Devil Wears Prada Analysis
The Devil Wears Prada
The fashion centric, The Devil Wears Prada showcases a journalism major from Northwestern
University enter an entire new world of clothes, make up, bags, shoes and accessories. My primary
purpose of getting hitched to this film at the very beginning was its title. I guess it s prominent that
the word fashion reaches a woman s ear faster than the speed of lightning striking the sky and
Prada being the most popular brand drew me closer to it.
The Devil Wears Prada was released in 2006 by Fox 2000 Pictures, directed by the talent house
David Frankel(best known for the pilot episode of Entourage ) and based on its book adaption
written by Lauren Weisberger (who is a former assistant of Vogueeditor in chief Anna ... Show

The famous scene shot here was when Miranda doesn t want to let go of her job and refuses to
let Nigel (Runway Magazine stylist) work with James Holt (rising fashion star) as a creative
director and instead offers that post to someone else. This part of the movie took my breath away
emotionally. I was as shaken as Andrea was in the film.
One of the best elements of the film is its pack of wolves; that s the cast. Each character, whether
playing a small or a big role comes off as relatable. For example, When Andrea loses herself and
is absorbed in swirling costumes, her boyfriend Nate (Adrian Greiner) and her college friends
come to her rescue. Nate explains to her how she has become one of the Runway girls she used
to make fun of in the beginning. Too lost, she comes with a conclusion of taking a break from
their relationship. Her friend Lily (Tracie Thoms) also refuses to support her and states her actions
as demeaning. This dramatic point definitely is reality. We see these downfalls happen to us,
friends and everyone we are close to. It connects with the audience easily.
The Devil Wears Prada comes with an edging climax where Andrea has to choose whether she
wants to remain this quintessential damsel or go back to who she really is. In the movie, we see

Technology In Modern Society
Did you know that the average person in this day and age spends nearly 3.9 years of their entire
life using some sort of electronical device? In today s modernized society, we are greatly
influenced by the uses of what technology has to offer. Not only does it play a key role in most
of our lives, but it has revolutionized the way we actually live. Simply look around you and the
chances are you will be faced with a wide array of different electronic technologies that have taken
over the way we live. The use of modernized technologyis something rather new, but it is here to
stay for years to come. This being said, in today s society, we are simply not mentally capable of
understanding the true evils of what the use of technology has in storage for us.
Technology has drastically changed throughout the years. From beginning with simple tools, to
the current creation of mega powered modernized computers capable of endless possibilities and
the list goes on. Whether or not one believes in all this technology is hard to say. But one thing
is certain, technology has and will continue to control our lives for hundreds upon hundreds of
years to come unless we can make a change. But the odds are,we will never change. The problem
with technology is that it makes life so much easier. From contacting someone across the world in
a matter of minutes with a couple clicks to controlling the minds and privileges of nearly half of
the world s population by simply making it rather easy to

The Myth Of Sisyphus
With everything going on with the upcoming presidential election, the political community has
been very prominent in society the past several months. While doing research on myths, I came
across The Myth of Sisyphus and immediately made many connections between the two subjects.
Both of these topics have a lot to do with manipulation and deception. With politics especially,
people today have a lot of opinions on the dynamics of that community. They both deal with
continuous repetition and constantly giving your all to make accomplish a task. What is interesting
though is exactly to what extent can The Myth of Sisyphus be related to our modern day political
community? The main gist of The Myth of Sisyphus is that a sinner named Tartarus was

The Storm Personification
In the tale the weather is the stimulant that causes the events in the story to evolve. The storm
functions as an emblem for forbidden desire. The hail causes Alcee and Calixta to carry out this
illegitimate affair. The personification of the storm in this story clearly has some sort of menacing
purpose. Somber clouds that were rolling with sinister intention from the west, accompanied by a
sullen, threating roar (Chopin 1). This calls Bibi s attention making it clear that this stormis and will
be a treacherous one. In the story The Storm there is two storms that are taking place. The first
storm arises from nature causing thunder to rumble a head .The second storm is one of lust and

This flexible muscular canal also has a clitoris and the sole purpose of the clitoris is to provide
pleasure. The vagina is the innate birthright granted to the women. To a Victorian woman her
home was her kingdom, where she lives at ease. It was believed she could never be tempted at
home because temptation would make a woman do something she did not want to do. It gave
her the desire to have something or want something that is wrong and that wrong is evil. If her
home is her harbor where she remains safe she should not experience these feelings. She felt very
warm and often stopped to mop her face on which the perspiration gathered in beads. She
unfastened her white sacque at the throat. (Chopin 1) .Before Alcee even arrived to her house
Calixta was already feeling hot. Calixta allows temptation to come inside her house .Temptation
comes inside her house in the form of Alcee. Once she allows him to come inside she knows will

Energy Producing Hot Water For Cogeneration
The proposed project focuses on developing an electrical generation thermal system which
generates 5KW
power producing hot water for cogeneration. The Rankine cycle is used as the base system for the
design. The
solar energy is utilized in the project as a thermal source of heat to the system. The obtained heat
energy is
used to heat the system with overall system efficiency to be 60.4% and generate power of 5KW to
be used for
cogeneration and the waste heat recovered is stored in a battery which is utilized to produce hot
water even in
the absence of sunlight. The thermodynamic properties of the system were analyzed and calculated.
The
second law efficiency, irreversibility of the system components, maximum system efficiency and
the net work
done by the components of the system were majorly focused and calculated. The economic analysis
of the
system were performed by taking into account all the system components and found the system
design to be
more economical for small scale applications.
Introduction:
In today s world fossil fuels and other non renewable resources are on the verge of depletion.
Research is
going on in implementing natural resources as thermal source of heat to power any thermodynamic
cycle.
Natural sources are now being employed to decrease the rising costs of alternative fuels such as
fossil fuels,
coal etc. Solar thermal energy is one such energy resource that is being widely used. Rankine cycle

A Report On Auto Maintenance
When it comes to auto maintenance, your tyres are one of, if not the most, vital components of
your vehicle. You might be thinking, Harjeev, everyone knows this already , and you re not
wrong. Yet, despite this being largely common knowledge amongst drivers, a majority of auto
owners across the world tend to delay or neglect their maintenance altogether. According to
TyreSafe s 2015 Tyre Safety Month study 65% of UK drivers (out of 102,000 tyres they
surveyed) needed to check their treads more often. Not only does regular service and
maintenance reduce your service costs, as scheduled maintenance outweighs large repairs, it
impacts your safety. TyreSafe s study painted a potentially frightening image of UK roads with
over a quarter of tyres (27.3%) having an illegal tread depth of 1.6mm or less. That s 10 million
tyres in 2015 alone that were potentially illegal! If that didn t catch your attention, maybe the
penalty will. In the UK, you could face a ВЈ2500 fine and three penalty points per illegal tyre on
your vehicle! Imagine how much you could have saved when comparing the price of new tyres
against potentially ВЈ10000 in fines. Let s delve into why you cannot put off your tyre care. If you
aren t maintaining your tyres, expect to see a decline in your vehicle s braking, cornering and gas
mileage while your CO2 emissions go up. Just think, neglecting your tyres affects everyone s
safety, your wallet and the environment in one fell swoop! Let s pretend that wasn t

Unequal Pay Among Women
In the status quo, it is estimated that eighteen million women are left to live in poverty. (NWLC,
2014). This leads to women struggling to make ends meet. It s important to raise awareness for
those whose voices have been silenced due to their lower status in society as they cannot be heard
on their own. Many people tend to believe that both genders are equally exposed at the risk of
poverty. However, it is statistically proven that women have higher poverty rates due to unequal
pay rates, low paying occupations, a rise in divorcerates, and a growing number of single mothers
from unplanned pregnancies. Worldwide, women are likely to have unjust pay rates which is a
significant reason for poverty among women. According to the Institute for Women s Policy
Research, women receive 80 cents for every dollar a man receives. (IWPR, 2015). Not only does
the difference in pay rates result in women receiving lower salaries than men, but it results in
women having to rationalize the low amount of money that they do receive. It is difficult to live
in a world where resources are costly with a low salary. According to the United Nations
Statistics Division, ...consistent with other studies, men s average salary was higher than women
s average salary. (Barry A. Gerhart, 2015). This informs us of one of the reasons as to why
women have a higher poverty rate. The unequal pay has been a strong issue debated in current
society by many people. However, there has yet to be a solution to a

Porter s Five Forces In Automobile Industry
3.2External Environment Analysis Industry Analysis (Porter s Five Forces Analysis)
Porter s Five Forces Framework Model analyses the competitive forces within the environment in
which a company operates, to assess the potential for profitability in an industry. Porter consists of
threat of new entrants, threat of substitute, buyer power, supplier power, and rivalry among
existing competitors. The change in any forces normally requires firms to observe the market and
make the decision in overall change of industry information. Firms are able to apply their core
competencies, business model or network to achieve a profit above the industry average.
Threat of New Entrants
Profitable industries that yield high returns will attract new firms. New competitors may force
existing firms to be more efficient and to learn how to compete on new dimensions. Threat of
new entrants is high when it is easy for new competitors to enter a market ad low when there are
significant entry barriers to entering a market. These entry barriers make it difficult for new firms
to enter an industry and often place them at a competitive disadvantage even when they are able to
enter. The domestic cars that have produce in Malaysia are Proton and Produa. This can be seemed

Lamb To The Slaughter Essay
Lamb to the slaughter is generally used to describe a situation at which a person blindly enters
without any knowledge of the danger, the same can be said for the characters in this short story.
The story s title also works as a dark double entendre, which is a word or phrase used in a way
which conveys two meanings of the ultimate outcomes. Dahl s audience for his book would be a
slightly older generation, maybe for people who have had trouble in past relationships,
furthermore people who were cheated on and anyone who is interested in ironic humor could be
a target audience for this story. Mary Maloney is the model 1950s housewife, dutiful to a fault
and takes pleasure in providing for her husband with a relaxing and loving place to come home
to. Roald Dahl makes references to Mary s large, dark, calm eyes which indicates her harmless,
domestic personality, he also referred to again when she persuaded the police officers to eat the
leg of lamb, which helps the readers to discover how deceptive Mary s appearance is. The one
most striking thing about Lamb to the Slighter is not Mary Maloney who gets away with murder,
or that she fed the murder weapon to the police officers but her completely unexpected change in
her meek, loving character which motivates her to kill her husband with a violent blow to the...

The expectations for Estella to be the embodiment of Miss Havisham s revenge were too harsh for

Estella fails to meet the standard she was raised to meet. Estella had to deal with the formations of
her expectations in her childhood. If she wasn t climbing the ranks of society, she was dropping
the spirits of everyone around her. To start her story, you must understand who she came from and
how she was given these expectations. Her parents were common in laws and they ended up
losing her after her mother was charged for murder, and Estella was taken away. She was then

Advantages Of Urbanization In China
The urbanization in China
As Joseph E Stiglitz who won the Nobel economic prize said, Two forces will shape the 21st
century: urbanisation in China and technological innovation in the US. Urbanization is such an
important issue for China and the world. Research figures indicate the urbanization rate has grown
to 45% from 13% since 1949 and the government estimates it will increase to 60% in 2030. Some
researchers have shown urbanization in China was very successful and got many great
accomplishments. On the other side, many other researchers also revealed critical opinions to what
it has done in the past. They also worried about the future of urbanization in China. Through this
report, This report will examine what benefits and disadvantages did urbanization process bring to
China and How is the future of it.
QпјљWhy did China keep focusing on urbanization as one of the top agenda items?
So far, twenty five of the world s largest 100 cities are in China. After Chinese economic reform,
those first 14 opening harbour cities and 4 special economic zones set great examples for other
cities. With developing and growing of those cities and a big influx of investments from overseas
investors, there were more and more occupation opportunities be required. Then people from
counties and the countryside began to move to cities for better lives so that the manpower engine
was formed which was based on the large population of China. Cheap and endless manpower

How Does Ray Bradbury Use Light And Dark In Fahrenheit 451
Title
In Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451, he uses light and dark as contrasts is used as a motif to help
further develop differences between people in society through characterization and plot. Light
symbolizes knowledge and purity; on the other hand, darkness shows ignorance in the society,
while also being a form of safety. Bradbury uses light versus dark to compare purity and ignorance
through characterization. Before Montag found the value behind books, he would come home
from his job of burning books. The first night of meeting Clarisse while walking home from work,
he describes her face as a fragile milk crystal with a soft and constant light in it. It was not a

Analysis Of Mary Shelly s Winning Frankenstein Essay
There are many books and movies, both fictional and non fictional that deal with some form of
criminological theory. While there are some that deal with that subject to either a more or lesser
extent, the interest of the audience ultimately depends on what events the story line includes and
how interesting did they make that specific event. I have decided to deal with 1818, award
winning Frankenstein by Mary Shelly. In the beginning of the story, a man name Robert Walton
is searching for a passage that connects Russia, the Pacific Ocean, and The Arctic Ocean. Having
spent weeks out there alone with his crew, he is shocked to see man nearly frozen to death out
there. After rescuing the man, he tells Walton that his name is Victor Frankenstein. Walton
frequently writes his sister who lives in England and tells her about Victor s terrible experience.
Victor is from Switzerland and had been an extremely, very brilliant child with a strong will to
have more knowledge. When Victor went off to University to quench his thirst for knowledge, a

Julius Caesar And Napoleon Bonaparte
History holds many great and inspiring leaders, some being remembered by many as kings of
their time. Two of these incredible individuals are Julius Caesar and Napoleon Bonaparte, both
legends and incredible rulers of their time. These men represented what a leader should be, and
exactly what made leaders so powerful. Although these two men lived in completely different time
periods there are similarities and differences that connect the two. Napoleon Bonaparte was born
on August 15, 1769 in Ajaccio, Corsica. He came from a respected family, the family strayed away
from being involved with the military. Napoleon joined the military, and developed a skill as a

He held a grudge for being exiled and strove to once again become powerful, even more so than
before. Even though he returned to France a few years after to better constitutionalize France, he
failed and returned to exile. Napoleon was a magnificent leader, even though he became over
zealous and power hungry, Napoleon was a driven man, never secure, never satisfied. Power is
my mistress, he said. He demonstrated the charisma and intelligence necessary to lead a nation. He
was a well respected leader that set the stage for many others to come, and that is revered by many.
Julius Caesar was the roman emperor from 49 44 BCE and was regarded as a great and powerful
leader. His family was very well respected and helped him attain the tools necessary to lead. He
was a supporter of the Populares, who were a political group that worked towards a better life for
the middle and lower class. He had an amazing amount of energy, physical and mental, and held
good health for most of his life. He inspired the public to follow him; thus, they named him
emperor of Rome. This led him to challenge authority in Rome and create the First Triumvirate, or
dominated by three powers. Caesar was a ruthless man, who did whatever he had to do in order to
maintain power. Caesar often did things that were seen as vile and even illegal, yet he did them to

Tracheal Replacement Report
The background of this report is based on the controversy surrounding thoracic surgeon, Paolo
Macchiarini. Macchiarini grew a reputation as a star surgeon for his work involving ground
breaking trachea transplants. He was viewed as a forerunner in the field of regenerative medicine
using both synthetic and biological scaffolds as trachea transplants. The transplants were seeded
with the patients own stem cells taken from bone marrow and placed in a machine where it rotated
in a solution designed to encourage cellgrowth. The impression was that the cells would divide and
turn into tracheal cells. These plastic trachea transplants proved deadly for his patients. Of the

Methods include the use foreign materials, nonviable tissue, autogenous tissue, tissue engineering,

The indications for tracheal replacement are lesions a region in an organ or tissue which has
suffered damage through injury or disease that can t be resected and reconstructed safely with end
to end anastomosis or long segment congenital stenosis, which cannot be effectively managed with
slide or patch tracheoplasty , (Haykal et al., 2014). Acquired lesions include malignancy, traumatic
injury, and subglottic or tracheal stenosis. The general limits for safe resection are about one half of
the tracheal length in adults and one third in small children. Very lengthy lesions that cannot be
safely removed and reconstructed primarily are managed palliatively with long term T tubes or
stents. The clinical course of these patients is usually complicated with multiple infections and
frequent hospital admissions. Therefore, a safe and dependable tracheal replacement remains an
important unmet

Ender s Game by Anna Colby
Don t grow up too fast, a mother might have once cooed to her little one. Not anymore. Children
are tested. If they re worth anything, they re taken to Battle School, where they train for war.
Nearly a century ago, the Buggers attacked Earth. Now humans thirst for revenge. Their goal: to

Ender Wiggin is pulled into this conflict, he finds potential in himself to become a great

second was, I ll bet that son of a gun, Card, put some symbolism up in that book. I wonder where
it is? It s taken me a while, but I think I ve figured it out. First, I want you to ask yourself: what is
a game? In some cases, a game is another place for people to go to escape the bores of everyday
life. In other cases, a game is the problem. The latter is the case for poor Ender. Games play a
major part in this story. So what is the author trying to portray here? There is a fine line between
games and reality, and the moment the line disappears, things get super screwy. This game knows
too much about me. This game tells filthy lies (page 119). Games played throughout the story
include Buggers and astronauts and the Battle School competitions, but I just want to focus on
the last game Ender plays: the actual war. Spoiler alert! I tried to avoid spoilers, I really did, but

Impact of Geography in Richard Russo s Novels Essay
Richard Russo s novels Empire Falls and Nobody s Fool examine the relationships between
individuals in a small town environment. In Empire Falls, Miles Roby and his family have
stayed in Empire Falls for much of their life with no foreseeable change in the future. In Nobody
s Fool, Donald Sully Sullivan has lived in North Bath, NY since he was a child and seems to have
deteriorated with the town. In both novels, the towns have declining economic prospects and the
residents have little engagement with happenings outside their towns. The landlocked geography

The Errors Of Second Language Learners
Many researchers in the field of error analysis have stressed the significance of errors of second
language learners. Corder (1967), for example, in his important article, notes that they are
significant in three different ways. First, to the teacher, in that they show how far towards the goal
the learner has progressed. Second, they provide to the researcher evidence of how a languageis
acquired, what strategies the learner is employing in his learningof a language. Thirdly, they are
indisputable to the learner himself because we can regard the making of errors as a device the
learner uses in order to learn (p. 161).One of the most difficult challenges handled by non native
speakers of English is understanding the system of English articles. This study aims at providing
a comprehensive account of the types of errors produced by Persian speaking learners of English
in their use of articles. Data were collected from 120 sentences produces by Persian speaking

The Seven Tips For Effective Business Writing
Coherence is one of the seven tips for effective business writing. It allows flow of thoughts to be
logical and easy to follow. Analyzing purpose, examining reader s need and outlining before writing
are some of the ways to make writing coherent. In addition to these, there are several other
techniques that can help to structure effective paragraphs and essays.
One way to write coherently is to write with unity. This can be achieved by establishing a main idea
and summarizing it into a single sentence called topic sentence. Any sentences or paragraphs that
are irrelevant to topic sentence should be omitted. This will make writing unified and coherent.
In addition, summary sentences can be used to make writing more coherent. Summary sentences
are usually present near the beginning of a document and they highlight the main ideas present in
the documents. In such documents, there is a separate, formal summary section emphasizing main
ideas that are relevant to readers. Each of these ideas is then placed in a separate paragraph and
each of these paragraphs begins with a topic sentence. Summary sentences are also placed in the
conclusion. However, it should act as a reminder and should not sound repetitive.
The principle discussed above is based on deductive structure where reader s need is placed first.
Readers are interested in recommendation and findings rather than the process. Hence, this
structure requires to put research findings first and then the process. However,

Essay Comparing The Bible And The Epic Of Gilgamesh
There are many various depictions of The Great Flood. The Aborigines have an account of the
Flood which includes a woman whose third son was killed and so she speared the eye of the sea.
The Mayan interpretation presents the theory that the Flood destroyed wooden people that were
created by the gods in an attempt to create human beings. Two very well known clarifications are
in The Bible and The Epic of Gilgamesh. Although they are about the tantamount occurrence, there
are many differences, including who told who to constitute the ark, what was on the ark, and how
elongated the flood persevered.
First, who told who about the Flood and to construct an ark is a very important topic. In The
Bible, God tells Noah that He is going to flood the earth for because of all the wickedness in men
s minds. He instructed Noah to build an ark that is four hundred fifty feet long, seventy five feet
wide, and fort five feet high. In The Epic of Gilgamesh, Ishtar was extremely enraged and she told
her father, Anu, to deliver a deluge. Ea came to Utnapishtim and told him that a downpour was
going to strike the earth and to construct a water tight vessel. As you can probably see, these are
two very different theories, but we know that The Bible is always accurate. ... Show more content

The War of the Worlds (1898), a science fiction novel by H. G. Wells, is the first person narrative
of an unnamed protagonist s (and his brother s) adventures in Surrey and London as Earth is
invaded by aliens. Written in 1895, it is one of the earliest stories that details a conflict between
mankind and an extraterrestrial race. Despite its age, this book is still a widely enjoyed classic,
and has inspired nearly 50 movies, 6 Broadway productions, and 2 musicals (one of which I

The Martians eventually depart, and the narrator is able to head toward Central London. He
once again encounters the artilleryman, who briefly persuades him to cooperate in a grandiose
plan to rebuild civilization underground. But after a few hours the narrator perceives the lunacy
of this plan and the overall laziness of his companion and abandons the artilleryman to his
delusions. Heading into a deserted London, he is at the point of despair and offers his life to the
aliens when he discovers that the invaders have died from microbial infections to which they had
no immunity, since there are no bacteria in Mars. The narrator realises with joy that the threat has
been vanquished. The narrator suffers a brief breakdown of which he remembers nothing, he is
nursed back to health by a kind family, and returns home to find his wife, whom he had given up
for dead. The last chapter, entitled Epilogue, reflects on the significance of the invasion and the
abiding sense of doubt and insecurity that it has left in the narrator s mind.

Pros And Cons Of Enlightenment In The French Revolution
The common understanding taught in American schools of the French Revolution is one of a
downtrodden peasant class being inspired by the Enlightenment philosophes to rise up and
overthrown the despotic monarch. This understanding correlates with American values of freedom,
anti tyranny, and success of the underdog. By constructing such a narrative, the French Revolutionis
given American values. However, as asserted by Darnton in the aforementioned quotation, the
French Revolution s spark did not begin with the teeming masses of neglected commoners. Instead,
Enlightenment thought permeated the upper echelons of society for two key reasons: cost and
literacy. Compilations of Enlightenment thoughts were distilled and included into the relatively...

The freeing of the peasants from the noble dominated social hierarchy did not include freeing
women from the entrenched patriarchy. Enlightenment thought seemingly included women under
the natural rights of man, but in reality, women were excluded and denied equality. Initially, women
were seen as equals among men, but their subservient role was reasserted and potential gains in
equality were lost. For example, American independence was popularized in order to mobilize the
entire society, yet only white male landowners were given the opportunity to participate in
government and allowed the right to vote. Not until the twentieth century did women achieve
universal suffrage. The century lapse in equality begs the question of whether more could have

Pros And Cons Of Nature Nurture
The nature nurture debate has been around for decades. It is one of the oldest and most popular
topics in the history of psychology asking what makes people who they become and how they
behave and develop the way they do. What makes the debate more interesting is that now scientists
are asking if personality traits and even sexual orientation can be determined by what is in already
there from conception. Bodies are built up of chromosomes which contain genetic information.
Many of these are inherited from parents and relatives. The nature side of the debate states the way
people are is predominantly from inherited geneticsand other biological factors not so much the
environmental factors. The genes humans have in their bodies play a huge role to many aspects
of who they are and who they become. For example, hair colour, eye colour and height are all
predetermined by genes. Unchangeable. This is natures way. The argument stands to decide
whether most attributes do stem from nature, genes, or if they can be affected by the environment
and the way people are nurtured as they have grown. The nurture side of the argument believes
although humans do have the genes and traits with which they are born, most personality traits
are being made up of environmental factors. For example, being loved and cared for as children,
if parents or carers were positive role models and if those people were taught in ways which
provided them with discipline and respect for others. Where nature

Def. Leppard should get this award because they have very good musical and are a pretty sweet
bad. The other reasons I think they should get this award is because they have a lot of
achievements. The first achievement that I liked was they were on the Bill Board 200 with their
song Hysteria , sold 10,000 in the first week of it being out, and also with the song Hysteria spent
six weeks at number one and 133 weeks on the Bill Board 200. (Caulfield 57) There next
achievement was that there was a big accident and there main drummer lost his arm. So he was

Pyromania after the car accident. (Tamenbaum 16). There next big achievement was that Phil Collen
and Vivian Campbell had there amazing guitar abilities over looked. (Hammond 16 20). The
next achievement I believe is very good because Def. Leppard and Kiss are paring up to go on tour

Essay on the Growth of Katherina in Taming of the Shrew
The Growth of Katherina in Taming of the Shrew
Although Katherina s final speech in The Taming of the Shrew may sound subservient on the
surface, it actually reflects her growth and development into a stronger and more complex character.
Without losing the forcefulness that she displayed earlier in the play, the delivery of her final
speech exhibits the cleverness and deceptiveness that she has learned from Petruchio throughout the
taming process.
At the beginning of the play, Katherina is seen as the forceful sister and Bianca as the clever one.
Katherina is described by Grumio as the fiend of hell (I.i.88) and by Tranio as curst and shrewd
(I.i.180). In contrast, Lucentio sees in Bianca s silence mild behavior and ... Show more content on

wagers a hundred crowns with Petruchio that Bianca will come when he sends for her. However,
the cleverness he used to win Bianca s love did not ensure her obedience as his wife and he loses
the wager.
Petruchio like Katherina is very strong and forceful. However, his forcefulness is viewed as a
positive masculine attribute, whereas Katherina s forcefulness is seen as a negative, shrewish
trait. But Petruchio is not only forceful; he like Bianca and Lucentio is also quite clever. He
seems to relish the challenge of taming Katherina, both for the sport of it as well as the monetary
rewards that she will bring to their marriage. In order to tame Katherina, Petruchio freely uses both
force and cleverness. At their first meeting, he cleverly sings her praises: Hearing thy mildness

Racial Profiling Is A Bad Idea
Gabbi Rodriguez
Barber
Expository Per; 6
12 December 2014
In a 2002 article, Angela A Davis argues how racial profiling is a bad idea because racial
profiling does more harm than good and people don t realize it. Statistics are very reliable such
as; The Department of Health and Human Services reports that 77% of monthly drug users are
white. We can t say that Caucasian people aren t ever racially profiled but you just don t see or
hear it often. This proves that Caucasians can do the same crimes as an African Americanor
Hispanic person can. Racial Profiling is when a police officer or people focus on a certain race or
look and they judge those people I think that racial profiling should be justified but only for
certain types of laws. It should be justified because it s a precaution and it helps to keep people
safe. But I also think that it shouldn t be justified because people never should be judged by their
looks, color of their skin, religion or personal beliefs because if the person is black or Arab
/Muslim, it shouldn t define who they are and it doesn t make them a bad person. A white man
can do the same exact crime as a Black, Hispanic, Muslim or an Asian man can. There s a story of
an African American actress named Daniele Watts, she got arrested for kissing her white boyfriend
in his car. The cops thought that she was a prostitute because she is black and they had to question

affected the social standings in the 1800 s. Industrialization changed the young nation s economy.
The industrialization that took place made efficient transportation essential to the U.S. It made
shipping cargo and sending people west easier, increasing the size of the US marketplace. Also,
Industrialization also surged the need for jobs. The U.S. needed laborers to do various new jobs,
such as work in factories or building living quarters, supplied by the Industrial Revoluiton. The new
jobs increased the wellbeing of the economy in every way. They made the cash flow spread to
everyone. Furthermore, the population in the U.S. escalated quickly because of Industrialization.

First, the treatment and standpoint of women in society were altered because of Industrialization.
Women took jobs in the new factories to help the family. They were no longer just housewives.
During this time the first wave of women s movements sparked. Women recognize their worth and
were willing to fight for their rights. Also, industrialization developed a new overall living
standard for people in the U.S. Because people held jobs, they received money. They now could
pay for better food, sustain a healthy life, and acquire an education. Lastly, The Industrial
Revolution attracted millions of European immigrants pursuing work and opportunities for a better
life. Along with the Industrial Revolution came millions of careers for anyone willing to fill them.

Exploring the Watches Worn by Famous Athletes
No matter what type of sports they play, athletes across the globe receive due recognition for
their prowess. Many athletes are introduced to their sport of choice at an early age, and they may
have been practicing for numerous years before they become well known to the public. Not
everyone achieves the level of success and worldwide adoration among fans that Beckham and
Woods and Federer, have, of course but countless individuals strive to reach such a degree of
fame. The advantages afforded the major players are significant, and that includes being paid far
more than those in a multitude of other professions will ever earn in a lifetime. While athletes are
paid well for their talents, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Roger Federer is yet another athlete to have linked his name to the Rolex brand. He has excelled
in a sport that is typically ruled by young athletes, and he has continued to rank highly for more
than 10 years. He has consistently garnered an impressive number of world records, so it s no
surprise that a luxury watch brand like Rolex would invite the celebrated tennis player to publicly
approve of their brand. His dedication to playing his sport in a classic style matches the image of
the classic watchmaker.
Plenty of other top competitors in tennis have lent their names and images to luxury watch
companies, as well. Novak Djokovic has represented Audemars Piguet watches for years. He was
elevated himself in the tennis world at a fast pace, and the watch company apparently recognized
that he would serve them well in their marketing efforts. Rafael Nadal has won multiple titles, so he
was an obvious choice for Richard Mille. The company collaborated to create a timepiece known
as the Tourbillon RM 027 Rafael Nadal, a watch specifically designed to be the kind of durable,
lightweight price that a top athlete would appreciate. The watch that Nadal proudly wore on the
court and that CNBC reporter Robert Frank predicted would sell out was certainly a

The Role Of Politics, Religion, And Violence In The...
The classical era was a point during which humanity took a great leap forward in terms of
understanding and documenting itself. One work of fiction, the Metamorphoses by Apuleius,
has given historians a look into life into the second century C.E. by telling stories that were
written in that time period. Works of fiction often provide metaphors and allegories greater
societal and ideological trends of the civilizations they occupy, and that is especially true of this
text. Apuleius uses the extraordinary anecdotes of one character s journey to illustrate the
complexities of life as he knows it. In doing so he provides a window into a world long passed
without even being aware of it. This paper aims to analyze the roles of politics,... Show more

The sheer volume of violence in the ancient world also tells the story of its inequality. If all was
equal in the ancient world, then it would not have been as violent as it was. A government that
takes care of the people it rules does not have to worry about them robbing and killing one
another, and yet it continued to happen over and over again. In a society built on dominance
and conquest, it is no wonder that slavery was a prevalent as it was. Though slaves were often
treated as human beings and, in some cases, could even hold public office, slaves could still be
subjected to abuse and unlivable conditions. Though slaves were often treated fairly and with
dignity, they were still under the direct control of people who could do virtually anything they
wanted to them. A servant could cheat on his wife and face a far more severe punishment than if
the same crime was committed by an aristocrat (161 162). The ancient world was made up of
winners and losers the winners were the conquerors and the losers were the conquered. It seems
as though slavery was unavoidable as it was the only real way to keep these two groups apart in
terms of social stature. Slavery also reflects the perceived dominance that a more powerful
civilization had over another. In civilizations so concerned with how powerful and dominant they
were, slavery almost had to be instituted in order for ancient civilizations to keep both their values
and empires intact. The only reason for some

Parker s Back And A Rose For Emily Analysis
Narrative Point of View in Parker s Back and A Rose For Emily An author s use of narrative point
of view has a significant impact on the presentation and interpretation of a text. The choice of a first
person narrative, for instance, will create a viewpoint that is substantially different in comparison to
a third person narrative. In Parker s Back, Flannery O Connor uses a third person limited point of
view. Faulkner s A Rose For Emily employs a first person point of view. In Parker s Back, the
third person limited narrative allows the author to take an objective, analytical view of Parker that
allows the reader to understand the protagonist s psychology; in A Rose For Emily, the reader s
knowledge of Miss Emily is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the same way that the eyes of the tattoo make Parker feel transparent, the third person limited
narration also makes Parker transparent to the reader by allowing the reader to access Parker s
thoughts and feelings. Parker likes to maintain control over what is seen and known about him;
this is clear in the fact that all of his previous tattoos have been on the front of his body: He had
no desire for one anywhere he could not readily see it himself (Kennedy and Gioia 430). On a
more abstract level, Parker keeps his real name a secret and goes only by his initials; his first
real act of intimacy with Sarah Ruth is to share his name: Obadiah Elihue. The third person
limited point of view, therefore, allows the reader to do what both the eyes of Christ in the
tattoo and Parker s wife do: to see Parker as he really is, not as he pretends to be. In contrast to the
third person limited point of view in Parker s Back, the point of view in A Rose For Emily is the
first person. The narrator s exact identity; the first line refers to our whole town, implying that s
/he is a towns person and neighbor. In fact, the narrator is never specified as one, single person;
the pronouns our and we seem to indicate that the narrator consists of several people, or even the
town as a collective whole. Rather than being told by a narrator who is outside of the story, and
therefore objective, the first person nature of this narrator

Potassium Dichromate increased at the sixth minute and retained its increase until the ninth minute
and then remained constant, while Methylene blue remained constant all throughout in the 30

Potassium Permanganate (KMno4), Potassium Dichromate (K2Cr2O7), and Methylene Blue, are
the pure substances that were used to prove the hypothesis because of their varieties in terms of
their color and molecular weight.
In a petri dish with agar gel with three wells, a drop of each of the prepared solutions of the pure
substances was simultaneously dropped in each of the wells, then the petri dish was immediately
covered to avoid external forces from affecting the diffusion. In a span of 30 minutes, the
diameters (mm) of the colored areas were measured at a regular interval of 3 minutes and were
recorded.
After getting all measurements, the partial rates of diffusion through the given formula and the
average rates of diffusion were calculated. Potassium Permanganate (KMno4), with a molecular
weight of 158 g/mole, having the least among the three resulted to 0.07 mm/min, Potassium
Permanganate (K2Cr2O7), with a molecular weight of 294 g/mole also resulted to 0.07 mm/min,
and Methylene Blue, with a molecular weight of 374 g/mole and the heaviest among the three
resulted to 0 mm/min or constant

All About Religion and Spirituality
Question 1 What is Religion?
Before deciding on the definition, I considered religion as being an organised system of beliefs,
ceremonies and rules to worship a god or a higher being . The only phrase that I agreed with was
the fact of religion being an organised system mainly because of the fact that there is a set way of
practising the religion by, for example, praying and attending mass. In contradiction, the rest of the
definition makes it seem as if religion is straight forward on a community basis, in contrast to a
personal one. Use of a god or a higher being contradicts the idea of polytheism, associated with
religions such as Buddhism and Hinduism (Theism.net, 2014).
As a result, I believe that the best definition of religion is a set of guidelines that defines who you
are, whether or not you worship a god or gods. Religion varies from person to person and is based
on personal faith and it is also greater than its followers and allows individuals to explore the true
meaning of life (Nguyen and Ibaviosa et al., 2014)
The reason I chose this definition is due to the fact that it is a collaborative definition that has been
compiled by utilising elements of other definitions about the word. This means that various
perspectives of the meaning of religion have been taken into consideration, which therefore means
that people are more likely to accept it. However, another reason that this definition stands out in
particular is the greater than its followers

The s Impact On Canadian Constructions Of Heritage And Islam
Spectacle and the Universal: ISIL s Impact on Canadian Constructions of Heritage and Islam
Context and Research Question: In August 2015, after capturing the ancient Roman site of
Palmyra, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) spectacularly exploded the remains of
the Temple of Bel and the Temple of Baalshamin. They immediately spread the images of their
destruction online by creating videos and news reports. ISIL s acts of destruction mark the
largest scale mass destruction of antiquities by one group since the Second World War (Kulish
and Myers 2016), and their videos are extremely effective in disseminating their spectacles
outside of the Middle East. Scholars in art history, archaeology, and law consider these acts the
destruction of cultural heritage (Harmanşah 2015; Bauer 2015; Brodie 2015; Drasewska
2015; He 2015; Kila 2015). In particular, ISIL s videos seek to defy Western European ideas about
cultural heritage which are often cast as universal (Meskell 2002, 568) and engage a worldwide
audience through carefully articulated performances. However, the many Canadian journalists
using digital media to protest the destruction and reassert their own humanitarian, cosmopolitan,
and civilized heritage values clearly mark the success of this strategy (Manley 2016). In fact, a
trend emerged where popular news stories claim that ISIL is destroying the heritage that belongs to
all of humanity (Harmanşah 2015, 173). Some scholars dispute the validity of this

the resources are well managed then it will work fine .It totally depends on the experience of IT
pro , if he has knowledge than , he will make better use of that resource .
Virtual Machines are slower than hardware
This myth is true , if your server is running at the 100% for CPU and memory then your added

  • 2. Devil Wears Prada Analysis The Devil Wears Prada The fashion centric, The Devil Wears Prada showcases a journalism major from Northwestern University enter an entire new world of clothes, make up, bags, shoes and accessories. My primary purpose of getting hitched to this film at the very beginning was its title. I guess it s prominent that the word fashion reaches a woman s ear faster than the speed of lightning striking the sky and Prada being the most popular brand drew me closer to it. The Devil Wears Prada was released in 2006 by Fox 2000 Pictures, directed by the talent house David Frankel(best known for the pilot episode of Entourage ) and based on its book adaption written by Lauren Weisberger (who is a former assistant of Vogueeditor in chief Anna ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The famous scene shot here was when Miranda doesn t want to let go of her job and refuses to let Nigel (Runway Magazine stylist) work with James Holt (rising fashion star) as a creative director and instead offers that post to someone else. This part of the movie took my breath away emotionally. I was as shaken as Andrea was in the film. One of the best elements of the film is its pack of wolves; that s the cast. Each character, whether playing a small or a big role comes off as relatable. For example, When Andrea loses herself and is absorbed in swirling costumes, her boyfriend Nate (Adrian Greiner) and her college friends come to her rescue. Nate explains to her how she has become one of the Runway girls she used to make fun of in the beginning. Too lost, she comes with a conclusion of taking a break from their relationship. Her friend Lily (Tracie Thoms) also refuses to support her and states her actions as demeaning. This dramatic point definitely is reality. We see these downfalls happen to us, friends and everyone we are close to. It connects with the audience easily. The Devil Wears Prada comes with an edging climax where Andrea has to choose whether she wants to remain this quintessential damsel or go back to who she really is. In the movie, we see Miranda tell ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Technology In Modern Society Did you know that the average person in this day and age spends nearly 3.9 years of their entire life using some sort of electronical device? In today s modernized society, we are greatly influenced by the uses of what technology has to offer. Not only does it play a key role in most of our lives, but it has revolutionized the way we actually live. Simply look around you and the chances are you will be faced with a wide array of different electronic technologies that have taken over the way we live. The use of modernized technologyis something rather new, but it is here to stay for years to come. This being said, in today s society, we are simply not mentally capable of understanding the true evils of what the use of technology has in storage for us. Technology has drastically changed throughout the years. From beginning with simple tools, to the current creation of mega powered modernized computers capable of endless possibilities and the list goes on. Whether or not one believes in all this technology is hard to say. But one thing is certain, technology has and will continue to control our lives for hundreds upon hundreds of years to come unless we can make a change. But the odds are,we will never change. The problem with technology is that it makes life so much easier. From contacting someone across the world in a matter of minutes with a couple clicks to controlling the minds and privileges of nearly half of the world s population by simply making it rather easy to ... While doing research on myths, I came across The Myth of Sisyphus and immediately made many connections between the two subjects. Both of these topics have a lot to do with manipulation and deception. With politics especially, people today have a lot of opinions on the dynamics of that community. They both deal with continuous repetition and constantly giving your all to make accomplish a task. What is interesting though is exactly to what extent can The Myth of Sisyphus be related to our modern day political community? It gave her the desire to have something or want something that is wrong and that wrong is evil. If her home is her harbor where she remains safe she should not experience these feelings. She felt very warm and often stopped to mop her face on which the perspiration gathered in beads. She unfastened her white sacque at the throat. • 6. Energy Producing Hot Water For Cogeneration The proposed project focuses on developing an electrical generation thermal system which generates 5KW power producing hot water for cogeneration. The Rankine cycle is used as the base system for the design. The solar energy is utilized in the project as a thermal source of heat to the system. The obtained heat energy is used to heat the system with overall system efficiency to be 60.4% and generate power of 5KW to be used for cogeneration and the waste heat recovered is stored in a battery which is utilized to produce hot water even in the absence of sunlight. The thermodynamic properties of the system were analyzed and calculated. The second law efficiency, irreversibility of the system components, maximum system efficiency and the net work done by the components of the system were majorly focused and calculated. The economic analysis of the system were performed by taking into account all the system components and found the system design to be more economical for small scale applications. Introduction: In today s world fossil fuels and other non renewable resources are on the verge of depletion. Research is going on in implementing natural resources as thermal source of heat to power any thermodynamic cycle. Natural sources are now being employed to decrease the rising costs of alternative fuels such as fossil fuels, coal etc. Solar thermal energy is one such energy resource that is being widely used. • 8. A Report On Auto Maintenance When it comes to auto maintenance, your tyres are one of, if not the most, vital components of your vehicle. You might be thinking, Harjeev, everyone knows this already , and you re not wrong. Yet, despite this being largely common knowledge amongst drivers, a majority of auto owners across the world tend to delay or neglect their maintenance altogether. According to TyreSafe s 2015 Tyre Safety Month study 65% of UK drivers (out of 102,000 tyres they surveyed) needed to check their treads more often. Not only does regular service and maintenance reduce your service costs, as scheduled maintenance outweighs large repairs, it impacts your safety. TyreSafe s study painted a potentially frightening image of UK roads with over a quarter of tyres (27.3%) having an illegal tread depth of 1.6mm or less. That s 10 million tyres in 2015 alone that were potentially illegal! If that didn t catch your attention, maybe the penalty will. In the UK, you could face a ВЈ2500 fine and three penalty points per illegal tyre on your vehicle! Imagine how much you could have saved when comparing the price of new tyres against potentially ВЈ10000 in fines. Let s delve into why you cannot put off your tyre care. If you aren t maintaining your tyres, expect to see a decline in your vehicle s braking, cornering and gas mileage while your CO2 emissions go up. Just think, neglecting your tyres affects everyone s safety, your wallet and the environment in one fell swoop! Let s pretend that wasn t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Unequal Pay Among Women In the status quo, it is estimated that eighteen million women are left to live in poverty. (NWLC, 2014). This leads to women struggling to make ends meet. It s important to raise awareness for those whose voices have been silenced due to their lower status in society as they cannot be heard on their own. Many people tend to believe that both genders are equally exposed at the risk of poverty. However, it is statistically proven that women have higher poverty rates due to unequal pay rates, low paying occupations, a rise in divorcerates, and a growing number of single mothers from unplanned pregnancies. Worldwide, women are likely to have unjust pay rates which is a significant reason for poverty among women. According to the Institute for Women s Policy Research, women receive 80 cents for every dollar a man receives. (IWPR, 2015). Not only does the difference in pay rates result in women receiving lower salaries than men, but it results in women having to rationalize the low amount of money that they do receive. It is difficult to live in a world where resources are costly with a low salary. According to the United Nations Statistics Division, ...consistent with other studies, men s average salary was higher than women s average salary. (Barry A. Gerhart, 2015). This informs us of one of the reasons as to why women have a higher poverty rate. The unequal pay has been a strong issue debated in current society by many people. Lamb To The Slaughter Essay Lamb to the slaughter is generally used to describe a situation at which a person blindly enters without any knowledge of the danger, the same can be said for the characters in this short story. The story s title also works as a dark double entendre, which is a word or phrase used in a way which conveys two meanings of the ultimate outcomes. Dahl s audience for his book would be a slightly older generation, maybe for people who have had trouble in past relationships, furthermore people who were cheated on and anyone who is interested in ironic humor could be a target audience for this story. Through this report, This report will examine what benefits and disadvantages did urbanization process bring to China and How is the future of it. After Chinese economic reform, those first 14 opening harbour cities and 4 special economic zones set great examples for other cities. While there are some that deal with that subject to either a more or lesser extent, the interest of the audience ultimately depends on what events the story line includes and how interesting did they make that specific event. I have decided to deal with 1818, award winning Frankenstein by Mary Shelly. • 31. The Seven Tips For Effective Business Writing Coherence is one of the seven tips for effective business writing. It allows flow of thoughts to be logical and easy to follow. Analyzing purpose, examining reader s need and outlining before writing are some of the ways to make writing coherent. In addition to these, there are several other techniques that can help to structure effective paragraphs and essays. One way to write coherently is to write with unity. This can be achieved by establishing a main idea and summarizing it into a single sentence called topic sentence. Any sentences or paragraphs that are irrelevant to topic sentence should be omitted. This will make writing unified and coherent. In addition, summary sentences can be used to make writing more coherent. Summary sentences are usually present near the beginning of a document and they highlight the main ideas present in the documents. In such documents, there is a separate, formal summary section emphasizing main ideas that are relevant to readers. Each of these ideas is then placed in a separate paragraph and each of these paragraphs begins with a topic sentence. Summary sentences are also placed in the conclusion. However, it should act as a reminder and should not sound repetitive. The principle discussed above is based on deductive structure where reader s need is placed first. Readers are interested in recommendation and findings rather than the process. Hence, this structure requires to put research findings first and then the process. However, ... The Aborigines have an account of the Flood which includes a woman whose third son was killed and so she speared the eye of the sea. The Mayan interpretation presents the theory that the Flood destroyed wooden people that were created by the gods in an attempt to create human beings. Two very well known clarifications are in The Bible and The Epic of Gilgamesh. Although they are about the tantamount occurrence, there are many differences, including who told who to constitute the ark, what was on the ark, and how elongated the flood persevered. First, who told who about the Flood and to construct an ark is a very important topic. In The Bible, God tells Noah that He is going to flood the earth for because of all the wickedness in men s minds. He instructed Noah to build an ark that is four hundred fifty feet long, seventy five feet wide, and fort five feet high. In The Epic of Gilgamesh, Ishtar was extremely enraged and she told her father, Anu, to deliver a deluge. It is one of the oldest and most popular topics in the history of psychology asking what makes people who they become and how they behave and develop the way they do. What makes the debate more interesting is that now scientists are asking if personality traits and even sexual orientation can be determined by what is in already there from conception. Bodies are built up of chromosomes which contain genetic information. Many of these are inherited from parents and relatives. The nature side of the debate states the way people are is predominantly from inherited geneticsand other biological factors not so much the environmental factors. The genes humans have in their bodies play a huge role to many aspects of who they are and who they become. For example, hair colour, eye colour and height are all predetermined by genes. Unchangeable. This is natures way. The argument stands to decide whether most attributes do stem from nature, genes, or if they can be affected by the environment and the way people are nurtured as they have grown. The nurture side of the argument believes although humans do have the genes and traits with which they are born, most personality traits are being made up of environmental factors. For example, being loved and cared for as children, if parents or carers were positive role models and if those people were taught in ways which provided them with discipline and respect for others. • 39. Essay on the Growth of Katherina in Taming of the Shrew The Growth of Katherina in Taming of the Shrew Although Katherina s final speech in The Taming of the Shrew may sound subservient on the surface, it actually reflects her growth and development into a stronger and more complex character. Without losing the forcefulness that she displayed earlier in the play, the delivery of her final speech exhibits the cleverness and deceptiveness that she has learned from Petruchio throughout the taming process. At the beginning of the play, Katherina is seen as the forceful sister and Bianca as the clever one. Katherina is described by Grumio as the fiend of hell (I.i.88) and by Tranio as curst and shrewd (I.i.180). In contrast, Lucentio sees in Bianca s silence mild behavior and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After he wins Bianca s love with his cleverness, he assumes that she will remain silent and obedient when she becomes his wife. He doesn t realize that Bianca is also very clever and that her earlier mild behavior has been a pose. Lucentio is so sure of Bianca s subservience that he wagers a hundred crowns with Petruchio that Bianca will come when he sends for her. However, the cleverness he used to win Bianca s love did not ensure her obedience as his wife and he loses the wager. Petruchio like Katherina is very strong and forceful. However, his forcefulness is viewed as a positive masculine attribute, whereas Katherina s forcefulness is seen as a negative, shrewish trait. But Petruchio is not only forceful; he like Bianca and Lucentio is also quite clever. He seems to relish the challenge of taming Katherina, both for the sport of it as well as the monetary rewards that she will bring to their marriage. In order to tame Katherina, Petruchio freely uses both force and cleverness. At their first meeting, he cleverly sings her praises: Hearing thy mildness prais d in every town,/Thy virtues spoke of, and thy beauty sounded,/Yet not so deeply as to thee belongs (II.i.191 93). While he proceeds with witty praise, Katherina responds with insults and at one point strikes Petruchio (II.i.219). Petruchio is unfazed and warns Katherina that he will ... • 41. Racial Profiling Is A Bad Idea Gabbi Rodriguez Barber Expository Per; 6 12 December 2014 In a 2002 article, Angela A Davis argues how racial profiling is a bad idea because racial profiling does more harm than good and people don t realize it. Statistics are very reliable such as; The Department of Health and Human Services reports that 77% of monthly drug users are white. We can t say that Caucasian people aren t ever racially profiled but you just don t see or hear it often. This proves that Caucasians can do the same crimes as an African Americanor Hispanic person can. Racial Profiling is when a police officer or people focus on a certain race or look and they judge those people I think that racial profiling should be justified but only for certain types of laws. It should be justified because it s a precaution and it helps to keep people safe. But I also think that it shouldn t be justified because people never should be judged by their looks, color of their skin, religion or personal beliefs because if the person is black or Arab /Muslim, it shouldn t define who they are and it doesn t make them a bad person. A white man can do the same exact crime as a Black, Hispanic, Muslim or an Asian man can. There s a story of an African American actress named Daniele Watts, she got arrested for kissing her white boyfriend in his car. The cops thought that she was a prostitute because she is black and they had to question her boyfriend, Brian Lucas, if Daniele was actually his girlfriend. In an interview ... One work of fiction, the Metamorphoses by Apuleius, has given historians a look into life into the second century C.E. by telling stories that were written in that time period. Works of fiction often provide metaphors and allegories greater societal and ideological trends of the civilizations they occupy, and that is especially true of this text. Apuleius uses the extraordinary anecdotes of one character s journey to illustrate the complexities of life as he knows it. In doing so he provides a window into a world long passed without even being aware of it. This paper aims to analyze the roles of politics,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sheer volume of violence in the ancient world also tells the story of its inequality. If all was equal in the ancient world, then it would not have been as violent as it was. A government that takes care of the people it rules does not have to worry about them robbing and killing one another, and yet it continued to happen over and over again. In a society built on dominance and conquest, it is no wonder that slavery was a prevalent as it was. Though slaves were often treated as human beings and, in some cases, could even hold public office, slaves could still be subjected to abuse and unlivable conditions. Though slaves were often treated fairly and with dignity, they were still under the direct control of people who could do virtually anything they wanted to them. A servant could cheat on his wife and face a far more severe punishment than if the same crime was committed by an aristocrat (161 162). The ancient world was made up of winners and losers the winners were the conquerors and the losers were the conquered. It seems as though slavery was unavoidable as it was the only real way to keep these two groups apart in terms of social stature. Slavery also reflects the perceived dominance that a more powerful civilization had over another. In civilizations so concerned with how powerful and dominant they were, slavery almost had to be instituted in order for ancient civilizations to keep both their values and empires intact. Parker s Back And A Rose For Emily Analysis Narrative Point of View in Parker s Back and A Rose For Emily An author s use of narrative point of view has a significant impact on the presentation and interpretation of a text. The choice of a first person narrative, for instance, will create a viewpoint that is substantially different in comparison to a third person narrative. In Parker s Back, Flannery O Connor uses a third person limited point of view. Faulkner s A Rose For Emily employs a first person point of view. In the same way that the eyes of the tattoo make Parker feel transparent, the third person limited narration also makes Parker transparent to the reader by allowing the reader to access Parker s thoughts and feelings. Parker likes to maintain control over what is seen and known about him; this is clear in the fact that all of his previous tattoos have been on the front of his body: He had no desire for one anywhere he could not readily see it himself (Kennedy and Gioia 430). On a more abstract level, Parker keeps his real name a secret and goes only by his initials; his first real act of intimacy with Sarah Ruth is to share his name: Obadiah Elihue. The third person limited point of view, therefore, allows the reader to do what both the eyes of Christ in the tattoo and Parker s wife do: to see Parker as he really is, not as he pretends to be. In contrast to the third person limited point of view in Parker s Back, the point of view in A Rose For Emily is the first person. The narrator s exact identity; the first line refers to our whole town, implying that s /he is a towns person and neighbor. • 47. All About Religion and Spirituality Question 1 What is Religion? Before deciding on the definition, I considered religion as being an organised system of beliefs, ceremonies and rules to worship a god or a higher being . The only phrase that I agreed with was the fact of religion being an organised system mainly because of the fact that there is a set way of practising the religion by, for example, praying and attending mass. In contradiction, the rest of the definition makes it seem as if religion is straight forward on a community basis, in contrast to a personal one. Use of a god or a higher being contradicts the idea of polytheism, associated with religions such as Buddhism and Hinduism (Theism.net, 2014). As a result, I believe that the best definition of religion is a set of guidelines that defines who you are, whether or not you worship a god or gods. Religion varies from person to person and is based on personal faith and it is also greater than its followers and allows individuals to explore the true meaning of life (Nguyen and Ibaviosa et al., 2014) The reason I chose this definition is due to the fact that it is a collaborative definition that has been compiled by utilising elements of other definitions about the word. This means that various perspectives of the meaning of religion have been taken into consideration, which therefore means that people are more likely to accept it. However, another reason that this definition stands out in particular is the greater than its followers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The s Impact On Canadian Constructions Of Heritage And Islam Spectacle and the Universal: ISIL s Impact on Canadian Constructions of Heritage and Islam Context and Research Question: In August 2015, after capturing the ancient Roman site of Palmyra, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) spectacularly exploded the remains of the Temple of Bel and the Temple of Baalshamin. They immediately spread the images of their destruction online by creating videos and news reports. ISIL s acts of destruction mark the largest scale mass destruction of antiquities by one group since the Second World War (Kulish and Myers 2016), and their videos are extremely effective in disseminating their spectacles outside of the Middle East. Scholars in art history, archaeology, and law consider these acts the destruction of cultural heritage (HarmansМ§ah 2015; Bauer 2015; Brodie 2015; Drasewska 2015; He 2015; Kila 2015). In particular, ISIL s videos seek to defy Western European ideas about cultural heritage which are often cast as universal (Meskell 2002, 568) and engage a worldwide audience through carefully articulated performances. However, the many Canadian journalists using digital media to protest the destruction and reassert their own humanitarian, cosmopolitan, and civilized heritage values clearly mark the success of this strategy (Manley 2016). In fact, a trend emerged where popular news stories claim that ISIL is destroying the heritage that belongs to all of humanity (HarmansМ§ah 2015, 173). Some scholars dispute the validity of this ...
