David Gibb Research Paper
Josiah willard gibbs spend his life studying thermodynamics and statistical mechanics. After
gibbs s discoveries albert einstein called him The greatest mind in american history . Mr gibbs
lived from 1839 till 1903, and he was an american mathematical physicist whose work helped the
development of physical chemistry as a science. Gibbs discoveries helped pave the way for
einstein s later discoveries. One of the awards he received which he could not attend because he
had died before then, was a plaque at yale university from the yale physics department on april

His theory was that every state of matter was a phase and each substance a component. Then the
the system of ice and water would be a component in two phases, then solid dissolved sugar in
water would be two components in phases. Within his 3rd paper gibbs introduced the concept of
free energy, which is now universally called gibbs free energy, it was called that in his honor.
This principle related to the tendency of physical or chemical systems to allow researchers to
calculate changes in free energy, like as in a chemical reaction and the speed of which it will
happen. There was a lot on josiah willard gibbs, but on every website i looked at it was 50% or
more on his background, the accomplishments weren t the main focus, although one website did
have it categorized, but a lot was still family, background and what his job was. His
accomplishment list wasn t as big as i had expected to be, their were a few fun facts in there but not
many. Hope i get a good grade on this paper, it may be not as long as you d like it but i m just

Solomon Asch Conformity Experiment
The Solomon Asch s Conformity Study is an experiment where a standard line is shown to an
audience along with three other lines: one will be longer, one will be shorter, one will be the
exact same line as the standard. The goal is to identify which is the same line A, B, or C and the
answer was always obvious. The task is simple, but a person will be the only real participant in
the room while the seven others are confederates who were pretending to be participants and who
were trying to use social pressure to get the participant to conform with the majority group. For
example, if the real answer was A, the confederates would try to throw off the real participant by
saying the answer is B. With the majority saying B is the correct answer, the real participant would
agree with them, even knowing the answer is wrong because everyone else didn t say A.
The experiment was tested on 50 male students from Swarthmore College, and on average, about
32% of the participants conformed to the incorrect answer with the majority. ... Show more content

In the control group, with no pressure to conform to confederates, less than 1% of participants
gave the wrong answer. (McLeod, S. A. 2008). An interview was later given, and everyone said
they felt like they gave the correct answer for all, fearing they would be the outsider even though
they know they gave the wrong answers. This revealed the power of a group where the odd one
out would give in and agree with the majority in order to fit in. However, this destroys a person s
judgement. Asch s response to the results was that The tendency to conformity in our society is so
strong that reasonably intelligent and well meaning young people are willing to call white black.
This is a matter of concern. It raises questions about our ways of education and about the values that
guide our conduct. (Solomon Asch conformity

The Most Important Cardiac Muscle In The Body
The heart is the most important cardiac muscle in the body. The heart is located right under the
rib cage, right between your lungs and to the left of the breast bone. The heart is made up of four
chambers, there are two upper chambers called atria, and two lower chambers called ventricles.
The right side of your heartreceives oxygen poor bloodand the left side of your heart receives
oxygen rich blood. Your blood flows through your heart and lungs in four different stages, each
stage is beneficial to your health. The first stage starts off in the right atrium. The right atrium
receives oxygen poor blood and pumps it to the right ventricle through the tricuspid valve. Next, the
right atrium then contracts and blood is pumped into the right

Joy Kogawa s Where There Is A Wall
The poem Where There is a Wall by Joy Kogawa is about the struggles of overcoming challenges
in life. Kogawa s poem addresses a social phenomenon. The poet was born in Vancouver, British
Columbia and her writing style is explained by the events that happened early on in her life.
Kogawa s family was sent to an internment camp for Japanese Canadians during World Word II.
Therefore, the poet s history with racism has greatly impacted her and influences her writing
today. Considering the poets past experiences with racism the poem is told in an objective view
and could be described as her giving an inspirational pep talk to her readers. For the most part, the
poet s word choice is concrete and the poem is free of clichГ©s. Also, the diction that

Pediatric Registered Nurse
The first step to becoming a Pediatric Registered Nurse is to earn a Bachelor of Science in
Nursing degree. This takes about 3 to 4 years. Getting into a nursing program is highly
competitive and requires the best grades and GPA. After graduating, you must pass the national
licensing exam called the NCLEX RN to be able to work as a Registered Nurse. After gaining
experience from training with children with different diseases or health issues, you can continue
education and receive a certification in pediatric nursing. A Pediatric Nurse s range salary would
be between $52,000 to $88,000, depending on where you work and the employer. Nurses have
been increasing demand and their employment will be rising for the next decades. Pediatric

Right To Protest
What comes to mind when you think of a protest? Maybe your mind conjures up images of the
Scottish people protesting in the streets for their independence just this year. Is the Civil Rights
movement of the 1960 s when African Americans took to lunch counters and Mississippi streets?
Perhaps it drifts all the way back to 1773 when Colonist protested 13 years of increasing British
taxation. The ability to protestis an act that has historically has been allowed; or disallowed; by the
people in power at the time. America was founded on the principle that individuals have certain
unalienable rights such as the right to protest peacefully. However; laws regarding the protest
legality and whether the outcome is peaceful relies heavily on the people... Show more content on

Particularly in south western states; legal and undocumented immigrants are organizing more than
ever. In Southern states it appears that Hispanics have been met with more resistance and police

police to beat people in the south. In contrast, I pose this question, Does an illegal immigrant have
the right to legally protest to change the laws in a land in which they have entered illegally, and if
so does law enforcement have a right to interact with them in a more hostile manner?
Around the world citizens of countries who have no laws allowing demonstrations of protest
peaceful or otherwise are protesting in the streets. When those citizens take up arms and fight back
the government law enforcement with rock and bottles, American media is quick to cast harsh
criticisms of government and side with the people. (cite) All too often stories of civil disobedience

King Solomon s Mines
Henry Rider Haggard sets out to create a peculiarly thrilling and vigorous tale of adventure, in his
book King Solomon s Mines. King Solomon s Mines is a romantic adventure tale. Sir Henry Curtis,
Captain Good and the Allan Quatermain set out on a perilous journey in search for a lost
companion and fabled treasure. The book is based in Zululand, Africa and conveys the
fascination Sir Henry R. Haggard found in Africa s landscape, wild life, and mysterious past
(Drabble 210). This term paper relates to how Sir Henry Rider Haggard s experiences and life in
Africa have influenced his writings and in particular King Solomon s Mines.

In Kukuanaland, they encounter a barbaric king, Twala. According to Haggard Twala
appearance was that of an enormous man with the most entirely repulsive countenance we had
ever beheld (103). Umpoba, the mysterious Zulu servant, steps forward to claim his right to the
throne (Sir Henry Rider Haggard (1856 1925) 3). After a series of bloody battles, Twala is
overthrown, and Umpoba, the rightful heir becomes king (Haggard 175). Finally Sir Henry,
Captain Good, and Allan set out for King Solomon s Mines, accompanied by an evil witch
doctor Gagool (Haggard 187). In the deep chambers of the mines Gagool deserts the company,
and seals the passage to leave them hopelessly trapped (Sir Henry Rider Haggard (1856 1925) 3).
Having abandoned hope the company surrender themselves to death but as they say where there s
life there s hope, (Haggard 212) they manage to find a way out of the miserable mines and Allan
Quatermain scrambles a few diamonds with him. On their homeward journey, they find Neville on
the outskirts of the desert (Haggard 232). The company returns home rich, famous and successful.
Allan Quatermain is a first person narration by the author. Allan is a veteran elephant hunter. He is
recruited by Captain Good and Henry Curtis on their expedition to King Solomon s Mines. Allan
is described as a timid man; he is not much of an adventurer. He prefers to stay on the safe side.

Peer Assistance Programs for Nurses
Substance abuse among health care professionals is an issue that is continually gaining more
attention due to the harmful affects it can have individuals as well as the patients. Substance
abuse can greatly hinder the ability to provide quality care and if left unchecked could lead to
serious implications within the health care facility. There are a significant amount of nurses and
health care providers that deal with substance abuse problems. At one point, it was estimated, that
2 3%, of all nurses were addicted to drugs (Trinkoff, Storr, 1998). To encourage nurses to seek
help, the Texas Peer Assistance Program for Nurses was created. This program gives employers,
LVNs and RNs the ability to seek help, education, guidance, and... Show more content on

After researching peer assistance programs, it is apparent that they foster several ethical
principles. The most prevalent of these ethical issues include autonomy, beneficence, non
malfeasance, and fidelity. Autonomy refers to a person s right of freedom or the right to make
their own choices, assuming they are mentally competent to do so. An example of this would be
the nurses right to seek help for a substance abuse problem. The nurse has the freedom to choose
whether or not to go to treatment and no one else can force him or her to obtain help.
Beneficence is the ability to prevent harm or promote good within the heath care setting. Non
malfeasance is to do no harm and fidelity states that it is the nurse s job to always practice
faithfully. It is these ethical principles that serve as the backbone for all nursing practice. Nurses
are required to abide by these principles as stated by the rules and regulations set forth by the
Texas Board of Nursing and the Nursing Practice Acts. In regard to this case study, several ethical
perspectives by both the patient and the nurse need to be considered. First of all, when it comes to
substance abuse the patient would most likely take the perspective that the nurse violated the
ethical codes of fidelity, beneficence, and non malfeasance. The patient has the right to receive
proper treatment and when a nurse abuses substances,

The Soviets Fault For Causing The Cold War Essay
There are several who have a different approach of whether it s the U.S or the Soviets fault for
causing the Cold War. In reality, they have always had clashing ideologies and different structures
of government that have played a major role in leading them to embark upon such a distrustful
relationship. Furthermore, the Soviets distrusted the U.S way before WWII when they intervened
in the Russian Civil War and didn t recognize the Soviet Unionuntil 1933. As a result, during and
after WWII, the Soviets were determined to dominate European countries with their own political
agenda to become the hegemonic power and believed the U.S. had the same motive. However, the
U.S was more eager on protecting these Eastern countries from communist influence and sustaining
stability throughout these regions. Despite the U.S s effort to come to a mutual agreement with the
Soviets after the war at the Yalta Conference, tension has gradually progressed throughout the years
that led to an even further separation between the two leading powers (Doc H). In addition to, the
Soviets disregarded the compromises made at the Yalta Conference to have free and fair elections
in Europe, instead creating a buffer in Eastern Europe, settling Soviet satellites. By committing such
actions, the U.S automatically became suspicious and concluded that the Soviets were ultimately
compelled to spread communism. The U.S further distrusted the Soviets when they secretly signed

What is the legal problem? 3. What law is the court applying? 4. What is the court s decision,
analysis, and rationale?
For this week, you need to find a case that deals with Due Process, the Equal Protection Clause or
Delegation.
Plessy v. Ferguson (1896)
What are the important and relevant faces of the case?
The Case is based upon The Equal Protection Clause, in which, this case occurred one hundred and
nineteen years ago, but it was very interesting as to see what has changed during the century. In
1890, Louisiana State passed laws prohibited races to sit together on railroads; something in
common with segregation in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reflecting the common bias of the majority of the country at the time, Brown argued that If the
civil and political rights of both races be equal, one cannot be inferior to the other civilly or
politically. If one race be inferior to the other socially, the Constitution of the United States cannot
put them upon the same plane. The Court declared the Louisiana law a reasonable exercise of the
State s police power, enacted for the promotion of the public good.
In the key passage of the opinion, the Court stated that segregation was legal and constitutional as
long as facilities were equal. Thus the separate but equal doctrine that would keep America divided
along racial lines for over half a century longer came into being.
Somewhat ironically, while Brown, a Northerner, justified the segregation of the races, Justice John
Marshall Harlan, a Southerner from Kentucky, made a lone, resounding, and prophetic dissent. The
Thirteenth Amendment...struck down the institution of slavery [and]...decreed universal civil
freedom, Harlan declared. Our Constitution is color blind and neither knows nor tolerates classes
among citizens. Harlan s dissent became the main theme of the unanimous decision of the Court in
Brown v. Board of Education in 1954.
No great national protest followed in the wake of the Plessy decision. Segregation was an

Conventionality vs Instinct in Daisy Miller and The...
Henry James s Daisy Miller and Kate Chopin s The Awakening were first published twenty one
years apart, the former in 1878 and the latter in 1899. Despite the gap of more than two decades,
however, the two works evince a similarity of thought and intent that is immediately evident in their
main themes. Both works display characters whose lives have been governed almost solely by the
conventions of their respective societies. Furthermore, both works also attempt to demonstrate to
the reader what happens when these conventions are challenged by individual instincts, which more
often than not are in direct contradiction to the dictates of convention.
The theme of conventionality versus instinct predominates both works. In ... Show more content on

Winterbourne and Daisy, in fact, represent two vastly different ways of looking at the same world.
He views reality in very conventional terms. Daisy has an unconventional perception of life and
reality in Europe, and she acts accordingly. Winterbourne is stiff, though worldly. Daisy is
spontaneous and naive. It is no coincidence that she is dressed in white when we first meet her.
James intends us to understand that she is very innocent, if only of European conventions.
James reinforces Daisy s unconventionality almost immediately. When Winterbourne first meets her
we are told, In Geneva, as he had been perfectly aware, a young man was not at liberty to speak to a
young unmarried lady except under certain rarely occurring conditions (James 131). But Daisy
flouts this convention immediately upon their first meeting. She not only speaks with him,
unchaperoned, but makes a date to go with him to the old castle, also unchaperoned.
Winterbourne is at a loss. He does not know how to react to Daisy. James explains that
Winterbourne had lost his instinct in this matter, and his reason could not help him (137). He does
not understand Daisy, and so he reverts to his conventional views and tries to categorize Daisy in
conventional terms.
By this point the reader has realized that although the work is entitled Daisy Miller, it is really the
story of Winterbourne s internal struggle. Daisy is the

My Birthday Story
It s June 28th 2017 in Austin Texas, and it s my birthday. My family and I gather around the dinner
table in our cellar.
I can t believe you re really 14 now, you re too young to be working in the fields, my mom added
with a glum look on her face.
She knew the hours of hard labor would soon begin to pile onto each other. My mother has never
been the type of person to hide her feelings, especially whenever it came to the fields.
At least I ll be able to keep my eyes on you all the time, my dad chimed in acting as if he didn t care
that I would soon be a slave.
Opposite of my mom, my dad never likes to show his feelings; if he is upset you d never be able to
tell. I m excited to finally get out of the schoolhouse I added, to bring up the spirits. Goodnight
everyone, I ve got a big day tomorrow so I m going to get some rest.
When I woke up in the morning everything felt different. My eyelids felt heavy and my legs were
like putty.
Ready to go hun? said Dad Yea...I guess, I responded. I knew this day would come but I wish it
hadn t. At least I will have some friends who are already in the fields that can show me the ropes.
My father and I walked on the only street here, the street that lead to the fields. When Dad and I
arrived to our working posts we lined up single file. There were soldiers everywhere pointing
guns and shoving people in line. As I looked around, I was revolted to see that every single man
there had a broken spirit. While everyone was glancing

Student Motivation Of Student Observation
For my off campus lesson observation I was fortunate enough to go visit one of my favorite
teachers from high school, Kirsten Galanter. She has been teaching at Evergreen High School for
7 years and teachers family and consumer sciences classes. During high school I took one of her
classes every year and she was one of the reasons I decided to pursue a career in education. Through
the two classes I observed on Thursday November 30th, I was able to to see how she used
different strategies for each of her classes, and then how this effected the students engagement and
classroom environment. The very first class I was able to observe was Child Psychology Kids,
which is a class I took during my time in high school. In this class students who are upperclassmen
learn about the growth and development of kindergarten and first grade aged children and get to
work one on one with kindergarteners/first graders two times a week. During the time I observed I
was actually able to watch the high schoolstudents interact with their elementary school buddies .
What surprised me the most about the high schoolers is how self motivated they all were. Mrs.
Galanter didn t have to remind them of the class procedures or when to it was time to head over
to the elementary school, all of the high school students did everything on their own, and every
transition was smooth. Even when the high schoolers were working with their buddies they knew
exactly what to do and what was expected of them, and the time spent in the elementary school
also went smoothly. These smooth transitions and the students understanding of their expectations
can only be contributed to Mrs. Galanter and her ability to enforce these schedules and
expectations with her students. When I was a student of hers, I was fully aware of what she
expected of me constantly and she held all of her students to such high expectations. Every day
the class schedule was consistent so every student knew what to expect and how the class
functioned. Her thought out planning of each days schedule, and high expectations for her
students have obviously led to a well run class of self managers. The next class I observed was

A Taxonomy For Evaluating Business Data Visualizations
A Taxonomy for Evaluating Business Data Visualizations
Submission Type: Emergent Research Forum Papers
Introduction
We are creating data in enormous quantities primarily because of improvements in data capture
technologies. But much of this data are underused or never being used. A detailed analysis of this
underused data is often impractical due to time, personnel, and other resource constraints. Data
visualization techniques offer a good means of taking an immediate look at this data for exploring
the underlying relationships then analyzing relationships and finally understanding the knowledge
embedded in the data. While there is an increased interest in Business and Data Analytics and
related areas, it appears that efforts to evaluate their contributions are lacking. The need for
developing an unified framework for evaluating the data visualizations is of paramount importance.
A special issues just devoted to this topic of evaluating visualizations exploring its complexities
(Bertini, E., Lam, H., Perer A., 2011) highlights its importance further.
The present study builds on these attempts to consider the contribution of various visualization
technologies by applying the ideas already presented established frameworks. To present our case,
we first define business data visualization and then justify Bloom s Taxonomy as a possible
approach to think of the contributions business data visualization projects and finally show
example of how to apply our proposed

Comparing Louise of The Story of an Hour and Nora of A Doll s House
In Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour, the main character is a woman who has been controlled
and conformed to the norms of society. Louise Mallard has apparently given her entire life to
assuring her husband s happiness while forfeiting her own. This truth is also apparent in Henrik
Ibsen s A Doll s House. In this story, Nora Helmer has also given her life to a man who has very
little concern for her feelings or beliefs. Both of these characters live very lonely lives, and both
have a desire to find out who they really are and also what they are capable of becoming.
Although the characters of Nora and Louise are very much alike in many ways, their personalities ...

She has conformed to playing the role of a caring housewife and mother. Her husband Torvald
keeps a tight reign on her and makes sure that she behaves only as he pleases. In one instance, he
detects that Nora has not been truthful with him. He remarks, My little song bird must never do
that again. A song bird must have a clean beak to chirp with?no false notes (761)! This remark
allows the audience to understand how much control he has over Nora. Throughout this story,
Mr. Helmer maintains an arrogant attitude and expects Nora to always agree with him. In one
instance, Nora remarks to him, But don t you think it is nice of me too, to do as you wish?
Torvald responds, Nice??because you do as your husband wishes? Well, well, you little rogue, I

life. For most people, what is worn and listened to, affects how others are viewed through the eyes
of everyone else and is used to express opinions and personality.
Typically, 2 people will form an opinion of others within the first 3 seconds of meeting one
another. The way these opinions are formed so quickly is, generally speaking, solely because of
physical appearance. All too often, in our society today, people are criticized for what material...

For example, it is possible to see a man wearing a pair of jeans, a t shirt, a pair of old, worn shoes,
and a hat that appeared to have taken quite a bit of abuse over the years it had been worn, and
listening to the kind of music that he prefers, and soon thereafter, witness another man, dressed
in a full suit: silk tie, brand new shoes that were so glossy you could see your reflection in them.
Then the business man, as he will be referred to in order to make this example simpler, that
passed the average man, the one in the t shirt and jeans, acquired the most disgusted look
possible to have been seen on a man s face, simply because of the fact that his clothes were more
expensive than the average man. The business man s face contorted in a truly repulsive fashion.
His eyebrows drew towards the center of his face and down to his nose. His eyes squinted and
became even more beady and harsh looking than they had before. His upper lip curled upwards on
the right side and revealed his blindingly white teeth. His nose wrinkled along the bridge. This is
an obvious sign that the business man believed that he was better than the average man by far.

PEST analysis for the car industry
Research question/Purpose
The Car Industry is changing its structure quickly. While Toyota earned some 124 billion SEK last
year, GM lost about 65 billion SEK. Many mergers have happened and more changes are bound to

these changes in the car industry. Also, reflect on the changes you think will happen in the years to
come.

Government sometimes announces a variety of regulations that could cause impacts on industry. As
to automotive industry, government regulations, such as improving protection for safety and fuel
consumption and improve emission against air pollution, have increased total cost to car products.
As is seen from above figure which is statistically made by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
(BLS), the middle part shows the average price of a car with no regulated improvements in 1967.
The lower part represents the value of added protection for safety and polluting emissions
equipments. The upper part is the price due to non regulated improvements together with other
quality and price increases. It is obvious that the government regulations have brought large
influences on the price of car products.
3)Vote for new president [5]
In early days, automobile manufactures hope governments to build public roads to stimulate
customers demands. Road building was sometimes also influenced by political ideologies. If the
government could take policies and actions to improve transportation system, the auto industry
could be benefited very much. That is why the voting of president could affect car industry. Once
the new elected president who supports to increase government spending on roads wins on voting,
whole auto industry in this country could have a brilliant future.

Ficer Corps And The Noncommissioned Officer
Abstract The officer corps and the noncommissioned officer corps in the Army go all the back to
before the founding fathers formed the country. Both of these corps have adapted and changed
according to wars and conflicts the nation has participated. The success of the Army is dependent
on the ability of officers and noncommissioned officers to work together. Training, education and
mentorship lead to officers and noncommissioned officerserving as the cornerstone of the Army.
Establishing roles and responsibilities It is important to understand the roles that officers and non
commissioned officers hold in the Army. Without this understanding, officers and non
commissioned officers become stranded and confused. The Army has continuously updated
regulations, field manuals, and other doctrine to keep up with the ever changing operational
environment the Army operates in. Army Doctrine Publication (ADP) 6 22 and Army Doctrine
Reference Publication (ADRP) 6 22 clearly establish the roles of the officer and the non
commissioned officer. Additional Army doctrine provides for other miscellaneous tasks or
responsibilities that officers and non commissioned officers either share or work together to
accomplish. A simple example is Training Circular (TC) 3 21, Drill and Ceremony. The non
commissioned officer has the bulk of the responsibility to conduct but the officer does have a role
as the commander of troops. Although Drill and Ceremony not does specifically address a

How Does Octavia Butler s Use Of Protection
Octavia Butler s indirect use of characterization creates a Motif of protection in 1815 and in
1976. By characterizing Kevin, Dana, and Nigel as Protective according to their personality.
Octavia Butler reveals the element of protection needed both in the past and the present, which
helps create the cause of white supremacy and results in violence because of the abuse and
conflict as it follows. Susan Elizabeth Phillips says: I finally figured out that not every crisis can
be managed. As much as we wantto keep ourselves safe, we can t protect ourselves from
everything. If we want to embrace life, we also have to embrace chaos. (Phillips). Knowing
protectioncannot be given in both the past and the presentbut can be prevented and prepared for.
Susan says we can t protect yourself from everything and this shows the relationship in both Dana,
Kevin, Nigel, and Rufus that everything cannot be predicted or foreseen without context clues.
Octavia Butler reveals Nigel trying to protect Dana from Tom W. owing to the fact that he tells
her to be mindful about how she speaks, because of this: he doesn t like any free and educated
black (Butler 74). Octavia Butler reveals the people in the past by presenting the element of
being protected and risking one s life for another. The past reveals having someone to protect
Dana which gives her a sense of relief knowing someone is there to care for her. Nigel warns Dana

Improving Logistics And Transportation Performance With...
Improving Logistics Transportation Performance with Big Data Executive Summary:
Transportation and logistics industry gets tons of data each day. Data for these companies will
come in different forms and we need all of the data to move ahead from others in this industry.
As the technology got advanced we are able to receive huge data from different sources like
customer feedback, data from sensors which were installed in vehicles for their movements,
positions, weather forecast and GPS to find their locations, recording phone calls from drivers to
customers for quality improvement purposes, customer demands, social media and order
processing applications. In order to analyze, process and maintain this huge amounts of data
from different sources is huge concern for logistics and transportation industry and have to
spend more money on it in order to improve business and its operations. As the data increases
from day to day it will be hard to analyze it and also to interpret for making business decisions. As
the data is generated more rapidly and data volumes are increasing heavily results in making
patterns and decisions for top management will be difficult. For this Big data comes into picture to
solve the problem. Big data provides suitable architecture for current trends and also to meet the
requirements in changing business and its functions. Challenges faced by the industry: Most of the
logistics companies use some sort of BI tools and have data

thunder on my ears. Tears were falling down my face like raindrops and we sat there huddled and
afraid without anyone to help us through this storm. I looked down at my brother and tried to

School Cafeteria Food Essay
Have you ever tasted school cafeteria food? I don t think you would want to. In school story books,
do you have characters saying that the food tasted good at school cafeterias? Nope. Why is this?
Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved.
Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods
and a better, advanced lunch system should be implemented. First of all, students aren t motivated
to eat unhealthy, not tasty food. If you observed students buying lunch in the cafeteria, you don t
often see them buying these kinds, but not limited to, foodstuffs: burritos (which are just beans
wrapped in tortillas), burgers (meat slapped on two... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A simple salad bar and healthier, tastier foods (such as soup, sandwiches, pasta, etc.) would be
the key to flourishing and happy or happier students. On the other hand, you may be thinking,
$3.75 $4.75 is cheap for a school lunch , Who would pay for it? , or If it s good enough for
school standards, then it MUST be healthy . $3.75 $4.75 is not cheap with the economy failing
and families having to stretch their dollars. About a year ago, the lunch was $2.50. If a student
bought a $4.75 lunch every day for a month, about thirty days, the total would be $142.50.
Multiply that by twelve months and it is $1,710 a YEAR. Compared to the $900 a year with the
$2.50 meal, lunch prices ARE pretty darn expensive. Secondly, if enhanced foods and lunch
system were implemented, some might say it would take a huge amount of money to actually
start the project. However, if tax dollars are enough to pay for billion dollar roads, then it s
enough to start a respectable lunch system. A portion of the tax dollars could be used instead of
it all going to highway and road construction. Finally, the food may fit school standards, but it
may not be such a good choice. Most people eat 2,000 to 2,500 calories a day, depending on their
needs. How healthy could a tortilla with beans, or a piece of meat slapped between two slices of
bread, be? Not to mention the amounts of saturated fat, trans fat, and salt! If you checked the

Importance Of Disabilities In The Film Children Of A...
Disabilities are common throughout the world whether it affects one s ability to walk or talk.
Although one may be born disabled, it ll take time for them to adjust to their surroundings. During
their lifetime, many emotions will be shown through words or actions. Seeing humans maneuver
around and communicate, those with disabilities learn; however, they choose to live how they
wish. One may reach out for assistance, while others will ignore the fact that they need help.
However, significant others or friends may try to change one s ways in helping and assisting them
to adjust to the everyday lifestyle. Furthermore, the film Children of a Lesser God demonstrates
how the deaf learn to communicate with the hearing. James Leed, who is a teacher of deaf
students, comes across a deaf co worker, Sarah who becomes his significant otherthroughout the
movie. Although Sarah is incapable of speaking, James communicates with her through signing;
however, a performance by James s deaf students occurs that leaves Sarah storming away in
frustration. James teaches his deaf students at his school how to speak and read lips. Although,
many can follow his techniques, some cannot. Sarah who is his deaf co worker, cleans up
classrooms and other areas. James gains pride and happiness when his students learn and perform
well. However, Sarah seems to disagree. During the film, there is a scene where James s deaf
students perform on parent and family day. They accomplish a task that surprise the

The Profession Of Social Work
When defining social work, the phrase a helping profession is used quite frequently. The
profession is often misconstrued with promoting the distribution of welfare. Often times, this
stereotype amuses me because social work is remarkably so much more. Not only do people fail
to realize that social work is one of the broadest occupations that offers various work environments,
but also they neglect one of the key goals besides the act of helping: empowerment. Yes, the
profession of social workstrives to provide the needy with physical resources to better improve
their lives through numerous institutional and residual programs, yet the most valuable assets a
worker can offer are abstract. Social workers are also supposed to educate people by giving them
the skills to sustain themselves in society long after they have received their services. By
empowering and teaching, social workers uplift and provide opportunity to those who are striving
for more.
Whether we know it or not, we all have an engrained sense to help others. For some, it fades as
we grow older, and for others, it only grows stronger. I ve always loved lending a helping hand; I
d like to think I get the trait from my mother. Growing up as a young child, I knew I wanted to
help people and give back when I became an adult. The occupation that would aid in completing my
commendable task changed quite frequently. At one point or another I dreamt of becoming a

Argumentative Reflection For Student Learning For Children...
Hello Czarina,
1) I like that you mentioned that students learn when they are having fun and when they are
interested in the lesson; this seems especially important for children with ADHD. It is certainly
important to treat Sam the same way as the other children, while also correcting behavior that
disrupts the class, as you mentioned.
2) I wanted to share a motivational video about ADHD as opposed to the negative aspects of
ADHD so I m glad you enjoyed Stephen Tonti s talk! As for things that he isn t interested in
taking him a long time to complete, I also wondered if this is a normal challenge that most people
face, but is just exacerbated for him because of his ADHD. Also, I can t help but wonder what kind
of a role personality plays in this phenomenon.
3) You brought up a great point, inattentiveness can be dangerous! Too often I see people taking
selfies while driving, and on their phones in general. I also liked your point on internal validation,
which I don t hear discussed (or written about) often enough.
Hello Kinda,

Nigeria s Strong Economic Track Record Burden Of Disease
Nigeria is the largest Sub Saharan country in Africa and has a population of around 173 million
people. The population is very diverse. It has over 200 ethnic groups, with three tribes known as the
Yoruba (West), Ibo (East), and the Hausa (North). These tribes speak nearly 500 different
indigenous languages (World Health Organization, 2015).
Nigeria has the largest natural gas reserves in Africa and is also the biggest oil exporter on the
continent. What this means in terms of global health is that Nigeria has the largest economy in
Africa with an estimated GDP of 510 billion USD, which surpasses South Africa s economy by
over 200 billion (World Health Organization, 2015). This type of economic growth can reduce
poverty, improve standards of living by offering proper education, provide quality healthcare, and
repair infrastructure, which will help reduce injuries related deaths. This paper will attempt to
explain that despite Nigeria s strong economic track record their burden of disease is still running
rampant, also there are many leading health indicators that need to be readdressed, and finally the
steps Nigeria is taking to combat these issues.
The burden of disease can be measured using the disability adjusted life year scale (DALY). This
scale was developed in the 1990 s to assess the burden of disease across regions, risk factors and
different diseases. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is a measure of the
years of life lost due to premature

George Bush Multilateralism
In the days surrounding president George W. Bush s address to the United Nations regarding the
political climate in Iraq, Washington had become a whirlpool of two different approaches:
unilateralism and multilateralism. After an attempt to appeal to both sides in Washington with his
initial address to the UN, George Bush s action of waging an arguably unjustified war against Iraq
without assistance from the United Nations can ultimately be explained using realist theory.
The dominant approach supported by Bush s Republican party was unilateralism. Assuming the
Republicans led by Cheney and Rumsfeld were truly under the impression that Saddam Hussein
possessed weapons of mass destruction, while also having ties to international terrorist groups, their
wishes were not irrational. The unilateralists felt that every day the United States did not act was
another day closer to an attack like 9/11. The main idea behind realism is that war is inevitable, and

Liberalism is centered around the ideal that peace is maintained through policy, rather than war.
In the eyes of a regulatory liberalist, international organizations can peacefully facilitate conflicts

administering nuclear inspections teams within Iraq. The idea was that the inspections teams
would find monitor Iraqi facilities to keep Hussein under control. If Saddam did not agree, then
war could be waged. The key is seeking alternative means of promoting peace before waging a
costly war. Under republican liberalism, democratic states do not wage war under the premise that
the citizens pay the costs of war. The multilateralists knew the war and reconstruction of Iraq would
be very demanding. With this in mind, they felt it was in the US s best interest if members of the

I am going to be sharing my thoughts on the character of Hamlet from Shakespeare s play entitled
Hamlet. The fact Shakespeare named the play after Hamlet is our first clue that he is a complicated
character who will be important to the entire play. Hamlet is the character who drives the story line
of the play. However, Hamlet speaks of providence which means he recognizes another power
driving his and his family and friends lives. Although Hamlet is trying to right a wrong, his father
s murder, he does not achieve this in a direct manner. He does not find the truth and quickly act to
see justice done. He stumbles and falls along the plot achieving his goal in the end, but he foolishly
kills a man himself and he often has strange behaviors and sayings. Although Hamlet is honored at
the end of the play his personality exhibits a combination of both foolishness and wisdom. ... Show

He is concerned for his Mother and obviously loved his Dad as he is out find if his Dad was

personality as she tells King +Claudius after Hamlet has accidently killed Polonius, that Hamlet,
Weeps for what he has done. (Shakespeare, 191) Showing remorse is not something a foolish
character would do. They would just be happy to murder, steal and lie. Finally, a totally foolish
person would be only self loving but Hamlet obviously loved his Mother and he expressed his
deep love for Ophelia on page 258 in Shakespeare where he says, I loved Ophelia. Forty thousand

Essay Ad Management and the Recent Turmoil in Financial...
There is a need for high level of consultation, co ordination and co operation in every organization
or business. To this effect, managers all over the world are often faced with the dilemma of
effectively deploying human, material, technological, natural and financial resources to achieve
desired organizational goals and objectives.
The collapse of the financial markets, touching off reverberations in the real economy in the last
months of 2008 has inevitably been described as the worst economic catastrophe since the great
depression of the 1930s. To this effect, many observers have raised several questions such as;
which parties had a hand in the creation of the financial and emerging economic crisis? Who is to
blame; people, systems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The misalignment of the interest of managers with those of the shareholders led to compensation
systems that emphasized on short term returns which lead to harmful behaviors like manipulation
of stock prices and excessive risk taking. This reward system encouraged high risk taking with a
myopic focus on short term revenue and even incentivized manager for their failures. A particular
insight can be drawn from the United Bank of Switzerland (UBS) report of 2008 which showed
how employees were compensated with strong incentives to use UBS capital to invest in high
yielding mortgage backed securities. Whilst this was, they failed to provide sufficient incentives to
protect the company, hence, mismatching priorities. This would not have proved costly if only the
senior managers of the firm were wise enough to put in place strong risk measurement and control
system.
Another issue, particularly in the line of managing objectives and misalignment of incentive
structure is that of the two major financial institutions in the US; Federal National Mortgage
Association (Fannie Mae) and Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac). These
institutions, although government sponsored to stabilize the housing and mortgage market in the
US, but also privately owned, however still berated by the

1920s Boxing Essay
Ap Language and Composition Final: Boxing
Boxing In the 1920s was remarkably popular and it conventionality increased in gargantuous
numbers. Multiple fights during this era occurred such as Benny Leonard versus Richie Mitchell, or
Jack Britton against Ted The Kid Lewis, other widespread events held thousands of people attending
matches. Both men and women participated in these events, however, boxing was not ubiquitously
held in the states because of its affiliation with gambling leading to baseball to maintain the
spotlight as America s number 1 pastime. The 1920s signified the Golden Age of Boxing where
thanks to the creation of the radio, it endorsed additional individuals of those who wanted to tune in

transcended the sport and brought upon it a large audience. The best boxers were among the most
famous people in the world and the biggest matches became tremendous events. The growing
sophistication of motion film helped bring the footage to millions, radios also had an aide to

Gender As A Person s Identity
Gender is imprinted in a person s identity. A person s identity is closely connected to the social
institutions he or she includes himself in. These social institutions have influence over the lives of
individuals in various aspects. One social institution an individual imparts oneself in is religion.
Religious institutions use scriptures as the primary basis for life such as the Holy Biblefor the
Catholics and the Quran for the Muslims. Of the data given, some Christians and Muslim non
heterosexuals experience social exclusion because of some spiritual texts (Yip, 2005). According
to a survey by Pew Research Center s Social Demographic Trends done in 2013 on the religious
affiliations, 48% of the LGBTAmericans did not have one. The executive director of the Gay
Christian Network, Justin Lee said, [the study] reflects a lot of my own experience in the LGBT
community. Many LGBT people have felt a lack of understanding and love from religious groups
Christians in particular and, as a result, they often walk away from their childhood faith and may
even become very hostile to religion. That statement is just one of the many sentiments non
heterosexuals experience in today s contemporary society. The following paragraphs will discuss
how Christian and Muslims non heterosexuals critique the traditional hermeneuticsand the
credibility of institutional interpretive authority of Judeo Christian Scriptures and Islam s Holy

When Secretary of State John Hay stated that the Spanish American War was a splendid little war ,
he received mixed responses from people such as William Jennings Bryan, Theodore Roosevelt,
Alfred Thayer Mahan, and Emilio Aguinaldo. Some people of the Philippines, especially the
nationalist leader Emilio Aguinaldo, disagreed with Hay s statement. They were upset that they

Wilson had also proposed the Johns Act of 1916 which granted U.S. citizenship to all the
inhabitants in Puerto Rico while providing limited self government. In addition to this, Wilson kept
a supply of marines in Nicaragua and ordered U.S. troops into Haiti in 1915 and the Dominican
Republic in 1916. He argued that such intervention was necessary to maintain stability in the region
and protect the Panama Canal.
Assess the importance of TWO of the following in the US decision to declare war against Spain in
1898: yellow journalism, sinking of the Maine, US business interests, Cuban revolution
America s short war with Spain in 1898 was the nation s first step on the pathway to becoming a
world power. The U.S. victory brought with it the unintended possession of the Philippines and a
vested interest in the politics of the Pacific region that would ultimately lead to conflict with Japan.
As an immediate outcome of the war, America found itself embroiled in an insurgency in the
Philippines that closely mimicked the conflict in Vietnam over 60 years later.
Cuba, a Spanish colony, had been in rebellion since 1895. The brutal Spanish response turned
American sympathies to the Cuban insurgents. The US Battleship Maine arrived in Havana Harbor
in January 1898 with a dual mission to protect American interests and present the Spanish with a
show of force. At 9:40 PM on the evening of February 15, an

The Concepts Of Software Engineering
ABSTRACT
Today Software engineering is the most promising and advanced fields in the market. So certain
methodologies should be applied to make it a persistent and ever developing in the coming future.
This term paper mainly concentrates on the Case Methods, which provide not only knowledge of
software engineering but also the problem solving and thinking ability among the practitioners.
Introducing the concepts of software Engineering in Educational institutions creates awareness
among the students not only with the knowledge of the subject but also the problems faced in the
real world, which further reduces the burden when they enter the software industry. This paper
focuses on features of Case Methods, their importance and benefits to individuals who practice
them.
INTRODUCTION
Software Engineering is the way of employing engineering concepts and methods to analyze the
requirements and then design, implement, test and maintain the software (Laplante 2007).
According to Differencebetween.info, in order to perform the above tasks, a software engineer has
to have a complete knowledge of everything right from understanding the need of software (its end
users, applications of the software, its limitations etc.) to the programming language that is best
suited for development of software and the right way of testing it. So, a software engineer should be
well versed with technological advancements, computer architecture and hardware. Software
engineering is a vast

Delta Sigma Based Digital Signal Processing
The proposed research focuses on Delta Sigma based Digital Signal Processing (DSP) circuits on
Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) systems for low power intelligent sensors in particular on
building systematic tools to study their design principles and fundamental performance limits of
energy efficient low complexity architectures and on the analysis of their practical advantages
and limits.
Integrated intelligent sensors has emerged in a wide range of applications including health care,
surveil lance, environment monitoring, smart buildings, and Internet of Things, etc, and has
significantly benefited society due to alleviating certain monitoring and processing tasks. However,
novel applications such as wearable biomedical devices require further miniaturization of existing
state of the art hardware while having more signal processing capability due to the need to perform
real time processing, i.e. not only monitoring but also detecting abnormal physiological signals and
providing help by calling a hospital or ambulance. One fundamental problem with these
applications is that the high performance signal processing circuit consumes too much power,
which limits system battery lifetime or processing capability. Thus, these applications require the
design of low power signal processing hardware, especially multiply and accumulate (MAC)
circuits, which are widely used in linear signal processing algorithms. Accordingly, the goal of the
proposed research is to address these

The Influence Of Haussmann On The City Of Paris
Over the past few centuries, after mankind had almost fully embraced the thought of living life
within the confines of a city, the people in charge of the maintenance and upkeep of the sprawling
metropolises that now dominate the world scene have used methods that are equally alike and
different in order to accomplish their goals. Often considered one of the first great cityplanners of
pre modern times, Haussmann was given the task to recreate the sprawling mass that Paris had
become into a landmark of both beauty and power. His personal style, although having its own fair
share of critics, is now considered to have been at least fairly successful in completely retrofitting
and modernizing the monuments, the roadways and the main public... Show more content on

These increased numbers led to very overcrowded living conditions, an inability to maintain even
the slightest control over sanitation conditions, and widespread death from diseases such as cholera
and tuberculosis. In these conditions, Emperor Louis Napoleon Bonaparte found Haussmann
through an interview process and quickly had him appointed to levels of high status that practically
made him the major of Paris. Haussmann was given a daunting and seemly insurmountable goal as
he took over as the city planner of Paris: to reinvent the way that urban environments were built
and maintained in a way that showed the power of the government while keeping to a budget. He
dedicated much of his professional life to this task, and when he had taken his last breath what had
been done would forever alter the way that the foundations of cities would be built. Haussmann s
main methods that had positive outcomes included: creating large new boulevards, expanding the
amount of green space that existed inside of the city, creating new sewers and fresh water systems,
and linking the suburbs to the city. His critics, on the other hand, argue that his tactics showed little
to no concern for both the historic buildings that lined the city streets and entire sections of working
class neighborhoods. They said that Haussmann had no remorse in bulldozing these types of
buildings, even if

Qualitative Research For Social Sciences
Alysha Angrilli: Seminar 1 1 Qualitative Research for Social Sciences Introduction Qualitative
research is the study of how people make sense of things. According to Berg and Lune (2012),
qualitative researchers aim to investigate the qualities of experiences that people have, while
gathering an in depth understanding of human behavior and the reasons behind it. In other words,
qualitative researchers examine the underlying meanings, patterns, and relationships of social
phenomena in order to describe people s experiences and perceptions. Furthermore, there are...

An example of inductive reasoning is demonstrated through McNamara, Vaantaja, Dunseith and
Franklin s study (2014) on recess programs in four low socioeconomic status Southern Ontario
schools. In this study, the researchers aimed to explore how recess influences children s interactions
and developmental pathways. They implemented recess programs to suit the needs and interests of
children by providing them with sports equipment as well as many other options for the children to
choose from. Researchers applied recess coordinator positions, which required university students to
volunteer their time to guide students during recess. In addition, they implemented a Junior Recess
leaders program where students from fifth to eighth grade were trained to assist children in conflict
resolution, encourage meaningful play and assist with equipment management. The researchers
explored the students, administrators, teachers and volunteers personal opinions on the recess
program and their findings suggest that recess program provide a supportive environment for the
students. Furthermore, they were able to connect and engage in positive experiences on the
playground which lead to increased feelings of safety and acceptance (McNamara et al., 2014). The
researchers used inductive reasoning by implementing the recess programs, detecting

A Statistical Physics Model ( Or Soal )
A Statistical Physics Model ( or SOAL Stochastically Oriented Asymmetric Localization) for Axon
Outgrowth Patterning Normally, at the leading edge, the molecular mechanism produces axon
outgrowth activity and moves plasma membrane extension of HSN cell body in the ventral
direction (Adler et al., 2006). However, in mutants, the different directions of axonoutgrowth from
the HSN cell body scored to create a probability distribution for axon outgrowth activity directions,
diffusion and displacement (Tang and Wadsworth, 2014). Therefore, the axon outgrowth pattering
is altering. Previous study reported that the extracellular guidance cues, including UNC 6/Netrin
and its receptor have role in determining the axon outgrowth... Show more content on

Using the probability distribution, we compared the probabilities in wild type and mutants. For
example, UNC 6/Netrin extracellular guidance cues can decreases or increase the probability of
UNC 40 activity at each side of the neuron. Thus, this probability is directed as a stochastic
process. In more evidence, the probability of axon outgrowth activity in ventral direction is
decreased, whereas the probability of axon outgrowth in other directions is increased in mutants
(Xu et al., 2009; Kulkarni et al, 2013; Yang et al., 2014; Tang and Wadsworth, 2014). Therefore, the
guidance cues control the direction of movement fluctuates over time. We report that this
probabilities can cause different regions of the neurons plasma membrane to move in different
directions. Thus the axon outgrowth extension morphology is abnormal and cause new axon
outgrowth patterning. Genetic evidence indicates that UNC 40/DCC, a central regulator of
polarization in multicellular animals (Ziel and Sherwood, 2010), mediates several signals that
regulates the polarization and orientation in response to UNC 6/Netrin. UNC 40::GFP clusters
randomly along the cell surface in response to polarization signal whereas the orientation signal
causes the UNC 40::GFP cluster toward specific direction (Xu et al., 2009; Kulkarni et al., 2013;
Tang and Wadsworth, 2014). Consisting with a random walk, we hypothesize that random walk

Ethnic Unbonding in South Africa
Manuel Castells notion of ethnic unbonding refers to: the gradual withdrawal certain African
Americans are undergoing, so that they no longer are a member of their initial ethnic group. Ethnic
unbonding is a process where individuals remove themselves from their ethnic groups, because they
are either ashamed or humiliated to be associated as part of a stigmatized ethnic identity.
So, race matters a lot. But, at the same time, the class divide among blacks has created such
fundamentally different living conditions that there is growing hostility among the poor against
those former brothers that left them out. Most middle class blacks strive to get ahead not only from
the reality of the ghetto, but from the stigma that echoes from the ... Show more content on

A similar concept of primary local and secondary ancestral identity is prevalent among people of
Indian descent. The Bantu speaking black peoples have long regarded themselves as South African
despite the attempts of the white authorities to classify them as less than full citizens or as citizens
of ethnic homelands ( Bantustans ) between 1959 and 1991. Strong cultural loyalties to African
languages and local political structures such as the kingdom and the chieftaincy remain an
important component of identity. National identity comes first for all black people, but belonging to
an ethnic, linguistic, and regional grouping and even to an ancestral clan has an important
secondary status. (http://www.everyculture.com/Sa Th/South Africa.html).
As a result of years of racial separation and discrimination, the majority of South African citizens
of which are black, have been severely ill treated based on the colour of their skin. A race is a
population that shares visible physical characteristics from inbreeding and that thinks of itself or is
thought of by outsiders as distinct. It has been used by societies to justify poor treatment of
minority groups ( http://www.sociologyguide.com/questions/ethnicity.php). For decades black
people have been slandered and stereotyped by the white superior citizens, to be uncultured
individuals. White people were entirely prejudiced against the black people.

The Roar Of Our Stars By Alice X
In the art work, The Roar of Our Stars by Alice X. Zhang, there are numerous details that are
present. In this piece there is a sky that starts off as dark blue and red towards the bottom, but as it
gets to the top it transitions to a less dark blue, and then to a light blue with a touch of a light redon
the left side. Across the sky there are what seems to be hundreds of whitepoints with yellow tints
that start off distinct and small towards the bottom, while growing in size and have a faded look as
they go up the image. These points that represent stars each have red, white, orange, and blueglares
that run up and down vertically. These stars create a cluster towards the top left corner that creates
a slightly blurred white light. Centered on the bottom half of the page, there is a person in a light
brown tweed jacket, a white button up collared shirt with thin strips, and a red bowtie. This brown
haired man is staring up, smiling with his mouth ajar, towards the main cluster of stars that are
creating the light shinning down on him with his hands slightly raised at chest level.
In The Roar of Our Stars, there are many different visual elements that are present. The colors of
this image are one of the main elements that gives this piece of work its distinct look. The colors
that are located in this image are polychromatic and consist of: black, blue, red, orange, yellow,
green, brown, white, and a peach like flesh tone. The blues, reds, oranges, and whites mainly are

  • 2. David Gibb Research Paper Josiah willard gibbs spend his life studying thermodynamics and statistical mechanics. After gibbs s discoveries albert einstein called him The greatest mind in american history . Mr gibbs lived from 1839 till 1903, and he was an american mathematical physicist whose work helped the development of physical chemistry as a science. Gibbs discoveries helped pave the way for einstein s later discoveries. One of the awards he received which he could not attend because he had died before then, was a plaque at yale university from the yale physics department on april 20th, 2007. Josiah william gibbs was born february 11, 1839 in new haven connecticut, in 1858 he graduated from yale college and contributed his studies to yale. After he was appointed... Then the the system of ice and water would be a component in two phases, then solid dissolved sugar in water would be two components in phases. Within his 3rd paper gibbs introduced the concept of free energy, which is now universally called gibbs free energy, it was called that in his honor. This principle related to the tendency of physical or chemical systems to allow researchers to calculate changes in free energy, like as in a chemical reaction and the speed of which it will happen. There was a lot on josiah willard gibbs, but on every website i looked at it was 50% or more on his background, the accomplishments weren t the main focus, although one website did have it categorized, but a lot was still family, background and what his job was. • 3. Solomon Asch Conformity Experiment The Solomon Asch s Conformity Study is an experiment where a standard line is shown to an audience along with three other lines: one will be longer, one will be shorter, one will be the exact same line as the standard. The goal is to identify which is the same line A, B, or C and the answer was always obvious. The task is simple, but a person will be the only real participant in the room while the seven others are confederates who were pretending to be participants and who were trying to use social pressure to get the participant to conform with the majority group. For example, if the real answer was A, the confederates would try to throw off the real participant by saying the answer is B. With the majority saying B is the correct answer, the real participant would agree with them, even knowing the answer is wrong because everyone else didn t say A. The experiment was tested on 50 male students from Swarthmore College, and on average, about 32% of the participants conformed to the incorrect answer with the majority. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the control group, with no pressure to conform to confederates, less than 1% of participants gave the wrong answer. (McLeod, S. A. 2008). An interview was later given, and everyone said they felt like they gave the correct answer for all, fearing they would be the outsider even though they know they gave the wrong answers. This revealed the power of a group where the odd one out would give in and agree with the majority in order to fit in. However, this destroys a person s judgement. Asch s response to the results was that The tendency to conformity in our society is so strong that reasonably intelligent and well meaning young people are willing to call white black. This is a matter of concern. It raises questions about our ways of education and about the values that guide our conduct. (Solomon Asch conformity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The heart is located right under the rib cage, right between your lungs and to the left of the breast bone. The right side of your heartreceives oxygen poor bloodand the left side of your heart receives oxygen rich blood. Your blood flows through your heart and lungs in four different stages, each stage is beneficial to your health. The first stage starts off in the right atrium. • 5. Joy Kogawa s Where There Is A Wall The poem Where There is a Wall by Joy Kogawa is about the struggles of overcoming challenges in life. Kogawa s poem addresses a social phenomenon. The poet was born in Vancouver, British Columbia and her writing style is explained by the events that happened early on in her life. Kogawa s family was sent to an internment camp for Japanese Canadians during World Word II. Therefore, the poet s history with racism has greatly impacted her and influences her writing today. Considering the poets past experiences with racism the poem is told in an objective view and could be described as her giving an inspirational pep talk to her readers. For the most part, the poet s word choice is concrete and the poem is free of clichГ©s. Also, the diction that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Right To Protest What comes to mind when you think of a protest? Maybe your mind conjures up images of the Scottish people protesting in the streets for their independence just this year. Is the Civil Rights movement of the 1960 s when African Americans took to lunch counters and Mississippi streets? Perhaps it drifts all the way back to 1773 when Colonist protested 13 years of increasing British taxation. The ability to protestis an act that has historically has been allowed; or disallowed; by the people in power at the time. America was founded on the principle that individuals have certain unalienable rights such as the right to protest peacefully. In Southern states it appears that Hispanics have been met with more resistance and police brutality than in California. In contrast, I pose this question, Does an illegal immigrant have the right to legally protest to change the laws in a land in which they have entered illegally, and if so does law enforcement have a right to interact with them in a more hostile manner? Around the world citizens of countries who have no laws allowing demonstrations of protest peaceful or otherwise are protesting in the streets. When those citizens take up arms and fight back the government law enforcement with rock and bottles, American media is quick to cast harsh criticisms of government and side with the people. King Solomons Mines Analysis Salman Farooq Ghani Mr. Weigel Honors English VII 11 December 2004 King Solomon s Mines Henry Rider Haggard sets out to create a peculiarly thrilling and vigorous tale of adventure, in his book King Solomon s Mines. King Solomon s Mines is a romantic adventure tale. Sir Henry Curtis, Captain Good and the Allan Quatermain set out on a perilous journey in search for a lost companion and fabled treasure. The book is based in Zululand, Africa and conveys the fascination Sir Henry R. Haggard found in Africa s landscape, wild life, and mysterious past (Drabble 210). After a series of bloody battles, Twala is overthrown, and Umpoba, the rightful heir becomes king (Haggard 175). Finally Sir Henry, Captain Good, and Allan set out for King Solomon s Mines, accompanied by an evil witch doctor Gagool (Haggard 187). In the deep chambers of the mines Gagool deserts the company, and seals the passage to leave them hopelessly trapped (Sir Henry Rider Haggard (1856 1925) 3). • 9. Peer Assistance Programs for Nurses Substance abuse among health care professionals is an issue that is continually gaining more attention due to the harmful affects it can have individuals as well as the patients. Substance abuse can greatly hinder the ability to provide quality care and if left unchecked could lead to serious implications within the health care facility. There are a significant amount of nurses and health care providers that deal with substance abuse problems. At one point, it was estimated, that 2 3%, of all nurses were addicted to drugs (Trinkoff, Storr, 1998). To encourage nurses to seek help, the Texas Peer Assistance Program for Nurses was created. This program gives employers, LVNs and RNs the ability to seek help, education, guidance, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After researching peer assistance programs, it is apparent that they foster several ethical principles. The most prevalent of these ethical issues include autonomy, beneficence, non malfeasance, and fidelity. Autonomy refers to a person s right of freedom or the right to make their own choices, assuming they are mentally competent to do so. An example of this would be the nurses right to seek help for a substance abuse problem. The nurse has the freedom to choose whether or not to go to treatment and no one else can force him or her to obtain help. Beneficence is the ability to prevent harm or promote good within the heath care setting. Non malfeasance is to do no harm and fidelity states that it is the nurse s job to always practice faithfully. It is these ethical principles that serve as the backbone for all nursing practice. Nurses are required to abide by these principles as stated by the rules and regulations set forth by the Texas Board of Nursing and the Nursing Practice Acts. In regard to this case study, several ethical perspectives by both the patient and the nurse need to be considered. First of all, when it comes to substance abuse the patient would most likely take the perspective that the nurse violated the ethical codes of fidelity, beneficence, and non malfeasance. The patient has the right to receive proper treatment and when a nurse abuses substances, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Soviets Fault For Causing The Cold War Essay There are several who have a different approach of whether it s the U.S or the Soviets fault for causing the Cold War. In reality, they have always had clashing ideologies and different structures of government that have played a major role in leading them to embark upon such a distrustful relationship. Furthermore, the Soviets distrusted the U.S way before WWII when they intervened in the Russian Civil War and didn t recognize the Soviet Unionuntil 1933. As a result, during and after WWII, the Soviets were determined to dominate European countries with their own political agenda to become the hegemonic power and believed the U.S. had the same motive. However, the U.S was more eager on protecting these Eastern countries from communist influence and sustaining stability throughout these regions. Despite the U.S s effort to come to a mutual agreement with the Soviets after the war at the Yalta Conference, tension has gradually progressed throughout the years that led to an even further separation between the two leading powers (Doc H). In addition to, the Soviets disregarded the compromises made at the Yalta Conference to have free and fair elections in Europe, instead creating a buffer in Eastern Europe, settling Soviet satellites. By committing such actions, the U.S automatically became suspicious and concluded that the Soviets were ultimately compelled to spread communism. The U.S further distrusted the Soviets when they secretly signed the Nonaggression Pact with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What is the court s decision, analysis, and rationale? For this week, you need to find a case that deals with Due Process, the Equal Protection Clause or Delegation. Plessy v. Ferguson (1896) What are the important and relevant faces of the case? The Case is based upon The Equal Protection Clause, in which, this case occurred one hundred and nineteen years ago, but it was very interesting as to see what has changed during the century. Reflecting the common bias of the majority of the country at the time, Brown argued that If the civil and political rights of both races be equal, one cannot be inferior to the other civilly or politically. If one race be inferior to the other socially, the Constitution of the United States cannot put them upon the same plane. The Court declared the Louisiana law a reasonable exercise of the State s police power, enacted for the promotion of the public good. In the key passage of the opinion, the Court stated that segregation was legal and constitutional as long as facilities were equal. Thus the separate but equal doctrine that would keep America divided along racial lines for over half a century longer came into being. Somewhat ironically, while Brown, a Northerner, justified the segregation of the races, Justice John Marshall Harlan, a Southerner from Kentucky, made a lone, resounding, and prophetic dissent. The Thirteenth Amendment...struck down the institution of slavery [and]...decreed universal civil freedom, Harlan declared. Our Constitution is color blind and neither knows nor tolerates classes among citizens. Harlan s dissent became the main theme of the unanimous decision of the Court in Brown v. Board of Education in 1954. No great national protest followed in the wake of the Plessy decision. Segregation was an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Conventionality vs Instinct in Daisy Miller and The... Henry James s Daisy Miller and Kate Chopin s The Awakening were first published twenty one years apart, the former in 1878 and the latter in 1899. Despite the gap of more than two decades, however, the two works evince a similarity of thought and intent that is immediately evident in their main themes. Both works display characters whose lives have been governed almost solely by the conventions of their respective societies. Furthermore, both works also attempt to demonstrate to the reader what happens when these conventions are challenged by individual instincts, which more often than not are in direct contradiction to the dictates of convention. The theme of conventionality versus instinct predominates both works. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Winterbourne and Daisy, in fact, represent two vastly different ways of looking at the same world. He views reality in very conventional terms. Daisy has an unconventional perception of life and reality in Europe, and she acts accordingly. Winterbourne is stiff, though worldly. Daisy is spontaneous and naive. It is no coincidence that she is dressed in white when we first meet her. James intends us to understand that she is very innocent, if only of European conventions. James reinforces Daisy s unconventionality almost immediately. When Winterbourne first meets her we are told, In Geneva, as he had been perfectly aware, a young man was not at liberty to speak to a young unmarried lady except under certain rarely occurring conditions (James 131). But Daisy flouts this convention immediately upon their first meeting. She not only speaks with him, unchaperoned, but makes a date to go with him to the old castle, also unchaperoned. Winterbourne is at a loss. He does not know how to react to Daisy. James explains that Winterbourne had lost his instinct in this matter, and his reason could not help him (137). He does not understand Daisy, and so he reverts to his conventional views and tries to categorize Daisy in conventional terms. By this point the reader has realized that although the work is entitled Daisy Miller, it is really the story of Winterbourne s internal struggle. Daisy is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I can t believe you re really 14 now, you re too young to be working in the fields, my mom added with a glum look on her face. She knew the hours of hard labor would soon begin to pile onto each other. My mother has never been the type of person to hide her feelings, especially whenever it came to the fields. At least I ll be able to keep my eyes on you all the time, my dad chimed in acting as if he didn t care that I would soon be a slave. Opposite of my mom, my dad never likes to show his feelings; if he is upset you d never be able to tell. I m excited to finally get out of the schoolhouse I added, to bring up the spirits. Goodnight everyone, I ve got a big day tomorrow so I m going to get some rest. When I woke up in the morning everything felt different. My eyelids felt heavy and my legs were like putty. Ready to go hun? said Dad Yea...I guess, I responded. I knew this day would come but I wish it hadn t. At least I will have some friends who are already in the fields that can show me the ropes. My father and I walked on the only street here, the street that lead to the fields. When Dad and I arrived to our working posts we lined up single file. • 14. Student Motivation Of Student Observation For my off campus lesson observation I was fortunate enough to go visit one of my favorite teachers from high school, Kirsten Galanter. She has been teaching at Evergreen High School for 7 years and teachers family and consumer sciences classes. During high school I took one of her classes every year and she was one of the reasons I decided to pursue a career in education. Through the two classes I observed on Thursday November 30th, I was able to to see how she used different strategies for each of her classes, and then how this effected the students engagement and classroom environment. The very first class I was able to observe was Child Psychology Kids, which is a class I took during my time in high school. In this class students who are upperclassmen learn about the growth and development of kindergarten and first grade aged children and get to work one on one with kindergarteners/first graders two times a week. During the time I observed I was actually able to watch the high schoolstudents interact with their elementary school buddies . What surprised me the most about the high schoolers is how self motivated they all were. Mrs. Galanter didn t have to remind them of the class procedures or when to it was time to head over to the elementary school, all of the high school students did everything on their own, and every transition was smooth. Even when the high schoolers were working with their buddies they knew exactly what to do and what was expected of them, and the time spent in the elementary school also went smoothly. These smooth transitions and the students understanding of their expectations can only be contributed to Mrs. Galanter and her ability to enforce these schedules and expectations with her students. When I was a student of hers, I was fully aware of what she expected of me constantly and she held all of her students to such high expectations. Every day the class schedule was consistent so every student knew what to expect and how the class functioned. Her thought out planning of each days schedule, and high expectations for her students have obviously led to a well run class of self managers. A Taxonomy For Evaluating Business Data Visualizations A Taxonomy for Evaluating Business Data Visualizations Submission Type: Emergent Research Forum Papers Introduction We are creating data in enormous quantities primarily because of improvements in data capture technologies. But much of this data are underused or never being used. A detailed analysis of this underused data is often impractical due to time, personnel, and other resource constraints. Data visualization techniques offer a good means of taking an immediate look at this data for exploring the underlying relationships then analyzing relationships and finally understanding the knowledge embedded in the data. While there is an increased interest in Business and Data Analytics and related areas, it appears that efforts to evaluate their contributions are lacking. The need for developing an unified framework for evaluating the data visualizations is of paramount importance. A special issues just devoted to this topic of evaluating visualizations exploring its complexities (Bertini, E., Lam, H., Perer A., 2011) highlights its importance further. The present study builds on these attempts to consider the contribution of various visualization technologies by applying the ideas already presented established frameworks. To present our case, we first define business data visualization and then justify Bloom s Taxonomy as a possible approach to think of the contributions business data visualization projects and finally show example of how to apply our proposed ... Comparing Louise of The Story of an Hour and Nora of A Doll s House In Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour, the main character is a woman who has been controlled and conformed to the norms of society. Louise Mallard has apparently given her entire life to assuring her husband s happiness while forfeiting her own. This truth is also apparent in Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House. In this story, Nora Helmer has also given her life to a man who has very little concern for her feelings or beliefs. Both of these characters live very lonely lives, and both have a desire to find out who they really are and also what they are capable of becoming. This statement shows how he has held her back from expressing herself as a person and has forced his strong will upon her with which to obey. Nora has also been forced to conform to her role in society. She has conformed to playing the role of a caring housewife and mother. Her husband Torvald keeps a tight reign on her and makes sure that she behaves only as he pleases. In one instance, he detects that Nora has not been truthful with him. He remarks, My little song bird must never do that again. A song bird must have a clean beak to chirp with?no false notes (761)! This remark allows the audience to understand how much control he has over Nora. Throughout this story, Mr. Helmer maintains an arrogant attitude and expects Nora to always agree with him. In one instance, Nora remarks to him, But don t you think it is nice of me too, to do as you wish? Torvald responds, Nice??because you do as your husband wishes? Well, well, you little rogue, I am sure you did not mean it in that way (761). Nora s feelings are constantly repressed and regarded as unimportant to Torvald. He admits that he ... How would that world appear to anybody that has lived in this world? Very likely, it would appear bland and boring; with no changes or differences in nearly all aspects of life. For most people, what is worn and listened to, affects how others are viewed through the eyes of everyone else and is used to express opinions and personality. Then the business man, as he will be referred to in order to make this example simpler, that passed the average man, the one in the t shirt and jeans, acquired the most disgusted look possible to have been seen on a man s face, simply because of the fact that his clothes were more expensive than the average man. His nose wrinkled along the bridge. This is an obvious sign that the business man believed that he was better than the average man by far. Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better, advanced lunch system should be implemented. First of all, students aren t motivated to eat unhealthy, not tasty food. About a year ago, the lunch was $2.50. If a student bought a $4.75 lunch every day for a month, about thirty days, the total would be $142.50. Multiply that by twelve months and it is $1,710 a YEAR. Compared to the $900 a year with the $2.50 meal, lunch prices ARE pretty darn expensive. Secondly, if enhanced foods and lunch system were implemented, some might say it would take a huge amount of money to actually start the project. However, if tax dollars are enough to pay for billion dollar roads, then it s enough to start a respectable lunch system. A portion of the tax dollars could be used instead of it all going to highway and road construction. Finally, the food may fit school standards, but it may not be such a good choice. Most people eat 2,000 to 2,500 calories a day, depending on their needs. How healthy could a tortilla with beans, or a piece of meat slapped between two slices of bread, be? Yes, the profession of social workstrives to provide the needy with physical resources to better improve their lives through numerous institutional and residual programs, yet the most valuable assets a worker can offer are abstract. Social workers are also supposed to educate people by giving them the skills to sustain themselves in society long after they have received their services. • 35. Argumentative Reflection For Student Learning For Children... Hello Czarina, 1) I like that you mentioned that students learn when they are having fun and when they are interested in the lesson; this seems especially important for children with ADHD. It is certainly important to treat Sam the same way as the other children, while also correcting behavior that disrupts the class, as you mentioned. 2) I wanted to share a motivational video about ADHD as opposed to the negative aspects of ADHD so I m glad you enjoyed Stephen Tonti s talk! As for things that he isn t interested in taking him a long time to complete, I also wondered if this is a normal challenge that most people face, but is just exacerbated for him because of his ADHD. Also, I can t help but wonder what kind of a role personality plays in this phenomenon. 3) You brought up a great point, inattentiveness can be dangerous! Too often I see people taking selfies while driving, and on their phones in general. I also liked your point on internal validation, which I don t hear discussed (or written about) often enough. Hello Kinda, 1) Great ideas on how to help Sam! Giving him an active job in the classroom would allow him to speak and move in the class without it being disrupting to his teacher or his peers. 2) Glad you enjoyed the video. As you pointed out, Steven Tonti did a great job pointingout the useful qualities of ADHD instead of the negative sides of the symptoms, which is usually all that is discusses. The population is very diverse. It has over 200 ethnic groups, with three tribes known as the Yoruba (West), Ibo (East), and the Hausa (North). These tribes speak nearly 500 different indigenous languages (World Health Organization, 2015). Nigeria has the largest natural gas reserves in Africa and is also the biggest oil exporter on the continent. What this means in terms of global health is that Nigeria has the largest economy in Africa with an estimated GDP of 510 billion USD, which surpasses South Africa s economy by over 200 billion (World Health Organization, 2015). This type of economic growth can reduce poverty, improve standards of living by offering proper education, provide quality healthcare, and repair infrastructure, which will help reduce injuries related deaths. This paper will attempt to explain that despite Nigeria s strong economic track record their burden of disease is still running rampant, also there are many leading health indicators that need to be readdressed, and finally the steps Nigeria is taking to combat these issues. The burden of disease can be measured using the disability adjusted life year scale (DALY). This scale was developed in the 1990 s to assess the burden of disease across regions, risk factors and different diseases. • 39. George Bush Multilateralism In the days surrounding president George W. Bush s address to the United Nations regarding the political climate in Iraq, Washington had become a whirlpool of two different approaches: unilateralism and multilateralism. After an attempt to appeal to both sides in Washington with his initial address to the UN, George Bush s action of waging an arguably unjustified war against Iraq without assistance from the United Nations can ultimately be explained using realist theory. The dominant approach supported by Bush s Republican party was unilateralism. Assuming the Republicans led by Cheney and Rumsfeld were truly under the impression that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction, while also having ties to international terrorist groups, their wishes were not irrational. The unilateralists felt that every day the United States did not act was another day closer to an attack like 9/11. The main idea behind realism is that war is inevitable, and that the number one ... The fact Shakespeare named the play after Hamlet is our first clue that he is a complicated character who will be important to the entire play. Hamlet is the character who drives the story line of the play. However, Hamlet speaks of providence which means he recognizes another power driving his and his family and friends lives. Although Hamlet is trying to right a wrong, his father s murder, he does not achieve this in a direct manner. He does not find the truth and quickly act to see justice done. A particular insight can be drawn from the United Bank of Switzerland (UBS) report of 2008 which showed how employees were compensated with strong incentives to use UBS capital to invest in high yielding mortgage backed securities. Whilst this was, they failed to provide sufficient incentives to protect the company, hence, mismatching priorities. However, novel applications such as wearable biomedical devices require further miniaturization of existing state of the art hardware while having more signal processing capability due to the need to perform real time processing, i.e. not only monitoring but also detecting abnormal physiological signals and providing help by calling a hospital or ambulance. One fundamental problem with these applications is that the high performance signal processing circuit consumes too much power, which limits system battery lifetime or processing capability. Often considered one of the first great cityplanners of pre modern times, Haussmann was given the task to recreate the sprawling mass that Paris had become into a landmark of both beauty and power. Haussmann was given a daunting and seemly insurmountable goal as he took over as the city planner of Paris: to reinvent the way that urban environments were built and maintained in a way that showed the power of the government while keeping to a budget. He dedicated much of his professional life to this task, and when he had taken his last breath what had been done would forever alter the way that the foundations of cities would be built. Haussmann s main methods that had positive outcomes included: creating large new boulevards, expanding the amount of green space that existed inside of the city, creating new sewers and fresh water systems, and linking the suburbs to the city. However, in mutants, the different directions of axonoutgrowth from the HSN cell body scored to create a probability distribution for axon outgrowth activity directions, diffusion and displacement (Tang and Wadsworth, 2014). Therefore, the axon outgrowth pattering is altering. Using the probability distribution, we compared the probabilities in wild type and mutants. For example, UNC 6/Netrin extracellular guidance cues can decreases or increase the probability of UNC 40 activity at each side of the neuron. Thus, this probability is directed as a stochastic process. In more evidence, the probability of axon outgrowth activity in ventral direction is decreased, whereas the probability of axon outgrowth in other directions is increased in mutants (Xu et al., 2009; Kulkarni et al, 2013; Yang et al., 2014; Tang and Wadsworth, 2014). Therefore, the guidance cues control the direction of movement fluctuates over time. We report that this probabilities can cause different regions of the neurons plasma membrane to move in different directions. Thus the axon outgrowth extension morphology is abnormal and cause new axon outgrowth patterning.
