Epidemiology Is The Branch Of Medicine
Epidemiology
Epidemiology is the branch of medicine that deals with the incidence, distribution, and possible
control of diseases and other factors relating to health (Schneider, 8). In 1847, a Viennese
obstetrician by the name of Ignac Semmelweis discovered the importance of handwashing in a
hospital setting (Gawande, 15). Before the discovery of antibiotics, childbed fever was the number
one cause of maternal death in childbirth. Semmelweis realized by not washing their hands, doctors
were the ones responsible for carrying the bacteria that caused the fever from mother to mother.
After implementing strict hand washing rules the death rate of mothers decreased from 20% to 1%
almost overnight (Gawande, 15). Discoveries like the one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Scientists have yet to discover what exactly causes BSE but the leading theory is that it is caused
by prions infectious agents made entirely out of protein that are usually found in the brain and
spinal cord and can only currently be treated if caught before symptoms arise. Humans that eat
infected meat may be infected with Creutzfeldt Jakob disease which causes brain lesions that
ultimately kill the infected.
Another important function of epidemiology is the control of disease. Epidemiologists are tasked
with researching and creating vaccines. A vaccine is a substance used to kickstart the
production of antibodies and help build a resistance to one or several diseases, created from a
part of the existing disease or a man made substance. To create the vaccines scientists have to do
thousands of hours of research and testing. There are many different types of vaccines; some
deactivate the disease, some weaken it, and some even use a piece of the bacteria or virus to
counteract its ill effects. If a vaccine cannot be found epidemiologists can use the factors that
facilitate the transmission of the disease also known as determinants of the disease ,such as where
it is spreading and the medium it uses to travel , to keep it from spreading. An example of a
disease without a vaccine but with clear determinants is HIV.
Epidemiologist do not only work with diseases that are infectious they also work with chronic

Vincent Van Gogh Research Papers
Vincent Van Gogh was a post impressionist painter, born in the Netherlands on March 30, 1853.
He died on July 29, 1890, in France at the age of 37. Sadly, Vincent was poor and virtually
unknown his entire life. Currently his work is known for its beauty, emotion, and color, and
although he tried many times never sold a single painting. Van Gogh struggled with mental
illness, despite this, his work highly influenced 20th century art and still wildly popular today.
Van Gogh s passion for art likely began as a child. His mother, Anna Cornelio Carbentus, was an
emotional artist, with a love of nature, drawing and watercolors. As a child Van Gogh was a
mildly sad child. At ag 15, his family was having financially issues, and was forced to leave
school to work. He got a job working for his Uncle Cornelis, at and art dealership, Goupil Cie.
Van Gogh, by this point, was already fluent in French, German, and English, and of course
Dutch. In June of 1873, Van Gogh was transferred to the Groupil Gallery in London. When he
did, he fell in love with the English culture. He enjoyed reading Charles Dickens and George
Eliot, and visited art galleries whenever he could. He as well fell in love with his landlady s
daughter, Eugenie Loyer, who he proposed to. When she turned him down he completely broke

Even though he was raised by a religious family, this is when he really started to consider
devoting his life to the church. Wishing to become a minister. He tried several other times to
start a career, but either refused to take the final exams, or was disliked by the committee. It wasn
t until the fall of 1880 that Van Gogh decided to become and artist. He moved to Brussels to
pursue his goal. Vincent s younger brother Theo, an art dealer, wanted to support him financially.
He began studying books like Travaux des chanps, and Course de

Pi s Lifeboat
In the novel, The Life of Pi, by Yann Martel, the lifeboat is a transformative image that alters and
somewhat controls which path Pi goes down. Throughout the novel, the meaning of the lifeboat
transforms. At first, the lifeboat acts as a zoo/ prison. It is the vessel from which Pi cannot
escape, the object that he cannot run from. He has no freedom on this boat, and if he leaves,
certain death is inevitable. However, as the storyline progresses, the boat becomes more of a
saving grace. In the end, when Pi arrives on land, it is the boat that carried him for 227 days and
the only reason he lived to tell the tale. Without the lifeboat, he would have died on the Tsimtsum
with the rest of his family on the day of the shipwreck. The symbolic meaning... Show more content

While on the raft, he says that, I started thinking seriously about how I was going to deal with
Richard Parker... I needed safe access to the locker and the top of the tarpaulin, no matter the time
of day or the weather, no matter his mood. It was rights I needed, the sort of rights that come with
might. It was time to impose myself and carve out my territory. (202)
His need for the supplies on the lifeboat are what cause him to decide to try and train Richard
Parker. Without his need for the lifeboat, he never would have chose to do something so
dangerous and with such low odds of succeeding. Later on while training the tiger, Pi says my
behavior was not an act of insanity or a covert suicide attempt, but a simple necessity. Either I
tamed him, made him see who was Number One and who was Number Two or I died the day I
wanted to climb aboard the lifeboat during rough weather and he objected (206). He reinforces
the idea that to train Richard Parker is a necessity and that his need for the boat overwhelms his
fear or the tiger. Later on in the same instance during Pi s training of the tiger, he tells of how the
wild animal would make a point by knocking him off of the boat with one swipe of it s paw. He
describes his retaliation by saying, Then I made my point, feet on the gunnel, boat rolling, my
single note language blasting from the whistle, and Richard Parker moaning and gasping

Grotesque In The Carnival Classroom
The grotesque can also symbolize social issues that affect students lives and schoolwork poverty,
socioeconomic power relations and class differences, abuse, substance abuse, depression, identity,
and sexuality. Students are dealing with many of these things but they are not often allowed a place
within the classroom. Standard classrooms strive to operate in separate spheres from students lives
and social issues they are facing, but the carnivalclassroom would address those issues, much like
the Feast of Fools did. It is important for teachers to allow space for these issues in order to inspire
disadvantaged students to merge the learning platform with the platforms they are already on.
Giving students full range of freedom of voice in their writing assignments allowing cursing, sex,
violence, etc. can not only give an avenue to include the all consuming issues they are faced with,
but also inspire them to actually do writing assignments, thereby completing learning goals. In an
article entitled, The Implications of Carnival Theory For Interpreting Drama Pedagogy, the use of
freedom in creative writing was used to train student s narrative skills, and the... Show more content

platform which Bakhtin theorized would engage a larger cultural conversations about
interpretations and possible meanings This can even open a discussion among students to analyze
how socially they are being told to choose another tale . Open discussion about social issues and
identities as a part of the carnival can expose students to new social languages and meaning making

Fruit and Robots: Two Operating Systems in the Mobile Market
Apple s iOS and Google s Android operating systems (OS) are both used in similar devices, tablets
and phones. However, the look and feel of both is very different. Smartphones and tablet computers
have become increasingly popular; two operating systems have come to the forefront, iOS, and
Android. Both contain similarities but the way in which they are used, and the devices they are
used on are similar but once the OS s are put on become vastly different. Many other operating
systems have tried, and ultimately failed, to gather market share like both iOS ... Show more content

This can cause problems for the company because it can fragment their market share as well as
confuse the public. Not all devices run all OS versions, not all devices look the same because of the
skinning that comes from some hardware manufacturers.
One major difference between the two operating systems is the fact that Android is part of the
Android Open Source Project (AOSP) which allows developers access to the Software
Development Kit (SDK) to develop applications for Android devices, which is the most
important part of the new Smartphone market. Apple, as with most things they release have a
closed system, you have to pay to become a developer and develop with tools they proved. This
puts a burden on the developers right away because Android is extensively free, while iOS has an
initial cost to even get started, and that s if you already have an Intel based Mac.
Application development itself is different in the respect that they use different programming
languages to create the applications (apps). Android applications are usually developed using the
Java language but with tools that are available can be created using C, or C++. Apple iOS
applications are created using their own custom software and Objective C language. The approval
process one applications are developed are also much different. With an Android App is developed

Death Over Life in Flaubert s Madame Bovary Essay
Death Over Life in Flaubert s Madame Bovary
Often in literature, a character is found that is quite memorable. Never was this more true than
in Flaubert s Madame Bovary. To some, Emma Bovary s action at the end of the novel was
drastic and unnecessary; others believed her death to be the end of the natural progression of the
story. However, Emma s decision to commit suicide was relatively simple, yet came as a last
resort. She had exhausted all the other options she felt were available, and in the end made her plan
based on finances, lost love, and the sheer boredom of her life.
One motivation for Emma s suicide was her financial problems. She spent extravagant amounts of
her husband, Charles , money on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
[Later] Rodolphe is shown to be a coarse provincial Don Juan, attracted only by Emma s physical
charms (Roe 40). When Emma learned she was just one in a long line of conquests, she was
devastated, emotionally and physically. Her later affair with Leon filled a void in her life, but as
she herself noted, it was not enough. No matter! She was not happy she never had been...nothing
was worth the trouble of seeking it...the sweetest kisses left...only the unattainable desire for a
greater delight (Flaubert 200). As one critic noted, ...the shattering of her Romantic ideals...[caused
her to carry] to the second amour fewer illusions...that Leon had grown tired [still] filled her with
bitterness... (Green 233). The affair with Leon involved many trips to Rouen, and it is interesting to
note that ...the outings to Rouen lose their charm as her love for Leon turns to disgust (Turnell
106). Her affair with Leon ended when it became stagnant, although she was in no less pain than
before.
Of all Emma s reasons to wish for death, disappointment in life and marriage was probably the
strongest contributor. She had expected her life to be like a romance novel, where everyone was
happy and rich; she grew frustrated and angry when her life was ordinary. Emma wanted Charles to
be her Prince Charming, not a toad. Although Charles doted on Emma, almost to the point of
smothering her, she wanted more. She

The Madoff Case Hickery
Investing in the market or different ventures are an opportunity for many American citizens to
acquire wealth, separate from the income earned from a salaried job. Regardless of whether an
individual has $10,000 or $1 million, there are opportunities to invest in a range of sources where
returns on investments can be either in the long term or short term. There is opportunity to invest
in traditional sources like Gold or recent popular stocks such as Facebook, Instagram, and
Snapchat. In those cases the returns were ten fold and the original investors believe in the success
of the product in the long term. Individuals who chose not to invest but to sell products to make a

The most obvious problem with detecting is no one in a part of the scheme is willing to do due
diligence and internal reporting. The values of a company are an important indicator of the
practices which benefits all participants as a whole(shareholders, employees, public). Companies
that promote Corporate Social Responsibility believe that disclosure and transparency are just as
important as profits. Firms that stake a claim in CSR view their responsibilities as extending to
a wide variety of disclosures and social reporting (e.g., the triple bottom line social,
environmental, and financial; Council on Economic Priorities[...] (Laufer, 2010). The willingness
of a company in disclosing financial information and reporting, helps shareholders as well as
regulators determine whether or not there is illegal activity within the company. There can be a
growing trust of financial institutions from shareholders, regulators and the public if more
companies practice corporate social responsibility on a consistent basis. For example, if Bernie
Madoff had to disclose all of his reports to investors and regulators, then there would have been a
chance that he would have not succeeded in duping for as long as he did. As recent as 2014,
companies defined as either pyramid schemes or multi level marketing programs have been

METAPHATH SOFTWARE CORP.
BRIEFING NOTE
FINANCING RECOMMENDATION
SEPTEMBER 1997
1. PURPOSE
The purpose of this briefing note is to provide recommendations for Metapath Software Corp. (
Metapath ) on its financing offers received in September 1997.
These two offers came from 1) a fund consortium led by Robertson Stephens Omega Fund ( RSC
) and Technology Crossover Ventures ( TCV ) and 2) CellTech Communications ( CellTech ), a
vendor of wireless technology which had recently gone IPO.
2. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Metapath has made good progress in developing its business since its inception generating $6.4m

4. ANALYSIS
Comparing the term sheet of the offer from RSC and TCV consortium to that of CellTech, RSC
and TCV s PCPT had a much more dilutive impact to Metapath upon exit.
Under liquidation, the term sheet stipulates that the Series E investors is entitled to claim its initial
investment of $10.75 million plus any accrued but unpaid dividend. Any proceeds after this claim
will then be distributed to all common and Series E Preferred shareholders on an as converted pro
rata basis. This double dipping means that RSC will not only recover its initial investment of $5
millions, but also enjoys the convertible benefits.
As a result, if the sale occurs before 2000, the profitability for A D tranches will be negatively
impacted by the preferred characteristic in the Series E. However if the sale occurs after 2000, A
and B tranches will be gradually redeemed on an annual basis, which will leave C and D tranches
to be mostly impacted adversely by the preferred characteristic in the Series E stock.
Under the circumstance of an IPO, tranches C, D and E will convert to common at their negotiated
prices while A B will be redeemed.
However, on the flip side, the price offered by RSC and TCV consortium was $6, which was
significantly higher than the first three rounds of financing (tranches A,B and C) at

Analyzing Judy Garland s Song Over The Rainbow
When the song Over the Rainbow is heard, many people can recognize the familiar tune and
lyrics of this nostalgic song. The original singer of this song was Judy Garland. Over the
Rainbow speaks a message that can speak to any person, which has led to numerous artists
covering this song on many different occasions. Two other singers that have covered this song
are Jerry Lee Lewis and Israel Kamakawiwo ole. Each artist brought their own personal emotions
into their performance of Over the Rainbow leading to different interpretations of this beautiful
song. Over the Rainbow was first performed by Judy Garland during the role of Dorothy in the
1939 movie The Wizard of Oz. The song was composed by Harold Arlen specifically for the movie

Israel Kamakawiwo ole had the ability to connect to listeners. While Judy Garland s original
rendition of Over the Rainbow is a beloved classic, Israel Kamakawiwo ole demonstrates the
possibility that a cover of a song can affect listeners in powerful ways similar to the original.
Over the Rainbow has had a powerful influence on listeners for generations. Judy Garland s
version will remain a classic for years to come. Jerry Lee Lewis and Israel Kamakawiwo ole
both brought their own influences to the original song that listeners could appreciate. However,
Israel Kamakawiwo ole proved that a cover of an original song can still touch the hearts of
listeners just as well as the original. Music is an amazing art form that has the ability to connect the
artist and the listener in profound ways. Different artists can bring different viewpoints and
personal influences on a song that impact the listeners in various ways. Over the Rainbow is just

RAMSI is a regional assistance mission co ordinated by Australia and supported by 15 other
nations in the Pacific Islands that has had positive effects on safety in the Solomon Islands,
specifically Honiara. As well as having positive effects on safety, RAMSI also assisted in saving
the Solomon Islands from economic collapse. This mission has had effects on both young people
from the Solomon Islands and from the nations supporting the Solomon Islands, specifically
Australians. This report will go on to identify these effects on young people and services that

RAMSI has not only effected government agencies and politicians it has also affected young
Australians who are coming over with their parents and young Solomon Islanders who are seeing a
foreign culture in their country.
Effects of RAMSI on young people in Honiara
Many young people from Australia who have moved to Honiara because of RAMSI end up going to
Woodford international school. For many Solomon Islanders Woodford is unaffordable however it
is cheaper for Solomon Island citizens at $50,700.00 compared to $68,440.00 per year. This does
not deter international students from going to Woodford as the principle Anthony Baron, stated that
they had close to 50% Solomon Island students and 50% of the students from other parts of the
world. This creates a multicultural environment for all young people at the school and improves
cultural awareness in the region. Tomalin and Stempleski (2013) agree with this and suggest that
this is important because it helps students understand everyone has different cultural behaviours,
words may have different connotations to someone from another culture and creates curiosity about
other cultures as well as encouraging empathy. By learning at an overseas international school and
coming back to Australia young people develop broad cultural awareness which they can teach
their peers. This learning happens in social situations through the passing on of knowledge (Volet
Ang 2012). The YACVic Code of Ethics (2007)

Technological Experience in Electronics
I have experienced and learned many things about electronics since I was 12. My father taught
me many things about electronic devices. When I was young, before the age of 12, I enjoyed
observing my father as he worked on damaged electronic devices. As I got older, my curiosity
became immense and I started to ask many questions. At first, I got to unscrew the object with
screwdrivers. In the article How to Use a Screwdriver by an eHow contributor instructed that
rotating the screwdriver clockwise would insert the screw. If you rotate the screwdriver counter
clockwise it would remove the screw. I still remember how to insert and remove a screw with a
screwdriver until this day. Then my father would eventually explain the components of the devices
and how to distinguish similar or relatively alike components. Some simple examples are
capacitors, which are shaped differently according to their functionality. The Basic Electronics
Tutorials explained the Capacitor, sometimes referred to as a Condenser, is a simple passive
device that is used to store electricity . There are many types of capacitors on a circuit board
which can be distinguished by sizes or its relative area that s on the board. There are electrolytic,

Moroccoy Incident
First Incident
The first event in the decades long feud was the 1865 murder of Randolph s brother, Asa Harmon
McCoy, by the Logan Wildcats, a local militia group that counted Devil Anse and other Hatfields
among its members. Many people even members of his own family regarded Asa Harmon, who had
served in the Union Army during the American Civil War, as a traitor. The McCoys, living on the
Kentucky side of the river, fought for the Union Army while the Hatfields fought for the
Confederacy. During the war, Asa Harmon McCoy broke his leg and was sent home. When he
returned, a group named The Logan Wildcats, led by Jim Vance, tracked him down to a cave and
killed him. This was the very first in a long line of murders in the feud. The group came after Asa

They had disagreements from Asa joining the Union Army when they fought on the confederate
side. In the end there were no witnesses to the murder of Asa Harmon McCoy, but it was suspected
that Hatfield had something to do with it. While some have surmised that his murder set the stage
for the feud, most historians now see this incident as a standalone event. This incident was not the
start of the feud per say but it was an instigator to the predicaments between the two families.
Relations between the two families continued to worsen over the next decade before flaring
again over what seemed to be a small matter: a dispute over a single hog. In 1878 Randolph
McCoy accused Floyd Hatfield, a cousin of Devil Anse, of stealing one of his pigs, which at this
time was a valuable commodity in the poor region. Floyd Hatfield was taken to trial and it took
place in McCoy territory, but was led over by a cousin of Devil Anse. It was dependent on the
testimony of their star witness Bill Staton, a McCoy relative married to a Hatfield. Staton testified
in Floyd Hatfield s favor, and the McCoys were infuriated when Floyd was

two problems that it must address in order to accomplish its goals.
First, HubSpot has a corporate culture centered on an evangelical attitude towards inbound

While not going so far as to begin cold calling for new clients, HubSpot could develop a targeted

them about service subscription. If done properly, HubSpot could use an outbound marketing
strategy for its inbound and outbound services while still staying true to its roots.
Alternatives for pricing
The pricing structure has the potential to evolve in a number of different ways. HubSpot could go
begin selling subscriptions for longer intervals beyond month to month to lock in customers for
longer periods of times. This could be particularly beneficial for keeping the Owner Ollies from
canceling services immediately after receiving the majority of the added value.
HubSpot could also begin charging B2B and B2C customers differently as well. B2B customers
derive greater value and could be charged an added premium or conversely B2C customers could
be given an added discount of services if combined with a longer subscription purchase.
Hubspot could also increase its initial fee of $500 for Owner Ollies who reap the majority of the
benefits upfront and who don t require as much customer service. A discount to this increase could
be coupled with participation with the CMS service, thus increasing the chance the customer stays

Humanism In The Great Gatsby
Literature is rolling hills and fields of daisies. It is black smoke billowing from narrow streets. It
is twinkling lights and rivers of gold and the dark secrets hiding behind them. Literature
encompasses both the hopes and dreams of humanity. It is the purest form of human existence
and those who pursue it are the messengers of times past to our future selves. The quote by Amy
Lowell, All books are either dreams or swords, / You can cut, or you can drug, with words (
Sword Blades and Poppy Seed ), exemplifies the idea that literature has a profound effect on
human emotions by reflecting all aspects of the human experience. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott
Fitzgerald encompasses both the dreams and swords of humanity. The sparkling society of West
Egg in which Nick Carraway enters is full of the roaring parties of the 1920s. Jay Gatsby is

Nuclear Power Is The Best Efficient Power Production Method
Introduction:
Over the years there has been controversy over whether nuclear power is the most efficient power
production method in the world for the future. As global warming is increasing, the amount of
carbon dioxide emitted into the air is also increasing, and a global concern is arising about
whether the current power production methods using fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas are long
term, as these power production methods are seen as temporary because these recourses are
becoming abundant. The most widely thought concern of the population is how long the systems
we are currently are going to last before the fuel for power runs out. There have been successful
attempts to use ecological systems such as hydropower, wind energy,... Show more content on

Similarly, there are ethnic concerns about the production of atomic bombs, as these are a form of
fission but are an uncontrolled chain reaction unlike the controlled chain reaction of fission that
provides energy in nuclear reactors.
Nuclear energy allows one to produce energy without increasing the atmospheric carbon dioxide or
other greenhouse gases and does not stimulate global warming. There are two ways that this can be
achieved, either through nuclear fission or through nuclear fusion. Fission is known as the splitting
of large nuclei such as Uranium 235, resulting in a loss of mass and hence a release in energy in
the form of heat. This energy is used to produce steam, making a turbine spin, and then providing
the power for electricity to be produced. It is currently one of the strongest substitutes for power
production methods using fossil fuels as nuclear fuels could potentially last for about 2000 years.
Nuclear fusion, or the fusing together of light nuclei to form larger ones can create another form of
nuclear energy. Essentially, it is the exact reaction that occurs in the sun, as the sun s heat is created
by the bombardment of hydrogen atoms creating helium and a neutron during which energy is

Colonial Women In Colonial America
Colonial women in America suffered considerable oppression by society. Life in colonial America
was difficult. Women had to be resilient, brave, hardworking and above all else, subservient to her

captured by Native Indians, chose to stay within Native societies. Or when returned to their homes,

Society believed women inferior to men. They were considered property of their fathers until

The Benefits Of An Early Asperger s Diagnosis
Unshackled: The Benefits of an Early Asperger s Diagnosis We all have labels. Hundreds of
them, maybe thousands. We are labeled from the day we are born until the day we die. White,
black, smart, dumb, successful, worthless, popular, weird, attractive, ugly, Jewish, Muslim,
Aspergian. These are just a few of the millions and millions of labels we affix to each other
every day. Some labels are subjective. One man s lunatic could be another man s visionary.
However, there are many labels that are permanent and inescapable. A white newborn will be
white for their entire life. They cannot do anything to change their race. They will carry a white
label to the grave. An Aspergian newborn will be Aspergian for their entire life. They cannot do
anything to change their neurological makeup. They will carry an Aspergian label to the grave.
It really is not up to us whether or not we will have a specific label. However, what we can
choose is whether we will wear our labels with pride or wear our labels with shame. There are
those of us who choose to pretend our inherent labels don t exist. Living in denial is not living at
all. The sooner one accepts the labels they can t change, the better. If an individual has Asperger
s, pretending it s not there won t make it go away. An early Asperger s diagnosis is crucial, for it
can lead to treatment and acceptance. So is there a cure? I asked. It s not a disease , he explained.
It doesn t need curing. It s just how you

Air Canada s Rewards Program
Air Canada says it is will launch its own rewards program in 2020 and cut ties with Aeroplan air
miles in a move that sent the airline s shares to a 10 year high.
The share price of Aeroplan owner Aimia Inc., meanwhile, plummeted by more than 50 per cent on
Thursday.
Aeroplan air miles will not be transferable to its new program, but Air Canada it will accept
Aeroplan points after June, 2020, with pricing competitive with other third party rewards programs.
Air Canada said operating its own program will boost its financial performance while allowing it to
offer customers better value.
Air Canada launched Aeroplan in 1984, spun it off in 2002 and in 2008 severed financial ties with
the company.
Aimia said on Wednesday recent talks with Air Canada indicated the carrier would not renew the
agreement in 2020.

Analysts said Air Canada s move has significant implications for Canadian Imperial Bank of
Commerce and Toronto Dominion Bank, which offer co branded Aeroplan credit cards.
A big question most investors will have is if this announcement implies gradual erosion of a
significant cards portfolio for each bank over the next three years, said Gabriel Dechaine, a stock
analyst with National Bank Financial, predicting Air Canada s move will touch off a new round of
competition among the banks for credit card customers.
With Air Canada launching its own loyalty program, CIBC and TD Aeroplan customers appear
poachable by other banks, Mr. Dechaine said.
In a statement, TD said its Aeroplan credit card program will operate as usual, and it does not
expect a material change to its profit when the partnership expires in 2020.
But he said questions remain over transition costs and how Air Canada arrived at the 15 year, $2

Default Judgements Analysis
Respecting both human and cultural differences in a society is vital as a society can only
wholly prosper when respect is mutual among all parties. In order for respect to be mutual
among everyone, default judgements need to be fully brought to an end. It is important for the
issue of default judgements to be resolved as they negatively impact societies as a whole,
whether that be a group of people or even an individual person. As previously stated, default
judgements create just one singular story for an entire group of people. A person is more than just
what appears at face value as there is always more to one than a single label. As Adichie discussed
in her previously mentioned speech, a professor in the United States of America suggested... Show

The work of the likes of Anthony Bourdain and Iris Zaki have helped in overcoming the danger
of a single story in that they show true images of people in countries such as Iran, thus allowing
people to better understand them. If people develop a better understanding of Iranians, then
there is a great opportunity that any default judgements about them may be vanquished. In
Bourdain s work, the Iranian people are shown as overall friendly people, that enjoy conversing,
listening to pop music, as well as eating dishes such as chelow kebabs. It is also discussed in his
work how Middle Eastern countries, such as Iran, are all grouped into one by foreigners in that
they are all oppressive to women. It is stated in Bourdain s work that not all countries in the
Middle East are oppressive to women in the vein of how Saudi Arabia is. It is stated that unlike
in Saudi Arabia, women are able to partake in activities such as driving and voting in Iran.
Through watching Bourdain s work, one may be able to see Iranian people for who they truly are
rather than what they are portrayed as in one s own default judgement. As for Zaki s work, both
Arab and Jewish women eat and converse at a hair salon named Fifi s . Although both the Arab and
Jewish women come from very different cultures, they develop an understanding and respect for
one another through their time at the salon. They accept each other for who they are as they have a
clear understanding of one another through the conversations that they have had. Through these
understandings of one another, the danger of a single story can be

One of the scenes this observed liked from Metropolis is the Maria s dance. This clip includes

of the strangest things I ve ever seen in a movie. At the time, the observer watched this and

John Kennedy Toole s The Confederacy Of Dunces
In The Confederacy of Dunces, John Kennedy Toole conveys several dysfunctional relationships
including Ignatius and his mother. Ignatius lives with his mother even though he is thirty years old
and has a Master s degree. Mrs. Reilly s strange obsessive relationship with Ignatius and her failure
to parent him leaves Ignatius without a sense of reality or any independence. The relationship
continues to dwindle through the novel as the dysfunction culminates in Mrs. Reilly wanting to
commit Ignatius to a mental institution. She believes the mental institution will protect him over
prison along with giving her freedom to live her life.
Mrs. Reilly gives her complete attention to Ignatius and treats him like a 12 year old boy who
still needs her, even though he is an educated 30 year old man. Ignatius lacks self control, which
leads to obesity and health problems and yet when he says, Momma, I sure feel like a jelly
doughnut (Toole 51), she runs out to buy two dozen. This seems outrageous for a parent to kowtow

lack of teaching him social skills and keeping structure in the home is shown throughout as
Ignatius attempts to obtain and keep a job. He has no independence, or feels the need to become

Coach Carter Comparison
Life is an inexplicable process of existence. It has never been understood and will probably not
be understood in the years to come. In life we see comparisons and contrasts everyday in our
lives in one way or another. At the same time it is astonishing too, how one situation, person or
movie can have amazing resemblances to other situations and movies. It is always a whirlpool of
a mixture of comparisons and contrasts. One just needs an observant eye or a magnifying glass to
look at things differently. Excellent examples of this are two great movies; Coach Carter and
Pursuit of Happiness . Coach Carter directed by Thomas Carter is about the struggle of a man who
tries to mend his basketballteam into becoming educated students along with strong athletes.
Pursuit of Happiness directed by Gabriele Muccino is about a salesman who is struggling to make
ends meet, and raise his son after the motherwalks out on them. After watching these two movies,
the audience is left wondering how these directors or writers can think alike yet have contrasts at
the same time. Both movies display technical codes, theme of motivation and the analysis of the

Emily Bronte s Remembrance and thomas Hardy s The Darkling...
Toward the late 1800 s, Europe was plagued with bad news. They had already reached the prime
of their empire and were now on their way to the declination of the continent. Later, people like
Adolf Hitler would try to bring it back to its full glory, but for now everything was heading south.
As usual, the tone of artistic works followed the success of the empire. Many pieces of art and
literature became darker. Even poets such as Thomas Hardyand Emily Bronte started to write in a

We Are Fascinated By Robots
People are fascinated by robots. Movies for many years have explored themes of humanity and
artificial intelligence, and at what point those two mix. Perhaps what is so interesting about these
films is the question humans have been asking themselves for thousands of years, what makes
something human? Or even, What makes someone sentient ? It s an intriguing thought. The movie,
I, Robot, asks this question, but it also explores something called the Three Laws , and several
moral theories. While perhaps it doesn t answer any of the queries it brings up, the film is at the
very least, curious and thought provoking. The movie I, Robot is set in the vaguely near future
where personal robots have been integrated into society. These robots are in most every household,
like the smart phones of today, and they are being designed to look increasingly human. While most
people in the movie consider these robots as laptops or iPods that is, a piece of machinery that
could do more harm or betray you than a toaster could a Detective Spooner regards them with
suspicion. Because of an car crash where a robot rescued him instead of a young girl, as the robot
calculated Spooner had a greater chance of survival, the Detective distrusts all robots. Throughout
the film, he is ridiculed for believing that robots could be dangerous. They are all programmed with
the Three Laws. Surely, with the Laws in place, nothing can go wrong.
Spooner then meets a robot called Sonny, who

The Effect Of Magnetic Organizer On Young Older Audience

How Did The Chinese Civil War Change In China

During 1927 to 1950 China was locked in a period of civil strife. It actually has been going on for
much longer but this time it was between the two main warring forces. The nationalist Kuomintang
party and the communist, communist party. Before China broke apart in different views they were
ruled by long running dynasties. For China, it only took half a century to completely change their
ways and become the very industrialised country we know now. The China in 1930 had twice the

There seems to be an increase in poverty in the United States and there are so many theories
behind why this might be a problem. It seems as if Society as a whole wants to blame this social

that are experiencing poverty. There are a few reasons why people experience poverty. They are
as follows: One, the liberal welfare programs that were started in the 1960 s, two, individualslack

someone to do it for them. Not only did they lack integrity but they lacked the power and
confidence needed to make it on their own. These individuals knew that the government has
been and will continue to support them so they became even lazier. These individuals became
lazy and began to involve themselves with only individuals of the sort, which developed into
anti social behavior. Once the anti social behavior sets in we can t train these individuals to

people to be normal. I classify normal as someone who is willing to support or at least try to

Hawking s A Briefer History
Steven Hawking s A Briefer History in Time tells a simplified story of the universe. Hawking s
starts out the book by going over the different type of cosmology that was held throughout history.
He mentions the beliefs that Aristotle, Copernicus, Galileo and other notable individuals held about
the universe. This discussion is used to segue into a brief description of the different theories,
laws, and ideas concerning the universe held by people today. Newton s laws of motion and
gravity and Einstein s theory of relativity are only some of the models that Hawking discusses.
Thus, the main purpose of Hawking s A Briefer History in Time is to inform the readers of the
development in our understanding of how the universe works. In his conclusion, Hawking s
specifically includes the term Mind of God (142). I believe that for Hawking, to understand the
mind of God is to understand the workings of the universe and our place in it. Hawking s A
Briefer History of Time also asserts that it is possible to know the mind of God. In essence,
although, Hawking does not explicitly say that we can explain the world without God, he does use
the theories of others to question the existence of God. Although, Hawking s discussion of the
theories concerning the universe can be seen as contradictory to the idea of an absolute God, the
theories coincide and broaden my understanding of God.
Hawking s explanation of Newton s models portrays the universe as complex because of the
relative state of

religion in the country began to alter as well. The actions of parliament and the Victorian Society
had enormous effects on the people and the way they viewed English society. Thomas Hardy s
novel, Tess of the D Urbervilles, depicts the consequences of uncontrollable forces on the lives of
the Christians through the form of tragedies during England s Victorian Era. The society of England
in the 1800 s changed drastically through the rule of Queen Victoria and even changed the
country s views of religion and class divisions. Thomas Hardy, born on June 2, 1840, in Higher
Bockhampton, Dorset, England, was the eldest son of Thomas Hardy and Jemima Hardy. His
mother influenced his love of reading and writing, ultimately impacting his future career. Hardy
grew up in a mostly rural lifestyle and his only primary education lasted until he was sixteen
years of age, before departing to become an apprentice of John Hicks and follow in the footsteps
of his father. Hardy s first choice was to become an Anglican minister, but later changed his mind
as he lacked interest in religion and did not possess the money

The Beatles’ Legacy Essay
The Beatles Legacy
Many know The Beatles as the most popular and influential music group of the 20th century. In the
early 1960 s, their popularity grew rather rapidly. They continued gaining popularity well through
the 1960 s. Although their popularity has decreased somewhat over time, the influences they have
contributed during their career have remained apparent even today.
The Beatles originated from the UK in the early 1960 s. Before becoming known as the Fab Four
the Beatles had multiple band member alterations. In August 1960, after settling on the name the
Beatles the band had 5 members. Two years following the official band naming the number of
members decreased to four. The front line guitarists John Lennon, ... Show more content on

Their music was catchy and had a vitality and freshness to it that this time period wanted. They
delivered a laid back type of music. Almost like they were delivering the message that everything
would be fine. History shows that people flock to images of hope. During this time in the 60 s, the
message of hope, vitality, and care freeness was not only needed but also yearned for. However not
just anyone could have filled this position. The people of the 1960 s needed something new, fresh,
and uplifting. The Beatles fit that description perfectly.
The day they arrived in America the social phenomenon known as Beatlemania began. Many say
that to describe Beatlemania with words is impossible. It was a feeling more than anything. It was
a mass hysteria and deluge of emotions that had significant and extensive effects on society. These
effects shaped life, as we know it today.
The Beatles were highly talented musicians who had a very unique sound. Many of their albums
ran with different feelings and concepts. They offered variety, which people always enjoy. The
Beatles music was rooted in American rock and roll but also included some rhythm and blues. With
the introduction of this new sound, they redefined the parameters of rock and roll.
Their songs and the lyrics they consisted of were also very influential. Much like everything else
they did, their songs had variety. From a slow ballad in McCartney s Blackbird to the bizarre and
intriguing Revolution #9 the band

Theme Of Weather In Tangerine
Weather you like it or not, weather is very important
In many books authors use outside forces to change a story s plot or the way the characters are
headed. In Tangerine weather and natural disasters affect and change the plot and characters.
On page 50, Erik says, He was just standing there in the end zone. He had one hand on the
goalpost, leaning on it, and kaboom! There was a crack, and a flash, and he went flying through
the air. He landed right on his back, right there on the goal line. In this Erik is explaining to his
mom the death of Mike Costello, this is the first time the reader can really see Eriks true colors
and the monster that he is. This sets up many events that happen in the future, one major event that
happens becauses of this is Paul telling on the Tangerine Middle soccer players for breaking a
carnival attraction. Another thing that happens because of this is Arthur getting his dream to be a
starter. When Arthur becomes a starter he also becomes loyal to Erik and kills someone for him.
Not only did weather affect the plot, but huge natural disasters also affects the plot. On page 81,
it says, I looked and saw the entire portable being swallowed up by the mud, it s roof now where it
s porch steps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Tangerine characterchange is a major driving factor of the story, and is a part of the theme. On
page 284, Paul says, I saw I heard Erik Fisher tell him to do it. Paul s entire life he has been
running and hiding from Erik scared to face him. In the beginning of the book Paul knows all of
these terrible things that Erik has done and he never tells anybody not even his parents. He then
changes entirely after listening to Antoine s speech about coming out from under the bleachers.
Then Paul is able to link his brother to a murder and get him arrested, this the huge change shows

FEL utilizes locals to assemble and operate the equipment so having someone with knowledge
about local labor laws will be important, thus incorporating someone from human resources is
important. By building a team of managers from each of the major departments responsible for
fulfilling the project, the company can ensure that the knowledge is there to successfully tackle
the job. However, because FEL assigns roles on the team based not just on knowledge, but on
availability, they stand the risk of not having the best individuals assigned to the team. Larson
Gray, identify that there are key factors to successful project teams (2014). These factors include
having team members that are available for the entire project, are co located, and represent all
functional areas in the project. The FEL project team selection system does fulfill these factors
however, additional factors to a successful team include utilizing people who volunteer for the
project and who report solely to the project manager. The process utilized by FEL does not allow
for people to volunteer for a project and also limits the authority that the project manager has on the
team members. This increases the risk of poor team dynamics and individual buy in on the project.
The team selected included Bill Rankin, a design engineer, Rob Perry, an operations manager

How Did Pope John Paul II Decide To Become A Priest
The scene I found most significant in the Pope John Paul II movie was when Karol, aka Pope
John Paul II s name before he became a Pope, decided to become a priest. The reason being is
because it was actually a huge change in his life. Deciding to become a priest affected many
people in different ways, but specifically himself is what I m talking here. There was so many
things going on his life/ he had so much potential for many other things. But he ultimately chose
to be a priest. Karol s dad was a very religious person, thus making Karol very religious also. World
War 2 was happening at this time and Karol says that we shouldn t use violence in any way just
because the Nazis are using violence against them. So he prayed a few times. Karol

Odette Book Report Essay
Odette has been captured in the forest by the evil sorcerer, Von Rothbart, and was cursed by the
evil sorcerer to only be able to remain as a maiden at night, and to be turned into a white swan by
the time it hits daylight.
Prince Seigfried arrives at his birthday party, only to realise that people of kingdom and the
royal families are at his party dancing and celebrating, and bachelorettes are nervously trying to
get his attention on them. Prince Seigfried s mother passes him a crossbow and tells him that his
marriage would be arranged as soon as possible, due to his age of 21. The prince realized how
much responsibility he is lined up with in the future, so he decided to take his crossbow with him,
as he headed into the woods with his hunting mates.
The Prince finally finds himself alone in a secluded part of the forest, where is it peaceful, by an
enchanted lake with swans floating across it gracefully. As the prince watched them, he notices the

disguised as the prince s mentor. The evil sorcerer turned Odette and the other girls into swans,
and the lake was made up by the tears of their parents. She told him that the only way to break the
spell would be if a man, pure in heart, pledges his love to her. Just as the prince was about to
pledge his love for Odette, they were interrupted by the evil sorcerer, who then proceeds to take
Odette away from the prince and commands the swans to dance around the lake and the shore to
avoid the prince from chasing them. Prince Seigfried was then left by himself, all alone on the

Frontiers Of Love Themes
Second Theme Exam
Discuss the central moral issue of two of the authors as expressed in their books.
For my paper I chose to write about the books Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Frontiers of Love
by Diana Chang. Although one book is a work of fiction and the other is a memoir the two books
discuss central moral issues involving main characters in their use of theme. Ayaan in the book,
Infidel discusses her life and religious upbringings. Her neglectful father and her abusive mother
along with an arranged marriage. In the book, Frontiers of Love, Diana Chang discusses the racial
issues in her culture. The book follows the lives of three different Eurasians who are working to
find themselves in love amongst other things in this racist world. In the book Infidel, Ayaan marries
her cousin and is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is looked upon that in the memoir, Infidel, woman are treated as dirt and this ultimitely leads to
her leaving the home she once knew. This inspiring true story sheds light on a issue that most
including myself are blind sighted by. The story is upsetting, more so because it is facts, the
issues in this book aren t make believe but a true story of a young woman and her journy for the
freedom we take forgranted. In Frontiers of Love by Diana Chang, the novel although a work of
fiction still has some insight on racism that didn t just occur years ago but still occurs in some
countrys today. Each character in her book had their own racial issue to overcome even if it was
against oneself. The enlightening story of three main characters brings to light a look upon what it
was like for some mixed enthicities. Today, we still find racism in other ways, people are still
today called names that are of different mixes . Each author although telling different stories made
their main points completely clear throughout their book and each book had its own heartache to

Celiac Disease Vs Wheat Allergy
Bring Your Body Back to Health
Differences Between Celiac Disease and Wheat Allergy
A celiac disease should not be confused with wheat allergy or gluten intolerance. There are several
differences between autoimmune disorders and allergies. In order to understand these differences,
you will need to know a bit about the immune system.
The main job of human immune system is to protect against disease and other potentially damaging
foreign bodies such as bacteria and viruses, and also build protection against these invaders if they
try to attack again. When functioning properly, the immune system identifies a variety of threats
and distinguishes them from the body s own healthy tissue. The process of getting rid of foreign
substances and developing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Celiac disease is often confused for an allergic illness because (like an allergy) it requires a foreign
substance to trigger it. Usually diagnosed by a gastroenterologist, it is a digestive disease that can
cause serious complications, including malnutrition and intestinal damage, if left untreated.
Individuals with celiac disease must avoid gluten, found in wheat, rye, barley and sometimes oats.
There seems to be a genetic predisposition to developing celiac disease, however not all people
with a family history of celiac disease develop the condition. There is another reason, yet unknown,
why the autoimmune response

Department of Health Human Services, 2015). These provisions were aimed at providing new
protections for health insurance consumers, lowering the cost and improving the quality of health
care, and increasing access to health insurance and affordable care. While many of the ACA s
provisions had implications for community health centers, the ones that impacted them most
directly were the expansion of Medicaid and availability of subsidized health insurance through
exchanges and the creation of the Community Health Center Fund, which allocated $11 billion in
new funding through fiscal year 2015 for operations, capital projects, and expansion of services to
enable community health centers to serve an anticipated 20 million newly insured patients
(National Association of Community Health Centers, n.d.; Valley Community Healthcare, 2015).
For VCH, preparing for implementation of the ACA focused primarily on expanding its operations
and increasing its patient capacity, and this is the challenge I will focus on in evaluating Ms.
Wilson s leadership (P. Wilson, personal communication, June 5, 2015). Recognizing that this was a
time of unprecedented change in the organization s history and in her tenure as its leader, Ms.
Wilson immersed herself in learning about change management and the tools she would need to
lead the organization through its expansion. The

Martin Luther King Jr. And Rosa Parks And The Civil Rights...
Imagine if you lived in a society where white and black people had separate lunch counters,
water fountains, and separate sections of movie theaters. You probably wouldn t like it very
much and would demand their to be a change. The 1950 s were really hard for African
Americans, there was a lot of racial segregation between white and black people in society. The
racial segregation included separate seating areas and drinking fountains for white and black
people. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parkswere the main leaders of this movement. They
sparked a lot of needed change and completed this protest with peace instead of violence. Rosa
Parks decision to stand up for African Americanrights sparked a positive change for the Civil Rights
Movement and created a lasting legacy.
The Montgomery Bus Boycott movement was an event that sparked the Civil Rights Movement.
The movement started on a public transport bus in Montgomery, Alabama. This movement caused a
lot of needed change in society. The Montgomery Bus Movement was a political protest fight
against racial segregation. African Americans wanted to have the same rules that white people had.
The Movement lasted from December 5th, 1955 to December 20th, 1936. African Americans were
tired of the racial segregation on the buses so they refused to ride city buses to protest segregated
seats. This movement was the first big United States fight against segregation.
Rosa Parks was an African American who was tired of the racial

The Innocent Man Book Response Essay
The Innocent Man Book Response In today s society the criminal justice system that we live in
is flawed in so many ways. Some say that it works while others go to prison or jail for crimes
that they didn t commit. In this paper I will be covering specific examples from the book, The
Innocent Man, where the defendant s rights were violated. John Grisham talks about innocent men
being innocent and convicted for murder and sent to unlawful court proceedings. In this paper I
will be focusing mainly on the violations of his 6th amendment. The 6th amendment is the right to
effective assistance of counsel. Now Mr. Williamson was a very indigent or poor man and because
of that he couldn t afford a great attorney. Therefore he was assigned... Show more content on

This violation being in the form of a videotape, which could have completely changed the
outcome of the case. On this videotape there was a full confession from Ricky Simmons. Barney
Ward knew all about this videotape (as it was shared with him along with all other information)
yet he chose not to bring this evidence to the table and share it with the jury. Judge Jones ruled
that the tape was not a Brady violation. The tape was not really hidden; it was handed over after
the trial, sort of a delayed submission (Grisham pg. 258) .This one piece of evidence alone
would have been enough to change the opinions of the jury and change the outcome of the trail.
However because Barney Ward did NOT show this video, this is a clear violation of Mr.
Williamson s 6th Amendment, which guarantees that in all criminal prosecutions there must be
an effective assistance of counsel (Cole and Smith pg. 84). In my opinion at no point in this trial
was Ron Williamson s attorney an effective assistance of counsel . Now the last example of how
Ron Williamson s 6th Amendment was violated was as the very beginning of all this. During the
investigation of the crime scene, the police conducting the search had found two hair samples.
There was no proof that either of these belonged to Mr. Williamson, however they still claimed that
it had come from the scalp of Mr. Williamson. However this is just a claim and Barney Ward knew
that and should have jumped on this opportunity. Mr. Ward

Oppression on Women in Margaret Atwood s the Handmaid s...
Oppression on Women in Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale and Marjane Satrapi s Persepolis
Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi, is memoir of a little girl growing in Iran. She refers to a secular pre
revolutionary time through contrast, the oppressive characteristics of the fundamentalist
government upon women in particular. Her work is a lot similar to Margaret Atwoods, A Handmaid
s Tale, in which the protagonist Offred reflects upon her former life s freedom, cherishing her
former name and in doing so emphasizes the cloistered and enslaved life that she must now endure.
Although both Margaret Atwood and Satrapi show how a totalitarian state oppresses women in
different ways by taking away the freedom to think and decide for oneself, both ... Show more

In Haindmaid s Tale, women are divided into a small range of social categories, each one
signified by a specific color dress in a similar style: [...] her usual Martha s dress, which is dull
green, like a surgeon s gown of the time before. The dress is much like mine in shape, long and
concealing, but with a bib apron over it and without the white wings and the veil. She puts on the
veil to go outside, but nobody much cares who sees the face of a Martha. (9)
Martha s are made less by their clothes. When a woman is wearing the green Martha s dress no
one is interested in looking at her as a person. She is just a servant. Martha s dress makes the
woman serviceable not desirable, useful but undesirable.
Pride and dignity is taken away from women in Gilead. They are isolated from their families and
are tortured by their memories. They are handed a dress code depending on the role they play
and are forced to abide by that. After Satrapi designs a new uniform for her school, she says, this
is how I recovered my self esteem and my dignity. For the first time in a long time, I was happy
with myself (298).
Undeniably this dress code in both the books make women no longer an individual but an object
for specific use, stripping them of their identities and giving them no choice.

  • 2. Epidemiology Is The Branch Of Medicine Epidemiology Epidemiology is the branch of medicine that deals with the incidence, distribution, and possible control of diseases and other factors relating to health (Schneider, 8). In 1847, a Viennese obstetrician by the name of Ignac Semmelweis discovered the importance of handwashing in a hospital setting (Gawande, 15). Before the discovery of antibiotics, childbed fever was the number one cause of maternal death in childbirth. Semmelweis realized by not washing their hands, doctors were the ones responsible for carrying the bacteria that caused the fever from mother to mother. After implementing strict hand washing rules the death rate of mothers decreased from 20% to 1% almost overnight (Gawande, 15). Discoveries like the one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scientists have yet to discover what exactly causes BSE but the leading theory is that it is caused by prions infectious agents made entirely out of protein that are usually found in the brain and spinal cord and can only currently be treated if caught before symptoms arise. Humans that eat infected meat may be infected with Creutzfeldt Jakob disease which causes brain lesions that ultimately kill the infected. Another important function of epidemiology is the control of disease. Epidemiologists are tasked with researching and creating vaccines. A vaccine is a substance used to kickstart the production of antibodies and help build a resistance to one or several diseases, created from a part of the existing disease or a man made substance. To create the vaccines scientists have to do thousands of hours of research and testing. There are many different types of vaccines; some deactivate the disease, some weaken it, and some even use a piece of the bacteria or virus to counteract its ill effects. If a vaccine cannot be found epidemiologists can use the factors that facilitate the transmission of the disease also known as determinants of the disease ,such as where it is spreading and the medium it uses to travel , to keep it from spreading. An example of a disease without a vaccine but with clear determinants is HIV. Epidemiologist do not only work with diseases that are infectious they also work with chronic ... • 3. Vincent Van Gogh Research Papers Vincent Van Gogh was a post impressionist painter, born in the Netherlands on March 30, 1853. He died on July 29, 1890, in France at the age of 37. Sadly, Vincent was poor and virtually unknown his entire life. Currently his work is known for its beauty, emotion, and color, and although he tried many times never sold a single painting. Van Gogh struggled with mental illness, despite this, his work highly influenced 20th century art and still wildly popular today. Van Gogh s passion for art likely began as a child. His mother, Anna Cornelio Carbentus, was an emotional artist, with a love of nature, drawing and watercolors. As a child Van Gogh was a mildly sad child. At ag 15, his family was having financially issues, and was forced to leave school to work. He got a job working for his Uncle Cornelis, at and art dealership, Goupil Cie. Van Gogh, by this point, was already fluent in French, German, and English, and of course Dutch. In June of 1873, Van Gogh was transferred to the Groupil Gallery in London. When he did, he fell in love with the English culture. He enjoyed reading Charles Dickens and George Eliot, and visited art galleries whenever he could. He as well fell in love with his landlady s daughter, Eugenie Loyer, who he proposed to. When she turned him down he completely broke down, throwing away all his book... • 4. Pi s Lifeboat In the novel, The Life of Pi, by Yann Martel, the lifeboat is a transformative image that alters and somewhat controls which path Pi goes down. Throughout the novel, the meaning of the lifeboat transforms. At first, the lifeboat acts as a zoo/ prison. It is the vessel from which Pi cannot escape, the object that he cannot run from. He has no freedom on this boat, and if he leaves, certain death is inevitable. However, as the storyline progresses, the boat becomes more of a saving grace. In the end, when Pi arrives on land, it is the boat that carried him for 227 days and the only reason he lived to tell the tale. Without the lifeboat, he would have died on the Tsimtsum with the rest of his family on the day of the shipwreck. The symbolic meaning... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While on the raft, he says that, I started thinking seriously about how I was going to deal with Richard Parker... I needed safe access to the locker and the top of the tarpaulin, no matter the time of day or the weather, no matter his mood. It was rights I needed, the sort of rights that come with might. It was time to impose myself and carve out my territory. (202) His need for the supplies on the lifeboat are what cause him to decide to try and train Richard Parker. Without his need for the lifeboat, he never would have chose to do something so dangerous and with such low odds of succeeding. Later on while training the tiger, Pi says my behavior was not an act of insanity or a covert suicide attempt, but a simple necessity. Either I tamed him, made him see who was Number One and who was Number Two or I died the day I wanted to climb aboard the lifeboat during rough weather and he objected (206). He reinforces the idea that to train Richard Parker is a necessity and that his need for the boat overwhelms his fear or the tiger. Later on in the same instance during Pi s training of the tiger, he tells of how the wild animal would make a point by knocking him off of the boat with one swipe of it s paw. He describes his retaliation by saying, Then I made my point, feet on the gunnel, boat rolling, my single note language blasting from the whistle, and Richard Parker moaning and gasping ... • 5. Grotesque In The Carnival Classroom The grotesque can also symbolize social issues that affect students lives and schoolwork poverty, socioeconomic power relations and class differences, abuse, substance abuse, depression, identity, and sexuality. Students are dealing with many of these things but they are not often allowed a place within the classroom. Standard classrooms strive to operate in separate spheres from students lives and social issues they are facing, but the carnivalclassroom would address those issues, much like the Feast of Fools did. It is important for teachers to allow space for these issues in order to inspire disadvantaged students to merge the learning platform with the platforms they are already on. Giving students full range of freedom of voice in their writing assignments allowing cursing, sex, violence, etc. can not only give an avenue to include the all consuming issues they are faced with, but also inspire them to actually do writing assignments, thereby completing learning goals. Pietras COM 155 University of Phoenix Fruit and Robots: Two Operating Systems in the Mobile Market Apple s iOS and Google s Android operating systems (OS) are both used in similar devices, tablets and phones. However, the look and feel of both is very different. Smartphones and tablet computers have become increasingly popular; two operating systems have come to the forefront, iOS, and Android. This can cause problems for the company because it can fragment their market share as well as confuse the public. Not all devices run all OS versions, not all devices look the same because of the skinning that comes from some hardware manufacturers. One major difference between the two operating systems is the fact that Android is part of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) which allows developers access to the Software Development Kit (SDK) to develop applications for Android devices, which is the most important part of the new Smartphone market. Apple, as with most things they release have a closed system, you have to pay to become a developer and develop with tools they proved. This puts a burden on the developers right away because Android is extensively free, while iOS has an initial cost to even get started, and that s if you already have an Intel based Mac. Application development itself is different in the respect that they use different programming languages to create the applications (apps). Android applications are usually developed using the Java language but with tools that are available can be created using C, or C++. Apple iOS applications are created using their own custom software and Objective C language. The approval process one applications are developed are also much different. • 7. Death Over Life in Flaubert s Madame Bovary Essay Death Over Life in Flaubert s Madame Bovary Often in literature, a character is found that is quite memorable. Never was this more true than in Flaubert s Madame Bovary. To some, Emma Bovary s action at the end of the novel was drastic and unnecessary; others believed her death to be the end of the natural progression of the story. However, Emma s decision to commit suicide was relatively simple, yet came as a last resort. She had exhausted all the other options she felt were available, and in the end made her plan based on finances, lost love, and the sheer boredom of her life. One motivation for Emma s suicide was her financial problems. She spent extravagant amounts of her husband, Charles , money on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Emma learned she was just one in a long line of conquests, she was devastated, emotionally and physically. Her later affair with Leon filled a void in her life, but as she herself noted, it was not enough. No matter! She was not happy she never had been...nothing was worth the trouble of seeking it...the sweetest kisses left...only the unattainable desire for a greater delight (Flaubert 200). As one critic noted, ...the shattering of her Romantic ideals...[caused her to carry] to the second amour fewer illusions...that Leon had grown tired [still] filled her with bitterness... (Green 233). The affair with Leon involved many trips to Rouen, and it is interesting to note that ...the outings to Rouen lose their charm as her love for Leon turns to disgust (Turnell 106). Her affair with Leon ended when it became stagnant, although she was in no less pain than before. Of all Emma s reasons to wish for death, disappointment in life and marriage was probably the strongest contributor. She had expected her life to be like a romance novel, where everyone was happy and rich; she grew frustrated and angry when her life was ordinary. Emma wanted Charles to be her Prince Charming, not a toad. Although Charles doted on Emma, almost to the point of smothering her, she wanted more. She ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The most obvious problem with detecting is no one in a part of the scheme is willing to do due diligence and internal reporting. The values of a company are an important indicator of the practices which benefits all participants as a whole(shareholders, employees, public). Firms that stake a claim in CSR view their responsibilities as extending to a wide variety of disclosures and social reporting (e.g., the triple bottom line social, environmental, and financial; Council on Economic Priorities[...] (Laufer, 2010). The willingness of a company in disclosing financial information and reporting, helps shareholders as well as regulators determine whether or not there is illegal activity within the company. There can be a growing trust of financial institutions from shareholders, regulators and the public if more companies practice corporate social responsibility on a consistent basis. For example, if Bernie Madoff had to disclose all of his reports to investors and regulators, then there would have been a chance that he would have not succeeded in duping for as long as he did. Under liquidation, the term sheet stipulates that the Series E investors is entitled to claim its initial investment of $10.75 million plus any accrued but unpaid dividend. Any proceeds after this claim will then be distributed to all common and Series E Preferred shareholders on an as converted pro rata basis. This double dipping means that RSC will not only recover its initial investment of $5 millions, but also enjoys the convertible benefits. As a result, if the sale occurs before 2000, the profitability for A D tranches will be negatively impacted by the preferred characteristic in the Series E. However if the sale occurs after 2000, A and B tranches will be gradually redeemed on an annual basis, which will leave C and D tranches to be mostly impacted adversely by the preferred characteristic in the Series E stock. Under the circumstance of an IPO, tranches C, D and E will convert to common at their negotiated prices while A B will be redeemed. However, on the flip side, the price offered by RSC and TCV consortium was $6, which was significantly higher than the first three rounds of financing (tranches A,B and C) at

For many Solomon Islanders Woodford is unaffordable however it is cheaper for Solomon Island citizens at $50,700.00 compared to $68,440.00 per year. This does not deter international students from going to Woodford as the principle Anthony Baron, stated that they had close to 50% Solomon Island students and 50% of the students from other parts of the world. This creates a multicultural environment for all young people at the school and improves cultural awareness in the region. Tomalin and Stempleski (2013) agree with this and suggest that this is important because it helps students understand everyone has different cultural behaviours, words may have different connotations to someone from another culture and creates curiosity about other cultures as well as encouraging empathy. When I was young, before the age of 12, I enjoyed observing my father as he worked on damaged electronic devices. As I got older, my curiosity became immense and I started to ask many questions. At first, I got to unscrew the object with screwdrivers. In the article How to Use a Screwdriver by an eHow contributor instructed that rotating the screwdriver clockwise would insert the screw. If you rotate the screwdriver counter clockwise it would remove the screw. I still remember how to insert and remove a screw with a screwdriver until this day. Some simple examples are capacitors, which are shaped differently according to their functionality. The Basic Electronics Tutorials explained the Capacitor, sometimes referred to as a Condenser, is a simple passive device that is used to store electricity . Nuclear Power Is The Best Efficient Power Production Method Introduction: Over the years there has been controversy over whether nuclear power is the most efficient power production method in the world for the future. As global warming is increasing, the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the air is also increasing, and a global concern is arising about whether the current power production methods using fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas are long term, as these power production methods are seen as temporary because these recourses are becoming abundant. The most widely thought concern of the population is how long the systems we are currently are going to last before the fuel for power runs out. There have been successful attempts to use ecological systems such as hydropower, wind energy,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similarly, there are ethnic concerns about the production of atomic bombs, as these are a form of fission but are an uncontrolled chain reaction unlike the controlled chain reaction of fission that provides energy in nuclear reactors. Nuclear energy allows one to produce energy without increasing the atmospheric carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases and does not stimulate global warming. There are two ways that this can be achieved, either through nuclear fission or through nuclear fusion. Fission is known as the splitting of large nuclei such as Uranium 235, resulting in a loss of mass and hence a release in energy in the form of heat. This energy is used to produce steam, making a turbine spin, and then providing the power for electricity to be produced. It is currently one of the strongest substitutes for power production methods using fossil fuels as nuclear fuels could potentially last for about 2000 years. Nuclear fusion, or the fusing together of light nuclei to form larger ones can create another form of nuclear energy. Essentially, it is the exact reaction that occurs in the sun, as the sun s heat is created by the bombardment of hydrogen atoms creating helium and a neutron during which energy is ... It seems as if Society as a whole wants to blame this social condition on Society itself. I believe that the problem of poverty lies within the actual individuals that are experiencing poverty. There are a few reasons why people experience poverty. They are as follows: One, the liberal welfare programs that were started in the 1960 s, two, individualslack the characteristicof power and individuality, three, anti social behaviorand the idea that poverty passes from one generation to the next. These individuals knew that the government has been and will continue to support them so they became even lazier. These individuals became lazy and began to involve themselves with only individuals of the sort, which developed into anti social behavior. Once the anti social behavior sets in we can t train these individuals to assimilate into society, we can t train these people to be like you and me. We can t train these people to be normal. • 40. Hawking s A Briefer History Steven Hawking s A Briefer History in Time tells a simplified story of the universe. Hawking s starts out the book by going over the different type of cosmology that was held throughout history. He mentions the beliefs that Aristotle, Copernicus, Galileo and other notable individuals held about the universe. This discussion is used to segue into a brief description of the different theories, laws, and ideas concerning the universe held by people today. Newton s laws of motion and gravity and Einstein s theory of relativity are only some of the models that Hawking discusses. Thus, the main purpose of Hawking s A Briefer History in Time is to inform the readers of the development in our understanding of how the universe works. In his conclusion, Hawking s specifically includes the term Mind of God (142). I believe that for Hawking, to understand the mind of God is to understand the workings of the universe and our place in it. Hawking s A Briefer History of Time also asserts that it is possible to know the mind of God. In essence, although, Hawking does not explicitly say that we can explain the world without God, he does use the theories of others to question the existence of God. Although, Hawking s discussion of the theories concerning the universe can be seen as contradictory to the idea of an absolute God, the theories coincide and broaden my understanding of God.
