base game itself, but instead chose to make a greedy decision to increase profit margins for what would have been a successful game regardless. Had I been the one to make the decision, I would have lowered the time sink required to unlock heroes by a substantial amount, and limited the microtransactions to cosmetic items. That way, the needs of the customers would have been satisfied, but the company would have still made more profit than it normally would. In summary, the decision was not ethical because they acted against the interest of the customers and instead decided to further their own profits. To understand why microtransactions have become so prevalent one has to understand the history of them first. Microtransactions date as far back as early 2005 with the release of the Xbox Live Marketplace. Back then, players could purchase virtual goods such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Capital Reef National Park The Capital Reef National Park is located in south/central Utah, and is part of the great Colorado Plateau. An area of 378 square miles, the Capital Reef National Park is just one of many national parks located near the four corners (Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico). Like it was mentioned in the prompt, most of the rock formation in the Capital Reef is very similar to that of the other national parks, however, there is one geologic feature in particular that attributes to its uniqueness. Other than its unique name, Capital Reef lies along a north south trending monocline, called the Water Pocket Fold. (pp.56 text book.) Waterpocket Fold derives its name from depressions in the sandstone which hold water after a rainfall known as waterpockets, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Ethnic And National Identities Of Koreans Essay Ethnic and national identities of Koreans in Kazakhstan by Yekaterina Pak On March 1 2013, in the apartment of my older brother, in small town in the north of Kazakhstan, everything was prepared for the celebration of my niece s first year birthday that Koreans usually call tol . Small low wooden table was covered with different subjects symbolizing various good wishes for our little girl s future: a spool of thread for long life, a book for knowledge, bowl of rice for prosperity, money for richness and others. My niece was wearing special Korean dress hanbok that was brought from Korea and was handed over among my relatives whenever they have their own tol . The tradition of first year birthday has been always kept in my family as a reminiscence of our ethnic belonging. Currently in Kazakhstan live about one hundred thousands ethnic Koreans whose families were deported to the Soviet Kazakhstan almost eighty years ago from the Far East. Stalin s repression politics regarding ethnic minorities who were living next to the borders has significantly transformed identities of the deported people. How do Koreans in Kazakhstan experience their ethnic and national identities in the context of multi ethnic state? Living all my life in Kazakhstan and being a third generation of ethnic Koreans living outside the place of ethnic origin, I have never questioned my identities and have never thought how important it can be. In order to investigate my own quest for identity in this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Navajo Region Analysis Located at the intersection of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah lies the Four Corners. Their borders form a 90 degree angle. This vernacular region contains deep influences from the culture surrounding it. Their boundaries are not physical, but more so imaginary lines that are perpendicularly intersected. The region resides on the northwestern edge of the Navajo Nation Reservation. The Navajo Nations operates the site, which is about as large as West Virginal, and has strong influences from the culture of the Navajo tribe (Seminara 2013). This Native American reservation is the largest area of land occupied by a U.S. tribe. This region is in the middle of the desert so there is not a specific large city or town that the region centers itself around. The heart of this region is less of a town and more of a community of people. The local culture of the Navajo tribe and their Hispanic influence is the heart of the region. The cities within and around the region have a strong relationship with the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The formal culture region of this area is dominated by the Navajo, which extends into each of the four states that compose the physical 4 corners boundary. With 170,000 native speakers and an area of more than 27,000 square miles, the Navajo are the principal cultural group in the region. The overlap between the vernacular region and the Navajo Nation can most easily be seen by the attractions and souvenirs the locations offer. For example, dreamcatchers, Kachina dolls, Navajo rugs, pottery, and jewelry are the regions priority goods being sold in shops around the area, according to Wikitravel, a website devoted to the distribution of travel information for this location, and many others. In the other hand there are sports that are exercised with only two persons, which are the opponents. Many times spectators just watch these sports but never think, much less, experience the challenges that athletes face. In the sport of boxingthere are many effects psychologically that boxers face every time they set there feet on a ring. In life people go to college so that with their education one day they can get a well paying career. Some other reasons to why people box is to prove to themselves of what they are capable of doing as well as for the fame. • 8. Analysis Of Hawthorne s Conception Of Human Nature... Analysis of Hawthorne s Conception of Human Nature through his Stories Nathaniel Hawthorne was a brilliant writer of many stories, especially dealing with the nature of human beings, with themes including religion, perfection, and the natural world. His works have been lauded for their treatment of the human condition. Several stories, such as The Birthmark , Rappaccini s Daughter , Young Goodman Brown, and The Black Veil , have been chosen to explain Hawthorne s understanding of human nature. The Birthmark especially explains the pursuit of human perfection and the notion that nature cannot be overcome by humankind. Rappaccini s Daughter details the human temptation to sin. Young Goodman Brown expresses the belief that once one sins, they will always be a sinner, cannot atone for their sins, and must pay for it. Finally, The Black Veil considers the idea of inherent sin, where the Black Veil represents all of sin in the town. Through his stories, Hawthorne conceptualizes his perspective on human nature by considering that because human beings pursue perfection, and are not content with their inherent imperfection, they experience the loss of their humanity. Hawthorne s stories develop a narrative that explores the nature of inherent imperfection and sin. In Young Goodman Brown, the Devil figure says to his children that, Evil is the nature of Mankind. Evil must be your only happiness (9). The Devil figure speaking to his followers clearly states that sin is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Discrimination Of Girls In China History: Discrimination of girls in China comes down to the preference of boys over girls at birth. The roots to this preference can be found deep within the Chinese culture. Boys are wanted as they will carry on the family name and care for the parents in old age. Girls on the other hand, are seen as a waste of time as they will marry into another family, change names, and only look after their in laws. The One Child Policy was implemented by Deng Xiaoping in 1979 and ended in 2015 as a plan to reduce the growth rate of China s enormous population. As a result of the one child policy, the numbers of mothers proceeding with abortions if they found out they were having a girl spiked and it also spiked with the introduction of ultrasound technology in. Even when girls are lucky enough to make it through pregnancy, they are still often abandoned or thrown in the trash to die. Others are given to orphanages to be adopted out. Families would do anything to get a boy as their only child: Mothers that are poisoned and given forced abortions, babies that are thrown against walls, smothered or drowned newborns, and infants that are left in the trash to die. When girls are able to make it past their first few years of life with supportive families, they are able to experience as equal opportunities as boys. Prejudice: Because of Chinese tradition, girls aren t seen as being as strong as men and their job should be to bare children. They weren t wanted at birth as they would become ... • 10. Ethical Issues With Animal Testing More than 115 million animals are used each year for testing (Akhtar). The act of testing on live animals for the purpose of scientific research is called vivisection. According to a nationwide survey of biology educators commissioned by NAVS in 2014, the use of animals as dissection specimens in biology classrooms remains a prevalent practice in the United States, with 84% of pre college biology educators reporting the use of dissection as a teaching tool. The use of vivisection is carried out in middle schools, high schools, and universities. Animals are also used in testing for cosmetics, tox screenings, and xenotransplantation, a process of transplanting organs or tissues between different species . Many creatures around the world are forced into a life in cage where they obliged to endure painful tests. Along with the pain caused by scientists, many of the drugs that prove to be successful in animals aren t in humans. Aside from all, animals do have the right to not be harmed although the Animal Welfare Act doesn t provide much protection. Our country s law refuses to find it necessary to use alternative methods which are also obtainable. Animal testingshould be outlawed due to animal rights, ethical issues, alternative ways and its unreliability. First of all, testing on animals must be outlawed in order to protect the rights of animals. Their rights are infringed by endless experimenting. • 11. The Soviet Union Won Four Gold Medals : James walks into the Olympic Center Stadium, feeling a brisk of cold air hit him as he sees the clean sheet of ice. He looks around to see Americans, his people, laughing anxiously around him and others taunting their elite rivals. Must have drank too much, he thought. He walks down the stairs, a classic Vienna Beef hotdog Chicago Style on one hand, and his ticket held in the other. 27E it read. James walked 12 more steps down and found his seat. When he finally reached his spot, he sat down and relaxed. This was going to be one of the biggest games of the year, James thought. It s not that Vladimir was in hopes to see America struggle, but he wanted to reassure his passion for the success of his country. O Party of Lenin, the strength of the people, To Communism s triumph lead us on!, he sang to himself, how the national anthem of his beautiful union spoke to him. His wife and him stood at the entrance of the stadium for a while, so she could reapply her bold red lipstick, and highlight her beauty; of which every Soviet lady did. He grabbed her hand, and escorted her down to his seat, 27E and 27F. While he was walking down, he noticed an American, downing a beer. Ha, unexpected he thought, but it was then he realized, that American was sitting in one of his seats, 27E. He felt an instant level of anxiety approach. He knew he was on American soil, he couldn t just challenge him, he was the submissive role. Vladimir worried he made a mistake with the purchase or misread, because certainly the american or the stadium or the booth he purchased from certainly wouldn t make such an error. Was he to ask security? Or negotiate with the American. Talk to him, maybe see if he s a nice American. Compare And Contrast Frederick Douglas And Malcolm X In almost a century difference in time, Frederick Douglas, an abolitionist of the 19th century, and Malcolm X, a separatist and civil rights activist of the 20th century cleverly managed to learn how to read and write utilizing the resources around them. Their circumstances and ignorance did not stifle their desire to learn to read and write, or obtain the knowledge that would bring forth their positions as powerful leaders of black communities across the land. Compelling circumstances lead them down a path that ignited a tremendous passion to seek as much knowledge as one could contain. That knowledge is utilized to aid in the fight for freedom, civil liberties, and injustices against the people of color and for themselves. Their acts of protest, resistance, and courage are what made these two men significant persons to follow. It is without wonder how Frederick Douglas and Malcom X became to teach and lead many people of color the same information they sought out. It was intuition, personal thoughts, feelings of injustice, determination, curiosity to learn knowledge of self, and the desire to fight for what was right that made Douglas and X want to enlightened their people. It has a great amount of authority over foreign affairs, a bicameral legislature which seeks to balance power, as well as having power over economic matters under Article I Section 8 of the Constitution (The Logic of American Politics, 219). The failures of the Articles of Confederation called for a stronger government demanded by the people of America. This can be an effect of the country s tropical weather. According to the World Bank, in 2009, the country has 40% of agricultural land area. The country s economy has been dependent on agricultural production. The country s agriculture sector is made up of 4 sub sectors: farming, fisheries, livestock, and forestry, which together employ 39.8 percent of the labor force and contribute 20 percent of GDP. Farmers work under the sun s heat in order to feed the mouths of not only their families who are under poverty but also the millions of Filipinos. There would always be problems on housing loans and grants from the government. In effect, our Filipino farmers would still work under the same landowners and would be deprived of developing their own lives. In Gilberto M. Llanto and Marife M. The Media And Its Portrayal Of Athletes According to Knight and Giuliano s 2001 article, gender equality has been and will remain a current topic of hot discussion in the media and its portrayal of athletes. Athletes have a unique ability to deliver their thoughts and information to the masses through the media outlets given to them in regard to their social status. Once the media has heard what the athletes have to say it can be at the media s hand for interpretation. In this specific study 92 undergraduates were given a fake newspaper that covered an Olympian with the main focus being on attractiveness. The study covered male and female athletes in the newspaper article while focusing predominantly on attractiveness. Results show that the readers not only disliked the attraction focus, but also preferred the reading be more focused on the athleticism of the Olympians. The largest take away from the study is the media and its coverage or portrayal of athletes being geared towards athletic achievement over quality of appearance In Riebock and Bae s 2013 literature review they discuss the differences in men and women athletes body perception in the media. To get their results they used multiple questionnaires that revolved around questions dealing with body shame, self objectification and their appearance goal. As a mother and a bioethicist, these are the times when reconciling my personal opinions with my professional experience can be most challenging. Many of my mom friends were shocked and horrified by the image of a young woman being restrained to a bed, forced to undergo treatment. They had visions of a screaming pained girl, a mother helpless to save her child, and big brother dispensing poison to an innocent girl whirled through our collective mind. From an ethics standpoint, it is generally wrong to force medical treatment on anyone, particularly when there are cultural and religious factors to be taken into consideration. Historians are concerned with the continuous, methodical narrative and research of past events as relating to the human race; as well as the study of all history in time. History, in its broadest sense, is the totality of all past events, although a more realistic definition would limit it to the known past. Of all the fields of serious study and literary effort, history may be the hardest to define precisely, because the attempt to uncover past events and formulate an intelligible account of them necessarily involves the use and influence of many auxiliary disciplines and literary forms. Standard reference works are often used to check facts. Scientific facts are verified by repeatable experiments. E. H. Carr in his 1961 volume, what is History? argues that the inherent biases from the gathering of facts makes the objective truth of any historical perspective idealistic and impossible. Facts are, like fish in the Ocean, of which we may only happen to catch a few, only an indication of what is below the surface. Even a dragnet cannot tell us for certain what it would be like to live below the Ocean s surface. Even if we do not discard any facts (or fish) presented, we will always miss the majority; the site of our fishing, the methods undertaken, the weather and even luck play a vital role in what we will catch. Additionally, the composition of history is inevitably made up by the compilation of many different bias of fact finding all compounded over time. He concludes that for a historian to attempt a more objective method, one must accept that history can only aspire to a conversation of the present with the past and that one s methods of fact gathering should be openly examined. As with science, historical truth and facts will therefore change over time and reflect only the present consensus (if that). A historical fact is a fact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

College of Engineering and Technology, Pollachi. 1 karthikasprof@gmail.com 2 jaikumarkarthi@gmail.com Abstract The JPEG 2000 image compression standard is designed for a broad range of data compression applications. The Discrete WaveletTransformation (DWT) is central to the signal analysis and is important in JPEG 2000 and is quite susceptible to computer induced errors. However, advancements in Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) provide a new vital option for the efficient implementation of DSP algorithms. The main goal of project is to design multiplier less and high speed digital filters to design DWT. The convolution and lifting based approach posses hardware complexity due to multiplier and long critical paths. The Distributed arithmetic architecture is implemented to achieve multiplier less computation in DWT filtering, it is based on Look up table approach, which may lead to a reduction of power consumption and the hardware complexity. DA is basically a bit serial computational operation that forms an inner product of a pair of vectors in a single direct step. To speed up the process the parallel DA is implemented. The Death Of Sickle Cell Disease The purpose of this essay it to determine whether or not Jonathon Jackson, a 30 year old air traffic controller whom has been faithful to his company and job for over eight years that has recently discovered he has sickle cell anemia, should be dismissed from his job regarding his genetic test results. Sickle cell anaemia is the most severe form of sickle cell disease and is a genetic disease of the red blood cells (Gibbons, 2015). Red blood cells have a disk like form which allows them the ability to travel through blood vessels. Although in people with sickle cell, the red blood cells form an abnormal crescent shape which makes them rigid and sticky as shown in Diagram 3 below. This causes the sickled cells to get trapped in small vessels which blocks blood from reaching different parts of the body leading to pain, tissue damage and many more symptoms (University of Utah, 2015). The term anaemia comes from having a shortage of red blood cells in your blood which occurs because sickled cells only last up to 10 20 days while normal red blood cells last approximately 120 days. The name sickle comes from an old farm tool known as a sickle as shown in Diagram 4 below which represents the same shape as curved sickled cells (Petch, 2012). Sickle cell disease affects millions of people worldwide and is most common in those who have ancestors from Africa, the Mediterranean, The Arabian Peninsula and Spanish speaking areas in South America. • 35. Symbols In Zadie Smith s Embassy Of Cambodia What does struggle mean to the average person? It may mean writing a trying essay, preparing for a job interview, or even something as simple as riding a bike. However, in The Embassy of Cambodia, Zadie Smith shows readers the real meaning of struggle through the main character, an unpaid housemaid by the name of Fatou. There are many protruding themes in the story, but the most prevalent moral of the story is, no matter how many times the big guy may knock one down, they must always get up, and never let him win. In The Embassy of Cambodia, the game badminton and the Embassy itself are symbols for Fatou and the struggles she faces every day. In the story, each chapter is labeled with what seems to be a badminton score, ending with 0 21,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fatou lingers by the Embassy every Monday before her swim despite the risks. The reader gets the sense that she is drawn to the Embassy because it reminds her of herself. Similarly, the Old and New People of Willesden and Andrew are intrigued by Fatou and drawn to her (Smith 13). The Embassy, on the other hand, gets much more attention. The Embassy is a normal building, but it s placed in a peculiar location. Embassies are typically in the heart of a city, or at least near it, but this Embassy is located in the middle of the suburbs by a health center and a retirement home. This mysterious building is out of place in the world, much like how Fatou is out of place in her world. She traveled from place to place with her father before finally settling in London to be an underappreciated housemaid that barely passes as a human rather than a slave. As a result, she has built tall walls like the Embassy s and has become reserved and closed off to a degree. Despite the fact that Andrew is a nice, intelligent, dorky guy that Fatou really wants to like some part of her rebel[s] against him, some unholy part (Smith 8). This reflects the exclusive closed off nature of the Embassy. When the Embassy gets a basketball goal in the back of it Fatou waits and waits for someone to play basketball, but it never does. She s waiting for change. The goal moves closer to her and still, nothing happens. The change in the Embassy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(p.18) * Price The amount of money a business demands in exchange for its offerings. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is an obvious demand for petrol, as almost everyone who is able, drives or rides a vehicle which requires fuel to run. So it could be argued that retail petrol stations don t necessarily set their own prices, but go off supplier guidelines which base their fuel pricing strategy on demand, Demand based pricing sets prices according to the level of aggregate or individual customer demand in the market. (Elliott et al. 2010 p. 250) Elliott et al. also continue to write that both Caltex Woolworths and Coles Express hold more than 60% of the Australian fuel market share (2010 p.268) so high demand from their suppliers will enable them to lower their fuel prices and therefore gain more customers, earning higher profits. Pricing of other products offered by retail petrol outlets such as bread or milk tend to have the opportunity to be competitive and more fairly priced than a standard petrol station, the major grocery companies behind retail petrol outlets like Woolworths and Coles focus on gaining more ground off one and other, price drops are reflected in store and this also proves more profitable, because consumers are drawn into purchasing something they wouldn t normally associate with their petrol. Promotion An important aspect in the success of retail petrol outlets is in their promotion, or the way in which their fuels and other products are portrayed to potential customers. • 37. Single Parents And Socioeconomic Status Background Information Children who are raised from birth in two parent families have better cogitative and behavioral outcomes compared with children who have ever lived in single parent families, more than 80% of which are headed by single mothers (Jaffe, Moffitt Taylor, 2003, pg. 109). Children develop a different personalitydevelopment when they grow up with no Father or with a father. The percentage is higher than 50% of people who are single mothers and may be increasing. The socioeconomic status plays an important role because single mothers have lower educational attainment, less social support, and poorer psychological well being (Jaffe, Moffitt Capsi, 2003, pg. 109). On the other hand, two parent have a better socioeconomic status and their children have better educational achievement and adjustment because the kids have the support of both of their parents and the two parents are supporting each other to give the best for their kids (Jaffe, Moffitt, Taylor, 2003, pg. 109). One candidate psychological feature which might mediate a relationship between father absence and early coitus is impulsivity. Impulsivity has been linked not only with aggressive behavior, but also with willingness to engage in casual sex with multiple partners (Boothroyd Cross, 2017, pg. 2). The Father absence may play different roles for each gender. When a child who is a boy grows up, they could become aggressive or may think in a feminine way. According to Boothroyd and ... The children are willed by their parents to follow a set religion and adhere completely to its values, beliefs and rules. The Puritan time in America was no different. In fact it was likely the era in which religion and adherence to it was taken the most seriously. The Puritans worship of religion was a dictating factor when it came to laws, customs, and societal actions. In the novel The Scarlet Letterby Nathaniel Hawthorne, the portrayal and treatment of Hester s daughter, Pearl, in the Puritan society develops the theme that religion is an oppressive system of beliefs that dictates the actions and thoughts of its followers. Ever since her birth, Pearl s behavior has been a bit off relative to the normal Puritan standard. A typical Puritan child would not play as a present day child would. They would mature quickly to help with various chores and other duties that had to be done. Pearl, however, was different. She was described on multiple occasions as being wild as she truly explored her freedom, and let her imagination work freely. This is prevalent where Hawthorne writes about Pearl that, At home, within and around her mother s cottage, Pearl wanted not a wide and various circle of acquaintance. • 39. Business Marketing Of Foreign Buyers Part II. Active marketing to foreign buyers Chapter 22. Decisions to make based on demand for your real estate and marketing budget To market to foreign buyers or not? This is the same powerful question as the famous To be or not to be? As a real estate seller of just one private property or a developer with many properties or a realtor you have to answer this question to yourself, having been equipped with all the preliminary information you can gather before you start doing anything. Marketing costs money and takes time, so, without thoughtful consideration and a solid marketing plan with a budget you do not have to start spending money and time. There are obvious situations where and when it is the only possibility to sell your property: your country or area is in economic and financial problems and thus local buyers do not buy. You have to answer Yes . There are less obvious situations when the local real estate market is in balance more or less right now, but you hear a lot around how other sellers, developers and realtors benefit from selling real estate to foreigners. Your choice then. Even in a hot seller s market when it is no problem to receive a quick offer from a local buyer, sometimes it makes sense to market to foreigners anyway as you can get a higher price from the foreign buyers under the circumstances. The EI mass spectra for these isomers show a number of unique ions which allow for the differentiation of the 1 alkyl 3 acylindole compounds from the inverse regioisomeric 1 acyl 3 alkylindoles. The base peak at m /z 214 in the 1 n pentyl 3 benzoylindole represents the M 77 cation fragment resulting from the loss of the phenyl group and this ion is not observed in the inverse isomer. The 1 benzoyl 3 n pentylindole inverse regioisomer shows a base peak at m/z 105 for the benzoyl cation. Thus, these two base peaks are the result of fragmentation initiated at the carbonyl oxygen for both isomers. The 1 pentyl 3 benzoylindole is characterized by the strong intensity carbonyl band at 1703 cm 1 while the amide carbonyl appears as a strong band of equal intensity at 1681 cm 1 in the 1 benzoyl 3 pentyl regioisomer. 1. Taylor Rascher played Simon Bliss and played him perfectly. Rascher s character Simon was a young man who was dramatic and romantic so much so it was almost to the point of ridiculousness. Rascher stole the show in the first act when he was romancing with Michelle Luz, who plays Myra Arundel. Rascher was displaying his love for Michelle Luz (Myra) in the most dramatic of fashions; he was playing the Bliss game of pretending to be in complete love with someone and then a moment later change his mind. Rascher was proclaiming his love with elegant speeches and coddling up next to her and eventually kissing her. Rascher made this scene particularly hilarious because he was completely over the top in typical Bliss fashion. Of course, all of this was for naught because Luz ended up kissing Joe Hubbard s character David Bliss in act two and also Rascher proclaimed his engagement to Caitlin Stagemoller s character, Jackie Coryton. Rascher made his voice more shrill and audible to appear to be more dramatic and create more attention for himself. In the same way, Rascher used grander gestures with his arms (flailing, waving, etc.) to cause a more dramatic effect. The play was well interpreted by all whom were involved. By ordering Alice to repeat poetry, the demanding creatures remind Alice of the teachers she has been instructed by, as Alice has become accustomed to associating learning with the regiment of having her knowledge tested based on memorization and recitation. The poem Alice recites is a parody of another moralistic Isaac Watts poem titled The Sluggard. Carroll s version, Tis the Voice of the Lobster completely alters the original poem aside from the rhyme and meter. While the moral of The Sluggard teaches children about the negative effects of leading a sluggish, unproductive lifestyle, Carroll s parodied version is a tale about a lobster who acts as if he is not terrified by sharks yet his voice has a timid and tremulous sound when sharks are near (80). Carroll s poem does not retain any of the moral elements that are included in Watts s poem. Alice hardly knew what she was saying (80) during another failed attempt at the recitation of a poem she has worked to memorize. Following Alice s recitation, the Mock Turtle says, What is the use of repeating all that stuff...if you don t explain it as you go on? (82). The Mock Turtle s question is reflective of Carroll s critique on the Victorian style of educational technique that Alice and presumably other Victorian children had trouble utilizing outside of the classroom, which is finding meaning in the lessons being taught. I have learned so much about the organization as a solid partner of Tufts NEMC during one of my Strategic and Planning Management classes. Similar to Tufts NEMC, the Floating Hospital for Children has a rich history as it was established in 1894 as a hospitalship, sailing in BostonHarbor. Back then, people believed that fresh air was the most favorable alternative in treating ailing children. It has continued to provide medical care to sick children while cruising Boston Harbor for the next three decades. It has then upgraded its facilities and expanded amenities to having an inpatient service and onboard research facility. However, at some point in the spring of 1927, the floating hospital was ruined by fire. As luck would have it, none had been on board. Four years later, another facility was built this time on land providing a comprehensive service pediatric facility with ongoing research activities. In 1965, the facility has officially merged with Tufts Medical Center. Tufts is the oldest permanent medical facility in the nation. Samuel Adams and Paul Revere originally established it at the Boston Dispensary in 1796. • 48. Literature Review On Safety Culture CHAPTER TWO: LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 Safety Cultures in the Workplace Safety culture in an organization can be described as the product of individual and group values, attitudes, perceptions, competencies and behaviour patterns that determine the commitment to, and the style and proficiency of, an organization s health and safety management (Hughes and Ferrett 2016: 67). As such, organizations that embrace a positive safety culture are characterised by communications that are founded on mutual trust, through shared perceptions of the importance of safety, and by confidence in the efficacy of preventive measures (Hughes and Ferrett 2016: 67). Hale (2000) reiterates the same notion by adding that safety culture is not only a component of organizational culture, but also has an impact on the safety level within the organization. Safety cultures in the healthcare There has been a lot of focused attention on patient safety by policy makers, practitioners and academicians in the last few years (Brennan et al, 1991; Wilson et al, 1995; Vincent et al, 2000) stemming from studies that have indicated the existence of problems with patient safety (Mannion, Davies and Marshall, 2005: 23). Various safety problems that have been noted in the health sector can be argued to be caused by common cultural influences. First, is the problem of blame culture that is prevalent in most health institutions (Mannion, Davies and Marshall, 2005: 23). Pearn, Mulrooney and Payne (1998: 11) describe the ... I did this because I want to know how to kick a field goal like the pros. So, I decided to see if different positions of your foot depend on how far and accurate you can kick. Currently, the knowledge of mine is that there is no best way to kick a football. I know that the only way to have a best way to kick a football is by how you like kicking. I understand different people have different ways of kicking a football. But I think that it takes a lot of time to be able to find the way that you can get a good field goal.
