Essay on Frank Lucas; American Gangster
Frank Lucas; American Gangster What is the one thing every person, white or black, rich or poor,
American or Hispanic, wants to have plenty of in their possession? If it s green, flimsy paper with
different values on the front then money is the answer. Whether it s 19th Century, 20th Century, or
21st Century, people work, steal, worship money. Human beings aren t always satisfied with the
amount of money they have, so they work harder, steal, rob, or cheat hoping to satisfy their money
obsession. This describes the efforts and actions of an American Gangsternamed Frank Lucas.
Frank did whatever it took to become rich to provide for his family, driving him to drug trafficking.
Despite being a murdering, lying, threat to the North East... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The same goes with Satan. He begins to realize that trying to be on top isn t going to be easy, for
now the thought/ Both of lost happiness and lasting pain/ Torments him. (1. 54 56). Both Frank
Lucas and Satan realizing there power thirst comes with major consequences they didn t expect.
Both Satan and Frank Lucas give the reader and audience an intrigue that is likeable. Frank Lucas
has this way of carrying himself as the man around town, no one messes with him but fear him.
That s power that people are gravitated towards to like, being the center of the world. Also this
intrigue rubs off onto Frank s brothers. They are canceling there dreams in there mind because
they want what Frank has, rich and fame. Satan also has that feature. The way he believes he
can be equal to God makes you feel his confidence. You are intrigued in his decision making and
are curious to see if he succeeds. He also is good at rubbing this business of his to other angels
who end up following him. People look up to them and want what they have. In the end, both
Frank Lucas and Satan have the urge to be the most powerful person, have it all, but don t
succeed like they had hoped. Frank Lucas gets caught and put in jail, and Satan has to keep
wishing he could have equaled the Most High (1. 40). While they are both hated by the world they

Theories Of General Strain Theory
Strain and Deviance: An Empirical Research of General Strain Theory in a Philippine Public
University
LITERATURE REVIEW
Theoretical background
During the past decades, various Criminologists developed different theories in an attempt to
explain the causes of crime within the society. In return, they were successful, which are adopted
and accepted today. Indeed, all of the theories explain the root causes of crime. One of these theories
is anomie or strain theory, which attempts to explain why the majority of the people who commits
crime belong to the lower class. It argues that the frustration of the people who belong to the lower
class causes crime towards the higher class (Merton, 1938). In 1985, Robert Agnew got interested

GST defines strains as negative life events and conditions, which are commonly disliked by the
people who experienced it or the negative experiences of a person in a given group (Agnew,
1992; 2001; 2006). Strain is often classified into two distinct types: the objective strain and the
subjective strain . The objective strain refers to those negative life events and conditions
experienced by an individual that are rejected by most members of people in a given group
(Agnew, 2001). Usually, these individuals could not achieve their goals or they lack the means
of achieving them. They usually suffer from poverty (e.g., lack of adequate food and shelter),
unemployment (e.g. unable to find a good work), and discrimination regardless of gender, race or
ethnicity. On the other hand, subjective strain refers to those negative life events experienced by
individuals or experiences rejected by them (Agnew, 2001; 2006). Some of these events are

Characteristics Of Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman Finally Flying! When you think of superheroes you think of heroes such as
Batman, Superman, or the Flash, but one hero that was left in the shadow was Wonder Woman.
Wonder Woman has struggled for years to get off the ground even with her invisible jet. She has
had this ongoing struggle because of her constant comparison with her male counterparts such as
Batman, Superman, and the Flash.
Although superheroes are fictional they all have their own unique backstories. Wonder Woman
has a very different backstory than her male counterparts. Wonder Woman was born onto Paradise
Island to her mother Hippolyta. Wonder Woman s given name was Diana, and this what she was
called her entire life on the island with the other Amazon women. Wonder Woman then found her
way into the human world whenever a pilot named Steve Trevor crashes onto her island, and she
wins the rights to escort him back home. One of her male counterpart Superman was born on the
planet of Krypton, but his parents sent him out into space as their planet was being destroyed.
Superman eventually wound up crashing into earth, and being raised by a farming couple instead
of his biological parents. The farming couple would raise the boy by the name Clark Kent. Another
hero that had to grow up without his biological parents was Batman or more formally known as
Bruce Wayne. Batman parents were killed during a mugging right in front of him on night in
Gotham City. After his parent s death, he was raised by the

Comparing Mulatto And A Raisin In The Sun
When looking at the origins of African American Dramas specifically in Mulatto, Native Son, A
Raisin in the Sun, Funnyhouse of a Negro, Great Goodness of Life, and Dutchman, the emotions of
all these characters created the sense that everyone in this time were still searching for their
identity. Each character in the plays had to overcome difficulties relating to their skin color, thus
causing either confusion or confidence in their search for what defines them as their self. It created
internal conflicts and they often blamed society for specific expectations and stereotypes. How the
characters decided to express their feelings in emotions demonstrates a sense of realism and how
they viewed themselves. In each play, we are able to see how the characters deal with the searching
of their identity through various emotions and internal conflicts through their life choices. In the
first play Mulatto by Langston Hughes, the African American character, Robert,... Show more

Essay On Participation Awards
How many participation awards do you have? Many children have them but do we need them. I
think too many children have them. If we give children participation awards, they get a false
sense of skill. This makes children less competitive, and they begin to expect awards. And while
yes it does boost confidence it doesn t reward proper effort.
Giving children too many participation awards gives them a false sense of skill. If they think they
are really good, they begin to think they are too good, and they will start to become narcissistic.
Overly praising them also makes it harder for the child to cope with losing. For example, if a child
is told they are always perfect they don t know what to do if they lose.

Essay Public Subsidies for Sports Facilities
Public Subsidies for Sports Facilities
America is in the midst of a sports construction boom. New sports facilities costing at least $200
million each have been completed or are under way in Baltimore, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati,
Cleveland, Milwaukee, Nashville, San Francisco, St. Louis, Seattle, Tampa, and Washington, D.C.,
and are in the planning stages in Boston, Dallas, Minneapolis, New York, and Pittsburgh. Major
stadium renovations have been undertaken in Jacksonville and Oakland. Industry experts estimate
that more than $7 billion will be spent on new facilities for professional sports teams before 2006.
Most of this $7 billion will come from public sources. The subsidy starts with the federal
government, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, building the facility creates construction jobs. Second, people who attend games or work for
the team generate new spending in the community, expanding local employment. Third, a team
attracts tourists and companies to the host city, further increasing local spending and jobs. Finally,
all this new spending has a multiplier effect as increased local income causes still more new
spending and job creation. Advocates argue that new stadiums spur so much economic growth that
they are self financing: subsidies are offset by revenues from ticket taxes, sales taxes on concessions
and other spending outside the stadium, and property tax increases arising from the stadium s
economic impact.
Unfortunately, these arguments contain bad economic reasoning that leads to overstatement of the
benefits of stadiums. Economic growth takes place when a community s resources people, capital
investments, and natural resources like land become more productive. Increased productivity can
arise in two ways: from economically beneficial specialization by the community for the purpose
of trading with other regions or from local value added that is higher than other uses of local
workers, land, and investments. Building a stadium is good for the local economy only if a
stadium is the most productive way to make capital investments and use its workers.

Reverend Hale s Transformation
Reverend Hale and John Proctor in The Crucible The Crucible is a play about the hardships of the
Salem witch trials. In the beginning, Reverend Hale is a devout judge and reverend, seeing only
black and white. When he faces the people of Salem, his character stops favoring legal justification
and shifts to do what he knows is right, quitting the court and imploreing defendants to save their
lives. John Proctorwas a hardworking licentious farmer before the witch trials came to town, but
when all was said and done, he chose the religious answer to the question of lying or dieing Arthur
Miller shows the greatest transformation in Reverend Hale and John Proctor in order to convey that
when people of usually certain manners are under extreme duress, they prefer religious/moral
arguments over other arguments they favored... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of this is Hale s inability to see Abigail s yellow bird in the rafters and eventually
quitting the court. This reaction to what he thought was unreasonable (Abigail seeing what he
couldn t) drove him to the action of quitting the court. If he still valued law above all else, he
would have stayed with the court and wouldn t have cared whether or not there really was a bird.
A secondary example of his transformation is when he sees John Proctor readying to sign the
paper, saving his own life. When Danforth is close to stopping the signature from being written
for he fears his confession may be false, Hale pleads Excellency, it is enough he confess himself.
Let him sign it, let him sign it! . This further shows Hale s distaste of the law by showing him
prefer to keep John Proctor (a man he knows to be good, not a witch as the paper would imply)
alive, instead of hanging, a perceived false confession would lead to. This together with the above
paragraph shows the differences between Reverend Hale before and after the stress of the court

Essay about The Perpetual Battle Against Censorship
There is more than one way to burn a book, (176) says Ray Bradbury when explaining the reason
he wrote Fahrenheit 451. Bradbury at the time was upset about condensed books , or books
which had been simplified for easier reading. Luckily, this fad seems to have passed. However, he
was also upset about people who wrote asking him to change the role of womenor African
Americans to make them more or less dominant in some of his works. One of the major themes in
Fahrenheit 451was just that; a society where everyone got what they wished and literature was
eliminated entirely so it wouldn t offend anyone. Sadly, this still continues to happen in the United
States. Many books have been banned from school and public libraries because... Show more

According to the ACLU, this applies not only to pure speech (books, newspapers, leaflets, and
rallies), but also nonverbal expressions that communicate ideas ( ACLU . . . ). To take the good
with the bad, not only does it protect popular ideas, but also ideas expressed by hate groups and
those against the government. The only exceptions that have ever been made to the first amendment
are the two Supreme Court cases Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire (1942) and New York Times v.
Sullivan (1964) ( ACLU . . . ). In the Chaplinsky case, the court ruled that free speech was not
protected if the speech was fighting words or words meant to provoke the person to whom they
are addressed ( ACLU . . . ). In the case of New York Times v. Sullivan, the Supreme Court ruled
that free speech is also not protected when it is slander against public officials ( ACLU . . . ).
Mostly however, these two Supreme Court cases apply only to journalism, as most classic and
contemporary literature is not directed simply at one person. Despite all this protection, the
decision to ban books from libraries is largely left up to the schools and institutions themselves (
Banned Books Online ), and a federal ban is very rare, practically nonexistent today.
If we have the first amendment, then why are books still federally banned? There is a U.S. law
that forbids the trade of obscene literature, or articles of immoral use

Fostering Diversity On School Campuses
Diversity is how we are all different in our own unique way. The concept of diversity encompasses
acceptance and respect. It is about recognizing our individual differences, and working together to
forge a better future. Colleges should aim to establish a climate of diversity and inclusion on school
campuses, so that every student, regardless of background, race, religion or language feel safe and
a sense of belonging. Colleges with a diverse student body helps improve the academic performance
of students and better student collaboration. Queens fostering a diverse community of students,

I realize that i had a lot to contribute to Queens to interest in fostering a diverse student body.
My diversity is not simply limited to my race, but rather my language, religion, origin and
cultural background. I am from a tiny west African country called The Gambia . Although
English should be the official language of The Gambia, Majority of the population cannot speak
it. Our native languages are the widely spoken languages. When I came to the US, I speak very
little English, people couldn t understand me when I speak. They would often tell me that you
have a strong African accent we don t understand anything that you saying. This makes me feel
left out and lonely. The only time I feel a sense of belonging is when I go to the park to play
soccer, Normally before we play, we divide the teams into two 4 v 4 . All of my teammates used
to be Hispanics and White, I have never seen a black person of African playing soccer at the
park. Most of my teammates don t understand me when I speak, but that doesn t stop us from
winning. We won most of the games. I community to my team mates using sign languages usually
with my hands. I observe their body movements to effect my passes. I communicate with them
without even talking, and all our other differences fade away. After going to the park for so long
and meeting with different teammates every single day, I always find a way to move past what
makes us different, finding that something that makes us the same. Whether on the soccer field, in
the classroom, on campus, in dorms , dining halls or on the street. It is the only way to live

Importance Of Water Purification
Water purification is the removal of contaminants from raw water to produce drinking water that is
pure enough for human consumption or for industrial use.
Substances that are removed during the process include parasites (such as Giardia or
Cryptosporidium) , bacteria, algae, viruses, fungi, minerals (including toxic metals such as Lead,
Copper etc.), and man made chemical pollutants.
Many contaminants can be dangerous but depending on the quality standards, others are removed
to improve the water s smell, taste, and appearance.
A small amount of disinfectant is usually intentionally left in the water at the end of the treatment
process to reduce the risk of re contamination in the distribution system.
Many environmental and cost considerations affect the location and design of water purification
plants.
Groundwater is cheaper to treat, but aquifers usually have limited output and can take thousands of
years to recharge.
Surface water sources should be carefully monitored for the presence of unusual types or levels of
microbial/disease causing contaminants.
The treatment plant itself must be kept secure from vandalism and terrorism.
It is not possible to tell whether water is safe to drink just by looking at it.
Simple procedures such as boiling or the use of a household charcoal filter are not sufficient for
treating water from an unknown source.
Even natural spring water considered safe for all practical purposes in the 1800s must now be
tested before determining what

Define Community Analysis
Community, what is community? How would you define it? Community can be defined as a
geographic location in a way that a group of individuals live in the same area like a
neighborhood, a city, a district, a town, or a country. In simplest terms, it is where you live.
However, individuals can also feel a sense of communitythrough the place where they grew up or
where they often go and visit. It can also be a group of individuals who have certain characteristics
in common such as religion, race or ethnicity, culture, beliefs, professional and economic ties,
interests, and more. Individuals refer themselves to particular attributes or affinities (what
individuals like to do). For example, individuals say I belong to an Asian community or I belong to
an art community. As such, community bestows one a sense of identity (who people... Show more

Even though individuals are different and unique from each other, they all come to one because of
that one particular shared interest.
For me, community is bigger than that. I believe that community is diversity, kinship, unity,
identity, cooperation, passion, similarity, strength, motivation, and guidance. The word community
does not only limit itself to a group of individuals who have shared characteristics, interests, and
experiences, but it also goes beyond the idea of a group of diverse individuals coming together.
These are individuals who have different ethnicities, race, religion, culture, traditions, and so forth.
Within a community is where one develops relationships with other people over time by means of
interacting and communicating regularly, whether it would be in person or online. Thus, a better
understanding of the surroundings and in greater span, the world, is formed. Community is where
it starts. Differences are set aside. It is a place where everyone works together to make their
community a better place or a harmonious place to dwell. Everyone contributes whatever

Annotated Bibliography On Juvenile Incarceration

THESIS STATEMENT: The Department of Juvenile Justice should provide effective diversion
options as alternatives rather than incarceration to deter juveniles from committing crimes because
imprisonment has done more harm than good, causing depression, suicidal thoughts and more
acting out behaviors.
Annie E. Casey, F. (2011). No place for kids: The case for reducing juvenile incarceration. Issue
Brief. Retrieved from http://www.aecf.org/resources/no place for kids full report/
The report, No Place for Kids: The Case for Reducing Juvenile Incarceration, published by the
Annie E. Casey Foundation, has conducted years of research and found that incarceration has been
unsuccessful, in fact incarceration has done nothing positive and is a failed strategy for fighting
crime among youths. Also in this report, the Annie E. Casey foundation wants the community to
work towards a more productive, humane, and low cost approach to youth diversion programs and
rehabilitation. The report recommends the limitation for correctional placements while the
government invests in non residential alternatives diversion programs, and substitute imprisonment
for treatment oriented facilities for minor crimes and offenses (Casey, 2011). Thus, I think this
report will assist me in supporting my thesis statement since I support diversion programs for
juveniles. The Annie E. Casey Foundation (1990) is a credible government organization and a

An Analysis Of David Heyman And The Harry Potter Film...
David Heyman and the Harry Potter Film Franchise
FTV 434
Taylor Grewe
December 11, 2013 The role of a producer in the filmmaking process involves financial and
technical responsibilities, as well as creative responsibilities. As the industry evolved, producers
were typically associated with the financial and technical side of filmmaking, more so than the
creative side. However, in the last three decades, more and more producers are being recognized
for their creative involvement (Pardo 2). In 1997, David Heyman, a British film producer,
discovered the book Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone by J.K. Rowling (McNary). Almost
immediately, Heyman began working to secure the film rights, having no idea that he was
embarking on a project that, according to IMDb, would become the highest grossing film
franchise in history (IMDb). His creative involvement, on the production of the films, stems
from the fact that he truly loves the Harry Potter book series. The success of the franchise had
much to do with what can be referred to as the Potter formula : Heyman s direct involvement in
the novel to film adaption process, his decision to work with a team of Potter fans, many of which
returned to work on all 8 installments, and his careful selection of directors who shared his vision.
This Potter Unit of returning cast and crew members included writer Steve Kloves, production
designer Stuart Craig, the majority of cast members, as well as many more. Having produced all

Bullying Is A Common Problem
Bullying is a common problem. Bullying is very negative and creates bigger problems for
society. Since many people don`t take bullying serious, they are often left shocked and confused
when an incident occurs as a result of bullying. This essay is about dealing with bullying and one
teens desparate struggle to deal with the issue; which ultimately led to her suicide at the age of 15.
There are many forms of bullying. Two types of bullying that Amanda experienced was emotional
bullying, which includes spreading rumors, manipulating social relationships, or engaging in social
exclusion, extortion, or intimidation and physical bullying which involves hitting, kicking, spitting,
pushing, and taking personal belongings. The second form of bullying is sexual bullying, which
involves sexual harassment and sexual abuse. (Regoli, Hewitt, Delisi,2014).
There are many emotions experienced, when someone is bullied. Despite the fact, it might not
show intially, a lot could be going on internally. As a result of being bullied Amanda experienced
anxiety, major depression, and panic disorder. She handled with it by revolving to drugs, alcohol,
and sex. In return, she suffered more pain and cause damaged to herself, as she struggled to be
accepted by her peers, find someone who cares, and just to mean something to someone.

Compare And Contrast Brave New World And 1984
George Orwell s dystopian classic 1984 was a warning for the whole world to not fully trust
your government. Aldous Huxley wrote Brave New World in 1931, almost two decades before
1984 , and not too long after the first world war, at the beginning of the Great Depression, and a
devastating flu virus that had claimed millions of lives. Though both stories have been written in a
time unlike today, people should still be frightened of the possibility of becoming true.
Unfortunately, it s already too late to worry about it becoming true because it s the world s reality.
Both Brave New Worldand 1984 are very close representations of the modern world because of
politics, and technological and social aspects of the modern day world.

Mood Of Homeless Wanderer
Hopeless Wanderer
Analysis of mood and tone:
The tone of this song is a mixture of solemn, fear, lost and personal. The speaker is utterly
expressing the fear of his commitment through his protectiveness of his feelings and being hurt
once before. He begins the song off with Left a clouded mind and a heavy heart but I am sure we
could see a new start which blatantly expresses his personal experience of being left with a
broken heart and a foggy mental state of mind, but he knows that they can try once again to make
it work which is optimistic. He repeats But hold me fast, hold me fast cause i m a hopeless wanderer
which shows the speaker being solemn and lost and needing help. The song is very aggressive due

do not look deep into the meaning of the words, it makes this song appeal as if it is any other
song you hear when you are in a great and chill mood. When the banjo picks up on the aggressive
repeating parts, it makes the song neutral and almost a little bit easier to take as well as a bit fun
and upbeat to sing along with and also become stuck in your memory to where you sing it
nonstop. By the end of the song the speaker makes the audience feel him not wanting to give up
especially when this is said Now how I long, how I long to grow old. When he repeats many

Balloon Persuasive Essay

Essay Death of a Salesman, Tragic Hero. Willy Loman.
To what extent can Willy Loman be considered a tragic hero according to Aristotle s rules?
Arthur Miller presents his play Death of a Salesman in the ancient form of a tragedy. Aristotle has
defined his idea of the perfect tragedy in his text, Poetics (350 BC).Here he suggests that the
protagonist must fall from an elevated social standing as a result of a fatal flaw within the character;
the fall from the main character creates resolution to the play which is seen as just; finally, Aristotle
identified that the action of the drama should take place within a 24hour timeframe. An ancient
play which is believed to be the perfect tragedy is Oedipus Rex by Sophocles. Death of a Salesman

turned up to his funeral besides his close family who love him, all of which he pushed away

Willy also obtains an idea that image is equal to success. This is known to be his hubris;

reasoning behind doing this may be because he didn t want to come across as low to his mistress,

The Pros And Cons Of Robots
Are autonomous robots the warfare altering weapon of this generation? In order to answer this
question there must be a clear definition of autonomous robots. An autonomous robot is a robot that
can perform any action without any human assistance and once weaponized they become
autonomous robotic weapons who act on their own. Knowing the current standing of autonomous
robots, the limitations on them, and how easily they can cause an autonomous robotarms race one
would see how a preemptive ban can protect the world. Although some would argue for the help
these robots could provide, there would always be a threat of malfunction. Therefore banning all
applications autonomous robots could protect the world from unnecessary deaths or increased
future conflict.
The current standing of autonomous robots is fairly controversial. There are numerous groups
arguing over whether autonomous robots will help society or pave the way for a robot enforced
martial law. One group against the use of autonomous robots is the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots
which argues against the idea of anything other than a human being able to take a life (Goose
Wareham, 2016,p. 32). This group sees autonomous robots as a threat to humanity ,due to how
weaponized autonomous robotics could dehumanize the casualties they cause. While in contrast,
the Department of Defense(DOD) is highly interested in the idea of autonomous weapons being
able to help remove soldiers from war zones and lessen the number of

The Tuskegee Study Of Untreated Syphilis
In 1932, the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) initiated a study entitled the Tuskegee Study of
Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male in Macon County, Alabama to record the natural course of
latent, untreated syphilis in Black males and explore treatment possibilities (Center for Disease
Control and Prevention [CDC], 2017). Macon County, Alabama, in which the town of Tuskegee is
located, was selected as the location of this study because earlier studies conducted in the rural
South by the USPHS to determine the prevalence of syphilis among Blacks found this county to
have the highest syphilis rate of the six counties surveyed (Brandt, 1978). Dr. Taliaferro Clark,

study was terminated in October 1972, only 74 subjects were still alive, 28 subjects died from
advanced syphilis, possibly more than 100 died of related complications, 40 of their wives had

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) filed a lawsuit on

Slavery Tribulation In American History
Throughout World History, many atrocious and abominable things have happened to human beings
throughout time. Babies have been slaughtered in wars, people have been killed by severe natural
disasters, and people have even been eaten by cannibals. But nothing seems to come close in
comparison to the Transatlantic Slave Trade and what those people had to toil through. They were
mercilessly beaten, branded, and even considered less than human by their fellow humans. The
slaves of this horrific time in American History, from the 1400s to the 1860s, went through possibly
the worst tribulation in human history. Although slaverywas more of an economic institution, was

These sadistic practices were needed to make sure that the slaves made it to their final
destination alive, whether or not they were in the best shape. Although the women were not
chained down like the men, they were horribly abused by the slave traders. The traders were
allowed to rape them which led to the women committing suicide by jumping overboard and
drowning. Rape was not necessary to scare those people into submission. Slave traders went
beyond what was necessary to keep slaves. Although at some points the slaves fought back and
rebelled, the treatment of the slaves on ships broke them down psychologically and physically.
Robert Walsh reports that The height sometimes between decks was only eighteen inches, so
[they] could not turn round or even on their sides [because] the elevation [was] less than the
breadth of their shoulders; and here they are usually chained to the decks by the neck and legs.
This made the conditions so bad that many of the enslaved people would try to kill each other by
strangulation or stabbing nails into each other s heads in order to make more space for themselves .
Slave traders believed that these inhumane conditions were the appropriate way to transfer these
people because they did not think that they were fellow human

Union University Art Gallery Analysis

canvases by Brian Bundren. While Bundren has been painting and displaying his artwork for
quite some time (his first gallery was in the mid 1990s!), Hodgepodge contains paintings only
from 2013 2016. All of the artwork shows great precision and attention to detail. The colors are
vibrant and rich. That is not to say the colors were bright or cheerful (only one paintingwas
particularly bright ), but the colors were all pure and distinct. Most of the paintings, in my opinion,
would fit under the umbrella of surrealism. Walking into the gallery immediately starts to produce
feelings of unease and perhaps feelings of being threatened. The individual objects in the paintings
are very realistic but mashed together in unnatural ways. Only one painting, J.V. s Thunderbird ,

Solutions for Poor Contries in Bottom Billion by Paul Collier
The Bottom Billion by Paul Collier discusses why the poorest countries are failing and then offers
some insights and solutions to the problem. He says the four major problems in developing nations
are: conflict, natural resources, bad neighbors, and bad governments. The conflicts are usually civil
wars which have huge costs and the situation just becomes worse the longer the conflicts drag on.
Collier states that countries rich in natural resources are often worse off than countries that are not,
he attributes this problem to several different factors. One of the factors is that the resources open
the possibility for conflict over the resources. Another factor is that if a country strictly focuses it s
on a specific natural resourcethen the other resources and industries might get forgotten and lose
value. Being landlocked with bad neighbors can also be a large problem because it makes it
almost impossible to be a part of world trade, so these landlocked countries have to depend on
their neighbors for most of the trade and materials. A bad government can also be very
destructive to a country s economy, if they create unreasonable and restrictive policies. The
smaller countries are also at a disadvantage because it is hard for them to get any investors,
because the investors would much rather invest in well known countries like India or China. After
Collier stated all the problems he also offered up some possible solutions. He believed that aid
agencies should concentrate

Political Islam And The Islamic Islam
Political Islam is a term that was coined inside the scholarly realm to allude to the more extensive
group of political frameworks that are Islam oriented. The greater part of the states that draw on the
Islamic instructions to influence political and social elements of the general public are said to be
practicing political Islam. The vast majority of the practices will look for direction from the
Islamic conventions and the Muslim scriptural foundation to settle on choices that influence the
whole state and how it identifies with whatever is left of the world. While the term may not be as

The Chinese People s Liberation Army Essay
The Chinese People s Liberation Army: Ground Forces (PLAGF) began a massive military
modernization in the 1980 s and they have been continually reforming their training and education
of their ground forces ever since. Senior officials within the People s Liberation Army recognized
that improving the militaryskills and raising the education levels of both officers and troops alike

During the modernization of the People s Liberation Army funding was increased for military

contacts with foreign military academies was increased. The leadership of the PLA focused their
education reforms on the military academy system. They also changed the scope of their training

on training officers capable of directing combined arms warfare.
The Revival of the military academies system began in 1978, which the Cultural Revolution had

Andrew Carnegie s Leadership
Dogged determination, refusal to conform, a strong desire for knowledge and eternal optimism
are a few terms practically synonymous when referring to Andrew Carnegie. With a childhood
marked by struggle, Carnegie learned at a young age, the value of an education. His desire to
learn is evidenced by the knowledge he gained when his family immigrated to the United States,
from Scotland in1848. While on the ship, at 12 years old and determined to make the best of his
situation, he learned how the ship s day to day operations were handled. He helped with Sunday
dinners, learned the names of the ropes and eventually helped lead the passengers when necessary.
Young Carnegie was not content to keep his place, therefore, he explored and mastered his
environment, taking full advantage of all he could gain from the experience. A keen eye for
opportunity or brazen disregard for protocol could also be synonymous when referring to Andrew
Carnegie. In 1853, while working as a personal assistant for Thomas Scott, superintendent of the
Pennsylvania Railroad, Carnegie, then only a young adult, took advantage of Scott s absence and
gave orders, in Scott s name, to handle a railroad incident, including cleanup and... Show more

Throughout decades, sexual selection has been acknowledged in the explanation of evolutionary
patterns. With research, we have had the opportunity to study species of animals like the
Syngnathidae family. Animals that are included in this category include pipefish, seahorses, and sea
dragons. This species is known for their sexrole reversal, meaning that the malefertilizes and carries
the eggs during incubation after the female has laid them. When we look more specifically at the
pipefish, it is found that males are left with most of the parenting and care for the offspring. As the
male carries its eggs, it supplies them with nutrients and oxygen through the placenta. During

Within the species, water temperature was found as a factor in sexual selection and embryonic
development. Rispoli and Wilson (2008) stated that the influence of temperature on reproduction is
expected to effectively truncate the breeding season and reduce fecundity in cold waters,
potentially enhancing the opportunity for both fecundity and sexual selection (31). Pipefish
were sampled from population in the European coast. Males were defined as mature when they
had developed their brood pouch and females were considered mature when they were able to
carry mature eggs. In comparison to the prior studies mentioned, over fifty percent of males
would mate with as many as five males. Females from this area produced fewer eggs than the
ales were able to brood and therefore male would mate with other females to fill their pouch. It
was also found that males had an increased brood size where water temperatures during their
breeding season were lower. In colder temperatures, the duration of the embryo incubation is
increased, making it difficult for males to carry a succeeded amount of eggs during a season. It is
clear that water temperature has an effect of

What is urbanization? Urbanization is the increase of population in an urban area. It is as much as a
social process as it is an economic and territorial process. There are a few major cause of
urbanization which include the industrial revolution, immigration, push and pull factor.
Industrialization is the increase and development of a society or country that transforms its self s
itself from a primarily agricultural society into one based on the industrialized of goods and
services. The increasing number of factories created has a powerful need for labor, compelling
people in rural areas to move to the city, and drawing immigrants from around the world to come to
Canada for employment. As a result, Canada has transformed from a rural to an urban nation, and
the demographics of the country shifted dramatically. Subsequent industrial development the
process of urban¬ization is accelerating at much more rapidly rate. Urbanization brings about

Video Games Are The Most Common Form Of Entertainment
Video games are a series of images manipulated onto a screen. The screen can be a television,
computer screen, or it can also be a cell phone. The images are represented by bits or pixels.
There are video games for almost every platform ever made. In the past, video games were a
thing that only lucky, rich people had. Now they are something almost everyone has. You can
find video games in stores, book shops, garage sales, and many other places. They are the most
common form of entertainment. Making a video game is much harder than playing it. Making
one requires patience, skill, and wisdom. It is like a fragile vase: one bad line of code, and it is all
destroyed. They have revolutionized how we do things today. They also... Show more content on

They have a long and extensive history, and a future that is limitless. The history and future can
be broken up into 4 major parts. First, the pre 1980 s, when games like Pong, Nim and the
Brown Box console were released. Second, 1980 to 1998, when companies like Nintendo, Sega,
and Sony started to evolve to how we know them today. Third, 1999 to present day, when the
greatest technological advances have occurred and companies compete to be the first and the
best. And finally the future of video gaming, dealing with the creation of VR which can be used
to train people for their jobs as well as gaming. Pre 1980 The time period of the pre 1980 s is
when video gaming was first started. This time period started the video game revolution in an
attempt to take video games out of the arcades and put them into the home. The game Nim
started it all, the Brown Box was the first ever console, and Atari was the first ever successful
gaming company. The roots of all video games and consoles can be tracked to this time period.
In 1940, the W.L. Maxon Corporation transferred an old board game to a computer. It was called
Nim. The objective of the game was to keep collecting matches until there was only one left.
Whomever picked up that last match on the board lost. It was on display at the 1940 World Fair to
play. It was made by using simple computer coding for the computer opponent

The Stability of an interconnected power systemSmall...
The stability of an interconnected power system is the ability of the system to return to its normal
or stable condition after having been subjected to some form of disturbance. With the
interconnected systems continually increasing in size and extending over whole geographical
regions, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to maintain synchronism between various parts
of the power system. This paper work presents an advanced adaptive Particle swarm optimization
technique to optimize the SVC controller parameters for enhancement of the steady state stability
overcoming the premature convergence stagnation problems as in basic PSO algorithm Particle
swarm optimizationwith shrinkage factor inertia weight approach (PSO SFIWA). In this paper
SMIB system along with PID damped SVC controller is considered for study. The generator
speed deviation is used as an auxiliary signal to SVC, to generate the desired damping. This
controller improves the dynamic performance of power system by reducing the steady state error.
The controller parameters are optimized using basic PSO, PSO SFIWA Advanced Adaptive PSO.
Computational results show that Advanced Adaptive based SVC controller is able to find better
quality solution as compare to conventional PSO PSO SFIWA Techniques.

Why Is Nuclear Power Bad
Nuclear power: good or bad? Nuclear energy to create power has been used for hundreds of years.
Today nuclear energy powers almost 11% of the world. It produces nearly no greenhouse gases
or co2 emissions. But it does leave behind nuclear waste that stays radioactive for decades.
Nuclear energy has been used for many years, but there are goods and bads to Nuclear powerfrom
nuclear energy.
Nuclear Energy has a long history of Grief. Since 1942, Nuclear Energy has grown and spread
worldwide. The history of Nuclear Energy begins in 1942 when enrico Fermi created the first
nuclear reactor, the Chicago Pile 1. Enrico left Italy to escape new Italian racial laws. He created
this reactor by fission. Which is also used as the fuel to the atomic bomb, which came 3 years after
at the trinity test ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fission can be controlled easier, that is why it is used the most. fission occurs by splitting an
atom, instead of putting two molecules by force at high speeds, and changing the atomic number
of the molecule. Fusion needs some requirements to occur, it needs high pressure and high
temperature, and at extreme levels to combine the Molecule. If this is tried, and is done wrong,
the damage could be devastating and even nuclear. This is a good source of power and has been
used for many years. Usually when they malfunction they are treated and nothing bad happens, but
if not treated, it could cause a nuclear meltdown, like what happened at 3 mile island on March
28th, 1979, and that s not good.
Nuclear Energy has many supporters around the world. The benefit of Nuclear Energy are clear
to many. People who are for Nuclear Energy, support it for many reasons. The outcome of
produced power can be changed, all you do is change the fuel entering the chain reactor (Page 11).
One main factor that puts nuclear energy on top is it lets out little air pollutants, greenhouse gases,
smog, slows global warming, and helps limit acid rain (Sally

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy And Post Traumatic Stress...
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Post traumatic Stress Disorder Millions of people suffer from
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and struggle to find an effective treatment option. Many
people have the misconception that only our veterans have this condition but in actuality over 8%
of the Unites States population have this mental illness. Researchers have been trying to study and
determine what the best treatment options are. Patients can get confused and frustrated in trying to
find a treatment that will fit their needs and gives them the best opportunity and chance of recovery.
Research has indicated that drug therapy has limited results when used without therapy and may
only treat symptoms (Wright 2013). Although many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patients may also be hesitant to talk about the original event especially in the case of rape or
sexual abuse. General Practitioners (GPs) often are not well trained in this type of mental
illness and are not aware of treatment options. And many patients suffer from co morbidities.
(Wright, 2013) One of the biggest obstacles in treating PTSD is the high prevalence of co
morbidities. Co morbidity is the presence of two or more chronic diseases or conditions in a
patient. A study conducted in Australia found that at least half of the people with PTSD have
moderate depression, while generalized anxiety disorder was present in a 40% of men and 22%
of women sufferers. (Wright, 2014). This study also found a close link between PTSD patients
and substance abuse; it was found that over 30% of people who suffer from PTSD also suffer
from substance abuse. (Wright, 2014) Co morbidities can make treatment very difficult since it s
not the PTSD alone that may need treatment; it s a series of issues. For example, a patient with
PTSD who also suffers from substance abuse needs two different kinds of treatment. Multiple kinds
of treatment may take more time and effort in order to get multiple conditions under control. Ideally
a patient needs to find a provider who can help with all his/her mental health conditions and a
treatment that addresses them holistically. In

Theories Of General Strain Theory Strain and Deviance: An Empirical Research of General Strain Theory in a Philippine Public University LITERATURE REVIEW Theoretical background During the past decades, various Criminologists developed different theories in an attempt to explain the causes of crime within the society. Second, people who attend games or work for the team generate new spending in the community, expanding local employment. Third, a team attracts tourists and companies to the host city, further increasing local spending and jobs. Finally, all this new spending has a multiplier effect as increased local income causes still more new spending and job creation. Advocates argue that new stadiums spur so much economic growth that they are self financing: subsidies are offset by revenues from ticket taxes, sales taxes on concessions and other spending outside the stadium, and property tax increases arising from the stadium s economic impact. Unfortunately, these arguments contain bad economic reasoning that leads to overstatement of the benefits of stadiums. Economic growth takes place when a community s resources people, capital investments, and natural resources like land become more productive. Increased productivity can arise in two ways: from economically beneficial specialization by the community for the purpose of trading with other regions or from local value added that is higher than other uses of local workers, land, and investments. The only exceptions that have ever been made to the first amendment are the two Supreme Court cases Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire (1942) and New York Times v. Sullivan (1964) ( ACLU . . . ). • 12. Importance Of Water Purification Water purification is the removal of contaminants from raw water to produce drinking water that is pure enough for human consumption or for industrial use. Substances that are removed during the process include parasites (such as Giardia or Cryptosporidium) , bacteria, algae, viruses, fungi, minerals (including toxic metals such as Lead, Copper etc.), and man made chemical pollutants. Many contaminants can be dangerous but depending on the quality standards, others are removed to improve the water s smell, taste, and appearance. A small amount of disinfectant is usually intentionally left in the water at the end of the treatment process to reduce the risk of re contamination in the distribution system. Many environmental and cost considerations affect the location and design of water purification plants. Groundwater is cheaper to treat, but aquifers usually have limited output and can take thousands of years to recharge. Surface water sources should be carefully monitored for the presence of unusual types or levels of microbial/disease causing contaminants. The treatment plant itself must be kept secure from vandalism and terrorism. It is not possible to tell whether water is safe to drink just by looking at it. Almost immediately, Heyman began working to secure the film rights, having no idea that he was embarking on a project that, according to IMDb, would become the highest grossing film franchise in history (IMDb). His creative involvement, on the production of the films, stems from the fact that he truly loves the Harry Potter book series. The success of the franchise had much to do with what can be referred to as the Potter formula : Heyman s direct involvement in the novel to film adaption process, his decision to work with a team of Potter fans, many of which returned to work on all 8 installments, and his careful selection of directors who shared his vision. • 23. The Pros And Cons Of Robots Are autonomous robots the warfare altering weapon of this generation? In order to answer this question there must be a clear definition of autonomous robots. An autonomous robot is a robot that can perform any action without any human assistance and once weaponized they become autonomous robotic weapons who act on their own. Knowing the current standing of autonomous robots, the limitations on them, and how easily they can cause an autonomous robotarms race one would see how a preemptive ban can protect the world. Although some would argue for the help these robots could provide, there would always be a threat of malfunction. Therefore banning all applications autonomous robots could protect the world from unnecessary deaths or increased future conflict. The current standing of autonomous robots is fairly controversial. There are numerous groups arguing over whether autonomous robots will help society or pave the way for a robot enforced martial law. One group against the use of autonomous robots is the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots which argues against the idea of anything other than a human being able to take a life (Goose Wareham, 2016,p. 32). This group sees autonomous robots as a threat to humanity ,due to how weaponized autonomous robotics could dehumanize the casualties they cause. While in contrast, the Department of Defense(DOD) is highly interested in the idea of autonomous weapons being able to help remove soldiers from war zones and lessen the number of ... Babies have been slaughtered in wars, people have been killed by severe natural disasters, and people have even been eaten by cannibals. But nothing seems to come close in comparison to the Transatlantic Slave Trade and what those people had to toil through. They were mercilessly beaten, branded, and even considered less than human by their fellow humans. The slaves of this horrific time in American History, from the 1400s to the 1860s, went through possibly the worst tribulation in human history. These sadistic practices were needed to make sure that the slaves made it to their final destination alive, whether or not they were in the best shape. Although the women were not chained down like the men, they were horribly abused by the slave traders. The traders were allowed to rape them which led to the women committing suicide by jumping overboard and drowning. Rape was not necessary to scare those people into submission. Slave traders went beyond what was necessary to keep slaves. Although at some points the slaves fought back and rebelled, the treatment of the slaves on ships broke them down psychologically and physically. Robert Walsh reports that The height sometimes between decks was only eighteen inches, so [they] could not turn round or even on their sides [because] the elevation [was] less than the breadth of their shoulders; and here they are usually chained to the decks by the neck and legs. This made the conditions so bad that many of the enslaved people would try to kill each other by strangulation or stabbing nails into each other s heads in order to make more space for themselves . Currently on display is Hodgepodge , a collection of about ten canvases by Brian Bundren. While Bundren has been painting and displaying his artwork for quite some time (his first gallery was in the mid 1990s!), Hodgepodge contains paintings only from 2013 2016. All of the artwork shows great precision and attention to detail. The colors are vibrant and rich. That is not to say the colors were bright or cheerful (only one paintingwas particularly bright ), but the colors were all pure and distinct. Most of the paintings, in my opinion, would fit under the umbrella of surrealism. Walking into the gallery immediately starts to produce feelings of unease and perhaps feelings of being threatened. The individual objects in the paintings are very realistic but mashed together in unnatural ways. Only one painting, J.V. s Thunderbird , felt calm ; it did not cause me to personally feel discomfort, even though it was not peaceful. Solutions for Poor Contries in Bottom Billion by Paul Collier The Bottom Billion by Paul Collier discusses why the poorest countries are failing and then offers some insights and solutions to the problem. He says the four major problems in developing nations are: conflict, natural resources, bad neighbors, and bad governments. The conflicts are usually civil wars which have huge costs and the situation just becomes worse the longer the conflicts drag on. Collier states that countries rich in natural resources are often worse off than countries that are not, he attributes this problem to several different factors. One of the factors is that the resources open the possibility for conflict over the resources. Another factor is that if a country strictly focuses it s on a specific natural resourcethen the other resources and industries might get forgotten and lose value. Being landlocked with bad neighbors can also be a large problem because it makes it almost impossible to be a part of world trade, so these landlocked countries have to depend on their neighbors for most of the trade and materials. A bad government can also be very destructive to a country s economy, if they create unreasonable and restrictive policies. The smaller countries are also at a disadvantage because it is hard for them to get any investors, because the investors would much rather invest in well known countries like India or China. After Collier stated all the problems he also offered up some possible solutions. He believed that aid agencies should concentrate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With a childhood marked by struggle, Carnegie learned at a young age, the value of an education. Rispoli and Wilson (2008) stated that the influence of temperature on reproduction is expected to effectively truncate the breeding season and reduce fecundity in cold waters, potentially enhancing the opportunity for both fecundity and sexual selection (31). Pipefish were sampled from population in the European coast. This controller improves the dynamic performance of power system by reducing the steady state error. The controller parameters are optimized using basic PSO, PSO SFIWA Advanced Adaptive PSO. Computational results show that Advanced Adaptive based SVC controller is able to find better quality solution as compare to conventional PSO PSO SFIWA Techniques. • 44. Why Is Nuclear Power Bad Nuclear power: good or bad? Nuclear energy to create power has been used for hundreds of years. Today nuclear energy powers almost 11% of the world. It produces nearly no greenhouse gases or co2 emissions. But it does leave behind nuclear waste that stays radioactive for decades. Nuclear energy has been used for many years, but there are goods and bads to Nuclear powerfrom nuclear energy. Nuclear Energy has a long history of Grief. Since 1942, Nuclear Energy has grown and spread worldwide. The history of Nuclear Energy begins in 1942 when enrico Fermi created the first nuclear reactor, the Chicago Pile 1. Enrico left Italy to escape new Italian racial laws. He created this reactor by fission. Which is also used as the fuel to the atomic bomb, which came 3 years after at the trinity test ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fission can be controlled easier, that is why it is used the most. fission occurs by splitting an atom, instead of putting two molecules by force at high speeds, and changing the atomic number of the molecule. Fusion needs some requirements to occur, it needs high pressure and high temperature, and at extreme levels to combine the Molecule. If this is tried, and is done wrong, the damage could be devastating and even nuclear. This is a good source of power and has been used for many years. Usually when they malfunction they are treated and nothing bad happens, but if not treated, it could cause a nuclear meltdown, like what happened at 3 mile island on March 28th, 1979, and that s not good. Nuclear Energy has many supporters around the world. The benefit of Nuclear Energy are clear to many. People who are for Nuclear Energy, support it for many reasons. The outcome of produced power can be changed, all you do is change the fuel entering the chain reactor (Page 11). One main factor that puts nuclear energy on top is it lets out little air pollutants, greenhouse gases, smog, slows global warming, and helps limit acid rain (Sally ... • 45. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy And Post Traumatic Stress... Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Post traumatic Stress Disorder Millions of people suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and struggle to find an effective treatment option. Many people have the misconception that only our veterans have this condition but in actuality over 8% of the Unites States population have this mental illness. Researchers have been trying to study and determine what the best treatment options are. Patients can get confused and frustrated in trying to find a treatment that will fit their needs and gives them the best opportunity and chance of recovery. Research has indicated that drug therapy has limited results when used without therapy and may only treat symptoms (Wright 2013). Although many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Patients may also be hesitant to talk about the original event especially in the case of rape or sexual abuse. General Practitioners (GPs) often are not well trained in this type of mental illness and are not aware of treatment options. And many patients suffer from co morbidities. (Wright, 2013) One of the biggest obstacles in treating PTSD is the high prevalence of co morbidities. Co morbidity is the presence of two or more chronic diseases or conditions in a patient. A study conducted in Australia found that at least half of the people with PTSD have moderate depression, while generalized anxiety disorder was present in a 40% of men and 22% of women sufferers. (Wright, 2014). This study also found a close link between PTSD patients and substance abuse; it was found that over 30% of people who suffer from PTSD also suffer from substance abuse. (Wright, 2014) Co morbidities can make treatment very difficult since it s not the PTSD alone that may need treatment; it s a series of issues. For example, a patient with PTSD who also suffers from substance abuse needs two different kinds of treatment. Multiple kinds of treatment may take more time and effort in order to get multiple conditions under control. Ideally a patient needs to find a provider who can help with all his/her mental health conditions and a treatment that addresses them holistically. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
