Gallup Summary
Gallup, New Mexico, is a border town just outside the Navajo Nation reservation with an
estimated 22,000 residents; however, that number nearly triples on the first of the month. Social
Security checks are distributed to elders and veterans on the first of the month, and most tribal
members have neither access to a local bank nor sufficient consumer spending options on the
reservation. Therefore, most Navajos end up driving for an hour or more to purchase much needed
groceries, lumber, auto parts, and kid s school clothes in border towns such as Gallup. According to
the University of New MexicoBureau of Business and Economic Analysis study, significant
competition for retail dollars from the Navajo Nationis spread among several surrounding... Show

Second, having so few employers and jobs available in Indian Country leads to high unemployment
rates. And, third, the absences of thriving economies, characterized by a sufficient number of
privately and publically owned businesses in Indian Country, adds to the impoverishment of Indians
and their families.
Although the trust land issue is not specifically emphasized by Miller, this article focuses on trust
land as a primary impediment for entrepreneurs who want to start up small businesses or pursue
entrepreneurial endeavors on the Navajo reservation. Because Navajo land is held in trust, the
United States government has legal ownership of the land, and tribes and individual Indians are
merely beneficial owners. Selling and leasing Navajo land, even for community development, must
be approved by the United States. In his article, Ending the Curse of Trust, noted tribal entrepreneur
Lance Morgan says:
Trust status hurts individual American Indians. It prevents us from using our land as collateral,
which has effectively killed Native owned agriculture. [*181] This system left us with almost no
choice but to lease out our land, primarily to non Indians. That s why we are land rich, but still dirt

Tidal Energy
Introduction
Climate change refers to any long term change in Earth s climate, or in the climate of a region or
city. This includes warming, cooling and changes besides temperature. (NASA Oct.2011) Earth is
going through the climate change of global warming. Climate change is causing a big threat that
would cause great catastrophe to the world and this problem will influence everyone around the
world. These changes are caused by the greenhouse gases which are produced when burning fossil
fuels and transportation. When fossil fuels are burned, they generate a fair amount of energy for
people, but at the same time, produce large amounts of pollution that damages our Earth. To slow
down climate change, we need to start making changes and shift our sole energy source from
burning fossil fuels to an alternative renewable energy source. While tidal energy is an interesting
technology and is capable of providing us a carbon free society, but it can never generate enough
energy to reduce the burning of fossil fuels because of the massive cost for the project and there is
limited places in the world to install the technology.

Tidal energy is converted based on the movements of tides. Tidal poweris the result of Earth s
rotation combined with the sun and moon s gravity. The tides come mostly from the Moon s
gravity and a little from the Sun s gravity. So as the Earth rotates, the ocean surface rises and
falls. Compared to nuclear reserves or fossil fuels, the resource of tidal energy will not run out or
end unless the sun and moon does. Usually, there are two high tides and two low tides each day.
With all the water moving up and down, we can capture the kinetic energy from the tides. It works
just like wind turbine except ocean tides turn the blades instead of wind. (Climate Kids,

Interpreting the Constitution
Introduction Ever since its inception, one of the High Court s primary duties has been to interpret
the Australian Constitution. There have been many methodologies used to do so and many
schools of thought (have been adopted by different judges) in approximately the last hundred
years, but so far there still isn t one consistent and cohesive way of interpretation . In this essay
three types of options or methodologies that have been more commonly used by High Court judges
will be discussed. They include: literalism/legalism, originalism and progressivism. Other options
that may be considered by the High Court will also be examined in this paper. Literalism/Legalism

By using literalism/legalism the Court will be able to understand and decipher what a text means
and using a legal context of traditions and principles will guide the High Court in making their
decision . This is also the most commonly used method of interpreting a statute, therefore applicable
to the Constitution . Using originalism will give the High Court an understanding about the
historical context, which is important in the process of interpretation and could sometimes be
valuable in deciding the meaning . As today s world is filled with new technology and
advancements, there has to be some progressivism when interpreting the Constitution to enable it to
last indefinitely . In using progressivism, the Court needs to be mindful not to divert excessively
from the essence of the Constitution. This hybrid option could be the method that will give the
High Court more cohesion and consistency by having pre set laws or rules that can be applied to
multiple types of cases because they would be relevant. It may appear that using three methods may
introduce may introduce conflicting opinions and inconsistency. On the contrary this may be
overcome by the High Court using all three approaches in every case to make an appropriate
determination. For instance, the Court should examine the literal and

The Evolution Of Tetra Pods
It is often debated which species share common ancestors, in particular, how closely related
amphibians, mammals and osteichthyes are. The evolution of tetra pods, or four legged animals,
from aquatic animals such as fish can be traced back 365 million years ago to the Devonian, 408
360, mya, and evidence shows that this evolution was divergent in nature (Freeman, S. 2011; Myer,
A and Zardoya, R. 2004). Divergent evolution, also sometimes termed adaptive radiation, occurs
over many geological times and gives rise to a number of new species that all occupy different
habitats and show characteristics that assist in survival and reproduction under their natural
selection pressures (Kinear, J.F. 2000). Variations in these essential survival

2011). Different organisms can evolve in similar ways even if they are not similar by descent
from a common ancestor and this is known as homoplasy (Hawks, J. 2005). Classification of
animals is an important field of biology, as new knowledge about genetics, anatomy and
evolutionary relationships often leads to new thoughts on how different groups of organisms are
related. In the biological systems of classification, all organisms are divided and classed into
increasingly specific groups, starting with the kingdom, and finally being classed down to their
genus and species (Huxley, L; Watter, M. 2005). Animals are either vertebrates or invertebrates, and
this determines what phyla they belong to. All vertebrates, for example are all classed under the
chordate phylum, meaning that they all evolved from an ancestor that had a notochord along the
back (dorsal) side. Mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians and birds are all chordates. Studies on
vertebrates have revealed that progressive evolutionary adaptations, such as improved respiration,
efficient reproduction and paired muscular appendages enabled the vertebrates to survive in a wider
range of habitats and on land. The development of the earliest vertebrates and the transition from

Essay on Economic Effects of the Black Plague in England
The high middle ages from the eleventh to the fourteenth century saw the reemergence of urban
life, the revival of long distance commerce, innovation, maturation of manorial agriculture, and a
burgeoning population. Consequently, the fourteenth century spawned war, famine, disease and
economic decay, leading to what many historians believe to be the end of the Middle Ages.
Although there were many contributing factors such as famine, collapsing institutions and war.
Many historians believe the arrival of the Black Deathto Englandin 1348 was the final straw, and
the most impactful agent of change in that area. In a letter to his brother, Petrarch wrote, When has

With depopulation, agricultural and commerce reform and labor force alterations, the effects of
the Black Death in England were dramatic and placed the course of the English economy on a
new path. To gain perspective on the level of economic change in England, it is important to note
and understand the population trends, as it had a directly impacted all aspects of change in
regards to the economic effects of the Black Plague. In simple terms, the number of people had a
direct impact on the most basic categories of the economy: production and consumption. An
expanding population is only possible if it has the economic resources to support it. It seems the
Black Death s impact on population levels actually created a silver lining based on the Malthusian
Theory where English scholar Thomas Malthus claims, [t]hat the superior power of population is
repressed, and the actual population kept equal to the means of subsistence, by misery and vice. As
England was experiencing overpopulation, there was not enough agricultural production to support
the masses, but as the force of the Black Death swept in and decimated the population, it left
England with abundance of land and less people to support, resulting in a balance between
agricultural productivity and consumption. Although the Black Plague created shock, panic and
fear for a few years, this alteration in population left survivors with an optimistic outlook

The Conflict Between India And Pakistan
The conflict in Kashmir appears to most as a bilateral territorial conflict between India and
Pakistan. The roots of the conflict are often traced back to August 1947, when the erstwhile British
India was partitioned into two new nation states India and Pakistan. The foundation of the Islamic
Republic of Pakistanwas the Two Nation theory propounded by Mohammed Ali Jinnah s, the
Leader of the All India Muslim League till August 1947, and then the first Governor General of
Pakistan. The demand for a separate independent state for Muslims living in British India was
founded on the apprehension that they shall be prejudiced against in the Hindu majority state of
India. As per the said Two Nation theory, all such states and provinces where the majority of the
population was Muslim were to become a part of Pakistan after the British withdrew from India, and
the new nation state of Pakistan was created. The independence and the accompanying partition of
Indiawere affected through the Indian Independence Act 1947 (hereinafter the Act ). As per the
provisions of the Act, the territories of the British India were to be divided into India and the new
State of Pakistan. The division of the territories was in accordance with religious demography of the
constituent states. At that time, there were 562 Princely States in the British India, which were
nominally sovereign monarchies under a local or regional ruler in a subsidiary alliance with the
British Crown. These Princely

The Importance Of Weather In Literature
Angelina Blackwell
AP Literature and Composition
Mrs. Smith
9/20/17
Weather can influence many things in literature. It can influence the mood, plot, characters, setting.
Foster makes it very clear to us that an author will never put weather into a story with no reasoning
behind it. Weather is not just simply a setting in literature.
The author begins the chapter It s More Than Just Rain or Snow by explaining what mood the quote
It was a dark and stormy night creates. He explains how weather is never placed in a story for no
reason. Weather is a factor used to create a mood in the passage. A sunny day with no clouds in
sight... will create a happy mood while the reader could be imagining themselves in the story
being outside on a beautiful clear day with the sunshine hitting them just right. That could put
anyone in a cheerful mood, right? If the author started a story with The rain was beating down on
the roof as I realized it had been my first night without him... . Now obviously if the character had
just lost someone they would be sad but adding rain to the scene adds the effect of sadness and
allows the reader jump in the book to feel what the character is feeling.
When meeting characters in the beginning of novels, the author can add how they perceive
weather to let the readers get a feel for how observing they are. If the character pays no mind to the
weather the reader may see that had acted as ignorant.
Chapter 10 elaborates on how weather can

The Underlying Causes Of World War I
Underlying Causes of WWI
Though men around the world were eager to march off to war, none of them knew the dangers
that were ahead. During World War I, 10 million people across Europe died fighting for what
they believed in. WWI lasted for four years between 1914 and 1918. Millions of soldiers around
the world fought for what they believed in hopes of bettering their homelands and protecting their
allies. People were happy to support their country in hopes of new opportunities and better
resources. Soldiers predicted the war would be over in six months, but they soon realized World
War I would last almost half a decade in the trenches. Though the main cause of World War I was
imperialism, other causes include militarism and alliances.

Two major alliances, Triple Entente and Triple Alliance were created in 1907 and 1882. The
Triple Entente was formed by France, Russia, and Great Britain and the Triple Alliance was made
up of Germany, Austria Hungary, and Italy. These two huge alliances made up of the Central Powers
, each stood up for their own men and fought to the death in the battles. In a map titled, European
Alliances, the European countries are separated with different colors to show which alliance each
country associated themselves with. The countries in black represent the Triple Alliance, and the
countries shaded gray make up the Triple Entente in 1914. The white countries with black polka
dots show the neutral countries. The map solidifies the claim that alliances were an underlying
cause of World War I due to the great contrast in countries directly adjacent to each other. Another
example of alliances comes from The Chicago Daily Tribune in the artwork labeled, THE CRIME
OF THE AGES. WHO DID IT? by artist, John T. McCutcheon. The image depicts eight European
men each wearing a banner of the country they represent and pointing at each other. Behind them
is a woman stabbed by a sword with the banner reading ВЁThe Peace of EuropeВЁ and in the top
right is a hand pointing at the men. The picture is showing that none of them are willing to admit
who started the war. Each man is pointing to another in a different alliance. None of the

Disc Brakes Are The Finest
Disc Brakes are the Finest
Brakes have been around for a few years, and only a couple different types of brakes can be
manufactured. The two classifications of brakes are disc brakes and drum brakes. Drum brakes are
an older type of brake that uses springs and levers to apply brake pads to the wheels. Disc brakes
are a newer type of brake that uses a piston and an O ring to apply pressure to the brake pads.
Which in turn creates friction to a rotor that is bolted to the wheel, whereas drum brakes only
apply pressure to the wheel (Stockel, Auto Service 714). These brakes have been used in many
different vehicles as well as used in trailers and motorcycles. Disc brakes are seen in most cars
today throughout the world; though they did not start out as the best brake when they were first
engineered, disc brakes are now the best leading brakes out there because of the quality and
performance level that was engineered into this brake. Before there were any disc brakes, cars
first had drum brakes that were the first engineered brakes to be operational. Anyone who
remembers driving passenger cars with four wheel drum brakes, no doubt remembers their scary
tendency to quit working when wet, or after repeated, hard stops (Richards). Drum brakes have
been around for a very long time, so manufactures have caught most of the problems with drum
brakes. This creating trust between the customers and their brakes on their cars. Then the next big
leap came in the 1970s,

money if he did have any, and told me that I chose to move to Colorado, so I needed to work it
out for myself. I was more than dumbfounded, and wondered if he even believed me or if he
thought I was trying to scheme him for money. Whatever his reasons, I was on my own with no
one and nowhere to go. I was officially homeless and horrified. I refused to make signs for
begging and didn t want to be judged as I had judged others. I did have a little bit of money, but
not enough for a place to live and decided that I would use some of it for the city transit in search
of a new job. Looking for a job was much harder than I anticipated because I didn t have an
address, references or a phone number to be reached at (because it was shut off for lack of
payment). These were the reasons I was unable to completely fill out an application or to be

least how I thought). I knew I had some money left over that I could use for food, and had even

Satire In Harrison Bergeron
The science fiction short story Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut presented views that are
controversial in a satire form. The story had four characters, George Bergeron, Hazel Bergeron,
Harrison Bergeron, Diana Moon Glampers, And The Ballerina. George and Hazel where
Harrisons parents. Diana was the general of the government that took Harrison away from his
parents on April, 2081. George, Harrison s father was a very intelligent person and due to that he
had to wear a device on his ear that disrupted his thought process. His mom Hazel on the other had

Everyone that s born with good looks, or intelligence are automatically but to a disadvantage
with someone born with a mental disability or without the best features because the society in
the story doesn t promote being above average. The government doesn t let you live with what
you are born with and that s not fair because you can t control what traits and abilities you ll be
given in life. This is shown when Vonnegut describes characters reasons for their handicaps.
Inequality is shown when Diana comes into the studio with a double barreled ten gauge shotgun
(Vonnegut 221). How come she doesn t have any handicaps and is an unfair opponent in a
society that supposed to be equal? The society the handicap government has created in Harrison
Bergeron ruins itself through all the things the civilians aren t able to do that doesn t promote
equality in every way shape or form. By giving people handicaps because of how they look,

amounts of money. The case that brought the term affluenza about was the Ethan Couch case. The
case is about how Couch essentially killed four people but got out of doing time in prison because
of money and his inability to make good decisions thanks to his parents and wealth. The author of
this paper believes that Ethan Couch should have gotten harsher sentencing. The sentence should

Affluenza was used as a reason for Couch needing to have his charges lessened, but in looking
through reasons that someone can have their sentence lessened Affluenza was not among them.
The term itself is just a mix of affluence and influenza. Neither of these things would lessen a
sentence in court by itself, and affluenza is not term even used in any courts nor does it hold
weight as a term. Ethan Couch was old enough to make decisions by himself. He would have
known that drinking heavily and driving was a bad decision. If he had just acted his age he
would have either asked someone to drive him of gotten a taxi to go home, and avoided the
whole incident and not had to go to court. He was 16 years old at the time of the case so he
would have known what he did was wrong. The final issue with the term Affluenza is that the
term itself gives rich people the right to say that Affluenza was the cause of their crime. If
Affluenza is to be used as a valid excuse for a crime then other people would be able to create
their own special reason for why they did their crime. Any rich person or semi wealthy person
could say that they or a relative were affected by Affluenza and could get away with the least

Arthur Gayle who all play a role in Toby s development. Each of their identities and characters have
influenced Toby s in ways that strengthen and weaken his own identity and character.
As Toby and his mother, Rosemary, drive to Utah, Rosemary s abusive ex husband, Roy, follows
them there. Roy is an insecure man who is very possessive of Rosemary. However, when Toby
is a young boy, he his view of Roy is manly . Toby s definition of a man is being handsome,

Their first interaction ends with a bad fight between them because Toby calls Arthur a sissy.
After the fight, while people were talking about it, Toby says, The other two boys were excited,
restless, twitching with the blows they d imagined striking. They wanted to talk about the fight,
but I had lost interest in it (111). When Toby was living in Utah or Seattle, he probably wouldn t
have been able to stop talking about the fight because it is one of his qualities as a man .
However, now, Toby lost interest right after the fight showing that what he thought was his
identity, is actually not. As he is growing up, he is becoming less of a man and is starting to
discover his true self. This shows how Arthur plays a role in Toby s development. Another
example of when Arthur affects Toby s development is when they kissed. Toby describes, It
surprised us both (159). This kiss shows their feelings of affection and closeness towards each
other, however; Toby is now afraid that he isn t as masculine or is a sissy like he called Arthur.
This causes Toby to try and act more like a man, however; not according to his definition. He

shows how Arthur affects Toby by kissing him making Toby want to have people look at him as

Light And Darkness In Macbeth Essay
Throughout the play of Macbeth, the aura of darkness and horror is often presented to the audience
in order to give the atmosphere within the play a dark and tragic tone. In the play, the nature of evil
was the theme used by the Shakespeare in Macbeth. He used certain action filled images to
introduce deception and horror throughout the play. The characters in Macbethoften brought about
the images of blood, darkness, and evil. Many scenes in the play gave the audience hints of
occurring supernaturalevents, which in the end would lead to the fall of many, like Macbeth, who
was nothing more than a man full of ambitions that showed no respect for the lives of others.
Shakespeare s uses the images of darkness, blood, and the supernatural to convey the nature of evil.

A scene where blood is seen for the first time is when Macbeth returns with daggers covered with
Duncan s blood. Another scene where blood is seen in the play is where Macbeth hallucinates
seeing a bloody dagger that reminded him of Duncan s murder. Lady Macbeth also has a
frightening encounter with blood during the movie. She has an encounter with a sink pouring out
blood while she is sleepwalking. Lady Macbeth s horrific experience proves that the image of
blood is a great example of making the theme nature of evil true throughout the entire play. Another
dominant image in Macbeth is supernatural elements used to give the play a haunting and dark
atmosphere affect to go along with the theme of Shakespeare. The witches in the play are
considered a supernatural element. In the play, one of the witches shows her supernatural power

sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate will also be calculated.
Introduction
Fossil fuels account for most of the energy used in the country. Petroleum, coal, and natural gas are
not the only resources that we have. Problems arise from harming the sun s radiation. The threat of
global warming is becoming more well known so scientists are trying to discover safer alternatives

Control Episode Of House Summary
Ethics, rational, and the right thing to do are words or phrases that appear throughout the Control
episode of House. These words all come back to the same general understand that sometimes what
is the right thing to do is not ethical. There are times where the only solution for good is by doing
unethical things. Throughout this episode there were several examples of ethical philosophies
noted. Rawls s veil of ignorance, Mill s utilitarianism, and Aristotle and Confucius s golden mean
were all present, but it was Machiavelli ethicsthat were most present throughout the episode. The
first of the ethical philosophy that was seen in this episode of housewas seen when we are
introduced to the brand new chairman of the board, Edward Vogler.

In this theory, Rawls tries to put people in to the thought process of another. By trying to
understand someone else s perspective, the ideal is that the vulnerable will become the priority.
As soon as Vogler sees Dr. House, he assumes that he can size him up. Once he has done that and
reviewed the numbers of the cost compared to the results, he assumes that Dr. House and his
team are dead weight. However, this is the principle of the veil of ignorance in practice. Vogler
cannot put himself into the shoes of the patients and family of those who Dr. House heals,
instead he thinks in terms of business. Due to this, Vogler fails to see the ethical side of what
Dr. House does. Again, we see this idea of ethics pop up as Cuddy talks to Dr. House. When she
asked him why it is seen as an admiral thing to do to ignore ethics to save one person, but you are

The Management Of Coarse Fisheries Of Lakes And Rivers...
Introduction:
The aim of this literature review is to determine why set of structured points or methodology for
the management of coarse fisheries of lakes and rivers within the UK, is the best way forward to
achieve a good ecological status of surface water bodies in the UK. The following critical
literature review will attempt to explain why achieving a good ecological status is necessary, what
it is and why being applied to fisheries with UK is the most practical approach, the themes
examined will be:
1.Fisheries within the UK and their significance
2.Good ecological status as per legislation requirements and for socio economic and cultural
benefits.
3.Mitigation measures.

Other uses involve fisheries for harvesting of fish, such as salmon farms. In 1994 there were an
estimated 0.8 million game anglers and 2.3 million coarse anglers. (Peirson, Tingley, Spurgeon,
Radford, 2001, p.416). Annual expenditure on all items related to angling/fishing involved the
purchasing of rod licences from the Environment Agency, tackle, bait, and permits on private lakes
as well as travel by anglers, in 1994, the total was estimated to be approximately ВЈ3 Billion (Moon
and Souter, 1994). By 2005 approximately thirty million days were fished by anglers on UK
fisheries which was substantially more than the year 2000 (Mawle, Peirson, 2009, p.44.) This
increase in angling activity increases competition between fisheries to ensure that the best quality
stocks of fish are available for anglers.
It is estimated by (Girdler, Wellby, Welcomme, 2010, p.3) that approximately 90% of the still
water bodies in the UK may be privately owned and marketed or operated as fisheries. Whilst
running as a privately owned fishery this could mean the fishery ends up removed from the direct
influence of significant regulating bodies such as conservation, freshwater scientists and regulators
like the Environment Agency, thus emphasising the role that fishery managers must independently
regulate the aquatic environment of their freshwater body. One of the main reasons as to why it is
so significant to

Renoir s Luncheon of the Boating Party Essay examples
Luncheon of the Boating Party Luncheon of the Boating Party is a European artwork painted in
1880 1881 by French Impressionist, Pierre Auguste Renoir. In traditional Impressionist style,
Renoir depicted a scene from modern life and based it in a place he knew well the Restaurant
Fournaise. Chatou was one of Renoir s beloved settings and Luncheon of the Boating Party is a
romanticized portrait of his friends enjoying a Sunday afternoon on the balcony of the restaurant.
His intention was to take a normal scene and create a modern day party that portrayed the youth and
beauty of his friends. The arrangement of Luncheon of the Boating Party represents a relatively
new Impressionist movement as well as the changing character of French... Show more content on

But even the men in the white tank tops with more flesh exposed, their hats are fine, and their
body language is relaxed and do not portray that of a servant. I noticed the sail and row boats in
the distance, the women surrounding the table; laughter, wine and company, and obvious
friendship, but maybe also boredom. Was this a pre or post boating trip as the title hints? Was
this painting staged, or maybe even a band and live music playing to the side? After closely
looking over the portrait, what is most interesting to me is that contrary to the large number of
people in the painting, no one s gazes meet, showing no connections between the people, although
most are smiling. Wave After doing research on this portrait, I find that the setting of Luncheon of
the Boating Party is at the upstairs terrace of the Masion Fournaise restaurant on an island in the
Seine at Chatou. The painting conveys a casual and contemporary gathering of people sharing
food, wine, and conversation on a balcony overlooking the Seine. The people in Renoir s
paintings are actually personal friends of his. The woman in the lower left is Aline Charigot,
Renoir s future wife. Charigot was clearly painted with the most detail and coloring, and holds the
most presence in the painting which could be a hint as to Renoir s fancy of her. Standing behind
her, leaning on the railing, is Alphonse Fournaise, the son of the restaurant s owner. In the

Analysis Of The Film Tomboy And The Picture Book And Tango...
To be normal is something that one aspires to be. Being normal gives one the feeling of
acceptance and of belonging. In a world full of billions of people one just wants to fit in. This is
especially true for a young person. What young person does not want to be considered normal?
That being said, what does being normal truly look like? Furthermore, how is it defined in
certain places? What is considered to be normal at home and school? To be considered normal
does one have to have a family that consists of a Mom and Dad and siblings and a dog. What
about at school? Does being normal mean one is a good student who has lots of friends who
share the same interests. Then what happens to those young people who do not share these
similar life experiences? Are they then not considered normal? Where do they fit in and to what
do they belong to? This essay will reexamine what it means to be normal in today s world. By
looking at the film Tomboy and the picture book And Tango Makes Three
normalcy will be
challenged in the contexts of the family, at school and within oneself.

The Theory Of Folk Psychology
Eliminative materialism (eliminativism) is an ontologically radical approach that claims that a
matured cognitive science will show that mental states that common sense takes for granted, such
as beliefs, do not exist (or do not have referents). Instead, it claims that these mental entities are
theoretical terms for the false theory of folk psychology(common sense psychology), which can be
defined as the cognitive ability to explain and predict the behaviour and mental state of other
people. In essence, the theory aims to discredit folk psychology by claiming that people will
discover that there is no neural basis to mental entities and thus, they are non existent. I shall argue
that there are significant fundamental flaws to both the arguments for eliminativism about
propositional attitudes and eliminativism about qualia (subjective experience). For the former, I
will argue that the eliminative materialist s theory theory is flawed and show that propositions
alone can discredit the position on philosophy of mind. This will lead to identifying the position as
self refuting. Furthermore, I will show that science itself has proven simulation theory to be true so
that I can discredit eliminative materialism. For the latter, I will argue that qualia exist due to
introspection. Combined, the deconstruction of eliminative materialism with regards to
propositional attitudeand qualia will show that the materialist position is flawed and should not be
agreed with.

Robert Frost Poem Analysis
When looking at both Robert Frost s and Emily Dickinson s poems about darkness and night,
several things are brought to light. This includes the different point of views provided by the
speaker, the imagery left for the reader to depict, the structure of each poem, and how both poems
connect to each other. In each of the two poems, the speakers have contrasting opinions on the idea
of darkness and the night. In Emily Dickinsons poem, the speaker presents themself with optimism
within the phrases, The Bravest grope a little / And sometimes hit a Tree/ Directly in the

Suddenly they have reached the end of the city limits where everything past them is polluted by
the darkness of the night. The imagery in both of these poems is very strong. In terms of the two
poem s structure, there are different literary elements at play as well as creative uses of the poem s
set up. In both of the two poems there are occasional rhymes, but no set rhyme scheme. As for
punctuation in the two, there seems to be no pattern. In Emily Dickinson s poem she uses
hyphens to show an unfinished thought at the end of a line or within a line. In Robert Frost s
poem he uses a variety of literary elements to get his story across to his intended audience. One
of the literary elements that he uses is anaphora, the repetition of a word, phrase, or clause at the
beginning of two or more sentences in a row. Additionally, Robert Frost uses personification, a
figure of speech in which something nonhuman is given human characteristics. This is present
when the speaker says, I have looked down the saddest city lane. (l 4) This is an example of
personification because the act or emotion of sadness is a human one that can not be expressed by
a city lane. With all of this in mind, it is easy to conclude that the structure of the two poems are
irregular. While analyzing the context of the two poems and their connection to each other, it is
important to remember the central theme of darkness and of the night. Both poems have a heavy

The Between Greek And Egyptian Civilizations
The Earth has been around for a long time. Humans have been around for a long time. America
has been around for a long time. However, these long times are on vastly different timescales, and
are not even close to being comparable to each other. To human minds, however, it would seem as
though anything beyond the scope of their lifetime blends into a series of events on a page. The
years before their birth sticking together into an amalgam of history, distorted beyond recognition.
We place prominence on events which have taken place recently, while discounting the vast eons

What Are The Pros And Cons Of A Buy Nothing Day Consumerism
In 1992, Canada organized a day on which people are urged to make no purchases. The idea
behind this Buy Nothing Day is to increase citizen awareness of environmental and ethical
consequences that come with too much consumerism; however, many feel it will severely hurt
small businesses. Nevertheless, the concept behind a day without spending is a great way to
control consumer rates as long as those who choose to partake are prepared to go a whole day
with no transactions. Before discussing the pros of a Buy Nothing Day, we must understand the
reason why it can be beneficial. Consumerism, the purchase of goods or services, is typically seen
as a fantastic way to boost the economy but everything has a limit. Excessive consumerism, or the
act of buying too many goods and services, can become a major issue for any economic system.
For instance, in the 1920 s there was a huge economic boom which created a consumer revolution.

These funds were raised in 2010 and by the time the inquiries began many of the 2010 ARC staff

itself in a quandary as it sought to address the questions and accusations being hurled (Welch,

$119k was actually given to victims and $60K was used to restock inventories. This account still

America Is Not Universally Free Essay
America is not universally free. This is easily proven with examples from a variety of subjects.
For example, take LGBT rights. De jure, gay marriage is legal nationwide. But de facto, when
one looks at the social reality dealt with by people who are not heterosexual, one finds that not
everyone has the realistic ability to do so. Even on a de jurelevel, there are the bathroom bills,
passed by North Carolina and looked at by many states, designed to limit transgender people s
ability to use the bathroom. But even if one deals with that, and all of the other issues of systematic
discrimination faced by modern America race, class, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, etc. on
both a de jure and de factolevel, America would still not be universally free. What do I mean by
this? Well, firstly I need to be entirely clear about what I mean by freedom. The Oxford English
Dictionary defines freedom as the state or fact of being free from servitude, constraint,
inhibition, etc.; liberty. This is true; however, any reasonable person can determine that that
does not even begin to cover what freedom really means. There is emotional value in the word
that simply cannot be captured by such a clinical definition. When I say freedom, what I really
mean is the reasonable ability to make choices about one s own actions and one s own life. This
does not have to be free from consequence, but it has to be a reasonable possibility on a de facto
level. What exactly a

business ventures have emerged leading to more jobs (Durkin, 2014). Legalization would
require some costs to regulate however, the cost currently to regulate tobacco and alcohol are
far less than what is being spent to enforce the control on illegal drugs (Caulkins et al., 2014).
Marijuana accounts for a large part of drug arrests and a large amount of money goes toward

The Television Show South Park
The difference between the intended meaning of media texts and what the audience actually
perceives can be shockingly different. Producers of media can do everything possible to force
audiences to experience their work in the way they want them to, but in the end they still take away
many different meanings even within the same audience. Stuart Hall outlines this in his encoding
and decoding model. One of the most apparent examples of this is the television show South Park.
The television show South Park is a media text with the producers preferred meaning of being
decoded as joke or as being satire, but many audience members take an oppositional stance of
taking it seriously. This is clear from the examples of controversy when South Park aired
episodes focused on Scientology, red headed people, and Islam. Through these examples it is
demonstrated that the producers of media have less power compared to the audience in
determining the meaning of media. In Hall s encoding and decoding model he argues that
encoding and decoding the meaning of media is not a single sided process but one shared by both
the producers and the audience. The producers encode their preferred meaning into the media using
frameworks of knowledge, relations of production, and technical infrastructure (Hall, 1997).
Frameworks of knowledge are the producers beliefs and what they assume about the audience s
beliefs. Relations of production are the needs of the financial side of the industry. Technical

Dating Advice From A Teenage Girl
Dating advice from a teenage girl s perspective
These few words will focus more on dating tips and a couple of recommendations, since personally
I ve been seeing many relationship mistakes over and over again that can be easily avoided.
Therefor I created a very easy check list that are essential of a perfect date reminding not only guys
but as well as girls.
1.Be Respectful Your date would wantto feel cared about and not treated like an object, I suggest
treat him or her how you would want to be treated. Remind yourself first, what is that you are
looking for in a guy or gal, make sure who you re with and avoid choosing the wrong person.
2. Like always, Be yourself!
Your date decided to go out with you for a reason and not someone else. Whatever you do to
mislead them into another type you are not can come back and to bite you later. Ask your friends
what they have to say such as feedback, of course they might be jealous of a relationship but your
true friends would be honest and work through things.
3. Dress like a youngman or classy girl If your going out dress nicer than what you would
normally wake up to on a lazy weekend, this doesn t mean you can t have your style on the
contrary, be have your own style and individuality. Tip! Make sure your clothes are always ironed,
and spray a bit of your favorite fragrance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s always a good way to start a conversation. If it s your first date with them I suggest not going
to the movies unless there is a plan to meet before on a dinner date, it helps so that she won t ask
much on the expensive movie concession stand. Don t forget to compliment them, they took time to
look their best, some girls take up to hours to look confident I m pretty sure they would love to hear
how beautiful they look with or without any makeup. Girls remember guys don t wear makeup,
they internally melt of love when you say how handsome and charming they look.

Minimum Cleanliness Level The Oil
The industries standard for this are set by ISO standards. The minimum cleanliness level the oil
must have is ISO 18/16/13. Each number in this number code represents the maximum allowable
number of particles in the oil greater than 2 microns, 5 microns, and 15 microns in size
respectively. Hard to implement in our design (can t justify this concisely) not really necessary?
The filtration system configuration can be seen below in Figure 4. The pump draws the oil out of
the sump and through a prefilter. It then positively directs the oil towards the solenoid valve which
directs it through one of the two parallel filtration systems. Each filtration system is equipped
with a 10 micron filter and two 4 micron filters set in a parallel configuration. The oil then passes
through the 10 micron filter which will remove all particles of 10 microns in size or greater. The
oil then enters a flow divider valve which properly diverts the oil to two separate 4 micron filters
for further oil cleansing. Likewise, the 4 micron filters will remove all particles of 4 microns or
greater. From here, the oil flows through a check ball valve to ensure no backflow into the filters.
This is necessary due to the merging of the two parallel 4 micron filters. After leaving the first filter
configuration the oil is then directed towards the cooling system. However before it reaches the
cooler, it passes an alternate route towards the bypass filtration system. This system does not
circulate

What Makes Good People Do Bad Thing Analysis
Good vs. Evil is often seen by many people as the foundation to many conflicts. Many also often
assume that one side of a conflict is right and good, and the other wrong and evil. Good and evil
go hand in hand. Depending on the environment, good people can get caught up in some very bad
things. Good people do bad things because of desperation, religion, and peer pressure.
In the article What Makes Good People Do Bad Things by Melissa Dittmann it briefly explains the
Stanford Prison Experiment. Students took the role of being either a guard or prisoner. During the
experiment the guards began to abuse their power and take advantage of the prisoners. Many of the
prisoners had emotional breakdowns. This experiment showed that any human being can quickly
submit to evil in the right environment. What pushes good people to their limit to do evil choices?
With the right environment even the holiest people who got to church every Sunday, pay their
tithes, don t steal, and treat others the way they want to be treated can do evil things.
Being desperate is a cause of making good people commit evil choices. Being desperate can leave
you feeling tired and hopeless. Desperation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Informative Essay On Alcatraz
If I said: It s the site of the first lighthouse on the West Coast and was once a fortress, would you
know what famous California landmark I was referring to?
Now, what if I included the following details: It has been the subject of numerous books, movies,
and much speculation. Al Capone was one of its first guests. Burt Lancaster starred in a movie that
was set, in part, here.
Naturally, I m talking about Alcatraz Island or The Rock as it s also known. Over a million
visitors go to Alcatraz annually, but few arrive knowing the island s complete history. I was one of
the people surprised to learn that Alcatraz was more than a former federal penitentiary.
Alcatraz was initially a military prison. During the Civil War, Confederate sympathizers and
persons accused of treason were held here. In the late 1890s, nineteen Hopi men were incarcerated
for resisting laws intended to wipe out their culture. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alcatraz was considered the prison system s prison, a secure facility where dangerous felons could
be housed. The Rock s notorious prisoners included Al Capone and Robert Stroud (whom Burt
Lancaster played in the Birdman of Alcatraz).
The Rock has the distinction, albeit contested, of being the only prison that no one has ever
successfully escaped from. In 1963, three inmates escaped from Alcatraz. The men were never
seen again and prison officials claimed that the men died in the cold waters of the San Francisco Bay
. The families of the prisoners, however, claimed that they survived.
A visit to Alcatraz will demonstrate the difficulty of escape and the complexities of the plot to do
so. You ll be able to view the paper mache heads, constructed from toilet paper and cement mix, the

The Mandatory Minimum Sentencing Laws
Abstract Ben Whishaw once said, The criminal justice system, like any system designed by human
beings, clearly has its flaws. For many years, the criminal justice system has been criticized for its
many problems and errors; one in particular that caught my attention was the mandatory minimum
sentencing laws. These laws basically set minimum sentences for certain crimes that judges cannot
lower, even for extenuating circumstances. The most common of these laws deal with drug offenses
and set mandatory minimum sentences for possession of a drug over a certain amount. Sentencing
procedures can vary from jurisdiction to Jurisdiction. Most of these laws are ineffective and causes
unnecessary jail overcrowding. Over the years... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, there was a case back in 2013 in Alabama where a 76 year old man, Lee Carroll
Brooker, was convicted of drug trafficking last year, and a judge sentenced him to life without
parole because of past robbery convictions in Florida. His son was also convicted. ( Roy Moore:
Life Sentence for Drug Violation Shows grave Flaw in Sentencing. AL.com. N.p., n.d. Web. 04
Dec. 2015.) Brooker lived with his son in Houston County, and court documents show police
found a marijuana growing operation there during a search in 2013. Alabama Chief Justice Roy
Moore released a statement on this case as the Supreme Court refused to overturn the case. I
mean really, this is just crazy how a petty drug offense can get a man life in prison and some
other fool is let off easy, after committing an armed robbery. The problem with LSD specifically
is that it comes in many forms. For instance, if a person is holding 1 hit of liquid LSD that is
placed on a strawberry can get up to 10 years in jail whereas another person with 100 hits of acid
in paper form may not even get a mandatory sentence if it weighs under a gram. The whole point
behind the legislation comes in response to the American public s desire to crack down on those
who sell drugs. According to The USCC (U.S. Sentencing Commission), fifty five percent of all
federal drug defendants are low level offenders, such as mules or street dealers.

A Brief History of Courtship and Dating in America
A Brief History of Courtship and Dating in America, Part 1 [pic]by The Rev d Skip Burzumato [pic]
Whenever possible, I love to use the word courtship in everyday conversation with young and old
alike.
It s one of those words with which most people are familiar, but have vastly differing opinions of
what it means. For many, courtship is an old fashioned word. It summons visions of men wooing
women with small tokens of affection and asking their hand in marriage on bended knee. For social
scientists, studies of courtship usually look at the process of mate selection. (Social scientists,
among whom I number myself from time to time, will never be accused of being romantics.)
For the purpose of this article the preparation for and proposal ... Show more content on

They knew what was normal. Prior to the 20th century, normal was determined within families and
local communities, but now a higher authority, with wide spread circulation and readership, began
to form a national consciousness.
Thirdly, we see a change in sexual norms in the West. With the onset of the sexual revolution the
question arose, Why would a man court and woo a woman when he could gain a chief benefit of
marriage, namely sexual gratification, for free with no commitment? (Friendship with benefits is a
contemporary example.)
Closely related to this is the invention of birth control. There is too much that could be said here,
so I ll be brief. Simply put, with the onset of the widespread use of chemical and other means of
birth control, the language of procreation of having children was separated from the language of
marriage. As U. of Chicago ethicist Leon Kass argues in his chapter on courtship in Building a
Healthy Culture: Strategies for an American Renaissance, under the old system of courtship,
marriage and bringing a child into the world were inextricably linked. But no longer. With the ever
decreasing risk of pregnancy, having sex and being married were no longer tied together.
Fourthly, we find a change in the models and metaphors used to describe the home and family. Prior

Overview Of The Jinn
Introduction
The topic of Jinn in Islam is definitely a fascinating one, as man has an innate curiosity about the
supernatural and unseen. Unfortunately, this topic is also one that is replete with misconceptions.
This essay will explore the world of the Jinn through the Qur aan and authentic Sunnah.
Creation and Existence of Jinn
The Jinn possess some characteristics of human beings, such as the ability to think and reflect and
the ability to choose between good and evil, but they are different in their origin and creation. We
are informed by Allah that the Jinn are created from fire:
And the jinn, We have created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire. (Qur aan 55:27)

I struggle with him.
And if he does it again?
The student said, I struggle with him.
The teacher said, What would you do if you passed by some sheep and the sheepdog kept barking
at you and kept you from continuing on your way?
He replied, I would keep on until I drove him off.
The teacher said, You should ask the shepherd s help in keeping the dog away from you!
This analogy teaches us the best way to protect oneself: by seeking refuge and protection in Allah.
We are equipped with many weapons against Shaytaan and the Jinn in general from the Sunnah.
These include being in constant remembrance of Allah, seeking refuge in Allah before entering the
bathroom, reciting the Qur aan or sleeping, as well as the last two Surahs of the Qur aan and Ayatul
Kursi.
Conclusion
The world of the Jinn is one which is both sinister and intriguing. Knowing about it can explain
many of the mysteries of the seen world. By learning the monotheism of Allah, we defend ourselves
from these hidden allies of

Looking For Advice Research Paper
One of the biggest mistakes people make when looking for advice is seeking it from only one
person. Getting multiple opinions on a certain decision or situation could be the difference
between a complete disaster taking place or a relieving solution. Some advice that others give
happens to be useless and irrational, but if someone seeks more than one opinion, he or she could
avoid bad advice by following the good instead. More opinions equals more options. Seeking
multiple opinions is beneficial for you, and others too, because everyone has a different mindset, it
can prevent bad decisions, and even helps a person make better choices in the future. To begin with,
every human in the world has a different mindset. Some think deeply, some think simply. We are
all different from the way we dress to the way we draw stick people. With different mindsets
comes different perspectives, or ways to look at a situation. Some people may think something is
wrong while... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If someone was to ask only one person for advice, he or she may receive bad guidance. Good advice
isn t always guaranteed. If someone was to follow bad guidance, they are at risk for making a
terrible decision. But if that person looks for more opinions, instead of jumping to conclusions
with the bad advice, he or she could find a better solution to the the problem at hand. No matter
the situation, anyone can find understanding people to listen and share opinions with. Listening
to these opinions can have a great influence on the effect of the problem. For example, if Sam
had to decide between buying a brand new car and a used one, he could ask his friends what
their opinions are. Some people may say to buy the new car because it will last him longer. Others
could advise him to purchase the used one to help him financially. Everyone has different opinions
and beliefs, so it is always beneficial to explore these

Ultrasound Essay
Ultrasound is a therapeutic modality that uses vibrations which are produced mechanically at a
higher frequency than sound waves. These waves are referred to as ultrasonic as they are unable
to be heard by humans (Robertson et al, 2006). The success of the use of ultrasound has been
recorded as early as the 1930 s, when in Berlin, sciatica in patients had been shown to have
improved greatly. This evidently resulted in further research and new treatment methods being
created (Stanley, 1958). Since then a lot of research has been carried out and advances in the use of
ultrasoundhas been made and are continuing to be made all the time. The effects of ultrasound in
rehabilitation will be researched and examined to understand its effectiveness.... Show more content

Healing of pressure sores have also improved through the application of ultrasound at a low
intensity (Williams, 1968). There have however been reports suggesting that ultrasound can
increase the size of ulcers following treatment as the intensity was excessively higher than required,
contradicting William s theory (Harvey and Elphick, 1969). It has been suggested that the
application of ultrasound at a low dose can increase degranulation of mast cells and the release of
histamine accelerating the acute inflammation phase. It can also reduce the amount of fluid being
released from the capillaries following injury and collagen synthesis can be increased during the
repair process (Denegar, Saliba and Saliba, 2006). If there is more exposure than required it can
result in a breakdown of tissues and can increase the acute inflammatory response for a longer
period of time, resulting in the patient suffering with their injury longer than the average healing
time. Baker and Robertson (2001) came to the conclusion that therapeutic ultrasound may not be
more effective than placebo ultrasound for pain, musculoskeletal disorders or soft tissue healing.
However many researchers and practitioners continue to believe that ultrasound has many beneficial
effects and from their books and journals evidence can be found to further their theories. The author
has also come to the conclusion that when applied correctly ultrasound can treat a range of

Reflection On Multicultural Counseling
Starting this course in August, I didn t realize the power that multicultural counseling had instilled
in it. The fact that its central focus is around social justice and equality is a characteristic our
society much needs today. Throughout the duration of this class, I learned about multicultural
counseling as a whole, new theories that can be applied specifically to different racial/ethnic
minorities, the ACA code of ethics, and who I wantto be as a future counselor.
In the beginning of the course I had very little knowledge about the theories in multicultural
counseling. I knew that it was centrally focused around social justice and equality but I didn t know
there were theories that pertained to specific ethnic minorities. I also learned that there isn t a
one size fits all theory. What I learned was that each model needs to be unique to the client and
very well rounded; it should include a specific goal(s), describe the process, have both aspects of
cognition and emotion, and include justice and equity as well. (Jun 2010) I have learned that as a
multicultural counselor you have to be very aware and mindful of your thoughts and actions. I
learned that there is a lot that is integrated into multicultural counseling and it isn t cut and dry.
There are varieties of concepts, such as being aware of oppression, continuous self reflection,
awareness of impact that a multicultural counselor can have on an individual, etc. (Jun, 2010) I was
happy to read that social

Monsters in Horror Horror as a genre has been around for centuries, installing itself into diverse
and new areas of our entertainment to keep itself relevant. The horror genre as a whole feeds off
our fears and our imagination, which often leads us to be hyper vigilant of our surroundings. The
entirety of the horror genre is a multimillion dollar industry, with horror films accumulating about
5% in market shares over the past 15 years. Films such as World War Z (2013) grossed
approximately $202,000,000, with other popular films such as What Lies Beneath (2000) grossing
$155,000,000, and Gremlins (1984) grossing $148,000,000 (Top US Grossing Horror Films). Even

Catharsis was theorized by the Greek philosopher Aristotle, in which he believed we purge our
negative emotions and thoughts via the portrayal of other situations and circumstances (Walters,
2004). By viewing violent and graphic footage, which is often what horror films consist of, it is
believed that the person will purge their violent tendencies and thoughts while watching a horror
film, resulting in a lower likelihood of acting on violent tendencies. However, it has equally been
posited that such graphic images will increase the aggressive tendencies in the viewer (Walters,
2004). So, although catharsis is a theory of why we watch horror films, there is no way to discern
whether there is a correlation or not between watching horror films and lowering one s aggression

Analysis Of Where The Red Fern Grows
Cherish these moments tomorrow they ll be memories ,pinterest said and has a deep meaning to
the story Where the Red Fern Grows. In the story Where the Red Fern Grows the theme is to
cherish those close to you before it s too late. The story is also a good lesson to learn because
you never know when someone vital to your life may die so cherish them while you have them.
This quote from pinterest fits the theme of the story because when Old Dan and Little Ann
almost died Billy felt like he should ve loved them more when they were alive. Without that time
in the story the story would be completely different. This is a wise quote because when Billy got
his dogs after working so hard to get them he knew that once he got the dogs he would remember
how he got his dogs forever. That was one of the most important parts in the story and without
them the story would be different. Since the part is in the story now the part makes a huge
impact on the book and that is why that supports my quote and theme. In the story there were
several moments that Billy would remember for the rest of his life . Billy had multiple lessons he
had learned through the course of his life so far, and there will still be many more lessons to
come. There are other pieces to this story that are important to the story. There is one part in the
story where Little Ann and Old Dan nearly died from the winter storm. Without that time in the
story the story would have changed dramatically. Who knows whether

  • 2. Gallup Summary Gallup, New Mexico, is a border town just outside the Navajo Nation reservation with an estimated 22,000 residents; however, that number nearly triples on the first of the month. Social Security checks are distributed to elders and veterans on the first of the month, and most tribal members have neither access to a local bank nor sufficient consumer spending options on the reservation. Therefore, most Navajos end up driving for an hour or more to purchase much needed groceries, lumber, auto parts, and kid s school clothes in border towns such as Gallup. According to the University of New MexicoBureau of Business and Economic Analysis study, significant competition for retail dollars from the Navajo Nationis spread among several surrounding... And, third, the absences of thriving economies, characterized by a sufficient number of privately and publically owned businesses in Indian Country, adds to the impoverishment of Indians and their families. Although the trust land issue is not specifically emphasized by Miller, this article focuses on trust land as a primary impediment for entrepreneurs who want to start up small businesses or pursue entrepreneurial endeavors on the Navajo reservation. Because Navajo land is held in trust, the United States government has legal ownership of the land, and tribes and individual Indians are merely beneficial owners. Selling and leasing Navajo land, even for community development, must be approved by the United States. In his article, Ending the Curse of Trust, noted tribal entrepreneur Lance Morgan says: Trust status hurts individual American Indians. It prevents us from using our land as collateral, which has effectively killed Native owned agriculture. [*181] This system left us with almost no choice but to lease out our land, primarily to non Indians. That s why we are land rich, but still dirt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Disadvantages Of Tidal Energy Britney 2015/12/16 Tidal Energy Tidal Energy Introduction Climate change refers to any long term change in Earth s climate, or in the climate of a region or city. This includes warming, cooling and changes besides temperature. (NASA Oct.2011) Earth is going through the climate change of global warming. Climate change is causing a big threat that would cause great catastrophe to the world and this problem will influence everyone around the world. These changes are caused by the greenhouse gases which are produced when burning fossil fuels and transportation. When fossil fuels are burned, they generate a fair amount of energy for people, but at the same time, produce large amounts of pollution that damages our Earth. To slow down climate change, we need to start making changes and shift our sole energy source from burning fossil fuels to an alternative renewable energy source. While tidal energy is an interesting technology and is capable of providing us a carbon free society, but it can never generate enough energy to reduce the burning of fossil fuels because of the massive cost for the project and there is limited places in the world to install the technology. What is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tidal energy is converted based on the movements of tides. Tidal poweris the result of Earth s rotation combined with the sun and moon s gravity. The tides come mostly from the Moon s gravity and a little from the Sun s gravity. So as the Earth rotates, the ocean surface rises and falls. Compared to nuclear reserves or fossil fuels, the resource of tidal energy will not run out or end unless the sun and moon does. Usually, there are two high tides and two low tides each day. With all the water moving up and down, we can capture the kinetic energy from the tides. It works just like wind turbine except ocean tides turn the blades instead of wind. (Climate Kids, ... • 4. Interpreting the Constitution Introduction Ever since its inception, one of the High Court s primary duties has been to interpret the Australian Constitution. There have been many methodologies used to do so and many schools of thought (have been adopted by different judges) in approximately the last hundred years, but so far there still isn t one consistent and cohesive way of interpretation . In this essay three types of options or methodologies that have been more commonly used by High Court judges will be discussed. They include: literalism/legalism, originalism and progressivism. Other options that may be considered by the High Court will also be examined in this paper. Literalism/Legalism Since the Engineers Case 1920, the Australian High Court has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By using literalism/legalism the Court will be able to understand and decipher what a text means and using a legal context of traditions and principles will guide the High Court in making their decision . This is also the most commonly used method of interpreting a statute, therefore applicable to the Constitution . Using originalism will give the High Court an understanding about the historical context, which is important in the process of interpretation and could sometimes be valuable in deciding the meaning . As today s world is filled with new technology and advancements, there has to be some progressivism when interpreting the Constitution to enable it to last indefinitely . In using progressivism, the Court needs to be mindful not to divert excessively from the essence of the Constitution. This hybrid option could be the method that will give the High Court more cohesion and consistency by having pre set laws or rules that can be applied to multiple types of cases because they would be relevant. It may appear that using three methods may introduce may introduce conflicting opinions and inconsistency. On the contrary this may be overcome by the High Court using all three approaches in every case to make an appropriate determination. For instance, the Court should examine the literal and ... • 5. The Evolution Of Tetra Pods It is often debated which species share common ancestors, in particular, how closely related amphibians, mammals and osteichthyes are. The evolution of tetra pods, or four legged animals, from aquatic animals such as fish can be traced back 365 million years ago to the Devonian, 408 360, mya, and evidence shows that this evolution was divergent in nature (Freeman, S. 2011; Myer, A and Zardoya, R. 2004). Divergent evolution, also sometimes termed adaptive radiation, occurs over many geological times and gives rise to a number of new species that all occupy different habitats and show characteristics that assist in survival and reproduction under their natural selection pressures (Kinear, J.F. 2000). Variations in these essential survival ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2011). Different organisms can evolve in similar ways even if they are not similar by descent from a common ancestor and this is known as homoplasy (Hawks, J. 2005). Classification of animals is an important field of biology, as new knowledge about genetics, anatomy and evolutionary relationships often leads to new thoughts on how different groups of organisms are related. In the biological systems of classification, all organisms are divided and classed into increasingly specific groups, starting with the kingdom, and finally being classed down to their genus and species (Huxley, L; Watter, M. 2005). Animals are either vertebrates or invertebrates, and this determines what phyla they belong to. All vertebrates, for example are all classed under the chordate phylum, meaning that they all evolved from an ancestor that had a notochord along the back (dorsal) side. Mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians and birds are all chordates. Studies on vertebrates have revealed that progressive evolutionary adaptations, such as improved respiration, efficient reproduction and paired muscular appendages enabled the vertebrates to survive in a wider range of habitats and on land. The development of the earliest vertebrates and the transition from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay on Economic Effects of the Black Plague in England The high middle ages from the eleventh to the fourteenth century saw the reemergence of urban life, the revival of long distance commerce, innovation, maturation of manorial agriculture, and a burgeoning population. Consequently, the fourteenth century spawned war, famine, disease and economic decay, leading to what many historians believe to be the end of the Middle Ages. Although there were many contributing factors such as famine, collapsing institutions and war. Many historians believe the arrival of the Black Deathto Englandin 1348 was the final straw, and the most impactful agent of change in that area. With depopulation, agricultural and commerce reform and labor force alterations, the effects of the Black Death in England were dramatic and placed the course of the English economy on a new path. To gain perspective on the level of economic change in England, it is important to note and understand the population trends, as it had a directly impacted all aspects of change in regards to the economic effects of the Black Plague. In simple terms, the number of people had a direct impact on the most basic categories of the economy: production and consumption. An expanding population is only possible if it has the economic resources to support it. It seems the Black Death s impact on population levels actually created a silver lining based on the Malthusian Theory where English scholar Thomas Malthus claims, [t]hat the superior power of population is repressed, and the actual population kept equal to the means of subsistence, by misery and vice. As England was experiencing overpopulation, there was not enough agricultural production to support the masses, but as the force of the Black Death swept in and decimated the population, it left England with abundance of land and less people to support, resulting in a balance between agricultural productivity and consumption. Although the Black Plague created shock, panic and fear for a few years, this alteration in population left survivors with an optimistic outlook ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Conflict Between India And Pakistan The conflict in Kashmir appears to most as a bilateral territorial conflict between India and Pakistan. The roots of the conflict are often traced back to August 1947, when the erstwhile British India was partitioned into two new nation states India and Pakistan. The foundation of the Islamic Republic of Pakistanwas the Two Nation theory propounded by Mohammed Ali Jinnah s, the Leader of the All India Muslim League till August 1947, and then the first Governor General of Pakistan. The demand for a separate independent state for Muslims living in British India was founded on the apprehension that they shall be prejudiced against in the Hindu majority state of India. As per the said Two Nation theory, all such states and provinces where the majority of the population was Muslim were to become a part of Pakistan after the British withdrew from India, and the new nation state of Pakistan was created. The independence and the accompanying partition of Indiawere affected through the Indian Independence Act 1947 (hereinafter the Act ). As per the provisions of the Act, the territories of the British India were to be divided into India and the new State of Pakistan. The division of the territories was in accordance with religious demography of the constituent states. At that time, there were 562 Princely States in the British India, which were nominally sovereign monarchies under a local or regional ruler in a subsidiary alliance with the British Crown. • 8. The Importance Of Weather In Literature Angelina Blackwell AP Literature and Composition Mrs. Smith 9/20/17 Weather can influence many things in literature. It can influence the mood, plot, characters, setting. Foster makes it very clear to us that an author will never put weather into a story with no reasoning behind it. Weather is not just simply a setting in literature. The author begins the chapter It s More Than Just Rain or Snow by explaining what mood the quote It was a dark and stormy night creates. He explains how weather is never placed in a story for no reason. Weather is a factor used to create a mood in the passage. A sunny day with no clouds in sight... will create a happy mood while the reader could be imagining themselves in the story being outside on a beautiful clear day with the sunshine hitting them just right. That could put anyone in a cheerful mood, right? If the author started a story with The rain was beating down on the roof as I realized it had been my first night without him... . Now obviously if the character had just lost someone they would be sad but adding rain to the scene adds the effect of sadness and allows the reader jump in the book to feel what the character is feeling. When meeting characters in the beginning of novels, the author can add how they perceive weather to let the readers get a feel for how observing they are. If the character pays no mind to the weather the reader may see that had acted as ignorant. Chapter 10 elaborates on how weather can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During World War I, 10 million people across Europe died fighting for what they believed in. WWI lasted for four years between 1914 and 1918. Millions of soldiers around the world fought for what they believed in hopes of bettering their homelands and protecting their allies. People were happy to support their country in hopes of new opportunities and better resources. Soldiers predicted the war would be over in six months, but they soon realized World War I would last almost half a decade in the trenches. Two major alliances, Triple Entente and Triple Alliance were created in 1907 and 1882. The Triple Entente was formed by France, Russia, and Great Britain and the Triple Alliance was made up of Germany, Austria Hungary, and Italy. These two huge alliances made up of the Central Powers , each stood up for their own men and fought to the death in the battles. In a map titled, European Alliances, the European countries are separated with different colors to show which alliance each country associated themselves with. The countries in black represent the Triple Alliance, and the countries shaded gray make up the Triple Entente in 1914. The white countries with black polka dots show the neutral countries. The map solidifies the claim that alliances were an underlying cause of World War I due to the great contrast in countries directly adjacent to each other. Another example of alliances comes from The Chicago Daily Tribune in the artwork labeled, THE CRIME OF THE AGES. WHO DID IT? by artist, John T. McCutcheon. The image depicts eight European men each wearing a banner of the country they represent and pointing at each other. Behind them is a woman stabbed by a sword with the banner reading ВЁThe Peace of EuropeВЁ and in the top right is a hand pointing at the men. The picture is showing that none of them are willing to admit who started the war. Each man is pointing to another in a different alliance. None of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Disc Brakes Are The Finest Disc Brakes are the Finest Brakes have been around for a few years, and only a couple different types of brakes can be manufactured. The two classifications of brakes are disc brakes and drum brakes. Drum brakes are an older type of brake that uses springs and levers to apply brake pads to the wheels. Disc brakes are a newer type of brake that uses a piston and an O ring to apply pressure to the brake pads. Which in turn creates friction to a rotor that is bolted to the wheel, whereas drum brakes only apply pressure to the wheel (Stockel, Auto Service 714). These brakes have been used in many different vehicles as well as used in trailers and motorcycles. Disc brakes are seen in most cars today throughout the world; though they did not start out as the best brake when they were first engineered, disc brakes are now the best leading brakes out there because of the quality and performance level that was engineered into this brake. Before there were any disc brakes, cars first had drum brakes that were the first engineered brakes to be operational. Anyone who remembers driving passenger cars with four wheel drum brakes, no doubt remembers their scary tendency to quit working when wet, or after repeated, hard stops (Richards). Drum brakes have been around for a very long time, so manufactures have caught most of the problems with drum brakes. This creating trust between the customers and their brakes on their cars. He didn t have any money to send me, wouldn t send me money if he did have any, and told me that I chose to move to Colorado, so I needed to work it out for myself. I was more than dumbfounded, and wondered if he even believed me or if he thought I was trying to scheme him for money. Whatever his reasons, I was on my own with no one and nowhere to go. I was officially homeless and horrified. I refused to make signs for begging and didn t want to be judged as I had judged others. I did have a little bit of money, but not enough for a place to live and decided that I would use some of it for the city transit in search of a new job. Looking for a job was much harder than I anticipated because I didn t have an address, references or a phone number to be reached at (because it was shut off for lack of payment). These were the reasons I was unable to completely fill out an application or to be hired. The author of this paper believes that Ethan Couch should have gotten harsher sentencing. Affluenza was used as a reason for Couch needing to have his charges lessened, but in looking through reasons that someone can have their sentence lessened Affluenza was not among them. The term itself is just a mix of affluence and influenza. Ethan Couch was old enough to make decisions by himself. He would have known that drinking heavily and driving was a bad decision. If he had just acted his age he would have either asked someone to drive him of gotten a taxi to go home, and avoided the whole incident and not had to go to court. He was 16 years old at the time of the case so he would have known what he did was wrong. The final issue with the term Affluenza is that the term itself gives rich people the right to say that Affluenza was the cause of their crime. If Affluenza is to be used as a valid excuse for a crime then other people would be able to create their own special reason for why they did their crime. Annual expenditure on all items related to angling/fishing involved the purchasing of rod licences from the Environment Agency, tackle, bait, and permits on private lakes as well as travel by anglers, in 1994, the total was estimated to be approximately ВЈ3 Billion (Moon and Souter, 1994). By 2005 approximately thirty million days were fished by anglers on UK fisheries which was substantially more than the year 2000 (Mawle, Peirson, 2009, p.44.) The Theory Of Folk Psychology Eliminative materialism (eliminativism) is an ontologically radical approach that claims that a matured cognitive science will show that mental states that common sense takes for granted, such as beliefs, do not exist (or do not have referents). Instead, it claims that these mental entities are theoretical terms for the false theory of folk psychology(common sense psychology), which can be defined as the cognitive ability to explain and predict the behaviour and mental state of other people. In essence, the theory aims to discredit folk psychology by claiming that people will discover that there is no neural basis to mental entities and thus, they are non existent. I shall argue that there are significant fundamental flaws to both the arguments for eliminativism about propositional attitudes and eliminativism about qualia (subjective experience). For the former, I will argue that the eliminative materialist s theory theory is flawed and show that propositions alone can discredit the position on philosophy of mind. This will lead to identifying the position as self refuting. Furthermore, I will show that science itself has proven simulation theory to be true so that I can discredit eliminative materialism. For the latter, I will argue that qualia exist due to introspection. Combined, the deconstruction of eliminative materialism with regards to propositional attitudeand qualia will show that the materialist position is flawed and should not be agreed with. In both of the two poems there are occasional rhymes, but no set rhyme scheme. As for punctuation in the two, there seems to be no pattern. In Emily Dickinson s poem she uses hyphens to show an unfinished thought at the end of a line or within a line. However, these long times are on vastly different timescales, and are not even close to being comparable to each other. To human minds, however, it would seem as though anything beyond the scope of their lifetime blends into a series of events on a page. The years before their birth sticking together into an amalgam of history, distorted beyond recognition. We place prominence on events which have taken place recently, while discounting the vast eons between the ages of the distant past. It may seem as though an eternity has passed between now and 1945 for the centenarian, but even the oldest amongst us would see the time between the foundation of the greek and egyptian civilizations as having a length much less than the 2500 years that separate the two. Humans have many methods to describe large numbers mathematically. Ever since the invention of the concept of zero essential to the ancients in keeping good records of various transactions humans have been using mathematics to describe ever larger quantities of items. The idea behind this Buy Nothing Day is to increase citizen awareness of environmental and ethical consequences that come with too much consumerism; however, many feel it will severely hurt small businesses. Nevertheless, the concept behind a day without spending is a great way to control consumer rates as long as those who choose to partake are prepared to go a whole day with no transactions. Before discussing the pros of a Buy Nothing Day, we must understand the reason why it can be beneficial. Consumerism, the purchase of goods or services, is typically seen as a fantastic way to boost the economy but everything has a limit. Excessive consumerism, or the act of buying too many goods and services, can become a major issue for any economic system. For instance, in the 1920 s there was a huge economic boom which created a consumer revolution. Eventually, this led to The Great Depression that left many Americans struggling... These funds were raised in 2010 and by the time the inquiries began many of the 2010 ARC staff in this chapter had been replaced under the government restructure. • 36. America Is Not Universally Free Essay America is not universally free. This is easily proven with examples from a variety of subjects. For example, take LGBT rights. De jure, gay marriage is legal nationwide. But de facto, when one looks at the social reality dealt with by people who are not heterosexual, one finds that not everyone has the realistic ability to do so. Even on a de jurelevel, there are the bathroom bills, passed by North Carolina and looked at by many states, designed to limit transgender people s ability to use the bathroom. But even if one deals with that, and all of the other issues of systematic discrimination faced by modern America race, class, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, etc. on both a de jure and de factolevel, America would still not be universally free. What do I mean by this? Well, firstly I need to be entirely clear about what I mean by freedom. The Oxford English Dictionary defines freedom as the state or fact of being free from servitude, constraint, inhibition, etc.; liberty. This is true; however, any reasonable person can determine that that does not even begin to cover what freedom really means. There is emotional value in the word that simply cannot be captured by such a clinical definition. When I say freedom, what I really mean is the reasonable ability to make choices about one s own actions and one s own life. This does not have to be free from consequence, but it has to be a reasonable possibility on a de facto level. What exactly a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Television Show South Park The difference between the intended meaning of media texts and what the audience actually perceives can be shockingly different. Producers of media can do everything possible to force audiences to experience their work in the way they want them to, but in the end they still take away many different meanings even within the same audience. Stuart Hall outlines this in his encoding and decoding model. One of the most apparent examples of this is the television show South Park. The television show South Park is a media text with the producers preferred meaning of being decoded as joke or as being satire, but many audience members take an oppositional stance of taking it seriously. This is clear from the examples of controversy when South Park aired episodes focused on Scientology, red headed people, and Islam. Through these examples it is demonstrated that the producers of media have less power compared to the audience in determining the meaning of media. In Hall s encoding and decoding model he argues that encoding and decoding the meaning of media is not a single sided process but one shared by both the producers and the audience. The producers encode their preferred meaning into the media using frameworks of knowledge, relations of production, and technical infrastructure (Hall, 1997). Frameworks of knowledge are the producers beliefs and what they assume about the audience s beliefs. Relations of production are the needs of the financial side of the industry. Technical ... Each number in this number code represents the maximum allowable number of particles in the oil greater than 2 microns, 5 microns, and 15 microns in size respectively. Hard to implement in our design (can t justify this concisely) not really necessary? The filtration system configuration can be seen below in Figure 4. The pump draws the oil out of the sump and through a prefilter. It then positively directs the oil towards the solenoid valve which directs it through one of the two parallel filtration systems. Each filtration system is equipped with a 10 micron filter and two 4 micron filters set in a parallel configuration. The oil then passes through the 10 micron filter which will remove all particles of 10 microns in size or greater. The oil then enters a flow divider valve which properly diverts the oil to two separate 4 micron filters for further oil cleansing. Likewise, the 4 micron filters will remove all particles of 4 microns or greater. From here, the oil flows through a check ball valve to ensure no backflow into the filters. This is necessary due to the merging of the two parallel 4 micron filters. After leaving the first filter configuration the oil is then directed towards the cooling system. However before it reaches the cooler, it passes an alternate route towards the bypass filtration system. This system does not circulate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many also often assume that one side of a conflict is right and good, and the other wrong and evil. Good and evil go hand in hand. Depending on the environment, good people can get caught up in some very bad things. Good people do bad things because of desperation, religion, and peer pressure. In the article What Makes Good People Do Bad Things by Melissa Dittmann it briefly explains the Stanford Prison Experiment. Students took the role of being either a guard or prisoner. During the experiment the guards began to abuse their power and take advantage of the prisoners. Many of the prisoners had emotional breakdowns. This experiment showed that any human being can quickly submit to evil in the right environment. What pushes good people to their limit to do evil choices? With the right environment even the holiest people who got to church every Sunday, pay their tithes, don t steal, and treat others the way they want to be treated can do evil things. This evidently resulted in further research and new treatment methods being created (Stanley, 1958). There have however been reports suggesting that ultrasound can increase the size of ulcers following treatment as the intensity was excessively higher than required, contradicting William s theory (Harvey and Elphick, 1969). It has been suggested that the application of ultrasound at a low dose can increase degranulation of mast cells and the release of histamine accelerating the acute inflammation phase. Throughout the duration of this class, I learned about multicultural counseling as a whole, new theories that can be applied specifically to different racial/ethnic minorities, the ACA code of ethics, and who I wantto be as a future counselor. In the beginning of the course I had very little knowledge about the theories in multicultural counseling. I knew that it was centrally focused around social justice and equality but I didn t know there were theories that pertained to specific ethnic minorities. I also learned that there isn t a one size fits all theory. What I learned was that each model needs to be unique to the client and very well rounded; it should include a specific goal(s), describe the process, have both aspects of cognition and emotion, and include justice and equity as well. (Jun 2010) I have learned that as a multicultural counselor you have to be very aware and mindful of your thoughts and actions. I learned that there is a lot that is integrated into multicultural counseling and it isn t cut and dry. There are varieties of concepts, such as being aware of oppression, continuous self reflection, awareness of impact that a multicultural counselor can have on an individual, etc. (Jun, 2010) I was happy to read that social ... The horror genre as a whole feeds off our fears and our imagination, which often leads us to be hyper vigilant of our surroundings. Catharsis was theorized by the Greek philosopher Aristotle, in which he believed we purge our negative emotions and thoughts via the portrayal of other situations and circumstances (Walters, 2004). By viewing violent and graphic footage, which is often what horror films consist of, it is believed that the person will purge their violent tendencies and thoughts while watching a horror film, resulting in a lower likelihood of acting on violent tendencies. However, it has equally been posited that such graphic images will increase the aggressive tendencies in the viewer (Walters, 2004). So, although catharsis is a theory of why we watch horror films, there is no way to discern whether there is a correlation or not between watching horror films and lowering one s aggression or vice ... • 52. Analysis Of Where The Red Fern Grows Cherish these moments tomorrow they ll be memories ,pinterest said and has a deep meaning to the story Where the Red Fern Grows. In the story Where the Red Fern Grows the theme is to cherish those close to you before it s too late. The story is also a good lesson to learn because you never know when someone vital to your life may die so cherish them while you have them. This quote from pinterest fits the theme of the story because when Old Dan and Little Ann almost died Billy felt like he should ve loved them more when they were alive. Without that time in the story the story would be completely different. This is a wise quote because when Billy got his dogs after working so hard to get them he knew that once he got the dogs he would remember how he got his dogs forever. That was one of the most important parts in the story and without them the story would be different. Since the part is in the story now the part makes a huge impact on the book and that is why that supports my quote and theme. In the story there were several moments that Billy would remember for the rest of his life . Billy had multiple lessons he had learned through the course of his life so far, and there will still be many more lessons to come. There are other pieces to this story that are important to the story. There is one part in the story where Little Ann and Old Dan nearly died from the winter storm. Without that time in the story the story would have changed dramatically. Who knows whether ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
