Tenancy by the Entirety Illinois Memo
WHAT IS THE LAW OF TENANCY BY THE ENTIRETY?
ANSWER: An estate held in tenancy by the entirety is limited to homestead property held by a
husband and wife during coverture.
The Illinois statute authorizing transfer of property into tenancy by the entirety states as follows:
Whenever a devise, conveyance, assignment, or other transfer of property, including a beneficial
interest in a land trust, maintained or intended for maintenance as a homestead by both husband
and wife together during coverture shall be made and the instrument of devise, conveyance,
assignment, or transfer expressly declares that the devise or conveyance is made to tenants by the
entirety, or if the beneficial interest in a land trust is to be held as tenants by ... Show more content

2003), the Appellate Court held that evidence supported a finding that a husband s sole intent in
transferring residence into tenancy by the entirety was to avoid paying debts existing at time of
transfer. In LaSalle Bank, the appellate court affirmed a judgment against the husband in September
3, 1999. Id. at 281. The husband transferred the property from him and his wife in joint tenancy to
a tenancy by the entirety on September 20, 1999. Id.
The Appellate Court reasoned that the Trial Court s finding that the husband transferred the
property to tenancy by the entirety solely to avoid a judgment creditor was not against the manifest
weight of the evidence because 1) the husband owned less than $4,000 of assets at the time he
transferred the property into tenancy by the entirety,
2) the husband didn t make the transfer around 1998 when he was advised to do so by a family
attorney in order to protect the estate and make the transfer easier upon his death, since his assets
were tied up in the business,
3) the husband did not own the residence individually or as a tenant in common with his wife, in
which case there may have been a legitimate reason to transfer the property to tenancy by the
entirety other than to avoid a judgment debt.
3) the husband made the transfer to tenancy by the entirety at a time when to not make such a
transfer would have rendered him insolvent, and
4) the transfer was made within days after the Appellate

Preterm Birth Consequences
The Consequences of Preterm Birth
Preterm birth is defined as the birth of a baby before 37 weeks gestation age. The stages of
preterm can be subdivided into different stages. Very Preterm is 20 32 weeks, Moderately
Preterm is 33 36 weeks, Early Term is 37 38 weeks gestation stage. According to the statistics
gathered by the World Health Organisation (WHO) (2015) in 2012, there are more than 1 in 10
babies born preterm every year with an estimated 15 million born preterm every year. There are a
wide variety of factors that cause preterm birth, examples including: a multiple pregnancy,
substance abuse and smoking, assisted reproduction and a low socio economic status. Studies have
also shown that certain ethnicities are at a higher risk of delivering preterm than others. According
to an external study included Nosarti et al (2010) in the USA, 19% of black non Hispanic

Breathing with underdeveloped lungs manifests itself in preterm infants and Respiratory Distress
Syndrome (RDS), RDS is primarily caused by Pulmonary Surfactant deficiency which means the
lungs cannot expand and contract normal. If left untreated, preterm infants may become fatigued,
apnoeic and hypoxic (a condition in which the body, or a particular region within the body, is
deprived of oxygen). Apnoea of Prematurity (AOP) is a common condition in premature infants
which according to Kids Health (2015) is when an infant during sleep temporarily stops breathing
for 15 20 seconds. This condition is most common in infants born before 35 weeks gestation age
and infants with AOP will also have drops in heart rates (bradycardia) causing them to appear
pale or bluish and their bodies to be limp. The likelihood of a premature infant having AOP is
increased as their birth weight decreases, AOP may begin 2 days after birth however in most cases
it clears up after 2 3

The effect of the Lords unanimous 2 ruling was to uphold 3firmly the doctrine4 of corporate
personality, as set out in the Companies Act 1862, so that creditors of an insolvent company could
not sue the company s shareholders to pay up outstanding debts. Facts[edit] MrAron Salomon made

The company in this case has been regarded by Vaughan Williams J. as the agent of Aron
Salomon. I should rather liken the company to a trustee for him a trustee improperly 20 brought
into existence by him to enable him to do what the statute prohibits. It is manifest 21 that the
other members of the company have practically no interest in it, and their names have merely
been used by Mr.Aron Salomon to enable him to form a company, and to use its name in order
to screen himself from liability. This view of the case is quite consistent with In re George
Newman Co.[4] In a strict legal sense the business may have to be regarded as the business of
the company; but if any jury were asked, Whose business was it? they would say Aron Salomon
s, and they would be right, if they meant that the beneficial interest in the business was his. I do
not go so far as to say that the creditors of the company could sue him. In my opinion, they can
only reach him through the company. Moreover, Mr.Aron Salomon s liability to indemnify the
company in this case is, in my view, the legal consequence of the formation of the company in
order to attain a result not permitted by law. The liability does not arise simply from the fact that
he holds nearly all the shares in the company. A man may do that and yet be under no such
liability as Mr.Aron Salomon has come under. His liability rests on the purpose for which he
formed the company, on the way he formed it, and on

Inside Composing Essay
Composing is something that goes to some as an ability, yet others as a burden. It s only a
unique little something where you either have it, or you don t. Inside composing, one can express
their sentiments and feelings through mind blowing subtle elements. The pursuer can grasp the
subtle elements inside a story, to where it practically feels as though they are living it

feelings for others, or just essentially charming. Is it workable for one to improve as an essayist

Australian Snubfin Dolphin Research Paper
The Australian snubfin dolphin, scientifically known as Orcaella heinsohni, found off the
northern coast of Australia. The snubfin dolphin are characterized by their broad rounded head
that is extremely mobile and usually has a visible neck crease (Beasley et al. 2005). The mouth
line is straight and there is no signs of a beak. Their teeth are peg like and there are less than 20
on each side of the jaws (Martin 1990). It is the reverse situation to most other dolphins, the u
shaped blowhole of Orcaella is open to the front (Leatherwood Reeves 1983).
A distinctive feature of the Australian Snubfin Dolphins is the lack of a dorsal groove between the
snout and the dorsal fin (Beasley et al. 2005). The dorsal fin of the Australian Snubfin Dolphin ...

The all animals are classified under the Kingdom Animalia, also known as Metazoa. This kingdom
does not contain prokaryotes. All the members of this kingdom are multicellular, eukaryotes. They
are heterotrophs, they depend on other organisms directly or indirectly for food. Most of the
animals ingest food and digest in the internal cavity. Most of the organisms are motile which means
they can move independently and spontaneously.
Classification is all about organising living things into groups. The members of any group all
possess a shared characteristic it is this characteristic or feature that defines the group. Looking at
the animal kingdom; we can clearly see that it has been split into two clear groups, Invertebrates
(animals without a backbone) and Vertebrates (animals with a backbone). These groups are divided

Desire Under The Elms By Eugene O Neill
Desire Under the Elms by Eugene O Neill is a modern twist on the mythological tale of Phaedra
and Hippolytus. In writing this piece, in 1924, O Neill delivers a captivating and somewhat comical
version of the classic myth. Stuck in the transition from the Modernism to Postmodernism
movements, O Neill struggled to define himself as either a modernist or postmodernist. The
Modernismmovement is made up of a variety of different movements: philosophical, artistic, and
literary. The artistic and literary Modernism movement, which occurred in the late 19th and early
20th century, is marked by the concepts of experimentation and individualism, signifying sudden
breaks with traditional values of literature, philosophy, and culture. In comparison, postmodernism,
which developed in the mid to late 20th century held the idea that reality is not based on societal
understanding of it, but, on individual perception and interpretation. While both have similarities,
the perceptions of individuality in these movements differ on a relatively large scale.
In the Modernist movement, it was socially correct to adhere to what was specifically deemed
acceptable. In contrast, in the postmodernist movement, one style of living was not any less
acceptable than another because each person determined what is considered valuable to them
individually. Though modernism and postmodernism are marked by distinctive ways of thinking
and social norms, these periods actually faced quite an overlap. While

The Problem Of Chronic Kidney Disease
Introduction
The United States finds itself in a challenging predicament. With the population of Baby Boomers
entering the fifth and sixth decades of their lives, health care will be faced with the onslaught of
chronic diseases that accompany the aging process. To combat this impending health care shift,
health care is being transformed from the traditional hospital setting to more community based and
long term, health care treatments/solutions. One of these diseases that plague older adults and
impose a burden for the health care system is chronic kidney failure. Headley (2014), explains that
chronic kidney disease (CKD) involves a progressive, irreversible loss of kidney function (p.
1107). To diagnose CKD the National Kidney Foundation states a person must have kidney
damage or a decreased GFR of less than 60 mL/min/1.73m2 for longer than three months (p.
1107). CKD is underdiagnosed and untreated in the United States. This is most likely contributed
to the fact that the kidneys are so adaptive. A patient living with CKD may not even know it,
presenting with no symptoms for years. It is only untill the kidneys are considerably damaged that
a proper diagnosis is often made (Headley, 2014, p.1108).
Elliott (2012) explores the prevalence of chronic kidney disease in the United States. With data
from the United States Renal Data System, out of the 1.2 million participants who were above the
age of 65, 12,308 were diagnosed with (CKD stages 1 5) (p.4). The prevalence of older

Moral Dilemm Abortion In The United States
Moral Dilemma: Abortion United States is divided into Democrats and Republicans, and this
means that people have very different opinions about various topics. Questions like gay marriage,
economic policies, and foreign policies divide people in several camps. They often have different
values, preferences and beliefs, but when it comes to abortion, this is the topic that both Catholics
and Democrats take extremely seriously and find it problematic (Leonhardt). The problem with
abortion is that no matter what position you choose, someone s rights are violated. In cases
when it comes to gay marriage, for example, by allowing these people to marry each other, no
other parties are harmed, but with abortion if you decide to give rights to have an abortion to
women, then unborn babies are the ones who pay the price and this price is the most extreme their
life. To understand this issue we have to consider both sides: by not allowing women to have an
abortion, we are taking away their right to control their bodies. Pregnancies often are unplanned and
accidental and that means that a child can be conceived without planning. Raising children is a life
changing experience and it s not surprising that people might not be... Show more content on

One of the problems is that defining when a fetus can be called a baby is very hard, so while
some believe that getting an abortion when being 2 3 months pregnant is not a murder, others
think that from the moment women become pregnant, they are carrying a human and abortion is
a crime. Some conservatives take a less extreme stance and say that abortion can be allowed in
special conditions, for example, when a woman was raped and some liberals say that abortion
should be permitted in any case. So, the ideas ranging around this topic range from: no abortion
should be tolerated and women need to be punished, to women should have total freedom to decide
what to do to their

The problem with food production in America is the mistreatment of livestock, the overproduction
of corn in America, and the amount of corn feeded to the animals ; these issues affect consumers
health because of the amount of diabetes has been increasing over years. Michael Pollan in When
a Crop Becomes King he explains that the government pays for corn to be grown a lot more then it

Pollan argues that ... taxpayers will pay farmers $4 billion a year to grow ever more corn, this
despite the fact that we struggle to get rid of the surplus the plant already produces (para. 4).
This explains that many of the farmers are getting paid more to just grow corn and to over grow
them. Pollan vocalizes that America s corn crop might look like a sustainable, solar powered
system for producing food, but it is actually a huge, inefficient, polluting machine that guzzles
fossil fuel.. (Para 12). The corn needs a lot of gas to keep the production going which cause a lot
of pollution in the world and, also globe warning. Consumer don t know what type of food or
beverages have corn in them most of them don t even know where their meat or what the animals

American Diet Needs To Change Essay
America, a nice place to just stop at a McDonalds, a Burger King or any other fast food place and
order a nice juicy burger, but did you even know what was just in that burger? Some think that
America eats plenty of good choices of foods while others think that we are out of control when it
comes to food. It s clear that overall the American diet is out of control and needs to change. The
reason why it needs to change is because processed foods are addictive and can cause people to
overeat, because the nutritionstandards are not being met, and because the high obesity rate is
partially blamed by the fast foodindustry.
One reason that the American diet needs to change is that most of the processed foods that are

The USDA recommends 8.5 grams of added fat for every 1,000 calories. Americans eat more than
18.5 grams of added fat. Thats over 10,000 calories!
The last reason that the American diet needs to change is that America has the highest obesity
rate in the world. For example Dan Mangan of CNBC argues 67% of people believe they need to
only lose a median of 27 pounds of body weight . Americans need to eat a little less than they are
right now. When most people see a food that they are craving they often take one helping but
most take 2, 3, or even sometimes 4 helpings of that food. While some may argue that its too
difficult to change when the food is processed it is more true that the food industries produce
more fresh fruit than processed fruit. Some evidence from a USA TODAY writer Nanci Hellmich
argues that fast food industries produce mostly fresh fruit and are also making organic milk come
with meals . Yes some may say that they produce organic milk and fresh food but most of the fruit

two electives; physical education and keyboarding. This seemed to be the less structured part of the
day and during this time he tended to act out and seek attention. Examples of this would be talking
out of turn during the share time in his morning meeting, refusing to stand and say the national
anthem, and continuously making different noises during the teachers lessons. After attending his

Rather than being inspired by the work of Freud, Kohlberg s theory of moral development is a
cognitive developmental theory was inspired by Piaget s stages of cognitive development.
Kohlberg s theory is made up of three different levels; the preconventional level, the conventional
level, and the postconventional or principled level. The three levels are each broken up into two
separate stages. For the purpose of this observation, we will be mainly focusing on the
preconventional level and the conventional level of moral development. Kohlberg intended the
preconventional level to be focused toward infants and preschool children, however the students
behavior more closely related to this level than that of the conventional level which is aimed toward
his age range. The preconventional level is where children learn that their actions have
consequences. The first stage of this level is the punishment and obedience orientation stage,
children in this stage are focusing on the consequences of their actions rather than the logical thing
to do. The following stage is the instrumental purpose orientation stage, within this stage children
tend to believe that if they do someone a favor, that person should do a favor in return (Berk

Dantes Inferno Essay
Dante s use of allegory in the Inferno greatly varies from Plato s quot;Allegory of the Cave quot;
in purpose, symbolism, characters and mentors, and in attitude toward the world. An analysis of
each of these elements in both allegories will provide an interesting comparison. Dante uses
allegory to relate the sinner s punishment to his sin, while Plato uses allegory to discuss ignorance
and knowledge. Dante s Infernodescribes the descent through Hell from the upper level of the
opportunists to the most evil, the treacherous, on the lowest level. His allegorical poem describes a
hierarchy of evil.
Conversely, Plato s quot;Allegory of the Cave quot; describes the ascent from ignorance to

future.
In death they are doomed to exist with their heads on backwards and their eyes overflowing with
tears so that not only could they not see what was happening in front of them, but they could not
see at all due to these copious amounts of tears. Similarly, each sin had its own logical punishment,
and each group of sinners received the same punishment, with only a few exceptions. Such an
exception can be found in Canto XXlll when Caiaphas lies crucified on the floor while the other
hypocrites walk around him in circles. He is set apart because he counseled a Roman to crucify
Jesus. While the sinners represent man s imperfections, Virgil symbolizes human reason.
Throughout the poem, Virgil uses logic and reason to convince the monsters to allow him to gain
passage to the various circles of Hell. The use of characters and mentors is distinct in each piece.
quot; The Allegory of the Cave quot; presents few characters, and except for the one prisoner who
ascends from the cave, none are distinguished from the others. The one freed prisoner attempts to
become a mentor to the others but fails.
As he tries to enlighten the remaining prisoners he is received with anger and threats. Nothing is

Australian Curriculum
INTRODUCTION.
Curriculum is designed to develop successful learners. Confident and creative individuals and
active and informed citizens (MCEECDYA, 2008, p.13). In 2008, the Australian Government

task away from the State and Local Governments. The purpose of this was to create an even level
of education throughout the country whether in Hobart of Cape York, and to ensure our nations

(2008) indicate the benefit of the national curriculum and common testing, stating, you can be

VARIOUS DEFINITIONS OF CURRICULUM.
The origins of the word curriculum date back to ancient times and in fact the work comes from
the Latin word of currere: a course or race or to run (Smith, 1996,2000). Over many decades,
people have argued over the various definitions. Tanner (1980) defined it as the planned and
guided learning experiences and intended outcomes , whilst Pratt (1980) defined it as a written
document describing goals planned, objectives, content and evaluation. So s it a course of
study? Or can it be defined as content or a product( Marsh, 2008). Marsh (2008) goes on to
include that at a variety of learning sites are a set of objectives for student learning. We can also
relate this to Tyler s objective curriculum model being that the first step to curriculum is always to
set the objective. The Model of Taba from 1962, is the same model at Tyler s but includes
interaction and flow between all four stages, so we do not always need the objective before we start
writing the content to the curriculum.

The Demand And Supply Model
Part A: The demand and supply model is the representation of the demand in comparison with
the effects on the price of the product or the service, the demand and supply model is the
backbone of economic analysis and involves the measure of price elasticity and the shifts
/ demands these events cause to the demand and supply and the effects on substitutes and
compliments of the good or service as well as finding price and supply equilibrium. The
particular article explores the excess demand of chocolate and the possible increase of prices in
order to try decrease demand. After applying the demand and supply model to the article it
suggests that there is only a slight decrease in demand due to price increase and suggests that
this would have an impact on compliments whilst having a small positive impact on substitutes.
This analysis is important as the effects of prices on chocolate will possibly have a major impact
on the economy. The article is about the excess demand of chocolate and the demand
outstripping the supply and producing less than the world eats, the decrease in supply is said to
be caused by factors including dry weather and a fungal disease in Ghana where almost 70% of
the cocoa is produced. In further economic analysis the law of demand states that the demand of a
good and service are inversely related. When the price of a product increases, the demand for the
product will fall. The determination of supply is: production cost, firm s expectation about

to find out more about choosing a diva like plus size party outfit.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, goes an old saying, but the nowadays trend which promotes the
90 60 90 silhouette and the stores that more than often offer clothing intended mostly for such a
figure might leave the more curvy of women with a gap in their self confidence and with a great
dilemma when it comes to finding something not to only fit their figure, but make them look great
as well. Looking for plus size party wear might be troublesome, but the good news is that choosing
and combining carefully different pieces of clothing, you can create an outfit that will ... Show more

These will hide the puffy surplus and give the impression of a slimmer waist. Go for a darker
colour (purple, dark green or navy) and match it with high heeled sandals or shoes and an
envelope purse. For a more casual look, you could replace the shoes with high heeled boots.
Plus Size Party Wear Inspired By The 20s
If you are going to a thematic party or just want to break the routine, the perfect plus size party
wear can be inspired by the 1920s look. Get a black fringe dress, match it with some retro shoes,
net tights and one or two strands of beads and you will have a charming 20s carriage. Hair
accessories, such as a feather headband, are not mandatory, but they can make you stand out in the
crowd.
Be Playful: The Cloche Skirt
An alternative to dresses is a nice cloche skirt. A key element should be the high waist, so don t
throw yourself at any cloche skirt you find. Plain or patterned, wear it with a shirt and maybe a short
jacket over. Don t forget the high heels shoes or maybe a pair of short boots, and your are ready.

Analysis Of The Dinner Table By Judy Chicago
The Dinner Table (1974 1979) by Judy Chicago
1a. While viewing this piece of work, the emotions I feel are powerful and pride. I feel powerful
because I am a woman and here s this piece of art celebrating and embracing all the women who
made a difference and pathed a way for every other woman in this world. When I look at those
work of art I feel as if I can do anything I set my mind too. Many of the women printed on the art
didn t have is easy. They work hard for all their accomplishments and didn t let the men in this
world intimidate them to stop just because they are women. I feel pride because this piece makes
me feel happy to be a woman and that I am special because of that.
1b. The goal of The Dinner Party was to introduce women s heritage and the role they played in
throughout history. Mostly the history of women in Western civilization. Also, the goal was to
show the importance of women in this world. Many things wouldn t be if it weren t for women. At
the time this piece was made, the women s right movement was just beginning, so I believe this
was made to encourage equal rights for women.
1c. Judy Chicago chose to use the form of a triangle because it s the earliest signs for women, an
ancient symbol for the goddess, and the three equal sides represents the equalized world woman
try to create. Michelangelo s Pieta (1498 1499)

Poverty Of The United States Essay
More than 800 million people in the world are malnourished, 777 million of them are from the
developing world (Raphel, S., 2014). Poverty is an issue that must be addressed to the population
loud and clear or everyone will end up suffering. There are many families trying to survive and
live from paycheck to paycheck. Unfortunately, there are some families that are unable to support
himself or herself or any family member. One important key issue of povertyin the United States is
inequality. Many Americans blame the poor people for their own fate but you should never
judge a book by its cover. There can be many reasons why an individual or families end up in
poverty. For example, low wage jobs, discrimination and social inequality, vulnerability to
natural disasters, war and political instability. Another big issue we face today is child poverty.
This is a very critical issue because these young children are our future. If we let these children
live in poverty, there is a higher chance they will drop out of school, look for work in order to
support their family, or give up in life. Children in poverty are becoming the poorest age group in
the United Sates. According to the National Center for Children in Poverty (NCCP), a U.S. family
of three living in deep poverty survives on an annual income below $9,276, or less than $9.00 a
day per family member. Unfortunately, children face many difficulties in the United States living in
deep poverty because they are not able to

The Sunni-Shia Conflict
The historic background of the Sunni Shia lies in the schism that occurred when the Islamic
prophet Mohammed died in the 632, leading to a dispute over succession to Mohammed as a
caliph of the Islamic community spread across various parts of the world, which led to the battel of
Safin. The dispute intensified greatly after the battle of Karbala, in which Hussein ibn ail and his
household were killed by the ruling Umayyad caliph Yazidi, and the outcry for revenge divided the
early Islamic community. Today, there are differences in religious practice, traditions, and customs,
often related to jurisprudence. Although all Muslims groups consider the Quran to be divine, Sunni
and Shia have different opinions on hadith.
Over the years, Sunni relations have been marked by both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

His sons, Hassan and Hussain, were denied what they thought was their legitimate right of
accession to the caliphate.
Hassan is believed to have been poised in 680 by muawiyah, the first caliph of the Sunni Umayyad
dynasty, while Hussein was killed on the battlefield by the Umayyad s in 691.these events gave rise
to the Shia concept of martyrdom and the rituals of grieving.
Shia Islam: Shia Islam encompasses most Muslims who are not counted the Sunni. The division
between Sunni and Shia, dates to the death of the prophet Mohammed when his followers were
faced with the decision of who would be his successors as the leader of Islam s. Shiites are those
followed Ali, the closest relatives of Mohammed, as Muhammad s successor. Today there are
approximately 120 million Shiite Muslims in the world.
The Shia consists of one major of thought known as the jafaryia or the Twelver s , and a few minor
schools of thought, as the Seveners or the fivers . These names all refers to the number of imams
they recognize after the death of Mohammed. The term Shia is usually meant to be synonymous

The Lost Sister Poem
LA Assignment: Poetry Essay on Lost Sisters
Name: Juay Liang Jing
Class: 209
Firstly, the two sisters life experiences are different in terms of and because of their personality. In
the first part of the poem, the sister who lives in China was submissive and made a choice to stay
in China. The daughters were grateful and they never left home . However, it is later revealed that
for the daughters living in China, to move freely was a luxury stolen from them at birth . It
literally meant that women in China were unable to walk about easily in shoes the size of teacups .
It also figuratively meant that women did not have the freedom to do what they like. This shows
that females in China were bounded by tradition and culture, and ... Show more content on

Instead of living in China and living with the strict Chinese tradition, she decides to leave China
for America, to experience a lifestyle supposedly different from her sister as well as most
women living in China. She relinquished her name, diluting jade green with the blue of the
Pacific , suggesting that she broke free of the restrains in the Chinese culture. Relinquish
suggested that she wanted to start anew, and live a new life, while jade green refers to her
China blood, and blue of the Pacific refers to America, and possibly the western culture. This
shows that she defied the norms of the Chinese culture, and left home to move freely about. The
poet uses words like rising , swarmed , inundate and stride which suggests how she could be
active and free to move around, as compared to her sister in China, who did not have the
privilege of being able to move around as she wants. Also, the sister living in America could stride
along with men on the roads . The sister living in China on the other hand could only stay at home.
This is a big contrast in comparison to her sister living in China, who were restricted in whatever

Post Famine Research Paper
Famines have different demographic consequences. One is the increased number of resettlement
and displaced people, as famine victims search for food and other necessities (Kidane, 1989).
Migration poses a big threat on health and social structures, as people forcibly or wilfully search
for survival. Another demographic consequence is inevitably seen in the decrease of population.
Mortality rates peak during and after the famine, as people are still physically weak. However, post
famine, fertility rate will increase as families wish to have more children in insurance against future
risk (Kidane, 1989).

The biggest social challenge of the famine, was the high number of orphaned children, families torn

Malnutrition continues to be ever present, leaving many communities relying on aid. Population
grows, but food production cannot keep up with the demand as there is no adequate development
in agriculture. Fig. 3 shows that while there has been a population growth of more than 20 million
in Ethiopia between 1992 and 2009, the number of malnourished people had decreased only by
little.
How could the continuous problems of malnourishment be resolved or minimized? What
communities need is well developed coping systems on the local level. Humanitarian organisations
should be focusing on providing sustainable means locally, thus when drought occurs, locals have
better ways of coping. Markets have to regulated, thus, prices need to be fixed so that poor people
can also afford to buy grains.
Food production in Africa has to be improved dramatically. There is a food deficit as agricultural
development has not reached its full potential yet. African farmers today use almost no fertilizer
and only 4 percent of their cropland has been irrigated (Paarlberg, 2010). African governments
should take on the role of investing into the development of agriculture in the region. It is
surprising that while 60 percent of the population depends on the farming sector, the government
only invests 5 percent of its budget on agriculture (Paarlberg,

Analysis Of Samuel Satti s The Joy Of Exercising In...
Moderation is a trait that could mean to be self controlled, or to do certain activities gradually
over time. Some activities that would require self control could be something as simple as,
exercising and eating. If a person exercises excessively then they are showing an unhealthy
addiction that can be harmful, just as over eating can result in being overweight which is also
destructive to the body. Now conducting oneself moderately can bring a person joy because they
will not feel obligated to follow a strict routine. Samuel Sattin s The Joy of Exercising in

Cause And Effect Of My Depression
In college, I started off pretty much like everyone else. At first, I felt confident and ready. I felt
Confident that I was going to succeed in all of my assignments, wake up with determination, and
not make bad choices. I felt ready for the long hours of writing papers, finishing homework, and
studying for exams. After the first semester, I realized that things are easier being said than done.
Before long, assignments were piling up, due dates were near, and my stress levels were out the
roof. The cause that led to my downfall in collegewas none other than depression. My depression
has affected my academic life by causing me to procrastinate, which led to my lack of motivation,
resulting in my poor performance in college. This Depression is hindering my daily routine,
both at home and in school. It is an emotional illness, which occurs internally, but it can also
effect a person s physical activity. For instance, I am no longer energetic as I used to be. I stay in
bed for long periods of time during the afternoon. I wake up early to go to school, then I come
home and take a nap on the couch; which is basically my daily routine. Instead of going outside
and exercising like I used to do, I spend the majority of the day watching television. It is not
because I do not have time to go outside and exercise, it is because I do not possess the inner
strength that would lift me up from the couch and onto my feet. I don t even go out like I used to
anymore! One of the reasons why

Impact of OPEC s Oil Pricing on the Petroleum Market
Energy resources are essential for national security, technological development, overall
contemporary life style, etc. In this respect, oil is the main source for worldwide economy. Peak oil
would imbalance countries economical situations and may lead to a chain reaction with negative
effects on multiple layers. Evidently, there is mutual interest to prevent such a thing from
happening but the possibility is nevertheless considered. OPECs initial goal to ensure stable prices
on petroleummarkets in order to avoid any negative fluctuations did not always correspond. The
organization actually favored inflation more than in one occasion but its influence in
controlling oil prices dropped considerably since 1973. It was proven that, having quadrupled the
price of oil, OPEC had in its hands the power to inflict economic hurt on the rich countries.
(Beenstock 2007, p. 134) Although OPEC does not completely control the oil market today, it
nevertheless continues to be influent because its decisions to reduce production may lead to
either a decrease or increase of oil prices. OPEC s existence is dependent on the future of oil.
Whether or not oil will dominate as the main energetic source for worldwide economy will decide
its future. Considering that OPEC s oil has been a vital source of energy during the last half of
century, (Khusanjanova 2011, p. 19) and that oil is expected to play a similar role within the next
century, we can assume the organization will at least maintain its

Symbolism In The Drummer Boy Of Shiloh
The story, The Drummer Boy of Shiloh , by Ray Bradbury, has many elements that can relate to
real life. In my life I have a father figure who encourages me, I have a hopeful heartbeat, and I am
inexperienced youth. In the story, the peaches resemble inexperienced youth, a drum resembles a
hopeful heartbeat, and the general resembles a father figure telling Joby to overcome his fear.
One of the most important elements of symbolism in the story is having a father figure to
encourage you.Joby, a boy of 14, ran away from home and decided to join the army in April
1862.Then the general, Joby s father figure, encouraged him to overcome his fear of never seeing
his familyagain or the possibility of death. He did this, by telling Joby to keep a steady beat for
the army when they were fighting. My life can relate to Joby s because four years I got a father
figure. In my life, my father figure isn t encouraging me to fight in the war and overcome my fear
of loosing my family, but he does encourage me to try new stuff. My father figure, has encouraged
me to like superheros, route for teams most people don t like, and stick with what I like doing....

Joby knew if he beat the drum slowly that the heart s of the fighting men would beat slowly too.

If Joby would set the pace and the general would command orders they would have a good
chance of winning the war. This relates to my life because everyday Nakiya says, See you 8th

because I know she ll tell me a crazy story when the day s over. An element of symbolism from the

Why did the trial judge not direct the jury to the option of provocation as a defence from the jury s
consideration during the second stage of the event?
Was there a miscarriage of justice?
Decision: Appeal Allowed

The Benefits of Raising the Minimum Wage Controversy over the minimum wage has been
constant since it was originally instituted. The political parties still move to block the opposing

economy in a healthy state, and .how increasing the minimum wage would allow for more
advantages economically with a minute influence on employment rates. The increasing gap
between the upper and lower classes has been a concern for years, but now receives more
attention because it serves as a prime argument for whether or not to raise the minimum wage. For
example, in Nick Hanauer s speech, Beware, Fellow Plutocrats, The Pitchforks are Coming, he
maintains that based on the current trend of how the gap is consistently accumulating, the
increasing gap could have serious implications, similar to those of pre Revolutionary France. That
was France before the Revolution and the mobs with the pitchforks, explains Hanauer (00:03:50

come for us, he asserts, for no free and open society can long sustain this kind of

Distinctive Capability. Due To The Environmental Pricing
Distinctive Capability
Due to the environmental pricing pressures and the company s recent survival mentality, I believe
that pricing and revenue management would best describe Impax s distinctive capability. Pricing
and Revenue management drive majority, if not all, of our analytic usage and consequent business
decisions across the company. I personally work in Finance, as a Rebate Analyst so I witness every
day the importance in recognizing the impact of agreed upon pricing allowances or rebate offerings
and how they ultimately impact the company s bottom line. Likewise, we work very closely with
Sales and Marketing and report our review and findings to help them to make better pricing
decisions that maximize our revenue in the long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Senior Management Commitment
As Harris and Davenport mention in Competing on Analytics , it is extremely necessary for
management to support and commit to integrating analytics in order for a company to become an
analytical competitor. (Davenport and Harris, 2007) Specific to Impax, there has been a lot of
recent change in management and minimal push down to incorporate analytics for better decision
making. While we are capable and do utilize a fair degree of analytics in our day to day operations,
unfortunately, I find its use tends to be more retroactive in nature than proactive.
Large Scale Ambition
I think this idea of large scale ambition is more an area of opportunity for Impax. We tend to use
the more tried and proven analytical techniques found in the pharma industry and lack a clear
strategic focus to take us outside the box into new and unchartered competitive territory. Again, this
is not too far strayed from management s survival approach or our distinct capability to manage
revenue; however, Harris and Davenport mention ambition can present risk, but the scale and scope
of results should be at least large enough to create company fortunes. (Davenport and Harris, 2007)
Describe your company s progress within each stage of competing on analytics.

Walgreen Company Case Analysis
ABOUT WALGREEN
The Walgreen Company (Walgreens) is the largest drug retailing chain in the United States. It was
founded in Chicago, Illinois, in 1901. As of May 31, 2014, the company operated 8,217 stores in
all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Walgreens provides
access to consumer goods and services, plus pharmacy, photo studio, health and wellness services in
the United States through its retail drugstores, WalgreensHealth Services division, and Walgreens
Health and Wellness division. Walgreens also runs several online stores, such as:
Beauty.com,Drugstore.com and VisionDirect.com. They have gained prominence through
operational excellence and wise selection of real estate for its outlets.
THE PROBLEM
The strategic debate with Walgreen emerged when after 34 years of record profits; it finally
made a loss in 2009. Walgreen faced competition not only from drug retailers like CVS and Rite
Aid; but also from retailers like Wal Mart. The problem therefore is what strategy Walgreen will
pursue to grow and stay relevant with the coming times?
THE SOLUTION
The possible strategies Walgreen could pursue are:

Invest in technology to improve health services delivery, online retailing and cut redundancies in
day to day activities of pharmacists. Better designed software would be able to keep track of
customer preferences and past records. A lot of mechanical work one by pharmacists could be
automated therefore freeing up pharmacists to focus more on customers. Despite being a specialty
pharmacy, Walgreen ventured into grocery items and general merchandise to improve the bottom
line. Integrating all categories into software would enable better warehouse management and help
keep inventories at a bare minimum, thereby lowering

What Was The Immediate Legacy Of The Jay Spring
Legacy: The immediate legacy of the Prague Spring was the dissident movement , lead by groups
of mostly writers and intellectuals, which focused on overthrowing the government entirely. On
January 16th, 1969, a student named Jan Palach set himself on fire in Prague to protest the
censorship of free speech (Stoneman). In the weeks following his death, about half a million people
lost their jobs and the Communist party purged half a million members while others resigned
(BBC). Dissidents blamed the Soviets for his death and they became more motivated to create
political change, so they published the Charter 77 Declaration , a charter for human rights made in
1977 (Stoneman, BBC). This document called on the government to recognize that there were
violations of treaties that had guaranteed certain freedoms, such as religious confession and public
expression.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The 1999 Atlantic hurricane season had five Category 4 hurricanes the highest number recorded
in a single season in the Atlantic basin, later tied in 2005. The season officially began on June 1,
and ended on November 30. These dates conventionally delimit the period of each year when most
tropical cyclones form in the Atlantic basin. It was a fairly active season, mostly due to a
persistent La NiГ±a that developed in the latter half of 1998. The first storm, Arlene, formed on
June 11 to the southeast of Bermuda. It meandered slowly for a week and caused no impact on
land. Other tropical cyclones that did not affect land were Hurricane Cindy, Tropical Storm Emily,
and Tropical Depression Twelve. Minor impact on land was caused by Hurricanes

Candide Character Analysis
Discuss the female characters in Candide. Are they victims, or natural survivors? Do they deserve
more pity or more admiration? Take one side only.
In Voltaire s Candide, there is a young fellow that falls in love with a lady. She is kidnapped and
the protagonist, Candide, embarks on a journey to find his love. I believe that he doesn t really love
this young lady, Cunegonde, he is in love with her looks (or is in lust, if you will). We discover
that he really doesn t love her at the end of the novel, but they still marry. The other female
characters have similar backstories and are also seen as a body of desire. The only one that is
not seen this way is an old woman. Regardless of age, all of the women have issues or tragic
lives. I pity these people that have to live in a position that is seen as inferior to the majority of
men. While I pity them, I also see how strong they are, and what they have endured in their lifespan.
A character that is deserving of pity is Cunegonde. Cunegonde came from a line of high ranking
people who are killed later in the novel. She was also kidnapped and raped by Bulgarians. She had
to have sex with two men that were sharing her. When Candide finds her for the first time, the only
thing that he cares about is how beautiful she is. He sees her and immediately believes that he is
in love with her. Later on, in the novel, Candide finds her once again. This time though, she is
old and hasn t aged well. Candide marries her and makes it known to the reader that it wasn t out
of love, it was out of pity. I believe that this character is deserving of more pity, because no one
deserves to go through the things that she has. No one took the time to get to know her. Candide
didn t really care that much about her when he saw that she wasn t beautiful anymore. Pacquette
is a character that deserves pity because her life was great until she started having sex with
Pangloss and gave him syphilis. As a result, she ran out of money and became broke and she had
no other option but to resort to prostitution. On Candide s journey to find Cunegonde he lands in
Venice with martin and recognizes Pacquette and felt pity for her and he gave her a generous
amount of money. Candide gave two thousand

Utilitarianism Vs Environmental Ethics
An individual will be considered virtuous if he/she is able to make appropriate moral actions or
carry himself/herself in an ethical way that is in accordance to his/her personality (Mosser, 2013).
These decisions are solely based on serving others and therefore it is contrary to utilitarian
perspective. Possessing virtues is paramount in discussing issues surrounding environment, for
instance, making the environment the comfortable habit. Also, virtues will help an individual make
moral decisions that will aim at coming up with lasting solutions to environmental issues. There are
two categories of people: those who are conversant and appreciate their contribution to the better
environment and those holding contrary views on the betterment of the environment.
Aristotle highlighted virtues which are important to a person. These virtues are as follows:
temperance, proper judgment, and courage. For an individual to be virtuous he/she has to put into
practice these qualities in a balanced manner, and this person is referred as phronesis (Mosser,
2013). When these values are applied in real life situation, it will be of great help to an individual
especially environmentalists who aim at making the environment a better place in which
environment constituents live. According to Hill, (2013), we as human are the ... Show more content

The Importance of Roger Spottiswoode s Screen Adaptation of And The Band Played On
[1] Hollywood is no longer just a name, it is a business, a living entity holding America s people
in its grasp, and it is not about to let them go. Gradually taking on more responsibility and trying to
build up its reputation over the years, Hollywood has progressively assumed the position of history
teller for the American public. This role, whether or not an appropriate one for an industry such as
Hollywood to tackle, has catapulted actors and actresses into high paying, high visibility positions.
History has and will continue to be one of the main subjects that the movie industry has been
fascinated with. It is an alive and very fragile ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The debate over cinematic history still remains, and it will continue to challenge Hollywood,
constantly forcing the industry to make the best possible movies, producing historical epics on the
big screen, making history a universal and personable subject.
[3] In 1993, a small time director at HBO Productions thought it was about time that a movie was
made discussing the broad, taboo topic of the AIDS epidemic. Roger Spottiswoode was the
director, and he took author Randy Shilts controversial journal And The Band Played On:
Politics, People and the AIDS Epidemic (1987) and turned it into a movie. Spottiswoode took the
challenge facing Hollywood straight on and was bold enough to attempt a project that had been
passed over and rejected for six years straight. From the beginning to end And The Band Played
On was a fight. Spottiswoode fought for HBO to take the project on, and he fought with
Hollywood to try to entice actors to participate in it. The fight continued after the release of the
cable TV movie, with critics and the public simply not wanting to know or be informed of the truth.
[4] With controversy surrounding the production of the movie, the fight seeped into the movie and
its evidence in the story. The portrayal of the actors and the fight that each character undergoes is
an illustration of the fight that AIDS forced our country to face in the early 1980 s. With Richard

Freedom In The 1800 s
Freedom was a confusing term during the mid 1700 s up to the mid 1800 s, since there were
different types of freedom. In the 1700 s, freedom in America meant a cry for liberty and
independence from the British, but freedom in the 1800 s meant emancipation for the slaves.
Although freedom changed for the United Statesby breaking away from British rule, freedom did
not apply to everyone. Those who enjoyed freedom were white men, and the majority of African
Americans were still slaves. Life, liberty and pursuit of happiness stated in the constitution was
hypocritical; laws and rules hindering freedom and rights for African Americans were hindered and
even reversed the road to freedom for black Americans. The introduction of cotton as a major...

He mentions past freedoms by saying that It would, certainly, prove nothing, as to what part I
might have taken had I lived during the great controversy of 1776. To say now that America was
right, and England wrong, is exceedingly easy. (Douglass 3). Here Douglass is talking about how
America was quick to judge England s actions as wrong and how America made the right decision
and took the initiative to fight for their freedom. Later in the same speech, Douglass asks, Are the
great principles of political freedom and of natural justice, embodied in that Declaration of
Independence, extended to us [blacks]? (Douglass, p. 9). Here, Douglass is talking about how the
constitution mentions liberty and freedom for all Americans but that freedom isn t extended
towards African Americans. This is a significant quote because he reminds the white audience that
Americans were able to get their freedom from the British because they felt oppressed and how the
rights should be extended to African Americans because they too are oppressed. Douglass states
that African Americans have been living in the United States for about the same time as the White
population so if the whites were able to celebrate their freedom, so should the African Americans.
The audience which Douglass is addressing is a group of abolitionists at an

Winslow Homer Research Paper
Realism began to dominate art around the 19th century and peaked toward the middle of the
century. Realism desired precise depictions of the visual without any alteration. This change
caused a dramatic change in art and artist. Winslow Homer was born in 1836 and died in 1910
and was an american realist. Homer was a self taught artist, whom lived with his family in
Cambridge. Quickly, he started off his career as a printmaker in Boston and afterwards in New
York when Homer moved there. Soon the Civil War broke loose and so it affected Homer s art.
Diligently, throughout the war Homer concentrated on painting. In 1865, Homer reaped the
rewards of his work and was elected to the National Academy of Design. In 1866 after the war,
Homer traveled to France preferring the Vibrant landscapes than his city life in New York although
his remained unchanged. In 1872 Homer created a masterpiece named Snap the Whip. It was the
belief that the children were America s embodiments of innocents and their future. The painting has

A Brief Note On Chad Cameroon Petroleum Development And...
In 2003, construction ended on a pipeline project more commonly referred to as the CCPP (Chad
Cameroon Petroleum Development and Pipeline Project). The main actors in this project besides
the World Bank consisted of a triumvirate of oil companies with Exxon Mobil at the helm, along
with Petronas Malaysia ChevronTexaco. The project was under many watchful eyes in the global
political theater as it hoped to prove as a model for other developing countries. It also sought to
break the spell of the resource curse which it is generally known, is that countries rich in natural
resources, specially oil, tend to suffer from lower living standards, slower growth rates and higher
incidence of conflict than their resource poor counterparts. (Auty, 1997)
The project entailed constructing a pipeline which would begin in the Doba basin in Chad which
was said to contain in excess of 1 billion barrels of oil and stretch southwest through to the
Cameroonian port city of Kribi. This pipeline measures an impressive 1,070 kilometers and had an
initial price tag of $3.5 billion; which was later then confirmed by Exxon Mobil to, in fact, cost
$4.2 billion.
Unsurprisingly, the main reward from these barrels of black gold would be a monetary reward
for all the parties involved. For Chad, the revenues were estimated to be $5 billion over the course
of 25 years and this didn t consider other potential oil fields. The World Bankattempted to ensure
that any revenues on the Chad side,

Witches Wear 60s Clothing
The reason that I chose the witches to wear 60s attire is because I am fond of the style and era of
the 60s. I designed the outfits that I thought would fit the theme of Macbeth and the witches. I
chose to stick to the colors of red and black because they are common colors that are used in 60s
costumes. One of theses costumes was inspired from the movie, Grease, in the last scene during the
song, You re the One that I Want. I based this costume on the outfit that Sandy , or Olivia Newton
John, is wearing.
The Polka dot dress was inspired by a dance costume that I have worn. I wanted to incorporate the
black and white theme with the fun patterns of the 60s as well as a halter top to add personality.
The last costume was inspired by

ANSWER: An estate held in tenancy by the entirety is limited to homestead property held by a husband and wife during coverture. The Illinois statute authorizing transfer of property into tenancy by the entirety states as follows: Whenever a devise, conveyance, assignment, or other transfer of property, including a beneficial interest in a land trust, maintained or intended for maintenance as a homestead by both husband and wife together during coverture shall be made and the instrument of devise, conveyance, assignment, or transfer expressly declares that the devise or conveyance is made to tenants by the entirety, or if the beneficial interest in a land trust is to be held as tenants by ... In LaSalle Bank, the appellate court affirmed a judgment against the husband in September 3, 1999. Id. at 281. The husband transferred the property from him and his wife in joint tenancy to a tenancy by the entirety on September 20, 1999. Id. The Appellate Court reasoned that the Trial Court s finding that the husband transferred the property to tenancy by the entirety solely to avoid a judgment creditor was not against the manifest weight of the evidence because 1) the husband owned less than $4,000 of assets at the time he transferred the property into tenancy by the entirety, 2) the husband didn t make the transfer around 1998 when he was advised to do so by a family attorney in order to protect the estate and make the transfer easier upon his death, since his assets were tied up in the business, 3) the husband did not own the residence individually or as a tenant in common with his wife, in which case there may have been a legitimate reason to transfer the property to tenancy by the entirety other than to avoid a judgment debt. 3) the husband made the transfer to tenancy by the entirety at a time when to not make such a transfer would have rendered him insolvent, and 4) the transfer was made within days after the Appellate ... The company in this case has been regarded by Vaughan Williams J. as the agent of Aron Salomon. I should rather liken the company to a trustee for him a trustee improperly 20 brought into existence by him to enable him to do what the statute prohibits. It is manifest 21 that the other members of the company have practically no interest in it, and their names have merely been used by Mr.Aron Salomon to enable him to form a company, and to use its name in order to screen himself from liability. This view of the case is quite consistent with In re George Newman Co.[4] In a strict legal sense the business may have to be regarded as the business of the company; but if any jury were asked, Whose business was it? they would say Aron Salomon s, and they would be right, if they meant that the beneficial interest in the business was his. I do not go so far as to say that the creditors of the company could sue him. In my opinion, they can only reach him through the company. Moreover, Mr.Aron Salomon s liability to indemnify the company in this case is, in my view, the legal consequence of the formation of the company in order to attain a result not permitted by law. The liability does not arise simply from the fact that he holds nearly all the shares in the company. A man may do that and yet be under no such liability as Mr.Aron Salomon has come under. His liability rests on the purpose for which he formed the company, on the way he formed it, and on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Desire Under The Elms By Eugene O Neill Desire Under the Elms by Eugene O Neill is a modern twist on the mythological tale of Phaedra and Hippolytus. In writing this piece, in 1924, O Neill delivers a captivating and somewhat comical version of the classic myth. Stuck in the transition from the Modernism to Postmodernism movements, O Neill struggled to define himself as either a modernist or postmodernist. The Modernismmovement is made up of a variety of different movements: philosophical, artistic, and literary. The artistic and literary Modernism movement, which occurred in the late 19th and early 20th century, is marked by the concepts of experimentation and individualism, signifying sudden breaks with traditional values of literature, philosophy, and culture. In comparison, postmodernism, which developed in the mid to late 20th century held the idea that reality is not based on societal understanding of it, but, on individual perception and interpretation. While both have similarities, the perceptions of individuality in these movements differ on a relatively large scale. In the Modernist movement, it was socially correct to adhere to what was specifically deemed acceptable. In contrast, in the postmodernist movement, one style of living was not any less acceptable than another because each person determined what is considered valuable to them individually. Though modernism and postmodernism are marked by distinctive ways of thinking and social norms, these periods actually faced quite an overlap. While ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Problem Of Chronic Kidney Disease Introduction The United States finds itself in a challenging predicament. With the population of Baby Boomers entering the fifth and sixth decades of their lives, health care will be faced with the onslaught of chronic diseases that accompany the aging process. To combat this impending health care shift, health care is being transformed from the traditional hospital setting to more community based and long term, health care treatments/solutions. One of these diseases that plague older adults and impose a burden for the health care system is chronic kidney failure. Headley (2014), explains that chronic kidney disease (CKD) involves a progressive, irreversible loss of kidney function (p. 1107). To diagnose CKD the National Kidney Foundation states a person must have kidney damage or a decreased GFR of less than 60 mL/min/1.73m2 for longer than three months (p. 1107). CKD is underdiagnosed and untreated in the United States. This is most likely contributed to the fact that the kidneys are so adaptive. A patient living with CKD may not even know it, presenting with no symptoms for years. It is only untill the kidneys are considerably damaged that a proper diagnosis is often made (Headley, 2014, p.1108). Elliott (2012) explores the prevalence of chronic kidney disease in the United States. With data from the United States Renal Data System, out of the 1.2 million participants who were above the age of 65, 12,308 were diagnosed with (CKD stages 1 5) (p.4). The prevalence of older ... • 10. Moral Dilemm Abortion In The United States Moral Dilemma: Abortion United States is divided into Democrats and Republicans, and this means that people have very different opinions about various topics. Questions like gay marriage, economic policies, and foreign policies divide people in several camps. They often have different values, preferences and beliefs, but when it comes to abortion, this is the topic that both Catholics and Democrats take extremely seriously and find it problematic (Leonhardt). The problem with abortion is that no matter what position you choose, someone s rights are violated. In cases when it comes to gay marriage, for example, by allowing these people to marry each other, no other parties are harmed, but with abortion if you decide to give rights to have an abortion to women, then unborn babies are the ones who pay the price and this price is the most extreme their life. To understand this issue we have to consider both sides: by not allowing women to have an abortion, we are taking away their right to control their bodies. Some conservatives take a less extreme stance and say that abortion can be allowed in special conditions, for example, when a woman was raped and some liberals say that abortion should be permitted in any case. The reason why it needs to change is because processed foods are addictive and can cause people to overeat, because the nutritionstandards are not being met, and because the high obesity rate is partially blamed by the fast foodindustry. One reason that the American diet needs to change is that most of the processed foods that are served to adults and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When most people see a food that they are craving they often take one helping but most take 2, 3, or even sometimes 4 helpings of that food. While some may argue that its too difficult to change when the food is processed it is more true that the food industries produce more fresh fruit than processed fruit. I observed a nine year old male student during the first three hours of his school day. Within these three hours he attended his daily classroom morning meeting, followed by two electives; physical education and keyboarding. This seemed to be the less structured part of the day and during this time he tended to act out and seek attention. Examples of this would be talking out of turn during the share time in his morning meeting, refusing to stand and say the national anthem, and continuously making different noises during the teachers lessons. Rather than being inspired by the work of Freud, Kohlberg s theory of moral development is a cognitive developmental theory was inspired by Piaget s stages of cognitive development. Kohlberg s theory is made up of three different levels; the preconventional level, the conventional level, and the postconventional or principled level. The three levels are each broken up into two separate stages. For the purpose of this observation, we will be mainly focusing on the preconventional level and the conventional level of moral development. Kohlberg intended the preconventional level to be focused toward infants and preschool children, however the students behavior more closely related to this level than that of the conventional level which is aimed toward his age range. The preconventional level is where children learn that their actions have consequences. The first stage of this level is the punishment and obedience orientation stage, children in this stage are focusing on the consequences of their actions rather than the logical thing to do. The following stage is the instrumental purpose orientation stage, within this stage children tend to believe that if they do someone a favor, that person should do a favor in return (Berk Meyers, ... Dantes Inferno Essay Dante s use of allegory in the Inferno greatly varies from Plato s quot;Allegory of the Cave quot; in purpose, symbolism, characters and mentors, and in attitude toward the world. An analysis of each of these elements in both allegories will provide an interesting comparison. Dante uses allegory to relate the sinner s punishment to his sin, while Plato uses allegory to discuss ignorance and knowledge. Dante s Infernodescribes the descent through Hell from the upper level of the opportunists to the most evil, the treacherous, on the lowest level. His allegorical poem describes a hierarchy of evil. Conversely, Plato s quot;Allegory of the Cave quot; describes the ascent from ignorance to knowledge, as one prisoner is freed to make his ... In death they are doomed to exist with their heads on backwards and their eyes overflowing with tears so that not only could they not see what was happening in front of them, but they could not see at all due to these copious amounts of tears. Similarly, each sin had its own logical punishment, and each group of sinners received the same punishment, with only a few exceptions. Such an exception can be found in Canto XXlll when Caiaphas lies crucified on the floor while the other hypocrites walk around him in circles. He is set apart because he counseled a Roman to crucify Jesus. While the sinners represent man s imperfections, Virgil symbolizes human reason. Throughout the poem, Virgil uses logic and reason to convince the monsters to allow him to gain passage to the various circles of Hell. The use of characters and mentors is distinct in each piece. quot; The Allegory of the Cave quot; presents few characters, and except for the one prisoner who ascends from the cave, none are distinguished from the others. The one freed prisoner attempts to become a mentor to the others but fails. As he tries to enlighten the remaining prisoners he is received with anger and threats. Nothing is learned about the characters as individuals. They remain nameless, faceless images. In contrast, there are numerous characters in the Inferno. The sinners are arranged in ... In 2008, the Australian Government promised to deliver a fair and equitable curriculum for the national s educational system, taking the task away from the State and Local Governments. VARIOUS DEFINITIONS OF CURRICULUM. The origins of the word curriculum date back to ancient times and in fact the work comes from the Latin word of currere: a course or race or to run (Smith, 1996,2000). Over many decades, people have argued over the various definitions. Tanner (1980) defined it as the planned and guided learning experiences and intended outcomes , whilst Pratt (1980) defined it as a written document describing goals planned, objectives, content and evaluation. So s it a course of study? Or can it be defined as content or a product( Marsh, 2008). Marsh (2008) goes on to include that at a variety of learning sites are a set of objectives for student learning. We can also relate this to Tyler s objective curriculum model being that the first step to curriculum is always to set the objective. The Model of Taba from 1962, is the same model at Tyler s but includes interaction and flow between all four stages, so we do not always need the objective before we start writing the content to the curriculum. ... The Demand And Supply Model Part A: The demand and supply model is the representation of the demand in comparison with the effects on the price of the product or the service, the demand and supply model is the backbone of economic analysis and involves the measure of price elasticity and the shifts / demands these events cause to the demand and supply and the effects on substitutes and compliments of the good or service as well as finding price and supply equilibrium. The particular article explores the excess demand of chocolate and the possible increase of prices in order to try decrease demand. After applying the demand and supply model to the article it suggests that there is only a slight decrease in demand due to price increase and suggests that this would have an impact on compliments whilst having a small positive impact on substitutes. This analysis is important as the effects of prices on chocolate will possibly have a major impact on the economy. The article is about the excess demand of chocolate and the demand outstripping the supply and producing less than the world eats, the decrease in supply is said to be caused by factors including dry weather and a fungal disease in Ghana where almost 70% of the cocoa is produced. In further economic analysis the law of demand states that the demand of a good and service are inversely related. When the price of a product increases, the demand for the product will fall. Poverty is an issue that must be addressed to the population loud and clear or everyone will end up suffering. There are many families trying to survive and live from paycheck to paycheck. Unfortunately, there are some families that are unable to support himself or herself or any family member. One important key issue of povertyin the United States is inequality. Many Americans blame the poor people for their own fate but you should never judge a book by its cover. There can be many reasons why an individual or families end up in poverty. For example, low wage jobs, discrimination and social inequality, vulnerability to natural disasters, war and political instability. Another big issue we face today is child poverty. Du Bois conducted the initial research on the black experience in the United States, and paved the way for the Pan African and Black Power movements. The results were published in the Philadelphia Negro (1899). This was the first sociological text on a black community published in the United States. In 1897 Du Bois moved to Atlanta University, where he taught economics and history for more than a decade. His most widely acclaimed work, The Souls of Black Folk (1903) was published during his time in Atlanta. With The Souls of Black Folk, Du Bois had begun to challenge the leadership of Booker T. Washington, a fellow educator who was then the most influential and admired black in the United States. Washington, who had faith in the future of his race in the country, believed that hard work, patience, and self pride would build their character and eventually earn them their civil rights. This is evident in Washington s The Future of the American Negro. • 31. Cause And Effect Of My Depression In college, I started off pretty much like everyone else. At first, I felt confident and ready. I felt Confident that I was going to succeed in all of my assignments, wake up with determination, and not make bad choices. I felt ready for the long hours of writing papers, finishing homework, and studying for exams. After the first semester, I realized that things are easier being said than done. Before long, assignments were piling up, due dates were near, and my stress levels were out the roof. The cause that led to my downfall in collegewas none other than depression. My depression has affected my academic life by causing me to procrastinate, which led to my lack of motivation, resulting in my poor performance in college. This Depression is hindering my daily routine, both at home and in school. It is an emotional illness, which occurs internally, but it can also effect a person s physical activity. For instance, I am no longer energetic as I used to be. I stay in bed for long periods of time during the afternoon. I wake up early to go to school, then I come home and take a nap on the couch; which is basically my daily routine. Instead of going outside and exercising like I used to do, I spend the majority of the day watching television. It is not because I do not have time to go outside and exercise, it is because I do not possess the inner strength that would lift me up from the couch and onto my feet. I don t even go out like I used to anymore! One of the reasons why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Impact of OPEC s Oil Pricing on the Petroleum Market Energy resources are essential for national security, technological development, overall contemporary life style, etc. In this respect, oil is the main source for worldwide economy. Peak oil would imbalance countries economical situations and may lead to a chain reaction with negative effects on multiple layers. Evidently, there is mutual interest to prevent such a thing from happening but the possibility is nevertheless considered. OPECs initial goal to ensure stable prices on petroleummarkets in order to avoid any negative fluctuations did not always correspond. The organization actually favored inflation more than in one occasion but its influence in controlling oil prices dropped considerably since 1973. It was proven that, having quadrupled the price of oil, OPEC had in its hands the power to inflict economic hurt on the rich countries. (Beenstock 2007, p. 134) Although OPEC does not completely control the oil market today, it nevertheless continues to be influent because its decisions to reduce production may lead to either a decrease or increase of oil prices. OPEC s existence is dependent on the future of oil. Whether or not oil will dominate as the main energetic source for worldwide economy will decide its future. Considering that OPEC s oil has been a vital source of energy during the last half of century, (Khusanjanova 2011, p. 19) and that oil is expected to play a similar role within the next century, we can assume the organization will at least maintain its ... In my life I have a father figure who encourages me, I have a hopeful heartbeat, and I am inexperienced youth. In the story, the peaches resemble inexperienced youth, a drum resembles a hopeful heartbeat, and the general resembles a father figure telling Joby to overcome his fear. One of the most important elements of symbolism in the story is having a father figure to encourage you.Joby, a boy of 14, ran away from home and decided to join the army in April 1862.Then the general, Joby s father figure, encouraged him to overcome his fear of never seeing his familyagain or the possibility of death. He did this, by telling Joby to keep a steady beat for the army when they were fighting. My life can relate to Joby s because four years I got a father figure. In my life, my father figure isn t encouraging me to fight in the war and overcome my fear of loosing my family, but he does encourage me to try new stuff. The political parties still move to block the opposing party from successfully implanting their ideals, causing either nothing to be accomplished or the situation to worsen. B Solving the problems in our current minimum wagesystem presents a challenge because little agreement exists regarding the wage gap between the rich and the poor, allowing the minimum wageto fulfill its original purpose of protecting workers and keeping the economy in a healthy state, and .how increasing the minimum wage would allow for more advantages economically with a minute influence on employment rates. The increasing gap between the upper and lower classes has been a concern for years, but now receives more attention because it serves as a prime argument for whether or not to raise the minimum wage. For example, in Nick Hanauer s speech, Beware, Fellow Plutocrats, The Pitchforks are Coming, he maintains that based on the current trend of how the gap is consistently accumulating, the increasing gap could have serious implications, similar to those of pre Revolutionary France. That was France before the Revolution and the mobs with the pitchforks, explains Hanauer (00:03:50 00:04:00). On January 16th, 1969, a student named Jan Palach set himself on fire in Prague to protest the censorship of free speech (Stoneman). In the weeks following his death, about half a million people lost their jobs and the Communist party purged half a million members while others resigned (BBC). • 43. Candide Character Analysis Discuss the female characters in Candide. Are they victims, or natural survivors? Do they deserve more pity or more admiration? Take one side only. In Voltaire s Candide, there is a young fellow that falls in love with a lady. She is kidnapped and the protagonist, Candide, embarks on a journey to find his love. I believe that he doesn t really love this young lady, Cunegonde, he is in love with her looks (or is in lust, if you will). We discover that he really doesn t love her at the end of the novel, but they still marry. The other female characters have similar backstories and are also seen as a body of desire. The only one that is not seen this way is an old woman. Regardless of age, all of the women have issues or tragic lives. I pity these people that have to live in a position that is seen as inferior to the majority of men. While I pity them, I also see how strong they are, and what they have endured in their lifespan. A character that is deserving of pity is Cunegonde. Cunegonde came from a line of high ranking people who are killed later in the novel. She was also kidnapped and raped by Bulgarians. She had to have sex with two men that were sharing her. When Candide finds her for the first time, the only thing that he cares about is how beautiful she is. He sees her and immediately believes that he is in love with her. Later on, in the novel, Candide finds her once again. This time though, she is old and hasn t aged well. Candide marries her and makes it known to the reader that it wasn t out of love, it was out of pity. I believe that this character is deserving of more pity, because no one deserves to go through the things that she has. No one took the time to get to know her. Candide didn t really care that much about her when he saw that she wasn t beautiful anymore. Pacquette is a character that deserves pity because her life was great until she started having sex with Pangloss and gave him syphilis. As a result, she ran out of money and became broke and she had no other option but to resort to prostitution. The main actors in this project besides the World Bank consisted of a triumvirate of oil companies with Exxon Mobil at the helm, along with Petronas Malaysia ChevronTexaco. The project was under many watchful eyes in the global political theater as it hoped to prove as a model for other developing countries. It also sought to break the spell of the resource curse which it is generally known, is that countries rich in natural resources, specially oil, tend to suffer from lower living standards, slower growth rates and higher incidence of conflict than their resource poor counterparts. (Auty, 1997) The project entailed constructing a pipeline which would begin in the Doba basin in Chad which was said to contain in excess of 1 billion barrels of oil and stretch southwest through to the Cameroonian port city of Kribi.
