The Brain Is The Most Important Components Of The Human Brain
The brain is the greatest, the most fascinating and the most complex organ of the human been.
According to Dr. Wolfe, the human brain weighs about three pound. Humans do not feel its weight
because it is full of fluids and it is floating. The human brain consumes ten times more oxygen of all
the humans body parts and 25% of the total energy produced by the body. It is not the largest part
of the humans body, but it is one of the most important parts. Through the years educators were like
doctors giving certain treatment to their patients without being sure what the disease was. If the
first treatment given did not work they gave another treatment and so on. Nowadays technology has
help to study how animals and humans brainworks. It also has helped to discover how and where
information is manipulated within the brain during the learning process. To discover how the brain
works, the brain was divided in many parts. According to the book, the brain structures are
cerebellum, brain stem, temporal lobe, broca s area, frontal lobe, motor cortex, sensory cortex,
parietal lobe, wernicke s area, occipital lobe, hypothalamus and pituitary gland (Bohlin, Durwin,
Reese Weber, 2012). The major lobes of the brain are frontal, occipital, parental and temporal and
each of them has different functions during the learning process. Frontal lobe is responsible for
higher standard thinking. According to the book, during the learning process, frontal lobe controls
attention, creative

Romanticism In Young Goodman Brown
Dependent Humans People tend to put their faith and hopes on other people, and they let them
down, hurt them emotionally. Emotions fluctuate and one cannot help but be upset or be enraged,
this is what the Romanticism Movement fueled itself on. Human emotion, nature, religion, and
love are all factors of Romanticism. Romantic characteristics can be found in literature and are
expressed by people throughout the Romantic Era from how they considered human potential and
personality more valuable than reason. When reading Young Goodman Brownby Nathaniel
Hawthorne, someone can identify and understand the ideas of Romanticism and the influence the
idea had on American literature from how they focus on a person s beliefs and inner struggles.
This story relates to Romanticism from how the story shows Goodman Brown s love and care
for Faith, how evil is within every human being, and how Goodman Brown loses his faith in all
goodness of humanity when he sees Faith turn over to the dark side at the Devil s ceremony.
Love is shown in Hawthorne s story by how Goodman Brown loves and cares about Faith. When
the Devil is trying to persuade Goodman Brown to follow him to the ceremony, Goodman
Brown uses his love for Faith as a reason of why he must not go. Goodman Brown tells the Devil
that There is my wife, Faith. It would break her dear little heart; and I d rather break my own
(Hawthorne p.24). This was sadly not enough to keep him from going to the ceremony, for he later

The Effects Of Smoking On The United States
Smoking is established as a recognized cause of cancer, lung disease, coronary heart disease, and
stroke(US Public Health Service,1964,Doll R 1976,1994, US Department of Health and Human
Services,1989).it is considered to be the single most important avoidable cause of premature
morbidity and mortality in the world. WHO has estimated that there are about 1100 million
smokers worldwide; this represents about one third of the global population aged over 15 years
(WHO,1997). About 73% of these smokers (700 million males, 100 million females) are in
developing countries; in industrialized countries there are 200 million male smokers and 100
million female smokers. In the over 15 year old population of developing countries, it is
estimated that about 48% of males and 7% of females are smokers. The corresponding figures for
industrialized countries are 42% for males and 24% for females (WHO,1997).
Logistic Regression Model: The logistic regression models has wide ranging applications from
determining the population growth and its determinants to applications for predicting and
analyzing qualitative data and in epidemiological studies. Logistic regression model postulates
relationship between the log odds of a disease and the risk factors. A regression predicts the
probability that an observation falls into one of two categories of a dichotomous dependent variable
based on one or more independent variables that can be either continuous or categorical.

Analysis And Evaluation Of ENLACE NM And ELRIO Websites
According to the analysis and evaluation of the ENLACE NM and SSS TRIO websites, both
pertain to the same discourse community: educational programs. Both communities offer free
services to students supporting them with their educational endeavors. A website is used as an
essential communication tool to invite a specific population to become part of their program and
reach their ultimate mission. Although ENLACE NM and SSS TRIO websites promote the
importance of higher education, they differ in goals, language, the audiencethey serve, and the
overall organization and layout of their page. The mission statement of both communities is
expressed similarly at the front page of each website: to increase college retention and graduation...

In addition, a senior in high school may visit both websites to explore the services that each
program provides since ENLACE helps students transition from high school to college, and SSS
supports students at the university level. SSS specifies its criteria for a targeted audience in the
program application found on a different tab of the website, but ENLACE addresses the community
of Latino students by explaining its initiatives throughout the page. Moreover, each community has
its unique syntax and vocabulary. The meaning of ENLACE represents the goal of the program:
ENgaging LAtino Communities for Education. There is an emphasis on the importance of
collaboration of gente (people) from underrepresented communities who bring the program together.
The vocabulary utilized by the website, such as initiative (taking action), collaborative (working
together), and united advocacy (supporting an important cause) represent the shared values and the
mission of this discourse community. Similarly, SSS TRIO stands for Student Support Services
which is part of the TRIO (three) programs funded through the U.S. Department of Education. SSS

Analysis Of A Night To Remember By Walter Lord
Walter Lord, the narrative historian whose books most notably A Night to Remember, a riveting
account of the sinking of the Titanic were characterized by intensive research and exhaustive
interviews, died on Sunday at his Manhattan apartment. He was 84.
Mr. Lord, a onetime advertising executive, adeptly popularized the stories not only of the Titanic
disaster of 1912 but also the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the World War II evacuation of
Dunkirk, the Battle of Midway, the fall of the Alamo, the War of 1812 and the enrollment of James
Meredith as the first black student at the University of Mississippi.
His usual approach to what he called living history was to combine historical research with
journalistic methods, including you are there insights gathered in interviews with dozens of
survivors and witnesses to the events he chronicled.
Mr. Lord s writing technique, said Stanley Walker, reviewing A Night to Rememberin the Book
Review of The New York Herald Tribune, was based on a kind of literary pointillism, the
arrangement of contrasting bits of fact and emotion in such a fashion that a vividly real impression
of an event is conveyed to the reader.

David McCullough credited Mr. Lord as an inspiration for his own flourishing career as a writer of
popular histories and biographies on such varied topics as the Brooklyn Bridge, the Panama Canal

Syrian Civil War Essay

CURRENT AFFAIRS HANDOUT 11
SYRIAN CIVIL WAR
Gen
1.The Syrian civil war also commonly known as the Syrian uprising is an ongoing armed conflict
in Syria between forces loyal to the Syrian Baath Party government and those seeking to oust it.
The conflict began on 15 March 2011, with popular demonstrations that grew nationwide by April
2011. These demonstrations were part of the wider Middle Eastern protest movement known as the
Arab Spring. Protesters demanded the resignation of President Bashar al Assad, whose family has
held the presidency in Syria since 1971, as well as the end to over four decades of Baath Party rule.
In April 2011, the Syrian Army was deployed to quell the uprising. After months of military sieges,

World Opinion
6.The Arab League, United States, European Union, Arab States of the Persian Gulf, and other
countries condemned the use of violence against the protesters. The Arab League suspended
Syria s membership because of the government s response to the crisis, but granted the Syrian
National Coalition, Syria s seat on 6 March 2013. The Arab League also sent an observer mission
in December 2011, as part of its proposal for peaceful resolution of the crisis.
7.A further attempt to resolve the crisis was made through the appointment of Kofi Annan as a
special envoy. On 15 July 2012, the International Committee of the Red Cross assessed the Syrian
conflict as a non international armed conflict (the ICRC s legal term for civil war), thus applying
international humanitarian law under the Geneva Conventions to Syria.

Neorealism Kim Jong-Na
North Korea s nuclear program is making advances daily. This authoritarian regime, which rules
over approximately twenty five million people, has to take calculated actions in order to remain
relevant internally, as well as internationally. The nuclear program is raising concerns across the
international system. At a superficial level, Kim Jong un is perceived as a mentally unable tyrant,
but in reality, is performing calculated actions. North Koreas nuclear program identifies power
balancing actions. Through military power, Kim Jong un is seeking to maximize long term
viability of the regime. This phenomenon that best explains this is through the neorealist
perspective.
Theoretical Foundation Neorealism or neorealism relies on the assumption that states are only
interested in survival. The main actors in this perspective are great powers. These states are
considered rational actors. However, one state can never be certain of the actions of other states. It
is because of this structure that these states operate in a state of anarchy within the system. Due to
this structure, states are always in a state of fear. This fear results from the intentions of other
states. The best action for a state that wants security is for the state become more powerful. The
stronger, and more powerful a state becomes relative to other states, it reduces the likelihood of a
conflict. This is in the relative senses, not absolute. Thus states will always be looking to exploit
opportunities

18th Century Roman Clothing
1.In the realm of fashion, the attire one wears can broadcast a statement, whether of their political
view or general lifestyle. Consequently, throughout history groups in our society are often
associated with a typical style of clothing. For instance, in 18th century France the sans culottes
(translated to those without britches ) were the unruly lower class that would wear, long
trousers...[and] special caps, the same as those worn in ancient Rome by free slaves. (pg. 81) This
is indicative toward their ideals of a well off government as well as the prospect of liberty.
Moreover, they would refuse to sport the knee breeches worn by the wealthy, and was a method of
identification, with this distinctive difference between them and the bourgeoisie.

Policing in Regards to Race, Gender and Ethnicity
In the United States the issue of Policing in regards to race, gender and ethnicity has been an
ongoing reform in which state and local legislatures have been dealing with as of recent years.
Although there have been legislation on equal opportunity, the primary significance in promoting
equality has been the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The Civil Rights Act is a federal legislation,
which in part bars discrimination based on race or gender. Employers from local and state
agencies are all affected by this legislation. To enforce and see that the legislation is carried out
accordingly, the government created the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. However,
prior to the Civil Rights Act, we take a look back into the historical overview of policing within the
United States. Policing in America is a transplant of English heritage policing model. During the
early colonial times, formal policedepartments had yet to have been created. Over time outbreak
social disorder and crime erupted causing for a more formal police to model. Formal policing
model began to arise in the late 1800 s and leaders at the time attempted to reduce control of the
police by politicians. As the 20th century rolled in, the focus began to latch closely on the thought
of policing to be an actual professional force. Ultimately, as time progressed so did reforms to
change the directive of police department policies. The reforms came at a time where police officers

affects the four functions of management. The internal factors include the company s strength and
weakness that displays their success or downfall. The internal factors reveal the company s strength
on how well it can meet their goals. The internal factors of an industry are factors of good or poor

Google must plan accordingly to be successful in the search engine market. Organizing can be very
challenging to new companies. Google has grown and would not function correctly without
organization. Google will strive to make improvements wherever it can but will not change things
working effortlessly. Once organized, managers should direct employees on the goals of the
company. Managers should oversee the staff to ensure procedures and processes are adhered to and
to look for those directives not working. Controlling is the last function of management. Controlling
involves establishing performance standards and evaluates employees. A manager should not
reduce the standards to solve an individual performance problem. Technology can affect this
function and should be used to help the process. Managers may have the employees conduct their
evaluation within the company intranet. This reduces the workload and is good for the environment.
Furthermore, Google is a company that highlights and is proud of its diversity both internally and
externally from creating groups for employees to celebrate their differences to honoring cultural
and historical events on its homepage. This company s success depends on its teams of employees
and has launched different programs such as black googler group, women Google groups and
LGBT googlers to highlight and learn from everyone s differences. Google emphases that everyone

Sikh Diet Research Paper
Another important Sikh ideal is that we should not eat things that result from the killing of an
animal. It is not correct however to say that the Sikh diet is a vegan diet. It is adequate to eat or
drink something that an animal produces but it is not adequate to eat or drink something that
comes from the killing of an animal or living being in general. In the Siri Guru Granth Sahib it
says, Whosoever takes Marijuana, fish and alcoholic drinks; all his pilgrimages, fasts and
performance of religious practices shall go waste (SGGS 1377). The reason for this is because
killing a living being for your own benefit is seen as an unrighteous action. It is deemed unethical
to kill, and it is believed that God resides in all including animals and... Show more content on

One way the caste system is abolished is through langar. Langar is the free kitchen and dinning
hall, or other provision for serving meals that must be attached to the Gurdwaras. The purpose was
to clearly eliminate caste on the territory of the Gurdwara and so to eliminate it as either as a
means or a hindrance to liberation (Mcleod 121). A Sikhpractice in which everyone sits down on
the floor together and takes part in eating langar together is seen at all Gurdwaras. This is an
important Sikh practice because it allows everyone to sit at one level and eat the same meal. No
one person is higher than another and that is the goal of this practice as mentioned. Sikhism
focuses largely on equality and today it is still seen that equality in all is not seen. Sikhs fight
for equality as a whole in America especially after the 9/11 attacks but there is a lack of equality
seen in the Sikh diaspora itself. For example many of the Sikhs still believe in the caste system.
This is especially seen in marriage. A lot of the parents will only allow their children to marry
within their own caste. This goes against Guru Nanak and the Sikh religion as a whole because it
erases the platform of all being

Laocoön
Rarely is the modern student of classical literature (be they trapped in class, forced to stare at
their worn copy of the Aeneid, or nose deep in a freshly reprinted copy of the Iliad) privy to the
primal clashes depicted by Homer and Virgil alike. Modernity has triumphed in the wake of the
latter half of the twentieth century; today we view the struggles of peoples separated by vast
swathes of time and geography under a sanitized, clinical eye. Yet those who look upon the
Hellenistic work, Laocoön and his Sons, are yanked thousands of years into the past. The
sculpture places the viewer in a vicious, futile struggle against the will of the gods. A stunning
union of dynamism and torrid emotion, the Laocoön Group serves as a legacy to Grecian... Show

I feel that the public takes an aloof, sometimes derisive attitude towards the stories and peoples
of the past. To see a work so boldly depict the physicality and mentality behind the fear of death is
striking to me. No other modern medium can properly compare; television and movies are quick,
distracting, our suspension of disbelief is broken the moment we step up to grab popcorn. The
silver and miniature screen s scene of anguish is quietly ushered away to make way for something
else. The stone is permanent; the viewer may look away, but for many, including myself, the scene
is etched into my mind. Thus, the artist is successful the lesson is sown into the unconscious, the
themes may not be discussed, or pondered upon, but still they linger. It is my firm conviction that
an effective piece of artwork is stepped in a visual language that the unconscious understands,
registering the work with chills down the spine. So long as death plagues humanity, the Laocoön
sculpture, above all else, deserves to be preserved for as long as the material itself

Limewater Test Lab Report
1. Limewater Test: As we exhaled CO2 in the limewater solution, the CO2 reacted with Ca(OH)2
and changed the clear colorless limewater solution to precipitated white solution. The precipitation
was caused due to the calcium in the limewater solution. It took us 5 attempts to turn the clear
colorless limewater solution to a milky white solution. 2. Phenolphthalein Indicator Test: As
phenolphthalein indicator was added to NaOH and H2O solution, it made the solution turn clear
pink. The phenolphthalein indicator detects the presence of the base in the solution by changing
the color of the solution from clear colorless to clear pink. As we exhaled into the pink solution, the

Phenolphthalein Indicator Test: CO2 (g) + H2O(l) H2CO3(aq) H2CO3(aq) + 2NaOH(aq)
Na2CO3(aq) + 2H2O(l) How would the results of both tests be affected if you performed the
tests immediately after vigorously exercising for several minutes? Explain. Performing vigorous
exercise requires a high demand of energy in order to be accomplished, the body adapts to this
change by increasing the rate of aerobic cellular respiration which would produce more energy
to meet the needs. As a result there would be much more carbon dioxide being exhaled from the
body as it is one of the waste products produced during aerobic cellular respiration. CO2 is
specifically formed during the Pyruvate oxidation and Kreb Cycle stage of the cellular
respiration. To exemplify during pyruvate oxidation one of the steps is a decarboxylation
reaction in which the carboxyl group of pyruvate is removed to from CO2. Overall for one
glucose molecule two molecules of CO2 is released during pyruvate oxidation as glycolysis
yields two pyruvate molecules. Furthermore the Krebs Cycle also produces CO2 molecules
during the oxidation of isocitrate which produces a ketoglutarate. Another CO2 molecule is
also produced during the oxidation of a ketoglutarate. This reaction produces the molecule
succinyl CoA. As a result two CO2 molecules are produced for one acetyl CoA. These points
exemplify how the increase rate of cellular respiration would increase the rate of CO2 being
exhaled. In connection to the lab investigation this would speed up the rate of reactions as there
would be a much higher concentration of CO2 being exhaled compared to when the body is at
rest. As a result this would increase the amount of product being produced because of the increase
of CO2 in the reaction. Due to which the lab experiment would occur at a higher rate and it would
be faster as

such as long tailed and pig tailed macaques usually found in Southern Asia. Until 2004 the natural

infections were reported in Sarawak, a small town in Malaysia.
Human infections have since been reported throughout the South east of Asia, Northern Asia,

In Australia paramedics are exposed to numerous diseases, illnesses and parasitic infections through
travelers returning home or visiting Australia, animals and the tropical environment. The
symptoms of acute knowlesi are similar to those of Malaria falciparum and Malaria vivax. They
include Fevers, and chills, being the most prevalent in addition headaches, myalgia/arthralgia, and
poor appetite are very common side effects. In new research described by Cox Singh et al,
abdominal pain, gastrointestinal symptoms, and diarrhea were all present in fatal cases that could
have been prevented if the quick recognition of the infection was achieved by treating medical
professionals. As the scope of paramedic practice is growing exponentially the knowledge of such
clinical presentations could result in faster diagnosis, and treatment if presented with the infection.
This article covers the present education and knowledge of the clinical presentation, diagnosis,
treatment, pathogenesis, and epidemiology of P. knowlesi malaria but unfortunately has only been
drawn from a small number of clinical case reports, both and moderately limited field studies. The
data collected indicates that P.knowlesi malaria is primarily categorized as a zoonotic disease with
primates as the major hosts, mainly long and short tailed macaques. Furthermore, the research
gathered shows that even though P.knowlesi infections

He describes her as a beautiful girl with high cheek bones and deep blue eyes...[g]olden brown
tresses framed her lovely face (Alexander, 2012, p. 40). She was also riding on a butterfly wing, as
he recalls, and it just seems to be a way a novelist would describe an angel guiding someone lost in
heaven. There was nothing to make it sound different or stand out. It makes it hard to believe it s
Alexander trying to prove heaven is real rather than just writing a story.
Later on in the book Alexander talks about the core where he saw [b]ig, puffy, pink white
[clouds] that showed up sharply against the deep blue black sky (p. 45). Everyone who thinks of
heaven, thinks of clouds. It is not uncommon for anyone to describe heaven that way. It is very
stereotypical and made it no different that anyone else s image of heaven. A sound, huge and
booming like a glorious chant, came from above, and I wondered if the winged beings were
producing it (Alexander, 2012, p. 45) is also another stereotype of what people say you d hear
when you re in heaven. Again, not enough proof.
There was a section where he mentions how he came into contact with God and received
knowledge that was not taught but stored. It seemed that everyone who might have gone to church
had heard the knowledge of what God was giving to Alexander. Maybe if he had gone more into
depth and detail to what the knowledge he stored from his

own opinion I believe the war had a great effect on the women of both the North and the South.
Without them, I don t believe there would have been enough nurses to have saved the men they
did and there wouldn t have been anything at home for all left on the home front. Because of the
war, we have great American History about women and the impact they had on the Civil War
and after. Which I believe led to a huge part of the Women s Rights Movement. What roles did
the Black slaves play in the Civil War? What roles did the free Blacks play in the Civil War?
How did the war affect each group? It took a clear and dire urging from the beloved General
Robert E. Lee to convince the Confederate Congress to begin enlisting black soldiers. (Civil War
Trust, 2015) Black men had tried to volunteer their services to the Union but because of President
Lincoln being afraid of what it would do to the white men s morale, he rejected the blacks from
volunteering for the war. However, in saying that, it did changed. President Lincoln passed the
Emancipation Proclamation, which stated All persons held as slaves within any States...in rebellion

Realism In The Yellow Wall-Paper
The Period of Realism and Naturalism
Realism and Naturalism are literary movements that appeared across America in the late 19th and
early 20th centuries. The two are sometimes used interchangeably, sometimes used as opposites
(Baym and Levine 902). Realism and Naturalism emerged in numerous aspects of life, but are most
evident in literature. The purpose of realism is to demonstrate idealistic views of life in favor of
detailed, accurate descriptions of the everyday (Baym and Levine 902). On the other hand,
naturalism focuses on a more romantic, view of human life than realism (Baym and Levine 902).
Authors that concentrated on realism include Kate Chopin and Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Within
their stories, it becomes clear on which issues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These two characters have different levels of rationality. Of the two, Mrs. Mallard is slightly
more rational. She is an eloquent woman who knows what she wants. Mrs. Mallard depicts life
in a very clear and intellectual way. It seems, though, that she is able to do such extraordinary
logical thinking after the passing of her husband. Now that the burden of her husband has been
severed, she no longer has a mental strain. An example of this is when she states, In the street
below a peddler was crying his wares. The notes of a distant song which some one was singing
reached her faintly, and countless sparrows were twittering in the eaves (556). This line shows
how sharp she can be now that she does not have her husband s powerful will bending hers (556).
Aside from that, Mrs. Mallard s sense of hearing is perceptive and she is oddly mindful of her
surroundings. The narrator from The Yellow Wall paper is more irrational and the cause might
be the lack of freedom her superiors impose. Due to her oppression, she has become obsessed
with the wall paper. She stares at the wall paper with the purpose of finding meaning in her
hopeless life. Consequently, this is how she passes her time since she is confined to a room with
very limited things to do. As time passes, she becomes overly obsessed with the wall paper as she
points out that, they connect diagonally, and the sprawling outlines run

Manifest Destiny Research Paper
Because of Manifest Destiny the United States faced potential wars and a great deal of inequality.
Although it did have a few positive impacts, it mostly effected the country negatively. While
Manifest Destiny brought the U.S. expansion along with immigration, it created inequity and
promoted war which were not reasonable consequences for the countries progression.
Those who heavily influenced the idea of Manifest Destiny like John O Sullivan, who also created
it, said that it was what God wanted and therefore it was acceptable to do whatever was needed
for the U.S. to obtain more land. O Sullivan opted for a war of conquest against Mexico. Although
the U.S. was able to acquire California and New Mexico through this act, it was not a valid reason
to invade Mexican territory and purloin land that did not belong to the United States. Along with O
Sullivan, presidents John Tyler and James K.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article Manifest Destiny: An Introduction the author says It excluded those people who
were percieved as being incapable of self government, such as Native American people and those
of non European origin. This is an example of inequality because people who were not European
were practically ignored and viewed as unimportant which gave them less rights than everyone else.
The article by Thomas Hietala states that leaders and private groups continued to seek more land
from Native Americans, Central American countries and European governments. This is another
example of inequality because Americans tried to take land from those who were seen as lesser
than them so they could have more for themselves and leave Natives, Central Americans and
Europeans with nothing. Manifest Destiny was not an acceptable excuse to take land and rights
from people because they weren t considered fully American and therefore just gave the
government an excuse to control those people so they could take what they wanted from

Research Paper On Friday Night Lights
Friday Night Lights Research Paper In H.G. Bissinger s novel Friday Night Lights he goes in
depth describing the world surrounding high school football in Texas. There is nothing like
high school football in Texas, it is the best thing to happen to many of the people that live there.
Winning a high school state championship in Texas can make someone a hero for the rest of
their lives. This being said, it causes a lot of difficulties once this peak in their life is over at
such a young age. Many of these people do not know how to live with themselves after their
days of football are over. They grow up and live through their kids. Sports and academics are two
of the areas of life where parents attempt to live their dreams and ambitions through their
children. Some parents try to continue their athletic careers or have a successful athletic career
through their kids on a daily basis. This can come from them not fulfilling lifetime dreams or
having an unsuccessful career when they had the chance to participate in these athletic events.
Charlie Billingsley is a very good example of one of those parents. He lives his old running back
career through his son, Don Billingsley, who also plays running back. Charlie was a very
successful player for the Permian football team. He played in college but let alcohol become more
important than football. Charlie admitted to it in Friday Night Lights in a conversation. It is stated,

The Affirmative Of Affirmative Action Essay
Many affirmative action efforts have been made since the end of the Civil War in order to
remedy the results of hundreds of years of slavery, segregation and denial of opportunity for
groups that face discrimination. Many African Americans such as President Barack Obama,
Senator Cory Booker, the writer Toni Morrison, the literary scholar Henry Louis Gates, media
star Oprah Winfrey, and rap star Jay Z have achieved positions of power and influence in the
wider society (Giddens, Duneier, Appelbaum, Carr). However, today blacks and other minorities
are still more likely to live in poverty, be killed by the police, attend poor schools, and have
unequal economic opportunities. This object of this paper is to understand why affirmative actionis
still needed in the United State by discussing the differences between whites and racial/ethnic
minorities access to education and employment.
Racial Inequality in Educational Attainment in America Historically, African American, Latino and
Native American students were educated in wholly segregated schools whose funding rates were
several times lower than schools made up of all white students. These minority students were also
being excluded from many higher institutions (Darling Hammond). This happened until legal
segregation came to an end in the 1960s and many efforts were made to equalize school funding.
These efforts have made a substantial difference for student achievement and significantly narrowed

The Irish Countryman by Arensberg The Irish Countryman by Arensberg was a very interesting
society in many aspects. Their way of life, their level of trust and respect, and their beliefs and

the spirit world both mentally and physically on a day to day basis. They continuously strived to

The Irish society is mostly composed of peasants living in rural areas with insufficient land. They
were a polygenous society in which the political aspect of the community was dominated by an
outside force. Matchmaking marriage was the most respectable. Most women either didn t get
married at all or got married very late. The process of marriage was very intricate and involved.
The female s parents are very particular when choosing who their daughter is going to marry. They
make sure he comes from a good family and that he is going to inherit a lot of land in order to gain
status to the family. On the other hand, the man is more concerned with the level of intelligence
that the woman has. The woman has to be very responsible in the sense that she has many

Essay on Causes Of The Pelopenesian War
The Causes of the Peloponessian War
Ancient Greece during the 4th century B.C. was home to the city states of Sparta and Athens.
These two communities were the superpowers of the region during that time. The peloponnesian
war between these two states evolved out of a string of events that would lead to years of conflict.
When looking for a single cause of the peloponnesian war none can be found. Over time many
events contributed to the eventual war between Sparta and Athens. I believe the peloponnesian war
evolved because of Athenian support for Spartan enemies, Spartan alarm at a rise in Athenian power,
and the drastic differences between the two cultures. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Spartans were not eager for war.
After the Persian wars there was a development of Athenian control over the commercial and
economic life of Greece. This growth was caused by the Persian wars themselves. Athens faced a
mighty foe in Persia and therefore formed the Delian League. This league was an alliance of cities
based around Athens. Each city contributed funds to the construction and maintenance of a vast
navy for use against the Persian threat. After the wars Athens dominated the Delian league and
declared the contributions from each city mandatory even though the Persian menace was gone.
Over time these allied cities came under direct Athenian control and the Athenian Empire began to
grow. The large navy was still maintained after the war and Athens, already a naval power in the
region tightened its grip on the neighboring waters including those that surrounded the peloponnese.
This had the effect of enclosing Sparta s peninsula in a blanket of Athenian naval power. To the
Spartans this development was one of considerable worry. The historian Thucydides wrote; The
growth of the power of Athens, and the alarm which this inspired (in Sparta), made war inevitable.
This comment validates the seriousness of Spartan worry and its contribution to the sparking of the
peloponnesian war. Sparta s geography left it vulnerable in some ways. The

The brain is divided into two separate bisections, the left and right hemisphere, children need
both sides of the brain innervated in order to learn properly. The left hemisphere is responsible
for perceiving information more logically and analytically, it is the side that processes things

imaginative creative thinking, the importance of developing both segments of the brain is not
something that should be overlooked. With the aid of the arts, children see there are an infinite

Essay about Emory Healthcare s New System to Reduce Errors
During the 1980 s and 90 s there were many studies done that showed that medical errors were
occurring in inpatient and outpatient settings at a very high rate. Computer Provider Order Entry
(CPOE) systems were designed to reduce or eliminate mistakes made by using hand written orders.
The CPOE system allows users to directly enter their orders into the system on computers which
are then sent directly to the healthcare providers that will be implementing the orders. Previously
orders were placed by writing on order sheets on patient charts. This was sometimes done by the
doctoror by a nurse acting on behalf of the doctor. Order sheets were then signed by the doctor and
then the information was input into the patient s record. This left... Show more content on

Some doctors believed that the CPOE system did not improve the quality of care as you needed to
be computer literate in order to use it.
The change from the manual system to the CPOE system was met with mixed reactions.
Classes were held to train employees with the system and Emory used Application Content Experts,
healthcare workers that had received special training in the CPOE system, as assistants to those
needing help, and a special hotline was set up to help with any questions.
In my opinion it was a good decision for Emory to implement the CPOE system as it will limit
the number of errors occurring and in the end save costs and lives. It was also a good decision to
roll out system out in one of their smaller units as an initial trial run. They were able to work out
some of the bugs in the system by doing so. They also did a good job with their training and the
ACE assistants and implementing the hot line.
Although all of those steps were positive, they should have offered additional training and they
should make extra training available for those that request it. In order for Emory to have a smooth
roll out when they introduce the CPOE system at EUHM they will need to more clearly define the
roles of the users of the system in order to reduce redundancies in the orders and clarifying the
responsibilities of the

John Yossarian Quotes
John Yossarian
Yossarian at first appears to be a paranoid and weak character. He believes that everyone is trying
to kill him, and pretends to be sick in the hospital to avoid combat. His main goal throughout the
war is to survive, and to escape the military.
They re trying to kill me (9).
Yossarianlearns that Orr is alive and decides to run away to Sweden to escape the war.
Through Yossarian s character, Heller satirizes the fact that not everybody involved in war is a
hero. Although Yossarian contributes to the war effort and does his share, deep inside he is truly
traumatized by the war and cannot bring himself to be brave. Unlike the others who put themselves
on the line in battle, Yossarian s paranoia causes him to hide in hospitals, pretending to suffer from
sickness.

manages to take control of Cathcart s job without anybody noticing, and he does not admit to it
because he is afraid of being blamed for anything wrong.
Clevinger
Clevinger is an optimistic character, which causes Yossarian to dislike him due to their opposite
personalities. Yossarian believes him to be crazy because he does not believe that everyone is out
to kill him, while Clevinger believes that Yossarian isolates himself from others too much.
As far back as Yossarian could recall, he explained to Clevinger with a patient smile, somebody was
always hatching a plot to kill him (12).
Clevinger disappears after his plane flies into a cloud.
Hellinger satirizes those who find positivity in time of war. Clevinger, ironically, kept a positive
mindset throughout, but he ultimately disappears, his future unknown.

Tort Reform And Medical Malpractice
Tort reform has intense arguments to both sides and creates a myriad of concerns. On one side
of the tort reform movement, defendants such as corporations and medical professionals want
limits on the damages awarded to the plaintiff. The benefit of tort reform for defendant is the
financial savings. However, a cap placed on medical malpractice cases and other cases that are
of negligence would standardize the monetary compensation regardless of the damage. In my
opinion, Medical malpractice tort reform is a gray area, for each breach of the standard of care
involves a different story and person, therefore the damages vary and should be evaluated fairly.
In this essay, both sides of the argument are discussed, with a focus on medical malpractice tort
reform. Proof of Malpractice For a plaintiff to triumph a claim of medical malpractice for
negligence, four elements must be established. The first element is proving the defendant owed a
duty of care to the plaintiff. The second is to show that the defendant breached the duty to the
plaintiff. The third is to show that the plaintiff was harmed and experienced damages. Finally, the
fourth is to show that the plaintiff was harmed by the actions of the defendant (Greenberg, 2009).
How does medical malpractice differ from a standard negligence claim? Medical malpractice
differs from a standards negligence claim and some states have different definitions. There are two
primary formulations for the legal standard of

How could Hollywood lie to me like that?! Films like Gladiator, Hercules and Pompeii all lead
me to believe that arenas contained things like animals, pits that warriors could fall into at
anytime, and even were able to house full armies fighting each other to the death, but instead the
reality was far different. Although there were venatores who hunted animals, in gladiatorial
combat animals were never used. They also generally fought in flat arenas, with no fancy things
like pits to fall into. Gladiatorial combat also typically only occurred man to man. Everything
shown in the movies is hyper exaggerated in comparison to what actually occurred because
Hollywood cares more about keeping the viewers interested, and dazzling them with wondrous
images of Ancient Rome, then being accurate. Even things like the armour many of the
gladiators wore was not accurately depicted. In the movies some of them were shirtless and did
not wear helmets, which was definitely not the reality because they generally always wore
helmets, armour and tunics. They would wear these things for protection because, contrary to the
movies, gladiators did not fight to the death. They were actually highly valuable for
entertainment, and cost a lot of money to train, so their lives mattered to the sponsors, therefore
it was rare that they were killed in combat. Finding out this information really has changed my
perspective on all movies regarding Ancient Rome, but specifically the ones that include
gladiatorial combat, because next time I see a new film I will be aware of what is real or fake and
this will force me to make others aware of these inaccuracies as

Each author in his or her own way masterfully employs images in order to better support their
overall claims. Within her text, Workers Go Shopping, Milanesio expertly employs multiple photos
of Argentinians moving about their daily lives to illustrate how the importation of western culture
so greatly affected the emerging middle, and working class consumers. This gives great backing to
her thesis of how the emerging working class so greatly affected the transformation of Argentina
into a modern 20th century nation. Photos of the Argentinian people enjoying modern luxuries like
dance halls and vacations to the beach, are accompanied by advertisements from magazines and
street billboards which further illuminate the consumer culture which had engulfed the nation by
mid century. Milanesio also employs images to illustrate how the importation of western culture
also propagated gender roles for not only women, but men as well. Documents taken directly from
Argentinian media of the day can be seen encouraging women to aspire for beauty, but also
submissiveness. The propagation of the housewife myth, visible here in the Argentinian media, was
a very prevalent force in the society of the United States at this time and can be assumed to have
been heavily influenced by their neighbors to the north. Ads directed to women for sewing
machines and kitchen appliances were mirrored by ones pointed to men which embedded ideals of
masculinity and hard work. These advertisements not only encouraged an overall image of what
Argentinian people should aspire to, but also expanded the consumer market, thereby promoting
consumerism. These photographs of Argentinians enjoying the newfound luxuries of modernity
and consumer society gives great backing to Milanesio s thesis of how the

The Aeronautical Telecommunication Network ( Atn )
2.3 AERONAUTICAL TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORK (ATN) :
2.3.1 Introduction
In the early 1980s, the international civil aviation community started to express concern about the
limitations on existing facilities and procedures, and their inability to cope with increasing air
traffic in the future years. Consequently Special Committee on FANS was established to study,
identify and assess new concepts and technology in the field of air navigation, including satellite
technology, and also to make recommendations thereon for the development of air navigation for
international civil aviation over a period of 25 years. A major result was the global
Communications, Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) concept
which identified the use of data communications and of satellite based systems as being the two
major areas of improvement to the then existing systems. The CNS/ATM concept was further
developed and redefined, after which the Aeronautical Telecommunication Network (ATN) became
an integral part of CNS/ATM systems. The ATN comprises application entities and communication
services which allow ground, air ground and avionics data subnetworks to interoperate. This is
done by adopting common interface services and protocols based on International Standards. The
ATN has been designed to provide data communication services to Air Traffic Service (ATS)
provider organizations and Aircraft Operating agencies for the following types of communication
traffic:

Roman Numerals
Roman numerals originated in ancient Rome. It lasted from 8th century BC to 2nd century AD.
When the Romans became industrious in trade and commerce, they soon realized that they needed
a method of counting, assuming all they had at that time were fingers to count on. So they
developed a system based on their hands.
An I , based on one finger, was used to represent the number one, II , two fingers, for the number
two, and III , three fingers, for the number three. The numeral for the number five, V , came from
the v that your hand makes between the thumb and fore finger. IV was used for the number four by
subtracting the first letter, I from V . The numeral X , or ten, came from using two hands. The
numbers were made by joining

Privacy Issues in Social Media Essay
Privacy Issues in Social Media Social Media is a current way in which people are using to
interact with one another daily. Since the launch of various Social Networking Sites (SNS) its
been a huge attraction in a new way to share information with others and correspond with interests
of your choice in many different forms. Although social media sites allow users to share
information with friends and other sites on the internet, many people are unaware of how their
privacy is getting out. Now that the expansion of global connection through these social media

In the beginning of 2004 is when social media users see Piczo, Flickr, Mixi and Facebook only
in Harvard college introduced. Piczo and Flickr revolved around mainly pictures being shared
and Mixi was one of Japans top social media sites. At this time, Facebook was only allowed to be
used in the Harvard College where it was designed by Mark Zuckerberg. It was not until 2005
when Facebook launched a site for high school students as well. This is where the profits of
advertising set in for the social media network and the way we share things online transformed
and expanded drastically. In addition, during 2005, is when Youtube took off and started storing
and retrieving videos for the public. Twitter was then launched in 2006 as a social networking
site that let members send and receive messages called tweets. By experience with using Twitter
you can only send 140 words/ characters to one another and they can be seen by anyone unless
you set your controls to be a private account. However, if you add a hashtag to one of your tweets
it can be seen by anyone that searches that hashtag and is related to one anothers tweets regardless
of your privacy settings. . In Friends Without Borders by Dan Fletcher he argues that Facebook is
using its capabilities to get users to share more information that may be critical to their success but
not yours. Facebook

Disadvantages Of Industrialization
The Industrialization brought many changes to the United States after the devastating Civil War ,
which brought a many losses of life. At the same time, the war helped the country develop even
more materialistic. The Industrialization began in the United States in 1865 after the Civil War it
went developing for the next five decades. The first transactional railroad was completed in 1869
by workers from China that were paid poorly . There was many more inventions throughout the
Industrialization from 1869 1914 that helped the Nation developed. The Industrialization was a
process that helped the economy transform into something better and individual laborers are
replaced by mass productionand craftsman by assembly lines, but even though it meant maybe
more work to many s. This affected many due to the poorly paid laborers who worked hard and
did not get many advantages from that. It helped in ways that the economy grew even more and
better that helped society but not those who were poor. The Industrialization did not much helped
many of the workers, who appeared most likely to be immigrants, many of them and their families
lived in really bad conditions and had horrible working conditions as well with poor pay for the
amount of hours worked, that sometimes those mass productions consisted of child labor.
Industrialization impacted the lives of many including children who worked instead of going to
school to help support their families. Children back in 1908 1912 worked to get money and help
support financially their families many of these children did not attend school whatsoever. As
shown on document E we observe images of children working in factories, and having jobs that
an adult would have, these children would work to help parents with household. This impact was
negative because many children worked to help parents instead of having a childhood they
thought that they had to help parents out instead of attending school. On document H child labor
stopped for the good of the children, the U.S. set laws in which minors had to follow to be able to
maintain a job. Minors ober the age of sixteen years and under 18 may not be employed except
upon the presentation of a school enrollment certificate and permit

Egyptian Art Vs Byzantine Art
Throughout history, man has used several mediums to record the world they live in, whether it is
through writing or art. These mediums have also served not only as a way to represent the events
in history but also provide as a way to convey certain messages with hopes to teach, influence or
convince the viewers. Three periods in history, the Egyptian, the Roman, and the Byzantine, are
examples of cultures that used art as a mean to relate the earthly world with their religious beliefs.
With their art, the Egyptian aimed to paint the rulers as god kings, the Roman cultures represented
their gods and goddesses with humanlike actions, and lastly, the Byzantine period presented a
heavenly realm on earth.

For instance, in the Hagia Sophia Church created by Justinian during his reign, multiple windows
surround the base of the central dome, making the illusion that it is as if it was floating. The
windows appear as a golden chain from Heaven . With this innovative yet smoothly executed
iconography in the architecture of the church, worshipers were presented with a spiritual setting in
which they could bask in. Byzantine art established the churches as the second heaven.
However, the Byzantine not only created the image of heaven in their architectural structures, but
also in their mosaic paintings. The painting of Justinian, Bishop Maximianus, and attendants, is a
good example of how the Byzantine period set the scene against a golden background, a style
that has started in Late Antiquity to show that an event occurs in a heavenly place or a paradise
not bound by time or location. This gives the effect that the emperor is regarded as having the
ability to dwell not only on earth as a ruler but also participate in spiritual rites as favored by

Mainstrea Mainstream Media Analysis
Both professional and citizen journalist are vitally important to keeping the public apprised as to
significant happening across the globe. The advantage the citizen journalist has to report
instantaneously is invaluable. However, there simply are not enough professional journalist
available to be everywhere, at all times. The ability to inform the public, anytime, anyplace, is
priceless. The blogger skips the arduous process of the editor, the producer and the scheduled time
slot on the local television channel. Professional journalist are limited by neutrality. They report on
the opinions of others or current events, whereas the citizen journalist may steer the events or
opinions. Both are motivated by the opportunity to expose the truth, however where the
professional often searches for the truth, the truth simply finds the citizen journalist. The
independent citizen journalist, like the professional, risk being incarcerated or worse, by exposing
the truth. A price both are willing to pay. They should find a way to enhance each other by working

Mainstream media, however, is often limited by regulations or fed inaccurate information by way
of propaganda by local authorities, in the name of national security. Point in case, Nazi propaganda
before WWII. Historically, the truth has been portrayed in only the most flattering of light, when
the government controls media. Citizen journalist on the other hand, present all sides of the truth.
The good, the bad and the ugly. Because of this, arrests of citizen journalists are on the rise. Nations
are combatting free internet expression under the guise of being a threat to national unity. Citizen
journalism must expand throughout the globe to ensure that truth prevail and that human rights are

Essay on The Evolution of Reggae Music
The Evolution of Reggae Music
Reggae has sustained the test of time and remains one of the world s last genuine folk music. The
evolution of Reggae music can be traced back to the early 1900 s with Mento , which is a simple
music art form of Jamaican folk music with strong African roots. Reggae music is protest songs
against racism, corruption and injustice. It has close links with a religion based around the Bible
that is re interpreted from a black s perspective, Rastafarianism .
The key features of Reggae music are the 4/4 time signatures, the emphasised beats 2 and 4 of each
bar melody, the short repeated bass/guitar riffs, the syncopation, the pentatonic/ major/minor/blues

The first ever reggae tune was Nanny Goat , by Larry and Alvin. Millie Small, and her debut single
My Boy Lollipop was the perfect example of the success that this new generation of peppy horn
melodies and up tempo vocal sounds. My Boy Lollipop was the song responsible for creating a
massive explosion of Reggae music in the local industry. During the Reggae era, artists like Bob
Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, Jimmy Cliff, King Stich and Burning Spear started to
emerge and incorporate the offbeat syncopated music style of Reggae into their songs,
transforming the songs into popular hits. Bob Marley was born in 1945 and he first joined Peter
Tosh and Bunny Wailer to form The Wailers . Then he produced his own soul, rock steady
(romantic soul), ska and close harmony doo wop style songs, for example Catch a fire and I shot
the Sheriff .
With the war era of the 60 s approaching, reggae finally took form with a mellow beat, conscious
and emotional lyrics and bands that spoke the words of the people. The spiritual influence of
reggae captured fans worldwide and for the first time ever; reggae was a real influence
internationally. Bob Marley and the Wailers produced songs of hope and freedom that related to
the wars happening between Vietnam. The song War by Bob Marley and the Wailers impacted the
world. These reggae musicians were the

The Cold War Was A Conflict
The Cold War was a conflict in which the main parties were the United States of America (USA)
and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). This conflict lasted approximately forty five
years, and though there was no direct war in between the two nations, there were many
repercussions of the hostilities. Some effects were negative, like the prevention of peace treaties
being made between the East and the West, and the weakening of economies, but some were
positive. The Space Race was directly related to the Cold Wartensions, and without the competition
between the USA and the USSR over space exploration, many monumental breakthroughs in
technology would not have occurred.
Introduction: The Cold War was caused by a number of events and prejudices on the part of both
nations. Many events before World War II negatively impacted relations between the countries,
and during the war there were instances that developed tensions, like the delaying of D Day,
which the USSR believed was a conspiracy plot to weaken their forces. After the war, the attempts
of the USSR to expand their territory, and both governments solid opposition to the other s ideals
caused a rift that only grew over time. Studying the events which developed the Cold War, and the
effects that came with the Cold War will better the understanding of how these conflicts came to be,
and possibly prevent history from repeating itself. Realizing that the feud was not one sided can aid
in developing empathy for

Cellulose, Starch, Glycogen, Prion Disease and Cholesterol
1. Cellulose, starch, and glycogen are very similar, yet very different. Describe the process by
which each of these molecules is formed. Why does the subtle difference in how the simple sugar
monomers are bonded in starch and cellulose affect how the two molecules are used?
Cellulose is built from glucose molecules bonded covalently together through a process known
as hydrolysis. Hydrolysis is a chemical process in which a molecule of water is added to a
substance. Each alternating glucose ring of the cellulose molecule is flipped over and the water
molecule (H2O) has been split out leaving an oxygen molecule between each ring. This chain or
ribbon (the cellulose molecule) will continue for 3,000 to 5,000 glucose units. Starch is ... Show

4. Cholesterol gets a bad name because too much can cause problems for humans. Describe what
happens if someone has too much or too little cholesterol in their system. Having too much
cholesterol will cause atherosclerosis to a person. Atherosclerosis is the hardening of arteries
which is caused by the deposited plaque, a hard substance, on the artery walls. It is usually a
slow process that gets worse as a person gets older. The organ system most affected by high
cholesterol is the circulatory system, or the blood vessels. When atherosclerosis affects the
coronary arteries it will cause coronary artery disease, which puts a person at risk for having a
heart attack. When atherosclerosis affects the blood vessels that supply the brain it will cause
cerebral vascular disease, which puts a person at risk of having a stroke. Atherosclerosis may also
block blood flow to other vital organs, including the kidneys and intestines. On the other side, too
little cholesterol can also cause diseases to a person. Low levels of LDL cholesterol may increase
the risk of cancer, depression, anxiety, preterm birth and low birth weight for pregnant women. One
large study conducted by Dutch researchers found that men with low cholesterol levels showed a

The Monkey At My Car Window
The Monkey at My Car Window is a story about a situation that occurred with a monkey and two
businessmen on a woman s journey to the Taj Mahal. This story teaches us about India s culture,
both urban and rural, monkey s roles in Indian society, and how with a business mindset there is
always an opportunity for a business venture.
There are many clues into how Indian society runs in this story. These cultural clues come from
this story and they come from various aspects. There are cultural clues from Hinduism mythology
and from first hand accounts of Ms. Kralijevic s journey to the Taj Mahal. The cultural context of
India and its citizens that stems from Hindu mythology stem from how monkeys are perceived. The

I have been in a situation where a man approached me at a Cabelas (sporting goods store) and we
were talking about guns. This man said I was a very charismatic individual and he would like to
talk to me about a job opportunity. To make a long story short, this man was trying to sell me on
a pyramid scheme. I told the man I would have to think his offer over and never called the man
back. He tried to contact me many times, and I ignored his calls and text messages until he finally
stopped perusing the business venture. It was a cowardly way of dealing with the situation, but it
worked.
I would definitely visit the countryside in different countries looking for business. I believe that in
more rural areas, most of the time, businesses care more about the people they serve. With fewer
people to cater to they can focus on their consumers. Rural areas, to me, seem to have more
interpersonal communications and can be more attentive to their consumer s needs.
In an event like the one told in the story the only way I prepare myself is by making sure the
doors are locked. Otherwise, if you are in an unknown location, it is kind of hard to prepare for an
unknown situation like street vendors pestering you. And if I was in the situation that the Deputy
Mayor of New Delhi was I would have more than likely done the same thing, hopefully without the
tragic ending. When monkeys attack I would do one of two things, fight the attackers or throw

  • 2. The Brain Is The Most Important Components Of The Human Brain The brain is the greatest, the most fascinating and the most complex organ of the human been. According to Dr. Wolfe, the human brain weighs about three pound. Humans do not feel its weight because it is full of fluids and it is floating. The human brain consumes ten times more oxygen of all the humans body parts and 25% of the total energy produced by the body. It is not the largest part of the humans body, but it is one of the most important parts. Through the years educators were like doctors giving certain treatment to their patients without being sure what the disease was. If the first treatment given did not work they gave another treatment and so on. Nowadays technology has help to study how animals and humans brainworks. It also has helped to discover how and where information is manipulated within the brain during the learning process. To discover how the brain works, the brain was divided in many parts. According to the book, the brain structures are cerebellum, brain stem, temporal lobe, broca s area, frontal lobe, motor cortex, sensory cortex, parietal lobe, wernicke s area, occipital lobe, hypothalamus and pituitary gland (Bohlin, Durwin, Reese Weber, 2012). The major lobes of the brain are frontal, occipital, parental and temporal and each of them has different functions during the learning process. Frontal lobe is responsible for higher standard thinking. According to the book, during the learning process, frontal lobe controls attention, creative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Romanticism In Young Goodman Brown Dependent Humans People tend to put their faith and hopes on other people, and they let them down, hurt them emotionally. Emotions fluctuate and one cannot help but be upset or be enraged, this is what the Romanticism Movement fueled itself on. Human emotion, nature, religion, and love are all factors of Romanticism. Romantic characteristics can be found in literature and are expressed by people throughout the Romantic Era from how they considered human potential and personality more valuable than reason. When reading Young Goodman Brownby Nathaniel Hawthorne, someone can identify and understand the ideas of Romanticism and the influence the idea had on American literature from how they focus on a person s beliefs and inner struggles. This story relates to Romanticism from how the story shows Goodman Brown s love and care for Faith, how evil is within every human being, and how Goodman Brown loses his faith in all goodness of humanity when he sees Faith turn over to the dark side at the Devil s ceremony. Love is shown in Hawthorne s story by how Goodman Brown loves and cares about Faith. When the Devil is trying to persuade Goodman Brown to follow him to the ceremony, Goodman Brown uses his love for Faith as a reason of why he must not go. Goodman Brown tells the Devil that There is my wife, Faith. It would break her dear little heart; and I d rather break my own (Hawthorne p.24). This was sadly not enough to keep him from going to the ceremony, for he later teleports ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Effects Of Smoking On The United States Smoking is established as a recognized cause of cancer, lung disease, coronary heart disease, and stroke(US Public Health Service,1964,Doll R 1976,1994, US Department of Health and Human Services,1989).it is considered to be the single most important avoidable cause of premature morbidity and mortality in the world. WHO has estimated that there are about 1100 million smokers worldwide; this represents about one third of the global population aged over 15 years (WHO,1997). About 73% of these smokers (700 million males, 100 million females) are in developing countries; in industrialized countries there are 200 million male smokers and 100 million female smokers. In the over 15 year old population of developing countries, it is estimated that about 48% of males and 7% of females are smokers. The corresponding figures for industrialized countries are 42% for males and 24% for females (WHO,1997). Logistic Regression Model: The logistic regression models has wide ranging applications from determining the population growth and its determinants to applications for predicting and analyzing qualitative data and in epidemiological studies. Logistic regression model postulates relationship between the log odds of a disease and the risk factors. A regression predicts the probability that an observation falls into one of two categories of a dichotomous dependent variable based on one or more independent variables that can be either continuous or categorical. The conflict began on 15 March 2011, with popular demonstrations that grew nationwide by April 2011. These demonstrations were part of the wider Middle Eastern protest movement known as the Arab Spring. Protesters demanded the resignation of President Bashar al Assad, whose family has held the presidency in Syria since 1971, as well as the end to over four decades of Baath Party rule. • 10. Neorealism Kim Jong-Na North Korea s nuclear program is making advances daily. This authoritarian regime, which rules over approximately twenty five million people, has to take calculated actions in order to remain relevant internally, as well as internationally. The nuclear program is raising concerns across the international system. At a superficial level, Kim Jong un is perceived as a mentally unable tyrant, but in reality, is performing calculated actions. North Koreas nuclear program identifies power balancing actions. Through military power, Kim Jong un is seeking to maximize long term viability of the regime. This phenomenon that best explains this is through the neorealist perspective. Theoretical Foundation Neorealism or neorealism relies on the assumption that states are only interested in survival. The main actors in this perspective are great powers. These states are considered rational actors. However, one state can never be certain of the actions of other states. It is because of this structure that these states operate in a state of anarchy within the system. Due to this structure, states are always in a state of fear. This fear results from the intentions of other states. The best action for a state that wants security is for the state become more powerful. The stronger, and more powerful a state becomes relative to other states, it reduces the likelihood of a conflict. This is in the relative senses, not absolute. Thus states will always be looking to exploit opportunities ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Policing in Regards to Race, Gender and Ethnicity In the United States the issue of Policing in regards to race, gender and ethnicity has been an ongoing reform in which state and local legislatures have been dealing with as of recent years. Although there have been legislation on equal opportunity, the primary significance in promoting equality has been the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The Civil Rights Act is a federal legislation, which in part bars discrimination based on race or gender. Employers from local and state agencies are all affected by this legislation. To enforce and see that the legislation is carried out accordingly, the government created the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. However, prior to the Civil Rights Act, we take a look back into the historical overview of policing within the United States. Policing in America is a transplant of English heritage policing model. During the early colonial times, formal policedepartments had yet to have been created. Over time outbreak social disorder and crime erupted causing for a more formal police to model. Formal policing model began to arise in the late 1800 s and leaders at the time attempted to reduce control of the police by politicians. As the 20th century rolled in, the focus began to latch closely on the thought of policing to be an actual professional force. Google will strive to make improvements wherever it can but will not change things working effortlessly. Once organized, managers should direct employees on the goals of the company. Managers should oversee the staff to ensure procedures and processes are adhered to and to look for those directives not working. Controlling is the last function of management. Controlling involves establishing performance standards and evaluates employees. A manager should not reduce the standards to solve an individual performance problem. • 14. Sikh Diet Research Paper Another important Sikh ideal is that we should not eat things that result from the killing of an animal. It is not correct however to say that the Sikh diet is a vegan diet. It is adequate to eat or drink something that an animal produces but it is not adequate to eat or drink something that comes from the killing of an animal or living being in general. In the Siri Guru Granth Sahib it says, Whosoever takes Marijuana, fish and alcoholic drinks; all his pilgrimages, fasts and performance of religious practices shall go waste (SGGS 1377). The reason for this is because killing a living being for your own benefit is seen as an unrighteous action. It is deemed unethical to kill, and it is believed that God resides in all including animals and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One way the caste system is abolished is through langar. Langar is the free kitchen and dinning hall, or other provision for serving meals that must be attached to the Gurdwaras. The purpose was to clearly eliminate caste on the territory of the Gurdwara and so to eliminate it as either as a means or a hindrance to liberation (Mcleod 121). A Sikhpractice in which everyone sits down on the floor together and takes part in eating langar together is seen at all Gurdwaras. This is an important Sikh practice because it allows everyone to sit at one level and eat the same meal. No one person is higher than another and that is the goal of this practice as mentioned. Sikhism focuses largely on equality and today it is still seen that equality in all is not seen. Sikhs fight for equality as a whole in America especially after the 9/11 attacks but there is a lack of equality seen in the Sikh diaspora itself. For example many of the Sikhs still believe in the caste system. This is especially seen in marriage. A lot of the parents will only allow their children to marry within their own caste. This goes against Guru Nanak and the Sikh religion as a whole because it erases the platform of all being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Laocoön Rarely is the modern student of classical literature (be they trapped in class, forced to stare at their worn copy of the Aeneid, or nose deep in a freshly reprinted copy of the Iliad) privy to the primal clashes depicted by Homer and Virgil alike. Modernity has triumphed in the wake of the latter half of the twentieth century; today we view the struggles of peoples separated by vast swathes of time and geography under a sanitized, clinical eye. Yet those who look upon the Hellenistic work, Laocoön and his Sons, are yanked thousands of years into the past. The sculpture places the viewer in a vicious, futile struggle against the will of the gods. A stunning union of dynamism and torrid emotion, the Laocoön Group serves as a legacy to Grecian... To see a work so boldly depict the physicality and mentality behind the fear of death is striking to me. No other modern medium can properly compare; television and movies are quick, distracting, our suspension of disbelief is broken the moment we step up to grab popcorn. The silver and miniature screen s scene of anguish is quietly ushered away to make way for something else. The stone is permanent; the viewer may look away, but for many, including myself, the scene is etched into my mind. Thus, the artist is successful the lesson is sown into the unconscious, the themes may not be discussed, or pondered upon, but still they linger. It is my firm conviction that an effective piece of artwork is stepped in a visual language that the unconscious understands, registering the work with chills down the spine. Phenolphthalein Indicator Test: CO2 (g) + H2O(l) H2CO3(aq) H2CO3(aq) + 2NaOH(aq) Na2CO3(aq) + 2H2O(l) How would the results of both tests be affected if you performed the tests immediately after vigorously exercising for several minutes? Explain. Performing vigorous exercise requires a high demand of energy in order to be accomplished, the body adapts to this change by increasing the rate of aerobic cellular respiration which would produce more energy to meet the needs. As a result there would be much more carbon dioxide being exhaled from the body as it is one of the waste products produced during aerobic cellular respiration. CO2 is specifically formed during the Pyruvate oxidation and Kreb Cycle stage of the cellular respiration. To exemplify during pyruvate oxidation one of the steps is a decarboxylation reaction in which the carboxyl group of pyruvate is removed to from CO2. Overall for one glucose molecule two molecules of CO2 is released during pyruvate oxidation as glycolysis yields two pyruvate molecules. Furthermore the Krebs Cycle also produces CO2 molecules during the oxidation of isocitrate which produces a ketoglutarate. Another CO2 molecule is also produced during the oxidation of a ketoglutarate. This reaction produces the molecule succinyl CoA. As a result two CO2 molecules are produced for one acetyl CoA. These points exemplify how the increase rate of cellular respiration would increase the rate of CO2 being exhaled. In connection to the lab investigation this would speed up the rate of reactions as there would be a much higher concentration of CO2 being exhaled compared to when the body is at rest. As a result this would increase the amount of product being produced because of the increase of CO2 in the reaction. Due to which the lab experiment would occur at a higher rate and it would be faster as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They include Fevers, and chills, being the most prevalent in addition headaches, myalgia/arthralgia, and poor appetite are very common side effects. In new research described by Cox Singh et al, abdominal pain, gastrointestinal symptoms, and diarrhea were all present in fatal cases that could have been prevented if the quick recognition of the infection was achieved by treating medical professionals. As the scope of paramedic practice is growing exponentially the knowledge of such clinical presentations could result in faster diagnosis, and treatment if presented with the infection. This article covers the present education and knowledge of the clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment, pathogenesis, and epidemiology of P. knowlesi malaria but unfortunately has only been drawn from a small number of clinical case reports, both and moderately limited field studies. The data collected indicates that P.knowlesi malaria is primarily categorized as a zoonotic disease with primates as the major hosts, mainly long and short tailed macaques. Furthermore, the research gathered shows that even though P.knowlesi infections ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Proof of Heaven Essay Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon s Journey into the Afterlife Abigail Alvarado Rhetoric Composition English 1302 September 18, 2014 Abstract Eben Alexander is a neurosurgeon who believed for many years that when people explained their near death experiences it was just the hard wiring of the brain. Of course ,though, he had refined medical training. It wasn t until Alexander had caught a rare disease which caused him to fall into a coma and had a near death experience himself. She was also riding on a butterfly wing, as he recalls, and it just seems to be a way a novelist would describe an angel guiding someone lost in heaven. There was nothing to make it sound different or stand out. It makes it hard to believe it s Alexander trying to prove heaven is real rather than just writing a story. Later on in the book Alexander talks about the core where he saw [b]ig, puffy, pink white [clouds] that showed up sharply against the deep blue black sky (p. 45). Everyone who thinks of heaven, thinks of clouds. It is not uncommon for anyone to describe heaven that way. It is very stereotypical and made it no different that anyone else s image of heaven. A sound, huge and booming like a glorious chant, came from above, and I wondered if the winged beings were producing it (Alexander, 2012, p. 45) is also another stereotype of what people say you d hear when you re in heaven. Again, not enough proof. There was a section where he mentions how he came into contact with God and received knowledge that was not taught but stored. It seemed that everyone who might have gone to church had heard the knowledge of what God was giving to Alexander. The two are sometimes used interchangeably, sometimes used as opposites (Baym and Levine 902). Realism and Naturalism emerged in numerous aspects of life, but are most evident in literature. The purpose of realism is to demonstrate idealistic views of life in favor of detailed, accurate descriptions of the everyday (Baym and Levine 902). An example of this is when she states, In the street below a peddler was crying his wares. The notes of a distant song which some one was singing reached her faintly, and countless sparrows were twittering in the eaves (556). This line shows how sharp she can be now that she does not have her husband s powerful will bending hers (556). Although it did have a few positive impacts, it mostly effected the country negatively. While Manifest Destiny brought the U.S. expansion along with immigration, it created inequity and promoted war which were not reasonable consequences for the countries progression. Those who heavily influenced the idea of Manifest Destiny like John O Sullivan, who also created it, said that it was what God wanted and therefore it was acceptable to do whatever was needed for the U.S. to obtain more land. O Sullivan opted for a war of conquest against Mexico. The article by Thomas Hietala states that leaders and private groups continued to seek more land from Native Americans, Central American countries and European governments. There is nothing like high school football in Texas, it is the best thing to happen to many of the people that live there. Winning a high school state championship in Texas can make someone a hero for the rest of their lives. Many of these people do not know how to live with themselves after their days of football are over. They grow up and live through their kids. The Affirmative Of Affirmative Action Essay Many affirmative action efforts have been made since the end of the Civil War in order to remedy the results of hundreds of years of slavery, segregation and denial of opportunity for groups that face discrimination. Many African Americans such as President Barack Obama, Senator Cory Booker, the writer Toni Morrison, the literary scholar Henry Louis Gates, media star Oprah Winfrey, and rap star Jay Z have achieved positions of power and influence in the wider society (Giddens, Duneier, Appelbaum, Carr). This object of this paper is to understand why affirmative actionis still needed in the United State by discussing the differences between whites and racial/ethnic minorities access to education and employment. Racial Inequality in Educational Attainment in America Historically, African American, Latino and Native American students were educated in wholly segregated schools whose funding rates were several times lower than schools made up of all white students. These minority students were also being excluded from many higher institutions (Darling Hammond). When looking for a single cause of the peloponnesian war none can be found. Over time many events contributed to the eventual war between Sparta and Athens. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Spartans were not eager for war. After the Persian wars there was a development of Athenian control over the commercial and economic life of Greece. This growth was caused by the Persian wars themselves. Athens faced a mighty foe in Persia and therefore formed the Delian League. This league was an alliance of cities based around Athens. Each city contributed funds to the construction and maintenance of a vast navy for use against the Persian threat. After the wars Athens dominated the Delian league and declared the contributions from each city mandatory even though the Persian menace was gone. Over time these allied cities came under direct Athenian control and the Athenian Empire began to grow. The large navy was still maintained after the war and Athens, already a naval power in the region tightened its grip on the neighboring waters including those that surrounded the peloponnese. This had the effect of enclosing Sparta s peninsula in a blanket of Athenian naval power. To the Spartans this development was one of considerable worry. The benefit of tort reform for defendant is the financial savings. However, a cap placed on medical malpractice cases and other cases that are of negligence would standardize the monetary compensation regardless of the damage. In this essay, both sides of the argument are discussed, with a focus on medical malpractice tort reform. Proof of Malpractice For a plaintiff to triumph a claim of medical malpractice for negligence, four elements must be established. The first element is proving the defendant owed a duty of care to the plaintiff. The second is to show that the defendant breached the duty to the plaintiff. The third is to show that the plaintiff was harmed and experienced damages. Finally, the fourth is to show that the plaintiff was harmed by the actions of the defendant (Greenberg, 2009). Although there were venatores who hunted animals, in gladiatorial combat animals were never used. They also generally fought in flat arenas, with no fancy things like pits to fall into. Gladiatorial combat also typically only occurred man to man. Everything shown in the movies is hyper exaggerated in comparison to what actually occurred because Hollywood cares more about keeping the viewers interested, and dazzling them with wondrous images of Ancient Rome, then being accurate. Even things like the armour many of the gladiators wore was not accurately depicted. In the movies some of them were shirtless and did not wear helmets, which was definitely not the reality because they generally always wore helmets, armour and tunics. They would wear these things for protection because, contrary to the movies, gladiators did not fight to the death. They were actually highly valuable for entertainment, and cost a lot of money to train, so their lives mattered to the sponsors, therefore it was rare that they were killed in combat. Finding out this information really has changed my perspective on all movies regarding Ancient Rome, but specifically the ones that include gladiatorial combat, because next time I see a new film I will be aware of what is real or fake and this will force me to make others aware of these inaccuracies as ... Each author in his or her own way masterfully employs images in order to better support their overall claims. Within her text, Workers Go Shopping, Milanesio expertly employs multiple photos of Argentinians moving about their daily lives to illustrate how the importation of western culture so greatly affected the emerging middle, and working class consumers. This gives great backing to her thesis of how the emerging working class so greatly affected the transformation of Argentina into a modern 20th century nation. Photos of the Argentinian people enjoying modern luxuries like dance halls and vacations to the beach, are accompanied by advertisements from magazines and street billboards which further illuminate the consumer culture which had engulfed the nation by mid century. Milanesio also employs images to illustrate how the importation of western culture also propagated gender roles for not only women, but men as well. Documents taken directly from Argentinian media of the day can be seen encouraging women to aspire for beauty, but also submissiveness. The propagation of the housewife myth, visible here in the Argentinian media, was a very prevalent force in the society of the United States at this time and can be assumed to have been heavily influenced by their neighbors to the north. Ads directed to women for sewing machines and kitchen appliances were mirrored by ones pointed to men which embedded ideals of masculinity and hard work. These advertisements not only encouraged an overall image of what Argentinian people should aspire to, but also expanded the consumer market, thereby promoting consumerism. These photographs of Argentinians enjoying the newfound luxuries of modernity and consumer society gives great backing to Milanesio s thesis of how the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Aeronautical Telecommunication Network ( Atn ) 2.3 AERONAUTICAL TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORK (ATN) : 2.3.1 Introduction In the early 1980s, the international civil aviation community started to express concern about the limitations on existing facilities and procedures, and their inability to cope with increasing air traffic in the future years. Consequently Special Committee on FANS was established to study, identify and assess new concepts and technology in the field of air navigation, including satellite technology, and also to make recommendations thereon for the development of air navigation for international civil aviation over a period of 25 years. A major result was the global Communications, Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) concept which identified the use of data communications and of satellite based systems as being the two major areas of improvement to the then existing systems. The CNS/ATM concept was further developed and redefined, after which the Aeronautical Telecommunication Network (ATN) became an integral part of CNS/ATM systems. The ATN comprises application entities and communication services which allow ground, air ground and avionics data subnetworks to interoperate. This is done by adopting common interface services and protocols based on International Standards. The ATN has been designed to provide data communication services to Air Traffic Service (ATS) provider organizations and Aircraft Operating agencies for the following types of communication traffic: 1. When the Romans became industrious in trade and commerce, they soon realized that they needed a method of counting, assuming all they had at that time were fingers to count on. The numeral for the number five, V , came from the v that your hand makes between the thumb and fore finger. IV was used for the number four by subtracting the first letter, I from V . The first transactional railroad was completed in 1869 by workers from China that were paid poorly . There was many more inventions throughout the Industrialization from 1869 1914 that helped the Nation developed. The Industrialization was a process that helped the economy transform into something better and individual laborers are replaced by mass productionand craftsman by assembly lines, but even though it meant maybe more work to many s. This affected many due to the poorly paid laborers who worked hard and did not get many advantages from that. It helped in ways that the economy grew even more and better that helped society but not those who were poor. Byzantine art established the churches as the second heaven. However, the Byzantine not only created the image of heaven in their architectural structures, but also in their mosaic paintings. The painting of Justinian, Bishop Maximianus, and attendants, is a good example of how the Byzantine period set the scene against a golden background, a style that has started in Late Antiquity to show that an event occurs in a heavenly place or a paradise not bound by time or location. This conflict lasted approximately forty five years, and though there was no direct war in between the two nations, there were many repercussions of the hostilities. Some effects were negative, like the prevention of peace treaties being made between the East and the West, and the weakening of economies, but some were positive. The Space Race was directly related to the Cold Wartensions, and without the competition between the USA and the USSR over space exploration, many monumental breakthroughs in technology would not have occurred. Introduction: The Cold War was caused by a number of events and prejudices on the part of both nations. Many events before World War II negatively impacted relations between the countries, and during the war there were instances that developed tensions, like the delaying of D Day, which the USSR believed was a conspiracy plot to weaken their forces. After the war, the attempts of the USSR to expand their territory, and both governments solid opposition to the other s ideals caused a rift that only grew over time. Describe the process by which each of these molecules is formed. Cellulose is built from glucose molecules bonded covalently together through a process known as hydrolysis. Hydrolysis is a chemical process in which a molecule of water is added to a substance. Each alternating glucose ring of the cellulose molecule is flipped over and the water molecule (H2O) has been split out leaving an oxygen molecule between each ring.
